Hill to be game-time decision vs. Texans
Kansas City Chiefs star receiver Tyreek Hill will be a game-time decision for Sunday's clash against the Houston Texans, head coach Andy Reid announced Friday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. There is "optimism" that Hill will receive clearance to return for Week 6 after missing four games with a clavicle injury, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day.Rapoport added that Hill will undergo a scan on the injury ahead of the important game against Texans, a fellow AFC contender."Similar to the Sam Darnold situation (with the New York Jets), feelings are one thing, but tests and scans are another thing," Rapoport said. "They are going to scan the bone, make sure that it has healed properly, make sure it's safe for him to be out there."Hill was a limited participant in practice Wednesday and was then upgraded to full for Thursday's session. While Hill could return, it appears Sammy Watkins will likely be sidelined in Week 6, as the veteran pass-catcher was listed as doubtful due to a hamstring injury, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher. The Chiefs have gone 3-1 since Hill suffered the injury in the season opener, with their high-flying offense continuing to rack up yards (444.6 per game, second in the league) and points (29.6 per game, fourth). However, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Co. were stymied by the Indianapolis Colts in last week's surprising 19-13 loss. The quarterback has thrown just one touchdown in the last two games after tossing 10 in his first three starts. The potential return of Hill, who was named a first-team All-Pro in 2018 after a 1,479-yard campaign, would be a major boost for a Chiefs team looking to keep pace with the undefeated New England Patriots.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. We're getting some rare value with Kansas City because the Texans beat up on the lowly Atlanta Falcons last week while the Chiefs not only lost to the Indianapolis Colts, but Patrick Mahomes hurt his ankle in the process. However, the injury doesn't appear to be serious, so there's no use overreacting to it.
Redskins name Keenum starter, Haskins backup vs. Dolphins
Interim Washington Redskins head coach Bill Callahan reinstalled Case Keenum as the team's starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins and announced rookie Dwayne Haskins will be the backup. The Week 6 game will be the Redskins' first since the team fired head coach Jay Gruden after an 0-5 start. Gruden went with Keenum for the first four weeks before benching him for Haskins in Week 4 and replacing both with Colt McCoy last Sunday.Though Callahan is returning to Keenum, he isn't making a long-term commitment to the journeyman quarterback."I think the NFL is a week-to-week thing," Callahan said.In four games, Keenum completed 68% of his passes for 970 yards while throwing seven touchdown passes and four interceptions. He's also been sacked seven times and lost two fumbles.Due to the turnovers and ineffective play, Haskins played the majority of Week 4 and went 9-for-17 for 107 yards and three interceptions. In McCoy's lone game at the helm, he went 18-for-27 for 122 yards and one interception while taking six sacks.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Redskins' Peterson excited about new offensive direction under Callahan
Jay Gruden is gone, and tailback Adrian Peterson is pleased about new Washington Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan's emphasis on establishing the running game."I'm hyped about it man. You look at the first four weeks that I've played, it was like - what, 11, 12, 10, seven carries - like totally opposite of what we did last year when we were more successful as a team," Peterson said to reporters Thursday, including The Washington Times' Matthew Paras. The Redskins have run for just 344 yards this year - the sixth-worst mark in the league - while passing on 69% of their plays. During his first press conference as head coach of the team, Callahan stressed that a new offensive focus for the 0-5 Redskins is one of his top priorities."I'd like to get our run game going," said Callahan, according to Redskins.com's Zach Selby. "I think that's important because everything else is complementary off it - the run action, passes and protections off of it complement your running game."Callahan added, "Running the ball sets an attitude, sets a physical style, it sends a message and it puts confidence in your line and your backs."Peterson previously clashed with Gruden, who preferred injury-prone youngster Derrius Guice (who's returned to the injured reserve) leading his backfield. The veteran now seems hopeful and eager thanks to his new situation with Callahan."Obviously something wasn't working so there needs to be some type of change, so it feels good to have this change," added the Oklahoma product. "It's what it's gonna take for us to get going as an offense."
Keenan Allen: Broncos' Harris can't hold my jockstrap
Despite being held to 18 yards on four receptions in Week 5, Keenan Allen doesn't think Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. is good enough to carry his jockstrap."Go watch the film, bruh," the Los Angeles Chargers wideout told Fernando Ramirez of NBC San Diego. "This is not a secret."Allen and Harris have mixed it up before. The two Pro Bowl talents typically line up across from each other when the Chargers and Broncos meet. The jockstrap became a talking point after Allen commented on a Harris fan account on Instagram."Now, y'all know damn well that boy can't hold my jockstrap," he said. "Stop it."In nine career games against the Broncos, Allen has averaged 4.8 receptions for 45.3 yards. He's caught five touchdown passes in those contests.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Patriots' Gordon knocked out of TNF with knee injury
New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon was forced out of Thursday Night Football against the New York Giants after suffering a knee injury in the second quarter. The team said he was questionable to return, but the wideout began the second half on the sideline and never reentered the game. Despite his absence, the Patriots coasted to a 35-14 victory. The 28-year-old got hurt while trying to tackle Giants linebacker Markus Golden, who was returning a Tom Brady fumble to the end zone.Gordon, who recorded 280 receiving yards and one touchdown coming into the game, caught one pass for seven yards versus the Giants prior to his departure.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Brady passes Peyton Manning for 2nd-most passing yards in NFL history
Tom Brady continued his climb to the top of the record books on Thursday Night Football. The New England Patriots quarterback leapfrogged Peyton Manning for the second-most career passing yards in NFL history on his first throw against the New York Giants.Brady passed the mark on a dump off to running back Sony Michel that went for 19 yards, bringing the future Hall of Famer's career total to 71,942 passing yards, behind only Drew Brees' 74,845.The 42-year-old passed legendary gunslinger Brett Favre for third on the list in Week 5, and he's now eclipsed his contemporary Manning, who he beat in 11 of 17 contests during their storied rivalry.Over his 20-year career, the pivot has also compiled 527 touchdown tosses (12 behind Manning's all-time mark), 6,122 completions (good for fourth all time), 35 fourth-quarter comebacks (eight back of Manning's lead), and 212 regular-season wins (first all time).Aside from appearing in the most Super Bowls (nine) and winning the most championships (six) while being named Super Bowl MVP four times, Brady has also been lights out in the playoffs, ranking first all time in postseason wins (30), touchdown passes (73), and passing yards (11,179).Brady will look to continue climbing the all-time passing yards list as Brees, the man he's chasing, sits out with a thumb injury.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Patriots owner says Gronk hasn't filed retirement papers: 'There is hope'
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft isn't convinced that Rob Gronkowski will stay retired as the team prepares to chase another Super Bowl."We all love Gronk and I think the bottom line is, he hasn't put his retirement papers in," Kraft told NFL Network before his Patriots faced the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. "We can always pray and hope. ... That's a good academic argument that there is hope for us still with Gronk."Kraft's remarks come two days after Gronkowski joined FOX Sports as an NFL analyst. The legendary tight end hung up his cleats in March after winning his third championship with the Patriots. In his debut for the network, about an hour after Kraft spoke, Gronkowski acknowledged that a comeback isn't completely out of the cards."I'll always keep it open," he said. "I'll always keep the door open."Since retiring, Gronkowski has revealed the draining effects that football had on him physically and mentally. He's also vouched for the allowance of CBD products to help players deal with pain."I was not in a good place," Gronkowski said in late August. "Football was bringing me down, and I didn't like it. I was losing that joy in life."He added at the time that he was still physically capable of playing in the NFL, but was "very satisfied" with the state of his life. While he wasn't as dominant in his final season as he had been in the past, Gronkowski came up with several clutch catches in the playoffs and remained an excellent blocker. The 30-year-old was regarded as one of the greatest tight ends of all time when he retired after nine seasons - all with the Patriots.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Agent: 'I have never seen anything like' Kaepernick's unemployment
Representatives for quarterback Colin Kaepernick released a fact sheet on Thursday that pushes back on "false narratives" regarding his unemployment, which is approaching three years in length.According to the statement, no team has offered Kaepernick a contract or put him through a workout since he became a free agent in March 2017."Seattle brought Colin in for a visit but did not work him out," it says. "Afterward, Pete Carroll said Colin is a 'starter in this league.' No other NFL team has interviewed or worked out Colin in the past three seasons, despite other false statements in the media to the contrary."Kaepernick became a polarizing public figure in 2016 when he began kneeling during the national anthem before games to protest police brutality and social injustice. In the statement, agent Jeff Nalley said Kaepernick only opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers because the 31-year-old was informed he would be released, and he wanted to get a head start on free agency."I have reached out to all 32 teams about Colin's employment, with little to no response from teams about an opportunity for Colin," Nalley says. "In 25 years, I have never seen anything like it."The fact sheet describes Kaepernick's workout regiment, notes his statistical achievements, and addresses the notion that he was a distraction in the 49ers' locker room. It also denies long-standing rumors that Kaepernick has demanded a specific salary, calling that "completely false."The entire statement can be viewed here:
Giants' Jones was a Panthers fan: Brady's 2nd title was 'heartbreaking'
Tom Brady and Daniel Jones will square off Thursday night, but it wasn't long ago when the rookie was at home watching the veteran signal-caller on TV.Jones, who was born in Charlotte and raised as a Carolina Panthers fan, told ESPN's Jordan Raanan that his first memory of the Patriots quarterback is New England's Super Bowl championship over his hometown team in 2004."I remember where I watched it," Jones told Raanan. "(We) went to a friend's house. The Dickens' house. A family friend. Obviously it was heartbreaking when (Patriots kicker Adam) Vinatieri made that field goal."The New York Giants passer was only 6 years old at the time and said he didn't have particularly negative feelings about Brady, adding, "(I) don't think I knew that much at that age."Jones said, "(I) grew up watching him. Obviously he's won a lot, achieved a lot in his career. So a lot of respect for that."The six-time Super Bowl champion is 20 years older than Jones and won his first title when the rookie was 4.New England looks to continue its undefeated season on Thursday against the Giants, who currently sit third in the NFC East at 2-3.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Packers' Adams says toe 'doesn't feel how I want it to feel'
Green Bay Packers top wideout Davante Adams continues to deal with a turf toe injury, and he won't rush himself back from the nagging issue."It is a major injury, so it's something that we gotta pay attention to and make sure we monitor in the correct way to make sure it's not something that gets re-aggravated later on in the season, or I come back too early and really mess the thing up," Adams told reporters on Thursday, including Josh Moser of Fox 11 Sports. The injury was originally considered minor, and now the two-time Pro Bowler has sat out a game and he doesn't know a timetable for his return."I can't really tell you when I'm gonna play, I don't know, " said the 26-year-old. "It doesn't feel how I want it to feel at the moment, but we definitely have time."Adams suffered the turf toe injury, which can often linger all season, during a Week 4 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He posted his best performance of the campaign before going down, snagging 10 balls for 180 yards that night. If the Fresno State product misses a second straight game, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Geronimo Allison will continue to pick up the slack out wide, this time in a divisional Monday night tilt against the Detroit Lions.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Bengals HC on Green rumors: 'We are not trading that guy'
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor wants to shut down rumors that star wideout A.J. Green could be dealt away before the Oct. 29 deadline."I've heard the speculation. We are not trading that guy," Taylor said Thursday, according to The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr.There's been plenty of talk that Green - who's in the final year of his contract while the Bengals appear set to rebuild - could be sent packing this month. The receiver previously said he hopes to stay in Cincinnati for the rest of his NFL career, and his teammates have voiced strong support for keeping Green in the fold. The seven-time Pro Bowler has yet to make his 2019 debut due to an ankle injury he suffered during training camp. Green is reportedly set to miss another week of action, though he practiced in a limited capacity Thursday for the first time since July 27.Without their top offensive weapon, the Bengals have gone 0-5 to begin the season.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Thursday Night Football betting preview: Giants vs. Patriots
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. The New England Patriots will look to stay undefeated when they host the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football in Week 6. Here's everything you need to know about the prime-time clash from a betting perspective.Line movementThe Patriots will close as double-digit favorites for the fourth time in six games to start the season. New England opened at -16.5 before being bumped up to -17. But as of Wednesday afternoon, some Giants money had pushed the spread back down to -16.5.Perhaps the more intriguing move has been the total, which opened as high as 46 and shifted down to as low as 41. The forecast is calling for steady rain with winds of up to 20 mph by kickoff.Betting breakdownNew England could very well be 5-0 against the spread (ATS) despite taking a healthy amount of action on a weekly basis. The Patriots didn't cover in Week 3 despite the Jets failing to score an offensive touchdown. And in Week 4, they missed the cover by one point in a 16-10 win over the Bills. So far, New England's opponents are 4-1 to the team total under, thanks to a Patriots defense that's No. 1 in the league in both yards and points allowed per game.Meanwhile, the Giants have been oddly great for bettors on the road, covering eight of their last nine games away from home. However, Thursday will be quite the test for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, who will be without wide receiver Sterling Shepard, tight end Evan Engram, and running backs Wayne Gallman and Saquon Barkley, who have all been ruled out due to injury.Important trendsThe baseline spread for home-field advantage in the NFL is three points. You can shade a point or two for the Patriots, but it still hasn't been enough lately, as New England's on a blistering 40-17-2 run ATS at home. The Patriots have also had little trouble covering large spreads, as seen by their current 17-5 run ATS as double-digit favorites.X-FactorIt's not Jones' fault that he was selected No. 6 overall by the Giants this year. Whether or not that pick was a reach, Jones quieted the naysayers with a 32-31 win over the Buccaneers in his first start back in Week 3, and he followed that up with another victory at home against the Redskins. The Patriots, though, have feasted on rookie quarterbacks. Head coach Bill Belichick is 19-5 straight up against first-year signal-callers in his career, including a perfect 12-0 at Gillette Stadium. Though nabbing an outright win would be nothing short of a miracle, covering the 16.5 points would be a consolation prize for Jones and Co.PickLongest touchdown under 38.5 yardsI don't think you'll see many explosive plays in this game due to both the matchup and the weather. The Giants rank No. 8 in the league in explosive runs, though they'll be thin in the backfield and up against arguably the best defense in the NFL. And while the Patriots' offense is playing well overall, it ranks just 20th in explosive plays.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Dolphins' Rosen ready to prove he's 'their guy moving forward'
The winless Miami Dolphins appear well on their way to securing one of the top selections in next year's draft, with which they're widely expected to target one of the top quarterbacks in the class. However, before the Dolphins can think about landing their next franchise player, sophomore quarterback Josh Rosen - who was acquired for a second-round pick during the 2019 draft and has been named the starter for the rest of the season - will undertake a 12-game audition to force the AFC East club to change its plans."The way I am sort of approaching this year is I feel like I am really just trying out for the team," said Rosen, according to Kyle Crabbs of Dolphins Wire. "I feel like I am auditioning and I am trying to put my best foot forward and prove to everyone upstairs and 'Coach Flo' (head coach Brian Flores) and (general manager) Mr. (Chris) Grier that I am the man moving forward."It is not like what you would - I don't know, it's a different circumstance than a lot of other quarterbacks have been put in; but it is the one that I have been given and I am taking it in full stride and I am excited to hopefully prove over these next 12 more weeks that I am their guy moving forward."Rosen has started the Dolphins' last two games after replacing veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. Both have been double-digit blowout defeats. While the former UCLA standout has received little help from the team, which has traded away much of its top talent in a rebuilding effort, his struggles from his rookie season with the Arizona Cardinals have continued.Rosen has thrown for 380 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while completing just 55.6% of his passes in his two starts. He's also been sacked seven times. He'll likely need to step up his game considerably to convince the Dolphins that he's worth passing on the likes of Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and LSU's Joe Burrow for.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Frustrated Beckham willing to do 'whatever to win'
Odell Beckham Jr.'s first season with the Cleveland Browns isn't unfolding according to plan, but the star receiver is doing his best to maintain a positive attitude.Over his last two games, Beckham amassed just four catches for 47 yards. Though the overall production hasn't met expectations, he remains focused on winning."Whatever (it takes) to win. I just want to help," he told reporters Thursday, according to Keith Britton of 92.3 The Fan. "I feel like I was brought here to help. If it has to be handoffs ... it's more about having success within the game, the team."He added, "I hate losing, period. Anytime we lose and I don't feel like I did anything to help win the game, I'm going to be frustrated."Asked about his recent struggles and the criticisms that come with them, the three-time Pro Bowl wideout responded that he would "just deal with it" and attempt to "do more when we do get an opportunity.""I'm a big boy," Beckham said. "I can handle any criticism, any words that are said about me, anything. I'll take more on my plate. I'll take that responsibility 10 times out of 10."Beckham's blockbuster trade to Cleveland from the New York Giants was among the highest-profile moves of the offseason. He battled hip injuries to begin the campaign and hasn't caught a touchdown pass since his standout Week 2 performance against the New York Jets. The Browns' offense will look to rebound Sunday in a home matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Gurley's Week 6 status unclear due to quad injury
Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley's status for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers is "up in the air" after he suffered a quad injury in Week 5, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Gurley, who didn't practice, is day-to-day due to the left thigh contusion."I think we just want to take it a day at a time. A lot of these conversations entail how's he feeling, what kind of progress does he make throughout the course of the week," McVay said. "But fortunately for us, we've got some depth at that position."We've talked about it, whether it's this week at some point, the confidence we have in Malcolm (Brown), but then there's also going to be a time we rely on Darrell Henderson, and it might end up being this week."McVay said Gurley's injury caught the team "off guard." He added that the Rams knew the running back was dealing with pain following the loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but they were surprised the soreness lingered into the start of this week's preparations.Gurley struggled with a knee injury late last season. However, while his workload has decreased to start the campaign, the former Offensive Player of the Year has appeared to be fully healthy.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jaguars owner expects Ramsey to play Week 6 after 'heart-to-heart'
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan expects disgruntled cornerback Jalen Ramsey to return from his two-game absence in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints, according to The Street's Katherine Ross.Ramsey is currently battling a back injury and returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. He last played in Jacksonville's Week 3 win over the Tennessee Titans after asking for a trade in mid-September."You've gotta balance what's good for the team with what the individual's wishes might be," Khan told Ross. "I met him a couple of days ago, (we) had a heart-to-heart (conversation), and I think we'll be able to come to whatever makes sense for all."The star defender recently reiterated his desire to be dealt, but Khan stated he's unwilling to do so.Jacksonville's owner previously said he'd be willing to make Ramsey the NFL's highest-paid cornerback. Drafted fifth overall by the team in 2016, the 24-year-old is tied to his rookie contract through the 2020 campaign. The Jaguars currently sit at 2-3 and the AFC South lead is well within reach. Ramsey's addition would help the team's defense of star Saints receiver Michael Thomas on Sunday.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Falcons' Quinn won't give up defensive play-calling despite struggles
The Atlanta Falcons' defense was torched by Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson to the tune of five touchdowns, 426 yards, and a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in Week 5's 53-32 loss.It was the latest in a series of defensive humiliations for the 1-4 Falcons, who have allowed more points (30.4 per game) than every other team but the winless Miami Dolphins. However, Falcons head coach Dan Quinn - who took over defensive play-calling duties prior to this season - said Wednesday he has no plans to hand over the responsibilities."My job is to fix it," Quinn said, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure. "Moments like this are a reminder of why we coach and play, because we love it so much. But my ego would never be as big as the team. I always do what’s best for the team. ... If I felt (giving up the play-calling) was best, trust me, I would have certainly done that. I know what we can do, we can do better. So that’s kind of where my mind is."I recognize the question, for sure, when you’re not achieving the results you have. But trust me on that one: My ego is never as big as the team. I will always do what’s best for that. But at this time, I don't think that's where I'm at."Atlanta's defense has struggled in virtually every facet of the game. It's tied for last in the NFL in sacks, ranks 30th in third-down percentage given up, and sits 24th in red-zone touchdowns allowed. In 2018, the Falcons' issues were blamed on injuries to the likes of linebacker Deion Jones and safety Keanu Neal. While the latter is again lost to a season-ending injury, Jones, along with other key contributors such as pass-rushers Takkarist McKinley and Vic Beasley, and cornerback Desmond Trufant, have failed to play up to expectations.Trufant has been burned for a league-leading five touchdowns, per Pro Football Focus, while McKinley and Beasley have combined for just two sacks. After the blowout defeat to Houston, Quinn was given public support by Falcons owner Arthur Blank. However, the head coach is still widely viewed as sitting on one of the league's hottest seats.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Brees says he's progressing in his injury rehab by 'leaps and bounds'
Drew Brees has some encouraging news for New Orleans Saints fans. The veteran quarterback, who's been out of commission for three weeks with an injured thumb, told WWL Radio on Wednesday that he's progressing by "leaps and bounds" every day in his recovery."As far as a rehab perspective, we're fast-tracking this thing as fast as we can," Brees said. The 40-year-old signal-caller, who's been vocal about beating his six-week recovery timetable, also discussed the fact that his surgically repaired thumb has put him in uncharted territory."No NFL quarterback has ever had this kind of surgery done on his throwing hand, with the internal brace," Brees explained. When asked about a recent video he posted that shows him throwing a non-regulation ball, Brees admitted that while he can now grip an NFL football, he still has a ways to go before getting up to game speed. Brees also added that he'd be throwing a real NFL football, "sooner rather than later."
Kelce after argument with OC Bieniemy: 'We're good ... I love him'
Kansas City Chiefs fans don't need to worry about tight end Travis Kelce and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after their disagreement. When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Kelce downplayed the altercation he got into with his OC during the team's 19-13 loss on Sunday Night Football to the Indianapolis Colts."We're good, we've moved on as a team from last game. And you guys gotta understand me and coach Bieniemy have a very close relationship," Kelce said. "I love him, he's helped me out tremendously as a person, as a professional, and I'm sure he'll keep doing that throughout the rest of my career.""He's like a father figure, in terms of being there for me on the field," added Kelce. After the tight end dropped a ball during the SNF matchup, the two argued and Kelce shoved Bieniemy, and the coach and player needed to be separated. Kelce was seen hugging Bieniemy shortly afterward. The four-time Pro Bowler is known for his fiery temper, and he said emotions got the best of him again during the situation with Bieniemy."Sometimes you get a little heated with your brothers or your coaches," said Kelce. The 30-year-old was clearly frustrated during the loss to the Colts, complaining several times to officials about non-calls. The Cincinnati product finished with four grabs for 70 yards on the night.Kelce and the rest of the Chiefs will look to bounce back against the Houston Texans in Week 6.

NFL upholds Burfict's season-long suspension
The NFL has upheld Oakland Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict's season-long suspension for his head-to-head hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle in Week 4, the league announced Wednesday.Hall of Fame linebacker and NFL appeals officer Derrick Brooks heard Burfict's appeal. Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr both spoke on Burfict's behalf at the meeting, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN. Burfict's camp reportedly emphasized the fact he hadn't been flagged in over 190 plays leading up to the suspension.Burfict's hit - which earned him an ejection - did not force Doyle from the game, and the tight end has not been evaluated for a concussion. But video recently surfaced showing a second dirty hit by Burfict in that game, a play which went unpenalized and may have affected the appeal process:
Rihanna confirms declining SB LIII halftime show to support Kaepernick
Rihanna has addressed why she turned down an opportunity to perform during the Super Bowl LIII halftime show."Absolutely," the singer told Vogue's Abby Aguirre when asked if she declined the invitation in solidarity with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. "I couldn't dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn't be a sellout. I couldn't be an enabler. There's things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way."Reports first emerged in October 2018 that Rihanna turned down an offer to headline the show because she didn't agree with the NFL's stance on the kneeling controversy. She later posted on Instagram that she was boycotting the Super Bowl, prompting a show of appreciation from Kaepernick.

But he's now joined by three players who have seen their odds shorten significantly since the opening numbers were released: Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson (11-2), Carolina Panthers running Christian McCaffrey (10-1), and Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson (12-1).Here are the latest odds for the NFL MVP, along with some of the biggest movers since odds were released in June:PlayerOpening OddsCurrent OddsPatrick Mahomes4-1EVENRussell Wilson14-111-2Christian McCaffrey80-110-1Deshaun Watson60-112-1Carson Wentz10-114-1Tom Brady12-120-1Dalvin Cook200-120-1Aaron Rodgers8-125-1Philip Rivers14-140-1Dak Prescott100-140-1Lamar Jackson100-140-1Matthew Stafford80-160-1Ezekiel Elliott60-160-1Alvin Kamara80-160-1Jimmy Garoppolo80-160-1Matt Ryan25-1100-1Baker Mayfield25-1100-1Jared Goff60-1100-1Drew Brees10-1500-1Mitchell Trubisky200-11000-1Biggest MoversRussell Wilson, QB Seahawks (14-1 to 11-2)Wilson's odds haven't moved as much as those of some other players, but the Seahawks quarterback is now the second favorite behind Mahomes after opening 14-1. Wilson is off to a sizzling start, completing 73% of his passes for 1,409 yards with 12 touchdowns and no interceptions through five games. The Seahawks aren't blessed with a ton of talent, especially on the offensive side of the football, but they overachieve thanks to Wilson and head coach Pete Carroll. If Seattle wins the tough NFC West and Wilson continues to play well, he'll be the biggest threat to unseat Mahomes as MVP.Christian McCaffrey, RB Panthers (80-1 to 10-1)Only one running back has won the MVP award since 2006: Adrian Peterson in 2012. Will McCaffrey be the second? Oddsmakers like his chances right now. McCaffrey is one of the board's biggest movers, going from 80-1 at open to 10-1. The Panthers are 3-0 without injured quarterback Cam Newton and McCaffrey is the main reason why. Over that three-game span, he's recorded 604 total yards, 19 receptions, and five touchdowns. Those are eye-popping numbers, but it's best to sell McCaffrey at 10-1. The odds are still against a running back winning the award, and it will be difficult for McCaffrey to maintain the 30-touch average he's posted in over the last three weeks.Deshaun Watson, QB Texans (60-1 to 12-1)Watson was initially undervalued at 60-1, but he's now overvalued at 12-1. This move is an overreaction to his 426-yard, five-touchdown performance against an awful Falcons defense last week; it's worth remembering Watson's thrown for 159 and 160 yards with a combined zero touchdowns in two of his five games. He's a good player, but Houston's offense is too inconsistent for him to beat out someone like Mahomes. There's also no more value at 12-1. The Texans QB was a much better option when his odds were 25-1 or longer.Dalvin Cook, RB Vikings (200-1 to 20-1)The player who's seen his odds shorten the most since the opening numbers were released is Cook. Topping 100 yards rushing in four of five games and averaging a ridiculous 5.9 yards per carry, the Vikings running back has lept from a distant 200-1 into a tie for the sixth favorite at 20-1. Still, Cook is unlikely to take home the MVP award; he'll put up a few duds during games in which Kirk Cousins struggles. Grabbing Cook at odds of 50-1 or longer makes sense, but there's no value taking him right now at 20-1.Baker Mayfield, QB Browns (25-1 to 100-1)Think back to a time when the Cleveland Browns were going to compete for their first Super Bowl title and people were betting Mayfield to win the MVP. That time was two months ago. A lot has changed since then. Cleveland has stumbled out of the gate with a 2-3 record, while Mayfield is coming off the worst performance of his career after posting a 13.4 QB rating against the San Francisco 49ers. His current 100-1 odds are a bit of an overreaction to that game, but he's not going to win MVP. And the Browns aren't winning the Super Bowl. There's always next year.Mitchell Trubisky, QB Bears (200-1 to 1000-1)Trubisky made summer headlines when his MVP odds moved from 200-1 to 60-1 mere hours after the opening numbers were released. You can never say never - except in this case. Go ahead and burn those Trubisky MVP tickets.Thomas Casale is theScore's supervising editor of sports betting. Report: Redskins' Keenum expected to start Week 6
Washington Redskins quarterback Case Keenum is expected to return from his foot injury and start in Week 6, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Keenum started the first four games of the season before being pulled for rookie Dwayne Haskins in Week 4. Colt McCoy then started Washington's Week 5 loss to the New England Patriots.Interim head coach Bill Callahan didn't view Haskins as a candidate for the starting job ahead of Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. He did, however, say he wants Haskins to get playing time before the end of the year.Former coach Jay Gruden, who was let go following an 0-5 start, reportedly didn't want to draft Haskins with the team's No. 15 overall pick this year but was overruled by team owner Daniel Snyder.Keenum was acquired from the Denver Broncos in a trade this offseason. He's completed 68% of his passes for 970 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions across four games in Washington.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. AB wants call from Patriots: 'Still gotta pay me, might as well let me earn it'
Free-agent wide receiver Antonio Brown took to Instagram Live on Wednesday morning to update his followers on his situation - and ask for a favor."You guys (that) follow the Patriots, tell them to call me," he said during the stream. "They still gotta pay me so might as well let me earn it."
NFL Power Rankings - Week 6: Every team's standout rookie
The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors. This week, we're highlighting one rookie from each team who's made an impact through five weeks.1. New England Patriots (5-0)Michael Reaves / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 1Third-round pick Chase Winovich has yet to start a game, but his four sacks trail only Jamie Collins (4.5) for the team lead. Jake Bailey also deserves an honorable mention for averaging 43.4 yards per punt.2. New Orleans Saints (4-1)Previous Rank: 3After being selected in the second round, Erik McCoy slid right into the starting lineup and has anchored a stout Saints blocking unit. McCoy's movement skills make him an excellent pass blocker, as he's allowed just four total pressures in five starts.3. Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)Previous Rank: 2He's no Tyreek Hill, but Mecole Hardman has stretched defenses with his speed while Cheetah's been sidelined due to injury. The rookie wideout has racked up 246 yards and two touchdowns through the air, and his explosiveness fits perfectly in Andy Reid's dynamic offense.4. Green Bay Packers (4-1)Previous Rank: 6The Packers' defense is playing with newfound fire, which is largely due to the presence of Darnell Savage. The rookie safety's speed, instincts, and playmaking ability have helped turn Green Bay's secondary into one of the NFL's best.5. Seattle Seahawks (4-1)Abbie Parr / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 5The Seahawks needed a field-stretcher, and DK Metcalf has been just that. The Ole Miss product is averaging 22.3 yards per reception while opening up underneath routes for Tyler Lockett and others.6. Los Angeles Rams (3-2)Previous Rank: 4Taylor Rapp is the lone rookie who's carved out a role with the veteran-laden Rams, earning snaps in dime packages and as the top backup safety. The former Washington standout missed Week 5 with an ankle injury, but he's been solid in coverage when called upon.7. San Francisco 49ers (4-0)Previous Rank: 10Nick Bosa, the No. 2 overall pick, has consistently forced his way into opposing backfields, even when he hasn't hit home. He had five QB hits and two sacks against the Browns on Monday Night Football, and he's been the top pass-rusher on the 49ers' new and improved defensive line.8. Philadelphia Eagles (3-2)Previous Rank: 8Miles Sanders has yet to truly break out, but the running back out of Penn State is forming a nice one-two punch with Jordan Howard. The two have recorded nearly the identical amount of carries (Sanders 54, Howard 53), but the veteran is outpacing the rookie with 248 yards on the ground and four touchdowns to 193 rushing yards and zero scores.9. Houston Texans (3-2)Previous Rank: 17Many pundits were surprised when Charles Omenihu slid to the fifth round in April, and Houston is reaping the rewards. Omenihu has flashed big-time potential against the run and pass. The interior rusher ranks eighth among rookies in total pressures despite playing in only three games to date.10. Dallas Cowboys (3-2)Ronald Martinez / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 7The Cowboys have received marginal contributions from their draft class to this point. The only notable impact has come from backup running back Tony Pollard, who's recorded 168 rushing yards and a touchdown when spelling Ezekiel Elliott.11. Indianapolis Colts (3-2)Previous Rank: 16Without a first-round pick, Indianapolis used its first selection on Rock Ya-Sin at No. 34 overall. The feisty cornerback has started three of five games thus far while displaying good coverage potential. He's also yet to miss a single tackle.12. Baltimore Ravens (3-2)Previous Rank: 12"Hollywood" has been putting on a show since his first NFL snap. Marquise Brown and Lamar Jackson have quickly formed a lethal connection, with the receiver using his game-breaking speed to rack up 326 yards and three touchdowns so far.13. Detroit Lions (2-1-1)Previous Rank: 11T.J. Hockenson hasn't replicated his record-setting 133-yard Week 1 debut, but he's continued to display the skill set of a top-tier tight end. A second-half breakout could be coming once Hockenson returns from a concussion.14. Buffalo Bills (4-1)Previous Rank: 14Each of the Bills' top draft picks are contributing - including Ed Oliver, Devin Singletary, and Dawson Knox - but it's Cody Ford who's made the biggest impact. The second-round pick is starting at right tackle, and though he's taken three penalties and allowed four sacks, he's also run blocking for the league's No. 7-ranked rushing attack.15. Minnesota Vikings (3-2)Stephen Maturen / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 18Dalvin Cook has been an elite running back to start the season, but his rookie backup has been almost as impressive. Alexander Mattison has recorded 189 yards on 34 attempts (5.6 average) with one touchdown. The third-rounder's emergence could be key for the Vikings, who will want to keep Cook healthy and fresh down the stretch.16. Oakland Raiders (3-2)Previous Rank: 25Josh Jacobs has helped revitalize Oakland's offense, as he's already up to 430 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. The rookie is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and is PFF's second-ranked running back behind Christian McCaffrey.17. Carolina Panthers (3-2)Previous Rank: 19The reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month, Brian Burns wasted little time showing off his athleticism and pass-rushing prowess. The first-round pick leads all rookies with 18 total pressures while also racking up 3.5 sacks and two blocked punts.18. Chicago Bears (3-2)Previous Rank: 9Chicago's rookie class has yet to make a major impact. Running back David Montgomery's lack of touches has been surprising and he hasn't produced like many expected. However, the rookie is a victim of his offensive line and has flashed enough for the Bears to put more work onto his shoulders.19. Los Angeles Chargers (2-3)Previous Rank: 15It hasn't been a banner start for the Chargers' rookie class, but Drue Tranquill has at least showed some promise. The fourth-round linebacker has been a steady tackler and could see his playing time increase before long.20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3)Mike Ehrmann / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 20Matt Gay has been everything Tampa Bay could have asked for in a rookie kicker. The fifth-rounder has made 10 of 12 field-goal attempts, which includes a perfect record from 50-plus yards out. Not many first-year kickers can hit a 58-yarder on the road.21. Cleveland Browns (2-3)Previous Rank: 13Cornerback Greedy Williams has looked solid when on the field, but he's missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury. So, the nod goes to fifth-round kicker Austin Seibert, who's hit all eight of his field-goal attempts while missing just one extra point.22. Tennessee Titans (2-3)Previous Rank: 21Second-round pick A.J. Brown was one of the gems in a stacked 2019 receiving class. Brown ranks fourth among rookies in receiving yards, second in missed tackles forced, and second in yards after the catch.23. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3)Previous Rank: 22Has any NFL rookie made more of an impact than Gardner Minshew through five weeks? The sixth-round QB took the reins after Nick Foles went down and is playing the game like a savvy veteran. After all hope appeared lost in Week 1, Minshew has the Jaguars in the hunt for a playoff spot.24. New York Giants (2-3)Steven Ryan / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 23Daniel Jones wasn't even supposed to play in 2019, yet the rookie quarterback has led the Giants to two victories in three starts despite an inferior supporting cast beset by injuries.25. Denver Broncos (1-4)Previous Rank: 27Dalton Risner has given the Broncos a much-needed boost on the offensive line, thriving particularly in pass protection. Denver moved the former Kansas State tackle to guard after drafting him and the move is paying dividends.26. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-4)Previous Rank: 26Devin Bush has finally filled the void in the center of Pittsburgh's defense that was left by Ryan Shazier. The positives have been few and far between for the Steelers this season, but the linebacker's quick transition to the NFL level is a major one. Bush leads all rookies in tackles while stuffing the rest of the stat sheet.27. Atlanta Falcons (1-4)Previous Rank: 24After battling a heart condition this summer, Kaleb McGary has started all five games for Atlanta at right tackle. McGary, the Falcons' second first-round pick this year, has flashed strength and technique as a run-blocker and a pass-protector despite a number of tough early-season matchups.28. Arizona Cardinals (1-3-1)Previous Rank: 28All eyes in the desert have been on No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray, but second-round pick Byron Murphy has produced the better season to date. The cornerback leads Arizona with four pass breakups, and he's earned the right to start opposite Patrick Peterson when the latter returns from suspension.29. Washington Redskins (0-5)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 29Third-round pick Terry McLaurin leads the Redskins in receiving yards (308) and touchdowns (three) despite playing in just four games. He trails Marquise Brown for the league lead among rookie pass-catchers by just 18 yards.30. Cincinnati Bengals (0-5)Previous Rank: 31Winless through five weeks, Cincinnati doesn't have many players performing well, let alone rookies. But linebacker Germaine Pratt deserves more snaps after impressing in limited action.31. New York Jets (0-4)Previous Rank: 30Through four games, the Jets have almost nothing to show from a draft class that included the No. 3 overall pick. Jachai Polite was released, Chuma Edoga allowed two sacks in one game, and Quinnen Williams has five tackles in two contests. The winner, by default, is fifth-round linebacker Blake Cashman, who has 15 tackles and four quarterback hurries, though he's also allowed eight catches and a touchdown in coverage.32. Miami Dolphins (0-4)Previous Rank: 32Underscoring the litany of Dolphins issues is that their best rookie through five weeks went undrafted. Receiver Preston Williams has been perhaps the lone bright spot for the struggling Fins, as he leads the team in all receiving categories with 15 catches, 201 yards, and a touchdown.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Dolphins' Flores: Rosen to start rest of season
Josh Rosen will be the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, head coach Brian Flores announced Wednesday, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald."I like where Josh Rosen is," Flores told reporters, according to The Palm Beach Post's Joe Schad. "He's improving on a week-to-week basis. He's a young, talented player. He needs reps to improve. Throw the ball away when scrambling. Make good decisions. Be accurate."The Dolphins acquired Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals during April's draft for a second-round pick. He was locked in a training camp battle with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick - which he ultimately lost - before being named the starter prior to Week 3.In two starts this season, the 2018 first-rounder has completed 55.6% of his passes for 380 yards, one touchdown, and one interception behind a struggling offensive line and running game. The winless Dolphins battle the Washington Redskins in Week 6 before two straight road tilts with the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sherman: 'My bad' for saying Mayfield refused handshake
Richard Sherman is taking a step back after sparking a mild controversy Tuesday by accusing Baker Mayfield of snubbing him of a pregame handshake before their Monday Night Football matchup.Shortly after Sherman said Mayfield refused to shake his hand, video emerged proving that to be untrue.
Lions' Patricia 'more nervous' to face Rodgers after beating QB twice in 2018
The Detroit Lions swept Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in 2018, but last season's results aren't helping Lions head coach Matt Patricia relax heading into their first matchup of 2019."I think for us, it's all about this year," Patricia told reporters Tuesday, according to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. "Probably makes me more nervous than anything, to be honest with you, just knowing what a competitor (Rodgers) is."So from my standpoint, it's all about trying to prepare and get ready this year and the things that they’re doing this year. Certainly, they're in a really good spot and they're operating at a very high level, so we've got a big task in front of us."Rodgers and the Packers currently lead the NFC North at 4-1 behind a balanced offensive attack and a stout defense. At an individual level, the two-time MVP isn't off to his best start, but Patricia knows that could change at any moment."I think you guys know me well enough to know that I'm extremely competitive," the coach said. "I want to win and everything I do I try to make sure I do it to the best of my abilities."But when you're staring across the line of scrimmage at Aaron Rodgers, you know you've got a long day of work in front of you."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Steelers' Washington to miss few weeks with shoulder injury
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been hit with the injury bug leading up to their Week 6 tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers.Wide receiver James Washington is expected to miss a few weeks with a shoulder injury he suffered Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The news comes as quarterback Mason Rudolph is still in the league's concussion protocol, which leaves undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges as the potential starter against the Chargers.Pittsburgh is already without Ben Roethlisberger, who was ruled out for the season after suffering an elbow injury in Week 2.Washington has started four of five games this year and has just nine catches for 140 yards.Diontae Johnson and Donte Moncrief are likely to see increased snaps out wide across from JuJu Smith-Schuster.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jon Gruden sympathizes with brother Jay after firing: 'Welcome to the club'
Jay Gruden isn't the first member of his family to be fired from an NFL job, and his brother, Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, reminded him and the media of that on Tuesday. The Washington Redskins relieved Jay of his head coaching duties Monday, and his older brother offered some words of sympathy."I got a lot of respect for my brother, obviously, and disappointed for him getting fired," Jon said. "But, my dad's been fired, I've been fired, Jay's been fired ... welcome to the club, bro."Jon, who was seemingly in a good mood after leading his team to an upset win over the Chicago Bears in Week 5, would not speak on the possibility of his brother joining his staff. The Gruden brothers previously coached together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002-2008. Jon served as head coach, while Jay was an offensive assistant. The Bucs went 57-55 during that span, including a win in Super Bowl XXXVII.Jon's Raiders have put together a 3-2 record so far this season and will take their bye in Week 6.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. 49ers' Juszczyk out 4-6 weeks with MCL sprain
San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk suffered an MCL sprain and will be sidelined for about four-to-six weeks, the team announced Tuesday. The seven-year veteran was injured in the second half of the 49ers' 31-3 pummeling of the Cleveland Browns on Monday and had to be carted off the field.Juszczyk will get a second opinion on the knee, as the team holds out hope that he could beat the four-to-six-week timetable, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Harvard product has been a key piece of the 49ers' potent run game, a group that leads the NFL through five weeks with a whopping 200 yards on the ground per game. Juszczyk has been instrumental in leading three different San Francisco backs to 80-plus yard rushing games this season. The Medina, Ohio, native is not known for carrying the ball - which he's done just once for 6 yards so far this season - but has been a Pro Bowl selection for the last three consecutive years because of his blocking prowess. The 49ers will face a tough test when they head to Los Angeles to take on the defending NFC champion Rams in a Week 6 divisional tilt.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Broncos' Bausby: 'I was paralyzed for 30 minutes' after scary hit
Denver Broncos cornerback De'Vante Bausby needed to be carted off Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers after taking an unintentional helmet-to-helmet hit from his own teammate.Bausby admitted to reporters Tuesday the hit and resulting injury left him temporarily immobile."I was never unconscious, I just couldn't move, but I was still talking and everything," the 26-year-old said, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. "The doc, the neurologist said I was going to be fine and I just trusted that, and after about 30 minutes I was able to wiggle my toes and after a couple hours I was able to regain full mobility so I was straight, I was fine ..."They said I was paralyzed for 30 minutes; after 30 minutes I could wiggle my toes and after two hours I could move everything else."Bausby was released from hospital Sunday evening, but it was determined he suffered a cervical sprain and the team has already ruled the three-year pro will miss time. The Broncos aren't sure how long they'll be without Bausby, but they're not about to rush him back."Don't know if he'll miss the rest of the season or not. (With) these (injuries), the first few days and week will tell the story," head coach Vic Fangio said.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Fantasy: Waiver Wire - Week 6
Find positional rankings, additional analysis, and subscribe to push notifications in the NFL Fantasy News section.Every Monday during the season, theScore's Justin Boone runs down the recommended waiver wire pickups.Ownership percentages are based on Yahoo leagues. FAAB bids are set off a $100 budget. Only players owned in less than 60 percent of leagues are considered.QuarterbacksHannah Foslien / Getty Images Sport / GettyKirk Cousins, VikingsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. PHI41%$1When projecting the Vikings' offense before the season, we took account of their new run-first approach. Unfortunately, we didn't plan for Adam Thielen to use the nuclear option and voice his complaints with the offense to the media. The result was Cousins offering a verbal apology and following it up with an on-field apology, which included seven catches, 130 yards, and two touchdowns for Thielen. Minnesota will still run the ball far more than it passes most games, but it will be forced to the air in Week 6 against the pass funnel Eagles defense. So you can expect Cousins to flirt with QB1 fantasy numbers for a second straight week.Josh Allen, BillsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidon Bye51%$4If you're looking for a Week 6 streamer, Allen isn't your guy. However, after his bye, the Bills quarterback has an incredibly soft schedule that features the Dolphins, Eagles, Redskins, Browns, and then the Dolphins again. With both a high ceiling and floor thanks to his rushing stats, fantasy managers can deploy Allen as a starter during that stretch. In his two easy matchups this season against the Giants and Bengals, Allen finished as the QB7 and QB15.Other options: Gardner Minshew II vs. NO (23% owned), Matthew Stafford at GB (53% owned), Kyle Allen at TB (10% owned), Teddy Bridgewater at JAX (9% owned), Sam Darnold vs. DAL (13% owned)Running backsRalph Freso / Getty Images Sport / GettyIt's a thin week for anyone in need of an immediate running back starter in fantasy. Players like Kenyan Drake vs. WAS (55% owned) and Adrian Peterson at MIA (47% owned) are available in some leagues and can be considered as matchup-dependent options, but they come with plenty of risk in bad offenses. So let's take this opportunity to identify some of the elite backups or handcuffs you should be targeting this time of year.Chase Edmonds, CardinalsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. ATL2%$7With word that David Johnson battled a back injury during Sunday's win over the Bengals, Edmonds needs to be owned everywhere. Though Johnson played through the issue - posting 156 yards from scrimmage on 20 touches - head coach Kliff Kingsbury said his star runner will be monitored all week. Edmonds isn't the top handcuff, but he has seen his production rise in each of his last three outings, culminating in 11 touches, 86 yards, and a touchdown in Week 5. If Johnson were to sit out, Edmonds would be a fantasy RB2 with a three-down skill set in one of the league's fasted-paced offenses.Malcolm Brown, RamsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. SF28%$5My tendency when it comes to the waiver wire is to be aggressive when there's a player you covet, especially early in the season. So, after Week 1 when Brown picked up 53 yards and two scores, I recommended bidding big to get him on your team. Sadly, his role in the offense has declined, making him more of an elite handcuff than a weekly contributor. We still don't know if Todd Gurley's knee will hold up for an entire 16-game campaign, so Brown remains a strong stash with RB1 potential.Tony Pollard, CowboysNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat NYJ23%$5Pollard's early-season fantasy value evaporated when Ezekiel Elliott ended his holdout before the season. The good news was that we saw enough in August to know that Pollard is more than capable of handling the load if something were to happen to Elliott. The rookie flashed his skills again while delivering his first 100-yard game in a Week 3 destruction of the Dolphins and would be a true league-winner if given starter's snaps behind the Cowboys' offensive line.Alexander Mattison, VikingsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. PHI23%$5Dalvin Cook has been one of the MVPs of the fantasy season thus far with four 100-yard rushing games and is well on his way to a career year. Still, he's missed 17 games over his first two NFL campaigns, adding slightly more injury risk to his outlook than other top backs. Mattison has been solid while spelling Cook, racking up 189 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries. The rookie would be a top-10 fantasy option if Cook were sidelined.Rashaad Penny, SeahawksNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat CLE54%$5A hamstring injury prevented Penny from challenging for the starting role when Chris Carson nearly fumbled it away in the first few weeks. With Penny back in the lineup, Carson re-established himself as the lead back in Week 5, but ball security or health issues could open the door for Penny again at some point. Even as the team's No. 2 back, he's amassed at least 49 yards from scrimmage in two of his three games this season, leaving you to wonder what kind of damage he could do with a more robust workload.Other options: Jon Hilliman at NE (0% owned), Giovani Bernard at BAL (11% owned), Ito Smith at ARI (14% owned), Darrel Williams vs. HOU (45% owned), Jordan Wilkins on Bye (6% owned), Gus Edwards vs. CIN (7% owned), Ryquell Armstead vs. NO (2% owned), Ty Johnson at GB (1% owned), Rex Burkhead vs. NYG (28% owned), Jamaal Williams vs. DET (11% owned), Ty Montgomery vs. DAL (5% owned), Raheem Mostert at LAR (28% owned), Justice Hill vs. CIN (9% owned), Dion Lewis at DEN (21% owned), Reggie Bonnafon at TB (0% owned), Mark Walton vs. WAS (0% owned)Wide receiversMike Ehrmann / Getty Images Sport / GettyDK Metcalf, Dede Westbrook, and Mecole Hardman are all around the 60% ownership mark and should be owned in all leagues.Byron Pringle, ChiefsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. HOU1%$7Remember that strategy of owning anyone associated with Patrick Mahomes? It paid off again this week when Pringle was thrust into three-wide sets after Sammy Watkins left the game with a hamstring injury on the first series. Pringle led the receiving corps by catching six of nine targets for 103 yards and a touchdown while playing 78% of the Chiefs' snaps. Tyreek Hill is nearing a return, but Pringle should be rostered in case Watkins' hamstring issue lingers.Preston Williams/DeVante Parker, DolphinsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. WAS7%/9%$5/$5This isn't a great week to find instant impact players on the waiver wire, but you likely already knew that when you saw two Dolphins receivers listed here. Williams was one of our deep sleepers for 2019 and is starting to come on with 19 targets over the last two games since Josh Rosen took over at quarterback. Parker hasn't been far behind and had a respectable 4-70-1 line prior to Miami's Week 5 bye. If you're going to use them, this would be the game - they face a Redskins defense that's been torched by wideouts, including seven 60-plus-yard games and nine touchdowns in five weeks.Jamison Crowder, JetsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. DAL44%$5The last time Crowder took the field with Sam Darnold, he hauled in 14 of 17 targets for 99 yards in Week 1. His starting quarterback is likely returning, so Crowder re-enters the conversation as a WR3 in fantasy. With the Jets' offensive line struggling, short passes to Crowder could be a remedy, and their second-half schedule is among the league's easiest.Mohamed Sanu, FalconsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat ARI41%$5Sanu is my third-favorite fantasy receiver on his team and yet he cracks the list after putting up 75 yards or a touchdown in each of the last three games. The Falcons' defense isn't getting better and will force Matt Ryan to throw a high volume of passes every week. Sanu has proven he can offer flex value and the matchup with Cardinals is enticing enough to get him in your lineup.Other options: Diontae Johnson at LAC (34% owned), Auden Tate at BAL (22% owned), AJ Brown at DEN (23% owned), Deebo Samuel at LAR (30% owned), Dante Pettis at LAR (20% owned), Keke Coutee at KC (17% owned), Darius Slayton at NE (0% owned), Antonio Callaway vs. SEA (4% owned), Duke Williams on Bye (0% owned), Ted Ginn Jr. at JAX (7% owned), KeeSean Johnson vs. ATL (2% owned), Demaryius Thomas vs. DAL (3% owned)Tight endsAl Bello / Getty Images Sport / GettyChris Herndon, JetsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. DAL29%$7Tight end is the one position that does offer a variety of options this week. Herndon has been a recommended pickup here for several weeks and now he's a must-own coming off suspension. As a rookie, he was a top-seven fantasy tight end over a 10-game stretch from Week 6 to Week 16. The Jets' new coaching staff gushed about him in the offseason and he should produce another strong fantasy finish over the final 12 contests.Hunter Henry, ChargersNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. PIT40%$7Henry hasn't been ruled out for Week 6, but it's likely he sits out another game or two before making his return from a knee injury. If he's out there, he's a potential top-10 player at a position that doesn't have many reliable fantasy weapons.Gerald Everett, RamsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. SF8%$5Everett's long-awaited breakout may finally be here. The 25-year-old has 12 receptions, 180 yards, and a touchdown on 19 targets over the last two games. He continuously shredded the Seahawks' defense for chunk plays last Thursday, and with receiver Brandin Cooks dealing with a concussion, Sean McVay might need to shift more looks toward his young tight end. Everett is still a streamer for now, albeit one with top-12 upside if this trend persists.Other options: Dawson Knox on Bye (16% owned), Noah Fant vs. TEN (13% owned), Jason Witten at NYJ (54% owned), Vernon Davis at MIA (14% owned), Jordan Akins at KC (7% owned), Darren Fells at KC (0% owned)Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sherman says Mayfield snubbed pregame handshake: 'That's some college shit'
According to Richard Sherman, Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield lit a fire under the San Francisco 49ers prior to their 31-3 drubbing of the Browns on Monday Night Football. After his team's big win, the Niners cornerback claimed Mayfield refused to shake his hand prior to the coin toss."What's amazing, and annoying, was him not shaking hands at the beginning," Sherman said, according to NFL.com's Mike Silver. "That's some college shit. It's ridiculous. We're all trying to get psyched up, but shaking hands with your opponent - that's NFL etiquette."And when you pull bush-league stuff, that's disrespectful to the game. And believe me, that's gonna get us fired up."Sherman responded by intercepting Mayfield's fourth pass of the contest. Overall, the entire Niners defense got after the sophomore pivot, registering eight quarterback hits and four sacks. Mayfield was limited to 8-for-22 passing for 100 yards, two interceptions, and no touchdowns.Afterward, Sherman also implored the 24-year-old quarterback to "respect the game.""He hasn't earned anything in this league. How many games has he won? He's acting like he was the MVP last year," the cornerback said of Mayfield. "If (Patrick) Mahomes did that, it would be one thing. But he would never do that, because he has too much respect for the game. And when you see a guy who doesn't? You humble him every chance you get. Because eventually, he will have respect for the league - or he'll be out of it."San Francisco defensive tackle DeForest Buckner also said Mayfield snubbed his team before the game, while tight end George Kittle said he earned just a quick handslap."Everyone has their own alter ego that they lock into. His is, 'I'm going to mess you up.' I don't mind it. He's gone a long way with it," Kittle said.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. NFL Week 6 survivor picks
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. This week's column is dedicated to the Indianapolis Colts, with an honorable mention to the Oakland Raiders.Their respective Sunday upsets over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead and the Chicago Bears in London sewered a ton of survivor pool entries. But not ours. That's right, people - you just took a big step closer to glory. Now let's get right back at it with your Week 6 guide:Safest pick: Dallas CowboysIf you've made it this far without taking the New England Patriots, give yourself a pat on the back. There's likely a decent percentage of you who've picked: New Orleans Saints (Week 1), Baltimore Ravens (Week 2), Cowboys (Week 3), Los Angeles Chargers (Week 4), and Houston Texans (Week 5). The Texans were my "if you're feeling lucky" pick in Week 5. Hopefully, you were.If that's the route you've gone then you should be all over the Patriots this week. Don't give it a second thought. I have a pair of entries with the Pats still available and that's where I'm going. For the entries that don't have the luxury of the Pats in Week 6, let's turn our attention to the Cowboys.Coming off a disastrous display against the Green Bay Packers, the Cowboys were dealt their second loss of the season and their second in as many weeks. They couldn't get anything going offensively against a stout Packers unit before piling up points in garbage time. Dak Prescott was under constant pressure in the pocket as he threw three interceptions for just the second time in his career.Life should be much easier for Prescott against a New York Jets defense that ranks near the bottom of the NFL with just six sacks this season. Dallas will also receive a massive boost with tackles Tyron Smith and La'el Collins expected to be available for this game. Dak should be slinging darts from a clean pocket all day.On the other side of the ball, expect a spirited effort from a stout Cowboys defense after Aaron Jones dismantled them. They were a top-five unit in the NFL before Green Bay, but that showing was nothing more than an outlier. The return of New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold shouldn't be concerning, either. Darnold is obviously a significant improvement over Luke Falk, but it's hard to imagine he's anywhere close to game speed after battling mononucleosis. He will need at least a game to shake off the cobwebs, and Adam Gase's offense hardly inspires much confidence otherwise.
Darnold cleared to start vs. Cowboys
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has been cleared to return and will start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6, the team announced Tuesday.Darnold, the third overall pick of the 2018 draft, has missed three games since contracting mononucleosis after New York's season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills. He was cleared for non-contact activities last week.New York didn't score a single passing touchdown with Darnold on the shelf while averaging just 7.6 points per game. In Week 4, the Jets fell 31-6 to the Philadelphia Eagles as backup pivot Luke Falk was sacked nine times and intercepted twice. At 0-4, the Jets are one of four winless teams in the NFL.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Gronk joins FOX Sports as NFL analyst
Five weeks into the season, Rob Gronkowski is coming back to the NFL, but not in the same capacity he was once known for.The retired tight end has been hired as a regular analyst for FOX Sports' NFL programming. He'll debut on the Thursday Night Football pregame show ahead of the matchup between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants."I'm extremely excited to be joining FOX Sports. ... Their deep talent roster is unmatched, which was important for me as I embark on this new chapter in my life because I'll be able to learn from the best in the business," Gronkowski said in a press release. The 30-year-old retired from the NFL in March after winning Super Bowl LIII with the Patriots in February. He hasn't shied away from the public eye, however, making appearances in various roles, including as a pitchman.Gronk addressed rumors of a potential return to the football field in August. "Physically, I can do it," he said. "Mentally, desire-wise, I can't." He cited numerous serious injuries throughout his successful nine-year career as the reason for his retirement. He retired as a three-time Super Bowl champion, four-time All-Pro, five-time Pro Bowler, and future Hall of Famer."We're thrilled Rob chose FOX Sports for the next phase of his football life," FOX Sports executive producer Brad Zager said in a release. "He is one of the most popular players to ever play the game and also one of the best tight ends in NFL history. His passion for the game and larger-than-life personality make him a perfect fit."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Report: Barkley unlikely to play TNF vs. Patriots, Gallman out with concussion
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is unlikely to play in his team's Thursday Night Football matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 6, sources told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.Thursday's game is expected to be too soon for the 22-year-old back to receive medical clearance despite his return to practice last week, adds Raanan. The second overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft has missed two complete games since suffering a high ankle sprain 16 days ago during the first half of New York's Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After posting a league-best 2,028 yards from scrimmage as a rookie last year, Barkley was on pace for another solid campaign, averaging 137 total yards over the first two games before going down. The Giants' list of Week 6 absences also includes third-year running back Wayne Gallman, who started in relief of Barkley in each of the past two weeks. Gallman will miss Thursday's contest after suffering a concussion against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, reports Raanan.Undrafted rookie running back Jon Hilliman led the team with nine carries last week and will likely continue to see more action in a short-week tilt against one of the most dominant defensive units in the NFL this season.New England is currently ranked third in rushing yards allowed per game (78) and has yet to allow a touchdown by an opposing running back in 2019. The Giants, meanwhile, sit ninth in rushing yards per attempt (5.1) and 15th in rushing yards per game (116).Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. 49ers' Bosa taunted Mayfield all game: 'He had it coming'
Nick Bosa admitted he spent the San Francisco 49ers' bye week plotting revenge on Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, who ignited a rivalry in college."I don't usually talk, but in this game he had it coming," Bosa told reporters after helping the 49ers dismantle the Browns 31-3 on Monday Night Football, per SB Nation's Rob Lowder. "But he didn't say one word back."The beef started two years ago when Mayfield planted an Oklahoma flag at Ohio State after leading the Sooners to a victory over Bosa's Buckeyes."I was just screaming his name - 'Baaa-ker, Baaa-ker! You good? C'mon, we want a challenge,'" Bosa said. The rookie pass-rusher tormented Mayfield all night, finishing the game with five quarterback hits, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. He also mimicked the flag plant after taking down Mayfield on the final play before halftime.
Gruden not bitter over firing: 'I didn't get it done'
Jay Gruden doesn't hold any ill will toward the Washington Redskins, who fired him Monday morning after an 0-5 start to his sixth season as head coach."This is a production-based business, and I didn't get it done," Gruden told Les Carpenter of The Washington Post.He became the first coaching casualty of the 2019 season at 5 a.m. when he met Redskins owner Dan Snyder and president Bruce Allen.Gruden, who said he isn't bitter about his ouster, noted the difficulties of working with a roster depleted by injuries and the holdout of star left tackle Trent Williams."I just wish I could have had all of our offensive players," he said. "We never got to flex our offensive muscle."The former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator went 35-49-1 with Washington and was 0-1 in the playoffs. He worked under a Redskins front office long regarded as one of the most dysfunctional in the NFL.Washington named Bill Callahan, who was previously working with the offensive line, its interim head coach.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Bills trade Zay Jones to Raiders
The Buffalo Bills have traded wide receiver Zay Jones to the Oakland Raiders for a 2021 fifth-round draft pick, reports ESPN's Chris Mortensen.Jones, a former second-rounder, had seven receptions for 69 yards in five outings with Buffalo this season. He saw just one snap in Week 5.The 24-year-old never developed into the possession receiver the Bills envisioned when they drafted him out of East Carolina, with which he set a Division I record with 399 career receptions.Jones did show signs of promise last season, catching 56 passes for 652 yards and seven touchdowns. However, he saw a whopping 102 targets, making him one of the least efficient receivers in the league. The Raiders, who are off to a 3-2 start, went into their bye week dealing with injuries at wide receiver.Buffalo is 4-1 and also entering its bye.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Super Bowl odds update: Chiefs down, Colts up after Week 5 upset
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.A week ago, a glut of 2-2 teams complicated the middle of the Super Bowl oddsboard outside of the then-undefeated New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. Just a week later, we're starting to see some separation at the top, while preseason favorites are showing cracks in the veneer. Here are the updated Super Bowl odds after five weeks, with a look at a few of the biggest movers and potential values:TEAMODDS (10/7)ODDS (9/28)New England Patriots9-55-2Kansas City Chiefs6-17-2New Orleans Saints8-112-1Green Bay Packers14-116-1Philadelphia Eagles16-116-1Dallas Cowboys16-110-1Seattle Seahawks16-120-1Chicago Bears20-114-1Los Angeles Rams20-116-1Minnesota Vikings20-125-1San Francisco 49ers20-125-1Carolina Panthers30-160-1Baltimore Ravens35-140-1Los Angeles Chargers40-130-1Houston Texans40-140-1Cleveland Browns50-140-1Buffalo Bills60-180-1Detroit Lions60-180-1Indianapolis Colts60-1100-1Jacksonville Jaguars100-1100-1Oakland Raiders200-1200-1Tampa Bay Buccaneers200-1100-1Tennessee Titans200-1100-1Atlanta Falcons300-1200-1Pittsburgh Steelers300-1100-1Arizona Cardinals500-12000-1Denver Broncos500-11000-1New York Giants500-1100-1New York Jets2000-11000-1Cincinnati Bengals5000-11000-1Washington Redskins10000-15000-1Miami Dolphins50000-150000-1Kansas City Chiefs (6-1)Previous odds: 7-2So this team isn't unassailable, after all. Kansas City's biggest weakness became its undoing Sunday night when the Colts ran through a thin Chiefs defense for 180 yards and 12 first downs during a bludgeoning 19-13 win in Arrowhead Stadium. Patrick Mahomes didn't look like himself, either, after aggravating his left ankle injury.Still, this could be a fantastic time to buy. The Chiefs looked like juggernauts through four weeks, beating three teams with winning records and a Jaguars club that still had Nick Foles and Jalen Ramsey. Kansas City's schedule tightens in the coming weeks, but its toughest opponents are at home until a showdown with New England in December. Buy Chiefs stock before then.New Orleans Saints (8-1)Previous odds: 12-1The Saints have been flirting with being the cream of the NFC all season, and three straight wins without Drew Brees has finally pushed them back to the front of the pack. Teddy Bridgewater's career day in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay paired nicely with an emerging defense, which coincides with Marshon Lattimore's shift from early-season liability to reliable shutdown corner.New Orleans marched along Sunday even without a strong showing from Alvin Kamara, who could be the difference in a potential playoff matchup with Green Bay or Dallas. Once Brees comes back, it's hard to find a real fault in this year's iteration of the Saints - though it's a little too late to get great value, either.Los Angeles Rams (20-1)Previous odds: 16-1New Orleans last lost to Los Angeles, which has since dropped two of three after Thursday's one-point defeat in Seattle and Week 4's embarrassing showing against Tampa Bay.The ingredients are there for this team, but Jared Goff hasn't broken out of his late-2018 slump and the defense has been trending downward since beating up on a Brees-less Saints team. The contrarian bettor may find value at 20-1, which could very well be the longest we see the Rams' odds all year. This week's divisional test vs. San Francisco should be telling.Carolina Panthers (30-1)Previous odds: 60-1The Panthers saw arguably the most dramatic movement of the week, forcing oddsmakers to half their futures price after another stellar day from MVP candidate Christian McCaffrey. Fill-in quarterback Kyle Allen hasn't looked the same since his impressive season debut in Arizona, but McCaffrey and an opportunistic defense have provided all the scoring that Carolina needs. Is it enough to actually win the Super Bowl? If Cam Newton comes back healthy (which is a big if), we've already seen that recipe reach the title game, and McCaffrey is playing infinitely better than any skill position player on that 2015 team. The Saints are a safer bet in the division, but the Panthers have more value.Indianapolis Colts (60-1)Previous odds: 100-1What is the deal with this Colts team? One week, they're getting rocked by the Raiders; the next, they're punking the Chiefs in Arrowhead. The real version of Indy likely lies somewhere in the middle, with injuries swinging the pendulum in any given week. The Colts had Marlon Mack on Sunday, and that's really all that mattered, but Jacoby Brissett has proven competent enough when top target T.Y. Hilton is healthy. Indy's banged-up defense cracked the code Sunday on Mahomes, which is as tough of a test as it'll face all year. This team's price should be more like 40-1, so grab the value ahead of an easier stretch on the schedule.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Redskins next coach odds: Bieniemy, Tomlin among early favorites
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Judgment day has finally come in Washington. The keys to Jay Gruden's office work no longer after the Redskins fired their head coach five weeks into his sixth season in D.C. While the parting of ways felt like the biggest lock of the NFL season, his replacement - once interim Bill Callahan runs his course - is anybody's guess.Given the Redskins' history of losing talented offensive minds - Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and Matt LaFleur all slipped away - and owner Dan Snyder's affinity for splashy moves, expect an offensive-minded hire unless the team lures one of the big fish on the market. The bigger question might be which upstart coordinator or veteran head coach wants to start anew in Washington. Here are the full odds for the Redskins head coach for Week 1 of the 2020 season, with five candidates to keep an eye on:COACHODDSEric Bieniemy7-2Byron Leftwich6-1Mike Pettine6-1Todd Bowles6-1Greg Olson8-1Josh McDaniels10-1Kevin O'Connell12-1Mike Tomlin14-1Joe Judge15-1Dennis Allen18-1Jim Caldwell18-1Mike McCarthy18-1Jim Schwartz20-1Ken Whisenhunt20-1Kris Richard20-1Matt Eberflus20-1Mike Munchak20-1Robert Saleh20-1Dan Campbell25-1Jim Harbaugh25-1Todd Monken25-1Brian Schottenheimer33-1John DeFilippo33-1Dave Toub33-1Chip Kelly50-1Gus Malzahn50-1Kellen Moore50-1Lincoln Riley50-1Ryan Day50-1Todd Haley50-1Jimbo Fisher100-1Lane Kiffin100-1Matt Campbell100-1Matt Rhule100-1Mike Gundy100-1Mike Leach100-1Rex Ryan100-1Tom Herman100-1Sean Payton150-1Brian Kelly200-1Chris Petersen200-1David Shaw00-1Urban Meyer200-1Dabo Swinney250-1Nick Saban250-1Bill Cowher500-1Norv Turner500-1Peyton Manning500-1Tony Romo500-1Eric Bieniemy (7-2)Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Bieniemy is arguably the hottest coaching name on the market thanks to his work with Patrick Mahomes and his relationship to head coach Andy Reid, whose coaching tree branches far and wide in the NFL. Kansas City's last two offensive coordinators - Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy - both have head coaching jobs, and Bieniemy appears to be the next one ready to make the jump. He's one of the top targets for Snyder, according to ESPN's Ed Werder, and he isn't so qualified that he'd scoff at an offer from the Redskins. The value isn't great - betting any coach at shorter than 10-1 in a volatile field is risky - but he's a worthwhile front-runner this early in the race.Kevin O'Connell (12-1)O'Connell doesn't have a lot going for him outside of being young, offensive-minded, and a former quarterback. But in today's NFL, that's enough to lock him up to a long-term deal, especially since Washington can't afford to let the next McVay or Shanahan slip through the cracks again. The 34-year-old has a reputation as a rising star within the organization, which earned him offensive coordinator duties this year under Gruden. He'll get a chance to prove his mettle now that Gruden is no longer calling plays. The incumbent should always get a bump in spots like this, and O'Connell fits the profile of what the team wants if he's up to the task.Mike Tomlin (14-1)Tomlin certainly qualifies as one of the big fish who would divert the team's focus from hiring an upstart. Pittsburgh's head coach would immediately be the best candidate on the market if he chooses to leave the Steelers, who are hurtling toward bottom-five territory with no first-round pick to ease the sting. The 47-year-old is the first target named in Werder's report, and for good reason: he's won at least eight games in all 12 of his seasons as a head coach entering this year. He'd almost certainly be the guy if he wants the job. But does he?Jim Harbaugh (25-1)Harbaugh isn't the best name from the college ranks, but he'll likely be the most flashy one who would conceivably consider this job. The Michigan coach weathered a contentious relationship with the front office in San Francisco and still led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance. He'd also be a short drive from his brother, John. The 55-year-old is a big personality with a penchant for early success at his new stops, both of which could appeal to Snyder. Plus, how brilliant would it be if Harbaugh was forced to rely on Dwayne Haskins, a former Ohio State quarterback, as the franchise savior? This is the hire we should all be rooting for, even if it's probably a wasted ticket at semi-short odds.Kellen Moore (50-1)It's actually surprising to see such long odds on Moore, who, much like Bieniemy, fits the mold of a young offensive mind with future head coach written all over him. He'll also likely have fewer offers on the table post-2019 than Bieniemy will, which could make him an easier catch for the hapless 'Skins.Moore has revitalized the Dallas Cowboys' offense in his first year as coordinator. Is he holding out for Jason Garrett's job? And is he ready for a top gig just two years into his career? Probably not, but he looks like the best long-shot value on a crowded oddsboard.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Trump calls Cousins to congratulate him on beating Giants
President Donald Trump called Kirk Cousins to congratulate the quarterback and his Minnesota Vikings for defeating the New York Giants, a team spokesperson confirmed to CBS Minnesota. The call came with Trump, a native New Yorker, getting ready to host a rally in Minnesota later this week. Cousins won't attend the event.Cousins went 22-for-27 for 306 yards and two touchdowns against the Giants, bouncing back from a slow start to the season that led to a bevy of criticism. He revealed in 2017 that he had played a round of golf with Trump.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc.
