Report: Free agent DeMarco Murray set to visit Lions
Free-agent running back DeMarco Murray is scheduled to visit the Detroit Lions on Monday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. It will be Murray's first visit since being released by the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. The 30-year-old struggled with injuries and inconsistency during the 2017 season, averaging career lows in yards per carry (3.6) and rushing yards (659) while scoring six touchdowns.Detroit has a clear need at running back heading into 2018, owning the league's worst run offense last season. The team has not had a 1000-yard rusher since Reggie Bush in 2013. Murray alone has eclipsed the barrier twice since then. The veteran ball carrier may be attempting to land a contract before the new league year begins Wednesday, when other talented free-agent backs become available.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. O.J. gives 'hypothetical' accounts of 1994 murders in 2006 FOX interview
Warning: Video contains graphic contentIn a never-before-seen interview aired on FOX, O.J. Simpson described a hypothetical account of his involvement in the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. The two-hour special "O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession?" hosted by Soledad O’Brien, featured Simpson's 2006 conversation with Judith Regan, who published his 2007 book "If I Did It." The program also included a panel of analysts, including Christopher Darden, one of the prosecutors from Simpson's criminal trial. In the bizarre interview, Simpson speculated about the night of June 12, 1994, when Brown and Goldman were murdered.
Report: FOX targeting Jason Witten for TNF analyst job
Tony Romo's most reliable option on the field might become his competitor off of it.FOX Sports is targeting Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten as an analyst for Thursday Night Football starting this season, a source told Michael McCarthy of the Sporting News.Witten would first need to retire in order to take the position.Peyton Manning, who recently turned down ESPN's offer, is also considered a candidate for the job, but if he doesn't want the gig, the network views Witten as a possible hire.Without having missed a game since 2003, Witten is under contract with the Cowboys through 2021 and said after the 2017 season that he plans to play at least one more year. In November, the 35-year-old was also linked to a head coaching job at Tennessee, his alma mater, but he quickly denied interest. If he were to go from the field to the broadcast booth, he would join a stable of former Cowboys in the media, which includes Romo and Troy Aikman.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Chargers, Casey Hayward agree to reported 3-year, $36M extension
The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to a contract extension with cornerback Casey Hayward.Hayward's extension is reportedly a three-year deal worth $36 million, including $20 million fully guaranteed, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Chargers previously signed the former Green Bay Packer to a three-year, $15-million contract in 2016, which proved to be a worthy investment. Hayward has picked off 11 passes in two seasons with the club, while evolving into one of the NFL's premier cover corners. The reported $12 million average annual value would make him the 10th-highest paid player at his position, according to Over the Cap.The 28-year-old started all 16 games for the Chargers in 2017 and was named a second-team All-Pro.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. LeBron James may not be interested in making the switch to the NFL, but Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid seems receptive to the idea.Embiid joked about playing alongside Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton after a report emerged Saturday about Fanatics owner Michael Rubin entering the race to buy the team.
Report: Wilkerson continuing free-agent tour with visit to Redskins
Free-agent defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson has added a fourth team to his search for a new home, scheduling a visit with the Washington Redskins on Monday, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson. The 28-year-old has already met with the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs without reaching a contract following his release from the New York Jets in late February.Wilkerson played the last seven seasons with the Jets, twice being named a second-team All-Pro player, but has had his play drop off the past two seasons after signing a five-year, $86-million contract in 2016 and reportedly developing off-field issues with the club.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. 10 players who could be headed home in free agency
Hometown discounts don't really seem to exist in the NFL anymore, but that doesn't mean no one wants to play at home. With March 12 marking the first day in which pending free agents can speak with teams, and signings coming as soon as two days later, some of the best available players could be headed close to home to play for the team they may have grown up cheering for.Andrew Norwell, guardTeam: Cincinnati Bengals | Hometown: Cincinnati, OhioThe 26-year-old is the best offensive lineman on the free-agent market, with deep ties to his native state. Coming out of high school as a top prospect at his position, Norwell went to Ohio State before being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014. The Bengals are loaded with about $40 million in cap space and have needs all across their offensive line, though they've often been quite stingy in free agency.Paul Richardson and Marqise Lee, receiversTeam: Los Angeles Rams | Hometown: Los Angeles & Inglewood, CaliforniaSammy Watkins looks to be out of the Rams offense after one year, leaving room to potentially acquire another Los Angeles native to catch passes alongside Robert Woods.Richardson and Lee both present interesting options for Sean McVay after each having breakout seasons in 2017. Richardson's threat as a deep receiver may be more of a fit to replace Watkins, but Lee had great success in college at USC playing with Woods, and he may want to be back in Hollywood. With over $36 million in cap space, the Rams might just sign both.Dontari Poe, defensive tackleTeam: Tennessee Titans | Hometown: Memphis, TennesseePoe spurned the Titans last offseason, choosing to sign a one-year deal with the Falcons who were fresh off their Super Bowl loss. The 27-year-old didn't wow his new team enough to earn an extension during the season and looks to be headed back to the market. Unlike last offseason, the Titans have a buzz surrounding their team thanks to a new coaching staff, which includes renowned defensive coordinator Dean Pees. Playing beside Pro Bowl tackle Jurrell Casey in Pees' system could lure the Memphis native back to his home state.Nate Solder, offensive tackleTeam: Denver Broncos | Hometown: Buena Vista, ColoradoPossibly just by default, Solder looks to be the top free-agent offensive tackle on the market. The 29-year-old was born in Denver, grew up in Buena Vista, and played his college ball at the University of Colorado. The Broncos haven't been shy about adding former New England Patriots to their team as they look to get back in contention for the top spot in the AFC. With Garrett Bolles locked in at left tackle, Solder could be a formidable right tackle in Denver.Trumaine Johnson, cornerbackTeam: San Francisco 49ers or Oakland Raiders | Hometown: Stockton, CaliforniaJohnson's hometown of Stockton is almost equal distances from both Oakland Coliseum and Levi's Stadium, so he's got options. The 28-year-old has made over $30 million over the last two seasons thanks to the franchise tag, and he is almost certainly done with the Rams with the arrivals of Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters. Johnson will be one of the top-paid free agents, making the 49ers and their $70 million in cap room a more likely destination than the Raiders, who are moving soon. Don't expect Richard Sherman's arrival in San Francisco to deter Johnson or the 49ers of pursuing a homecoming.Tyler Eifert, tight endTeam: Indianapolis Colts | Hometown: Fort Wayne, IndianaEifert has been defined by his injuries the past few seasons, so going to a club that doesn't need him to play every snap is probably for the best. And the last time the Colts were a playoff team, they had two tight ends catch a team-leading eight touchdowns. The 27-year-old, who played in Indiana all the way through college, could be the second member of a dynamic duo with the ever-reliable Jack Doyle and should be a cheap signing wherever he goes.Morgan Burnett, safetyTeam: Atlanta Falcons | Hometown: College Park, GeorgiaThe Packers look to be saving money at safety for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, whose contract ends after 2018, so letting go of Burnett after eight seasons would, therefore, make sense. The 29-year-old was born in Tennessee, but was raised in the shadow of Atlanta and went to college at Georgia Tech. The Falcons don't have dire needs at any particular position, but they have a talented young safety in Keanu Neal who could use a veteran partner to lean on.Austin Seferian-Jenkins, tight endTeam: Seattle Seahawks | Hometown: Fox Island, WashingtonSeferian-Jenkins' recovery from alcohol addiction was one of the most inspiring stories of the 2017 season, and as he tries to rewrite his own legacy, the Seahawks are reshaping their identity. The 25-year-old put up career highs in yards (357) and catches (50) last season with the Jets, hinting that he could fill in for Jimmy Graham's production (57 catches, 520 yards, 10 TDs in 2017) if he got to play with a talent like Russell Wilson.Teddy Bridgewater, quarterbackTeam: Miami Dolphins | Hometown: Miami, FloridaWho signs Bridgewater and for how much are two of the more prominent questions surrounding free-agent quarterbacks. His hometown Dolphins have reportedly shown interest in the 25-year-old, who has not completed a pass since 2015. Bringing in one quarterback with a knee issue to compete with another quarterback with a knee issue seems an odd move, but that's never stopped the Dolphins in the past.(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Woman in video with Beckham says he didn't do drugs
The woman seen in a viral video with Odell Beckham Jr. says the New York Giants receiver was not doing drugs. The video shows Beckham lying in a bed with aspiring model Laura Cuenca. An open pizza box lies between the two and, in the short video clip, Beckham is holding an unidentifiable object and it appears the model is holding a credit card with a white substance sitting in front of her."No. He did not take any drugs!" Cuenca responded in an Instagram message to Ari Gilberg of the New York Daily News. She did not respond to further questioning about the presence of drugs in the room. She did, however, say that Beckham was holding "a piece of pizza" and the video is of recent events. The Giants have acknowledged the video exists but have not provided any further comment. Cuenca said she has been contacted by the team.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Rams' McVay says renewed rivalry with 49ers is fun, exciting for division
A new era has dawned in the NFC West. One in which the Legion of Boom may be dismantled, the Los Angeles Rams are the kings of the division, and the San Francisco 49ers are the up-and-comers.Following a flurry of movement, including the Rams trading for star corners Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, and the 49ers agreeing to terms with former Seahawks corner Richard Sherman, the longtime rivals can't wait to go at it."I think it's fun to go against guys like that," Rams head coach Sean McVay said of the 49ers, according to team reporter Kristen Lago. "I think for our division as a whole, you're excited about the competitiveness. I don't know that I really can say I'm excited, but it's going to be a great challenge for us going against them again next year."Related - Wild, wild west: A revamped NFC West could take the NFL by stormMcVay and Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan are considered the new breed of the coaching fraternity, and quarterbacks Jared Goff and Jimmy Garoppolo may be the league's next stars at the position. They'll all have to wage battle twice a year for as long as they compete in the same division."I always joke with Kyle, 'You know, I wish you were in another division,'" McVay said. Giants release Rodgers-Cromartie after 4 seasons
The New York Giants have released corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after spending the last four seasons with the team, the club announced Sunday. The move frees $6.5 million for a team ranked in the bottom third in available cap space. The team had reportedly asked the 10-year vet to take a pay cut.The Giants were also considering moving the longtime cornerback to safety under new head coach Pat Shurmur. The much-traveled former first-round pick spent the past four years with the Giants. He didn't record an interception in 2017, failing to do so for the first time since 2011. He was also suspended by the team for one game for violating team rules and leaving the facility ahead of a practice.Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple remain at corner for the team.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Talib rejected trade to 49ers, wouldn't report
Aqib Talib and Richard Sherman found new teams in the NFC West, but their landing spots could have been very different had Talib agreed to the first trade proposal. The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade Talib to the Los Angeles Rams, but only after the cornerback rejected a deal that would have sent him to the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Anticipating the Broncos were looking to move on from him, Talib had asked to be released so he could pick his next destination. Had he been traded to the Niners, the five-time Pro Bowler would not have reported to the team, Schefter adds.Instead, he was reunited with his former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips in L.A. and the 49ers turned their attention to Sherman, whom they reportedly signed to a three-year deal on Saturday. Now the two will do battle twice a year in the NFC West.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jets promise to be 'very active' on 1st day of free agency
The New York Jets plan on being major players in free agency and they don't care who knows it.Just days before free agency is set to begin, general manager Mike Maccagnan revealed he's planning on landing some big fish."Obviously we'll be very active on the first day in terms of the higher profile guys," Maccagnan said, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post."I think the one thing I've noticed in the NFL this year or in the past years, I should say, is free agency moves very quickly. If you have guys targeted and you have your range how you value them, we'll be very active."The Jets are tops in the league with roughly $90 million in salary cap space. Free agency won't officially begin until Wednesday, but teams can begin contract negotiations with impending free agents on Monday.Related: Updated salary cap space for all 32 teamsThe rebuilding Jets have numerous holes on their roster, including at starting quarterback, running back, and cornerback. However, perhaps encouraged by their surprising 5-11 finish in 2017, it appears the club is looking to accelerate the reconstruction."It will be interesting to see which players we can potentially line up first for initial visits," Maccagnan said. The Jets are expected to be players in the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes and will reportedly pay "whatever it takes" to land his services."We may sign a big-ticket guy. We may sign a small-ticket guy. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out," Maccagnan added. "Everybody is well aware we have quite a bit of cap space to work with. There are quite a few players we're interested in."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Sherman provides up-and-coming 49ers with much-needed identity
Richard Sherman provides everything you could ask of the modern professional athlete. An elite talent capable of taking over a game by himself, Sherman is also a brash, hyperintelligent personality who is among the NFL's most eloquent thinkers, often driving the narrative about on- and off-field issues.Sherman agreed to a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday and now provides his new, up-and-coming club with a much-needed identity.Jimmy Garoppolo is clearly the face of the franchise, a notion Sherman wouldn't contend. Garoppolo was acquired from the New England Patriots and once 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan turned the offense over to his new quarterback, he took the league by storm. Although his outstanding play earned Garoppolo nicknames like "Jimmy GQ", "Gucci Garrop", "Optimus Dime" - not to mention a record-breaking contract - there's little about his personality that changes the culture of the 49ers.Enter Sherman.San Francisco's defense is brimming with young talent, but would you be able to identify Solomon Thomas, DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead, or Reuben Foster for an autograph if you saw them walking downtown? Probably not, unless you're a 49ers diehard, and that qualifier may not be enough. Malcolm Smith and Earl Mitchell are the only defensive starters who are 28 or older, and Sherman immediately becomes the leader of the secondary. Ahkello Witherspoon showed promise during his rookie year, while Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt are capable safeties, but Sherman will be asked to lock down one side of the field as he routinely did in Seattle, while giving a largely anonymous group a powerful voice. It should be noted Sherman is coming off an Achilles injury and turns 30 in three weeks, so it's possible we've already seen the best of him. However, he is an exceptionally cerebral player who seldom relied on his speed throughout his tenure with the Seahawks, leading many to believe his game will age well with the 49ers. Sherman's unwavering confidence helped the Seahawks become the defining defense of their generation and his proven track record ought to make his new team better than a merely talented sum of parts. If the signing goes as planned, Sherman ought to invigorate a talented, young defense and put them over the top, while giving the media some great quotes in the process. The term "culture change" is thrown around too often in sports, but that's precisely what Sherman provides: an identity for a loose collection of individuals still yet to reach their zenith. San Francisco will still build on its free-agency haul, knowing full well it has a defensive leader both on and off the field.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. NFL world reacts to Sherman agreeing to deal with 49ers
Richard Sherman will become a member of the San Francisco 49ers once the new league year begins Wednesday.Sherman's decision to join the 49ers drew a mixed reaction across the league. It appears Sherman's former teammates weren't too happy about the impending move, with the Seahawks-49ers rivalry in full effect during his tenure.
Wild, wild west: A revamped NFC West could take the NFL by storm
It is getting wicky, wicky wild out west. The new league year hasn't even started yet and the NFC West is stealing headlines as free agency approaches and trades become increasingly popular across the NFL.All four NFC West clubs - the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Arizona Cardinals - are not only setting themselves up to be major talking points through the offseason, but also the 2018 season and beyond as they each present a unique outlook for the present and future.Rams: Aggressive expansionIt is almost as if the Rams thought Jimmy Garoppolo finished last season so strong that they needed to preemptively fuel their defense to stop him.The Rams have already shaken up their roster in a major way, trading for All-Pro corners Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib while shipping linebacker Alec Ogletree to the New York Giants. They slapped the franchise tag on safety Lamarcus Joyner, leaving Sammy Watkins to hit free agency, and finally made the decision to move on from first-round bust Tavon Austin.Los Angeles will likely renegotiate Talib's contract, which is currently set to carry an $11-million cap hit in 2018, but even before freeing up some money there, it sits tenth in available cap space at $36.75 million.Related - Timeline: 13 raucous days of Rams movesLetting go of Watkins and Austin opens up a space for offensive-minded head coach Sean McVay to add some new targets for Jared Goff that could make the young offense even more fun to watch than the 2017 version. Versatile playmakers like Jimmy Graham, Dion Lewis, Marqise Lee, and Terrelle Pryor could thrive under McVay.The offensive explosion headed by McVay, Goff, and Todd Gurley put the Rams back on the map in Los Angeles, and now they are making sure to stay there.Seahawks: A historic shakeupThere has been plenty of focus on the possible dismantling of the "Legion of Boom" with Richard Sherman released, Kam Chancellor considering retirement, and Earl Thomas flirting with trade talk, while the always-vocal Michael Bennett was traded away. But this turnover goes further than the players.Related: The 'Legion of Boom' changed the culture of football for the betterPete Carroll has virtually cleared out his coaching staff, firing offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, defensive coordinator Kris Richard, and offensive line coach Tom Cable, among many others. The Seahawks have gone from one of the most consistent teams in the league, reeling off five straight double-digit-win seasons. The new regime will bring back Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner, and Doug Baldwin, with new leadership positions up for grabs.Seattle has not been much of a player in the free-agent market in recent years as it's had an abundance of in-house talent to pay, but will likely need to be much more active in order to replace the departed starters. Being one of the more unpredictable and creative front offices in the league, there's really no telling what the Seahawks will look like in 2018.49ers: Who wants to join the Jimmy G show?Typically, when a team combines a top-10 draft pick with over $65 million in cap space, a first-time head coach and general manager in their second seasons, and a quarterback with only seven career starts, it's not considered a strong free-agent destination. The 49ers, however, have made it work.Garoppolo's impressive five-game winning streak to conclude the season may have sunk the 49ers' draft position, but it heightened their viability as a free-agent destination.Any top free-agent offensive weapon - whether it be Graham, Lee, Lewis, Allen Robinson, Paul Richardson, or Sammy Watkins - should be licking their lips at the chance to get in on Garoppolo's rise to NFL stardom.Related - Film breakdown: Jimmy Garoppolo has all the makings of a starThe 49ers are building a strong defensive front through the draft, but need help at linebacker and in the secondary. Luckily, they have plenty of cap space to recruit top talent, and it's already helped them land Sherman after the four-time All-Pro's release from Seattle. In just a year, the combination of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch is well on its way to returning the 49ers' culture to where it was under the great Bill Walsh.Cardinals: The mystery teamWho are these Arizona Cardinals? So far, they've given little indication as to whether they are rebuilding or still just trying to get Larry Fitzgerald a ring. While the rest of the division has been making endless noise, the Cardinals and their new head coach Steve Wilks have barely made a peep, other than a handful of players suggesting Kirk Cousins should head to the desert. The team is lacking at many key positions, including having no quarterbacks on the roster, but has very intriguing, versatile players like Fitzgerald, David Johnson, Chandler Jones, Patrick Peterson, and Deone Bucannon to build around.General manager Steve Keim is projected to have around $20 million in cap space, but has a slew of aging contracts that he could cut to create more room.Player Position Age 2018 cap hit $ saved by cuttingTyrann MathieuDB25$14.1M$4.8MJared VeldheerOT30$10.16M$6.9MMike IupatiG30$9.7M$6.3MDeone BucannonLB25$8.7M$8.7MAntoine BetheaS33$4.9M$3.57MPhil DawsonK43$3.5M$3MJosh MauroDT27$3.3M$2.8MAdrian PetersonRB32$2.9M$2.9MRelated: Mathieu says Cardinals asked him to take a pay cutWilks' head coaching style can only be speculated upon at this point as he has not been the lead man on a staff since guiding Savannah State to a 5-6 record in 1999. Typically, a first-time head coach with a defensive background like Wilks would want a veteran quarterback, but the Cardinals seem just as likely to find a passer through the draft as free agency. The unknown surrounding the club's future as they look to keep up with the rest of the division could have anything in store.(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)
49ers, Sherman reach agreement on reported 3-year deal
The San Francisco 49ers and four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman have reached an agreement on a three-year contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Terms of the deal were not officially disclosed by the 49ers, but Sherman's contract is worth $39 million, with a $5 million signing bonus, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Sherman was released by the Seattle Seahawks Friday after spending the first seven years of his career with the organization. He took it in his stride, noting he had the lowest passer rating allowed since entering the league in 2011, while quoting Drake's "Diplomatic Immunity".
Fans try to lure Kirk Cousins with cookies
Kirk Cousins tweeted earlier this week that he's "open to suggestions" on where to play next season, and naturally, fans have been eager to prove to the soon-to-be free agent why he should sign with their team. After Cousins voiced his admiration for Cookie Monster while watching "Sesame Street" with his son Cooper Saturday, fans tried to lure him to their city with promises of good cookies.
Report: Seahawks to release DeShawn Shead with view to re-signing him
The Seattle Seahawks plan to release cornerback DeShawn Shead on Monday, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson.Shead spent the majority of the 2017 season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list while recovering from the effects of a torn ACL suffered during the 2016 campaign.Shead's agent, Cameron Foster, said he spoke to Seahawks general manager John Schneider ensuring his client would become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the league's new year."John Schneider called me saying they were going to release DeShawn on Monday because, per the league rule, it's the NFL's position that DeShawn's contract is to toll," Foster said. "But it's our position, the NFL Players' Association's position, and the Seattle Seahawks' position that it does not toll. John had already informed DeShawn that his contract was expiring after this year, and the Seattle Seahawks are just living up to their word."They called me and they said: 'Just giving you a heads up that we're going to release DeShawn on Monday, but that doesn't mean we don't want him. That means we are living up to our word and we're going to release him, otherwise his contract would be required to toll.' So, kudos to the Seahawks for doing the right thing. It's them living up to their word, letting DeShawn test the free-agent world, but they have said they'd like to have him come back."Shead recorded 81 tackles, 14 pass deflections, an interception, and a forced fumble in 15 games during the 2016 season.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Sherman discussing 3-year deal with 49ers
Free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman and the San Francisco 49ers are in talks on a potential three-year contract, he told Josina Anderson of ESPN.Sherman is reportedly scheduled to visit the Detroit Lions next week, but it remains to be seen if the 49ers will let him out of San Francisco without locking up his services. The four-time All-Pro was released by the Seattle Seahawks Friday following a seven-year tenure with the club. He's recovering from a torn Achilles that cut short his 2017 campaign after nine games. The Lions, Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Green Bay Packers have also expressed interest in Sherman, who turns 30 at the end of March.Sherman, who went to college in the northern California region at Stanford, previously indicated he's looking to sign with a contending team in a market he'll be comfortable in.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Talib rejuvenated ahead of fresh start with Rams
Aqib Talib couldn't be happier to become a member of the Los Angeles Rams.Talib will be traded from the Denver Broncos when the new league year begins Wednesday, bringing veteran experience to the NFC West upstart. Los Angeles also agreed to a deal where they will acquire fellow Pro Bowler Marcus Peters, instantly forming one of the league's most formidable cornerback tandems. With a solid core in place for the Rams, Talib is welcoming his move to the bright lights of Hollywood."What better place to do it than L.A., man," Talib said to NFL Network's James Palmer Saturday. "With that market. With (defensive coordinator) Wade Phillips. With a young energetic corner on the other side, man, to bring back that youth to me. A great quarterback and Todd Gurley, it's just a great situation in my opinion."Talib was named to his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl and helped the Denver Broncos capture Super Bowl 50 in 2015.Entering the next chapter of his life, Talib's veteran experience and physicality will be coveted by an up-and-coming Rams team that is looking to disrupt the rest of the NFC.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Giants asked Rodgers-Cromartie to take pay cut
The New York Giants asked cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to take a "significant" pay cut, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Rodgers-Cromartie is scheduled to earn $6.48 million in base salary for the 2018 season. Neither party has made a final decision, but Garafolo reports that the Giants and Rodgers-Cromartie aren't close to an agreement. The 31-year-old recorded 48 tackles and a pass deflection in 15 games during the 2017 season. He went through a turbulent year, however, and was suspended by the Giants in October for an unexcused absence from the team facility. It was reported that the Giants envision Rodgers-Cromartie as a safety under new head coach Pat Shurmur, who was hired in January to take over for Ben McAdoo, who was fired in December.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Study: 72 percent of Europeans think the Seattle Seagulls are an NFL team
Despite the NFL's increased presence around the world, there are still plenty of misconceptions about American football.A whopping 72 percent of Europeans failed to recognize that the Seattle Seagulls are not a real NFL team, according to a survey by Kroon Casino, which quizzed 1,000 Europeans and Americans to see how much they know about each others' versions of football.Half of the Europeans surveyed also thought that an NFL team roster has no more than 25 players.Meanwhile, 45 percent of Americans had no idea how long a soccer match lasts.Participants were also asked to compare their sports, and while the majority agreed that soccer requires more skill than American football, they had differing opinions on which is more exciting.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Browns' Landry: No regrets about time with Dolphins
Jarvis Landry is one of several new members of the Browns following Cleveland's dramatic flurry of trades, and although Landry's time with the Dolphins didn't exactly end cleanly, the pass-catcher is at peace with his time in Miami."The four years that I did have to have the opportunity to play for the Miami Dolphins, I left it all there," Landry told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I don't have any regrets about that."The Dolphins franchise-tagged Landry after a long standoff regarding a big-money extension, then opted to flip him for a 2018 fourth-round draft pick and 2019 seventh-rounder instead of opening their checkbook."As stressful as it may seem, I try to enjoy it and I'm happy. I'm happy," Landry said. "I can live with whatever has happened because I know that I gave it my all the whole time."Landry was the league leader in catches (112) last season and will provide either Tyrod Taylor or an incoming rookie quarterback with a security blanket over the middle of the field.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Poll: Can the Browns go from 0-16 to the playoffs in 2018?
"Playoffs? Don't talk about - playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game."Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Mora uttered this now famous quote during a postgame tirade in 2001, frustrated with a struggling Colts team on its way to a 6-10 record. Few coaches and players, however, can relate to what the Cleveland Browns have endured over the years.Cleveland hasn't made the playoffs since 2002. Weeks before the Browns put the finishing touches on their 0-16 2017 season, they hired general manager John Dorsey to right the ship following Sashi Brown's unsuccessful attempt to do so. On Friday, Dorsey made a statement, acquiring wide receiver Jarvis Landry, quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and cornerback Damarious Randall while parting ways with DeShone Kizer. The moves, well received by the general public, signal the Browns are, at the very least, going to look a lot different in 2018. Dorsey also managed to keep the team's first-round draft picks (first and fourth overall) as well as three second-round selections. With a top receiver to play alongside Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman, and David Njoku, a competent quarterback in Taylor, and another valuable defensive addition in Randall, the Browns are trending upward. Could these new faces, along with the No. 1 (running back Saquon Barkley?) and No. 4 selection in the draft, lead the Browns to the playoffs in 2018?It's your call.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Browns trade former 1st-round pick Danny Shelton to Patriots
The Cleveland Browns aren't done making moves as the team stayed busy on Saturday, trading 2015 first-round selection and defensive tackle Danny Shelton to the New England Patriots for a 2019 third-round draft pick, sources confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Along with Shelton, the Patriots will receive a 2018 fifth-round draft pick from the Browns.Shelton, 24, was drafted 12th overall by Cleveland. At the time of the selection, Shelton - who drew comparisons to former Patriots nose tackle Vince Wolfork - was the first defensive lineman out of Washington selected in the first round of the NFL draft since Steve Emtman in 1992.The hulking young tackle fills a huge need for the Patriots, who ranked 30th in the league in rush defense last season. In 14 games with the Browns in 2017, Shelton recorded 34 combined tacklesThis marks Cleveland's fourth trade in less than 24 hours. The team acquired Jarvis Landry, Tyrod Taylor, and Damarious Randall in separate deals on Friday.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Giants aware of suspicious Beckham video
The New York Giants said the team is aware of the video showing Odell Beckham Jr. holding what appears to be a brown cigarette while lying in bed next to a woman, but opted not to comment any further, according to Nicholas Parco and Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.Beckham can be heard saying to the woman, "trying to get you to sleep with someone..." It's unclear when the video was recorded and the star wideout appears to be unaware he's being filmed.Black Sports Online posted the video on YouTube:Beckham seemingly dismissed the story in a tweet Friday:
5 bold predictions for NFL free agency
With NFL free agency on the horizon, some of theScore's football editors make five bold predictions about what will transpire:Cousins signs fully guaranteed dealHaving grown fond of receiving every single dollar of his contract guaranteed while playing under the franchise tag the last two seasons, Cousins uses the likely historic fight over his services and his unprecedented leverage to command the NFL's very first fully guaranteed deal. Which team opens up its checkbook in such dramatic fashion remains to be seen - the final four is reportedly the Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and Arizona Cardinals - but Cousins helps lay down the gauntlet for player power by eschewing the sometimes misleading huge yearly salary. - Jack BrowneFalcons bring in 4 former Seahawks startersIf the Seahawks are undergoing a mass exodus, they know where to flock. Falcons head coach Dan Quinn is a Pete Carroll protege and gets a quartet of Seahawks - Richard Sherman, Jimmy Graham, Paul Richardson, and Byron Maxwell - to join his team for a run at the Super Bowl, despite limited cap space. Sherman and Maxwell prove perfect fits for the Falcons' defensive scheme while serving as veteran mentors to Keanu Neal and Robert Alford, in a group teeming with talent. Richardson and Graham just make an already stacked Falcons offense entirely unfair, and Atlanta officially becomes Seattle South in pursuit of a title. - Arun SrinivasanNo running back 28 or older signs before draftDarren Sproles, Frank Gore, LeGarrette Blount, Jonathan Stewart, DeMarco Murray, Doug Martin, and all the other free-agent running backs who have already surpassed their 28th birthday are in for a stressful few months. With a slew of talented rushing prospects in the draft and handful of good young runners in free agency, the elder statesmen of the NFL's running back fraternity must wait until May to know their next destination. Few teams have much of a need for running backs and invest their money elsewhere, with a chance of landing the next Alvin Kamara or Kareem Hunt with a mid-round pick. - Mitch SandersonVikings spend over $47M, most in free agencyWith the sting of missing out on playing in a home Super Bowl still fresh, the Vikings acknowledge their window to win will only stay open so long, loosen the purse strings, and spend the most in free agency. The front office uses up almost all of the $47 million in available cap space, clears more room by shedding some in-house talent, and spends that as well. Following the blueprint of the champion Eagles, the Vikings reload their barren quarterback depth chart, add depth on their offensive and defensive lines, and even sign another receiving weapon just for good measure. - Michael McClymontDez cut by Cowboys, becomes Jimmy G's top targetDespite both sides continuously denying a parting of ways, the Dallas Cowboys ultimately cut wide receiver Dez Bryant after June 1 to the dismay of Michael Irvin and free up a much-needed $16.5 million in cap space. Bryant then takes his talents to the west coast where he instantly becomes the No. 1 option in Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan's passing attack. Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin performed well at times in 2017 as free-agent signees last year, but Bryant is a significant upgrade at the position. The 49ers rank fifth in available cap space, easily allowing them to outbid other suitors. - Esten McLaren(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Sherman to meet with 49ers, will work toward contract
It might not take very long for Richard Sherman to find a new home.Less than 24 hours after being released by the Seattle Seahawks, the cornerback is slated to meet with the San Francisco 49ers, sources confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter. If Sherman, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals, is deemed healthy and the meeting goes well, a contract could get done quickly, Schefter notes.Related: 6 ideal landing spots for Richard Sherman Sherman told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he's also received preliminary interest from the Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Green Bay Packers.
Assessing the Bills' QB options following Tyrod Taylor trade
The Cleveland Browns might have made the most noise on a busy Friday evening, but the day was equally as important for the Buffalo Bills. With the Bills' reported trade of Tyrod Taylor to Cleveland, they will be left with Nathan Peterman atop their quarterback depth chart and a plethora of 2018 draft picks.
Breaking down what Friday's flurry of moves means for the Browns
The Cleveland Browns essentially lit a dynamite stick on Friday evening, sending the football world into a frenzy by making a series of trades that will impact their short- and long-term goals.Cleveland agreed to acquire Tyrod Taylor, Jarvis Landry, and Damarious Randall in separate deals, while moving numerous draft picks around in order to secure some coveted assets. The Browns are one of the offseason's most intruiging teams, armed with the No. 1 and No. 4 picks in the upcoming draft, along with an abundance of cap space. We break down what each of Friday's trades mean for the Browns entering free agency and the draft.Acquire Taylor from Bills in exchange for 3rd-round pick (2018)Taylor is a starting quarterback and in a vacuum, the Browns acquired some measure of stability at their most important position. This isn't what the trade was about, however, and the Browns won't feel compelled to select a quarterback with the first overall pick as common logic would dictate. If the Browns believe Taylor is their quarterback of the future, they've found a starter before free agency begins in earnest. If the Browns opt to select a quarterback with the first or fourth overall pick, they can allow the rookie to develop at their own pace while Taylor operates as a high-level stop-gap option. One thing is certain: The Browns aren't taking half-measures anymore at quarterback.Acquire Landry from Dolphins in exchange for 4th-round (2018), 7th-round picks (2019)Landry led the NFL with 112 receptions in 2017 and now joins a quietly formidable receiving group alongside Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon. Detractors will note that Landry averaged 8.8 yards per reception, a total that pales in comparison to the rest of the NFL's elite. Landry, however, is a perfect fit for Taylor, both of whom thrive in the short-to-intermediate passing range and could serve as a safety valve for a rookie in 2018.No one will mistake Landry for his best friend, Odell Beckham Jr., but getting a three-time Pro Bowler in his prime for a fraction of the expected cost is a major coup for general manager John Dorsey.Acquire Randall from Packers in exchange for DeShone Kizer, both teams to swap 4th-, 5th-round picksIt feels almost cruel to scrutinize Kizer after playing his rookie with little support, but this trade is a tacit admission that the Browns made a mistake selecting him in the second round in 2017. Kizer threw 11 TDs against 22 interceptions and often looked lost while the Browns slumped to a winless season. It's Dorsey's team now and it's clear that he wants to remake the roster in his vision, getting rid of the pieces from Sashi Brown's disastrous tenure.Randall is a talented yet erratic defensive back who racked up 47 tackles, nine pass deflections, and four interceptions in 14 games during the 2017 season. He was also benched for an internal matter in October and some noted an immaturity about Randall which seeped into his play. Randall, a former first-round pick gives the Browns another defensive back to mold, and it's possible that it could serve as a wake-up call ahead of the 2018 season.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sherman has plans for free agency: 'I want to go to a contender'
Richard Sherman's future is in his hands following his release from the Seattle Seahawks on Friday. With free agency scheduled to get underway on March 14, Sherman made it clear that he's still aiming for a Super Bowl."I want to go to a contender," Sherman said Friday on KIRO 97.3 FM, per ESPN's Brady Henderson. "I play at (a) high level. I've always been a guy that can work well with others and continue to elevate if my teammates elevate and elevate others. In Seattle, we had a lot of guys playing at a high level regardless. ... We had to fit in like puzzle pieces and play off each other. We all did that very well, and that's why we had the success we had."Would I go to a young secondary that is like we were when we were younger and help them grow and help them advance? Sure, if the number looks right and the situation is comfortable for me and my family."Sherman also made reference to Drake's "Diplomatic Immunity" on Friday, tweeting out an infographic that noted he ranked first in interceptions, passes defensed, and completion percentage allowed since 2011.The 29-year-old was one of the key components of the "Legion of Boom," helping Seattle lead the NFL in scoring defense from 2012-15. He was named to four consecutive Pro Bowls from 2013-16.While it will certainly be jarring to see Sherman in a jersey other than the Seahawks', he seems ready to move on to the next chapter of his career.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Packers trade former 1st-rounder Randall to Browns for Kizer
The Green Bay Packers are trading former first-round pick Damarious Randall to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for quarterback DeShone Kizer, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The teams will swap draft picks in the fourth and fifth rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.Kizer was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. During his rookie season, he completed 53.6 percent of his passes for 2,894 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions.Randall, selected with the 30th pick in the 2015 draft, recorded 47 tackles, nine pass deflections, and four interceptions in 14 games last season. The 25-year-old appears to be thrilled about his imminent move to the Browns:
Report: Bills trade Tyrod Taylor to Browns for 3rd-round pick
The Cleveland Browns are not done yet.The Buffalo Bills have reportedly traded quarterback Tyrod Taylor to the Browns for a third-round draft pick (No. 65 overall) in 2018, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Taylor's trade comes just hours after the Browns agreed to a trade bringing Jarvis Landry to Cleveland.ESPN's Mike Rodak reports the deal will become official on Wednesday March 14, at which point Buffalo will save $10.44 million against its cap and will not have to pay the quarterback's $6-million roster bonus.Taylor started 14 games for the Bills in 2017, completing 62.6 percent of his passes for 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions.Cleveland's acquisition of Taylor creates some intrigue at the top of the upcoming NFL Draft, with the Browns holding the first and fourth overall picks. The team could still target a quarterback, but could go in another direction if the top options aren't appealing. As for the Bills, the trade leaves Nathan Peterman as their only quarterback currently under contract. The team owns six draft picks in the first three rounds, thus are strong candidates to trade up for one of the top quarterback prospects.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Dolphins trade Landry to Browns for 2018, 2019 draft picks
Warning: Tweet contains coarse languageThe Miami Dolphins have reportedly traded wide receiver Jarvis Landry to the Cleveland Browns, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Miami will receive a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 seventh-round pick in return, according to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot.Long the subject of trade rumors, it took just one day for the Dolphins to move Landry after he signed his franchise tag with the team.Schefter also reported that the Browns are working on a new contract for their pass-catcher, with a deal expected to be agreed upon. The trade cannot be made official until March 14.The former second-round pick caught an NFL-high 112 passes in 2017 for a career-high nine touchdowns. However, he also averaged a career-low 8.8 yards per reception. The owner of 400 career receptions in just four seasons (an NFL record), Landry joins Josh Gordon and Corey Coleman atop Cleveland's receiving corps. He will provide a reliable pass-catching option to whoever winds up at quarterback for the Browns in 2018.Despite moving to a franchise that owns a 1-31 record over the last two seasons, Landry appeared excited to join his new team.
6 ideal landing spots for Richard Sherman
The Seattle Seahawks are looking toward the future - one which will not include at least two prominent figures who made up the Legion of Boom.Richard Sherman, 29, was released by Seattle on Friday, marking the end - though perhaps temporarily - to his seven-year tenure with the only professional team he's ever played for. While Sherman is fully expected to test the free-agent market, a return to Seattle is a possibility. The front office, which made the decision to cut the cornerback to free up cap space, informed him that it hopes he will circle back to the Seahawks if he can't secure a new deal elsewhere.Even with that in mind, it's more likely Sherman dons a new jersey in 2018. Despite his age (he turns 30 in a few weeks) and the fact he's coming off a season-ending Achilles injury, there will be suitors. Here are six ideal landing spots for the outspoken, and still valuable cornerback:New England PatriotsIt's all but impossible not to include the Patriots as a landing spot for Sherman. The local media is already expressing exuberant optimism that the shutdown corner will ship up to Boston and join Bill Belichick's squad. It's not difficult to imagine Sherman having an immediate impact in New England, a team that needs a replacement for Super Bowl XLIX hero and fellow corner Malcolm Butler.Atlanta FalconsThe Falcons are an intriguing and logical fit for Sherman, who would reunite with Dan Quinn and help a pass defense that ranked 19th in 2017. The Falcons head coach spent four years with Sherman in Seattle as an assistant and defensive line coach in 2009 and 2010, before rejoining the team as defensive coordinator in 2013 and winning Super Bowl XLVIII.Oakland RaidersSherman has a history with Michael Crabtree, who now plays in Oakland. You might then wonder why Sherman would want to sign there. Winning, baby. Both athletes would surely put the past behind them if it meant Sherman joining the Raiders in an effort to take them to the next level. Another factor? Sherman was born and raised in Compton, Calif., and spent five years at Stanford. He'd also reunite with close friend and former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch.Dallas CowboysThe Cowboys have little to no cap space, but that hasn't stopped Jerry Jones from spending big in the past. Another team coming off a poor season against the pass, Sherman would give Dallas a legit shutdown defender. He also has significant ties with newly appointed defensive backs coach Kris Richard, who was Seattle's cornerbacks coach in Sherman's rookie season, defensive backs coach from 2012 to 2014, and served as the Seahawks defensive coordinator up until this season.Los Angeles ChargersThe Chargers have a reasonable amount of cap space and could offer Sherman more than most teams. The California factor is also in play, and the front office might be inclined to present Sherman with a lot of money in an effort to round out an already talented cornerback group and help the Los Angeles defense take the next step. Continuing the trend of reuniting with former coaches, current defensive coordinator Gus Bradley spent two seasons in Seattle with Sherman in a similar role (2011-2012).San Francisco 49ersGoing back to Sherman's beef with Crabtree, he and the 49ers aren't really known for their comradery. In the team's favor, though, is an abundance of cap space and a terrific opportunity to match the Los Angeles Rams' recent flurry of moves at corner, which include additions Marcus Peters, Sam Shields, and Aqib Talib. The 49ers themselves are in desperate need of an upgrade at the position after coming off a poor season in which defensive backs allowed 27 touchdowns and managed only 10 interceptions.Sherman opting for San Francisco would be tough for the Seahawks and their fans, but what better way to get back at a team that released you than signing with its rivals?(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Dumervil's 2018 option declined by 49ers, set for free agency
The San Francisco 49ers announced they will not pick up the 2018 option on Elvis Dumervil's contract, making him a free agent."I want to thank Elvis for everything he contributed to our team last year both on the field and throughout our building," 49ers general manager John Lynch said in a statement. "Not only did he bring a great deal of veteran leadership to our locker room at a time of significant change, but he provided a spark to our defense."Lynch added the team would not close the door on a potential reunion in the future.Dumervil signed a two-year, $8-million contract with San Francisco in 2017 which included a team option after the first season. The veteran pass-rusher accumulated 13 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2017. He currently ranks fourth among active NFL players with 105.5 career sacks.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Report: Raiders expected to pursue Martin after meeting with Gruden
Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden recently had a face-to-face meeting with free-agent running back Doug Martin, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Gruden "came away impressed with (Martin) as a person," according to Rapoport, and Oakland is expected to make a strong push to secure the veteran in free agency.Marshawn Lynch has one year remaining on his contract, but the Raiders can cut him without incurring any dead money and would save nearly $6 million.Martin has been all or nothing during his six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had two seasons with over 1,400 yards rushing (2012, 2015), but failed to break 500 in his other four seasons.Martin missed 31 starts during those four seasons, due to either injury or suspension.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Without new deal, Brees can negotiate with other teams Monday
After some confusion over his ability to talk to teams not named the New Orleans Saints, quarterback Drew Brees will in fact be able to negotiate with other clubs Monday if he can't reach a deal with his current team beforehand.A report Thursday suggested Brees would not be allowed to talk to other teams when the negotiation period opens Monday, March 12. However, NFL and NFLPA officials confirmed to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that the report was inaccurate.Brees, head coach Sean Payton, and Saints officials have publicly expressed confidence in agreeing on a new deal for the 39-year-old quarterback, who's spent the last 12 years in New Orleans.Report: Saints GM doesn't anticipate any problems re-signing BreesIt remains highly likely that Brees will re-sign with the Saints after a season in which the team posted its best record since 2013, followed by a solid playoff run. The iconic moments from Richard Sherman's Seahawks career
The Seattle Seahawks parted ways with one of the biggest names in franchise history on Friday when they reportedly informed flamboyant corner Richard Sherman of his release. For an organization with just four Hall of Famers who played the major part of their careers with the team, Sherman may be its most recognizable player.During his seven-year run, he became one of the league's best shutdown corners and brashest personalities. Here are the five most iconic moments from the three-time first-team All-Pro's Seahawks career.'U mad, bro?'In the midst of his first All-Pro season, Sherman and the Seahawks met Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Week 6.Though it was just his second year in the league, Sherman engaged in some trash talk with Brady during the game.
