Sonos nails the fundamentals with its latest soundbar. But it'll cost you. It's been almost two years since I reviewed the Sonos Beam, a soundbar from a company that represented just as much about the company's future as it did about its then-present.The speaker maker had been trying to balance the needs of its existing user base, which valued the connected nature of its speaker ecosystem, with a growing number of cost-conscious consumers who just wanted a decent soundbar to connect to the living room TV that was taking on more importance. Plus, it wanted to work with the quickly-proliferating smart assistant audience, many of whom were choosing Sonos products like the Sonos One because it was the best-sounding Alexa speaker you could buy for $200.The Beam, with its $399 starting price, low-profile form factor, beamforming speakers, and support for HDMI's ARC standard, tried to be all things to most people, and it succeeded wildly. When I sent my review unit back, I survived les...

Not all great headphones have to be super expensive, and not all cheap headphones have to be bad. Sometimes you have to find the middle ground. The Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 are a perfect example of this with superb sound quality, long battery life, and are super comfortable to use for long periods.Best Overall: Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2The Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 are by far the best value when it comes to headphones in this price range. When Naughty Dog said this game would be divisive, it wasn't kidding. There's a lot to unpack.Should The Last of Us be a standalone game? That's a question countless fans have asked since its release in 2013. When you have an ending so perfect, it's hard to go back for fear that a continuation will ruin it. Does an ambiguous ending even need answers? When players have their own theories, not everyone will be satisfied. The Last of Us Part II, by its mere existence, was going to be divisive. After spending over 22 hours with it, I can say that divisive doesn't even begin to describe it.Truthfully I'm still trying to process everything that I experienced. It's been difficult to compose my thoughts surrounding the game, but I hope I do it justice. It's something that I'll think about for a long time, and my opinion of it honestly may change. Naughty Dog doesn't shy away from uncomfortable topics, and certain scenes can get heavy. If you're looking for a beautifully crafted post-ap...

Do you really want to tell Popeye's Chicken where you live, where you work, and when you watch a baseball game?I write a lot of words about location tracking and how it fits into our lives. Sometimes it can be a useful tool, but most of my words are about how bad it is and why tools that try to manage it are so important. Most times, someone asks me why it matters if an app knows where they are when they are using it.I get it. For a lot of us, it's nice that we can see what's on clearance at Target if we have the app installed and then use it to find the closest location. Or Dick's Sporting Goods, or PetSmart or whatever store. It also can be nice for an app like Strava to map your rides or for Google Maps to show you where you have been. But like most things, if you give an inch, the app takes a mile. Location tracking can be a good feature, but most of the time it's not.Consider this article from the Financial Post. It's about the ways an app — in this case, the Tim Ho...

This Premier League lunchtime kick-off at Vicarage Road sees Watford boss Nigel Pearson face the club he once managed. The match sees both teams with plenty to play for at opposite ends of the table - Watford are in danger of the drop zone and remain above the relegation zone on account of goal difference, while Leicester are in third and have a Champions League spot very much within their grasp.Having looked near hopeless prior to his appointment, Pearson's arrival in December has given Watford hope of survival, signing off before the break with a massive home win over Champions-elect Liverpool.Leicester meanwhile have had a season to remember so far under Brendan Rodgers, and barring a catastrophe should finish third. That said, with a bad run of just two wins from their last eight in the league before the lockdown break, they'll be looking to get back on track here.Read on for full details on how to get a live stream of Watford vs Leicester no matter where you are in the w...

Sega has been bringing its classic titles to Android. These are the best released so far.Sega deserves a lot of praise for Sega Forever, the campaign that delivered classic Sega titles to the Google Play Store. All the games are free to play with ads, meaning you'll have to contend with pop-up ads between levels and whenever you save. If you love a game and want an ad-free gaming experience, you can unlock the premium version for $2.The touchscreen emulation for controls is pretty decent, but Sega has also added controller support for most of the titles, so if you have a Bluetooth controller for Android, you're good to go.Though there are more than 20 games in the growing collection of Sega Forever-branded titles, these are the best of the bunch. Best answer: No. Sony's PlayStation 4 does not provide support for standard USB webcams. Unfortunately for Sony, the EyeToy and upgraded PlayStation Eye were far from that must-have. Over the years I've used Android phones from just about every company that makes them, and it's pretty obvious that I'm a big fan of Google's operating system. That's not always been easy. We all have an old phone we still love (for me it's the Nexus One) but you probably don't really want to use it again because of how bad Android was way back then. Let's see if your favorite apps work with the Pixel 4.The Pixel 4 is an important phone for the Android landscape. The 90Hz display, dual rear cameras, and wireless charging are all perfectly cool, but the thing that really makes it stand out is Google's all-new face unlock system. We've seen other Android phones offer face unlock in the past, but the Pixel 4 is the first one that's secure enough to be useful beyond the lock screen — meaning you can use face unlock on the Pixel 4 to authorize purchases and log in to apps — such as mobile banking apps and password managers. If you pick up your Pixel 4 and realize that face unlock doesn't work with your favorite apps, however, you're not doing anything wrong. Developers need to support Google's BiometricPrompt API in order for it to work, and as of right now, these are all of the apps that currently support it.Apps that currently work with the Pixel 4's face unlock1PasswordAlly MobileAmerican ExpressBank of AmericaBarc...

Chatting with the AC forums.Earlier this week, Google began rolling out a small update to the Android 11 Beta — version 1.5. The update was released without any fanfare, and rightfully so. It essentially exists just to fix a few bugs, such as allowing Google Pay to now work.As unexciting as that may be, it's still great to see Google rolling out a patch like this so soon. Some of our AC forum members have been talking about the update, and it looks like a lot of them have already gotten it. eric002 06-18-2020 12:01 PM “ Other than Google play working supposedly, not much else is new. These true wireless earbuds are still fantastic, and made even better with a bug-fixing update.Despite coming out several months after their original announcement in 2019, the new Google Pixel Buds didn't have a smooth launch — but that's par for the course for Google hardware it seems. Connection problems and quality control issues cast a bit of a shadow over to the Pixel Buds, which had heightened expectations to begin with given the Google name and a $180 price tag.But now, with a couple months of use and a fresh update to fix issues, it's time for another review of these true wireless earbuds I loved so much back in April. At a glanceGoogle Pixel Buds Bottom line: There's no shortage of true wireless earbud options, but the Pixel Buds are among the best. Smartphone camera sensors have gotten pretty huge in the last year. The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a massive 1/1.33-inch sensor in its main camera, along with a 1/2-inch telephoto sensor. The Huawei P40 Pro Plus that Alex just reviewed has an even larger main sensor is at 1/1.28 inches. Before we get too lost in the numbers, let's talk about what all of that actually means. Larger camera sensors aid in all sorts of aspects of photography, from depth of field to low light performance. This is the main reason why dedicated cameras are able to take such great photos in various conditions, while smartphones have a particularly hard time when shooting in low light. Smartphones work round their tiny camera sensors with clever image processing software.Of course, smartphone manufacturers have found plenty of ways around the limitations of these tiny sensors. Google truly blew me away when it first demoed the Night Sight capabilities of the Pixel 3 a few years back, which uses a combinatio...
