Dak Prescott props: Is the Cowboys QB due for regression in 2020?
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is coming off the best season of his career after throwing for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns. Following such a strong year, Prescott's 2020 props are set high by oddsmakers. Will Dak's upward trend continue or is he due for a regression? We break down his 2020 player props to find out.Passing yardsOver Under4400.5 (-110)4400.5 (-110)Prescott shattered this total by over 500 yards last season, so it may seem like an easy over. However, Dak had failed to reach 4,000 yards in his first three seasons and he attempted 592 passes in 2019 - by far a career high.Including Prescott, only five quarterbacks topped this total last season. But new Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is a pass-first guy and Dallas added another weapon when the team drafted receiver CeeDee Lamb. The trio of Lamb, Amari Cooper, and Michael Gallup gives Prescott one of the NFL's most talented trio of receivers. This number is right on the money for Prescott. He certainly has the supporting cast to hit the over, but in the last two years, only nine quarterbacks have eclipsed this total. Expect a slight regression from Prescott in 2020, as he falls short of 4,400 yards.Pick: UnderPassing touchdownsOver Under27.5 (-115)27.5 (-105)Dak went over this total last year with 30 passing touchdowns, but again, that was easily his career high. Over his first three seasons, Prescott posted 23, 22, and 22 touchdowns, respectively. Dak was one of only four quarterbacks to surpass this number last season, but 10 threw for 29 or more TDs in 2018. If you go back to McCarthy's days with the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers threw a lot of short touchdown passes inside the red zone. That could be the deciding factor here with Prescott.Prescott also has room for improvement in this category. He ranked 12th in touchdown percentage last season, which is the percentage of touchdowns when attempting a pass. Look for Prescott's career trajectory of touchdown passes to continue rising as he throws for 30+ in 2020.Pick: OverMost regular-season passing yardsPlayer OddsPatrick Mahomes+500Dak Prescott+650Matt Ryan+800Philip Rivers+850Tom Brady+950Jared Goff+1000Matthew Stafford+1200Ben Roethlisberger+1300Drew Brees+1300Russell Wilson+1800Aaron Rodgers+1900Baker Mayfield+1900Carson Wentz+1900Jimmy Garoppolo+2200Deshaun Watson+2200Kyler Murray+2500Odds for players +2500 and shorterHere is where Prescott is overvalued. While he finished second in passing yards last season behind Jameis Winston, keep in mind he posted career-best numbers; Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, Drew Brees, and Ben Roethlisberger all missed time with injuries. Prescott may be in the mix again this season, but his odds are too short given the stiff competition. Fade Prescott in favor of players with longer odds like Jared Goff, Baker Mayfield, and Deshaun Watson.Thomas Casale is theScore's supervising editor of sports betting. Saints seeking new naming rights partner for Superdome in 2021
The New Orleans Saints are seeking a new naming rights partner for the Superdome as their agreement with Mercedes-Benz will expire in July 2021."The agreement is not being renewed, based on Mercedes-Benz having other opportunities," Saints' senior vice president of communications Greg Bensel told NOLA.com's Jeff Adelson. "Mercedes-Benz has been an excellent partner for our team, the building, and our region. We could not have asked for a more well-respected global company to have as our inaugural naming rights partner.""The Mercedes-Benz Superdome is a globally iconic building that brings a tremendous valuable future for a naming rights partner," Bensel added. "As with the philosophy of the Saints organization and the stature of the building, it will serve to represent our city, state, and region as a leader to better our community, to be a more than just a naming rights opportunity, but a real partner, just as Mercedes-Benz was. And in that partnership, the goal will be to bring positive change."Mercedes-Benz signed a 10-year deal with New Orleans in 2011 but a split between the two sides appeared likely after the German company inked a 27-year naming rights contract with AMB Group, parent company of the Atlanta Falcons, for its new stadium in 2017.The 45-year-old building has been home to numerous high-profile sporting and non-sporting events since opening as the Louisiana Superdome in 1975.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Fitzpatrick excited to work with Tua: 'I'm his biggest cheerleader'
This season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will face yet another challenger who's aiming for his starting job.Though Fitzpatrick surprisingly led the Dolphins to five wins in 2019, Miami drafted his potential replacement in Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in April.Instead of going on the defensive, the 15-year veteran is welcoming Tua with open arms."I'm excited. I'm excited that they drafted him," Fitzpatrick said on former teammate Eric Wood's podcast, according to Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "I'm excited because I watched him play at Alabama and he looks like he's a pretty dynamic talent. Just in meeting him a few times, he seems like an unbelievable kid with a great head on his shoulders."Fitzpatrick has faced competition for the starting QB job at almost all of his eight NFL stops. And while the 37-year-old is in Tagovailoa's corner, he acknowledged that the rookie's presence clouds his own NFL future."I'm his biggest cheerleader right now, but I also want to be out there playing," Fitzpatrick said.Fitzpatrick added that he's always willing to share his years of NFL experience with first-year players."The other thing in bringing a new guy in that I always try and impress right away on these guys is: I am here," he said."Again, zero ego, I have so much knowledge. I've made so many mistakes in this league, in terms of dumb decisions and throws. I've learned how to prepare, I've learned so much about offenses and defenses and the way guys operate. Ask questions. Like, I'm an open book. Ask me whatever you want."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Browns' Stefanski: 'I've been very impressed with how smart Baker is'
New Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski likes what he's seen and heard from quarterback Baker Mayfield so far this offseason."(We are) texting almost every day, he's doing a nice job in the program," Stefanski said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "He's spending a lot of time virtually with (offensive coordinator) Alex Van Pelt, and we're just teaching him the system."He's a really bright football player. I've been very impressed with how smart Baker is. He knows that he has to improve off of last year, and that message of improvement is the same for every single one of our players. We want to get guys that are eager to take a step forward and Baker completely understands that."Stefanski is making his head coaching debut in 2020 after spending the last 14 seasons on the Minnesota Vikings' coaching staff. Meanwhile, Van Pelt was named offensive coordinator after two seasons as Cincinnati's quarterbacks coach. The new head coach believes those changes are putting Mayfield in a good position to overcome all the criticism he received last year."You have an opportunity, as we build a new system, an opportunity to do something where he's going to be out there in front," Stefanski added. "I said this earlier, but it's the truth, you get a lot of the credit and then you get a lot of the blame, that's just the nature of the beast. I think he understands that completely, and I think he'll be ready to go."After tossing 27 touchdowns against 14 interceptions in 14 appearances as a rookie, Mayfield saw his numbers regress as a sophomore, throwing 22 scores against 21 picks in 16 games. The 2018 first overall pick also completed just 59.4% of his pass attempts in 2019, which ranked 26th in the NFL (minimum 300 attempts).Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL doctor: There will be positive cases, challenge is preventing spread
Find out the latest on COVID-19's impact on the sports world and when sports are returning by subscribing to Breaking News push notifications in the Sports and COVID-19 section. The NFL continues preparations for the 2020 season in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The league's chief medical officer, Dr. Allen Sills, held a conference call Tuesday in which he admitted there will likely be positive cases during the season."We fully well expect we will have positive cases that arise," Sills said, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "Our challenge is to identify them as quickly as possible and prevent them from spreads to any other participants."While the league is still putting together its testing plan, Sills expects testing and treatment will evolve and improve before the football season begins."We will likely be in a very different place 30 days from now, 60 days from now, than we are now," Sills added, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.NFL facilities were allowed to begin reopening Tuesday, but the return of players to those facilities will be determined by testing, test availability, and reliability, Sills said. He wouldn't put a timeline on when that would take place or if training camps and minicamps will be held this summer."Obviously, football and physical distancing (are) not compatible," Sills said, per Pelissero.New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton tested positive for the coronavirus in March, while Denver Broncos pass-rusher Von Miller tested positive in April.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Pennsylvania governor chastises Big Ben for barbershop visit
Ben Roethlisberger shared a video Monday of himself celebrating his return to health from a season-ending elbow injury by throwing to teammates and then cutting his hair and woolly beard. The end of the video, which showed the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback getting his hair and beard cut at a barbershop, drew criticism from Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf on Tuesday.During his daily briefing, Wolf said no Pennsylvanian should take such a chance at this stage of recovery from the coronavirus pandemic."My concern is just a general concern," Wolf said, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "Anybody who puts himself or herself into harm's way is something that I think we have to try to avoid. When you go to something like a barbershop and you're not protected, I don't care who you are, the chances of that virus actually wreaking havoc on your life increases."Many of the local Pennsylvania counties are in the "yellow" phase of reopening, according to Pryor. Barbershops can't open until those counties move into the "green" phase.Roethlisberger had said he wouldn't cut his hair or beard until he was able to throw to teammates again, which prompted Monday's viral video.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Baker, Dunbar plead not guilty to all charges in armed robbery case
New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker pleaded not guilty to all eight charges tied to an incident last week in Miramar, Florida, according to court documents obtained by NJ.com's Darryl Slater.Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar, who was also involved, entered the same plea for his four armed robbery charges on Tuesday, his attorney told ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.Baker is facing four counts of armed robbery and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. The 22-year-old's lawyer, Bradford M. Cohen, entered the written plea to Broward County Circuit Court on Monday. Future hearing dates have yet to be set, according to court records. The two players are accused of stealing money and watches while holding firearms, according to the arrest warrant. Multiple witnesses allege that Baker ordered another suspect wearing a red mask to shoot an individual who entered during the incident, according to the affidavit.New York's 2019 first-round pick turned himself in to the Miramar Police Department in Florida on Saturday, and Dunbar did the same afterward. Baker was ordered to surrender his carry permit and firearm upon his release on Sunday. The young cornerback's representation is maintaining its client didn't commit a crime. Patrick G. Patel, Baker's attorney for NFL matters, told Slater "This kid is not guilty."The Giants recently told the sophomore cornerback to stay away from virtual team meetings for now to focus on his legal issues.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: NFL owners table proposal to incentivize minority hirings
NFL team owners tabled during a virtual meeting Tuesday the resolution to incentivize minority hirings of coaches and general managers with improved draft picks, a source told Jim Trotter of NFL.com.The proposal was met with a mixed response, and it appears the league will look to reevaluate and amend it before putting it to a vote in the future.
NFL confirms Rooney Rule enhancements
The NFL announced Tuesday enhancements to the Rooney Rule.Clubs will now be required to interview at least two external minority candidates for head coaching jobs, one minority candidate for any coordinator vacancies, and one external minority candidate for senior football operations or general manager positions."The NFL is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which I believe is critical to our continued success," commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "While we have seen positive strides in our coaching ranks over the years aided by the Rooney Rule, we recognize, after the last two seasons, that we can and must do more."The policy changes made today are bold and demonstrate the commitment of our ownership to increase diversity in leadership positions throughout the league."NFL owners reportedly tabled the resolution to incentivize minority hirings of coaches and general managers with improved draft picks during their meeting Tuesday. They also approved changes to the league's anti-tampering policy, including amendments to prevent teams from blocking position coaches from interviewing for outside coordinator positions. The Rooney Rule will now also apply to a wide range of executive positions.Teams and the league office must now include minority and female applicants in the interview processes for senior-level front office positions. Those include roles such as club president and executive positions in communications, finance, human resources, legal, and football operations departments. The Rooney Rule, established in 2003, originally mandated that every team must interview at least one minority candidate for a head coaching or general manager vacancy before making a hire.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Gordon: Chargers' system wasn't 'built for me'
Running back Melvin Gordon doesn't think he was put in the ideal system with the Chargers, but he's now confident the Denver Broncos are a good fit for his skills."I think (Denver is) a great system for backs to really be the guy and go out there," Gordon said on the "RapSheet + Friends" podcast. "They run a lot of inside zone, and that's what I did a lot at Wisconsin. ... It (can) help me get back in the feel of what I do best.""When I came to the Chargers, I did a lot of stuff out of the (shotgun)," he added. "I struggled with it, because you have to be so detailed with everything. Obviously it helped to make me a better player all around, as far as the passing game and everything."But it really didn't play off my strengths, especially the first couple of years there, I kind of just had to adjust and make (it) work. It kind of wasn't the system built for me. But I feel like Denver kind of runs my style of football."The Chargers drafted Gordon 15th overall in 2015 after his impressive career at Wisconsin. He started slowly in the NFL and didn't score a touchdown as a rookie, but then bounced back and has made the Pro Bowl twice since 2016.Los Angeles let the 27-year-old go in free agency this offseason, and although he didn't expect the Broncos to pursue a starting-caliber running back, Gordon is interested to see how his union with 2018 Pro Bowler Phillip Lindsay will play out."I know (Lindsay) was unhappy about me coming in, but at the end of the day it's tough, you just have to do what you have to do," Gordon said."And I feel like we can be a good duo," he continued. "But it's tough. It's hard to really see what's on, how things are going to play out, how they're going to use us. I'm not sure, to be honest. I'm really eager to find out."Lindsay has amassed 2,048 rushing yards while averaging 4.9 yards per carry and scoring 16 touchdowns on the ground over the last two seasons. The 25-year-old back has also caught 70 passes for 437 yards since 2018.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Conner: 'It would be hard' to leave Steelers in 2021 free agency
James Conner is entering the final year of his contract, but the running back prefers not to think about potentially playing for a team other than the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021."It would be hard," Conner said on "The Adam Schefter Podcast." "It would be hard to put another helmet on, just because of everything and what this city means to me. The city, like you said, I played my college ball in; the city I got my life saved in, became healthy; the city I got drafted to, and I want to be able to say the city I brought a championship to ..."I'm Pittsburgh through and through. But like I said, I'm big on my faith, and so I'm always going to end up doing and being where I'm supposed to be at thanks to the Lord's guidance and direction. So we'll see. We'll take it one day at a time. I'm staying in the moment."The 25-year-old played college football at Pittsburgh before the Steelers made him their third-round pick in 2017. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma while with the Panthers in 2015 and announced he was cancer-free in May 2016.On the field, Conner quickly developed into a versatile weapon in the Steelers' offense, starring in 2018 as a runner and receiver. However, the tailback's production fell last season as he battled injuries. The Steelers added running backs in each of the last three drafts in Jaylen Samuels, Benny Snell Jr., and Anthony McFarland, leaving Conner's future role with the team in question.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Michael Thomas, DeVante Parker clash on Instagram: 'Quit crying'
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas and Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker got into a heated war of words on Instagram on Monday.Answering a question posed by the NFL on Fox Instagram account about whether it's harder to make a catch while being guarded by Stephon Gilmore or to break up a pass intended for Thomas, Parker picked his AFC East rival, whom he torched for 137 yards in Week 17 last season. His choice left Thomas feeling aggrieved: Thomas snagged 149 passes in 2019, breaking the NFL's all-time single-season catch record and firmly establishing himself among the league's elite wideouts.Parker, meanwhile, had a career year of his own, shedding his bust label by racking up 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns on 72 catches. It was the former first-round pick's first 1,000-yard campaign as a pro.The two players appeared to react to their brief feud later on Twitter:
LeBron trained to be a football player during 2011 NBA lockout
LeBron James is a basketball star with a football player's build, and he once considered moving from the hardwood to the gridiron.James revealed Monday that during the 2011 NBA lockout, he began incorporating football workouts into his training."I had no idea how long the lockout was going to be, and myself and my trainer, we really started to actually train to be a football player, when it came to October and November," James said on his Uninterrupted site. "We started to clock our time with the 40s, we started to add a little bit more in our bench presses."The lockout, which began in July 2011, ended in December. James went on to win the first championship of his career that season with the Miami Heat. Before the lockout-shortened campaign began, James' trainer tried to convince him of an alternate universe in which he joined the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. It appears the idea nearly came to fruition."I know that he got a contract from (Cowboys owner) Jerry Jones that he framed and put in his office," said James' business partner, Maverick Carter.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Latimer's arrest stemmed from poker game argument
Washington Redskins receiver Cody Latimer appeared in a Colorado court Monday following his arrest Saturday on multiple felony charges stemming from an incident that took place at a poker game.Latimer's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said during the hearing that the alleged sexual assault of Latimer's four-year-old son was committed by someone participating in the poker game and is being investigated by law enforcement, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and John Keim. The allegations against Latimer - he's facing charges of assault in the second degree, menacing, illegally discharging a firearm, and reckless endangerment - took place at the same location and around the same time as the sexual assault, Schefter adds.Upon Latimer's arrest, Steinberg had asked the public to withhold judgment as "there's an entire backstory to this situation that constitutes one of the most highly provocative situations you can imagine."According to a police report, Latimer got into an argument with a card player. The game was hosted by Roderick English, who claimed to be Latimer's best friend. English told police he separated the two in the argument.Latimer returned about 30 minutes later and blamed English for the earlier argument, the report states. Latimer then allegedly pulled a handgun out of his hoodie and threatened to kill everybody before emptying the magazine and chamber of his gun. However, the report states he later fired two shots near English.English pinned Latimer against the wall and Latimer retaliated by hitting English on top of the head with the gun, according to the report. The two later calmed down.Latimer is due back in court on July 24.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Report: NFL expanding Rooney Rule; teams must interview 2 minority HC candidates
The NFL is expanding the Rooney Rule. The league will require clubs to interview at least two external minority candidates for head coach openings and one minority candidate for any coordinator role, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Teams also must interview one external minority candidate for senior football operations and general manager jobs, Pelissero adds, and teams and the league office must also consider minority and/or female applicants for senior-level positions. The Rooney Rule changes are expected to become effective Tuesday following a virtual league meeting. After minority coaches and executives struggled to land top roles again this offseason, the league was expected to change the Rooney Rule. It was reported last week that the NFL would also present a resolution that would reward teams with improved draft picks for hiring minority candidates, along with a resolution that would prevent teams from blocking assistant coaches from interviewing for external coordinator positions. Voting on those resolutions is expected to happen Tuesday as well.Established in 2003, the Rooney Rule mandated that every team had to interview at least one minority candidate for a vacancy at head coach or GM before making a hire.As of May 2020, the NFL had four minority head coaches and two minority GMs.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Peterson: 2020 Cardinals probably 'best football team I've been part of'
A new era has begun for the Arizona Cardinals, and cornerback Patrick Peterson believes the franchise's 2020 roster might be the most talented one he's seen in almost a decade with the team."This is probably the best football team I've been a part of on paper," Peterson said on "The Hyperice Lab" podcast.Peterson added, "What we've been able to add to this team this year, what the front office has been able to accomplish this offseason (without) being able to see guys and not able to be around, it's been second to none. I mean, unbelievable."The Cardinals were part of this offseason's biggest trade, acquiring All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Houston Texans in exchange for a pair of draft picks and former All-Pro running back David Johnson.Arizona also signed defensive lineman Jordan Phillips and linebackers De'Vondre Campbell and Devon Kennard in free agency. Finally, the team landed linebacker Isaiah Simmons in the first round of the 2020 draft. The Cardinals already feature All-Pro linebacker Chandler Jones, future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, quarterback Kyler Murray, and Pro Bowl safety Budda Baker.Peterson was selected fifth overall in 2011 and has been part of two playoff campaigns with the Cardinals in 2014 and 2015. Their best result was an NFC Championship Game appearance. But the eight-time Pro Bowl corner thinks they have a shot of going further this season."It's going to come down to us to manage the locker room, manage the egos, and make sure that everybody is on the same page, and understand that we have to commit to one another, believe in one another, and trust one another," Peterson said. "If we do those three things, we can be in Tampa (for Super Bowl LV) ready to face whoever, and ready to hopefully bring that Lombardi Trophy - the first Lombardi Trophy - home to Arizona."The Cardinals are one of 12 teams that's never won a Super Bowl. Arizona has appeared in the big game once, a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. "New York state would help those major sports franchises to do just that. Hockey, basketball, baseball, football - whoever can reopen, we're a ready, willing, and able partner."While not getting the revenue that ticket sales generate will impact teams financially, Cuomo believes returns can still work without fans."They have to make that decision but any way we can help we would help and then we can be up and running," Cuomo said, according to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic."But why wait until you can fill a stadium before you start to bring a team back? If you can televise it in the meantime, great," he added. All major North American leagues are still trying to coordinate plans for a safe return from a pandemic-induced hiatus. The NFL is in the midst of its offseason, but last week the league released its normal regular-season schedule set to begin in September. The NHL and NBA, which both went on pause in mid-March, are still evaluating safety protocols and contingency plans to find a way to finish 2019-20 seasons. The 2020 MLB campaign was shut down before it began, with spring training halted. Reich 'very optimistic' Rivers is with Colts beyond 2020
Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich doesn't think quarterback Philip Rivers' stint with the team will last only one season."I can just tell you I really believe it's Philip's intent to play multiple years (with the Colts)," Reich said Monday, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic. "I'm very optimistic it will be a multiple-year thing."The Colts signed Rivers to a one-year, $25-million deal in free agency after the signal-caller spent 16 seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers.Rivers, who will turn 39 years old in December, built a decorated career with the Chargers but is coming off one of his worst campaigns. The eight-time Pro Bowler amassed 23 touchdowns against 20 interceptions, and the team finished with a 5-11 record. In March, Rivers didn't rule out playing beyond the 2020 campaign. He's agreed to become the head football coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama, when he retires. The Colts lost Andrew Luck prior to the beginning of last season when he surprisingly retired. Jacoby Brissett stepped up as the starting quarterback but failed to lead Indianapolis to the playoffs.Brissett is now set to return to the backup role with Rivers' arrival. Super Bowl exact matchup odds, early values
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. If betting the Super Bowl winner doesn't provide enough value for you - or you're torn between two worthy teams - there's some intriguing upside in the "exact matchups" market, which offers elevated risk with more rewarding prices. You can easily mash together two likely title contenders, but what's the fun in that? Instead, it's worth finding a Super Bowl matchup that could reflect the direction of the season, or simply one that might not appeal to casual bettors. Here are four of our favorite matchups to consider in the early Super Bowl market:Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1200)How much will strength of schedule matter this season? If the answer is "greatly," this might be the bet for you.The Chiefs and Buccaneers both play five teams that oddsmakers project to make the playoffs, tied for the fewest of any club. So the schedule offers each franchise a chance to make a title run.The problem, unfortunately, is the price. The market has already sapped most of the betting value out of any Tampa-related matchups, with this one tied for the shortest odds on the board with Ravens-Bucs. Still, if you're a believer in schedule luck, there's some value here.Baltimore Ravens vs. San Francisco 49ers (+1400)Even if training camps go off without a hitch, the general upheaval of offseason schedules means we'll likely see players in less-than-ideal physical condition to start the season, which could continue over the entire campaign. If it does, what better matchup is there to bet than one between two of the most physical, run-heavy teams we've seen in decades? That formula worked under normal circumstances for the Ravens and 49ers in 2019, and those squads will be ready to pound the rock from Week 1 all the way to a long-awaited Super Bowl XLVII rematch.Baltimore Ravens vs. New Orleans Saints (+1500)Seemingly everyone is picking this matchup, and you should, too. The Ravens and Saints sport the most talented rosters in their respective conferences, and they're hell-bent on reaching the title game after disappointing 2019 finishes. As we laid out on Wednesday, New Orleans and Baltimore are also two of the teams best suited to deal with a potentially shortened offseason, which is a strong factor to consider when betting exact Super Bowl matchups. If the 2020 campaign takes any odd turns, this will be an even more popular pick, and it's one of the few matchups truly worth betting now.Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas Cowboys (+12500)The Bills and Cowboys offer two of my favorite values in their respective conferences, so let's throw them into a value-rich matchup that hearkens back to the 90s. Each team boasts one of the NFL's most talented rosters, but with one major question: Can Josh Allen steady the ship for Buffalo? And is Mike McCarthy the right head coach in Dallas? No, there isn't a powerhouse team to anchor this matchup. But there are matchups with shorter odds featuring clubs like the Cardinals and Falcons, so we'll take our chances here on two legitimate contenders defying the odds in wide-open divisions.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. NFL odds: Will a team go winless in 2020?
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. It's very rare that a team goes winless in the NFL. Just five clubs since 1944 have finished the regular season with zero victories, and only two teams in NFL history have gone 0-16: the Detroit Lions (2008) and Cleveland Browns (2017).According to oddsmakers, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Redskins are the two teams with a shot - albeit an outside one - of accomplishing the rare, unfortunate feat.Jaguars +3000On paper, the Jaguars are the worst team in the NFL. They have the lowest projected win total at five and are the favorite to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 pick in next year's draft. The Jaguars have some talented starters on both sides of the ball but the issue is their lack of depth. Jacksonville is the one team that could stumble to an 0-16 finish if it goes winless during the first month of the season and suffers a few key injuries. The team is particularly weak at the quarterback position, as Gardner Minshew is entering his second campaign under center and backup Mike Glennon is just 6-16 as a starter.Jacksonville's once-feared defense is coming off a year in which it allowed 24.8 points per game. This year's schedule features nine games versus teams that are favored to make the playoffs, which means it's going to be a long season for the Jaguars, even if they manage to steal a few wins.Redskins +5500On the other hand, Washington is actually undervalued heading into the 2020 season. The Redskins hired new head coach Ron Rivera and came away from the NFL draft with a solid class headlined by stud defensive end Chase Young. That makes a winless season in Washington very unlikely. The Redskins were a mess last year. Head coach Jay Gruden was fired after an 0-5 start and the team finished 3-8 under Bill Callahan. Three different quarterbacks started for Washington before the team eventually settled on its top draft pick, Dwayne Haskins. The Redskins will be much-improved under Rivera's guidance. The addition of Young to go along with Ryan Kerrigan, Jonathan Allen, Da'Ron Payne, and Montez Sweat gives Washington one of the better defensive fronts in the NFL. The Redskins are more likely to double last year's three wins than they are to finish 0-16.VerdictA team went winless as recently as 2017, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. However, don't look for it to happen this season. The Jaguars are the most likely to do so, as coach Doug Marrone could lose the team if it starts out slowly, just as he did in 2018 when Jacksonville finished 5-11. Still, there is enough front-line talent for the Jaguars to avoid the dreaded 0-16 in 2020.Thomas Casale is theScore's supervising editor of sports betting. Chargers considered signing Newton before NFL draft
The Los Angeles Chargers pondered signing Cam Newton prior to the 2020 NFL Draft but felt comfortable enough with Tyrod Taylor as a potential starter."Cam is a tremendous quarterback," head coach Anthony Lynn told CBS Sports Radio's Zach Gelb on Saturday. "He's been MVP of this league, he's led his team to the Super Bowl, and he's healthy now from what I hear. Cam is going to be on somebody's roster and he's going to help somebody win a few games, but yeah, we did take a look at that, sure."Newton was released by the Carolina Panthers in March and remains a free agent. He was linked to the Chargers before the draft, but L.A. used the sixth overall pick on quarterback Justin Herbert.Lynn has maintained throughout the offseason that he'd be confident going into the season with Taylor, a former starter with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns, atop his depth chart."I feel really good about the quarterback room that I have," he said. "With Tyrod Taylor, Easton Stick - those are guys that a lot of people don't talk about, but (Stick) was a Division I AA - he won like three national championships (as a starter). ... He's a hell of a leader, hell of a professional and I think he has a bright future in this league one day."Newton was named league MVP in 2015 but has struggled with injuries over the last two years. The Chargers are looking to rebound from a 5-11 season in 2019. Philip Rivers has started every game for the Bolts since 2006, but he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in free agency.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. "The Last Dance" documentary series following Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls aired its final two episodes Sunday night, and the NFL world showed its appreciation for one of history's greatest athletes.
Report: Giants tell Baker to stay away from team meetings
The New York Giants have told cornerback DeAndre Baker to stay away from virtual team meetings for the time being and instead focus on his current legal issues, a source told ESPN's Jordan Raanan. The Giants' 2019 first-round pick is facing four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm stemming from an incident that took place Wednesday. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar was also involved and faces four counts of armed robbery with a firearm.Baker turned himself in to the Miramar Police Department in Florida on Saturday. Dunbar did the same afterward.Upon his release on Sunday, Baker was ordered to surrender his carry permit and firearm. Additional details of the incident emerged during the court appearance, including that the alleged robbery occurred during an illegal dice gambling game.According to the arrest warrant, the two players are accused of stealing money and watches while holding firearms. Per the arrest warrant affidavit, multiple witnesses alleged that Baker ordered another suspect wearing a red mask to shoot an individual who entered during the incident. No shots were fired, and prosecutors have yet to identify the man in the red mask.On Friday, Baker's and Dunbar's lawyers both said they have witness testimony that exonerates the players of armed robbery.Baker's lawyer, Patrick G. Patel, confirmed his client's release Sunday."We sincerely thank all law enforcement for their diligent efforts to uncover the truth herein and sincerely apologize for the distractions that this event has caused to DeAndre's team, teammates, and the NFL community during this difficult time in everyone's life," he said in a statement, according to Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith.Prior to Wednesday's incident, the 22-year-old had been expected to earn a starting spot in the Giants' secondary under new head coach Joe Judge.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Fantasy: 10-team mock draft with analysis after every round
Find positional rankings, additional analysis, and subscribe to push notifications in the NFL Fantasy News section.theScore staff took part in a 10-team, 12-round mock to provide a glimpse into what your drafts could look like and offer some insight on what to watch for in each round. This is a PPR (point per reception) scoring league with the following roster spots: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, FLEX, BN, BN, BN, BN. We omitted defenders and kickers, as they normally get selected in the final two rounds.Draft participants: Justin Boone, Sean Tomlinson, David P. Woods, Mike Alessandrini, Alex Chippin, Caitlyn Holroyd, Lanny Foster, Gino Bottero, Taylor Rohaly, Ian Dalley.Round 1PickPlayerOwner1Christian McCaffrey (RB1)Boone2Saquon Barkley (RB2)Tomlinson3Dalvin Cook (RB3)Woods4Michael Thomas (WR1)Alessandrini5Ezekiel Elliott (RB4)Chippin6Alvin Kamara (RB5)Holroyd7DeAndre Hopkins (WR2)Foster8Davante Adams (WR3)Bottero9Derrick Henry (RB6)Rohaly10Nick Chubb (RB7)DalleyRound 1: No real surprises in the opening round other than DeAndre Hopkins going ahead of Davante Adams, which isn't even that much of shock since Hopkins is likely to remain a top-five fantasy wideout in Arizona. With the Packers failing to add a receiver in the draft, Adams should out-target Hopkins and may challenge Michael Thomas for the fantasy receiver crown in 2020. ... With the depth at wide receiver, expect to see a lot of running backs taken in the first round of fantasy drafts this year.Round 2PickPlayerOwner11Tyreek Hill (WR4)Dalley12Chris Godwin (WR5)Rohaly13Julio Jones (WR6)Bottero14Joe Mixon (RB8)Foster15Austin Ekeler (RB9)Holroyd16Travis Kelce (TE1)Chippin17Lamar Jackson (QB1)Alessandrini18George Kittle (TE2)Woods19Mike Evans (WR7)Tomlinson20Kenyan Drake (RB10)BooneRound 2: The second round is loaded with talent, including several high-end pass-catchers who warrant first-round consideration. Julio Jones is a perfect example since the veteran has finished as a top-six fantasy receiver in five consecutive seasons. Starting RB-WR is one of the best ways to approach your draft this year. ... For as dominant as Lamar Jackson was in 2019, investing at quarterback this early makes it hard for him to return value in a 10-team league where you start one QB. The amount of quality options at the position allows you to wait before settling on a starter. ... Despite a long list of potential breakout candidates at tight end, George Kittle and Travis Kelce offer a ceiling and consistency that others can't match. In a shallower league, they provide a massive advantage week to week.Round 3PickPlayerOwner21Aaron Jones (RB11)Boone22Josh Jacobs (RB12)Tomlinson23Miles Sanders (RB13)Woods24Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB14)Alessandrini25Cooper Kupp (WR8)Chippin26Kenny Golladay (WR9)Holroyd27Todd Gurley (RB15)Foster28Leonard Fournette (RB16)Bottero29Patrick Mahomes (QB2)Rohaly30Amari Cooper (WR10)DalleyRound 3: Though I planned to come away with at least one WR in the first three rounds, Aaron Jones being available at the beginning of the third forced me to reconsider. This pick gives me three running backs who finished inside the top 10 in PPR scoring over the second half of the year in Christian McCaffrey (RB1), Kenyan Drake (RB4), and Jones (RB10). Thankfully, the depth at the other three positions affords me the opportunity to go heavy on RB early in the draft. ... Making Cooper Kupp the eighth receiver off the board seems like a decision that'll be regretted by season's end. As we outlined in my bust candidates column, Kupp's 2019 was a tale of two halves with an excellent start and a troubling finish. Once the Rams shifted to more 12-personnel, Kupp topped 65 yards just once over the final eight games. He's a fringe WR2 in my PPR rankings.Round 4PickPlayerOwner31Odell Beckham Jr. (WR11)Dalley32Allen Robinson (WR12)Rohaly33JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR13)Bottero34Adam Thielen (WR14)Foster35D.J. Moore (WR15)Holroyd36Courtland Sutton (WR16)Chippin37A.J. Brown (WR17)Alessandrini38Calvin Ridley (WR18)Woods39Zach Ertz (TE3)Tomlinson40Robert Woods (WR19)BooneRound 4: If you were looking for evidence of the depth at receiver, how about a fourth round in which nine of the 10 selections were wideouts - all of whom have the potential to reach WR1 status for fantasy in 2020. Unlike Kupp, my pick - Robert Woods - excelled down the stretch with at least nine targets in each of the last seven weeks, while scoring the eighth-most fantasy points among receivers over that span. ... Zach Ertz's reign as a top-five starter may be in jeopardy. He benefitted from the wave of injuries that overtook the Eagles' receiving corps last season, but with all their pass-catchers healthy and a new addition in first-round wideout Jalen Reagor, competition for targets will be fierce. It'll prevent Ertz from keeping up with Kittle and Kelce, making him tough to trust in the early rounds.Round 5PickPlayerOwner41Keenan Allen (WR20)Boone42Tyler Lockett (WR21)Tomlinson43DK Metcalf (WR22)Woods44Mark Andrews (TE4)Alessandrini45James Conner (RB17)Chippin46Melvin Gordon (RB18)Holroyd47Stefon Diggs (WR23)Foster48Darren Waller (TE5)Bottero49Hunter Henry (TE6)Rohaly50Devin Singletary (RB19)DalleyRound 5: After rolling with running backs in the first three rounds, I've been able to snag a pair of potential top-15 receivers in the fourth and fifth. Keenan Allen is an outstanding route-runner who averaged 101 receptions, 1,263 yards, and six touchdowns per season over the last three years. Even without Philip Rivers leading the Chargers' offense, Allen is still a player to earmark at this range in PPR formats. ... The temptation to fill out your starting lineup can cause fantasy managers to draft for need instead of taking the players with the most upside. Mark Andrews, Darren Waller, and Hunter Henry are all capable of producing big weeks, but aside from the two elite options, there isn't a tight end worth drafting in the top 50. You're better off waiting and using these valuable middle-round picks to bolster your running backs and receivers.Round 6PickPlayerOwner51Le'Veon Bell (RB20)Dalley52Chris Carson (RB21)Rohaly53David Johnson (RB22)Bottero54Rob Gronkowski (TE7)Foster55Evan Engram (TE8)Holroyd56Kyler Murray (QB3)Chippin57Raheem Mostert (RB23)Alessandrini58T.Y. Hilton (WR24)Woods59D.J. Chark (WR25)Tomlinson60Jonathan Taylor (RB24)BooneRound 6: Entering the sixth round, three teams had just one running back on their roster. Team Rohaly found his second in Chris Carson - a player with an RB1 ceiling if Rashaad Penny's ACL tear sidelines him at the start of the season. Team Bottero will be relying on David Johnson - a top-10 back prior to getting hurt in 2019 who's returned to the RB2 mix as the Texans' new workhorse. And Team Alessandrini went with late-season star Raheem Mostert, hoping he can pick up where he left off as the lead back in Kyle Shanahan's dominant rushing attack. Though a zero-RB strategy is ill-advised, grabbing one foundation back in the first two rounds and then holding out for values in this area can be very rewarding. ... None of those running back-needy teams saw Jonathan Taylor as the solution, likely due to the rookie's uncertain pass-catching role in the pros. Still confident that I'd be able to round out my roster in the later rounds, Taylor became the fourth rusher on my squad. The drop-off to backup-level RBs is nearing, making Taylor even more enticing here.Round 7PickPlayerOwner61A.J. Green (WR26)Boone62J.K. Dobbins (RB25)Tomlinson63DeVante Parker (WR27)Woods64Terry McLaurin (WR28)Alessandrini65Sony Michel (RB26)Chippin66Deebo Samuel (WR29)Holroyd67Russell Wilson (QB4)Foster68Mark Ingram (RB27)Bottero69D'Andre Swift (RB28)Rohaly70Kerryon Johnson (RB29)DalleyRound 7: There was only one other than myself who elected to pass on receivers with the first three picks. By the seventh round, we're now getting a better view of how that worked out for Team Woods who drafted four straight wideouts, including Calvin Ridley, DK Metcalf, T.Y. Hilton, and DeVante Parker. It's an impressive group with the right combination of past production and youthful upside. All four are firmly inside the top 30 with a path to top-20 numbers if things fall their way. ... J.K. Dobbins found a perfect landing spot in the Ravens' offense, but he'll need an injury to Mark Ingram in order to deliver fantasy-relevant stats as a rookie. This is the first 2020 draft I've seen where Dobbins has been selected before Ingram. The veteran back inexplicably fell to Team Bottero in this round, despite finishing as the RB11 in PPR leagues last year.Round 8PickPlayerOwner71Michael Gallup (WR30)Dalley72Tyler Boyd (WR31)Rohaly73David Montgomery (RB30)Bottero74Derrius Guice (RB31)Foster75Dak Prescott (QB5)Holroyd76Jarvis Landry (WR32)Chippin77Kareem Hunt (RB32)Alessandrini78Damien Williams (RB33)Woods79Will Fuller (WR33)Tomlinson80Julian Edelman (WR34)BooneRound 8: For the third straight round, we'll check in with Team Bottero since he's done a very good job navigating this draft. After securing high-end receiver talent early and a top-five tight end in Waller, he now has a deep stable of RB2s in Johnson, Ingram, and David Montgomery, in addition to his third-round pick, Leonard Fournette. ... Dak Prescott is the first quarterback drafted at a value so far - a savvy move by Team Holroyd, who's mined value by maintaining a very balanced approach. Last year's second-highest-scoring fantasy passer gets yet another weapon added to his already stocked arsenal in first-round wideout CeeDee Lamb. Prescott will be forced to pass more with the Cowboys' defense likely taking a step back, which gives him a chance to end the year as the top fantasy QB.Round 9PickPlayerOwner81Marvin Jones (WR35)Boone82James White (RB34)Tomlinson83Ke'Shawn Vaughn (RB35)Woods84Marlon Mack (RB36)Alessandrini85Golden Tate (WR36)Chippin86Marquise Brown (WR37)Holroyd87CeeDee Lamb (WR38)Foster88Ronald Jones (RB37)Bottero89Phillip Lindsay (RB38)Rohaly90Aaron Rodgers (QB6)DalleyRound 9: My plan to address receiver in the mid-to-late rounds has resulted in five veterans with long resumes as fantasy starters. Woods and Allen have been joined by A.J. Green, Julian Edelman, and Marvin Jones. Green is two injury-plagued seasons removed from being a top-10 PPR receiver. Edelman will be affected by the departure of Tom Brady, but the high-volume slot man had the seventh-most fantasy points at his position last year. Jones had been the WR16 before being placed on injured reserve after Week 14. If you haven't gotten the message yet, let's make it clear - you can wait on wide receiver in 2020.Round 10PickPlayerOwner91Brandin Cooks (WR39)Dalley92Christian Kirk (WR40)Rohaly93Sterling Shepard (WR41)Bottero94Jerry Jeudy (WR42)Foster95Jordan Howard (RB39)Holroyd96Cam Akers (RB40)Chippin97Deshaun Watson (QB7)Alessandrini98Joh Brown (WR43)Woods99Emmanuel Sanders (WR44)Tomlinson100Josh Allen (QB8)BooneRound 10: Cam Akers could turn out to be the best pick in this entire draft if he can earn a three-down job for the Rams. Sean McVay's offense will offer enough volume and scoring opportunities to turn Akers into an RB2 in that scenario. ... Even in a mock draft, it's difficult to defend Team Alessandrini taking another quarterback in a 10-team league where he spent up for Jackson in the second round. The trade market for QBs tends to be very thin in smaller leagues. While we'll never find out if he can move one of them for a decent return, the fact that Deshaun Watson is available in the 10th is all the proof you need against taking a quarterback early.Round 11PickPlayerOwner101Tyler Higbee (TE9)Boone102Matt Ryan (QB9)Tomlinson103Matt Breida (RB41)Woods104Jamison Crowder (WR45)Alessandrini105Jared Cook (TE10)Chippin106Diontae Johnson (WR46)Holroyd107Latavius Murray (RB42)Foster108Curtis Samuel (WR47)Bottero109Mecole Hardman (WR48)Rohaly110Noah Fant (TE11)DalleyRound 11: Without spoiling my outlook for Tyler Higbee too much - he'll be featured in an upcoming article - it's safe to say he's one of my favorite tight ends to roster for 2020. Higbee posted four 100-yard games in his final five outings once he was unleashed as a full-time starter. The Rams would be foolish to limit his role moving forward, which puts him in the conversation as a mid-level TE1. ... Matt Breida may end up splitting touches with Jordan Howard, but he doesn't belong this low in the draft. He brings an explosive element to the Dolphins' backfield and profiles as the pass-catching option over Howard. That alone should cause him to be taken a couple rounds earlier.Round 12PickPlayerOwner111Tarik Cohen (RB43)Dalley112Darrell Henderson (RB44)Rohaly113Tom Brady (QB10)Bottero114Austin Hooper (TE12)Foster115Darius Slayton (WR49)Holroyd116Michael Pittman Jr. (WR50)Chippin117Henry Ruggs (WR51)Alessandrini118Carson Wentz (QB11)Woods119Duke Johnson (RB45)Tomlinson120Alexander Mattison (RB46)BooneRound 12: Once your starting lineup is filled out, your goal in the later rounds should be pure upside - players whose value could skyrocket if they hit. Normally, I'm targeting elite backup running backs like Alexander Mattison, who could be an instant RB1 in fantasy if the starter in front of him gets hurt. Dalvin Cook's injury history makes Mattison even more intriguing. ... Drafting a starting quarterback like Carson Wentz or Tom Brady in the final rounds feels like cheating. Keep that in mind when you get antsy about not having a QB on your roster midway through the draft.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Seahawks' Dunbar, Giants' Baker surrender to police in robbery case
New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar turned themselves in to the Miramar Police Department in Florida on Saturday.Baker is facing four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm for an incident that took place Wednesday. Dunbar faces four counts of armed robbery with a firearm.Baker's lawyer, Bradford Cohen, announced Saturday morning on Instagram that his client surrendered to police. Miramar PD later confirmed that Dunbar also turned himself in.
Devin McCourty: Brady leaving Patriots isn't 'the end of the world'
Longtime Patriots safety Devin McCourty is happy for Tom Brady, but he doesn't believe the sky is falling in New England just because the star quarterback decided to leave for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers."I honestly didn't think twice about Tom Brady's free agency, because I was a free agent," McCourty told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Friday. "That was my main concern, where my family would end up. Would we be back in New England?"Then when I signed my deal and I was back, you kind of think of all the guys. Tom, the Kyle Van Noys, Jamie Collins. All of those guys you had relationships with, Matthew Slater. That you kinda know like, man, this could be it. That could have been the last game I played with these guys. When he made a decision, to me it wasn't like the end of the world."Brady and McCourty had been two of the main pillars of New England's dynasty, winning three Super Bowls together (XLIX, LI, LIII).But while the Pro Bowl safety opted to re-sign with the Patriots on a two-year deal reportedly worth $23 million, Brady stunned the NFL by inking a two-year contract with the Bucs during his first-ever shot at free agency.Although many expected Bill Belichick to target a veteran quarterback like Cam Newton or Andy Dalton to replace the future Hall of Famer, the Patriots appear set to enter the season with sophomore Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer leading their QB depth chart. New England also didn't draft a quarterback, though it brought in two undrafted free agents in Brian Lewerke and J'Mar Smith.Stidham, a 2019 fourth-round pick, is the favorite to land the starting job."I think he's a young guy who's eager to learn. That quarterback position is always a hard position," McCourty said."I'm excited for that quarterback room," he added. "I think they're itching. You get an opportunity to go out there and compete, that's what we all want. I think for us as players at other positions, we need to focus on what we have to do. Not fall into the trap of the media, like everybody worried about the quarterback room. We just control what we can control and the rest will take care of itself."- H/T to NFL.comCopyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Bills' Oliver arrested on DWI, gun charges
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was arrested Saturday night in Houston and charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.Oliver bonded out of the Montgomery County Jail, according to the jail's records. Both of the 2019 first-round pick's charges are misdemeanors. The 22-year-old was pulled over when authorities responded to a 911 call about a white Ford Superduty pickup driving dangerously in a construction zone. There was an open beer bottle between Oliver's legs, and he was determined to be impaired "by possibly something besides alcohol," according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.Police also discovered a gun in Oliver's vehicle. No drugs were found.Oliver became the Bills' ninth overall pick in the 2019 draft following a standout career at Houston. Ranking the 12 teams without a Super Bowl title by how close they are
After two months of free agency and with the 2020 draft in the books, we have a good notion of what NFL teams will look like when the regular season commences. And, for 12 of those clubs, this year means another chance to capture that elusive first Super Bowl. Here's how the clubs without a Super Bowl title rank by how close they are to clinching their first trophy.12. Jacksonville Jaguars Todd Kirkland / Getty Images Sport / GettySuper Bowl history: Have never appeared in a Super Bowl. Last conference championship appearance came in 2017 vs. PatriotsThe Jaguars don't seem close to building a winning team. On offense, they've had four different starting quarterbacks in the last two years. Though Gardner Minshew was better than anticipated last season, it's hard to imagine the sophomore signal-caller being the franchise's savior. On the other side of the ball, Jacksonville's once-great defense should feel the loss of Calais Campbell and the likely departure of Yannick Ngakoue in the short term despite the arrival of two promising first-round prospects. The Jaguars' 2017 run to the AFC Championship Game continues to look more and more like an aberration, and any result other than a top-10 pick in next year's draft would be considered progress.11. Carolina PanthersSuper Bowl history: Lost to Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII, Broncos in Super Bowl 50Any remnants of the Panthers' 2015 NFC-winning roster are now gone. Carolina is looking for a new identity and faces questions regarding recently signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and the team's franchise-worst defense from a year ago.Head coach Matt Rhule's new squad does have reasons to celebrate in All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey and a trio of young wideouts, but the Panthers' future remains murky.10. Cincinnati BengalsSuper Bowl history: Lost to 49ers in Super Bowl XVI, XXIIIAny evaluation of the Bengals depends on Joe Burrow. However, Cincinnati acquired reinforcements to assist the rookie quarterback, signing offensive guard Xavier Su'a-Filo while also drafting wide receiver Tee Higgins.Though the Bengals' 2-14 record last season may suggest differently, they weren't far from being competitive, and they're set to welcome A.J. Green and 2019 first-round offensive tackle Jonah Williams back from injury. A Super Bowl might be a ways away, but Cincinnati is ahead of schedule for a club that owned the first overall pick just one month ago.9. Detroit Lions Mark Brown / Getty Images Sport / GettySuper Bowl history: Have never appeared in a Super Bowl. Last conference championship appearance came in 1991 vs. RedskinsUnlike the previous teams on this list, the Lions know they can rely on their quarterback. Matthew Stafford was leading the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns last season before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 9.However, outside of a solid receiving corps, Detroit's supporting cast is lacking. The Lions' running game continued to struggle in 2019, the pass-rushing group didn't click, and their secondary was one of the league's worst. Granted, all of those issues were addressed during free agency and the draft, but head coach Matt Patricia still has a lot of work to do to make Detroit playoff contenders.8. Los Angeles ChargersSuper Bowl history: Lost to 49ers in Super Bowl XXIXA capable quarterback is essential to winning a Super Bowl. We've seen plenty of teams with an elite defense and an otherwise complete roster fall short of a Lombardi Trophy due to poor play under center. For the Chargers, who added Pro Bowlers and a pair of first-round prospects on both sides of the ball to complement one of the league's most decorated rosters, the question is: Which quarterback will lead them?Tyrod Taylor takes care of the ball but won't make eye-popping plays with his arm, while Justin Herbert is a promising signal-caller whose talent brings more uncertainties while giving the team a higher ceiling. Los Angeles' Super Bowl prospects will depend greatly on which path the team chooses, and how much risk it's willing to take.7. Cleveland BrownsSuper Bowl history: Have never appeared in a Super Bowl. Last conference championship appearance came in 1989 vs. BroncosThe Browns don't lack for individual talent. Their roster, which already featured the likes of Myles Garrett, Odell Beckham Jr., and Nick Chubb, improved with the arrivals of tight end Austin Hooper, offensive tackle Jedrick Wills, and safety Grant Delpit, among others. What makes Cleveland a hit-or-miss team is its inability to put everything together. The Browns will be led by another first-time head coach in Kevin Stefanski, and until he figures out how to get the most out of quarterback Baker Mayfield and his offense, Cleveland doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.6. Arizona Cardinals Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettySuper Bowl history: Lost to Steelers in Super Bowl XLIIIWho would've thought the Cardinals would need just one campaign under quarterback Kyler Murray, and a very productive offseason, before garnering hype as a dark-horse contender. How well Arizona's offensive system operated under Kliff Kingsbury and Murray last season is exactly what teams want to see from a young head coach-quarterback duo.On the other hand, a championship-caliber club can't afford a defense that allows more than 400 yards per game like the Cardinals did in 2019. Though Arizona could be in postseason contention this season, there are too many on-field questions for the team to make a strong championship case.5. Atlanta FalconsSuper Bowl history: Lost to Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII, Patriots in Super Bowl LIThe Falcons would've consistently been at the top of this list in the middle of the last decade, but their reality has changed. Atlanta's been inconsistent over the last two seasons, including 2019's 1-7 start that was followed by a 6-2 finish. Also, the fact that quarterback Matt Ryan's best days could be a thing of the past also hurts the team's Super Bowl aspirations. However, there are reasons for optimism. The Falcons looked like a playoff team in the second half of 2019, they could improve as the roster gets healthy, and they're coming off of a strong 2020 offseason. Additionally, Ryan and Julio Jones are still among the best players at their positions. This is a franchise that's trending down, but it still has the firepower to go on a remarkable run at any time.4. Houston TexansSuper Bowl history: Have never appeared in a Super Bowl. Team has never advanced past the divisional roundThe Texans have the best quarterback among the 12 teams on this list, and Deshaun Watson has proven that he can win games in January. His talent gives Houston a shot against any team on any given Sunday. However, the Texans are set to make Watson's life even harder after some key departures this offseason. Houston lost playmakers on both sides of the ball and didn't find any impact replacements. Watson would need to go on an all-time run to lead the Texans to the Super Bowl in 2020.3. Tennessee Titans Jamie Sabau / Getty Images Sport / GettySuper Bowl history: Lost to Rams in Super Bowl XXXIVThe Titans' opponents knew what they were going to do last year, but they still couldn't stop Tennessee. Derrick Henry added enormous value with his outstanding performances on the ground, while head coach Mike Vrabel put together a balanced defense and found a quarterback capable of making the right throw.Though the Titans may not have as many superstars or as much offensive depth as other teams on this list, their on-field organization makes them a tough opponent. As long as Henry is surrounded by a solid blocking group, allowing him to leave Ryan Tannehill in comfortable situations, Tennessee's Super Bowl dreams won't be shut down easily.2. Buffalo BillsSuper Bowl history: Lost to Giants in Super Bowl XXV, Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI, Cowboys in Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIIIThe Bills' good offseason decisions in recent years started to pay off last season, leaving Buffalo in position to compete in the AFC. The team has a premier defense, solid offensive line depth, an eye-popping triplet of wideouts, and a solid running game.Josh Allen, though, is a question mark. The third-year signal-caller will have to figure out how to consistently put points on the board in order to compete with the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson in the AFC; the Bills failed to score 20 points in each of their last five games in 2019, including during their playoff loss. Reaching the Super Bowl for the first time since 1993 could be just a matter of whether Allen can step up his game.1. Minnesota Vikings Jonathan Bachman / Getty Images Sport / GettySuper Bowl history: Lost to Chiefs in Super Bowl IV, Dolphins in Super Bowl VIII, Steelers in Super Bowl IX, Raiders in Super Bowl XIThe Vikings haven't come close to reaching the Super Bowl since they signed Kirk Cousins after reaching the 2017 NFC Championship Game. However, this is still a 10-win team that finished in the top 10 in scoring both offensively and defensively last year. Running back Dalvin Cook finally had a breakout season, safety Anthony Harris returns after a standout campaign, and the team addressed several areas of need with promising draft prospects. If Minnesota finds a way to get red-hot late in the season and extend its momentum through January, triumphs like the wild-card round in New Orleans last year prove this team has a real shot of competing in the wide-open NFC.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Redskins' Latimer arrested on assault, firearm charges
Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Latimer was arrested Saturday morning on charges including assault in the second degree, the Douglas County Sheriff announced, according to ESPN.Latimer was also charged with menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, prohibited use of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. He posted a $25,000 bond.Latimer was arrested after a witness reportedly heard gunshots and an argument from inside an apartment in Douglas County, Colorado. One person apparently suffered minor, non-gunshot-related injuries."There’s an entire backstory to this situation that constitutes one of the most highly provocative situations you can imagine," Latimer's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, told ESPN's Adam Schefter. "Please withhold judgment until all the facts of what took place that night are known."

Lawyers for Dunbar, Baker claim witnesses exonerate players of armed robbery
The defense lawyer for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar says he's collected sworn affidavits from five witnesses who exonerated his client of any involvement in an armed robbery that took place Wednesday in Miramar, Florida."All of the affidavits indicate my client is innocent," Michael Grieco said Friday, according to David Ovalle of the Miami Herald. The Miramar Police Department tweeted Thursday that a warrant had been issued for the arrests of Dunbar and New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker. Both are wanted for four counts of armed robbery and Baker is also wanted for four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.According to the arrest warrant, the incident took place at a house party and included Baker pointing a gun and instructing Dunbar and another man to take money and expensive watches from others. Witnesses identified Baker and Dunbar as two of the assailants. However, Grieco said five witnesses confirmed that Dunbar was not involved."I have never in my career seen a police department so excited about arresting a celebrity," Grieco said.Prosecutors told Grieco they still require Dunbar to turn himself in.Later Friday evening, Baker's attorney, Bradford Cohen, also issued a statement on Instagram, stating that his client is "innocent of any charges."
Jim Kelly: If Bills don't win AFC East, 'something's wrong'
Even after Tom Brady's departure from the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills are still deferring to the AFC East giants.Bills coach Sean McDermott recently said the Patriots "remain the favorite" in the division even though Buffalo is heavily favored to supplant its rivals for division supremacy. But if the head coach won't call his shot, franchise legend Jim Kelly will. The Pro Football Hall of Famer, who took the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls, believes Buffalo will win the AFC East in 2020."If they don't, then something's wrong," Kelly said on "The Zach Gelb Show." "Tom Brady is not there to block you anymore, so that, to me, is huge."Now that Brady's not in it, I definitely do think the Bills are the team to beat."Buffalo hasn't won the AFC East since 1995. The Bills finished second in the division last season and claimed a wild-card spot.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Rodgers: Love pick was surprising, but I respect Packers' decision
Aaron Rodgers didn't foresee the Green Bay Packers drafting Jordan Love in the first round, but the star quarterback said Friday he understands the team is taking a long-term approach."The general reaction at first was surprise, like many people. Not going to say I was thrilled by the pick, necessarily," said Rodgers, according to ESPN's Field Yates. "But I understand the organization is not thinking just about the present, but the future and I respect that."The Packers stunned the NFL during April's draft by trading up in the first round to take Love at 26th overall. After making the NFC Championship Game last season, Green Bay was expected to use its top draft picks to bolster Rodgers' weapons ahead of his 16th season. But instead of going all-in on the possible final chapter of the two-time MVP's career, the Packers seemingly signaled they're looking toward the team's next era. While the decision blindsided the 36-year-old, he said there aren't any ill feelings toward the former Utah State standout."He didn't get asked to be drafted by the Packers. He's not to blame at all," said Rodgers, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky."(I) had a good conversation with him the day after the draft," He added. "I'm excited to work with him."While Rodgers still wants to play into his 40s, he acknowledged the likelihood of suiting up only with the Packers has diminished."There are some new factors that are out of my control. And so my sincere desire to start and finish with the same organization, just as it has with many other players over the years, may not be a reality at this point," said Rodgers, per The Athletic's Jason Wilde.Rodgers is under contract through the 2023 season after inking a four-year, $134-million extension in August 2018.Trading or cutting the veteran before the 2021 campaign would create a dead-money hit of $31.56 million, according to Spotrac. The first realistic time Green Bay could move on from Rodgers is in 2022, when the NFC North club would save $22.6 million of his $39.8-million cap hit.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: New Rooney rule would use draft picks to fuel minority hires
The NFL is set to propose an updated Rooney rule that would reward teams with improved draft picks for hiring minority candidates as head coaches or general managers, sources told Jim Trotter of NFL.com.Under the proposal, a team would climb six spots in the third round of the draft preceding a minority head coach's second season, and it would move up 10 spots in the third round preceding a minority GM's second season. An organization that hires both a minority head coach and minority GM in the same year could rise 16 spots, making it easy to go from the third round to the second.Additionally, a team would move up five spots in the fourth round if the minority head coach or GM is still with it before a third season.Owners must vote to approve the amendment before it can be implemented. They are scheduled to hold a virtual meeting Tuesday. The NFL vowed to update the Rooney rule after minority coaches and executives struggled to land top roles again this offseason. As of May 2020, the NFL had four minority head coaches and two minority GMs.In an effort to create more of a pipeline, the NFL would also reward a team with a fifth-round compensatory pick if one of its minority assistants gets hired as a coordinator elsewhere. If a person of color becomes a head coach or GM with another team, the previous club would receive a third-round compensatory pick.Additionally, a team would obtain a fourth-round compensatory pick for hiring and retaining a person of color as its quarterbacks coach beyond one season. The NFL would also loosen interview rules to help minority assistants have a better chance of becoming coordinators around the league. The Rooney rule is inspired by former Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who chaired the NFL's diversity committee. Established in 2003, the rule mandates every team to interview at least one minority candidate for a vacancy at head coach or GM before making a hire.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. James Harrison: Tomlin 'never paid me for hurting someone'
James Harrison denies the rumors that Mike Tomlin paid him to hurt other players after saying the head coach handed the linebacker an envelope following a fined hit during the 2010 season."Mike T. has never paid me for hurting someone or trying to hurt someone or put a bounty on anybody!" the former Pittsburgh Steelers defender said Friday in an Instagram post."Again at no time did Mike T. ever suggest anybody hurt anybody or that they'd be rewarded for anything like that," he added.Harrison received the biggest fine of his career ($75,000) for the tackle, which gave former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi a concussion. The 2008 Defensive Player of the Year also says the league fined him for a legal play because it was "getting pressure because the first concussion lawsuits were starting."
Emmanuel Sanders: Brown should get another chance with 'right team'
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders believes Antonio Brown deserves a shot at redemption."He should have an opportunity to be back in the league with the right team," Sanders said Thursday on "Speak For Yourself."He added: "When he steps on the field, he's a game-changer. He's a guy that can literally beat you by (himself)."The receivers were teammates for four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2010 to 2013. Sanders said he considers Brown a future Hall of Famer. From 2013 to 2018, Brown led the league in receiving yards (9,145), touchdowns (67), and catches (686).However, the perennial Pro Bowler wore out his welcome with both the Steelers and then-Oakland Raiders.Brown played one game in 2019 for the New England Patriots. The team released him after a woman said she received "intimidating" texts from the receiver after she accused him of making an unwanted sexual advance toward her in 2017.The 31-year-old remains under investigation by the NFL for allegations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct. After spending much of the season attacking the NFL on social media, the wideout attempted to repair his burned bridges in February, saying he owed the league an apology for his behavior. However, Brown's football future was further complicated by a January incident that involved the driver of a delivery truck. The receiver was charged with felony burglary conveyance, misdemeanor battery, and misdemeanor criminal mischief in April."I don't want him to go out how he's going out right now. I want him to have an opportunity to revamp himself," said Sanders. "Because we all need second chances."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: Seahawks, Browns discussed Wilson trade in 2018
The Seahawks and Cleveland Browns spoke about a Russell Wilson trade in 2018 that would have sent the first overall pick that year to Seattle, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. The discussions took place a year before the Seahawks signed Wilson to a record four-year, $140-million extension. Contract negotiations between Wilson and the Seahawks appeared to grow contentious in advance of the quarterback's self-imposed deadline. The trade chatter apparently motivated Wilson to successfully angle for a no-trade clause in his new deal.Wilson, a perennial MVP candidate, had led Seattle to the playoffs five times in six years when the talks with Cleveland occurred. He's since added two more postseason trips to his resume. The Browns selected Baker Mayfield first overall in 2018, a draft that had four additional quarterbacks - including 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson - chosen in Round 1.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Ex-Browns HC Jackson calls Wilson 2018 trade rumor 'crazy'
Hue Jackson insisted Friday that the Cleveland Browns never spoke to the Seattle Seahawks about trading for Russell Wilson in 2018.It was reported Thursday that Cleveland entertained the idea of exchanging its first overall pick in the draft for Seattle's star quarterback. Jackson, who served as the Browns' head coach at the time, isn't buying it."I've never heard anything so crazy in my life," Jackson told CBS Sports Radio's Zach Gelb. The Browns wound up selecting quarterback Baker Mayfield at No. 1. They also had the fourth overall pick, which they used on cornerback Denzel Ward.Jackson said he laughed when he came across the Wilson rumor. "I would think as the head coach I would at least have known something."The alleged trade talks took place a year before Wilson signed a record four-year, $140-million extension with the Seahawks. He negotiated a no-trade clause into the contract, reportedly after learning of the trade chatter."I know, without question, that wasn't the case," Jackson said. "Unless, like I said, somebody overheard (the respective general managers) maybe having a few drinks and laughing and talking and just throwing stuff out, being boys. That's what we do every now and then. But that never was in our building, that was never said, and I never heard that before in my life."Jackson was fired eight games into the 2018 season. Stafford not looking to leave Lions despite putting home on market
Matthew Stafford put his Bloomfield Township house up for sale months ago, but the Detroit Lions quarterback is adamant he's happy in the Motor City."Listen, I'm here, I want to be here," he said Thursday, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "I love being a Detroit Lion, I love leading this team."Stafford declined to comment specifically about the sale of his house, which is listed for $6.5 million. His wife, Kelly, said Friday in an Instagram video that they're selling the house for safety reasons."No speculation is needed," she said. "We're about to have our fourth child and I personally do not want to live on a lake or have a pool with four children under the age of a little over three. So that is the reason that it's on the market."Stafford was embroiled in trade speculation before the draft amid rumors that Detroit may take quarterback Tua Tagovailoa third overall and trade its veteran. The Lions wound up selecting cornerback Jeff Okudah."All that kind of stuff is just out there to be out there," Stafford said of the trade reports. "It's a slow news month at that point and I'm just happy to be where I am and ready to deal with this offseason the way that it is and try to make the best of the season that I hope happens."The 32-year-old was having one of his best seasons in 2019 before a back injury forced him to miss the second half of the schedule. He appeared in every game from 2011 to 2018 but injuries affected him in many of those campaigns. The Bloomfield Township property is 12,295 square feet. Tom Brady 2020 props: Will Bucs move lead to more production?
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Tom Brady begins a new chapter in his Hall of Fame career after leaving the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His addition has turned the historically futile franchise into one of the Super Bowl favorites (+1500).Can Brady continue to put up big numbers with his new team, or will his production decline without Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels? We break down his 2020 player props to find out.Passing yardsOver Under4150.5 (-110)4150.5 (-110)Brady fell 97 yards short of this total in 2019 but has topped it seven times in the last 11 years. Jameis Winston threw for an NFL-best 5,109 passing yards last season as the Bucs' quarterback, but this will be a different team in 2020. The Buccaneers were often playing from behind thanks to Winston's league-leading 30 interceptions. That will change with Brady under center, but it doesn't mean Tampa Bay won't still be a pass-first offense. This number is right on the money. Brady threw for 4,057 yards last season on a Patriots team that lacked big-play weapons at the skill positions. That won't be a problem in Tampa Bay with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, O.J. Howard, Cameron Brate, and Rob Gronkowski at Brady's disposal. He won't approach the 5,100 yards that Winston put up but will lead one of the NFL's most explosive passing attacks, so look for Brady to go over this total.Pick: OverPassing touchdownsOver Under29.5 (-110)29.5 (-110)Brady has failed to reach 30 touchdown passes in three of the last four seasons, but as we already mentioned, this is one of the most talented group of skill position players he's ever had. Evans and Godwin will produce more long touchdowns in the passing game than the below-average receivers Brady played with in New England, while the trio of Buccaneers tight ends present a nightmare matchup for defenses in the red zone.Only four quarterbacks threw for 30-plus touchdown passes in 2019, so this is a lofty number for the soon-to-be 43-year-old to eclipse. The weapons are there to hit the over but the early lean here is Brady comes up just short.Pick: UnderInterceptionsOver Under9.5 (-110)9.5 (-110)One thing is certain: Brady will throw fewer interceptions than the mistake-prone Winston did last season. As Brady has gotten older, his pick totals have declined. He threw at least 12 interceptions in each of his first six seasons as a starter. However, in Brady's last six seasons, he's topped this number just once with 11 in 2018.Even with Brady's ability to protect the football, the over looks like the play here. Given all of Tampa Bay's firepower on offense and head coach Bruce Arians' aggressive offensive philosophy, Brady will push the ball down the field more than he did with the Patriots, leading to more interceptions. He won't come close to Winston's total, but Brady will reach double-digit picks for just the third time in the last nine years.Pick: OverThomas Casale is theScore's supervising editor of sports betting. Predicting the NFL's 10 best-selling jerseys in 2020
There was plenty of transition in the NFL this offseason. A number of superstar players changed locales, and more than a handful of teams updated their looks. All of this should have an impact on the top-selling jerseys this upcoming season. Here's our best educated guess at which 10 jerseys will fly off the shelves.Tom BradyBrady has been a fixture on this list his entire career and owned the top-selling jersey of 2019. It's gotten to the point where every New Englander must have at least one Brady jersey hanging in their closet. Now that he's a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he has a whole new fan base to sell to. The Bucs don't traditionally rank high on the list of top-selling merchandise, but the switch to jerseys that hearken back to their heyday coupled with the addition of one of the sport's all-time greats might change things. Brady already has four of the top 10 selling jerseys since April's draft.Rob GronkowskiFresh off his one-year retirement, Gronkowski's Buccaneers jersey already features in the top 10 of the highest-selling uniforms. Gronk last had a top-10 selling jersey in 2017, but he figures to be a fan favorite in Florida. The Sunshine State is where he held his Super Bowl beach party and hosted Wrestlemania 36, where the 31-year-old won the 24/7 title belt. Gronk's party style should be a perfect marriage with a team that has a pirate ship in its stadium.Tua TagovailoaThirsty for a winner, the Dolphins fan base is already tying itself to Tua. Tagovailoa has the two highest-selling jerseys in the NFL since he was picked No. 5 overall in the draft. Miami hasn't had a franchise quarterback since Dan Marino, so you can excuse the team for hitching its wagon to a youngster who just had major hip surgery. But the mix of Tua's winning pedigree, his Hawaiian chill, and those Dolphins aqua and whites make for a top seller.Patrick Mahomes MediaNews Group/The Mercury News via Getty Images / MediaNews Group / GettyThe 24-year-old is the youngest player to own both a Super Bowl MVP and NFL MVP award, accomplishing both in just his first two years as a starter. Mahomes is positioning himself to be the new face of the NFL for years to come. He owned the second-highest selling jersey of 2019 and he'll enter 2020 as a defending Super Bowl champion, which should only increase his jersey sales.Lamar JacksonThe one who figures to challenge Mahomes for the duration of his career is the man who succeeded him as the league MVP. Jackson didn't make the top 10 for the highest-selling jersey despite winning the NFL's top individual honor, but his merchandise sales should continue to rise after catching the league by storm - and likely by surprise - in 2019. Jackson's dual-threat ability makes him one of the most exciting quarterbacks since Michael Vick - an icon and top-seller in his time.Dak Prescott and Ezekiel ElliottElliott has owned a top-10 selling jersey every year since he entered the league and Prescott has been on the list in every season except for 2018. Popularity comes with being the faces of America's Team. There's no reason to believe the duo won't be on the list again in 2020. The Cowboys enter the season as a contender in the NFC after missing the playoffs in 2019. They boast an impressive offensive attack that added top receiving prospect CeeDee Lamb in the draft.Joe BurrowNot every No. 1 pick or even top quarterback selected has gone on to make the top 10, but Burrow should be able to crack it. Though Bengals merchandise isn't exactly in demand nationwide, Burrow is coming off one of the most impressive seasons by a collegiate quarterback. His stock has never been higher. He also should have the backing of the NOLA faithful who are likely still celebrating the national championship he led LSU to in January.Saquon Barkley Scott Taetsch / Getty Images Sport / GettyBarkley has had a top-10 jersey every season since he entered the league. Such is life as the marquee player in the top media market in the U.S. The Giants should be more competitive in 2020, and though their matchups with the Cowboys won't be in prime time this season, New York and Barkley will still have plenty of opportunities to make national headlines.Aaron RodgersWe'll end this list with another fixture. Rodgers has had a top-10 selling jersey for the past three seasons and there's no reason to believe that streak will end in 2020. In fact, Packers fans may be even more provoked to pick up a No. 12 jersey now that it appears the clock could be running out on his time in Green Bay. The Packers drafted Jordan Love as their likely quarterback of the future, so if this plays out much like it did when Rodgers was picked to succeed Brett Favre, Aaron has, at most, three years left at Lambeau Field.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sean Payton doubts NFL will investigate James Harrison's envelope claim
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton doesn't believe the NFL will investigate James Harrison's claim that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave him an envelope after his hard hit on former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi during the 2010 season."If people are waiting for the league to investigate that, they shouldn't hold their breath," Payton said, according to Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Advocate. "I think what took place with us back in (2012) in so many ways was a sham, and yet there wasn't a lot we could do with it. The players were vindicated, but from a league or coaching standpoint, there is no union. There is no representation."Harrison didn't specify what was in the envelope Tomlin allegedly gave him."The G-est thing Mike Tomlin ever did, he handed me an envelope after that," Harrison said in an interview on Barstool's "Going Deep" podcast. "I'm not going to say what, but he handed me an envelope after that."In 2012, the NFL suspended Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and Payton for a full year after paying out bonuses for injuring players. The pool was alleged to have been in operation from 2009-11.Steelers president Art Rooney II denied Harrison's claims through a statement Thursday."I am very certain nothing like this ever happened," Rooney said to Pro Football Talk. "I have no idea why James would make a comment like this but there is simply no basis for believing anything like this."Harrison was fined $75,000 for the hit, which gave Massaquoi a concussion. Rooney had defended Harrison's tackle in 2010, saying "the play was a legal hit."Harrison won two Super Bowls over 14 years with the Steelers through three different stints. The 2008 Defensive Player of the Year retired in 2017 with five Pro Bowl appearances on his resume.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Giants' Baker, Seahawks' Dunbar wanted for armed robbery
The Miramar Police Department in Florida issued a warrant for the arrest of New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker and Seattle Seahawks corner Quinton Dunbar.Baker is wanted on four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm for an incident that took place Wednesday. Dunbar is wanted for four counts of armed robbery with a firearm. The Giants issued a statement Thursday night."We are aware of the situation. We have been in contact with DeAndre. We have no further comment at this time," read the statement, obtained by the NFL Network's Kimberly Jones. The NFL also responded to the incident."We are aware of the matter but will decline further comment at this time," read the league's statement, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.According to a police report, Baker attended a party in Miramar on Wednesday. A witness said an argument ensued at a card table and Baker pointed a gun at other party attendees and directed two other men to take money and valuables from others. Dunbar was allegedly one of the men assisting Baker in taking the possessions. A witness said another person wearing a red mask also took valuables at Baker's direction.According to the warrant, Baker also instructed the person in the red mask to shoot someone who had just walked into the party. No shots were fired, however. There are conflicting witness statements on whether Dunbar also had a gun.The police report states the three men then left with expensive watches and more than $7,000 in cash. They left in separate vehicles, making away in a Mercedes Benz, Lamborghini, and BMW that witnesses believed were pre-positioned for a quick getaway.Baker was the 30th overall pick of the 2019 draft. Dunbar was acquired by the Seahawks in a trade from the Washington Redskins in March.Dunbar spoke with Seattle media in a conference call Thursday morning. Both Baker and Dunbar are from Miami, Florida.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc.
