Soylent News is a new Slashcode based site. They have not launched yet, but they have an active wiki, forum, and IRC channel.

There is an active group of slashdot refugees on Usenet at comp.misc .
You can read usenet through an account at eternal-september.org or aioe.org and then use a news reader like Thunderbird or Pan .
Alternatively you can get there through Google Groups or, if you want an interface which resembles Slashdot, through s'qute .

A suggestion: since the stories are a bit lean, why don't you replace your story feed for the time being with some other feed? Say scrape the front page of news.ycombinator or something.
Then, as the site gains membership, slowly turn down the spigot of stories from other sites, and turn up the spigot on yours. (Alternatively, just weight stories that originate from the Pipedot pipe higher than from other feeds).
I don't know how to fix the lack of comments.

I seem to remember that, (many?) years ago, /. itself was mirrored on Usenet. Maybe it even had its own hierarchy, I'm not sure.
