The Toronto Maple Leafs placed backup goaltender Michael Hutchinson on waivers, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.Hutchinson authored a 4.44 goals-against average and .879 save percentage in six games this year. He was acquired from the Florida Panthers last season in exchange for a fifth-round pick.Kasimir Kaskisuo appears to be the logical candidate to be called up as Frederik Andersen's backup. The 6-foot-3 Finn is off to a red-hot start with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, beginning his season 6-1-1 and posting a 2.13 goals-against average and .928 save percentage. If called up, the 26-year-old could make his NHL debut Saturday on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins, given head coach Mike Babcock's tendency to start his backup netminder in the second game of back-to-backs.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Edmonton Oilers property Jesse Puljujarvi doesn't intend on making a return to the NHL this season."The 100% focus is on playing in Oulu until the end of the season and being able to play a great season there," Puljujarvi told Finnish news outlet Ilta-Sanomat, as translated by TSN's Frank Seravalli. The former fourth overall pick signed a one-year contract with Karpat of Liiga in August. In order to make a return to the NHL for the 2019-20 campaign, he'd need to sign a deal by Dec. 1.Puljujarvi's agent stated in June that his client would play in Europe if he's not traded from the Oilers. The Carolina Hurricanes reportedly showed interest in acquiring the 21-year-old winger, but nothing has come to fruition.Puljujarvi is still a restricted free agent in the NHL. He's had a productive year overseas, tallying 11 goals and nine assists in 18 games so far. However, in part due to numerous injuries and demotions to the AHL, Puljujarvi collected just 37 points in 139 games with Edmonton.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is expected to be out of the lineup with an ankle injury for at least four weeks, at which point he'll be reassessed by the club's medical staff, the team announced Sunday.Marner underwent an MRI on Sunday after suffering the injury in Saturday night's loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. The 22-year-old struggled to the bench in the second period after getting tangled up with Flyers winger Carsen Twarynski during a faceoff. Marner later took a power-play shift before heading to the dressing room. He came back to test his ankle during a TV timeout but returned to the room.He was ruled out for the remainder of the game and sat out Sunday's contest against the Chicago Blackhawks. Marner led Toronto with 14 assists entering Sunday's game, and his 18 points in as many contests ranked second on the team behind Auston Matthews.Marner signed a six-year, $65.35-million contract with the Maple Leafs in September after racking up a career-best 26 goals and 94 points across 82 games in 2018-19.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jim Montgomery made it clear he's not happy with the performance of his best players so far this season."Very disappointed," the Dallas Stars head coach told reporters when asked about the scoring of his top players following an overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. When asked if he is seeing signs of progress, Montgomery replied, "No, are you?"Tyler Seguin has collected only three goals and 11 points in 2019-20, while Jamie Benn has managed just one goal and six points. Alexander Radulov has netted five goals to go along with five assists, and marquee free-agent signing Joe Pavelski has recorded just three goals and eight points. All four forwards have suited up for all 18 games.Montgomery singled out Seguin and Benn when asked how important it is for his top players to step up amid injuries to star defenseman John Klingberg and forward Roope Hintz, who leads the club with nine goals this season."It's really important," the bench boss said. "You need your No. 1 center and need your No. 1 left winger to step up and do more."Montgomery explained that the team has tried to reduce its top players' ice time and conduct 1-on-1 video sessions, but he added that the onus is on them to turn things around."They've got to decide that they want to be a difference maker," the head coach said. "I mean, look who scored for the Jets."Patrik Laine opened the scoring for Winnipeg on Sunday and Mark Scheifele potted the overtime winner."We got really good, big goals by (Mattias) Janmark and (Radek) Faksa, and that's our third and fourth line," Montgomery said. The Stars fell to 8-8-2 with Sunday's loss. Dallas ranks third-last in the NHL with 2.39 goals per game.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour knows his club needs to dig deep after dropping its fourth straight game in regulation Saturday against the Ottawa Senators."It’s a soul search time for our group," Brind'Amour said following the 4-1 loss, according to FOX Sports Carolinas. "We’re better than what we’re showing right now, for sure, but tonight was not acceptable."The Hurricanes allowed three first-period goals, including a Senators-record two tallies in four seconds, and they never recovered."To come out and play like that at the start is very disturbing," Brind'Amour said. "So, you know, that's what you get in this league if you're not ready to play ... we just weren't focused on what we had to do."The Hurricanes have been outscored 17-7 during their slide despite outshooting opponents in each of the four losses. Brind'Amour recognizes that the team hasn't gotten the results it's deserved and stressed the importance of staying focused through the tough stretch."We lost a couple games that we actually could have won, and we were playing pretty well. This is the one egg that we threw in all year, but when you're in a situation where you're losing games, you can't afford that."After winning five straight to begin the season, Carolina has posted a 4-6-1 record and sits fifth in the Metropolitan Division.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. He then emerged during a TV timeout to test out his skating ability but returned to the room and was declared out for the game.Marner entered Saturday's action ranked second on the team with 18 points in 17 games this season. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman remains resistant to the idea of allowing the league's players to participate in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing."I don't want to sound like a broken record on the subject, but I think going to the Olympics is a challenge for us," Bettman said during a press conference Friday at the Global Games in Sweden, according to Sportsnet's Emily Sadler. The league announced in April 2017 that its players wouldn't participate in the 2018 Olympics. It marked the first time since 1998 that NHL players didn't take part in the Winter Games, and it sounds like Bettman prefers to continue with that approach."I know the players love representing their countries, I know that the players like going, I know that the players that don't go like having a break in the middle of the season," he said. "But from our standpoint, we have found going to the Olympics to be incredibly disruptive ... to our season."Bettman also confirmed that he recently met with International Ice Hockey Federation president Rene Fasel but couldn't provide any significant update on their discussions regarding the NHL's Olympic participation."We had another meeting. We've had many, many meetings, and there is no news to report," Bettman said. "I would suggest it was more a philosophical and procedural discussion. (NHLPA executive director) Donald Fehr also participated in the meeting, but I have nothing to report on that front."The NHL traveled to Shanghai for preseason contests in both 2017 and 2018 as part of the China Games. Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. With four games on Friday, 11 on Saturday, and seven more on Sunday - including a matinee on each day - there's no reason to leave your home during one of the busiest weekend slates so far this season.Game bettingTampa Bay Lightning at Buffalo Sabres (Friday)The NHL is taking its show to Stockholm, Sweden, for a doubleheader between the Lightning and Sabres this weekend. Tampa Bay hasn't come anywhere close to living up to lofty expectations so far this season, but a trip across the pond might be exactly what it needs to break out of this funk. Buffalo, meanwhile, has lost three in a row after a hot start, scoring just three goals in those games. The Lightning have dominated this series, winning 16 of their last 20 over the Sabres. This feels like a safe spot to ride with the chalk.New Jersey Devils at Edmonton Oilers (Friday)At this point, we no longer have to keep calling this the Taylor Hall Revenge Game - he's been gone long enough. The Oilers have also dominated the Devils since trading Hall to New Jersey, beating them in five of six games that he's featured in, including both at Rogers Place. Following back-to-back home losses this week, trust Edmonton to round out its homestand with a win on Friday night.Philadelphia Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs (Saturday)For the second successive Saturday night, the Leafs and Flyers will clash on Hockey Night in Canada, and they have a tough act to follow after last weekend's 11-round shootout. Both teams are coming into this game hot; Toronto's on a three-game winning streak and Philadelphia's on a four-game point streak. Following a pair of unders for each team this week, look for an outburst of goals on Saturday night, as the over has hit in nine of the Flyers' last 12 visits to Toronto.Vegas Golden Knights at Washington Capitals (Saturday)It'll be a 2018 Stanley Cup rematch in D.C. on Saturday night with the Golden Knights visiting the Capitals. Washington is on an improbable run of 10 overs in its last 11 games, while both meetings with Vegas last year also flew over the total. At the rate the Capitals have been scoring, it's only right to keep riding the wave and trust the over in this spot.Dallas Stars at Winnipeg Jets (Sunday)Don't look now, but the Stars are back to .500 after winning seven of their last eight games, while the Jets haven't been able to string any sort of streak together. Winnipeg has won just one of its seven contests at MTS Place in regulation - with a game against the Canucks scheduled for Friday before this one - and the last five have all gone under the number. Dallas' winning streak has been predominantly based on good defense and goaltending, so look for another tight encounter here with the game staying under the total.Toronto Maple Leafs at Chicago Blackhawks (Sunday)Michael Hutchinson will almost certainly get the nod here for the Leafs in their fifth back-to-back of the season. They're 0-4 in this spot so far, while the Blackhawks are actually 2-0 when playing their second game in as many nights. Chicago is struggling and could be in for a long season, but this is a nice spot to back the team at plus-money while continuing to fade the Leafs until they prove capable of winning on no rest.Game propsVancouver Canucks at Winnipeg Jets (Friday)Despite all the talk about Winnipeg's lack of talent on the blue line, the early returns haven't been nearly as bad as advertised. The Jets have allowed just nine goals in their last five home games, while the free-scoring Canucks haven't been nearly as strong offensively outside of British Columbia. Vancouver has scored just five goals in its last six trips to Winnipeg, so the team total under 3.5, 2.5, and perhaps even 1.5 are all worth strong consideration.Los Angeles Kings at Montreal Canadiens (Saturday)The Canadiens sure love playing on Saturday nights. They've scored at least five goals in four of their five games on Hockey Night in Canada this season and there's no reason that shouldn't continue against a Kings team that has allowed 63 goals already this season - only the Red Wings have conceded more. Bet the over on the Habs' team total at 3.5, and even at 4.5 if you want to live a little.Toronto Maple Leafs at Chicago Blackhawks (Sunday)Adding to the note on this game above, the Leafs have allowed 18 goals (excluding shootouts) in their four games on the second half of a back-to-back, while the Blackhawks have scored eight in their two. Overall, the first-period over has hit in four of those six contests. You can back the over on the 1.5-goal total in the opening 20 minutes, while also putting some coin on Chicago's team total over 3.5.Player propsLos Angeles Kings at Montreal Canadiens (Saturday)Max Domi is marred in a bit of slump with just one point in his last six games after recording an assist in six straight. There's no better spot for him to break out than at home against one of the worst defensive teams in hockey.Nashville Predators at San Jose Sharks (Saturday)The Sharks can't prevent anyone from scoring these days, as they're level with the Kings in allowing 63 goals already this season. The Predators shouldn't have an issue getting on the scoreboard, with Roman Josi a good bet to record an assist in this game. He has 12 through the first 16 contests, including seven on the power play.Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. The Montreal Canadiens received a baffling penalty at the end of the third period on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers, and coach Claude Julien was predictably infuriated."There's a point there that they've (referees) got to take certain responsibilities," Julien told reporters postgame, according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels. "What's disappointing to me is after that, I don't know if they felt embarrassed but they made sure that we weren't going to get any breaks."Midway through the third period in a tie game, the Canadiens changed lines after an icing call because they believed the puck deflected off someone at center ice. They were then handed a delay of game penalty for debating the icing call and not changing back to the same line quick enough."I'm trying to put the same guys back on the ice and they're not letting me," Julien added. "And I'm telling him that, 'You want the guys that are on the ice, I'm giving you the guys.' And he gives me a delay of game penalty."The Canadiens coach didn't shy away from calling out the officials and how they handled themselves after botching the call."I was disappointed in the way it was handled after," he said. "The stick to Drouin's face that everybody saw, (the official) saw it. I know he saw it and decided not to call it."Despite being called for six penalties while Philadelphia took none, Julien didn't completely blame the referees."Honestly, I can take a lot of responsibility ... Most of the penalties tonight, they were penalties. Slashing, hooking, this and that. So we take responsibility for that."The Habs went on to lose to the Flyers in overtime.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward Nic Petan and defenseman Martin Marincin on waivers, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.Petan has played only five games for the Maple Leafs this season and was recalled for a one-game stint earlier this week. He's recorded a single assist in his NHL appearances in 2019-20.Marincin has been a fill-in on the Leafs' blue line, suiting up for seven games this year without recording a point. Despite an unexpectedly hot start to the season, the Edmonton Oilers weren't up to the task when measuring themselves against the Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues on Wednesday.St. Louis handed Edmonton a 5-2 home loss and claimed its sixth consecutive victory while maintaining its hold of first place in the Western Conference. The Blues' ability to close out the win was something the Oilers took note of afterward."This was a lesson for us," Edmonton defenseman Oscar Klefbom told The Canadian Press. "This was a playoff game and obviously we have a long way to go. We have to find a way to win these games because there are going to be many of them this year."We're going to play a lot of good teams and we have to be ready. They played last night, and we gave them a little bit too much and it cost us."Despite the loss, Edmonton put together a strong showing versus the defending champs in a number of statistical categories, owning a 34-25 advantage in shots on goal while firing 54.74% of shot attempts and producing 56.52% of scoring chances at five-on-five, according to Natural Stat Trick. The defeat was the Oilers' second in a row to kick off a three-game homestand that will conclude Friday versus the New Jersey Devils. It's something that I will definitely remember."The 42-year-old defenseman stood up on the bench and waved to the crowd upon being recognized Tuesday for his achievement during a stoppage in play.Chara doesn't fault Montreal's fans for booing him over the many years of his involvement in the rivalry."That just shows that they are very passionate fans (and) they support their team," he said. "Pretty normal for Canadien fans (to) show so much support for their team. We've had some good battles and it's a good rivalry. There's a lot of history with both teams, so it's always fun to play these games.â€In March 2011, Chara drew the ire of Canadiens fans when he hit then-Montreal forward Max Pacioretty into the stanchion at Bell Centre. Following the incident, some Canadiens fans called 911 and tried to get charges filed against the gargantuan blue-liner.Chara became only the sixth rearguard in NHL history to suit up in 1,500 games, joining Chris Chelios, Scott Stevens, Larry Murphy, Ray Bourque, and Nicklas Lidstrom. All five of those legends are enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Winnipeg Jets forward Bryan Little needed 25-30 stitches after taking a teammate's slap shot to the ear area during Tuesday's contest against the New Jersey Devils, the team announced.Little was taken to the hospital to have the laceration closed before being transferred to the neurological unit for further observation. He was alert at all times. The Jets did not provide an update on his status moving forward. Here's a look at the incident:Little, 31, has a history of concussions, including one that caused him to miss the first nine games of the season. The veteran center has proven to be an important player for Winnipeg. The Jets are 4-2-1 with him in the lineup this season and 4-5-0 without him. He's registered a pair of goals and three assists in seven games.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Mike Babcock might not have been too impressed with his Toronto Maple Leafs after they squeezed out two points against the lowly Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, but he saw the game as a stepping stone."We need to go through that," the head coach said postgame, according to Yahoo Sports' Justin Cuthbert. "We need to figure out who we are, and the harder the game is for us the better it is."Would you like to win by a touchdown and everyone relaxes and all that? Yeah, but we're not getting anywhere like that. This is important to do."The Leafs mustered just 23 shots on goal and were tied with the Kings late until Auston Matthews and William Nylander scored back-to-back markers midway through the third period to seal the victory."You give up one goal, you play well without the puck, goalie makes some saves, we didn't win it on special teams, we had to grind. It was good for us," Babcock added. The Leafs will face a stiffer test at home on Thursday when they take on the Vegas Golden Knights.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Despite the Calgary Flames' 4-3 overtime victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday, head coach Bill Peters wasn't happy with his team's performance."We gotta start playing for each other and playing the right way," Peters said postgame. "I don't think we're doing that right now. I don't see that. If we are, I'm missing it a little bit."Peters didn't shy away from calling out certain players, either."You've got guys skating in mud, and (Mark Giordano) is skating in mud, and (Elias Lindholm) is skating in mud, and you're relying on these guys to come back, too, and they're gassed."We need more out of some veteran guys."The Flames gave up several high-quality scoring chances to the Coyotes and trailed by two with less than four minutes to play in regulation. They eventually evened the score before Matthew Tkachuk buried the overtime winner.Calgary currently sits fifth in the competitive Pacific Division with a 9-7-2 record but is just two points behind the first-place Edmonton Oilers.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg will miss at least two weeks after sustaining an injury in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche, head coach Jim Montgomery said postgame.Klingberg left late in the second period and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest with what the Stars classified as a lower-body ailment. The 27-year-old blue-liner was struck up high by a shot from Avalanche rearguard Nikita Zadorov shortly before exiting, and Montgomery confirmed Klingberg suffered the injury on that play.Montgomery added the team will know more about the defenseman's status after he's evaluated Wednesday.Klingberg has managed only four points in 17 games this season, but he entered Tuesday's contest ranking second among Stars players in average ice time.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is being sued by a Las Vegas casino that claims the 28-year-old failed to pay back $500,000 in gambling markers he received in mid-April.The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which filed the lawsuit Monday, claims Kane took out eight separate credits of varying amounts between $20,000 and $100,000, according to court documents obtained by Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.The Cosmopolitan also seeks repayment of legal fees associated with the lawsuit.Kane and the Sharks were in Las Vegas playing the Golden Knights in the first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs around the time he reportedly used the markers. The Vancouver native is in the second season of a seven-year, $49-million deal he signed with San Jose ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Calgary Flames forward Milan Lucic doesn't agree with the league's decision to suspend him two games for roughing Columbus Blue Jackets winger Kole Sherwood during Saturday's contest."I mean, it was pretty clear, (Sherwood) spears, slashes the goalie and I was standing up for him," Lucic said on Tuesday, according to Flames reporter Kristen Anderson. "I'm more than willing to do that. I thought the referees got it right on the ice the first time."Lucic delivered a sucker punch to Sherwood after the Blue Jackets winger tried to poke the puck free from beneath Flames netminder David Rittich before the whistle. Sherwood was shaken up but returned to finish the contest, and Lucic was handed a double minor for roughing.Despite the punishment, Lucic says he doesn't plan to change his approach."They even got a slashing penalty on the play," Lucic said. "I think even Rittich said it was the second time he got slashed in three games and you have to step up for your teammates and I'm more than willing to do that. This suspension won't change that moving forward."The 6-foot-3 enforcer isn't alone in his disapproval of the league's decision. Flames general manager Brad Treliving also chimed in on Sunday, saying the club vehemently disagrees with the suspension. However, Lucic is a repeat offender after being suspended four times and fined on five occasions over his 13-year career.Treliving acquired Lucic this past offseason from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward James Neal in effort to add more toughness to the Flames' lineup. The captain is back.Toronto Maple Leafs star John Tavares suited up Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings after missing the last seven games with a broken finger. The Leafs held their head above water without Tavares, going 3-2-2 in his absence.Toronto still produced 3.14 goals per game during the seven-game stretch, but the power play suffered, going just 2-for-22 without Tavares. The 29-year-old had three goals and four assists in eight games before suffering the injury against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 16.Tavares drew in for fellow veteran Jason Spezza, who recorded two points - including his first goal as a Leaf - on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Leafs also made two other lineup changes.Jake Muzzin said he's good to go after leaving Tuesday's game against the Caps with a charley horse and missing Saturday's tilt versus the Flyers for personal reasons. Taylor Hall says his comments about New Jersey Devils supporters weren't intended to be malicious."The media can make whatever they want out of it," the star forward told the assembled media, including TSN, on Tuesday before the Devils' game against the Winnipeg Jets."(I) was just trying to say that getting booed sucks," he continued. "Any time you're playing on home ice, you always want to play well in front of your fans, and that was basically about it."Following an overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning last Wednesday, Hall said, "We’re kind of battling our own fans right now. We were 1-for-3 on the power play and we are getting booed. It’s a tie game, we are getting booed."The 27-year-old added that he doesn't want to let being booed affect him, but admitted "sometimes it does."Devils head coach John Hynes defended Hall when asked about him on Tuesday."When you look at Taylor, he's had a great time in New Jersey and continues to do so," Hynes said. "He's got a great relationship with the fans. I think some of that comment was a little bit taken out of context, and I think it more of, if I think the quote was extended when he said it, it wouldn't have been taken out of context."But he came in, it's (just) like him, he came back in the next game and played real well, had a nice goal, and I think all is good there."New Jersey was expected to improve after an offseason overhaul that included adding P.K. Subban, Jack Hughes, and Nikita Gusev. However, the Devils are struggling out of the gate and have won just three of their first 12 games entering Tuesday night's matchup. However, the underlying numbers are slightly concerning for the club.Edmonton has outscored teams 18-9 at five-on-five when McDavid is on the ice despite being outshot and outchanced. That's a testament to McDavid's skill, but even a little regression from him would be incredibly detrimental to the Oilers' playoff chances.

Pastrnak has also been terrorizing opponents, and he leads the league in goals and points.Hockeyviz.comThe Boston wingers' underlying numbers show how dominant they've been to start this season. Following the Los Angeles Kings' 8-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 9, Drew Doughty made headlines when he said "a team like that should not be beating a team like ours 8-2.""There's actually no way," he continued. "I know they had a lot of energy right off the bat because it's their home opener and they had their whole ordeal with the captain and whatever. But we had chances to come back, and then we just gave up a goal right after we scored a goal. It was a bad team effort by everyone on this team, I thought."Doughty's remarks inspired a new Canucks team slogan.

Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. There are some tasty games on tap this week as we head into the first midweek slate of November. The highlights include a Pacific Division clash in Edmonton, an Original Six rivalry in Montreal, and a meeting between two of the league's highest-scoring teams in the Sunshine State. Here's your guide to betting all of those games and more:Game bettingArizona Coyotes at Edmonton Oilers (Monday)All the talk to start the season was about how good the Central Division is, but it hasn't held a candle to the Pacific thus far. The Oilers lead with 21 points, while the Coyotes sit sixth despite an 8-4-1 record. Edmonton has steadied the ship with back-to-back wins but Arizona has caught fire and is the better team of the two. Back the Coyotes at even money Monday night.Montreal Canadiens at Boston Bruins (Tuesday)Little else gets the Bell Centre going quite like a visit from the big, bad Bruins does. This rivalry has simmered down a bit since the days of Tim Thomas and Carey Price dropping the gloves, but it still remains one of the most entertaining in hockey. The Bruins have their eyes fixed on this game as they start Jaroslav Halak on Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins to save Tuuka Rask for Montreal. Still, the Canadiens are typically very strong at home, and with Boston traveling on a back-to-back, this is as good a spot as we can find these days to fade the Bruins. They'll deal Boston a rare loss Tuesday night.St. Louis Blues at Vancouver Canucks (Tuesday)These two teams would sit atop their respective divisions if you used points per game rather than total points. The Canucks are 4-0-1 at home this season, scoring at least five goals in half of their games, including five of their last six. That prowess will be put to the test against the defending Cup champions, though the Blues' defensive record on the road has been less than stellar. Goals shouldn't be in short supply in this one, which has all the makings of a fascinating watch.Washington Capitals at Florida Panthers (Thursday)Both teams will be rested for this game, as the Panthers last played Saturday and the Capitals most recently suited up a day later. Florida has quietly been an offensive powerhouse this season, while nine of Washington's last 10 games have gone over the total. Until they start setting the Capitals' totals at 7.5, there's no reason not to keep betting the over.Vegas Golden Knights at Toronto Maple Leafs (Thursday)Toronto has consistently been beaten at home by good teams this season, losing to the Blues, Capitals, and Tampa Bay Lightning. The line is always a bit inflated for the Maple Leafs - as tends to be the case for a public team - but these home games remain great spots to fade Toronto until it provides evidence to suggest it's finding its game. Vegas has not impressed on the road this season, but there is great value in backing the Golden Knights as underdogs.Game propsColorado Avalanche at Dallas Stars (Tuesday)Injuries continue to plague the Avalanche, who have scored one goal or fewer in three of their last six contests. This is a tough game for them to rediscover their scoring touch, as they square off with a Stars team that rarely concedes at home. Playing Colorado's team total under 2.5 would appear to be the logical choice, but have a look at the first-period under instead. Scoring will be at a premium over the opening 20 minutes between these two; their last five meetings in Dallas have produced just three goals in the first frame.Detroit Red Wings at New York Rangers (Wednesday)Let's stick with the first-period unders here. There has been one goal or fewer scored during the initial 20 minutes in the last nine meetings between the Red Wings and Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Who are we to go against tradition?Los Angeles Kings at Ottawa Senators (Thursday)Just about anyone can score on the Kings these days, even the Senators. Los Angeles has allowed at least five goals in five of its seven road games this season, while Ottawa has scored at least four in four of its last six at home. The Senators should be attractively priced to go over the 3.5 team total and we should take advantage.Player propsLos Angeles Kings at Toronto Maple Leafs (Tuesday)The Maple Leafs could bring back Mike Komisarek and he would probably score in this game, so Auston Matthews definitely should. He's scored 10 of his 11 goals at home this season and will have ample opportunity to continue that trend against Los Angeles on Tuesday night.Washington Capitals at Florida Panthers (Thursday)Brett Connolly has got his Panthers career off to a strong start with five goals through the first 14 games. Look for him to add to his tally against his former team in what will be his first contest against the Capitals after spending the last three years in Washington.Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. Los Angeles Kings forward Tyler Toffoli is subject to early-season trade chatter for a number of reasons, and being a healthy scratch last week has escalated matters.Toffoli was left out of the lineup Oct. 30 versus the Vancouver Canucks after going pointless in eight consecutive games. The 27-year-old addressed the trade rumors on Monday."I mean, it's just the way it is," Toffoli said, according to Sportsnet's Luke Fox. "It comes with not playing well and not winning games, so whatever happens, happens."I was definitely disappointed (by the scratch), but at the end of the day it's not my decision. My job is to go out there and perform."Toffoli has been a staple in the Kings' attack since 2014, and benching him was not an easy choice for new head coach Todd McLellan."You debate whether you're doing the right thing or the wrong thing, but the end game is what it's about when you're making a decision," McLellan said."Toff started the season really well. He fell off a little bit, and we didn't want to let it go."In his first game back in the lineup on Nov. 2, Toffoli recorded two assists in a victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. The win was Los Angeles' third in its last 10 games.Toffoli is an unrestricted free agent at season's end, and he carries a cap hit of $4.6 million. The retooling Kings might try to recoup some assets for the right-winger before the trade deadline.Toffoli could be an attractive option for contending teams looking to add offensive depth. He's eclipsed 20 goals twice in his career and 30 once, and he won a Stanley Cup with Los Angeles in 2014.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero and Taylor Hall's agent Darren Ferris are planning to sit down at some point during the club's western Canada road trip this week.It will mark the first face-to-face meeting between Shero and Ferris since training camp."Ray and I connect regularly," Ferris told NHL.com's Mike Morreale in a text message. "I will be at the games out west and I am sure we will connect at some point during this time."Hall is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at season's end, but Shero is hoping to sign the former Hart Trophy winner to an extension."I know they're supposed to meet but I'm not sure when it will exactly happen," Hall said Monday. "I think I'll definitely talk to Darren beforehand and just chat about how things are going. But at this point in time, there's not much that Darren and I haven't really talked about. We both know what the situation is and we're just kind of waiting to see what transpires over the next couple weeks, month, or couple months."Shero was busy this offseason, trading for P.K. Subban and Nikita Gusev, and bringing in Wayne Simmonds via free agency. The club also nabbed Jack Hughes with the top pick in the 2019 draft. With a revamped roster, Shero was hoping the Devils would return to the postseason, which, in theory, could help persuade Hall to stay. However, a 3-5-4 start has the Devils sitting last in the Metropolitan Division with 10 points. If the Devils don't improve and aren't able to agree to an extension with Hall, Shero may be forced to shop the superstar at the trade deadline - something he didn't consider a year ago.Hall, who has just five career playoff games under his belt, has played his part so far this season, tallying 12 points in as many games.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc.
