Two weeks down, forever to go. The Browns came through for us in Week 2 after an early scare, and while we've relatively cruised through the first fortnight of the NFL season, Week 3 presents a much tougher task.Because of that, we're going to approach things a little differently here. While there's no clear-cut pick for me - this week has all the makings of a bloodbath - I'll instead be going through all of the top choices, breaking down what I like and what gives me pause about each.AWAYHOMEPICK (CR)PanthersTexans (+7.5)CAR (8)JetsBroncos (-10.5)DEN (8)RavensLions (+8)BAL (8)WashingtonBills (-8.5)BUF (7)CardinalsJaguars (+7.5)ARI (7)ColtsTitans (-5)TEN (6)BearsBrowns (-7.5)CLE (6)ChargersChiefs (-6.5)KC (5)BengalsSteelers (-4.5)PIT (4)FalconsGiants (-3)NYG (4)SaintsPatriots (-3)NE (3)Packers49ers (-3.5)SF (2)DolphinsRaiders (-3.5)MIA (1)BuccaneersRams (PK)LAR (1)SeahawksVikings (+1.5)MIN (1)EaglesCowboys (-4)DAL (1)Confidence rating (CR) is the author's level of trust in picking the winner of each given gamePanthers (@ Texans)The only reason this isn't a nine on the confidence scale is that it's being played Thursday night. Weird things happen in these games on short rest. Otherwise, all signs point to a lopsided Panthers win. While Sam Darnold and Carolina's offense have impressed, it's the defense that should be turning heads. The unit ranks first through two weeks in both points and yards allowed, as well as yards per play, third-down defense, and sacks. Now it gets to take on a rookie quarterback in Davis Mills, who's making his first career start. Mills got a taste of the pros last week in relief of the injured Tyrod Taylor and struggled to command the offense, going 8 of 18 for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The short week is terrible timing for Mills, who needs all the reps he can get. I also feel much more comfortable backing Joe Brady with less time to prepare than I do Texans coach David Culley, who doubled down on the most baffling decision of the season so far.

Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera doesn't mind the influx of taunting flags across the league through the first two weeks of the NFL season."The idea behind the taunting rule is to prevent the bigger things, OK?" Rivera told reporters Tuesday. "We've had this example where one guy taunts a guy and then the guy comes back for a little payback, and next thing you know you've got a big fight on your hands - you got guys coming from left field hitting each other."The NFL Competition Committee, of which Rivera is a part, informed teams in the offseason that it would crack down on post-play demonstrations in 2021. The league sent a video reel to each club, explaining what officials would and wouldn't tolerate under the stricter guidelines.Officials called eight unsportsmanlike penalties in Week 2, tying the most for a single week since 2000, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. Only 11 taunting penalties were called over the entire 2020 season."I'm all for the celebrations," Rivera said. "Remember, we were the 2015 (Carolina Panthers) team that everybody was mad at because we were dabbing and stuff like that, taking pictures on the sideline. ... You want these guys to keep their personality, you want them to be who they are because these guys are explosive players that make dynamic plays."The intent is so that somebody doesn't do something that gets somebody to come back with a little retribution. You don't want that. You don't want somebody out for revenge. That's what we're trying to prevent."Washington wasn't called for taunting in its first two games of the year.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Houston Texans quarterback Tyrod Taylor is out for Thursday's game against the Carolina Panthers and rookie passer Davis Mills will start, head coach David Culley said Tuesday, according to Deepi Sidhu of HoustonTexans.com.Taylor suffered a hamstring injury Sunday versus the Cleveland Browns and will miss at least three games after being placed on the injured reserve, the Texans announced. The Texans had already said three-time Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson won't be active in Week 3, so the team is expected to bring Jeff Driskel up from the practice squad to serve as Mills' backup.Houston selected Mills in the third round this past April. The Stanford product made his first NFL appearance Sunday in relief of Taylor, tossing for 102 yards and one touchdown against one interception on 8-of-18 passing."He's ready. He's been exactly what you want from your backup QB to be," Culley said of Mills, according to Cole Thompson of FanNation. The Texans also placed third-round rookie wide receiver Nico Collins on the injured reserve, but they're welcoming Anthony Miller back. Miller has yet to play this campaign after joining Houston over the offseason in a trade from the Chicago Bears.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The New England Patriots' lack of deep throwing early this season isn't tied to rookie passer Mac Jones. It's common for NFL teams with rookie quarterbacks at the helm to opt for a conservative approach early. But Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels says that's not the case in New England."I trust him completely," McDaniels said Tuesday, according to Zack Cox of NESN."Believe me, there's not a whole lot we're holding back for him," he added. The average depth of Jones' targets over the team's first two games was 5.7 yards, which ranked 31st among quarterbacks with at least one start, according to PFF.The 15th overall pick is 1-1 as a starter while completing 73.9% of his throws for one touchdown and 476 yards, with his longest passing play being a 32-yarder."I think it's important to have the ability to throw the ball vertically (and) horizontally in every game, and most pass patterns have that element available to them," McDaniels said."I think there's a lot of things that go into that," he continued. "You want to be able to test those areas of the field as you move forward, but I also want (Jones) to make smart decisions. I want him to protect the football, and I want him to be aggressive when it’s time to be aggressive."Jones recently addressed New England's lack of deep passes, saying, "it's about moving the ball and taking what the defense gives you," according to Brian M. Hines of Pats Pulpit.Despite the modest production, Jones has been the most successful first-round quarterback from the 2021 class thus far.QBPass Att.Comp. %YardsTDINTMac Jones6973.946710Trevor Lawrence845045045Zach Wilson7055.746825Justin Fields*1553.37001Trey Lance*1100510* Indicates players who have yet to start a gameCopyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Cleveland Browns placed wide receiver Jarvis Landry on injured reserve due to a knee injury, meaning he'll miss at least the next three weeks, the team announced Tuesday.Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Landry sustained an MCL sprain during Sunday's win against the Houston Texans and was considered week-to-week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Landry was hurt on the opening drive against the Texans. He caught a 9-yard pass on Cleveland's first offensive snap before leaving the field, and the veteran didn't return. The five-time Pro Bowler hauled in five receptions for 71 yards during Cleveland's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, adding 13 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Browns are already playing without wideout Odell Beckham Jr., who's still rehabbing from knee surgery. The team will likely expand the roles given to Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and Anthony Schwartz during Landry's absence.Cleveland will host the Chicago Bears in Week 3.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is dealing with a left pectoral injury, head coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday, according to Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network."That could affect him from a preparation standpoint," Tomlin said, according to KDKA-TV. "Don't have an idea of how much as I sit here right now, but we better be ready to be adjustable."The Las Vegas Raiders hit Roethlisberger 10 times and sacked him twice during the Steelers' 26-17 loss Sunday. The 39-year-old, who's thrown for just 483 yards and two touchdowns this season, has now been hit 16 times through two games."(Roethlisberger) took too many hits. We can run the ball better," Tomlin said, according to Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network.Pittsburgh went into the 2021 campaign with a revamped offensive line after losing multiple starters in the offseason. Despite the early struggles, Tomlin isn't planning to make changes to the unit."We just got to keep working. Development is that," he said. "It doesn't happen in an instant."Roethlisberger is just one of the many key starters to appear on the Steelers' injury report this week, along with linebacker T.J. Watt (ankle) and wide receiver Diontae Johnson (knee), among others.Tomlin didn't provide updates on those players' statuses for Week 3. However, the coach said Johnson's knee ailment is "looking better, (but) not to be confused with great," according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. What a wild ride in the land of teasers last week. Four games qualified as having teaser legs, and in three of them, depending on when you reached into the basket to bet them, each side was viable. When the Raiders and Titans were +5.5, getting them up to +11.5 was the play. The Patriots ran all the way up to -6, making them attractive to tease down to PK. The Broncos never moved off of -6 and covered the spread comfortably while winning outright. Sadly, there were no middles to be had, with no game landing on the favorite by 1-11.Remember, this is about which clubs you should tease from a mathematically correct standpoint. Each leg of a teaser comes at a price of -270, or the price of teasing a 6-point favorite down to PK. Let's use this week's AFC West battle between the Chargers and Chiefs as an example.SpreadOddsKC -6.5-110KC -6-125KC -5.5-138KC -5-145KC -4.5-150KC -4-163KC -3.5-167KC -3-200KC -2.5-225KC -2-240KC -1.5-245KC -1-260KC ML-300If needing the Chiefs to win, would you rather pay -300 on the moneyline or drop the Chiefs down to -0.5 for -270, especially when you can use it to move the line on another game in a beneficial way?Not all teaser legs are created equal. The biggest mistake novice bettors make is teasing through 0. You're wasting valuable price points on a number the game probably won't land on. So how can we maximize the 6-point move? How can we get what we're paying for at -270 per leg?Every week in the NFL is unique - the teasable point spreads can vary. Week 3 is inundated with spreads between 7.5 and 9.5. Mathematically, the -7.5s can be legitimately teased down to -1.5 to surpass key numbers of -3, -6, and -7, while anything from +8.5 to +9.5 can use the teaser to capture two touchdowns for the underdog. Also, a few spreads are lingering around PK, like Buccaneers-Rams and Seahawks-Vikings. Should one team find its way to +1.5, a tease up to +7.5 is an automatic play on either side.Teaser basketTEAMSpreadTeaser legPanthers-7.5-1.5Cardinals-7.5-1.5Browns-7.5-1.5Bengals+4.5+10.5Lions+9+15Washington Football Team+9+15Colts+5+11Chiefs-6.5-0.5Vikings+1.5+7.5Buccaneers+1.5+7.5The rest of the games are lined between -3 and -4, so while you could capture the super-key number of +7 with a tease, -270 is too big a price to pay when you're already getting +3/3.5/4 for -110.These aren't recommendations, but rather a guide to the mathematically sensible options in the "teaser basket" to use if you like a team in its game. Personally, I think the Colts may get blown out should Carson Wentz not be available, so while you're getting a ton of points, I'd still pass. The Chargers are always live to beat the Chiefs, based on how close their games have been the last few years, so be careful there. Fundamentally, take as many legs from the basket as you want that make sense with your handicap of the game.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Instead of telling the football community to relax following his team's disappointing season opener, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers showed more drive in a 35-17 win over the Detroit Lions on Monday night."I think we maybe tried to show that we cared a little bit more tonight," Rodgers said postgame."I just think people like to say a lot of bullshit, and it's nice to come back in here after a game like that."Rodgers and the Packers faced heavy criticism after getting crushed 38-3 by the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. Following the game, questions arose about whether the quarterback and franchise got over their offseason quarrel and if Rodgers already had one foot out the door. The 2020 NFL MVP stayed away from the team during mandatory OTAs but returned ahead of training camp after agreeing to a reworked deal that could hasten his exit from Green Bay following this season.Last week, the 17-year pro cautioned outside observers not to "freak out" after the rough Week 1 loss and was more than happy to prove why Monday."Even more now than when I started playing, there's so many overreactions that happen on a week-to-week basis, so it's nice to come out, have a good performance, and get the trolls off our backs for at least a week," Rodgers said.Rodgers threw for just 133 yards and two interceptions against the Saints in the opener. We're only two weeks into the NFL season, and oddsmakers have already installed a new title favorite. The Buccaneers (+400) moved into pole position in the Super Bowl market after thrashing the Falcons to move to 2-0 on the campaign. The move comes hours after the Chiefs (+450) coughed up an 11-point fourth-quarter lead in Sunday's thrilling 36-35 loss at the Ravens in prime time. The defeat means that Kansas City, which has entered each of the last two years as the preseason favorite, is not favored to win the Super Bowl for the first time since Week 7 of last season - when, ironically, the Ravens were co-favorites with the Seahawks, according to Sports Odds History. The Rams (+700) saw their odds cut in half after escaping the Colts' late rally Sunday, moving into third on the oddsboard. They could vault themselves into the top spot with a home win over the Buccaneers (pk) in a clash between two of the NFL's seven undefeated teams.Six of those seven clubs saw a substantial bump in their title odds Monday. The Raiders (+7500 to +3500) and Broncos (+3300 to +2000) are the AFC's lone 2-0 teams and saw arguably the biggest moves of the week. The Cardinals (+2500) entered the title conversation after a dramatic win over the Vikings. The Panthers (+5000) saw their price slashed following another dominant performance from their young defense.Only the 49ers (+1000 to +1400) saw a dip in their Super Bowl odds after slogging through a road win over the Eagles to move to 2-0. Division rival Seattle (+2500) also took a step back after an inexplicable overtime loss to the Titans, while the Bears (+6000) and Dolphins (+7000) both tumbled down the oddsboard after injuries to their starting QBs.Here are the current Super Bowl odds at theScore Bet and a look at each team's price from a week ago:TEAMODDSLAST WEEKTampa Bay Buccaneers+400+500Kansas City Chiefs+450+430Los Angeles Rams+700+1400Buffalo Bills+1000+1000Cleveland Browns+1200+1500San Francisco 49ers+1400+1000Baltimore Ravens+1400+1400Green Bay Packers+1600+1200Denver Broncos+2000+3300Seattle Seahawks+2500+1600Dallas Cowboys+2500+3000Arizona Cardinals+2500+3500Tennessee Titans+2500+3500New England Patriots+3000+3500New Orleans Saints+3500+2500Las Vegas Raiders+3500+7500Los Angeles Chargers+4000+3000Pittsburgh Steelers+4000+4000Indianapolis Colts+5000+5000Carolina Panthers+5000+8000Chicago Bears+6000+4500Minnesota Vikings+6000+5000Washington Football Team+6000+5000Philadelphia Eagles+6000+9000Miami Dolphins+7000+2800Cincinnati Bengals+10000+13000Atlanta Falcons+30000+6000New York Giants+30000+7500Jacksonville Jaguars+30000+8500New York Jets+30000+13000Houston Texans+30000+20000Detroit Lions+30000+30000C Jackson Cowart is a sports betting writer at theScore. New York Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay said he was yelling at offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and not quarterback Daniel Jones during Thursday's loss to the Washington Football Team, according to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media.Golladay apologized for his outburst and said it wasn't about him wanting the ball more. The wideout added that there are no issues between him and Garrett, as they spoke after the game."I let the emotions get the best of me," Golladay said. "Me talking to JG a little bit. That's two competitive guys right there and mostly just me just wanting to do everything I can, not so much get me the ball more, though."The incident was captured on the broadcast, prompting questions over whether Golladay was shouting at Jones. The quarterback said he didn't believe he was the target of the outburst and that it was likely a result of the receiver's frustration with the team's situation.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich said it's too early to tell if Carson Wentz will suit up for Week 3 after he sprained both ankles against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Despite the quarterback's injury woes, Reich expressed optimism about Wentz's tolerance for pain."I know Carson has a tremendous threshold for pain," Reich added, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic. "My history with Carson: He's an incredibly fast healer, plus if there's any chance he can play with these (injuries), he'll play."The 28-year-old sprained his left ankle earlier in Sunday's game but attempted to play through it, Reich said. However, Wentz did not return after injuring his right ankle in the fourth quarter following an awkward tackle by Aaron Donald.Jacob Eason took the reins under center following Wentz's removal. The second-year pro attempted five passes and threw a late interception to Jalen Ramsey, which sealed the Colts' 27-24 defeat.Reich is confident Eason will be prepared to take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 if needed, stating, "If Jacob has to play, he'll be ready."Wentz has been sidelined for a significant portion of his Colts tenure after joining in the offseason. An MRI revealed Chicago Bears quarterback Andy Dalton suffered a bone bruise in his knee during Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Dalton's status for the Week 3 contest against the Cleveland Browns is reportedly unclear. The Bears said Monday that Dalton will remain the starter over rookie Justin Fields if healthy, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.Earlier Monday, head coach Matt Nagy declined multiple times to say whether Dalton would stay in the lineup, offering "scheme" as the reason for not revealing the information. A Bears official later told the media the veteran will remain the starter if he's able to play, adding that Nagy misunderstood the question.Dalton left Sunday's matchup after scrambling and landing awkwardly on Chicago's sideline. He briefly returned to the game but headed to the locker room before halftime.Nagy said postgame that the team was confident the 33-year-old Dalton hadn't suffered a torn ACL, but the Bears were still determining the extent of the injury.Fields, the No. 11 pick in the draft, completed 6 of 13 passes for 60 yards and an interception while adding 31 yards on the ground.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is considered day-to-day with a rib injury, head coach Brian Flores said Monday, according to Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post. The sophomore passer left Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills in the first quarter while trailing 7-0 and did not return.Tagovailoa is still in a lot of pain and will undergo more tests, Flores said. However, his X-rays came back negative and he avoided any additional injury or cartilage damage, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. If he's available, Tagovailoa will play in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders."If Tua can go, he's gonna go. That's the kind of kid he is," Flores said, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.He was 1-for-4 for 13 yards in his two drives against Buffalo. Backup Jacoby Brissett finished the game, going 24-for-40 for 169 yards and an interception in the 35-0 defeat.Tagovailoa was 16 of 27 for 202 yards, a score, and an interception in a 17-16 win over the New England Patriots in Week 1.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. T.J. Watt has seemingly avoided a serious injury. There's a chance the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker could play in Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals after suffering a groin injury during a Week 2 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Watt exited the contest in the second quarter and was unable to return. The pass-rusher was in the midst of another strong game while notching a strip sack of Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and four tackles. The Steelers' defense is already dealing with several injuries. Defensive tackle Tyson Alualu fractured his ankle in the first quarter this past Sunday, and cornerback Joe Haden and linebacker Devin Bush missed the matchup with groin injuries.Watt inked an extension just before the start of the season, reportedly becoming the NFL's highest-paid defensive player with his four-year, $112-million contract.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson won't be active for Thursday's game against the Carolina Panthers despite starter Tyrod Taylor suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2, head coach David Culley said Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Taylor, who's considered day-to-day, reportedly won't be able to play against the Panthers. Third-round rookie Davis Mills will likely start the prime-time matchup after stepping in during Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns following Taylor's injury.Watson has been a healthy scratch for the first two weeks of the season amid police and NFL investigations into allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior. Twenty-two women filed lawsuits against Watson, and 10 women have also filed criminal complaints against him.Watson requested a trade during the offseason. The Texans reportedly want a six-piece package of players and draft picks in return for their franchise player.Mills threw for 102 yards and one touchdown against one interception Sunday. Houston will likely promote Jeff Driskel from the practice squad to back up the rookie.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Sunday of Week 2 was exhausting compared to Week 1. Grinding through a really poor slate of early games and into the complete chaos of the four late-afternoon contests left me on empty for the Sunday nighter. Here are the movers and shakers in my ratings following a busy Sunday, which ended with a few teams losing their starting quarterback.A bunch of big injuriesAndy Dalton came up lame on a scramble, and the much-hyped Justin Fields came up lame in relief. While the Ohio State product is likely Chicago's future franchise passer, we deal with the present. So despite the team's defense pushing it to a win, the Bears need to be downgraded with the rookie at the helm (43/100 from 49).In Indianapolis, the high-wire act that is betting on Carson Wentz ended with a tumble into the safety net this week (a loss but a cover against the spread), and the signal-caller suffering an ankle injury. Jacob Eason entered, and "Eason season" was worse than a Manitoba winter. The Colts need to be rated at the back end of their range with Eason leading the club's offense, which for me is 30/100 - especially if opposing quarterbacks are going to shred Indy's defense.Meanwhile, Tyrod Taylor has already been ruled out for Thursday night after hobbling into the end zone due to a bad hamstring. It's a shame, too, because the Texans were going to get another boost after hanging in there in Cleveland. Instead, we'll see Davis Mills on a short week. Houston is downgraded to the bottom of its range (20), with head coach David Culley's shocking decision-making following an offside penalty contributing to the plunge. Finally, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left early with a rib injury. The Bills then added insult to said injury, though the scoreboard was somewhat flattering to Buffalo since Miami couldn't do much with Jacoby Brissett under center. The Dolphins must be downgraded if Tua misses time, but a week of first-team practice reps should help Brissett, so I'll just drop them from 62 to 50 and go from there. The 'Chiefs tax' strikes againKansas City didn't get away with it this time. The Chiefs have now covered in just two of their last 14 games, and if the majority of those results hadn't come in wins, we'd be comparing the team's profitability to Jacksonville. My ratings for the Chiefs and Ravens don't change because they spit out a fair point spread of Kansas City -0.5 before Sunday night. If it ain't broke.Kicking woes continueThe Vikings proved some things to people who were quick to jump off the ship after Week 1. Then their kicker Greg Joseph speared those of us on the moneyline square in the heart against the Cardinals. I'm bumping up the Vikings a hair and dropping Arizona after its defense couldn't replicate a strong Week 1 performance. These two teams now meet at 60/100, which feels about right after a wild affair.Randy Bullock seemed to cost Titans backers a cover before totally redeeming himself. In true Week 2 fashion, the Titans aren't as bad as previously indicated, and the Seahawks aren't as good as many were believing after Week 1. Tennessee's rushing offense needs to be effective for the team to play to its rating of 60, as poor pass protection could have resulted in a blowout in Seattle. Next time the Titans might not be so lucky.Box score realityThe other NFC West teams need to be downgraded, only because those clubs were probably flying too high following solid Week 1 showings. The Rams' defense allowed the Colts to advance inside the 5-yard line twice, but the unit was shockingly able to hold Indy to zero points on those drives. Those results were outliers, and the Colts probably win the game otherwise.Elsewhere, our hypothesis that the Eagles' defense might be really good this year still stands. But that doesn't excuse the 49ers’ lackluster offense on Sunday, or the 6.0 yards per play given up defensively. They won the high-leverage plays to get the cover, but San Francisco didn't perform like a top-tier team, in part due to injuries that are once again piling up for Kyle Shanahan’s squad. The Rrrrrrrraiders!A clash against the Steelers was supposed to be a brutal matchup for Las Vegas, and maybe it would have been if T.J. Watt hadn't ended up in sweats by halftime. The Raiders can't be ignored, so they move up. And Ben Roethlisberger looked just as bad at home in Week 2 as he did during Week 1 on the road. I'm dropping the Steelers from 60 to 55.Falcons stumble againAnother misleading score, and another working hypothesis gets more support. We've thought the Falcons are - somewhat intentionally - horrendous. While their defense did enough for them to cover 12.5 points against the Buccaneers (yardage totals would suggest the game should have ended in a five-point Falcons loss), a potential ATS win fell apart because no one thinks Matt Ryan is willing to throw more than five yards downfield.Deflections at the line of scrimmage were plentiful, leading to two soul-crushing late pick-6 interceptions. Atlanta drops further as a result, going from 38 to 35.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. If there’s a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens conquered their kryptonite Sunday night, defeating the AFC powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs in thrilling comeback fashion. The Ravens were 0-3 against the Chiefs with Jackson under center before battling back for a 36-35 victory."It feels good to get that monkey off our back," Jackson said after the game. The Ravens were in danger of falling to 0-2 after an overtime loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in the season opener.Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had never lost or thrown an interception in September. However, a Mahomes turnover helped spur 12 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull out the win for Baltimore. But Jackson was quick to keep things in perspective after the game, switching his focus to the Ravens' Week 3 opponent: the Detroit Lions."Gotta move on to Detroit now. We ain't win the Super Bowl yet. It's just one game," he said.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Houston Texans quarterback Tyrod Taylor suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's 31-21 loss to the Cleveland Browns and wasn't able to finish the game.Taylor will have an MRI on his hamstring Monday to determine the severity of his ailment, but he won't be available to play against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football in Week 3, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Davis Mills will likely replace Taylor. Mills, a third-round rookie, took over at quarterback for the Texans against Cleveland after Taylor was sidelined. The 32-year-old Taylor was limping on the field after scoring a 15-yard rushing touchdown late in the second quarter. The veteran passer still played one more offensive possession before halftime, but he was eventually ruled out.Mills threw for 102 yards and one touchdown against one interception on 8-of-18 passing in his first NFL appearance.Taylor, who joined Houston as a free agent this year, led the Texans past the Jacksonville Jaguars with a solid performance in Week 1, and he was producing another strong outing against the Browns. The veteran completed 10 of 11 pass attempts for 125 yards and one touchdown before being sidelined with the game tied 14-14.With Taylor sidelined and Mills set to start, it's unclear who will be Houston's backup passer in Week 3.The Texans' quarterback depth chart also features Deshaun Watson, who was inactive for the second straight game Sunday despite not being given an injury designation.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. Chicago Bears rookie Justin Fields stepped in at quarterback after Andy Dalton exited Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a knee injury.Dalton was taken to the locker room with two minutes left in the first half. Fields played the rest of the contest while leading Chicago to a 20-17 win.Head coach Matt Nagy told reporters postgame he believes the veteran dodged an ACL injury, and Dalton will undergo an MRI on Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Dalton went 10-for-11 passing for 67 yards and a touchdown prior to leaving with the injury. He also ran the ball twice for 25 yards against his former team of nine years.Meanwhile, Fields went 6-for-13 for 60 yards and an interception and ran seven times for 35 yards.Nagy added he would be confident with Fields starting if Dalton's injury forces him to miss time.“(Fields is) farther along than we thought he’d be at this point," Nagy said, according to Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times. Justin Fields will get more chances to shine in Week 2.The Chicago Bears intend to give the rookie quarterback increased snaps against the Cincinnati Bengals, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports."He's growing every day. They are essentially head over heels in love with him."They use these packages as growth moments for Fields. No moment is too big, so expect to see (more from) him."Fields played five snaps, including three in the red zone, during last week's 34-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He ran for his first NFL touchdown and completed two passes for 10 yards.Andy Dalton, who joined Chicago as a free agent this offseason, is currently the team's starter. The veteran completed 27 of 38 passes for 206 yards while also recording one interception and a fumble in Week 1.Calls for the No. 11 overall pick to start over Dalton increased during Fields' strong preseason, as he racked up 276 yards and three touchdowns against zero interceptions while adding 92 yards and a score on the ground. Frank Gore has declined interest from NFL teams this year to focus on a career shift to boxing, he told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Although the legendary running back says he hasn't decided if he wants to play football again, he isn't ruling out a return just yet."I've been training for both - football and boxing," Gore said. "I've always loved boxing, so that's what I've been doing. And we're trying to make a fight happen. "I felt like, 'Man, I couldn't fight.' And I always like a challenge. So, I kept doing it and doing it, and I saw myself getting better and better."The 38-year-old played for the New York Jets last season and moved into third place on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 16,000 yards. Dallas Cowboys right tackle La'el Collins is appealing his five-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.Though he'll begin serving the ban Sunday, Collins believes his missed drug tests were due to excused absences.Collins missed a test last November after the team was sent home the day Cowboys strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul died. He also missed a test the same day of his uncle's funeral, a source told Schefter. The Cowboys reportedly gave Collins permission to leave the team to be with his family.Additionally, Collins missed a test last October the day he had hip surgery. Although the league counted a positive result for codeine against Collins, he was prescribed the drug following the procedure, per Schefter.Collins hasn't tested positive for marijuana in the past 18 months. His representation is arguing suspensions aren't permitted for missed tests under the new collective bargaining agreement.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Dallas Cowboys are moving rookie linebacker Micah Parsons to defensive end, starting with Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Dallas has already lost several starting pass-rushers this season, leading to the move. DeMarcus Lawrence is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks after breaking his foot in practice Wednesday, while Randy Gregory was placed on the COVID-19 list. The Cowboys have strong depth at linebacker to compensate for Parsons' shift. Keanu Neal will likely continue to start alongside Leighton Vander Esch, while Jaylon Smith's role should increase.Parsons played defensive end in high school and was still used extensively as a pass-rusher at Penn State after moving to inside linebacker. Dallas continued to grow that part of his game during training camp, with Lawrence guiding the former first-rounder."Last week, we were watching film of pass rush and D-Law came up to me," Parsons said in the spring, "And (he) was like, 'You pass rush like that, Rook?' Free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman is drawing lots of interest.Multiple teams have called about the veteran defender in recent days, reports NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reached out after starting corner Sean Murphy-Bunting dislocated his elbow in Week 1, Pelissero reports. Additionally, the San Francisco 49ers - who've stayed in contact with their former corner - expressed interest in signing Sherman later this season after Jason Verrett tore his ACL.Sherman, who spent the past three seasons with San Francisco, expects to play again this year.Clouding the situation is Sherman's July arrest for attempting to force his way into his in-laws' residence. He was initially arrested for burglary domestic violence, but the charge was downgraded to a misdemeanor of criminal trespass with a domestic violence designation. The 33-year-old has since been undergoing therapy.Sherman's asking price is also a factor. The 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and New Orleans Saints showed interest in the 10-year vet early in free agency but were unwilling to meet his demands. The former member of the Legion of Boom was named a Pro Bowler as recently as 2019. We've got a great game on tap for the latest edition of Sunday Night Football. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs visit a Baltimore Ravens team looking to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start while also trying to avenge last season's 34-20 home loss to this same Chiefs squad on Monday Night Football. Here's how we're betting Chiefs-Ravens:Ty'Son Williams 50+ rushing yards (+114)The Ravens' offense clearly showed it's a work in progress during Monday's overtime loss to the Raiders, finishing with 217 passing yards, four fumbles, and a 3-for-12 rate on third down. The one positive was the unit's always prolific rushing attack, and Williams was at the forefront. The second-year back looked electric in his NFL debut, turning nine carries into 65 yards as Baltimore's lead rusher. Williams' dynamic play in Week 1 - highlighted by a 35-yard TD scamper in the first quarter - should earn him the highest share of a three-headed backfield in Week 2.That's a valuable role against a Kansas City defense that surrendered 153 rushing yards to the Browns a week ago and allowed 17 backs to rush for 50-plus yards through 16 regular-season games in 2020. Add Williams to the list for this year - especially at plus money.- C Jackson CowartLatavius Murray anytime TD (+225)There are no posted totals for Murray rushing yards this week, but I don't anticipate that being the case much longer. The club signed him just days before the opener, and he still out-carried Williams 10-9. Murray didn't have the same explosiveness, but Williams missed a couple key blocks and, despite being featured early, the second-year back wound up playing just 11 snaps on the Ravens' final seven drives.Baltimore also leaned on the veteran in short-yardage situations, including the team's only carry inside the 10 - an eight-yard touchdown. Murray's role is only going to expand as he gets more practice time with the offense, while his size at 6'3", 220 lbs. and durability - just one fumble in the last three campaigns - make him the perfect guy to turn to in goal-to-go situations. The threat of Lamar Jackson calling his own number always looms large, but that's more than baked into this price. Murray is being priced like he's an afterthought in this offense - you can't even find a rushing total for him! - but he's the ideal fit for Greg Roman's rushing attack and will be a key cog sooner than later.Cleveland gashed the Chiefs' run defense in the opener, and the unit now faces a similarly tough test against a dangerous and unpredictable Ravens attack. There should be plenty of opportunities for this bet to cash after Kansas City allowed four rushing touchdowns in Week 1 - three from five yards or shorter, which is where Murray does his best work.- Alex MorettoLamar Jackson under 20.5 pass completionsSome games are better left un-bet. I'm not willing to pay the Chiefs tax on Sunday night. Kansas City has a knack for winning but not covering, as evidenced by a 1-10-1 record against the spread in its last 12 games. I don't want to bet on Baltimore here either, with injuries piling up on both sides of the ball. But since passing on a Sunday night game is not what we do, we'll make a bet about passing that can cash in conjunction with either side covering the spread. If the Ravens win this game, it's going to be because their run game was able to maintain drives and create explosive plays to keep up with the Chiefs' offense, paired with a less aggressive defensive strategy that forces Mahomes to take yardage in smaller increments.Kansas City won this matchup last season with 21 second-quarter points, forcing Baltimore to play from behind. Even with a negative game script, Jackson completed just 15 passes. With a disheveled offensive line, that could very well be the case again.Whether the Ravens have success in the run game to help themselves or need to pass more frequently than they'd like, there's reason to believe betting under 20.5 pass completions for Jackson is a good move for Sunday night.- Matt RussellCopyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. Before you make your NFL bets this weekend, it's worth knowing which side other bettors are backing - especially on games drawing sharp action. We talked to Jay Rood, Bet.Works' chief risk officer and theScore Bet's head trader, to see how sharps and public bettors are playing this week's slate.Saints (-3.5, 44.5) @ Panthers, 1 p.m. ETThe game drawing the most activity in the early going is this NFC South clash, and bettors are backing the road favorites so far.The Saints have seen twice as much money wagered on a 3-to-1 advantage in bets placed, moving the line from an opening 3 up to 3.5. Parlay bettors are even more skeptical of the Panthers, betting against them at a 7-to-1 clip. Rood expects the line to stick at 3.5, though, despite the heavy public run."That'll be a pivotal game for us in the morning," Rood said. "We'll need the Panthers, for sure."Raiders @ Steelers (-6.5, 47), 1 p.m.While the public is all over the Saints, pro bettors have targeted the Steelers in the morning slot, betting them from -5.5 up to -6.5 as of Saturday morning after last week's win as an outright 'dog.Bettors have placed twice as many wagers but a whopping 30 times as much money on Pittsburgh, which is also drawing a narrow advantage in parlay activity over the Raiders. Ultimately, though, this is a decision that'll be decided by a handful of sharp plays."Looks like it's more of a Pros game than a Joes game," Rood said. "We're gonna need the Raiders big time."49ers (-3, 49.5) @ Eagles, 1 p.m.Sharps haven't focused on this one quite to the extent of Steelers-Raiders, but the Eagles are still drawing plenty of big-money bettors after an impressive Week 1 showing against the Falcons. As of late Friday, Philadelphia was running nearly even in bet count with the 49ers but had pulled 15 times as much money wagered on the point spread with a 9-to-1 edge on the moneyline, too. That comes despite parlay bettors placing twice as much money on the Niners - suggesting a potential run of public money yet to come on the road favorites in the straight-bet market."I think we'll start to pull in some 49ers money at kickoff," Rood said. "We'll see if we outpace the early action or not."Chiefs (-3.5, 54.5) @ Ravens, 8:20 p.m.Here's an early decision that should surprise no one: The public loves the Chiefs, betting on Patrick Mahomes and Co. in a potentially dangerous road spot against the reeling Ravens.Baltimore has covered 10 of its last 11 games as an underdog but is being bet against at a 7-to-1 clip in money on eight times as many bet slips. It's even more lopsided in the parlay market, where bettors have placed 30 times as much money on the defending AFC champions.Rood says he hesitates to move this game off 3.5, especially with the Ravens on the other side. If the money keeps rolling in, though, he may have no choice."It's light activity so far, but it's all Chiefs," Rood said Friday. "I don't see that slowing down over the course of the weekend until kickoff. It's lining up to be a little ugly."C Jackson Cowart is a sports betting writer at theScore. Brandon Aiyuk was caught off guard after not being targeted once in Week 1, but the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver is already looking forward to bouncing back against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday."Definitely (surprised), but that was last week," Aiyuk said, according to NBC Sports. "Not really focused on that anymore. Another task at hand this week."He added, "I've already started to understand in this league that it's never a steady path to the top ... You're going to have really high moments, low moments. I think it's all about how you refocus, rebalance, and get back on track afterwards."Aiyuk stood out as a first-round rookie in 2020, leading his team with 60 catches for 748 yards and five touchdowns on 96 targets through only 12 games. The Arizona State product, who also had two rushing scores, played in 66% of San Francisco's offensive snaps. However, the 23-year-old was on the field for only 26 offensive snaps (47%) during the 49ers' win against the Detroit Lions in Week 1, and he finished the game with zero targets for the first time in his NFL career.Aiyuk's limited participation gave wideout Trent Sherfield an opportunity to impress. Sherfield, who joined the 49ers on a one-year deal in the offseason, amassed 23 yards and one touchdown on two receptions while playing 27 offensive snaps.San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan recently explained why Aiyuk wasn't on the field as often as expected."It's not a doghouse. It's just a pretty simple thing," Shanahan said, according to David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone. "Trent Sherfield has played at a very high level every single day for the entire training camp. Aiyuk got off to a little bit of a slow start, and Trent was playing very well."Shanahan added Aiyuk "would have got that spot completely back" if it wasn't for a hamstring injury that limited the receiver at practice days before the season opener.Deebo Samuel carried the load at wide receiver for the 49ers against the Lions, catching nine passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. We kicked off the NFL season with a 2-1 record on our best bets, which might have been 3-0 if not for Ryan Fitzpatrick's injury during the first half of Washington's loss to the Chargers. We'll chalk that up to bad luck as we shoot for perfection in Week 2.Bills (-3.5, 48) @ Dolphins, 1 p.m. ETThe Bills' Super Bowl hype train suffered a serious blow in Week 1 with an ugly loss to the Steelers, whom oddsmakers are still pricing as an underdog to make the playoffs. Pittsburgh sacked Josh Allen three times and hurried him on 12.7% of his throws - second-most by any team in Week 1 - to produce one of Allen's worst games since before his star turn in 2020.Now he'll face a Dolphins defense that ranked second in blitz rate (52.5%) in Week 1 and knocked down Patriots quarterback Mac Jones on 20.5% of his pass attempts, by far the most by any defense in the NFL last week. The Bills embarrassed Brian Flores' defense the last time they played. Expect an aggressive response Sunday, and don't be surprised by an outright win.Pick: Dolphins +3.5Saints (-3.5, 44.5) @ Panthers, 1 p.m.Yes, the Saints were thoroughly dominant in a Week 1 beatdown of the Packers, but let's not overreact too much to one impressive week. Jameis Winston turned heads with five touchdowns and zero turnovers, but it was also the first time since Week 2 of the 2019 season when he finished a game with zero interceptions or fumbles - and only because a questionable roughing the passer call erased what would have been a third-quarter interception. The Panthers' burgeoning young defense passed its first test by stifling the Jets in Week 1 - which ranked as a top-four performance by DVOA and PFF - and will certainly tempt Winston to beat himself in his first true road test of the campaign. On the other side, Sam Darnold flashed his high-end arm talent in his Carolina debut and limited mistakes within Joe Brady's offense, which schemed open plenty of throws to this team's array of electric pass-catchers.Pricing the Saints as a touchdown better than the Panthers on a neutral field felt like an overreaction when this line opened. It's even more of one given the injuries New Orleans sustained in Week 1 and the COVID-19 outbreak that has sidelined several coaches ahead of Sunday. It all adds up to a value spot for Carolina, which has covered seven of its last nine as an underdog.Pick: Panthers +3.5Rams (-3.5, 47.5) @ Colts, 1 p.m.I liked the Colts entering this season, and I still like their chances of competing for the division and a potential playoff spot down the line. But it's clear that short-term injuries have taken a toll on this offense, and Indy's defense isn't quite ready to stand toe-to-toe with the NFL's most prolific scoring attacks. At a glance, Carson Wentz (251 yards, two TDs) impressed in his Colts debut, though his battered O-line meant settling for mostly quick throws and screen passes. That won't be enough to beat a Rams defense that will gladly give up empty yardage without surrendering big plays. Indianapolis had zero plays of 25 yards or more Sunday, allowing the Seahawks to key on the Colts' otherwise dangerous rushing attack.Similarly, the Bears' longest pass completion last week was 19 yards and their offense never found a rhythm, while the Rams gleefully threw bomb after bomb against Chicago's overmatched secondary. Expect a similar game plan against the Colts, who were helpless against Russell Wilson's deep ball and face a similarly daunting challenge against Matthew Stafford and Co. in this one.Pick: Rams -3.5C Jackson Cowart is a sports betting writer at theScore. The Arizona Cardinals could sign linebacker Chandler Jones to a new deal in just a matter of time.Jones - who requested a trade during the offseason due to his contract situation - kicked off the 2021 campaign with a 5-sack performance against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, putting extra pressure on the Cardinals to extend him.Arizona general manager Steve Keim addressed Jones' potential extension Friday, saying the matter of the team wanting to get a deal done is an "easy question," according to Kevin Zimmerman of 98.7 Arizona Sports."We're not in the business of moving on and getting rid of good football players," Keim said. However, Keim refused to reveal where the negotiations currently stand."You always want to get good players under contract," he said, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com. "But there are always a million different moving parts. I have to continue to look at the roster moving forward, generally from a three-year standpoint."Jones, 31, has one year left on a five-year, $82.5-million extension he signed in 2017, and he's set to make $15.5 million in 2021.The three-time Pro Bowler racked up five sacks and two forced fumbles against the Titans in the first contest since his trade request, becoming the only player to have multiple games with at least four sacks or two-plus forced fumbles within the last 20 NFL seasons."I can't be more proud of a player than I am of Chandler Jones," Keim said. "The way he came back from that bicep injury. He came to camp in probably the best shape of his career. Really lean, you can see it in his play, his explosiveness, his first step, his repertoire of pass rush moves. He came back with a vengeance."Jones led the Cards in sacks for three straight campaigns from 2017-19, setting up career highs with 19 sacks and eight forced fumbles during the 2019 season. However, a torn bicep limited him to only five appearances and one sack in 2020.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

New Orleans Saints star corner Marshon Lattimore will likely be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers as he manages a thumb injury, head coach Sean Payton said Friday, according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.Lattimore, who was officially listed as questionable on Friday's injury report, picked up the injury in Week 1's win over the Green Bay Packers and subsequently underwent surgery. He is considered week-to-week.The three-time Pro Bowler recorded three tackles and one pass defensed in the season opener. He had 62 tackles and two interceptions in 14 games last season. If Lattimore is unable to play, stopping Panthers wideouts DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, and Terrace Marshall will fall on Ken Crawley, Desmond Trufant, and Paulson Adebo.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New Orleans Saints will face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday without seven assistant coaches due to COVID-19 protocols, the club announced.Jim Chaney, Declan Doyle, Phil Galiano, Curtis Johnson, Brendan Nugent, Dan Roushar, and Joel Thomas will all miss the contest. Galiano serves as the assistant special teams coach, while the other six coaches work on the offensive side of the ball. The Saints knew earlier in the week that they might be shorthanded against the Panthers following several positive tests.

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs won't play in Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to toe and ankle injuries, head coach Jon Gruden announced Friday, per Tashan Reed of The Athletic. However, pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue will suit up despite dealing with a hamstring ailment.Gruden suggested Peyton Barber could replace Jacobs instead of Kenyan Drake, who primarily produced as a pass-catcher in his Raiders debut in Week 1."We're excited about the opportunity for Peyton Barber. We really like Peyton Barber," said Gruden when asked about Drake's opportunity with Jacobs sidelined, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic.Las Vegas was concerned earlier in the week that Ngakoue, one of its other major free-agent additions, was dealing with a long-term issue.Jacobs had two touchdowns and 34 rushing yards in the Raiders' overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens. Ngakoue, meanwhile, had five total tackles and one quarterback hit.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Green Bay Packers will place Pro Bowl edge rusher Za'Darius Smith on injured reserve with a back injury that he's dealt with since the preseason, according to Jason Wilde of The Athletic."We're going to have to shut him down for a while," head coach Matt LaFleur said Friday, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "Do you keep him in a limited (capacity) or do you shut him down for a while and try to get him up to the snap count we'd like him to be (at)?"Smith played only 18 (or 29%) of the defensive snaps in Week 1, a far cry from his normal work rate. The 29-year-old posted 26 sacks over his first two seasons in Green Bay, emerging as one of the top pass-rushers in the NFL after beginning his career in a complementary role with the Baltimore Ravens.Smith endured a somewhat turbulent offseason in Green Bay. At one point, he hinted at discontent with his contract. The Packers later omitted him from their list of captains for the first time since he signed with the club in 2019.The Packers are expected to feature Preston Smith and Rashan Gary as their primary edge rushers until their top sack artist returns.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. A little more than a year ago, there were genuine doubts about Derek Carr and his future with the Las Vegas Raiders.Early in his career, Carr had been solid enough to earn a market-setting second contract. Then he settled into a dichotomous groove: Though one of the NFL's most efficient passers, Carr was also among its least aggressive. In 2019, Carr ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in most advanced quarterback metrics. But, as PFF's Sam Monson noted, he was also the league's checkdown king. Entering the 2020 season, Carr had three years remaining on the extension he signed in 2016 that paid him an average of $25 million per year. The remainder of that contract was not guaranteed, however, and Vegas brought in Marcus Mariota to peer over his shoulder.Carr indeed had something to prove last year. Yet while the Raiders stumbled to an 8-8 finish - whiffing on the playoffs for the third time in as many seasons under head coach Jon Gruden - he quietly went out and validated his status as an above-average starter. And during Monday night's overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens, he largely picked up where he left off. Christian Petersen / Getty ImagesIn 2019, Carr's average completed air yards (CAY) was a pop-gun 4.9, per Next Gen Stats - a figure that ranked ahead of only Drew Lock, Teddy Bridgewater, and the Pittsburgh Steelers' desperate backup platoon of Devlin Hodges and Mason Rudolph. Similarly, his aggressiveness - a Next Gen Stat that measures tight-window throws in which a defender is within 1 yard of a pass catcher - was just 11.7%, which ranked next-to-last among qualified QBs. And his average intended air yards (IAY) per attempt of 6.9 ranked dead last. The Raiders emphasized getting Carr some field-stretching help in 2020, drafting Henry Ruggs III in the first round and Lynn Bowden Jr. and Bryan Edwards in the third round, as well as acquiring Nelson Agholor in free agency. Carr responded by taking additional risks and firing the ball downfield more without sacrificing much in the way of efficiency.Gruden's strength is coaching offense, and he's done a decent job scheming things up for Carr. Carr made big jumps in CAY (5.9), IAY (8.2), and aggressiveness (16.2%), all of which moved him into the middle of the pack. At the same time, Carr still finished in the top 10 in two of Football Outsiders' overall measurements: DYAR (seventh) and QB DVOA (ninth). He also was 10th in expected points added per play, according to Ben Baldwin's database. (For a guide to EPA/play, read this.) Carr's completion percentage over expected - a Next Gen Stat that measures accuracy - was ninth. His interception rate was tied for 10th, and he was 11th in Total QBR.Carr took more shots downfield, attempting 60 throws of 20 or more air yards after launching just 48 in 2019, according to PFF. And his adjusted completion rate (53.3%) on those deep shots was the best in the league. Having Agholor, who hauled in 11 of those deep balls - six of which went for touchdowns - certainly helped. But Agholor has since moved on to the New England Patriots. Christian Petersen / Getty ImagesSo why was Vegas so mediocre after starting the 2020 season 6-3? As ever, the problem was the defense, which finished 28th in DVOA, mostly because it couldn't get off the field on third down. The Raiders were last in DVOA on third downs with 3-6 yards to go, and next-to-last on third-and-7 or more yards to go. It's a pattern that extends well before 2020, too. Carr entered the league in 2014, and in that time, Vegas' D finished higher than 24th just once - when it was 16th in 2015. Carr has basically spent his entire career with a defense that's been in the bottom quarter of the NFL.Yet even as the Raiders lost five of their last seven a year ago, they still averaged 25.5 points per game and scored fewer than 25 points just once. From Week 11 onward, Carr ranked a respectable 13th in EPA/play. He did all this even as the offense ranked 27th in adjusted games lost due to injury, per Football Outsiders.Carr got off to a solid - if also flawed - start in Monday's wild and wacky win against the Ravens. He did this despite no longer having Agholor and playing behind an offensive line featuring three new starters after the head-scratching decisions to trade center Rodney Hudson and right guard Gabe Jackson. In other words, he was above average.Carr began the game rather poorly, completing just two of his first 10 passes and fumbling (though the Raiders recovered) as Vegas spotted Baltimore a 14-0 lead. Fumbles are a problem for Carr: He's led the league in that category twice in the last three seasons and has fumbled 30 times in the last three seasons, fourth-most in the league. Chris Unger / Getty ImagesBut Carr got it together to orchestrate a pair of scoring drives before halftime to cut the Ravens' lead to 14-10. He then went 22-of-31 for 308 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the second half, with a noteworthy improvement against the blitz, per Next Gen Stats: After going 2-of-9 for 31 yards and a minus-5.2 EPA against five or more pass rushers in the first three quarters, Carr was 7-of-11 for 156 yards, a TD, and an EPA of 12.7 in the fourth quarter and OT.The game's rabid finish caught most of the attention, but Carr was sensational on the drive that tied the game at 24 with 3:44 to play, going 6-of-8 for 82 yards - a march that included a throwaway. Baltimore took the lead with 37 seconds to go, but Carr then had two terrific completions to Edwards mixed with a pair of clock-stopping spikes to set up the game-tying field goal at the end of regulation. Carr picked apart a Ravens defense that was strangely content to bring a three-man rush. It was Carr's league-leading 22nd fourth-quarter comeback since he entered the NFL in 2014.Carr wasn't perfect by any means. There was that fumble, plus two instances (here and here) in which he failed to see wide-open targets streaking downfield. He also bizarrely used a hard cadence on the goal line that resulted in a false start penalty against rookie right tackle Alex Leatherwood. And his interception two plays later happened because Carr fired the ball much too high and hard at a wide-open Willie Snead IV."It reminded me so much of my career so far," Carr told ESPN afterward. Motioning his arm up and down, he added, "A lot of this."The defense came through this time by forcing a turnover to get Carr the ball back - and he finished the job by connecting with Zay Jones for the 31-yard game-winner. Las Vegas' much-maligned defense has its work cut out for it in what's shaping up to be an excellent AFC West. But in Derek Carr, the Raiders also have a better-than-average starting quarterback who figures to keep them competitive.Dom Cosentino is a senior features writer at theScore.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc. If you bet a bunch of overs on player props in Week 1, you went into the new season rooting for human achievement. The problem? The collective humanity of NFL defenses was often more impressive, littering accounts with dead tickets on player-prop overs.Let's dive in and take a more discerning approach heading into this Sunday as we seek out the best value plays.Allen Robinson over 72.5 receiving yardsRobinson finished with only 35 yards on 11 targets in Week 1 against the Rams, who often put Jalen Ramsey on him or double-teamed the pass-catcher, or forced the Bears to run the ball. He'll look more like himself on Sunday against the Bengals, who couldn't stop Justin Jefferson or Adam Thielen in Week 1.Brandin Cooks under 61.5 receiving yardsThe Texans' Week 1 win wasn't a fluke, but it may not have happened without a pair of ridiculous catches in traffic from Cooks. Now that there's game tape on Houston, the Browns can plainly see that Cooks is the only Texans skill-position player who can cause them issues. They'll lock him up and force anyone else to beat them.Josh Allen interception: Yes +105The Dolphins' defense is the new-age version of a quality unit. Rather than smothering the opposition, they find ways to create turnovers.Last week, Miami managed to secure two critical fumbles. This week, the Dolphins will get their hands on a pass from Josh Allen, whose tendency to be inaccurate surfaced again in Week 1.James Robinson under 39.5 rushing yardsIf Urban Meyer made rational coaching decisions, Robinson would have been given more than five carries against the Texans. However, for reasons known only to Meyer, Carlos Hyde received the majority of the carries in Week 1.Robinson will get buried again in Week 2 either because of Meyer's decision-making, or the game script impacting the Jaguars' run-pass ratio.Jonathan Taylor over 60.5 rushing yardsMaybe the Rams dare Carson Wentz to beat them. But if their plan is similar to Sunday night, Taylor should be able to churn out some yards for the Colts. That should be Plan A for Indy as they turn to their workhorse to avoid going 0-2, making me comfortable taking the over here.Derek Carr under 270.5 passing yardsAccuracy was Carr's problem on Monday for one half. Then the Ravens started to blitz more, only to find out that Carr's best skill is reading a blitz, throwing balls into spaces, and giving his pass-catchers opportunities to make plays. The Steelers play defense differently. They'll rely on pressure from their front four, including T.J. Watt, while dropping the rest into coverage. Carr will struggle, but the Steelers won't pull away enough to force Las Vegas to abandon the run during the second half.Corey Davis Under 53.5 receiving yardsBill Belichick makes opposing offenses play left-handed. The Patriots will take away Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson's best weapon in Davis, who burned the Pats three years ago in the playoffs for a pair of touchdowns. So "the Hoodie" is familiar with Davis' work.Jameis Winston over 236.5 passing yardsWinston wowed with his five touchdown passes last week, but he was a low-volume passer. This week, whether due to added confidence or a more competitive game, Winston will surpass his total simply because he'll need to attempt more throws.Kyle Pitts over 47.5 receiving yardsI'm going back to our guy Pitts here. Taking the over with him didn't go so great last week. I may be stubborn, but talent should win out eventually. We'll try to salvage a split across the first two weeks of taking the over on the Falcons rookie.Arizona Cardinals over 2.5 sacksThe Vikings' offensive line isn't exactly buttoned up yet, and Kirk Cousins faced plenty of pressure in Week 1. The Bengals did enough to make Cousins turtle three times.Chandler Jones notched five sacks last week, and he now faces a much easier matchup against the struggling Rashod Hill, with Christian Darrisaw still recovering from offseason surgery. Either Jones will get to Cousins, or Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph will scheme up successful blitzes, so give me the over.Mike Williams anytime TD +140We hit our lone touchdown prop last week with Thielen. In Week 2 we'll take a shot with the big-bodied Williams, who gets a plus-matchup because the Cowboys' Trevon Diggs will likely square off with Keenan Allen. The Chargers' red-zone offense was a big issue in Week 1, so Williams should get a few more looks as the Bolts' largest outside threat.Ryan Tannehill over 259.5 passing yardsI expect this game to look somewhat like the men's 4x100 relay in Tokyo this past summer. Tannehill and Russell Wilson will trade haymakers, and while we could just as easily back the Seahawks quarterback, I'll take Tannehill to surpass the lower total, as there's a higher probability his team will be trailing late.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. The Cowboys' defense was shredded by Tom Brady for 379 yards and four touchdowns in the opener - and that was with star pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence in the lineup.Lawrence is now sidelined with a broken foot, meaning Herbert should face little resistance en route to putting up big numbers in a contest with the highest projected point total of the week at 55.5.Boone's projection: 341 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, 19 rushing yardsOther QBs to start
