Report: Bears, Robinson resume contract talks
The Chicago Bears and wide receiver Allen Robinson resumed contract extension talks, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Robinson recently deleted references to the Bears on social media as he's frustrated over the lack of progress between the sides. The star wideout reportedly feels disrespected by some of the offers he's received. The 27-year-old said Wednesday that he expects to finish this season with Chicago after trade rumors surfaced. Head coach Matt Nagy, who's spoken with Robinson about the situation recently, said the pass-catcher is "confident that we want him to be here."The Bears received calls from multiple teams interested in Robinson, but the team said they wouldn't trade the pass-catcher, Rapoport reports.Robinson led Chicago in receiving in each of the last two campaigns and is entering the final season of a three-year deal signed in 2018.The one-time Pro Bowler posted one of his strongest NFL campaigns last year, racking up a career-high 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns. He amassed 74 yards on five receptions during the Bears' 27-23 season-opening victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: 49ers hopeful Kittle can return Week 3; Aiyuk, Sanu to debut vs. Jets
The San Francisco 49ers believe star tight end George Kittle will be ready to return for the Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. An MRI revealed that Kittle's knee injury is specifically an MCL sprain, which usually requires a multi-week absence. However, Kittle has already been walking without a limp around the team's practice facility. With the 26-year-old ruled out for Sunday's contest versus the New York Jets, the 49ers' offense will turn to tight ends Jordan Reed and Ross Dwelley.San Francisco does have good injury news. The team expects first-round rookie receiver Brandon Aiyuk - who missed Week 1 with a hamstring injury - and recently signed wideout Mohamed Sanu to play against the Jets.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. It's possible the Packers' franchise passer has some added motivation this year after the front office elected to draft his eventual replacement in the first round, but don't underestimate just how bad the Vikings' cornerback situation is in 2020.Fortunately for the 36-year-old, he gets another favorable opponent in Week 2 as the Lions travel to Green Bay fresh off allowing Mitch Trubisky to save his starting job with a three-TD outing.Part of Rodgers' success in the opener was a more pass-happy approach that featured 44 passing attempts. He only topped 40 attempts on three occasions last year, with one of them coming against Detroit in Week 17.In a game with the fourth-highest projected point total on the slate at 49, you can feel confident with Rodgers in your lineup this week.Boone's projection: 311 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, 7 rushing yardsOther QBs to start

Bears, Cohen agree to 3-year, $17.25M extension
The Chicago Bears and running back Tarik Cohen have agreed to a three-year extension worth $17.25 million, Cohen's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal includes $9.53 million of fully guaranteed money and can be worth up to $18.25 million.Cohen's extension comes as the Bears reportedly continue negotiations with wide receiver Allen Robinson.Chicago selected Cohen in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He's amassed 250 carries for over 1,000 yards in three seasons and also provides value to the Bears' inconsistent passing game.Cohen rushed for 41 yards on seven carries in the Bears' Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Patriots-Seahawks betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. After impressive wins in Week 1, the Seattle Seahawks (-4, 45) and New England Patriots face off for the first time since 2016, when Seattle's goal-line stand thwarted New England on Sunday night. Can the visitors flip the script this time around? Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Sunday night.Betting trendsGood luck fading the 'Hawks in prime time. Since Russell Wilson took over in 2014, Seattle is 20-9-3 against the spread in the late-night slot and 12-4-1 ATS in that spot at home. The team is especially sharp when giving points, with a 13-3-2 ATS record as prime-time favorites under Wilson and an average scoring margin of 13.6 points. The same can't be said for Cam Newton, who's 6-13 ATS in his career in prime time and 1-4 ATS in that spot as a road 'dog. The Patriots quarterback has had his fair share of struggles on the road in recent years, owning a 10-16-1 ATS record since late December 2015 and a 2-8 ATS mark over his last 10 road games. One area that does excel in those spots is the over, which is 23-12-1 when Newton is a road 'dog with a 16-6 run since 2014. Conversely, the Seahawks are 7-1 to the over in their last eight night games and 24-10 to the over against AFC teams under Wilson. They've also gone over in five straight vs. the Patriots and five straight against Newton-led teams.Player propsRussell Wilson under 235.5 passing yards (+108)Wilson threw it all over the yard against the Falcons in Week 1, topping 300 passing yards for the first time in his last eight regular-season games. The matchup played a key role - Atlanta has allowed at least 236 passing yards in 10 of its last 16 games, while the Patriots have done so just twice in their last 14 games. The best way to beat New England is on the ground, which has long been the offensive focus of Seattle. Don't let one strong performance through the air detract from the most obvious outcome on Sunday.Sony Michel under 34.5 rushing yards (-118)The Seahawks' run defense was one of the few areas on that side of the ball that didn't need an overhaul after last season. Sure enough, it performed admirably in Week 1, holding the Falcons to a combined 72 rushing yards on 3.4 yards per carry. The Patriots are likely to attack it anyway, but expect much of the damage on the ground to come via Newton runs. Michael tallied 37 yards against a soft Dolphins defense; he won't sniff that number vs. Seattle.Best betSeahawks -4In Week 1, the Seahawks finally "let Russ cook" to the tune of 322 passing yards and four touchdowns. That won't happen Sunday against an elite Patriots secondary daring to be challenged, but Seattle is more than capable of winning with its bread and butter ground game, exposing the weakest part of New England's reworked defense. That would make the under a solid play, too, though there's still a chance Wilson finds daylight in the passing game a few too many times. Either way, this game is trending the Seahawks' way, and there isn't enough talent for the Patriots to stop them.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Dee Ford won't play vs. Jets due to neck injury
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Dee Ford is listed as out for Sunday's matchup with the New York Jets due to a neck injury.Ford didn't practice all week and was previously considered questionable for Week 2.The pass-rusher had surgery during the offseason to clean up a chronic knee issue but played 56% of San Francisco's Week 1 defensive snaps.Ford joins a growing list of 49ers players who are expected to miss time. The team placed wide receiver Deebo Samuel and cornerback Richard Sherman on short-term injured reserve earlier this week, and star tight end George Kittle will also miss Sunday's tilt with a knee sprain.Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead will receive most of the work on the edge in Ford's absence, with Kerry Hyder and Kentavius Street spelling them.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Saints' Thomas ruled out for MNF vs. Raiders
The New Orleans Saints will be without their top receiving option in Week 2 against the Las Vegas Raiders.Michael Thomas is officially ruled out for the contest with a high ankle sprain, according to the Saints' official injury report obtained by ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. He suffered the ailment during the team's Week 1 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported earlier this week that the injury is worse than the team originally believed and the receiver could miss several weeks of action. However, the Saints thought Thomas could possibly play through it after he "felt fantastic" during Thursday's practice, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Thomas was kept in check by the Buccaneers' secondary in the season opener, recording just three receptions for 17 yards. The Saints' passing attack will likely rely heavily on receiver Emmanuel Sanders and tight end Jared Cook in his absence.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Buccaneers' Godwin out vs. Panthers due to concussion
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin won't play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, the team announced.Godwin was placed in concussion protocol Wednesday and underwent extra tests Saturday after participating in non-contact practice Friday. He was listed as doubtful on Tampa Bay's latest injury report. The star wideout notched a team-high six receptions for 79 yards during the Buccaneers' 34-23 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.He enjoyed his best NFL campaign last season, racking up 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns through 14 games. The 2019 Pro Bowler missed the first two games of his career last season due to a hamstring injury.Tampa Bay drafted Godwin out of Penn State in the third round in 2017.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL Week 2 player props: Watson, Rodgers in for huge days
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We got things cooking with our Week 1 player prop bets by going 4-1. As you get prepared for NFL Sunday, keep these props in mind.Deshaun Watson over 21.5 completionsThe obvious downside here is Watson faces a Baltimore Ravens unit that finished No. 5 in DVOA defense last season and just held the Cleveland Browns to 4.5 yards per play in Week 1. However, he's going to get his opportunities to put up numbers. The Houston Texans had a 70-30 pass-run split when they trailed by more than a touchdown last season. A week after getting embarrassed by the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston will be in catch-up mode all game as a seven-point home underdog.Aaron Rodgers over 265.5 passing yardsRodgers couldn't be stopped in the opener against the Minnesota Vikings. He threw for 364 yards and four scores as the Green Bay Packers averaged close to seven yards per play. That may have been the start of Rodgers' revenge tour, which will continue in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions.A Detroit secondary that parted ways with Darius Slay this offseason just lost cornerback Justin Coleman to injury. Once Coleman left Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky lit up the secondary en route to a fourth-quarter comeback.Green Bay's wide receivers ran amok in the opener and should go off again in Week 2.Parris Campbell over 4.5 receptionsIndianapolis Colts wide receivers will be licking their chops on Sunday. A Minnesota defense that cut ties with a majority of last season's secondary is now expecting a handful of younger players to shoulder the load. The unit wasn't up for the challenge in the opener when it allowed 11.4 yards per completion to Rodgers and Co.Colts quarterback Philip Rivers developed a nice rapport with Campbell in the opener, hooking up with the second-year receiver six times for 71 yards. Expect more of that in a game featuring one of the higher totals on the board.Tyrod Taylor under 221.5 passing yardsTaylor might be the safest option under center for the Los Angeles Chargers, but the veteran quarterback limits the offense through the air. He lived up to his game-manager tag in the opener, going just 16-of-30 with 208 yards against a porous Cincinnati Bengals defense. He averaged fewer than seven yards per attempt in Week 1 and will try to play keep-away from a potent Chiefs offense, so expect another low number for the Chargers signal-caller.Teddy Bridgewater longest completion over 36.5 yardsI love this play on Bridgewater. The Carolina Panthers are around eight-point underdogs to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who possess a strong run defense but a rather leaky secondary. The Panthers have athleticism in the skill corps, as Bridgewater connected with newcomer Robby Anderson on a 75-yarder against the Las Vegas Raiders last weekend, which is good news for the vertical passing game.Bridgewater will have a couple more splash plays up his sleeve this weekend.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Week 2 Preview: 2 QBs and 2 RBs look to maintain positive changes
A rundown of the best games and most interesting trends to watch for in Week 2 of the NFL. All times Eastern.Jamal Adams vs. Cam NewtonNew England (1-0) at Seattle (1-0), 8:20 p.m.Sunday night's Patriots-Seahawks throwdown is shaping up to be the best potential chess match of Week 2.The Patriots leaned into Cam Newton's ability to run the ball in last week's win over the Dolphins, which also included a heavy dose of play-action (50%, per PFF), both power and zone-read runs, and formations with two tight ends and two extra tackles, which looked like this:
NFL Week 2 Pros vs Joes: Sharps, public all-in on Jaguars
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Before you make your NFL bets this weekend, it's worth knowing which side other bettors are backing - especially on games drawing sharp action. We talked to Jay Rood, Bet.Works' chief risk officer and theScore Bet's head trader, to see how sharps and public bettors are playing a busy Week 2 slate.Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (-7, 43.5)Last week, no team was faded harder by the betting public than the Jaguars. After they stunned the Colts as 7-point underdogs, bettors changed their tune, backing Jacksonville more than any team in Week 2.The Jags have drawn a couple of sharp plays against the Titans and plenty of public money, moving this line from 10 to 7. Jacksonville has seen nine times as many straight bet tickets with no offsetting money on Tennessee, and bettors are playing the road 'dogs in parlays and on the moneyline."To come all the way from 10 is a pretty strong opinion," Rood said. “We’re gonna be big Tennessee Titans fans."It'll take a lot for the Jaguars to pull it off twice in a row. Teams coming off an outright win as a 7-point or more underdog are 6-23-1 against the spread in their last 30 games when getting at least seven points in the next matchup, with just two outright wins in that stretch.Washington Football Team at Arizona Cardinals (-7, 47.5)The second-most bet team of the week is Washington, surprisingly drawing public money against a bettor-friendly Arizona team that pulled off a big upset a week ago.Early bettors favored the Cardinals, who opened as 6.5-point favorites and settled at -7 later in the week. Since then, it's been all Washington, attempting to pull off a similar feat as the Jaguars in back-to-back spots as a hefty underdog."It's generally public play, and mostly good two-way," Rood said. "We just don't want to see this game land at 7."Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles (-1, 46)The game of the week for bettors is easily this one, where sharps and squares are split between two talented but inconsistent NFC squads.Public bettors are backing the Rams, who beat a banged-up Cowboys team Sunday night to open their new stadium. While L.A. sees twice as many tickets written, the money is 2-to-1 in favor of Philadelphia, which blew a second-half lead to Washington in Week 1."If the Eagles had held onto their lead, this game would easily be -2.5 or -3 in their favor," Rood said.Instead, this line bounced around all week, opening at Eagles -1.5 and briefly flirting with pick 'em before moving toward Philly heading into the weekend. A run of parlay tickets on the Rams suggests more public money ahead, but sharps have taken a firm position on the home team."That's a game that's moving against the public, and they're probably scratching their heads," Rood said. "It's a typical 'fire right back' game for the sharp community."Buffalo Bills (-6, 41) at Miami DolphinsThe margins aren't quite so pronounced as in the Rams-Eagles game, but the betting community is also torn on an under-the-radar matchup from the AFC East. The public is all-in on the Bills this week, buying them at a 3-to-1 clip in straight-bet ticket count with an 11-to-1 advantage in parlay money. Sharps are taking a contrarian stance, pushing Miami to a 3-to-1 advantage in money ahead of Sunday. The Dolphins went 1-4 ATS last year when getting at least six points at home, while Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen has been a road favorite just twice since entering the league in 2018. He's 2-0 ATS in those games, including last year's 37-20 win in Miami.New Orleans Saints (-5.5, 49.5) at Las Vegas RaidersThe week's final game could prove to be the most important one for books, as the public is lining up its parlays on the big Week 2 favorites. That includes the Saints, who are nearly dead even in ticket count and moneyline bets with the Raiders but have a clear advantage in parlay money. For the second straight week, sharp money sides with Las Vegas, as one big play on the home 'dog pushed the money to a 10-to-1 advantage in its favor ahead of Monday night. That's just fine with Rood, who expects money to come down on the Saints as kickoff nears. If the favorites take care of business on Sunday, this game could carry an even greater significance."As the weekend progresses, we’re going to need the Raiders eventually," Rood said.(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Rams, Woods agree to 4-year extension reportedly worth $65M
The Los Angeles Rams and wide receiver Robert Woods have agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.Woods' new deal has a base value of $65 million with $32 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The big-money extension for Woods comes just one week after the Rams rewarded fellow wideout Cooper Kupp with a three-year contract reportedly worth up to $48 million. An annual average of $16.25 million makes Woods the tenth-highest paid receiver in football, checking in one spot behind Mike Evans and just ahead of Brandin Cooks, who joined the Texans in an offseason trade from the Rams.Woods, a second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2013, is coming off the two most productive seasons of his pro career. He played in all but one game over that stretch, recording 176 catches for 2,353 yards, and eight touchdowns.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. 49ers' Kittle won't play vs. Jets due to knee injury
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle will sit out Sunday's game against the New York Jets due to a knee sprain suffered in Week 1, the team announced Friday. The 49ers originally thought Kittle had a chance to play this week, even if he didn't practice beforehand. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan says the star playmaker will instead remain in the Bay Area to rehab, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.Ross Dwelley and Jordan Reed will take on a more significant workload at the tight end spot in Kittle's absence.Cornerback Jason Verrett - sidelined with a hamstring injury - is also ruled out for this week's contest. Eagles' Sanders to make season debut vs. Rams
Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders said Friday he will play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams after missing the season opener due to a hamstring injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter."I'm 100% ready to go," Sanders said, per Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.Sanders has been a full participant in practice since Wednesday. The 23-year-old took over the Eagles' backfield as a second-round rookie in 2019 and led the team with 179 rushing attempts and 818 yards. The former Penn State standout also scored six total touchdowns and hauled in 50 catches for 509 yards.Philadelphia recorded just 57 rushing yards on 17 attempts without Sanders during the team's 27-17 loss to the Washington Football Team in Week 1.The Eagles are also expecting to have more players back against the Rams, including offensive tackle Lane Johnson (ankle) and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (pectoral/hamstring).After missing the season opener, both Johnson and Hargrave didn't have a status designation on the team's latest injury report following a full practice Friday.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Lions' Golladay to miss 2nd straight game, Okudah set for NFL debut
The Detroit Lions have ruled out wide receiver Kenny Golladay for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers due to a hamstring injury, the team announced Friday.Golladay, who was also sidelined in the season opener, didn't practice this week. The 26-year-old made his first Pro Bowl after leading the NFL with 11 receiving touchdowns last season. He also recorded 65 receptions and 1,190 yards.Danny Amendola carried the load at wide receiver for the Lions against the Chicago Bears in Week 1 - amassing five catches for 81 yards - while Marvin Jones posted 55 yards on four receptions. On Friday, Detroit also ruled out veteran cornerback Desmond Trufant for Week 2 due to a hamstring injury. The Lions, however, removed cornerback Jeff Okudah from the injury report. Broncos' Lindsay out vs. Steelers, Sutton listed as questionable
Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay won't play Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to turf toe, head coach Vic Fangio announced Friday, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic.Fangio added that wide receiver Courtland Sutton's status is a "50-50 thing" for Week 2. A shoulder injury kept Sutton sidelined in the season opener.Lindsay injured his foot in the first half of Monday's game against the Tennessee Titans and didn't return after halftime. He was held to 24 rushing yards on seven carries in Week 1.He's led the Broncos in rushing in each of the last two seasons and has put together back-to-back seasons with at least 1,000 yards since Denver signed the undrafted free agent in 2018.Lindsay's absence will leave Melvin Gordon as the Broncos' No. 1 rusher, with Royce Freeman as his backup. Gordon rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown on 15 attempts during his first-week debut with the club.Sutton, meanwhile, is coming off his best NFL campaign. Buccaneers' Godwin doubtful for Week 2, Evans set to play
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is considered doubtful for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Friday, including Greg Auman of The Athletic.Godwin was placed in concussion protocol Wednesday and was only able to advance to non-contact practice Friday, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. The 2019 Pro Bowler will undergo more tests Saturday and can be upgraded to questionable if the doctors clear him, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.Godwin led the Buccaneers with six receptions for 79 yards during their 34-23 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.The 2017 third-rounder enjoyed his best NFL campaign last year, amassing 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns. But it's not all bad for the Buccaneers' wide receiver corps - Mike Evans, who's been battling a hamstring issue this week, has no injury designation on Tampa Bay's latest injury report and will play in Week 2.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. The knee issue could reportedly affect Brown for more than just one game. The 23-year-old hauled in five catches for 39 yards during the Titans' 16-14 victory over the Denver Broncos in Week 1.The 2019 second-round pick took the NFL by storm as a rookie, leading Tennessee with 52 receptions, 1,051 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. In Brown's absence, the Titans expect Corey Davis and Adam Humphries to lead the way at the wideout position.Additionally, Vrabel has not confirmed pass-rusher Vic Beasley (knee) and cornerback Malcolm Butler (quad) - who are listed as questionable on the team's latest injury report - for Sunday's game. Report: Thomas 'felt fantastic' at practice, still not ruled out for MNF
Michael Thomas might have a chance to play Monday night despite reportedly being expected to face a multi-week absence. The New Orleans Saints' star receiver "felt fantastic" at Thursday's practice, and there's "a little glimmer of hope" that he could play through his high ankle sprain against the Las Vegas Raiders, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. It was initially said Thomas' injury wasn't severe and he wouldn't be forced to miss any time, but it was later reported the wideout would be sidelined for several weeks and could go on injured reserve. The 27-year-old - who was named Offensive Player of the Year last season after leading the NFL with 149 catches and 1,725 receiving yards - was quiet in New Orleans' Week 1 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, catching just three passes for 17 yards.Thomas apparently sustained the injury when teammate Latavius Murray rolled up on his leg late in the Saints' 34-23 victory. If Thomas can't play, Emmanuel Sanders will likely be Drew Brees' No. 1 receiving option.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. The hype is real with Joe," Mayfield said Thursday night, according to Curtis Crabtree of Pro Football Talk. After nearly managing a fourth-quarter comeback in his NFL debut against the Los Angeles Chargers, Burrow completed 37 of 61 pass attempts for 316 yards and three touchdowns during a 35-30 loss to the Browns in Week 2."I thought he played extremely well," Mayfield added. "Just being decisive, keeping plays extended, taking care of the ball. I thought he did a great job. It's always good to see another young guy come in and take over and obviously that team loves him. They follow him and he leads them."Burrow became the first rookie signal-caller in the Super Bowl era with 60-plus pass attempts and zero interceptions in a game, per NFL Research. The former LSU standout won the Heisman Trophy and took the Tigers to the national title last season while leading the NCAA with 5,671 passing yards and setting an all-time college football record with 60 touchdown throws.Mayfield, also a former first overall pick, threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns against one interception in the win over Cincinnati. The Browns also ran for 215 yards and three scores.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
NFL Week 2 best bets: Brady, Bucs to rebound vs. Panthers
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We kicked off the NFL season going 1-1-1, pushing the Los Angeles Chargers -3, and losing the Eagles/Washington Football Team under 43.5 by half a point. But those all even out over the year, so I'll take that record in the opening week of NFL action during a pandemic. Here are our best bets for Week 2:Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-8.5, 48)Tom Brady and the Buccaneers had a tough opener against the New Orleans Saints. Keep in mind though, the Saints are arguably the NFC's best team. Things get significantly easier in Week 2 for Tom Terrific and Co. The Panthers' retooled defense played as advertised in Week 1 and gave up 34 points and 372 total yards to the Las Vegas Raiders. A matchup with Carolina is just what the doctor ordered for Tampa Bay's offense to get on track. This is obviously a huge public play, but square bets don't always lose. Brady is legendary for having big games after poor outings, and everything lines up for a Buccaneers blowout victory on Sunday. I got Tampa Bay -7.5 early but would play it at anything under -10.Pick: Buccaneers -8.5Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles (PK, 46)I took Washington +6.5 against Philadelphia last week, which resulted in an easy win. The Eagles were dealing with multiple key injuries and had no business being close to a touchdown favorite. However, this week Philadelphia expects to get running back Miles Sanders and tackle Lane Johnson back, giving the offense a big boost. The Rams are also in a bad situation, having to travel across the country following a prime time opener. The Rams were lucky to edge out the Dallas Cowboys, but it wasn't all that impressive. Dallas managed just 20 points against a weak defense and did very little offensively in the second half - they scored just 7 points. Philadelphia presents a much tougher challenge for Jared Goff, who got cold late in last week's contest after a hot start.More than 70% of the money and bets are backing Los Angeles this week, but I'm going against the grain and calling for the Eagles to rebound at home.Pick: Eagles PKSan Francisco 49ers at New York Jets (+7, 42.5)Who is crazy enough to bet the Jets after their dismal Week 1 performance? That insane person is me. Listen, there wasn't much good to say about Gang Green other than they actually fought in the second half last week against the Buffalo Bills after they fell behind 21-0. New York outscored Buffalo 17-6 the rest of the way, but the offense was still bad and the defense allowed over 400 total yards. So, why the Jets? San Francisco is in an awful spot - the 49ers are coming off a Week 1 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals and now have to fly to the East Coast to face what currently looks like the league's worst team. Not to mention San Fran is dealing with injuries to its secondary and stud tight end George Kittle. The club was down to just two healthy cornerbacks on Wednesday.Unsurprisingly, 80% of bets here are on the road favorite, but I think the 49ers have more issues heading into this game than most people realize. They shouldn't be laying a touchdown on the road right now, even to the lowly Jets. I may regret it, but I'm riding with New York +7. Please pray for me and my family.Pick: Jets +7(Odds source: theScore Bet)(Betting percentages source: Sports Insights)Thomas Casale is theScore's supervising editor of sports betting. Burrow not happy with Bengals' 0-2 start: 'Losing isn't very fun'
No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow has looked instantly comfortable at the NFL level, but the young quarterback's strong early performances haven't yet led to any wins for the Cincinnati Bengals.Burrow and Co. lost to the Cleveland Browns 35-30 on Thursday night and fell to 0-2, and the rookie admitted after the game that it was a new experience for him."Losing isn’t very fun," Burrow said, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "This might be the only time in my sporting career that I have lost two games in a row. It doesn't feel very good. I know that the guys in there are hurting. We are going to come back to work tomorrow and try to get this thing right."Losing is unacceptable to me, to everyone in there, to coach (Zac) Taylor, and to everybody in this organization. We are just going to have to get it fixed."The Bengals needed Burrow to throw 61 times in just his second taste of NFL action following the preseason's cancelation. He finished the game with 316 yards and three touchdowns. Many have praised the former LSU star's performance amid consistent pressure from the Browns' defensive line and coming off a short week, but Burrow only cares about earning his first professional victory."I will never adjust or accept losing," Burrow added. "That is just something that is not in my mindset, so this 0-2 start is really hurting me. I know it is hurting coach and everybody in there. We will never adjust to losing. We will never accept losing. We are just going to have to get it right."Burrow and the Bengals face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: A.J. Brown's status for Week 2 uncertain due to knee injury
Wide receiver A.J. Brown might not be available for the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.Brown has been battling a knee bone bruise, putting his status in doubt for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and possibly beyond, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The second-year wideout didn't practice Thursday after training on a limited capacity Wednesday.Brown racked up five receptions for 39 yards in the Titans' 16-14 season-opening victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday. He led the team with 52 catches, 1,051 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns as a second-round rookie last season.Fellow pass-catcher Corey Davis, who topped Tennessee with 101 receiving yards on seven receptions against the Broncos, returned to practice Thursday after missing Wednesday's session with a hamstring injury.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Chargers' Pouncey to miss season due to hip injury
The Los Angeles Chargers will be without their starting center for the remainder of the 2020 season as Mike Pouncey was placed on injured reserve Thursday, general manager Tom Telesco announced.Pouncey missed the Chargers' season opener Sunday, and has been battling a hip injury that will require surgery."On top of being a Pro Bowl talent, he's the ultimate captain, teammate, and competitor," Telesco said. "Quite simply, he's one of the best leaders I've ever been around. Mike's played a major role in establishing the culture and standard we now have in our locker room and sets a tremendous example, especially for the younger members of our team. I'm happy he'll remain around the team throughout the season, and all of us wish Mike a successful procedure and speedy recovery."The four-time Pro Bowler joined the Chargers in 2018 on a two-year deal after spending his first seven NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He started all 16 games in his first campaign with Los Angeles and has amassed 114 career starts. In Pouncey's absence, the Chargers are expected to move forward with Dan Feeney at center and Forrest Lamp starting at left guard. The offensive line allowed two sacks and helped their running backs finish with four yards per carry against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1.The Chargers have also lost star safety Derwin James to a season-ending injury.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL upset of the week: Bet the Raiders vs. depleted Saints
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Each week during the NFL season, we'll focus on one underdog with a chance to pull off the outright upset. Last week, the Buccaneers (+160) fell flat against the Saints, but we're fading New Orleans once again in Week 2 and backing the Raiders (+210) on Monday night.Saints' offense in troubleEven with a full complement of weapons on Sunday, New Orleans looked out of sync. The Saints were outgained in the air and on the ground, and if not for a pick-6 and Tampa Bay botching a punt, they could have easily lost at home. Those two plays happened, of course, but betting on other teams' miscues is not a sustainable way to win.Now the Saints need to contend with the expected loss of Michael Thomas, who was on the receiving end for a whopping 38.9% of New Orleans' passing offense a year ago. Just look at how much the Texans struggled in Week 1 trying to run their offense without target hog DeAndre Hopkins. Losing a talent like Thomas is one thing, and reworking the offense is another. The Saints' offense isn't built to attack even a vulnerable Raiders secondary. Drew Brees attempted just four deep passes against the Buccaneers, and he averaged 3.2 air yards per completion, tied for the lowest in Week 1. If that continues, this game will be closer than oddsmakers expect - which is exactly what the Raiders want.Jacobs can keep it closeThe Saints' defense hasn't allowed a 100-plus-yard rusher in 44 games, but that streak could end on Monday. Las Vegas running back Josh Jacobs has rushed for 100-plus-yards in five of his last 10 games, and he posted 139 total yards and three touchdowns last week, leading his team to a 34-30 win over the Panthers. That victory was the Raiders' 15th one-score game since Jon Gruden took over as head coach in 2018. His team is a remarkable 13-2 against the spread in those contests with 10 outright victories, including a 9-0 ATS record with five upset wins as an underdog. A steady diet of Jacobs would help to chew clock while forcing the Saints to keep Brees involved, which would be good news for Vegas backers. Why the Raiders will winBetting any touchdown underdog on the moneyline is a big risk, but the Saints are reeling after a sloppy win and a major injury to arguably the most important piece of their offense. The Saints went 5-0 last year without Brees by force-feeding Thomas, and they haven't played without the stud pass-catcher since 2016.His absence is a key reason to bet the Raiders, but Las Vegas' own Week 1 performance was encouraging, and now its pass defense needs to hold up. Given how Brees is playing, that shouldn't be an issue.Take a swing on the big home 'dogs and hope for a close game throughout.(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Brady mum on critical Arians: 'He's the coach, I'm a player'
Tom Brady kept a tight lip Thursday when asked if he was surprised by the amount of public criticism he received from Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians after Week 1."He's the coach, I'm a player," Brady said, via Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times. "(We're) just trying to win a game."Arians wasn't hesitant to assign blame to his new quarterback after Brady threw two interceptions in a season-opening loss to the New Orleans Saints. The two-time Coach of the Year said the performance was "not what he expects from himself, nor what we expect." He also called on Brady to show "a little more grit (and) a little more determination" in Week 2.Asked on Wednesday whether his open criticisms could create tension with Brady, Arians appeared unconcerned."Tom and I are fine," he said. "I don't really care what other people think. So, it's just what he and I think. We left the stadium fine. We showed up today fine. There ain't nothin' to talk about."Brady signed a two-year, $50-million contract with the Buccaneers in free agency after a 20-year run with the New England Patriots. While he faced scrutiny in team meetings with the Patriots, head coach Bill Belichick never criticized Brady publicly.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Buccaneers' Evans: Week 1 loss 'not the end of the world'
Week 1 did not go as expected for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Quarterback Tom Brady's first start with his new team was spoiled by the New Orleans Saints, but wide receiver Mike Evans is not overly worried."It's not the end of the world. The outcome wasn't what we wanted, but we're back to work this week," Evans said Thursday, according to The Athletic's Greg Auman.Evans caught just one of the four targets that came his way, and the Saints' defense managed to intercept one of the passes intended for him. That interception was a hot topic following the loss, and head coach Bruce Arians initially blamed Brady before saying it was Evans' fault. The wide receiver admitted that he was responsible for the interception after misreading the Saints' coverage."The first pick was definitely my fault. We got quarters and I thought it was Cover 2," Evans told reporters, including Buccaneers staff writer Carmen Vitali. As Tampa Bay prepares to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Evans' hamstring is in better shape. The wide receiver was listed as doubtful for last Sunday's contest before being upgraded to questionable Saturday."I feel a lot better. Nobody ever plays at 100 percent anyway - especially if you're a good receiver, nobody plays always 100 percent. So I'm close enough," Evans said, according to CBS Tampa's Grace Remington.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Chiefs-Texans attendee tests positive for COVID-19
An individual who attended the NFL's season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium last Thursday tested positive for COVID-19, the Chiefs announced. The Kansas City Health Department directed 10 people to quarantine after the Chiefs identified the infected person and other attendees who potentially came into contact with the individual."I want to remind everyone that COVID-19 is anywhere and everywhere," Kansas City health director Dr. Rex Archer said in a statement Thursday. "While we're all tired of it, frustrated and even angry at how it has altered and stricken our lives and livelihoods, we must continue to think of those who have not and will not survive it."The Chiefs added that the individual entered the stadium in agreement with mask mandates and was seated in the lower level of the stadium. The reigning Super Bowl champions kicked off the 2020 season in front of 15,895 fans. While the Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars were the only teams to play with people in the stands in Week 1, four other clubs are set to open their stadiums with limited capacities in Week 2.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Ex-Brown Kirksey 'got a kick out of' being 1-0 for 1st time ever
Christian Kirksey's debut season with the Green Bay Packers is off to a good start, as he got to celebrate his first career Week 1 win after six seasons with the Cleveland Browns."This is the first time ever in my career being 1-0. I definitely got a kick out of that," the linebacker said Wednesday, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.Kirksey, who joined the Packers on a two-year, $16-million deal in March, recorded a team-high 12 tackles, including six solo, in Green Bay's 43-34 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens blew out the Browns 38-6 in Cleveland's season opener, extending the club's Week 1 winless streak to 16 years.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Belichick: 'I don't really see anybody better than' Russell Wilson
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick heaped praise onto Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on Thursday ahead of the teams' Week 2 matchup."This guy is a tremendous player," Belichick said, according to Mass Live's Chris Mason. "Honestly, I think he's in a way, maybe underrated by the media or the fans. I don't know. But I don't really see anybody better than this player. He can do everything. He's got obviously great leadership, playmaking skills. He plays very well in the most critical situations in the game."After pushing Lamar Jackson in the MVP race for most of last season, Wilson began his 2020 campaign with a near-flawless performance during a 38-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons, finishing with four touchdown passes and 322 yards while completing 31 of 35 attempts.Belichick spent several minutes gushing about Wilson's talent."You can put him up against anybody since he’s been in the league - literally anybody - in any category really," he said. "His winning percentage is impressive. He’s there for every game. Never missed a game. He’s got a great ability to do the right thing at the right time. He has tremendous vision and sees the field extremely well. I don’t think there’s a better deep ball passer in the league in terms of decision making and accuracy."He attacks literally every inch of the field you have to defend with him. Deep balls. Sidelines. The scrambles. His ability to get the ball to his playmakers in space. They have a lot of good players that are hard to handle. Put them all together and it’s orchestrated by Wilson. That’s very, very hard to defend."
Washington's Rivera: Kyler Murray 'gives me anxiety'
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray can beat teams through the air and on the ground, and that's putting Washington head coach Ron Rivera on edge."He's such an elusive guy, he gives me anxiety," Rivera told reporters on Wednesday, including The Athletic's Rhiannon Walker."... He’s a dynamic player, he really is. He’s got terrific athleticism, gets outside the pocket and extends plays. He’s got great vision and anticipation and he delivers a great football," Rivera continued.Rivera's Washington Football Team will have their hands full trying to contain the second-year quarterback this Sunday. Murray showed off the dual-threat ability he's known for in Week 1, throwing for 230 yards while adding another 91 yards on the ground.Surprisingly, Rivera isn't the only head coach anxious about Sunday's contest, as Cardinals sideline boss Kliff Kingsbury said Washington's defensive line impresses him.“It was pretty nerve-wracking watching their film. The eight sacks, causing turnovers, causing fumbles, they were really, really good," Kingsbury said Wednesday, according to Kevin Zimmerman of Arizona Sports.Washington's defensive line, which includes rookie pass-rusher Chase Young, could help ease some of Rivera's worries as the club prepares for Murray.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Arians denies creating tension with Brady: 'Tom and I are fine'
Bruce Arians isn't concerned with critics saying the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach could create a rift between him and quarterback Tom Brady due to his post-game callouts."Tom and I are fine," Arians said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. "I don't really care what other people think. So it's just what he and I think. We left the stadium fine. We showed up today fine. There ain't nothin' to talk about."After Arians said he expects "a little more grit" from Brady in Week 2 following Tampa Bay's season-opening loss to New Orleans, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre claimed that calling Brady out publicly could lead to tension."Getting to Bruce Arians' comments, true or not, I think the last person you want to call out after the first game of the year is Tom Brady," Favre said on the "The SiriusXM Blitz" on Tuesday. "Now, maybe they had a mutual truce going into the game, going into the season, 'Hey, I'm going to be hard on you. I want the guys to know we're going to treat you the same even though technically I'm not, so are you OK with it?' If they have that truce, great. If not, I think you are barking up the wrong tree."After Sunday's loss, Arians said Brady's first of two interceptions was a miscommunication between the quarterback and receiver Mike Evans, and that Brady also overthrew the pass. The coach corrected himself the following day, saying Evans was actually at fault for the pick. The Buccaneers will look for their first win of the season Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Broncos' Lindsay could miss multiple games with turf toe
Phillip Lindsay's status for Week 2 appears to be in doubt as the Denver Broncos running back deals with turf toe.Denver has yet to rule Lindsay out for Sunday's matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's believed he could potentially miss a couple of games, NFL Networks' James Palmer reports."I was happy with the results," Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday of the tailback's tests. "It wasn't as bad as it could be."The 26-year-old suffered the injury in the first half of Monday's loss to the Tennessee Titans and didn't return to the sideline after halftime.Lindsay was the Broncos' leading rusher in each of the last two seasons after they signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2018.Melvin Gordon should lead Denver's backfield while Lindsay is on the shelf, with Royce Freeman as his backup.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Broncos place Bouye on injured reserve due to shoulder injury
The Denver Broncos placed A.J. Bouye on injured reserve Wednesday after the cornerback suffered a dislocated shoulder during their season opener, the team announced.Bouye will avoid surgery and should be out just a few weeks, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The veteran corner will be eligible to return after three weeks under the NFL's new IR rules. The 29-year-old sustained the injury while attempting to break up a pass during the first half against the Tennessee Titans on Monday.Denver will now have to rely on Bryce Callahan - who missed all of last season with a foot injury - and two rookies in Michael Ojemudia and Essang Bassey in Bouye's absence. The club also promoted cornerback De'Vante Bausby to the active roster from its practice squad Wednesday.Bouye joins Broncos pass-rusher Von Miller on IR, while wide receiver Courtland Sutton and running back Phillip Lindsay are also nursing injuries.Denver acquired Bouye from the Jacksonville Jaguars this past offseason. 49ers hope Kittle will play vs. Jets despite likely not practicing
Tight end George Kittle isn't expected to practice this week due to a knee injury, but the San Francisco 49ers still hope he'll play against the New York Jets in Week 2, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner."Kittle is one guy (who) if he feels ready to go and the doctors say he's good to go, he'll play," head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday, according to John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game.Shanahan added that Kittle "fully expects" to be active Sunday, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. The two-time Pro Bowler suffered a hyperextended left knee during the second quarter against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. He wasn't ruled out of the game, but Kittle didn't register a second-half catch. The 26-year-old racked up four grabs for 44 yards during the 49ers' 24-20 season-opening loss.Kittle became the highest-paid tight end ever this offseason, signing a five-year extension worth $75 million. He also set the single-season receiving yards record at the position in 2018 (1,377) and has amassed at least 80 catches, 1,000 yards, and five touchdowns in each of the last two campaigns.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Bengals-Browns betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.AFC North rivals meet Thursday night hoping to erase disappointing Week 1 performances, as the Cleveland Browns (-6, 43.5) attempt to end their recent struggles against the Cincinnati Bengals. Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Thursday night.Betting trendsAs if you needed a reason to fade the Browns, the trends are not on their side. Cleveland is 2-8-2 against the spread in its last 12 games, which includes a 10-point loss to the Bengals as a short favorite to end the 2019 season. That was the 10th time in their last 11 tries that the Browns failed to cover against Cincinnati, part of a 10-19-1 ATS run in their last 30 divisional games. Conversely, the Bengals are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 divisional games and 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games as road underdogs. The under is in a strong spot for these two squads. The Browns are 13-1 to the under in their last 14 prime-time games and the Bengals are riding a 12-2-1 run to the under in the late-night slot. This game also begs an under play even without factoring in these teams' recent histories. The under is 10-1 in the last 11 prime-time games when two teams are coming off a loss. The total is already moving down in this one and could fall further given how these offenses looked on Sunday.Player propsAustin Hooper over 36.5 yards (-112)Hooper didn't have the best debut with the Browns last week - catching two passes for 15 yards - but fellow tight end David Njoku had 50 yards before leaving the game with a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve. His absence Thursday opens the door for Hooper to assume some of that production against a vulnerable Cincinnati defense. The Bengals allowed Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry to snag five catches for 73 yards last week. That's a good sign for Hooper, who recorded at least 37 yards in nine of 13 games last year as the primary option with the Atlanta Falcons. Without Njoku to compete for targets, expect more of the same from the Browns' top tight end.A.J. Green over 4.5 receptions (+122)In his first game as a pro, it appeared Joe Burrow had already found his favorite weapon. The Bengals quarterback targeted A.J. Green a team-high nine times on Sunday, including on the potential game-winner that was negated by pass interference.Green finished with five catches against an elite Chargers secondary. He could go for even more against the Browns, who have allowed at least five receptions to Green in four straight matchups and eight of their last 11.Best betBengals +6There are a ton of ways to go with this game, but the simplest route is to take the points against one of the worst bets in the NFL. The Browns have been favored by this many points just four times since 2014 and consistently struggled against a frisky Bengals team that thrives as an underdog. Expect a close one on Thursday.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Jets owner expects Darnold, Gase to bounce back from Week 1 'mess'
The New York Jets are still fully committed to quarterback Sam Darnold and head coach Adam Gase despite a disappointing 27-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.Team owner Christopher Johnson acknowledged the Jets' performance was "a mess," according to the New York Post's Brian Costello, but he believes Darnold and Gase will find a way to right the ship."I have so much confidence in Sam," Johnson said Wednesday, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. "He's the best player I know at turning the page, the absolute best, and I think he'll turn the page on this last game. I think you'll see an extraordinary Sam."Jets fans have yet to see a breakout year from the 2018 third overall pick, but Johnson thinks it's just a matter of time."I think we're going to see him turn out to be that quarterback we all expected," he said of Darnold, who completed 21 of 35 attempts for 215 yards and one touchdown against one interception. The Bills significantly outgained the Jets in total yards (404-254) and first downs (31-15) in the season opener. As for Gase, Johnson remains adamant that the embattled head coach is the right man to patrol New York's sideline."I think that he has a lot more in him as a head coach than some of our fans are giving him credit for," Johnson said. "I understand they want to see success. I think that they will.""I think he can work with and develop quarterbacks. I do continue to think that he is a brilliant offensive mind, especially. He has my every confidence," Johnson added, according to Costello. The Jets will try to bounce back in Week 2 when they host the San Francisco 49ers.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL Power Rankings - Week 2: Plenty of movement after eventful opening slate
A panel of theScore's football editors votes on the NFL Power Rankings.1. Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)Previous rank: 1The Chiefs thrashed Houston in the season opener despite not appearing to fire on all cylinders. That's very bad news for the rest of the league.2. Baltimore Ravens (1-0) Scott Taetsch / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 2Already the NFL's most exciting quarterback in the open field, Lamar Jackson had one of his best passing performances against Cleveland. We're not sure the sky is a high enough limit for the reigning MVP.3. New Orleans Saints (1-0)Previous rank: 3Drew Brees and the Saints spoiled Tom Brady's debut with Tampa Bay, presumably answering any early questions about which club is the team to beat in the NFC South.4. Seattle Seahawks (1-0)Previous rank: 7A productive debut for Jamal Adams, a solid blocking effort, and a thriving connection between Russell Wilson and DK Metcalf - this Seahawks roster is built for the long haul.5. Green Bay Packers (1-0)Previous rank: 10Any doubts regarding Aaron Rodgers' status among the NFL's elite quarterbacks were put to rest Sunday in Minnesota. There may not be a better duo out there than Rodgers and Davante Adams.6. Buffalo Bills (1-0) Timothy T Ludwig / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 9Granted, their first game action together was against the Jets, but Josh Allen is off to a hot start in 2020 thanks to his connection with new top target Stefon Diggs. If only Allen could cut down on the fumbles.7. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0)Previous rank: 12Pittsburgh's defense is going to be a real problem for opponents this season. There's top-tier talent at every level, highlighted by the Steelers' ability to hold Saquon Barkley to just six rushing yards on 15 attempts.8. Arizona Cardinals (1-0)Previous rank: 16Is there a new contender in the NFC West? After Kyler Murray established an instant rapport with DeAndre Hopkins to help the Cardinals secure a massive win over the rival 49ers, it sure looks like it.9. Tennessee Titans (1-0)Previous rank: 6The Titans were a bit sluggish Monday night, but they'll benefit greatly if wideout Corey Davis can turn his productive showing into a season-long breakout opposite A.J. Brown.10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) Chris Graythen / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 5Bruce Arians expects "a little more grit" from Tom Terrific after a less-than-stellar debut. We have little doubt Brady can respond.11. San Francisco 49ers (0-1)Previous rank: 4Jimmy Garoppolo's critics were vocal again after his subpar Week 1 performance. We'll soon know exactly what to expect from the 49ers quarterback as juicy matchups with the Jets, Giants, Eagles, and Dolphins loom.12. New England Patriots (1-0)Previous rank: 17Game 1 of the Cam Newton experiment was a success. New England won't be able to run the former MVP 15 times every week, but his performance against Miami was a promising one.13. Los Angeles Rams (1-0)Previous rank: 20In case you were wondering, Aaron Donald is still the scariest defender on the planet. The interior rusher made his presence felt in the Rams' upset victory over the Cowboys.14. Dallas Cowboys (0-1) Katelyn Mulcahy / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 8Speaking of Dallas, one would think an offense featuring Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb could score more than 17 points against a Rams team that ranked 17th in scoring defense last year.15. Minnesota Vikings (0-1)Previous rank: 11Issues in the secondary highlighted a disappointing season opener for Minnesota. The roster has plenty of talent, but questions at cornerback could greatly impact the Vikings' success in 2020.16. Las Vegas Raiders (1-0)Previous rank: 22Take note, NFL. The Raiders have a star on their hands, and his name is Josh Jacobs. The second-year running back scored three touchdowns on what wasn't even his most efficient day on the ground. His role in the passing game is increasing, too.17. Philadelphia Eagles (0-1)Previous rank: 13We don't want to overreact after one week, but Philadelphia is going nowhere fast if the injuries continue to mount and the offensive line keeps struggling to block for Carson Wentz.18. Houston Texans (0-1) Jamie Squire / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 14Bill O'Brien's critics won't get any quieter after the Texans' lackluster opening-night performance. Like the Eagles, Houston is in big trouble if it can't protect its franchise quarterback.19. Atlanta Falcons (0-1)Previous rank: 19The Falcons' offense was as productive as ever, but roster holes elsewhere reared their ugly heads against Seattle. With upcoming tilts against the Cowboys, Bears, and Packers, we'll soon know exactly where Atlanta stands in the NFC hierarchy.20. Washington Football Team (1-0)Previous rank: 31Kudos to Ron Rivera. Washington's Week 1 win was as much about the team's strong second half as it was about an Eagles collapse. Washington's defensive front looks scary good with the addition of Chase Young.21. Denver Broncos (0-1)Previous rank: 18Drew Lock's encore wasn't exactly a promising one, though he was missing his top target in Courtland Sutton. Denver is pretty banged up after playing just one game.22. Indianapolis Colts (0-1) Julio Aguilar / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 15On the wrong end of Week 1's biggest upset, the Colts drop out of the top 20 after losing to Jacksonville. Philip Rivers must develop better chemistry with T.Y. Hilton to lead a quick turnaround.23. Los Angeles Chargers (1-0)Previous rank: 23Forgive us if we weren't overly excited by the Chargers' victory over Cincinnati on Sunday. Tyrod Taylor offered little as the team's starter, and it may be smart to give rookie Justin Herbert the reins sooner rather than later.24. Chicago Bears (1-0)Previous rank: 25Just when we were wondering why Chicago didn't hand Nick Foles the starting quarterback job, Mitchell Trubisky tosses three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a comeback win over the Lions. It was a promising showing, but we doubt it's sustainable.25. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0)Previous rank: 32What tanking? Minshew Mania 2.0 was in full force as the Jaguars upset Indianapolis to open their 2020 campaign. Will the second-year passer go 19-for-20 every week? No. Is it extremely fun to watch him play? Heck, yes.26. New York Giants (0-1) Sarah Stier / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 26Are we beginning to get a clearer picture of Daniel Jones? The Giants passer is extremely athletic and occasionally makes plays most other quarterbacks can't, but he'll also throw in a few plays that leave observers scratching their heads. Jones won't break out unless he cleans up the latter.27. Cleveland Browns (0-1)Previous rank: 21New year, same Browns? We've heard that one before, but it's difficult to be optimistic after Kevin Stefanski and Baker Mayfield's Week 1 performance. Also, what's up with Odell?28. Detroit Lions (0-1)Previous rank: 24Detroit remains one of the league's most frustrating franchises after blowing a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. Doing so against Trubisky and the rival Bears will make this one sting a little more.29. Carolina Panthers (0-1)Previous rank: 30Matt Rhule's NFL head coaching debut was a solid one overall. Carolina showed an ability to put points on the board, though its defense appears extremely suspect.30. Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) Bobby Ellis / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious rank: 29We'd grade Joe Burrow's first pro game between a C and a B rather than the D he assigned himself. Matching up with the Chargers' defense was a tall task, and upcoming games against the Browns, Eagles, and Jaguars present an easier road.31. Miami Dolphins (0-1)Previous rank: 27FitzMagic may have finally worn off after the veteran tossed three picks in Miami's loss to the rival Patriots. Tua Time is fast approaching.32. New York Jets (0-1)Previous rank: 28Le'Veon Bell is on IR, Sam Darnold failed to show improvement in Week 1, Jamal Adams is thriving in Seattle, and Adam Gase can't lead his team out of the fire. It appears as though the Jets are in for a long season.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Bucs' Godwin placed in concussion protocol
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is in the NFL's concussion protocol, head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Wednesday, according to Pewter Report's Jon Ledyard.Arians said that Godwin, who practiced Monday and Tuesday, began to show symptoms during Wednesday's session. The former Penn State standout received a hard hit to the helmet late in the team's Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 2019 Pro Bowler was the Buccaneers' leading receiver in Week 1, hauling in six receptions for 79 yards in Tampa Bay's 34-23 loss to the New Orleans Saints. It's not all bad news for the Buccaneers' wide receiver corps. Fellow star wideout Mike Evans has been dealing with an ailing hamstring that led to him being a game-time decision last week. On Wednesday, Evans ran well and looked good in practice, Arians said, according to NFL Network's Michael Giardi. Tampa's top receiving target is coming off a quiet one-catch performance in the season opener. The Buccaneers host the Carolina Panthers in another NFC South divisional matchup in Week 2.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Bears' Robinson not expecting trade despite contract squabble
Allen Robinson expects to finish the season with the Chicago Bears despite leaking his frustration over the state of contract negotiations."Yeah, I would say so," the wide receiver said Wednesday.Robinson made headlines a day earlier when he scrubbed his social media accounts of references to the Bears. His agent later acknowledged Robinson was upset over the lack of movement in extension talks but denied rumors of a trade request."I'm a passionate person," Robinson explained. "I know I may not show it on the sidelines and stuff like that, but the things that I believe in, I really do believe in. That's just where that came from."Robinson is the final season of a three-year, $42-million contract. While other star receivers including Keenan Allen, DeAndre Hopkins, and Cooper Kupp got extensions before the season, Robinson is still waiting on his.The 27-year-old appeared calm Wednesday as he met with reporters, noting he had "a very good and spirited" conversation with Bears head coach Matt Nagy.Nagy characterized it as a "great conversation.""Our players all realize the history that we have here in regards to taking care of guys," Nagy said, adding: "He's confident that we want him to be here."Robinson has operated as the Bears' No. 1 receiver since joining the team in 2018. He had five receptions for 74 yards in Chicago's victory over the Detroit Lions to open the season."These things don't happen overnight. ... Patience and process is a part of this," Nagy said of Robinson's contract situation. "You have two sides that are working through this. It's their job to do it."Robinson didn't directly address rumors that he had requested a trade, but he did make it clear he's ready to move forward. The Bears are getting ready to face the New York Giants in Week 2."My heart and spirit has never wavered as far as the city of Chicago and playing for this organization," he said.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Big Ben sore after return: 'I feel like I was just in a car accident'
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played his first game in almost a full calendar year Monday and was quickly reacquainted with the physicality that comes with playing in the NFL.Luckily, for him and the Pittsburgh Steelers, he says his arm seems to be the only body part that is free of pain."I was saying today I feel like I was just in a car accident. Yesterday I felt like I was in a trainwreck. Hopefully, tomorrow it'll feel like I just fell off a bike. "I'm definitely sore. The good news is my arm is the only thing that doesn't hurt," Roethlisberger said, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.Roethlisberger was sacked twice Monday night but the New York Giants' defense struggled to stop his aerial attack. The 38-year-old threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns en route to a 26-16 victory. While Roethlisberger did lead his team to victory, the signal-caller admitted rust affected him during his return."There was rust early, and even late. It's not like I played perfect. I looked at some times that I maybe got up into the pocket a little too quick or didn't have the same feel in the pocket early on I'm probably used to having," he told reporters, including the Post-Gazette's Brian Batko.Roethlisberger is returning from an elbow injury that forced him to miss 14 games last season. His next test will come Sunday against the Denver Broncos.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
