New England Patriots fans can exhale.Star tight end Rob Gronkowski pulled up while running a route during practice Monday, and was forced to sit out the rest of the session. But Gronkowski isn't believed to have suffered a significant injury, with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport describing it as "minor."The four-time Pro Bowler was able to walk off the field under his own power, but according to beat writers in attendance, he moved slowly as he left. It's the second health concern for Gronkowski this offseason, after he missed a portion of OTAs with a reported chest injury. While Gronkowski may have avoided an injury this time, the scare will likely lead the Patriots to limit his snaps this preseason. With Tom Brady suspended for the first four games of the season, Gronkowski has become even more indispensable to the Patriots' offense.Copyright © 2016 Score Media Ventures Inc. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - There seems to be growing concern about the status of oft-injured New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz. The 29-year-old, who missed all of last season with a calf injury and has played in just six games over the past two, missed practice Monday because of a groin injury.Cruz was injured last week and did not play in the preseason opener on Friday. He took part in individual drills on Sunday and watched practice Monday.''Just the status quo,'' coach Ben McAdoo said when asked about Cruz's injury. The Giants have off Tuesday and McAdoo said it was too early to say whether Cruz would be ready for Saturday's game in Buffalo against the Bills.Cruz came to training camp and was a full go from the start. The team cut back on some of his work in the second week of camp.''We're building him up to get to a position where we can make an evaluation,'' McAdoo said. ''He had the hiccup. Hoping to get him some work on Wednesday.''Cruz was not available for comment Monday.McAdoo said he spoke with Cruz on Sunday afternoon about his situation. He insisted the discussion was not necessary, adding that he remains 100 percent behind the player.''We talked about some different things that may be able to help moving forward, and I'll let him share that,'' the first-year head coach said. ''I'm not going to share that. I'll keep our conversation private.''Copyright © 2016 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Malcolm Mitchell was back in full pads at New England Patriots practice Monday, just four days after suffering a gruesome elbow injury in the club's preseason opener.Initial reports were that a dislocation had the rookie wideout slated for a four-week absence, and perhaps that timeline isn't far off in regard to game action. But the quick return to practice, albeit in a large elbow brace, suggests that he's already well on the road to recovery.Prior to the injury, all indications from training camp had been that Mitchell was doing well to carve out a role for himself in the New England offense. Not missing much practice time should give him the opportunity to continue on that path and challenge for some significant snaps heading into the regular season. The Georgia product hauled in a team-high four receptions for 55 yards on five targets in New England's 34-22 win over the New Orleans Saints to kick off the exhibition slate last week.Copyright © 2016 Score Media Ventures Inc. Buffalo Bills safety Aaron Williams is being evaluated for a concussion following a collision in practice Thursday with wide receiver Dez Lewis, a team spokesperson confirmed.Williams missed the majority of the 2015 season due to a neck injury suffered against the New England Patriots in Week 2. The 26-year-old was rendered motionless but returned for a Week 5 game against the Tennessee Titans, before being held out for the rest of the season.Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams confirmed that head coach Rex Ryan told the team Aaron suffered what appears to be a concussion, as opposed to a neck injury."When you look over, and you see it's (Aaron), your thoughts go to his neck and those sorts of things," Kyle said of his teammate to ESPN's Mike Rodak. "As somebody's who's been around him a long time, you get concerned for him. You say a prayer for him."Bills wide receiver Robert Woods echoed the same concerns."Just to know the whole neck, collision thing, any time he collides - I mean, I'm thinking about it," Woods said. "I don't know if (Williams) is (thinking about it) or not, but when you see a guy go down like that who has a history with neck injuries, that's the first thing that comes to your mind."Williams was assisted to the locker room by trainers:

Jimmy Graham made his long-awaited return to the practice field Wednesday, marking his first on-field appearance since rupturing a patellar tendon in November. The Seattle Seahawks tight end was excited to be back with teammates after a grueling recovery, and he said the rehab will remain a part of his daily routine for many months to come."There were some dark days," Graham said after practice, according to Sheil Kapadia of ESPN. "It's been eight months. It's been a constant eight months. I've never been through something that every day you had to do something for it. Every day, you wake up, and until you go to bed, you're doing some type of rehab. It's been like that for me for eight months, and it'll continue to be like that for me for the next eight months."It's something that I'm always going to have to pay attention to. It's a part of life now. It makes me appreciate the game even more than I did. Just being out there today, I'm full of passion and full of fire. I get goosebumps just walking out of that door. So it was a great day."Graham only took part in some individual drills Wednesday, and it may be some time before he's cleared for a full practice workload. But as head coach Pete Carroll later told reporters, the early preseason return has the 29-year-old on track for Week 1.The difficult road back, Graham explained, tested far more than just his physical strength."For me, I think one of the biggest battles is mentally," Graham said. "You have good days and you have bad days. Randomly, you'll feel good for weeks, and then all of a sudden, you'll have a bad day where you're really sore. And you end up questioning yourself, like 'Am I doing the right thing? Why is this so hard?' Especially for me and my career, I feel like a lot of things have come easy. I've always been athletic and fast. To have to learn how to walk again, it's very humbling for sure."If healthy in advance of the regular season, Graham should have every opportunity to earn a primary pass-catching role within the Seattle offense.Graham recorded 48 receptions for 605 yards and two touchdowns across 11 starts last season after joining the Seahawks in a blockbuster trade from the New Orleans Saints.Copyright © 2016 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Cleveland Browns and the agent of defensive lineman Desmond Bryant met Tuesday to discuss whether the club would be willing to pay any portion of the $6 million in base salary Bryant is due this season, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Bryant was lost for the season after tearing his pectoral while lifting weights in New York before the start of training camp. As a result, the Browns are not obligated to pay Bryant after placing him on the non-football injury list. The outcome of the negotiations could have far-reaching effects on the league, as teams don't often exercise their right to not pay players who suffered season-ending injuries away from club facilities, usually opting to pay a part of their salary. If the Browns decide not to pay Bryant, players might be more reluctant to work out away from their teams.Bryant's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter that there was little progress in Tuesday's meeting, but that talks will continue.Copyright © 2016 Score Media Ventures Inc. For the first time, scientists have figured out how to view changes to gene activity in living brains. The brain scan technique may aid discoveries in how Alzheimer’s treatments, schizophrenia, and other neurological disorders work. And not just that: this approach may also help scientists evaluate whether drugs work the way they’re supposed to.The researchers focused on molecules that regulate how tightly DNA wraps around the proteins that serve as structural units for our genetic material. Think of the DNA as string and these proteins as a spool; how tightly or loosely the string is wound around the spool has effects on how DNA expresses itself. These molecules, called histone deacetylases, are part of what determines how tightly the... Continue reading…

Crisis averted.New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was back on the practice field Wednesday following an injury scare involving his lower left leg the day prior.Edelman had been forced to the sidelines during Tuesday's team session, throwing his helmet in frustration before sitting on a cart to be evaluated by the training staff.Given that he'd only returned from the physically unable to perform list two days before hand, some concern immediately set in regarding the wideout's twice surgically-repaired foot.A quick return confirms follow-up reports from Tuesday that Edelman's setback was indeed minor. The Patriots will remain cautious with their top receiver for the rest of training camp and preseason, but the 30-year-old should still be on track for a full workload in Week 1.Edelman racked up 61 receptions for 692 yards and seven touchdowns in just nine regular-season starts prior to injury last year. Long having earned recognition as one of the NFL's premier route-runners at the short and intermediate levels of the field, he remains an integral piece of New England's quick-hit passing game.Copyright © 2016 Score Media Ventures Inc.
