Refs decline to overturn 2 pass interference non-calls in Packers-Eagles
The NFL's new pass interference review rules were in the spotlight Thursday night.During their contest at Lambeau Field, both the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers challenged plays that weren't flagged for pass interference on the field.First, Eagles corner Avonte Maddox appeared to interfere with Packers wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a late first-half play:
Packers' Williams, Eagles' Maddox stretchered off after vicious hits
Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams was stretchered off the field after sustaining a blow to the head on the Packers' first offensive play of Thursday night's contest against the Philadelphia Eagles.Williams was stood up by a handful of tacklers before Eagles defender Derek Barnett came in with a helmet-to-helmet blow. The 24-year-old was ruled out for the remainder of the game but had feeling and movement in all his extremities, the Packers announced.
Ramsey: Trade request 'still stands'
Jalen Ramsey continues to want out of Jacksonville. The star cornerback said on the most recent episode of the Uninterrupted podcast "17 Weeks" that he still wishes to be traded away from the Jaguars."I'm not sure if I've played my final game for the Jags yet or not, but my trade request still stands," Ramsey said. "For me, respect is a huge thing. I kind of touched on it a little bit last week in last week's podcast, but once respect is lost for both parties, I think it's time to part ways."Ramsey made his trade request last week but still suited up in the Jaguars' Thursday night matchup against the Tennessee Titans. The two-time Pro Bowl corner has been away from the team this week. He missed Monday with an illness he described as the flu and has since been excused from the team to attend the birth of his daughter. When Ramsey returns to the field, he said he'll continue to deliver at the level that is expected of him."I'm going to continue being a top corner in this league for years to come," he said. "The money will come, but money isn't everything. Peace and happiness means a lot more than the money."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Brown, Weddle engage in Twitter spat
Antonio Brown continues to ignore his own policy on social media. The troubled wide receiver engaged in a back-and-forth Twitter spat with Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle on Thursday after Weddle responded to New York Giants wideout Golden Tate's tweet questioning the meaning of one of Brown's posts:
Chargers HC: 'No doubt' Gordon will be starting RB when ready
The Los Angeles Chargers won't be holding Melvin Gordon back. The two-time Pro Bowl running back, who rejoined the Chargers this week after holding out since training camp, will vault to the top of the depth chart as soon as he's ready for a starter's workload, Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said Thursday."No doubt. He's our starter and he was our starter for a reason," Lynn said.During Gordon's three-game holdout, the team turned to Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson out of the backfield - a combination that's produced the 13th-best running game in the league with 111.7 yards on the ground per contest."I like the way Austin and J.J. have been working, they've done a heck of a job, they've both proved they can play in this league," Lynn added. "They'll still have a major role in this offense, don't get me wrong. But as soon as Melvin's ready, he'll go back to No. 1."The 26-year-old Gordon hasn't participated in team drills since before July. Nonetheless, there's a chance he could suit up for Sunday's Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins."Never say never, but I doubt he'll play this weekend, but he will practice today and tomorrow and we'll see," Lynn said. This is the final year of Gordon's contract with the Chargers. He needed to report to the team by Nov. 29 to accrue a year of service and reach free agency after the season ends.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: Gordon plans to move on from Chargers in 2020
Despite officially ending his holdout Thursday, Melvin Gordon plans to move on from the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.Gordon is scheduled to hit free agency in 2020 and is likely to seek a contract among the NFL's highest-paid running backs. The 26-year-old continued his holdout into the regular season in hopes of earning at least $13 million per year on a new deal. The Chargers were unwilling to meet his request and granted Gordon permission to seek a trade soon after. The tailback lost out on over $989,000 worth of base salary and will be subjected to $1.2 million worth of fines due to his three-game holdout, according to Schefter. However, he'll still earn $4.62 million of base salary for the rest of the 2019 campaign.Gordon won't suit up for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins but could make his season debut in Week 5 versus the Denver Broncos. The Chargers have relied on the duo of Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson in Gordon's absence. His return will round out one of the league's top backfields.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Barkley avoids ankle surgery
New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur confirmed reports on Thursday that star running back Saquon Barkley won't require surgery to repair his injured ankle."Saquon got his second opinion and I guess it's been determined we just rehab him," Shurmur said, according to the New York Daily News' Pat Leonard. "I don't want to put any timeframe on how long it will take him to come back."Barkley was told by noted specialist Dr. Robert Anderson that he didn't need surgery, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Shurmur added that Barkley will not be placed on injured reserve, which would have held him out for a minimum of eight weeks. The second-year runner, who put up 2,028 yards from scrimmage and 15 touchdowns on his way to Offensive Rookie of the Year honors last season, injured the ankle late in the second half of the Giants' Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He later returned to the sideline with crutches and a walking boot.It was previously reported that the Penn State product was set for a four-to-eight week absence.Third-year pro Wayne Gallman has been tapped to lead the Giants' ground game in the immediate future. Gallman rushed five times for 13 yards after Barkley exited against the Bucs.Gallman and the Giants will look to get another win sans Barkley when the division-rival Washington Redskins go to MetLife Stadium for a Week 4 tilt.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: NFL drops proposal for 18-game season, focused on 17
The NFL has dropped its proposal for an 18-game regular-season schedule in the next collective bargaining agreement and is instead focused on expanding to 17 games, ownership sources told Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic. The new proposal will reportedly also include a reduction of one or two preseason games."Not enough owners support 18 (games) and players would not go for it either," the source told Kaplan.Owners reportedly attached a 16-game limit for individual players to their first plan in order to alleviate fears about the player-safety implications of two extra games. However, NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith rejected the idea soon after it was outlined. While the league dropped a game from its original proposal, it apparently isn't abandoning the possibility of expanding the playoffs by one extra team per conference. The current CBA will expire in 2021.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Gruden: AB's departure caused 'rethinking,' won't blame scoring woes on Carr
The Oakland Raiders have lost two straight games after an impressive Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos, but head coach Jon Gruden isn't pointing fingers at any individual player.Gruden defended his squad Wednesday and discussed the impact of Antonio Brown's release days before the regular season on the team's offense, which has scored just 14 points in its last six quarters of football."It's caused us a little bit of ... rethinking," Gruden said, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "When you lose your starting 'Z,' who arguably is a great player, I don't think anyone's going to dispute that you have to replace him. And we're making an effort to move Tyrell (Williams) around, we're bringing on some younger guys. J.J. Nelson also got hurt, don't forget that. ... Dwayne Harris got hurt, so we've had some multiple things to deal with, and we're dealing with them."The head coach also showed his support for quarterback Derek Carr. After a strong 2019 debut, Carr has averaged 6.1 yards per attempt and tossed as many touchdowns as interceptions (three) over the last two weeks."I think he's done some good things," Gruden said of his signal-caller. "I'm not going to put it all on Derek. We take responsibility as a play-caller. I'm calling the plays and designing some of this stuff, so I put it on myself. He's done a good job."Getting stuffed on fourth and a foot isn't his fault. He didn't miss the blitz pickup in the red zone. We had a ball that could have been caught, could have set up points at the end of the half. He's doing some good things. I'm not going to sit here and say that we're a finished product yet. We've gone through a lot of change through the first three weeks, and we played two really good teams, actually, three really good defenses in back-to-back weeks."Gruden, Carr, and the Raiders will attempt to rebound in their Week 4 road tilt with the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Lamar Jackson: 'I hate running'
Just because you're good at something, doesn't mean you have to like it.Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson, one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL, doubled down this week on comments he made in the offseason about his intention to run less this year."I hate running," Jackson said, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. "Only if I have to, but my job is to get the ball to the receivers. If I have to run, I'll do it, but I'd rather sit back and pass it. I like throwing touchdowns instead of running them."During the offseason, Ravens coach John Harbaugh had told the media to "bet the over" on Jackson's rushing attempts this season - a notion Jackson refuted. And while Jackson still leads all NFL quarterbacks in rushing attempts (27) and rushing yards (172) through three weeks of 2019, the second-year pro has made huge strides in the passing game.So far, Jackson is ninth in passing yards (863), fifth in yards per attempt (8.6), fifth in passer rating (113.9), and second in throws of at least 20 yards (16). He's also tossed seven touchdowns with zero interceptions.Jackson and his top-ranked Ravens offense will look to rebound from a tough loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when the Cleveland Browns come to town for a Week 4 divisional showdown.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. McVay hopeful Gurley can get 25 carries per game
The Los Angeles Rams have insisted Todd Gurley's workload isn't being limited this season, but the star running back continues to see significantly less action in comparison to recent years.Rams head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that he's aiming to get the former Offensive Player of the Year - who has 44 rushing attempts through three weeks - around 25 carries per game moving forward."That's the hope," McVay said, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "If you look back at our Denver (Broncos) game last year, it comes (to) mind when you mention that. There were some different things where what they were doing. He got into a really good rhythm and he ended up having about that many carries and 200-plus yards."You'd like to be able to say that because that means everything is going really well. Each game ends up representing new challenges and different responses from us, based on what we think is the best way to move the ball."Gurley finished fourth in rushing attempts in both 2017 (279) and 2018 (256). The 25-year-old was also a large part of Los Angeles' passing attack in McVay's first two seasons, catching a combined 123 passes. However, Gurley split touches with C.J. Anderson during the Rams' postseason run to the Super Bowl as he dealt with an ongoing knee issue.Anderson left in the offseason but L.A. has continued to siphon off Gurley's work. Former undrafted free agent Malcolm Brown has 20 carries and two short-distance touchdown runs thus far, though his rushing attempts have declined each game."I think it's really, more than anything, the feel of the flow of a game, getting Malcolm involved, too," McVay said. "We love Todd. Todd's been extremely important. He still is and he's going to be as the season progresses."But Malcolm's a guy that we want to get involved as well and we feel like the way that those guys have kind of balanced it out has worked out through the first three games. We just haven't really gotten enough opportunities to get things going."Gurley faces a stiff test in Week 4 in the form of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' sixth-ranked run defense.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Brees: 'I can beat' 6-week recovery timetable
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has spent his entire NFL career defying the odds, and he apparently intends to do so again with his thumb injury.Brees is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks after undergoing surgery, but the future Hall of Famer believes he can return sooner than anticipated."As far as the timetable for getting back, though, they say six-to-eight weeks. I think I can beat that, but I'm just gonna take it one week at a time and see how things go," Brees said Wednesday on WWL Radio. The 40-year-old explained that he opted for a procedure that inserts an internal brace to support the ligament, which will allow him to begin his rehabilitation sooner."It's something that immediately gives it strength and stability. And allows you to start rehab right away," said Brees. "You don't have to be immobilized. You don't have to be in a cast for a couple of weeks. You can start that rehab process right away, and it just fast-tracks the whole thing. It gives you that strength and stability while the ligament actually heals."Brees added that he'll attend New Orleans' second game without him on Sunday, a prime-time matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.Last week, Teddy Bridgewater led the Saints to a 33-27 win over the Seattle Seahawks.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Brady limited in practice again: I'm not 'a spring chicken anymore'
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's calf injury has forced him to be limited in three of the last four practices. At 42 years old, Brady acknowledged he can't overcome injuries the same way he used to."Football is a contact sport. I wouldn't say I'm a spring chicken anymore," Brady said with a smile Wednesday, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. "I'm trying to just feel as great as I can and we'll see how it goes tomorrow. But I feel pretty good."While there isn't any indication Brady will miss game time due to the ailment, New England added a third quarterback on Wednesday when it signed Cody Kessler.Rookie Jarrett Stidham was previously the only other signal-caller on the roster.Brady has been virtually flawless through the first three weeks of his 20th NFL campaign. He's thrown seven touchdowns to zero interceptions and is tied for fourth in the league in yards per attempt (8.6).On Sunday, the 3-0 Patriots will travel to Buffalo to face the also undefeated Bills, who have beaten Brady only twice at home since he became New England's starter in 2001.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Gordon to end holdout Thursday, won't play in Week 4
Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is ending his holdout and intends to report to the team Thursday, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Gordon won't suit up for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, Rapoport adds. The two-time Pro Bowler was apparently targeting a return between Weeks 6-8, but it was reported Wednesday he was considering ending his holdout earlier than initially planned. The Chargers granted Gordon permission to seek a trade after he said he wanted either a satisfactory contract extension or a move away from Los Angeles.Prior to the beginning of the regular season, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said the team was cutting off negotiations with Gordon until after the completion of the campaign.Gordon, 26, has one year left on his current contract and needs to play enough games in 2019 to earn an accrued season toward free agency. The 1-2 Chargers have relied on the duo of Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson in Gordon's absence. The pair has combined for 302 rushing yards and two touchdowns through three weeks, with Ekeler also ranking second on the team with 208 receiving yards.A first-round pick of the Chargers in 2015, Gordon rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns across 12 contests last season.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Thursday Night Football betting preview: Eagles vs. Packers
Thursday night's clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers features a pair of teams heading in opposite directions, albeit a small sample. The Eagles suffered back-to-back losses to move to 1-2 on the season and haven't covered a game. They face a Packers team both 3-0 straight up and against the spread. As Week 4 gets underway, here's everything you need to know from a betting perspective for Eagles-Packers.Line movementWhereas last week's Thursday night game between the Titans and Jaguars saw more movement later in the week, there's been plenty so far. The Packers opened as 3-point favorites but were hit almost immediately, getting up to as high as -5 before coming back down to -4. The total peaked at 47.5 and hit as low as 45 but is essentially cut down the middle at 46.Betting breakdownIt appears the days of Aaron Rodgers having to bail the defense out to register wins are long gone. Green Bay's offense has actually been the struggling unit so far, ranking No. 28 in the NFL in both yards per play (4.8) and yards per game (286.7). On the flip side, the defense is in the top half of the league in yards allowed per game, while not allowing a single opponent to score more than 16 points in a contest so far. Due to that, the Packers haven't gone over the total yet this season, while the Eagles have easily flown over in two of three weeks. The first-half prime-time under streak finally came to an end on Monday night between the Redskins and Bears. Before the Bears raced out to a 28-3 lead by half to ultimately go over the first-half total of 20.5, unders in prime time had been 9-0. Offenses under the bright lights have been slow out of the gates.Important trendsRarely does a team 0-3 ATS match up with a team 3-0 ATS. In fact, it's only happened six times. But the trend in this spot favors the undefeated team, as they're a perfect 6-0 against the number. Additionally, the Eagles are 0-3 ATS in the first half while the Packers are 3-0. The trends point to Green Bay.X-factorEagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor has caught a lot of heat lately for dropping passes. With DeSean Jackson sidelined, the Eagles desperately need a vertical threat to spark big plays. Seeing as the Packers have rarely been tested vertically this season against the Bears, Vikings, and Broncos, Agholor's going to be key in stretching the field. He's also seen the largest target share of any receiver on the team by a mile the last two games, getting 23 passes thrown his way. Quarterback Carson Wentz has had four big-time throws - a Pro Football Focus metric - go for incompletions this season, the most of any quarterback in the league. That means it's time for Agholor to step up and make amends for drops against the Packers' secondary.PickOver 46By the end of the season, I think we'll see the Bears and Vikings finish inside the top five for scoring defense, and Denver's no slouch, either. I don't think Green Bay's offense deserves to be downgraded all that much. It is, of course, somewhat of a new learning curve under first-year head coach Matt LaFleur. Thursday's game provides an opportunity for Green Bay to really get going, especially through the air. The Eagles are third-worst in passing yards allowed per contest and have been handing out 100-yard games to receivers like candy on Halloween. I think both quarterbacks have huge advantages over the secondaries and wouldn't be surprised to see a track meet in Lambeau on Thursday night.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Earl Thomas: Ravens 'got tired' of Browns' hype
The Baltimore Ravens spent the offseason listening to fans and the media fawn over the Cleveland Browns, which apparently didn't sit well with the current AFC North leaders, according to star safety Earl Thomas.Ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Browns, Thomas said Wednesday that the Ravens "got tired" of hearing about the hype surrounding Cleveland after the acquisition of Odell Beckham Jr., among other high-profile moves."The media was talking about OBJ and that tandem and Baker Mayfield, the next savior," Thomas said Wednesday, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. "Then, to add on to that, Coach (Harbaugh) talked about it a couple of times in meetings. So guys kind of got tired about it."Many tabbed the Browns to top the AFC North over the Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers - the two teams that have dominated the division since its inception in 2002 - after the team's strong finish to the 2018 season.Ravens head coach John Harbaugh even called Cleveland "the most talented team in the division" in March. But the Browns have fallen short of expectations so far this season. They sit at 1-2 and the much-hyped offense currently ranks 27th in points per game.Meanwhile, the 2-1 Ravens are in first place in the division thanks in large part to the progression of their own second-year quarterback, Lamar Jackson.Jackson was overshadowed by Mayfield during their rookie season despite leading Baltimore to the playoffs, but his development as a passer has helped the Ravens top the league in scoring through three weeks.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Rosenhaus: Antonio Brown wants to play in the NFL again
Antonio Brown may still have interest in an NFL comeback. The controversial wideout's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, appeared on Warren Sapp's "99 Problems" podcast and said he believes his client wants to make a return to the gridiron."I believe that Antonio wants to continue his career in the NFL," Rosenhaus said. "It's my hope, it's Antonio's hope, that he'll be back playing as soon as possible."Rosenhaus' comments come just days after Brown declared during a Twitter tirade that he won't play in the NFL again due to his canceled agreements with the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots.Brown's agent also said this past Saturday that he's had discussions with multiple teams that have expressed interest in the All-Pro receiver but remain cautious as the NFL investigates multiple allegations against the 31-year-old.Brown is accused of raping his former personal trainer. A second woman has also accused him of making an unwanted sexual advance toward her and sending her intimidating texts after she spoke to Sports Illustrated. The NFL has stated that it would consider placing Brown on the commissioner's exempt list if he signs with a team, depending on the status of its investigation. The Patriots released Brown after just 11 days with the team due to the accusations against him. New England voided his $10 million guaranteed as a result, reportedly prompting Brown to file a grievance against the club.In the meantime, Brown is currently enrolled in several online courses at his alma mater, Central Michigan.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Bears' Nagy: Cohen 'embarrassed' about showing Long nude on IG Live
Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said running back Tarik Cohen regrets filming the team's locker-room celebration on Instagram Live - a move that caught teammate Kyle Long completely nude in front of his locker."I think it's unfortunate that that happened," Nagy told reporters Wednesday, according to Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times. "Tarik feels bad and is apologetic and embarrassed that it happened."I think it's something that you need to do is you learn from it. It was a mistake and nothing that is malicious at all. But it was a mistake so let's make sure that that mistake doesn't happen again to all of our players."The Bears were celebrating their Monday Night Football win over the Washington Redskins when Cohen shared his livestream on Instagram.By broadcasting the locker room, Cohen broke the NFL's policy that prohibits players from posting messages on social media until the completion of postgame interviews. The running back isn't the first notable player to attract controversy with Instagram Live over the last few years. In 2017, Antonio Brown's live feed caught Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin referring to the New England Patriots as "assholes."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Mayfield: Critical Rex Ryan not in NFL anymore 'for a reason'
Baker Mayfield clapped back at former NFL coach Rex Ryan, who called the Cleveland Browns quarterback "overrated as hell" after Week 3."It's whatever," Mayfield said Wednesday, courtesy of Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. "In the wise words of (Browns coach) Freddie Kitchens, 'If you don't wear orange and brown, you don't matter.' And Rex Ryan doesn't have any colors right now for a reason, so it's OK."Ryan delivered a scathing assessment of the former No. 1 overall pick Monday morning, hours after a struggling Mayfield was unable to lead Cleveland to a come-from-behind win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Report: Ramsey unlikely to play Week 4
Jalen Ramsey missed practice on Wednesday due to a back ailment and is unlikely to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter, as the team and player are reportedly in a "stare-down" regarding a potential trade.During Wednesday's presser, head coach Doug Marrone said between laughs that he didn't know when Ramsey began experiencing the back issue. Ramsey didn't practice Monday after telling the Jaguars he was sick.
Broncos' Callahan out at least 4 more weeks after latest foot procedure
The wait continues for one of the Denver Broncos' big offseason acquisitions.Cornerback Bryce Callahan, who signed a three-year, $21-million deal with Denver in the offseason, underwent a non-surgical procedure on his surgically repaired left foot that will sideline him for at least four-to-six more weeks, head coach Vic Fangio told reporters on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Callahan has yet to take the field for his new team. While with the Chicago Bears last year, Callahan missed the final three games of the regular season and then the playoffs after breaking the same foot. The slot corner's recovery was apparently going according to plan until the foot was stepped on during a Broncos practice on July 27, according to Mike Klis of 9News.Callahan, a fifth-year pro, broke out last year by locking down the slot for a dominant Bears defense. He ranked as the ninth-best corner of the campaign and the second-best free-agent corner of this past offseason by Pro Football Focus. For the 2018 season, Callahan allowed a stingy 80.5 passer rating when being thrown at and gave up just 0.69 receiving yards per coverage snap in the slot - tops among all defensive backs who played at least 200 such snaps, according to PFF.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Seahawks trade Vannett to Steelers
The Seattle Seahawks finalized a trade to send tight end Nick Vannett to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a fifth-round draft pick, the team announced.Pittsburgh's starting tight end, Vance McDonald, suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers, according to Dale Lolley of DK Pittsburgh Sports.McDonald's injury left the Steelers with only Xavier Grimble, who had just 21 catches in three years entering this season, and fifth-round rookie Zach Gentry at tight end.In Seattle, Will Dissly has emerged as the team's top tight end. The second-year pro has 12 catches for 124 yards and three touchdowns through three games this campaign.Vannett, a third-round pick in 2016, has recorded 48 catches for 462 yards and four touchdowns during his first four NFL seasons. With Vannett leaving, the Seahawks are expected to sign fellow tight end Luke Willson, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. NFL Power Rankings - Week 4: Every team's biggest disappointment
The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors. In this week's edition, we highlight one player from every team who's failed to meet expectations this season.1. New England Patriots (3-0)Michael Reaves / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 1Sony Michel, RB - Considering New England has yet to trail this season, you'd think Michel would be off to a hot start. However, the second-year back has just 108 yards on 45 rushes (2.4 yards per carry) and no catches. Michel scored twice, but he'll need to up his game when the Patriots' schedule gets tough.2. Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)Previous Rank: 2Frank Clark, DE - Kansas City paid a high price to acquire Clark from the Seahawks, and the early returns (one sack and five total pressures, per Pro Football Focus) are underwhelming. The talented pass-rusher, who had 13 sacks in 2018, needs to get rolling if the Chiefs are to dethrone the Patriots.3. Los Angeles Rams (3-0)Previous Rank: 3Todd Gurley, RB - Sean McVay keeps insisting Gurley's workload isn't being managed due to his knee issue. So if we take the Rams head coach at his word, how can one touchdown and just four catches in three games be considered anything other than a major letdown?4. Green Bay Packers (3-0)Previous Rank: 6Jimmy Graham, TE - The veteran tight end promised more production in his second year with the Packers. He's been an afterthought through three games, however, catching three passes and seeing only seven targets.5. Dallas Cowboys (3-0)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 4Jaylon Smith, LB - Few Cowboys have actually disappointed thus far, but expectations are high after Smith signed a big-money contract this offseason. The talented linebacker has let lesser running backs and tight ends get the better of him in coverage this season.6. Baltimore Ravens (2-1)Previous Rank: 5Hayden Hurst, TE - The former first-round pick hasn't bounced back from his injury-riddled rookie campaign and has been surpassed by Mark Andrews on the depth chart at tight end. Hurst has a touchdown grab but only six catches.7. New Orleans Saints (2-1)Previous Rank: 12Jared Cook, TE - The Saints will continue to search for a first productive receiving tight end since Jimmy Graham. Cook's career year with the Raiders in 2018 hasn't carried over into 2019. On 12 total targets, Cook had two receptions in his first two games and one on Sunday.8. Houston Texans (2-1)Previous Rank: 10Laremy Tunsil, LT - The Texans gave up two first-round picks to acquire the monster left tackle. In three games, he's already taken two penalties and given up two sacks, one sack more than he allowed through 15 games in 2018. The Texans desperately need better play from the entire offensive line.9. Minnesota Vikings (2-1)Previous Rank: 9Garrett Bradbury, C - The first-round pick has struggled mightily in pass protection over his first three NFL games, with PFF holding him responsible for eight quarterback pressures on Kirk Cousins.10. Indianapolis Colts (2-1)Kevork Djansezian / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 13Eric Ebron, TE - Without Andrew Luck, Ebron has come crashing back to earth after his monster 66-catch, 13-touchdown 2018 season. The tight end has seven catches on 11 targets despite the Colts running 28 plays inside the red zone.11. Seattle Seahawks (2-1)Previous Rank: 7Chris Carson, RB - If you remove Russell Wilson's output, the Seahawks would sit 26th in rushing yards per game. Much of their ground-attack struggles come down to Carson, who's averaging 3.5 yards per carry and has lost three fumbles in as many games following a breakout year.12. San Francisco 49ers (3-0)Previous Rank: 16Jason Verrett, CB - The 49ers are undefeated due to solid play on both sides of the ball, so they have few candidates. But San Fran has to be disappointed by Verrett's first performance after a year-and-a-half on the sideline. The cornerback looked rusty and was easily burned on a 39-yard touchdown pass against Pittsburgh.13. Detroit Lions (2-0-1)Previous Rank: 20Kerryon Johnson, RB - The sophomore, who was supposed to reinvigorate the Lions' long-suffering rushing attack, is averaging 2.6 yards per carry. He's now been held below 3.7 yards per rush in six of his last seven games dating back to last season.14. Chicago Bears (2-1)Previous Rank: 15Mitch Trubisky, QB - The third-year pivot is still relying too much on his receivers to do the heavy lifting - his 7.1 intended air yards per pass ranks fifth-lowest among quarterbacks who've played in all three games, per Next Gen Stats - and his overall inconsistencies threaten to hold back Chicago as the season progresses.15. Philadelphia Eagles (1-2)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 8Miles Sanders, RB - Drafted during the second round in April to lead Philadelphia's backfield, Sanders has struggled to the tune of 3.1 yards per carry, no touchdowns, and two fumbles. The Penn State product must improve in order for Doug Pederson's offense to start clicking.16. Buffalo Bills (3-0)Previous Rank: 18Robert Foster, WR - Buffalo signed John Brown and Cole Beasley to ease Josh Allen's load, but its other receivers have yet to step up. While Zay Jones has just five receptions for 65 yards, Foster - the team's second-leading receiver in 2018 - has been the bigger disappointment as he's yet to catch a single pass.17. Los Angeles Chargers (1-2)Previous Rank: 11Travis Benjamin, WR - The Chargers need their other pass-catching weapons to step up after losing tight end Hunter Henry to injury, but Benjamin is struggling to even catch the ball. The wideout had three drops in Sunday's loss to the Texans, including a potential game-tying touchdown.18. Atlanta Falcons (1-2)Previous Rank: 14Devonta Freeman, RB - Freeman's finally healthy but he's far from his former self. The running back is perhaps the biggest letdown on a disappointing Falcons team, averaging 3.7 yards per carry and failing to reach the end zone in all three games.19. Cleveland Browns (1-2)Previous Rank: 17Greg Robinson, LT - Based on the number of times that Baker Mayfield has been forced to run for his life, it appears the Browns incorrectly hypothesized that Robinson's solid showing late last season would carry into 2019. The left tackle was also ejected from the season opener for kicking a Titans defender in the face.20. Carolina Panthers (1-2)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 23Cam Newton, QB - The Panthers could have a quarterback controversy on their hands. Kyle Allen had no problem running the offense in his second career start Sunday, throwing four touchdowns. Newton's struggles may be the result of more than just a foot injury.21. Tennessee Titans (1-2)Previous Rank: 19Marcus Mariota, QB - Three games into his contract year, Mariota has done little to show he deserves a rich new deal with the Titans or anyone else. Though he's thrown four touchdowns against zero interceptions, he's displayed poor pocket presence, taking 17 sacks, including nine against the Jaguars.22. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2)Previous Rank: 26Leonard Fournette, RB - Despite all his offseason talk about being in the best shape and mindset of his life, Fournette's struggles have continued. He's yet to eclipse 100 yards this year, with his highest total being 66 yards rushing (in a game where he had a 69-yard run).23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-2)Previous Rank: 22Matt Gay, K - Stop us if you've heard this one before, but the Buccaneers can't trust their kicker. When a head coach doesn't have faith that his place-kicker can hit a 27-yard field goal, there are serious problems.24. New York Giants (1-2)Previous Rank: 31Deandre Baker, CB - Thrust into a starting role as a first-round rookie, Baker is struggling to find consistency after starring in college. The former Georgia defender has already allowed two touchdowns in pass coverage, and opposing quarterbacks have an almost perfect passer rating when targeting him.25. Pittsburgh Steelers (0-3)Maddie Meyer / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 21Donte Moncrief, WR - It only took two games for the free-agent signing to go from starting wide receiver to healthy scratch. Moncrief had more drops (five) than receptions (three) in those two contests.26. Oakland Raiders (1-2)Previous Rank: 24Clelin Ferrell, DE - The rookie's efforts have been underwhelming thus far, especially considering his surprising fourth overall selection. Ferrell has just one sack and seven total pressures, and he's also missed almost as many tackles (three) as he's made alone (four).27. Arizona Cardinals (0-2-1)Previous Rank: 25D.J. Swearinger, S - Swearinger had a standout year with the Cardinals in 2016 before putting in solid back-to-back campaigns in Washington. But the veteran hasn't looked like himself in his return to the desert, giving up three touchdowns in three games (he allowed just two last season).28. Washington Redskins (0-3)Previous Rank: 27Josh Norman, CB - Seemingly past his prime, Norman might be Washington's third- or fourth-best cornerback at the moment. The veteran has allowed three touchdowns in coverage and quarterbacks are picking on him with ease.29. Denver Broncos (0-3)Previous Rank: 28Garett Bolles, LT - Bolles' penalty issues from his first two NFL seasons (15 in 2017 and 14 in 2018) have bled into this campaign. Instead of improving his discipline, the 2017 first-rounder was flagged five times in three games, leading to a call-out from John Elway.30. Cincinnati Bengals (0-3)Michael Hickey / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 29Joe Mixon, RB - He hasn't gotten any help from his offensive line, but Mixon also hasn't broken many tackles - just five in three games, per PFF - or shown the elusiveness that made him the AFC's leading rusher one year ago.31. New York Jets (0-3)Previous Rank: 30Trumaine Johnson, CB - Johnson is off to another slow start with the Jets, consistently losing one-on-one battles and struggling with injuries. The big-money signing was benched in a loss to the Browns and may be in the midst of his final campaign in New York.32. Miami Dolphins (0-3)Previous Rank: 32Xavien Howard, CB - We're not sure anyone on Miami is playing good football right now, but Howard at least has the talent to do so. The cornerback has struggled mightily in 2019, allowing 73 percent of targets to be caught and surrendering two touchdowns. Quarterbacks have a 140.5 passer rating when throwing to his coverage, and he's been flagged four times.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: Gordon could rejoin Chargers earlier than initially planned
Melvin Gordon could rejoin the Los Angeles Chargers earlier than he initially planned, though he hasn't yet made any final decisions, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The running back was believed to be targeting Weeks 6-8 for his return from a contract-related holdout. The Chargers have gotten by sans Gordon, with the tandem of Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson averaging 5.4 yards per carry through the first three games. Ekeler also ranks second on the team in catches (19), receiving yards (208), and receiving touchdowns (two).Gordon previously received permission to seek a trade, but he evidently hasn't found a team willing to cough up the necessary assets to acquire him and give him the gigantic extension he wants. The Chargers broke off contract negotiations with Gordon right before the season after making no headway over the preceding weeks.Gordon, a Pro Bowler last season, rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns across 12 contests in 2018. He's averaged 4 yards per carry for his career. The former first-round pick is in the fifth and final year of his rookie deal.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: JPP headed for 2020 free agency after inking reworked deal
Jason Pierre-Paul will become a free agent in 2020 after signing a reworked contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports ESPN's Field Yates.Pierre-Paul, who hasn't played this season while recovering from a broken neck sustained in an automobile accident, previously had another year left on his contract. The revised deal reportedly gives the Buccaneers an additional $4.4 million in cap space and gives Pierre-Paul $10 million in pay along with an avenue to the open market in March. Tampa wasn't obligated to pay Pierre-Paul his salary because he's on the non-football injury list, according to Yates. The 30-year-old pass-rusher isn't expected to play until November at the earliest. There are still differing opinions on whether he'll ultimately be able to resume his career, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.Pierre-Paul led the Buccaneers with 12.5 sacks last year, his first in Tampa following a trade from the New York Giants. The two-time Pro Bowler has 70.5 sacks over 127 career games.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Report: Ramsey plans to return to Jaguars' facility Wednesday
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey intends on being at the team facility on Wednesday, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.Ramsey, who has requested a trade away from Jacksonville, reportedly called the Jaguars on Sunday night to inform them he'd be unable to practice Monday due to an illness. The cornerback played in Thursday night's win against the Tennessee Titans despite his trade request. His status remains unclear for the team's upcoming game against the Denver Broncos as it's unknown whether he'll be able to practice this week. While Ramsey wants out of Jacksonville, the team reportedly isn't interested in trading the star cornerback and is attempting to repair its relationship with him.Ramsey said Thursday that his decision to leave stemmed from a "disrespectful" conversation he had with the Jaguars' decision-makers.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Gruden not thinking about job security despite Redskins' 0-3 start
The Washington Redskins are winless through three weeks, and head coach Jay Gruden's seat is getting hotter with every loss. But if Gruden - who's in his sixth season with the team - is concerned about his job security, he isn't letting it show.In the wake of Monday night's blowout loss to the Chicago Bears, Gruden said on Tuesday he doesn't believe he's now coaching for his job every week,"No. I haven't felt like that. But who knows?" Gruden said, according to ESPN's John Keim. "I'm just trying to concentrate on the Giants right now, put our best foot forward, learn from our mistakes here and try to get better. That's all we're trying to do here as a staff and go from there."The Redskins have missed the playoffs in four of Gruden's five seasons at the helm, including the last three years. Washington has failed to record double-digit wins under Gruden, who has posted a 35-47-1 record.Despite the early struggles this season, Gruden said he isn't considering making any changes to his coaching staff."We've played three games against three playoff teams and we haven't played our best ball yet. I anticipate we're going to get better," Gruden said. "We're a pretty young football team on offense, haven't played together a whole lot. They're going to get better. And defensively, I think we've underachieved a little bit, but I still think they're going to come together and we'll make a move here."After Monday's loss, Gruden said he'll continue to start Case Keenum over first-round pick Dwayne Haskins at quarterback, with the veteran under center for Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants despite committing five turnovers against the Bears.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Watson invites local hero to be special guest at Week 4 game
Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson reached out on Monday to local high school student Jayden Payne and invited him to the team's Week 4 contest against the Carolina Panthers, as news of the youngster's heroic act continues to make headlines.Payne faced Tropical Storm Imelda head-on last Thursday when he helped rescue a woman and her daughter out of a submerging vehicle, according to Adam Coleman of the Houston Chronicle. The high school football player was on his way home when he saw the vehicle swerve into a ditch."I hurried up, threw my jacket off, I threw my shirt off," Payne said, according to Coleman. "I ran over there across in front of all the cars. I didn't care if all the cars stopped or not because I was more worried about their safety than my safety."Payne jumped in the water and, with the help of two others, pulled the woman and her young daughter out of the bayou. He then stayed with the two in an effort to make sure they were OK before he departed."She was crying. She said, 'You're my guardian angel,'" Payne said of the mother. "I had to make sure two of God's children didn't die at an early age."The youngster's display of bravery was first shared on social media by his football coaches. Watson saw the news a few days later and showed his appreciation with the invitation to Sunday's game."Jayden - you are a real-life hero!" Watson wrote.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL Week 4 survivor picks
If you've been following this column's advice, you're definitely through to Week 4. If you haven't been following, well, you're still probably onto Week 4. It's been that kind of season so far.The upsets slowly started to pick up last week, with the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers losing as 4.5- to 6.5-point favorites. Unfortunately, those teams knocked out only 37 people in my pool, with over 1,500 still remaining. Hopefully, there was a larger exodus in your pool. The field will whittle down eventually. This is the NFL, after all, and big upsets are inevitable.Until then, let's keep throwing up winners and knocking them out of the park. Onto Week 4...Safest pick: Los Angeles RamsThere are six teams favored by at least a touchdown this tweek, and 11 by four-plus points. In all those games except this one, there's a legitimate case to be made for an outright underdog win. Sorry, but there's a better chance your local supermarket gives out free crab legs than there is of Jameis Winston going into Los Angeles and beating the defending NFC champions."But it looked like Winston found his groove last week," you might be thinking. Sure, against a New York Giants defense that ranks 32nd (that's last, for those counting) defending the pass this season. This week, Winston faces a fourth-ranked Los Angeles Rams pass defense. In two games against top-10 pass defenses last season, Winston threw for just 303 yards, with three interceptions and only one touchdown. Tampa lost those contests by a combined 68-22 score. So what are the Bucs going to do, run the ball? I don't think Sean McVay is sitting poolside right now trying to game plan a way to slow Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones. Tampa's best chance of scoring will come in garbage time.On the other side of the ball, points are rarely an issue for Jared Goff and the Rams' offense. Since the start of last season, Los Angeles is averaging 36 points per game at home (28 on the road).Do we feel comfortable that the Bucs' defense - a unit that could be without linebacker Devin White again - will do enough to keep this game close? This is a team that just allowed 32 points to the Giants, with Daniel Jones making his first career start, and Saquon Barkley missing most of the game. Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram ran through Tampa's secondary last week like they were Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer. Just imagine how Brandin Cooks, Cooper Kupp, and Robert Woods will perform. The Rams are 20-2 under McVay when favored by at least a field goal, and 14-1 when laying a touchdown or more. Winston, meanwhile, is 1-10 as an away dog since the start of last season, with the lone win coming in Week 2 over a Carolina Panthers team that shares only one similarity with the Rams: The two clubs play the same sport.Take the Rams, and I'll see you in Week 5.If you're feeling lucky: Denver BroncosI'm very confident in the Rams this week, yet I'm still itching to take the Denver Broncos. They were incredibly unlucky while losing to the Chicago Bears in their home opener, with Joe Flacco throwing for 292 yards. Now he faces a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that's dealing with plenty of injuries, a laundry list that includes Jalen Ramsey and Myles Jack. Most importantly here, though, is Vic Fangio's defense welcoming rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew to Mile High Stadium.Minshew Mania has taken the NFL by storm, but Denver's defense will present his toughest challenge yet, and he has to beat that unit at altitude with the Broncos desperate.Incredibly, Bradley Chubb and Von Miller are still looking for their first sacks this season, and this feels like a breakout game for them. Fangio will come up with a game plan to make Minshew's life miserable, and with Flacco and the Broncos' offense contributing, the former defensive coordinator finally gets his first win as an NFL head coach.Dustin Bradford / Getty Images Sport / GettyAvoid: Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles ChargersI already picked the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, but if you haven't, this isn't the week because division rivalries can be wildly unpredictable.Since John Harbaugh began coaching the Ravens in 2008, they're 33-3 at home when favored by at least a touchdown. All three of those losses came in divisional games.Additionally, the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore's Week 4 opponent, will be dangerously desperate after starting the season 1-2. In a Week 17 game the Ravens had to win last season to make the playoffs, a less-talented Browns team pushed them to the brink in Baltimore before Cleveland lost 26-24. Starting Browns corners Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams, and safeties Damarious Randall and Morgan Burnett, could return this week after missing the game against the Rams. The Los Angeles Chargers, meanwhile, have looked off this season. They're a coin toss away from an 0-3 start, with injuries and absentees taking a toll. Josh Rosen looked competent under center last week for the Miami Dolphins, and eventually, that team will play with some pride. Are we sure that doesn't happen this weekend against the Chargers, with Miami back home after a pair of heavy losses? The Chargers should win here - I'm not sure they can recover if they don't - but I don't trust them enough at this stage. I'd rather sit back and cheer for the upset. It's only a matter of time before Miami sends 80% of survivor participants packing. I don't intend to be on the wrong side when they do.HOME (SPREAD)AWAYWINNER (SR)LA Rams (-9.5)Tampa BayLAR (8)Denver (-3)JacksonvilleDEN (6)Indianapolis (-7)OaklandIND (6)Buffalo (+7)New EnglandNE (6)LA Chargers (-16)MiamiLAC (6)Detroit (+7)Kansas CityKC (5)Baltimore (-7)ClevelandBAL (5)Green Bay (-5)PhiladelphiaGB (4)Houston (-5)CarolinaHOU (3)Atlanta (-4)TennesseeATL (3)Pittsburgh (-4.5)CincinnatiPIT (3)Arizona (+4.5)SeattleSEA (3)NY Giants (-3)WashingtonWAS (1)New Orleans (+3)DallasDAL (1)Safety rankings (SR) are out of 10, based on author's picksAlex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. Vikings re-sign Laquon Treadwell
The Minnesota Vikings re-signed wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, the former first-round pick they waived at the end of the preseason, the team announced Tuesday.Injury concerns at the position - Chad Beebe was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury - have left the Vikings desperate for depth behind star pass-catchers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.Treadwell, the 23rd overall pick of the 2016 draft, had just 517 yards and one touchdown across his first three seasons with Minnesota. The 24-year-old's inability to get open and his frequent drops made him a lightning rod for criticism in his first stint with the Vikings.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Fantasy: Waiver Wire - Week 4
Every Monday during the season, theScore's Justin Boone runs down the recommended waiver wire pickups.Ownership percentages are based on Yahoo leagues. FAAB bids are set off a $100 budget. Only players owned in less than 60 percent of leagues are considered.QuarterbacksIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyDaniel Jones, GiantsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. WAS16%$3In addition to leading the Giants to their first victory of the season, Jones posted the second-most fantasy points among quarterbacks this week with 336 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, 28 rushing yards, and two rushing scores. He's worth consideration as a Week 4 streamer with a matchup against the Redskins, who gave up nine touchdown passes over the first three games.Matthew Stafford, LionsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. KC51%$1Outside of Jones, quality options are limited at quarterback this week. Stafford has the talent and the weapons to put up big fantasy days when the coaching staff or game script allow him to air it out. The Chiefs are the kind of opponent who can force teams into catch-up mode, and the contest sports one of the highest projected totals of the week at 54 points. If you're not enticed by Stafford, there are a few other passers with decent matchups in Week 4 listed below.Other options: Gardner Minshew at DEN (8% owned), Jacoby Brissett vs. OAK (19% owned), Kyle Allen at HOU (2% owned), Case Keenum at NYG (16% owned)Running backsIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyWayne Gallman Jr., GiantsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. WAS3%$29Saquon Barkley is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a high ankle sprain and reports indicate he's likely to be on the longer end of that timetable. That thrusts Gallman into the starting role in an offense that's suddenly a little more exciting with Jones under center. Head coach Pat Shurmur acknowledged the possibility the team could bring in a veteran to play behind Gallman, and a free agent like C.J. Anderson could be an immediate threat to his temporary status as the starter. For now, the 24-year-old is the No. 1 waiver wire add this week and will be in the low-end RB2 conversation as long as Barkley remains sidelined.Barkley's injury also serves as a reminder that the deeper we get into the season, the more your bench spots should be filled with upside backup runners. We've added several of them to the list at the bottom of this section.Darrel Williams/Darwin Thompson, ChiefsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat DET6%/32%$14/$7While we wait for updates on Damien Williams' knee and LeSean McCoy's ankle, both Darrel Williams and Thompson need to be rostered. With Damien inactive, Darrel (37 snaps) led the backfield in playing time with McCoy (26 snaps) leaving early after reaggravating his injury. Williams compiled 109 yards from scrimmage, but it was McCoy who found the end zone twice in addition to 80 yards of his own. Thompson was a distant third, seeing the field on just five offensive plays. That puts Darrel in line to start if the two veterans are unable to suit up in Week 4. Thompson continues to be a long-term stash.Rex Burkhead, PatriotsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat BUF24%$7Burkhead saw his usage spike with James White ruled out for the birth of his daughter. However, Burkhead has been a consistent producer through three games with at least 68 yards from scrimmage in each outing. Until Sony Michel improves his play - 15 carries for 14 yards in Week 1 and nine carries for 11 yards in Week 3 - Burkhead will be worth owning and potentially starting in the right matchups.Frank Gore, BillsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. NE57%$7Hamstring injuries vary in severity and can often linger, so until we see Devin Singletary on the practice field, we can't confidently project his return. If the rookie is unavailable, Gore will continue on as the starter - a role he turned into 89 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Bengals.Ronald Jones, BuccaneersNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat LAR25%$5The truth is, you should probably just stay away from the Buccaneers' backfield and avoid the inevitable fantasy headache; Peyton Barber is a steady starter with a very low ceiling, so the possibility of someone unseating him always exists. Jones has flashed on a couple of occasions in his sophomore campaign, including 75 rushing yards and 18 receiving yards in Week 1 and most recently 80 rushing yards and 41 receiving yards in Week 3. If that continues, Bruce Arians will have no choice but to give Jones more run.Other options: Justin Jackson vs. MIA (29% owned), Brian Hill vs. TEN (0% owned), Raheem Mostert on bye (53% owned), Malcolm Brown vs. TB (54% owned), Alexander Mattison at CHI (20% owned), Tony Pollard at NO (17% owned), Jaylen Samuels vs. CIN (46% owned), Jamaal Williams vs. PHI (9% owned), Chris Thompson at NYG (44% owned), C.J. We warned that Hardman was the more valuable fantasy asset in last week's waiver wire column, noting his 72-yard catch that didn't make it to the box score due to a penalty. In Week 3, it was Hardman's turn to lead the Chiefs' receiving corps with 97 yards and a score. It's time to get his ownership up to 100% as a borderline WR2 while Tyreek Hill is out.DJ Chark Jr., JaguarsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat DEN41%$29When Chark opened the year with a four-catch, 146-yard, one-touchdown performance, it seemed fluky. Although he recorded only 55 yards in Week 2, he ultimately saved his fantasy owners with a trip to the end zone. After adding another 76 yards and his third touchdown of the year last week, we can safely say Chark has taken his game to another level. The rookie who looked lost at times in 2018 has morphed into a confident sophomore and is using a more technically sound approach to get the best of defenders. Chark is top-10 in fantasy points among receivers in 2019 and needs to be rostered everywhere as an upside WR3.Marquez Valdes-Scantling, PackersNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. PHI54%$14Two tough matchups against the Bears and Vikings caused MVS to stumble out of the blocks in fantasy. He quickly corrected that in Week 3 with six grabs, 99 yards, and a touchdown on a team-high 10 targets. Next up is a Thursday night date with a generous Eagles secondary that's already allowed four receivers to eclipse 100 yards in just three games. Valdes-Scantling's field-stretcher role comes with a lower floor than most fantasy managers would like, but he should be treated as a WR4 with tremendous upside playing with Aaron Rodgers.Phillip Dorsett II, PatriotsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat BUF32%$9Fantasy expectations for Dorsett need to be readjusted with Antonio Brown no longer on the team. In two games without AB, Dorsett has stat lines of 4-95-2 and 6-53-1. Playing in three-receiver sets alongside Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman, Dorsett is a high-ceiling WR4, though you might not want to use him this week against a stingy defense in Buffalo.Nelson Agholor/Mack Hollins, EaglesNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat GB54%/1%$7/$5After missing Week 3, DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery are facing an uphill battle to be ready for Thursday Night Football. Agholor took advantage of their absence, hauling in eight balls for 50 yards and two scores on Sunday. He would be the main beneficiary if one or both wideouts are sidelined again. Hollins, who's the direct backup to D-Jax, has caught nine of his 15 targets for 112 yards over the last two games and is a sneaky flex play in deeper leagues.Other options: Golden Tate returns from suspension Week 5 (37% owned), Courtland Sutton vs. JAX (52% owned), Diontae Johnson vs. CIN (4% owned), Preston Williams vs. LAC (3% owned), Kenny Stills vs. CAR (18% owned), Deebo Samuel on bye (39% owned), Marquise Goodwin on bye (23% owned), Devin Smith at NO (11% owned), Cole Beasley vs. NE (8% owned), James Washington vs. CIN (26% owned), Auden Tate at PIT (0% owned), Parris Campbell vs. OAK (4% owned), Zach Pascal vs. OAK (0% owned), Deon Cain vs. OAK (0% owned), JJ Arcega-Whiteside at GB (5% owned), Darius Slayton vs. WAS (0% owned)Tight endsLindsey Wasson / Getty Images Sport / GettyWill Dissly, SeahawksNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat ARI44%$3Dissly is generating a ton of buzz this week as the perfect storm for fantasy production. The Cardinals have been rocked by opposing tight ends, permitting stat lines of 6-131-1, 8-112-1, and 6-75-2 over the first three weeks of the season. Meanwhile, Dissly has racked up three touchdowns over his last two outings. Don't expect big yardage in a game the Seahawks should control, but another end zone appearance seems likely, putting Dissly in the low-end TE1/streamer mix.Chris Herndon, JetsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. DAL (Week 6)12%$1With the situation at tight end pretty dire, it's time to start thinking about a preemptive bid on Herndon, a breakout candidate serving a four-game suspension. As a rookie, he was a top-seven fantasy tight end over a 10-game stretch from Week 6 to Week 16. The Jets' new coaching staff gushed about him in the offseason and he should produce another strong fantasy finish once he returns from suspension.Other options: Vernon Davis at NYG (20% owned), Trey Burton vs. MIN (42% owned), Noah Fant vs. JAX (11% owned), Dawson Knox vs. NE (0% owned), Jordan Akins vs. CAR (0% owned)Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Newton battling Lisfranc injury, could be out a while
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is dealing with a Lisfranc injury that could sideline him for an extended period of time, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.Newton is reportedly rehabbing with hopes that he'll be able to avoid surgery. The former MVP has already been ruled out for Week 4, and Kyle Allen is set to start for the second straight game when the Panthers face the Houston Texans.Newton sprained his foot in the preseason. He recovered in time for Carolina's opener but then informed the team that he'd aggravated the injury after Week 2.The 30-year-old struggled over the first two weeks, completing just 56.2% of his passes and failing to throw a touchdown while committing one interception.Lisfranc injuries are known to come with relatively lengthy recovery timelines.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Redskins not considering QB change after Keenum's 5-turnover game
Washington Redskins fans chanted for rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins during Monday night's loss, but they'll have to continue to wait for his debut.Following a five-turnover game by Case Keenum in a 31-15 loss to the Chicago Bears, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said he's not considering a quarterback switch."Not really, no. I think the most important thing is we have to have some continuity," Gruden said in his postgame press conference. "I can't be changing people every five minutes. I've got to give Case an ample opportunity to play with these new guys. It's his first time in this offense."Keenum was 30-for-43 for 332 yards and two touchdowns, but he threw three interceptions and lost two fumbles. The Redskins trailed 28-0 with less than a minute remaining before halftime."I feel like Case has the tools to become a very efficient quarterback in this offense and get us some victories moving forward," Gruden added. The 0-3 Redskins' next game comes against the New York Giants, who are starting their own rookie quarterback, Daniel Jones. It would set up a potential matchup of first-round picks, but Gruden has chosen instead to keep the veteran under center."We've got to stick together. That's all we can do," he said.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Bears' Gabriel suffers concussion after catching 3 TDs on MNF
Taylor Gabriel's career night was cut short after the Chicago Bears wideout sustained a concussion in Monday's win over the Washington Redskins.Gabriel caught three first-half touchdowns to set a new career high and had 75 yards before exiting the contest. The speedy receiver snagged two short scores before making an insane toe-tapping grab for his third touchdown just before halftime:
Agholor responds to critical Eagles fan, invites him to next home game

49ers' Shanahan: 'Good chance' Coleman returns in Week 5
The San Francisco 49ers could get their prized offensive offseason addition back in the lineup sooner than later.Tevin Coleman might return for the team's Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns following the Niners' Week 4 bye."I think he's got a good chance to come back next week," head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday. "He was just jogging and moving pretty well last week, just watching him on the side. He won't be out there tomorrow but hopefully, we'll get him in practice here next Monday."Coleman logged just six carries for 23 yards in the club's season opener before leaving with a high ankle sprain. In his absence, the 49ers have gone with a committee approach involving Raheem Mostert, Matt Breida, and Jeff Wilson Jr. Through three games ahead of play Monday night, San Francisco ranks fourth in rushing, averaging 175 yards per game.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Arians: Buccaneers' rookie kicker 'ain't goin' anywhere'
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost on Sunday due to their poor field-goal kicking, but the team won't be making any knee-jerk reactions to the performance of rookie Matt Gay.The 2019 fifth-round pick missed three kicks during a 32-31 loss to the New York Giants, including a would-be game-winning 34-yard attempt as time expired. Nonetheless, he'll remain Tampa Bay's kicker."He ain't goin' anywhere," head coach Bruce Arians said on Monday, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. It's been difficult for the Buccaneers to find a consistent kicker since Martin Gramatica held the position from 1999 to 2004. Over the last 10 years, no Bucs kicker has connected on more than 83% of their kicks, a conversion percentage that Matt Bryant, Connor Barth, and Patrick Murray reached.Asked about the team's cursed kicking game, Arians dismissed the notion."This history shit... this is a new team," he said. "This is our team, a new team. Just go kick. Just go kick."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Monday Night Football betting preview: Bears at Redskins
A year removed from delighting spread bettors, the Chicago Bears enter Monday as shaky road favorites against a Washington Redskins team fresh off losses that were worse than the box scores may suggest.Chicago bettors have had to bear a miserable start from quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, whose 28.2 QBR is the second-worst of any quarterback suiting up this weekend. He could find some daylight against the Redskins' defense, which was torched by Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott in subsequent weeks. Here's everything you need to know about the game from a betting perspective:Line movementThe Bears opened between -5 and -5.5 but were quickly bet down to -4.5 road favorites. Sharp action has pushed the line down to -4 despite nearly 60% of the public taking the Bears as of Sunday, per Sports Insights. The total has ticked down from 42.5 to 41 with a majority of bets on the under.Betting trendsTeams coming off 0-2 starts have been cash cows of late, with a 26-14 record against the spread (65%) since 2014 and 12-4 ATS (75%) the past two years. Of the nine 0-2 teams this year, only the Redskins are getting more than three points at home - a spot that has produced a 7-1 ATS run for 0-2 sides since 2012.The biggest selling point is betting against Trubisky, who's mustered just 348 passing yards with no touchdowns and an interception through a pair of games. Road favorites with fewer than 350 passing yards in their past two games combined are 3-6 ATS, with an 8-1 run to the under. One trend is troubling for Redskins backers, though. Home underdogs of at least four points have lost 13 straight ATS, including two losses by Washington alone. The under has gone 9-4 during that run and 54-25-3 (68.4%) since 2017.The X-factorPlaying the under on a low total may feel like a sucker public play, but it's hard to overstate how bad these offenses could be on Monday. The Bears rank last in the league in Pro Football Focus' offense grades - worse than the lowly Dolphins - with bottom-four grades in run and pass defense. The Redskins' below-average attack is bolstered by a decent run game, though Chicago's stout run defense has been top-five through two weeks.PickThe side looks like a classic stay away. The market has underrated 0-2 teams in recent years, and the Bears are classic fade candidates as fraudulent favorites. That said, Washington is still among the league's least talented teams with a disappointing defense and weapon-light offense. The only play on this game looks to be the under. Even with how poorly the Redskins' defense has been through two weeks, Trubisky would need to take a massive step to triple his team's touchdown total in one game - which is likely what over bettors would need given Washington's one-dimensional attack.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Best player prop bets for Bears-Redskins
Week 3 concludes on Monday when the Washington Redskins host the Chicago Bears. Here are the best individual player props for the prime-time clash.Mitchell Trubisky Over 21.5 completionsTrubisky is under scrutiny for his 348 yards, zero touchdowns, and 65.0 QBR through two weeks, and he hasn't fared well under the bright lights. In six prime-time games, he's posted just 1,002 passing yards, five touchdowns with nine interceptions, and a 63.4 passer rating. That's not good.If Trubisky can't put up a decent stat line against the Redskins, even on the road, it's officially time for the Bears' front office to worry about the team's future under center. The Redskins have allowed 582 yards through the air this season while recording only two sacks. Instead of buying low on Trubisky's total yards, I'd recommend taking his completions instead. He's fourth-worst in completed air yards, so don't expect his yardage total to be anything spectacular. But head coach Matt Nagy should be able to build his quarterback's confidence with some quick passes against a Redskins secondary that can't cover a soul.Case Keenum Over 36.5 pass attemptsGood luck trying to run against the Bears' defense. Following a year when the unit ranked third in rushing yards allowed per attempt (3.7), Chicago has been even better while giving up 3.0 yards through the first two weeks in 2019.The Redskins will surely trail again in this one, forcing Keenum to keep airing it out. He attempted 44 passes during the team's opener against the Eagles and another 37 last week versus the Cowboys.Trey Quinn Over 3.5 receptionsRookie receiver Terry McLaurin has provided a silver lining for Washington during the team's 0-2 start, already recording 10 catches for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He leads Redskins wideouts with 16 targets, though Quinn is only slightly behind at 13.The second-year pass-catcher has hauled in four receptions in back-to-back games, and he seems to be an ideal option for Case Keenum, who's excelled while targeting intermediate routes this season.Adrian Peterson Under 13.5 rushing attemptsThis falls in line with the Keenum prop. The Redskins won't be successful running the ball against a Chicago front that's significantly better than Washington's offensive line in the trenches.Peterson has dominated the Bears in the past, but the circumstances are much different now. The Redskins have also given a large workload to Chris Thompson, and wide receiver Stevie Sims Jr. has even received three carries.Hit the under on this one because of the matchup, and the likely minimal use of Peterson.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Cardinals cut Michael Crabtree
The Arizona Cardinals released veteran wide receiver Michael Crabtree, the team announced Monday. The 32-year-old appeared in two games for Arizona, notching four receptions for 22 yards. Crabtree joined the Cardinals late in the preseason on a one-year deal reportedly worth up to $5.5 million.Crabtree, once one of the league's better possession receivers, topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012 and with the Oakland Raiders in 2016.The former Texas Tech star managed just 607 yards with three touchdowns as a member of the Baltimore Ravens in 2018.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Injury-ravaged Eagles set to lose Darby for multiple games
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby is expected to miss a few games after undergoing an MRI on the hamstring he injured during Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Eagles are already dealing with a rash of injuries.Wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery were among those who missed Week 3, while defensive end Derek Barnett and left tackle Andre Dillard also suffered injuries against the Lions.Philadelphia's secondary is already missing cornerbacks Jalen Mills and Cre'Von LeBlanc. Mills is on the physically unable to perform list and LeBlanc was placed on injured reserve, both due to foot ailments. The Eagles are reportedly among the six teams who've made substantive inquiries about trading for Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey. With Darby out, Rasul Douglas and Avonte Maddox will likely get extended playing time alongside Sidney Jones.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Browns' Kitchens won't concede play-calling duties: 'Not gonna happen'
Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens won't surrender play-calling responsibilities despite his offense's early-season struggles."That's not even feasible," Kitchens told reporters Monday, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. "That's not being considered. No, it's not."The Browns hired Todd Monken, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as their offensive coordinator in the offseason but never planned to have him call plays."Not gonna happen," Kitchens said, according to Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal. "It's me, it's my fault. Todd does a great job during the course of the week ... but when things mess up it's going to be on me."Kitchens finished the 2018 campaign calling plays as the interim offensive coordinator and the results were fruitful. But that hasn't been the case through three games in 2019. The Browns are averaging just 16.3 points per game and have looked particularly sluggish in the red zone, where they scored one touchdown on four trips in Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams.Kitchens' questionable calls Sunday included a fourth-quarter draw for running back Nick Chubb on fourth-and-9. He also drew criticism for failing to get Chubb or Odell Beckham Jr. a touch in the final seconds as Cleveland came up empty on four chances to tie the game from the 4-yard line. The rookie head coach noted the 1-2 Browns are far from a finished product, especially offensively."I understand what's going on with our program," he said. "With a lot of guys, it's learning curve. There's a lot of things new for us right now and I'm included in that. I'm not shying away from our shortcomings, my shortcomings."Cleveland faces the Baltimore Ravens (2-1) on the road in Week 4.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. A.J. Green yet to be cleared from ankle injury, ruled out for Week 4
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced Monday that wide receiver A.J. Green has yet to be cleared from his ankle injury and won't play in the team's Week 4 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN's Ben Baby.Taylor doesn't expect Green to practice this week and declined to provide a timeline for his recovery. The veteran wideout shed his walking boot earlier this month after he underwent surgery to repair torn ankle ligaments in July.Early reports indicated Green could return early in the 2019 season, but both parties have taken a cautious approach with the injury. The seven-time Pro Bowler has struggled to stay on the field in recent years, missing seven games with a toe issue last season and another six due to a hamstring tear in 2016.John Ross and Tyler Boyd will continue to be Cincinnati's primary receivers in Green's absence.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc.
