Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said Friday that Antonio Brown will not play in any preseason games, according to The Athletic's Vic Tafur. It will be Brown's first season under offensive coordinator Greg Olson after the receiver was acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers for 2019 third- and fifth-round picks. With Brown resting during the preseason, Gruden hopes to see other receivers prove themselves in place of his snaps, particularly undrafted rookie Keelan Doss who the club brought into minicamp on Friday, Tafur reports.Behind Brown, Derek Carr's offensive options are Tyrell Williams, J.J. Nelson, Ryan Grant, and running back Jalen Richard. The Raiders also selected running back Josh Jacobs in the first round of the draft and receiver Hunter Renfrow in the fifth.Oakland opens the preseason Aug. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Green Bay Packers rookie pass-rusher Rashan Gary made his team debut this week wearing a brace on his right shoulder. The No. 12 overall pick in last week's draft was reportedly flagged during medical evaluations for a labral tear suffered in college but insists the brace is nothing new."Yeah, when I got hurt at Michigan, I came back, and I wore the brace," Gary said, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "I'm comfortable with it, wearing it. Me and the trainers decided just to wear it. I feel comfortable playing with it, so I'm rocking it."Gary will reportedly consider surgery following his rookie campaign, but his injury doesn't appear to be worrying the Packers for 2019."I'll probably get more into that with those guys as we move forward," head coach Matt LaFleur said of Gary's shoulder. "I think it's just totally precautionary."The former Michigan edge rusher signed his rookie contract Friday and will sport former Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews' No. 52 jersey.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Although the Dallas Cowboys recently exercised the fifth-year option on Ezekiel Elliott's rookie contract, a long-term extension for the running back isn't imminent.Reports surfaced following the 2018 season that Elliott would prefer a contract extension this offseason rather than in 2020, but Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones claims the two parties are without a timetable. The star rusher is one of a handful of players for whom Dallas must weigh extensions in the near future. Quarterback Dak Prescott, receiver Amari Cooper, and cornerback Byron Jones are also in that group after the team recently extended defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence."I think those are all a work in progress," Jones said of extension negotiations, according to NFL.com's Grant Gordon. "Certainly we've got a couple years there with Zeke to get that done. We certainly want to get him done. He's the straw, if you will, that stirs our drink. He's a key part of what we're about."Those things take time to get done. They don't happen overnight. Certainly, he's a priority in terms of ultimately getting him signed. There hasn't really been a timetable put on this."Elliott, the fourth overall pick of the 2016 draft, has wasted no time producing at the pro level. The 23-year-old put up nearly 2,000 total yards in his rookie season and led the NFL with 1,434 rushing yards in 2018 after a suspension-shortened 2017 campaign.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has not attended this week's voluntary offseason workouts, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane.Jenkins' absence is uncharacteristic, per McLane, as the veteran has consistently attended all workouts at the Eagles' facility since signing with the club. It's currently unclear why the 31-year-old has opted to skip the workouts as both he and his agent declined to be interviewed on the subject. After spending five seasons with the New Orleans Saints, Jenkins signed with Philadelphia in 2014. He inked a four-year, $35-million contract extension in 2016, and ranks 10th among safeties in terms of average annual value, so his absence could be contract related.Jenkins is a versatile, vital chess piece to the Eagles' defense, lining up at multiple positions while starring in run defense and in coverage. He amassed 97 tackles, three forced fumbles, and one interception in 2018.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Chicago Bears' kicking competition got off to a horrid start Friday, as six of the eight invitees to rookie minicamp botched their lone field-goal attempt at the end of practice. All eight kickers were given one opportunity to make a 43-yard try. It's the same distance Cody Parkey missed from last season in the playoffs, which cost the Bears a chance to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of the fourth quarter."Two-for-eight, that's not good enough," head coach Matt Nagy said afterward, according to Larry Mayer of ChicagoBears.com. "Now I will say this, we always look at the end result of what happens, which is 100 percent of what matters, right? But as we're learning, two of those eight holds and snaps, it wasn't 100 percent. I'll leave it at that. So we've got to work through that. That's why after today we're not going to just go about and make rash decisions or anything. We're going to play it out."Nagy said he intentionally set up the kickers from the distance at which Parkey missed. Minnesota Vikings rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr. has chosen to wear No. 84, the uniform made famous by Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss."It's funny because I wore 82 in college and my dad wore 82 in the league, and he wore 84 in college so I felt like it'd be cool to switch it up a little bit," Smith told reporters Friday, according to ESPN's Courtney Cronin.Smith, who was drafted in the second round out of Alabama, will become the fourth Viking to don No. 84 since Moss last sported it in 2010. Bucky Hodges previously held the distinction as the fourth player to take the number but was released in 2017 before appearing in a game.Moss was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year and went in as a Viking. He played for Minnesota from 1998 to 2004 and for four games in 2010.The wideout ranks fourth in NFL history in career receiving yardage and second in receiving touchdowns. The Vikings have retired six jersey numbers, but evidently, Moss' No. 84 isn't one of them.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden clarified what his offensive line will look like in 2019 after a busy offseason.Trent Brown, who signed with the Raiders at the start of free agency, will play at right tackle while Kolton Miller will remain at left tackle, Gruden told reporters Friday, according to NFL.com's Herbie Teope."We like that as a launching pad for us," Gruden said. "Trent played very well at right tackle for San Francisco, he played left tackle very well for New England. That gives us some versatility. That's how we're going to start the show."The Raiders made Brown the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history this offseason, signing him to a four-year, $66-million deal that included $36.75 million guaranteed. He played at left tackle last season for the New England Patriots but did play predominately at right with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.Miller is entering his second NFL season after the Raiders drafted him 15th overall in 2018. He struggled as Oakland's starting left tackle last year, allowing a league-high 16 sacks and the second-most quarterback pressures (65) among all offensive lineman, according to Pro Football Focus.Gabe Jackson and Rodney Hudson are expected to remain at right guard and center, respectively. The left guard position will be an open competition, Gruden said.Oakland's offensive line will be busy in 2019; its AFC West rivals boast some of the league's best pass-rushers including Von Miller, Joey Bosa, and Frank Clark.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL betting market will start to heat up now that the dust has settled post-draft. Here, we dive into the most intriguing rookie player props available.Kyler Murray Bet: Over/Under 3,200 passing yards (Over -125, Under -105)The No. 1 overall pick was plucked to fit new Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury's style. Kingsbury doesn't have a track record in the pro coaching ranks, but you can expect his system to mesh well with the current landscape of the NFL. It should be a seamless fit for Murray, the reigning Heisman winner at Oklahoma. The Cardinals' offense ranked dead last in a bevy of categories last season. First-round quarterback Josh Rosen was barely a factor, struggling behind a poor offensive line and depleted receiving corps. Rosen, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins on Day 2 of the draft, posted 2,278 yards in 14 games as a rookie. The Cardinals must believe Murray's legs can bail out the offense more often than not - they didn't address the offensive line in the draft until the sixth round. What Arizona did capitalize on early was shoring up Murray's supporting cast: The front office snagged three wide receivers who will all bring something different to the offense alongside veteran Larry Fitzgerald. The system and some new weapons should help Murray post decent numbers as a rookie. What should also boost his stats is the fact the Cardinals will likely be playing from behind a lot; that'll result in an uptick in throwing. If the rookie gets through a full 16-game slate, he should shatter this number. Most receiving yards Bet: Marquise Brown +110; Deebo Samuel +200; N'Keal Harry +200Though Day 1 of the draft was slim on wide receivers - Brown and Harry were the only two taken - there is some game-breaking potential in a rookie class full of upside. The three listed wideouts to lead the class in receiving yards should all have their opportunities to make a splash. Our own fantasy football expert Justin Boone recently unveiled his post-draft wide receiver rankings, slotting Harry at No. 33 and Brown and Samuel back-to-back at No. 66 and 67, respectively.Brown, the first receiver taken off the board by the Baltimore Ravens, has a boom-or-bust feel to him. "Hollywood" was a burner at Oklahoma but flashed skills as an all-around receiver. He does carry some baggage after coming off surgery to repair a lisfranc injury a few months ago, though. Brown's production might also have a cap given Baltimore's run-heavy approach under dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson.Samuel did everything at South Carolina, posting 16 touchdowns through the air, seven on the ground, four via kick return, and another via fumble recovery. He beefed up a San Francisco 49ers receiving corps that will feature second-year man Dante Pettis, speedster Marquise Goodwin, and tight end George Kittle. Samuel figures to be a solid player in head coach Kyle Shanahan's system, but it might be too crowded to put up huge numbers right away.Harry, the former Arizona State standout who was taken with the final pick of the first round by the New England Patriots, should thrive in an offense that has developed players with lower ceilings than the rookie into productive weapons. Harry will need to separate better at the next level, but he's a wideout who should see plenty of targets in 2019 without Rob Gronkowski in the fold. He'd be the best value pick here.Dwayne Haskins Bet: Over/Under 7.5 starts (Over -120, Under -120)With a number like this, the oddsmakers' thought process is essentially the same as everyone else's: It's a matter of when - not if - the Washington Redskins hand Haskins the keys to the offense in 2019.The Redskins needed a contingency plan under center in the offseason. With quarterbacks Alex Smith and Colt McCoy both suffering leg injuries last year, the Redskins went out and traded for Case Keenum, sending the Denver Broncos a sixth-round pick in return. Despite leading the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship during the 2017 season, Keenum isn't thought to be the savior for a rebuilding club. The Redskins were in the market for a franchise quarterback and Haskins landed right in their lap with pick No. 15.He'll be the go-to guy sooner rather than later.Alex Kolodziej is theScore's betting writer. Daniel Jones understands the pressure that comes with playing for the New York Giants but isn't shying away from setting lofty goals.During rookie minicamp Friday, the first-year quarterback addressed the incoming criticism after being selected No. 6 overall in last week's draft, and he's ready to prove the doubters wrong."It's my job to make people believe in me, and I understand that," Jones said. "So ... there's a lot of work to do, and I'm excited to do it."Jones was one of the more polarizing prospects in the 2019 class. Several teams reportedly the former Duke passer as the No. 1 quarterback on their draft boards, while others apparently didn't place him in the top five.Eli Manning is widely expected to begin the 2019 season as the Giants' starting quarterback. Jones understands his own role and is ready to help his team any way he can while learning from his mentor."(Manning and I) both want the same things" he said. "We want the Giants to win football games and that's the goal of everyone here. I'm certainly going to let that be known that that's my goal and however that happens, whatever the plan is, I'm here to do that. I understand my role is to learn from him and I'll certainly be focused on improving myself every day."He added: "The goal is certainly to win Super Bowls, there's no doubt about it. Tom Brady may be one of the best players in the NFL, but he certainly isn't paid like one.The New England Patriots quarterback ranks 17th at his position in terms of average annual value ($20.5 million) but has always applied a team-first approach to contract negotiations.Being married to a world-famous model and actress doesn't hurt, either."I think the thing I've always felt for me in my life, winning has been a priority," Brady said when asked why he isn't the league's highest-paid player, according to NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman. "And my wife (Gisele Bundchen) makes a lot of money."I'm a little smarter than you think. Actually, it's a salary cap. You can only spend so much and the more that one guy gets is less for others. And for a competitive advantage standpoint, I like to get a lot of good players around me."Brady, 41, is entering the final season of a two-year restructured deal signed in 2018 that carries a $27-million cap hit.The six-time Super Bowl champion has previously stated he wants to play until he's 45 and insisted on Thursday that he isn't tired of playing quarterback."Not to this point," Brady said. "(To) give your team a chance to win every season, you have to put a lot into it. I try to bring my best every day. I try to be the best teammate, leader and also physically to stay prepared. No one wants someone that's taking up space.

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed free-agent linebacker Zach Brown to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday.Brown, who spent the last two seasons with the Washington Redskins, will earn $3 million under his new deal, his agents told Pro Football Talk. The 29-year-old defender was a second-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2012. Following his rookie contract, he spent one season with the Buffalo Bills before moving to Washington.Brown was a stout defender for the Redskins last season, excelling in run defense and in coverage. He accumulated 96 tackles, one sack, and two forced fumbles. The veteran's 372 total tackles over the last three seasons are second in the NFL to Bobby Wagner.Brown will presumably slide in next to Nigel Bradham as the Eagles' middle linebacker, leaving Kamu Grugier-Hill, Paul Worrilow, Nate Gerry, and free-agent addition L.J. Cam Newton isn't sweating having another big personality in the quarterback room.Although the Carolina Panthers' selection of former West Virginia star Will Grier in the third round of last week's draft may be viewed as an insurance policy, Newton expressed a team-first mentality following the pick."A lot of people - the natural (feeling) - you would think that I feel intimidated," Newton told Josh Sims of FOX 46. So, you may want to commit the names below to memory come fantasy draft day.Average draft position (ADP) data courtesy of Fantasy Football Calculator and is based on 12-team leagues with standard scoring.Mitch Trubisky, QB, BearsAndy Lyons / Getty Images Sport / GettyIt's almost impossible to follow up my Mahomes pick from 2018, which means you shouldn't expect Trubisky to finish as the top scoring fantasy quarterback. Securing a spot in the top seven is well within reach though, as long as the Bears' passer can stay healthy. In his first campaign under head coach Matt Nagy, Trubisky was the QB15 despite missing two games due to injury. For anyone who believes his year-long fantasy performance was inflated by a six-touchdown outing in Week 4, just take a look at Trubisky's numbers from Week 6 to 11, where he averaged 23.3 fantasy points per contest - third best in the NFL.The 24-year-old is far from a polished quarterback, but Nagy's arrival infused creativity into the offense and the Bears have surrounded the former second overall pick with a talented arsenal of skill position players. We're also discussing his fantasy outlook, not his Hall of Fame candidacy. For fantasy purposes, Trubisky checks a lot of boxes, including an underrated rushing ability, which resulted in 421 yards on the ground - fifth most among quarterbacks last season.Pair Trubisky with another high-upside late-round option like Jameis Winston, Josh Allen, or Kyler Murray and consider yourself set at quarterback. If both players hit, you may even end up with a valuable asset to trade early in the season.Star potential: ★★★★☆

Warning: Story contains sensitive content/coarse languageTyrann Mathieu, the Kansas City Chiefs' prized free-agent acquisition, spoke out Wednesday against new teammate Tyreek Hill in light of the abuse allegations facing him."I think it's bad, man," Mathieu told SB Nation Radio on Tuesday. "Obviously, it's very disappointing. I came to the Chiefs with hopes that I could watch him play football and watch him run back punts and catch long bombs and outrun everybody. It's a very unfortunate situation. I haven't been his teammate much - just basically two or three weeks - so it's not really fair for me to comment on his character. I don't think I really know him."But like I said, just with everything that's out right now and obviously the audio, it's very disappointing, not only from a teammate standpoint but I'm a father as well. It's very disappointing."Hill is under police investigation for child abuse. In an audiotape sent to authorities last week, his fiancee, Crystal Espinal, is heard asking him why their 3-year-old son said "Daddy" caused his serious arm injury. Hill later tells her, "You need to be terrified of me too, bitch."He was arrested for domestic violence in 2014 after Espinal, who was pregnant with their child at the time, accused him of physically beating and choking her.The Chiefs suspended Hill from team activities after the release of the audiotape. The NFL is expected to place him on the commissioner's exempt list, keeping him on paid leave while the investigation unfolds.Hill entered the NFL in 2015 and has been one of the league's most prolific wide receivers since then.Mathieu, a former Pro Bowl safety, signed a three-year, $42-million deal with Kansas City in March.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Warning: Story contains coarse languageTyreek Hill's attorney has issued a four-page letter to the NFL, obtained by ESPN, denying the child abuse allegations against the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver.Hill was told not to participate in team activities after an audio recording of a conversation between Hill and his fiancee, Crystal Espinal, became public last week. In the recording that Espinal made secretly, she says that, upon asking her 3-year-old son how he broke his arm, the child responded, "Daddy did it." She also says the child fears his father, to which Hill responds, "You need to be terrified of me, too, b---h."In Thursday's letter, attorney N. Trey Pettlon writes that Hill intends to cooperate with the NFL's investigation and that the recording has already been made available to the league via the NFLPA."As has been reported, when their son complained of pain in his arm, he was taken to the hospital and examined," Pettlon writes. "I cannot comment on what was reported at that time, but he was examined and released without any indication that the accident that broke his arm was caused by Tyreek or contributed to by Tyreek, or that Tyreek was even somehow involved."He adds that the investigation was closed without any evidence to suggest the incident was anything more than an accident. In the recording, Espinal also mentioned Hill extending their son's arms in order to punch the child in the chest when he starts crying."(Hill) categorically denies he has ever 'punched' his son in the chest or anywhere on his body, or otherwise touched him in the chest in a mean-spirited manner or as a form of discipline," reads the letter.Pettlon states that Hill has tapped his son on the chest with his finger to "redirect him" when the child is crying and has told him to "man up, buddy."According to the letter, Hill chose not to dispute Espinal's description of "punching" in the recording in order to avoid an argument in an airport. As for Hill's threatening words to his fiancee, Pettlon offered no defense."Instead of denying that his son was terrified of him a second time, something that bothered him a great deal, he became frustrated and said she should be terrified too. That comment is inexcusable, of course, and he wouldn't ask me to defend that here," the attorney writes.Hill is currently undergoing family counseling and individual counseling.Pettlon also notes that "all indications" show the criminal investigation into Hill's alleged battery has concluded and Hill maintains his innocence.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Arizona Cardinals used the first overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft to land Kyler Murray as their new franchise quarterback, but there's no guarantee he'll begin his rookie season under center."We'll see," head coach Kliff Kingsbury told "The Jim Rome Show" on Wednesday. "We're still working through all those things. We have Brett Hundley here - who we're very excited about - but we'll see where that kind of goes."Hundley, a 2015 fifth-round pick, last started a game in 2017 with the Green Bay Packers during Aaron Rodgers' injury-shortened season. The Cardinals signed him in March and stated in their official announcement that the 25-year-old was brought aboard as a backup. It's hard to envision any scenario - aside from an injury - that keeps Murray from beginning the year as the team's starting quarterback. Once thought to be on the brink of retirement, Ben Roethlisberger now appears in it for the long haul. The Pittsburgh Steelers recently finalized a two-year contract extension with Roethlisberger, but general manager Kevin Colbert suggested the quarterback could play beyond his new deal."I know he doesn't have an expiration date," Colbert told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "We just felt that that was a foreseeable future that we were able to do, and he was agreeable to. But I'm sure that he doesn't have an expiration date. I know that he's still very competitive. He still wants to do this at a high level."He doesn't need money, he doesn't need Hall of Fame credentials in my opinion," he continued. "He's already achieved both of those. What he wants is more Super Bowls. And he wants to continue to try to win, and we're gonna support that. And that was a big part of why we were willing to do what we did, and now it's our job to help him help us get there."Pittsburgh has anointed Roethlisberger the team's leader despite criticism from former teammates Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, and others. The 37-year-old led the league in passing yards with 5,129 in the 2018 season, eclipsing the 5,000-yard mark for the first time in his 15-year career. Bills pregame tailgate parties are renowned for their rowdiness and routinely feature fans putting one another through tables."The viral videos on social media, it's embarrassing when we see that," Andy Major, the Bills' vice president of operations and guest experience, told Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News. "It affects the community, affects the team negatively. We know our fans aren't like that. That's what's disappointing for us."Fans who arrive by bus or limo bus will no longer be allowed to tailgate by their vehicles. Instead, they'll use the Tailgate Village, access to which costs around $15 per person. The area will have tents, tables, and a house DJ. Different packages are available for groups of various sizes and include parking passes that must be purchased ahead of game day."Our No. 1 concern as an organization is fan safety. When you're seeing what was happening in the bus lot the last couple seasons, especially last year, it gets very concerning," Major said."It's dangerous behavior, not just negative fan behavior. It's dangerous to security, the sheriffs, and staff who are trying to police things."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Several NFL teams took advantage of the draft to address a glaring weakness on their roster. These seven franchises immediately improved a specific position group with the selection of one or multiple prospects.Falcons' O-lineAll offseason, the Atlanta Falcons have focused on the offensive line. Despite signing veterans James Carpenter and Jamon Brown in free agency, the Falcons surprised by using the No. 14 overall pick on guard Chris Lindstrom, then traded back into the end of the first round to add tackle Kaleb McGary.Neither were slam dunks to be first-round selections, but with no major holes on the depth chart, Atlanta chose to reinfuse the O-line with youth and athleticism.Should Lindstrom and McGary both make the starting lineup, they'll work alongside Carpenter, six-time All-Pro center Alex Mack, and 2018 Pro Bowler Jake Matthews to form an offensive line consisting entirely of first-round picks. These additions will help protect franchise quarterback Matt Ryan and, along with running back Devonta Freeman's return to health, should boost a unit that failed to average 100 yards per game last season.Broncos' QBsIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThe Denver Broncos had little recourse but to continue trotting out ineffective starter Case Keenum in 2018. The inexperienced Kevin Hogan was the primary backup after the team released Chad Kelly following an October arrest. At his first offseason opportunity, general manager John Elway traded a 2019 fourth-round pick for former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. The veteran was immediately installed as the starter, but he's not the long-term answer.Through the draft, Elway completed his overhaul of the quarterback room. He added what some considered two of the top five quarterbacks in the draft, waiting until the second round to select Drew Lock and then signing Brett Rypien as an undrafted free agent.Lock won't immediately compete for the starting job as Elway has already said the strong-armed youngster will battle for the backup position. Rypien, a four-year starter at Boise State and the nephew of former Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien, adds to the talent in a room that severely lacked it in 2018.Lions' TEsTight ends represented just 13 percent of the Lions' offense in 2018. And if that isn't enough, Detroit had to watch its former first-round pick Eric Ebron explode for 13 touchdowns in a Pro Bowl year with the Indianapolis Colts. The Lions began retooling the position by signing Jesse James in free agency, then used the eighth pick in the draft on T.J. Hockenson. He flourished in a two-tight end system at Iowa with Noah Fant and could do the same in Detroit, either by sharing the field with James or as the primary tight end.Detroit added Isaac Nauta in the seventh round for good measure. If he sticks, the trio is sure to dwarf the production from Levine Toilolo, Luke Willson, and Michael Roberts last year.Cardinals' WRsIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThe league's worst passing game was in need of an infusion of talent. The Arizona Cardinals' pass offense averaged 157 yards per game in 2018. Beyond Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk, and running back David Johnson, every other pass-catcher failed to make an impact.Enter 2019, where Kyler Murray takes over for Josh Rosen under center. Through the draft, the Cards added wideouts Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler, and KeeSean Johnson, giving their No. 1 pick a quintet capable of running the routes diagrammed in Kliff Kingsbury's Air Raid offense. The team invested heavily in the position, using premium draft capital to surround Murray with as many options as possible. The top pick acquired from the Rosen trade was used on Isabella and the first pick of the fourth round was used to stop Butler's slide.Arizona is far from a finished product, but its passing game promises to be fun to watch.Giants' CBsThe New York Giants' rebuild has begun in earnest and the secondary was a primary focus during the draft. The Giants were the first to take a corner, spending a late first-round pick on Georgia's Deandre Baker. Then they added Julian Love out of Notre Dame and Washburn prospect Corey Ballentine.Baker will either work opposite Janoris Jenkins or take over his role if the veteran is deemed expendable. Love and 2018 supplemental pick Sam Beal should also have prominent spots in the defensive backfield.Ballentine, who was injured in a shooting hours after the draft but is expected to make a full recovery, brings 4.4 speed to the group.Ravens' WRsFrederick Breedon / Getty Images Sport / GettyThere's still work to be done, but the additions of Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and Miles Boykin are a great place to start.Entering the draft, the Baltimore Ravens' receiving depth chart was led by Willie Snead, he of 651 yards and one touchdown in 2018. Veteran Michael Crabtree was released and John Brown was allowed to leave via free agency. In Lamar Jackson's seven starts to end the regular season - six of which were wins, to be fair - the rookie averaged just 159 passing yards per game. He requires more options than Snead if he's to improve as a passer in his sophomore year.Marquise Brown, the Ravens' first-round pick, figures to occupy the deep-threat role vacated by John Brown. He could emerge as the team's No. 1 receiver - if his size (5-foot-9) isn't an impediment - or lock down the slot-receiver position as Jackson's safety valve. Boykin, meanwhile, ran a 4.42 in the 40. Jackson threatens defenses with his speed in the run game, and Brown and Boykin add that dynamic outside the numbers.49ers' EDGEPerhaps the most improved position group this offseason is the San Francisco 49ers' edge-rusher unit. After trading a 2020 second-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for Dee Ford, the Niners found him a bookend by taking Nick Bosa with the second overall pick of the draft.San Fran finished eighth-last in sacks last year with 37, and Cassius Marsh led the team with 39 quarterback pressures. Ford alone accounted for 78 pressures in 2018. Add in the No. 1 defensive prospect in football and DeForest Buckner rushing the quarterback from the inside and the Niners should have one of the league's most feared defensive lines.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones has not been in attendance for the team's voluntary offseason workout program, which started April 15, sources told Yahoo Sports' Terez Paylor.Jones is heading into the last season of his rookie contract and is coming off a breakout 15.5-sack season. He's scheduled to make $1.2 million in base salary. The Chiefs are switching to a 4-3 defense under new coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and have said that Jones will remain a key piece of the unit.Fletcher Cox of the Philadelphia Eagles is currently the highest-paid 4-3 defensive tackle, earning $17.1 million annually. While Cox is among the league's most impactful defenders, his sack numbers have never reached the heights of Jones in 2018. Cox had a career-high 10.5 quarterback takedowns last season. The trade of Dee Ford, who was franchise tagged by Kansas City prior to the deal with the San Francisco 49ers, opens up the possibility that the Chiefs could use it on Jones in 2020.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New Orleans Saints are nearing a deal with state officials to keep the team in Louisiana long term and set aside $450 million for Superdome renovations, according to Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com.If completed, the agreement would extend the Saints' lease with Louisiana through 2035. Their existing lease is slated to expire in 2025.The Saints ($150 million), state ($93 million), and Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District ($207 million) will each contribute to the project. The $450 million in renovations costs about $1 billion less than building a new stadium would."The building has to be modernized so we can improve the fan experience," Saints president Dennis Lauscha said Wednesday. "This is basically a wash for us financially."The Saints have played in the Superdome every year since 1975, except for the 2005 season as New Orleans recovered from Hurricane Katrina. The venue has become synonymous with the team and an iconic landmark in the city.If approved, the four-phase renovation project will begin in January 2020 and conclude in 2024. Most of the major work is expected to take place between football seasons. The Superdome will host Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 4, 2024, by which point officials hope the renovations are finished.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Marshawn Lynch would return to the Oakland Raiders if the team wanted to bring him back, a source told Steve Wyche of NFL.com.It was reported last week that Lynch, whose contract expired, "plans to move on to the next phase of his life." Oakland then used one of its three first-round picks on Alabama running back Josh Jacobs.Lynch retired after the 2015 season but returned to play for his hometown team in 2017 and rushed for 1,267 yards and 10 touchdowns in what was thought to be the team's final two years in Oakland - his 2018 campaign was cut short by a groin injury after six games. However, with the Raiders' stadium in Las Vegas not scheduled to open until 2020, and other options falling through, the team agreed to remain in Oakland for at least one more year, which reportedly made Lynch's 2019 return more likely. The Raiders reportedly re-signed Doug Martin after losing free-agent addition Isaiah Crowell to a season-ending Achilles injury.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New York Giants' selection of Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall in last week's draft has been criticized across the league, but the rookie quarterback's focus is elsewhere."I haven't paid too much mind to (the draft reactions)," Jones told SiriusXM NFL Radio's "Late Hits," according to Dan Salomone of the Giants' website. "I think that's key to playing quarterback, to being consistent as a quarterback, is keeping your head in the same place. I think that just comes down to your confidence in yourself, and your confidence has got to come from inside of you. I think if you're looking externally for confidence, then you're also going to be affected by the negative as well."Jones was one of the more polarizing prospects in the 2019 class. Some teams had the former Duke passer as the No. 1 quarterback on their draft boards, while others reportedly didn't place him in the top five, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.New York general manager Dave Gettleman said he was certain that two teams would have taken Jones if the team had waited until pick No. 17 to select him.The first-year Giant is excited for the opportunity to learn from presumed 2019 starter Eli Manning."I think it's a tremendous opportunity for a young guy to go into a place where there's a future Hall of Famer who's done it for a really long time at a really high level and definitely knows what it takes," Jones said. "So that to me is a big advantage ... I'm looking forward to it, just being teammates with him, being able to learn from him in the building every day. I think that's a special opportunity."I've spoken to (Manning) once (since the draft) and he just congratulated me, said he's excited to be up there. I think I understand he's got a job to do, I've got a job to do, so we're going to do the best we can to help the Giants win as many football games as we can, and I'm certainly happy with whatever my role is."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen brushed off post-draft comments by New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, who said he was certain that two teams would have taken quarterback Daniel Jones if the Giants had waited until pick No. 17 to select him.The Giants ultimately opted to draft Jones with the No. 6 pick. The Redskins - who drafted fellow quarterback Dwayne Haskins at No. 15 - were thought to be one of the teams Gettleman was referring to, but Allen insisted that wasn't the case."We picked the player we wanted to pick," he said on "NFL Total Access," according to NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "I'm almost positive Dave (Gettleman) has no clue what our draft board would be. I don't know which draft boards he knows, but he doesn't know ours."Allen added that he expects Haskins to learn from the Redskins' long list of experienced passers."It's a great situation for any quarterback we're going to bring in and Dwayne is excited about it," Allen said."Our reigning NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes, he learned at the hip of Alex Smith. And Alex is going to be part of our program - we still don't know from the doctors if he's going to play, and what time in the season, but he's going to be a part of our program. And (Haskins) will be able to learn from Case Keenum, and Colt McCoy, and then our coaching staff is filled with former quarterbacks, and of course, we have the great Doug Williams in the building, so it's going to be a great learning experience for (Haskins) and we want to make sure he has a great career."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors.1. New Orleans SaintsJonathan Bachman / Getty Images Sport / GettyPost-FA Rank: 1The Saints, who were without a first-round pick, didn't make much of a splash in the draft. But they didn't need to. New Orleans enters 2019 as arguably the team to beat in the NFC.2. New England PatriotsPost-FA Rank: 3While the reigning Super Bowl champs lost Rob Gronkowski, receiver N'Keal Harry and pass-rusher Chase Winovich are typical Bill Belichick steals who'll likely immediately play big roles in the Patriots' title defense.3. Los Angeles RamsPost-FA Rank: 4It doesn't matter that Sean McVay's starting lineup remains relatively unchanged following the draft, as the Rams were already an elite squad. But Todd Gurley's health and Jared Goff's performance in the Super Bowl remain major red flags.4. Los Angeles ChargersPost-FA Rank: 6The Chargers were a winner during draft week, once again landing a blue-chip defender in the first (Jerry Tillery) despite not owning a high pick. Make no mistake, Los Angeles is a legitimate Super Bowl contender.5. Kansas City ChiefsAbbie Parr / Getty Images Sport / GettyPost-FA Rank: 2Frank Clark will provide a major boost to Kansas City's pass rush, and the Chiefs did well in the draft despite giving up a first-rounder for him. But it's hard to project the Chiefs' season without clarity on the reopened criminal investigation into Tyreek Hill.6. Philadelphia EaglesPost-FA Rank: 8Even with a less-than-impressive draft haul that primarily added depth to position groups, the Eagles remain an NFC powerhouse if - and this is a big if - Carson Wentz is fully healthy for the entire campaign.7. Chicago BearsPost-FA Rank: 5Before the draft, Chicago had all the ingredients to be a championship contender (except a reliable kicker), so its lack of activity in Nashville shouldn't be of any concern for Bears faithful.8. Indianapolis ColtsPost-FA Rank: 7Colts GM Chris Ballard found an abundance of defensive depth through the draft to support a rock-solid core (and added the Redskins' 2020 second-rounder for good measure). This roster is really taking shape.9. Cleveland BrownsPost-FA Rank: 9If the Browns were a cornerback away from elite status before the draft, they should count their lucky stars that former LSU standout Greedy Williams fell to them in the second round.10. Seattle SeahawksJoe Robbins / Getty Images Sport / GettyPost-FA Rank: 10A mediocre draft haul plus the losses of Frank Clark and potentially Doug Baldwin may be too much for Seattle to overcome in 2019. The Seahawks proved everyone wrong last season, though.11. Green Bay PackersPost-FA Rank: 11The Packers spent nearly all of their offseason resources on defense, taking a ton of pressure off Aaron Rodgers as they look to return to the postseason. However, a few new weapons for the two-time MVP would've been nice.12. Minnesota VikingsPost-FA Rank: 12The addition of five offensive linemen - including three draftees - will give Kirk Cousins a much better chance this year to live up to his enormous contract.13. Dallas CowboysPost-FA Rank: 14The Cowboys may have been without a top pick in the draft but the Jones family isn't losing a wink of sleep over trading it for Amari Cooper, whose impact couldn't have been matched by any first-round receiver.14. Houston TexansPost-FA Rank: 13The promising Texans were disappointingly passive in free agency and then fell well short of nailing the draft. Throw in the trade rumors surrounding Jadeveon Clowney and it all makes for a poor offseason in Houston.15. Baltimore RavensFrederick Breedon / Getty Images Sport / GettyPost-FA Rank: 15Baltimore is slowly assembling a track team on offense but still needs to overcome Lamar Jackson's inconsistencies as a passer and significant turnover on defense to make a legitimate Super Bowl run.16. Atlanta FalconsPost-FA Rank: 17Eschewing flash for substance, the Falcons focused their attention this offseason on the offensive and defensive lines. The hope is their 7-9 finish in 2018 was an anomaly created by a host of injuries.17. Pittsburgh SteelersPost-FA Rank: 19There will be a lot less drama in Pittsburgh this year, but also a lot less talent. Will the addition of Devin Bush on defense offset the loss of Antonio Brown? It's possible, but we wouldn't bet on it.18. Carolina PanthersPost-FA Rank: 16Cam Newton has a new stable of weapons, but the addition of Will Grier could also leave him with a sense of urgency. The former MVP is entering the penultimate year of his deal and needs to prove he's recovered from shoulder surgery.19. Tennessee TitansPost-FA Rank: 18The Titans went to great lengths to add receivers (Adam Humphries, A.J. Brown) for Marcus Mariota. Are they - and the promotion of tight ends coach Arthur Smith to offensive coordinator - enough to snap the passing game out of its longtime funk?20. San Francisco 49ersIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPost-FA Rank: 21The 49ers are ready to take the next step thanks to a lethal front four that now features the terrifying trio of Dee Ford, DeForest Buckner, and No. 2 overall pick Nick Bosa.21. Jacksonville JaguarsPost-FA Rank: 23Jaguars fans have to be happy with the offseason haul. Nick Foles, Josh Allen, Jawaan Taylor, and Josh Oliver should all make an immediate impact. But will it be enough to return them to contender status?22. Detroit LionsPost-FA Rank: 20Slowly but surely, Matt Patricia is recreating the Patriots in Detroit. If he can turn Matthew Stafford into Tom Brady and rookie tight end T.J. Hockenson into Gronkowski, the second-year coach might really have something ...23. Washington RedskinsPost-FA Rank: 27Washington was lauded for its draft haul after grabbing Dwayne Haskins at 15th overall. But with only a year of experience as a starter, the Redskins might not feel comfortable enough to truly let him compete with Colt McCoy and Case Keenum.24. New York JetsPost-FA Rank: 24The Jets look like a whole new squad entering the 2019 season, and the cherry on top of their offseason was nabbing arguably the draft's best player in Quinnen Williams.25. Buffalo BillsAndy Lyons / Getty Images Sport / GettyPost-FA Rank: 25Game-wrecking defensive tackle Ed Oliver complements an already great unit and was a steal at ninth overall, but the Bills' 2019 success still depends almost entirely on how much Josh Allen develops as a passer.26. Oakland RaidersPost-FA Rank: 22Oakland could have - and probably should have - hit a home run with its three first-round picks, and seemingly didn't. Jon Gruden's squad will be one of the most intriguing teams to watch in 2019.27. Arizona CardinalsPost-FA Rank: 29The Kyler Murray era begins in Arizona. After an impressive draft, we're hoping the rookie will have more to work with than Josh Rosen did (which was essentially nothing).28. Denver BroncosPost-FA Rank: 26Despite John Elway's excellent draft haul, we're skeptical to bet on a team that will feature Joe Flacco and/or Drew Lock at quarterback in 2019.29. Tampa Bay BuccaneersPost-FA Rank: 28The Buccaneers had plenty of work to do to reshape their roster - particularly on defense - but had limited resources. We can't help but feel Tampa Bay hasn't done enough this offseason to give Bruce Arians a shot at first-year success.30. New York GiantsIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPost-FA Rank: 31The Giants were the laughing stock of the draft after taking quarterback Daniel Jones sixth overall when it was believed he'd drop to their second pick at No. 17. GM Dave Gettleman says time will tell whether he made a mistake; well, the clock's already ticking.31. Cincinnati BengalsPost-FA Rank: 30It could be a painfully long season in Cincinnati, where Andy Dalton is back for the umpteenth year and most of the best players on his team are on the wrong side of 30.32. Miami DolphinsPost-FA Rank: 32It's easy to get behind Miami's moves to acquire Josh Rosen and draft a culture-setter in Christian Wilkins, but let's not forget this team is undergoing a top-to-bottom rebuild.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. It appears the Baltimore Ravens have big plans for rookie quarterback Trace McSorley.General manager Eric DeCosta believes the sixth-round pick's greatest strength is his versatility and said McSorley could see time in all three phases of the game."I think he's a football player and everything that entails," DeCosta said, according to Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith."His skill set is varied and multiple. He's fast, he's strong, he's tough, he's a playmaker, he's a football player. We've seen teams - for instance the New Orleans Saints with Taysom Hill - we've seen other teams find ways to play with players like this and they can help you win football games. He fits our defense, he fits our offense, he fits special teams."McSorley, who holds most of the quarterback records at Penn State, was asked to participate in defensive back drills during the combine in February and could be used at safety in certain packages. The Saints don't use Hill on defense, but he's an excellent special-teams player and a unique offensive weapon who lines up at multiple positions.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Oakland Raiders running back Isaiah Crowell will miss the entire 2019 season after tearing his Achilles during a team workout Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. It's a tough blow for the five-year veteran who signed a one-year, $1-million contract with the Raiders in March. Crowell had initially been tabbed to lead a backfield that's expected to lose Marshawn Lynch to retirement. However, once Oakland drafted runner Josh Jacobs with a first-round pick on Thursday, Crowell was likely set to be a veteran backup and a mentor for the youngster. The Raiders are now left with Jacobs, Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington, and Chris Warren at running back.Crowell spent his first four NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns before signing with the New York Jets last season. He rushed for 685 yards and six touchdowns in 2018, and was released by the Jets in the spring.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey once again quieted trade speculation Tuesday involving versatile running back Duke Johnson."I keep telling you guys and you all don't listen to me: Duke Johnson is a viable member of this organization," Dorsey said in an appearance on 92.3 The Fan. "He's very talented. This organization has plans to use him."Johnson requested a trade earlier in the offseason. He cited concerns about his playing time with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt set for featured roles in 2019, though the latter will serve an eight-game suspension to begin the campaign.Johnson has been one of the league's most reliable pass-catching running backs over the last four seasons. In 2018, the 25-year-old posted 201 yards rushing and 429 yards receiving, catching three passes for touchdowns.Dorsey first stated his reluctance to trade Johnson on April 18, saying the Browns would find a significant role for him in their offense.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jamaal Charles is expected to sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, signaling the end of an incredible career prematurely sapped by injuries. After 11 years in the NFL, here are five notable nuggets about the four-time Pro Bowler:5.4 yards per carry averageCharles' yards per attempt (5.4) is the highest among all running backs in the modern era. It ranks ahead of legends Jim Brown (5.2), Barry Sanders (5.0), and Terrell Davis (4.6). Only quarterbacks Michael Vick, Randall Cunningham, and fullback/linebacker Marion Motley - who played from 1946-55 - have a higher yards per carry all time than Charles.19-touchdown 2013 seasonDuring the 2010 campaign, Charles showcased his ability as a receiver after hauling in 45 passes for 468 yards, but didn't reach his peak until 2013. He totaled 1980 yards from scrimmage that year (1287 rushing and 693 receiving) while adding 12 touchdowns on the ground and another seven through the air. Only Todd Gurley and David Johnson have amassed more than 19 total rushing and receiving touchdowns in a season since Charles' feat.5-touchdown game vs. RaidersIn Charles' 19-touchdown season in 2013, the running back exploded in Week 15 against the Oakland Raiders for one rushing touchdown and four receiving. He only had 20 yards rushing, but his eight catches for 195 receiving yards - including a 71-yard catch from Alex Smith - propelled him to his big night and made Charles the first Chiefs player to score five TDs in a game since 1961. He also became the first player in NFL history to have four touchdown receptions and one rushing touchdown in a single game.Chiefs' all-time leading rusherAlthough Charles' nine seasons with the Chiefs were marred with injury, that didn't stop him from climbing to the top of the franchise's all-time rushing list. His 7,260 yards on the ground is significantly higher than notable alums Priest Holmes (6,070) and Larry Johnson (6,015), all while having a similar number of carries. The number of impressive running backs who have played for Kansas City makes Charles' accomplishment all the more noteworthy.Injury historyThe 32-year-old battled through several major injuries throughout his career. A torn ACL ended his season in Week 2 of 2011, but that didn't stop Charles from bouncing back in 2012 to earn his second Pro Bowl selection. In 2015, Charles suffered another ACL tear that he struggled to recover from. The following season, the running back had a setback with his knee at the midpoint of the campaign and required a second surgery. He was ultimately placed on injured reserve, ending his 2016 year, and was released from the club that offseason.Charles went on to amass 69 carries for the Denver Broncos in 2017 before signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he only appeared in two games.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan strongly rejected a Tuesday report that suggested friction between him and general manager John Lynch."Complete bullshit," Shanahan wrote in a text message to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.Earlier Tuesday, Bleacher Report's Matt Miller wrote, "Word out of San Francisco points to friction and a potential breakup of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch."Lynch was officially hired first by the 49ers, though Shanahan was a lock to join the franchise once the Atlanta Falcons were eliminated from the 2016 playoffs and was therefore allowed to handpick the former safety as his GM.Both Lynch and Shanahan received six-year contracts. While the head coach reportedly didn't demand final say on personnel decisions, he apparently was given more power due to Lynch's lack of front-office experience. At last month's owners' meeting, 49ers CEO Jed York said Shanahan and Lynch have developed an even stronger relationship despite winning only 10 games since joining the NFC West franchise."I see that in spades," York said. "It's just awesome to watch those guys work together."I think it's been interesting to watch these guys really come together and show they're a stronger bond today than what they were two years ago, and it's only getting stronger."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Denver Broncos and cornerback Chris Harris Jr. have not yet discussed a new contract, according to NFL Network's James Palmer. Before last week's draft began, Harris reportedly requested the Broncos either give him a long-term extension or trade him, but neither has happened to date.Teams across the league are reportedly interested in trading for the 29-year-old Harris but it's unclear what Denver wants to do, Palmer added.Harris is currently set to enter the final year of his contract with a base salary of $7.8 million for 2019. He reportedly wants a new deal that will pay him at least $15 million annually.Broncos general manager John Elway previously stated he would talk to Harris following the draft.Harris has been one of the league's best cornerbacks in recent years and made his fourth career Pro Bowl last season. This offseason, the Broncos signed cornerbacks Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan to deals averaging $11 million and $7 million annually, respectively.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. He tore his ACL in 2011 and 2015.The ball carrier was released by the Chiefs following the 2016 season. The NFL filed a trademark application for the word mark Duluth Eskimos on April 25, trademark attorney Josh Gerben reported.Duluth is a city in Minnesota that's located on the shores of Lake Superior. The Eskimos played in the NFL from 1926 to 1927.Gerben believes the NFL - which is entering its 100th season - could be preparing to feature the Duluth Eskimos as a throwback look for the Minnesota Vikings in a game this year.

Despite the Denver Broncos selecting quarterback Drew Lock in the 2019 NFL Draft, Joe Flacco's job appears to be safe.Broncos general manager John Elway believes Lock has areas of his game to improve upon and plans to bring the second-round pick along slowly."Drew will come in and compete for the backup job," Elway said, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold."Drew obviously has a lot of talent, he's got a lot of arm talent, but he's got to work on a lot of different things too," he continued. "I think when you look at what he did in college offensively, he's in the spread offense and wasn't under the center very often. With what we're going to do offensively, he's going to have a lot of work to do. I think technique is always a big thing. We talk about accuracy and accuracy a lot of times comes down to technique and throwing on rhythm. We believe he has a ton of talent, but we also believe he has a lot left to work on."Denver traded for Flacco in March with the intention of the longtime Raven starting in 2019. After the deal was made official, Elway said he believed the veteran passer is entering his prime. The former Super Bowl MVP was benched for rookie first-rounder Lamar Jackson last season after the Ravens went 4-5 through nine games. He has three years remaining on his current contract. Many expected Lock to be a first-round selection last Thursday, but he fell to the Broncos at No. 42 overall.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Washington Redskins legend Joe Theismann, who wore No. 7 throughout his 12 seasons with the team, says he isn't opposed to first-round draft pick Dwayne Haskins wearing the same number.Haskins sported the No. 7 throughout his time at Ohio State."I'm anxious to sit down and talk to Dwayne about that," Theismann said on "Redskins Talk," according to NBC Sports' Michelle Martinelli."I'm not opposed to it. I'm not saying yes yet, but I really want to sit down and talk to the young man and get a chance to meet him. I know he's reached out and said he wants to ask me, so as early as I can get back into town and be able to set up an opportunity when he gets into town to be able to sit down and talk to him about it."Theismann welcomed Haskins to the Redskins with a tweet minutes after the 21-year-old was drafted with the 15th overall pick, but he wants to know more about the young quarterback before he wears a number that has been unofficially retired.

Clay Matthews is one of the most accomplished and beloved defenders in Green Bay Packers history, but the team is apparently ready to focus on the future rather than the past. With Matthews' No. 52 vacant after the linebacker left in free agency, the Packers allowed their first-round pick, pass-rusher Rashan Gary, to sport the number.Matthews reacted to the news with some humor on Monday:

Last April, it would have been far-fetched to predict that Kyler Murray would become the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. But that won't stop us from taking a long look ahead at 2020 and predicting who might hear their name called first when the event is held in Las Vegas. Here is theScore's very early 2020 mock draft. The order of the picks was determined by the most recent Super Bowl odds set by Westgate Las Vegas.1. Miami Dolphins - Derrick Brown, DT, AuburnIcon Sportswire / Getty ImagesWill Josh Rosen prove he's the long-term answer at quarterback in Miami? If not, the Dolphins could take one of the promising QBs in the 2020 class. But if so, Brown, a 6-foot-5, 318-pound tackle, might be the best player available. He had 48 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks as a junior.2. Arizona Cardinals - Andrew Thomas, OT, GeorgiaThe Cardinals did an excellent job of surrounding Murray with weapons in the 2019 draft, including receivers Andy Isabella and Hakeem Butler. Next year, they could opt to fortify the offensive line by taking Thomas, a 6-foot-5, 320-pound prospect who has started all 28 games played since he arrived at Georgia.3. Cincinnati Bengals - Tua Tagovailoa, QB, AlabamaIf the Bengals are indeed picking third, they're likely going to need a new quarterback. Yes, they took Ryan Finley in the fourth round on Saturday, but it would be hard to pass up Tagovailoa. The Crimson Tide pivot threw 43 touchdowns this past season and finished second to Murray in the Heisman Trophy race.4. Buffalo Bills - Chase Young, DE, Ohio StateThe Bills improved their defensive front by taking Ed Oliver ninth overall this year, and they could go get a pass-rusher in 2020. That player might be Young, who led the Buckeyes in both tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (9.5) during 2018.5. Detroit Lions - A.J. Epenesa, DE, IowaA year after taking tight end T.J. Hockenson, the Lions could go back to Iowa for Epenesa, one of the better pass-rushers in college football. He posted 10.5 sacks in 2018.6. Washington Redskins - Jerry Jeudy, WR, AlabamaHarry How / Getty ImagesThe Redskins tried to find Dwayne Haskins some mid-round help in Terry McLaurin this year, but Washington's receiving corps will still be looking for a No. 1 option. Enter Jeudy, the Biletnikoff Award winner who caught 68 passes for 1,315 yards in 2018.7. Tennessee Titans - Dylan Moses, LB, AlabamaThis pick could be a quarterback if the Titans decide to move on from Marcus Mariota. If not, it isn't a reach to go with Moses, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker who recorded 86 tackles (10 for loss) last season.8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Justin Herbert, QB, OregonIf the Buccaneers are drafting in the top 10, they might look to replace Jameis Winston, who's entering a contract year. Bruce Arians could begin Year 2 with the franchise by choosing a young QB like Herbert.9. New York Giants - Walker Little, OT, StanfordNo matter who plays quarterback for the Giants, better offensive line play is a must. Little started for Stanford as a true freshman and made the All-Pac-12 first team as a sophomore.10. Las Vegas Raiders - Jake Fromm, QB, GeorgiaIf the Raiders are still picking in the top 10 after making three first-round selections this year, it will be time to add a quarterback prospect. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Fromm completed 67 percent of his passes in 2018.11. New York Jets - Mekhi Becton, OT, LouisvilleJoe Robbins / Getty ImagesThe Jets went defense with four of their six picks in 2019, so they'll need to focus on getting Sam Darnold some help in 2020. Becton is huge at 6-foot-7, 355 pounds and has 23 games of starting experience under his belt.12. Denver Broncos - CeeDee Lamb, WR, OklahomaEmmanuel Sanders will be 33 years old and the Broncos don't have many proven playmakers beyond him. A year after Marquise Brown went in the first round, Oklahoma has another intriguing prospect in the 6-foot-2, 189-pound Lamb. He went for 1,158 yards last season and made plays like this.13. Carolina Panthers - C.J. Henderson, CB, FloridaDespite a need at the position, the Panthers didn't take any defensive backs this year. The 6-foot-1 Henderson posted two interceptions and three sacks in 2018.14. Jacksonville Jaguars - Grant Delpit, S, LSUWith this pick, the Jaguars likely get the best value in this mock draft and would also fill a need with Delpit, the best safety in the class. He posted 74 tackles, five interceptions, and five sacks in 2018.15. Baltimore Ravens - Shaquille Quarterman, LB, Miami (Fla.)Baltimore lost C.J. Mosley in free agency this offseason and didn't take a linebacker with any of its eight draft picks. Quarterman finished second in the ACC among linebackers with 14 tackles for loss last year and second on the Hurricanes with 82 tackles.16. Houston Texans - Travis Etienne, RB, ClemsonIcon Sportswire / Getty ImagesThe Texans did well to address needs in the 2019 draft, taking a tackle (Tytus Howard) and a cornerback (Lonnie Johnson) with their first two picks. Going forward, Lamar Miller is entering the last year of his contract and hasn't rushed for 1,000 yards since 2016. Etienne, with his 8.1 yards per carry and 24 touchdowns in 2018, is the type of back who could go in the first round.17. Atlanta Falcons - Raekwon Davis, DT, AlabamaThe Falcons drafted two offensive linemen in the first round this year and could look to upgrade the interior of their defensive line in 2020. Davis' production dipped from 2017 to '18, but the 6-foot-7, 309-pounder should still be a first-rounder if he produces a strong senior year.18. Seattle Seahawks - Isaiah Simmons, S/LB, ClemsonSeattle grabbed safety Marquise Blair in the second round this year, but the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Simmons is a playmaker. He led the national champion Tigers with 89 tackles.19. San Francisco 49ers - Bryce Hall, CB, VirginiaThe 49ers snagged an NFL-low two interceptions last season and neither of them were produced by cornerbacks. Enter Hall, a highly productive, 6-foot-1 corner who intercepted two passes during 2018 while leading the nation with 24 passes defended.20. Dallas Cowboys - Xavier McKinney, S, AlabamaThe Cowboys haven't invested more than a third-round pick in a safety since taking Roy Williams in 2002. McKinney, who recorded 74 tackles as a sophomore and was named defensive MVP in Alabama's Orange Bowl win over Oklahoma, is trending up.21. Minnesota Vikings - Rashard Lawrence, DT, LSUIcon Sportswire / Getty ImagesThe Vikings signed Shamar Stephen this offseason and then drafted Armon Watts in the sixth round, but might still need a long-term plan at defensive tackle. Lawrence already has 23 games of starting experience ahead of his senior season.22. Pittsburgh Steelers - Curtis Weaver, DE/OLB, Boise StateBud Dupree will be a free agent after the 2019 season and the Steelers could get younger by taking Weaver, one of the most productive pass-rushers in college football. The 6-foot-3, 264-pound prospect has recorded 20.5 sacks over the last two years.23. Cleveland Browns - Prince Tega Wanogho, OT, AuburnOnly three offensive linemen on the Browns' roster were drafted by the team, so another investment in the position is needed. Wanogho is a fascinating prospect who hails from Nigeria and came to Auburn as a 250-pound defensive end. He's now 6-foot-7, 305 pounds and was an All-SEC first-team pick by Pro Football Focus for 2018.24. Philadelphia Eagles - Paddy Fisher, LB, NorthwesternCornerback and middle linebacker already look like positions of need moving forward for the Eagles. Fisher has racked up 230 tackles in two seasons, finishing second in the Big Ten with 117 during 2018.25. Los Angeles Chargers - Tyler Biadasz, C, WisconsinPicking here would mean the Chargers are a playoff team in 2019, so perhaps it won't yet be time to invest a first-round pick in a quarterback. Instead, Biadasz would provide great value as an interior lineman. He's started 27 games at center for Wisconsin and Mike Pouncey will be a free agent next offseason.26. Green Bay Packers - Tee Higgins, WR, ClemsonLachlan Cunningham / Getty ImagesThe Packers did nothing to address their receiving corps in the 2019 draft and the group still looks thin beyond Davante Adams. Higgins is a big target at 6-foot-4 and is primed for a breakout year catching passes from Trevor Lawrence.27. Las Vegas Raiders (from Chicago) - Kenny Willekes, DE, Michigan StateThe Raiders acquired this pick as part of the Khalil Mack trade. Even after drafting Clelin Ferrell with the fourth overall pick this year, the team could use more reinforcements up front. Among the power-conference defensive players returning to school, Willekes ranked second in tackles for loss with 20.5 in 2018 (Arizona's Colin Schooler was first).28. Indianapolis Colts - Collin Johnson, WR, TexasThe Colts did a nice job of adding receivers this offseason, signing Devin Funchess and drafting Parris Campbell in the second round. But Funchess is only in Indianapolis on a one-year deal, and the 6-foot-6 Johnson will offer an alternative. He's returning for his senior year after catching 68 passes for 985 yards in 2018.29. New Orleans Saints - Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi StateThis is another interesting place to speculate about a quarterback (Shea Patterson? Jacob Eason? Jalen Hurts?) because of Drew Brees' age. But New Orleans could also use a young cornerback to pair with Marshon Lattimore. Dantzler, a Louisiana native, posted 43 tackles and two interceptions in 2018.30. Kansas City Chiefs - Tylan Wallace, WR, Oklahoma StateThe Chiefs just used their second-round draft pick on speedy receiver Mecole Hardman after telling Tyreek Hill to stay away from team activities, but they could still improve the group of playmakers surrounding Patrick Mahomes. As a sophomore, Wallace caught 86 passes for 1,491 yards and was a Biletnikoff Award finalist. He plays bigger than his 6-foot, 185-pound frame.Icon Sportswire / Getty Images31. Los Angeles Rams - Tommy Kraemer, OG, Notre DameThe Rams took two tackles in the middle rounds of the 2019 draft but could also use a prospect inside. Kraemer has started 21 games over the last two seasons for a successful Fighting Irish program.32. New England Patriots - Richie Grant, S, UCFDevin McCourty and Patrick Chung will both be 33 years old by Week 1 of the 2020 season and McCourty's contract will run out after this year. Grant is coming off a highly productive campaign that included 109 tackles, six interceptions, and three forced fumbles.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Josh Rosen admits the trade that sent him packing from the Arizona Cardinals left him disappointed, but the second-year quarterback isn't seeking anybody's pity."I'm fine," he told The MMQB's Robert Klemko. "It's not like I'm some child soldier in Darfur. I've had it pretty good. I think it's time I had some legitimate adversity handed to me."Rosen was dealt to the Miami Dolphins on Friday after the Cardinals selected his replacement, Kyler Murray, first overall at the NFL draft Thursday. A year ago, Arizona traded up to pick Rosen at No. 10 with confidence that he'd blossom into a franchise quarterback. His rookie season didn't go according to plan, however. Rosen struggled statistically, received a new offensive coordinator midseason, and faced criticism over perceived character flaws."I don't think you can go back to any team I ever played on and find someone who will say I was a bad teammate," he said. "All my teammates throughout my entire career in football had my back. I loved them, they loved me. I've never been uncoachable. I've been tough to coach because I'm hypercompetitive and always get to the bottom of things. I can be a prickly personality at times, but none of it's ever malicious. I don't think anyone who really knows me on a deep level thinks I'm a bad guy. I like to think I'm a good guy."A day after the Cardinals selected Murray, Rosen was verbally eviscerated on air by NFL Network analyst Steve Smith. The former receiver challenged Rosen to stay in Arizona and battle Murray for the starting job instead of angling for a trade.Rosen, for what it's worth, told his agent on draft night he'd gladly stay in the desert."If that's their position then I'll just beat him out and Kyler can be the backup," Rosen responded after being informed by his agent the Cardinals weren't guaranteed to trade him.Rosen was introduced Monday to the Miami media. He told reporters he's as motivated as ever to flourish with his new team and doesn't need any additional juice from the rocky start to his career."I don't think my chip's going to grow anymore; I might tip over," he said, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com.The 22-year-old will compete with veteran signal-caller Ryan Fitzpatrick for the Dolphins' starting job.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc.
