pipedot is....alive? found an old reference on soylentnews and thought I'd take a look. No pipedot is dead and waiting for the hosting contract to run out.

So, you're saying you only read it for the RSS. Perhaps what this place needs is a lolcat forum? Then people can come here just for the pictures.
The linked article has interesting information about the different approaches to building applications for mobile devices... but we need more than just a hyperlink as the story.
In the case of Sierra Leone elections, the system built by Agora allows the voters who are registered within the system to see these public ledgers but only authorized people can make any changes, thus reducing the chances of fraud since the information is available to all blockchain users enrolled in the system. The agencywhich enabled the elections with blockchain,Agora, a Swiss foundation offers digital voting solutions and uses a permitted blockchain. Agora monitored the manual votes cast in the western district, the most populous, of the country, using the technology.
Haven't looked over here in some time, but I'm a very happy user of the Pipedot RSS page -- thank you for keeping it going.
On SoylentNews: > ... Just HuffPo with user comments... This seems a little harsh to me. I'm seeing plenty of tech articles there, but often they don't draw many comments (or only draw off-topic comments). On the down side, there are a few high volume posters who take standard sides in "political" discussions. But the number of interesting AC posts are still fairly high.
IMHO the green site is utterly worthless at this point. Most articles are politics and flame bait. The few technical articles are massively inaccurate. The discussion is nothing of value EXCEPT for the handful of people who explain why the article is BS.
The red site was never what I wanted. It's not a tech site, or particularly intelligent at all. Just HuffPo with user comments...
To get a little fix of tech news I hit up The Register, but something has really been lost in the downfall of /. and the failure of anybody else to fully pick up the torch and run with it. I certainly haven't been commenting anywhere, and I'm sure many thousands of other knowledge people are keeping their insights to themselves these days, too. A real shame.
With the red site doing well, and even the green site getting bought out by a new benevolent dictator, the need for another alternative has diminished considerably. If the other two sites self destruct or start a new "beta" fiasco, I'm sure we'll get some some renewed interest - but for now, yes, we are sleeping. I still use the site quite a bit every day to read RSS feeds so the site is definitely not dead. I also have a pretty big backlog of code changes to push up (probably around the release of the next Ubuntu LTS in April.)
Of course, I would not be opposed to a new editor volunteering and posting some fresh stories. Send me a message if interested!
"Australian farmers will be able to sell more beef, cheese, wheat and rice to Japan and more sugar to Canada and Mexico."
The Greens are still against it: "The original deal gave multinationals the power to override the will of the Australian people by allowing corporations to sue governments, even when a government is acting in the interest of the community," the party's trade spokeswoman Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said. "It has no protection for local content and Australian creative industries. If this zombie TPP is anything like what was originally proposed, it should have been left dead, buried and cremated."
"Australia's national income would eventually be 0.5 per cent higher, a gain of less than half of one-tenth of a per cent per year."
That's not much considering the cost. "enforced protections for the owners of pharmaceutical patents and extensions to copyright law." which is what America wants as it moves away from primary industries.

We could do with a sandpit. Thanks for pointing it out
That would certainly block incoming data to the phone at that moment, but what's to stop software on the phone logging undesired information locally for later upload next time you do use it? OK you could monitor the memory and card free space but some data could still be stored in an existing fixed length file.
Me too, I think the author here has done a fabulous job of the site, we just need a constructive community to move in and build up the submissions and comments.
To put this level of noise and power in perspective our fast dry hand dryers (in around 10 seconds) have a decibel level that never goes above 75. 80 is pretty load and powerful!
despite initial enthusiasm for Apple Pay, persuading US consumers to switch from using physical cards or cash to using Apple Pay has been tough going. A recent survey found Apple Pay use was declining.
I love that this story has more posts. Slashdot is unbearable these days, and I've always held a candle for Pipedot, with fingers crossed that it gains more readers, more stories, and more comments...
Posting this as I am happy to hear that the 3.5mm jack will stay, ambivalent about USB-C, worried about not being able to replace a mobile phone battery or take it out for a force reset if need be, and seriously annoyed with smart phones with virtual buttons in the past. They are a pain in the ass, the touch screen eventually dies, the physical button isn't accidentally triggered, and there must be a market out there for people who like the three physical buttons?
Or never. That link is now dead. Or the ACT government has been dismantled. Or the ACT government is highly dysfunctional. It could be anything really.
You can also set each team to start with different specific weapons if you want to test a theory that you could defeat a well equipped military force with your bolt action rifle or crossbow.
That's... cool.
Download is an ISO, which is different for Linux games. A torrent would be good - few trust SourceForge these days.
Consider writing an article about the Linux Game Database - https://lgdb.org/ - because some of us have not ever seen this before
Did the porn companies do something in particular? All I can see in recent news is the PornHub/Boston deal. I'm not entirely sure people got screwed on that one, but they definitely got plowed.
