Help is on the way for Freddie Kitchens' offense, as the Cleveland Browns activated tight end David Njoku from injured reserve Saturday.Njoku broke his wrist in the Browns' Week 2 win over the New York Jets and hasn't played since. The 23-year-old was designated as Cleveland's return player in November despite his recovery taking longer than expected.Njoku - one of the Browns' three first-round picks in 2017 - will return to a scoring attack already featuring Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Eli Manning was officially named the New York Giants' starting quarterback Saturday for the first time since Week 2, but offensive coordinator Mike Shula doesn't envision the veteran showing signs of rust against the Philadelphia Eagles."He looks good," Shula told reporters, according to NFL.com's Grant Gordon. "He's had a good week. He always has a good look in his eye. He's been great for me, as a coach, to be around. I've learned a lot from him. I look forward to watching him on Monday night.""Obviously, he's practiced every day," he continued. "He's gotten himself ready mentally and physically. It's just a matter of getting back out there."Rookie Daniel Jones - who took over for Manning in Week 3 - is currently battling a high ankle sprain and will miss Monday night's tilt.Shula expressed confidence in Manning and said he won't be tinkering much with his offensive scheme for the 38-year-old passer."We might not have him running the ball like we did with Daniel," Shula said. "But other than that, really nothing."Manning owns a 10-22 record versus Philadelphia and hasn't beaten his NFC East rival since 2016.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Watching Lamar Jackson's MVP-caliber season has former NFL and CFL quarterback Doug Flutie wishing he could play again.Flutie, who retired in 2006 at the age of 43, likened himself to the Baltimore Ravens quarterback interview with TMZ Sports while explaining why he'd thrive in today's NFL."I just wish I could play in the NFL today with these spread offenses, quarterback runs, and all that," the former Heisman Trophy winner said. "It'd be a blast. It'd be a little more suited to me, put it that way."Lamar Jackson is unbelievable. I was a running quarterback. He's an elite tailback if he wants to. He's amazing. His shiftiness, his pure speed, and then he has the ability to really throw the football too."In his 12-year NFL career, Flutie threw for 14,715 yards and 86 touchdowns while rushing for 1,634 yards and 10 scores for the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and San Diego Chargers. He'll be returning to Buffalo on Sunday to celebrate the 20th-anniversary return of his Flutie Flakes cereal.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett announced quarterback Dak Prescott injured his right index finger and sprained his left hand against the Chicago Bears but isn't expected to miss any games, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Prescott was spotted shaking his right hand after hitting it on a helmet after a pass attempt Thursday. He remained in the game, however, and played in every offensive snap during his team's 31-24 defeat. The 26-year-old has yet to miss a game in his career, amassing 61 consecutive starts since being given the reins as a rookie in 2016.Prescott has set career highs in both passing yards (4,122) and touchdowns (24) this season. The 6-7 Cowboys will try to snap their three-game losing streak on Dec. 15 at home against the Los Angeles Rams.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Indianapolis Colts signed tight end Jack Doyle to a three-year extension, his agent announced Friday. The new deal is worth more than $21 million, and it can be worth up to $24 million with incentives, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Doyle was set to become a free agent after the 2019 season. He started 12 games this season, amassing a team-leading 36 catches for 377 yards and four touchdowns. The 29-year-old went undrafted in 2013 and was claimed off waivers by the Colts after being cut by the Tennessee Titans. In seven seasons in Indianapolis, Doyle's posted 2,105 yards and 18 touchdowns on 236 receptions, including an 80-catch, Pro Bowl-level campaign in 2017.The Colts placed tight end Eric Ebron on injured reserve with an ankle injury after Week 12. In their first game without Ebron, Doyle hauled in 6 of 11 targets for 73 yards and a score in Week 13.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will return Sunday against the Carolina Panthers after missing one game with a shoulder injury, head coach Dan Quinn said, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.Tight end Austin Hooper will also return Sunday after dealing with a knee injury. Rookie offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom will be activated from injured reserve and start at right guard versus the Panthers, although he won't play on every snap, Quinn said.Jones, who's tied for sixth in receiving across the NFL with 950 yards, was inactive Thanksgiving Day because of his shoulder. He worked out on the field pregame but was determined unfit to play.Hooper missed three games with a sprained MCL. The 25-year-old was enjoying a breakout season prior to his injury, racking up 56 receptions for 608 yards and six touchdowns.Lindstrom has been sidelined since breaking his foot in Week 1. The Falcons drafted him and Kaleb McGary in the first round of the 2019 draft, hoping the infusion of fresh blood would vastly improve an inconsistent offensive line.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. L.A. is coming off another gut-wrenching loss last week to the Drew Lock-led Broncos. I like to fade teams late in the year that were projected to be Super Bowl contenders and coming off a tough loss. At some point, the players on those disappointing clubs start making tee times and looking forward to the offseason. The Chargers are 4-8 and officially out of the playoff picture. They must be pumped to travel across the country and play a meaningless game in Jacksonville. The Jaguars should get a boost after reinstating Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback. Minshew is 4-1 straight up (SU) and 5-0 against the spread (ATS) this season versus teams coming off a loss. Lynn is on his way out the door and the Chargers have no business being a road favorite here.Jacksonville has lost seven straight in this series. The streak ends Sunday.Pick: Jaguars +3 ($50)Alex Kolodziej ($1,040)Season record: 11-8, +$40Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo BillsTotal: 43.5I've been waiting to hammer a Bills over, and I breathed a sigh of relief that last week's total against the Cowboys got jacked up out of range and ultimately ended in a pass. Buffalo's defense hasn't played anybody and last week's box score helps me here. Despite allowing 15 points to Dallas, the Bills gave up 5.9 yards per play and benefited from two missed field goals and two turnovers on downs. I think some still view this Bills defense as above average when it's clearly not.You can only luck out so much, and I don't think it happens twice in two weeks. Baltimore's the No. 1 DVOA offense, and deservedly so: The Ravens have played three defenses over the past five weeks that rank in the top five of DVOA defense and have averaged 34 points per game against those opponents. They're probably going to have their way against a Bills run defense that's still just No. 22 in the league.Oh, and give me Josh Allen against a defense that's in the bottom third in the NFL in adjusted sack rate this season. Over, over, over.Pick: Over 43.5 ($100)C Jackson Cowart ($986)Season record: 15-13-2, -$14Tennessee Titans at Oakland RaidersTotal: 47The Titans own the NFL's longest over streak (six) and have scored at least 20 points in all six overs thanks to Ryan Tannehill reigniting this talent-rich offense.Oakland's defense, which ranks second-worst in DVOA, is a poor fit to slow Tennessee's balanced attack, while the Titans' defense has been slipping during the team's stellar over run. Expect another over in a game Tennessee needs to win.Pick: Over 47 ($50)Indianapolis Colts at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3)When bad teams play with a small spread, check the coach and quarterback. Colts coach Frank Reich is 7-3-1 ATS as a road 'dog in his career, while Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston is 5-10 ATS as a home favorite. Take the points with Indy, which is hampered by injuries, but undervalued against an unreliable Tampa Bay squad.Pick: Colts +3 ($25)Alex Moretto ($946)Season record: 14-14-1, -$54Denver Broncos at Houston Texans (-9)I was big on the Broncos last week and couldn't be more confident fading them in Drew Lock's first road start. It took the Chargers until the second half to start blitzing, but once they did, Lock was a mess under center. He managed only 11 passing yards after halftime and completed just six passes - five of them to his running backs. The Chargers have the lowest blitz percentage in the NFL and even that was too much for Lock, who'll be living a nightmare against a Texans defense that isn't shy about rushing the quarterback under coordinator Romeo Crennel. I genuinely fear how ugly this could get for the Broncos' offense, while Denver's defense has posted significantly worse numbers on the road this season.Pick: Texans -9 ($60)Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (-13)Is there a better opponent in the NFL right now for a frustrated team to let go of some anger against than the Lions? Mike Zimmer's defense was bullied Monday night in Seattle and you can bet he's been all over his defenders in practice this week. I can only imagine the sort of hell they're going to unleash on Detroit quarterback David Blough, who's making the first road start of his career. As for Minnesota's offense, with or without Dalvin Cook (who's expected to play), the Vikings will have no issue putting up points in a stats-padding game against a Lions defense giving up the fourth-most yards per game and fifth-most yards per play. Minnesota won 42-30 earlier this season in Detroit and you can expect another offensive outburst in this one, only without Matthew Stafford keeping pace on the other side.Pick: Vikings -13 ($60)Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Chicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith's pectoral injury suffered in Thursday's win over the Dallas Cowboys "does not look good for him," head coach Matt Nagy said postgame. The Bears fear Smith suffered a torn pec and he is scheduled to undergo an MRI, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Smith, the eighth overall pick in the 2018 draft, left the prime-time matchup in the first quarter and didn't return. He entered the game with 98 tackles, two sacks, and an interception. If Smith misses significant time, it would be a major blow to the Bears who still have a slim chance of making the playoffs.Chicago's defense is already dealing with several injuries on defense.Linebacker Danny Trevathan (elbow) and cornerback Prince Amukamara (hamstring) missed Thursday's game. Jason Garrett remains the Dallas Cowboys' head coach, but the organization is already flirting with potential replacements. The Cowboys have a "very real interest" in Urban Meyer, and team executive vice president Stephen Jones recently spoke with the former Ohio State head coach, sources told Jane Slater of NFL Network.Slater added that Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley is still a strong candidate to take over for Garrett, who's in the final year of his contract. Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott is also a possibility.Dallas lost on Thursday night to the Chicago Bears, and the mounting pressure on Garrett is increasing after the team's third straight defeat. The 6-7 Cowboys are still on track to make the playoffs, though that's largely a result of being in the NFL's least competitive division.A three-time national champion, Meyer stepped down from the Buckeyes at the end of last season because of health reasons. The 54-year-old established himself as one of college football's greatest coaches over seven seasons at Ohio State, winning the 2014 College Football Playoff National Championship and posting a 77-9 overall record.Meanwhile, Riley has been recognized as one of college football's premier offensive minds in his three seasons with the Sooners. The 36-year-old produced back-to-back Heisman-winning quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, who were selected with the No. 1 overall picks in the last two drafts.Elliott, 40, has acted as Clemson's co-offensive coordinator (alongside Jeff Scott) since the final game of the 2014 season. His offense has been the driving force behind Clemson's two recent national title wins (2016 and 2018).Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones again expressed frustration over the state of his team following Thursday night's 31-24 loss to the Chicago Bears."That score didn't indicate how bad they beat us tonight," said Jones, according to NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano.Dallas fell to 6-7 after suffering its third straight loss but remains atop the weak NFC East. A touchdown pass from Dak Prescott with 4:29 left in the game and a last-minute field goal flattered the Cowboys, who didn't put up any points in either the second or third quarter. While the Cowboys are still firmly in the playoff hunt, Jones knows it won't matter unless his team can improve its play and start winning again."They took it to us. We just got to see if we can step in here and win a game," said Jones, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "I don't care if we stay in contention all the way down until they have the playoffs, we got to start showing our fans, more importantly, show ourselves we can do the things to win games."Garrett's job appears safe for at least another week, and the embattled head coach doesn't believe he's lost the locker room after this latest lackluster effort:

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman says suspended radio color analyst Tim Ryan has "never been anything but a great guy" after the former NFL defensive lineman apologized to the team Thursday for his comments about Lamar Jackson.Sherman understands why some took offense to Ryan suggesting the Baltimore Ravens quarterback's "dark skin" helps with faking handoffs. However, he insists that argument was legitimate, albeit poorly worded."I know Tim personally and I have listened to the dialogue and saw it written and, honestly, I wasn't as outraged as everybody else," Sherman said, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "I understand how it can be taken under a certain context and be offensive to some, but if you're saying, 'Hey, this is a brown ball, they're wearing dark colors and he has a brown arm,' honestly, sometimes we were having trouble seeing it on film."He's making a play fake and sometimes he's swinging his arm really fast and you're like, 'OK, does he have the ball on that play?' And then you look up and (Mark) Ingram is running it. So, it was technically a valid point, but you can always phrase things better. You can always phrase things and not say his black skin."Jackson ran for 101 yards and one touchdown in the Ravens' 20-17 win over the 49ers last week. It was the latest dominant performance on the ground for the MVP favorite.Sherman emphasized that trying to recognize who had the football when Baltimore was running the zone-read and read-option was "100 percent" an issue for San Francisco's defense."That's why it wasn't that offensive because what he was saying was a great point," said Sherman. "It's been that way in any zone-read scheme, the mesh point is always a tough point of contention so if you add a dark jersey to it, it's gonna make it even harder. ... I think it's one of those things where he could have used better words but it may have been made bigger than what it really was."The 49ers suspended Ryan one game for the remark, and the team reached out to the Ravens to apologize. In a statement Wednesday, the broadcaster also apologized to Jackson, saying he regretted his "choice of words in trying to describe the conditions of the game."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. On Sunday, Ryan Fitzpatrick won another game for a team that's designed to lose. Fitzpatrick is the Tank Commander of the Dolphins' front-office effort to not win, yet he's racked up three victories in Miami's last five games. In a way, it's the perfect encapsulation of Fitzpatrick's itinerant NFL career. He has a tendency to play just well enough to create the illusion of success. That he's now been doing it for 15 seasons is a kind of success in its own right. It's time to give FitzMagic its due, if only because it's such a fantastically high-risk, high-reward joyride. There's been a neat, circular pattern to Fitzpatrick's time in the NFL, which the Washington Post summed up rather succinctly last year: "Land a backup job, win the starting spot, play well enough to earn a contract, crash back to Earth, repeat." Journeyman quarterback is a well-worn NFL label, but Fitzpatrick may define the term better than anyone. He has now started games for eight teams, breaking the record of seven he had shared with Chris Chandler and Gus Frerotte. Chase Stuart of Football Perspective noted that Fitzpatrick has now been the Week 1 starter for five franchises, and he's begun the year as a Week 1 starter in seven of the last nine seasons. The Wall Street Journal once reported that he had 141 active NFL teammates. That was three years and two teams ago.––––––––––Sunday's win against the Eagles was the 152nd game of Fitzpatrick's career and his 135th start. Since 1950, just 54 other QBs have played in that many games and made that many starts. But the general weirdness of Fitzpatrick's tenure is largely without equal. Pro Football Reference lists Tommy Kramer, Bobby Hebert, Lynn Dickey, Jon Kitna, Steve Bartkowski, Archie Manning, Brad Johnson, Charley Johnson, Neil O'Donnell, and Richard Todd as similar players, statistically. Only Brad Johnson (177) and Charley Johnson (165) have played in more games, and only Manning (139) has made more starts - and Fitzpatrick will tie Manning in that category if he starts the remainder of the Dolphins' games this season. One final, edifying twist: Like Charley Johnson and Manning, Fitzpatrick has never made it to the playoffs. Wins and losses aren't the best way to measure a quarterback's ability, but there's something striking about Fitzpatrick's career record as a starter: 53-81-1."Yeah, Fitzpatrick has a nice long career of being mostly a little bit below average," Football Outsiders creator Aaron Schatz told me. "Which is respectable, given how hard it is to play in the NFL for so long."How does he do it? Chan Gailey, Fitzpatrick's head coach with the Bills from 2010-12 and his offensive coordinator during both his seasons with the Jets in 2015 and 2016, said Fitzpatrick is indeed intelligent and uber-competitive. But Gailey said Fitzpatrick's most notable quality is how relatable he can be. This again might sound like Football Man-speak - Fitzpatrick is absolutely capable of regaling reporters with pithy quotes and coming across as extremely likable - but Gailey said Fitzpatrick genuinely gets along with everyone. That whole Amish Rifle routine - the beard, the T-shirts around the facility, the wedding ring out there on the field - works to endear him to his coaches and teammates."He makes everyone feel special, feel good, feel unique, feel needed," Gailey told me. "He's got a unique sense of humor, and when you're as smart as he is, he knows a little bit about everything, so he can relate to this guy that might come from this background, or this guy that went to that school, or this guy that likes cars, this guy that likes horses - he can relate to everybody. He pays attention. He wants to be that guy."Gailey's words reminded me of that day last season when Fitzpatrick appeared at a postgame press conference decked out in then-teammate DeSean Jackson's jewelry and clothes:theScoreThe stunt was vintage Fitzpatrick - in more ways than one. Gailey said Fitzpatrick's ability to relate to his surroundings has helped him build loyalty and trust with his teammates even though he lacks elite-level skills on the field. Also, Gailey said, Fitzpatrick's intelligence is simultaneously his greatest strength and greatest weakness."We tried to get him more consistent and talked to him about it," Gailey said. "He knows what they should have done in that defense, and when they don't do it, then he gets messed up. We had a game in Buffalo - we were going to throw a little quick out. It's Cover 2, and they've been jumping the quick out, so he says, 'I'm going to lay it over the top into the hole,' and throws a pick, and we lose the game at the end. That's the way it is. He's smart enough to hit it sometimes, and sometimes it backfires."The advanced numbers back up Fitzpatrick's magnificent adequacy. Schatz said Football Outsiders has tracked Fitzpatrick as above replacement level based on FO's DYAR metric (defense-adjusted yards above replacement) pretty much every year since 2010. The only exception was 2016, though Schatz acknowledged that a dreadful, six-interception stinker against the Chiefs dragged Fitzpatrick down. At the same time, Fitzpatrick has never ranked in the top dozen in DYAR in a given season, and the only time he even cracked that tier was early last season with Tampa Bay. In 2019, he ranks eighth in Total QBR - ahead of Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, and Tom Brady. But he's also thrown 11 interceptions, sixth-most in the league. If there's one thing about Fitzpatrick that surprises Gailey, it's that he wants to continue playing. Fitzpatrick and his wife have seven children, and Fitzpatrick turned 37 in November. Per Over The Cap, he's earned $62.5 million over the course of his career. Why keep doing it?"He's got plenty of money, he's got a great family, all of those kids - I thought he would have gone to (his native) Arizona and just settle down," Gailey said. "But the thrill of victory is an amazing lure."––––––––––Fitzpatrick was a long shot to make the NFL back in 2005 out of - all together now - Harvard after he famously scored a 48 out of 50 on the Wonderlic at the combine, back when the Wonderlic was something the football press still took seriously. In a 2015 interview with "The Dan Patrick Show," Fitzpatrick acknowledged that questions about the test were his least favorite and also revealed that his Wonderlic legend was always something of a media creation."I come out of the test, and I think NFL Network or somebody - I don't even know if they were around back then, ESPN maybe - came up and said, 'It's been reported you got a 50,'" Fitzpatrick said. "And it's not like you take the test and they give you your score. I said, 'I left one blank, so I definitely didn't get a 50.' So then it was reported I got a 49. Again, everybody's trying to paint the picture. The myth was drawn of all the different test scores."ESPN's draft profile of Fitzpatrick reads like a bingo card of white QB scouting cliches:

It's been a disappointing season for the Cleveland Browns and Odell Beckham Jr., but the receiver believes it could still end positively for both. The 5-7 club holds an outside shot at making the postseason, and the wideout hopes Cleveland can capitalize."I just care about winning and hopefully getting a shot to go to the playoffs. The wildest wild card or whatever. If they just let us in there, that's the goal," he said on Thursday. As far as his own production is concerned, Beckham is in the midst of the worst statistical campaign of his six-year career. He topped 1,300 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons, and the veteran eclipsed 1,000 yards despite playing in just 12 games last year with the New York Giants. In 2019, he's been held to 57 catches for 805 yards and just two touchdowns."Imma get 1,000 yards," Beckham said. Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley's workload rose substantially in two of the last three weeks, and head coach Sean McVay has a simple explanation."Me not being an idiot," McVay said to reporters Wednesday, per ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.Through the Rams' first nine games of the season, Gurley averaged 11 carries per game. With the Rams 5-4 and fighting for their playoff lives, Gurley broke out for 25 carries in Week 11 and another 19 in Week 13. L.A. won both of those games."He's done a nice job handling a bigger workload," McVay said. The coach insisted he wasn't trying to manage Gurley's load earlier in the season."It has nothing to do with that," he said. Aaron Rodgers is relishing the opportunity to be in another playoff race, for multiple reasons. For one, the Green Bay Packers have missed the postseason the past two years."Yeah, that and seeing the 18th hole coming up, realizing I can't play forever and the opportunities don't come along all the time," Rodgers said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.Rodgers turned 36 on Monday and is four weeks away from completing his 15th NFL season. The two-time MVP recognizes he's - in golf parlance - "making the turn" to the last portion of his career. The star quarterback has led the Packers to a 9-3 record and a one-game lead over the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC North lead. They currently own a 63% chance of winning the division and at least hosting a playoff game."I can feel the energy of this team early in April and May," Rodgers said. "And it was a different feel, and that's what spurred me in the summertime to forgo some of the traveling I would usually do and make sure I was dialed in once training camp came around, because I felt like we could do something special this year."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The San Francisco 49ers suspended radio color analyst Tim Ryan after he said Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was successful at faking handoffs because of his "dark skin color with a dark football," per Matthias Gafni and Lauren Hernández of the San Francisco Chronicle."He's really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but when you consider his dark skin color with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing,†Ryan said Monday during his weekly appearance on KNBF radio."I mean you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point and if you're a half step slow on him in terms of your vision forget about it, he's out of the gate."

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford doesn't have any concerns about his long-term NFL future despite dealing with back injuries for the past two seasons."I want to play for a long time," Stafford said. "I felt like I was playing really good ball this year and something that was kind of a freak deal that happened, and obviously got to take it in stride and listen to doctors, my body, coaches and figure out what's best, but I was having a lot of fun playing when I was out there and wish I could be out there now trying to help us win games."Stafford - who has been sidelined since Nov. 3 - reiterated he plans to play again this season, adding his back is "continuing to heal as it should."Through eight games, the 31-year-old had the best passer rating of his career (106.0) and was on pace to throw 38 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.Though the Lions have been eliminated from playoff contention, head coach Matt Patricia said Monday the team hasn't yet shut down Stafford for the season out of respect for the QB's toughness.Jeff Driskel started three games in place of Stafford before going on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Undrafted rookie David Blough was under center for last Thursday's loss to the Chicago Bears.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston's rookie deal expires at the end of the season, and it still isn't clear if he'll remain the team's starter beyond 2019.Bruce Arians has staunchly defended Winston's play. However, when asked whether he'd unequivocally support retaining the former No. 1 pick if Bucs ownership requested an evaluation this week, the head coach wouldn't say."I'm gonna pass on that one," said Arians, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. "I'm gonna wait until the end of December."The Buccaneers are divided on what to do with Winston, sources told Laine. Some people within the organization reportedly want to retain him, while others feel the team needs to move on.The quarterback's turnover issues haven't been fixed by the arrival of Arians, who has a long history of mentoring top-level passers. Winston leads the league in interceptions with 20, a career high, but his head coach has consistently said that they aren't all the quarterback's fault. The 25-year-old's game-to-game performance has been boom or bust for the 5-7 Buccaneers, who have been all but eliminated from playoff contention.Winston has six games with a passer rating of over 100, but five games with a rating below 75. Only once has the signal-caller finished a contest between those two marks (89.0 in last week's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars)."There's been really, really, really good and there's been some really, really bad," Arians said. "I'm gonna pass until it's over and then we'll make a decision."Tampa Bay currently sits 14th in the 2020 NFL Draft order, likely too far back to land one of the top quarterbacks in the class without engineering a move up.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. The Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears open Week 14 on Thursday Night Football at Soldier Field. Let's break down the best player props for the NFC tilt.Ezekiel Elliott over 82.5 rushing yardsThe Bears have become synonymous with good run defense. Don't let that perception fool you. Since defensive lineman Akiem Hicks went down with an injury, Chicago's front seven has allowed an average of 98 yards per game on the ground to opposing running backs. Elliott was on track for a big game last week against Buffalo, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. But Dallas dug itself an early hole and played from behind for most of the game, limiting his touches on the ground. The Bears rank No. 12 in rush defense DVOA. Elliott has faced five units that rank inside the top 11 over the last seven weeks.Mitchell Trubisky over 23.5 completionsRemember when head coach Matt Nagy was all for running the ball after the Bears did so fewer than 10 times in a loss to the Saints? That was pretty short-lived. Trubisky has attempted 38 passes or more in each of the last three. The good news? He's connected on at least 24 of them in each game. The Cowboys are the No. 2 DVOA offense in the league, and it would be no surprise to see them take a lead on the road as three-point favorites. It won't take much for Nagy to panic and put Trubisky in plenty of drop-back situations, and the quarterback should have some success against the No. 23 pass defense.Jason Witten over 3.5 receptionsHow ironic that the Cowboys' revamped passing game features a stud go-to option in Amari Cooper, a rising No. 2 wide receiver in Michael Gallup, a solid slot option in Randall Cobb and ... Witten, who missed a full year of action to broadcast games but still has a significant role in the offense.Witten's yard total would scare me - the Bears have allowed a grand total of 65 yards to tight ends over the last three games. But Chicago's defense is giving up close to six receptions per contest to that position this season, and Witten has seen at least five targets in four of his last five outings.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton plans to undergo foot surgery for the Lisfranc injury that has sidelined him since Week 2, Tiffany Blackmon of NFL Network reports.Interim Panthers head coach Perry Fewell said Newton "will have a procedure next week," though he didn't go into specifics. It was reported in November that Newton was considering the procedure. It's unclear why Newton has waited until now to resolve his foot issue. The 30-year-old passer visited a foot specialist in early November with his recovery progressing slowly.Newton revealed in September that he sustained the injury in the Panthers' first preseason game and hid the severity of it from his coaching staff.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Both the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears are playing on Thursday for the second straight week after being featured on the Thanksgiving Day slate. Here's everything you need to know about the NFC tilt from a betting perspective.Line movementThough both teams enter Week 14 at 6-6, the betting market is respecting the Cowboys more.Despite playing outdoors on the road, Dallas is seeing mostly -3 (EV) in the marketplace, with a couple juiced -2.5 lines available. The average closing total for Cowboys games this season has been 46.4 and the Bears are at 40.1, putting the number for Thursday's clash down the middle at 43, with no real movement as of Wednesday afternoon.Betting trendsThe Cowboys lost outright to the Bills as 6.5-point favorites last week. It was yet another defeat against the spread for head coach Jason Garrett, who's on a 1-8 run ATS in Thanksgiving games. Perhaps the Cowboys can rally this week in a more favorable spot. Dallas is 8-3-1 ATS in its last 12 contests as a road favorite. However, getting points at Soldier Field has been kind to the Bears. They're on a 6-1-1 run ATS as a home underdog. After covering so many spreads and being one of the more underrated teams on the market last year, Chicago has experienced some significant regression in its second season under head coach Matt Nagy. The Bears are just 1-7 ATS over their last eight games.Dallas has also gone under the total in 13 of its last 16 December games, while the Bears are 8-1 to the under over their last nine at Soldier Field.X-factorBears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky can put up decent numbers against some of the more average passing defenses.Last week against the Lions (No. 26 in pass DVOA), Trubisky threw for a season-high 338 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Against four defenses that rank in the bottom third of DVOA, he's averaged 250-plus yards through the air with 10 passing touchdowns this year. The Cowboys slot in at No. 23, making their defense a favorable matchup for Trubisky. Plus, if Dallas' high-octane offense can move the ball, Trubisky will need to make some plays through the air to match the pace.PickOver 43I don't think we can downgrade Dallas' offense too much following last week's 26-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The Cowboys still averaged 5.9 yards per play on a short week against a solid defense, and they didn't record a single three-and-out. Two missed field goals and a pair of turnovers on downs dragged their offense down. The Cowboys' offense is still No. 2 in DVOA, and that unit will be the best Chicago has faced all season. It's never ideal to invest in Trubisky, but although this may look like a formidable matchup on paper, the Cowboys' defense is cratering as the season progresses. Let's just hope Trubisky isn't forced to throw to the left all evening.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur announced Wednesday that quarterback Daniel Jones is in a walking boot with a "moderate high ankle sprain" and is unlikely to play against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Newsday's Tom Rock.Shurmur added "it will very likely be Eli (Manning)" starting on Monday Night Football as a result."I've missed being part of the action," Manning told reporters. "It felt good to be out there today (at practice). I hadn't thought about playing in a game, just taking it one game at a time, not making any decisions about the future while living in the present."Jones hurt his ankle in New York's Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The rookie still felt soreness on Tuesday, which led to further testing. The head coach said the injury is "similar but not as severe" as the one Saquon Barkley labored through earlier this season while missing three games, according to Rock.Shurmur added that Jones won't need surgery, but said if the game was being played Thursday or Friday, the 2019 first-round pick wouldn't be able to suit up.Manning began the season as the Giants' starting quarterback, but he was benched in favor of Jones after two games. He's the franchise's all-time leader in wins, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Second-year Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper shocked the NFL community Tuesday, firing Ron Rivera in the middle of his ninth season as the team's head coach.Given the Panthers' current four-game losing streak and slim playoff chances, the surprise wasn't that Rivera was fired. Rather, it was the fact his dismissal came with just four games left in an already lost season. The early move gives Tepper more time to pursue his next coach, particularly when it comes to candidates who are currently unemployed or in the college ranks.Oddsmakers didn't waste any time, either, releasing a shortlist of potential hires on Tuesday. Jim Harbaugh opened as the favorite, but he's since been usurped by Robert Saleh, who's listed at 5-1 after not appearing in the opening odds. Here's a list of odds for potential coaching candidates, with a few interesting names highlighted:COACHODDSRobert Saleh5-1Jason Garrett11-2Dan Quinn6-1Jim Harbaugh13-2Josh McDaniels8-1Greg Roman9-1Urban Meyer9-1Mike McCarthy12-1Jay Gruden14-1Doug Marrone16-1Matt LaFleur16-1Marvin Lewis18-1Pat Shurmur18-1Doug Pederson20-1Bill Cowher100-1Robert Saleh (5-1)The 49ers defensive coordinator is atop many shortlists in the NFL, and rightly so after his work with San Francisco's defense this season. Saleh has been arguably the NFL's most impressive coordinator in 2019 and should be eyeing a head coaching gig somewhere next year.Carolina might not be the fit, though. Tepper told reporters "there's a preference for offensive coordinators" in the "modern NFL," even though the Panthers had one of the league's more tenuous defensive units this season. At short odds, look elsewhere.Jim Harbaugh (13-2)Harbaugh opened as the favorite for the job, but he quickly slid down the oddsboard to his current listing at fourth-favorite. He led San Francisco to a Super Bowl appearance in his last NFL stint, and his ability to quickly revitalize programs could be attractive to Tepper after the Panthers' disappointing 2019 campaign.Perhaps the Michigan coach is the reason for Rivera's early pink slip, but there are better college coaches who more closely fit Tepper's preference for a young, analytics-focused head coach. If Harbaugh returns to the NFL, don't expect him to so in Carolina.Josh McDaniels (8-1)There may be no candidate who better fits Tepper's vision than McDaniels, and a source says Panthers officials are high on him as a potential coach. He makes sense - the Patriots offensive coordinator is one of the most well-regarded young minds in football and could reinvigorate a Carolina team currently wasting Christian McCaffrey's unique skill set.Would the Panthers be willing to take a chance on McDaniels after he left the Colts at the altar two years ago? Or after he flamed out as the Broncos' head coach? Given the early buzz, it seems like they'd take him - if he wants them, too.Greg Roman (9-1)Much of what's said about McDaniels applies to Roman, who's found magic with the Ravens' offense this year and firmly embraced analytics in his decision-making processes. His innovations in the running game should appeal to a team with McCaffrey and quarterback Cam Newton, should the franchise opt to keep the latter for 2020.Roman isn't exactly the "young" innovator painted as Tepper's ideal candidate. Maybe it won't matter, or maybe he can find a better fit than Carolina. Either way, he's a name to watch, especially at long-ish odds.Mike McCarthy (12-1)One of the first candidates floated after Rivera's firing was McCarthy, who won a Super Bowl with the Packers and shares Pittsburgh roots with Tepper. McCarthy is unemployed and can immediately interview for the gig; he could be the reason the Panthers opted to dismiss Rivera early.McCarthy might not be the analytics-focused fit Tepper wants, though, given the constant criticism he garnered for conservative play-calling in Green Bay. Still, McCarthy at 12-1 might be the best value given the early smoke, even if the actual fire wouldn't make much sense.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. As he returns from a two-game suspension, Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey expressed little regret about his involvement in the Nov. 14 brawl between his team and the Cleveland Browns."At the end of the day, the fight didn't look good, but the fight was worth it," Pouncey told reporters, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.Pouncey was disciplined for kicking Browns defensive end Myles Garrett after Garrett swung his helmet at Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph. Pouncey was originally banned for three games but his suspension was reduced following an appeal. The veteran lineman also strongly denied Garrett's claim that Rudolph used a racial slur as the Thursday Night Football brawl escalated."Come on, man, that's not true at all, but we are past that," Pouncey said with a laugh, per The Athletic's Mark Kaboly. "Honestly, you guys know Mason and you guys have been around him a long time. If he was racist, it would've been exposed."Pittsburgh won the Week 13 rematch over Cleveland 20-13, moving to 7-5 on the year.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Ron Rivera said goodbye to the Carolina Panthers during his final scheduled press conference Wednesday morning after being dismissed as the team's head coach.Rivera, who spent nearly nine years with the franchise, expressed his gratitude toward the players and assistants with whom he worked."I've been blessed with many future Hall of Famers, as well as many men who took the opportunity in the league as a stepping stone in life," Rivera told reporters, including Steve Reed of The Associated Press. "Being a head coach is more than disseminating a 3-4 or 4-3 defense. Being a head coach is about being a leader of men, in good times and in bad."Your trust in me as your head coach has never wavered, and I thank you guys for that. Thank you for trusting me with your careers, with the advice I've given both on and off the field to have a lasting impact on their lives."The Panthers fired Rivera on Tuesday amidst a four-game losing streak that has dropped the team to 5-7 and likely out of the playoff picture. Despite a difficult end to his tenure in Carolina, the 57-year-old offered little hesitation regarding his next steps in the NFL."I've got four weeks off, but my intent is to coach again," Rivera said, according to Joe Person of The Athletic."I'm going to be honest with you, I'm kind of excited," he added, referencing potential coaching opportunities.Rivera said he believes injuries were a major reason for the Panthers' lack of success in 2019.The coach ended his press conference by holding up two T-shirts and expressing regret for failing to capture a Super Bowl with the team.

This season hasn't gone as Melvin Gordon had planned. The Los Angeles Chargers running back held out during the first three weeks of the campaign in search of a new contract that never came. He returned to the team in Week 4, hoping to prove his worth in the last year of his deal. But both Gordon and the team have underachieved.Gordon has recorded 468 rushing yards in eight games and topped 100 yards in a contest just once for the 4-8 Chargers. With that production, the two-time Pro Bowler isn't sure he's proven he deserves to be paid like a top running back when he enters free agency this offseason."I don't know, man. It's hard to look and say you warrant anything when you're losing. I just have to do my job. No one knows their situation," Gordon said to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times."It's the business side of things. I don't know if I'll be here or somewhere else. Hopefully, it is here," the 26-year-old continued while speaking about the only franchise he's known."It kind of sucks because a lot of the goals I wanted to reach, individually and as a team, will not be attained this year," he added. "It's unfortunate. A lot of hard work, in a sense, is wasted."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors. With the home stretch of the season upon us, we're identifying one player on each team who could enjoy a late breakout.1. Baltimore Ravens (10-2)Rob Carr / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 1Marquise Brown has produced some big plays during his rookie year, but "Hollywood" hasn't been consistent. Of his six touchdowns, four have come in two games, and he hasn't exceeded 90 receiving yards since Week 1. But the speedster could be the ultimate X-factor in the playoffs.2. Seattle Seahawks (10-2)Previous Rank: 3His most productive days are likely behind him, but Josh Gordon can still be a difference-maker for a Seahawks offense that looks to stretch the field vertically more often than the Patriots, his previous team.3. San Francisco 49ers (10-2)Previous Rank: 2Deebo Samuel has emerged as Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite outside receiver. With nearly a full season of experience under his belt, the South Carolina product may be close to exploding onto national radars.4. New Orleans Saints (10-2)Previous Rank: 4Michael Thomas leads the league in receptions and yards by a wide margin (1,290 yards on 110 catches), and a second Saints receiver needs to lighten his load. Tre'Quan Smith is finally healthy, and he's the likely candidate to serve as Thomas' sidekick.5. Kansas City Chiefs (8-4)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 7The Chiefs need a complementary option alongside LeSean McCoy for the postseason, but Damien Williams and Darrel Williams are both averaging under four yards per carry. Darwin Thompson took a season-high 11 handoffs against the Raiders on Sunday, which is a potential sign of things to come.6. Houston Texans (8-4)Previous Rank: 9Claimed off waivers in mid-November, cornerback Vernon Hargreaves has been thrown into the fire in Houston, primarily drawing slot responsibilities. His coverage grades have improved over two games with the Texans, and he'll likely receive tougher matchups as Houston pushes toward the playoffs.7. New England Patriots (10-2)Previous Rank: 5New England will attempt to jolt a struggling offense, and Jakobi Meyers appears poised for an increase in receiving opportunities. Meyers ranks second on the Patriots with 16 targets over the last two weeks, and the rookie could feast on weak pass defenses in December.8. Green Bay Packers (9-3)Previous Rank: 8A wideout other than Davante Adams needs to step up for Green Bay's passing offense to get hot down the stretch. Allen Lazard notched a career-high 103 receiving yards in Week 13, and his big-play skills could provide a spark.9. Minnesota Vikings (8-4)Previous Rank: 6Minnesota will need Dalvin Cook healthy to be a Super Bowl contender. His injury issues resurfaced on Monday Night Football, so the Vikings could give Alexander Mattison more work in an effort to keep Cook fresh.10. Buffalo Bills (9-3)Bryan M. Bennett / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 10Ed Oliver announced his presence on the big stage Thursday with two sacks against the Cowboys. The ninth overall pick in 2019 is finally hitting his stride, accumulating four sacks over his last three games while displaying the explosion that helped him thrive in college.11. Tennessee Titans (7-5)Previous Rank: 12His debut season in Nashville was quiet to start, but now 2019 free-agent signee Adam Humphries has scored in two of the Titans' past three games. He's still not receiving a large target volume, but he should become a safety net for Ryan Tannehill with his reliable hands.12. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5)Previous Rank: 15Second-year wideout James Washington recorded the first 100-plus-yard game of his career in the Steelers' win over the Browns on Sunday. With the far more aggressive Devlin Hodges now under center, Washington's downfield abilities should be better utilized over the final month.13. Los Angeles Rams (7-5)Previous Rank: 16Todd Gurley has been given 20-plus touches in two of his last three games, the only times this year he's hit that number. The Rams need to ride Gurley if they're going to make a playoff push. His arthritic knee is believed to be the reason for Gurley's conservative usage so far in 2019.14. Dallas Cowboys (6-6)Previous Rank: 11The Cowboys should feature Michael Gallup heavily to reverse their recent offensive struggles. He averaged 17.4 yards per catch in November, and ought to see more playmaking opportunities with recent injuries slowing Amari Cooper.15. Indianapolis Colts (6-6)Tim Warner / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 14Jonathan Williams' breakout has begun. His time replacing an injured Marlon Mack started with recording back-to-back 100-plus-yard rushing performances. The Colts went away from Williams on Sunday, resulting in just 82 rushing yards for the team. As long as Mack is sidelined, Williams should be the focal point of Indianapolis' running game.16. Chicago Bears (6-6)Previous Rank: 20The regression of Chicago's passing attack has impacted Anthony Miller more than most. But the sophomore receiver has bounced back lately, racking up 20 catches for 371 yards over his last three games. His role could continue to grow with Taylor Gabriel still in the concussion protocol.17. Oakland Raiders (6-6)Previous Rank: 13The Raiders are high on cornerback Trayvon Mullen, who moved into the starting lineup when Gareon Conley was traded. The rookie momentarily recorded his second career interception against the Chiefs on Sunday before replay led to a pass interference call against a teammate.18. Cleveland Browns (5-7)Previous Rank: 17Kareem Hunt has already secured a notable role over four games since returning from a suspension. While the Browns will still give the dynamic Nick Chubb more touches, Hunt could reward them if he gets extra carries.19. Philadelphia Eagles (5-7)Previous Rank: 18Few weapons are stepping up for Carson Wentz, who may need to rely more on the steady Dallas Goedert during the final quarter of the season. Goedert ranks second on the team in targets and receptions over the last five weeks, and he's averaging 7.1 yards after the catch per reception - the third-best mark among tight ends.20. Carolina Panthers (5-7)Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 19Greg Olsen suffered a concussion Sunday on a hard hit, opening the door for Ian Thomas to carry the mail as the Panthers' primary tight end for the remainder of this lost season.21. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-7)Previous Rank: 22First-round pick Devin White started slowly, but now he's ascending. He recorded a 13-tackle game in Week 11, and on Sunday grabbed his first interception and broke the game open with a scoop-and-score touchdown.22. Los Angeles Chargers (4-8)Previous Rank: 21Adrian Phillips, who was activated from the injured reserve before Week 13, will improve the Chargers' secondary. However, his greatest impact will be on special teams, where he earned All-Pro honors in 2018.23. Denver Broncos (4-8)Previous Rank: 28Drew Lock gets four more games to show the Broncos he can be their quarterback of the future. The youngster tossed a pair of touchdown passes in his regular-season debut against the Chargers.24. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-8)Previous Rank: 24Rookie defensive back Andrew Wingard drew his first career start in Week 13 and responded with a sack and a forced fumble. With the Jaguars' season done, he'll be one of many looking to make an impression and earn a spot on next year's roster.25. Arizona Cardinals (3-8-1)Christian Petersen / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 25Kenyan Drake has fizzled in recent weeks, so it's time for Arizona to give David Johnson another chance as the team's featured back. Johnson will need to empty his tank over the next four weeks to avoid being released from his three-year, $39-million contract.26. Miami Dolphins (3-9)Previous Rank: 29After a year-and-a-half of disappointment, Mike Gesicki is finally displaying the tools that made him a coveted draft prospect. The tight end has scored the first two touchdowns of his career over the Dolphins' past two games, utilizing his elite athleticism and jump-ball abilities to beat defenders.27. New York Jets (4-8)Previous Rank: 23Quinnen Williams played arguably his most complete game to date during New York's Week 13 loss to the Bengals. With ideal matchups on the horizon, the former Alabama star will likely continue his stretch of stout run defense while improving as a pass-rusher.28. Atlanta Falcons (3-9)Previous Rank: 27The Falcons will likely reinstate rookie guard Chris Lindstrom from the injured reserve soon. If activated, the No. 14 overall pick will be a welcome addition to an offensive line that allowed Matt Ryan to be sacked nine times on Thanksgiving.29. Washington Redskins (3-9)Previous Rank: 31Dwayne Haskins played his best game as a pro against the Panthers on Sunday, but Derrius Guice paced Washington's offense. Guice has created a chunk play in two of his last three games since returning from injury in Week 11 (a 45-yard reception and a 60-yard carry). He's destined for more touches after averaging 12.9 yards per carry in Week 13.30. Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw has appealed his suspension for betting on NFL games, ESPN's David Purdum reports.Shaw was suspended through the 2020 season - and potentially longer - on Friday after the league found that he bet on multiple contests this year. The 27-year-old reportedly made a three-team parlay bet on Nov. 10 that included the Cardinals' Week 10 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If his appeal is denied, Shaw may petition for reinstatement on or after Feb. 15, 2021, Purdum adds.Shaw has yet to make his debut in Arizona. He signed a one-year contract with the NFC West club in March but was placed on injured reserve during the preseason due to a shoulder injury.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has yet to decide whether or not to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.Tagovailoa was the consensus first overall pick until injuries derailed his junior season, and now he's forced to carefully consider his options."You think of risk-reward on coming back. You think of risk-reward on leaving," the signal-caller said, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough. "And when I look at it ... if I come back, the risk is, what if I get hurt again? But the reward could be maybe I jump back to the top of the charts, the boards for all these teams."Tagovailoa, who hasn't spoken with his family about the decision yet, understands he needs to do what's best from a financial standpoint."Now is not the time to be making emotional decisions. But now, you gotta change into thinking as a businessman. You gotta make business decisions," he said.Tagovailoa missed one game in October due to an ankle issue and dislocated his right hip one month later against Mississippi State. The pivot also broke his nose and suffered a concussion on the play.He underwent surgery on his hip shortly after, and doctors revealed the QB could resume throwing activities by the spring. Despite his injury troubles, Tagovailoa is reportedly expected to be a first-round pick next year should he enter the draft."If I leave, the risk is, do I still go in the first round, or do I even make (it) to the second round?" he said. "These guys don't even know if I can play with the hip injury yet, too."The 21-year-old completed 71.4% of his passes for 2,840 yards and 33 touchdowns against three interceptions through nine games in 2019.Prospects have until Jan. 20 to declare for the draft.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the campaign, the team announced Tuesday.Mosley played just two games in his first year with the Jets as he battled a groin injury suffered in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills. The 27-year-old arrived in New York after signing a five-year, $85-million deal in free agency. He was the 17th overall pick of the 2014 draft by the Baltimore Ravens and spent five seasons with the AFC North club.Mosley, a four-time Pro Bowler, posted back-to-back 100-tackle seasons in 2017 and 2018 with the Ravens. He's the second-highest-paid linebacker in terms of average salary in the NFL ($17 million), behind only Seattle Seahawks' Bobby Wagner. The 4-8 Jets currently have the best rushing defense in the league, allowing 75.2 yards on the ground per game. The Carolina Panthers fired head coach Ron Rivera on Tuesday amid a four-game losing streak that has essentially removed them from the playoff race.Secondary coach Perry Fewell was named interim head coach. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner will become a special assistant to the head coach, while quarterbacks coach Scott Turner was bumped up to offensive coordinator."I believe this is the best decision for the long-term success of our team," Panthers owner David Tepper said in a release. "I have a great deal of respect for Ron and the contributions he has made to this franchise and to this community. I wish him the best. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers."Rivera was four games away from completing his ninth season with Carolina. He was Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2015 and led the Panthers to an appearance in Super Bowl 50.The Panthers have been in decline lately, though, and are likely to miss the postseason for the third time in the last four years. Rivera was dealt a tough hand in 2019 as quarterback Cam Newton went down after Week 2 and ultimately landed on injured reserve.Speculation suggested the 57-year-old affectionately known as "Riverboat Ron" was on borrowed time in Carolina because of his resistance to analytics. Tepper, who purchased the franchise in 2018, is a staunch supporter of analytics."We are going to take a comprehensive and thorough review of our football operation to make sure we are structured for long-term sustained success," Tepper said. "Our vision is to find the right mix of old-school discipline and toughness with modern and innovative processes. We will consider a wide range of football executives to complement our current football staff. One change that we will implement is hiring an assistant general manager and vice president of football operations. We all must recognize that this is the first step in a process, but we are committed to building and maintaining a championship culture for our team and our fans."Rivera leaves the Panthers with a 76-63-1 career record. Carolina takes a 5-7 record into its Week 14 meeting with the Atlanta Falcons.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch hinted Tuesday that change could sweep through the organization at the end of the year."It's been a very frustrating season," Tisch told Bruce Beck of WNBC-TV. "At the end ... John Mara and I are gonna get together and discuss the future. As partners, we have to be very honest with each other about where we see this team going into the 2020 season."The two-win Giants haven't tasted victory since Week 4, leading to murmurs that general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur could be on the hot seat. The Giants have reached the playoffs just once since their Super Bowl championship at the end of the 2011 campaign. They look destined to pick in the top six of the NFL draft for the third consecutive year. When asked if he still believes in Gettleman's and Shurmur's ability to lead the franchise, Tisch was mum."Those decisions and (this) conversation are not going to be made this morning," he said. "It's really at the end of the season that John and I are going to sit down and talk about these issues."The Giants are 7-21 in nearly two full seasons under Gettleman and Shurmur, who were both hired in 2018.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Is anyone actually left in their survivor pool? There have been some severely damaging upsets throughout the season, but nothing holds a candle to the chaos of Week 13.The Carolina Panthers lost at home for the first time under Ron Rivera when favored by at least a touchdown. Previously 14-0 in such games, the Panthers were 10-point favorites and held a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. But the Washington Redskins scored the game's next 29 points, even as Dwayne Haskins barely completed 50% of his passes and managing just 147 yards. Disastrous. Then there were the Philadelphia Eagles, who blew a 28-14 third-quarter lead to the Miami Dolphins to lose 37-31 as 10-point favorites in a perfect microcosm of their disastrous season. We're starting to run out of excuses for Carson Wentz, who had his full complement of weapons back for this game, as well as tackle Lane Johnson. Wentz's numbers looked good, but the offense ran dry when needed most.Adding insult to injury, the Dolphins scored possibly the most preposterous touchdown in NFL history when kicker Jason Sanders caught a pass in the end zone from punter Matt Haack. It's only fitting that the play, called "Mountaineer Shot," came against the team whose fans have been shouting "Philly Special" at anyone who'd listen for the past two years. If it wasn't the Panthers or Eagles, maybe it was the Dallas Cowboys, whom I warned you not to pick - not that it mattered, given the fate of the others. Maybe it was the New York Jets, the Los Angeles Chargers, or perhaps even the New England Patriots.Favorite after favorite fell in Week 13, and I'm not so sure there's a survivor pool still active across this continent. But in case there is, here's your guide to picking Week 14:Safest picks1. Minnesota Vikings (vs. Detroit Lions)The title says "safest picks," but is there really such a thing this season? If I wasn't jaded enough before last week, I certainly am now. That said, this is about as confident as I've been about a pick all season. David Blough will make his second career start - and first on the road - against a Vikings team that has the edge over the Lions at just about every position, as well as head coach. Detroit is a defensive mess, and the offense isn't much better with Blough under center - regardless of the adrenaline wave he rode to a half-decent Thanksgiving showing against Chicago. This is a spot where Minnesota absolutely unloads its frustrations on a Detroit team counting the days until the end of the season. The Vikings are 12-1 straight up as home favorites coming off losses under Mike Zimmer. They're 30-5 overall under Zimmer as home favorites and 9-1 overall when laying at least a touchdown. The Vikings are 3-0 against the Lions with Kirk Cousins under center, winning by an average margin of 15 points. Don't think twice about this one.2. Green Bay Packers (vs. Washington Redskins)Let's try not to overthink this contest either. Aaron Rodgers versus Dwayne Haskins. A Packers team gunning for a division title and first-round bye hosting a Redskins club playing a second straight road game and aiming for a high draft pick. Washington upset the Panthers last week largely because of a costly Kyle Allen turnover and Carolina's inability to keep the quarterback clean in the pocket. The Redskins sacked Allen seven times. Rodgers has been sacked seven times total in six home games this season. He also hasn't thrown an interception since Week 6.The only concern might be Green Bay's rushing defense, which is getting gashed on a weekly basis. The Packers are allowing 4.7 yards per rush (28th in the NFL) and 123 ground yards per game (25th). This Redskins team just totaled 248 yards on the ground in Carolina, with Derrius Guice enjoying a breakout game. But even if its running game gets going again here, it's hard to imagine Washington keeping pace with Green Bay's offense, which should have its way with a below-average Redskins defense. The Packers are 51-9 SU when favored by at least six points at home with Rodgers under center, and 13-1 when favored by at least 12 points. This should be close to straightforward for the Cheeseheads.3. Houston Texans (vs. Denver Broncos)Drew Lock's first NFL start was a mixed bag. He made some nice throws, he made some awful throws. He was bailed out by a terrific Courtland Sutton catch on the game's first score and an egregious pass interference call on the game's final drive. He also threw a bad interception at a terrible time. It was one week, and nothing he did against the Chargers will define him or his future. Neither will anything that happens this week. The Broncos rookie will make his first road start this week against a Texans team that's been playing some excellent football lately. Rookie quarterbacks are 0-9 this season on the road against teams .500 or better, a figure that includes Gardner Minshew and his Week 2 loss in Houston. The Texans are 5-1 at home this season and should be able to navigate this game unscathed to keep their march to the AFC South crown on schedule.Week 14 confidence rankingConfidence rankings (CR) are out of 10 based on the author's picksAWAYHOME (SPREAD)WINNER (CR)DetroitMinnesota (-14)MIN (9)WashingtonGreen Bay (-13.5)GB (8)DenverHouston (-9.5)HOU (7)CincinnatiCleveland (-9)CLE (6)MiamiNY Jets (-5.5)NYJ (6)NY GiantsPhiladelphia (-8.5)PHI (5)BaltimoreBuffalo (+5)BAL (3)San FranciscoNew Orleans (-3)SF (2)Kansas CityNew England (-3)NE (2)SeattleLA RamsSEA (2)CarolinaAtlanta (-2)ATL (1)IndianapolisTampa Bay (-3)TB (1)DallasChicago (+3)DAL (1)LA ChargersJacksonville (+2.5)JAX (1)PittsburghArizona (+2.5)PIT (1)TennesseeOakland (+3)OAK (1)Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook said he'll be "good to go" in Week 14 after aggravating a chest injury in his team's loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, per Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune.Cook exacerbated the ailment after fumbling during the third quarter. He quickly returned to the sideline from the locker room but didn't re-enter Minnesota's eventual 37-30 defeat. The running back was on the injury report during the week due to a chest injury he suffered against the Denver Broncos, and he said he got hit in the same spot against the Seahawks.Cook added that he could've returned but sat out the rest of the game as a precaution. The 24-year-old racked up 29 rushing yards, 35 receiving yards, and one touchdown before leaving Monday night's contest.Cook entered the game fifth in the league in rushing yards (1,017).Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jerry Jones believes Jason Garrett will have a job in 2020, though he offered no assurances the Dallas Cowboys will be the team to provide it."In my opinion, Jason Garrett will be coaching in the NFL next year," the Cowboys owner told 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.Garrett has been under fire for weeks - if not years - but Jones has continually ignored fans' pleas for a coaching change. The embattled coach doesn't have a contract for 2020."First of all, Jason Garrett is a good coach," Jones said, addressing his reluctance to make an in-season switch. "He's also one of the hardest working coaches. He knows this team better than anybody. ... I'm glad to have him. He is the guy for the job."The Cowboys were expected to contend for the Super Bowl after returning the core that won the NFC East title in 2018. But they have yet to defeat a team with a winning record this season and have dropped three of their last four contests.Dallas, which miraculously sits atop the division with a 6-6 record, will close out the regular season with games against the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Though you never would have expected to read this back in August, Tannehill actually gives you an excellent chance to do just that. The quarterback from my super deep sleeper list has stabilized the Titans' offense and has emerged as a steady fantasy option in the process. He's thrown multiple touchdowns in five of six games since taking over as starter and now faces a Raiders squad that's allowed the second-most passing scores and ninth-most passing yards in 2019. Prior to Week 13, Tannehill also racked up at least 37 rushing yards in three straight contests and had three touchdowns on the ground during that time.Ryan Fitzpatrick, DolphinsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat NYJ10%$5Could you ever feel comfortable starting Fitzpatrick in a fantasy playoff game? Absolutely not. Few quarterbacks outside of Jameis Winston offer a five-touchdown ceiling mixed with a five-interception floor, but the Dolphins' veteran is on that short list. However, we've seen him deliver top-seven fantasy finishes in three of his last five games and one of those was a 288-yard, three-score performance against the Jets in Week 9. After beginning the year strong, the Jets' pass defense has given up multi-touchdown days to Fitzpatrick (three TDs), Gardner Minshew II (three TDs), Daniel Jones (four TDs), and Dwayne Haskins Jr. (two TDs). So, if you're looking for an upside streamer in a week where there aren't many great options, Fitzpatrick is a high-risk, high-reward play.Other options: Jacoby Brissett at TB (38% owned), Gardner Minshew II vs. LAC (8% owned), Andy Dalton at CLE (8% owned), Derek Carr vs. TEN (51% owned), Devlin Hodges at ARI (2% owned), Kyle Allen at ATL (19% owned)Running backsHannah Foslien / Getty Images Sport / GettyMatt Breida, LeSean McCoy, Derrius Guice, Rashaad Penny, and Duke Johnson are all around the 60% ownership mark and would be the top pickups, if available.Alexander Mattison, VikingsNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidvs. DET28%$100Dalvin Cook left Monday night's game with a shoulder/chest injury, and while he claims he'll be able to suit up in Week 14, we should remember players are almost always overly optimistic about their status. Dr. David Chao of ProFootballDoc.com believes Cook suffered a sternoclavicular joint sprain, an injury that will force him to play through pain the rest of the season and could lead the Vikings to rest him next Sunday. While we wait to see Cook's practice participation later in the week, Mattison needs to be owned everywhere. This is why we've been recommending him as one of the best handcuff or high-upside stashes across the entire fantasy landscape - he's an instant RB1 if thrust into the starting lineup. The rookie gained 73 yards on just eight touches against the Seahawks and would be able to give the Vikings 80-90% of what Cook produced as the lead back. Whatever FAAB money you have left needs to be used on Mattison.Benny Snell Jr., SteelersNext UpOwnershipFAAB bidat ARI34%$39With James Conner's Week 14 availability in doubt, Snell will likely remain the Steelers' lead back for at least another week. In his two starts, he turned 22 touches into 103 yards from scrimmage against the Bengals and followed it up with 17 touches, 67 yards, and a touchdown versus the Browns.

SEATTLE (AP) Rashaad Penny scored one touchdown rushing and one receiving, Russell Wilson hit David Moore for a 60-yard TD pass, and the Seattle Seahawks built a big second-half lead before holding off the Minnesota Vikings for a 37-30 win Monday night.Seattle (10-2) moved into a tie with San Francisco atop of the NFC West but holds the tiebreaker. The Seahawks have the inside track to the division title with four games left.Minnesota (8-4) fell a game behind Green Bay in the NFC North and is only one game ahead of the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card race. They may have lost star running back Dalvin Cook to a shoulder injury when he fumbled midway through the third quarter in what became a major turning point.Wilson wasn't great, but he came up with key plays as Seattle won its fifth straight. He had a forgettable first-half moment trying to bat down a deflected pass only to watch Anthony Harris intercept the ball and return it for a touchdown. Wilson was 21 of 31 for 240 yards. The key was the running of Penny and Chris Carson. Seattle rushed for 218 yards, the most allowed by Minnesota this season. Carson had 102, including a 1-yard TD. Penny added 74. The Vikings were giving up just 94 yards per game rushing.Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins was 22 of 38 for 276 yards but couldn't connect with Irv Smith Jr. on fourth-and-3 at the Vikings 42 with 2:31 left. Jason Myers' 36-yard field goal with 21 seconds left provided the final margin for Seattle. It was a wild second half featuring 40 combined points and four key turnovers - three by Minnesota.Seattle pulled even at 17 on Penny's 1-yard TD run. On Minnesota's first play of the next possession, Cook was stripped by Rasheem Green, and Bradley McDougald recovered. It was the first of two critical turnovers that led to 10 points for Seattle. The Seahawks were held to a field goal following Cook's fumble but took a 27-17 lead on their next possession when Moore ran free through the Vikings secondary and Wilson hit him in stride. Minnesota cornerback Xavier Rhodes appeared to think he had safety help over the top, but no one was there as Moore sprinted for his second TD catch of the season on the next-to-last play of the third quarter. The first play of the fourth quarter was forgettable for the Vikings as well. Cousins' pass for Stefan Diggs was intercepted by Tre Flowers, who may have gotten away with pass interference, but deflected the pass and made a juggling interception at the Minnesota 25. Three plays later, Wilson hit Penny on a screen pass and Seattle had a 17-point lead.Minnesota's rally started with Seattle's own blown coverage as Cousins hit Laquon Treadwell for a 58-yard TD from Cousins. Seattle seemed poised to add on, helped by a fake punt that Travis Homer took for 29 yards, but DK Metcalf fumbled and the Vikings recovered at their 28 with 9:34 left.It took barely 2 minutes for Minnesota to pull within 34-30 as Cousins hit Kyle Rudolph for a 3-yard touchdown and another brilliant one-handed catch by the Vikings' tight end. But that was as close as Minnesota would get.INJURIESVikings left tackle Riley Reiff suffered a concussion early in the second half and was ruled out.
