Report: Lamar likely to return from COVID-19 list, start vs. Cowboys
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to return from the reserve/COVID-19 list and start against the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Jackson, 23, contracted the virus in late November and missed Wednesday's rescheduled game against the Pittsburgh Steelers as a result. The Ravens continue to return to normalcy following a COVID-19 outbreak that at one point saw 20 players on the reserve list. The club confirmed Saturday that not all personnel followed health protocols correctly and that at least four unique strains of the virus traveled through the team facility.Baltimore added running back Mark Ingram and defensive end Calais Campbell to the active roster Saturday. Key players J.K. Dobbins, Pernell McPhee, Patrick Mekari, and Matt Skura were also among those recently removed from the COVID-19 list. The team still has a handful of contributors on the list, including wide receiver Willie Snead and tight end Mark Andrews. Andrews is not expected to play Tuesday, according to Schefter. The 6-5 Ravens have lost three straight games. They were initially scheduled to face Dallas this past Thursday before the outbreak forced the league to move their contest against the Steelers.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Week 13: Another big chance for the Browns
A rundown of the best games and most interesting trends for Week 13 of the NFL. All times Eastern. Is Cleveland … good?Browns (8-3) at Titans (8-3), 1 p.m.Yes, it's true: The Browns are one win away from securing their first winning season since 2007, and through 12 weeks, they're firmly in line to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2002. These are the Cleveland Browns, however. There's still time for everything to fall apart. Optimism requires looking both ways - and looking up for a falling piano, just in case. It's tricky to get an accurate read on how good the Browns are. They're 8-3, which is good enough to possess what would be the top wild-card spot in the AFC. But they're just 1-3 against teams with winning records, and they last played a team with a winning record five weeks ago. And when they were in a Big Game spot at the Steelers back in Week 6, they got crumpled up and tossed into a trash can. The Browns do get Myles Garrett back from the COVID-19 list this week, at least. The Titans represent another solid barometer for Cleveland. Tennessee avenged an earlier loss to Indianapolis to take command of the AFC South by doing what it does best: getting efficient play from quarterback Ryan Tannehill while also pounding the ball with Derrick Henry. Tennessee's been without injured left tackle Taylor Lewan since Week 6, and the Titans lost backup Ty Sambrailo for the year in Week 11. But they're making it work.We shall seeSaints (9-2) at Falcons (4-7), 1 p.m. Nic Antaya / Getty ImagesEven without Drew Brees, the Saints are one of the league's best teams. But they're also still something of an enigma. Nawlins hasn't allowed more than 13 points in its last four games, but last week, it whacked around a Broncos team playing with one hand tied behind its back because the league isn't all that interested in competitive integrity these days. There's also no telling just how good Taysom Hill is as a quarterback. This game should begin to settle the latter question, if only because these same Falcons faced Hill in his debut as a starter two weeks ago. It was Atlanta's only loss in its last four games. The Falcons would have five wins in their six games since head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff were fired if Todd Gurley had fallen down against the Lions. Really?Jaguars (1-10) at Vikings (5-6), 1 p.m.The Vikings were once 1-5. Now they're one game off the pace for the seventh and last playoff spot in the NFC. Minnesota needed Carolina to screw a lot up in order to eke out a comeback last week. Now the Vikes get the Mike Glennon-led Jags before finishing up at the Bucs, home to the Bears, and at the Saints and Lions.Football Outsiders gives Minnesota just a 17.0% chance of making the postseason - somehow worse than the Bears' 25.4%. The Bears are also 5-6, have lost five straight, and lack a quarterback. Whatever you think Minnesota's odds might indicate about Kirk Cousins, it's probably correct.Hmm ...Bills (8-3) at 49ers (5-6), Monday, 8:15 p.m. Michael Zagaris / Getty ImagesFor those keeping track, this is the originally scheduled Monday Night Football game for Week 13, though it's been moved to the Cardinals' stadium in Glendale, Arizona, because Santa Clara County in California has banned contact sports for the time being. It also won't be the last game of the weekend because Cowboys-Ravens is set to go down Tuesday night at 8 p.m. At least for now.Buffalo continues to get solid play from quarterback Josh Allen, who ranks sixth in the league in expected points added per play (EPA/play), per Ben Baldwin's website. As for San Francisco ...
Report: Steelers' Conner unlikely to play Monday vs. Washington
Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner is unlikely to play in the Week 13 tilt versus Washington despite being eligible to come off the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Conner tested positive for the virus last week and missed Wednesday's win over the Baltimore Ravens as a result. With the 25-year-old's status for Monday is in doubt, Benny Snell is likely to get his second straight start in the backfield, with rookie Anthony McFarland Jr. also chipping in.Snell rushed for 60 yards on 16 carries versus Baltimore, adding three receptions for 33 yards.Pittsburgh faced its own COVID-19 issues, canceling several practices leading up to Wednesday's game to help combat the virus. The Steelers activated defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt from the reserve list ahead of the Week 13 matchup.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Michigan's Harbaugh eyeing return to NFL
Jim Harbaugh could be making his way back to the pros after six eventful years in college football. The Michigan head coach is believed to be eyeing an NFL return in the same capacity, sources told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. There's a growing sense Harbaugh won't be back for a seventh season with the Wolverines and he could choose to walk away before being let go, Florio adds.Interest from NFL teams may be mutual, with another source telling Florio clubs are doing their homework on the 56-year-old.Harbaugh amassed a 44-19-1 record with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-2014 before he joined Michigan, leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl berth in his second season at the helm. Despite his success with the franchise, the two sides parted ways following a power struggle with ownership.Harbaugh's tenure with Michigan has been mired with his difficulties in winning key games and failing to capture a Big Ten championship despite a successful overall record. The Wolverines are in the midst of their worst campaign since 2014, sitting at 2-4 and coming off a loss to Penn State.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Brees could return for Week 14
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees' 11 fractured ribs and collapsed lung appear to be progressing quickly.Brees is reportedly tracking to play as early as Week 14 after being recently spotted throwing passes in practice, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 41-year-old's status for next Sunday's contest against the Philadelphia Eagles is not guaranteed and Taysom Hill's performance could factor into the Saints' decision, Schefter adds.A dominant showing from Hill on Sunday could lead New Orleans to keep its veteran signal-caller safe, while a poor outing could cause Brees to reemerge.Hill is 2-0 as a starter in place of the injured Purdue product, rushing for four touchdowns while also throwing 311 yards over the last two games. The Saints placed Brees on injured reserve on Nov. 20 and the quarterback was hopeful his injury wouldn't keep him sidelined for more than three games. The field general has completed a league-leading 73.5-percent of his passes this year for 18 touchdowns with just three interceptions.New Orleans is currently sitting atop the NFC with a 9-2 record, but the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks are hot on their heels.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Pederson's future with Eagles in doubt
It appears Doug Pederson may need a late-season charge if he hopes to keep his job in 2021.The Philadelphia Eagles head coach is on the hot seat entering the season's home stretch, and his future with the team is in doubt, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. There's no guarantee Pederson returns to the team next year despite leading Philadelphia to three straight playoff berths and a Super Bowl win in February 2018, Rapoport adds.Battling injuries and inconsistencies on both sides of the ball, Philadelphia sits third in the NFC East at 3-7-1. The Eagles field the NFL's 28th-ranked offense, highlighted by the struggles of quarterback Carson Wentz.Following Monday night's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, team leaders including Wentz, defensive end Brandon Graham, and center Jason Kelce held an impromptu meeting with Pederson present, according to Rapoport. The players reportedly preached accountability and addressed the importance of a late-season turnaround.Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is reportedly frustrated with his team's performance in 2020. He didn't travel for the Eagles' Week 11 game against the Cleveland Browns and has apparently left various practices early.Pederson, meanwhile, has reportedly surrendered some of his offensive play-calling duties to assistants in recent games in an attempt to spark Philadelphia's scoring attack. The Eagles' tough schedule continues Sunday with a road date against the Green Bay Packers.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Dolphins' Tua likely to start vs. Bengals
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is expected to return to the lineup and start Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. The rookie passer has been dealing with a thumb injury that sidelined him for Week 12. Tagovailoa will test the ailment during pre-game warmups as a final precaution before taking the field, Rapoport adds.Tagovailoa took the majority of first-team reps in practice this week, another indicator he'll suit up for Week 13.The 22-year-old has compiled a 3-1 record since head coach Brian Flores anointed him Miami's starting quarterback during the team's bye week. He's done a good job protecting the football, throwing for six touchdowns with no interceptions.Selected fifth overall by the Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tagovailoa has yet to throw for over 250 yards in a game. On Sunday, he'll be up against a Bengals defense that ranks 26th in the NFL in yardage allowed.Veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to back up Tagovailoa. The Dolphins are in the thick of the AFC playoff race, currently holding the sixth seed after winning six of their last seven games.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Titans' Clowney done for season after knee surgery
Tennessee Titans pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney is not expected to return this season after undergoing surgery on his left meniscus earlier this week, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Titans placed Clowney on injured reserve on Nov. 21 and were initially hopeful he could return for a potential playoff run, Rapoport notes. The surgery has reportedly ruled out that possibility.Clowney joined Tennessee late in the offseason on a one-year deal and was expected to bolster the team's pass rush. The 27-year-old didn't meet expectations, though, failing to notch a sack in eight contests.Tennessee is paying Clowney $13 million for the 2020 campaign and hasn't ruled out bringing him back for 2021, Rapoport adds.A seven-year pro, Clowney has recorded 32 career sacks but has managed just three over his last two seasons.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Broncos-Chiefs betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. The Chiefs (-13.5) are once again big favorites over the Broncos after blowing out their division rival by 27 points six weeks ago. Meanwhile, Denver is a week removed from a 28-point loss to the Saints without a regular quarterback in place. Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Sunday night.Betting trendsKansas City has won 19 of its last 20 games with 15 wins against the spread over that span, but it's now lost three straight ATS after Sunday's narrow win over the Buccaneers. Still, the Chiefs are 9-5 ATS against teams with losing records since Patrick Mahomes made his first start against the Broncos in 2017.Since Mahomes took over as a full-time starter in 2018, his team is 9-6-1 ATS in divisional games, including 3-1-1 ATS against the Broncos with an average scoring margin of +16.4 points. Kansas City has also covered six of its last eight games as a double-digit favorite, outscoring its opponents by 15.2 points per game in that stretch.Conversely, Denver has lost three of its last four ATS as an underdog and is 2-8-1 ATS in its last 11 games as a double-digit 'dog. The Broncos are also 6-13-2 ATS in divisional games since 2017, including 3-8 ATS in their last 11 with an 8-3 run to the under.Player propsTyreek Hill over 73.5 receiving yards (-112)Am I missing something here? Over his last four games, Hill has posted receiving totals of 98, 113, 102, and 269 yards as he continues to stake his claim as the best receiver in the NFL. The last time he didn't have at least 75 yards receiving was Week 7 against the Broncos (55 yards), though he was still targeted 10 times in that game.Hill has recorded at least 75 receiving yards in nine of his last 10 games with at least 10 targets, so chalk up that performance to a fluky result amid heavy volume. Expect Hill to get the better of the Broncos' secondary this time around.Jerry Jeudy under 50.5 receiving yards (-110)Don't look now, but the Chiefs' pass defense has been sneaky good this season, ranking in the top 10 in PFF's coverage grade and 13th in DVOA. If that wasn't enough, it's allowed the second-fewest yards per game to opposing wide receivers this season.Jeudy has had flashes of brilliance this year, but his snap share has dropped in recent weeks as he fights through a nagging ankle injury that's hampered his production. He's fallen below this number in four of his last seven and will struggle to surpass it Sunday against the Chiefs' secondary.Best betChiefs over 31 points (-115)It's hard to know what to expect from Denver's offense after last week's quarterback debacle, but we know what we'll get from the Chiefs, who have scored at least 31 points in four of their last five and seven of their 11 games this season. The Broncos' defense rolled over last week against the Saints and will be hard-pressed to slow down the division rivals in this one.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. NFL Week 13 Pros vs Joes: Sharp money flips line for 49ers
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Before you make your NFL bets this weekend, it's worth knowing which side other bettors are backing - especially on games drawing sharp action. We talked to Jay Rood, Bet.Works' chief risk officer and theScore Bet's head trader, to see how sharps and public bettors are playing this week's slate.Colts (-3, 51) @ Texans, Dec. 6 @ 1 p.m. ETA week after the Colts were blown out by the Titans, public bettors are expecting them to bounce back in a strong way against another division rival. As of late Friday, Indianapolis had drawn six times as many tickets in straight bets with an 100-to-1 edge in money wagered, moving the line from 2.5 to 3 as of Saturday. Parlay bettors are also betting the Colts at a 4-to-1 rate over the Texans, who have won three straight against the spread."We've had several dime bets," Rood said Friday of the action on Indianapolis. "Nothing sharp to this point."Jaguars @ Vikings (-10, 51), Dec. 6 @ 1 p.m.Another public target is the Vikings, who are just the second team this season to give at least 10 points to their opponent despite having a losing record.Bettors don't mind the price, laying 300 times as much money on Minnesota as of Friday against the Jaguars, the team with 10 straight losses since their season-opening win over the Colts. Some of that is sharp, Rood said, though most of it is public bettors expecting a Sunday blowout."We’re not seeing any buyback at +10 on the Jags," Rood said.Raiders (-8, 46.5) @ Jets, Dec. 6 @ 1 p.m.The Raiders laid an egg as public favorites a week ago, but bettors are giving them a second chance this week in a bounce-back spot against the winless Jets.Las Vegas opened as a 7.5-point favorite before some semi-sharp money bumped that number up to 8, Rood said. As of late Friday, the Raiders had seen seven times as many tickets with 150 times as much money wagered in straight bets. Las Vegas has had a major advantage in parlay activity, too."It's not necessarily about the Raiders but probably more about the Jets," Rood said.Eagles @ Packers (-8.5, 48.5), Dec. 6 @ 4:25 p.m.As has been the case for much of this season, bettors are all-in on the Packers - this week in a big chalk spot against the volatile Eagles.Green Bay has earned 10 times as much money as Philly on twice as many straight-bet tickets, which nudged the opening line up from 8 to 9 before a small adjustment back to 8.5 on Saturday. A 20-to-1 advantage in parlay money toward the Packers suggests an even bigger run of public money could come on the home side by kickoff."It’s almost all Packers money at this point," Rood said Friday. "Nobody’s buying into the fluky cover by the Eagles last week."Bills @ 49ers (-1, 47.5), Dec. 7 @ 8:15 p.m.The only line to flip this week comes on Monday night, when the 49ers will likely close as favorites over the visiting Bills in one of Week 13's best matchups.Buffalo opened as 2.5-point chalk, but a couple of sharp plays on San Francisco swung the line in its favor for the 49ers' first game in Arizona. Ticket count is almost even between the two, and the parlay activity is in favor of the Bills at a 5-to-1 clip. It's still not enough to offset the sharp play on the Niners, who have seen eight times as much straight-bet money and will likely be favored for the first time since Week 5.(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Report: McCoy expected to start for injured Jones vs. Seahawks
The expectation is veteran quarterback Colt McCoy will get the start for the New York Giants against the Seattle Seahawks as Daniel Jones continues to nurse a hamstring injury, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.Jones sustained the injury in last Sunday's victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.McCoy came on in relief and completed 6 of 10 passes for 31 yards. The Giants also promoted quarterback Clayton Thorson from the practice squad for Sunday's game.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sherman: Re-signing with 49ers 'not looking likely'
Richard Sherman believes his time with the San Francisco 49ers may be coming to an end.Sherman is in the final season of his three-year contract with the team, and though he'd like to remain with the 49ers, the 32-year-old - who acted as his own agent when he hit free agency in 2018 - said negotiations suggest a likely end to his tenure with San Francisco."We've had brief conversations. I think that there's obviously a want from both sides to come back and make this work. Unfortunately, I don't know that the circumstances will allow it," Sherman said, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.He added: "I've enjoyed my time. I've loved every minute of it. And I wish we could continue it for a couple more years, but it's not looking likely."Sherman is still a difference-maker when he's on the field. He allowed just one touchdown against him in each of 2018 and 2019, and his Pro Bowl 2019 campaign coincided with the 49ers' trip to the Super Bowl. However, he's appeared in just two contests this season. He returned last week from a nine-game absence due to a calf injury. The long list of injuries the 49ers have dealt with this campaign is matched only by the list of impending free agents they have in 2021."There are a ton of guys that need to be paid and are coming up," Sherman said. "Fred Warner is coming up. There are, like, 40 free agents who need to be re-signed. At the end of the day, they have to do what's best for the majority, for the team."And I got to understand that. And so the numbers are adding up to that I won't be here, unless something miraculous happens, which would be really cool."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Bryant holds no ill will toward Cowboys: 'Water under the bridge'
There will be no bad blood between Dez Bryant and the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday night.Bryant, now a member of the Baltimore Ravens, is prepared to battle his former team for the first time since the Cowboys released him in 2018 - but he harbors no ill will towards the organization."For the most part, it's water under the bridge," Bryant said, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. "That's two years. I had time to get myself together. You got to go forward with life because life isn't going to wait on you. Time waits on no one. I had to get myself together and move forward."The veteran receiver spent the first eight years of his career in Dallas, recording three 1,000-yard seasons and three Pro Bowl nominations. Bryant also eclipsed double-digit figures in touchdowns on three occasions, including a league-leading 16 receiving touchdowns in 2014.Bryant did not play in 2018 and 2019 following his release before the Ravens added him to their practice squad earlier this campaign. The 32-year-old quickly was elevated before he signed a contract to remain on the active roster, playing in three games thus far.The former first-round receiver is eager to show his former team what he's got left during Tuesday's matchup."It's cool. I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it. A lot of those guys on that team, I know, I'm real good friends with. I think when we line up across from one another, it's going to be fun. Week 13 player prop bets: Allen Robinson feasts on the Lions
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Last week, we were fortunate enough to cash Matt Ryan under 40.5 pass attempts despite him having 28 at the half. Conversely, Aaron Rodgers' longest completion total was set at 39.5 - his long on Sunday was 39.Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches.Week 13 is another loaded card. Here's where we stand on some player props.Tyler Lockett's longest reception under 22.5 yardsLockett's always been the home run hitter in the Seahawks' offense. He began the season with a catch of at least 20 yards in four of six games, then went off for 15 catches, 200 yards, and three touchdowns against the Cardinals in Week 7.However, he's slowly morphing into the No. 2 option behind D.K. Metcalf, with only one catch of 20-plus yards in his last five.Metcalf is eating up targets, quarterback Russell Wilson isn't cooking like his normal self, and Seattle's offense, in general, hasn't been as potent as it was earlier in the season. So, look for another so-so stat line from Lockett, who faces a Giants defense that ranks No. 3 in explosive pass rate allowed this season.Corey Davis over 57.5 receiving yardsDavis is finally starting to look like the player who the Titans drafted in the first round three years ago. The wide receiver's on his way to a breakout season, and the train will keep moving Sunday against the Browns.Cleveland's defense gets too much hype for a unit that ranks just 23rd in the NFL in DVOA pass defense and 20th against the rush. The Browns are also down a couple of bodies in the secondary, which will give quarterback Ryan Tannehill some favorable matchups when he has to air it out.Outside of getting shut out in Week 9 against the Bears, Davis has at least 67 yards in each of his last four.Allen Robinson over 70.5 receiving yardsSpeaking of the Bears, we'll make a play on Robinson. Chicago's had negative stability under center, but the veteran receiver is still enjoying a monster year. He has at least four catches, 70 yards, or a touchdown in nine straight games for one of the league's worst offenses.Robinson went off for 74 yards in the previous meeting against the Lions, who rank No. 30 in explosive pass rate and No. 26 in pass yards allowed per game this year.As a member of the Bears, Robinson has crushed this total in four of five meetings against Detroit.Nelson Agholor over 42.5 receiving yardsFew players have improved more from last season than Agholor. In his first year with the Raiders, the receiver has already piled up 29 catches for 496 yards and six scores.Agholor and the Raiders' offense will explode Sunday against the Jets. Las Vegas is a sizable favorite and the market's expecting roughly seven touchdowns. New York's defense is also No. 23 in explosive pass rate and No. 20 in yards per completion allowed. It may only take a couple of catches for Agholor to surpass this number.Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. NFL Week 13 best bets: Fade the Bears, Texans in bad matchups
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We're feeling good after another 2-1 week heading into Week 13, which features a few questionable prices on bad teams. Here are my best bets for this week.Lions @ Bears (-3, 45), 1 p.m. ETI get why this line prices these teams as essentially equal, but good luck convincing me that's the case on Sunday. The Lions enter this week with a new head coach in Darrell Bevell after two-and-a-half years of Matt Patricia blowing a lead in every other game. The Bears, meanwhile, may need their own coaching change after Matt Nagy called out the effort of his players. He had reason to following Chicago's 16-point loss to the Packers that featured clear lapses on both sides of the ball. The Bears' defense is the only reason to ever bet on them, as their offense is worse than nearly every unit in the league, aside from the Jets' group. There's simply nothing to get on board with after the level of defense Chicago played last week, especially if Allen Robinson isn't at full strength.Teams replacing unpopular coaches have experienced an instant jolt over the past two seasons, and Patricia certainly qualifies for that label. If Bevell can inject some life into his offense, this game won't be close.Pick: Lions +3Colts (-3, 51) @ Texans, 1 p.m.It feels like I'm either betting on or against the Colts every week, depending on the matchup. This is clearly a spot to back them against a shorthanded Texans team in an unfamiliar situation.Houston's splits with and without Will Fuller have been alarming since he came into the league in 2016, although at least Deshaun Watson could target DeAndre Hopkins in many of those games. Now, with Fuller suspended and Hopkins gone, Brandin Cooks and a rotation of also-ran receivers will be trying to break through against the Colts' fifth-ranked pass defense. I'm not buying it.Indianapolis is drawing 100 times as much money at theScore Bet despite a narrow advantage in tickets, suggesting people are going all-in on the Colts in this spot. I am, too, as Indianapolis has held serve against the NFL's top clubs in recent weeks, and the Colts shouldn't struggle with their division rival.Pick: Colts -3Jaguars @ Vikings (-10, 52), 1 p.m.Something about these Jaguars has me hooked. Aside from a blowout loss to the undefeated Steelers, Jacksonville has been defeated by a combined eight points against the Texans, Packers, and Browns since a Week 8 bye, and its offense finally showed some bite with Mike Glennon at the helm. The market was too quick to jump off the Vikings following their 1-5 start, but now it's too quick to jump back on them after a mostly uninspiring stretch featuring tight wins over the Bears and Panthers, and a loss to the hapless Cowboys. Dalvin Cook is clearly playing through pain, too, which isn't what I'd want to see if I'm laying the points this weekend. The Vikings are 0-3-3 against the spread in their last six games laying double digits, and they simply aren't built to blow teams out in a traditional sense. The Jags probably don't possess the firepower to pull off the outright upset, but this one should be close.Pick: Jaguars +10(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Falcons' Julio, Gurley questionable vs. Saints
The Atlanta Falcons on Friday listed wide receiver Julio Jones and running back Todd Gurley as questionable for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.Jones has been bothered by a hamstring injury, while Gurley is dealing with a knee issue. Both players practiced in a limited capacity Friday after missing the Falcons' previous game against the Las Vegas Raiders.Jones, 31, has looked dominant when healthy this season, but injuries have sidelined him for three games. The seven-time Pro Bowler has totaled 677 receiving yards in 2020, and his 77.6 catch percentage would stand as a career high.Gurley has been Atlanta's lead rusher this season, accumulating 610 yards on the ground and nine touchdowns. But the 26-year-old has struggled with consistency, averaging under three yards per carry in five contests this year. The Falcons started the season 0-5 but have caught fire recently, winning four of their last six contests. Atlanta is looking to close the campaign on a strong note under interim head coach Raheem Morris.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Raiders rule Josh Jacobs out vs. Jets
Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden announced Friday that running back Josh Jacobs will miss Sunday's game against the New York Jets, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Jacobs suffered an ankle sprain in last week's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, but the Raiders were initially hopeful he wouldn't miss game action. Gruden also ruled out safety Johnathan Abram with a knee injury Friday. The second-year tailback was hurt late against Atlanta during an ankle tackle to end a run and hadn't participated in practice all week.Devontae Booker will take over the team's primary backfield role. Booker has been effective when called upon this season, averaging 5.5 yards per carry and scoring three touchdowns in limited action.Jacobs has racked up 782 yards and nine touchdowns on 206 carries this season. He's also caught 25 passes for 175 yards.Vegas sits just outside the AFC playoff picture at 6-5 following last Sunday's defeat.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Giants' Jones doubtful to play vs. Seahawks
The NFC East-leading New York Giants will likely have to find a way to beat the Seattle Seahawks without their starting quarterback after listing Daniel Jones as doubtful for Sunday's contest due to a hamstring injury.Colt McCoy is expected to start for New York if Jones is sidelined.Jones, 23, suffered the injury in Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals and was replaced by McCoy. The 34-year-old completed 6 of 10 passes for 31 yards in relief of Jones. The sixth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, Jones is in the midst of an inconsistent season. The signal-caller has thrown for more interceptions (nine) than touchdowns (eight) on the year but hasn't thrown an interception in his last three games. Jones is also the Giants' leading rusher with 403 yards on the ground, a testament to the team's offensive struggles.McCoy, a 10-year NFL veteran, has made just 28 career starts and owns a 7-21 record. He's also tossed 29 career touchdowns to 27 interceptions. The 4-7 Giants sit first in the NFC East due to a tiebreaker over Washington, but the division remains wide-open with the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys still in the mix.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Group of Michigan legislators ask Lions owner to hire Robert Saleh as HC
It appears Robert Saleh has a small political backing to lead an NFL squad.A group of Michigan legislators sent a letter to Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp asking her to hire the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator as the team's next head coach."We understand the difficulty of these upcoming decisions," they wrote, according to the letter ESPN's Michael Rothstein obtained. "As passionate and loyal Lions fans, we are asking you to hire Robert Saleh as the head coach of our team. ... A head coach like Robert can bring tremendous energy and heart to the franchise and would help us reach peaks that have seemed unobtainable for so long. We have an exceptional opportunity here and we trust you to make the best decision."To turn the corner and become a winning franchise, these next hiring decisions are critical. We hope that you will consider Robert Saleh as the head coach, not only for us, but for everyone across the loyal fan base of our beloved Detroit Lions."Rep. Abdullah Hammoud and his staff authored the letter. It also thanked Hamp for firing general manager Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia last week.Saleh hails from Dearborn, Mich., and he played college football at Northern Michigan. He's led the 49ers' defense since 2017.Despite dealing with a number of injuries in 2020, San Francisco ranks sixth league-wide in total defense. Saleh's unit ranked second last season, and it played a major role in the franchise reaching the Super Bowl.Patricia was relieved of his duties after amassing a 13-29-1 record in two-plus campaigns.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Colts activate Buckner off COVID-19 list
The Indianapolis Colts have activated defensive tackle DeForest Buckner off the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced Friday.Buckner tested positive for the coronavirus last week and missed the Colts' pivotal AFC South matchup against the Tennessee Titans as a result. The interior rusher is now eligible to play in Week 13 versus the Houston Texans.Buckner, 26, is in the midst of a strong campaign and should be in contention for All-Pro honors. He's amassed 41 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery through 10 games in 2020.Indianapolis was also missing versatile lineman Denico Autry last week after he was deemed a close contact, but the team activated him from the COVID-19 list Thursday. The Colts sit second in the AFC South at 7-4 and currently occupy the conference's final wild-card spot.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL's approach to COVID-19 last week laid bare its priorities
Give the NFL credit for being so transparent about its cynicism.Last weekend, as the Broncos were forced to play the Saints without a quarterback, and before the Ravens' junior-varsity matchup at the Steelers' varsity squad had been finalized as a midweek after-school special, the league made an all-out push to remind the world of its pandemic priorities."On Sunday," NBC's Peter King wrote, "the NFL began emphasizing with its media partners a memo sent from Roger Goodell to teams on Oct. 13 that said, basically, that the league would play games if enough warm bodies were available to fill the uniforms and an internal-team contagion wasn’t in progress."Sure enough, a casual stroll through NFL media Twitter revealed multiple references to that mid-October memo, which stated things as plainly as King described. After leading with some quick boilerplate about health and safety, Goodell's memo cut right to the chase:
Report: Eagles' Pederson has given up some play-calling duties to assistants
The Philadelphia Eagles have been getting creative in an attempt to fix their struggling offense.Head coach Doug Pederson has given up some of his offensive play-calling duties to assistants in recent games, sources told Jeff McLane of The Inquirer.Philadelphia's passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Press Taylor has called plays on multiple occasions recently and could be given more responsibility moving forward, McLane adds. The 3-7-1 Eagles are currently on a three-game skid and haven't scored more than 17 points since Week 8. Overall, the team is averaging 21.5 points per game and 4.9 yards per play, ranking 25th and 29th in the NFL, respectively.Meanwhile, quarterback Carson Wentz is completing just 58.1% of his pass attempts for 16 touchdowns against a league-high 15 interceptions. Pederson said earlier this week he won't bench Wentz at the moment.Senior offensive assistant Rich Scangarello has been responsible for calling plays in two-minute situations since the beginning of the season. Elway: 'No one more disappointed' about Broncos' COVID-19 issues than Lock
Denver Broncos general manager John Elway is proud of how starting quarterback Drew Lock handled his COVID-19 protocol infraction last week.Lock, Blake Bortles, and Brett Rypien didn't wear masks properly during team meetings and were deemed high-risk close contacts to fellow signal-caller Jeff Driskel, who tested positive for the virus. The Broncos were forced to play against the New Orleans Saints last Sunday with undrafted rookie wide receiver Kendall Hinton at quarterback as a result."I think that (Lock) has done a nice job in the way that he's answered all the questions, and obviously there's probably no one more disappointed about it than him, as well as all the quarterbacks," Elway said, according to Denverbroncos.com's Ben Swanson. "So they realize that the situation that they didn't handle right, it cost not only them, but it cost … our football team, too. I think that's punishment enough for those guys. They realize that, and hopefully we can put that behind us and come out and play better this week."The Broncos fined all three signal-callers, and Lock apologized for the situation.Hinton struggled against the Saints, completing just one pass in a 31-3 loss. Despite the timid performance, Elway praised the first-year player's effort."He went in there and competed," Elway said. "… From the practice squad to the starting quarterback had to be probably a bigger jump than anybody's ever made, knowing especially 24 hours before we play. So he did a tremendous job and competed and did the best he could."The 4-7 Broncos have lost three of their last four games, and bouncing back in Week 13 won't be easy as they face the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.A loss to Kansas City will mark the fourth consecutive campaign at .500 or below for Denver.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Patriots' Newton: 'I have yet to play my best football'
Cam Newton believes fans haven't seen his potential this season."I think what drives me is knowing I have yet to play my best football," the New England Patriots quarterback said Thursday, according to Zack Cox of NESN.Newton was named MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 after throwing for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns while leading the Carolina Panthers to a 15-1 record. He also rushed for 636 yards and 10 scores that season. However, the three-time Pro Bowler hasn't been able to replicate that production and after battling multiple injuries over the last two years, he was released by Carolina in the offseason.Newton remains optimistic he'll get his game back on track."Have I done it consistently? Not to my liking. But I'm getting there. It's just a learning curve. It's just learning every day," he said.Newton was held to 84 passing yards and had two interceptions for his lowest passer rating (23.6) of the season against the Arizona Cardinals last week.In his first year with the Patriots, the 31-year-old has thrown for four touchdowns against nine interceptions through 10 games. He's done a better job on the ground, racking up 387 yards and nine scores, but hasn't run for a touchdown since Week 10.Newton will try to end that scoring drought against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The signal-caller has been limited at practice this week due to an abdomen injury but said he "will be (ready to play)," per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. The 5-6 Patriots, winners of three of their last four games, currently have a 13% chance of making the playoffs, according to FiveThirtyEight.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL reinstating Seahawks' Gordon
The Seattle Seahawks just added another weapon to an already explosive offense. The NFL is reinstating Seahawks wide receiver Josh Gordon, the league announced in a statement that NFL Network's Tom Pelissero obtained.Gordon, who was indefinitely suspended for violating the league's policy on substance abuse and performance-enhancing drugs, will be eligible to return for the last two games of the season. The 29-year-old has experienced trouble staying on the field, previously missing two seasons and portions of other campaigns due to suspensions. But he's produced when given the opportunity.Gordon led the league in receiving yards (1,646) in 2013, and he put up 426 yards last season with the Seahawks and New England Patriots.Russell Wilson will now have three talented receivers to target during the stretch run, with Gordon slotting in alongside Tyler Lockett and rising star DK Metcalf.Metcalf leads the league with 1,039 receiving yards this year, while Lockett has contributed 771 yards. Both pass-catchers also rank in the top 10 in receiving touchdowns. The 8-3 Seahawks are in the driver's seat in the NFC West, and they field the league's third highest-scoring offense.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jets' Gase: I haven't done enough to develop Darnold
New York Jets head coach Adam Gase says he hasn't done enough to help Sam Darnold reach the next level.“We need to do things well around him, but at the same time, it’s on me to get him to play better than what he’s played. I haven’t done a good enough job," Gase said, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.Gase, who previously served as Peyton Manning's offensive coordinator, noted he was brought to New York to develop the third-year quarterback, but the sideline boss hasn't met his end of the bargain."I came here to help him develop his career. ... We haven’t been able to do that," Gase added, according to The Athletic's Connor Hughes. The young signal-caller addressed Gase's comments and shouldered the blame for his poor play."I take full responsibility for the way I’ve played. I haven’t played well enough," Darnold said. "We have great people in this organization. With that being said, everyone is going to take blame for certain parts of us not winning.”Darnold has taken a major step backward in 2020, his second season under Gase. The 23-year-old has thrown just three touchdown passes to go along with eight interceptions. His 64.0 passer rating would also be a career-low.Gase has failed to impress overall during his time in New York, posting a 7-20 record. The Jets also field the 32nd-ranked offense in terms of yardage after finishing last in 2019.New York is the NFL's only winless team, putting the Jets in position to potentially hold the No. 1 pick in next year's draft. Teams playing in a revenge spot within two weeks of losing the first contest are now 24-8-1 against the spread in the last 33 tries, including 13-2 ATS since 2015. Underdogs coming off a win of at least 35 points, as Atlanta is this week, are also 14-5 ATS since 2008.Trend play: Falcons +3Browns @ Titans (-6, 54), 1 p.m.The Browns are surging back into the playoff race ahead of this week's matchup with the Titans but you wouldn't know it based on their 1-5 ATS record since Week 6. Cleveland is also 1-4 ATS this year on the road and 1-6 ATS in its last seven games as underdogs, averaging a scoring margin of -16.3 points in those seven contests.Trend play: Titans -6Rams (-3, 48.5) @ Cardinals, 4:05 p.m.The Cardinals have one of the league's most explosive offenses but the trends suggest they'll have a tough time putting up points on Sunday. The Rams are 8-3 to the under this year - best in the NFL - and have held their last eight opponents to 18 points per game amid a 7-1 under run. Barkley: 'No doubt' I'm going to be the same player after knee injury
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley believes he'll be the same dynamic rusher upon his return from knee surgery."No doubt in my mind," Barkley told reporters Thursday.Barkley, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL earlier this season, says he avoided the worst-case scenario with his injury."They didn't do an MCL repair, they were able to save my meniscus. My MCL healed on its own. The likelihood of me coming back to 100%, what they're saying, is it's kind of all on how you attack it," Barkley said. The 23-year-old credited Adrian Peterson - who rushed for 2,097 yards after returning from a similar injury in 2012 - for helping him during his recovery."Someone who's really important to me would be AP. Obviously, when you hear this injury, the first person that comes to your mind is the season that AP had," the third-year pro said.Barkley continued: "He put me in contact with his trainer, I was able to ask him a lot of questions. Also, I think the day before surgery, I got to chat with AP for a very long time."Although Barkley is eligible to receive a contract extension this offseason, he has no interest in discussing money at the moment."I don't really focus on it. Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We returned to winning ways last week, and the extra points were necessary.Let's keep it going into Week 13.Lions at Bears, 1 p.m. ET on Dec. 6Line: Lions +3Teaser line: Lions +9Ah, the old we-just-fired-our-coach-and-GM game. Expect quite a response from the Lions here after Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn were relieved of their duties over the weekend. In both previous instances this season of a team firing its head coach, those squads won the next game in convincing fashion, with the 0-4 Texans beating the Jaguars 30-14, and the 0-5 Falcons beating the Vikings 40-23.The Lions are coming off a pair of brutal losses, but reinforcements are arriving in the form of D'Andre Swift and Danny Amendola after they both missed the last two weeks. This game looks like it will come too soon for Kenny Golladay, though. Still, Detroit's offense can be very effective when mostly healthy, and I expect interim head coach Darrell Bevell - promoted from offensive coordinator - to unleash a few tricks to begin his first head coaching opportunity after nearly 20 NFL seasons. On the opposite sideline, the Bears' offense is anything but effective, and frustration has reached a boiling point. It's glaringly obvious that head coach Matt Nagy has no faith in Mitch Trubisky, and it'll be interesting to see how the team responds to his comments about lacking "personal pride." Nagy's diatribe encapsulates this club's dysfunction, rather than being a rallying cry that will prompt a late-season surge.Saints at Falcons, 1 p.m. on Dec. 6Line: Falcons +3Teaser line: Falcons +9Winning is all that matters, and while the Saints have done so convincingly in two games without Drew Brees, their Taysom Hill-led offense is still far too one dimensional. Alvin Kamara simply hasn't been a factor without Brees under center, and the threat of Michael Thomas is mitigated with Hill at the helm.If the Falcons stop the run-pass option, they'll be successful in this game. That's a lot easier to do with some tape to study. There was nothing for Atlanta to go off when these teams met two weeks ago, with Hill making his first career start. It's incredibly difficult to beat the same team twice in the NFL in such a short span, which is the situation the Saints face. The Titans, for example, thrashed the Colts in Week 12 just 17 days after the same matchup easily went the other way in Tennessee. The Falcons have been playing considerably better overall under interim head coach Raheem Morris, and I'm putting the Saints on upset watch Sunday.Full teaser: Lions +9, Falcons +9 ($110 to win $100)(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Moretto is theScore's supervising editor of sports betting. Dolphins' Tua to be game-time decision vs. Bengals
Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores kept his cards close to his chest when asked about Tua Tagovailoa's availability for Sunday's game."We’ll take it one day at a time and see how it progresses throughout the week," Flores said Thursday, according to Safid Dean of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We’ll make a decision Sunday."The rookie quarterback missed Week 12 due to a thumb injury on his throwing hand, resulting in Ryan Fitzpatrick starting again.Fitzpatrick shined in his first start since Week 6, throwing for 257 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions during a 20-3 victory over the New York Jets. However, Flores has made it clear Tagovailoa will be the team's starter if healthy. The second-year head coach says all of his decisions come with the club's best interest in mind, and the signal-caller's injury could affect his choice.“I think there’s a lot that goes into that decision: What’s best for the player? What’s best for the team? What we need to do, what we need to be able to do to try to win a ball game. I think all those things are at the top of the priority list when thinking about who can play and who can’t, really at any position,” Flores said.Tagovailoa has compiled a 3-1 record since being announced as Miami's starting quarterback during the team's bye week. He's protected the ball, throwing for six touchdowns with no interceptions, but Tagovailoa hasn't been aggressive downfield. Report: Ravens', Steelers' tests from Wednesday all come back negative
All of Wednesday's PCR COVID-19 tests for the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers came back with negative results, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Wednesday afternoon's game, a 19-14 Steelers win, was postponed three times due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the Ravens that led to both players and staff being placed in isolation. At its peak, the Ravens had over 20 players on the COVID-19/reserve list, including starting quarterback Lamar Jackson. On Tuesday, Baltimore reported two more positive test results from safety Geno Stone and a staff member. However, no high-risk close contacts were identified in either case.Prior to Wednesday's contest, Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey landed on the team's COVID-19 list. Pittsburgh defensive end Stephon Tuitt and running back James Conner had previously been placed on the list as well. The Ravens' next game is Dec. 8 against the Dallas Cowboys. Harbaugh discusses Ravens' outbreak: Nobody is 'batting a thousand'
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh addressed the COVID-19 outbreak within the organization that forced the team's Week 12 game to be postponed on multiple occasions. The divisional battle with the Pittsburgh Steelers was finally played on Wednesday after a week in which more than 20 Ravens hit the COVID-19 list. However, the coach believes his team followed the league's protocols as best they could."I think everybody did their best. We didn't bat a thousand, nobody did. Nobody does, all around the country, around the world. You're not batting a thousand against this thing," Harbaugh said in his postgame press conference. "It's not the time to take an accusatory stance. That's not the position that I would take. I take the position that our guys fought like crazy and I'm proud of what they did."It remains to be seen whether the Ravens will face discipline from the league for an outbreak that resulted in the postponement of its marquee Thanksgiving Day game. The Tennessee Titans were not heavily reprimanded for an outbreak early in the season. However, the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints were reportedly fined and stripped of a draft pick for violations of the league's COVID-19 protocols.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Mike Tomlin sounded more like a head coach who lost than one who had triumphed after the Pittsburgh Steelers scraped out a 19-14 victory Wednesday over the Baltimore Ravens."To be bluntly honest, I'm really disappointed in our performance tonight," Tomlin said postgame. "We did enough to win, but that's all. It was really junior varsity, to be quite honest with you, and it was in all three phases."We couldn't run the ball effectively when we needed to, we dropped too many significant passes - very catchable, makeable passes - we didn't make significant plays in the special teams game, our kickoff coverage unit wasn't good enough, we turned the damn ball over, we gave up big plays in critical moments on defense. Can't have it. They converted a long run on a possession down before the half - unacceptable."Though they led for most of the game, the Steelers allowed their division rivals to hang around all afternoon thanks to a number of miscues. The errors began on the Steelers' second offensive series when Ben Roethlisberger threw an end-zone interception on fourth down from the 1-yard line.Among other problems, the Steelers scored only one touchdown on four red-zone trips, and drops - officially, five of them - plagued them in the passing game all day. Asked about the reason for the issues, Tomlin kept his answer short."Us sucking," he said.Roethlisberger, who was efficient from the pocket after his early blunder, was also frustrated with the performance."We won today, but it sure doesn't feel like it," he said. "Just not good football."Still, the Steelers became the first team since the 2015 Carolina Panthers to begin a season with 11 consecutive victories. They'll look to make it 12 straight Monday against the Washington Football Team.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
