Metro and ST Restructure for Lynnwood Link
Metro and Sound Transit will restructure bus routes in the north end on September 14, 2024 (two weeks after the opening of Lynnwood Link). The changes will occur at the same time as the changes surrounding RapidRide G which is why Metro is listing them on the same service change page. Here is a list of some of the main changes:
New Routes:
- 61: Lake City to Greenwood via Northgate)
- 333: Mountlake Terrace to Shoreline South Station via Shoreline Community College
- 365: Shoreline North Station to Northgate via Meridian Avenue and Haller Lake
Modified Routes:
- 28, 65, 303, 322, 331, 345, 346, and RapidRide E
- Sound Transit 510, 512, 513, and 515
- Sounder North
Deleted Routes:
- 16, 20, 47, 64, 73, 301, 302, 304, 320, 330, and 347
Details after the break.
New Routes Route 61 MapRoute 61 - This will be a new east-west 15-minute frequency bus connecting Greenwood with Lake City. The bus will cross several major north-south transit corridors (including Link) dramatically improving two-seat rides in the north end. It will be the fastest way to get to Link from Greenwood (or other parts of the 85th corridor).
Route 333 MapRoute 333 - This 15-minute frequency bus will run from Mountlake Terrace in the north to 148th Station in the south while crossing I-5 twice. From Mountlake Terrace it will run down 15th to North City, replacing the less frequent 347. It will then go west on 175th to Shoreline Community College (SCC) traveling under Link but not connecting to it. It will then reverse direction at SCC and head east to provide the key connection between Link and the college.
Note: The route will operate on a temporary reroute when it opens due to construction on NE 145th St, this is expected to last until the end of October 2024.
Route 365 MapRoute 365 - This is a new half-hourly frequency coverage route serving 5th Ave NE in Shoreline and Meridian Ave N in Seattle. It serves three Link stations: Shoreline North, Shoreline South, and Northgate. The 5th Ave NE portion replaces the 347. The Meridian portion is served by the 345 and 365, which replaces previous 345 and 346 service.
Note: Route 365 will be on a temporary reroute when it starts due to construction on NE 145th St expected to last until the end of October 2024. During that time, Route 365 will not serve stops on NE 145th St between Shoreline South 148th Station and Meridian Ave N, it will operate on NE 155th St between 5th Ave NE and Meridian Ave N.
Adjusted RoutesThere are 21 Metro routes that will be altered. The following are north of the ship canal:
Route 28 - Will no longer serve Broadview.
Route 65 - Extended a few blocks to serve the Shoreline South/ 148th Station.
Route 303 and 322 - Both of these will now serve South Lake Union as well as First Hill. The 322 will no longer go down Lake City Way to serve Roosevelt Station but will instead serve Northgate Transit Center. The two buses will run peak-only, combining for better frequency (roughly 15-minutes) from Northgate to South Lake Union or First Hill.
Route 331 - The 20 minute frequency route from Kenmore to Shoreline Community college will now connect to Mountlake Terrace Station in the middle of the route.
Route 345 - Will no longer connect to Shoreline Community College, but will instead travel across I-5 via 155th to terminate at the Shoreline South / 148th Station.
Route 346 MapRoute 346 - A much shorter version of the existing route. It will now go from Aurora Village to Shoreline South / 148th Station mostly on Meridian Ave N. It is worth noting that this was not part of the original Phase 3 service plan.
Route 348 MapRoute 348 - Slightly different service in North City (will stay on 15th until 180th instead of 175th). On weekdays, frequency will double between 185th Station and Northgate as it replaces the 347. Half the buses will go to Richmond Beach, and the other half make a little loop in Richmond Highlands. On weekends all of the buses go to Richmond Beach but service (on the entire route) drops to only once every half hour. This is a degradation in Seattle as the 347/348 currently combine for service every fifteen minutes on weekends.
RapidRide E - Additional trips are added, restoring service to March 2022 levels.
Deleted RoutesThe following routes will be deleted: 16, 20, 47, 64, 73, 301, 302, 304, 320, 330, 347. Some of these are effectively just changing names (e. g. the 47 is now just the 3). Others are simply gone (e. g. the 73).
Sound Transit ChangesThe following are changes in the ST Express service for the north end:
Route 510 - Schedule change to better align with Sounder North.
Route 512 - Will end at Lynnwood Station (instead of continuing to Northgate).
Route 513 - Will end at Lynnwood Station (instead of continuing to Northgate). The bus is currently scheduled to only run peak-direction despite serving Boeing. It is possible this will change as the following route becomes unnecessary:
Route 515 - Will run from Lynnwood Transit Center to Downtown Seattle, stopping at Mountlake Terrace Freeway Station along the way. The bus is designed to deal with crowding on Link, so it will likely be suspended as soon as crowding is no longer an issue.
North SounderStarting on Monday the 16th the Sounder North Line (Everett/Mukilteo/Edmonds/Seattle) will run four times a day each way (instead of twice).
