Grade School’s Gifted Program Admits Kids Who Can Emotionally Handle Time Away From iPad

NASHUA, NH-Providing enrichment activities for students with abilities that set them apart from their peers, the gifted program at Middlebrook Elementary only admits kids who can emotionally handle time away from their iPads, school officials confirmed Tuesday. Our gifted and talented program is an elite option that is definitely not for everyone," said principal Terri Van Euler, adding that the highly rigorous" academic environment was best for middle schoolers with the attention skills needed to make it through long stretches without watching videos or playing online games. Students who excel in this program will be expected to spend time reading or doing math problems without looking at a tablet screen for 30 or sometimes 40 minutes at a time. These are skills that even adults may struggle with, but this is the kind of sacrifice and concentration that we expect from those enrolled." Van Euler added that teachers had ensured their gifted Middlebrook kids would remain happy and well socialized by giving them free access to theirphones and Apple watches at all times.
