Wear Rider for Android Wear is a real road trip
Not all apps or games on Android Wear blow you out of the water, especially with the hundreds upon hundreds of apps available in the Google Play Store. Wear Rider from Teensy Studios is a free game that has a lot of promise to be an awesome, engaging and fun game. The issues that it has are enough to almost make it not worth it though. Wear Rider has a simple premise, made to be played for fun. You ride a motorbike down the highway, weaving through traffic to avoid the other vehicles on the road. If you run into one of them, the game will end. It's simple, but definitely addictive even with the issues that the app definitely has.

With journalists and activists jailed and a new terrorism law in effect, a culture of fear is growing in EgyptThe blast shook buildings for miles around. Sleeping residents awoke, called each other, then stared at glowing screens, seeking an explanation for the explosion and the sirens wailing in the distance.Last Thursday a massive car bomb had detonated outside a security building in Shubra Al-Khaima, a working-class district on Cairo’s northern edge. Chunks of concrete had been blasted off the building, shards of glass were sprinkled across the pavement. The windows of the neighbouring apartment building had been blown out, the private spaces of the families within flung open to the street. Continue reading...
Mobile Nations Weekly: Note 5, BlackBerry doing Android, and Apple Music: The Book
It's been a great week in mobile tech, and this is your look back at it all! Last week saw the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and this week saw Android Central's definitive review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and as you might expect, it's a great device for the Android crowd. But the more interesting Android news came out of the CrackBerry camp, with new renders that all but confirm that BlackBerry's upcoming Venice slider will run Android — in the same week as the BlackBerry 10-powered Passport Silver Edition saw its own review. It's a mad mad world. On the other side of things, iMore released the comprehensive guide to Apple Music. And as Windows 10 hits millions more PCs around the globe, Microsoft unleashed a new preview build of upcoming improvements on the world and a Slack beta for Windows Phone finally got a wide release. There's all that and more in this edition of Mobile Nations Weekly!
Stay on schedule using Alarm for Android Wear
Not all of us have what you'd call 'great time management' skills, and everybody has lost track of time here and there. Still, it's generally a frustrating experience, and one that can be helped. Alarm for Android Wear brings a well designed alarm to your Smartwatch. With multiple alarms, the ability to add, modify, and delete alarms, and all from your Android Wear device. Alarm for Android Wear is definitely a handy app, and it does decently job of making sure that alarms are set when—and how you need them. When you open the app on your Smartwatch you are greeted by a plus sign in a circle at the top of your screen labeled New Alarm. Above it is a horizontal navigation bar. Everything about this app is fairly cut and dry, with what you need laid out intuitively. Swipe left from the main screen, and you'll get the config menu. This is where you can adjust things like your alarm duration, snooze delay, and adjusting from a 24 hour format to a 12 hour format. Each option will open up it's own screen so that you can make sure the alarm settings are to your preference.

Street Art Watch Faces bring a different aesthetic to Android Wear
If you've ever spent much time in a city, you've probably seen murals or other street art that breaks up the monotony of building after building. In cities all over the world, artists turn brick and mortar walls into works of art. With that in mind the Google Art Project has given us the Street Art Watch Face for Android Wear. The Street Art Watch Face revolves around the pieces of art developed by a variety of artists. The watch face moves from one piece to the next at the beginning of the hour. While the app isn't filled with tons of options, you can see the care that was put into what is available. The colors of the actual time display stand out from the artwork, without taking away from each individual piece. There are three distinct ways to display the time on your Smartwatch. The default is to have an analog display, clean and easy to read with a hour, minute, and second hand on the clock. The digital display gives you bold numbers at the bottom of your screen. Your third choice is a minimal display. You get a simple circle for your clock, with two beads to display the hour and minute. It might take an extra moment to decipher the time, but it's definitely minimal enough that you can easily enjoy the artwork.

Stay on track with the Driver Watch Face on Android Wear
Accessing all the info you need by just glancing down at your Android Wear device saves you time everyday. The Driver Watch Face gives you the time, date, and two readouts of the time along with 3 customizable widgets for the rest of your info. Combined with a design that gives you options, it's got undeniable style. The Driver Watch Face has a clean, and fairly simple design. The top of your screen has 3 widgets, all of which can be adjusted in the settings. The bottom right quarter gives you the battery readout for your Smartwatch, a digital readout of the time, and the date. The rest of the watch face is analog, with a second counter around the edges. From your watch there aren't many editing options. The ability to change colors is all you get. All of the real settings are available only through your phone. Your options are all on the same vertically scrolling menu, with a preview of what the watchface will look like with your changes. Driver Watch Face is jam packed with options, so that you can adjust things until they are a perfect fit. As far as appearance goes you can change the background of the watch, the dials that hold the widget info, the type of hands on the analog face, and the color of the borders, background and text. Those are just the beginning.

The Android-powered BlackBerry Venice slider is starting to look real
For months now, there have been rumors that BlackBerry is working on an Android-powered device but until recently, there was very little evidence to back those rumors up outside of a single render provided by @evleaks. Since the initial rumors began, the folks at CrackBerry have been tracking blurry cam images, as well as a bunch of renders, which all appear to point to an Android powered BlackBerry becoming a real thing. This is the latest on what we know, what we don't know, and what we think.

Irish Airport Security Bravely Defends Plane From Toddler's Fart-Gun
Here at Techdirt, we've had a great deal of fun at the expense of the TSA and the agency's wonderful brand of security theater masquerading as actual airport security. Yes, the government putting on a kind of clinic in the simultaneous overreach into civil liberties for false security and the kind of wasteful government spending that makes the conservative talkshow hosts of the world dip back into the Oxy has been an ongoing source of entertainment. But the TSA can take the same kind of heart that thousands of purported UFO abductees do: you are not alone.

Travel through time with Fist of Awesome on Android TV
If you've ever looked at a 2D side scrolling fighter game and wished there was a mode in which you could punch bears, your wish has been granted. You can now play a time traveling lumberjack tasked with saving the world by punching one bear right after another. We know, it sounds ridiculous, and it absolutely is. Even better, Fist of Awesome is available to be played on Android TV. Fist of Awesome is the story of Tim, a Lumberjack who sort of falls into adventure. By adventure we mean that he loses his family, his house is set on fire, and he finds a single weapon against the evil bears and other fauna of ill intent — the Fist of Awesome. This Fist is alive and aware, explaining that Tim is no longer where he was. In this world, Bears rule and they are not fans of humans. Tim must now travel through time punching bears in the face to fix the timelines. You travel through the woods, the city of Bearhattan, and a cave filled with dinosaurs and prehistoric bears in the year 10,000 B.C. Those are just the first few levels! When you aren't punching bears, the game is filled with puns and jokes from Tim and the Fist alike. The rest of the gameplay is fairly standard 2D action. You combat your enemies by punching them, kicking them, using special powers, or flying leaps. The graphics are pixelated, but it really does just add to how over the top, ridiculous, and dare we say awesome this game really is.
