Multiple Pittsburgh Steelers players voiced their frustration after their Thanksgiving Day game against the Baltimore Ravens was postponed due to Baltimore's COVID-19 outbreak.Tight end Eric Ebron wasn't pleased with the league's decision.
Thanksgiving Day best bets: Lions trending over at home
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Week 11 of the NFL season starts Thursday with a three-game Thanksgiving Day slate. Whether you're fixated on the television already or just need some action to avoid talking to family members, here are the best bets to consider.Houston Texans @ Detroit Lions (+2.5, 51.5), 12:30 p.m. ETThere's no better Thanksgiving tradition than flipping the coffee pot on, basting the turkey, and locking in the early-morning over. Joking aside, there should be plenty of points when the Texans travel on a short week to take on the Lions. After all, Detroit's flown over the total in 10 of the last 11 at home.Houston's finally hitting its stride offensively as the schedule lightens up. Take out the Week 10 weather game at Cleveland and the Texans have averaged 28 points per game in their last five. The team should continue having success against a Lions side that's No. 25 in the NFL in DVOA defense. If Houston gets going early, the over's in good shape: Detroit runs its offense at the second-fastest tempo when trailing by seven or more points this season. The Texans have gone over the total in four of the last five as a road favorite, while the Lions have cashed seven of the last eight as a home 'dog.Let's start the holiday off with a barn burner. And if it's 10-3 at the end of the third quarter, you're allowed to kick your family out. Those are the rules.Pick: Over 51.5Washington Football Team @ Dallas Cowboys (-3, 47), 4:30 p.m.If you want to sneak in a nap on Thursday, this might be your best window. Alex Smith vs. Andy Dalton would have been an unbelievable matchup back in, say, 2013; now, the two are just trying to keep their respective clubs out of the NFC East basement. The Washington Football Team controlled the clock and scored a 25-3 win over the Cowboys last month, with the offense posting a season-best 5.3 yards per rush while possessing the ball for nearly 37 minutes.Could Dallas give Washington a taste of its own medicine in Round 2? The Cowboys finally got going on the ground in last week's upset win over the Vikings, logging 5.8 yards per carry.Neither signal-caller should intimidate the opposing defense. Expect both teams to play ball control and keep the clock moving, ultimately resulting in an easy under.Pick: Under 47(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Jaguars turn to Glennon vs. Browns after Luton's 4-INT performance
The Jacksonville Jaguars plan to start Mike Glennon over Jake Luton for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, head coach Doug Marrone announced Wednesday, per ESPN's Michael DiRocco.Luton started the last three games - all losses - in place of the injured Gardner Minshew. The rookie passer had his worst game so far in last Sunday's 27-3 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing four interceptions and zero touchdowns.Minshew is apparently nearing his return from a thumb injury. He could be active against the Browns but only in a backup role, as Marrone said he isn't comfortable with reinserting his starter without a full week of practice, per Brent Martineau of CBS47.Glennon hasn't played this season and last started for the Chicago Bears in 2017.The 30-year-old veteran has thrown for 5,163 yards and 36 touchdowns against 20 interceptions across 29 combined appearances (22 starts) for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bears, Arizona Cardinals, and then-Oakland Raiders.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Bengals plan to start Allen over Finley vs. Giants
The Cincinnati Bengals are planning to start Brandon Allen instead of Ryan Finley Sunday versus the New York Giants, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Week 12 will mark Cincinnati's first game of the year without Joe Burrow under center. The first overall pick tore his ACL and MCL during last week's loss to the Washington Football Team.Finley relieved Burrow following the injury but failed to lead a scoring drive, completing 3 of 10 passes for 30 yards and an interception. He also took four sacks against a tough Washington front.Allen was on the practice squad and was added to the active roster on Monday. He has experience under Bengals head coach Zac Taylor as the two were on the Los Angeles Rams in 2018, when Taylor was the team's quarterback's coach. The former sixth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars made his first three career starts in 2019 for the Denver Broncos in Drew Lock's absence. He completed just 46% of his passes, tossing three touchdowns and two interceptions.Burrow will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign but Cincinnati expects him to be healthy for next year.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL playoffs odds: Best bets to make, miss postseason before final stretch
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. With only six weeks left in the NFL season, the playoff picture is starting to come into focus. For some teams, though, it's never been more uncertain.Eight clubs are +260 or shorter to either make or miss the playoffs, which leads to plenty of value if you can sort out the final few seeds in each conference. Here are every available team's odds of reaching the postseason (some are off the board), with our favorite bets.TEAMMAKEMISSAtlanta Falcons+2000-20000Arizona Cardinals-205+166Baltimore Ravens-340+260Buffalo Bills-1000+630Carolina Panthers+2000-4000Chicago Bears+205-270Cleveland Browns-245+196Dallas Cowboys+230-300Detroit Lions+1120-1800Green Bay Packers-2500+1400Houston Texans+2000-7000Indianapolis Colts-440+320Las Vegas Raiders-166+136Los Angeles Rams-2500+1400Miami Dolphins+110-136Minnesota Vikings+470-700New England Patriots+1080-1800New Orleans Saints-7000+2000New York Giants+390-550Philadelphia Eagles+156-190San Francisco 49ers+890-1450Seattle Seahawks-4000+1900Tampa Bay Buccaneers-650+450Tennessee Titans-500+360Washington Football Team+490-750Arizona Cardinals to make the playoffs (-205)There are seven playoff spots in the NFC and only six good teams, with a seat reserved for whichever club crawls out of the NFC East. The Cardinals are easily one of those six teams, and they're just a game back of the NFC West leader, too.Arizona will still benefit from two games against NFC East teams, and the Cardinals will get two chances to upend the West-leading Rams. Even if the Cards lose both contests against Los Angeles, it would take an inspired effort from the Bears or 49ers - two teams trending in the wrong direction - to derail this bet.Chicago Bears to miss the playoffs (-270)The Bears look like a shell of their former selves after four straight losses, a stretch in which starter Nick Foles has thrown as many touchdowns as interceptions (four apiece). Those defeats have pushed Chicago into the conference's eighth spot with two games still left against the NFC North-leading Packers. To make matters worse, Foles and former starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky are both battling injuries that could keep them out this week or longer, potentially forcing the Bears to rely on a third-string passer to keep their hopes alive. That sounds like a perfect fade opportunity.Miami Dolphins to make the playoffs (+110)Sunday's loss to the Broncos may have left a bitter taste in your mouth, but the Dolphins are still a good team with a clear postseason path. Miami's schedule is the fifth-easiest over the final five weeks, according to Football Outsiders, and in Week 16 the Dolphins can earn a tiebreaker over the Raiders, who are currently tied with them for the AFC's final playoff spot.Even if you're dubious of this squad's offense, its defense is still legit and can shut down teams like the Jets, Bengals, and Patriots over the final few weeks. Miami can still win its division, too, and is a coin flip to make the playoffs. I'm buying the plus side of that coin all day long.Philadelphia Eagles to miss the playoffs (-190)Oddsmakers are finally realizing the Eagles aren't, in fact, a good football team, and they shouldn't be the overwhelming favorite to win the NFC East, as was the case just a few weeks ago. The Eagles should also be priced even shorter than this to miss the playoffs given what lies ahead.Philadelphia will at least briefly lose the division lead after Thursday's results, and it faces four teams with winning records over the next four weeks before playing the Cowboys and Washington to end the year. Does that sound like a division winner to you?Washington Football Team to make the playoffs (+490)Somebody has to win the NFC East, and I continue to be bullish on Washington. This team is easily the division's best by advanced metrics, and it faces the second-easiest remaining schedule behind the Cowboys, who are still too vulnerable defensively for my taste.Washington will get a chance to sweep the season series against Dallas on Thursday and grab a temporary lead atop the NFC East, with a game upcoming against the Eagles to potentially clinch the division in Week 17. At these odds, you can't go wrong taking a shot on the division's most complete team.(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Cowboys assistant Markus Paul hospitalized after medical emergency
The Dallas Cowboys announced strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul was hospitalized Tuesday morning after experiencing a medical emergency, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo."Markus is in the process of undergoing further medical tests and additional information will be made available at the appropriate time," the Cowboys said in a statement."The organization extends its prayers and support to the Paul family, and asks for friends and followers of Markus, his family and the team to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.Dallas canceled Tuesday's practice earlier in the day but didn't provide details beyond saying the then-unnamed staffer's health issue wasn't related to COVID-19.Paul joined Dallas as an assistant in 2018 and was named the strength and conditioning coordinator by first-year head coach Mike McCarthy during the offseason. Green Bay Packers (vs. Chicago Bears)It's hard to imagine quarterback play getting any worse for the Bears, but a Tyler Bray start would take this offense's remarkable incompetency to unimaginable levels. Bray was frustrating in college with Tennessee; put him in Chicago's tepid offense, and there isn't a single redeeming quality. The Packers turned the ball over five times in Indianapolis - once on downs - and still pushed a very good Colts team to the brink. The only way to really beat Green Bay is to run the ball and sustain long drives - the Bears can't do either. A little extra motivation stemming from a Week 11 loss won't hurt the Packers, either, as Aaron Rodgers and Co. are set to beat up on their NFC North rivals.2. Buffalo Bills (vs. Los Angeles Chargers)Justin Herbert is terrific, so Chargers fans have plenty of reason for optimism going forward. However, none of that will come to fruition until Anthony Lynn is gone. Lynn made a strong case for being the NFL's worst coach while up against his fiercest competitor, Adam Gase, in Week 11, but Herbert's masterclass helped him avoid disaster. But the step-up in class here against a Bills team among the best-coached units in football and coming off a bye is simply too big a hurdle for the inept Lynn to clear. We also have this nugget from our Bad Line of the Week article: Teams playing the Chargers off their bye week have been 10-0 ATS coming into this year. The Jets made it 11-0 this past Sunday, covering as 10-point underdogs.3. New York Giants (@ Cincinnati Bengals)This is actually one of my favorite picks this week, and with six weeks still to go in the season, it's acceptable to save one of the above teams for later in favor of a Giants pick in Week 12. Ryan Finley starts for the Bengals following Joe Burrow's gruesome knee injury and has a miserable first test against the Giants' severely underrated defense.Burrow didn't get nearly enough credit for his ability to evade pressure behind a horrendous offensive line. He wasn't sacked once against Washington on 34 dropbacks, while Finley was sacked four times on 14. In three starts last season, he completed only 47% of his passes, averaged just 158 passing yards, had five turnovers to just two touchdowns, and most importantly, was 0-3. Believe it or not, you should be quite confident in the very competitive and fundamentally sound Giants this week.4. Miami Dolphins (@ New York Jets)The Dolphins certainly fall into the category of well-coached teams as well. Brian Flores' decision to turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter against the Broncos speaks to that. He doesn't care about what people will say, he simply cares about winning. A trip to Denver was a trap for this team, but you can rest assured that Flores will have Miami well-prepared for this game. It certainly helps to have Gase on the other sideline, too.5. Los Angeles Rams (vs. San Francisco 49ers)This is the point in the list when doubt begins to creep in. As well as the Rams have been playing, the 49ers are getting healthy coming off their bye, and Kyle Shanahan is something of a wizard when he has a full complement of weapons at his disposal. This is a must-win for San Francisco to remain in the playoff hunt, and with two weeks to prepare for a Rams team coming off a short week, there's plenty of upset potential this weekend in LA.6. New Orleans Saints (@ Denver Broncos)The Taysom Hill hate has become a bit much. He persevered through countless season-ending injuries in college to finally make his first start - and a winning one at that - this past weekend. It's at the very least a nice story. But he's still a one-trick pony. All he knows is the run-pass option, and if his first read isn't there, he's scrambling. Trusting him in his first road start and in the elements isn't exactly wise, even against the Broncos' below-average defense. I'm staying away here.7. Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. Baltimore Ravens)To be clear, the Steelers didn't beat the Ravens in their first meeting. Baltimore beat Baltimore. I had this circled as a spot to buy in on John Harbaugh's team in a revenge game, but there's no chance of that happening anymore. The Ravens continue to struggle on both sides of the ball, and now COVID-19 has left them shorthanded in the backfield. This is a terrible time to be visiting Pittsburgh.8. Cleveland Browns (@ Jacksonville Jaguars)The Browns are playing their best defensive football of the season, and the timing is perfect given Baker Mayfield's struggles. The weather has played a big part, but Mayfield is completing just over half of his passes across the last three weeks, averaging only 153 yards through the air and last throwing a touchdown pass on Oct. 25. With the Titans on deck next week, this is a bit of a trap game for Cleveland against the Jaguars, who've been competitive in spurts with Jake Luton under center.9. Seattle Seahawks (@ Philadelphia Eagles)The Eagles have looked pathetic in recent weeks, but we've seen this before, only for them to stun a formidable foe during prime time. Remember the Rams game in 2018? At the very least, the Eagles have the weapons to get right, in a sense, against the Seahawks' hapless defense. Exercise caution here.10. Minnesota Vikings (vs. Carolina Panthers)If there's one thing I've learned in my 25-plus years of Vikings fandom, it's that they will win this weekend. After essentially squandering their playoff chances against the Cowboys, this is where they begin the push to 9-7, missing the postseason and securing a draft pick in the mid-to-high teens. The Panthers are an excellently coached team, but this is a good sell-high spot coming off a win over the Lions, who have no fight left under Matt Patricia.Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. Report: Browns' Ward to miss multiple weeks with calf strain
Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward is expected to miss a few weeks after suffering a calf strain in Sunday's win over the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.Ward appeared to confirm his injury on Instagram:
Brady disappointed in play: 'I have to do a better job, absolutely'
Tom Brady's play has come into question after another ugly prime-time performance, the latest a two-interception outing in a 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback went 26 of 48 for 216 yards and completed just one pass of more than 15 yards. He had the chance to play the hero late in the contest, but Rams safety Jordan Fuller intercepted Brady to seal the game after the quarterback badly overthrew tight end Cameron Brate.Brady was asked postgame whether he was disappointed he wasn't able to lead a late-game comeback."I think that's a good word, disappointed. I have to do a better job, absolutely," Brady said.He was even more critical of his last throw of the night."Just a bad read," Brady said. "Cam was running up the seam and at the last second, I saw the safety coming over and just popped it over Cam's head. Just a bad read, bad throw, decision, everything. Can't happen."Brady's performance Monday follows a three-interception outing against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football in Week 9.Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians couldn't explain why the team's offense has struggled against top competition this season."Still trying to figure that out," Arians said. "At times we look really, really good, and then there are times when we obviously don't. I felt very, very comfortable in the two-minute drive until that throw."Brady has thrown 25 touchdown passes and nine interceptions on the season, including five of each over the last three games. Roethlisberger downplays talk of perfect season: 'We're chasing Lombardis'
The Pittsburgh Steelers have rolled to a 10-0 start, bringing with it the talk of a perfect season. The Steelers have six games left to achieve the milestone, but quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said the team is focused on much bigger things than a spotless regular season."We're not chasing perfection in terms of a perfect 16-0. We're chasing Lombardis. That's the most important thing for us," Roethlisberger said, per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.Roethlisberger already has two Super Bowl rings in his collection, but they came in 2005 and 2008. Now in his 17th season, this could be the 38-year-old's best chance at adding another championship trophy. To do so, Big Ben believes the Steelers' offense needs to play at a higher level, though it's fourth in the league in scoring while averaging 29.8 points per game."We got to put more points on the board," Roethlisberger said. "I know what the scoreboard says, but there were too many times we punted and didn't do enough. Offensively, we're happy we got the win, but we know we have to be better."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Bears place Eddie Jackson on COVID-19 list
The Chicago Bears placed star safety Eddie Jackson on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced Monday. The team moved Jackson to the reserve group after deeming him a close contact to someone outside of the team facility, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson. He didn't practice Monday. The 26-year-old has started 56 games for Chicago since being selected in the fourth round in 2017. He's been chosen for the Pro Bowl twice and has earned one All-Pro berth in 2018.Jackson has racked up 58 tackles, two pass breakups, and a team-high three forced fumbles through 10 games this year. The Alabama product is the eighth Bears player placed on the COVID-19 list since the start of the season.Players deemed close contacts must be sidelined for five days following their last contact with an infected person.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL bad line of the week: Bills, Chargers trending in opposite directions
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Identifying a bad line in the NFL market is tough in general, let alone doing so 11 weeks into the season. There's more of a sample size for the public to gauge, making it harder to find edges. However, numbers can still be mispriced if we dig deep enough. Here's the board for Week 12 as well as the one line that has us scratching our heads.Matchup SpreadTexans @ LionsHOU -2.5WFT @ CowboysDAL -2.5Ravens @ SteelersPIT -3.5Browns @ JaguarsCLE -6.5Cardinals @ PatriotsARI -2.5Panthers @ VikingsMIN -4.5Raiders @ FalconsOAK -3Dolphins @ JetsMIA -7Giants @ BengalsNYG -5.5Chargers @ BillsBUF -5.5Titans @ ColtsIND -449ers @ RamsLAR -7Saints @ BroncosNO -5.5Chiefs @ BuccaneersKC -3Bears @ PackersGB -7Seahawks @ EaglesSEA -5Bad line of the week: Chargers (+5.5 vs. Bills)The Chargers were one of the early cash cows of the 2020 NFL campaign. Despite losing quarterback Tyrod Taylor to injury and piling up their annual string of one-score losses through a 2-4 start, Los Angeles started 5-1 against the spread. Now, LA can't buy a cover. The Chargers have dropped four consecutive ATS over the last month to the Broncos, Raiders, Dolphins, and most recently, the winless Jets. L.A. has been awful in the box score, getting out-gained on a yards-per-play basis in four of the last five. The Chargers could morph into a bet-on team later on in the year but it'll have to wait at least another week - the team has a terrible matchup on the road next Sunday against the Bills.Buffalo's trajectory in the betting markets looks like someone flunked a lie detector test. The club got off to a roaring 4-0 start to reach its peak price point before - naturally - losing three in a row ATS and, after getting swept under the rug, is now back on the upswing. The Bills have covered consecutive games and should be on a quiet 4-0 run, had it not been for the Cardinals' Hail Mary a week ago.I love the matchup for the Bills' defense here. This unit has only gotten better as the season's progressed - after entering Week 6 ranked No. 29 in DVOA defense, they're currently slotted No. 17 despite playing the 10th-toughest schedule of opposing offenses.Lastly, fading LA fits an odd trend that's been perfect since 2008: Teams playing the Chargers off their bye week have been 10-0 ATS coming into this year. The Jets made it 11-0 this past Sunday, covering as 10-point underdogs.Buffalo's rested, trending up, and facing a team whose stock is gradually falling. Flores confident in Tua despite benching: 'He's got my full support'
Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores yanked Tua Tagovailoa in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, but the head coach says he still believes in his rookie quarterback.Flores expressed support for Tagovailoa on Monday and avoided singling him out, focusing on the team's collective effort instead."We all have to play better. We've got to coach better. He's not in this alone. He's got my full support, he's got the support of our coaching staff, he's got the support of every player in that locker room," Flores said, according to Sports Illustrated's Alain Poupart.Tagovailoa was benched for Ryan Fitzpatrick after completing just 11 of 20 passes for 83 yards. In his fourth career start, he was also sacked six times.Fitzpatrick threw for 117 yards in relief, but his late interception sealed the Broncos' victory.Flores said afterward that Tagovailoa would remain the starter."He's the starting quarterback. He knows that. We've had that conversation. He's played well. And I expect him to continue to play well, I expect him to bounce back," Flores said. "He's a resilient kid, like I've said. ...“Look, this is clearly a very talented player. He's played well. He's a young player and he's an improving player. And he's a developing player. We've got a lot of confidence in him."Tagovailoa has led the Dolphins to a 3-1 record since being named the starter. The former Alabama product has yet to throw an interception this season but is managing just 120.4 passing yards per game.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Ingram, Dobbins out for TNF vs. Steelers after positive tests
Baltimore Ravens running backs Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins tested positive for COVID-19 and won't be available to play Thanksgiving night versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed.Defensive tackle Brandon Williams will join them on the COVID-19 reserve due to contact tracing, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. The Ravens reopened their facility Monday afternoon after shutting it down upon learning multiple members of the organization had tested positive for COVID-19. The team received the positive results Sunday night following their loss to the Tennessee Titans."Late last night, we were informed that multiple members of the Baltimore Ravens organization tested positive for COVID-19, and those individuals immediately began to self-quarantine," the team said in a statement. The Ravens' Thursday night game against the Pittsburgh Steelers remains on schedule as of Monday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. With their top two running backs sidelined, the Ravens figure to feature Gus Edwards in the backfield against the Steelers. Report: Burrow tore ACL, MCL, suffered other damage
An MRI confirmed Joe Burrow tore his ACL on Sunday, but the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback also tore his MCL and suffered other structural damage to his left knee, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ben Baby.Burrow was carted off the field after Washington Football Team defensive lineman Jonathan Allen fell into his leg while Montez Sweat simultaneously hit him from the side."We expect him to have surgery and rehab and full recovery and be ready for the 2021 season," Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Monday, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Athletic. The No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft was enjoying a fine rookie season. He threw for 2,688 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions over 10 starts and completed over 65% of his passes.Burrow tweeted "see ya next year" shortly after the game, signaling he expected to miss the remainder of the campaign. The Bengals finished Week 11 with Ryan Finley at quarterback and plan to promote Brandon Allen from the practice squad to take Burrow's place on the active roster, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Browns' Garrett ruled out vs. Jaguars
The Cleveland Browns will be without pass-rusher Myles Garrett for their Week 12 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Garrett was placed on the COVID-19 list last week after reportedly testing positive and also missed Sunday's contest against the Philadelphia Eagles as a result. The Cleveland pass-rusher was an instrumental piece in the Browns' early success this season. Despite missing Sunday's game, Garrett is still tied for the league lead in sacks (9.5). He has also forced four fumbles.A former No. 1 overall draft pick, Garrett has notched 40 sacks since entering the NFL.Stefanski has also said he is hopeful safety Ronnie Harrison will be able to play against the Jaguars after suffering a knee injury on Sunday, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. The Browns hold a 7-3 record and are in the thick of the AFC playoff picture, currently holding the 6-seed.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. 10 takeaways from Week 11
Sunday Rundown recaps the most important developments from the day's action and examines the significance of those events moving forward.Mahomes magic Christian Petersen / Getty Images Sport / GettyAt this point, the thing with Patrick Mahomes is it's less about what he can do and more about how ordinary it's become to expect him to do it.Mahomes was having another sensational night, but the Kansas City Chiefs trailed the Las Vegas Raiders by three points when he got the ball at his own 20-yard line with 1:43 remaining. Derek Carr, the Raiders quarterback who already hung 40 points on the Chiefs to beat them earlier this season, had a terrific night as well. Carr looked to be on the brink of defeating Mahomes again, but any amount of time the Chiefs signal-caller gets on the clock to win the game seems to be too much.Seven plays and six Mahomes completions to four receivers later, and the Chiefs were in the end zone with 28 seconds to spare. All told, Mahomes completed 34 of 45 passes for 348 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception - just his second of the year. He did it every which way: from the pocket, on the run, off his back foot, and by making quick reads to beat the blitz. It's simultaneously remarkable and routine. It's what he does.Taysom's time comes Chris Graythen / Getty Images Sport / GettySean Payton's curious decision to start quarterback Taysom Hill instead of Jameis Winston worked out for the New Orleans Saints. Hill completed 18 of 23 passes (78.2%) and averaged 10.1 yards per attempt. Two of those incompletions were drops by Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara. Hill also rushed for an additional 51 yards and two touchdowns, though he lost a fumble. Who needs Drew Brees? In all seriousness, Hill played about as well as Payton could have wanted, in large part because the head coach cooked up a play-action-heavy game plan that took advantage of Hill's running ability. Hill's lone deep pass attempt was an arm punt caught by Emmanuel Sanders. But he was also 4-for-5 for 73 yards on intermediate-range throws (10-19 air yards), per Next Gen Stats, and he targeted Thomas 12 times overall. Thomas wound up with nine catches for 104 yards.Still, according to nflfastR data, Hill had a dropback EPA/play of just 0.04, and his estimated QBR was 59.2, which would rank in the bottom-third of the league. Anyone ready to start designing a bust in Canton for Hill might want to slow their roll.Brees is on injured reserve with multiple broken ribs. He can't return until Week 14, at the earliest. The Saints have to play at the Denver Broncos and at the Atlanta Falcons between now and then. The Saints' D is legit Chris Graythen / Getty Images Sport / GettySaints fans can and should feel damn good about the way their defense is playing. A unit that came in ranked fifth in defensive DVOA - and first against the run - made life hell for Atlanta QB Matt Ryan.New Orleans finished with eight sacks, 11 hits, two interceptions, and 11 passes defended. It was a banner day for inside linebacker Demario Davis, defensive tackles Cameron Jordan and David Onyemata, and defensive end Trey Hendrickson. The Falcons converted just two of 14 third downs all game and managed only 87 total yards in the second half. The Saints did all of this without injured cornerback Marshon Lattimore.New Orleans has given up 25 total points in its last three games. No matter what Hill does until Brees comes back, that's the kind of defensive performance that can keep the Saints atop the crowded NFC, where just two games separate them from the conference's No. 7 seed. What in the world is wrong with Carson Wentz? Gregory Shamus / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Philadelphia Eagles have endured a staggering number of injuries to their offensive line and receiving corps. But it's no longer possible to spit-shine quarterback Carson Wentz's performance by citing those excuses. In Sunday's loss at the Cleveland Browns, Wentz was hot garbage - and it's a trend.Wentz threw an awful pick-6 and another brutal interception near the goal line as the Eagles tried to come back in the waning minutes. He was also sacked for a safety on a play he seemed to have no feel for the pressure or situation.Wentz's 14 picks and 40 sacks are both league-worsts - and no one else is close. He also leads the NFL with 10 fumbles. Philadelphia used a second-round draft pick on Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts to be Wentz's insurance policy. And yet ...
Newton won't focus beyond 2020: 'I have interest' in beating Cardinals
Cam Newton isn't worried about his future beyond the 2020 campaign. The veteran quarterback, who signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots after nearly four months of free agency, gave a Bill Belichick-esque response when asked if he's interested in remaining with the team beyond this season."Man, I have interest in winning the Arizona Cardinals game. How about that?" Newton said on "The Greg Hill Show" Monday, according to NESN's Zack Cox.New England hosts the Cardinals in Week 12 following a disappointing 27-20 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Patriots won two in a row prior to the defeat but dropped their previous four and have at times looked out of sync on offense.Newton acknowledged his team's inconsistencies but added he's still in the process of learning nuances within Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels' scheme."Do I know everything in this offense? No, I do not," he said, per Cox. "But I'm striving to do that ... I feel as if I'm more in control than I have been. I can say that."The Patriots currently sit in third place in the AFC East - a division they dominated over the last two decades - at 4-6. Newton's squad is on the outside looking in at a playoff spot, but the former MVP noted there's still time to improve."We've been having great practices," Newton said, via NFL Network's Mike Giardi. "But you have to understand, this is the NFL, any given Sunday."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Reid doesn't sweat close games: 'I've got Patrick Mahomes ... I'm good'
The Las Vegas Raiders scored with 1:43 remaining to take a 31-28 lead in their Week 11 contest and close in on a second victory this season over the Kansas City Chiefs.Such a deficit would normally be cause for worry, but not for Andy Reid. The Chiefs head coach said he had no reason to panic late in the game."I've got Patrick Mahomes and a minute and a half. I'm good," Reid said after the game, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher. The Chiefs' offense needed just 1:15 to march 75 yards down the field for a game-winning touchdown pass from the reigning Super Bowl MVP to tight end Travis Kelce.Mahomes was just as confident as Reid was when faced with the game-winning drive.
Rams-Buccaneers betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. For the fourth time this season (and third instance in four weeks), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-4, 48) are in a prime-time spot. This one is against a dangerous but inconsistent Los Angeles Rams squad looking to keep pace in the fierce NFC West. Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Monday night.Betting trendsTwo weeks after getting blown out by the New Orleans Saints in prime time, the Buccaneers are under the bright lights once again. This spot hasn't been favorable for them as of late; Tampa Bay is 5-15-1 against the spread in its last 21 prime-time games - including 0-3 ATS this year - with a 6-2 run to the under. The Rams have covered six of their last nine games in the night slot with a 6-3 record to the under, holding their three prime-time opponents this year to 17 points per game. They're also 6-2 ATS in their last eight as road underdogs, while the Bucs are 8-16-2 ATS as home favorites since 2013.When it comes to facing top competition, the advantage goes to Sean McVay, who's covered four of his last five against teams with winning records. Bruce Arians is 10-20-2 ATS in that spot since 2015, when he was still coaching the Arizona Cardinals. As far as recent Monday night trends go, favorites are 6-3 ATS since Week 4, and the under is 23-10-1 since late 2018, including 8-4-1 this season.Player propsDarrell Henderson under 31.5 rushing yards (-110)Even if Eric Dickerson was suiting up in this one, I might be tempted to bet the under on his yardage prop against this stellar Buccaneers defense. Tampa Bay has allowed 54.7 rushing yards to opposing running backs this season - easily the best in the NFL - and should put the clamps on an uncertain backfield on Monday.Henderson has recorded just 15 rushing attempts combined in his last two games, ranking behind Cam Akers (10) last week and Malcolm Brown (10) the contest before. Even if he does get a shot, he'll struggle to find daylight against the Buccaneers' front, making this an easy fade.Tom Brady under 300.5 passing yards (-130)Brady turned back the clock last week with 341 passing yards and three touchdowns against a lousy Carolina Panthers secondary, but don't expect him to carry that momentum into Monday's contest. He's topped 300 yards just three times this year in games against the Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers. None of those clubs have earned strong marks with their pass defense. In all other games, he's averaging 237.1 passing yards, which is closer to what you should expect against a Rams defense that entered the week ranked third in passing yards allowed (199.7). This is an inflated number that offers plenty of value in what should be a test for Brady.Best betUnder 48Prime-time unders have been cash for a while. Perhaps it's due to the influx of public bettors nudging the total upward, or maybe it's because of the extra time defenses have to prepare for what's coming. Whatever the reason, this looks like another ideal spot to bet on two stellar defenses in a game both sides need to win to keep their divisional hopes alive.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Flores: Tua's benching not injury-related, will remain starter next week
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was removed in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos due to performance and not an injury, head coach Brian Flores said, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.Flores said the swap was made because Ryan Fitzpatrick “gave us the best chance to win the game,” but Tagovailoa will remain the starter moving forward.Tagovailoa completed 11 of 20 pass attempts for 83 yards and a touchdown. He was also sacked six times."My thoughts were whatever was going to be best for the team. When I was in, we couldn't really get things going," said Tagovailoa.Prior to Sunday’s game, Fitzpatrick hadn't recorded a pass attempt since Week 6. The 37-year-old helped Miami to a 3-3 record before being benched in favor of Tua. He finished with 12 completions for 117 yards and an interception against the Broncos.Tagovailoa was named Miami's starter during the team's Week 7 bye. Taysom Hill leads Saints past Falcons in 1st NFL start
New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill got the job done in his first career NFL start.Hill completed 18 of 23 pass attempts for 233 yards while adding 51 yards and two scores on the ground to lead the Saints to a 24-9 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The versatile playmaker, who was mostly used as a runner this season prior to Week 11, earned the starting role over Jameis Winston after Drew Brees was placed on injured reserve this past week. Brees is reportedly dealing with 11 fractured ribs after taking a hard hit against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10.All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas was Hill's favorite target against the Falcons, registering nine catches on 12 targets for 104 yards.Overall, the Saints amassed 378 yards and 24 first downs on offense. New Orleans was also supported by a solid performance from its defense, which sacked quarterback Matt Ryan eight times while holding the Falcons to 248 total yards.Hill became just the ninth quarterback in NFL history to make his first start at the age of 30 or older.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Saints without Lattimore for matchup with Falcons
The New Orleans Saints won't have top cornerback Marshon Lattimore in the lineup when they take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11.The team listed Lattimore as questionable for the contest with an abdomen injury after he was a limited participant in practice throughout the week.Lattimore had steadied himself in recent weeks following a rough start to his fourth NFL campaign. The 24-year-old notched his first interception of the year Nov. 1 against the Chicago Bears and was credited with three pass breakups this season. The Saints rank 15th in passing defense, and a Falcons receiving corps boasting star wideouts Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley could test the unit.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Raiders to activate 7 from COVID-19 list ahead of Chiefs game
The Las Vegas Raiders are activating several key defenders from the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The players being added to the active roster are safties Johnathan Abram and Isaiah Johnson, defensive end Arden Key, and defensive tackles Maliek Collins, Johnathan Hankins, Kendal Vickers, and David Irving, sources told Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.They are now all eligible to play Sunday night. The Raiders placed most of their starting defenders on the COVID-19 list after deeming them high-risk close contacts to defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell, who recently tested positive for the virus. Linebacker Cory Littleton also has tested positive and remains on the COVID-19 reserve. The team doesn't expect either to hit the field in Week 11.Vegas' defensive coordinator Paul Guenther recently described this past week's preparation for the Chiefs without most of his starters a "daunting task."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Saints were divided over QB decision between Hill, Winston
The decision to start Taysom Hill over Jameis Winston reportedly wasn't an easy one for New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton.Payton struggled with choosing Hill to start Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, with multiple players and personnel believing Winston should have been chosen to start, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. With the Saints reportedly expecting Drew Brees to be in his final year, Payton wants to see how Hill handles the starting role to evaluate the potential of the team rolling with the third-year backup long term, Schefter adds.New Orleans placed Brees, who's dealing with 11 rib fractures and a punctured lung, on injured reserve earlier in the week. The veteran passer is hoping for a Week 14 return but a longer four-to-five week recovery is also possible, sources told Schefter.Winston will serve as the backup Sunday but has impressed many members of the team, leaving the door open for him to become the franchise's quarterback of the future. The Saints also have a lucrative reason for going with Hill after giving the versatile athlete a two-year, $21-million extension during the offseason.Winston was also brought in during the offseason but signed a modest one-year deal for just $1.1 million. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller can also add more money to his deal with incentives tied to playing time, according to Spotrac.Hill, 30, has spent most of his time in New Orleans as a dual-threat rusher and receiver. While Drew Brees' recovery from the multiple injuries that landed him on injured reserve has been encouraging to his doctors, they have discovered six more rib fractures, the New Orleans Saints quarterback told ESPN's Ed Werder.Medical personnel had initially diagnosed Brees with five fractures and a collapsed lung but further X-rays and CAT scans uncovered eight rib fractures on his left side and three more on his right side, he told Werder.Brees believes he first suffered the fractures on his left side in a Week 9 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 41-year-old believes he fractured the three ribs on his right side in last Sunday's win against the San Francisco 49ers after he took a hard hit in the first half and was unable to return at halftime. NFL Week 11 Pros vs Joes: Bettors lining up on Falcons, Dolphins
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Before you make your NFL bets this weekend, it's worth knowing which sides other bettors are backing - especially on games drawing sharp action. We talked to Jay Rood, Bet.Works' chief risk officer and theScore Bet's head trader, to see how sharps and public bettors are playing the Week 11 slate.Falcons @ Saints (-3.5, 49.5), 1 p.m. ETTo nobody's surprise, the public is all over the Falcons this week against the Saints, who are without Drew Brees for this week and beyond. What is somewhat surprising is the sharps like the road 'dogs, too.Atlanta was drawing 50 times as much money on straight bets entering the weekend, forcing this line to move from an opening 5 to 3.5 by late Saturday afternoon. The Falcons have also gotten six times as many tickets written to them, suggesting support from all types of bettors ahead of Sunday."We’re getting pretty much exclusive money on the Falcons," Rood said. "The Falcons money showed up early and often."Eagles @ Browns (-2.5, 47.5), 1 p.m. The Eagles are another wiseguy target this week, opening as 3.5-point underdogs and being priced at +2.5 as of Saturday.Philadelphia had garnered 75% of the ticket count entering the weekend, but it'd seen an overwhelming 26-to-1 advantage in money wagered on those tickets. Curiously, the Browns have been the parlay favorites this week, pulling four times as much money and five times as many bet slips. If Cleveland does win, the club will reverse a discouraging trend in this spot. The Browns are 7-15-2 against the spread in their last 24 games as favorites, including 2-4 ATS this season.Steelers (-10.5, 46.5) @ Jaguars, 1 p.m.Few teams draw consistent public support quite like the Steelers - they are again in the crosshairs for bettors in a favorable spot against the Jaguars.Pittsburgh is the most-parlayed team on the board this week, with a 4-to-1 advantage in ticket count and a whopping 20-to-1 margin in money on parlay slips. The Steelers are also a popular play in straight bets, drawing 12 times as much money to move this line from 9.5 to 10.5 as of Saturday. This new line suggests the public may be onto something. Double-digit road favorites are 15-5-1 ATS since 2018, winning all 21 games by an average of 19.5 points per game.Dolphins (-3.5, 45) @ Broncos, 4:05 p.m.Miami, another overwhelming side this week, is earning all of the public support against a thin Denver squad. The Dolphins opened as 3-point favorites and quickly moved to -3.5, where bettors still piled on in anticipation of the Broncos playing without starting quarterback Drew Lock. Miami had drawn 40 times as many tickets with a whopping 2,500-1 advantage in money entering the weekend, albeit at a lower volume than what we'll likely see by kickoff.Still, bettors are clearly riding the Dolphins' five-game ATS win streak ahead of this one - even playing Miami at a roughly 20-to-1 clip in parlay bets, too."We’ve got almost exclusive money on the Dolphins at this point," Rood said. "That’s a one-way situation right there, both on the straight bets and on the parlays."(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. The New England Patriots have activated Sony Michel off injured reserve, clearing the running back to return for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Michel has only played in three games this season due to a quad injury.A first-round pick in 2018, Michel ran for 117 yards during his last appearance in Week 3.The running back's absence paved the way for Damien Harris and Rex Burkhead to take control of the Patriots' ground game. Harris, a third-round selection in 2019, has run the ball well this season, rushing for over 100 yards in three games. Burkhead has also chipped in, contributing 454 yards from scrimmage.Michel's return gives New England a variety of options in the backfield with three capable running backs. The 25-year-old has 25 career starts and has rushed for over 900 yards in each of his last two seasons.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Broncos' Lock to start vs. Dolphins despite rib injury
Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock will start Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, a source told Mike Klis of 9News.The Broncos listed Lock as questionable Friday due to a rib injury. After missing Wednesday's practice, the signal-caller had limited training participation in the last two days. The 24-year-old has struggled in his second NFL campaign, completing 55% of his pass attempts while throwing for just seven touchdowns against 10 interceptions.Lock has missed two games due to injury this season. The 3-6 Broncos will try to snap a two-game losing streak in Week 11.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Titans' Clowney lands on IR with knee injury
The Tennessee Titans placed outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney on injured reserve due to a knee injury, the team announced Saturday.Clowney has been bothered by the ailment for the majority of the season. He failed to practice all week and has been listed on the weekly injury report since Week 5.The injury sidelined him for Week 9, and he was reportedly considering undergoing surgery earlier this season to fix the issue.A coveted free agent in the offseason, Clowney hasn't met expectations since signing with the Titans on a one-year deal. The 27-year-old pass-rusher has yet to record a sack and has just six quarterback hits. The Titans had been counting on Clowney and Vic Beasley, signed from the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason, to improve their pass rush, but Beasley's time in Tennessee was cut short when he was released due to lack of production.Clowney, a former No. 1 pick, has recorded just three sacks over the last two seasons.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL upset of the week: Titans are built to beat Ravens
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Each week during the NFL season, we'll focus on one underdog with a chance to pull off the outright upset. Last week, we hit once again with the Giants (+160) easily beating the Eagles, bringing our record to 4-6 on moneyline underdogs with +1.1 units won.We don't love the value across the board this week, so we'll take a swing on a talented Titans team (+220) in a favorable matchup with the struggling Ravens.Ravens' offense flounderingA year after boasting the top scoring offense in the league, Baltimore simply can't score. The Ravens posted three or fewer offensive touchdowns in seven of their nine games this year, including three straight games with 24 points or fewer.Their offense can't find a rhythm, and it's not just on the scoreboard. Baltimore ranks 21st in yards per play (5.5) and 27th in first downs per game (19.7), and it's been almost entirely shut down by teams with speed on defense that can match the Ravens side-to-side and in the deep passing game. The Titans stretched the field beautifully against this team in the playoffs a year ago, and they can follow that blueprint Sunday.A proven path to victoryIf you're having trouble envisioning a Tennessee win this weekend, just think back to 10 months ago, when Derrick Henry ran roughshod all over Baltimore and Lamar Jackson struggled to stretch the field against the Titans' speedy defense. The pieces are there for a similar approach. One of Tennessee's biggest struggles this year has been pass protection. Ryan Tannehill has completed 71% of his passes in a clean pocket this year and 47.3% of his passes when pressured, which tracks with his performance in his 2019 breakout, too. The Ravens blitz 44% of the time, most in the NFL, but they're among the least efficient with those blitzes and rank 14th in hurry percentage (9.6%).They also struggled to contain Damien Harris (121 yards) a week ago and likely still have nightmares about Henry's 195-yard performance from January. If Henry gets to the edge against an ill-timed Baltimore blitz, it's game over. That's to say nothing of Baltimore's thinning secondary, which could lead to high-leverage opportunities for Tannehill if the Ravens' blitz doesn't get to him in time. Why the Titans will winTennessee already found the formula for beating the Ravens, and it seems other teams have, too. Jackson complained a week ago that opposing defenses are "calling out our plays," and while offensive coordinator Greg Roman minimized the issue, it's still a concern as Baltimore faces a team that flummoxed its offense in a high-profile spot 10 months ago.The Titans' much-maligned defense has had 10 days to prepare for the Ravens in addition to what it gleaned from their last matchup, while their offense is ideally built to challenge Baltimore. This moneyline should be much closer to +160 or so, making this +220 price well worth the shot.(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. NFL Week 11 parlay: Texans, Dolphins, Packers
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We cashed the first two legs of our Week 10 parlay on Sunday, which took us into Monday night in need of a Bears win for a hefty payout. Hopefully, you hedged. Here's what's on tap for Week 11.Texans ML +120 (vs. Patriots), Nov. 22 @ 1 p.m. ETThe Patriots found unexpected success in Week 10, upsetting the Ravens with a strong assist from Mother Nature. New England won by keeping the ball on the ground and out of Cam Newton's hands while keying in on the Ravens' rushing attack with little threat of being beaten through the air. The Pats' resurgent run game will find success again against a Texans unit that can't stop the run, but there will be a greater urgency for Newton to make plays through the air against Deshaun Watson. The Ravens' pass attack pales in comparison to the Texans', which ranks second in yards per pass. Houston might struggle to stop the run, but Watson will have no issue keeping pace against a Patriots secondary that allows an alarmingly high 68.16% completion percentage and ranks 31st in yards per pass through the air (8.2). This is a great sell-high spot on New England coming off that prime-time win, and we get excellent value with the Texans as a result. There's little between these two teams, and if you erase New England's win last week, Houston would be short favorites here at home.Dolphins ML -170 (@ Broncos), Nov. 22 @ 4:05 p.m.What else can the Dolphins do to get the respect they deserve? Oddsmakers seem reluctant to believe in this team despite all the underlying numbers suggesting its recent success is sustainable. Miami is one of the NFL's best-coached squads under Brian Flores, and that's reflected in the team's pristine turnover margin, third-down defense, and special teams. Tua Tagovailoa is showing excellent poise and command of this offense while not turning the ball over, and the defense is loaded with talent and has been playing lights-out. The team is so focused right now that a letdown should be far out of our minds. This flawless Miami secondary gave Justin Herbert fits, which doesn't bode well for a banged-up Drew Lock, who's coming off a four-interception game against the Raiders' relatively meager secondary. Much of the success that the Broncos have found on offense over the past month has come in garbage time, and there should be plenty of that here with the Dolphins likely to pull ahead rather quickly.Packers ML +110 (@ Colts), Nov. 22 @ 4:25 p.m.The Colts' dominant win over the Titans last Thursday is fresh in everyone's minds, while the Packers struggled to get past the Jaguars. The Colts are impressing on both sides of the ball, but it's hard to put much stock in their offensive performance against a Tennessee team that not only can't play defense but also forgot how to play special teams. This will be a much different test against a Packers unit that's getting healthy. The Colts are playing well, but it's hard to know how seriously to take them. Their most impressive win was last week's against the Titans; otherwise, they've beaten up the league's bottom-feeders. Their two biggest tests - the Ravens and Browns - ended in lopsided defeats. In what will be a tight, hard-fought game, I'm much more comfortable relying on Aaron Rodgers and his abundance of weapons than I am on Rivers.Full parlay: Texans ML, Dolphins ML, Packers ML ($100 to win $634)(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. NFL Week 11 teaser: Take the points with the Falcons, Titans
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We may never lose again.Another teaser win in Week 10 - this time the points were necessary after getting two outright winners the week before - ensures we continue to line our pockets with their money.Let's take more of it in Week 11.Falcons @ Saints, Nov. 22 @ 1 p.m. ETLine: Falcons +5Teaser line: Falcons +11Even when the going is good for the Saints, a date with the Falcons never proves to be straightforward. Atlanta went into last year's meeting at the Superdome sitting at 1-7 and still laid a 26-9 beating on the 7-1 Saints. Drew Brees and this dynamic New Orleans offense failed to find the end zone. It'll reportedly be Taysom Hill, not Brees, this time around for the Saints. Hill and Jameis Winston hardly inspired last week against the 49ers in the second half, averaging just 4.1 yards per play and finding the end zone once thanks to a muffed punt. Hill also turned the ball over and will now apparently take the reigns for a game against the division-rival Falcons, who are playing their best football of the season.Atlanta was a Todd Gurley slide away from being 4-0 since firing Dan Quinn. It's not all that different to last season when Morris' defense stiffened up as the Falcons finished 6-2 after a 1-7 start. Coming off their bye, the Falcons will have this game circled and posted on the bulletin board, and they just so happen to be catching the Brees-less Saints - who are also dealing with other key injuries on both sides of the ball - at the perfect time.Titans @ Ravens, Nov. 22 @ 1 p.m.Line: Titans +6Teaser line: Titans +12The main worry here is whether the Titans' offensive line can hold up long enough to help Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry take advantage of a suddenly struggling Ravens defense. Perhaps the most stunning takeaway from Baltimore's loss at Foxboro was how much the defense struggled to set the edge.Damien Harris and Rex Burkhead each averaged over five yards a carry (5.5 and 5.2, respectively), with Harris tallying 121 on the ground. Henry victimized the Ravens for 195 rushing yards in their divisional round meeting last season, and you can bet Mike Vrabel will ride him again here. With success running the ball, Tennessee will alleviate the pass rush and open space in the secondary for Tannehill to exploit.Meanwhile, the Ravens can't produce on offense. Some nasty weather didn't help in Week 10, but the warning signs have been there for weeks. Their typically dynamic rushing attack is sputtering and the passing game has been remarkably dysfunctional. With an extra few days to prepare for this rematch, and the Titans desperate not to fall out of the playoff hunt, we can trust Vrabel to scheme up a tight game.Full teaser: Falcons +11, Titans +12 ($110 to win $100)(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. Week 11: Welcome to Taysom time in New Orleans
A rundown of the best games and most interesting trends for Week 11 of the NFL. All times Eastern. What's going on?Falcons (3-6) at Saints (7-2), 1 p.m.New Orleans has reportedly decided to replace injured quarterback Drew Brees with Taysom Hill, which simultaneously makes sense and seems completely crazy. Why it makes sense: Hill is a versatile threat who presents rushing, read-option, and run-pass-option possibilities that Atlanta will have to account for. The Saints also handed Hill roughly $16 million in guarantees this offseason, presumably because they viewed him as Drew Brees' likely backup. They signed Jameis Winston for just $1.1 million a day later. Why it seems completely crazy: Hill is in his fifth season, but he's attempted just 18 career passes, including five this year. He's been fine as a Swiss Army knife, but he's a total unknown as the guy taking every snap. Winston has his turnover tendencies, but he's also been a high-volume NFL quarterback for several years. One last point to consider:
Report: Hill to start over Winston vs. Falcons
The New Orleans Saints will start Taysom Hill over Jameis Winston at quarterback for Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.Hill reportedly received all the starter reps in practice this week, Schefter adds.Winston will not be part of any offensive packages for the Week 11 matchup, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini. The decision comes as a bit of a surprise as the Saints rolled with Winston in relief of Drew Brees in each of their last two contests.Brees reportedly suffered a collapsed lung and multiple rib fractures last week. The most optimistic timeline for his recovery is apparently two-to-three weeks.Hill has primarily been used as a rushing threat in New Orleans' offense, though he's also played as a receiver. The 30-year-old has four rushing touchdowns and seven receiving scores over his career.Hill has completed 10 of 18 career pass attempts for 205 yards. He has one interception but has yet to throw for a touchdown.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
NFL Week 11 best bets: Chiefs, Dolphins in ideal chalk spots
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We got back on track with a 2-1 record last week, bringing our year-long record in an unpredictable 2020 season back to .500. Here are my best bets for Week 11.Dolphins (-3.5, 45) @ Broncos, 4:05 p.m. ETI'm betting the Dolphins until the market gives me a good reason not to. The betting public has faded Miami each of the past three weeks, but its surging defense has keyed a five-game win streak and a 5-0 run against the spread - the best active streak in the NFL. And, for whatever reason, this team is again undervalued in a promising spot against the underwhelming Broncos. The Dolphins are tied for fourth in takeaways (15) and turnover margin (+5), which looms large against a Denver team with the most giveaways (21) and ranked second-worst in turnover differential (-12). The Broncos are 8-0 ATS when winning the turnover battle since Vic Fangio took over in 2019 - tied for the NFL's second-best mark in that span - but they're an abysmal 4-11-2 ATS in all other games, among the worst records by any team.Drew Lock has engineered many of those turnovers, but his questionable status isn't necessarily good news for those backing Denver. Since drafting Lock in 2019, the Broncos are averaging 20.5 points with a 6-6 record in his 12 starts. The club is 4-9 with 17.1 points per game in 13 games without him. Whether it's an injured Lock or someone else, Denver's quarterback will have his hands full against Miami's opportunistic defense.Pick: Dolphins -3.5Bengals @ Washington (-2, 46.5), 1 p.m. ETI've backed the Bengals as much as anyone this year, but this line is selling Washington short. The team's offense came alive in the second half of last week's loss to the Lions, renewing optimism in Alex Smith after his 390-yard passing effort with zero turnovers. On the other side, Joe Burrow wilted last week against the Steelers' elite front, which is the third time in the last five weeks a top-end defense thwarted the rookie signal-caller. Washington boasts a top-eight defense by DVOA and PFF team grades and the unit is just two weeks removed from recording five sacks on Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. The Bengals will also be without star back Joe Mixon in addition to three assistant coaches who will miss Sunday's game for COVID-19-related reasons, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. While a thinned-out coaching staff may not a huge concern, it certainly doesn't help Cincinnati in an already uphill battle.Pick: Washington -2Chiefs (-7.5, 57) @ Raiders, 8:20 p.m. ETThis is a perfectly fine number on this game and I don't fault anyone for feeling like there's value grabbing the hook. However, I just can't justify fading the Chiefs in this revenge spot against a vulnerable division foe.Six weeks ago, the Raiders got the best of their rivals in a 40-32 barn burner in Kansas City. Since then, the Chiefs have allowed 18.3 points per game and have had a full two weeks to prepare for Las Vegas' offense the second time around. Andy Reid is 21-9 ATS coming off a bye week in his coaching career and his team is 19-7-1 ATS in divisional games since 2016, including going 10-2 ATS in the second meeting.Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes has rediscovered his MVP touch with 788 yards and nine touchdowns over his last two games. Mahomes should shred an already suspect Raiders defense that's dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak and will either be missing key starters or relying on them with little to no practice time.Pick: Chiefs -7.5(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore.
