Report: Multiple teams ask Lamar Jackson to work out as WR
Multiple teams have asked Lamar Jackson to work out as a wide receiver at the NFL Scouting Combine, NFL Network's Peter Schrager reports, citing a source.A Heisman Trophy winner as a quarterback, some NFL scouts have identified the Louisville product as a wideout at the pro level.Jackson put up more than 9,000 yards as a passer in his three-year college career, and never recorded a catch. He called the idea of moving to receiver "annoying" in January.Jackson is expected to participate in the quarterback drills and has yet to determine whether he will work out as a receiver as well.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Broncos 'all-in' on pursuing Cousins
The New York Jets apparently aren't the only ones preparing to throw a blank check at Kirk Cousins. The impending free agent has become the "all-in" target for the Denver Broncos this offseason, sources told Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports. The Broncos could create between $40 million and $50 million in cap space to help make a run at the veteran quarterback, added Robinson.Cousins is set to hit the open market after the Washington Redskins reportedly agreed to trade for Alex Smith and opted against franchise tagging their starting quarterback for the third straight season.Denver had the 20th-ranked passing offense and the 27th-ranked scoring offense in 2017, and cycled through Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch under center in its attempts to jump-start the struggling unit.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Top 10 free-agent offensive linemen
NFL free agency begins March 14 - the first day of the new league year. Here is our list of the top 10 free-agent offensive linemen.
5 teams that should trade for Jarvis Landry
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry could be hitting the open market after his team reportedly gave him permission to seek a trade.Landry was given the franchise tag by Miami earlier in the offseason and all parties will need to agree to a potential trade. It's rare a three-time Pro Bowler is available in the middle of their prime and the 25-year-old should be a highly sought-after target. Here are five teams that should trade for Landry.Chicago BearsIf the Bears are serious about arming Mitchell Trubisky to succeed, they'll need genuine wide receivers - unless you're a Bears fan or degenerate fantasy football player, the current group is completely anonymous.Landry is a very good possession receiver and fits the safety valve prototype perfectly. He won't be able to spur an anemic offense by himself, but is a player the Bears should aggressively target in order to give Trubisky a chance at turning into the potential star they envisioned.Buffalo Bills The Bills unexpectedly snapped their playoff drought in 2017 and though they haven't resolved their quarterback situation, expectations have now risen. Buffalo's wide receiver corps could use a much-needed upgrade as it looks to make a further dent into the AFC's power structure next fall.Landry has an intimate knowledge of the AFC East after featuring for the Dolphins and could emerge as the Bills' No. 1 target in 2018. Paired with Kelvin Benjamin, he would give the Bills two formidable red-zone targets and make the team less reliant on a host of replacement-level players (thank you for your services, Andre Holmes!) It's time for Brandon Beane to get on the phone.Cleveland Browns No team is armed with nearly as much cap space as the Browns and if it's money and security Landry wants, this ought to be his ideal landing spot. Sure, the Browns don't have a quarterback at the moment, with due apologies to DeShone Kizer, but that could all change by the draft and, with Cleveland holding the No. 1 and 4 overall picks, it's not inconceivable to see the team with two electrifying playmakers in its backfield by the fall.Landry, Josh Gordon, and Corey Coleman would form a sneaky-good receiving trio, with the Browns also counting on the continued development of tight end David Njoku. It would be a new challenge for Landry, and one he ought to seriously entertain.New York Giants Simply, trading for Landry would be an excellent move to placate Odell Beckham. Beckham aggressively lobbied the Giants to acquire his best friend during the 2017 season and now has a chance to make his dream come true. It's unlikely the Giants will be able to afford both Beckham and Landry at full value, but playing in a massive media market among close company could be a package no other team can top. Landry, Beckham, Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram is a dangerous quartet that could carry the Giants from the NFC East basement.Baltimore Ravens It's a testament to the rest of the Ravens' roster that they almost snuck into the playoffs despite a dreadful receiving group. Enter Landry.Joe Flacco continues to throw short-to-intermediate passes with increased frequency, a notion that should play to Landry's strengths. With the Ravens, Landry would be the unquestioned top receiver and would be required to run every route while trying to carry the passing game. While it may be a stylistic fit, the Ravens may need to manoeuver the cap in order to acquire Landry. It's something for Ozzie Newsome to contemplate.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Top center Price tears pectoral at NFL combine
Ohio State's Billy Price, widely regarded as the top center in the upcoming draft, is believed to have torn a pectoral muscle Thursday while on the bench press at the NFL Scouting Combine, sources told Albert Breer of The MMQB.Price reportedly received the results of an MRI Friday morning, and it remains unclear as to whether surgery will be required, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The 2017 first-team All-American started 55 straight games for the Buckeyes and took home the Remington Trophy, given to the nation's top center, as a senior. He was projected to be a second-round pick by NFL.com heading into the combine.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Dolphins permit franchise-tagged Landry to seek trade
The Miami Dolphins have given wide receiver Jarvis Landry, whom they recently designated as their franchise player, permission to seek a trade, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Landry's relationship with the Dolphins has appeared rocky for the better part of a year. He was embroiled in trade rumors last offseason and, after playing out the final year of his contract, said in January the team was disrespecting him in contract negotiations. The 25-year-old also landed in his coach's doghouse at the end of the season, as Adam Gase called the behavior that got Landry ejected from the final contest "embarrassing."Related: Why tagging Jarvis Landry makes little sense for DolphinsLandry led the NFL in receptions last season with 112, but only tallied 987 yards. He averaged 8.8 yards per catch, the second-lowest figure among wide receivers, behind only Cole Beasley of the Dallas Cowboys.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Ex-NFL lineman Martin's high school files restraining order against him
Former NFL offensive lineman Jonathan Martin is facing a restraining order from his former high school, Harvard-Westlake School, after he posted violent images on Instagram on Feb. 23, ESPN's Kyle Bonagura reports.Harvard-Westlake, based in Los Angeles, closed for the day in response to Martin's Instagram post, but no one was harmed.Martin, who played in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and Carolina Panthers, posted a photo of a gun to Instagram with a caption reading "when you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge," tagging Richie Incognito and Mike Pouncey in the post. The lineman was taken into police custody and later released.Incognito and Pouncey were found guilty of bullying Martin during their shared tenure with the Dolphins after the league conducted an investigation into Martin's complaint.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Seahawks' Carroll supports Wilson's Yankees camp stint: 'It's awesome'
While Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is supportive of Russell Wilson participating in spring training with the New York Yankees, he seemed to deflect questions Thursday about whether he supports the star quarterback appearing in an exhibition game."I think it's awesome," Carroll told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine of Wilson's participation in Yankees camp, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson."Some guys are maybe traveling all over the world. He's playing ball. He's playing baseball. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, at all. The focus that it takes to play at this level - whether it's baseball, basketball, or football - to compete at that level, the mentality that you have to be at, I think it's only enriching. So I have no problem with that."However, when asked about Wilson appearing in a game - something Yankees GM Brian Cashman brought up Tuesday - Carroll instead provided a scouting report for the four-time Pro Bowler."He's not doing a great job of going with pitches away from him," Carroll said. "We are hoping he will start putting the ball into right field a little bit more, you know. We want him to go with the pitch. Aside from that, the curveball is still giving him a problem, like it always did you know, back in the day. So we will see what happens.""I respect the hell out of Pete Carroll," Cashman told Mike Mazzeo of the New York Daily News when discussing the possibility of hearing from the Seahawks head coach regarding Wilson appearing in a spring game, "so I'd look forward to hearing from him."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Seahawks shopping Michael Bennett
The Seattle Seahawks are entertaining trade offers for defensive lineman Michael Bennett, a source told ESPN's Brady Henderson.Bennett was named to the Pro Bowl for the third consecutive season."I haven't talked to Mike in a while now but it's the time of year, conversations going in all directions," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Thursday.Bennett told reporters following Seattle's final regular-season game that "I probably won't be back next year" after the club missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011.The 32-year-old has been a vital component of the team's defense since joining in 2013 to start his second stint with the Seahawks. Bennett recorded 40 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 16 games during the 2017 season.Bennett is owed $1.6 million in base salary and holds a $7.3-million cap hit for the 2018 season, with a potential out in his contract in 2019, although he's currently scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2021.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Anthony Lynn: Chargers open to drafting QB in 1st round
The Los Angeles Chargers are open to drafting a quarterback in the first round this year in preparation for life after franchise stalwart Philip Rivers."Everybody's in play for us," head coach Anthony Lynn told reporters Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "We're trying to get better - not just quarterback, every position."It's been 14 years since the Chargers last selected a quarterback in the opening round, and that investment blessed them with Rivers, one of the top signal-callers of his era. After a shaky 2016 season, the 36-year-old returned to Pro Bowl form in 2017. Still, he's at the stage of his career at which quarterbacks typically begin to decline."I plan on being here for the long haul," Lynn added. "If I can get my future quarterback right now, why wouldn't I? I'm just looking at the big picture here. We're trying to get better at every spot, and you never know what position is going to step up and help you win."Rivers has two seasons remaining on his contract. Jaguars not ruling out drafting a quarterback after signing Bortles
Just because Blake Bortles signed a new contract doesn't mean he's locked in as the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback of the future. With Bortles averaging $18 million per year through 2020, head coach Doug Marrone expects to see more out of his quarterback, who gains more continuity with each season. However, when Marrone was questioned at the combine Thursday regarding adding another quarterback, he was not shy to suggest one could be arriving via the draft."When you look to the draft, it is not like I know there is a lot of talk about 'this team' and 'they are ready and they only need one or two or three pieces,' whatever it may be, but that is not the way I am approaching this," said Marrone, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "I am approaching this as we have to better our football team ..."I think the draft process or free agency gives you the ability to go ahead and better your football team no matter what position it is. Vikings' Zimmer: 'I'll probably get fired' if we don't pick the right QB
Mike Zimmer has always been a defense-oriented coach, but he's well aware it will be the offensive side of the ball that determines his future with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings could be sending a trio of quarterbacks to the free-agent market in Sam Bradford, Teddy Bridgewater, and Case Keenum - an unprecedented amount for a team coming off a playoff run. Zimmer hasn't ruled out bringing any of the three back, though each passer has their own faults, as the Vikings weigh their options."It's important for myself and Rick (Spielman) and the organization we pick the right guy that can help us continue to move forward," Zimmer said Thursday, according to NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "If we don't do that, then I'll probably get fired."With a defense-first strategy, Zimmer has posted winning records in three of four seasons, including a trip to the NFC Championship in 2017. Zimmer hinted that he doesn't want to jeopardize losing pieces of the defense in order to sign a quarterback (like Kirk Cousins perhaps) to a big-money contract."We've won 40 games in the last four years because we've had a good football team, and I want to make sure with our team that we continue to build and improve, continually improve on defense," said Zimmer. "They told me today ... we're 30-4 when we score 21 points, so it's important that we don't lose the defensive part of the game because we keep the game close. So all these things become a factor."So after we get here, after we get done looking at some of these young draftable guys, so we'll kind of sit down and figure out the direction we're going. But I feel very confident really in all three guys."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

"Why wouldn't I (listen to offers)?"The Browns have a plethora of options if they want to take a quarterback with the top pick, but they could be convinced to settle for one at No. 4 or later. However, Dorsey confirmed no decisions have been made yet."There's a lot of things I can do with No. 1, and not just get a quarterback as well," Dorsey said. "My door is wide open. Top 7 free-agent tight ends
NFL free agency begins March 14 - the first day of the new league year. Here is our list of the top 10 free-agent tight ends.
Eagles downplay potential QB controversy between Wentz, Foles
Nick Foles may be the reigning Super Bowl MVP, but it appears certain that he'll be relegated to the sidelines.Foles led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 41-33 upset victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, finding Zach Ertz for the go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The veteran quarterback filled in admirably for Carson Wentz, who was in the midst of an MVP-caliber season before tearing his ACL in December. Although Foles wildly surpassed expectations, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson made it clear that he'll be the backup once Wentz is healthy."What I love about Nick Foles is, he knows this is Carson’s team. There’s no ego there. He knows when Carson’s ready to go, he’ll be out there. That goes to the unselfishness of this team I talk about," Pederson said of Foles on SiriusXM NFL Radio.Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman raved about his team's depth at quarterback, issuing praise to Wentz, Foles, and Nate Sudfeld."We have a franchise quarterback. We have a Super Bowl MVP, and we have a young quarterback that we’re excited about as well. That’s kind of how we’re looking at it as we get started in the offseason. We’ve got a lot of areas that we have to address. We’re getting started a little bit behind all these other teams, and we know in this league if we don’t get to work and get serious about this, we’re going to get our butt kicked," Roseman said. The Eagles' quarterback depth is enviable and is a key reason why the rest of the league is looking to catch up to them. For the time being, however, Foles serves as an excellent potential trade asset prior to the 2018 season.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Steelers GM optimistic about finding 'common ground' with Bell on new deal
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert remains confident his club will be able to reach a long-term contract for star running back Le'Veon Bell. The Steelers used the franchise tag on Bell last spring, who subsequently played the 2017 season with a $12.1 million cap hit."I don't like to get into too much detail," Colbert told reporters Wednesday. "I can say this, though: I'm optimistic that we can find common ground. Those things are never final until they're final."Colbert appeared reticent to use the tag on Bell for a second consecutive year, but didn't rule it out as an option. If both parties can't agree upon a contract by March 6, Bell is scheduled to become a free agent on March 14."We'll never say the tag is not available because it's a collectively bargained item that, if need be, will be put into use."Bell is establishing himself as arguably the NFL's best running back, earning his second first-team All-Pro selection in 2017. Giants GM hints at potentially trading down during draft
New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman provided a window into his team's philosophy ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft on Wednesday. The Giants hold the No. 2 overall pick after a dismal 3-13 season and Gettleman was hired in December to help steer the organization back in the right direction. Many have speculated that the Giants will select a quarterback, either with the No. 2 pick, or by trading down in the first round.Gettleman hinted that the Giants would be willing to make a trade during the draft, depending on which players are available."Are we open for business? You know, whatever. Any decision I make is going to be in the best interest of the New York Football Giants. Plain and simple," Gettleman said via ESPN's Jordan Raanan. "So if someone makes me an offer I can't refuse, would I move back? Depends on who is there."Again, if there is a guy worthy of being the second pick of the draft and what we're basically saying and answering that question to the affirmative, you're drafting what you think is going to be a Hall of Fame player. So you can't get too cute about that thing."Eli Manning is the team's incumbent starting quarterback, and though it's been proposed the Giants' eventual 2018 first-round pick will replace him immediately, head coach Pat Shurmur said Manning has several years left under center.Gettleman has a compelling decision ahead, with his regime inextricably tied to the player they'll eventually end up selecting. For the time being, the Giants are exercising their due diligence in landing a Hall of Fame-caliber player. Redskins don't plan to franchise tag Cousins for 3rd consecutive year
To little surprise, the Washington Redskins aren't planning on using the franchise tag on quarterback Kirk Cousins for a third consecutive year. The Redskins agreed to acquire Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2018 third-round pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller on Jan. 30, a move that can only become official on March 14 - the first day of the league's new year.Cousins became the first quarterback in NFL history to receive the franchise tag in consecutive seasons in February 2017, and the Redskins would have potentially been forced to pay him a gargantuan sum had he elected to stay with the team.Redskins senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams appeared to confirm the team's decision to allow Cousins to test free agency."I don't think so," Williams said to ESPN's John Keim. "But it's not too late. But we haven't really talked about that. The media had come up with those scenarios more than what we've talked about it because I can't remember one meeting where we talked about the possibility of tagging him."Williams and the Redskins appeared to have reached closure with Cousins, defending their decision to aggressively pursue Smith."Kirk has been here for six years and I'm sure there have been opportunities that deals could have been worked out," Williams said. "It hasn't worked out. As a team, you've got to always put yourself in position ... in case what might not happen. We can't afford to let it come to the 12th hour and Kirk decide not to come back and leave us with the bag. We got to make decisions that are best for the organization and whatever decision we make or made, that's what we've got to live with."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Chiefs' Andy Reid endorses Jackson as QB prospect: 'He's pretty good'
Andy Reid knows a thing or two about quarterbacks and the Kansas City Chiefs coach said Wednesday he wouldn't ask Louisville's Lamar Jackson to change positions in the NFL."Yeah, I think you probably want to try it there (at quarterback) and see," Reid told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine, via Dan Parr of NFL.com. "He's pretty good."Despite the many accolades Jackson accumulated in college, including a Heisman Trophy, not everyone is on board with him as a quarterback prospect. Former NFL general manager and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian said recently Jackson should transition to wide receiver, where he can take advantage of his speed. Polian also opined the 6-foot-3 Jackson isn't big enough to play quarterback, or accurate enough as a thrower."Yeah, I'm not much on that," Reid said of the Polian critique. "I want to bring him in. Let's exhaust that other thing that we know he's good at and see. I'm just saying in general. This is a general statement: Let's get him in and let him wing it a little bit and see how he does. We'll be able to fit some things in there I'm sure."Even with the endorsement, Kansas City isn't a likely landing spot for Jackson. The Chiefs traded up in the first round last year to select Patrick Mahomes, who's set to inherit starting duties in 2018.Jackson and the rest of the quarterback prospects are slated to go through drills Saturday.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said the team has remained in communication with Reuben Foster, after the linebacker was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence on Feb. 11.Foster was also accused of making threats, as well as suspicion of possessing an assault rifle.Lynch said he's spoken with Foster since his arrest, but remained tight-lipped as it's an ongoing legal matter."We have talked with Reuben,” Lynch said, via the team's official website. "The context, in a broad sense, is our expectations for him and our expectations for all of our players. We have a high standard that we expect. I think we made that very clear with him. We remain in communication but a lot of that is going to remain private because of the ongoing legal matters and protocols that are in place."Foster's girlfriend told police the linebacker physically dragged her during an argument. She also revealed that Foster owned numerous semiautomatic weapons. The 23-year-old was also arrested in January for possession of marijuana and was released after posting $2,500 bond.Foster, the 31st overall pick in the 2017 draft, recorded 72 tackles in 10 games during his rookie season. It's possible he'll be suspended by the NFL for a violation of the personal conduct policy.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Cowboys will not give Elliott extra off-field guidelines
Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott will face the same off-field rules and regulations as the rest of his teammates after a turbulent 2017 season.Elliott served a six-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy and was a lightning rod for controversy throughout the offseason last year.Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones is unconcerned about Elliott's behavior, however."You can only do so much," Jones said to ESPN's Todd Archer. "These are grown men. I have a lot of confidence that Zeke has learned a lot. Hopefully he has. Because if he has and he changes his behavior and he's able to stay on the field, we all know he can be one of the greatest to ever play the game, if he takes care of himself and takes care of his business off the field. I think Zeke wants that. He's a competitor. I think he wants to be one of the best. He certainly knows that he's got to take care of business, too.Jones noted that other Cowboys greats have also overcome off-field indiscretions earlier in their careers."We've had great players that have had to do better before. Michael (Irvin) will tell you that he had to learn valuable lessons, but he turned out to be a Hall of Famer. I think if Zeke will pay attention and do the right things off the field and be responsible then he can certainly have an amazing career."Despite the suspension, Elliott submitted a strong sophomore campaign, rushing for 983 yards and seven touchdowns, adding 26 receptions for 269 yards and two more scores.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Beane: Bills happy with Taylor, Peterman 'until we decide different'
Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane offered some vague support for the quarterbacks on his roster while speaking Wednesday at the 2018 combine."We're seeing what's out there. This year it's been well publicized there's more veteran quarterbacks that are out there," Beane said, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "And we have to do our recon on those. If we see something that seems like it's a good fit for us and upgrades us, then we would look to do that. But, again, we're happy with where we're at with Tyrod (Taylor) and Nathan (Peterman), until we decide different really."Beane offered a series of lukewarm compliments toward Taylor, who helped the Bills end a 17-year playoff drought in 2017, before losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card round."Tyrod is on our roster right now and that's the plan," Beane said. "We're just taking it day by day, and like every position, we're trying to get better everywhere. So we're looking at every position, including quarterback. But Tyrod did a lot of good things for us. ... I see him on our roster right now. Unless something changes, he'll be here through that part."Taylor's been the Bills' starter for the past three seasons. He was named a Pro Bowler in 2015, after spending his first three years in the league as a backup with the Baltimore Ravens. He started 14 games in 2017 but played in 15, completing 62.6 percent of 420 pass attempts for 2,799 yards with 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Peterman would throw five interceptions on just 14 total attempts. He debuted in place of an ineffective Taylor the previous week and completed 7 of 10 attempts for 79 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints. He'd also get the call to start in Week 14 against the Indianapolis Colts, while Taylor was sidelined by a knee injury. Peterman fared a bit better in his second start, completing 5 of 10 attempts with a touchdown in heavy snow, but was replaced by Joe Webb in the third quarter after suffering a head injury.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc.
