Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been around the NBA long enough to know what it looks like when a team owner makes an inappropriate comment.Referring to recent player protests against police brutality and in support of racial equality, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair told his fellow NFL team owners, "we can't have the inmates running the prison." McNair later apologized for the comment via the Texans' public relations Twitter account."Wow! This sure does sound very Donald Sterling-esque," Green wrote in an Instatgram post, criticizing the Texans' founder and CEO.In 2014, Sterling was banished from the NBA and forced to sell the Los Angeles Clippers after a recording was released wherein he made racist remarks about black people, including Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.Green also took umbrage with the notion of calling McNair the Texans' "owner," preferring instead to use "chairman.""To be owned by someone just sets a bad precedent to start," Green wrote of the power dynamic between the team's proprietary assets and its human personnel. "It sets the wrong tone. It gives one the wrong mindset."When asked about his own comments at the Warriors' Friday shootaround, Green reiterated his outrage over McNair's comments, calling them "unacceptable":

A complaint filed to the National Labor Relations Board against the Dallas Cowboys regarding comments made by Jerry Jones has been withdrawn.Local 100 of the United Labor Unions filed the complaint earlier this month after Jones threatened to bench players who protest during the national anthem for "disrespecting the flag." The union decided to drop the complaint following a meeting between NFL owners and players last week."If Jerry Jones threatens or disciplines any players of the Dallas Cowboys despite the clear position of the NFL and others, we will immediately refile these charges with the NLRB and pursue them to their conclusion," Local 100 chief organizer Wade Rathke said in a release obtained by ESPN."We are hopeful that Jones has learned that there are legal limits that guide his treatment of his workforce and rights that cannot be abridged, regardless of his own personal opinion. We will continue to monitor this closely. We hope a lesson was learned, and that we had some small impact on this debate, and the actions of the NFL doing the right thing."Jones is one of the lone owners who's drawn praise from President Donald Trump, who asked owners to fire players who protest during the national anthem at a rally in September. Trump's comments led to an increase in league-wide protests. Some Cowboys players have continued to protest throughout the season, including defensive end David Irving, who raised his fist at the end of the anthem before the last two games.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. In preparation for Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, here's a look at five players who could be on the move, and whose value would improve as a result.Fantasy managers who own these five trade candidates would benefit greatly from a deal, while others may want to try acquiring their services ahead of time.Martavis Bryant, WR, SteelersThe most prominent case of "will they or won't they" over the last couple weeks has been Bryant, who continues to seek a trade via social media only to be shot down by head coach Mike Tomlin.Rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster has essentially surpassed Bryant on the Steelers' depth chart, outperforming him in terms of touchdowns and catch rate (and celebrations). Meanwhile, the third-year receiver (Bryant missed all of 2016 due to suspension) has caught just 18 of a modest 36 targets through seven games.Signed at an extremely reasonable $705,000 for 2018 on the final year of his rookie deal, Bryant will be very appealing for NFL teams looking to compete in the next two years. The Steelers will just need to decide how they value him for that same window.Ideal landing spot: Detroit LionsCarlos Hyde, RB, 49ersThe 49ers will need to assess how Hyde, an unrestricted free agent at season's end, will fit into their ongoing rebuild. Rookie Matt Breida has impressed at times this season, and comes much cheaper for the next several years.Based solely off performance, Hyde would stick with the team that drafted him 57th overall in 2014, as he's averaged 4.3 yards per carry and has racked up four touchdowns this season on one of the league's lowest-scoring teams. He's performing at a career-best rate in the passing game, too.A clear every-down back, Hyde should certainly entice teams competing in 2017 that may also want to re-sign him. Moving to a higher-scoring offense would vault Hyde's fantasy value into the game's elite.Ideal landing spot: Washington RedskinsDwayne Allen, TE, PatriotsAllen's been targeted just six times on the season and not once in the past three weeks. As the Patriots' No. 2 tight end, he was expected to have limited fantasy upside in season-long leagues but the right matchups should've created some daily fantasy appeal. This hasn't been the case, even in the one game Rob Gronkowski was forced to miss due to injury.Allen's been used primarily as a blocker, receiving an inadequate Pro Football Focus grade of just 40.6. He had six touchdowns with the Indianapolis Colts last season and could be a major asset for any number of teams struggling in the red zone.Ideal landing spot: Atlanta FalconsTyrell Williams, WR, ChargersWhile there hasn't been a public trade request from Williams or any indication the Chargers are looking to move him, he's received a total of just six targets over the past three weeks and is the Chargers' lowest-graded qualified wide receiver, according to Pro Football Focus.Teams in need of receiving help may have an easier time acquiring Williams than Bryant, as Williams will be a restricted free agent at the end of the current season and doesn't come with the off-field issues that have plagued Bryant. For now, he's on pace for totals well below his breakout 2016 season in terms of receptions, targets, yards, and touchdowns. The debut of rookie Mike Williams has crowded the Chargers' receiving corps and they need help in other areas.Ideal landing spot: Kansas City ChiefsSam Bradford, QB, VikingsCertainly the least likely real-life move on this list, Bradford has been sidelined by injury ever since dazzling in the Vikings' season opener. And with Teddy Bridgewater on the brink of his anticipated return, a healthy Bradford would be left as the Vikings' backup as he enters free agency after this season. The Vikings would surely like to recoup some of the lofty price they paid to acquire him from the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2016 season. With an abundance of teams in playoff contention and in need of a quarterback, there are plenty of potential landing spots where Bradford would quickly re-establish himself as a weekly fantasy starter.Ideal landing spot: Denver Broncos(Photos courtesy: Action Images)Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. A lesser organization would've been sunk by the perpetual drama surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the writers for "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" run out of compelling stories in Season 14, they should forgo the Hidden Hills for a quick stop in Steel City. But in spite of their internal strife, the Steelers may be the AFC's best team and enter November as a Super Bowl contender. How did we get here?Martavis Bryant, the absurdly talented yet combustible receiver, is benched for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions due to a series of temper tantrums. Bryant, who returned from indefinite suspension prior to the season, is irate over his lack of touches and blasted teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster in a since-deleted Instagram post, saying the rookie is "nowhere near better than me, fool." Bryant is now trying to refute reports that he asked for a trade, and while the 25-year-old said he isn't trying to beef with his teammates, his demotion to the scout team is in response to his immaturity.Bryant's soap opera shenanigans could be operating as a microcosm of the Steelers' offensive leadership. Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown have been at odds all season, despite the latter posting an MVP-worthy campaign. Brown went ballistic on the sidelines during an Oct. 1 victory over arch-rival Baltimore Ravens, throwing a Gatorade bucket while ignoring advice from offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Superstars getting upset during games isn't uncommon; Roethlisberger, however, validated the conflict in the media."I don't know he needs to react that way. He's superhuman on the football field, and when that happens, it almost brings him back to being a mere mortal, if you will. Because it gets in his head and it just messes with all of us a little bit. ... I'm not trying to call AB out. I just think this is causing a distraction that none of us really need," Roethlisberger said on Oct. 3.Most teams would crumble if their five-time Pro Bowl quarterback and superstar wide receiver further engaged their feud in the media, but the Steelers are the picture of stability and have continued ticking. Brown is turning the NFL receiving title into an absolute joke, with 52 receptions for 765 yards and three touchdowns; A.J. Green ranks second with 545 yards. Roethlisberger and Brown don't have to buy each other Christmas cards, but they do need to keep this level of production if they hope to get to the Super Bowl together. We've gone this far without mentioning Le'Veon Bell, and would be remiss to continue to do so, as the running back ranks second with 684 rushing yards. Bell's training camp holdout is ancient history at this point, but it's worth mentioning in a year full of conflict. The 25-year-old put his differences aside for the common good, and perhaps the rest of the Steelers could learn from him. Bell may be the NFL's best running back and is a weapon other AFC teams don't have. The Steelers may not be working to their full capacity without contributions from Bryant, but it's still good enough. Pittsburgh ranks fifth in total offense and offensive DVOA, a formula devised to account for down-and-distance and quality of opponent. It appears Brown and Bell, along with Smith-Schuster, provide enough firepower between the three of them to consistently move the sticks.Although the Steelers' identity is shrouded in offensive fireworks, the defense has been exceptional and may be the most underrated unit in the league. Pittsburgh ranks third in scoring defense (16.6 points allowed per game) and total defense, first in passing defense and second in sacks (24). Ryan Shazier is the AFC's best inside linebacker, T.J. Watt is showing signs of stardom, Joe Haden is having a resurgent campaign, and Cam Heyward has never been better. The Steelers have more than enough defensive talent to win a Super Bowl, even if their offense continues to wage war among themselves.Pittsburgh may already be the AFC's best team with a strong defense and star-laden offense. The Steelers beat the Chiefs - one of the leading contenders in the AFC - while the Patriots look more vulnerable than they have in a half-decade due to a defense that's fallen off a cliff. Facing no competition within the AFC North, as the Ravens have wilted while the Browns and Bengals plan their rebuild, the AFC is for the taking.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Every week, theScore's football editors will take a deep dive into the rating changes from the Madden 18 video game, looking at the most notable risers and fallers based on the previous week's action.RisersRussell Wilson, QB, Seahawks88 overall ➔ 89 overallWilson put the Seahawks' offense on his back in Sunday's win over the Giants. In one of his two best games this season, Wilson threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers only one sack.Micah Hyde, S, Bills81 overall ➔ 85 overallHyde's stock just keeps rising this season as he has found ways to help the Bills stop both the run and pass. He couldn't add to his league-leading four interceptions in the win over Tampa Bay, but with four tackles and two pass deflections, his effort was strong enough to warrant a boost.Marshon Lattimore, CB, Saints81 overall ➔ 84 overallLattimore has played himself into the conversation for Defensive Rookie of the Year with his shutdown coverage. The rookie led the Saints' secondary in keeping the Packers' top three receivers to a combined five catches for 45 yards Sunday.Kenny Stills, WR, Dolphins79 overall ➔ 81 overallStills played a big part in Miami's win over the Jets, scoring both of the team's fourth-quarter touchdowns and totaling 85 yards. Without a healthy DeVante Parker in the lineup, Stills is seeing plenty of targets.Aaron Jones, RB, Packers73 overall ➔ 77 overallThough many expected Ty Montgomery to re-claim the starting role in Green Bay, Jones collected 70 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive last weekend and finished the game with 131 yards on the ground.FallersTrent Williams, LT, Redskins90 overall ➔ 88 overallSeveral Eagles pass-rushers found success against Williams on Monday as Kirk Cousins was sacked four times and suffered ten quarterback hits. Williams is usually on top of his game, but Philly had him spinning in circles.Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Giants85 overall ➔ 82 overallFollowing his mysterious one-game suspension, Rodgers-Cromartie had a poor outing in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, failing to re-gain his starting job from Eli Apple and making just one tackle.Martavis Bryant, WR, Steelers80 overall ➔ 78 overallAfter making one catch for three yards in last week's win over the Bengals, Bryant's outburst of frustration landed him on the inactive list for the upcoming contest. No surprise to see his rating drop when he isn't even being used.Terrelle Pryor, WR, Redskins80 overall ➔ 78 overallPryor's demotion from the starting lineup in favor of Josh Doctson didn't go unnoticed. Without making more than three catches in any game since Week 1, Pryor's performance has not lived up to expectations.Vincent Rey, LB, Bengals80 overall ➔ 77 overallAfter being juked hard by Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell on Sunday, Rey could apparently be heard saying "oh my goodness." The NFL and its players continue to try to find a compromise regarding protests during the national anthem and how best to approach social justice reform, but a recent comment from Houston Texans owner Bob McNair is unlikely to improve relations.McNair said "we can't have the inmates running the prison" in reference to NFL players protests during an owners session at the recent league meeting, according to ESPN's Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr., who detailed the inner workings of the meetings, which also involved talks with players, in a story published Friday. The owner's words reportedly "stunned some in the room." McNair's comments followed a speech from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who argued the NFL must do something to combat the effect protests are having on the league's business.McNair released a statement later Friday, saying he didn't mean the words "literally" and that the comment wasn't actually a reference to the players.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso defended his late on hit on Joe Flacco after Thursday's game, saying there was "no way" he could've avoided hitting the sliding Baltimore Ravens quarterback."It was a bang-bang play," Alonso said, according to Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald. "I thought if maybe he slid a second sooner, I was anticipating him sliding, and not hit him. But I think it was a second late; that's why I hit him."Flacco was knocked out of the game after sustaining a concussion from the hit, which caused a face-to-face shouting match between Alonso and head coach John Harbaugh and led to a tense rest of the game between both sides."That's the target," Alonso continued. "When a guy slides, and his target is very small, I just think it's like a second late, which is why I hit him, to be honest with you. At first I was anticipating him, I thought he was going to slide. And then, I had to hit him, because he slid too late. It was bang-bang. I don't know what else I could have done."Related: Referees must be more willing to issue ejections for illegal hitsNdamukong Suh, who later in the game grabbed Ryan Mallett's throat after an offside penalty, defended his teammate."I know Kiko is not a dirty player," Suh said. BALTIMORE (AP) Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was dazed and bleeding as he was helped off the field.Diagnosed with a concussion after absorbing a late hit by Miami linebacker Kiko Alonso late in the second quarter, Flacco was taken to the locker room and did not return.Fortunately for the Ravens, they didn't need him in a 40-0 rout of the Dolphins on Thursday night.Alex Collins ran for a career-high 113 yards, and Baltimore (4-4) returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the most lopsided shutout in franchise history. In the midst of one of his best performances of the season, Flacco was hit high by Alonso while sliding at the end of an impromptu run. Flacco's helmet flew off his head, and the 10-year quarterback appeared wobbly as he struggled to his feet.Alonso was flagged for unnecessary roughness, providing Baltimore with a first down that ultimately turned into a touchdown.Flacco was initially placed in concussion protocol, and by halftime was ruled out.''Joe had a concussion and a cut ear,'' coach John Harbaugh said. ''They were stitching it up without any anesthesia, so he's a tough dude. That's as much as I know.''Flacco went 10 for 15 for 101 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin. After losing four of five to fall under .500 for the first time this season, the Ravens put it all together with a showing that included a 63-yard interception return by C.J. Mosley and a 50-yard pick-six by Jimmy Smith.''We coached a lot better, obviously. And we played a lot better,'' Harbaugh said. ''It was just a much better game for us.''The Dolphins (4-3) came in with a three-game winning streak after rallying from 17- and 14-point deficits in the previous two weeks. There would be no comeback in this one, not against a swarming Baltimore defense that limited Miami to 196 yards.Matt Moore was making his first start of the season, for an injured Jay Cutler. Four days earlier, Moore engineered a victory over the Jets after Cutler left with fractured ribs.In this one, Moore completed 25 of 44 passes for 176 yards. He was sacked three times, and both his interceptions turned into scores for Baltimore.''This is tough. These are hard ones,'' Moore said. ''You don't ever go into a week preparing and expect it to turn out like this. I don't know what to say right now. It's just tough, tough. We got to figure some stuff out. I got to figure some stuff out.''Moore received little backing from the running game, which generated only 45 yards against the 32nd-ranked rushing defense in the NFL.''It was inept. We're not doing anything,'' Miami coach Adam Gase said.Baltimore went up 7-0 when Maclin slipped behind Bobby McCain and Nate Allen to haul in Flacco's perfect pass on the right sideline.Justin Tucker added field goals of 55 and 48 yards in the second quarter. After Cody Parkey missed from 50 yards for the Dolphins - his first misfire in nine tries this season - Flacco began the drive that would end in the end zone without him.The late hit by Alonso gave Baltimore a first down at the Miami 5. Three plays later, Ryan Mallett threw a 2-yard TD pass to Benjamin Watson.Mosley iced it with 14:15 left when he snared a poor throw by Moore near the line of scrimmage and turned it into his first career interception return for a touchdown. As the Ravens were closing in on another score, a few players exchanged shoves and punches before Chris Moore pounced on a fumble in the end zone.Overseeing an offense focused on protecting a sizable lead, Mallett went 3 for 7 for 20 yards.CAT NAPA cat ran onto the field in the fourth quarter, providing some amusement after the game had lost all suspense. The feline reached the Miami sideline and skipped around a bit before running out of sight.INJURIESDolphins: Allen hurt his calf in the second quarter and did not return.Ravens: TE Vince Mayle was placed in concussion protocol in the second quarter. ... LT Ronnie Stanley hurt his shoulder in the third quarter but returned to action.UP NEXTDolphins: Miami plays the second of three straight night games, this one at home against Oakland on Nov. 5.Ravens: Baltimore faces Tennessee on the road on Nov. 5, the first meeting between the teams since 2014.---For more NFL coverage: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP-NFLCopyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. After about two months away from the game, Anquan Boldin apparently wants back in, but not with the team that signed him in August. The Buffalo Bills have given Boldin permission to seek a trade as the veteran contemplates a return from retirement, and they have until next Tuesday to get a deal done.Though he would be entering his 15th season, Boldin is coming off an eight-touchdown, 584-yard season and can still provide a boost to a contending team experiencing troubles at the wide receiver position.Should he be game, here are three teams that could use the veteran and give him a chance at another championship this season:Kansas City ChiefsKansas City has put together a high-paced offense despite a lack of impactful receivers outside of Tyreek Hill. After losing red-zone specialist Chris Conley to an Achilles injury earlier this year, the Chiefs are missing a go-to target near the end zone.Despite losing a step or two, Boldin's best uses come on third down and in the red zone, where he can use his awareness and experience best - not to mention the leadership he could provide to a very young receiving corps.Detroit LionsBoldin is already familiar with the Lions after spending the 2016 season on their roster. Detroit looks to have jumped the gun, relying on youth to produce without Boldin. However, rookie Kenny Golladay has missed the last three games and TJ Jones has struggled to make an impact as the team's third receiver in the injured wideout's place. Golden Tate has also been impacted by injury and the Lions' offense is struggling with losses in three of their last four games. It's too late in the season to expect Matthew Stafford to build a bond with a new guy, so Boldin could be the ideal solution in Detroit.Atlanta FalconsAtlanta's offense is lost without offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, and the team has become increasingly dependent on two struggling stars - Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman. The Falcons went 1-for-4 in the red zone against the New England Patriots last week with Jones pulling in the sole score from in close.Boldin's wisdom could both help the Falcons receivers snap out of their funk while also adding an extra scoring threat to a team that's still in its division hunt despite a nasty Super Bowl hangover.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Rex Ryan became known for his defiant defense of Mark Sanchez, but behind the scenes, the former New York Jets head coach often questioned the quarterback's ceiling."With Sanchez, I knew he wasn't going to be a franchise quarterback," Ryan told Rich Cimini of ESPN. "But I thought he'd be good enough to win with."Sanchez entered the league as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, and quarterbacked the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Games in his first two seasons. Those squads, however, were led by stellar defenses and strong running games, and often won in spite of Sanchez's turnovers. The Sanchize, as he was once dubbed, played five seasons with the Jets, spending the fifth one on the shelf due to injury, before being released in March 2014."With Sanchez, we just couldn't have it anymore," Ryan said. "The boneheaded interceptions, especially in the red zone, it was mind-boggling. Unfortunately, Mark never really got better. I think that was the disappointing thing to me."Sanchez finished his Jets tenure with as many interceptions as passing touchdowns. He's currently the Chicago Bears' third-string quarterback.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The San Francisco 49ers are following the trend set by fellow NFC West teams, moving former strong safety Eric Reid to linebacker to better fit their scheme and provide more flexibility. The Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals have had success shifting former safeties Mark Barron and Deone Bucannon, respectively.Reid is in the final year of his contract and is willing to do what the team asks so he can best contribute."This is my contract year, so when they broke the news to me, I wondered what the reasoning was to make the move," Reid said Thursday, according to Cam Inman of Mercury News. "They were open and honest with me, and told me they really believe it’s best for the team and I can really excel at the position."Reid was concerned about assuming a new position with no contract security, but after speaking with head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, the veteran understands it is in his best interest to give it his all."I asked them explicitly, 'Can you at least tell me if I’m going to be here next year to play this position?' They told me no," Reid said. "Right now I just trust the film I have at safety is good enough to enter free agency with, and now I’ll get some film at linebacker, as well."The move comes after the 49ers released former starting middle linebacker NaVorro Bowman following rookie Reuben Foster's return from injury. Reid was injured for three games this season and saw Jaquiski Tartt fill the spot with some success, compelling the 49ers to experiment with moving the veteran to a new position.Reid will compete with Ray-Ray Armstrong for the starting weak-side linebacker spot, and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh "wouldn't be surprised" if he wins the job.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Matt Williamson is a former scout for the Cleveland Browns and spent 10 years at ESPN as a scout and co-host of "The Football Today Podcast." Find him on Twitter @WilliamsonNFL.With nearly half a season of football in the books, some divisions have shone - and others have stumbled. Here are my divisional power rankings through the first seven weeks:1. AFC WestThis division not only has one of the few true contenders in the AFC, but their perceived bottom-feeder, the Los Angeles Chargers, have won three in a row. In fact, if the Chargers had a trustworthy kicker to start the season, they might be sitting at 5-2 or even 6-1. They are playing like a playoff team. Meanwhile, the Oakland Raiders could be right back in the mix after a huge victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. It isn’t inconceivable to picture Oakland getting back on the path many expected from them before the year started. As the season goes on, it is apparent the Denver Broncos are the AFC West’s most struggling squad, but compared to the weakest link in other division's, that isn’t too terrible.2. NFC EastThis is a strong group, even with the New York Giants at 1-6. New York played in a lot of close games and is a better team than their terrible record indicates. The top three teams should still have a lot of hope, although things are trending down for the Washington Redskins. The Dallas Cowboys need to keep Ezekiel Elliott on the field. If the Cowboys can, they look like serious playoff contenders. The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the NFL's top teams and look strong both for right now, and the future.3. NFC SouthGoing into the season, this looked like the NFL’s top division from top to bottom, but both the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been highly disappointing. The New Orleans Saints have made up for it with a revitalized defense, and currently are the class of the NFC South. It isn’t hard to envision the Falcons or Bucs rebounding in the second half of the season, though.Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers have a strong foundation and with a few improvements, could be back in the hunt in the NFC. It is rather shocking that the Saints are the only team in the division with a positive point differential, however.4. AFC EastWhen analyzing this division before the regular season, it sure looked like it would be the New England Patriots, a huge gap, the Miami Dolphins, another gap, and the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets in the hunt for a high draft pick. After some struggles, the Patriots look to be close to all the way back. That shouldn’t shock anyone. The Dolphins' offense has been a big problem, but the defense has played well. Still, it is rather amazing that Miami is currently over .500. As for Buffalo and the Jets, no one expected these two squads to be a combined 7-6 at this point of the season. Will that keep up? There is a better chance that the Bills stay competitive out of the two.5. NFC NorthThis division took a huge hit when the Green Bay Packers lost Aaron Rodgers. The Packers will be swimming upstream without him. The Rodgers injury could be a gift for the Minnesota Vikings, who have dealt with more than their share of injuries on offense. The Vikings' defense is superb, though, and they are certainly the favorite in the North. The Chicago Bears have zero passing game, but have still won three games on the back of an excellent defense and running game. But how sustainable is that? The Detroit Lions are a bit of a wild card and need to come back strong off their bye after losing two in a row. Detroit was winning early on when the defense took the ball away at an unsustainable rate; that has since returned to the mean.6. NFC WestThe San Francisco 49ers are in phase one of a massive rebuilding project, but have played most of their games competitively. Last week’s blowout loss to Dallas was concerning, nonetheless. Unfortunately, the Arizona Cardinals' season looks to be lost after first losing David Johnson, and then Carson Palmer. The Los Angeles Rams are a legitimately good football team. The offense has been totally rebuilt and the defense keeps improving. Los Angeles is also well coached. As usual, the Seattle Seahawks remain right in the thick of things. The Seahawks have won three in a row. They will be just fine.7. AFC NorthThe Pittsburgh Steelers have had a few hiccups, like every team in the league. But the defense looks vastly improved and there is loads of talent on both sides of the ball. This is their division. The Cincinnati Bengals started slow and just lost in Pittsburgh, but in a mediocre AFC, the Bengals' playoff hopes remain alive.Certainly that can’t be said about the Cleveland Browns, as they are clearly the worst team in football. The Baltimore Ravens' offense is abysmal; even though the Ravens sit at 3-4, their season looks close to being over already.8. AFC SouthIs there a true contender in the AFC South? The Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans are all .500 or better, but the answer to that question is most likely no. Jacksonville’s defense might be the best in the game and they have a distinct formula for winning, but the passing attack remains worrisome.Deshaun Watson is a great story and has sparked the team, but injuries have really hurt the defense. The Titans are about the definition of a league-average team and are somewhat disappointing overall thus far. If you take Cleveland out of the conversation, the Indianapolis Colts have as strong of a case as just about anyone to be the worst team in the NFL.(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. In the wake of increased protests during the national anthem earlier in the season, the NFL has been making an effort to reach across the aisle and open a dialogue with players regarding social justice reform. However, despite the recent owners-players meeting in New York, Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Russell Okung remains unimpressed by the league's efforts and what he calls a lack of action."I am disappointed that further progress has not been reached on discussions with the league," said Okung, who was among the small group of active players to attend the first meeting with the NFL, and who's scheduled to attend the upcoming ones - but could skip them - according to Adam Schefter of ESPN."NFL officials appear unmotivated and don't share the same sense of urgency," Okung added. "Increasingly, the meetings appear unproductive at best and disingenuous at worst. Furthermore, the ongoing disparagement of Colin Kaepernick is a factor needing remedy for the players and public to feel heard and for real progress to be made."In summary, Okung is frustrated that the NFL is talking the talk, but supposedly not walking the walk."I thought there were concrete plans to help," he said. "To my dismay, that wasn't true at all. It's only remained as just talking. There hasn't been any action."It's disappointing, because any time the NFL says it cares about something, like breast cancer awareness, domestic violence, concussions, it comes out in force. So far we haven't seen that."Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Jay Cutler will stand on the sidelines during the Miami Dolphins' matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, forced there by cracked ribs and in the wake of constant criticism. One thought will likely go through his head: "What am I doing here?"In a parallel universe, one where Ryan Tannehill's "ticking time bomb" of a knee didn't explode, Cutler would have spent Thursday preparing for his next assignment in the warm, comfortable commentary booth - a place where his call-it-like-I-see-it personality would have been adored, not constantly dissected. If you need proof of how quickly someone's reputation can flip and soar, just look at Tony Romo. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was always likable, but his charm never really mattered on the field. All that mattered was the late-game interceptions and the failure to make - and win in - the playoffs. Now, that's all forgotten. Romo is being universally praised for bringing a much-needed breath of fresh air into the booth, not to mention his ability to add a never-before-seen experience for fans by calling the plays before they happen.(Photo courtesy: Action Images)Yes, $15 million is a lot of money to turn down. But Cutler, even more than Romo, appeared done with the game of football when he hung up his cleats."I recently read a quote that struck a chord with me at the time. It was attributed to Henry Rollins (but with the internet these days, you can never be too sure who really said it)," Cutler said in his retirement statement in May. "I did that, I gave everything I had to give to that. Now, if I returned to that it would be repetition - it might be fun repetition, but it wouldn't be meaningful repetition."The Dolphins aren't 4-2 because of Cutler; in fact, they've been successful in spite of him. Matt Moore will start in his place Thursday, and after the backup quarterback led a dramatic comeback in relief of Cutler in Week 7, there's a good chance he bolsters the argument that he should have been the man to replace Tannehill all along. There are no winners in Cutler's return, except perhaps his bulging wallet. The Dolphins almost certainly would have been better off. NFL fans would have another Romo in the booth; less polished, for sure, but with a lack of filter that would've made for must-see TV. And Cutler wouldn't have had to endure another year of unnecessary hits, debates about his demeanor, and criticism for his play following a career in which those things appeared to take their toll on the divisive signal-caller.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Matt Ryan is tired of talking about 2016.The Atlanta Falcons came close to winning a Super Bowl last season thanks to potent offense, but this year is a different story - Ryan and company are struggling after losing three-straight games."We have to find a way for this team to play the way that we’re capable of as a team," Ryan said, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "We can’t worry about last year. I know that constantly gets brought up, but as players we are not thinking about last year. We are not playing good enough as a unit in 2017. Frankly, I don’t really care to go back to 2016. It’s not useful for us."The Falcons' offense looks nothing like it did under Kyle Shanahan in 2016, a year where they led the league with an average of nearly 34 points per game. Atlanta has only mustered 21.3 points this season, while struggling on third down and in the red zone."We’ve got to make those plays," Ryan said. "I believe that we will. We have done a good job in practice and I have the belief that will make plays when we get the opportunities in games. We just have to keep working on it."Things won't get any easier for Ryan and company to break out of this funk, as they'll play three of their next four games on the road, starting with a trip to New York to face the Jets on Sunday.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Joe Staley is one of the last remaining members of the 49ers teams that made it to three straight NFC Championship Games. But with San Francisco sitting at 0-7 and in the midst of a dramatic rebuild under head coach Kyle Shanahan, the veteran left tackle has been one of the names floated around as a possible trade candidate ahead of Tuesday's deadline. However, while Shanahan will listen to offers, he said Wednesday it would "take a whole lot" for the team to trade Staley."Joe is a guy that I definitely want here and definitely a guy I wouldn't want to lose by any means," Shanahan said, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. "I'm not going to sit here - if anybody called for any one of our players, it's not like you just hang up the phone. If people want to offer the world, you've always got to listen. You've got to always try to think what's going to help your team and make your team better."Staley hasn't performed up to his usual high standards this season, allowing four sacks in seven games. However, in a league desperate for top offensive line talent, there should be some teams interested in acquiring him - especially with a below-market contract that runs through the 2019 season.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. The pectoral injury has been an issue since the offseason, reports Albert Breer of MMQB.com.The pectoral was partially torn in March, which is why some of Hightower's other offers in free agency were pulled, added Breer. The already-struggling Patriots defense now has a major depth issue at inside linebacker, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see New England attempt to make a move ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.Hightower is the Patriots' leader on defense and one of the few upper-tier playmakers in the front seven. After a decent run of contests for Thursday Night Football, this week's matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens will likely bring everyone back down to earth. After opening the season with two straight wins, the Ravens have lost four of their last five and limp into Thursday's game after an eight-point loss to the Vikings on the weekend.Despite the fact they hold the league's second-worst offense, the Dolphins come in with three straight wins. The wager: Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens (-3)Miami will be without the services of Jay Cutler in this contest, as the starting pivot will miss the game due to a rib injury. Matt Moore came on in relief of Cutler this past weekend and threw two touchdowns in a 31-28 win over the Jets. While the veteran backup certainly won't blow anyone away with a potent passing attack, the drop-off from Cutler isn't overly significant. While the Ravens field the worst rushing defense in the league, Jay Ajayi comes in after totaling just 51 yards against the Jets last weekend. With little threat from the Dolphins' passing game, the Ravens should be able to stack the box and slow Ajayi down. The Baltimore offense has been horrific as of late, but will look for a big day from kicker Justin Tucker and the Ravens to just get past the three-point spread. T.J. Ward isn't used to splitting snaps with fellow safeties, and with his role reduced on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, it's taking some time to get used to things. The eighth-year pro lashed out after Sunday's loss, stating he didn't sign with the team to be used in rotation. After a few days to think about his words, Ward expressed regret over his comments."I should have kept a lot of my thoughts to myself," Ward said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. "I've been in this league (for a long time). This is my eighth year. I'm a fiery person and I wear my emotions on my sleeve. This is all brand new to me."Ward met with defensive coordinator Mike Smith after Sunday's comments, though neither would divulge what was said.
