Report: Patriots' Gordon expects to be healthy, released in 1-2 weeks
New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon expects to be ready to play in one-to-two weeks, sources told ESPN's Josina Anderson.Gordon was placed on injured reserve Wednesday due to a knee injury. New England has to release the pass-catcher once he's cleared after it used the minor designation for his IR placement. If the Patriots part ways with Gordon after Tuesday's trade deadline, the 28-year-old will be subject to waivers.Gordon aggravated his knee injury during a Week 6 win over the New York Giants. He then missed the team's last contest against the New York Jets.In six games this season, Gordon has caught 20 passes for 287 yards and a touchdown.Gordon returned to the Patriots in August after the NFL reinstated him from the third indefinite suspension of his career. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Report: Lions, Titans interested in Dolphins' Drake
Several teams, including the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions, have inquired about Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake, sources told the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. However, no club is yet willing to meet the Dolphins' asking price of at least a fourth-rounder, Jackson adds.Teams have reportedly offered the Dolphins only late-round picks to this point, with one discussing sending a seventh-rounder - which could become a sixth-round selection if certain thresholds are met - for the 25-year-old.Drake never asked for a trade but his agents apparently didn't return Miami's calls when it tried to sign the running back to a contract extension last month, according to Jackson.Mark Walton has recently become more involved in the Dolphins' offense, as he received 14 carries in Miami's Week 7 loss to the Buffalo Bills, while Drake had just six.The Dolphins could lose Drake for nothing this offseason when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Paul Rudd felt 'bad' about reaction to Brady's cameo in Netflix series
Tom Brady raised eyebrows with his cameo in the new Netflix series, "Living With Yourself," after many drew a connection between his spa parlor scene and the solicitation charges filed against New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft earlier this year.Brady told reporters last week the plot was written years ago, and the show's star, Paul Rudd, corroborated that claim during a Wednesday appearance on "The Howard Stern Show.""Even back when he had four rings or maybe even three, the idea that we would have a clone, and it's the best version of ourselves, that they just do everything right, that they're great - Tom Brady is the epitome of that," Rudd said, according to Kevin Slane of Boston.com. "We sent him these scripts like a year-and-a-half ago or something. And I was so touched. He got the joke of making fun of himself and his perfection, and he was like, 'Yeah.'"
Cowboys hoping Prescott will agree to team-friendly extension
The Dallas Cowboys were widely expected to reward Dak Prescott with a big-money extension during the offseason to ensure the quarterback wouldn't need to play out his contract year. But the regular season began with Prescott still unsigned. On Friday, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said the NFC East club remains hopeful that Prescott will agree to a team-friendly deal despite his stellar start to the year."The only thing we need him to do is work with us a little bit, and I understand because it's his money and it's easy for someone else to say, but the only reason we're having a negotiation is to talk him into all the reasons why it's good to have a good supporting cast around him," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "Other than that, it would be really easy to write the check. It's not saving (Cowboys owner) Jerry (Jones) and I any money."What we're trying to do is keep this young football team together. We think it's a really good one. We think it's only going to keep getting better because it is young. Other than that, this negotiation would have been over with months ago. But I think he understands where we're coming from. We understand where he's coming from. Ultimately, we'll figure this out."The 26-year-old has led Dallas to an NFC East-best 4-3 start. Moreover, Prescott appears to have taken a significant step forward under first-year offensive coordinator Kellen Moore's watch.Prescott ranks seventh in passer rating (102.6), third in passing yards (2,123), and first in ESPN's QBR (81.1). He trails only Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins in yards per attempt (8.9).Russell Wilson currently leads all quarterbacks in annual salary at $35 million. However, Dallas may be aiming to avoid resetting the market after handing out huge offseason deals to defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, running back Ezekiel Elliott, and linebacker Jaylon Smith.Further complicating matters for the Cowboys is that wide receiver Amari Cooper, defensive end Robert Quinn, and cornerback Byron Jones are also set to become unrestricted free agents after the season.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Kamara questionable, Cook out again vs. Cardinals
New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara is questionable for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals after missing last week's contest with ankle and knee injuries, according to the team's injury report. While the Saints have a chance to get Kamara - who was limited in the team's last two practices of the week - back for Week 8, the NFC South leaders will be without tight end Jared Cook for a second straight week due to an ankle injury.Quarterback Drew Brees, who could be a game-time decision after missing the last five games with a thumb ailment, was also listed as questionable.Brees is hopeful he can play but head coach Sean Payton said he'll wait until Sunday to decide whether the 40-year-old is ready to retake the reins from Teddy Bridgewater, who's led the Saints to five consecutive wins.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Mahomes ruled out vs. Packers
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been ruled out for Sunday night's game against the Green Bay Packers."He just wasn't ready. He needs a little bit of time here," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher.Mahomes suffered a right knee injury in last Thursday's win over the Denver Broncos. Though he was initially given a three-to-eight week recovery timeline, the reigning league MVP returned to practice this week in an attempt to play in the Week 8 clash.

If you decide to follow any of the picks, please gamble responsibly.Odds courtesy of theScore Bet.Thomas Casale ($1,108)Season record: 5-3-1, +$108Seattle Seahawks (-3.5) at Atlanta FalconsListen, I'm happy to continue fading Dan Quinn for as long as the Falcons allow me to. It's shocking that Quinn is still the head coach after his club dropped its fifth straight, with three of those losses coming by at least two touchdowns. Atlanta doesn't get a break this week, either, as the Seahawks are coming off a home loss to the Baltimore Ravens and will be in a foul mood. To make matters worse, Matt Ryan is dealing with an ankle injury and could miss Sunday's game, forcing veteran Matt Schaub into action. With Atlanta headed into a bye, Quinn is likely coaching his final Falcons game on Sunday. Fade away.Pick: Seahawks -3.5 ($100)Note: Seattle -3.5 was still available at some books as of Friday, while others have the game off the board due to Ryan's uncertain status. The market began moving the number to -7 Friday afternoon. I'd play Seattle up to -7 in this spot, especially if Ryan is out.New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars (-6.5)I'm taking the Jets purely on the number, as I have it closer to -3. There is some recency bias here because the Jets got drilled Monday night by the New England Patriots, but this is the team that beat the Dallas Cowboys just two weeks ago in a game that Sam Darnold shined. Don't overreact to one loss, especially when it comes against a Patriots team that could have an all-time great defense. Jacksonville is overvalued at close to a touchdown favorite, so I'll take the points.Pick: Jets +6.5 ($100)Alex Kolodziej ($1,053)Season record: 8-5, +$53New York Jets at Jacksonville JaguarsTotal: 41.5I don't think the market has properly adjusted to Jacksonville totals this season. The Jaguars relied on their defense to carry a relatively inept offensive unit for years, but they've flipped the script this season. They're No. 3 in explosive run rate and No. 8 in explosive pass rate on offense and in the bottom 10 of both explosive run/pass allowed. There's some bad blood between Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone and the Jets franchise, and he showed his displeasure last season by running up the score and then opting for a two-point conversion in the waning seconds while already up plenty. I think you'll see a fair share of deep shots from the offense. For the Jets, this is a fantastic opportunity to get back on track after Darnold was humiliated by both the Patriots' defense and ESPN mics. I don't think you're going to see him down for long. This total feels a couple points too low.Pick: Over 41.5 ($40)Alex Moretto ($779)Season record: 6-8, -$221New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars (-6.5, 41.5)As far as quarterback performances go, Mitch Trubisky set a low bar in Week 7, and Darnold still wound up under it. Public perception of Darnold and the Jets' offense couldn't be much lower right now, which provides excellent value in this game.Darnold's three starts this season have all come against top-five defenses, so this should feel like a vacation for him against a middling Jaguars unit. Jacksonville has allowed 28 pass plays of at least 20 yards this season (only two teams have allowed more). Look for home run hitter Robby Anderson to stretch the field and connect with Darnold on some big plays. Six points is a drastic overreaction to the Jets' loss to New England and you should take it and run in a game they can easily win outright. Meanwhile, this total feels more appropriate for a Jaguars game in 2017. These teams have too much talent at the skill positions to be limited by a pair of pedestrian defenses.Picks: Jets +6.5 ($60), over 41.5 ($60)C Jackson Cowart ($755)Season record: 6-8-1, -$245Seattle Seahawks (-3.5) at Atlanta FalconsThis line is truly baffling. Atlanta's offense, better in reputation than practice, could be without its starting quarterback. Its defense has allowed more points than any team in the NFL has this season. Oh, and its coach's seat is so hot that it's melting. The Seahawks didn't look sharp last week but are still worlds better than the Falcons. Expect Seattle to rebound against an opponent it can manhandle physically.Pick: Seahawks -3.5 ($100)Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. NFL Draft odds: Is Burrow a better bet than Tua at No. 1?
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. If you check the NFL draft boards this week, you'll notice some eye-catching movement at the top: Tua Tagovailoa is no longer the consensus No. 1 pick. Instead, some members of the draft intelligentsia - namely those at CBS Sports and Pro Football Focus, two major publications for draft coverage - have Joe Burrow atop their mocks amid his breakout campaign at LSU.Tagovailoa lost his grip on the first pick in past weeks when some slipped Justin Herbert into the top spot, but those felt more like trial runs than a real shift. But with Burrow's incredible play as of late, this seems like a reaction to the season more than off-hand speculation. Is Burrow an early value play for the top pick? What about Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young? Does Tagovailoa still offer value up top? Here are the updated odds for who will go No. 1 in the 2020 NFL Draft with a breakdown of the top contenders:PLAYERODDSTua Tagovailoa2-3Joe Burrow2-1Justin Herbert6-1Jake Fromm6-1Chase Young14-1Jerry Jeudy33-1Jacob Eason50-1Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama (2-3)Tagovailoa entered this year as the odds-on favorite to go No. 1 and has been nothing short of sensational through seven games. He's thrown for 2,166 yards and 27 touchdowns to lead No. 1 ranked Alabama to a perfect 7-0 start. He's still the favorite now, though his price has lengthened from what you had to pay in the summer. The signal-caller is expected to miss some time with a high ankle sprain, so his odds may become more favorable as other quarterbacks continue to shine. Take advantage. This isn't a fantasy league in which two weeks on the bench can dramatically swing a player's value. NFL teams have considered Tagovailoa a special talent for years now, and it would take something drastic - not just a minor injury or gaudy numbers from Burrow - to change that. At short odds, he's a slam dunk.Joe Burrow, QB, LSU (2-1)Burrow has been magnificent in coordinator Joe Brady's attack, as he leads the nation in completion percentage (79.4%) and is tied for the lead in touchdowns (29). College stats only go so far, though, and it's at least mildly concerning that Burrow was mostly off the radar before starring in Brady's offense.Quarterbacks can go from second-day choices to No. 1 picks; it's happened in each of the last two drafts. But neither of those classes had a QB prospect like Tagovailoa, and it took strong combine efforts and interviews to vault those players to the top. Betting Burrow is too speculative - and risky - to lay short odds. Pass for now.Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon (6-1)Before Burrow, Herbert was the guy who draftniks wanted to pit against Tagovailoa. And he's still got a shot at the top. He hasn't put up the type of numbers that scream "No. 1 pick" in Oregon's run-first offense, but he didn't last year, either, when many said he'd be a top-five selection should he come out as a junior.Instead, Herbert is the classic "toolsy" quarterback. At 6-foot-6, he's mobile with an impressive arm and a knack for fitting the ball into tight windows. The NFL is still enamored with on-paper fits at the quarterback position, and Herbert is this year's quintessential version of that. These odds feel a bit short, but it could be worth getting ahead of the inevitable draft rise.Chase Young, DE, Ohio State (14-1)This is the sharp play on the board, as Young is widely considered the best non-QB in this class and one of the most dominant pass-rushers in years. If teams opt against taking a signal-caller at the top, it's usually for an edge rusher or a left tackle, so Young is a savvy play for bettors expecting a QB-confident team to earn the No. 1 pick. There are two problems with that: the two worst teams in the NFL both need a quarterback, and other teams would be wise to trade the No. 1 pick to a team that does. Still, if the Falcons or Jets keep losing, Young would look a lot more appealing than 14-1.Jacob Eason, QB, Washington (50-1)The best value on the board - outside of Tagovailoa - might be Eason, who looked superb against Oregon and has shown flashes of brilliance in his winding college career. He signed with Georgia as the nation's No. 5 player and top-ranked pro-style QB in 2016, so he has the pedigree and natural arm talent to turn heads with a strong pro day and interviews. Is he better than Tagovailoa, Burrow, or former teammate Jake Fromm, who took his job in Athens? Probably not. But we're talking 50-1 odds here, and there's better than a 50-1 chance that Eason wows somebody in the Bengals' or Dolphins' front office and shocks the draft community in April.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Scandrick blasts Eagles after release: They're 'living in the past'
The Philadelphia Eagles released cornerback Orlando Scandrick on Monday after just three games. On Friday, the veteran put the entire Eagles franchise on blast.Scandrick told Fox Sports' "Undisputed" he felt scapegoated upon his release from Philadelphia. The 32-year-old said the team "has accountability issues and it starts from the top," adding he doesn't believe "anything" Eagles general manager Howie Roseman says."The problem in Philadelphia is much, much deeper than me," said Scandrick, who spent 10 years with the Dallas Cowboys before joining the Kansas City Chiefs last season and then the Eagles in late September. " ... I think they're having a tough time dealing with success."Scandrick weighed in on reports of dissension in the Eagles locker room, including tackle Lane Johnson's admission after Sunday's loss to the Cowboys that players are often late to meetings and practice."Let's just say where there's smoke, there's fire," Scandrick said. " ... That locker room is different. I would tell guys when I came there, I still feel like they're living on that Super Bowl high. It's over. You're living in the past. But some of those guys came into the league and the first thing they experienced was 13-3 and a Super Bowl and they think that's what it's all about."Though Scandrick was complimentary of Philadelphia quarterback Carson Wentz, he said some Eagles players would prefer to be led by Super Bowl LII hero Nick Foles."Nick Foles is not walking through that door. At all. Are there some people in that locker room that still would probably want Nick? Yeah. But that's not a knock against Carson. It's just everything that Nick has achieved. ..." Scandrick said."I love Carson ... I'm gonna compare him to (Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott). I spent enough time with both of them. Dak, natural-born (leader). First one in the building. Last one out. Doing extra things. Carson, if you go back to earlier in the season, they dropped a few passes and now they want to stay after practice and catch some extra passes."That's adversity, right? How do you handle success? When you rip off a few games, is everybody just get in at 7:15 and leave at 6:14? I think they're dealing with that right now. That success is really, really hurting them right now."After Scandrick criticized Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins' play and leadership, Jenkins responded to his former teammate's words on Friday afternoon:
Ryan questionable vs. Seahawks with ankle sprain
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is considered questionable to play in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Dan Quinn said Friday, according to team writer Kelsey Conway.Ryan suffered a sprained ankle in last Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams, though he was able to return to practice Friday.
Keenum suffers concussion vs. Vikings, Haskins finishes game at QB
Washington Redskins quarterback Case Keenum suffered a concussion in the second quarter against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.Keenum appeared to injure himself on a sack late in the first half when he was taken down by Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph.First-round rookie Dwayne Haskins replaced Keenum at quarterback to begin the second half, making his second appearance of the season. The rookie finished 3 of 5 for 33 yards with one interception and two sacks.Haskins' NFL debut came after Keenum was benched in Washington's Week 4 loss to the New York Giants. He also struggled in that appearance, throwing three interceptions and taking two sacks. The Redskins turned to Colt McCoy as their starter in Week 5 instead of giving Haskins his first career start. Head coach Jay Gruden was fired the following day.Following the loss Thursday night, interim head coach Bill Callahan said Keenum would remain the team's starter next week if healthy, according to Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Peterson moves past Bettis, Tomlinson into 6th on all-time rushing list
Adrian Peterson continues to defy Father Time.In his return to Minnesota on Thursday night, the Washington Redskins running back jumped Jerome Bettis and LaDainian Tomlinson to move into sixth place on the all-time rushing yards list.Peterson passed Bettis (13,662) and Tomlinson (13,648) with a bruising third-quarter run that was reminiscent of his dominant days with the Vikings:
Patriots trade Bennett to Cowboys
The New England Patriots traded defensive end Michael Bennett to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, according to David Helman of DallasCowboys.com.Dallas sent New England a 2021 seventh-round pick for Bennett, which could become a sixth-rounder, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jordan Schultz. The 33-year-old is set to undergo a physical Friday to make the move official, according to Helman.Bennett was recently suspended by New England for one game after he reportedly voiced his unhappiness with a reduced role. He later said he'd had a "philosophical disagreement" with his position coach. The three-time Pro Bowler joins a defensive line that already boasts DeMarcus Lawrence and Robert Quinn.Bennett has been one of the league's most consistent pass-rushers over the past seven seasons. The defensive end was a key part of the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl-winning team in the 2013 season. He racked up 39 sacks in five seasons with the NFC West club.Bennett's move to Dallas is his third trade in the last year and a half. Seattle shipped him to the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2018, and the Eagles traded him to the Patriots in March of this year.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Slay still angry about Diggs trade, doesn't care if he stays with Lions
Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay continued to voice his frustrations Thursday after the Quandre Diggs trade.Shortly after Tuesday's surprising move by Detroit, Slay was transparent about his anger in a series of tweets.Asked if he was still agitated over losing Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks, Slay responded, "Hell yeah," according to MLive's Kyle Meinke. The two-time Pro Bowler then refused to say he wanted to remain in Detroit ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, saying he "wouldn't personally care" if he was traded."I'm here to play ball," Slay said. "It don't matter if I'm here or not. That's what I want to do, I just want to play ball."Slay went on to criticize the Lions and the NFL as a whole for the lack of loyalty to players."At the end of day, I just see it as there's no loyalty to nothing," Slay said. "No matter how much you put in, they feel like it's a little different, they can get rid of you. So I just play ball."Slay has been one of the Lions' best defensive players since being taken in the second round of the 2013 draft. Lincoln Riley: Oklahoma not a stepping stone for NFL job
It doesn't appear Lincoln Riley is eyeing a move to the NFL anytime soon.Appearing on the "Dan Patrick Show" on Thursday, Riley claimed that leaving Oklahoma for an NFL head coaching job isn't currently a goal of his and he doesn't see major differences between pro and collegiate positions."I just think so many people think of (college) just as a player would," Riley said. "A player wants to do well in high school and then go do well in college, and then the next step is the NFL. They see it as a stepping stone deal ... and that is true for players. For coaches, it's not."College and the NFL are similar in a lot of ways, and I don't know if you could sit here and say one is better than the other. I think it comes down to the individual person."Riley would be one of the hottest commodities in the NFL coaching market due to his success with the Sooners. The offensive-minded boss boasts a 31-4 record with two consecutive College Football Playoff appearances.Though a number of successful college coaches have tried their luck in the pros, such as Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier, Riley appears content at Oklahoma for the time being."I think the college game is at such a good place right now," he said. "It's second to none, and I'm fortunate enough to be at one of the best places there is anywhere."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: Jets shopping Robby Anderson ahead of trade deadline
The New York Jets are telling teams that wide receiver Robby Anderson is on the trade block for the right price as they attempt to acquire 2020 draft capital, sources told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.New York entertained dealing Anderson prior to last year's trade deadline, Mehta adds. The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly expressed interest in the speedy wideout at the time, but the Jets chose not to trade him.Anderson is currently making $3.1 million on his restricted free-agent tender. He's scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.A productive deep threat, Anderson led the Jets in receiving yards during each of the past two campaigns and paced the team with 50 receptions in 2018. He's accumulated 17 catches for 266 yards and one touchdown through the first six games of this season. The NFL's trade deadline is set for Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. ET.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Chicago Bears held a players-only meeting Wednesday as they look to snap out of a two-game losing streak."We're just looking forward to getting better," said linebacker Danny Trevathan, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Patrick Finley. "Anything that was brought to the table was things we thought of that we know can help our team."The Bears have disappointed with a record of 3-3 this season after winning the NFC North and making the playoffs a year ago. They opened the schedule with three wins in four games, but they have since suffered losses at the hands of the Oakland Raiders and shorthanded New Orleans Saints."This is football. This is Chicago football," added Trevathan. "This is what we signed up for. Guys know that everybody can get a little bit better. Sanders happy with trade to 49ers: 'I needed a change of scenery'
Wideout Emmanuel Sanders says a trade from the 2-5 Denver Broncos to the 6-0 San Francisco 49ers this week was exactly what he needed to reinvigorate his passion for the game."It feels good to be here," Sanders said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "Obviously, I've got a lot of love for the Broncos. I spent six years there, won a Super Bowl there and I love that organization. But to be a 49er, it's like a new energy and new environment. It reminds me of when I left the (Pittsburgh) Steelers and went to the Broncos."On Tuesday, Denver traded Sanders along with a fifth-round pick to the 49ers in exchange for third- and fourth-round selections."I needed a change of scenery, and it feels good to have a change of scenery," Sanders continued. "And what a great locker room the 49ers have here. I'm just trying to come in and bring even more positive energy and bring another spark to this offense."Sanders said a conversation he had with Broncos president and general manager John Elway after Week 6 is what resulted in both sides agreeing it was the right time to part ways."I think we both decided that it was best for me to go," Sanders said. "You know, we got two more years left - or three more years left - of playing football, and I'm trying to win a championship, and obviously, we've got a young locker room over there (in Denver)."Sanders, who's put up 367 yards and a pair of scores on 30 grabs this season, is expected to play against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8 and will look to boost San Francisco's 25th-ranked passing attack.Making the transition easier, Sanders says 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's offensive scheme is 90% the same as the one offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello - who previously worked under Shanahan for two years - is using in Denver. For his part, Shanahan's excited to have Sanders in the fold."Emmanuel has been a guy that I have personally wanted since probably the last eight years, since he became a free agent in Pittsburgh," the head coach said. "I was a huge fan of him coming out in the draft and everything he's done since. ... I'm pumped he's here."Sanders, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, said happiness and winning will be his top priorities when deciding where to go.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. 5 realistic deals we want to see before the NFL trade deadline
NFL teams have already been quite busy on the trade market this season, and the Oct. 29 deadline provides one last opportunity for contenders to load up for a playoff push. Lucky for them, there's no shortage of clubs positioned to unload talent as they look to the future. Here are five realistic trade scenarios we'd like to see before 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday:Redskins finally cut cord on WilliamsIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyBrowns receiveRedskins receiveLT Trent Williams1st-round pick3rd-round pickIt's no secret the Browns want Redskins holdout Trent Williams. Browns general manager John Dorsey publicly acknowledged trade talks last week, but said nothing has materialized because "it takes two to tango." Indeed, Williams would probably already be in Cleveland protecting Baker Mayfield's blind side if not for Washington's stubborn refusal to move him. It's a potentially self-defeating stance for the Redskins, as Williams reportedly has no intention of reporting to the team due to dissatisfaction with his medical care, salary, or both, depending on whom you believe. At least one prominent NFL insider shot down an August rumor that Washington rebuffed the offer of a first-round pick from the Patriots, but it's safe to assume the Redskins have set a hefty price for their seven-time Pro Bowler. The Browns can afford to meet it. More importantly, they can't afford to allow their franchise quarterback's development to stall behind a subpar offensive line. - David P. WoodsEagles address major weakness with HarrisIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyEagles receiveBroncos receiveCB Chris Harris Jr.CB Sidney Jones3rd-round pickThe Eagles may only be one game back of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East, but their season hinges on the next three games. If Doug Pederson's squad is to have any shot at the postseason, the secondary must improve significantly. A four-time Pro Bowler and veteran presence who thrives in the slot and out wide, Chris Harris Jr. represents an ideal trade target after Philadelphia missed out on Jalen Ramsey. Opposing receivers torch Sidney Jones, Ronald Darby, and Rasul Douglas on a weekly basis, and the Eagles field the league's 27th-ranked pass defense as a result. Harris' insertion into the lineup alongside a healthy Jalen Mills and Avonte Maddox would, at least on paper, improve one of the NFL's weakest units. The Broncos, meanwhile, announced themselves as deadline sellers by trading Emmanuel Sanders to the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday. Though Harris is a pending free agent, John Elway will likely demand a high return for him, and a mid-round pick along with a young defender fits the bill. Jones has struggled mightily when healthy - which admittedly isn't often - but a change of scenery could help him turn his career around. He was, after all, a highly touted prospect in the 2017 draft. Jones is out of chances in Philadelphia and is the perfect reclamation project for Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. - Mike AlessandriniSeahawks get Hooper to replace DisslyKevin C. Cox / Getty Images Sport / GettySeahawks receiveFalcons receiveTE Austin Hooper2nd-round pick4th-round pickWith two second-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Seahawks have the ammunition to pluck Austin Hooper out of Atlanta. The Falcons won't want to give up Hooper, but they'll do it for the right price. Speaking of price, the Dirty Birds know they'll have to open their wallets to retain Hooper in free agency; after acquiring a second-round pick from the Patriots in exchange for Mohamed Sanu, Atlanta may prefer adding a third second-rounder over handing out yet another big contract.Hooper makes a ton of sense for Seattle. He provides the big, athletic target Russell Wilson is missing after Will Dissly landed on injured reserve with an Achilles injury, and he blocks well enough to aid the power running game. In a tight NFC, Hooper could be the difference between a playoff run and an earlier-than-expected finish for the Seahawks. The Rams aren't the only west coast team that should be looking to make all-in moves this season. - Alex ChippinPackers bolster shaky WR corps with GreenLogan Bowles / Getty Images Sport / GettyPackers receive Bengals receiveA.J. Green2nd-round pick5th-round pick3rd-round pickThe Bengals say they won't, but they'd be wise to deal star wideout A.J. Green before the deadline due to his expiring deal and recent injury history. The team is clearly in the midst of a rebuild; stubbornly holding on to its most valuable trade asset will only hurt Cincinnati in the long run, and there's arguably no team in more dire need of help out wide than the Packers. Bona fide No. 1 receiver Davante Adams is battling a turf toe injury, and a supporting cast of mostly undrafted pass-catchers is predictably not exceeding expectations in his absence.Green, 31, has yet to play in 2019 after undergoing offseason ankle surgery. But once he and Adams return to full health, the Cheeseheads would boast one of the best wideout duos in the league. Surely Green Bay can afford to give up a couple of significant draft picks to get the perennial Pro Bowler. If Aaron Rodgers can put up 429 yards and five touchdown passes throwing to the likes of Jake Kumerow and Allen Lazard, just imagine what he could do with Green and Adams. Boasting arguably the best defense with which Rodgers has ever played, this Packers team is definitely in win-now mode. - Alex MurrayRavens take a chance on BeasleyJoe Robbins / Getty Images Sport / GettyRavens receiveFalcons receiveVic Beasley5th-round pickThe Ravens have emerged as legitimate Super Bowl contenders at the midway point of the season, but that's more a product of Lamar Jackson and a suddenly potent offense than of the defensive dominance we've come to expect in Baltimore. The defense, in fact, has quietly been a major problem. Most alarming is the plethora of explosive plays allowed through the air despite an abundance of talent in the secondary.Baltimore's recent trade for Marcus Peters makes a stacked secondary even better, but not even the best defensive backs can cover forever. The main issues start up front, with a pass rush that's mustered a mere 12 sacks on the season. Vic Beasley isn't the most exciting option to address that problem, but premier pass-rushers rarely become available and his impending free agency should yield an affordable price tag. It's not as though the former first-round pick is completely devoid of upside, either. Perhaps joining a Ravens defense with the cover talent to force quarterbacks to hang on to the ball for an extra second or two will unlock something resembling the 15.5-sack production we saw from Beasley in 2016. - Dan WilkinsCopyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Gordon likely done with Pats, could return this season with new team
Josh Gordon's time with the New England Patriots is reportedly over due to a knee injury, but his season might not be done just yet.The Patriots announced Wednesday they've placed the wide receiver on injured reserve. But the 28-year-old's ailment is considered minor and he expects to be cleared soon, a source told MMQB's Albert Breer.Either way, New England is moving on from Gordon and will likely waive the pass-catcher from IR when he's fully healthy, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.ESPN's Field Yates initially reported Gordon wouldn't return this season, but later added it's possible he could land with another team once he's recovered from his knee issue.
Pats' Bennett addresses suspension: 'It's America. You can voice your opinion'
After rejoining the New England Patriots on Wednesday, defensive end Michael Bennett addressed the disagreement with his positional coach that led to a one-game team suspension."It's America. You can voice your opinion about how you feel about certain situations," said Bennett, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. "That's what I did."Asked what he took away from his weeklong ban, Bennett said, "I didn't take away nothing. I got suspended. Lost money. What am I supposed to take away from that? There's no love lost. It's just how it is."Bennett previously said he and defensive line coach Bret Bielema had a "philosophical disagreement."The argument reportedly centered around Bennett's unhappiness with his reduced role after he played a season-low 11 snaps in New England's Week 6 win over the New York Giants. The Patriots' marquee offseason acquisition played 39 snaps in Week 1 but has seen his workload steadily reduced since. He wouldn't speculate on his future in New England ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline."It is what it is, man," the 33-year-old said when asked if he's happy in New England. "It's up to the team (about the possibility of being traded), how they feel about it. I like playing here."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Gruden: Jacobs questionable vs. Texans with 'legitimate' shoulder injury
Oakland Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans due to a shoulder injury, head coach Jon Gruden said Wednesday, according to Scott Bair of NC Sports Bay Area."He’s got a legitimate shoulder (injury)," said Gruden. "He got hurt in the Green Bay (Packers) game, had it shot up. He's still very sore and we'll list him as questionable for the game."Jacobs sat out Wednesday's practice because of the ailment. The first-round pick has racked up 554 rushing yards (which ranks eighth in the league) and two touchdowns in his first six career games. If Jacobs can't play, Oakland will rely on the tandem of DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Payton: Brees could be game-time decision vs. Cardinals
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that he may wait until Sunday to determine whether Drew Brees will return against the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss.Brees has missed the last five games with a thumb injury.Shortly after Payton's comments, Brees echoed his optimism from Monday when asked if he intends to play in Week 8."That's the plan," answered Brees, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche. The 40-year-old underwent thumb surgery in September. He was initially given a return timetable of four-to-six weeks. Sunday's game will be the five-week mark. The Saints have a bye after playing the Cardinals, so they could opt to give Brees an additional week of rest.Teddy Bridgewater has won all five of his starts in the future Hall of Famer's absence.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jets' Osemele independently schedules surgery, continues incurring fines
Shoulder-gate continues for the New York Jets and guard Kelechi Osemele. The Jets offensive lineman will undergo shoulder surgery Friday after getting a third opinion recommending the procedure as necessary, Osemele told reporters Wednesday, including SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. The eight-year veteran added that general manager Joe Douglas is "upset" with his choice to undergo surgery. Osemele has the support of his teammates, who told him what the Jets are doing is "bullshit," per The Athletic's Connor Hughes.
Mahomes returns to practice, not ruled out for SNF vs. Packers
Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was scheduled to throw the ball and participate in individual drills at practice Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid told reporters, including The Athletic's Nate Taylor. While Reid said Monday that it would be "a stretch" for Mahomes to play in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers, he didn't rule out the reigning NFL MVP on Wednesday, according to Chiefs reporter BJ Kissel.
Eagles' Cox grabbed shotgun to foil recent break-in attempt
Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox sprung into action last week when a man attempted to break into his New Jersey residence, according to a complaint obtained by ESPN's Tim McManus. The suspect is said to have caused more than $2,000 in damages before getting spooked and fleeing the scene after Cox grabbed a shotgun. The man was reportedly seen on surveillance cameras brandishing a baseball bat. He's also said to have thrown rocks through the windows of a vehicle on the property before attempting to enter the residence multiple times. The man was identified in the complaint as an ex-boyfriend of a woman who was staying with Cox. The suspect was later apprehended by local authorities.Cox was absent from practice with an illness on the same date as the alleged incident, though head coach Doug Pederson said the two events were unrelated."The police are handling it," Pederson said. "It's a personal issue, so I'm out of it."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Report: Browns could target Solder if Redskins won't move Williams
The Cleveland Browns could push to acquire Nate Solder from the New York Giants if their efforts to land Trent Williams from the Washington Redskins go unrewarded, reports Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson. The Browns have reportedly been focused for several weeks on upgrading from Greg Robinson at left tackle. They've been heavily linked to Williams, a season-long holdout, but general manager John Dorsey hinted last week that the Redskins were unwilling to move the Pro Bowl left tackle.Solder hasn't lived up to expectations since signing a four-year, $62-million contract with the Giants in 2018, though he'd still likely represent an improvement over Robinson.Dorsey and Giants general manager Dave Gettleman are known to have a strong working relationship, which could make a deal more feasible by the Oct. 29 trade deadline. Gettleman traded Odell Beckham Jr. to Dorsey's Browns in the offseason.Solder, 31, played seven seasons and won a pair of Super Bowls with the New England Patriots before joining the Giants via free agency.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Mayfield resumes beef with refs: 'Everybody's talking about it'
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield had more harsh words for officials Wednesday when he responded to his fine for criticizing referees."People have to be held accountable for their job," he told reporters. "When it affects my job, it sucks, because it's not in my control."Mayfield was penalized $12,500 for calling the officials "pretty bad" after the Browns lost to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6. There were multiple significant calls in the game that annoyed Mayfield, including a questionable blindside block flag on Jarvis Landry that killed a third-quarter drive."I wouldn't say it's complaining when it was blatantly obvious," he said. "I'd say that's just stating facts. Freedom of speech, I thought. But I get fined for it, that's the league, that's what they do, they fine you for some ridiculous things."There's a reason everybody's talking about it - it's not just me, it goes for every team. With how our team is, we're not gonna get a lot of calls and we know that, especially going into this week. There's no time to worry about it, no time to stress about it, just play our game."The Browns lead the NFL in both accepted penalties and accepted penalty yardage per game. They're gearing up to face a New England Patriots squad that draws the seventh-fewest penalties per game.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Thursday Night Football betting preview: Redskins vs. Vikings
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Week 8 kicks off Thursday when the Washington Redskins travel to take on the Minnesota Vikings. Here's everything you need to know about the NFC clash from a betting perspective.Line movementIt's been all Minnesota money so far. The Vikings opened -14 but ticked all the way up to -16, which is where the line sits as of Wednesday. Wide receiver Adam Thielen is dealing with an injury that cut his afternoon short Sunday - and has since been ruled out of Thursday's matchup - which caused the line to drop to -15 for a short period earlier this week. Nonetheless, the Vikings should close as two-touchdown-plus favorites at home on a short week. There's also been some over money, as the total has risen from the opening number of 40 to 42, with the Redskins getting a boost from playing indoors in much friendlier weather conditions than they dealt with against the San Francisco 49ers.Betting breakdownThe Vikings are playing with a serious chip on their shoulder as they find themselves likely at the peak of their market price. Minnesota has averaged a whopping 7.2 yards per play over its last three games, which brings it to No. 3 in the league in that department. Meanwhile, a unit that didn't mind playing conservatively last season has flipped the switch: the Vikings have the league's most explosive offense, as it leads in both explosive run and pass rate. While the defense remains stout, perhaps some of these lower totals will stick around for another week or two.Washington's defense looks to be finding its groove, though it's important to acknowledge the strength of schedule and other influencing factors. So, while the Redskins have allowed only 16 points over the last two weeks, those games were against the Miami Dolphins and in a torrential downpour Sunday against a run-heavy 49ers team. There's very little upside with this team right now as it goes through some coaching turnover and deals with injuries on the offensive side of the ball.Important trends Minnesota has been a tough place to play in. Though home-field advantage hasn't meant much this season (road teams are covering at an alarming rate), the Vikings are on a 20-6 run against the spread on their home turf. The under has been a good play in this spot, too, as Minnesota is on an 8-0 run on the total when it's a favorite of 10 or more at home.X-FactorRedskins quarterback Case Keenum will be back in Minnesota just two seasons removed from leading the franchise to the NFC Championship Game. It's been tough sledding since that postseason run, as Keenum toiled away in Denver for a season before being shipped to a franchise with no real identity. The veteran put up some big numbers early in the campaign despite the team's lack of success. But when you're almost exclusively trailing by double digits, that's not difficult. While Washington has been able to run the ball lately, Keenum will likely have to drop back more often than not as he tries to conjure up some magic against his former team as a 16-point underdog and with Adrian Peterson banged up.PickVikings' team total over 28.5You don't really want to overthink this. Minnesota's offense has been humming. Cousins has been dominant in the play-action game and is getting everyone involved. The loss of Thielen certainly hurts, but the Vikings have enough talent to move the ball effortlessly against a defense that hasn't been tested in a couple of weeks. Expect the Vikings' explosiveness to be on display against a unit with only a few days to prepare.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Pederson: Eagles prioritizing D-line help at trade deadline
Doug Pederson indicated Wednesday the Philadelphia Eagles are prioritizing an acquisition for the defensive line ahead of the trade deadline."We understand our injury situation, especially at defensive line," the fourth-year head coach told reporters. "So if we just start there, let's say, and look and see what's available, see what we can do."But we're going to do what's best for the Philadelphia Eagles, as you know. I think that's where we start. To answer the question, yes, (general manager) Howie (Roseman) and I have had conversation."The Eagles have been ravaged by injuries all year long, particularly on defense. The line struggled to absorb injuries to Malik Jackson and Timmy Jernigan, and that was before Hassan Ridgeway joined them on the shelf in Week 7. Perennial Pro Bowler Fletcher Cox has only one sack through seven games."He sees the same injuries that we see, and he knows the bind that we're in at certain positions," Pederson said of his GM. "He's constantly, with his team of guys, working to find players that are out there, whether they're on other teams' practice rosters or with the trade deadline coming up, if it's through that, whatever it might be."The secondary has also been an issue, and it has suffered from its fair share of injuries. The Eagles reportedly offered the Jacksonville Jaguars a first- and second-round pick for Jalen Ramsey before he was shipped to the Los Angeles Rams.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Falcons' Ryan misses practice but not ruled out for Seahawks tilt
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury, but he wasn't ruled out for Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks."He's one of the guys you never count out," head coach Dan Quinn told reporters, including Adam Jude of The Seattle Times. "... At this point, he definitely thinks there's an opportunity to give it a go."Ryan exited Week 7 after hurting his right ankle versus the Los Angeles Rams and was spotted in a walking boot after the game. He was later diagnosed with a sprain. The former league MVP hasn't missed a game since 2009, which was his second year in the NFL. NFL Power Rankings - Week 8: A trade-deadline target for each team
The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors. This week, we're identifying one player whom each team should look to buy or sell ahead of the Oct. 29 deadline.1. New England Patriots (7-0)Tom Szczerbowski / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 1O.J. Howard is an obvious fit for the Patriots. The athletic tight end's talents are being wasted in Tampa. Another loss and another week of Bill Belichick's phone calls should be enough for the Bucs to relent.2. New Orleans Saints (6-1)Previous Rank: 2The Saints are hurting at cornerback, so adding a cheap veteran would be ideal. Darqueze Dennard is a realistic target for New Orleans since he can play outside or in the slot and won't be expensive to acquire from the Bengals, who are likely to be sellers.3. San Francisco 49ers (6-0)Previous Rank: 5The Niners already addressed their need at wide receiver and can now look to upgrade the other side of the ball. Xavien Howard has looked disinterested with the Dolphins all year, but he's a Pro Bowl talent when focused. Miami has entertained offers for everyone else - why not its top cornerback?4. Green Bay Packers (6-1)Previous Rank: 4Injuries have decimated the Packers' receiving corps. But even when it's fully healthy, Aaron Rodgers has missed an experienced option next to Davante Adams. Green Bay might want to call the Jets about Demaryius Thomas, who could be traded for the third time in one year.5. Baltimore RavensIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 9Baltimore addressed its need at cornerback when it traded for Marcus Peters, but it could still use reinforcements in the center of its defense. Enter, Ndamukong Suh. The Bucs are going nowhere fast, and the defensive tackle isn't the type to go full speed for a lost cause. It's best for all to ship Suh to a contender.6. Minnesota Vikings (5-2)Previous Rank: 8Minnesota's poor pass protection remains one of its few weaknesses. A relatively minor move to bolster the depth seems most likely, but the Vikings should take a bigger swing on Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff, who's apparently struggling to get the type of contract extension he wants from the rebuilding Redskins.7. Seattle Seahawks (5-2)Previous Rank: 3The Seahawks need a replacement for the injured Will Dissly at tight end, and potential rental Hunter Henry fits the bill. He could price himself outside the Chargers' range in free agency, as L.A. might be reluctant to give him big money considering his injury history.8. Kansas City Chiefs (5-2)Previous Rank: 6Janoris Jenkins may be past his prime, but he's still better than what Kansas City is trotting out at cornerback. Jenkins can be cut after the season without incurring a large cap penalty.9. Indianapolis Colts (4-2)Previous Rank: 11If the Colts are to compete for a Super Bowl with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, they must add another impact player or two: Hello, Von Miller. Indy is one of the few teams that can afford Miller's cap hit and has the ammunition to make a trade work. The star pass-rusher would fill a major need.10. Buffalo Bills (5-1)Timothy T Ludwig / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 10At 5-1, the Bills are almost assured of a playoff spot. In trading for Cincinnati receiver A.J. Green, the Bills would add a necessary offensive weapon to aid Josh Allen's development.11. Houston Texans (4-3)Previous Rank: 7The Texans are clearly going all-in with little regard for draft capital. After acquiring Gareon Conley, Bill O'Brien could look to add a final offensive piece. Carlos Hyde's inconsistencies are likely to persist, so trading for Melvin Gordon could take this team to the next level.12. Carolina Panthers (4-2)Previous Rank: 13Ron Rivera's front seven is in the midst of a productive campaign, but adding a veteran defensive back would really aid Carolina's playoff push. With a deep secondary, the Ravens could move Jimmy Smith for a mid-round pick. If healthy, Smith's presence would certainly prove useful in a division featuring Drew Brees and Matt Ryan.13. Dallas Cowboys (4-3)Previous Rank: 16Outside of DeMarcus Lawrence and Robert Quinn, the Cowboys don't have much of a pass rush. Acquiring Yannick Ngakoue from Jacksonville for the stretch run would make Dallas' defense ever more dangerous.14. Los Angeles Rams (4-3)Previous Rank: 12The Rams already made one move to address their offensive line, nabbing Austin Corbett from the Browns. If they make another move, Dan Feeney from the Chargers could be on their radar. The Indiana product has struggled since entering the league, but he's probably still better than Austin Blythe at right guard.15. Detroit Lions (2-3-1)Jamie Squire / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 14Kerryon Johnson is on injured reserve, and his breakout season hadn't materialized when he was healthy. Kenyan Drake could be one of the next players sacrificed in the Dolphins' rebuild, and he'd be a logical replacement for Johnson.16. Philadelphia Eagles (3-4)Previous Rank: 15The Eagles have dealt with an inordinate number of injuries in the defensive secondary this season. They were unable to nab Jalen Ramsey, but the Broncos' Chris Harris Jr. would be a solid Plan B.17. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4)Previous Rank: 21With little cap space and a glaring hole at tight end, the Bengals' Tyler Eifert is an ideal target for Jacksonville. Eifert won't cost much, has a low cap hit, and would give the Jaguars a potential red-zone weapon.18. Chicago Bears (3-3)Previous Rank: 18Chicago has holes on the offensive line and at tight end. It's unlikely that the Falcons will want to part with breakout tight end and pending free agent Austin Hooper, but that shouldn't stop the Bears from picking up the phone.19. Oakland Raiders (3-3)Previous Rank: 17Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden are reportedly searching for a pass-rusher, and Markus Golden is having a nice year with the Giants. Golden's five sacks would rank first on the Raiders.20. Arizona Cardinals (3-3-1)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 25Deionte Thompson isn't cutting it at strong safety, so the surging Cardinals could upgrade with Reshad Jones, a veteran whom the Dolphins would have no problem adding to their talent exodus of 2019.21. Tennessee Titans (3-4)Previous Rank: 24Tennesee's interior offensive line has struggled thus far. A veteran like Alex Mack would provide a boost in both the rushing and passing attack. The AFC South is wide open, while the Falcons are on the verge of a major rebuild.22. Cleveland Browns (2-4)Previous Rank: 19The Browns are apparently trying their hardest to land Trent Williams, but the Redskins are being inexplicably stubborn with their holdout left tackle who's made it clear he wants out. Cleveland's porous offensive line is hindering Baker Mayfield's development, and while Williams will require a premium pick, it's a price worth paying.23. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4)Previous Rank: 20Pittsburgh's splash move already came with the acquisition of Minkah Fitzpatrick. With a playoff push highly unlikely, the Steelers should look to reinforce their depth on the defensive line after losing Stephon Tuitt for the year. A familiar face like Jets veteran Steve McLendon could help fill the void.24. Los Angeles Chargers (2-5)Previous Rank: 23It's time to cut the cord on Melvin Gordon. First, he alienated himself with a head-scratching holdout that even he admitted accomplished nothing. Then, he came back to steal snaps from the Chargers' best running back, Austin Ekeler.25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-4)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 27Bruce Arians and Co. will likely acquire a quarterback via the draft or free agency in 2020, so adding an established player to the offensive line without sacrificing another high draft pick would be beneficial. Cordy Glenn, who has fallen out of favor in Cincinnati, is a sensible target.26. New York Giants (2-5)Previous Rank: 26Just two games back of the division leaders, the Giants still have plenty to play for. A deal with their in-town rivals for Leonard Williams would go a long way toward helping their defense.27. Denver Broncos (2-5)Previous Rank: 22Chris Harris Jr. is likely to move on in free agency, so there's no reason for Denver to keep him. As a high-producing cornerback, he should carry plenty of trade value.28. New York Jets (1-5)Previous Rank: 28The Jets might sell off minor parts for draft picks, but they could also look to add a piece that helps them in both the present and the future. With their offensive line hurting, a deal for the Browns' Joel Bitonio sounds appealing.29. Atlanta Falcons (1-6)Previous Rank: 29With Vic Beasley set to hit the open market this offseason, Atlanta should attempt to retrieve whatever it can for the former No. 8 pick. Beasley has just 11.5 sacks since his breakout 2016 season, but a team with draft capital may want to take a chance on his upside.30. Washington Redskins (1-6)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 30There's no shortage of potential suitors for left tackle Trent Williams. The seven-time Pro Bowler should net the rebuilding Redskins an impressive haul of draft picks.31. Cincinnati Bengals (0-7)Previous Rank: 31Cincinnati may not want to admit it, but there is no point in keeping A.J. Green given his age, recent injury history, and the Bengals' imminent entry into a multi-year rebuild.32. Miami Dolphins (0-6)Previous Rank: 32Everything must go. Aside from their draft picks and maybe Xavien Howard, the Dolphins should be selling as many assets as possible ahead of this trade deadline. Kenyan Drake could use a move to a contender.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Seahawks acquire Quandre Diggs from Lions
The Seattle Seahawks acquired defensive back Quandre Diggs and a seventh-round draft pick in 2021 from the Detroit Lions for a 2020 fifth-round pick, the team announced on Tuesday.Diggs is a versatile defender who can line up at safety or slot corner, though Detroit deployed him as a deep-lying defender this season. He's flashed skills in coverage but is particularly adept in run defense.Seattle was in need of safety depth as veteran Bradley McDougald and rookie Marquise Blair are currently battling injuries.Former Lions teammate Darius Slay did not appear pleased with the deal.
Lions placing Kerryon Johnson on IR after knee surgery
Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson is heading to injured reserve after undergoing a knee procedure Tuesday morning, head coach Matt Patricia said, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.By going to injured reserve, Johnson will be required to miss at least eight weeks. Patricia added that the Lions hope the runner can return this season.Johnson left Week 7 with a knee injury and was initially deemed week-to-week. He has posted 3.3 yards per carry in six appearances this year, a far cry from the 5.4 yards per rush he averaged in his first NFL season.Ty Johnson, a rookie drafted in the sixth round out of Maryland, is expected to handle starting duties while the former Auburn star is sidelined.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Broncos trade Sanders to 49ers for draft picks
The Denver Broncos have traded wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and a fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for third- and fourth-round selections, the team announced Tuesday."Emmanuel had issues and we had issues, so that's why it was (a) good time to go in different directions," Broncos general manager John Elway said after finalizing the deal, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic.Sanders posted 30 receptions for 367 yards and two touchdowns over seven appearances this season. The 32-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency after the season. While departing the Broncos' facility, Sanders told reporters it's "hard" to leave. In September, though, he said the struggling Broncos were "living in a world of suck," seemingly indicating he'd be open to a trade."Times are rough around here. Obviously, the past three years - it's been tough. Trying to get it right. We sit at 0-3, living in a world of suck," he said at the time. "Football is still fun, but not as much fun when you're losing ... "San Francisco cemented itself as a buyer in the trade market by winning its sixth straight game to begin the season without a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver. Sanders could fill that role while playing primarily in the slot. The Niners pulled the trigger on the Sanders deal after being outbid by the New England Patriots for Mohamed Sanu, sources told The MMQB's Albert Breer. Not only can Darnold be started against the Jaguars' middle-of-the-pack pass defense next Sunday, but he should be viewed as a borderline QB1 in fantasy the rest of the season.Mason Rudolph, SteelersNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. MIA6%$2After sitting out Week 6 with a concussion, Rudolph returns to the starting role as the Steelers come off their bye week. He couldn't ask for a better matchup than a Miami defense allowing the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Rudolph had multiple passing touchdowns in three straight games before getting injured; he should be a lock to hit that mark versus the Dolphins, who've given up at least two passing scores in every game. Despite his low ownership, he's one of the week's best available streamers.Other options: Teddy Bridgewater vs. ARI (16% owned), Gardner Minshew II vs. NYJ (52% owned), Jacoby Brissett vs. DEN (48% owned), Derek Carr at HOU (20% owned), Ryan Tannehill vs. TB (5% owned), Mitch Trubisky vs. LAC (25% owned), Daniel Jones at DET (35% owned)Running backsGregory Shamus / Getty Images Sport / GettyAdrian Peterson and Jamaal Williams are around the 60% ownership mark and should be owned in most leagues.Ty Johnson, LionsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. NYG2%$49As Kerryon Johnson stood on the sidelines in a knee brace, it was Ty Johnson who handled the majority of the work in the Lions' backfield in Week 7. With Kerryon placed on injured reserve, Ty is set to take over as the starter in Detroit. His next opponent is the Giants, who were just eviscerated by another backup when Chase Edmonds put up 150 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. Ty should be treated as an RB2 against New York with another favorable matchup in Week 9 against the Raiders.Chase Edmonds, CardinalsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat NO48%$19David Johnson was active for Arizona's game against the Giants, so it was surprising when he barely played. We could see more of the same unless the Cardinals are more forthcoming about Johnson's health. On Monday, the team worked out several veteran backs, including Jay Ajayi and Spencer Ware. Whether that's due to Johnson's status or a search for a potential replacement for third-stringer DJ Foster is currently unknown. Even when Johnson was handling his normal snaps, Edmonds carved out weekly flex value in fantasy, so it wasn't a total shock to see the sophomore go off with his starter out. Unfortunately, there's added risk with Edmonds: His upcoming schedule features four stout run defenses in a row - the Saints, 49ers, Bucs, and 49ers again - before the Cardinals' bye. He's more of a sell-high candidate than a player to rely on, but he needs to be owned in every format.Malcolm Brown/Darrell Henderson, RamsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. CIN29%/31%$9/$9The hype around Henderson culminated in a disappointing 39 yards on 11 touches while he played second fiddle to Todd Gurley in Week 7. Brown was sidelined with an ankle injury and will likely resume his role as the immediate backup when healthy. But with Gurley already battling injury issues, both backs need to be rostered due to their immense upside if thrust into larger roles.Mark Walton, DolphinsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat PIT20%$5The Dolphins' coaching staff promised to get Walton more involved after their bye, and that's been the case so far: Walton got 11 touches for 75 yards in Week 6 and 15 touches for 58 yards in Week 7. Investing in Miami's backfield is hard to advise, but Walton offers value if you're desperate for a plug-and-play option.Other options: Ronald Jones at TEN (48% owned), Alexander Mattison vs. WAS (25% owned), Tony Pollard on Bye (16% owned), Gus Edwards on Bye (5% owned), Benny Snell Jr. vs. MIA (5% owned), Rashaad Penny at ATL (37% owned), Ryquell Armstead vs. NYJ (1% owned), Wayne Gallman at DET (18% owned), Reggie Bonnafon at SF (5% owned), Jordan Wilkins vs. DEN (1% owned), Kareem Hunt - returns from suspension Week 10 (53% owned), Ty Montgomery at JAX (3% owned), Giovani Bernard at LAR (7% owned), Darrel Williams vs. GB (11% owned), Brian Hill vs. SEA (0% owned), Jalen Richard at HOU (4% owned), DeAndre Washington at HOU (0% owned)Wide receiversQuinn Harris / Getty Images Sport / GettyDK Metcalf, Jamison Crowder, DeSean Jackson, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Mohamed Sanu are all around the 60% ownership mark and should be owned in most leagues.Kenny Stills/Keke Coutee, TexansNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. OAK13%/14%$24/$9Stills and Coutee both stand to benefit with Will Fuller expected to miss several weeks with a serious hamstring pull. Stills played 93% of the snaps Sunday, delivering four catches and 105 yards, and he now has 85 yards or a touchdown in three of the five games in which he's suited up for Houston. A perfect replacement for Fuller, Stills will be a WR3 with upside in the former's absence. Coutee also set a season-high for playing time in Week 7, seeing the field on 69% of Houston's snaps. He posted multiple 100-yard outings as a rookie and is capable of being a difference-maker if he gets more volume while Fuller's on the shelf.Corey Davis/AJ Brown, TitansNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat TB41%/17%$7/$5Don't get too excited about Ryan Tannehill's performance, but in his first start for the Titans, he did help stabilize the passing attack - at least for one week. That allowed Davis and Brown to put up respective lines of 6-80-1 and 6-64-0 against the Chargers - a far more challenging opponent than the one they'll face in Week 8. The Buccaneers' pass-funnel defense has given up 70-yard days to 10 different receivers in 2019, setting up both Davis and Brown as worthy flex plays. The quarterback change also offers a spark of hope for their season-long values.Preston Williams/DeVante Parker, DolphinsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat PIT12%/14%$5/$5Williams and Parker produced on the road against a stingy Bills pass defense that routinely shuts down opposing wideouts. Parker's touchdown gave him the better fantasy line with 5-55-1, but Williams led the team in receiving yards with 6-82-0. Even with last week's fumble, Williams is the preferred start between the two; the rookie's 23 receptions and 314 yards on the year outpace Parker's 18 grabs and 284 yards. Consider them WR4s with some weekly upside but very low floors.Auden Tate, BengalsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat LAR38%$5Tate has played over 90% of the Bengals' snaps over their last five contests, posting stat lines of 6-88-0, 4-50-0, 3-26-1, 5-91-0, and 3-65-0. In other words, he has 50 yards or a touchdown in every game during that span. A.J. Green isn't expected to return for at least a couple of weeks and the possibility of a trade looms. As long as Green remains out, trust Tate as a fringe WR3.Other options: DaeSean Hamilton at IND (6% owned), Phillip Dorsett vs. CLE (44% owned), Diontae Johnson vs. MIA (14% owned), Zach Pascal vs. DEN (1% owned), Anthony Miller vs. LAC (12% owned), Alex Erickson at LAR (2% owned), N'Keal Harry - can return from I.R. in Week 9 (12% owned), Demaryius Thomas at JAX (7% owned), Jaron Brown at ATL (1% owned), Keelan Doss at HOU (0% owned), Danny Amendola vs. NYG (5% owned), Olabisi Johnson vs. WAS (0% owned), Miles Boykin on Bye (1% owned), Chris Conley vs. NYJ (2% owned), Kendrick Bourne vs. CAR (0% owned)Tight endsAl Bello / Getty Images Sport / GettyGerald Everett and Jared Cook are around the 60% ownership mark and should be owned in most leagues.Chris Herndon, JetsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat JAX29%$9Herndon's 2019 debut was delayed by a suspension and then a hamstring injury. It's been incredibly frustrating, but don't lose sight of his value. His return coincides with the easiest part of the Jets' schedule, and he's one of the only tight ends still available in most leagues who offer weekly top-10 upside.Vance McDonald, SteelersNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. MIA49%$3Though tight ends haven't torched the Dolphins the way other positions have, Miami still represents an above-average matchup for McDonald. With time to regroup coming off their bye, it's possible the Steelers try to get McDonald more involved the rest of the way. Even if that's not the case, you could do worse than streaming a tight end against a Dolphins team allowing a league-worst 35 points per game.Other options: Jonnu Smith vs. TB (0% owned), Eric Ebron vs. DEN (52% owned), Dallas Goedert at BUF (13% owned), Ben Watson vs. CLE (4% owned), O.J. Howard at TEN (54% owned), Darren Fells vs. OAK (29% owned), Jordan Akins vs. OAK (8% owned), Kyle Rudolph vs. WAS (28% owned), Irv Smith Jr. vs. WAS (28% owned), Ricky Seals-Jones at NE (3% owned), Foster Moreau at HOU (0% owned)Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL Week 8 survivor picks
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. With six teams laying at least a touchdown, Week 8 is bursting with survivor options. It's safe to assume everyone still standing has picked the New England Patriots by now, but you still have up to five legitimate options to rely on to get you to Week 9.Luckily, there's one that stands out.Safest pick: Minnesota VikingsKirk Cousins welcomes his former team, the Washington Redskins, to Minneapolis this week. The Vikings are riding a three-game win streak that started when the polarizing quarterback was called out by wide receivers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs following an ugly loss to the Chicago Bears.Since then, the Vikings have ripped through the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Detroit Lions with reckless abandon. Cousins is throwing darts all over the field, Dalvin Cook continues to steamroll opponents, Diggs has rediscovered his form, and the defense remains as stingy as ever. They've scored a league-high 108 points over the last three weeks.
Gase, Jets bothered by ESPN airing Darnold's 'seeing ghosts' clip
Sam Darnold's reaction to the New England Patriots' relentless defense went viral Monday night. The New York Jets quarterback threw four interceptions and lost a fumble during a 33-0 loss. Darnold was mic'd-up for the game, and ESPN aired a clip of the sophomore quarterback admitting he was "seeing ghosts."
Belichick used 'loophole' in NFL rule book to kill clock vs. Jets
Bill Belichick's genius was at work again Monday night as he showcased his knowledge of the NFL rule book while leading the New England Patriots to a 33-0 blowout of the New York Jets.Facing fourth-and-2 with 11:13 left in the game and the Patriots needing to merely kill the clock, New England's punt team took to the field and let the play clock run out. The Pats were assessed a delay of game penalty, which the Jets declined. The play clock and game clock resumed. The play clock nearly ran out for a second time before Patriots running back Brandon Bolden purposely took a false start penalty, which the Jets declined. The clocks started again and the Patriots finally punted. By the time the Jets returner called for a fair catch, 9:43 remained. After the Patriots successfully killed 1:30 off the clock, Belichick was seen on the television broadcast suppressing a wry smile.
Beckham sounds off on $14K uniform violation fine
Over a month after his on-field watch controversy, Odell Beckham Jr. is being punished for his choice of lower-body wear. The Cleveland Browns wide receiver was fined $14,037 for wearing pants that didn't cover his knees during a Week 6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, which violated the NFL's uniform and equipment policy.Beckham sounded off on the fine via an Instagram story.
Report: Kerryon Johnson week-to-week with knee injury
Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson is expected to miss "some time" after suffering a knee injury in Week 7, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Lions will label Johnson as week-to-week for the time being, Schefter adds. The second-year tailback left early in Detroit's loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. After briefly visiting the locker room, he returned to the bench with a brace over his right leg.Johnson has somewhat struggled through six games in 2019 following a productive rookie campaign. The 22-year-old is averaging 3.3 yards per carry with three touchdowns on the year.Rookie sixth-round pick Ty Johnson and veteran J.D. McKissic will presumably lead the Lions' backfield until Johnson is cleared to return.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Nagy acknowledges Bears' lack of rush attempts: 'I'm not an idiot'
Matt Nagy acknowledged the criticism Monday over his play-calling, which has turned the Chicago Bears into a pass-heavy offense at times in his second year at the helm."I know we need to run the ball more," the reigning NFL Coach of the Year said, according to Mark Grote of WSCR Radio. "I'm not an idiot."The Bears registered just seven rush attempts in their Week 7 loss to the New Orleans Saints, a far cry from the 54 passes Mitchell Trubisky threw. For the season, Chicago has the sixth-largest discrepancy between rush and pass attempts, throwing the pigskin 65.2% of the time."I never go into a game saying I want to throw the ball 54 times," Nagy added. "I'd love to go into a game saying I'd like to run the ball 54 times, but that hasn't happened."Nagy helped resurrect the Bears' offense last year, but the unit has regressed to third-worst in the NFL in 2019. Even when Chicago has tried to establish the run, the results haven't been great.Running backYPGTDsDavid Montgomery3.32Tarik Cohen2.30Mike Davis2.40"It's about productive plays," Nagy said of the running game. Matt Ryan has sprained ankle, uncertain for Week 8
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan's status for the team's Week 8 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks is up in the air due to a sprained ankle, head coach Dan Quinn said, according to ESPN's Field Yates."We'll be preparing for both (him playing or not)," Quinn said. "If he can't, that's the reason (backup quarterback) Matt Schaub is here."Ryan won't practice at the start of the week, but it's to be determined if he'll participate in practice later in the week, Yates adds. The 34-year-old signal-caller exited Sunday's 37-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams early during the fourth quarter and underwent an MRI on Monday.Ryan hasn't missed a game since 2009, totaling 151 consecutive starts in that span.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Texans acquire Gareon Conley from Raiders
The Houston Texans have acquired cornerback Gareon Conley from the Oakland Raiders for a third-round draft pick, sources told Vic Tafur of The Athletic. The pick headed to Oakland originally belonged to the Seattle Seahawks. Houston acquired it in the Jadeveon Clowney trade."It was a tough decision, obviously," Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said. "We certainly wish Gareon the best. Good, young player. We do have some young corners that we drafted. ... We want to look at some younger players and wish Gareon the best, thank him for his contribution."Conley was drafted 24th overall by the Raiders in 2017. He started 20 of 23 career games, including all six this year. He was viable in coverage throughout his sophomore campaign, but surrendered 18 catches and four touchdowns over 26 targets this season, according to Pro Football Focus.Houston, which plays more man-to-man defense than Oakland, will add the 24-year-old to a secondary that had Johnathan Joseph and Bradley Roby penciled in as starters. The Texans have been as aggressive on the trade market as any team in the NFL since the summer, swinging deals for Laremy Tunsil, Duke Johnson, and Conley, among others. They are now slated to have just four selections in the 2020 draft.Texans' 2020 draft picksRound2457As for the Raiders, they were reportedly gearing up to be buyers at the trade deadline. It's unclear if dumping Conley for a pick is part of a greater scheme. At 3-3, the Raiders trail the Texans for the second wild-card spot in the AFC playoff race.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
