Titans-Steelers won't play in Week 4 after more positive Tennessee tests
The NFL will reschedule the game between the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers to later this season after two more positive Tennessee tests - one player and one personnel member - were reported Thursday, the league announced, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network."An announcement of the new game date will be made shortly," the NFL said. The league added that Tennessee's facility would remain closed "until further notice."The Titans total now stands at 11 after the AFC South team recorded positive COVID-19 tests for four players and five personnel earlier in the week.Moving the game from Sunday to either Monday or Tuesday to allow for more testing and contact tracing was under consideration by the league prior to Thursday's announcement. The Titans-Steelers game is the first major test for the NFL's planned response to rework its schedule amid the pandemic.
Ravens sign Humphrey to 5-year extension worth reported $98.75M
The Baltimore Ravens announced Thursday they have signed cornerback Marlon Humphrey to a five-year extension through 2026.Humphrey's new deal is worth $98.75 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. He'll become the NFL's second-highest-paid cornerback at $19.75 million per year, behind only Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams.Humphrey's contract also includes $66 million in guarantees, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 24-year-old Humphrey has quickly emerged as one of the league's premier coverage defenders. He was named to his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro squad in 2019 after amassing three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries (two returned for touchdowns).Baltimore selected Humphrey 16th overall in the 2017 draft out of Alabama. He's recorded eight interceptions and broken up 44 passes across 49 games (31 starts).Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Shanahan: Mullens won't start over healthy Garoppolo
The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with more than a few roster issues at the moment, but a quarterback controversy isn't one of them.San Francisco didn't miss a beat with signal-caller Nick Mullens starting in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 3.Mullens threw for over 300 yards as his team cruised to victory. However, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said there shouldn't be any question over who the starter is once Garoppolo returns."No. That scenario doesn't exist," Shanahan said when asked if there's any chance Mullens could permanently start once Garoppolo is healthy, according to The Athletic's David Lombardi.Garoppolo threw four touchdown passes and zero interceptions this season before suffering a high ankle sprain against the New York Jets in Week 2.He owns a 20-6 career record since being acquired by the 49ers in 2017. San Francisco won the division and made a Super Bowl appearance last season with Garoppolo under center.Mullens has made nine career starts for the 49ers, carrying a 4-5 record. He's tossed 14 touchdowns to 11 interceptions over his career. The 49ers take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Kamara expects Saints to get back on track: 'Everybody will shut up'
The New Orleans Saints are facing criticism following their 1-2 start, but running back Alvin Kamara is confident that his team will rebound and quiet any negativity in the process."When you're losing it's easy to point fingers, say this and say that. But we'll get back on track and everybody will shut up," Kamara said, according to the New Orleans Advocate's Luke Johnson.Kamara also came to the defense of quarterback Drew Brees, who has completed 70.2% of his passes this season but has been scrutinized for his lack of arm strength over the Saints' three games. The 41-year-old is averaging just 7.3 yards per pass attempt, his lowest since 2010."I'm fine with Drew. It's early in the season. Everybody outside of this building has something to say, and quite honestly, I don't really give a damn," Kamara said. The Saints have leaned heavily on Kamara this season, as the running back leads the team in both rushing (153 yards) and receiving (285). He's scored six touchdowns while his 438 yards from scrimmage currently lead the NFL.New Orleans' offense has suffered in the absence of receiver Michael Thomas, who's missed the last two games with an ankle injury. Thomas was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Titans-Steelers postponed following positive virus tests
The NFL will reschedule Sunday's game between the Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers due to the positive COVID-19 tests on Tennessee. The league plans to move the game to Monday or Tuesday, which will provide time for more tests.
Gruden: Unmasked Raiders at charity event 'aware of their mistake'
Jon Gruden insisted the Las Vegas Raiders are taking COVID-19 concerns seriously two days after several players were seen without masks at Darren Waller's charity event."We've done an excellent job," the head coach said Wednesday, according to Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "Last night, it was addressed with our players. They walked in with their masks on. There was an event - sometimes you go to a restaurant, you take your mask off. They're aware of their mistake. But we've done an excellent job using our masks and taking proper care of each other and everybody."The Raiders drew scrutiny Monday evening after images and videos involving unmasked players circulated around the Internet. Quarterback Derek Carr was among the unmasked attendees.
Broncos-Jets betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Two of the six 0-3 teams left this season face off Thursday when the favored Denver Broncos (-2, 39.5) travel to play the New York Jets, who are perhaps a loss or two away from needing to find a new head coach. Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Thursday night's contest.Betting trendsThis may come as a shock, but this isn't a great spot to bet on Adam Gase after the Jets' 36-7 loss to the Colts on Sunday. The Jets head coach is 11-22-1 against the spread in his career after a loss, and he's 10-16-1 ATS following a double-digit defeat. Gase is also 5-11-1 ATS after his team scores 14 or fewer points in the previous game. His teams are averaging 16.5 points in those 17 subsequent contests.Gase is 0-4 ATS on Thursday nights, too, while the Broncos are riding a 10-3 ATS run on Thursday games. They're also 6-2 ATS over their last eight after a loss under head coach Vic Fangio, whose defense is holding opponents to 16.4 points per game when his side is favored.A matchup between winless teams also favors Denver here. The favorite is 6-3 ATS over the last nine meetings between 0-3 teams, including consecutive 24-point victories and an average scoring margin of 11.7 points. The road team is also 9-3 ATS in such contests since 1996.Need more fuel to fade New York? Four teams have started 0-3 with three double-digit losses since 2011. A fourth loss followed for all four squads, and it came by 10-plus points in an ATS defeat. Also, the last six teams in that spot all scored 14 or fewer points, with five of those games going under.Player propsMelvin Gordon over 60.5 rushing yards (-112)With a new quarterback this week in Brett Rypien, the Broncos will likely rely heavily on their workhorse back. If they do, Gordon is a solid bet to produce, as he's topped 60.5 rushing yards in 30 of his last 36 games when given 15-plus carries.Gordon recorded 78 yards in Week 1 and 70 yards in Week 2 before getting held to eight carries for 26 yards against a stout Buccaneers defense. The Jets' run defense is solid, but it's still allowed the eighth-most rushing yards (344) to running backs through three weeks.Braxton Berrios under 40.5 receiving yards (-112)Berrios' storyline has been fun for fantasy owners and beleaguered Jets fans, but don't expect it to continue Thursday. The third-year receiver had registered six career catches entering this season before notching at least four grabs for 59 yards in each of the last two weeks.Over his four-year college career at Miami, Berrios logged three straight games with 40-plus yards just three times in 46 contests. With Jamison Crowder returning as Sam Darnold's top target, don't expect the 5-foot-9 Berrios to fill up the box score this week.Best betJets under 19.5 points (-104)The Jets' offense is the league's worst, and it has been for nearly Gase's entire tenure. The Jets are averaging 12.3 points per game this season. They've also scored 20-plus points in just six of 19 games under Gase, and the team has reached that mark only three times in 11 tries after a loss. Both clubs should struggle to score Thursday, so the game under is a safe play, too. The better route is to fade New York's inept offense coming off a short week of preparation.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Vrabel: 'Nobody's to blame' for Titans' COVID-19 outbreak
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel doesn't want any finger-pointing regarding his team's recent COVID-19 outbreak that will postpone their Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers."Nobody's to blame. We're in a pandemic," said Vrabel, according to NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala. "Unfortunately, things happen."The Titans will play the Steelers on either Monday or Tuesday after four players and five personnel members tested positive for COVID-19."Some of them are indeed experiencing flu-like symptoms, (but) nothing out of the ordinary," said Vrabel, per Kinkhabwala. "We anticipate they will feel better shortly."Vrabel confirmed he wasn't among the five personnel who tested positive.Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, long snapper Beau Brinkley, and practice squad tight end Tommy Hudson were all placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday. A fourth player who's yet to be named reportedly tested positive in the latest round of testing. The Minnesota Vikings - the Titans' Week 3 opponents - haven't recorded a positive test.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Broncos' Casey out for season with biceps tear
Denver Broncos defensive lineman Jurrell Casey will miss the remainder of the 2020 season with a biceps injury, head coach Vic Fangio announced, according to Mike Klis of 9News.Casey believes he suffered the injury in the second half of the Broncos' Week 3 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Klis adds.Prior to 2020, Casey spent nine seasons with the Tennessee Titans, where he tallied 51 career sacks. The Broncos will also be without wide receiver Courtland Sutton and linebacker Von Miller for the remainder of the season due to injury. How many fireworks will Mahomes, Jackson provide Monday?
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Two of the NFL's best quarterbacks face off Monday when Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (-3.5, 53.5) host Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Here's what could be in store for the two former MVPs.Ravens can't stop MahomesIf Mahomes plays anything like he did in his first two meetings with Baltimore, it could be a long night for the Ravens' defense. In 2018, the Chiefs star threw for 377 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 53 attempts vs. Baltimore. His 2019 performance was even better, as he tallied 374 yards and three touchdowns with a completion percentage of 73% - the seventh-highest mark in his career. His high usage in that first contest bodes well for this one. When Mahomes attempts at least 44 passes, he's averaging 3.16 touchdowns per game. He's also among the NFL's best against the blitz, which could mean trouble for a Ravens defense that blitzed a league-high 54.9% of the time in 2019.In a "down" year for him thus far, Mahomes has already thrown for 513 yards and five touchdowns, including two against the Chargers' stacked secondary. He has 17 touchdowns over his last five games dating back to the playoffs, and the Chiefs will need similar production from him to steal a road win in Baltimore.Jackson in elite formAfter running away with the MVP race a year ago, Jackson has been even more impressive through two games this season.Nobody averaged more touchdowns per attempt than the Ravens quarterback in 2019, when he scored on 9% of his passes - tied for the second-highest mark in the modern era (min. 300 attempts). This year, he's still scoring on 8.2% of his passing attempts, but he's upped his passing yards per game (239.5), yards per attempt (9.8), and completion percentage (77.6%) from last season. He already has four passing touchdowns on 50 attempts this year despite easing up late in two blowout victories. He's also yet to rush for one, which is due for positive regression after seven scores on the ground in 2019. The Chiefs have struggled against mobile quarterbacks, allowing five rushing touchdowns to QBs a year ago - tied for second most by any team.Kansas City's defense hasn't looked particularly sharp this year, either. Deshaun Watson played one of his best games in Week 1 in spite of a modest stat line, and Justin Herbert torched Kansas City in his first-ever start on short notice. All but one of Herbert's attempts came from shotgun or pistol, which provides a blueprint for the pistol-heavy Ravens to exploit the Chiefs on Monday night.Expect points on MondayIf this game plays out like oddsmakers expect, we'll be hearing these two quarterbacks' names all night.Since he became the full-time starter in 2018, Mahomes is averaging 2.7 touchdowns per regular-season start and has been responsible for 49.9% of the Chiefs' scoring production. Jackson has averaged 2.8 touchdowns since the start of 2019 and has a 49.1% share of the Ravens' scores. If those trends hold up, a betting total of 53.5 would suggest a pair of scores for each quarterback - with the potential for more in a shootout. With the way these two offenses look, there's no telling how many points we'll see on Monday night.(Odds source: theScore Bet)Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. NFL bad line of the week: A get-right game for the Texans
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Detecting a bad line in the NFL is tough, but they certainly exist. With Week 4 on the horizon, here's how we're approaching the board.Week 4 linesMatchup SpreadBroncos @ JetsDEN -3Ravens @ WFTBAL -13Saints @ LionsNO -4Chargers @ BuccaneersTB -7.5Colts @ BearsIND -2.5Cardinals @ PanthersARI -3.5Jaguars @ BengalsCIN -3Vikings @ TexansHOU -3.5Seahawks @ DolphinsSEA -6.5Steelers @ TitansPIT -1Browns @ CowboysDAL -4.5Giants @ RamsLAR -13Bills @ RaidersBUF -3Patriots @ ChiefsKC -7Eagles @ 49ersSF -6.5Falcons @ PackersGB -7.5Bad line of the week: Texans (-3.5 vs. Vikings)The Texans' 0-3 start is hardly surprising. The franchise went 8-3 in one-score games in 2019 and shipped a top-five wide receiver in the league to the Cardinals during the offseason. They were a regression candidate from the start after going 10-6 last year. However, as "bad" as the Texans' record is, it looks a lot more optimistic when adjusting for competition. The Texans started the season against three of the best teams in the AFC - the Chiefs, Ravens, and Steelers - but are still in the top half of the league in yards per play (5.7) and yards per play allowed (5.7). Rarely is a wash in net yards per play a win, but you have to feel OK if you're Houston considering the strength of schedule. Now, quarterback Deshaun Watson and the offense can let it fly against a defense that looks flat-out lost through three weeks.Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer had some daunting units in the past, but this group has a long ways to go. Minnesota ranks No. 23 in the league in yards per play (6.1) allowed, No. 30 in yards per completion (11.9), and No. 31 in points against per game (34.0).The Vikings were 0-2 against the spread before coming through for bettors in Week 3. They lost 31-30 to the Titans but covered as three-point 'dogs. Now, Minnesota will hit the road as modest underdogs - a role Zimmer's struggled in.The Vikings are just 2-7 against the spread the last nine as road underdogs and 3-7 ATS the last 10 when getting points in general. Minnesota could find it tough to get up following a narrow loss to Tennessee, while Houston is 10-4-1 ATS the last 15 following an ATS loss. This is the ideal spot to buy low on the Texans, as they're likely at the bottom of their market range. Expect Houston to get its first win of the season in resounding fashion.(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Bears name Foles starting QB after comeback win
Head coach Matt Nagy named Nick Foles the Chicago Bears starting quarterback over Mitchell Trubisky ahead of the team's Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts."He's our starter moving forward," Nagy said, according to Bears writer Larry Mayer.Foles came off the bench Sunday to lead the Bears to a 16-point fourth-quarter comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons. The veteran signal-caller completed 16 of 29 pass attempts for 188 yards and three touchdowns against one interception after taking over for Trubisky.Trubisky, who posted a 2-0 record to start the 2020 season, said after the game against the Falcons that Chicago's decision to bench him "happened out of nowhere."The 2017 second overall pick has completed 59.3% of his pass attempts while throwing six touchdowns against three interceptions in three appearances this year.Foles owns a 26-22 career record as a starter over nine seasons, but his last win came in 2018 with the Philadelphia Eagles. He lost all four of his starts during an injury-plagued campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019.The Bears acquired the Super Bowl LII MVP through a trade with the Jaguars in March, weeks before declining the fifth-year option on Trubisky's rookie contract.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Bears lose Cohen for season with torn ACL
Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy confirmed Monday that running back Tarik Cohen tore his ACL in Week 3 and will be placed on injured reserve.Cohen suffered the injury during Sunday's win over the Atlanta Falcons."You love the kid," Nagy told reporters. "He's worked hard to get to this point. We'll be in his corner and he'll be in our corner."He rushed for 21 yards on two carries while also adding another 20 receiving yards before exiting Sunday's contest. The running back totaled over 2,600 yards from scrimmage during his first four seasons in the NFL.Cohen recently agreed to a three-year contract extension worth up to $18.125 million. The deal includes $9.5 million fully guaranteed.Chicago's rushing offense will likely lean on David Montgomery in Cohen's absence. Montgomery finished with 45 rushing yards in Sunday's victory.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Report: Seahawks' Carson suffered minor knee sprain, could play Week 4
An MRI confirmed that Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson suffered a minor knee sprain and all of his ligaments are intact, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Carson could be ready for Seattle's Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins, Pelissero adds. The tailback exited Sunday's contest against the Dallas Cowboys after being hurt on a fourth-quarter play when defensive tackle Trysten Hill appeared to twist his leg.Carson has accumulated 157 rushing yards this season, adding three receiving touchdowns. He racked up 64 yards on 14 carries against Dallas before suffering the injury.Carlos Hyde and Travis Homer would carry the load at running back for Seattle if Carson misses time.Hill will likely be fined but not suspended for twisting Carson's leg, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Seahawks might also have Jamal Adams on the field next week. Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Monday the safety suffered a first-degree groin strain and is considered day-to-day after being forced out of the Cowboys game, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.Additionally, first-round linebacker Jordyn Brooks has an MCL sprain and will likely miss a couple of weeks, a source told Pelissero.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. 5 betting takeaways from NFL Week 3
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. The third week of the 2020 NFL season didn't disappoint, with nine games decided by one score - including one that was never decided at all. Here are five betting takeaways from Week 3.Packers make statement on SNFFor those who doubted the validity of the Packers' 13-win season a year ago - and count me among them - Sunday's 37-30 road win over the Saints (-3) is further evidence Green Bay will be a force to be reckoned with in a wide-open NFC race. After their third straight game with at least 35 points, the Packers have now scored the fifth-most points (122) of any team in the Super Bowl era through their first three contests, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky. The defense is still a concern after allowing 21-plus points in all three wins, but at this rate, Aaron Rodgers is giving bettors enough reasons to buy into the Packers' 8-1 title price.Falcons do it againOh, Atlanta. If any team was going to become the first in NFL history to blow consecutive 15-point fourth-quarter leads, it had to be these Falcons, who suffered one of the worst collapses in NFL history a week ago against the Cowboys. They did it again this week, allowing 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to the Bears (+3) and backup quarterback Nick Foles, who threw three touchdowns off the bench. If you were brave enough to bet the Falcons as favorites this week, it might be your last chance for a while.Eagles tie as home chalkHold your nose, Eagles bettors. For the third straight game, Philadelphia (-5) failed to win outright as a favorite, becoming only the third team this century to be favored in its first three games without winning any of them. This time, Philly tied the Bengals for the NFL's 13th stalemate since 1990 and the first since 2014 to involve a favorite of more than a point. The Eagles are somehow only a half-game out of the NFC East lead, but Sunday's tie certainly doesn't reflect well on their chances of making the playoffs. It also spells trouble for these two squads next week - teams coming off a tie are 8-16 against the spread since 1997.Jets, Giants jockey for No. 1 pickThe worst teams in the NFL reside in New York, and they showed just how low they can go on Sunday. The Giants (+3) were blasted by 27 points at home against the 49ers' C-squad, while the Jets (+11.5) were outscored by the Colts' defense in a 29-point smackdown.Through three games, the Jets and Giants rank last and second-last, respectively, in points scored and point differential, and only the Eagles have a worse margin against the spread. Good luck betting either of them the rest of the way.Wilson, Allen make MVP casesRussell Wilson entered Week 3 as the MVP front-runner. He was once again masterful on Sunday, though he has company this week atop the MVP oddsboard.Let's start with Wilson (+200 to win MVP), who became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw at least four touchdown passes in each of his team's first three games after tossing another five in Sunday's win over the Cowboys (+5.5). He would have had another if DK Metcalf hadn't fumbled at the goal line. Regardless, his 14 touchdowns are already the most through three games in NFL history and easily enough to keep him as the clear MVP favorite.Rodgers (+600) is right behind him after throwing three touchdowns in Sunday's win over New Orleans. He's tied with Lamar Jackson (+600) and Patrick Mahomes (+600) ahead of their Monday night clash. And don't write off preseason long shot Josh Allen (+1200), whose development as a passer has led the Bills to a 3-0 record for the first time since 2011.His side nearly blew a 28-3 lead to the Rams (+2), but Allen's fifth touchdown of the day sealed the win and gave him 12 total on the season - second only to Wilson. If he keeps up this pace, and the Bills finish with a better record than the Seahawks, Allen could pay off nicely for those who grabbed him at 50-1 or longer.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Pederson won't consider benching Wentz: 'That is a knee-jerk reaction'
Despite a disastrous start to the 2020 campaign, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is a long way from considering benching quarterback Carson Wentz."No, no. You don't go there," Pederson said on 94 WIP Sports Radio Monday, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks. "That is a knee-jerk reaction. That is a reaction to things that are sometimes, you know, the aura that is out there. That is not what we believe internally and we are going to continue to get better."Carson is our quarterback. We are going to get it fixed, he is going to get it fixed and you know, we got a long season - we are only a half-game out of first place for goodness sakes. The whole division right now is not playing very good football. So, we are not that far off."Hampered by poor offensive line play, lack of continuity with his receivers, and questionable decision-making, Wentz has struggled mightily this season. He's completed just under 60% of his passes and currently leads the league with six interceptions through three contests.Following two straight losses to open the year, Philadelphia's offense failed to find consistency against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3, leading to a 23-23 tie.Late in overtime, Pederson surprisingly punted the ball instead of attempting a 64-yard field goal for the win. Many questioned the decision, and the head coach admitted he would have completed the series differently looking back."I hate the fact that the game came down to that one play," he said, per WIP's Andrew Porter. "We should have won the game, probably in regulation looking back on it with some of the execution we had ... Fast forward to the end of the game, obviously (we were) well within Jake (Elliott)'s range - would have been fourth-and-7 at the time."But looking back on it, I would have probably gone the other way and maybe taken a shot down the field and put the ball up in the air," he added. The 0-2-1 Eagles have a road date with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4 before matching up with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Payton: 2 straight losses a 'gut check' for Saints
With a 37-30 defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, the New Orleans Saints have now lost two straight games for the first time since the first two weeks of the 2017 campaign. Head coach Sean Payton made no excuses for his team after dropping to 1-2."It's been a while since we felt that, but three years ago, we were 0-2. A little bit of a gut check, and yet we aren't playing well enough," Payton said, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett. "Let's not fool ourselves. We're making too many mistakes. We aren't playing disciplined enough on both sides of the ball. That's really just the truth."You're frustrated as a coach because that starts with us. We have to do a better job. We have to get ready to play a better game against Detroit (next week)."New Orleans has been uncharacteristically inconsistent on offense thus far, although star receiver Michael Thomas has missed the last two weeks due to injury. The Saints rank 17th in total yards per game, while quarterback Drew Brees has often struggled to find his rhythm.Brees had his most productive outing this season against Green Bay, throwing for 288 yards and three touchdowns, but he knows his offense can be more efficient moving forward."Listen, I love our team," the veteran quarterback said. "I love the way we work, the way we prepare. But, obviously, there are things that need to be corrected so we can get back on track."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. 9 takeaways from Week 3
Sunday Rundown recaps the most important developments from the day's action and examines the significance of those events moving forward.Josh Allen is chaos Timothy T Ludwig / Getty Images Sport / GettyIn the Buffalo Bills' 35-32 win over the Los Angeles Rams, which was somehow much wilder than even that close score indicates, quarterback Josh Allen made his strongest case yet against his many doubters. He also still found a way to be hilariously maddening.Allen staked Buffalo to a 28-3 lead only to have the Rams storm all the way back to go ahead 32-28 - because 28-3 leads in NFL games are toxic, apparently. Then came Allen's game-winning drive, which went into the books as having consumed 11 plays, 75 yards, and 4:15. But Allen made it far more bizarre than that.He took a sack, completed a 22-yard pass on third-and-22, misguidedly attempted a lateral that bounced out of bounds, and was called for a 15-yard facemask while trying to avoid a sack, right when the Bills could least afford to lose 15 yards. He also completed a 17-yard pass on third-and-25, which set up a fourth-and-8 that fell incomplete but resulted in a first down anyway due to an iffy pass-interference call. He then found Tyler Kroft for a touchdown with 15 seconds to go. And that was that. Bills win. It's probably going to be like this with Allen - plenty of promise mixed with lots of exasperation. It can be exhilarating. It can be irritating. It's going to keep a lot of folks paying attention, even if it's just to see what might happen next. As things now stand, the Bills are 3-0 and all alone in first place in the AFC East. Can anyone stop Russell Wilson? Abbie Parr / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Seattle Seahawks quarterback just keeps making his MVP case. Yeah, it's still only September, but his numbers are staggering.Wilson threw for 315 yards and five more touchdowns in a 38-31 win against the Cowboys, and he might have had another TD pass had DK Metcalf not pulled a Leon Lett in the first quarter. Wilson also marched the Seahawks 75 yards on eight plays in just 2:12 on the game-winning drive, which included a clutch completion to Greg Olsen on fourth-and-3. Ho-hum.The Seahawks are at the Miami Dolphins next before heading back home to face the winless Minnesota Vikings and then into their bye week. The way Wilson is playing, there's no telling how many TD passes he'll have by then.OMG, the Falcons Kevin C. Cox / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Atlanta Falcons blew a 16-point lead against the Chicago Bears in the final 6:30 just one week after blowing a 20-point lead against the Dallas Cowboys, which featured a curling routine on an onside kick. For those keeping score at home, that's back-to-back losses despite having a win probability of greater than 98% in the fourth quarter of both games. How is that possible? And how long until Dan Quinn has his key fob to the facility taken away? That'll probably do it for Trubisky in Chicago Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyLet's not overlook who that comeback Falcons loss came against: Bears quarterback Nick Foles.Foles has bounced around the league - five teams in nine NFL seasons - but he also famously beat Tom Brady to win a Super Bowl in one of his two stops with the Philadelphia Eagles. That was three years and two teams ago.Chicago traded for Foles this offseason as insurance for Mitchell Trubisky. Foles' role as the backup officially lasted for exactly two-and-a-half games. He threw for three touchdowns and an interception, and it was enough.Barring an injury or a major faceplant of some sort, it's safe to assume the job is Foles' going forward. The Bears already declined to pick up Trubisky's fifth-year option for 2021, so he'll likely be playing somewhere else next season.A tie that tells the tale of two QBs Mitchell Leff / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals finished in a 23-23 tie - both teams are sitting at 0-2-1 - but there was much more to like about Joe Burrow's performance for Cincinnati than what Carson Wentz showed for Philadelphia.Burrow completed 31 of 44 passes to nine different receivers for 312 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He was also sacked eight times and hit an astounding 18 times. He clearly needs more help from his offensive line, but he's also not turning the ball over - just one interception and one lost fumble through three games.Wentz, too, has problems with his offensive line, but he continues to make plenty of mistakes. He threw a paltry 4.8 yards per attempt and two more interceptions - giving him six on the season. Unlike Burrow, who was playing in just his third NFL game, Wentz is in his fourth season and on his second (expensive) contract, with a rookie the Eagles just drafted in the second round peering over his shoulder.Burrow and Wentz might have finished in a tie, but while the former has time to improve, the latter has a growing legion of doubters wondering when he finally will.New York football bad Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThe New York Giants lost 36-9 at home to the San Francisco 49ers, who have half their team in an infirmary ward. The New York Jets, meanwhile, lost 36-7 at the Indianapolis Colts. By the time you read this, Daniel Jones may have fumbled again and Sam Darnold might have thrown another pick-6. It's that bad in the Big Apple.Through six combined games, the Jets and Giants have zero wins, and they've been outscored by a total of 98 points, which is more than 16 per game. October doesn't arrive until Thursday but it's already possible to imagine the two New York teams vying for the top two picks in next year's draft.Pittsburgh defense good Joe Sargent / Getty Images Sport / GettyAfter spotting the Houston Texans a 21-17 halftime lead, the Pittsburgh Steelers shut out their opponents the rest of the way by allowing just 51 total yards and two first downs. Yes, that was against Deshaun Watson. The Texans ran only 14 plays during the entire second half. Watson, who was 14-for-18 for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and a passer rating of 150.5 in the first half, was sacked on three of those plays. David Johnson ran the ball four times in the second half for a total of three yards. The Steelers used glue and duct tape to erect an 8-8 season last year without Ben Roethlisberger, and they managed that feat because of their defense, which led the league in sacks and takeaways. They're now 3-0 with a trip to the 3-0 Tenessee Titans up next.Gronk finally gets involved Chris Graythen / Getty Images Sport / GettyAfter catching just two passes and getting targeted a mere four times through two games, Rob Gronkowski was the Tampa By Buccaneers' leading pass-catcher in a 28-10 win at the Denver Broncos. Brady threw at him seven times, and six resulted in completions for a total of 48 yards. It was like 2014 all over again, except in pewter. There's no telling what it all means, except that Gronk may have supplanted Cameron Brate on the tight end depth chart. Brate has barely played this season, and he again wasn't targeted on Sunday.Scoring is up, up, up Sean Gardner / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe first two weeks of the season produced more points than any year in NFL history. That trend continued in Week 3, with 14 teams scoring at least 30 points. And Kansas City Chiefs-Baltimore Ravens is yet to come. This is football now, at every level. Offensive coaches have discovered the efficiencies of the passing game, all manners of deception, and the use of space; rules changes instituted in the name of both player safety (wink) and a desire for more excitement have only abetted this reality. Meanwhile, your friendly neighborhood defensive coordinator can only pop antacids and turn uneasily as he tries to get some sleep on a cot in his office.Dom Cosentino is a senior features writer at theScore.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Packers' Lazard lauds Rodgers as NFL's 'best deep-ball thrower'
The Green Bay Packers moved to 3-0 with a win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night, and the driving force behind the victory was the blossoming connection between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and receiver Allen Lazard.Rodgers and Lazard connected on two huge plays - a 48-yard pass in the second quarter and a 72-yarder in the third - that both led to touchdowns for Green Bay.Lazard wasn't surprised that his quarterback dominated New Orleans downfield."I think we have the best deep-ball thrower in the league, if not NFL history, as well," said Lazard, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. The third-year wideout's 146 yards were a career high. He also caught one of Rodgers' three touchdown passes. The star signal-caller and head coach Matt LaFleur appear to have found a new level of chemistry through the first three weeks of their second season together.Green Bay's offense entered Week 3 as the NFL's top unit, averaging 505 yards and 42.5 points per game.Despite top receiver Davante Adams being sidelined against the Saints with a hamstring injury, Rodgers and Co. didn't miss a beat in the NFC showdown."Right now, our offense, I feel really good about it," said the quarterback. The Packers will try and stay hot in Week 4 against the winless Atlanta Falcons.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Patriots' Andrews likely out Week 3 following thumb surgery
New England Patriots center David Andrews is likely to miss Week 3 and possibly beyond with a broken thumb on his snapping hand, according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer. The 28-year-old had surgery this week on the injured thumb, Glazer added. The five-year veteran is attempting to snap with his non-dominant hand in a bid to be active for Week 3.Andrews missed the entire 2019 season after being diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. His Week 1 start against the Miami Dolphins this season was his first game since the Patriots' Super Bowl LIII win.The former Georgia product has started 59 games since signing with New England as an undrafted free agent in 2015.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. 49ers' Mullens to start at QB vs. Giants
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed to KNBR radio that Nick Mullens will start at quarterback Sunday in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Garoppolo suffered a high ankle sprain during his team's Week 2 victory over the New York Jets. The 49ers initially believed the injury wasn't severe and left a small chance for him to play, but he was unable to practice this week.Mullens will make his first start for the 49ers since 2018. The 25-year-old owns a 3-5 record over eight career starts. He's thrown 13 touchdown passes to 11 interceptions since entering the league.Shanahan expressed confidence in Mullen's experience and ability earlier this week."Nick has got a lot of playing time with us, and 2018 prepared him for moments like this. He always does a good job in practice, and (we're) excited to see him get his opportunity," Shanahan said, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.Shanahan provided an update on other key members of the offense as well. Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert will miss the Week 3 contest, while George Kittle will be a game-time decision, according to The Sacramento Bee's Chris Biderman.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Julio's Week 3 status 'up in the air' due to hamstring injury
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones has been battling a hamstring injury early in the 2020 campaign, and his status for Week 3 is "up in the air," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Jones, who has played through various injuries throughout his career, aggravated his hamstring during last week's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The star pass-catcher didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, and his official status for Sunday's matchup with the Chicago Bears has yet to be determined.Head coach Dan Quinn said Friday that Jones will be on the sideline for practice and will be a game-time decision, according to team reporter William McFadden. The 31-year-old was held to 24 yards on two receptions against Dallas while battling the injury after opening the season with a nine-catch, 157-yard performance against the Seattle Seahawks.Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage will likely see a bump in targets if Jones is unable to suit up in Week 3.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. However, hope is on the way in the form of a get-right game against the Bengals.Consider this the sequel to the Browns' matchup last week, when Baker Mayfield, Odell Beckham, and Co. rebounded thanks to Cincy's generous defense. After being sacked eight times already this season, Wentz will find similar success facing a pass rush that's struggled to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks and has just a pair of sacks through two weeks. We should also expect a lot of volume in this one. The Bengals and Eagles rank among the top seven in plays per game and were highlighted in Pat Thorman's Snaps and Pace column at Establish the Run this week. With time to operate and plenty of fast-paced action, Wentz will get back on track and remind fantasy managers how dangerous he can be when Philly's offense is running hot.Boone's projection: 276 passing yards, 2 passing TDs, 9 rushing yardsOther QBs to start
NFL Week 3 best bets: 'Dogs will be barking Sunday
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Entering Week 3, I'm 2-3-1 on my NFL best bets. Let's see if we can kick it into high gear this weekend. Here are our best bets for Week 3:San Francisco 49ers (-4, 41) at New York GiantsI like a lot of underdogs this week, and the Giants are my favorite of the bunch. I played against the 49ers last week in a bad spot, but they covered easily against the high school team known as the New York Jets. I'm going back to the well with the Giants on Sunday. No team has been hit harder by the injury bug this year than the 49ers. The list is too long to name every player, but San Francisco is favored on the road without key starters Jimmy Garoppolo, Raheem Mostert, Nick Bosa, and Richard Sherman, to name a few.The Giants are 0-2, but they played hard in losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears. New York had a chance to beat Chicago on the final play and stayed even with Pittsburgh into the fourth quarter. The Giants are without star running back Saquon Barkley, but that's nothing compared to the 49ers' mash unit.I got the Giants +4 and took them on the moneyline as well. San Francisco is simply too beat-up, and with backup quarterback Nick Mullens expected to start, I like the Giants plus the points at home.Pick: Giants +4Houston Texans at Pittsburgh Steelers (-4, 45)This is an interesting game between the 0-2 Texans and 2-0 Steelers. The game is in Pittsburgh, yet the Steelers are laying just 4 points. The number is low because Houston's losses have come against the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens - the two best teams in the AFC. Meanwhile, the Steelers have defeated the Giants and Denver Broncos, two teams with a combined record of 0-4.I like playing this angle in Week 3 because the public perception is that the Steelers are the much better team, and the betting percentages reflect that. As of Friday, 60% of bets and 80% of the money was backing Pittsburgh at the short number. I'm going against the public here and taking the Texans +4 in what I expect to be a tight game. Don't be surprised if the Texans spring the outright road upset.Pick: Texans +4Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints (-3, 52)The one favorite I'm betting in Week 3 is the Saints -3. When I see people on Twitter say, "I don't understand this line," that's typically a game that I want to hit. Everyone loves the Packers as underdogs this week. This is a great bounce-back spot for the Saints after getting upset by the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. The Packers have rolled both the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions but after two weeks, they look like two of the bottom five teams in the NFL. Remember, following the Saints' win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1, they were considered the best team in the NFC. Now after one loss, the popular thinking is, "How can New Orleans be a 3-point favorite over the Packers?"This game is shaping up to be one of the biggest Pros vs. Joes matchups of Week 3 with the public all over Green Bay. As of Friday, just 25% of bets were on New Orleans. However, a whopping 92% of the money was on the Saints, an indication that sharp bettors are laying the three points. I'll follow the money on this one and back the Saints as well.Pick: Saints -3(Odds source: theScore Bet)(Betting percentages source: Sports Insights)Thomas Casale is theScore's supervising editor of sports betting. NFL Week 3 teaser: Take the points with Lions, Washington
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We hit on our Week 2 teaser quite comfortably, so let's use that to kick-start a nice winning run. Here's what we've got for Week 3:Washington Football Team @ Cleveland BrownsLine: Washington +7Teaser line: Washington +13The Browns came away with the win last week - despite a backdoor touchdown denying the cover - and it was never really in doubt. Now they play at home against Washington, which will offer a real chance to move above .500 and build on the momentum of last week's win.But this one is far less straightforward for Cleveland, and, no matter how you spin it, it's hard to justify laying so many points with an offense that ranks 26th in efficiency. The Browns racked up 215 yards on the ground last week to beat the Cincinnati Bengals but won't have nearly as much success against a talented Washington front seven. The visitors come into this week ranking first in the league in defensive efficiency and against the pass, and we've seen little from Baker Mayfield to believe he can have success against a defense that provides resistance.Washington also ranks first in the NFL in sacks with 11 through two weeks, and Mayfield is 30th in the NFL with a 35.3 completion percentage when under pressure. Combine that with a Washington offense that's getting into a bit of a rhythm - Terry McLaurin just roasted Patrick Peterson and Antonio Gibson is gaining confidence - and there's a strong chance for an upset here. Take the 13 points.Detroit Lions at Arizona CardinalsLine: Lions +5.5Teaser line: Lions +11.5Matt Patricia is firmly placed in the hot seat, but he gets help this week with the return of Kenny Golladay sure to boost an offense that came into the season with high expectations but has looked surprisingly average thus far.Darrell Bevell's offense relies on the deep pass, and Golladay's ability opens up the underneath balls for the likes of Marvin Jones and T.J. Hockenson, as well as D'Andre Swift, who's quickly becoming a favorite target of Matthew Stafford. The Cardinals have looked sharp on defense but haven't exactly been tested. Arizona will find success again on offense - you can't stop Kyler Murray - but Jeff Okudah had the chance to shake off the rust last week and Desmond Trufant could return to the secondary for Detroit. The Lions played in 12 one-score games last year - including seven in eight starts by Stafford - and this has all the makings of another close one in the desert.Full teaser: Washington +13, Lions +11.5 ($110 to win $100)(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. Prescott, Hurst joining forces for suicide prevention in offseason
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Atlanta Falcons tight Hayden Hurst will team up this offseason to aid suicide prevention, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. Both players received an outpouring of support following a viral clip of Hurst chasing down Prescott after Dallas' Week 2 win over Atlanta to commend the quarterback for publically revealing his battle with depression and anxiety.Prescott and Hurst, whose own battle with depression led to a suicide attempt, vowed to work together in the future. The Cowboys star said Thursday that plans are already in motion."Such a moment. Obviously excited after a big win like that but for him to just come over there, us embrace that moment," Prescott said of the discussion with Hurst. "He was telling me about what him and his mom are doing with their foundation. I'm excited to work with him. We've talked since. Excited in the offseason for us to get something going. Our teams have already started making steps to do that while we're in the midst of the season."Prescott sought help for his mental health issues this past offseason after his older brother Jace's suicide. The quarterback has been widely applauded for opening up about his struggles. Green Bay Packers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers added his voice to that chorus of praise Wednesday, calling Prescott's willingness to be openly vulnerable "true courage."Prescott said he was grateful that Rodgers spoke out."I appreciate those, and I respect Aaron," Prescott said. "(I) respect Aaron as much as probably any other quarterback we have in this league. Obviously his game, but for him to just come out (and) say what he said, and (I) loved what he said about people's personal things don't affect any of us, how we feel about ourselves. I think that's huge. It's about what you, with self-talks and the stuff you see in your own mind. I thank Aaron for having my support and coming out and speaking as he did."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Why the Rams could bounce back this year
Heading into the season, the common narrative surrounding the Los Angeles Rams suggested their small championship window might have closed. The Rams reached the Super Bowl two years ago and went all-in by trading away draft capital and loading up on expensive contracts. Then, last year, injuries affected the offensive line and some of the shine on quarterback Jared Goff and head coach Sean McVay wore off. Though they finished 9-7, the Rams looked like a team with a bloated salary cap, and the rest of the league had figured out how to stop them. With the NFC West appearing formidable, the notion that the Rams would have a middling 2020 (or worse) gained plenty of momentum. But after they held off the Dallas Cowboys at home and routed the Philadelphia Eagles on the road, it's fair to wonder whether this analysis might have been premature. The Rams' offensive line is healthy and intact (at least right now), they're getting contributions from some of their youngsters on defense, and McVay has found new ways to scheme Goff into the sort of easy throws that keep the offense humming. The Rams entered the season with more than $36 million of this year's salary cap wasted on dead money, largely as a result of huge deals for Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks that had to be eaten. Only the Jaguars and Panthers had more dead money sitting on their books, and they're both in full-on rebuild mode this season.L.A. also has more than one-fourth of its cap accounting wrapped up in two players - Goff and defensive tackle Aaron Donald - and some serious decisions to make about getting compliant next year, when the cap could decrease by as much as 12% and they once again won't have a first-round draft pick. But all of that can wait. Harry How / Getty ImagesIn the here and now, the Rams are playing quality football. It all begins - as it so often does - with the quarterback. Goff leads the league in net yards per attempt (8.78), with PFF noting that he's one of just two quarterbacks (along with Aaron Rodgers) who hasn't thrown a turnover-worthy pass yet this year. QBs are in many ways products of their surroundings, and McVay has again placed Goff in situations in which he can thrive. As Rivers McCown pointed out over at Football Outsiders, the Rams have gone with a more horizontal attack that relies more heavily on motion, play-action, quick throws, and end-arounds than taking deep shots. Per Sports Info Solutions, Goff's average depth of target so far is just 5.8 yards, well below the marks of 8.0, 8.2, and 7.3 he established across the previous three seasonsESPN's Seth Walder noted that they've used motion at the snap 31.3% of the time - the second-most in the league. And on Sunday at the Eagles, they went heavy on pre-snap motion to keep the defense off-balance:
Report: Damon Harrison to visit Seahawks
Free-agent defensive tackle Damon Harrison is scheduled to visit with the Seattle Seahawks next week, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Harrison also received interest from the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Cincinnati Bengals, Schefter adds.Harrison would be a welcome addition to a Seahawks defense dealing with a rash of injuries. Defensive ends Benson Mayowa and Rasheem Green didn't practice Wednesday, while defensive tackle Jarran Reed also sat out.Seattle's defense ranks last in the NFL in yards allowed after surrendering over 450 yards in consecutive games. Harrison could help bolster the team's defensive line while also bringing a veteran presence. The Bears and Bengals could also use Harrison's services.Bears defensive tackle John Jenkins reportedly suffered a ligament tear in his thumb, and he could be placed on the injured reserve, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Geno Atkins, meanwhile, has yet to make his 2020 debut for the Bengals due to a shoulder issue. He didn't practice Wednesday, and his status for Week 3 isn't clear.Harrison has recorded 485 career tackles and 11 sacks. Report: Vikings signing Todd Davis to 1-year deal amid defensive struggles
The Minnesota Vikings are signing linebacker Todd Davis to a one-year contract as they look to restore a defense that has struggled to begin the season, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Davis, 28, started 63 games for the Denver Broncos from 2014-19. He's coming off back-to-back seasons in which he recorded 100-plus tackles and was a surprise cut ahead of the 2020 campaign.Typically a strong defensive team under head coach Mike Zimmer, the Vikings rank 29th in yards allowed and 31st in points surrendered through two weeks this year.Minnesota lost linebacker Anthony Barr to a season-ending pectoral injury in Week 2, creating an opening in the starting lineup that Davis could conceivably fill. The winless Vikings face the unbeaten Tennessee Titans in Week 3.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Gruden praises Newton: He's a 'power forward playing quarterback'
NFL coaches have tried for years to accurately describe the dual-threat ability that quarterbacks like Cam Newton possess, and the Las Vegas Raiders' Jon Gruden may have just finally delivered. He explained the difficulty in stopping a player built like Newton, while also sharing a nickname he's given the signal-caller."I haven't seen many guys walk through my doors that look like Cam. I call him 'Slam.' Slam Newton. That was the nickname I gave him. He is a power forward playing quarterback," Gruden said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.Gruden's Raiders will be up against the New England Patriots this Sunday, and his team will be tasked with stopping an offense that Newton has rejuvenated. That hasn't been easy for the Patriots' previous two opponents."It's a tough operation. It always is when you play against Cam Newton and the New England Patriots, and now that they've joined forces, it's double trouble for every defensive staff, every coach, and every team that comes in there," Gruden told the media.Newton has completed 71.4% of his pass attempts this season while scoring five total touchdowns. He also threw for nearly 400 yards in last Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots passer missed the majority of last season with an injury, creating some offseason doubt about whether he could still play at a high level. Gruden believes Newton is still the dangerous dual-threat quarterback the league has feared for much of the last decade."Cam looks like he's the usual Cam. He's a threat to do a lot of different things," Gruden said. The Raiders are 2-0, but they've allowed over 100 rushing yards in consecutive weeks.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Ravens' Harbaugh calls stopping Mahomes 'a big challenge'
The reigning NFL MVP will take on the reigning Super Bowl MVP when the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs clash Monday night in arguably the marquee matchup of the season so far.Patrick Mahomes already possesses two regular-season wins over Lamar Jackson, and Ravens head coach John Harbaugh knows it will be three unless his team can limit the star quarterback and the Chiefs' electric offense."He's just been phenomenal in his first three years in the National Football League," Harbaugh said Wednesday, per Clifton Brown of the Ravens' official site. "We've seen it up-close and personal on two different occasions - at their place the last two years - where he's made some just tremendous plays that have really, in the end, beaten us. So, we have to find a way to stop him and all those weapons they've got. It's going to be a big challenge."The Mahomes-led Chiefs took down the Ravens 27-24 in Week 14 of the 2018 season before earning a 33-28 victory in Week 3 last season. Mahomes outplayed Jackson in both matchups, throwing a combined 751 yards and five touchdowns with just one interception. The previous games were in Kansas City, but Baltimore will have the home-field advantage for Week 3.The Chiefs and Ravens are both undefeated through two weeks and look primed to again challenge for AFC dominance. Although the season is still young, the outcome of this game could be crucial in determining the conference's playoff seedings.Harbaugh is embracing the hype rather than try and minimize the matchup's importance."I don't think you can ignore it. You can't sit there and pretend. Every game is important, they all count for wins, and you don't want to mess up one that the fans or somebody else might not think is important," said Harbaugh."But who wouldn't get excited for a game like this? When you're playing a team that is the defending champs, the favorites to win the whole thing again - going forward - the type of players they have, the coaches they have? You're going to get excited about it. It's not something that we downplay. We don't ignore it. We try to embrace it and make the most of it."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Brees dismisses concerns about arm, says he feels 'borderline great'
Drew Brees hasn't played up to his Hall of Fame standards through two weeks, but the New Orleans Saints quarterback insisted Wednesday that he isn't worried about his lackluster play."I feel good, I feel good. Borderline great," Brees said, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.Brees, 41, averaged just 5.3 yards per attempt and completed only 60% of his passes in the Saints' season-opening win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading to concerns that his arm strength has waned significantly. His numbers improved in Monday night's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, as he recorded a 68% completion percentage and 8.2 yards per attempt. However, Brees' average of 4.82 air yards is the lowest mark of any quarterback through two games since Brett Favre in 2009, according to ESPN Stats & Information. But the NFL's all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns said he doesn't care how his offense puts points on the board as long as New Orleans comes out on top."You know, one of the statistics that was thrown out after the game was the yards per attempt, or something like that. There are many statistics I do not pay one bit of attention to, and that would be one of them," Brees said. "At the end of the day, I am focused on putting us in (a) position to succeed, making great decisions, both in the run game or pass game, whatever is predicated on my ability to get us in the best play."Brees added: "Those are the things I'm focused on, and I don't care how we do it. I honestly don't. I just want to win football games."The Saints made it a priority to get insurance for Brees this offseason, retaining do-it-all weapon Taysom Hill and bringing in former Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston.Brees will get his chance to prove his doubters wrong Sunday in a showdown with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. McDougald, Williamson call out Jets for 'slow' practices after 0-2 start
The pace of New York Jets practices apparently doesn't reflect a team that's arguably the league's worst after two weeks. The Jets have lost two straight and are underachieving on both sides of the ball, and according to multiple defenders, the club hasn't prepared well enough to overcome those early struggles."It all goes back to practice. We've had some slow practices, and it correlates to the game," safety Bradley McDougald said, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. "We need to have a complete, full week of just great practices, and I don't think we've had that yet."The sooner we realize that and hone in on how important practice is and coming out and winning at practice, then it will translate to the games on Sunday."McDougald, who joined the Jets in July as part of the Jamal Adams trade with the Seattle Seahawks, added that until New York consistently practices well, its games will "be a toss-up."The defensive back wasn't the only one questioning the Jets' recent practice habits, as veteran linebacker Avery Williamson also spoke out."Sometimes, in practice, guys are missing tackles or we're not doing things right," Williamson said. "We haven't been as crisp as we should be at times. ... We don't start fast at practice."Head coach Adam Gase said he wasn't aware of the comments, adding that he feels "like we had really good tempo to practice."The Jets currently rank 31st in scoring offense and 24th defensively.New York will try for its first win this season against the Indianapolis Colts on the road Sunday.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Eagles' Reagor likely headed to IR with thumb injury
The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to place wide receiver Jalen Reagor on injured reserve due to a UCL tear in his thumb, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Reagor could return for the second half of the season or earlier, Rapoport adds. The receiver suffered the injury during his team's Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams and attempted to play through it. The ailment is similar in nature to the one that kept New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees out of action for five games last season.Philadelphia drafted Reagor in the first round of this year's draft, and he was thrown right into the mix to start the season. The rookie receiver caught a 55-yard pass in his Week 1 debut and followed that up with 41 receiving yards in Week 2.Reagor was expected to be a credible receiving option for Carson Wentz and the Eagles' offense. His injury is another blow to a team already missing receiver Alshon Jeffery and others due to injury.Wentz will now have to count on a receiving group that still features the likes of DeSean Jackson, Greg Ward, and John Hightower. The Eagles could also continue to use a dual tight end formation with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Chargers doctor punctured Taylor's lung; Herbert will start Week 3
Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn announced Wednesday that a team doctor accidentally punctured Tyrod Taylor's lung before kickoff Sunday while trying to administer a pain-killing injection to the quarterback's cracked ribs, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.Doctors have advised Taylor to remain off the field "indefinitely," Schefter adds."Tyrod's not angry, not upset," said Lynn, who added that the doctor "just made a mistake."First-round rookie Justin Herbert will start for a second straight game against the Carolina Panthers, Lynn confirmed.Taylor was set to start the Chargers' Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs but was surprisingly sidelined after pregame warmup due to a chest injury, forcing Herbert to make his NFL debut. The NFL Players Association has initiated an investigation into the incident involving Taylor, NFLPA assistant executive director of external affairs George Atallah said Wednesday. The union has been in touch with Taylor and his agent since Sunday. It was initially reported that Taylor had experienced difficulties breathing prior to kickoff and was taken to the hospital Sunday for further evaluation.Despite Herbert's strong performance, Lynn said Sunday that Taylor will remain the club's starting quarterback when healthy. The veteran signal-caller led the Chargers to an unimpressive 16-13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in their season opener, completing 16 passes for 208 yards.Meanwhile, Herbert lost in overtime to the Chiefs in Week 2, tossing for 311 yards and one touchdown against one interception. He also scored a rushing touchdown.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Dolphins-Jaguars betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. After two surprising performances to start the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars (-3, 48) are in a rare spot as home favorites against the Miami Dolphins in an intrastate showdown between frisky rebuilding squads. Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Thursday night's contest.Betting trendsIt's been a while since Jacksonville was favored in any game, but it's not a great sign for bettors. The Jaguars are 14-23-1 against the spread as home chalk since 2008 and own a 2-5 ATS mark in their last seven. This is also a unique spot for the Dolphins, who've gotten three points or fewer as road underdogs just once since the 2015 season. They won that game outright and have gone 13-4 ATS in this spot since 2008, though they're just 7-15 ATS overall in their last 22 games as road underdogs. The night slot is troublesome for both squads. The Jaguars are 4-10 ATS in prime time since 2008, while the Dolphins are 4-13-1 ATS under the lights since 2010. It's been a rough spot for Miami quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, too: He's 4-9-1 ATS in prime time with an average scoring margin of -7.57 points for his side.Player propsGardner Minshew over 262.5 passing yards (-112)A year after boasting the worst pass defense in the league, the Dolphins have invested as much in their secondary as any team. It hasn't worked. Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw for a career-high 417 yards last week against Miami, which once again ranks dead last in PFF's coverage grade through two games.Minshew has looked sharp this year, going 19-for-20 for 173 yards in Week 1 before throwing for 339 yards last week on the road against the Titans. If Jaguars offensive coordinator Jay Gruden lets his QB loose again this week - a smart move against Miami's reeling defensive backs - Minshew won't have any issue topping this total.Myles Gaskin under 39.5 rushing yards (-112)It's easy to get excited about Gaskin, who's turned 16 carries into 86 yards through two weeks. Don't get carried away, though. The Dolphins back has earned most of his yardage between the tackles, and he's not likely to find those same holes against the Jaguars' front.Jacksonville boasts a top-10 run defense per DVOA and has kept downhill runners in check through two games. The Jaguars held Derrick Henry to 3.4 yards per rush in Week 2 and limited Colts back Jonathan Taylor to nine carries for 22 yards in Week 1. Gaskin is worse than both of those backs and shouldn't get enough opportunities Thursday to reach 40 yards.Best betJaguars -3Anyone who's watched Jacksonville this year can tell there's something there worth betting. Sharps devoured this team last week and were rewarded, yet oddsmakers are still rating the Jaguars on par with a substandard Dolphins squad that struggles on the road and hasn't shown much upside.Jacksonville went toe to toe with the Colts and Titans in consecutive weeks and now faces a favorable matchup against Miami's struggling secondary. Arians won't let Bucs overlook reeling Broncos: 'We haven't done shit'
Bruce Arians won't allow the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to look past the Denver Broncos, who are 0-2 and depleted from injuries entering Week 3."I don't think we can let our guard down. We haven't done shit," the head coach said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. "We're nobody to look past anybody."The Buccaneers are coming off their first victory of the season in Week 2, though the team's offense was again an issue at times versus the Carolina Panthers.Despite an eventful offseason that saw the Buccaneers acquire future Hall of Famers in quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski, the club ranks 25th in total offense through two weeks.Gronkowski, in particular, has struggled after ending his retirement. The 31-year-old has logged just two receptions for 11 yards, and he's been a red-zone nonfactor after being a force there prior to this campaign."We brought him in to just play tight end," Arians said, according to The Athletic's Greg Auman. "If that means no catches, that means no catches. If it means 10 catches, it means 10 catches because he's open and that's where the ball goes."The Broncos are teetering after dropping their first two contests and losing stars Von Miller and Courtland Sutton to season-ending injuries. Denver will also be facing the Buccaneers without quarterback Drew Lock, who's expected to miss three-to-five weeks with a shoulder injury.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. From Week 7 on, the former first-round pick averaged the fourth most fantasy points at the position and helped lead Tennessee to the playoffs. He's picked up right where he left off with incredible efficiency through two outings (six touchdowns, no interceptions) and is once again a QB1 in the fantasy world. With defenses focused on stopping Derrick Henry and the rushing attack, Tannehill should continue to have success, including against a subpar Vikings pass defense next Sunday. He's a great streamer and might end up being your starter the rest of the way.Gardner Minshew, JaguarsNext UpRosteredFABvs. MIA32%$1Speaking of six touchdown passes through two games ... how about Minshew's performance in Jay Gruden's system so far? Yes, the sophomore QB turned the ball over a few times this week, but he's emerging as a legit franchise quarterback and nearly helped his team earn a second straight upset victory. Minshew ranks 10th in fantasy points per game among quarterbacks through two contests and should keep that up at home on Thursday night against a Dolphins defense that just allowed over 400 passing yards and four touchdowns to Josh Allen.Streamer options: Baker Mayfield vs. WAS (47% rostered), Philip Rivers vs. NYJ (27% rostered), Justin Herbert vs. CAR (3% rostered), Mitch Trubisky at ATL (7% rostered)Running backs Michael Zagaris / Getty Images Sport / GettyJerick McKinnon, 49ersNext UpRosteredFABat NYG23%$29With Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman both dealing with knee injuries, McKinnon vaults to the top of the 49ers' running back depth chart. As we know from nearly every NFL season that involved a Shanahan-coached offense, this scheme generates rushing production regardless of who's in the backfield. McKinnon, who was once handpicked to be Kyle Shanahan's lead ball carrier two years ago, is finally healthy and poised to capitalize on his opportunity. The 28-year-old posted 44 yards and a receiving score on just eight touches in the opener before making his mark with 77 yards on three carries in Week 2 - capped off by a 55-yard run to improbably convert a third-and-31. With Mostert and Coleman at risk of missing multiple weeks, McKinnon is about to remind you he can be an RB2 with RB1 upside in fantasy.Mike Davis, PanthersNext UpRosteredFABat LAC2%$29Fantasy first overall pick Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a high ankle sprain, leaving a void in the Panthers' backfield that no one running back can fill. Davis gave his best effort in relief duties on Sunday, catching eight passes for 74 yards with the team in comeback mode late in the game. While he wasn't given many touches last year, Davis has popped more than a few times for fantasy managers in the past. As a member of the Seahawks in 2018, Davis was given at least 15 touches in three games and posted yards from scrimmage totals of 124, 107, and 80 with three touchdowns combined in those appearances. None of the veteran free agents on the market offer an upgrade to Davis who already knows the system. He'll be an intriguing RB3/flex option who could produce RB2 fantasy value over the next month.Darrell Henderson, RamsNext UpRosteredFABat BUF31%$24As NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported prior to kickoff Sunday, the Rams had planned to get Henderson more involved this week. The goal was a three-way timeshare between Henderson, Cam Akers, and Malcolm Brown. However, when Akers left the game early due to a rib injury, the hot-hand competition was down to just two backs. Henderson was far more effective with his touches, amassing 81 rushing yards, 40 receiving yards, and a touchdown to Brown's 47 total yards. So for the second straight week we'll take a shot on this productive backfield. You should be trying to roster any of the Rams' runners in hopes that one of them rises to the top of the depth chart and stays there at some point this season.Joshua Kelley, ChargersNext UpRosteredFABvs. CAR39%$24We're getting there. Kelley's almost being rostered in half of fantasy leagues, so hopefully his third straight appearance in this article will put him over the top. Kelley followed up the 60 yards and a score in his debut with 64 rushing yards and two receptions for another 49 yards. He's settled into the Melvin Gordon role quite nicely and is the perfect complement to starter Austin Ekeler. Expect the Chargers to continue to call his number, making him a weekly flex option with the potential to go nuclear if Ekeler gets hurt.High-upside backups like Alexander Mattison (45% rostered), Tony Pollard (31% rostered), Chase Edmonds (45% rostered), and Darrel Williams (18% rostered) should be rostered in almost all leagues.Flex options: Myles Gaskin at JAX (15% rostered), Jeff Wilson Jr. at NYG (3% rostered)Risky flex options: Dion Lewis vs. SF (5% rostered), Wayne Gallman vs. SF (1% rostered), Frank Gore at IND (14% rostered)Sneaky stash: Devonta Freeman - Free agent working out for the Giants this week (13% rostered)Deeper upside backups: Brian Hill vs. CHI (3% rostered), Carlos Hyde vs. DAL (18% rostered), Boston Scott vs. CIN (35% rostered), Giovani Bernard at PHI (4% rostered), Darrynton Evans at MIN (3% rostered), Jordan Wilkins vs. NYJ (0% rostered)PPR possibilites: Chris Thompson vs. MIA (22% rostered), J.D. Brown out of the lineup, Davis wasn't able to replicate his 101-yard performance in the opener. That's alright, they aren't all going to be gems. The fact Davis still had a solid fantasy day with 36 yards and a touchdown is a positive sign for his value moving forward. He's set up for another big outing against the Vikings' work-in-progress cornerbacks in Week 3. Continue to consider Davis a WR3 for as long as Brown remains sidelined and potentially beyond that.Marquez Valdes-Scantling/Allen Lazard, PackersNext UpRosteredFABat NO36%/47%$19/$14It turns out Davante Adams' hamstring injury isn't serious, so we're likely to see the Packers' No. 1 receiver back on the field this week. That might be good news for Valdes-Scantling and Lazard, who struggled when asked to be the top targets when Adams missed time last year. Instead, the young duo can continue to operate as secondary pieces - something they've done very well in 2020. MVS has 160 yards and a touchdown through two games, while Lazard isn't far behind with 108 and a score. With Aaron Rodgers looking sharp early in the season, both wideouts are upside flex options. If forced to pick between them, I'd take Valdes-Scantling for his big-play upside.N'Keal Harry, PatriotsNext UpRosteredFABvs. LV27%$19Harry's path to fantasy relevance has been a long, winding road with several speed bumps and not the clear highway many first-rounders seem to be on. Even so, we're finally starting to see signs of life from the 6-foot-4, 225-pound wideout, who's coming off his best game as a pro with eight receptions and 72 yards against the Seahawks. It's nice to see the 22-year-old's confidence growing as Cam Newton takes him under his wing. If we continue on this road, Harry will be a regular in fantasy lineups as a flex play and maybe more later in the year.Preston Williams, DolphinsNext UpRosteredFABvs. BUF38%$19How can we be recommending a receiver who caught one pass in Week 2 and has just three grabs on the year? Well, if you read this column last Monday, you'd understand Williams was never intended to be a fantasy option in the first two games after coming off a torn ACL and facing the Patriots and Bills - two tough matchups. Don't let those performances sway your outlook on him. The wideout's best outings are yet to come in 2020 as he gets his legs under him and the schedule eases up.Jerry Jeudy, Robby Anderson, Mike Williams, and Brandin Cooks are around the 60% rostered mark and should be rostered in almost all leagues.Upside flex options: Russell Gage vs. CHI (22% rostered), Golden Tate vs. SF (36% rostered), Laviska Shenault Jr. vs. MIA (17% rostered), DeSean Jackson vs. CIN (48% rostered), Jalen Reagor vs. CIN (35% rostered), Tre'Quan Smith vs. GB (13% rostered), MeCole Hardman at BAL (36% rostered), Demarcus Robinson at BAL (1% rostered)Risky flex options: Christian Kirk vs DET (53% rostered), Keelan Cole vs. MIA (3% rostered), Randall Cobb at PIT (6% rostered)Promising rookies: Brandon Aiyuk at NYG (36% rostered), Michael Pittman Jr. vs. NYJ (15% rostered), Van Jefferson Jr. at BUF (4% rostered), Chase Claypool vs. HOU (5% rostered), Darnell Mooney at ATL (0% rostered), Tee Higgins at PHI (3% rostered), Bryan Edwards at NE (13% rostered)Deep bench stashes: Curtis Samuel at LAC (27% rostered), Miles Boykin vs. KC (4% rostered), Mohamed Sanu at NYG (4% rostered), Kendrick Bourne at NYG (7% rostered), David Moore vs. DAL (0% rostered), Deonte Harris vs GB (3% rostered), Isaiah Ford at JAX (0% rostered), Tim Patrick vs. TB (0% rostered), Hunter Renfrow at NE (12% rostered), Damiere Byrd vs. LV (0% rostered)Tight ends Greg Fiume / Getty Images Sport / GettyLogan Thomas, WashingtonNext UpRosteredFABat CLE32%$5Thomas returns this section, not due to his stat line (4-26-0) which was a bit of a letdown in Week 2, but rather for his nine targets. That pushes him to 17 targets on the year and into a tie for second in the league in that category among tight ends - only Travis Kelce has seen more passes thrown his way. Opportunity like that is rare at his position, so don't let yourself be dissuaded. Thomas remains an intriguing TE2 with a chance to still finish as a low-end TE1 on the season.Mo Alie-Cox, ColtsNext UpRosteredFABvs. NYJ1%$3With Jack Doyle on the shelf, Alie-Cox broke out with five catches and 111 yards versus the Vikings. His run-after-catch ability is fear-inducing and you can't put that kind of weapon back in the box. We don't know whether Doyle will be able to return in Week 3, but even when he does suit up, the Colts would be foolish not to find ways to get the ball in Alie-Cox's hands. There aren't that many tight ends with 100-yard upside. He'll be a streaming option against the Jets and then we'll reassess his value.Jonnu Smith and Mike Gesicki are around the 60% rostered mark and should be rostered in almost all leagues.
Report: NFL, union examining MetLife turf after rash of injuries
NFL and NFLPA officials are looking at MetLife Stadium turf Wednesday, a source told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. The league and players' association's decision to examine the field follows a spate of injuries in the Week 2 game between the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers.San Francisco plays the New York Giants on the same field in Week 3.The 49ers finished the game without multiple starters, including defensive ends Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas, running back Raheem Mostert, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.Bosa and Thomas suffered ACL tears and won't return this season, while Garoppolo is considered day-to-day with an ankle injury. Mostert, who's battling a knee ailment, reportedly isn't expected to play against the Giants.Defensive lineman Arik Armstead said his team is worried about playing on the surface again. Head coach Kyle Shanahan added that the turf was "sticky" Sunday. The NFL addressed the issue Monday."The independent field inspector determined on Sept. 12 that the field was in compliance with all applicable NFL policies, including the Mandatory Practices for Artificial Surfaces," the league said, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "In addition, within 72 hours of each home game, clubs must certify that their fields are in compliance with applicable NFL policy, and that occurred in this instance."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Giants place Shepard on IR
The New York Giants placed wide receiver Sterling Shepard on the injured reserve Wednesday due to a turf toe injury, the team announced.Shepard suffered the injury this past Sunday against the Chicago Bears. The wideout will now miss at least the next three weeks.Shepard's issue is the latest blow to the Giants' offense after running back Saquon Barkley was lost for the year due to an ACL tear. The Giants recently signed Devonta Freeman to help shore up their running game.New York's Week 2 contest was the first time a full arsenal of skill players was healthy to support Daniel Jones. That was short-lived, as the quarterback will be without Shepard and Barkley this Sunday.
Hall of Famer, Bears legend Gale Sayers dies at 77
Legendary Chicago Bears running back Gale Sayers died early Wednesday morning at the age of 77, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced.Enshrined in 1977 when he was 34 years old, Sayers went in as the youngest Hall of Famer in history. He retired from the NFL after seven seasons because of knee injuries, but Sayers was revered for his speed and elusiveness throughout his career."All those who love the game of football mourn the loss of one of the greatest to ever play this game with the passing of Chicago Bears legend Gale Sayers," said Hall of Fame president and CEO David Baker. "He was the very essence of a team player - quiet, unassuming, and always ready to compliment a teammate for a key block. Gale was an extraordinary man who overcame a great deal of adversity during his NFL career and life."Sayers was a top-five pick in both the AFL and NFL drafts in 1965, but he chose to sign with the Bears over the Kansas City Chiefs. He rushed for a single-season franchise record 14 touchdowns as a rookie, while his 22 total touchdowns that year set a new record - one that O.J. Simpson would eventually break. He was named NFL Rookie of the Year at the end of the campaign.Nicknamed the "Kansas Comet" during a decorated college career with the Jayhawks, Sayers went on to make five Pro Bowls and earn four first-team All-Pro selections with the Bears. He finished his career with 4,956 yards and 39 touchdowns on the ground, though Sayers was limited to four games over his final two seasons. He also won two rushing titles (1966 and 1969), the Comeback Player of the Year award (1969), and was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team."The NFL family lost a true friend today with the passing of Gale Sayers. Gale was one of the finest men in NFL history and one of the game's most exciting players," commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "Gale was an electrifying and elusive runner who thrilled fans every time he touched the ball. He earned his place as a first-ballot Hall of Famer."We will also forever remember Gale for his inspiration and kindness. Gale's quiet unassuming demeanor belied his determination, competitiveness, and compassion. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife Ardie, and their family. Our thoughts are with his teammates, the Bears organization, the many fans who remember him as a football player, and the many more people who were touched by Gale's spirit and generosity."Sayers suffered from dementia in the later stages of his life. He sued the NFL in 2014 alongside six other former players, claiming the league mishandled head injuries.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Bears' Cohen: 'I even left some money on the plate' for Robinson extension
Negotiations can sometimes be viewed as a coldhearted affair as teams and players try to squeeze every dollar out of one another. That may not apply to Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen, who claims he made a financial sacrifice for a teammate's benefit.Cohen and the Bears recently agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $18.25 million. With the team also dealing with Allen Robinson's contract status, Cohen says he chose to leave money aside in hopes his receiver gets paid his worth."Regardless of whether I got mine or not, it’s definitely time for him to get his. I even left some money on the plate. I took less so he could get more, so to say. I would definitely love to see my boy get extended. It means a lot to the team," Cohen said, according to Chicago Sun Times' Jason Lieser.Robinson - who is in the final season of a three-year, $42-million deal - was reportedly frustrated over his contract but squashed all rumors of a possible trade."My heart and spirit has never wavered as far as the city of Chicago and playing for this organization," Robinson said last Wednesday, according to ESPN's Field Yates.Bears head coach Matt Nagy also expressed belief that his team would eventually find common ground with Robinson."Our players all realize the history we have here in regards to taking care of guys. He's confident that we want him to be here," Nagy told reporters last Wednesday, per team reporter Larry Mayer.Robinson is in the midst of his third year with the Bears and has recorded over 2,000 receiving yards during his tenure with the club. The 27-year-old has been Mitch Trubisky's go-to receiver so far this season, registering eight receptions for 107 yards.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved.
