The Denver Broncos were one of the final four teams in the running for Kirk Cousins, but apparently, they didn't actually make an offer for the top free-agent prize, according to the quarterback's agent.Mike McCartney said he told interested parties he would accept one offer per team, essentially creating a silent auction for Cousins' services, per Peter King of SI.com.With the Minnesota Vikings - the ultimate winners - and the cap-rich New York Jets the favorites, the Broncos went for the safe route by opting out of the Cousins sweepstakes and signing Case Keenum instead.King surmised that Broncos general manager John Elway was wary of losing out on both Cousins and his plan Plan B in Keenum, adding he likely had an issue with paying $10 million-$12 million more per season for the former Washington Redskins signal-caller due to the number of high-profile Broncos players in need of extensions in the near future.Cousins signed a fully guaranteed $84-million deal with the Vikings, leaving the Broncos with questions still to answer about the future of their quarterback position, despite signing Keenum, whose relatively minor two-year, $36-million deal locks him in as a stop-gap option. The Broncos sit at No. 5 in the draft, and will likely need to trade up if they have their sights set on a particular quarterback prospect - especially after the New York Jets leapfrogged them thanks to acquiring the Indianapolis Colts' No. 3 selection.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Buffalo Bills are expected to copy the dramatic maneuvering of their AFC East rival, the New York Jets, and engineer a draft trade-up to presumably secure one of the class' top quarterback prospects. However, while the NFL world awaits Buffalo's move, Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Friday - the day before the Jets traded for the No. 3 overall pick - that his team has yet to formulate their final opinions on the quarterback prospects and therefore aren't ready to determine if a trade is necessary."The truth? Most of these quarterbacks I've only spent 15 minutes with," Beane said, according to Peter King of SI.com. "I haven't spent enough time to have an opinion about any of them yet, honestly. I actually sent a little note to our (scouts) yesterday. We got six weeks to get our board together."I am not there yet, knowing if we can or will move up again. I want Sean to get to know all of them. We're just keeping an open mind. Where we're at, we've got the picks, we've got the draft capital. I'm not ready to pull the trigger."The Bills signed AJ McCarron during free agency, likely to act as a potential stop-gap starter or veteran voice alongside any potential incoming rookie.Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, and Josh Rosen are generally seen as the top four quarterbacks, but with the quarterback-desperate Cleveland Browns and the Jets at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, Buffalo will likely need to trade up to the New York Giants' No. 2 spot to land its desired next face of the franchise.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is planning to visit with the Los Angeles Rams, reports Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports, citing the player.Suh has reportedly already met with the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans. The 31-year-old has not discussed money with the Saints or Titans thus far, using the meetings to assess the organizations themselves, reports Schultz.According to Spotrac, the Rams have over $36 million in cap space to bring Suh into their defense, which has already added cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters this offseason.Adding Suh, who was released by the Miami Dolphins less than a week ago, to join reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald would give the Rams a truly formidable defensive tackle duo.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The free-agent frenzy is over and one position remains virtually untouched.Aside from Tyrann Mathieu joining the Houston Texans, the safeties on the free-agent market have reportedly garnered little interest. Eric Reid claimed his history of protesting during the national anthem has kept owners from calling, but others like Morgan Burnett, Kenny Vaccaro, Tre Boston, Mike Mitchell, and Tyvon Branch have also found it hard to find suitors. While we can't explain why this market is so slow, there are several teams who should be taking advantage of the available names before they're scooped up.Carolina PanthersCurrent projected starters: Mike Adams & Colin JonesThe Panthers don't have a ton of cap space to work with, but they certainly need to upgrade the back end of their secondary considering how many talented quarterbacks and receivers are in their division. The team released Kurt Coleman, who started for three years, and didn't replace him, leaving career special teamer Colin Jones as the projected first-stringer.Indianapolis ColtsCurrent projected starters: Malik Hooker & Matthias FarleyBefore Malik Hooker's injury last season, he looked to be well worth the first-round pick, but Matthias Farley's skills are so far behind his young teammate's. The Colts smartly stayed away from overpaying players during the first wave of free agency and have more cap space to work with than anyone. Hooker deserves a safety partner he can learn from like Burnett, who helped with the development of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in Green Bay. The Colts can get better at a lot of positions, but safety may be the quickest fix.Cleveland BrownsCurrent projected starters: Jabrill Peppers & Damarious RandallAfter converting Jabrill Peppers from linebacker to safety as a rookie last season, the Browns will attempt to switch the newly-acquired Damarious Randall to the same position. Though Randall played safety in college, he's been a cornerback through the first three years of his pro career and the Browns could use someone with more familiarity playing the role in the NFL. A veteran who wouldn't be expected to play every down - like Branch or Mitchell - could be very helpful supporting these two potential stars.San Francisco 49ersCurrent projected starters: Jimmie Ward & Jaquiski TarttJimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt were adequate starters for the 49ers under the low expectations of their 2017 season, but with over $45 million in cap space, San Francisco can easily get better. Richard Sherman brings a new attitude to the Niners secondary and could use more talent around him as the team's re-building process under John Lynch has been jump-started. It was somewhat surprising for them not to be in on Mathieu once he was released, and would be rather disappointing if Sherman was the only piece added to the secondary this offseason.Washington RedskinsCurrent projected starters: D.J. Swearinger & Deshazor EverettAfter Washington avoided using their cap space to sign Kirk Cousins, they haven't done a lot with the available money, as receiver Paul Richardson has been their only notable signing. They have enough room to add whichever defensive back they want and can give Josh Norman help. Perhaps the reputation of organizational dysfunction has precluded free agents from having interest in Washington, but they need to find an edge to attract veterans and convince current players not to leave.Tampa Bay BuccaneersCurrent projected starters: Chris Conte & Justin EvansThe Bucs tried to address their weakness at safety by signing T.J. Ward days before the 2017 season, but he was not helpful. Justin Evans looks to have a decent future after a solid rookie season, but Chris Conte is still a below average starter who has been playing out of necessity the past three years. After having the worst pass defense in the league last year, Conte and a second-year player aren't going to cut it.Pittsburgh SteelersCurrent projected starters: Sean Davis & J.J. WilcoxThe Steelers tend not to be active in free agency unless they have a real weakness, but their secondary in general fits that category. Sean Davis and J.J. Wilcox are certainly in the bottom half of the league's safety tandems and there is virtually no depth behind them unless Joe Haden switches positions. Le'Veon Bell's contract negotiation may be keeping the Steelers from spending much in free agency as they have minimal cap space, but before Week 1, they need to get better (or at least deeper) at safety.(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Oakland Raiders have reportedly traded two-time All-Pro return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson to the New England Patriots, according to Pardon My Take and confirmed by The Athletic's Vic Tafur.NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the teams will swap late-round 2018 picks, with Oakland receiving a fifth-round selection and the Patriots a sixth-rounder.Patterson accumulated 968 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in 2017, his first season with the Raiders after spending the first four years of his career in Minnesota. One of the Vikings' three first-round selections in 2013, the speedy receiver never emerged as a top pass-catching option.Patterson heads to New England as the most likely candidate to replace Dion Lewis as the team's kick returner. He may struggle for wideout snaps but offers versatility to line up in numerous positions on gadget-type plays.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The New York Jets made the first blockbuster trade of the 2018 NFL Draft Saturday, acquiring the No. 3 overall pick from the Indianapolis Colts for the No. 6 overall pick and three second-round selections (two in 2018, one in 2019).On the surface, the price to move up three spots appears hefty for the Jets, but how does this deal compare to other trade-ups into the top five in recent history?1999 draftNew Orleans SaintsWashington RedskinsNo. 5 (Ricky Williams)No. 12No. 71 (3rd round)No. 107 (4th round)No. 144 (5th round)No. 179 (6th round)No. 218 (7th round)2000 1st-round pick2000 3rd-round pickIn one of the most memorable trades in league history, New Orleans surrendered all six of their 1999 selections, plus two high picks in 2000 in order to select Ricky Williams fifth overall. Fast forward almost 20 years, it appears NFL teams have learned from the Saints' mistake. Moving up just seven spots commanded a price that fans will almost certainly never see again.2009 draftNew York Jets Cleveland BrownsNo. 5 (Mark Sanchez)No. 17No. 52 (2nd round)DL Kenyon ColemanQB Brett RatliffS Abram ElamWe'd be remiss not to mention the Jets' trade for quarterback Mark Sanchez. Looking back on this deal, New York did not give up very much to move twelve selections. Coleman and Elam each spent two unproductive seasons in Cleveland, while Ratliff did not play a single regular-season snap. This was certainly one of the lower returns a team trading out of the top 10 received this century.2012 draftWashington Redskins St. Louis RamsNo. 2 (Robert Griffin III)No. 6No. 39 (2nd round)2013 1st-round pick2014 1st-round pickThe Redskins parted ways with three first-round picks and a second-rounder for the right to select Robert Griffin in 2012, including a 2014 first-rounder that ended up being a second overall pick for St. Louis. To move up four spots, albeit into the top three, Washington paid a hefty price in a trade that did not land them the franchise quarterback they had hoped for.2013 draftMiami DolphinsOakland RaidersNo. 3 (Dion Jordan)No. 12No. 42 (2nd round)At first glance, it appears the Dolphins relinquished an incredibly light load to move up nine selections, especially compared to the other deals listed. It is, however, important to note that the 2013 draft did not feature a consensus first-round quarterback prospect (EJ Manuel was first off the board, 16th overall). The main takeaway from this trade is that quarterbacks clearly impact the return price on draft deals.2016 draftLos Angeles RamsTennessee TitansNo. 1 (Jared Goff)No. 15No. 113 (4th round)No. 43 (2nd round)No. 177 (6th round)No. 45 (2nd round)No. 76 (3rd round)2017 1st-round pick2017 3rd-round pickThe 2016 draft featured two trades leading up to Day 1. To move up 14 selections, the Rams parted ways with a whopping six picks between rounds one and three. This was certainly a larger haul than the Jets and Dolphins surrendered to move into the top five in 2009 and 2013, respectively.Philadelphia EaglesCleveland BrownsNo. 2 (Carson Wentz)No. 82017 Conditional 5thNo. 77 (3rd round)No. 100 (4th round)2017 1st-round pickThe second overall selection did not appear to cost Philadelphia as much as the Rams gave up in the trade above. The Eagles parted ways with their 2017 first-round pick, but also sent just a third- and fourth-round pick to Cleveland in return. Hopefully, you are beginning to notice a pattern here: the cost of moving into the top five usually includes a future first-rounder.2017 draftChicago BearsSan Francisco 49ersNo. 2 (Mitchell Trubisky)No. 3No. 113 (3rd round)No. 177 (4th round)2018 3rd-roundIn a deal that occurred just last year, Chicago moved up just one spot, but had to give up three selections (including two Day 2 picks) in the process. While the Bears did not have to jump other teams to acquire their quarterback of choice, it is interesting to note the price for a deal between two teams selecting inside the top three.ConclusionThe Jets surrendered three second-round picks to move up three spots in the 2018 draft, including two selections inside the top 50. While this is a notable return for the Colts, New York did not give up a future first-rounder. The Rams, Eagles, and Redskins all relinquished multiple first-round picks to trade into the top three in recent deals.Indianapolis did well to net three selections in return, but the recent market would have dictated a higher price for the Jets. General manager Mike Maccagnan will be criticized for trading in March without definitive knowledge of which prospects the Browns and Giants will select prior to No. 3, but the deal cost them significantly less than most top 10 draft deals this century.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. As the first major wave of free-agent signings comes to a close, teams around the league are patting themselves on the back for securing some of the biggest prizes available on the open market. However, while free agency is a powerful tool in the NFL, it's one not always wielded effectively or strategically. The assumption is that free-agent signings, maybe even more so than drafting players, are an art form teams haven't yet perfected. So, with the main part of 2018 free agency in the rearview mirror, let's examine exactly how successful the biggest 10 signings in terms of annual average salary were from each of the previous six seasons.Free-agent signings have been given a star rating from one to five. Factors considered include the length of time spent with signing team, level of performance compared with similarly compensated players, and overall impact made on the future of the franchise. Players who re-signed with the same team were omitted.2017 (Salary cap: $168M)PlayerTeamAAV/YrsRatingDE Calais CampbellJAX$15M/4âââââQB Mike GlennonCHI$15M/3ââCB A.J. They snagged two premier defenders in Calais Campbell and A.J. Bouye, who both made the All-Pro teams in their first season in Jacksonville. In contrast, the less said about Mike Glennon's time in Chicago the better; the only saving grace to the move was that it was a one-year mistake that didn't prove too damaging. Meanwhile, five offensive linemen were paid handsomely, with varying results. Andrew Whitworth continued to perform at a Hall-of-Fame level as part of the upstart Rams, while Matt Kalil played like a replacement despite being paid like a top-10 player at his position.2016 (Salary cap: $155M)PlayerTeamAAV/YrsRatingQB Brock OsweilerHOU$18M/4âDE Olivier VernonNYG$17M/5âââCB Josh NormanWAS$15M/5ââDT Malik JacksonJAX$14.25M/6ââCB Janoris JenkinsNYG$12.50M/5âââQB Ryan FitzpatrickNYJ$12M/1ââG Kelechi OsemeleOAK$11.70M/5ââââCB Sean SmithOAK$9.50M/4ââDT Damon HarrisonNYG$9.25M/5ââââLB Bruce IrvinOAK$9.25M/4âââAverage score: 2.6/5.0Oh, Texans, Texans, Texans. Houston will never rid itself of the shame of Brock Osweiler's ridiculous contract. Osweiler is followed by a host of players whose performances, while sometimes very good, haven't consistently played to the level their massive deals demand. Olivier Vernon and Janoris Jenkins looked like slam-dunk signings in 2016, but Jenkins especially had a troubled 2017 as his play dipped and he clashed with former head coach Ben McAdoo. Malik Jackson has been solid, but he's vastly overpaid and his arrival was made somewhat redundant by Campbell signing a year later.2015 (Salary cap: $143M)PlayerTeamAAV/YrsRatingDT Ndamukong SuhMIA$19.06M/6âââCB Darrelle RevisNYJ$14.02M/5âDE Greg HardyDAL$11.31M/1ââWR Jeremy MaclinKC$11M/5âââTE Julius ThomasJAX$9.20M/5ââC Rodney HudsonOAK$8.90M/5ââââDE Jared OdrickJAX$8.50M/5ââRB DeMarco MurrayPHI$8M/5ââWR Torrey SmithSF$8M/5ââG Mike IupatiARI$8M/5âââAverage score: 2.4/5.0Ndamukong Suh, who just hit the open market again, didn't have the most successful time in Miami but remained an elite player over his three-year stint. His rating is mostly lowered by the ridiculous enormity of his contract and the Dolphins' inability to build around him. Darrelle Revis, DeMarco Murray, and Julius Thomas were huge busts, but the cornerback's return to New York was particularly bad considering he received nearly $40 million in guaranteed money for just two forgettable seasons.2014 (Salary cap: $133M)PlayerTeamAAV/YrsRatingCB Darrelle RevisNE$12M/1âââââDE DeMarcus WareDEN$10M/3âââââCB Aqib TalibDEN$9.50M/6âââââLT Branden AlbertMIA$9.40M/5âââS Jairus ByrdNO$9M/6ââDE Michael JohnsonTB$8.75M/5âDE Julius PeppersGB$8.67M/3âââââDE Jared AllenCHI$8M/4ââWR Eric DeckerNYJ$7.25M/5âââCB Dominique Rodgers-CromartieNYG$7M/5âââAverage score: 3.4/5.0Now, this is more like it. Revis was a huge factor in the Patriots' Super Bowl win and didn't require a long commitment. Meanwhile, DeMarcus Ware formed the league's best pass-rushing duo with Von Miller and was key to the Broncos' 2015 title, as was Aqib Talib, who made four straight Pro Bowls in Denver. Julius Peppers' impact wasn't quite as great as the other five-starred players, but his deal was a steal and the Packers deserve credit for realizing just how much he had left in the tank. Michael Johnson's awful deal has been mostly forgotten already outside Tampa Bay, but the defensive end lasted just one year despite $18 million in guaranteed money. Mike Wallace had nearly 1,800 yards in two seasons but receives a rating of two stars mostly because he was the third highest-paid receiver at the time of signing. Jake Long's contract was reasonable but his play was subpar and, while impossible to predict after a mostly injury-free career, his two ACL tears in two seasons were devastating. It was a bad year for offensive linemen signings in general, with Andy Levitre and Gosder Cherilus also failing to come anywhere close to living up to their huge deals.2012 (Salary cap: $120M)PlayerTeamAAV/YrsRatingQB Peyton ManningDEN$19.20M/5âââââDE Mario WilliamsBUF$16M/6âââWR Vincent JacksonTB$11.11M/5ââââCB Brandon CarrDAL$10.02M/5âââCB Cortland FinneganSTL$10M/5ââG Carl NicksTB$9.50M/5ââWR Pierre GarconWAS$8.50M/5ââââCB Eric WrightTB$7.50M/5ââG Ben GrubbsNO$7.20M/5âââRT Demetress BellPHI$7M/5ââAverage score: 3.0/5.0The Broncos' signing of Peyton Manning and how perfectly they built their roster around him to maximize his final years should be taught in NFL history lessons. It's the easiest five-star rating over the past six years - though it must be noted how unique his path to free agency was. Meanwhile, Mario Williams produced three straight 10-plus-sack seasons before flaming out in Buffalo, which drags his rating down. His crazy contract was a significant factor too, but overpaying is part of free agency and pass-rushers rarely hit the open market. Vincent Jackson and Pierre Garcon are the first receivers to get a rating above three, a worrying sign for any team that has shelled out a big contract to a wideout this offseason. What did we learn? The top of NFL free agency isn't quite a coin flip, but it's close. The 60 players evaluated earned 170 points out of a possible 300. Only two free-agent classes (2014, 2017) finished with a rating significantly above average, and as previously mentioned, it usually takes at least two seasons to truly evaluate whether a signing was a success, so that class could still take a dive.Star RatingPercentage of signings (60)15 %241.67 %331.67 %48.37 %513.33 %Only 13 out of 60 players were given four stars or above, so the chances of hitting big on a top free agent over the past six years stand at around 22 percent. And just eight (13 percent) were given five-star ratings, so if you're hoping for an elite return from your team's top-10 free-agent investment, prepare to be disappointed. What does this mean for 2018's free-agent class?Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford, Case Keenum, Sammy Watkins, Nate Solder, Trumaine Johnson, Allen Robinson, Andrew Norwell, Malcolm Butler, and Ryan Jensen are currently the best-paid free-agent signings in terms of AAV (though Suh is likely to push Jensen out of the top 10).Based on the past six seasons, only two of these 10 players will be big successes (four-star rating and above) and only one of those will be considered an elite signing (five-star rating).Meanwhile, seven out of the 10 will likely be viewed as an average (three-star) or below-average signing, with an all-time bust like Osweiler coming around every couple years. It's possible the lesser deals in free agency are the more successful ones, but it's clear teams struggle to identify which top talents to pay. While free agency is a time of hope, there's a reason teams labeled the "winners" of the offseason often find themselves struggling to meet expectations.(Contract numbers courtesy: Spotrac)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New York Jets sent the first major shockwave through the 2018 NFL Draft by acquiring the No. 3 overall pick from the Colts on Saturday, sending the No. 6 overall selection and three second-rounders to Indy in exchange. The move is sure to have wide-reaching effects around the league, but here are four early takeaways from the blockbuster trade:Jets rate top QB prospects equallyJosh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield are generally considered the top four quarterback prospects in the draft (though Lamar Jackson has passionate fans). New York's move is clearly for a quarterback; teams simply don't deal premium assets not to select a franchise-changing player, and the Jets have had serious questions under center for years. But, by only jumping up to No. 3 overall, the Jets are unlikely to land whichever QB sits at the top of the draft board. The Cleveland Browns are all but certain to take a passer and it's also not impossible to think the New York Giants will fall in love with a prospect between now and April 26, even with the team supporting Eli Manning. It's clear New York is confident that either their desired QB - perhaps Mayfield, who would be an instant superstar in The Big Apple - will be available, or they have near-identical grades on the top prospects and are happy with whoever they select at their newly acquired draft slot.No. 2 overall pick becomes major question markThe problem for the Jets, however, is the organization just sent a clear message to the rest of the league that at least two quarterbacks are going in the first three selections. And in doing so, New York shines the trade-up spotlight onto their neighbors, the Giants, who own the No. 2 overall pick. Any other QB-needy team that was seeking a trade into the top five - the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills, the likely candidates - will probably now be calling the Giants to inquire about the cost of jumping the Jets. And why wouldn't the Giants listen, considering the haul Indy received. As previously mentioned, it's possible this doesn't matter to the Jets, who are guaranteed to get one of the top four quarterbacks. But the Giants - maybe partly out of spite of their rivals - could be more tempted to draft a quarterback at No. 2 or trade down with the likes of Denver for an equal haul of picks. Or they could draft Saquon Barkley - anything is possible. The 2018 draft could change completely depending on this pick.Colts fleeced the Jets The Colts look like the big winners of this trade upon initial examination. The Jets paid heavily to move up just three spots, proving there truly is quarterback tax when it comes to draft trade-ups.Of course, if New York ends up selecting a quarterback who turns into a franchise player, the price will be forgotten. The Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles presumably have zero regrets about their 2016 trade-ups to grab Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, respectively.Still, it was a risky and aggressive move for New York, but likely one that needed to happen after whiffing on Christian Hackenberg and failing to convince Kirk Cousins to join them over the Minnesota Vikings.Ballard's long-term plan comes into focusThe Colts' free-agency plan has been sharply criticized so far, with Indy unable to sign any big-name free agents. Only rotational pass-rusher Denico Autry has been brought in by second-year general manager Chris Ballard, who had the third-most cap space at his disposal entering free agency. However, Ballard continuously stated that the Colts wouldn't pay premium prices for B-level players despite their ample cap space, and emphasized the team's desire to build through the draft and construct a roster capable of competing for a long time. Ballard added after the announcement of the trade that the move was ideal for the Colts because it still allows them to "get a premium player" while still being able to "replenish our young talent."He isn't wrong. The likes of pass-rusher Bradley Chubb, defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, and guard Quenton Nelson should still be on the board at No. 6 overall. Additionally, the Colts can now add two more impact players in the second round to help fill the many holes on their roster, as well as a second-rounder next season. It might be one of the first major steps on the long path back to contention, but the Colts' plan has crystallized.(Photo courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Let the draft trades begin. The New York Jets acquired the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft from the Indianapolis Colts for the Nos. 6, 37, and 49 overall picks, plus a 2019 2nd-rounder, the teams announced. The No. 49 pick was originally Seattle's, but was acquired in last year's Sheldon Richardson trade.Signing Kirk Cousins was the Jets' primary plan to address their quarterback position in 2018, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. With the trade into the top three and Cousins landing in Minnesota, New York has the chance to land one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the draft instead. As for the Colts, general manager Chris Ballard loads up on picks and still has his team in prime position to select a top non-quarterback sixth overall. Indianapolis owns four top-50 picks in 2018.Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has less than six weeks to shore up his strategy for April's draft, and potentially decide which quarterback lands at the top of his board.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Tyrann Mathieu said it wasn't all about the money - evidently, he wasn't joking.A source told the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers that the Arizona Cardinals were willing to pay Mathieu $8 million in 2018. The defensive back rejected the offer and accepted a one-year deal from the Houston Texans worth $6.5 million, with up to $500,000 in incentives if he plays in all 16 games. There isn't a substantial difference between the two figures, but more often than not, NFL players try to obtain the most lucrative deal in free agency.Mathieu reportedly wanted to sign with a team that values defensive football, and apparently found a fit in Texans DC Romeo Crennel's scheme.Still just 25 years old, the former third-round selection adds a versatile chess piece to a talented Houston defense.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc.
