Patriots owner Robert Kraft insisted there are no issues regarding Tom Brady's contract despite there being only two years remaining on the deal - the time New England has usually opted to extend its star player during his 18-year career.Kraft pointed to the fact that having a 40-year-old signal-caller who's still performing at an MVP level puts the Patriots in a near-unprecedented position, but not one that either party has a problem with."He'll be 41 when the season starts," Kraft told Jeff Howe of The Athletic. "Neither side has an issue with it. If it becomes an issue, we'll deal with it."Related: Kraft says he met with Brady, Belichick amid reports of discordBrady is set to earn just $15 million in 2018 thanks to the discount deal he signed back in 2016 and carries a manageable $22-million cap hit, so an extension isn't required if both the Patriots and Brady are comfortable essentially going year to year at this stage of his career in a similar way to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. While Kraft said last month the Patriots "obviously" must consider drafting a QB, the 76-year-old owner wants Brady to continue playing as long as he feels capable of leading the team."Me personally, I'd like to see him play as long as he can," said Kraft. "I don't think anyone would have believed 10 years ago that he would have played this year, gone to the Super Bowl, and been MVP of the league at 40 years old. It's just unbelievable."It speaks to the way he takes care of himself, the way he trains, how much film he watches - one of the hardest-working guys. He is driven to excel. I think as long as he feels he is like that, he'll keep playing. We're so lucky to have him in our system."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The San Francisco 49ers' quarterback position is one of the most revered positions in sports thanks to Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Steve Young. But, asked Tuesday about the 49ers' latest star under center, Jimmy Garoppolo, Montana wasn't quite ready to name him San Francisco's next superstar on NFL Network's Good Morning Football."I think it's still a little early for it, myself," Montana said. "He's obviously has a lot more success in the games he’s played in so far than the other quarterbacks that have been there recently."I think there’s a lot of excitement in the Bay Area about it."Garoppolo excelled for the 49ers in 2017 after a midseason trade from the New England Patriots, leading them to a 5-0 record to close the campaign and recording a 96.2 passer rating.Despite the limited sample size, the 49ers were confident enough in Garoppolo to make him the NFL's highest-paid player at the time - a crown he held for just a few weeks until Kirk Cousins signed with the Minnesota Vikings."This year will be a big tell on it," Montana added. "They paid a lot of money for him. But I think there’s some belief there that he'll be there for a while."- With h/t to The Mercury NewsCopyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Current and former cheerleaders for the NFL and other leagues provided accounts to the New York Times of incidents in which they've been subjected to sexual comments and unwanted advances from fans."When you have on a push-up bra and a fringed skirt, it can sometimes, unfortunately, feel like it comes with the territory," former Tennessee Titans cheerleader Labriah Lee Holt told Juliet Macur and John Branch."I never experienced anything where someone on the professional staff or the team said something or made me feel that way. But you definitely experience that when you encounter people who have been drinking beer."Both teams and employees are cognizant of the occupational hazards, but the cheerleaders that came forward spoke of odd job requests. One such was an assignment that had six Redskins cheerleaders sent to a fan's home for an afternoon where seven men in their 40s were drinking and watching football. The request came at a charge of $1,200 per cheerleader, yet the cheerleaders were paid $100."It's literally like you're calling for an escort," one of the cheerleaders said. "It's not like somebody grabbed my boots, and nobody told me, 'Have sex with me right now.' It's a lot more nuanced. It's like every other abuse dynamic. You don't feel like you have the liberty to say, 'I'd prefer not to do this.'"A Dallas Cowboys cheerleader recalled one game when she and others were walking by a throng of opposing fans."We were walking by, waving and smiling, and one guy caught my eye. He looked at me and said, "I hope you get raped!' That's the kind of stuff we'd have yelled at us," she said. Most cheerleaders opt against reporting such incidents to their superiors for fear of losing their jobs."We beat out hundreds of other girls for this position. It was very apparent, always there - there is always somebody else who can do this job," the Cowboys cheerleader said. "We never talked about these things, never questioned them."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Richie Incognito made a surprising announcement to a number of reporters on Tuesday. The Buffalo Bills guard told Peter King of The MMQB he's "strongly considering" retirement, then revealed even more to Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News."I'm done. That's it. It's been a long career," Incognito said, according to Carucci. "Went to the doctor. My liver and kidneys are shutting down. The stress is killing me. It's just about doing what's right. I just want to be in the Hall of Fame."The 12-year veteran fired his agent via Twitter on Thursday after agreeing to a pay cut from $6.32 million to $3.65 million just weeks ago. He remains in talks with the Bills about his contract, however, and has given himself until Sunday to change his mind, according to King. The 2018 season would be the final year of his three-year deal with the team.Incognito has been anything but during his tenure in the NFL. Originally a third-round pick by the then-St. Louis Rams in 2005, he was waived by the team in 2009, claimed by the Miami Dolphins, and suspended indefinitely in 2013 for his role in a bullying scandal involving teammate Jonathan Martin. After a year away from football, he signed with the Bills in 2015 and has made three consecutive Pro Bowls. The loss of Incognito would be a big blow to a team that ended a 17-year playoff drought in 2017.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Josh Rosen has heard it all and he realizes the misconceptions may be hurting his draft stock. The UCLA quarterback and potential top pick in this year's draft attempted to set the record straight in a Q-and-A interview with ESPN's Sam Alipour.Rosen acknowledged he's been compared to superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers, yet off-the-field concerns could see him make a similar draft-day slide to the Green Bay Packer."Yeah, it's as frustrating as Baker Mayfield hearing the Johnny Manziel comparisons. I just don't think it's true," Rosen said. "But it's up to me to prove them wrong. If it persists, it's my fault for not silencing it."Working against Rosen are the narratives that he's entitled, disliked by teammates, and too outspoken. He's also been branded with the "rich kid" tag. Pundits have used his father's standing as a spine surgeon and his mother's status as a Princeton grad as an opportunity to question Rosen's love for the game of football."OK, my family isn't, like, stupid-wealthy. But I'm coming from a place where if football doesn't work out, I don't have to work at McDonald's," Rosen said."Other NFL players had the same opportunities. I just haven't tried to hide it or fool teams into thinking I'm someone I'm not. My passion for this game lies in the game, not my need to play it. Tons of players needed this game, needed the money, played it out of obligation and burned out. I don't need it and still I give everything to it."Rosen is competing with the likes of Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and Mayfield to be the first quarterback taken off the board in two weeks' time.Asked directly which player is the best prospect, Rosen flashed some of his trademark confidence."I'm the best QB in the draft. A lot of guys are flashier, but I think I'm the most efficient, monotonously consistent QB in the draft," he said. "Rodgers has some flair, but if you watch Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, there's nothing that's explosive or Johnny Manziel - like. It's just quarterbacking."The 2018 NFL Draft begins April 26.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The darling of the NFL Scouting Combine is about to be the darling of the NFL.Shaquem Griffin - a one-handed outside linebacker out of Central Florida - is mere days away from making the jump to professional football. The question isn't whether he'll be drafted, it's where and by what team.Upon the completion of his redshirt senior year with the Knights, Griffin was projected as a fifth- or sixth-round pick by NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein. By Day 2 of the Senior Bowl in January, he was forecasted as a fifth-round draft choice by Zierlein's colleague Daniel Jeremiah. Then the combine happened. At the talent showcase in early March, Griffin took hold of the spotlight and never let it go.Photo courtesy: Getty ImagesHe began by pumping out 20 reps on the bench press with the use of a prosthetic. His final tally was 11th among linebacker prospects. Then, the following day, Griffin stunned talent evaluators by running a blazing 4.38 in the 40. That time was tops among linebackers and the fastest a player at the position has run in 15 years. To put that number in perspective, Griffin's 40 time beat this year's entire running-back field and put him third among receiver prospects. His 4.38 tied the time of his twin brother, Shaquill, a corner who weighed 33 pounds lighter at last year's combine. It also was a better time than those posted by current NFL stars Antonio Brown, Ezekiel Elliott, and Julio Jones. On the strength of his star turn at the combine, Griffin began garnering third-round grades.

The Miami Dolphins agreed to trade offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James to the Denver Broncos for running back C.J. Anderson before surprisingly backing out of the deal, sources told Troy Renck of Denver 7.It's unclear when, exactly, the trade was set to happen, but the Broncos have been rumored to be listening to offers for Anderson throughout the offseason. Broncos general manager John Elway was mum on the 27-year-old's future in Denver when asked about it in late March, saying "he may or may not" be back.Anderson is at the halfway point of the four-year, $18-million contract he signed as a restricted free agent ahead of the 2016 campaign. He actually inked an offer sheet with the Dolphins at the time, but it was matched by the Broncos. He registered the first 1,000-yard campaign of his career last year, but found the end zone just three times. The Dolphins signed veteran running back Frank Gore earlier in the offseason, and he's expected to compliment Kenyan Drake in the backfield, but neither are viewed as long-term workhorses.James, meanwhile, is a former first-round pick of Miami. I'm always going to have his back. We knew what kind of caliber player he is. He knows what kind of caliber player I am. We're just trying to get to work and make this season go."Apple, drafted 10th overall in 2016, has yet to come close to the potential the G-Men saw in him coming out of Ohio State. Instead, he's become known as a source of locker-room drama in New York, which went 3-13 last year.Collins, one of the Giants' defensive leaders, labeled Apple a "cancer" late last season. I love that he comes up and lays the boom on guys and he's a great coverage guy. We need him. We're glad to have him back."Apple's roster spot was thought to be in jeopardy at the end of the 2017 campaign, but the Giants' new front office and coaching staff decided to award him a clean slate.Apple, who complained about his playing time throughout last season, made 49 tackles in 11 games. The Los Angeles Rams have made more noise this offseason than any team in the NFL, and it appears some of that can be attributed to the Philadelphia Eagles' success last season. The Super Bowl champions were lauded for their ambitious style of play all year, including the gutsy fourth-down scoring pass from tight end Trey Burton to quarterback Nick Foles in the title game. That style apparently helped shape the way Rams general manager Les Snead views player management."I got a simple rule: You can't be scared in this league," Snead told Peter King of The MMQB. "Look at (Eagles coach) Doug Pederson this year and, it wasn't reckless but it took courage and guess what? They won a Super Bowl on some of those fourth-down plays. So you try to do that as a general manager."Los Angeles has brought in stars such as Ndamukong Suh, Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, and Brandin Cooks through trades or free agency this offseason. While some of those moves could be deemed risky, there's no disputing the NFC West champs significantly upgraded the level of talent on their roster.Whether the moves result in a deeper playoff run remains to be seen, but it doesn't appear the Rams will be afraid to take chances, both on and off the field, this coming season.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL draft room is supposed to be a place of pure joy where the life-long dreams of a handful of young men are realized.Unfortunately, not every player can be a winner come April 26. Draft-day slides are commonplace and some seem to come out of the blue. Prospects who have been lauded for months find themselves staring at their phones, praying for a call. Here are three top prospects who could wait longer to hear Roger Goodell call their names than most people expect.Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, AlabamaEarlier in the offseason, Fitzpatrick appeared to have a shot at being the first defensive player off the board after a standout career under Nick Saban at Alabama. The NFL usually loves Saban's well-coached, technically sound defensive backs, but the issue with Fitzpatrick is his lack of a defined position. While he played mainly as a safety in college, he also has the size and athleticism to play full-time cornerback at the pro level. Unfortunately for him, Fitzpatrick lacks the coverage skills to play corner anywhere other than the slot. Without the potential to move him outside, teams could be hesitant to select him in the top 10.Fitzpatrick's draft-day wait shouldn't last too long, but he could slip to the middle of the first round - like Malik Hooker last year - as teams target players with higher upsides, such as fellow safety Derwin James.Derrius Guice, RB, LSU(Photo courtesy: Action Images)Saquon Barkley is the only running back that's a lock to be taken in the first round, but if another one goes that high, most would guess it would be the bruising Guice. The 20-year-old is an astonishingly physical runner. However, he looked far from his dominant 2016 self in the 2017 campaign due to recurring injuries, and teams should be concerned about his long-term viability.Making matters worse for Guice, the likes of Ronald Jones II, Sony Michel, Rashaad Penny, and Nick Chubb will all be fighting to be taken on Day 2.Guice's 2016 tape should ensure he's taken in the second or third round, but Jones and Michel could easily be selected before him, since both possess more well-rounded skill sets better suited to the modern requirements for an NFL running back.Josh Rosen, QB, UCLARosen was once thought to be in a battle with Sam Darnold to be the quarterback selected No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns, but concerns about his unconventional personality have somewhat diminished the hype.Related - Jim Mora: Josh Rosen 'needs to be challenged intellectually' to be greatRosen is also a much more traditional pocket passer than the other three top quarterback prospects, and his lack of physical upside could hurt his stock. While he's still in the mix to be taken by a number of other QB-needy teams in the top 10, it's not inconceivable that the league's apparent distaste for his character could see him tumble lower than not only Darnold, but Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen. If, for example, the Browns take Darnold at the top spot, the Buffalo Bills trade up for Allen at No. 2, and the New York Jets snag Baker next, Rosen's only remaining landing spot in the top 10 - barring a trade - would be the Denver Broncos at No. 5.It would be this year's big shock if Rosen got past the Broncos and slipped out of the top 10, but that scenario isn't as unrealistic as it sounds.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL draft can never please every single fan base around the league. Each year, the first round of the draft produces a handful of unpopular selections, which are promptly met with choruses of boos as the hope that most fans have developed in the run-up to the draft evaporates in an instant. But, what if each of the first 10 picks in the 2018 draft were all somehow met with such disdain? What if those teams all made the worst semi-realistic selection possible?Of course, this exercise will require some suspension of disbelief, as some players - such as Sam Darnold and Bradley Chubb - are all but certain to be drafted in the top 10.So, without further ado, the worst top-10 mock draft you'll read this offseason:1. Browns - Josh Allen, QB, WyomingAs Roger Goodell walks to the podium, Darnold looks eagerly down at his phone, awaiting a call that will never come.Instead, Allen is the quarterback that hears his name announced and the city of Cleveland instantly falls into chaos, as its long-suffering inhabitants finally break (at least you guys still have LeBron, right?).Allen's monster arm is the only thing forcing him into the conversation for the top quarterback prospect in the draft, and Hue Jackson definitely isn't the man to mold him after steering DeShone Kizer to an awful rookie year.2. Giants - Quenton Nelson, G, Notre DameThe Giants choose not to trade out of the No. 2 slot, but still decide against drafting a quarterback or one of the top pass-catchers and pass-rushers available in favor of the man who can help Eli Manning stay upright long enough for the QB to finally break into the top 10 of the all-time interception list.Nelson may be the best player in this draft, but he alone can't fix the Giants' protection issues and his positional value simply makes no sense at this spot. New York also incites anger in its fan base by passing on Saquon Barkley and trading a second-round pick to the Bears for Jordan Howard in a draft-day blockbuster instead.Meanwhile, Darnold shakes his phone with increasing anger. "Is this damn thing even on?!"3. Jets (via Colts) - Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn StateThe NFL thanks its lucky stars that the draft wasn't held in New York.Jets fans are notorious for their dramatic - and loudly negative - reactions to their team's draft picks, and the roof of JerryWorld almost caves in as Barkley's name is called. The Jets gave up three second-round picks to move up from No. 6 overall, and even though head coach Todd Bowles insisted the team did so with six-to-seven players in mind, it was assumed they'd select their new quarterback of the future. But the Jets decide to try zigging while the rest of the league zags. "Josh McCown has got a few good years left in him if he has Barkley," says a grinning Mike Maccagnan, while Bowles quietly starts clearing out his office in the background.4. Browns (via Texans) - Connor Williams, OT, TexasWilliams looked like a stud during the 2016 season, but his play dropped off significantly last year. Unperturbed, the Browns overreact to Joe Thomas' retirement and decide Allen needs his very own boringly-named left tackle.New Browns GM John Dorsey has received a lot of praise for his offseason so far, but he's still the man that drafted Eric Fisher with the No. 1 overall pick back in 2013 - his first year in charge of the Kansas City Chiefs - so his offensive linemen judgment isn't exactly great.5. Broncos - Lamar Jackson, QB, LouisvilleAngry at those who are doubting his ability to scout quarterbacks, John Elway decides to give a huge middle finger to the rest of the league by taking Jackson, hoping to mold him into the ultimate weapon some believe he has the potential to be while conveniently ignoring the fact he's taking on another massive project under center.Asked about Jackson's poor accuracy issues, Elway seems confused. "What accuracy issues? He hit on 57 percent of his college passes! Nearly exactly my NFL career average and I'm a Hall of Famer!"Back in the draft room, Darnold attempts to throw his phone against a wall, only to see it picked off by a diving Derwin James.6. Colts - Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia TechWith an entire draft's worth of defensive players to take, the Colts shock by ignoring pass-rushers Bradley Chubb and Harold Landry in order to fill one of the unit's other glaring needs: inside linebacker. However, even for a prospect with as much athletic upside as Edmonds, it would be a massive reach for Indy, especially as the soon-to-be 20-year-old will likely need several years to mature as an NFL player - years the Colts and Andrew Luck simply don't have.Colts fans storm Lucas Oil Stadium, demanding to know if Ryan Grigson has kidnapped Chris Ballard.7. Buccaneers - Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSAThe Buccaneers have made a point of improving their 32nd-ranked pass-rush from a season ago, trading for Jason Pierre-Paul and signing Vinny Curry so far this offseason.Buoyed by these additions, Tampa Bay goes a step too far by adding another pass-rusher to its roster - and not even the two most fans are, at this point, screaming for.Davenport has sky-high potential, but he appears more destined to be the "oh yeah, I forgot he went in the top 10" guy rather than the star the Bucs need.8. Bears - Derrius Guice, RB, LSUBears nation is happy with a second-rounder for Howard, right up until the moment GM Ryan Pace uses his first pick on a replacement in Guice. In what's a deep running back class, with a host of solid Day 2 options, Chicago is simply too eager to find what it believes is the final piece for a suddenly talent-rich offense thanks to a free-agency spending spree.Maybe bringing back a GM with a 14-34 record isn't the best idea, Chicago?9. 49ers - Calvin Ridley, WR, AlabamaNiners fans spent the start of the offseason dreaming about signing Allen Robinson - now with the Bears - and the middle wondering if they could get to see Jimmy Garoppolo throwing to Odell Beckham Jr. for the next decade.Instead, San Francisco reaches for a receiver in Ridley that many don't feel is even the best in the class, mostly due to his limited upside.Niners fans are more bored than annoyed, to be honest. "We still got the GOAT for a second-rounder, who cares!"10. Raiders - Vita Vea, DT, WashingtonTaking a two-down run stuffer with little upside as a pass-rusher in the top 10 in 2018? Sign Jon Gruden up!Vea is undoubtedly one of the top interior defensive linemen in his class and Oakland needs more bodies in the middle of its defense, but run-focused monsters are no longer valued like they once were.Gruden is also uncontrollably excited when he hears Vita's full name, Tevita Tuliakiono Tuipuloto Mosese Va'hae Faletau Vea. "Wow! That's wild, man! Heck, hope you get as many tackles as you have syllables."Gonna be a long 10 years, Raiders fans.(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. After eight seasons in the NFL, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons center Joe Hawley decided to get rid of most of his belongings and embark on a six month journey across the U.S. while living out of a van.Hawley told ESPN's Jenna Laine he was inspired to adopt a more minimalistic lifestyle after watching the film "Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things" on Netflix. He donated his furniture to Tampa-based charity Metropolitan Ministries, gave away 70 percent of his wardrobe to the Salvation Army, and replaced his Mercedes-Benz C300 coupe with a 10-year-old Ford E-350 Cargo Van that he bought for $55,000 and converted into a camper."If it doesn't fit in my van, I'm giving it away," Hawley said. "I thought about putting it in storage when I'm on the road, but I kind of want to start over when I'm done with the trip and have a fresh start, so I decided to give it all away. ... I don't need a lot of things to be happy."

"I've never in any way done anything to intentionally cheat the game."Davis added that he's not sure what triggered the positive result, as he's taken the same supplements for the last seven-to-eight years without encountering a problem."I've always tried to do things the right way," he said. "That's something that I will continue to do when I'm able to get back on the field. I can honestly tell you guys that my conscience is clear in this situation."The 35-year-old is going into his 14th season in the NFL, all of which he's played with the Panthers. He made three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2015-17, and was named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for his work in the community in 2014.Thomas had 76 tackles and 2.5 sacks last year in 15 games. He missed one game due to suspension for a vicious hit on Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.Davis said at the end of his video that the 2018 season may not be his last in the NFL, even though it's the final year of his current contract with Carolina. The Bears will have five days to decide whether they will match the Saints' offer. The receiver is the second Bear to garner interest from another team this offseason as a restricted free agent. The Green Bay Packers signed cornerback Kyle Fuller to an offer sheet in March, only for Chicago to match and re-sign their young defensive back the same day.Meredith enjoyed a breakout year with a team-high 888 yards in 2016 before tearing his ACL during the Bears' third preseason game last season. The 2018 NFL Draft is already rife with first-round quarterback options, with Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson all expected to come off the board within the first 32 picks. But it may be time to add another name to that list.Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph has been extremely busy with team meetings and workouts in recent weeks, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who calls the former Cowboys signal-caller a "likely first-rounder."Rapoport adds the Buffalo Bills, who own two first-round selections, will host Rudolph for a top-30 visit this weekend. He's also had meetings or workouts with the Saints, Chargers, Giants, Steelers, Bengals, and Patriots. Each team could reportedly pick a quarterback in Round 1. Like Buffalo, New England also has two first-round picks after trading Brandin Cooks to the Rams.Rudolph may not be targeted with a top-10 selection on April 26, but teams drafting in the latter stages of the first round are clearly doing their homework on the strong-armed passer. The last time six quarterbacks were chosen in the first round was in 1983.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New England Patriots have signed free-agent wide receiver Jordan Matthews to a one-year contract, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.The move comes two days after the Patriots traded Brandin Cooks, one of their top pass-catchers, to the Los Angeles Rams.Matthews is coming off a down season with the Buffalo Bills, for whom he tallied just 25 receptions, 282 yards, and one touchdown across 10 games. He spent the previous three campaigns with the Philadelphia Eagles, and had a career-high 997 yards and eight touchdowns in 2015.A possession receiver who specializes in the slot, Matthews figures to fit nicely into New England's passing game. No team has arguably been bolder this offseason than the Los Angeles Rams, who've made huge splashes by trading for the likes of Brandin Cooks, Aqib Talib, and Marcus Peters, and signing Ndamukong Suh in free agency. However, there's apparently been little movement regarding reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald's impending potentially record-breaking contract extension.Speaking at Cooks' introductory press conference, Rams general manager Les Snead reassured the fan base that Donald remains a top priority."We've got good dialogue with their agents. I'll keep all of that in-house, but none of it affects Aaron Donald," Snead said, according to Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com. "He's one of 53 and as I've said plenty of times before, we've got that budgeted into the budget. We didn't do all this and forget about him for sure."Not only is Donald waiting for a big payday, Peters and Cooks will also need significant long-term extensions soon, as the former is a free agent after the 2018 campaign, while the latter hits the open market the year after. The Rams are set to the have the second-most cap space in the league in 2019 but will need to use a huge chunk of that to secure their impressive group of young talent.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Houston Texans owner Bob McNair was the focal point of criticism directed at NFL owners last season after saying "we can't have the inmates running the prison" at a league meeting reportedly in reference to player protests. Now that he's had some time to reflect, he doesn't regret saying them - he only wishes he didn't apologize for the remarks.McNair claimed the comments were not in reference to the players, but rather workers at the league office who he felt had more control of the NFL than the owners. Regardless, he claims the public overreacted over a lack of understanding."The main thing I regret is apologizing," McNair told Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal, according to Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith. "I really didn't have anything to apologize for ..."In business, it’s a common expression. But the general public doesn’t understand it, perhaps."McNair's comments were met with disdain by players around the league and on his own team. Left tackle Duane Brown, who said McNair also expressed unhappiness for Barack Obama's election in 2008, was among the most vocal on the Texans' roster at the time, but was traded to the Seattle Seahawks midseason. McNair denied Brown's account from 2008 and insinuated that the now-Seahawks left tackle shouldn't be trusted."I don't go into meetings and express views like that," McNair said about Obama's election. "I never said that. (Brown) has no problem saying things that are not true."Brown appeared to respond to McNair's comments with a subtweet on Thursday.
