Report: Chargers' Williams to make pro debut Week 6 vs. Raiders
The Los Angeles Chargers' first-round draft pick Mike Williams will make his NFL debut next week against the Oakland Raiders, barring any setbacks to his back injury, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.Williams missed the entire preseason and has been inactive for the first five weeks of the season due to a disc injury. The Chargers took the Clemson product with the No. 7 overall pick, but, for the second year in a row, have had to wait to use their top draft choice. Last season, No. 3 overall pick Joey Bosa missed the first week of the regular season due to contract talks and injuries.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Sunday storylines to follow in Week 5
With 12 games on the slate Sunday in Week 5, there are plenty of narratives to follow across the league, and even more from team to team. Here are this weekend's five most compelling storylines:Browns see product of 1-15 seasonIt's finally time to see what all the fuss is about, with Myles Garrett set to make his NFL debut. The Browns suffered long and hard last season to secure the right to draft Garrett first overall in hopes that he'd transform the defense into a fearsome unit.Garrett hopes to score at least one sack, which he refers to as "a fat guy's touchdown," against the Jets, who have had their quarterback brought down behind the line 12 times this season.0-4 no moreAt least one of the four teams sitting 0-4 will almost certainly get a win this weekend, and, at most, three can turn their fortunes.Unless the Giants and Chargers tie Sunday, one of them will walk out of MetLife Stadium with a victory. The Browns will host the Jets, who are astoundingly 2-2, while the 49ers will travel to Indianapolis to face Jacoby Brissett and the one-win Colts.Related: Manning-Rivers connection comes full circle SundayNone of these are expected to be good games, but at least there will be opportunities to climb out of the league's basement.Cowboys get shot at playoff revengeAlong with the games featuring a trio of teams hoping to be taken seriously after this weekend, Packers-Cowboys looks to be one of Week 5's must-watches. The Cowboys and Packers provided the only exciting game of the 2016 playoffs other than Super Bowl LI, and now it's time for the rematch.

Report: Mariota not expected to play vs. Dolphins
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is not expected to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins after being considered a game-time decision with a hamstring injury, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Matt Cassel, who replaced Mariota in last week's loss to the Houston Texans, will start in the third-year pro's absence. The Titans' chances take a major hit without Mariota, as Cassel completed just 4-of-10 passes last week, throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble. A.J. Green: Bengals firing OC 'woke everybody up'
It is not a coincidence the Cincinnati Bengals have appeared to recover from their early season offensive woes after replacing their offensive coordinator. After scoring just nine points and no touchdowns through their opening two games - both played at home - the Bengals have put up 55 points in their last two contests. Star receiver A.J. Green believes the change from Ken Zampese to Bill Lazor may have been necessary to snap the Bengals out of their funk."I think it woke everybody up," Green told SiriusXM NFL radio. "Everybody had to raise their level of play because we weren't getting the job done as a team."And whatever the changes were made, I always said that, 'Play-callers call the plays and the players should be able to run them.' And I'm sticking by that. Everybody got together and everybody had to elevate their game."Green saw his workload raised drastically in Lazor's first game calling plays, making 10 catches for 111 yards with a touchdown in Week 3 after putting up five grabs in each of the first two contests. The Bengals have a tough test coming their way with the Buffalo Bills' eighth-ranked defense, which has kept all of its opponents from scoring more than 17 points.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Chiefs' Peters: 'Nobody's gotta know my reason why I sit' out anthem
Kansas City Chiefs star cornerback Marcus Peters has been sitting out the national anthem since last September and he wants to set the record straight to those who criticize him for it.Peters recently came under fire for cursing at a fan who heckled him. The third-year pro has apologized for his remarks, though he doesn't feel his detractors know the real Peters, nor does he believe he needs to explain his decision to sit out the anthem."Nobody's gotta know my reason why I sit," Peters told Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. "Nobody's gotta know the reason why somebody chooses the religion they choose. Nobody's gotta know why I eat cereal instead of eating oatmeal in the morning."Peters feels like - as an American - it's his right to choose to sit or stand. He's not trying to create division with his actions, rather point to the fact that he's free to be his own person."I ain't trying to get into a back-and-forth conversation of me trying to prove that I'm not being disrespectful or that I am being disrespectful toward the American flag," Peters said. "Man … come on, man. I'm an American, bruh."I'm an African-American that was born in this wonderful country that we all can live in. How about we start all protecting each (expletive) other and come together, you feel me? It will be better for it."Peters' teammates say that the 24-year-old is misunderstood outside of the Chiefs locker room. He has shown leadership and accountability, and while some think his approach might create conflict, teammates appreciate Peters' bluntness."He's real, and he's honest," Linebacker Justin Houston said. "People on the outside of this locker room, they look at him and they may judge him. But everybody in this locker room knows who he is, and what he's about. And everybody in this locker room, they love the man. They ride for him."Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Miraculously, Davante Adams may not miss a game. The Green Bay Packers receiver took a vicious blow to his facemask during last Thursday's game against a Chicago Bears and had to be stretchered off the field. Yet, just nine days later, Adams has cleared concussion protocol and was allowed to fly with the team to Dallas, paving the way for him to play in Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports.Adams was taken to a hospital after the hit, but reported "feeling great" just a day later. Steelers' Bryant questionable vs. Jaguars due to illness
The Pittsburgh Steelers added receiver Martavis Bryant to their injury report Saturday with an illness and have marked him as questionable to play in Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. In four games and one start, Bryant ranks fourth on the team in receptions with 10 and second in yards with 183.The Steelers' offense has yet to get on track this season, and would sorely miss the dynamic receiver in a matchup against top-flight corners Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Manning-Rivers connection comes full circle Sunday
Eli Manning and Philip Rivers will forever be linked. The first two quarterbacks taken in the 2004 NFL Draft were traded for each other when Manning refused to play for the then-San Diego Chargers. So, after the Chargers took Manning with the No. 1 overall pick, they traded him to the New York Giants for Rivers.Since that day, the two have met on the field only twice. Their third meeting is Sunday amidst unforeseen circumstances.Manning and Rivers have led exceptional careers that may lead both to the Hall of Fame. They were expected to add to their cases in 2017 as the Giants were hailed as Super Bowl contenders while the Chargers were popular darkhorse picks to be in the conversation as well.Yet, both clubs enter Week 5 at 0-4, unfamiliar territory for the quarterbacks.Manning and Rivers enjoyed plenty of success during their first 13 seasons. They rank seventh and 11th, respectively, in career passing yards; sixth and ninth, respectively, in completions; and seventh and eighth in passing touchdowns. There's no need to look elsewhere for evidence the draftmates will remain connected."I think obviously you're always going to be linked," Rivers said this week. "I've gotten to know Eli a little bit over the years, and have always pulled for him and respected the career he's had. So yeah, it's always fun. I think he would probably say the same thing, you're not playing the other quarterback. But certainly he and I going back to that draft, you're always going to be linked."Rivers led the Chargers to the playoffs in four of his first six seasons as the team's starter. Across the country, Manning won Super Bowls in 2007 and 2011, being named MVP in both appearances.Though Manning has enjoyed more team success, he admitted to keeping an eye on his draft brethren, including No. 11 pick Ben Roethlisberger."In one way, I think you are always proud of your draft class, and you take some pride in your draft class and especially the other quarterbacks," Manning said this week, according to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times. "I guess after a few years you start seeing that Ben is doing well, and Phil is doing well and doing some good thing. I think you root for those guys in a sense, because you hope that your draft class will be talked about as a special one, and a lot of times they talk about the quarterbacks."They're now firmly in the back ends of their careers. The Giants drafted Manning's possible successor, Davis Webb, in this year's draft and Rivers has conceded the Chargers will likely do the same in short order. Both franchise quarterbacks turn 36 this year, another signal that their time at the helm is running short.Rivers has gotten the better of Manning the last two times they met. On Sunday, they'll have a unique opportunity to essentially end the other's season."I guess there's a chance, unless we both make it to that game in February, this could be the last time he and I play each other, who knows?" Rivers said. "I don't know if we'll both be rolling four years from now. We'll see, I guess."Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Raiders' Carr campaigning to play vs. Ravens
Derek Carr is expected to miss two-to-six weeks with a fracture in his back, but the Oakland Raiders quarterback got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday and is campaigning to play on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens."What all competitors would hopefully do," head coach Jack Del Rio said Friday, according to Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.Backup quarterback EJ Manuel has drawn the majority of first-team reps in practice this week and is expected to start in Week 5, but the Ravens aren't convinced Carr will be parked on the bench."For some reason, I won't believe it until I don't see him out there," Ravens safety Eric Weddle said, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. "I know what a competitor he is and he's a tough dude."I'll wait to fully commit. I hope he's out there, quite honestly. If he's not, we'll plan accordingly."Del Rio sounded more inclined to keep his franchise quarterback on the two-to-six-week timeline, making it possible Carr returns for next week's game against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. 3 teams that can prove they're for real with Week 5 wins
One month into the 2017 season, we're still trying to figure out which teams will vie for a postseason berth and which will need to keep an eye on the 2018 draft class.Three teams can provide convincing arguments they're in the former category with a victory over a tough opponent this week:Los Angeles RamsRecord: 3-1 | Week 5 game: vs. Seattle SeahawksThe Rams have given fans plenty of reasons to doubt their development, but their 3-1 record already stands one win shy of their entire 2016 output.Los Angeles' Week 1 decimation of the Colts was taken with a grain of salt, as Andrew Luck wasn't healthy enough to keep Indianapolis upright. In Week 2, Sean McVay faced the Redskins, his former team, and while the Rams took a close loss, the game was more about coaching than the players. The last two weeks have seen the Rams in shootouts with the 49ers and Cowboys, winning both contests and showing off impressive offensive firepower from Jared Goff and Todd Gurley. The Seahawks haven't put forth the defense fans have been used to seeing the last half-decade, but Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, and Bobby Wagner remain on the roster. If the Rams can top 30 points for the fourth time this season against Seattle's star-powered defense and get a win, it will be impossible for Los Angeles and the rest of the NFL to ignore them.Houston TexansRecord: 2-2 | Week 5 game: vs. Kansas City ChiefsThat first loss shouldn't really count for Houston. Those were Tom Savage's Texans - this is Deshaun Watson's team now.The Texans are coming off their highest point total in franchise history after tearing apart the Marcus Mariota-less Titans by a score of 57-14. Had it not been for some overly conservative coaching by Bill O'Brien in Week 3, Watson could have already scored a victory over Tom Brady and the Patriots, too.Houston had the best overall defense in the league last year, and has continued that trend in 2017. Through four games, the Texans have allowed an average of 291.5 yards per contest - fifth-least in the league - while dealing with injuries and suspensions among their starters.Facing the only undefeated team Sunday night in the Chiefs, Watson and the Texans will have a prime-time opportunity to show they're a legitimate playoff contender, and not just the benefactor of fortunate early-season scheduling.Carolina PanthersRecord: 3-1 | Week 5 game: at Detroit LionsAfter starting the season with two unconvincing wins over the 49ers and Bills, a Week 3 shutout loss to the Saints and their league-worst defense seemed to signal the Panthers were in a rut. Their most recent win, however, has vaulted them back into contention. While the Patriots' defense has given up at least 300 yards passing to every quarterback it has faced this season, they're still the Patriots, Bill Belichick is still their coach, and every time they lose, it's a big deal. The Panthers' Week 4 win could have been the result of them having the ball last in a 33-30 shootout, or a sign that this is a competitive team that stumbled out of the gate.Like last season, the Lions aren't beating the brakes off teams in 2017, but they've adapted well to each opponent and could have been undefeated had it not been for a botched call at the buzzer in Week 3. The Panthers will need to battle from whistle to whistle to take down Detroit in what could be their most substantial win this campaign.(Photos courtesy: Action Images)Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jameis Winston: I dream of being a QB like Tom Brady
Jameis Winston may have been a little star struck Thursday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback spoke to Tom Brady after losing to the New England Patriots and appeared to be in awe of the experience."I just said, 'It was an honor.' I told him thank you. A lot," Winston said, according to Jenna Laine and Mike Reiss of ESPN. "That's a blessing, man, to meet someone like that. I dream to be able to be the type of quarterback he is for his team to our team."Winston added that he grew up admiring Brady."Utmost respect for him," Winston added. "He's definitely an inspiration to me and the quarterback position, definitely. Like every young kid growing up with a football in their hand aspiring to be like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Montana - guys of that nature. It was a privilege and an honor to meet him, to look him in his eye, to shake his hand. It felt good. That was another highlight of my night."Brady seemed to enjoy the meeting as well."I feel that same way about a lot of younger players, too," Brady said. "I watch those guys and try to learn from them. When I was young, I learned from the older guys. And now that I'm older, I'm trying to learn from the young guys. He's a great young player and he obviously led the team back tonight, and they were very close. He's got a great future."Winston certainly has a long way to go to achieve everything Brady has accomplished in his career, but he seems to already possess the 40-year-old's competitive nature."I hate that he beat me, but he beats a lot of people," said Winston.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Hateful fans to Lions' Reeves-Maybin: 'I hope you get CTE' for protesting
Detroit Lions linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin has received some gut-wrenching hate mail from fans who disagree with his decision to protest during the national anthem. The 22-year-old rookie has not been welcomed to professional football warmly by some fans, though Reeves-Maybin says he's not letting them ruin his first year in the league."People are saying, like, 'I hope you get CTE,'" Reeves-Maybin told Kyle Meinke of MLive.com. "Or, 'I hope you can't play with your kids when you get done playing,' Stuff like that. But, yeah. It doesn't bother me."The fourth-round pick also confirmed that, like Washington Redskins receiver Terrelle Pryor, he has been the target of racial slurs.Related: Terrelle Pryor says he flipped off fan because of racist verbal attacks"Oh yeah, definitely," said Reeves-Maybin. "Yeah. All day. But, I mean, I can handle it."Lions owner Martha Ford had asked that all her team's players stand for the national anthem last week, though Reeves-Maybin and fellow linebacker Steve Longa felt that continuing to kneel was the correct course of action."I feel like the right thing for me to do is kneel," Reeves-Maybin said. "I really don't like the state of social inequalities and justices that go on here."I didn't want it to be about what President Trump said, and I felt like at the time, the week when you saw all the demonstrations, I feel like it more so made it about that and that's not the idea of what it should have been."Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Brown 'glad' Roethlisberger called him out
Antonio Brown knows his actions during last Sunday's sideline temper tantrum were wrong and he appreciates his teammate calling him out on it.After Ben Roethlisberger aired out the Pittsburgh Steelers' dirty laundry on a local radio station Tuesday, Brown did not take issue with his quarterback's decision to make the sideline details public."It's not about me. It's about the Steelers," Brown said Friday, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "We all make mistakes as players. Sometimes I might miss a read. I don't see Ben throwing me under the bus if I drop the ball or if I run the wrong route or didn't get my depth. I don't see him kicking the cooler. It's no excuse for my behavior."I'm glad (Roethlisberger) did what he did. He called me out. As a general of our team, he has every right to call anything out. … I'm just grateful we have a great leader who's forgiving and accommodating and willing to talk to me."Browns apologized for his actions via Twitter on Wednesday, a day after Roethlisberger's comments, as well as those of head coach Mike Tomlin challenging the receiver to "be a professional."Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. "It's special. It's like a fat guy's touchdown. But whatever I can do to affect the game and just be a helping hand for this defense, if we can just help get a win on this field, I'll do whatever I can, whatever that takes."Garrett says he's been warned by teammates not to try to do too much in his first game, and admits that he's a little nervous about meeting high expectations out of the gate, especially without being fully healed from his injury."Am I peak? Fantasy Fallout: Can Gallman bring value out of Giants' backfield?
New York Giants rookie running back Wayne Gallman is set to play a significantly larger role in Week 5 now that incumbent starter Paul Perkins has been ruled out versus the Los Angeles Chargers due to a rib injury.Gallman got his first taste of NFL playing time in the Giants' 25-23 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend. With Perkins plodding away at an average of 1.9 yards per carry this season, Gallman received 11 rushing attempts and gained 42 yards for an average of 3.8. He added 8 yards on two receptions. The Giants' active backfield for their fifth game of the season will be made up of Shane Vereen, Orleans Darkwa, and Gallman. Vereen will handle the majority of the passing-down work, but with just 12 rushing attempts on the season he shouldn't be much of a roadblock for Gallman. Darkwa has carried the ball just 13 times through three games.Gallman was a top waiver-wire addition coming out of his Week 4 debut, but he remains available in the vast majority of Yahoo! leagues. He's worth adding in all formats, while the projected starting role makes him worthy of RB2/FLEX consideration in standard scoring. Owners in PPR formats can keep him on the bench until he's able to create some separation from Vereen, who still played 28 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 4, according to Football Outsiders.Meanwhile, it's well past the time to drop Perkins in all formats.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Thursday Night Football ratings appear immune to boycotts from protest fallout
Fans seem to be having a hard time staying angry with the NFL.Just one week after peaceful protests by players during the pregame national anthem spurred cries for boycotts of games and a reported dip of nearly 600,000 average television viewers from Week 3, Week 5's sleep-inducing Thursday-nighter between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw a spike in viewership over the same time-slot last season, according to Frank Schwab of Yahoo!CBS reports that in combination with NFL Network, it saw a score increase of 26 percent from last season. The Patriots' 19-14 win over the Buccaneers earned an overnight rating share of 11.1/19, up from last year's Week 5 game between the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers which earned an 8.8/15 rating. It's certainly possible the Super Bowl champions were the cause for the boost over a game featuring two teams nearly out of playoff contention by Week 5 of last season, but it still managed to make fans forget how angry they were about teams kneeling or linking arms just two weeks before.Either way, the NFL will use their figures of the safe bottom line to veto cries from players to scrap the extra primetime contest.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't find it very "funny" that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton questioned whether women are fit to "talk about routes."Newton scoffed at a question from female reporter Jourdan Rodrigue on Wednesday, essentially questioning whether she was fit to speak on the subject of receivers and route-running.Shanahan took an opportunity Friday to defend women working in and around the sport of football."We definitely have a woman who talks about routes all the time," Shanahan said on KNBR's "Murph and Mac Show," according to Kirk Larrabee of 247 Sports. He was referring to Katie Sowers, the second full-time female coach in NFL history. Sowers is a seasonal offensive assistant for the Niners and, last year, worked with the team's wide receivers."Katie is a baller, 100 percent," Niners receiver Marquise Goodwin said of Sowers this summer. "She understands the game. She's very familiar with the game. She played in a women's league and it may be a little different, but she definitely has the attitude it takes to be in that room."Someone relay the message to Newton.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Pick or Pass? Who to take in your survivor pool in Week 5
After seven wins to start the season, the Buffalo Bills ended our perfect run with a shocking road upset of the Atlanta Falcons last week. While the Cincinnati Bengals cashed with a blowout of the Cleveland Browns, Matt Ryan couldn't overcome the loss of Julio Jones as the Falcons fell. With nine games sitting at a 4-point spread or less this week, picking two teams to score outright wins is a very difficult task, which is probably obvious by the two teams selected. Two teams to pickNew York GiantsIt's Week 5 and the New York Giants are somehow still winless. So why the heck are they getting a pick in this week's survivor pool? That's certainly a fair question, but the club has shown in recent weeks that they might be close to turning a corner. New York has lost its last two games by a combined five points, and the Eli Manning-Odell Beckham Jr. connection appears to be ready for an explosion.Indianapolis ColtsWhen the two teams selected for the Survivor Pool in Week 5 are a combined 1-7 on the season, it's pretty clear it's a very difficult week. Despite sitting 1-3 and starting Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, the Colts are the second pick this week to register an outright win. It's a risky play, but with the San Francisco 49ers coming to town, Indianapolis is actually favored in the contest. The scoreline of last week's loss in Seattle doesn't quite tell the full story as the Colts were close through almost three quarters of play. Look for Indianapolis to protect the ball and win a close one.Team to avoidKansas City ChiefsThe only undefeated team left heads to Houston to face red-hot rookie Deshaun Watson. The former Clemson star turned in a performance for the ages in a win over the Titans last week, throwing for four touchdowns and running for another. While the Chiefs defense certainly presents more of a challenge, Watson will be up to the task and give them fits. The Texans pass rush should threaten Alex Smith, and that alone makes the Chiefs a bad pick this week.Record: 7-1
Jets' Forte still sidelined; Powell, McGuire to continue sharing backfield work
New York Jets running back Matt Forte remains out for a second consecutive game, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.Forte will miss the Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns, as he continues recovery from a toe injury suffered in the Week 3 victory over the Miami Dolphins.Bilal Powell is expected to receive the start and handle the majority of the work in the backfield, while rookie Elijah McGuire will serve as the complement.McGuire set career highs with 10 rushing attempts, 93 rushing yards, two receptions, and 38 receiving yards with his first NFL touchdown in Week 4. The sixth-round pick out of the 2017 draft has been showing promise as the future of the Jets run game with an average of 6.8 yards per carry on the year.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Madden 18 player ratings update analysis: Week 5
Every week, theScore's football editors will take a deep dive into the rating changes from the Madden 18 video game, looking at the most notable risers and fallers based on the previous week's action.RisersAmeer Abdullah, RB, Lions79 overall ➔ 82 overallAbdullah's coming off his best game of the season in which he racked up 94 rushing yards on a season high of 20 carries. He was able to find the end zone for the first time all season and added an additional 15 yards on three receptions. A 29-yard run was his third play of more than 20 yards in the past three weeks.Kareem Hunt, RB, Chiefs81 overall ➔ 84 overallHunt has topped 100 total yards in all four games thus far, with Week 4 being his third 100-yard rushing game of the season. He was kept without a touchdown for the first game all year, but that's of little concern as he continues to defy opposing defenses in all areas of the field.Tyvon Branch, S, Cardinals82 overall ➔ 87 overallBranch recorded another nine combined tackles in Week 4, bringing his season total to a monstrous 39. He's the highest ranked of all qualified safeties, according to Pro Football Focus.Ken Crawley, CB, Saints74 overall ➔ 78 overallCrawley's been a major part of an improving Saints defense, compiling 12 combined tackles over the past two weeks and snatching his first interception of the season against Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler in Week 4. The Saints held the Dolphins and Carolina Panthers to a total of 13 points in Crawley's first two games of the season.Ryan Grant, WR, Washington70 overall ➔ 73 overallGrant's second touchdown of the season showed the trust quarterback Kirk Cousins has - and gamers should have - in the 6-foot receiver. While Grant has caught just 10 of 15 targets on the season, he's matched the touchdown total of all other Washington wide receivers.FallersMarshawn Lynch, RB, Raiders87 overall ➔ 84 overallLynch has been held below 20 rushing yards in each of his past two games, and he remains with just one touchdown on the season. He also amassed only 15 rushing attempts over the past two weeks, but his usage should spike with EJ Manuel now under center for the Raiders.Joey Bosa, DE, Chargers86 overall ➔ 82 overallExpected to be the focal point of what was supposed to be a strong Chargers defense this season, Bosa is representative of the unit's struggles through four games. His 2.5 sacks through the quarter pole of the season have him on pace to match his rookie total, but he ranks just 61st among all qualified PFF edge defenders.Vontae Davis, CB, Colts86 ➔ 82Davis failed to make an impact on the Colts' defense in his first game of the season. He made six tackles but did little else while being part of a unit that allowed 46 points to the Seattle Seahawks.Paul Posluszny, LB, Jaguars85 overall ➔ 80 overallAfter racking up more than 130 combined tackles in each of the past two seasons, Posluszny is at just 12 through four games. The improved play of the Jaguars' defense as a whole is lessening the workload of the longtime stalwart, but it's having a negative impact on his rating.Keanu Neal, S, Falcons80 overall ➔ 77 overallNeal is rightfully being punished with his share of the blame for the underperforming Falcons defense. The second-year safety has defended just one pass while on a 16-game pace for 96 combined tackles.(Photos courtesy: Action Images)Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Eagles' Cox to miss 2nd week with calf injury

He'll also be sidelined for a matchup with the Arizona Cardinals and their 11th-ranked offense.Pederson added that running back Wendell Smallwood is questionable for the contest due to a knee injury and will be a game-time decision.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. Giants' Perkins ruled out vs. Chargers
The New York Giants have ruled running back Paul Perkins out for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The designation opens the door for rookie Wayne Gallman to make his first career start.Perkins injured his ribs last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gallman filled in after the injury and carried the ball 11 times for 42 yards and added a 4-yard touchdown reception. After four games, Perkins has just 61 rushing yards on a paltry 1.9 yards per carry. Backups Orleans Darkwa and Shane Vereen have been equally as ineffective for the second-worst rushing attack in the league.Center Weston Richburg has also been ruled out due to a head injury. The Giants and Chargers both hope to record their first victory of the season on Sunday.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Watch: Jimmy Kimmel spoofs Chargers' attendance woes
Attendance figures aren't yet available for the Los Angeles Rams or Chargers, but a simple eye test while watching their home games reveals plenty of empty seats. The cast and crew of ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" are doing their part to bump ticket sales by creating a new promotional commercial for the Chargers to use, as they've been unable to fill the 27,000-seat StubHub Center. The spoofed advertisement turns the stadium into the setting of 'self-guided relaxation retreats,' where guests are free to make quiet phone calls without worrying about disturbing others. The facility boasts an abundance of available parking spots. The NFC West-leading Rams, powered by the NFL's highest-scoring offense, are proof that winning doesn't necessarily draw crowds, after they ranked 31st in average home attendance last season while going 4-12. Their tickets sales have reportedly fallen by an average of 26,000 seats, according to Kimmel.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Report: 49ers' Foster to miss 4th straight game with ankle injury
San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Reuben Foster has been declared out for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, head coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR 680, according to Cam Inman of the Mercury News.Foster was carted off the field in the season opener - his first career game - with a high ankle sprain and hasn't played since.Shanahan added that Foster and safety Eric Reid, who is out with a knee injury, could both practice next week and return to game action in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins.Ray-Ray Armstrong has stepped into the starting lineup in Foster's absence.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. What to expect from Myles Garrett in his Browns debut
Matt Williamson is a former scout for the Cleveland Browns and spent 10 years at ESPN as a scout and co-host of "The Football Today Podcast." Find him on Twitter @WilliamsonNFL.At 1-15, the Cleveland Browns were the worst team in the NFL last year and earned the first overall pick. This year, they look every bit as bad and it's difficult to dispute that they remain the worst team in the league after a month of games. Not only are the Browns winless, but only the Indianapolis Colts have been outscored by a greater margin than Cleveland. But there is some good news on the horizon. With that No. 1 pick in the 2017 draft, Cleveland selected ultra-prospect Myles Garrett. After injuring his ankle leading into opening week, Garrett was sidelined for the first four weeks of the season. But he's expected to debut against the New York Jets on Sunday - and that's truly exciting news for Browns fans.Of course it will be great to watch and evaluate Garrett in live action during the regular season, but what do we think the Browns have in this 21-year-old? The short answer is: The best edge defender prospect to enter the NFL since Julius Peppers. Garrett has superstar written all over him.Evaluating Garrett can be somewhat mundane because the reality of it is that he simply has everything you look for in a premier defensive end. Garrett is 6-foot-4 and plays in the 270-pound range, but ran a 4.64 40-yard dash. And get this: He jumped 41 inches in the vertical and 120 inches in the broad jump. In case you aren't on top of such things, those are insane results. And the thing is, Garrett plays that fast and explosive on tape. And Garrett's agility is truly rare. He has speed, power, fluid and violent change of direction, as well as an ability to anchor versus the run, although that isn't his specialty. Garrett also is a very good tackler when run at, in pursuit, or when putting a quarterback on the ground. He's an elite specimen that mostly plays up to that extreme talent even though he was dealing with a knee injury during his final season at Texas A&M. His hustle during that campaign probably could have been better, but we are nitpicking a little there. He could stand to work on his hand placement and ability to string pass-rush moves together after his first attempt fails. Those things should come before long if he takes to coaching at this level.Only six teams have fewer sacks than Cleveland through four weeks - and two of them, Miami and Tampa Bay, have played one fewer game than the Browns. Garrett should be a very welcome addition to say the least. This young man has Pro Bowl written all over him. Many Pro Bowls, in fact.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Koetter noncommittal on Folk's future with team after 3-miss game
Roberto Aguayo may not be the only kicker let go by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season. After Nick Folk missed three crucial field goals in the Buccaneers' 19-14 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday, head coach Dirk Koetter told reporters that he and general manager Jason Licht briefly discussed the struggling kicker and that the pair will continue to do so as the week goes on."That'll be something that will be forthcoming," Koetter said about Folk's future with the team, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. "We don't want to make any rash decisions."Folk, who also missed two kicks the week before, failed to convert from 34, 31, and 56 yards out against the Patriots, essentially costing the Buccaneers a win."I left points out there. We should have won the game 20-19," Folk told reporters after the loss. "This one's on me."Folk had been brought in during the offseason to compete with former second-round pick Aguayo for the team's starting kicker job. After out-dueling Aguayo in the preseason, Folk may have done himself in after struggling early this season.Copyright © 2017 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved.
