Report: Josh Shaw made parlay bet on Cardinals game
Last week's betting-related suspension of Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw stemmed from a three-team parlay bet he made that included the Cardinals, ESPN's David Purdum reports, citing multiple sources.Shaw reportedly made his bet Sunday, Nov. 10 at a Caesars sportsbook in Las Vegas. Shaw bet on three Week 10 games, including the Cardinals' tilt against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs, who were up 17-13 on Arizona at halftime, didn't cover the second-half spread and Shaw's bet lost, sources told Purdum.NFL employees are prohibited from gambling on games, but Shaw reportedly listed "professional football player" as his occupation when opening his betting account.Shaw has been suspended through at least 2020 for betting on NFL games. He signed with the Cardinals in March and has been on injured reserve since the preseason.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Cooper keen to re-sign with Cowboys: 'I want to be here'
Wide receiver Amari Cooper is one of several key players on the Dallas Cowboys looking for a new contract next offseason. The stud wideout expressed his desire to stay with the club on Monday."I love it here. I want to be here," Cooper said when asked about his commitment to re-signing with the Cowboys, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "I just love the situation, my teammates. I feel like it's the place for me."Cooper has been Dallas' most productive target since the team acquired him from the Oakland Raiders midway through the 2018 season. He has amassed 117 catches, 1,696 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 21 games as a Cowboy.Dallas exercised the fifth-year option on Cooper's rookie contract in April. The 25-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2020, along with quarterback Dak Prescott and cornerback Byron Jones.Prior to the start of the regular season, Dallas signed running back Ezekiel Elliott, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, and linebacker Jaylon Smith to long-term contracts. The 6-6 Cowboys sit atop the NFC East despite having lost their last two games. They visit the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.Several No. 1 wide receivers signed blockbuster deals last offseason, including Julio Jones and Michael Thomas, the two highest-paid wideouts in terms of average salary.Jones signed a three-year, $66-million contract with the Atlanta Falcons in September, while Thomas formalized a five-year, $96.25-million contract with the New Orleans Saints two months earlier.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Dolphins give Eric Rowe 3-year, $18M extension
The Miami Dolphins agreed to a three-year, $18-million contract extension with defensive back Eric Rowe, a source told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. The pact reportedly includes $7 million guaranteed.Rowe joined Miami on a one-year deal for $3.5 million in March after spending the previous three campaigns with the New England Patriots, where Dolphins head coach Brian Flores was an assistant.Rowe has been a solid addition for the Dolphins, racking up 59 tackles and seven pass breakups through 12 appearances. In Week 13, he helped limit prolific Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz to 24 yards on three receptions. The Dolphins, who have won three of their last five games after beginning the season 0-7, are poised to spend big in the offseason as they look to rebuild a roster that lacks cornerstone pieces. Miami projects to have over $100 million in salary-cap space, along with a trio of first-round draft picks.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Monday Night Football betting preview: Vikings at Seahawks
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. There's a legitimate case to be made that the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings - the fifth and sixth seeds in the NFC - are among the four best teams in the conference. Both still have a chance to earn a top-four seed, and can start with a pivotal Monday night win. Here's everything you need to know about the matchup from a betting perspective:Line movementThe Seahawks opened as 3-point favorites and haven't moved at theScore Bet in New Jersey, though don't be surprised to see the Vikings reach +2.5 by kickoff. The total has been nudged from 49 to 50, which is tied for the second-highest total in the Mike Zimmer era in Minnesota.Betting trendsRussell Wilson's success in prime time is no secret entering Monday, with a 19-6-3 ATS (76%) record and a 6-0-1 ATS mark over his last seven games. Kirk Cousins is just 6-13-1 ATS (31.6%) and 2-4-1 ATS since joining the Vikings.Neither QB has a favorable track record as a short favorite or short underdog, but Monday's line could favor the under here. Zimmer is 18-7-2 to the under (72%) as a road 'dog and 9-3-1 to the under (75%) when catching three points or less. He's also 12-5-1 to the under (70.6%) in prime time, while the under is 24-13 (64.9%) in all prime-time games this year. When two teams are virtually even, expect a low-scoring game. This season, games with a home favorite of 2.5 or 3 points are 15-8 to the under (65.2%). They're also 20-9 to the under (69%) in the last 29 games dating back to last season. The Seahawks' defense was a liability early in the year, but they've shored up some of their secondary issues as evidenced in last week's 17-9 win over Philly. When a team allows fewer than 10 points in their previous game and see a total of 50 or higher, the under is 7-3 in their last 10.The X-factorThere's no doubting the offensive firepower in this game - both teams have top-five offenses per DVOA, with two of the three top-rated quarterbacks by PFF in the league. But don't overlook these defenses, either. The Vikings have the sixth-best PFF grade on defense, while the Seahawks have put forth two of their three best performances in the last three weeks behind an improving pass rush and reworked secondary.Seattle's defense has struggled to tackle for much of the year, which could result in a more aggressive approach stopping stud running back Dalvin Cook. If it does, that'll play right into the hands of Cousins, who ranks second in play-action percentage among QBs with at least 10 starts (Lamar Jackson).PickBased on team resume alone, this couldn't be more of a quintessential "home team by three" type of game. The Vikings are simply a more well-rounded group and have had a week to prepare for Wilson's MVP-level play.If you're married to picking the side, take the points on the road 'dog with a formula to take advantage of Seattle's weaker defense. Otherwise, trust two run-happy teams to keep it close - and low scoring - under the lights.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Chiefs' running game in flux entering matchup with Patriots
The Kansas City Chiefs could find themselves seriously shorthanded at running back for their Week 14 tilt against the New England Patriots.Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced rusher Darrel Williams is unlikely to be available for the marquee matchup, according to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star."That didn't look good," Reid said Monday of the hamstring injury Williams sustained in Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders, per the Kansas City Star's Herbie Teope.Kansas City is already without Damien Williams for the divisional battle due to a rib injury. Veteran LeSean McCoy and rookie Darwin Thompson led the backfield, each scoring a touchdown against the Raiders. The Chiefs might have to rely on those two again in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The running game has been a committee approach this season, as the Chiefs have received contributions from all parties.PlayerCarriesYardsTDsMcCoy844104Dam. Jaguars will start Minshew over Foles vs. Chargers
Minshew Mania is cleared to resume. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday they'll start rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew over high-priced offseason acquisition Nick Foles in their Week 14 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.Minshew replaced Foles on Sunday after the latter struggled to get the offense going for a third straight week. The 23-year-old finished 16-for-27 for 147 yards with one touchdown and an interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The charismatic sixth-round draft choice started eight games earlier this year after Foles broke his clavicle. Jacksonville went 4-4 with Minshew atop the depth chart.Foles' benching raises questions about the 30-year-old's future with the Jaguars, who gave him a four-year, $88-million deal in free agency. The former Super Bowl MVP was brought in after Jacksonville released Blake Bortles from his bloated contract.Minshew has thrown for 2,432 yards with 14 touchdowns against five interceptions in 10 appearances in 2019. Foles has thrown for 736 yards with three touchdowns and two picks over parts of four outings.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
MNF player props: Best bets for Vikings-Seahawks
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Week 13 of the NFL season comes to a close Monday with a star-studded matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks. Here are the best player props for the NFC tilt.Russell Wilson over 1.5 touchdown passesI've been burned by a couple of Wilson-related props in prime time this season. In Week 5 against the Rams, he went over his passing yards prop by 11. In Week 10, he went over his completion prop in overtime. I had the under both times. But last week, I recommended taking his passing yards under against the Eagles. It hit. Don't call it a comeback. This week, I'm taking my first over on a Wilson prop in what should be a track meet in Seattle.Minnesota's secondary has been unusually spotty this season. The run defense has been great, but the pass defense ranks in the bottom half of the league in DVOA. The Vikings have played five offenses this season that currently rank in the top 10 in pass DVOA and allowed at least two passing touchdowns to four of them, the lone exception being Kansas City with backup quarterback Matt Moore.Seattle currently paces the league in pass offense DVOA, and I don't know how you can fade Wilson in prime time.Tyler Lockett longest reception over 21.5 yardsThe Wilson-Lockett combo has been arguably the NFL's best this season. However, the duo hasn't been clicking of late, as Lockett has just four catches for 64 yards and no touchdowns over the last two games. I'd expect a bounce-back performance from the star receiver against the Vikings' secondary, which hasn't been all that great at covering opposing WR1s. Let's take a stab at the longest reception over prop on Lockett, who's had a catch go for at least 21 yards in eight of 11 contests this season.Irv Smith over 27.5 receiving yardsI really like Smith's upside in the passing game and how he's progressed as the season's gone along. After failing to see a target in two of his first four appearances, the tight end has seen at least three in each of the last five and has totaled 20 receptions over that span. The Seahawks' defense is allowing north of 67 yards per game on average to opposing tight ends in 2019.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. NFL Playoff Picture: Ravens jump Patriots for top spot in AFC
In a wild Week 13, a handful of teams' playoff hopes took big blows, while others strengthened a hold on spots for January. Here's how the standings look after Sunday's games.AFCSeedTeamDivisionRecord1RavensNorth10-22PatriotsEast10-23TexansSouth8-44ChiefsWest8-45BillsEast9-36SteelersNorth7-5The Houston Texans upsetting the New England Patriots on Sunday night was an early Christmas gift to the Baltimore Ravens, who jumped to the top of the AFC after seeing off the San Francisco 49ers.The Ravens, who own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Patriots, now control their fate with four games left. While the Patriots remain two games ahead of the Texans and Kansas City Chiefs (their opponent next week), the Buffalo Bills are now just one game behind the reigning champions.Buffalo played New England close in September, with Tom Brady and Co. eking out a 16-10 victory. However, the Bills will likely need to beat the Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers over the next two weeks to make a Week 16 rematch with New England a potential division-deciding contest. But for the first time in recent memory, the race for the AFC East title is alive entering the regular season's final month. In the huntSeedTeamDivisionRecord7TitansSouth7-58RaidersWest6-69ColtsSouth6-610BrownsNorth5-7The final AFC playoff spot is currently a coin flip between the Steelers and the resurgent Tennessee Titans after they both earned crucial wins over fellow wild-card contenders. While both teams face anything but an easy run over the last month of the campaign, Pittsburgh's schedule (at Cardinals, vs. Bills, at Jets, at Ravens) isn't as rough as Tennessee's slate (at Raiders, vs. Texans, vs. Saints, at Texans).A blowout loss to the Chiefs on Sunday effectively ended the Oakland Raiders' chances of winning the AFC West. But if head coach Jon Gruden can rally his team past the Titans next week, Oakland would then face three winnable games (vs. Jaguars, at Chargers, at Broncos) to close out the year. The Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns are holding on by a thread following devastating losses to the Titans and Steelers, respectively.NFCSeedTeamDivisionRecord149ersWest10-22SaintsSouth10-23PackersNorth9-34CowboysEast6-65SeahawksWest9-26VikingsNorth8-3The winner of next week's mouth-watering clash between the 49ers and New Orleans Saints in the Superdome will get the inside track to the NFC's No. 1 seed and home-field advantage through the playoffs. But the Seattle Seahawks - who play the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night - still lie ahead for the 49ers in their regular-season finale. So San Francisco could still be playing on the road during Wild Card Weekend even if the 49ers beat New Orleans. The Green Bay Packers aren't out of the running for a bye after taking care of business against the New York Giants on Sunday. However, the NFC North leaders can't slip up over the last four weeks. They also still need to secure the division, and a matchup against the Vikings is set for Week 16.The Dallas Cowboys, whom the Bills humiliated on Thanksgiving, are likely feeling much better about themselves after watching the Philadelphia Eagles implode against the Miami Dolphins. While Dallas is the NFC East favorite, the outlook for Doug Pederson's team hasn't really changed.Philadelphia and Dallas meet in Week 16. If both the Eagles (vs. Giants, at Redskins, at Giants) and Cowboys (at Bears, vs. Rams, vs. Redskins) win their other three remaining games and Philadelphia takes the Week 16 contest to split the season series, it would earn the division thanks to the common-opponent tiebreaker. In the huntSeedTeamDivisionRecord7RamsWest7-58BearsNorth6-69BuccaneersSouth5-710EaglesEast5-7The Los Angeles Rams kept their slim playoff hopes alive by blowing out the Arizona Cardinals, and Sean McVay's team is now in the strange position of rooting for the divisional-rival Seahawks to take down the Vikings on Monday night. But to realistically leapfrog Minnesota for the sixth seed, L.A. needs wins against both Seattle (at home) and San Francisco (on the road) in the final four weeks. That's a tall order considering the Rams' inconsistent play this season. The Chicago Bears hold a 3% chance of making the postseason, according to fivethirtyeight.com. They'll need to beat the Cowboys, Chiefs, and the division-rival Vikings and Packers for a shot at back-to-back January appearances.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Brady downplays loss to Texans: 'We're not 2-10, we're 10-2'
Tom Brady is trying to keep things in perspective following the New England Patriots' loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday night. The defeat was the Patriots' second in four games. Though it may seem to some like the sky is suddenly falling in Foxborough, Brady won't allow for such an attitude."It's not always going to be perfect. Football's not a game of perfect, it's just got to be a game of pretty good. We're learning as we go. We're not 2-10, we're 10-2," Brady said Monday on "The Greg Hill Show" on WEEI 93.7 FM.New England began the year 8-0, but the offense - with its constantly changing personnel - appears to be struggling of late. Brady appeared to be imploring his receivers to be "faster, quicker, more explosive" with his team trailing the Texans.
O'Brien: Texans players drew up game-sealing trick play 'in the dirt'
The Houston Texans' game-clinching touchdown against the New England Patriots ended with receiver DeAndre Hopkins lobbing a pass to quarterback Deshaun Watson. The unconventional play helped the Texans emerge with a 28-22 victory and was drawn up much like sandlot football.
10 key takeaways from Week 13
Sunday Rundown recaps the most important developments from the day's action and examines the significance of those events moving forward.Young QBs carrying the NFLThis could be a takeaway from nearly any week of NFL action in 2019, but it feels particularly noteworthy after everything we saw unfold Sunday. While there are still a number of teams searching for a franchise quarterback, the quality of young superstars at the position makes this season one of the more exciting times in recent memory. Who can't get into the idea of watching players like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Deshaun Watson doing their thing for the next 10-15 years?Jackson is probably the most dangerous dual-threat quarterback the NFL has ever seen. A top defense like the one San Francisco fields may be able to limit Jackson's passing, but as we saw on Sunday during Baltimore's win, even the most dominant fronts won't stop him on the ground. He's virtually matchup proof.Mahomes helped the Chiefs cruise to a 40-9 win over the Raiders despite not playing his best. It's clear that the Chiefs quarterback is as good or better than most others even when not at his usual elite level. The things he can do with the ball just aren't fair, and it's wild that he's back running for touchdowns weeks after dislocating his knee cap.And instead of talking about how bad the Patriots' offense looked Sunday night (real bad), the focus should be on Watson producing arguably the most impressive performance of his young career in prime time. Throwing the Texans on his back with one Superman-like play after another, he was the key to picking apart New England's vaunted defense en route to a massive win.All three incredibly likable star talents have put their teams on track for the playoffs, and it's going to be a whole lot of fun watching a new generation of great quarterbacks continue to grow.Colts need a QBIt was never going to be easy to fill Andrew Luck's shoes, but it's becoming apparent that Jacoby Brissett won't be the long-term answer at quarterback for the Colts despite initial optimism. He's been praised for his Luck-like demeanor, but his performance has left much to be desired. Brissett plays like the 26-year-old believes he's on par with Luck, yet he doesn't understand that his athletic limitations make comparing the two laughable. He has no hope of outrunning defenders on his attempted scrambles for first downs, and he tries throws that go beyond the limitations of his arm.Brissett's ongoing inability to make plays with pass-rushers in his face is perhaps most worrisome. While working with an injury-depleted receiving corps against the Titans on Sunday, Brissett absorbed multiple sacks and unwisely forced passes into tight windows, resulting in a pair of second-half turnovers. With a young, talented, and deep roster - when healthy, at least - the Colts' window to contend didn't close with Luck's shocking decision to walk away. But it won't stay open with Brissett under center, and Indianapolis should seek his replacement during the draft.General manager Chris Ballard has proven to be one of the NFL's best at trading during the draft to land his targets. Will he consider maneuvering into a position to draft Tua Tagovailoa?Ditto for the RaidersPeter Aiken / Getty Images Sport / GettyDerek Carr's play was a bright spot early in his second season at the helm of Jon Gruden's system in 2019. It seemed, at least for a while, that finally getting some coaching-staff continuity could be what the Raiders quarterback needed to get back to his 2016 MVP-candidate form. But things change quickly in the NFL. Now, after two straight blowout losses when the Raiders managed just one garbage-time touchdown, the most important position on the field is an area of concern going forward.Oakland isn't without its problems elsewhere. But eventually, regardless of what's going on around him, a franchise quarterback needs to show up when it matters most.Carr just hasn't been that guy, especially on the road against the AFC West's dominant team.
Report: Ex-Browns HC Jackson strong candidate for Arizona State's OC job
Former Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson has emerged as a strong candidate for Arizona State's vacant offensive coordinator job, a source told Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.Sun Devils head coach Herm Edwards announced major changes to his offensive staff on Sunday. Edwards said coordinator Rob Likens, wide receivers coach Charlie Fisher, and tight ends coach Donnie Yantis wouldn't be returning next year.Jackson has been out of work since being fired in the midst of his third season with the Browns in October 2018. He finished his Cleveland tenure with a 3-36-1 record, including an 0-16 campaign in 2017.The 54-year-old has plenty of experience as an offensive coordinator. Jackson held the position for the Cincinnati Bengals for two seasons before joining the Browns; he also previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and Washington Redskins. The Sun Devils beat Arizona 24-14 on Saturday night to finish the regular season 7-5 for the second straight campaign.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Browns' Kitchens: I'd wear 'Pittsburgh started it' shirt again
Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens doesn't regret wearing his "Pittsburgh started it" T-shirt.Kitchens wore the shirt Friday prior to the highly anticipated second clash this season between the Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. After Cleveland fell by a score of 20-13 to its division rivals, Kitchens said the shirt - which seems to reference Week 11's game-ending brawl - didn't play a role in his club's most recent loss."I wore a T-shirt. I wore a jacket with it. My daughters wanted me to wear the shirt. And I'd wear it again," Kitchens said, according to NFL.com's Nick Shook. "T-shirt didn't cause us to give up 40-yard passes, and we were ready to play. That's the only thing people need to be concerned about."The Browns dropped to 5-7 this season with Sunday's loss, during which they were outgained 323 to 279 in total yards and committed two turnovers."I don't really have a comment for that. It's just a T-shirt. I've done much worse," Kitchens added, according to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot.Steelers guard Ramon Foster was happy such a fashion statement wasn't made by Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin."I'm glad coach doesn't do anything like that," Foster told reporters. The Browns will try to boost their playoff chances in Week 14 at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jaguars turn back to Minshew amid Foles' struggles vs. Buccaneers
Minshew Mania is back on, at least temporarily. The Jacksonville Jaguars benched Nick Foles at halftime Sunday after going down 25-0 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and relied on Gardner Minshew under center for the second half of the contest.
Giants' Jenkins annoyed by usage: 'Rabbit doesn't travel anymore'
Janoris Jenkins questioned his season-long usage after the cornerback endured an eighth straight loss Sunday with the New York Giants."You've got to use your weapons," the veteran said following the 31-13 defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. "I'm the only one in the league that doesn't travel (with the opponent's top receiver). I don't understand why."Jenkins, a former Pro Bowler, was part of a secondary that conceded four touchdowns to Aaron Rodgers and company in Week 13. He wasn't in coverage on either of the touchdowns scored by Davante Adams, the Packers' top wideout.Without Jenkins shadowing the Pro Bowler, Green Bay picked on youngsters DeAndre Baker and Sam Beal in coverage."It's common sense," Jenkins added. "I'm on the left side of the field all game. I get two passes thrown my way. All the top corners in the league travel. Rabbit doesn't travel anymore."Jenkins had allowed receptions on 32 of 61 targets prior to Week 13, leading to 421 yards and three touchdowns against him, according to PFF. He also had four interceptions and had officially been credited with 13 pass breakups. The 31-year-old broke up one pass and had one tackle against the Packers. When asked if he would voice his frustrations directly to defensive coordinator James Bettcher, Jenkins replied: "I don't have to complain. I have to play football."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Head coach Vic Fangio considered Miller's availability "truly 50-50" prior to the game.Miller had been heating up in recent weeks after a slow start to his ninth season, posting at least half a sack in five of his last seven contests. He's notched double-digit sacks in every year of his career aside from 2013 when he was limited to nine appearances.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: J.J. Watt could return from torn pec for playoffs
The Houston Texans and J.J. Watt share optimism that the five-time All-Pro defensive end could return from a torn pectoral muscle in time for the playoffs, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. There's reportedly even a glimmer of hope that Watt could play in Week 17.Watt suffered the injury in October and was expected to miss the rest of the season, but the Texans are reserving their final IR-return spot for Watt, Rapoport adds. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year has progressed in his recovery and will undergo an MRI in a few weeks.Watt was never officially ruled out for the year, but he tweeted after picking up the injury in Week 8 that he was "absolutely gutted" that he wouldn't "be able to finish the season with my guys."The Texans currently lead the AFC South with a 7-4 record and face the 10-1 New England Patriots in an important AFC matchup Sunday.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Chargers could bench Rivers if struggles continue vs. Broncos
Philip Rivers' leash appears to be tightening amid his recent struggles. The Los Angeles Chargers could bench the veteran quarterback if his slide continues Sunday against the Denver Broncos, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Los Angeles sits at 4-7, two games behind the final AFC wild-card spot. Head coach Anthony Lynn would prefer not to make a change under center, so he won't be quick to pull the plug, Rapoport adds.Rivers has thrown just 15 touchdowns through 11 games, and his 14 interceptions are his most since 2016. He's never tossed less than 20 scores in his career as a starter.Tyrod Taylor is the team's backup and would replace the 37-year-old in the event of a benching.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sunday Night Football betting preview: Patriots at Texans
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Both the New England Patriots and Houston Texans have more important things to consider than a coaching narrative, with division rivals nipping at their heels. Yet the protege vs. master angle looms over Sunday night's contest between two of the AFC's top teams. After five years on the Patriots' coaching staff, Texans coach Bill O'Brien is 0-5 straight up and 1-4 against the spread versus his former team, the worst record of any former Bill Belichick assistant against New England. He needs a win on Sunday to avoid squandering his lead in the tumultuous AFC South, while the Pats can't afford to slip up with Buffalo surging. Here's everything you need to know about the matchup from a betting perspective:Line movementThe Patriots opened as 3-point favorites at theScore Bet in New Jersey and haven't moved off that number all week, though the line is juiced at -120 in favor of New England. The total's seen some movement from 44.5 up to 46 as of early Sunday.Betting trendsBelichick's success against the Texans - including against O'Brien - is well documented, with an 8-3 ATS record and 10-1 record SU. That dominance could continue Sunday after a couple of lethargic showings from his team.Last Sunday's narrow win over Dallas (+5.5) was only New England's fourth ATS loss in 11 games this year. Since 2000, the Patriots are 74-50-4 ATS (59.7%) after losing against the number and 71-54-3 to the under (56.8%). They're 11-6-2 ATS in that spot since 2016 with a stellar 15-3-1 mark to the under, including seven straight.New England is 8-2-1 to the under this year after combining for less than 50 points scored and allowed in the past two games. Teams to fall below that 50-point mark over two games are 8-4 to the under since 2018. They're also 10-6-1 to the under since 1990 when the total is at least 46, as it is for Sunday's game. The Texans are 6-3-2 to the under this year and haven't topped 27 points since Week 6 amid a 1-4 ATS run. The most recent loss came on Thursday night in a near-defeat to the Colts - home teams coming off a Thursday game are 3-6 ATS / 5-4 to the under this year and 7-13 ATS / 14-6 to the under in their last 20 games. The X-factorThe Patriots' once-stout offense ranks just 10th in DVOA and 15th in PFF grades, yet both platforms rank New England's defense as the best in the league behind its historically great secondary. It could force the Texans - one of only two teams with top-nine PFF grades in passing, pass-blocking, and receiving - into a one-dimensional approach on Sunday night. That's no problem for Houston, which ranks tops in the league in rush grade and is tied for second in yards per carry (5.0). New England's defense is among the worst in the league against the run, and the Pats' depleted receiving corps likely keeps them from building a big lead at the expense of the Texans' shoddy secondary. So what does it all mean? Expect a heavy dose of running from Houston, which might try to follow the blueprint the Ravens set forth a few weeks ago. That bodes well for under bettors, even if it might strike fear in those laying points on the road favorite.PickThe Patriots have been favored by more against better teams than Houston, so Sunday's short line feels like a gimme. Still, the Texans' advantage in the run game and New England's lethargic play as of late could set this up as a trap game for the AFC's top seed.Instead, as has been the case all year for the Patriots, eye the under. Sunday's total is approaching must-bet territory for this team, which currently has the ninth-best under win percentage (80%) in the last 30 years. Belichick-coached teams skew defensive after a tough showing, so trust another under on Sunday.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Report: Lock expected to start rest of season, beginning Sunday vs. Chargers
Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock will make his first career start Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers and the job is expected to be his for the remainder of the season, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. His hold on the job will depend entirely on his play. Broncos head coach Vic Fangio was reluctant to announce Lock as the starter until he performed sufficiently in practice this week. The Broncos traded up to the 10th pick of the second round in order to select the Missouri product.Veteran Joe Flacco began the year under center until he was put on IR with a neck injury. Report: Texans to continue operating without GM in 2020
The Houston Texans have operated without a general manager in 2019 and plan to continue with that structure in 2020, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Head coach Bill O'Brien has been handling GM duties, including trade negotiations, and has the final say on roster decisions. After firing general manager Brian Gaine during the offseason, Houston began pursuing New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio. The club was expected to continue that courtship after the 2019 season but that's no longer in the plans, according to Rapoport. The Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans in June but dropped them after Texans owner Cal McNair agreed to end the pursuit of Caserio.Houston's been busy with transactions despite lacking an official GM. The Texans have traded defensive end Jadeveon Clowney while acquiring running backs Duke Johnson and Carlos Hyde, left tackle Laremy Tunsil, receiver Kenny Stills, and cornerback Gareon Conley.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Seahawks' Clowney expected to return for MNF vs. Vikings
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is set to return for Monday night's game against the Minnesota Vikings after missing Week 12 with a core-muscle injury."We just practiced him very lightly today but he did well yesterday and he's fine," head coach Pete Carroll said Saturday, per ESPN's Brady Henderson. "He should be ready to go."The star pass-rusher is listed as questionable along with Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed (ankle) and linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring). Carroll added that Reed is also expected to suit up.Clowney suffered the injury during a dominant performance in a Week 10 win over the San Francisco 49ers.The 26-year-old said he's determined to play through the injury but admitted he might need surgery in the future."So I'm holding that off and trying to finish this season," Clowney said about the possibility of surgery. NFL Week 13 player props: Buy low on Andy Dalton
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News sectionThe player prop market is a hot one for bettors. While standard spread and total bets account for an entire game, individual props focus on specific matchups. Here are five bets to consider for Week 13:Andy Dalton longest completion over 34.5 yardsWelcome back, Andy Dalton. The long-tenured quarterback returns from a three-game hiatus Sunday against the Jets after being benched in favor of rookie Ryan Finley. There aren't many good things to say about the veteran signal-caller when it comes to this season's stats. He only has one more touchdown (nine) than he does interceptions, and his yards-per-attempt average is its lowest since his rookie season. But you better believe I love this spot for Dalton to make at least one splash play. For starters, the Bengals are underdogs (again), potentially putting them in a negative game script from the start. That should put Dalton in plenty of drop-back situations. And while the Jets' run defense is phenomenal, the secondary can be exposed - New York ranks 18th in explosive pass rate allowed this season. I also wouldn't be surprised if Dalton comes out chucking simply because he hasn't seen the field in a whole month.Saquon Barkley over 105.5 scrimmage yardsInclement weather, a bad run defense, and a cluster of injuries on offense? Say no more. Barkley will be a popular play in fantasy and prop formats and I couldn't agree more.East Rutherford is expecting a wintery mix on Sunday. I don't think it'll hinder Aaron Rodgers and the Packers all that much, but it could induce a heavy dose of the ground game from the Giants - as it should. From a fantasy standpoint, only the Chiefs are allowing more points to opposing running backs than Green Bay. The Packers have surrendered an average of 148.7 scrimmage yards per game to running backs this season and a whopping 176.8 over their last four games. Barkley will get the bulk of touches out of the backfield and should see plenty of targets in the short passing game with the receiving corps still banged up.Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw an interception (-170)The Dolphins won't be able to run the ball Sunday. The Eagles rank eighth in rush defense DVOA and Miami's likely going to be playing from behind. No team sees a greater uptick in passing when in a negative game state than the Dolphins. Not only should the quantity be there for Fitzpatrick to turn the ball over - he's attempted at least 36 passes in each of the last six - but Philadelphia's secondary has arguably improved more over the course of the season than any other in the league. The Eagles are now No. 10 in the NFL in pass defense DVOA, and Fitzpatrick has eight picks in four games against top-10 DVOA defenses this season. I don't think this will be a cakewalk for the veteran quarterback.Dede Westbrook over 52.5 receiving yardsD.J. Chark's bandwagon will be full this weekend considering the Buccaneers are the league's worst team against WR1s. I'm hopping aboard Westbrook's instead, mainly because I'll take the lower yardage number on a player who should see similar volume in just as good a matchup. Westbrook lines up in the slot on 78% of his snaps and has 15 targets in two weeks since Nick Foles returned from injury. Know where the Buccaneers rank against slot receivers? Also last in the league.Tom Brady over 282.5 passing yardsBrady hasn't caught many breaks lately. He's played three units that rank top 10 in pass defense DVOA over the past month and he's coming off consecutive bad-weather games. Houston's will be the worst secondary he's seen since early October and the overall volume this year - 36 or more pass attempts in all but one game - inspires confidence that Brady can cash in on this total.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Report: Redskins evaluating status of president Bruce Allen
Amid a disappointing 2019 campaign culminating in a 2-9 record, the Washington Redskins may be looking at drastic changes.Redskins owner Daniel Snyder understands adjustments must be made and is currently evaluating president Bruce Allen's status with the team, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.League sources added Snyder believes Allen's involvement in football operations is hurting the franchise's bottom line, according to NBC Sports' JP Finlay.Allen was hired by Washington in 2009 as executive vice president and general manager. He was promoted to president in 2014 but later relinquished his duties as general manager in 2016.Since the executive took control of the Redskins, his team has accumulated a 61-93 record with no playoff wins and two NFC East titles.Snyder is often quick to lead changes to Washington's coaching staff, but Allen has long avoided the hot seat despite his lack of success.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Lane Johnson signs record extension with Eagles
Lane Johnson has agreed to a four-year, $72-million extension with the Philadelphia Eagles, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history based on average annual value, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports. At $18 million annually, Johnson eclipsed the $16.5 million per season that Trent Brown secured from the Oakland Raiders last offseason. The deal reportedly guarantees the Pro Bowl right tackle $54.595 million, which is also a record for an offensive lineman.Johnson is in the middle of another excellent season despite missing Week 12 with a head injury. He's expected to clear concussion protocol and return to the lineup Sunday when Philadelphia faces the Miami Dolphins. The 29-year-old has been one of the game's top tackles since the Eagles drafted him fourth overall in 2013. Johnson made back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2017 and 2018.
Cardinals' Shaw suspended through at least 2020 for betting on NFL games
Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw has been suspended through the 2020 season - and potentially longer - for betting on NFL games on multiple occasions this season, according to a release from the league.Shaw has been on injured reserve since the preseason. The NFL said its investigation found no evidence that any games were compromised, or that any teammates, coaches, or players were aware of Shaw's activity."The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said. "At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances. If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football."Shaw, a fifth-year veteran, played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining Arizona this year. The 25-year-old, who's been limited to seven appearances in 2019, has posted 543 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season. The Chiefs will host the Raiders in Week 13. Redskins' Kerrigan to miss game for 1st time in 9-year career

He'll be inactive Sunday when Washington faces the Carolina Panthers. The 31-year-old has eclipsed the 10-sack plateau in each of his last three seasons, but he has just 4.5 through 11 games in 2019 and is on pace the lowest total of his career.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cowboys won't replace struggling kicker Maher
The Dallas Cowboys have no plans to work out free-agent kickers or sign one in light of Brett Maher's inconsistencies."We have confidence in Maher," Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said Friday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. "We are going to stick with him."Maher missed both of his field-goal attempts on Thanksgiving Day in the Cowboys' 26-15 home loss to the Buffalo Bills. The 30-year-old has missed nine of his 28 tries this season, giving him an ugly 67.9% conversion rate.Maher went 29-for-36 on field goals last year. He won the Cowboys' kicking job before the 2018 season, beating out veteran incumbent Dan Bailey. The reeling Cowboys have pledged loyalty to the status quo several times in recent weeks, with owner Jerry Jones adamantly opposing calls for in-season coaching changes. NFL Week 13 underdog plays: Steelers, Broncos, Vikings
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. The Denver Broncos prevented a clean sweep in this column last week, while the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets both got the job done.As a whole, underdogs went 8-6 ATS in Week 12, albeit with only three outright wins. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we're presenting you with three new 'dogs that should win outright in Week 13.Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh SteelersLine: Browns -2This is probably as big a revenge spot as you'll see all season, and it could not have come with a better coach. Mike Tomlin's decision-making can sometimes be criticized, but anyone who faults his abilities as a motivator is flat-out wrong. There's nobody better when it comes to rallying players for a big occasion. You can analyze all the numbers and statistics you want, but the bottom line is that Tomlin won't let his team lose this game. He'll have the image of Myles Garrett's attack on Mason Rudolph ingrained in the minds of his players, and he'll have them prepared to go to battle for each other. Tomlin is also 9-2 ATS as an underdog in December.Devlin Hodges will get the nod at quarterback this week, and that should boost the Steelers' offense, as Rudolph is simply incapable of driving it down the field. Getting Juju Smith-Schuster and James Conner back will be a massive help as well. The Browns' offense has not traveled well this season, and now it gets a motivated Steelers defense that's among the best in the NFL and dominated the Rams in its last home game. Of these teams, Pittsburgh is better suited to grind out a slugfest and will take care of business on Sunday.Pick: Steelers +2, Steelers MLLos Angeles Chargers at Denver BroncosLine: Chargers -2.5It really looks like the Chargers have no interest in playing this season out. Philip Rivers is a warrior, but he seems to have hit a wall - both physically and mentally. Every throw he makes appears to be labored, and it doesn't help that he's being beaten up in the pocket. Turnovers are also becoming a big issue, as he's thrown seven interceptions in the past two games.Rivers will have his hands full with a Broncos defense that's come on incredibly strong over the course of this season. Denver's defense now ranks top 10 in points allowed, yards allowed, and yards allowed per play while rating as the league's second-best unit in red-zone percentage. That's problematic for a Chargers offense that ranks 26th at converting in the red zone.Denver has also been improving on offense and should have no problem gashing the Chargers' run defense, which ranks 27th in DVOA. The Broncos are 8-1-1 ATS as underdogs of three or less since 2015, including 4-0-1 over the last three seasons. They're also 4-1 ATS and straight up in their last five games as underdogs against the Chargers.Pick: Broncos +2.5, Broncos MLMinnesota Vikings at Seattle SeahawksLine: Seahawks -3This is by far the riskiest of the three picks, but it's also the one the data supports most. The Vikings simply rate better in just about every category. The Seahawks have given up the sixth-most yards per game at home and the fifth-most yards per play. They've also allowed the third-most yards per game through the air at home. Seattle's defense can be had, and the Vikings are more than capable of taking them to the woodshed. It's just a question of whether good or bad Kirk Cousins will show up.We've been seeing less and less of bad Cousins lately, though. He's thrown just one interception since Week 3. Over his last seven games, he's completed more than 73% of his passes with 18 touchdowns and an average of 289 yards through the air. If he can keep that up, the Vikings will get their ninth win of the season in Seattle. The Seahawks likely got a small bump in these odds because of their impressive record in prime time and due to having one of the best home-field advantages in the NFL. With all of that factored in, oddsmakers appear to believe Minnesota would be around -1 on a neutral field. However, the stats suggest a bigger gap between these teams, so there's a lot of value to be had thanks to public perception.Pick: Vikings +3Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. Brees: Saints have 'bigger fish to fry' after clinching NFC South
The New Orleans Saints clinched the NFC South with their Thanksgiving win over the Atlanta Falcons, but Drew Brees isn't ready to call this season a success."This was objective No. 1, obviously - win the division," Brees said, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett. "But I think you know our mindset and the group of guys we have in there and just kind of how we've progressed each and every year. We've got bigger fish to fry, so to speak."Brees took a back seat in the win - completing 18 of 30 passes for just 184 yards and a touchdown - as New Orleans' defense stymied its opponent. The Saints' postgame gear echoed Brees' sentiment, as players wore T-shirts in the locker room that read "The South Is Not Enough," according to Triplett."We all know what the goal is," versatile quarterback Taysom Hill said, according to NOLA.com's Rod Walker. "You can't overlook winning your division and getting back to the playoffs and certainly trying to get back to the NFC Championship Game. But the ultimate goal is to always win the Super Bowl. But we know there are steps to get there."New Orleans sits second in the NFC at 10-2 with a first-round bye in the playoffs well within reach.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Bills' Beasley: 'Glad I'm on this side' in return to Dallas
Buffalo Bills receiver Cole Beasley returned to Dallas on Thursday and looked like a man possessed.Beasley had his best performance of the season in the Bills' win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, finishing with six catches for a season-high 110 yards and a touchdown against the franchise with which he spent the first seven years of his career. The 30-year-old wasn't focused on revenge, though, but rather was motivated by making another positive stride with his new club."I'm just glad I'm in a place coaches believe in me, teammates believe in me, and they give me opportunities to do what I do," Beasley said postgame, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques. "I was telling everybody before the game, I'm just glad I'm on this side while we're here."It's been a great experience, and everybody else played their butts off and got win No. 9. That's the most important thing, so I'm just glad to take another step forward."In his first season with Buffalo, Beasley is on pace to have the best statistical campaign of his career, and his contributions have helped the 9-3 Bills own the third-best record in the AFC."I'm just grateful, really, for (Beasley) and his mindset, as well, because of what he comes from and what he stands for," Bills head coach Sean McDermott said. "He's just one piece but there's a lot of other stories in our locker room of guys like Cole - that maybe it didn't work out in one place, but it works out in Buffalo."That's the culture we're trying to build, where guys come to Buffalo ... and they can become the best version of themselves."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Dallas Cowboys defensive end Michael Bennett was emotional and could be heard screaming inside the team's locker room after a 26-15 home loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving Day, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
Jerry Jones: 'Zero chance' of Super Bowl run without Garrett
Jason Garrett's job is safe for the time being.Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said his team would have "zero chance" of making a Super Bowl push if he fires head coach Jason Garrett this season, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News."I'm not going to make a coaching change," said Jones with tears in his eyes following Dallas' 26-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.Thursday's loss was the Cowboys' third defeat in their last four games, dropping the NFC East leaders to 6-6. Dallas sits just ahead of the 5-6 Philadelphia Eagles, who play the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The Cowboys and Eagles face off in Week 16 in what could be a division-deciding game.Despite their recent slump, Jones still believes the Cowboys can get hot over the last four games of the year."I've made a lot riskier bets," he said, according to Jori Epstein of USA Today.Garrett is in the midst of a contract year. Prior to Thursday's game, it was reported the longtime head coach would need to make a deep playoff run to keep his job, though the team has no intention of firing him during the season. On Wednesday, Jones continued to pile the pressure on Garrett, saying "in this business, you've got to come in first."Dallas faces the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams over the next two weeks before the potentially pivotal matchup with Philadelphia.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cowboys' Cooper to get X-ray on knee
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper said he'll get an X-ray on his knee Friday following the loss to the Buffalo Bills, according to Jane Slater of NFL Network.Cooper took a helmet shot to his left knee late in the fourth quarter of Thursday's contest but was able to finish the game.
Cowboys falter again as Bills inch closer to playoffs
The Dallas Cowboys did nothing to cool head coach Jason Garrett's hot seat on Thanksgiving Day while falling 26-15 at home to the Buffalo Bills.Dallas lost for the third time in four games, days after owner Jerry Jones called out Garrett and his staff. Buffalo, meanwhile, inched closer to locking up an AFC playoff berth by improving to 9-3.Beginning games slowly has hindered the Cowboys all season, but they actually started strong on Thursday. Their offense marched down the field on the game's opening possession, capping the drive with an eight-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Jason Witten. However, it was all downhill from there for Dallas. The Bills rattled off 26 straight points before conceding a garbage-time touchdown that brought the score to within two possessions. The Bills got two touchdowns from quarterback Josh Allen - a 25-yard pass to former Cowboys receiver Cole Beasley, and a 15-yard rush - along with a 28-yard passing score from John Brown to Devin Singletary on a trick play.Dallas still hasn't defeated a team with a winning record this season, but the Cowboys remain atop the weak NFC East.Special teams were problematic for the Cowboys yet again in Week 13, as Brett Maher missed both his field-goal attempts. Dallas also suffered from special-teams miscues during Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots, drawing the ire of Jones.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Julio inactive for Thanksgiving matchup vs. Saints
Atlanta Falcons star receiver Julio Jones won't play against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night after his status was a game-time call due to an AC joint sprain, the team announced. The Falcons were reportedly optimistic about Jones suiting up despite the shoulder injury, but it appears the club is being cautious with its franchise player on a short week, and with Atlanta's playoff hopes done.It will be Jones' first missed game this season. He's recorded 64 catches for 950 yards and four touchdowns in 11 contests. With the All-Pro sidelined, the Falcons' passing attack will go through second-year receiver Calvin Ridley, and fellow sophomore Russell Gage will likely see an expanded role. The Falcons will get an offensive boost with Devonta Freeman active after missing the last two games due to a foot injury.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Rudolph putting Steelers first following benching: 'I will be ready'
Mason Rudolph isn't starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers anymore, but the quarterback hasn't lost his first-string attitude. The second-year signal-caller made his first eight career starts in 2019 before being benched for Devlin Hodges after struggling against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12. But Rudolph is taking his demotion in stride."You handle it with a good attitude, with a team-first attitude," Rudolph said, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "I can only control how I react and how hard I prepare, knowing that I'm one play away. I'm going to support the guy, knowing that this is a crazy game and you've got to be ready when your number is called. I will be ready, for sure."Rudolph took the reins during the Steelers' Week 2 matchup after veteran Ben Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending elbow injury. In nine appearances this year, the 24-year-old completed 61.6% of his passes for 1,636 yards and 12 touchdowns against nine interceptions.Despite likely watching Sunday's much-anticipated clash against the Cleveland Browns from the sidelines, Rudolph is confident he'll be given a chance to earn his spot back after speaking with head coach Mike Tomlin."He said this isn't his final decision, and any player wants a chance to play every week," the pivot said. "That's the way I'm going to look at it and continue to work and grow and learn from mistakes and continue to play well and practice hard."The 6-5 Steelers face the 5-6 Browns two weeks after their game-ending brawl in Week 11.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Garrett must make deep playoff run to stay with Cowboys
Ahead of a pivotal Thanksgiving matchup with the Buffalo Bills, Jason Garrett's seat appears hotter than ever. The Dallas Cowboys head coach, who is in the final year of his contract, needs to go deep into the playoffs to earn another deal with the team, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday. The news comes one day after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones implied the team must "come in first" for Garrett to keep his job.Dallas is coming off a Week 12 loss to the New England Patriots and the rival Philadelphia Eagles trail the Cowboys by just a game in the NFC East.Jones previously stated he won't make an in-season coaching change, so Garrett will coach his squad until the end of the year regardless. ESPN's Ed Werder added Thursday that Garrett will indeed finish the season.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
