Jerry Jones: Cowboys don't have leadership void
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones refused to chalk up his team's struggles to a lack of leadership during a Tuesday appearance on a local radio station."Where would you have a leadership void? Is it an experience void? Is it a talent void? I'm not trying to be cute here. The answer is no," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.The Cowboys have failed to live up to expectations through seven games, stumbling to a 2-5 record under new head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy has seemingly struggled to win over the locker room, and two players anonymously blasted him and his staff after a Week 6 blowout loss."When I go into the locker room, I don't see a leadership void," Jones said. The Cowboys fell 25-3 in Week 7 to the Washington Football Team, which hadn't tasted victory since the season opener. Along with the game, they lost quarterback Andy Dalton, who was concussed on a dirty hit.McCarthy admitted afterward he was disappointed in the lack of response from Dalton's teammates. Dalton joined Dak Prescott and a slew of offensive linemen on the injured list."We have almost 45% of our salary cap that isn't on the field," Jones said. "We have it in critical areas that we counted on - that offensive line and the running game was going to be the strength of what we have. We knew going in, you better be careful counting on your top quarterback being a running threat because what? He'll get hurt."Despite the poor start, Jones is still confident in McCarthy, a former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers. Dallas selected McCarthy in January as the replacement for Jason Garrett, who served as the head coach for a decade.Entering a pivotal Week 8 contest with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys rank last in points allowed per game and own the worst turnover differential in the NFL."We wanted someone that in case the you-know-what hit the fan had the credibility and had the (ability) to do what? To stand tall and strong as head coach," Jones said. "And he's doing that."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Report: Jets eye trade of former No. 3 pick Quinnen Williams
The New York Jets are looking to move Quinnen Williams before the Nov. 3 trade deadline, a year after drafting the defensive tackle third overall, sources told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. The Jets are reportedly willing to pull the trigger on a deal that doesn't net them a first-round pick in return, though they would seek multiple picks if one selection is in the second round.Williams was the third player chosen in the 2019 draft behind Kyler Murray and Nick Bosa. He was slowed by injuries in his rookie year, but he has looked more like the player the Jets envisioned this season, with 28 tackles and three sacks through seven games. The Jets appear to be embarking on another full-scale rebuild, as they moved star safety Jamal Adams for multiple first-round picks before the season and released high-priced running back Le'Veon Bell in mid-October. New York is the only winless team in the NFL entering Week 8.Jets general manager Joe Douglas was hired about a month after Williams was selected by predecessor Mike Maccagnan.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Rams dominate matchup of tough defenses, beat Bears
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Josh Reynolds and Gerald Everett caught touchdown passes from Jared Goff, and the Los Angeles Rams won a matchup of dominant defenses, beating the Chicago Bears 24-10 on Monday night.Goff passed for 219 yards and Malcolm Brown rushed for a score for the Rams (5-2), who remained unbeaten at brand-new SoFi Stadium and reasserted themselves as NFC contenders with a rebound performance one week after a rough loss at San Francisco.Taylor Rapp made an end-zone interception on a pass deflection by Troy Hill while the Rams held Chicago (5-2) to 182 yards in the first three quarters and built a 24-3 lead.Eddie Jackson returned a fumble 8 yards for Chicago’s only touchdown with 7:30 to play, but Los Angeles’ defense stayed in control, yielding 279 total yards and three points. The Rams have won twice in three defense-dominated games between these longtime rivals over the past three seasons.Nick Foles passed for 261 yards for the Bears, who dropped out of the NFC North lead and fell to 3-1 on the road with their latest discouraging offensive performance. Chicago managed just 49 yards rushing and has 175 yards on the ground in the past four games. The Rams’ defense, now coordinated by former Bears outside linebackers coach Brandon Staley, sacked Foles four times and picked off two of his passes, including Jalen Ramsey’s first interception of the season near midfield to clinch the victory with 3:13 to play.Even punter Johnny Hekker dominated the Bears, pinning them inside their 10 with all five of his punts in a superb performance by the four-time Pro Bowler. The Rams led 10-3 at halftime after holding the Bears to 126 yards. Reynolds made his 4-yard TD reception on the second drive for just the second scoring catch by a wide receiver against Chicago’s stingy secondary all season, but the Bears stopped two additional drives just outside field goal range to keep the deficit manageable. The Rams went up 17-3 midway through the third quarter on a TD drive capped by Brown’s 1-yard run.Chicago mounted its best drive immediately thereafter, but its 71-yard march ended when Hill deflected a pass intended for Darnell Mooney in the end zone and Rapp snagged it for an interception. The Rams followed with a crisp 80-yard drive capped by a 12-yard TD catch-and-run by Everett, their big-play tight end.Chicago got to the Rams 4 with just over nine minutes to play, but Aaron Donald flushed Foles from the pocket and into Justin Hollins’ arms for a fourth-down sack.Robert Woods fumbled three plays later on a jet sweep, and Jackson returned it for the sixth defensive touchdown of his four-year career.REUNION GAMELeonard Floyd had two sacks and six tackles in his first game against Chicago since the Bears released him last offseason. After his sack, Floyd jumped up and went toward the Bears sideline, shouting and gesticulating.INJURY REPORTBears: C Cody Whitehair injured his calf in the second half.Rams: Rookie S Terrell Burgess was taken off the field on a cart in the fourth quarter with an air cast around his left leg. 49ers' Wilson headed to IR, Samuel could miss multiple games
The injury woes continue for the San Francisco 49ers.Head coach Kyle Shanahan has revealed running back Jeff Wilson Jr. will head to injured reserve due to an ankle injury while receiver Deebo Samuel's hamstring issue will force him to miss this Sunday's game and potentially the following week's matchup, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Both players were injured during the team's Week 7 contest against the New England Patriots and didn't return.Wilson was in the midst of a dominant performance against the Patriots, rushing for 112 yards and three scores, before he injured his ankle on his third touchdown. The tailback managed to make it to the sideline but needed a cart to get to the locker room.Wilson joins rushers Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert on IR but Shanahan notes Coleman may return this week, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows.Samuel's hamstring injury is just the latest ailment he has battled this season after also missing the first month of the season due to a broken foot. The 49ers will take on the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday and then have a short week to prepare for the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football in Week 9.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Cowboys open to trading pass-rusher Everson Griffen
The Dallas Cowboys reportedly have made other teams aware that pass-rusher Everson Griffen is available for trade, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Griffen signed a one-year, $6-million deal with the Cowboys in the offseason after opting out of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings earlier in the year.Any team acquiring the veteran pass-rusher would be on the books for the remainder of his salary, which rounds out to be about $3 million, Rapoport adds.A four-time Pro Bowler, Griffen was expected to help Dallas' pass rush, but he hasn't put together his best body of work. He's recorded just 2.5 sacks through seven games this season. The Cowboys have struggled this year, and their latest loss to the Washington Football Team dropped their record to 2-5. Dallas has had trouble stopping opposing offenses as their defense has allowed 243 points this season, most in the NFL.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Crennel doesn't want Texans to be sellers: 'I'm trying to win games'
Interim head coach Romeo Crennel wants to keep his Houston Texans roster together past the Nov. 3 trade deadline despite rumors swirling that the team could be sellers."Like I told the players, I'm trying to win games, and I'm not trying to trade players," Crennel said, according to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports. "So, I want to keep as many good players as I can."Roster decisions won't be completely up to Crennel, as Jack Easterby - who is currently handling the club's GM duties - and others will also be involved in the process."They'll come to me and we'll sit down and we'll make a decision about what we think is best for the team," he said. "I've been informed of some possibilities but nothing definite right now."Houston is currently tied for last place in the AFC South with a 1-6 record. Without a first- or second-round pick, the Texans could opt to replenish their draft capital at the deadline. While they could be in a position to sell, Crennel won't let other teams take advantage of the Texans' poor start."I know the record doesn't say that we are very good, and we are what the record says we are, but we do have some talent," Crennel added. "I think other teams realize that and they would like to get their hands on it. But most of the time in this situation, they're offering peanuts and not offering legitimate trade value."If the Texans do intend to sell this year, Will Fuller, Brandin Cooks, and Whitney Mercilus could be players that other teams target. Mercilus has recorded three sacks, while Fuller and Cooks have each contributed over 400 receiving yards this season.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: Seahawks' Carson week-to-week with foot sprain
Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson is considered week-to-week with a mid-foot sprain, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Carson exited Sunday night's loss to the Arizona Cardinals before halftime and did not return. He left having carried the ball just five times for 34 yards.Veteran Carlos Hyde took over in the backfield with 15 rushes for 68 yards and a touchdown, but quarterback Russell Wilson was the Seahawks' lead rusher on the night with 84 yards.Hyde will assume the mantle as lead back with Travis Homer backing him up until Carson returns.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Panthers hope to have McCaffrey back for TNF
The Carolina Panthers are holding out hope that star running back Christian McCaffrey can make his return from injury in time for Thursday's game against the Atlanta Falcons."It's a possibility," head coach Matt Rhule said Monday. "That's sort of out of my hands. I'm hopeful that we'll have him."McCaffrey is also pushing to play Thursday, but he's still considered a longshot to suit up, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.McCaffrey, who's been on injured reserve since suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 2, will reportedly return to practice this week and see if he can progress enough to play in the NFC South showdown. He was apparently given a return timetable of four-to-six weeks.Rhule said McCaffrey would return only when doctors and trainers clear him. But he hasn't considered holding the star back to give him another 10 days of rest."If you know Christian, he wants to play," Rhule said. "As soon as he is ready to go, he will go."Veteran backup Mike Davis has performed solidly in McCaffrey's absence, but the New Orleans Saints held the rusher to just 12 yards on seven carries in Sunday's 27-24 loss. The Panthers have stayed in the hunt for a playoff spot despite losing their star offensive weapon, winning three of their last five games. The All-Pro racked up 156 rushing yards and four total touchdowns before his injury.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Cardinals' Drake to miss time with slight ligament tear in ankle
The Arizona Cardinals expect to be without running back Kenyan Drake for "a few weeks" due to a slight tear of a ligament in his ankle, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The injury is considered to be on par with a high ankle sprain.Drake suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks and needed a cart to take him to the locker room. The Alabama product had 14 carries for 34 yards at the time of the injury. Drake has 512 rushing yards and four touchdowns through seven games this season.Chase Edmonds will likely take over the primary rushing role. NFL bad line of the week: Fade the Dolphins in Tua's 1st start

Don't let it cloud your judgment when picking this spread. The Rams aren't getting enough support in this spot. Although there's not a ton of film on the rookie Tagovailoa, L.A. should be able to get home with the No. 8 adjusted sack rate in the league. One factor in this tilt is a West Coast team traveling to the East Coast for what will be an early start according to the Rams' body clocks. However, head coach Sean McVay hasn't been fazed in this spot. The offensive guru is 6-1 both straight up and against the spread in seven 1 p.m. starts on the East Coast with the Rams, averaging better than 35 points per game. Los Angeles has scored at least 30 points in all seven situations.Miami's gaining some traction, with three wins over the last four. However, two of those victories came against teams that own a negative figure in net yards per play (Jaguars, minus-0.9; Jets, minus-1.6). The Dolphins are likely headed back down to earth, seeing as they've played the fourth-easiest schedule to date.Miami's a feel-good story after winning just five games last season. But this team doesn't have all the pieces to continue mowing through the schedule. Though Tagovailoa isn't getting a terrible matchup against the league's No. 13 DVOA defense, the Rams will give the rookie some fits along the front with Aaron Donald.I'm content laying the -3.5 here with McVay and the Rams, who have a knack for scoring at least 30 in this spot.Pick: Rams -3.5(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. 5 betting takeaways from NFL Week 7
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Upsets, comebacks, and two of the worse beats of the young NFL season. Week 7 had it all for bettors, and it also helped reveal which teams are worth backing and which have some serious work to do.Here are five betting takeaways from Week 7.Steelers beat Titans to remain lone unbeaten teamAnd then there was one. After waiting three weeks to finally face the undefeated Titans (-1), the Steelers were up for the task, holding off a late rally in a 27-24 win. Pittsburgh scored on five of its first six drives and outgained Tennessee 161 yards to 1 yard early on before withstanding the Titans' inspired comeback bid.If you waited for proof of the Steelers' Super Bowl upside, you might be too late. Only three teams have shorter odds than Pittsburgh (+950), which travels to Baltimore next week for a heavyweight matchup with the Ravens (-4). If the Steelers lose that game, their title odds likely won't falter much. If they win? Good luck buying anytime soon.As for the other undefeated team entering the week? The Seahawks (-3.5) jumped out to an early lead and led all of regulation, but the Cardinals forced overtime and drilled a game-winning field goal in the waning seconds. It was the first time Seattle had lost with a halftime lead of at least four points since Russell Wilson took over in 2012; the team was 59-0 before Sunday. This is the type of loss we can expect from this club with the state of its defense, though it's hard to fault either team for the loss given how wild Sunday night's affair was. The Seahawks were always going to lose eventually; an upcoming stretch against the 49ers, Bills, and Rams could prove whether Seattle's title price (+1000) is worth the investment.Cowboys, Patriots reach new lowsA few weeks ago, it seemed hard to fathom that the Cowboys could have the worst record against the spread at any point this season given the ineptitude in New York. Yet here we are, staring at Dallas' 0-7 ATS mark after an embarrassing 25-3 loss to Washington (-1) that was even uglier than it sounds. The lowlight came in the third quarter when Jon Bostic knocked quarterback Andy Dalton out of the game with a nasty headshot. Dalton had been ineffective up to that point, and backup Ben DiNucci wasn't much better in the Cowboys' worst offensive showing since 2018 and third-worst in 15 years. Best wishes betting this team to win the NFC East (+350); I certainly won't be buying. The Patriots also looked lost in a 33-6 defeat to the 49ers (+3) that made history for all the wrong reasons. It's the team's worst home loss under Bill Belichick and second-worst overall, it's tied for the club's second-lowest scoring output in 14 years, and it marks New England's first three-game losing streak since 2002.The offense is clearly to blame after scoring a combined 28 points over the last three games. Cam Newton was a disaster Sunday with 98 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions, becoming the first Patriot to hit those marks in a game since Steve Grogan in 1983. If Newton can't rediscover his early-season magic, New England's long-shot title price (+3700) is hard to swallow.Late swings foil bettorsApologies to anyone who bet the Browns or Falcons this weekend, but your misfortune was someone else's gain in the most thrilling of ways.Let's start in Cleveland, where the Bengals (+3.5) had seemingly sewn up the game with a last-minute score to take a three-point advantage, only for the Browns to march down the field and recapture the lead with a beautiful toe-tapper by Donovan Peoples-Jones. There was only one problem: Cody Parkey. The kicker infamous for costing the Bears two years ago missed the extra point for Cleveland this time around, devastating those who thought their spread bets were saved by a late score. It's the second time Browns bettors have suffered a bad beat against the Bengals this year, as a meaningless score in the final minute of these teams' Week 2 meeting pulled Cincinnati within five as a six-point underdog.Things were similarly dramatic this week in Atlanta, where the Falcons (-1.5) fittingly blew a game in which they had a 98.7% chance to win, per ESPN Stats & Info. With 1:04 left and his team down by two, Todd Gurley burst through the line and tried to stop short of the end zone to ensure his side could bleed the clock and kick the game-winning field goal.To Falcons spread bettors' delight, Gurley accidentally plunged across the goal line, giving Atlanta a six-point lead and an easy cover. It wouldn't last - the Lions picked apart the Falcons' inept defense and scored as time expired, stunning anyone who bet Atlanta ATS or on the moneyline (-125).Jets finally cover in lossThe losing continues for the 0-7 Jets, but bettors finally had something to smile about Sunday.New York (+9.5) took a 10-6 lead into halftime and, miraculously, held the Bills without a touchdown in an 18-10 defeat. The offense fell apart in the second half, as it's wont to do, but Sunday's effort was a dramatic improvement from New York's six ATS losses to this point.Could this spark a season turnaround for the Jets? It's not likely. The last three teams to start 0-6 ATS and cover in their seventh game went a combined 1-2 ATS the following week. Those three teams finished a collective 10-38 straight up and 14-31-3 ATS.Is home-field advantage dead?Entering this year, many bettors suspected home-field advantage could be mitigated given the lack of fans. That's certainly been the case, and this week was a prime example of how little home-field advantage matters.Home teams went 5-8 ATS this week, bringing their record to 44-56-4 ATS (44%) on the campaign. That would be the second-worst mark by home teams over a full season since at least 1989, while clubs' 52-51-1 SU record (50.5%) at home is already the worst mark in that span.Home teams have had a losing record ATS in each of the last three weeks, and this week's 5-8 SU mark is the worst in any week since this time last year, which was also a historically unfavorable season to home teams. If you're still pricing in a few points on the home side, it might be time to re-evaluate.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Cam knows 'permanent change' is possible if his play doesn't improve
Cam Newton admitted Monday that his job is at risk if he can't correct his recent downward trend of play. The New England Patriots pulled their starting quarterback for the fourth quarter of Sunday's 33-6 blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers after he threw three interceptions and just 98 passing yards. While Patriots head coach Bill Belichick gave Newton a vote of confidence after the game, the former MVP told "The Greg Hill Show" that he needs to move forward with the mindset that he might not return from his next benching."For any type of competitor, do you feel embarrassed? Yeah. I am as honest as I can possibly be right now, but yet it tells you," Newton said, per Ryan Hannable of WEEI. "And the first thing I said to myself coming home, I said, 'You keep playing games like that, bro, and it's going to be a permanent change.'"Belichick said he sat Newton in order to get second-year backup Jarrett Stidham "a little experience."Newton said he agreed with the decision to allow Stidham to finish the game."I'm a realist, but yet through it all, I am coachable," Newton said. "I didn't want to put up a (stink). How bad would that have been? 'I'm not coming out.' That would have been embarrassing. (Belichick) came and said, 'Stidham is finishing,' and I agreed. That's what it was."The Patriots fell to 2-4 with the defeat to the 49ers, which stands as the worst home loss of the Belichick era.Newton impressed during New England's 2-1 start, completing 68.1% of his passes for 714 yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions. He also racked up four scores and 149 yards on the ground. The ex-Carolina Panthers star missed one start after testing positive for COVID-19 and has struggled in the two games since his return, totaling five interceptions to one rushing score."I know I am better than what I am putting on film. And that's simple," Newton said. "I accept any type of personal blaming and dealings and I know there's light at the end of the tunnel. You cannot get to three and four wins without getting to one win and that's everything that we're worried about."The Patriots and Newton will get the chance to rebound and close the gap in the AFC East in a Week 8 showdown with the 5-2 Buffalo Bills.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Beckham out for season with torn ACL
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, the team announced Monday.Beckham went down Sunday in the first quarter while attempting to tackle Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Darius Phillips, who was returning a Baker Mayfield interception. The Browns feared Beckham had suffered a significant injury on the play."The ball to Odell, we knew we were going to have a one-on-one and wanted to give him a chance," Mayfield lamented after the game, which the Browns won. "I didn't do that and left it short and inside. I am probably going to beat myself up about that one for a long time. He is a guy who fights for this team, and in doing that, he got hurt. Prayers and hopes for the best. That one sucks."Beckham will finish his second campaign in Cleveland with 23 receptions for 319 yards and four total touchdowns across seven appearances. He had 74 receptions for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns last year, marking the least productive season of his career outside of 2017, when he played only four games. The Browns acquired Beckham in a blockbuster trade with the New York Giants in March 2019. He will turn 28 on Nov. 5 and is signed through the 2023 season.Beckham is on the books for $15.75 million in 2021, with $12.8 million of it guaranteed for injury.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Bostic headshot not expected to result in suspension
Washington Football Team linebacker Jon Bostic isn't expected to be suspended for the headshot that knocked Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton out of Week 7, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Bostic was ejected Sunday following the hit. Dalton flew back to Dallas with his teammates but had no memory of the play, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
10 takeaways from Week 7
Sunday Rundown recaps the most important developments from the day's action and examines the significance of those events moving forward.Cardinals top Seahawks in thrillerThe Seattle Seahawks looked like they were cruising to a 6-0 start. Russell Wilson threw for 250 yards in a first half that was chock-full of thrilling plays, and Seattle led by 10 with less than seven minutes remaining. And then Sunday Night Football somehow got even better. The Arizona Cardinals took a field goal off the board after an unsportsmanlike penalty gave them 15 yards, and they were in the end zone two plays later. Then, after a Seattle punt, quarterback Kyler Murray led an eight-play drive that included three spikes, with Zane Gonzalez drilling a 44-yard field goal with no time remaining to force overtime.Gonzalez then missed a 41-yard field in OT, but linebacker Isaiah Simmons picked off Wilson, and Murray soon had the Cardinals in field-goal range again. This time, Gonzalez made it from 48 yards out.Seattle is now 5-1 and remains in first place in the NFC West, but the Cardinals are right behind them at 5-2, with Murray serving notice that Arizona is a team to be reckoned with.Dallas is a disaster Abbie Parr / Getty Images Sport / GettyAfter quarterback Dak Prescott got hurt, the Dallas Cowboys figured they had a rough road ahead, even if it was still possible for them to contend in the NFC East - because the NFC East stinks on ice. Two weeks later, the engine has given out, the wheels have fallen off, and Dallas' entire operation is sitting in a ditch - and all that came before Andy Dalton was knocked out of Sunday's humiliating defeat at Washington. You name it, it's a problem for the Cowboys. An injury-riddled, shaky offensive line? Check. Pedestrian production from running back Ezekiel Elliott? Check. A defense that can't stop a waddling toddler? Check.Dallas was already down 22-3 in the third quarter when Dalton took a cheap shot from Jon Bostic and suffered a concussion. Poor Ben DiNucci - a rookie seventh-round quarterback who once transferred to James Madison because he couldn't start for Pitt - replaced Dalton and had the same number of sacks (three) as pass attempts. DiNucci will likely have to start next Sunday at the Philadelphia Eagles. That game is still scheduled for prime time because the world is a cold, dark place. Also, remember when Mike McCarthy told NBC's Peter King about how he had spent his year away from football doing nothing but eating tape and diving into analytics to get back into coaching? Yeah, well ...

49ers drop Patriots to 2-4 with worst home defeat of Belichick era
The San Francisco 49ers handed the New England Patriots a historic 33-6 home loss on Sunday. The Patriots were limited to just 241 total yards and 17 first downs and committed four turnovers. New England never entered the opposing red zone in the game and the 49ers held the team to just 4.9 yards per play overall. The 27-point defeat is now New England's worst home loss of the Bill Belichick era and the head coach's second-largest overall defeat with the squad.Additionally, the Patriots have now suffered three straight losses for the first time since 2002 - their 286 consecutive games without a three-game losing streak is the longest span in NFL history. The loss to San Francisco drops the Patriots to 2-4 this season, putting them more than two games behind the top of the division for the first time since 2000. Report: Titans fined $350K for COVID-19 violations, Raiders could lose draft pick
The Tennessee Titans reportedly received a $350,000 fine for violating the NFL's COVID-19 protocol, and the Las Vegas Raiders may be next to receive punishment, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The Raiders will be fined more than the Titans and possibly lose a draft pick, according to FOX's Jay Glazer.Las Vegas would reportedly face a steeper punishment due to its prior history of failing to abide by protocols. The organization has already been fined multiple times after instances such as head coach Jon Gruden not wearing a mask on the sideline and allowing an unauthorized individual in the locker room. The Raiders are currently under review by the NFL and union after it was reported that offensive lineman Trent Brown failed to consistently wear his contact-tracing device. Members of the offensive line also met in close vicinity without wearing masks. The Titans' violations include instances in which the team failed to wear masks and insufficient communication about workouts outside the facility, Rapoport and Pelissero add.Tennessee won't have any draft picks stripped, nor will any individual from the organization face punishment.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Saints' Thomas could be sidelined through Week 8 with injury
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas won't suit up Sunday against the Carolina Panthers due to a hamstring injury and may be in danger of missing next week's game, too, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The receiver hasn't played since the team's season opener for numerous reasons. A high ankle sprain, suffered in Week 1, kept Thomas sidelined for three games. The talented wideout was then making progress toward a return in Week 5 but was forced to sit out the Saints' tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers after reportedly getting into an altercation with a teammate. A hamstring injury suffered in practice Wednesday is the latest ailment plaguing his 2020 campaign.New Orleans could be in a tough spot moving forward as it's lacking receiving depth. Emmanuel Sanders was placed on the COVID-19 list Friday and will not be available Sunday. His return date is currently unclear.Sitting at 3-2, the Saints are expected to continue to rely on Alvin Kamara in Thomas' absence. Kamara has totaled 676 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns this season.Thomas has become one of the NFL's top receivers. The 27-year-old led the league in receptions (149) and receiving yards (1,725) last year and has been named to three consecutive Pro Bowls.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Brown's deal with Buccaneers worth up to $2.5M
Antonio Brown's one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers carries a maximum value of $2.5 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is expected to officially ink the deal Monday.Brown agreed to sign with the Buccaneers on Friday, though he won't be eligible to play before Week 9. The 32-year-old was suspended eight weeks to open the season for multiple violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy.Brown can earn $1 million in base salary and roster bonuses. He can also secure another $750,000 for a Super Bowl LV victory and has a trio of $250,000 bonuses tied up in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. His performance incentives are contingent on the Buccaneers making the playoffs, according to Schefter. The Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, and Baltimore Ravens were linked to Brown before his agreement with Tampa Bay, which reunites him with quarterback Tom Brady.Brown played alongside Brady for one game with the New England Patriots last year before being released for off-field reasons.A longtime star with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brown ranks 35th in receiving yards on the NFL's all-time leaderboard.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Falcons won't trade Julio Jones, Matt Ryan at deadline
The Atlanta Falcons aren't expected to deal Julio Jones or Matt Ryan at this year's trade deadline, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Atlanta fired head coach Dan Quinn earlier this month, and rumors of a fire sale were prompted with the team off to a 1-5 start.Owner Arthur Blank spoke hopefully of his intentions to keep Ryan in the Falcons' long-term future following the firing."I love Matt," Blank said earlier in October, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. "I hope he's going to be part of our plans going forward, but that won't be a decision I make."Falcons president Rich McKay also noted at the time that the future of the roster would be left up to the club's next regime, stating, "This will not be a situation where we predetermine the roster for the next GM and coach," per MMQB's Albert Breer. Interim head coach Raheem Morris currently leads Atlanta.Ryan's contract features an opt-out after the 2021 season with $26.5 million in dead money, according to Spotrac. The quarterback would cost almost $50 million in dead cap for Atlanta if he were cut before that date.Jones also carries a $23-million cap hit for next season, but the Falcons won't have a potential out on his deal until 2023, at which point the team can cut ties with the receiver for a dead cap hit of $7.75 million, according to Spotrac.Jones and Ryan have been one of the league's most formidable duos over the last number of years. The 31-year-old receiver has recorded 12,475 receiving yards since entering the league in 2011 while Ryan, a four-time Pro Bowler, owns a career record of 110-85.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Jaguars could bench uneven Minshew in Week 7
The Jacksonville Jaguars could bench quarterback Gardner Minshew if he struggles in Week 7 versus the Los Angeles Chargers, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Since opening the season with a three-touchdown performance against the Indianapolis Colts, Minshew has thrown five interceptions in as many weeks. The Jaguars have dropped their last five decisions, sinking them to the bottom of the AFC South standings with a 1-5 record.Minshew entered his sophomore season as the starter on the heels of a solid rookie campaign in which he overtook Nick Foles and developed a cult-like following. In 20 career appearances, the former sixth-round pick has thrown for 4,953 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. If he's demoted, veteran Mike Glennon would likely take his spot. Seahawks-Cardinals betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. After a minor scheduling adjustment this week, the Sunday night game pits the Seahawks (-3.5, 55.5) against the upstart Cardinals, who have blown out the Jets and Cowboys in consecutive weeks. Can Arizona find that same success against its undefeated division rival? Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Sunday night.Betting trendsYou've surely heard it before, but it bears repeating: Since drafting Russell Wilson in 2012, the Seahawks are 21-10-3 against the spread in prime time, including 14-4-2 ATS when favored in that spot. They're also a remarkable 7-0-1 ATS as road favorites dating back to a Week 4 win over the Cardinals a year ago.Since that loss, Arizona is 9-4 ATS as an underdog, including 5-2 ATS when getting five points or fewer. Surprisingly, the Cardinals have only been underdogs in one game this season - an outright win over the 49ers (-7) - but they've gone 4-2 ATS overall with a combined 68-20 scoring margin in their previous two games.Arizona is also 5-1 to the under this year, though its schedule may have something to do with that - the Cardinals' six opponents have combined for 22.1 points per game, which would rank 24th in the league among scoring offenses.Conversely, the Seahawks are 3-1-1 to the over behind the NFL's top-ranked offense (33.8 points per game) and a mediocre scoring defense (27.0 PPG) that ranks dead last in average yards allowed (471.2).Player propsKyler Murray to score a touchdown (+145)Murray has been on a tear this season after rushing for four touchdowns a year ago, reaching the end zone six times through six games with at least one touchdown in five of them. They're not long scampers against unsuspecting defenses, either - his last three touchdowns have all come from inside the 2-yard line, and the other three came within or near the red zone. The Seahawks' defense has allowed three rushing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this year, tied for second-most in the NFL, and their nine sacks are the ninth-fewest in the league. If Seattle can't bring Murray down, watch out.DK Metcalf over 73.5 receiving yards (-110)Two weeks ago, we liked Metcalf to score a touchdown against an overmatched Vikings secondary. Sure enough, he scored twice. This time, we love his yardage total against a Cardinals defense that's struggled to contain the other team's No. 1 option.Four times in the last five weeks, Arizona has allowed its opponent's top receiver - Terry McLaurin (125 yards), Robby Anderson (99), Jamison Crowder (116), and Amari Cooper (79) - to surpass this number with room to spare. Metcalf has at least four catches for 90 yards in all five games this year, making this an easy buy at this number.Best betOver 55.5I've said it before and I'll say it again: Until the Seahawks' offense cools down or their defense tightens up, I'll keep hammering the over. We know these offenses can light up the scoreboard, and neither defense has proven stout against real competition. If the number scares you off, don't let it. Totals of at least 55 are 21-12-2 to the over since 2016, so trust the market on games that profile like this one.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Giants looking into video showing Jones, Barkley partying without masks
The New York Giants' embarrassing week might have just gotten worse. The team said Saturday it's aware of a video showing quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley failing to socially distance and wear masks while partying at a bar."We are looking into the nature and context of what is on the video," the team said in a statement, per ESPN.Jones and Barkley - who is out for the season due to a torn ACL - had dinner with some teammates and friends in a private room of a restaurant Friday night, a source told ESPN's Jordan Raanan.Afterward, the two players reportedly were invited to a Manhattan bar, where the video of Jones sharing a drink with a woman was seemingly taken. The video was posted to Instagram by a man who goes by DJ Lugghead, but it was later deleted. In an email sent to NJ Advance Media's Zack Rosenblatt on Saturday, a person claiming to be DJ Lugghead said the video was from last year and insisted the bar in question wasn't open.DJ Lugghead also seemingly posted a photo with Jones and Barkley, who were both maskless.
NFL Week 7 Pros vs Joes: Jets drawing sharp action as big 'dogs
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Before you make your NFL bets this weekend, it's worth knowing which side other bettors are backing - especially on games drawing sharp action. We talked to Jay Rood, Bet.Works' chief risk officer and theScore Bet's head trader, to see how sharps and public bettors are playing a busy Week 7 slate.Bills (-10.5, 46) @ Jets, 1 p.m.Just as everyone expected, the team sharp bettors have locked into this week is ... the Jets? The Bills opened as 11.5-point favorites and were bet up to -13 early in the week. That's when sharps pounced and moved the line swiftly in the other direction. Entering the weekend, New York was seeing three times as much money wagered and counting as the line continued to drop."(The liability on the Jets) is easily double any other team," Rood said. "At 13, that’s when they started taking the Jets, and the money that we’re taking on the way down is sharper money."The public is still riding Buffalo, which is among the heaviest-bet teams in parlays. Still, don't be surprised to see this line touch 10 by Sunday if sharp money continues to pour in on New York.Lions @ Falcons (-2.5, 55.5), 1 p.m.The second-biggest target for bettors this week is the Lions, who are drawing big bets in a favorable spot against the Falcons.Detroit has seen twice as many tickets bet on it but eight times as much money after an impressive three-game run that included wins against the Jaguars and Cardinals and a narrow loss to the Saints. The Falcons, meanwhile, are coming off their first win of the season and drawing twice as much activity on parlays, which Rood hopes is a harbinger of more straight bets on the home side."I've got to think we're gonna see some public play," Rood said. "Still, we're probably gonna be needing the Falcons in that spot."Steelers at Titans (-1, 51), 1 p.m.The game of the week is also the matchup with the most intriguing betting activity, and the line could still be on the move ahead of Sunday. The Steelers opened as 2.5-point favorites early this week and had drawn twice as many bet slips entering the weekend. Yet the Titans were the favorites in the sharp community, pulling four times as much money. That was enough to move the line all the way to Tennessee -1, where it sits as of Saturday afternoon."It'll either stay here at -1 or possibly go up because of the sharper plays," Rood said. "But at +1, the public is loving the Steelers."Pittsburgh has garnered 70% of the tickets on parlays with a 5-to-1 advantage in money, which suggests a run of public money could be coming on the road 'dog ahead of Sunday. Still, it likely won't be enough to offset the amount of sharp play on the other side, Rood said.49ers @ Patriots (-2.5, 44.5), 4:25 p.m.Few would have expected this to be a matchup of two .500 teams or worse heading into the season. Public bettors see both sides somewhat equally, but sharps have a decided lean on Sunday's affair. The 49ers have seen a 7-to-1 advantage in money wagered over the Patriots despite both sides drawing a nearly identical amount of tickets heading into the weekend. That run of sharp money brought this line from an opening 3 down to 2, but that's since moved back to 2.5 as of Saturday afternoon. If the Patriots did drop this contest, it would be only their fourth loss as home favorites in their last 25 contests - they're 17-7 against the spread in their previous 24 tries. The Niners are 6-26 SU as road 'dogs since 2015 but have covered three straight in that spot.(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Raiders remove 4 starting O-linemen from COVID-19 list
The Las Vegas Raiders removed four offensive linemen from the COVID-19 reserve Saturday, leaving Trent Brown as the only starter still on the list, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.Kolton Miller, Gabe Jackson, Rodney Hudson, and Denzelle Good landed on the reserve list after coming into close contact with Brown, who tested positive for COVID-19. Their respective COVID-19 tests Saturday must come back clean Sunday before they receive clearance to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. All four linemen were exposed to the virus Monday, meaning they needed to isolate for at least five days before returning to the team's facility. The Raiders also promoted defensive lineman David Irving to the active roster from the practice squad. Week 7 player prop bets: Mayfield, Darnold poised to bounce back
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We're looking to bounce back after going 2-2 in player props last weekend. Fittingly, we'll start with a player hoping for a rebound of his own. Here's what's on tap for Week 7.Baker Mayfield over 235.5 passing yardsMayfield was no match for the Steelers' defense last Sunday. He was sacked four times and threw two interceptions en route to a benching. There aren't many quarterbacks who can get the better of a Pittsburgh defense that ranks No. 1 in the NFL in adjusted sack rate, so Mayfield gets a pass there. Now, with one of the most favorable matchups on the board, the third-year quarterback is suddenly a buy-low candidate against the Bengals.Cincinnati's defense is No. 30 in yards per completion allowed (11.6) and No. 29 in explosive pass rate. The Bengals are down some key bodies on the defensive line and won't have William Jackson, who's been their best cover corner this season. If this Cincinnati defense gave up 371 yards and three touchdowns through the air to Philip Rivers and the Colts last weekend, can we really have any confidence it'll stop a Browns offense looking to get back on track?Brandin Cooks over 62.5 receiving yardsAvoid Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander in this tilt. He shut down Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley last Sunday, allowing zero catches on five targets. Alexander is currently PFF's No. 2 cornerback and should draw the assignment of Texans burner Will Fuller in Week 7.That leaves an opportunity for Cooks to become the focal point in a game that could open up - the total of 57 is the highest on this week's board.Cooks caught all nine of his targets against the Titans last week after going off for eight catches, 161 yards, and one score in the previous contest. He's all of a sudden found his groove with Bill O'Brien's fingerprints nowhere near the game plan.Hayden Hurst under 32.5 receiving yardsHurst will have his hands full against the Lions this Sunday. Detroit linebackers Jamie Collins, Jarrad Davis, and Reggie Ragland form an elite coverage unit that's allowing the fewest yards per game to tight ends (19.2) in 2020.Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan hasn't targeted Hurst more than six times in a game since Week 2. Go under on the tight end's yards.Sam Darnold over 215.5 passing yardsPlenty of factors have contributed to Darnold's struggles this season. Not only has the Jets' offensive game plan been spotty, but the schedule's been tough: Darnold's already faced a healthy Bills defense and three other units that currently rank top 11 in DVOA defense. Sunday's rematch against Buffalo will be the best matchup the third-year quarterback has seen this season. The Bills quietly own the third-worst DVOA defense in the league and are struggling with injuries in the back seven. The Jets figure to be trailing as 10-point underdogs, so Darnold should be in pass-first mode. This is a soft number bettors can feel comfortable going over on.(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. A contest pitting the current version of the Buccaneers against the current version of the Raiders is a great matchup on its own.Tampa Bay is coming off the most masterful performance by any team this season: a dominant walloping of the previously undefeated Packers that vaulted the Buccaneers to the top of Football Outsiders' total DVOA ratings. The Raiders are coming off a bye, but they hung 40 points on the Chiefs in Kansas City in their last game. There were doubts about Derek Carr heading into this season - his last with any guaranteed money on his contract - but he's so far been one of the league's most efficient quarterbacks. He's second in the NFL in on-target percentage, according to Sports Info Solutions, and Next Gen Stats ranks him second (6.1%) to Russell Wilson in completion percentage over expectation (CPOE). Christian Petersen / Getty ImagesCarr isn't throwing deep very often - just 8.6% of his attempts, according to PFF - but he showed against the Chiefs he can do it if that's what the defense gives him; he went 4-for-6 for 219 yards and two TDs on throws of 20 air yards or more versus Kansas City.Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles earned a lot of credit for creating a game plan that so thoroughly smothered Aaron Rodgers last week. The Steelers' high-scoring offense against a Tennessee defense ranked just 24th in DVOA.But here's one nugget that didn't make it into this week's deep dive into Titans QB Ryan Tannehill: He has a passer rating of 110.5 when pressured, according to data at PFF, which is the best such mark in the league. Tannehill has also thrown seven touchdowns and zero interceptions when under pressure. The Steelers, meanwhile, lost inside linebacker Devin Bush to a season-ending ACL injury, and it's the one area of their defense where depth is a problem. Joe Sargent / Getty ImagesIn 2017, Pittsburgh was a Super Bowl threat until Ryan Shazier - whose role was similar to Bush's - sustained a career-ending spinal injury. The Steelers were fourth in defensive DVOA when Shazier went down. They closed out that season with four of their five least efficient defensive performances of the campaign, according to Football Outsiders, with the lone exception coming in an easy win against the Texans and their third-string quarterback. Pittsburgh then proceeded to give up 45 points to Blake Bortles and Co. in a home playoff loss to the Jaguars.Long story short: Don't be shocked if this one's a shootout.A reason to watchJaguars (1-5) at Chargers (1-4), 4:25 p.m.If you're in that small part of the U.S. where the local CBS affiliate is airing Jaguars-Chargers in the late-afternoon window instead of 49ers-Patriots or Chiefs-Broncos, you may be tempted to nap through it. He's lost all four of his starts so far, but his counterparts in three of them were Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees. In his most recent game two weeks ago, Herbert marched Los Angeles 48 yards in under 40 seconds to put the Chargers in position to beat the Saints in New Orleans. Report: Buccaneers finalize 1-year deal with Antonio Brown
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't done adding offensive weapons.Tampa Bay has reached an agreement with free-agent wide receiver Antonio Brown on a one-year deal, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The two sides finalized a contract worth slightly over the league minimum Saturday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal reportedly contains various performance bonuses.Brown still has to pass COVID-19 protocols, but he's expected to make his Bucs debut against the New Orleans Saints in Week 9.The seven-time Pro Bowler is currently suspended but eligible to be reinstated following Week 8. He reportedly generated interest from multiple teams, including the Seattle Seahawks. The Buccaneers will be the fourth team of Brown's career. The 2010 sixth-round pick spent his first nine NFL campaigns with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was traded to the Raiders, now of Las Vegas, in 2019 but failed to make it to the regular season with the team after demanding a release. The New England Patriots then signed Brown but cut him after just one game due to off-field issues. The 32-year-old has caught 841 passes for 11,263 receiving yards and 75 touchdowns since entering the league. He's played in only one game since the end of the 2018 season, during which he caught a touchdown pass from Tom Brady.Brady made a strong push for Brown, according to Schefter.Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians, who was the Steelers' offensive coordinator in 2010 and 2011, said in March that Brown wasn't "a fit in our locker room."The Buccaneers added several high-profile players during the offseason, including Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski, and running backs Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy.Tampa Bay's wide receiver corps - which features Pro Bowlers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin - is already one of the NFL's most talented.
Timeline: Antonio Brown's roller-coaster ride from Pittsburgh to Tampa Bay
What a long, strange trip it's been.In a matter of 22 months, Antonio Brown went from a future Hall of Famer with the Pittsburgh Steelers to a late free-agent addition with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also had brief stints with the then-Oakland Raiders and the New England Patriots in between. The winding road was long, so allow us to recap it all for you.Dec. 23, 2018: AB's last game with the Steelers Chris Graythen / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe most trouble Brown had caused in Pittsburgh to this point came when he went on Facebook Live and filmed Mike Tomlin delivering an expletive-laden speech after a postseason victory. The Steelers were 8-6-1 and chasing a playoff spot heading into their Week 16 matchup with the New Orleans Saints. Brown had a trademark day in the shootout, recording 14 catches for 185 yards and two touchdowns on 19 targets. Those were his 14th and 15th scores of the season. Few could predict the falling out that soon followed.Dec. 30, 2018: Brown benchedThe week played out like this: Brown was given a "rest day" Wednesday and missed Thursday's practice with what was listed as a knee injury. He was said to be undergoing tests Friday and again did not practice Saturday.Pittsburgh made Brown inactive for the must-win Week 17 contest against the Bengals. Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed he benched AB "due to injury and lack of information" leading up to the game. There were reports Brown threw a football at Ben Roethlisberger during a midweek walkthrough, and that he was set off by JuJu Smith-Schuster being named team MVP. Nonetheless, after nine seasons and a Hall of Fame trajectory, Brown's Steelers tenure was over.Jan. 15, 2019: Arians calls AB a 'diva'Brown's former offensive coordinator with the Steelers, Bruce Arians, weighed in on the drama and made pointed remarks at the receiver."There's too much miscommunication, too much ... diva," Arians said on a podcast. "I've heard so many stories - I like Antonio - he plays as hard as anybody on Sunday, and he practices hard. He's just gotta make better decisions off the field, be on time, do some of those little things."Feb. 5, 2019: Legal troublesBrown was involved in a domestic dispute in early February 2019, though he wasn't arrested in the incident. A week later, he was found guilty of reckless driving. It would be just the beginning of the receiver's legal troubles.Feb. 19, 2019: Steelers, Brown move onAfter Brown met with owner Art Rooney II one final time, both player and team agreed to mutually part ways following the messy end to the 2018 season.
Rivera: Cancer treatment 'headed in the right direction,' final session Monday
Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera will undergo the last round of his seven-week cancer treatment Monday, he told reporters Friday, according to John Keim of ESPN."I've been told it's headed in the right direction," Rivera said of his treatment.Rivera will undergo multiple weeks of follow-ups and scans after concluding chemotherapy and a proton treatment Monday, Keim adds. The 58-year-old was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer in August. Doctors told him it was treatable and curable. He said fatigue has been one of the most significant side effects of his treatment."How tired you get, at times you get nauseous," he said. "At times your equilibrium is messed around with, almost a sense of vertigo. And then the nausea. It hits you at any time, anywhere."But the fatigue, going out to practice it limited me, and that bothers me because I can't coach the way I coach."Rivera hasn't missed any games due to his illness, but he has been forced to skip a few practice sessions. He previously said coaching through cancer was "a struggle."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

NFL Week 7 best bets: Lay the points with Packers, Bills
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Well, that was brutal. A winless Week 6 brings us below .500 on the year, but this week offers plenty of value. Here are my best bets for Week 7.Packers (-3.5, 57) @ Texans, 1 p.m. ETI've been staring at this line all weekend, and I still don't buy it. The Packers have been a stellar bet all year and looked like one of the league's best teams before getting dominated by an elite Buccaneers squad on the road. Now they're short favorites over a one-win squad that can't cover to save its life? The Texans are fun offensively, but they have serious issues on defense. They've allowed 177.5 rushing yards per game on 5.4 yards per carry - both worst in the NFL - and they were powerless a week ago against Derrick Henry (212 yards, 9.6 YPC). Things won't get much easier this week against one of the most efficient ground games in the league. The Packers have three regular-season losses under Matt LaFleur. After each loss, they came out firing and won convincingly. Expect a similar result Sunday.Pick: Packers -3.5Panthers @ Saints (-7.5, 51.5), 1 p.m.I wrote earlier this week about the Panthers' favorable chances to upset the Saints straight up, so clearly I'm all in on the value against the spread, too. Carolina has performed like a top-half team this season and ranks just below New Orleans in key advanced metrics, yet oddsmakers are pricing this like an impending blowout.Do you really trust the Saints to blow out anyone, especially with Michael Thomas considered a long shot to play? In four games without him, they've lost outright to the Raiders (+4) and Packers (+3) and had to erase double-digit deficits against the Lions (+3) and Chargers (+7).For whatever reason, oddsmakers have priced these two quarterbacks inefficiently for years in this particular spot. Drew Brees is riding a 14-28-1 ATS run as a home favorite, while Teddy Bridgewater is 14-4 ATS in his career as a road underdog. Until the market corrects, take full advantage.Pick: Panthers +7.5Bills (-11.5, 46) @ Jets, 1 p.m.This one shouldn't take a lot of convincing, but I'll try my hand, anyway. The Jets are horrible. They're the first team to start 0-6 ATS / SU since 2011, and they've lost those six games by an average of 18.3 points, which is on pace for the worst point differential in NFL history over a full season. This line would be higher if the Bills hadn't coughed up two consecutive games in ugly fashion, but that shouldn't concern bettors too much given the faith oddsmakers are placing in them here. Double-digit road favorites are a stellar 16-2-1 ATS since late 2017, winning by an average of 22.3 points in 19 outright victories. As of Friday, Sam Darnold is expected to reprise his starting role this Sunday after missing two games with a shoulder injury. Does it even matter? The Jets quarterback is 10-20 ATS in his career, including 2-7 ATS in his last nine, and his supporting cast is getting worse by the day. Don't get cute with this one.Pick: Bills -11.5(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. McLendon found out about trade to Bucs before final game with Jets
Steve McLendon has one of the more bizarre trade stories in recent NFL history. The defensive tackle told reporters Friday that he found out he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to playing in his final game for the New York Jets in Week 6."I got the news on Saturday night that a car would be waiting for me after the game on Sunday to come to Tampa," McLendon said, according to Pewter Report's Taylor Jenkins. "Sunday morning I woke up, I prayed, and I was like, it's one last ride. I told my boys, 'It's one last ride together.'"McLendon still played 43% of New York's defensive snaps in a loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday."A lot of guys were saying, 'Man, you're really going to play?'" he said. "And I said this could be the last time I play with y'all in my career, so let's go out here and make it a great one, let's go have some fun. Even though we lost that day, there was some good football played between us, and when it was over with, it was emotional."The Jets acquired a 2022 sixth-round pick and a 2023 seventh-round selection from Tampa Bay for the 34-year old.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc.
