Madeleine McCann suspect on trial in Germany on unrelated rape charges

Christian Bruckner, the main suspect in the disappearance of the UK toddler Madeleine McCann, has appeared in court in Germany over sexual assault and rape charges in separate cases.

The 47-year-old appeared in court in Braunschweig, northern Germany, amid a flurry of media and public interest. The opening of the trial, where tight security was in place, was delayed by the sheer number of people trying to gain access to the courtroom.
