Cowboys' McCarthy: I don't see Martin playing vs. Washington
The Dallas Cowboys' injury woes along the offensive line aren't letting up, as All-Pro guard Zack Martin appears unlikely to suit up Sunday against the Washington Football Team due to a concussion."Unless something changes here in the next 24 hours, I don't see Zack participating," Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters on Friday, according to team writer David Helman.Martin was forced out of Monday night's loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the first quarter after being evaluated for a concussion. The news forces yet another alteration along Dallas' blocking unit. One of the most injury-riddled groups league-wide, the Cowboys will start nearly an entirely new line compared to training camp.Projected Week 1 startersPotential Week 7 lineupTyron Smith (LT)Cameron Erving (LT)Connor Williams (LG)Connor Williams (LG)Joe Looney (C)Tyler Biadasz (C)Zack Martin (RG)Connor McGovern (RG)La'el Collins (RT)Terence Steele (RT)Smith, Looney, and Collins are currently on injured reserve. NFL Week 7 teaser: Lions, 49ers find their groove
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. We couldn't carry the momentum of our Week 5 winner into Week 6, as the Cowboys were absolutely thrashed on Monday night.Let's get back in the black in Week 7.Lions @ Falcons, 1 p.m. ETLine: Lions +2.5Teaser line: Lions +8.5Kirk Cousins was feeling awfully generous in Week 6 and the Vikings were all out of sorts on defense - a common theme from Mike Zimmer's team this season - resulting in a lopsided Falcons win. It was a clear indication there will be better moments for Atlanta the rest of the way under interim coach Raheem Morris, but this is still a team with issues on both sides of the ball. The Lions aren't without concerns of their own - both teams would like to see more from their veteran quarterbacks - but they're a more complete squad as a whole. The emergence of D'Andre Swift adds to the potency of the offense, which has been really sharp since the return of Kenny Golladay - who's playing for a new contract. They also played some excellent defense against the Jaguars, limiting them to just 4.5 yards per play.Detroit ranks higher in efficiency on both sides of the ball, and the Falcons are still a team that thrives on making life difficult for themselves. You'd be brave to pick a winner here, with both teams about as good at blowing leads as Philip Rivers is at procreating, but I feel comfortable getting the Lions with an eight-point cushion.49ers @ Patriots, 4:25 p.m.Line: 49ers +2Teaser line: 49ers +8The 49ers did really well to bounce back from being thrashed in Week 5 with a convincing win over the NFC West rival Rams. The Patriots, meanwhile, didn't at all resemble a team that had two weeks to plan for a middling Broncos unit. It was a disastrous effort from New England offensively, and there's cause for some long-term concern there. But first, we know how the Patriots will attack this game defensively because we've seen it so many times before. Bill Belichick likes to take away your best weapon, which in this case means keying in on tight end George Kittle and forcing the 49ers to find an alternate path to success. But this is an offense with a ton of weapons, one that can beat you in so many ways. Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk are big-play specialists, the running game finds success no matter who's getting the carries, and the most important weapon of all is Kyle Shanahan's ability as a play-caller.On the other hand, the Patriots don't have any offensive weapons, and that makes life incredibly difficult on Cam Newton. Even more worrisome is the fact Newton looked like the guy nobody wanted to sign all offseason. He was hesitant to throw to open receivers and the Broncos had no reason to respect the pass, which caused the running game to falter as a result. New England simply doesn't have the offensive weapons to win convincingly.Full teaser: Lions +8.5, 49ers +8 ($110 to win $100)(Odds source: theScore Bet)Alex Moretto is a sports betting writer for theScore. The Las Vegas Raiders' COVID-19 tests came back clean Friday, and their Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers remains on schedule, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Raiders offensive tackle Trent Brown was placed on the COVID-19 list Wednesday, which resulted in the team sending its entire starting offensive line home from practice due to contact tracing. As a result, the NFL flexed the Week 7 game between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks to Sunday Night Football, replacing Vegas and Tampa Bay.Offensive tackle Kolton Miller, guards Denzelle Good and Gabe Jackson, center Rodney Hudson, and safety Johnathan Abram were all placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday. Most of the Raiders' offensive line has a chance to suit up against the Bucs, but Abram is listed as having close contact with Brown on Tuesday and wouldn't be cleared in time for Sunday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Vegas will host Tampa Bay on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Eagles rally from late 11-point deficit to take NFC East lead
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Carson Wentz threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Boston Scott with 40 seconds remaining and the Philadelphia Eagles overcame an 11-point deficit in the final seven minutes to beat the New York Giants 22-21 on Thursday night.Daniel Jones shook off a stumble that prevented him from an 88-yard touchdown run and had the Giants leading 21-10 following a 2-yard pass to Sterling Shepard with 6:21 left. But Wentz led a depleted offense missing eight starters back. His 3-yard pass to Greg Ward cut it to 21-16. After the 2-point conversion failed, the Eagles got the ball at their 29 with 2:02 to go.Wentz completed passes of 11 and 30 yards to Richard Rodgers. On third down from the 5, a defensive holding penalty gave the Eagles a first down at the 3. But three-time All-Pro center Jason Kelce was called for a facemask penalty that pushed it back to the 18.No big deal.Wentz threw a perfect strike to Scott and the backup running back made an excellent catch to give Philadelphia the lead. The 2-point conversion failed, but Jones was sacked and fumbled on the ensuing possession. The Eagles (2-4-1) and Giants (1-6) are right in the mix in the NFC East, led by Dallas (2-4).Wentz threw for 359 yards and two TDs and ran for a score.Jones had only the end zone ahead of him away when he took off running from the Giants 12 in the third quarter. He was well ahead of everyone chasing him until he stumbled and got tackled before he could get up at 8.A pass interference penalty against Nickell Robey-Coleman on third down gave the Giants another try, and Wayne Gallman ran in from the 1 to give them a 14-10 lead.Jones’ 80 yard run was the longest by a Giants quarterback and tied for the fourth-longest in team history. Patrick Mahomes, the 2018 NFL MVP, couldn’t resist poking some fun at Jones. He tweeted: “I mean i can’t even say anything cause i would never be able to run that far either.”Jones threw a 39-yard TD pass to Golden Tate in the first quarter.Questionable play-calling cost the Eagles early in the fourth quarter. Wentz completed a 40-yard pass to Travis Fulgham and the Eagles reached the 7 when Jalen Hurts came in to run an option and gained no yards. After Wentz ran to the 3, Eagles coach Doug Pederson went for it on fourth down. The call was a fade to No. 5 tight end Hakeem Butler, who has no career catches. Logan Ryan broke it up.The Giants then drove 97 yards to take a 21-10 lead.Philadelphia’s depleted offense picked up where it left off against Baltimore when it scored 22 fourth-quarter points in a 30-28 loss. Using a no-huddle often on the opening drive, Wentz led the Eagles 75 yards and ran in from the 1 for his fifth TD rushing to make it 7-0. Wentz scrambled 3 yards on fourth-and-1 to keep the drive going and connected with Richard Rodgers for 18 yards to the 1 to set up the score. But the Eagles reverted to their mistake-prone ways until the final 6 1/2 minutes.REVOLVING DOORLeft guard Sua Opeta became the 10th offensive lineman to start for the Eagles this season and fourth to make his first NFL start.INJURIESGiants: RB Devonta Freeman (ankle) left in the second half.Eagles: WR DeSean Jackson, RT Lane Johnson, DT Hassan Ridgeway (biceps) and DB Craig James (hamstring) left in the second half.UP NEXTGiants: Host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2) on Monday Night Football on Nov. 2.Eagles: Host the Dallas Cowboys (2-4) on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 1.___More AP NFL: https://apnews.com/NFL and https://twitter.com/AP_NFLCopyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL moves Raiders from SNF due to COVID-19, flexes Cardinals-Seahawks
The NFL has flexed the Week 7 game between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks to Sunday Night Football. As a result, the Las Vegas Raiders will now host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.The league's announcement comes one day after Raiders right tackle Trent Brown tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in Las Vegas sending all of its starting offensive linemen and safety Johnathan Abram home from practice following contact tracing.Offensive tackle Kolton Miller, guards Denzelle Good and Gabe Jackson, center Rodney Hudson, and Abram were all placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday. Las Vegas didn't register any new positive cases after Wednesday's round of testing, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The NFL and players' union are reportedly reviewing whether Brown failed to consistently wear his tracking device at the team's facility prior to testing positive, which made it more difficult for the league to determine which teammates were in closer contact with him, a source told Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.The game between the Raiders and Buccaneers is expected to be played on Sunday afternoon, according to the NFL. The league made the move to ensure there will be a prime-time matchup that night in case the Las Vegas contest is postponed. The Cardinals are now set to play a prime-time game for the second straight week after beating the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football in Week 6. The Seahawks, meanwhile, will make their third prime-time appearance this year.Seattle enters Week 7 as one of the NFL's three unbeaten teams at 5-0, alongside the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL upset of the week: Panthers to keep underdog streak alive vs. Saints
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. Each week during the NFL season, we'll focus on one underdog with a chance to pull off the outright upset. Last week, we were dead wrong about the Browns (+160) snapping their road losing streak against the Steelers, dropping to 2-4 with -0.15 units won in the process. All it takes is one upset to flip our fortunes, and this week, we're taking a big swing on the Panthers (+290) in a compelling spot against the vulnerable Saints.Don't sleep on Bridgewater, PanthersAside from a nasty run to end the 2019 season, the Panthers have consistently been among the most undervalued teams in the betting market, and that continues this year despite repeated success as underdogs. That's long been the story for Teddy Bridgewater, who's famously 19-6 against the spread in his career as an underdog. What's less known is that he's won 12 of those 25 games straight up, including three consecutive outright wins in that spot this season. The Panthers have been an above-average team by DVOA, and they're tied for seventh in net yards per play (0.5), a solid metric for evaluating team strength with less randomness. The Saints are tied for fifth in net yards per play (0.6), and they're a few spots higher in DVOA.Are these teams really so far apart that the Panthers should be priced at +290, especially when they consistently cash in similar spots?Saints struggle in chalk spotsWe've picked on the Saints in this column multiple times this year, and for good reason - they're 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games as home favorites, and New Orleans has been especially brutal as chalk. In the Saints' last four games, they've lost outright to the Raiders (+170) and Packers (+155), and New Orleans has needed to erase double-digit deficits against the Lions (+135) and Chargers (+260).All four of those contests came without star receiver Michael Thomas, who could miss yet another matchup after injuring his hamstring on Wednesday. Carolina's pass defense has been surprisingly effective this year, but that's still an area of weakness for the Panthers. Much like against the Raiders, though, the Saints' offense without Thomas might not be equipped to exploit that mismatch.Their own defense might be an even bigger issue. New Orleans' pass defense ranks 15th in DVOA and is tied for 30th in PFF coverage grade, signaling a potential issue ahead of a clash with the Panthers' pass-happy offense. If Carolina gets hot in the fourth quarter, as it has multiple times this year, the Saints will be in trouble. Why the Panthers will winThe last time we picked against the Saints as touchdown favorites, we warned that it's always risky banking on a big underdog. But we still won. This spot feels awfully similar to that one, when the Saints' offense never found its rhythm, and Derek Carr and the Raiders' assortment of weapons exposed New Orleans' defense in the intermediate game.If the Saints find their groove and win by 20 points, don't be surprised. And if Bridgewater outduels former teammate Drew Brees in a shootout? Don't say we didn't warn you.(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Wilson: Seahawks 'a great place' for Antonio Brown
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson thinks his team can help free-agent wide receiver Antonio Brown."Most of the conversations I've had with most his former teammates and stuff like that said that he worked hard every day," Wilson said Thursday, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "I think that with our culture and how our culture is, with (head) coach (Pete) Carroll, with the teammates that we have, the men that we have and the growth, I think, if he does play football, I think this is a great place. If he does play again, I think this is a place that he'll grow a lot as a man as well."The Seahawks are reportedly among the teams interested in Brown, who's suspended but eligible to be reinstated following Week 8.The NFL suspended Brown during the offseason for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The suspension is reportedly related to both the threatening text messages he sent a woman who accused him of sexual misconduct and his January altercation with a moving truck driver.Wilson added that he doesn't don't know what's going to happen with Brown but hopes the wideout "gets to play football again," according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. The 32-year-old's last NFL appearance was more than a year ago and marked his only game of the 2019 season. The 5-0 Seahawks lead the NFL with 33.8 points per game, most of which have come from Wilson's league-high 19 passing touchdowns.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jets' Darnold: Trevor Lawrence talk is 'out of my control'
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has struggled in his third season, and he's aware of suggestions that the team will select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft."Yeah, you know, I mean, I have social media," Darnold said, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini, adding that he's heard some of the chatter, but the Jets have a "game to win this week and that's all we're worried about."The young signal-caller has come under fire as he works his way back from a throwing shoulder injury that forced him to miss two games."I don't think I've played well enough to win, that's just shooting it straight," said Darnold. "We haven't won any games, so obviously I haven't played well enough."The third overall selection in the 2018 draft isn't letting talk of his possible replacement affect him."For me, it's out of my control," he said. "I'm here to do my best and help this team win games."Through four games this campaign, the former USC standout has completed 82 passes for 792 yards and three touchdowns to four interceptions. The Jets remain the league's only winless team, and they'll attempt to change that while hosting the Buffalo Bills at Metlife Stadium on Sunday.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: NFL, NFLPA reviewing Raiders after possible COVID-19 violations
The NFL and NFLPA are reviewing the Las Vegas Raiders' COVID-19 situation, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The two parties are looking into offensive tackle Trent Brown possibly failing to consistently wear his tracking device prior to testing positive, and a video of offensive linemen in close contact while not wearing masks. It's standard procedure for the NFL and the union to review any team after multiple positive tests, Pelissero adds.Brown was placed on the COVID-19 list Wednesday, joining cornerback Damon Arnette, who landed on the list Monday. The Raiders also sent home their entire starting offensive line after the unit's close contact with Brown.Safety Johnathan Abram was sent away too as a result of contact tracing. The Raiders will place the remainder of their starting offensive line and Abram on the COVID-19 list, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. We've gone 2-2 with the trends for three straight weeks, so here's to a winning batch this time around. Here are some notable trends to watch for in Week 7.Bills (-12.5, 45.5) at Jets, 1 p.m. ETThe last 10 teams to start the season with six losses against the spread went 3-7 ATS in their next game, which is bad news for a Jets squad that hasn't come close to covering and is losing by over 18 points per game. The Bills, meanwhile, are on a 19-7-1 ATS run following back-to-back losses, and double-digit road favorites are 16-2-1 ATS since the end of 2017.Trend play: Bills -12.5Browns (-3, 51) at Bengals, 1 p.m.Good luck betting the Browns on the road, where they've gone 1-8 ATS since Week 5 of last season and 13-22 ATS since 2016. The Bengals have been average at home, but they're 7-2-2 ATS in their last 11 as underdogs and have gone 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 against Cleveland.Trend play: Bengals +3Panthers at Saints (-7.5, 51.5), 1 p.m.Until Teddy Bridgewater stops covering as an underdog, I'll keep betting on him in that spot. The Panthers quarterback is now 19-6 ATS in his career as a 'dog, including seven outright wins over his last nine tries. The Saints are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games as home favorites, and they've lost four of their last five ATS to Carolina.Trend play: Panthers +7.5Packers (-3.5, 56.5) at Texans, 1 p.m.The Packers were smoked a week ago, but that's no reason to avoid them here. Aaron Rodgers is 33-21-1 ATS in his career after a loss, with five straight wins in that spot, while road favorites coming off a 28-plus-point defeat are an impressive 12-5 ATS since 2008. The Texans may be improved from the beginning of the year, but they've still lost six of their last seven ATS, and six straight as underdogs.Trend play: Packers -3.5(Odds source: theScore Bet)C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Jaylon Smith calls out players criticizing Cowboys' staff: 'Own up to it'
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith wants the players who anonymously criticized the coaching staff to be accountable.“If you got something to say, own up to it," Smith said Thursday, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota. The defender said Mike McCarthy is a player's coach, and those on the roster therefore shouldn't be hesitant to bring issues forward."Coach wants us to be grown men. It’s a blessing to have him as a coach. We have to perform." he said."If you got something to say, put your name on it," Smith added. He's the latest Cowboys player to speak out following an earlier report of anonymous players calling the coaching staff "totally unprepared" following a 38-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.Running back Ezekiel Elliott also chimed in Wednesday, saying the Cowboys need to keep this kind of issue "in house."Dallas has endured a bumpy start to its 2020 campaign, with the club dropping four of its first six games while also losing Dak Prescott for the season. The Cowboys' defense has performed poorly under new coordinator Mike Nolan. Vikings GM after 1-5 start, Ngakoue trade: 'No one thinks the season's over'
The Minnesota Vikings are off to a 1-5 start this season, and after trading away defensive end Yannick Ngakoue on Thursday, it was believed the team could've started to rebuild.According to general manager Rick Spielman, though, the Vikings remain focused on winning."When you have probably one of the top running backs in the league, I don't know if you'd call that a rebuild or not," Spielman said Thursday, referring to Pro Bowl runner Dalvin Cook, according to Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune."You want to win as many games as we can, and that's going to be our objective for the year. But also, when you have an opportunity to continue to add, with the 15 draft picks, you're seeing most of them having to play right now," he added. After acquiring Ngakoue in a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars during the offseason, Minnesota moved the former Pro Bowler to the Baltimore Ravens reportedly in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional fifth-round selection.Spielman added that the way the season played out for Minnesota forced him to make moves after six weeks."To lose three linebackers, two of them before the season even starts, that's kind of hard to predict," he said. "(Ben) Gedeon and Cam Smith with the heart surgery, so you're scrambling a little bit, trying to fill voids."The Vikings also lost linebacker Anthony Barr for the year due to a torn pectoral muscle suffered in Week 2.Additionally, two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Danielle Hunter reportedly will remain sidelined this season as he'll undergo surgery to clean up a herniated disc. This is the first time since 2013 the Vikings started the season 1-5.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Vikings' Hunter undergoing season-ending surgery on herniated disc
Minnesota Vikings pass-rusher Danielle Hunter will undergo surgery to clean up a herniated disc, knocking him out for the remainder of the season, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.A two-time Pro Bowler, Hunter didn't suit up this season after being placed on the injured reserve in September. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer alluded to the veteran receiving a second opinion earlier in October. That second opinion resulted in the 25-year-old getting a recommendation to sit out the year, according to Chris Tomasson of St. Paul Pioneer Press.Hunter has been one of the NFC's top pass-rushers over the last few seasons, recording 29 sacks since 2018. He's also notched 67 tackles for a loss since entering the NFL in 2015.Minnesota may also be facing a major decision with Hunter in the offseason, as Rapoport hints the talented defensive end could be seeking a new deal that will make him the NFL's highest-paid defender, adding that a trade is possible. Hunter signed a five-year, $72-million extension in 2018 with an average annual salary of $14.4 million. The Vikings already dealt one pass-rusher, sending Yannick Ngakoue to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. The Vikings are 1-5 and last in the NFC North.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Roddy White: Lawrence should return to Clemson if Jets get No. 1 pick
Former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White has some advice for Trevor Lawrence: Avoid the New York Jets. The Jets, currently sitting at 0-6, look like the frontrunners to land the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. If that happens, White thinks Lawrence would be wise to return to Clemson for another season."If I'm Trevor Lawrence, if the Jets finish with no wins, I just go back to Clemson. ... I just go back for another year," White told The Big Lead's Brian Giuffra. "I don't want any part of that organization."White is cousins with Tigers offensive coordinator Tony Elliott and shared what message he would pass along to Lawrence."I would tell him to tell Trevor, 'If the Jets get the first pick, don't go, just stay,'" White said. "Stay one more year in college and just enjoy your time, man. Just enjoy your time in college. Because it would be awful for you to get drafted by the Jets because they do not know how to put anything together over there as far as quarterbacking, as far as weapons around the quarterback, as far as anything that has to do with offensive talent."Through five games this season, Lawrence has thrown for 1,544 yards and 15 touchdowns with one interception.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Ravens plan to add Dez Bryant to practice squad
The Baltimore Ravens intend to sign veteran wide receiver Dez Bryant to their practice squad if his workout goes well and he passes a physical, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Baltimore previously worked out Bryant in the offseason, but he left without a contract. The three-time Pro Bowler last played in 2017, and he's asked for a chance to return to the field multiple times since, including this offseason.Bryant inked a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints midway through last season after the Dallas Cowboys released him in April 2018. However, the now 31-year-old tore his Achilles tendon two days after signing, ending his Saints tenure prematurely.A 2010 first-round pick, Bryant became one of the NFL's best receivers soon after entering the league, racking up over 1,200 receiving yards in three straight campaigns from 2012 to 2014 and 41 touchdowns over that span. The All-Pro led the league with 16 TD receptions in 2014.With Marquise Brown, Willie Snead, and Miles Boykin currently atop the depth chart, Baltimore has been looking to upgrade the position as it hopes to make a deep playoff run.The Ravens previously showed interest in Antonio Brown, though the team currently doesn't plan on bringing him in, according to NFL reporter Josina Anderson.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Chargers' Taylor cleared, could return as backup vs. Jaguars
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor is reportedly medically cleared to return from a punctured lung, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Taylor could be back as soon as Sunday for the Chargers' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as Justin Herbert's backup, Rapoport adds. The veteran quarterback has been out since Week 2 after a team doctor accidentally punctured his lung while trying to administer a pain-killing injection to his cracked ribs.Taylor came into the season as the team's starting quarterback but was overtaken by Herbert after the rookie played impressively well during his absence.Herbert has thrown nine touchdowns and three interceptions in four games this season.Taylor completed 53.3% of his passes for 208 yards in his only start of the season, a Week 1 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Ravens acquire Yannick Ngakoue from Vikings
The Baltimore Ravens acquired defensive end Yannick Ngakoue from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional fifth-round pick, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Ngakoue's tenure with the Vikings lasted just six games after the Jacksonville Jaguars dealt him to Minnesota this offseason for a 2021 second-round pick and a 2022 conditional fifth-round selection. The star pass-rusher will fly to Baltimore in the next 24 hours to complete COVID-19 testing so he can join his new team next Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Schefter adds. The Ravens have a bye in the upcoming Week 7.Ngakoue has been a target of general manager Eric DeCosta for a while now, as Baltimore attempted to acquire him multiple times in recent months. The defender grew up in Bowie, Maryland and went to Maryland college before the Jaguars made him their third-round pick in 2016."We are excited to add Yannick Ngakoue to our football team," DeCosta said, according to Sirius XM's Adam Caplan. "Yannick is someone who we are very familiar with going back to the draft process years ago. He is an exciting player and a dangerous pass-rusher who makes us better."Pass-rush depth was viewed as a major need for the Ravens despite ranking second league-wide with 22 sacks. Ngakoue should start opposite Matt Judon at outside linebacker, with Pernell McPhee, Tyus Bowser, and Jaylon Ferguson in the rotation. The 25-year-old notched five sacks across six games with the Vikings. He's accumulated at least eight quarterback takedowns every year since entering the NFL.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Tua: Parents 'didn't believe' that I landed starting QB job
The Miami Dolphins' decision to name Tua Tagovailoa their starting quarterback came as a pleasant surprise to the rookie's parents.Tagovailoa shared the conversation he had with his mother and father after he learned the news."I told my parents that I got a call from (head coach Brian Flores) and the GM was in that same room, and they told me that I was gonna be the starter," he said Wednesday. "So I told them that and, I mean, they were excited."They didn't believe me for a little bit. I think my dad kind of joked about it. He's like, 'After two plays, after two throws, they want to put you in now?'"Tagovailoa made his NFL debut late in the fourth quarter of Miami's 24-0 win over the New York Jets in Week 6, completing two passes for 9 yards. He FaceTimed his parents from the field after the game. The 22-year-old's first start will come against the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 1, following the Dolphins' bye week.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Saints' Thomas tweaked hamstring in practice
It appears Michael Thomas has one more hurdle to overcome before returning to the field.Making his way back from a high ankle sprain that cost him time earlier in the season, the New Orleans Saints wide receiver tweaked his hamstring during Wednesday's practice, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. The Saints will monitor Thomas over the next two days to determine whether he can play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Pelissero adds. The star receiver was set to return from his ankle injury prior to New Orleans' bye, but he sat out Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers due to disciplinary reasons after reportedly getting into a confrontation with teammates and coaches.Saints head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that Thomas' discipline concluded and his ankle was "feeling better."The 27-year-old suffered the injury in Week 1 and missed the last four games as a result.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cowboys' Elliott vows to 'lock in and focus' to combat fumbling woes
Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has fumbled five times through six games this season, including twice in Dallas' 38-10 loss Monday. However, the star tailback is taking his struggles in stride."I just think I need to not put myself in vulnerable situations. I've just got to lock in and focus," Elliott said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer."I don't think there's a specific answer," Elliott continued. "All I can do is ... watch as much film as I can, gather as much information as I can, and try to use that to help me. But I don't think there's an exact answer on how to fix these fumble problems I've had this year."Although Elliott is vowing to work hard to correct his recent fumbling issues, the three-time Pro Bowler doesn't believe dwelling on past mistakes will help solve the problem."I'm not going to be able to change the amount of times I put the ball on the ground this year," Elliott said. "That's not going to change at all. What I focus on, what I can control, is my play from here on out, so, I've got to put that behind me."The 25-year-old has rushed for 415 yards and fives touchdowns this season. He has also caught 32 receptions for 204 yards and a score.Dallas has committed a league-high 15 turnovers in 2020, including nine fumbles. However, the Cowboys currently sit atop the NFC East at 2-4.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Shanahan doesn't expect Sherman, Ford back until after Week 11
The San Francisco 49ers have been without two of their defensive stalwarts for much of this season and the team expects their absences to continue.Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday cornerback Richard Sherman and defensive end Dee Ford like won't be back until after the club's bye in Week 11.San Francisco placed Sherman on injured reserve with a calf injury after he appeared in a Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Ford has also been sidelined since Week 1 and on IR since Oct. 2 due to back and neck issues. Both players are eligible to return after three weeks, but the 49ers will extend their absences."It's obviously going a little longer than we expected, gotta play it smart with him, but I don't see it being week-to-week right now, I see it being probably 'til around our bye week," Shanahan said of Sherman's injury. The sideline boss was a little less certain about Ford's status."I would throw it similar into that category, after our bye week," Shanahan said. "He's got the work he's needed, he's got the shots he's needed, he's rested it, and now he's just starting to get back into some things. But still a ways away on that."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Giants-Eagles betting trends and player props
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. If you want to know how bad the NFC East has been this year, just consider that the one-win Eagles (-4.5, 45) host the one-win Giants on Thursday in a game that, somehow, has crucial implications for the divisional race. Hold your nose before betting this one. Here are our favorite trends, props, and bets for Thursday night.Betting trendsSince 2018, no team has had more exaggerated home-road splits against the spread than the Giants, who've been both the league's worst bet at home (4-15 ATS) and the best bet on the road (15-4 ATS). They've also been stellar during that span as road underdogs (13-3 ATS) and when catching at least 4.5 points (12-6 ATS).The Eagles are one of the only clubs that have rivaled New York's home woes since 2018, as they're tied for the third-worst home record (6-13-1 ATS) during that span. Philadelphia is 3-10-1 ATS in its last 14 games as a home favorite and 10-22 ATS in its last 32 games laying points at home against a division rival. If you're a believer in prime-time trends, though, you may want to consider the Eagles, who've covered five straight on Thursdays and are 12-6 ATS in the night slot since beating New York on a Thursday night in late 2016. The Giants are 4-9 ATS in prime time since that game and have lost four straight Thursday contests.Player propsRichard Rodgers over 3.5 receptions (+128)If you'd never heard of Rodgers before, you'll know his name after Thursday night. The former third-round pick had just one catch in two seasons with the Eagles entering this year, but injuries to Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert have elevated him to the top spot on the depth chart for an offense that loves to feature its tight ends.Philly has averaged 9.4 completions to its tight ends since the start of 2018, while New York has allowed 4.6 receptions per game to opposing tight ends during that span. Rodgers had three catches last week while playing a season-high 60% of his team's offensive snaps, and he should be in for a bigger workload in his first full game as the top tight end.Daniel Jones over 29.5 rushing yards (-106)Sometimes a number just appears off, and this one doesn't make a ton of sense. Jones ranks fourth in the NFL this year in rushing yards per game among quarterbacks (34), and he's rushed for at least 45 yards in three of his last four contests, including 74 yards a week ago against Washington. The Eagles let Lamar Jackson run wild last week for 108 yards on nine carries, and they'll struggle to keep Jones under 30 yards rushing Thursday.Best betGiants +4.5For whatever reason, the Giants have been inefficiently priced as road underdogs for a while now, and they're getting too many points against an Eagles club that has repeatedly failed as a favorite. These are both bad football teams with bad offenses, though New York ranks as the better club by advanced metrics even before accounting for Philadelphia's recent injuries. With Miles Sanders and their top two tight ends likely out, don't expect the frisky Eagles team we've seen in recent weeks. Instead, take the points in what will likely be an ugly affair.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Raiders send O-linemen home after placing Trent Brown on COVID-19 list
The Las Vegas Raiders sent their starting offensive linemen home Wednesday after they came in contact with right tackle Trent Brown, who the team placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list due to a positive test, head coach Jon Gruden announced, according to Tashan Reed of The Athletic. The isolated blockers are offensive tackle Kolton Miller, guards Denzelle Good and Gabe Jackson, and center Rodney Hudson.Additionally, safety Johnathan Abram was also sent home due to the team's COVID-19 contact tracing. The Raiders started contact tracing Wednesday after moving Brown to the reserve group. Sending players who had close contact with an individual on the COVID-19 list is part of the NFL's protocols this season, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.Brown is the third player currently on Las Vegas' COVID-19 list, along with defensive tackle Maurice Hurst and cornerback Damon Arnette. The absences at practice forced Gruden to line up an unfamiliar offensive line alongside quarterback Derek Carr.
Aaron Lynch unretires, rejoins Jaguars
Former Jacksonville defensive end Aaron Lynch has unretired and been reinstated to the Jaguars, the team announced Wednesday. The veteran, who has six NFL seasons under his belt, had signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars in May but retired in August, citing personal reasons.Lynch spent the past two seasons with the Chicago Bears and the previous four with the San Francisco 49ers. He has 20 career sacks and should be a welcome addition to a Jaguars defensive front ranking dead last with five sacks through six games.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Seahawks among teams interested in Antonio Brown
The Seattle Seahawks are among multiple teams positioned to make a push to sign wide receiver Antonio Brown, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The Seahawks have not started official contract discussions with the suspended Brown, per Schefter. Brown is eligible to be reinstated following Week 8.The NFL suspended the free-agent wideout during the offseason for violations of the league's personal conduct policy.Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was asked about Brown on Wednesday and indicated that nothing has happened yet but said "we'll see what happens as it goes forward," per Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.Brown's name has been linked to the Seahawks in the past. The receiver even caught passes from Russell Wilson over the summer.
Cowboys' Lee: Anonymous complaints can't be taken seriously
The Dallas Cowboys seemed to be facing some turmoil after a few unnamed players reportedly criticized the coaching staff Tuesday, but veteran linebacker Sean Lee isn't overly concerned about it."You never can really take them serious. ... You don't know if the person is in the room or not in the room. Maybe they were but aren't now. Sometimes, you don't know if it's through a secondhand source. Like if it is a player but maybe it's coming through an agent," Lee said, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.He continued, "So like we said, anything anonymous, we're not going to worry about that. If somebody won't put their name on it, so be it. But we know that we need to stick together."Lee added that head coach Mike McCarthy addressed the players and notified them that he is open to embracing other perspectives, even if they challenge his line of thinking."It was great what (McCarthy) said about if you have a problem, come to my door. He doesn't have a problem talking to guys, embracing other people's opinions. Maybe he'll agree with you, maybe he won't. Conflict is not an issue for him," Lee said, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.Running back Ezekiel Elliott also weighed in, stating there is no room for internal conflicts to filter into the outside world."We need to keep that kind of stuff in-house. Everyone look in the mirror, see what's going on - fix that and we'll be better," Elliott said.It was reported Tuesday that players blasted staff for not being "good at their jobs" following a 38-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Cowboys have struggled this season, particularly on defense, surrendering an NFL-worst 36.3 points per game. They've been especially vulnerable against the run, allowing five of their six opponents to rush for over 100 yards.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Should you bet the Jets to finish 0-16?
Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section. The Jets are the worst team in football; that much is clear. And after their grisly six-game start to the NFL season, oddsmakers are skeptical that they'll even win a contest this year. With Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Dolphins, New York became the first team to start 0-6 straight up and 0-6 against the spread since 2011. The Jets have been outscored by 110 points over those six games. Projected over a full season, that -293 point differential would break the record set by the winless 1976 Buccaneers (-287).Will this New York team finish winless, too? Oddsmakers say no, but the price is alarmingly short on what would be a historically dubious feat:Will the New York Jets finish 0-16?OddsYes+370No-500Only two teams in NFL history - the 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns - have finished 0-16. Is there value in betting the Jets to do the same?Don't count on historyThe Jets' embarrassing start to the 2020 campaign has put them in rare company through six games. In the 30 seasons before this one, 41 teams started their year with six losses. Only a half-dozen of them were also winless against the spread, and only one of those six had a worse point differential than these Jets.A lousy start doesn't portend a winless season, though. Remember last year's Dolphins, who were outscored by 148 points through their first six games and started the year with seven straight losses? We had these same conversations about betting on a winless campaign only for Miami to win five games and finish with a winning record ATS.It's been a similar story for most teams that start as bad as New York has. Teams with an 0-6 record average 3.0 wins by season's end, according to Football Outsiders, and those six teams that opened 0-6 SU / ATS all won at least one game and averaged 3.2 wins.In fact, the Jets aren't even one of the 40 worst teams by DVOA (since 1985) through the first six weeks, and almost all of those squads won at least once. Football Outsiders' playoff odds report projects New York to win 3.4 games, while the team's chances of finishing 0-16 are a measly 2.2% - which means there might even be value in laying the -500 odds on the Jets to win a game. How to bet on a winless seasonIf you insist on fading the Jets, though, there are better ways to do it.First off, try betting against them on the number. Since 1989, five teams have started 0-6 against the spread with an average ATS margin as bad as New York's (-11.08). Those teams finished 21-26-3 ATS over their final 10 contests. Double-digit underdogs - which the Jets likely will be in most games this season - have also gone 44-72-5 ATS since the start of the 2016 campaign. If you must wager on a winless season, don't tie up your money with a futures bet that only pays +370. Instead, consider a moneyline rollover, which will cost you early but pay massive dividends by the end.The Jets' opponents have been favored by roughly a touchdown per game this season. If that continued, you'd win about $1,000 by betting $100 on their opponents' moneyline and rolling over the winnings. Even if they were double-digit underdogs every single week - as they are this week against the Bills (-13) - you'd still make around the same as you would with a +370 futures bet, with the option to "cash out" whenever you wanted.Truthfully, neither is the most prudent bet on this Jets squad. Instead, fire away on the weekly number against them or lay the upfront juice on a win down the road. As bad as they look now, you'll be thankful at least once in the next 10 weeks.C Jackson Cowart is a betting writer for theScore. Chiefs' Bell comfortable with taking lesser role: 'There's only 1 football'
Kansas City Chiefs running back Le'Veon Bell made it known he has no problem with any role his new team assigns him, even if it means taking a lesser part than what he's used to."When I decided to come here, I knew the weapons they have and there's only one football," Bell said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher.Having been released by the New York Jets last week, Bell now joins a Kansas City backfield that has relied on rookie sensation Clyde Edwards-Helaire to carry the load this season.Head coach Andy Reid isn't worried about favoring one running back, noting each rusher will benefit the other."It doesn't hurt to have a running mate or two, different flavors isn't bad to throw at a defense," Reid said, according to Hayley Lewis of 41 Action News.Bell is eligible to make his Chiefs debut Sunday against the Broncos. With the running back getting his first practice Wednesday, Reid says the team is taking it "day-by-day."The veteran running back has rushed for 6,199 yards and added another 3,160 receiving yards since entering the league in 2013."It's going to be fun, I think there's a lot of weapons, it's going to be fun for me," Bell said.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Dolphins' Fitzpatrick heartbroken over benching: 'I felt it was my team'
Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't see the Miami Dolphins' decision to bench him for Tua Tagovailoa coming."I was shocked by it. It definitely caught me off guard," the veteran signal-caller said, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. "It was a hard thing for me to hear yesterday, just digesting the news. My heart just hurt all day."Though Fitzpatrick completed over 70% of his passes and led Miami to a 3-3 record through the first six weeks of the season, head coach Brian Flores this week tabbed first-round rookie Tagovailoa as the starter moving forward, calling the decision "the best thing for the team.""I've been a starter, I've been benched all kinds of different ways," said Fitzpatrick, who's played for eight different teams over his 16-season NFL career. He added: "But this was kind of the first place other than Buffalo that I've been fully committed and invested. I felt it was my team."Tagovailoa said he was happy to hear the news but "definitely felt for Fitz."Fitzpatrick, 37, is now uncertain what the future holds for him."Is this it? Was that my last game in the NFL, being a starter?" he said, according to Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post.Fitzpatrick has started 145 NFL games and is one of the most iconic journeymen in the league, ranking 31st all time in passing yards (34,421) and 34th in touchdowns (220).He's posted an 8-11 record with the Dolphins over the last two seasons while throwing 30 touchdowns against 20 interceptions.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: LSU bans Beckham 2 years for distributing cash to players
LSU is banning former wide receiver and current Cleveland Browns star Odell Beckham Jr. from its facilities for two years after he handed out cash to players following the team's national championship win in January, Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger and Pat Forde report. The ban is part of recent self-imposing penalties for rules violations. The Tigers will also eliminate eight football scholarships over a two-year period while reducing recruitment visits, evaluations, and communication following a separate two-year investigation involving booster payments to the father of former offensive lineman Vadal Alexander."LSU has worked proactively and in cooperation with the NCAA to identify and self-report any violations that occurred within our football program," senior associate athletic director Robert Munson said in a statement to SI. "We believe these self-imposed penalties are appropriate and we will continue to coordinate and cooperate with the NCAA on this matter."School officials notified the NCAA of its self-imposed sanctions earlier in October and are hoping no further discipline will be handed out, according to Dellenger and Forde.Beckham was seen putting cash in players' hands on the field after the game versus Clemson and then joined the team in the locker room to continue the celebration.LSU initially claimed the bills handed out were fake but later issued a statement acknowledging real cash was given to student-athletes.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Browns' Beckham doesn't think COVID-19 'can get to' him
Odell Beckham Jr. was sent home from practice last week due to an illness, but the Cleveland Browns wide receiver was never concerned he caught COVID-19 while awaiting test results."Not in an arrogant way, I just don't think COVID can get to me. I don't think it's going to enter this body," Beckham said Wednesday, according to Jen Steer of Fox 8 News. "I don't want no parts of it. It don't want no parts of me. I think it's a mutual respect.""I felt like it was the right thing to do to mention I may not have been feeling well, I just wouldn't want it to spread throughout the building if there was a case I would've possibly had it," he added, per Jake Trotter of ESPN.Beckham eventually received two negative tests last week and was cleared to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The three-time Pro Bowler struggled in the 38-7 loss to the Steelers, racking up just two catches for 25 yards.Last week, the NFL had eight new positive COVID-19 tests among players out of 38,800 tests administered. Eagles expect DeSean Jackson, Lane Johnson to return on TNF vs. Giants
The Philadelphia Eagles are on track to have three starters back for their Thursday Night Football game against the New York Giants.Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said Wednesday that wide receiver DeSean Jackson, right tackle Lane Johnson, and cornerback Avonte Maddox are expected to play against the Giants, according to team writer Dave Spadaro.Jackson has missed the last three games after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 3. Maddox was also sidelined for Philadelphia's last three contests with an ankle ailment.Johnson, meanwhile, has been inactive for two games this season, including last week's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.Pederson added that he doesn't expect veteran wideout Alshon Jeffery to be in the lineup against the Giants. Jeffery has yet to play this season due to a foot injury. The 1-4-1 Eagles are on a two-game losing streak and have already ruled running back Miles Sanders and tight end Zach Ertz out for their Week 7 matchup. Browns' Mayfield: 'I don't give a damn' what critics say after loss vs. Steelers
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield received an ample amount of criticism following Sunday's 38-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the quarterback isn't paying any attention to it."I don't give a damn what they say," Mayfield said, according to ESPN's Jake Trotter. "We know we can be better, I know I can be better, that's how it's going to be handled. The outside noise doesn't matter. They get paid to talk, we get paid to do our work."Mayfield completed just 55.6% of his passes Sunday and finished with a season-low 54.9 passer rating. The quarterback also tossed two interceptions, giving him four over the last two weeks."4-2 has never felt so much like 0-6 before," Mayfield said Wednesday, per NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano, but noted that Cleveland is eager to respond."It's the next game mentality," Mayfield said. "We're all in it together right now. There's no the world is crashing right now mentality."The Browns will have a chance to rebound this Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Saints' Payton: Thomas' discipline over, ankle 'feeling better'
Michael Thomas seems to be out of the doghouse after Saints head coach Sean Payton said Tuesday that the receiver's discipline is over, according to Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Advocate.Thomas sat out the team's Week 5 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers due to disciplinary reasons after reportedly getting into a confrontation with teammates and coaches. The receiver has also been dealing with an ankle injury, and while Payton was noncommittal on the possibility of Thomas returning this Sunday, he did offer some optimism."We'll see. I think he's feeling better. We really don't get into injuries or predictions, so you guys will be the first to know," Payton said. The Saints are coming off their bye week, giving Thomas some additional time to recuperate.New Orleans has relied heavily on Alvin Kamara in Thomas' absence, as the running back has tallied 676 yards from scrimmage this season. The potential return of the three-time Pro Bowl receiver would give the Saints even more firepower on offense.Thomas led the league in receptions (149) and receiving yards (1725) last season.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Flores: Naming Tua starting QB 'the best thing' for Dolphins
In a move that will impact the Miami Dolphins' short- and long-term future, head coach Brian Flores officially named Tua Tagovailoa his starting quarterback Wednesday.Flores cited timing and progress from the first-round rookie as the primary reasons he felt comfortable making the switch."We feel like that's the best thing for the team," Flores said, according to NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "We feel like through practice and meetings and walkthroughs that he's ready, and that's how we're going to move going forward."I think he's gotten more comfortable. Accuracy, decision-making, all of those things have been good in practice. But again, practice is very different than a game. We're comfortable and confident that he'll be able to be competitive in those games when the time comes."Tagovailoa replaces Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback. The veteran performed well across six starts - completing 70.1% of his passes for 1,535 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions - but it was only a matter of time before Miami turned to the fifth overall pick in April's draft."Look, Fitz has been great," Flores said. "He's been great really for the last year and a half. I don't know if there's anybody who's been more instrumental in trying to instill a culture and embody a lot of things we're looking from a toughness, competitiveness, team-first ... He's made an impact on Tua (and) a lot of the players on this team. So I have a great respect for him, and that made this decision very tough."But at the end of the day, as a team, we felt like the best thing to do for our team now and moving forward was going with Tua. But I think Fitz and the way he handles himself and his impact on the team, it'll still be there. He's been a tremendous asset and leader for this team."The Dolphins have a bye in Week 7, so Tagovailoa will make his first career start next week against the Los Angeles Rams.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL Power Rankings - Week 7: A trade-deadline target for each team
The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors. This week, we're identifying one player whom each team should look to buy or sell ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline.1. Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) Kevin C. Cox / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 2The Chiefs could use a boost off the edge, and the Falcons' Takkarist McKinley will be on the market as a low-risk rental. A move to a contender may be just what the former first-round pick needs to reignite his career.2. Seattle Seahawks (5-0)Previous Rank: 1The Seahawks desperately need a pass-rusher, and Carlos Dunlap is frustrated with his diminished role in Cincinnati. Does anyone else hear wedding bells?3. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-0)Previous Rank: 6The Steelers figure to scour the market for short-term relief at linebacker after losing Devin Bush for the season. Chargers' Denzel Perryman won't cripple their cap situation or cost a premium draft pick.4. Baltimore Ravens (5-1)Previous Rank: 5The Ravens should be at the front of the line for Alshon Jeffery if the Eagles are determined to move him. They could use a big, physical receiver to complement the speedy but undersized Marquise Brown.5. Green Bay Packers (4-1) Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 3The Cowboys just paid Amari Cooper and drafted CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup needs a new deal next year. While it's unlikely Dallas moves Gallup now, it never hurts to ask. He would fit perfectly for Aaron Rodgers alongside Davante Adams.6. Tennessee Titans (5-0)Previous Rank: 4The Titans must reinforce their O-line to keep the offense rolling after a torn ACL sidelined Taylor Lewan. Riley Reiff is an obvious candidate with the Vikings in freefall.7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)Previous Rank: 11GM Jason Licht and head coach Bruce Arians already plugged one hole with defensive tackle Steve McLendon and could fill another by nabbing Jets cornerback Brian Poole to play the slot.8. Buffalo Bills (4-2)Previous Rank: 8After the Chiefs gashed them for 245 rushing yards, it's clear the Bills need a run-stuffing defensive tackle like the Giants' Dalvin Tomlinson. He'll hit the market after the season, but the 26-year-old is young enough that he could be a long-term piece in Buffalo.9. New Orleans Saints (3-2)Previous Rank: 9If Drew Brees is going to dink and dunk all season, the Saints need to get him another shifty receiver who can separate off the line of scrimmage - perhaps Jets' Jamison Crowder.10. Los Angeles Rams (4-2) James Gilbert / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 7Surely the chronically aggressive Rams can't afford another blockbuster addition, but that shouldn't preclude them from making a more modest upgrade in the secondary with a guy like Chargers' Desmond King.11. Arizona Cardinals (4-2)Previous Rank: 16With Kenyan Drake off to a so-so start and the Cardinals on the brink of contention, GM Steve Keim should feel inclined to pull the trigger on another running back trade. Phillip Lindsay is underused by the Broncos and has the pass-catching skills to fit in Kliff Kingsbury's offense for years to come.12. Chicago Bears (5-1)Previous Rank: 14The Bears are among the biggest surprises in 2020. Nick Foles needs better protection if their success is to continue. Falcons center Alex Mack should be available and would solidify the line's interior, though it would require Cody Whitehair to move back to guard where he struggled previously.13. Indianapolis Colts (4-2)Previous Rank: 15The Colts need a quarterback of the future, and Sam Darnold deserves a fresh start with a competent franchise. The Jets are far more likely to trade Darnold in the offseason when they know their draft position, but it's possible Indy tries to take advantage of New York's fire sale early.14. Las Vegas Raiders (3-2)Previous Rank: 12The Raiders' young secondary has held up reasonably well over the opening six weeks, but more experience and playmaking could help them in their fight with the Chiefs for the AFC West. Jets safety Marcus Maye, who reminded us of his talent with a butt interception in Week 6, would be a great fit in Las Vegas.15. San Francisco 49ers (3-3) Rob Carr / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 18Ryan Kerrigan would gladly leave Washington to reunite with former teammate Trent Williams and make a push for the playoffs with the 49ers, who need to bolster a pass-rush decimated by injuries.16. Cleveland Browns (4-2)Previous Rank: 10With the Browns' pass defense struggling and the Vikings in a position to sell at the deadline, it's a good time to resurface the Anthony Harris trade rumors that festered throughout the offseason.17. New England Patriots (2-3)Previous Rank: 13The Patriots lack speed at receiver, and Cam Newton plays his best when defenses have to respect a downfield threat. It would be a bold move for New England considering the recent misses to fix the position, but imagine Newton unloading bombs to DeSean Jackson - if he's healthy.18. Miami Dolphins (3-3)Previous Rank: 21The Dolphins will be doing a disservice to Tua Tagovailoa if they don't attempt to improve his receivers after moving the QB into the starting lineup. They could kick the tires on several wideouts, including John Ross, who wants out of Cincinnati.19. Carolina Panthers (3-3)Previous Rank: 17Only the Patriots have gotten fewer receptions from tight ends this season than the Panthers, who are hanging around in the NFC playoff race and would make sense as a landing spot for the disgruntled David Njoku.20. Denver Broncos (2-3) Jim McIsaac / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 26Breshad Perriman was considered a potential free-agent target for the wide receiver-needy Broncos last offseason before signing a one-year contract with the Jets. With Courtland Sutton out for the year, Denver should look to get Drew Lock more help before the deadline.21. Dallas Cowboys (2-4)Previous Rank: 19Plan B for the Cowboys isn't going well. Andy Dalton didn't get much help on MNF, but Dallas can't cross its fingers and hope. While Miami would be wise to keep Ryan Fitzpatrick as a mentor to Tagovailoa, the veteran is likely the most realistic and relatively inexpensive Plan C.22. Philadelphia Eagles (1-4-1)Previous Rank: 20It's sad Zach Ertz's time in Philly will end on a sour note, but it appears inevitable given their public contract dispute, the Eagles' long-term cap issues, and the team's early struggles. Though his contract demands might limit his options, the Eagles should listen if a contender comes calling.23. Houston Texans (1-5)Previous Rank: 22In crowding their wide receiver room, the Texans were always going to leave someone with too small of a role. Kenny Stills, who only has seven catches through six weeks, is enticing for a team looking to add speed to its offense.24. Detroit Lions (2-3)Previous Rank: 25Receiver Marvin Jones only has 14 catches through five games and will be a free agent this coming offseason. The Lions should attempt to recoup some value for the veteran and open up playing time for younger options.25. Los Angeles Chargers (1-4) Maddie Meyer / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 24The Chargers' playoff chances are slim. But with Justin Herbert looking like a star, the team shouldn't trade away any of its valuable players. Instead, with running back Austin Ekeler sidelined, L.A. should bolster Herbert's supporting cast with Jordan Howard, who's been a healthy scratch for Miami recently.26. Atlanta Falcons (1-5)Previous Rank: 28If the Falcons can find someone to take guard James Carpenter's contract off their hands, they better do it ... immediately ... without asking questions.27. Minnesota Vikings (1-5)Previous Rank: 23Kyle Rudolph has been a consistent presence for years, but he's expensive, on the wrong side of 30, and preventing Irv Smith from moving into the No. 1 tight end role.28. Cincinnati Bengals (1-4-1)Previous Rank: 27The Bengals may not want him, but defensive tackle Geno Atkins can help somebody. Cincinnati appears ready to move on after reducing his playing time to begin the season.29. New York Giants (1-5)Previous Rank: 31Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett is essentially using Evan Engram the same way he used an old Jason Witten in 2019. The young tight end is an explosive threat and excels when attacking defenses deep and not running curls. New York should trade Engram to a team that knows how to use him.30. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5) Sam Greenwood / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 29The Jaguars got rid of every other defensive starter from their 2017 AFC title game appearance, so why leave out Myles Jack? While it would rob the unit of its best player, Jacksonville isn't winning anytime soon, and the linebacker's trade value may never be higher than right now.31. Washington Football Team (1-5)Previous Rank: 30When Washington benched Dwayne Haskins four games into 2020, it effectively ended the young quarterback's time with the team. Plenty of organizations should be willing to take a flier on Haskins for a discounted price.32. New York Jets (0-6)Previous Rank: 32Apparently, everyone on the Jets not named Mekhi Becton is available for trade. Quinnen Williams, the No. 3 pick in 2019, will generate more interest than most thanks to his high ceiling and favorable contract status.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. McCarthy wants Cowboys to 'handle things as men,' not complain to media
The Dallas Cowboys were blown out by the Arizona Cardinals in prime time on Monday, and the loss seemingly sparked a revolt.Anonymous Cowboys players called out the coaching staff for its lack of preparation and in-game adjustments. Head coach Mike McCarthy responded to the news Tuesday, saying he wishes his players would bring their issues to him rather than the media."I haven't been part of any of those type of discussions," McCarthy said, according to NFL.com's Grant Gordon. "I think like a lot of things, when you hit a part of your season or any challenge where there is negativity out there, where it comes from and who it comes from, that's something I've never chased. I think you do have to recognize it and I just really go back to my first meeting with the football team."I've always stated this to every team that I've coached. I think it's important to handle things as men; if you do have something to say publicly that is of most importance, I think it's important to say it to the individual. Particularly in a group dynamic, setting. Especially in the game of football, especially for the Dallas Cowboys. That's all part of the development of our program, of the system we're installing here."Dallas sits at 2-4 but still leads the NFC East, which has been by far the NFL's weakest division in 2020.The 38-10 loss to the Cardinals was the Cowboys' first game since Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury.Andy Dalton, who received a vote of confidence from owner Jerry Jones, threw two interceptions and averaged just 4.93 yards per attempt. He had one touchdown pass, though it came in the final minutes with the game already out of reach.Star running back Ezekiel Elliott, meanwhile, had two early fumbles that both led to touchdowns for the Cardinals.Though the offense's issues were in the spotlight Monday, Dallas' defense continues to be the league's worst. Its 216 total points allowed is the most by any team through six games since the AFL-NFL merger.Despite the struggles, the head coach insists his players still believe in defensive coordinator Mike Nolan."Definitely. It's a change," McCarthy said. "This is something that we want to do defensively-wise. Frankly, we're in the infant stages of it."That's part of these first-year challenges."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Cowboys' Gregory off exempt list, eligible for 1st game since 2018
The Dallas Cowboys have removed defensive end Randy Gregory from the Commissioner's Exempt List on Tuesday. The lineman was conditionally reinstated to the NFL in September but has yet to dress for a game. Instead, he has taken part in the acclimation period "to help facilitate his return to football before being able to practice and be eligible to play in games," per the NFL.Gregory is eligible to return to the field Sunday against the Washington Football Team. He has not been active for a contest since Week 17 of the 2018 season. The 27-year-old has been out of football following an indefinite suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy in 2019.The former second-round selection has drawn four suspensions since entering the league in 2015.Gregory has tallied 11 tackles for loss and seven sacks through 28 games over three campaigns with the Cowboys. The Nebraska product joins a Dallas defensive line featuring DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford, and Everson Griffin.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Washington president says new nickname not certain for 2021
Washington Football Team fans could be waiting longer than expected for a new name for their club.Team president Jason Wright said Tuesday the lengthy process that comes with an NFL team rebrand means it's unlikely to happen in time for the 2021 season."I think next year is fast because of how the brand has to come together through uniforms, through approval processes through the league," Wright said, according to Scott Abraham of ABC7. "Next year is fast. There is a pretty good chance we will still be the Washington Football Team next season. We could get there quicker, it's actually pretty hard to get there that quickly because of all the steps that need to happen."Wright added that Washington will take its time due to a desire to create a brand that truly represents the community."Everybody needs to take a deep breath," Wright said. "It's not coming tomorrow. It's a business decision, we need to understand that market. More importantly, it's important to engage the community and the fans. We're also in the process of identifying the folks that should weigh in over time."We want this name and brand to represent the entire area, to represent the fan base, but to also attract new folks to this fan base. We want to grow this fan base as part of our new identity."Washington head coach Ron Rivera said in July that the rebrand could be "a 16-18-month process.""We want this new name, this new nickname, to be able to stand the test of time - stand for 100 years," said Rivera.Washington dropped the Redskins team name following intense pressure from team sponsors, including FedEx, which owns the naming rights to the franchise's stadium.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Raiders activate Mariota, sign Irving to practice squad
The Las Vegas Raiders have activated Marcus Mariota from injured reserve and signed former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving to their practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.Las Vegas placed Mariota on injured reserve in September due to a reported pectoral strain. He'll likely serve as Derek Carr's backup. The 26-year-old quarterback signed a two-year deal with the Raiders in March after spending the previous five seasons with the Tennessee Titans.Irving last played in 2018 and was indefinitely suspended by the NFL in 2019 after violating the league's substance abuse policy. He was reinstated earlier in October. The league's new collective bargaining agreement states that two practice squad members can be promoted to the active roster each week. The elevated players can then be returned to the practice squad without needing to go through waivers twice per season. The Raiders brought in the lineman for a workout shortly after his reinstatement, and he could help bolster their pass rush.Las Vegas has struggled to get consistent pressure this season, recording just seven sacks thus far. Pass-rusher Maxx Crosby is currently the only player with more than one sack.Irving will reunite with defensive line coach Rod Marinelli. The two previously spent time together in Dallas. The defensive lineman set a career high in sacks in 2017 with seven and has tallied 12.5 since entering the NFL.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc.
