Agent: Wilson never wanted to leave Seattle
Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks got a deal done Tuesday that will reportedly make him the NFL's highest-paid player. Before the agreement was reached, there'd been speculation that the quarterback's hard stance during negotiations was a sign he wanted to play elsewhere - a notion Wilson's agent, Mark Rodgers, disputed afterward."Russell loves this town, this team and these fans and part of the compromise involved his affection for all things Seattle," Rodgers told Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. "The idea of playing anywhere else was not as appealing as playing right here, the place he and his family call home."The five-time Pro Bowler's new agreement will keep him in Seattle through the 2023 season. The Seahawks selected Wilson in the third round of the 2012 draft. Since then, he's led the team to the postseason in six of seven seasons and won the championship in Super Bowl XLVIII.The 30-year-old and his wife, Ciara, took to Twitter early Tuesday morning to celebrate the new contract.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Manning found out about OBJ trade while watching TV
It wasn't the New York Giants who told Eli Manning about the blockbuster Odell Beckham Jr. trade with the Cleveland Browns. It wasn't even Beckham himself."I found out just watching TV one night," Manning said Monday on the first day of offseason workouts, according to Giants.com's Michael Eisen."It just came across the (ticker) at the bottom of the screen. Started to get a few texts. That is how I found out."Manning and Beckham spent five seasons together. The star wideout eclipsed 1,000 yards in every year in which he played at least 12 games with the Giants.Manning is entering his 16th season with the Giants, a franchise he's won two Super Bowls with. Still, he wasn't extended a cursory call from the team about the impending trade of its superstar talent. The quarterback said his immediate thoughts turned to his former teammate."The reaction, I wanted to reach out to him. Odell has been a teammate for five years and has been a friend," Manning said. "These circumstances, you think about the player involved. It is more than just a player; it is someone you have a relationship with. You think more about that person, how they are handling it, and that they are OK and doing well with it."Beckham is said to have struggled with the news upon learning he was traded and even announced weeks after that he would take a break from social media to "gather" his thoughts before eventually deleting the post.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Hill present for Chiefs' offseason workouts despite police investigation
The Kansas City Chiefs opened their offseason workout program Monday and wideout Tyreek Hill was in attendance despite being the subject of a police investigation into alleged battery this offseason."I know you're going to potentially ask about Tyreek. Tyreek is here," head coach Andy Reid told reporters, including the Kansas City Star's Pete Grathoff, Sam McDowell, and Blair Kerkhoff, on Monday."I don't have anything further to tell you from the statement we put out. There's been no new news on it. I'm going to leave it at that."An investigation into alleged battery involving Hill's 3-year-old son at his home is ongoing. The Chiefs acknowledged the probe in March and have not released a statement on the situation since.Reid did not go into further detail on Monday."I have had a chance to say hello to him. I have done that. And again, see him in the meeting," the coach said.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning will be revisiting important moments in football history as part of an upcoming 30-episode documentary series.Produced by NFL Films in collaboration with ESPN+, "Peyton's Places" will see Manning speak to former players, coaches, and other figures about the history of football and its cultural impact. "From throwing a football off a skyscraper to re-enacting the Immaculate Reception and running Elvis Presley's football plays, every episode on ESPN+ will surprise even the most die-hard fan."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Wentz not fully healed from season-ending back injury
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is still recovering from the back injury that ended his 2018 campaign, though he expects to be ready for organized team activities in May."That's the goal," Wentz said Monday, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "But there really is no timetable, no rush. But I feel good with the progression I've been on."Wentz, who labeled himself "week-to-week," missed the final three games of the regular season and the Eagles' two playoff contests after being shut down with a stress fracture. The former No. 2 overall pick has had his last two seasons derailed by injury, as an ACL tear prematurely ended his 2017 campaign."It's still getting there," he said of his back. "Some of this stuff just takes time, but that's not really the main concern, it's just kind of how I feel. I feel pretty good with where I'm at."Wentz added that he's confident he'll be able to end concerns about his durability by staying on the field in 2019."I get it. I'm looking forward to putting those (questions) behind me," he said. "I understand it's a part of this league, it's a physical league and things happen. But it's one of those things that's out of my control, and I look forward to putting that behind me."The 26-year-old threw for 3,074 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions over 11 appearances last year. He missed the first two games of the season while recovering from the ACL injury.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Eli Manning assumes Giants will take QB early in draft
The New York Giants have given no public indication they plan to use a premium draft pick on a quarterback, but Eli Manning expects them to do just that on April 25."I figure the Giants are gonna get a young quarterback, I understand that," Manning said Monday as New York began voluntary team workouts, according to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com. "I still have to do my job and do my part. My job, as I see it, is to go out there and play quarterback and win football games."Manning has been treading in uncertain waters with New York for some time. The 38-year-old has struggled to overcome his declining athletic skills in recent years, leading critics to beg the Giants to find his successor.Last year, management passed on a bevy of quarterbacks with the No. 2 overall pick in favor of selecting running back Saquon Barkley. Reports throughout this offseason have suggested the Giants aren't overly enamored with this year's quarterback class, although the team is hosting Ohio State product Dwayne Haskins this week.Manning is entering the final year of his contract. He told the Giants early in the offseason that he intended to return for 2019, but said the team didn't commit to keeping him until more recently, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. The veteran threw for 4,299 yards with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes last season, but largely struggled when throwing deeper down the field.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Dwayne Haskins set for 2-day visit with Giants
With just over a week until the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Giants will reportedly be getting a long look at one of the top quarterback prospects.Dwayne Haskins will visit with the Giants, who hold the No. 6 overall pick, on both Monday and Tuesday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Ohio State product has been widely connected to the Giants this offseason and he's made no secret of his hope to land with New York."Growing up in New Jersey, I grew up a Giants fan so it would be a dream come true going back home where my family is and play for that great franchise," Haskins told ESPN's Jordan Raanan in March. The Giants have already met privately with Haskins and were present at Ohio State's pro day despite some reports indicating the team is not targeting the Heisman finalist and is instead considering a pass-rusher with the sixth overall pick.Meanwhile, Haskins met with the Denver Broncos and the Washington Redskins last week, and is reportedly very high on the Oakland Raiders' radar for the No. 4 overall selection.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Brady not expected at voluntary workouts for 2nd straight year
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is expected to skip voluntary team workouts for the second consecutive offseason, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. The 41-year-old missed last year's sessions and later attributed the decision to his desire to spend more time with his family.Brady threw for 4,355 yards with 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season. Report: Wilson wants 1st-ever NFL contract linked to salary cap increases
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is looking to set a new precedent by signing a contract that can rise in future years based on increases in the NFL's salary cap or new revenue streams the league may acquire, sources told NBC Sports' Peter King.New revenue streams for the NFL could include gambling or future TV contracts.Such a deal would be the first in history to fluctuate based on the league's unknown bottom line in future years, according to King.Wilson, who's entering the final year of his current deal, has set an April 15 deadline for getting a new long-term contract done with the Seahawks.King also reported that Wilson likely won't sign a long-term deal with Seattle if it isn't agreed upon by Monday, and will instead opt to play under the franchise tag in 2020 ($30.3 million) and in 2021 ($36.4 million).Franchise tagging Wilson for a third year would cost $52.4 million in 2022.Wilson's hard stance in negotiations has led to reports that he's interested in playing for a different team. However, even without a deal in place, the quarterback will reportedly attend the first day of Seattle's offseason program.Wilson has spent his entire career in Seattle and has never missed a start since entering the league in 2012. Report: Wilson will report to Seahawks even without new deal
It appears Seattle Seahawks fans can breathe easy, at least for now.Star quarterback Russell Wilson will attend the first day of Seattle's offseason program regardless if a long-term contract is in place, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.Wilson reportedly told the Seahawks that he wants a contract extension by April 15, but there have been no signs of progress between the two sides. The news comes shortly after reports surfaced that the 30-year-old wants to play for another team, and his unspoken desire to move on has led him to take a harder stance during contract negotiations.Wilson said recently that his next contract could make him the NFL's highest-paid player. The quarterback has spent his entire career in Seattle, earning six Pro Bowl selections and leading the club to a championship in Super Bowl XLVIII.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Texans, Clowney not expected to agree on contract anytime soon
It appears a long-term contract agreement between the Houston Texans and franchise-tagged pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney isn't on the horizon just yet.The two sides are still far apart in negotiations and a deal isn't expected to be finalized anytime soon, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.Houston slapped Clowney with the tag prior to the February deadline and he has until July 15 to agree on a new contract. After this, the 26-year-old can only sign his one-year franchise tender.Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in 2014, totaled 47 tackles, nine sacks, and three fumble recoveries during the 2018 campaign.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Seahawks suspect Wilson wants to play elsewhere
The Seattle Seahawks sense Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson wants to play for another team, a league source told Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.Seattle also believes Wilson's unspoken desire to move on has led him to take a harder stance during contract negotiations, according to Florio.Wilson, who's spent his entire career in Seattle, previously gave the Seahawks an April 15 deadline to complete an extension.Rumors throughout the offseason have linked Wilson to the New York Giants. No credible reports have substantiated that speculation, though Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu seems to believe Wilson does indeed have his sights set on the Big Apple.
Redskins' Foster fined 2 game checks, reinstated to active roster
Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster will be fined two game checks, concluding the NFL's investigation into an alleged domestic violence incident, the league announced Friday."The evidence did not support a finding that Foster violated the NFL's personal conduct policy in connection with the Tampa incident in November 2018," the NFL's statement said. The former first-round pick will not be suspended. He has been removed from the commissioner's exempt list and reinstated to Washington's roster.Foster was arrested and charged with a domestic violence misdemeanor in November. The San Francisco 49ers subsequently released him. Washington claimed him on waivers, but the league then placed him on the commissioner's exempt list while it investigated. The charges against Foster were dropped in January."I accept the NFL's decision and want to say that I am truly sorry for my past actions and the people who may have been hurt by them," Foster said in a statement, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. "Going forward, I will follow the plan outlined for me and work hard to earn back the trust of my teammates, the NFL, NFL fans, and the community."Foster's ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, said the linebacker slapped a phone out of her hand, pushed her in the chest area, and slapped the side of her face with an open hand at the team's hotel. After reviewing video from the hotel, the NFL concluded Foster did not violate the league's personal conduct policy, according to NFL.com's Tom Pelissero. The league was reportedly unsuccessful in its attempts to reach Ennis. The linebacker's fine stems from his failure to live up to obligations set forth by the NFL following his 2018 offseason suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct and substances of abuse policies, Pelissero added.Foster is immediately able to participate in all team activities.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills and Washington Wizards forward Devin Robinson were arrested Friday night after fighting each other outside a Washington nightclub, according to a police report obtained by Rudy Chinchilla of NBC Philadelphia. Both men were arrested for disorderly affray, though Robinson was hospitalized for the injuries he sustained.Mills, a three-year member of the Eagles, broke up nine passes over eight contests last season, and he collected three interceptions in 2017.Robinson was informed by the Wizards following the incident that he would not receive a qualifying offer for the 2019-20 season, making him a free agent. He appeared in seven games for the Wizards this season, spending the bulk of his campaign in the NBA G League.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Favre: Rodgers-McCarthy Packers should have won more
Everyone has an opinion on the Green Bay Packers, especially in light of a scathing article by Bleacher Report about reported inner turmoil on the team.Packers legend Brett Favre believes the details in the article were likely blown out of proportion, but he agrees with one prevailing sentiment."One of the things I agree on in that article is, they really should have won more. For whatever reason, they didn't," Favre said to TMZ. "They were that good and they had the best player in the game. I just felt like they should have won more."Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former coach Mike McCarthy won a Super Bowl together in 2010, Rodgers' third season as the starter, but never reached the title game again, despite a 15-1 record the year after and two more conference championship game appearances.McCarthy was fired during the 2018 season, the Packers' second consecutive year without a trip to the playoffs.Favre doesn't believe the article will have lasting affects."I think it's unfortunate but I don't think it will affect what will happen in the future, especially while Aaron is still the quarterback," he said. "There's absolutely no doubt that he's probably the most dynamic player in the game right now, maybe ever."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. McVay: Gurley will be focal point of Rams' offense again
After an explosive season, Todd Gurley's role in the Los Angeles Rams' offense dwindled during the playoffs as the running back dealt with arthritis in his knee. However, head coach Sean McVay is adamant that Gurley's workload won't be limited to start the 2019 season."You can expect Todd to be a focal point of our offense going forward," McVay said on the "Rich Eisen Show" on Friday. "He's in a good place, he's feeling good, and will continue to be a central piece of our offense and I don't see that changing."The 24-year-old Gurley averaged 58 snaps per game during the regular season but saw his usage drop to 39 per contest in the playoffs as he split duties with C.J. Anderson."(Gurley) was obviously banged up at the end of the year," McVay said. "The New Orleans game was just how the game played out ... In the Super Bowl, he made a couple big-time runs ... Our offense didn't produce. That's where I have to do a better job."Gurley accumulated 1251 rushing yards, 580 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns last season.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Kraft's attorney asks judge to suppress spa videos: 'It's basically pornography'
A hearing for the soliciting prostitution charges against New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft took place Friday, during which his defense team asked to suppress the public release of videos involving Kraft at a day spa."It's basically pornography," attorney William Burck said to Judge Leonard Hasner, according to Shalise Manza Young of Yahoo Sports. "There's no interest in actually seeing the video unless you have a prurient interest in seeing the video."Kraft was charged in February for paying money in exchange for sexual acts within the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Fla., which authorities alleged was tied to a human trafficking ring.A number of media outlets have since requested the release of the videos in accordance with Florida's public records law. No ruling was made Friday.Meanwhile, prosecutors in the case admitted Friday in court that nobody involved will be charged with human trafficking because there was no evidence found in the investigation, ESPN's Michele Steele reported.
Tom Brady no longer allowed to play in preferred helmet
The NFL released its helmet laboratory testing performance results Friday and it will result in a significant change for Tom Brady. The New England Patriots quarterback and six-time Super Bowl champion will have to find new headwear as the grandfather clause that allowed him to play in a prohibited helmet has now expired following the results of the NFL's study, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports. In fact, 32 players will now have to switch to approved helmets."The prohibited helmets will not be allowed in the locker room. A player will not be allowed on the field (wearing such a helmet)," NFL executive vice president of health and safety initiatives Jeff Miller said Friday.Brady has played in a Riddell VSR-4 helmet, which is now one of 11 helmets prohibited for all NFL players.
Gruden shared draft advice with Mayock: 'Don't mess it up'
All eyes are on new Oakland Raiders general manager Mike Mayock as the 2019 NFL Draft approaches, especially head coach Jon Gruden's.Mayock shared the advice he was given by Gruden ahead of his first draft with the Raiders."Don't mess it up, dude," Gruden told Mayock, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "I took a lot of slings to get you three first-round picks."Oakland holds the No. 4, No. 24, and No. 27 picks, and Mayock understands the importance of adding long-term assets in 2019."We better get four foundation football players," Mayock said. "We define foundation as talent and football character. That's what we want. Guys that love the game. And if we don't move up or down or anywhere, man, we better get four of those guys."Mayock added, "But at the end of the day, here's the deal. If we win, everything will be fine. Ranking the 10 best draft hauls of the last 5 years
Simply put, the NFL draft is a crapshoot.Even after months of researching prospects and analyzing everything from three-cone drills to favorite breakfast cereals, first-round picks have roughly a 50-50 chance of being a success; selections after the fourth round are widely recognized as blindfolded throws at the dartboard. But great draft classes, while rare, do happen - and they can change the course of a franchise, or sometimes the entire league. Here, we rank the 10 best hauls since 2014:10. 2016 Atlanta FalconsRound Pick Player117S Keanu Neal252LB Deion Jones381TE Austin Hooper4115LB De'Vondre Campbell6195G Wes Schweitzer7238WR Devin FullerThomas Dimitroff and the Falcons brass found a lot of value with their six selections in 2016. Picking in the middle of each round, Atlanta found three Day 1 starters with its first three picks and an eventual starting guard in sixth-rounder Wes Schweitzer.Keanu Neal and Deion Jones became Pro Bowlers by their second seasons while Austin Hooper took over an important role in the Atlanta offense left barren by the retirement of Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez in 2013. - McClymont9. 2014 Oakland RaidersRoundPickPlayer15DE Khalil Mack236QB Derek Carr381G Gabe Jackson4107DT Justin Ellis4116CB Keith McGill7219DB T.J. Carrie7235DE Shelby Harris7247S Jonathan DowlingThis class would've been much higher on the list just a few years ago when Derek Carr was garnering MVP talk and Khalil Mack still wore silver and black. But Carr hasn't looked like the same player over the past two seasons, and it's impossible not to penalize the Raiders for shipping out the best player they've drafted since Charles Woodson in 1998 during his prime, no matter the return they received for Mack.Aside from Carr and Mack, the Raiders also landed a handful of productive players later in the draft. Gabe Jackson has been a staple of the offensive line from Day 1, Justin Ellis is a solid starter and run defender, and T.J. Carrie appeared in 60 games before leaving in 2018. - Browne8. 2014 St. Louis RamsRoundPickPlayer12OT Greg Robinson113DT Aaron Donald241S Lamarcus Joyner375RB Tre Mason4100S Maurice Alexander6188CB E.J. He represents a substantial miss in a class that also included Khalil Mack, Odell Beckham Jr., Taylor Lewan, and Mike Evans, players selected before the Rams' next turn at the dais. There were certainly some misses among the Rams' 11 selections, but the Lamarcus Joyner and E.J. Gaines picks boost this haul to above grade. - McClymont7. 2017 Pittsburgh SteelersRoundPickPlayer 130LB T.J. Watt - after a 111-catch year and a 13-sack campaign, respectively - would easily be top-10 picks if the 2017 group was redrafted, while Conner demonstrated first-round value after his own breakout season.Cameron Sutton flashed talent in limited action in 2018 after an injury-filled rookie season, but he's been a disappointment for a team that's long been seeking an answer at cornerback. The rest of the class is a wash, but that hardly matters when Pittsburgh arguably landed three first-round talents despite its highest pick being 30th overall. - Browne6. 2015 Minnesota VikingsRoundPickPlayer 111CB Trae Waynes245LB Eric Kendricks388DE Danielle Hunter4110OT T.J. The Vikings nailed their next two picks. Eric Kendricks has led the team in tackles in every season since he was drafted and Danielle Hunter has been corralling quarterbacks since his debut, with 40 sacks in four seasons. Then there's Stefon Diggs. Injuries dropped the former five-star recruit to a fifth-round selection and the Vikings have since reaped the benefits. He produced his first 1,000-yard season in 2018 and has formed a deadly tandem with undrafted teammate Adam Thielen. - McClymont5. 2018 Indianapolis ColtsRoundPickPlayer16G Quenton Nelson236LB Darius Leonard237OT Braden Smith252DE Kemoko Turay264DE Tyquan Lewis4104RB Nyheim Hines5159WR Daurice Fountain5169RB Jordan Wilkins6185WR Deon Cain7221LB Matthew Adams7235LB Zaire FranklinThe Colts' 2018 draft class might just be a year old, but it deserves a top-five spot after producing the only rookie All-Pro teammates in NFL history.Quenton Nelson was universally considered an instant game-changer, but general manager Chris Ballard deserves credit for eschewing conventional positional value with his first pick. In contrast, the small-school Darius Leonard was viewed as one of the worst Day 2 picks in the immediate aftermath, only for the linebacker to embarrass his doubters by comfortably leading the league in tackles and winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.Aside from adding elite talent, Indy also unearthed vital depth. Braden Smith locked down the right tackle spot, Kemoko Turay had four sacks in limited snaps, Nyheim Hines caught 63 passes in a scatback role, and both seventh-rounders appeared in all 16 games. The small sample size likely benefits how we view this class, but if it can hit its potential, it could challenge for the top spot in a few years time. - Browne4. 2016 Jacksonville JaguarsRoundPickPlayer15CB Jalen Ramsey236LB Myles Jack369DE Yannick Ngakoue4103DT Sheldon Day6181LB Tyrone Holmes6201QB Brandon Allen7226DE Jonathan WoodardThe Jaguars completely rebuilt their defense with their first three picks of the 2016 draft. All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey is now the franchise cornerstone, buttressed by linebacker Myles Jack and blooming defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. That trio already has three Pro Bowls between them. Along with 2017 first-round pick Leonard Fournette, they are the building blocks on which the 2017 AFC Championship Game finalists were constructed.Jacksonville has finished in the top six in team defense in each of the past three years and has this draft haul to thank. - McClymont3. 2018 Cleveland BrownsRoundPickPlayer11QB Baker Mayfield14CB Denzel Ward233G Austin Corbett235RB Nick Chubb367DE Chad Thomas4105WR Antonio Callaway5150LB Genard Avery6175WR Damion Ratley6188DB Simeon ThomasIt's easy to forget now, but it wasn't until days before the draft that Baker Mayfield was mentioned as a top contender to go No. 1 overall, as Saquon Barkley, Sam Darnold, and - to a lesser extent - Josh Allen dominated the conversation. But Mayfield turned out to be the Browns' man, and GM John Dorsey was quickly proven right as the quarterback looked like an instant star. The selection of Denzel Ward was also met with surprise, as most expected Cleveland to snap up defensive end Bradley Chubb to partner with Myles Garrett. But again, Dorsey's decision was instantly justified as Ward made the Pro Bowl, filling the team's long-time need for a true shutdown corner. Meanwhile, Nick Chubb came four yards shy of 1,000 and scored just five fewer touchdowns than Barkley (15 versus 10) despite being out-touched 352 to 212.Cleveland also got valuable snaps from Antonio Callaway (43 catches) and Genard Avery (40 tackles). Meanwhile, Lattimore didn't allow a single touchdown as a rookie and only gave up two in 2018.The Saints also added a third instantly elite player in right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, who looked like a seasoned veteran from Day 1. Former players, employee file separate class-action lawsuits vs. AAF
Former Alliance of American Football players Colton Schmidt and Reggie Northrup have filed a class-action lawsuit against the league after it shut down operations in its first season, ESPN's Michael Rothstein and Kyle Bonagura report. In a separate motion, James Earnest Roberson Jr., the former director of community relations for the Birmingham Iron, has filed a class-action lawsuit against the AAF and a number of its investors.Schmidt, who was a punter for the Iron, and Northrup, who played linebacker for the Orlando Apollos, maintain that they would not have joined the league had they known it was not financially stable. The players allege breach of contract, breach of implied good faith and fair dealings, failure to pay wages, and fraud and false promises by the AAF. They're suing for damages and requesting that each person who joins the suit, which has generated interest among other players, receive three times the damages endured.Roberson, meanwhile, alleges the AAF violated the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which mandates employees receive 60 days' advance written notice ahead of mass layoffs. The AAF kicked off the weekend after Super Bowl LIII and suspended operations April 2 with two weeks remaining in the regular season.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Kyler Murray visits Giants
The New York Giants appear to be doing their homework on the top quarterback prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft class.Projected first-round pick Kyler Murray visited the Giants on Thursday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Murray posted a photo of the team's training facility on his Instagram story (shared by ESPN's Adam Schefter), appearing to confirm the news.Though New York general manager Dave Gettleman has reiterated his commitment to veteran starter Eli Manning for 2019, his club may still be in the market for Manning's eventual successor. The Giants hold the sixth and 17th overall pick in the draft, but could also be eyeing a pass-rusher with their top selection.Murray has visited a number of clubs selecting in the top 15 during the pre-draft process, including the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, and Arizona Cardinals.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Ravens extend Pro Bowler Yanda through 2020
The Baltimore Ravens have reached an agreement with guard Marshal Yanda on a one-year extension that will keep him contracted through the 2020 season, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. It had been speculated that the seven-time Pro Bowler could retire after the 2019 campaign when his existing deal expires.Yanda has spent his entire 12-season career in Baltimore after being taken in the third round of the 2007 draft. He played in all 16 games last year and looked completely recovered from the broken ankle that ended his 2017 campaign after two games.Last season, the 34-year-old lineman was a key part of the Ravens' rushing attack - which emerged as an elite unit after the switch to Lamar Jackson at quarterback - finishing as Pro Football Focus' fourth-ranked guard.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL Mock Draft 5.0: Packers land star receiver as Haskins, Lock slide
With the 2019 NFL draft just two weeks away, theScore's Dane Belbeck, Daniel Wilkins, and Mike Alessandrini project the first 32 picks.1. Arizona Cardinals - Kyler Murray, QB, OklahomaThe Cardinals have played it cool on the Josh Rosen front, but with so much smoke around Murray heading to Arizona, it's only a matter of time before we see the fire. The Oklahoma star met with the Cardinals' brass once again and it seems inevitable we hear his name called first on draft night. Paired with Kliff Kingsbury, the electric pivot will immediately make Arizona one of the NFC's most intriguing outfits. - Belbeck2. San Francisco 49ers - Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio StateJamie Sabau / Getty Images Sport / GettyWith Murray off the board, John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan will have the pick of the defensive litter. Arguably the top overall player in this year's class, Bosa would combine with newly-acquired Dee Ford to form a lethal pass-rush duo and allow 2017 first-round pick Solomon Thomas to play primarily as an interior defender. - Alessandrini3. New York Jets - Josh Allen, OLB, KentuckyThe Jets have had a need on the edge for years. Allen finally gives them an opportunity to address that without reaching, as his phenomenal senior season at Kentucky made him a consensus top-five talent in this draft. - Wilkins4. Oakland Raiders - Quinnen Williams, DT, AlabamaYou can toss positional fit out the window with this one - the Raiders will run to the podium to draft Williams at No. 4, regardless of their needs in other areas. Arguably the best prospect in the entire draft, the Alabama standout will immediately give Jon Gruden the defensive star he craves. - Belbeck5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Ed Oliver, DT, HoustonThe Buccaneers are prime candidates to trade down but expect them to select the top defensive player on their board if they stay at No. 5. Oliver is already a perfect fit for Tampa's first-round selection and could be an even more realistic pick if the team parts ways with Gerald McCoy. - Alessandrini6. New York Giants - Rashan Gary, DL, MichiganIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyAdding to the pass rush would be the Giants' most logical move if they pass on a quarterback with the first of two picks on Day 1. Gary is an elite athlete with a ton of projectable traits and could be a productive pro both on the edge and inside. - Wilkins7. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jawaan Taylor, OT, FloridaTaylor is arguably the best run-blocking lineman in this draft, a trait that will definitely get Tom Coughlin fired up at No. 7. The Jaguars led the NFL in rushing in 2017 but dropped to 19th last season as Leonard Fournette battled injury. Adding Nick Foles helps the entire offense, but re-establishing a dominant rushing attack is key for Jacksonville to return to the playoffs. Taylor should help significantly. - Belbeck8. Detroit Lions - Montez Sweat, DE, Mississippi StateMatt Patricia's defense features a stout front four but could still use some added pass-rushers on the edge. Sweat brings explosive athleticism and excellent college production to the table and appears locked into the top 15. - Alessandrini9. Buffalo Bills - T.J. Hockenson, TE, IowaHockenson is the rare tight end worthy of an early first-round pick. A complete package who can dominate both as a receiver and as an in-line blocker, the Iowa product would pair nicely with Josh Allen in the Bills' new-look offense. - Wilkins10. Denver Broncos - Devin White, LB, LSUIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThough most have the Broncos taking a quarterback at No. 10, it's a safe bet that new head coach Vic Fangio wants a defensive superstar at his disposal. Adding the ultra-athletic White to a defense that includes Von Miller and Bradley Chubb is a scary prospect for the rest of the AFC. - Belbeck11. Cincinnati Bengals - Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio StateNew head coach Zac Taylor gets his guy. The Bengals don't appear likely to trade up for a quarterback but could select a top-tier passer if one falls to No. 11. With Andy Dalton's long-term future with the team in limbo, Haskins makes perfect sense here. - Alessandrini12. Green Bay Packers - D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole MissHow fun would this be? The old Packers probably wouldn't take a receiver so high in the first round, but another busy free-agent period indicates this is clearly a new team with Brian Gutekunst as general manager. Giving Aaron Rodgers a massive vertical threat like Metcalf could take Green Bay's offense to another level. - Wilkins13. Miami Dolphins - Jonah Williams, OT, AlabamaWith Ja'Wuan James off to Denver, the Dolphins have a hole at right tackle. Williams immediately helps in that area. Isaac Asiata and Chris Reed are far from sure things at guard, and Williams is versatile enough to slide into that slot. - Belbeck14. Atlanta Falcons - Brian Burns, DE, Florida State Don Juan Moore / Getty Images Sport / GettyAtlanta drafted Takkarist McKinley in 2017, but it would be incredibly difficult to pass on Burns here. The former Seminoles pass-rusher is an excellent fit in Dan Quinn's defense and is arguably the top player on the board at this selection. Besides, Vic Beasley hasn't exactly lived up to the hype after a stellar 2016 season. - Alessandrini15. Washington Redskins - Drew Lock, QB, MissouriWhether it's using a first-round pick or trading for Josh Rosen, the Redskins have to come away from this draft with a quarterback. Lock's got some things to clean up as he transitions to the next level, but who doesn't? His arm and athleticism give him a ton of upside. - Wilkins16. Carolina Panthers - Clelin Ferrell, DE, ClemsonFerrell may not be the athlete that other edge rushers on the board are, but he proved his skills during a brilliant career at Clemson. The Panthers desperately need help on the edge to pressure in-division quarterbacks like Matt Ryan and Drew Brees, and Ferrell makes too much sense to pass on here. - Belbeck17. New York Giants (from CLE) - Daniel Jones, QB, DukeDave Gettleman finds his successor to Eli Manning. Jones may end up being a top-15 pick come draft night and the Giants are rumored to be interested in the former Duke passer. New York is committed to Eli for 2019 but lacks a long-term solution after that. - Alessandrini18. Minnesota Vikings - Andre Dillard, OT, Washington StateIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThe Vikings should probably be prepared for a scenario in which a top offensive tackle isn't available at No. 18; the value of the position so often results in players going earlier than expected. But the board falls perfectly for Minnesota in this situation. Dillard would be a major upgrade at left tackle from Day 1. - Wilkins19. Tennessee Titans - Christian Wilkins, DT, ClemsonMike Vrabel is likely to address defense with the 19th pick and the Clemson defensive tackle would be a great fit for the Titans. Wilkins, who already has a relationship with Vrabel from the coach's recruiting days at Ohio State, should immediately slide in alongside Jurrell Casey to give Tennessee a formidable interior line. - Belbeck20. Pittsburgh Steelers - Devin Bush, LB, MichiganThis pick is as easy as it gets. The Steelers have a glaring need at linebacker and Bush is a phenomenal prospect. If the former Michigan standout is available at No. 20, expect Pittsburgh to rush to the podium and select him. - Alessandrini21. Seattle Seahawks - Greedy Williams, CB, LSUThe restocking of a once-great defense continues with a massive addition at cornerback as the Seahawks take someone they hope can become the next Richard Sherman. Williams is another tall corner who excels in press coverage and makes plays on the ball. - Wilkins22. Baltimore Ravens - Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa StateIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyIt's Butler's highlight-reel catches that pop to most people, but the Iowa State product is an absolute beast as a run-blocker. That will make the 6-foot-5, 227-pounder a very attractive pick for a Ravens offense led by Lamar Jackson. Butler can be a solid red-zone weapon for the 2nd-year quarterback while opening tons of lanes in the rushing attack. - Belbeck23. Houston Texans - Cody Ford, OT, OklahomaThe Texans allowed a league-high 62 sacks in 2018 and are desperate for help on the offensive line. If Bill O'Brien plans on keeping Deshaun Watson in one piece, he'd be wise to select Ford with this pick. The former Sooners blocker could provide an instant upgrade at right tackle. - Alessandrini24. Oakland Raiders (from CHI) - Noah Fant, TE, IowaIf Fant is available at this point, it would be huge for a Raiders team that lost Jared Cook in free agency. Adding a freak athlete at tight end to complement the offseason additions of Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams at receiver would give the Raiders an incredibly interesting group of pass-catchers. - Wilkins25. Philadelphia Eagles - Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi StateSimmons is unlikely to play during the 2019 season after tearing his ACL during a workout, but the Eagles are in a position where they can wait on such a talented player. Philadelphia rode a dominant defensive line to a Super Bowl in 2018 and the Mississippi State product would mesh perfectly with Jim Schwartz's scheme. - Belbeck26. Indianapolis Colts - Dexter Lawrence, DT, ClemsonGrant Halverson / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Colts have few needs on their talented roster, so general manager Chris Ballard can take the top prospect on his board regardless of position. That player may be Lawrence, who would immediately slot in as an impact run defender with pass-rush upside on a team with Super Bowl aspirations. - Alessandrini27. Oakland Raiders (from DAL) - Marquise Brown, WR, OklahomaIdeally, the Raiders address their need on the edge in the first round. But with the top remaining pass-rushers likely available when Oakland next picks at No. 35 overall, Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock put it off a little longer. Brown, the cousin of new Raiders receiver Antonio Brown, caps off Oakland's offensive makeover with his game-breaking ability at all levels of the field. - Wilkins28. Los Angeles Chargers - Jerry Tillery, DT, Notre DameTillery was a star at the combine and his measurables and athletic testing jump off the page. Though the Chargers are set on the edge with Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, they lack a disruptor on the interior. Taking Tillery at No. 28 solves that problem. - Belbeck29. Kansas City Chiefs - Byron Murphy, CB, WashingtonMurphy falling to the Chiefs would be a perfect situation for the AFC's defending No. 1 seed. The former Huskies cornerback fills an immediate need in Kansas City's leaky secondary and is arguably the top player on the board in this scenario. - Alessandrini30. Green Bay Packers (from NO) - Garrett Bradbury, OL, NC StateIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyGreen Bay uses its second of two first-round picks to solidify the offensive line in front of Aaron Rodgers. Whether at guard or center, Bradbury will be an impact interior starter for years to come. - Wilkins31. Los Angeles Rams - Chris Lindstrom, G, Boston CollegeLindstrom is as versatile a lineman as there is in this draft, with 36 collegiate starts at guard and 11 at tackle. After losing Rodger Saffold in the offseason, the Rams need a top offensive-line talent and Lindstrom is the best one available at No. 31. - Belbeck32. New England Patriots - N'Keal Harry, WR, Arizona StateSome fun to end the first round. The Patriots' depth chart at receiver offers little star power outside of Julian Edelman, and Harry would provide some much-needed size to the group. Adding a playmaker of his quality to Tom Brady's arsenal poses a dangerous threat. - AlessandriniCopyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Foster urges ex-Steelers players to stop publicly airing issues with team
Pittsburgh Steelers guard Ramon Foster has had enough of his team's dirty laundry being aired through the media. In a statement Thursday, Foster implored former Steelers players to contact him or fellow offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey directly to discuss any issues they have - instead of making their criticisms public and potentially burning "too many bridges."

Warning: Story contains coarse languageThe 2019 NFL regular-season schedule has yet to be released to the general public, but Odell Beckham Jr. has already got his hands on it.The new Cleveland Browns receiver wrote on Twitter Wednesday night that he has "seen the schedule" and that it includes a "Week 1 surprise."
Packers president: Critical report has 'a lot of stuff just made up'
Aaron Rodgers has denounced an article detailing the Green Bay Packers' alleged inner turmoil and now team president Mark Murphy has joined him. After Rodgers called a Bleacher Report story a "smear attack" earlier this week, Murphy seconded his quarterback's assessment."It's a lot of half-truths and a lot of stuff just made up," Murphy told Scott Emerich of WXOW 19 on Wednesday.A source told Bleacher Report's Tyler Dunne that before announcing Matt LaFleur as the Packers' new head coach, Murphy called Rodgers and said, "don't be the problem." Murphy denies that."That conversation that allegedly took place between Aaron and I was completely false. We had a great conversation. It was very positive," Murphy said. "We talked about Matt LaFleur and I said, 'Aaron, I think this change is going to be great for you and the organization' and he was very positive."Murphy also refuted the level of organizational infighting suggested in the article."If things were as bad as that article implied, we never would've won a Super Bowl," he said. "We never would've gone to eight straight playoffs. It was certainly exaggerated."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Report: Redskins aren't pursuing Josh Rosen
As Josh Rosen trade speculation increases prior to the draft, one potential destination doesn't appear to be in the cards. The Washington Redskins, long seen as a favorite to land the second-year quarterback, have yet to engage in serious discussions with the Arizona Cardinals."They have done a little bit of homework here, at least tried to figure out what the Cardinals' price would be," NFL Network's Mike Garafolo said on the "Around the NFL" podcast Wednesday."But they're not actively chasing him and I don't know that they have a hard offer on the table because I know for a fact that they're still going through the motions with the guys in the draft apparently."Garafolo added that he doesn't believe there's a "sizzling market" for Rosen.Arizona holds the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and the team has been linked to former Oklahoma pivot Kyler Murray. Washington is also in the market for a quarterback with Alex Smith's NFL future up in the air.Elsewhere, the New York Giants reportedly aren't interested in sending either of their first-round picks (No. 6 and No. 17) to the Cardinals for Rosen.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New York Giants are reportedly finalizing a four-year, $41-million extension with wide receiver Sterling Shepard, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Shepard's new deal includes $21.3 million in guaranteed money, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.A second-round pick in 2016, Shepard was entering the final year of his rookie deal. The 25-year-old is set to see an increase in targets after New York traded Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. Report: Raiders 'very high' on Dwayne Haskins
Conflicting reports have emerged in recent weeks regarding Dwayne Haskins' standing in the first round of the NFL draft. While some teams may have soured on Haskins, the Oakland Raiders are "very high" on the pivot, NFL Network's Mike Silver reports. The Raiders own the No. 4 overall pick in the draft and are considering taking a quarterback, according to Silver, despite the presence of Derek Carr. Kyler Murray is the prime target with the fourth pick, however, if he's not available, Oakland could reportedly target Haskins with its 24th or 27th overall pick. The Raiders have held pre-draft workouts with both Murray and Haskins.Carr is set to enter his sixth season with the Raiders. He threw for more than 4,000 yards for the first time in his career in 2018 and added 19 touchdown passes against 10 interceptions.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Fantasy: Which QB prospects have the best chance to become stars?
Find positional rankings, additional analysis, and subscribe to push notifications in the NFL Fantasy News section. With the 2019 NFL Draft just a few weeks away, we’ve had time to go over prospects' game tape, analyze their athletic testing, watch interviews, and assemble as many puzzle pieces as possible to project what their professional careers will look like.As we wait to find out how NFL front offices value the incoming crop of rookies, we can begin to translate available information to help us make fantasy decisions in the future.Landing spots will have a major impact, not only in terms of a player's opportunity and draft capital but also coaching and team culture. A promising athlete drafted into a positive environment has an opening to reach his full potential, while the same player selected by the wrong team may never overcome his situation. The range of outcomes for college stars entering the pros is vast, but let's start this series by taking a look at the quarterbacks most likely to become fantasy relevant at the next level.Potential franchise-changerKyler Murray, OklahomaIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyMost rookie classes are limited in the number of starting quarterbacks they deliver to the league and this year it may only be one - Murray. All signs point to the Oklahoma product being selected No. 1 in the draft, either by the Cardinals, who currently hold the first overall pick, or by another team that moves into the first spot if Arizona is faking its interest to maximize the return in a potential trade.Unlike most of the passers coming out, Murray is capable of starting right away. He has a strong pocket awareness and is outstanding at extending plays, consistently keeping his eyes downfield even when pressured. His speed and smooth running style will keep defenses honest and could help him find early success similar to Russell Wilson.Standing at 5-foot-10, his height seems to be the biggest knock on his game by those in the industry, but it rarely resulted in passes being batted down. He was well below other top prospects in that category last season, according to the NFL Media Research Department, despite giving up at least five inches to each of them.PlayerBatted PassesDaniel Jones12Drew Lock8Dwayne Haskins5Kyler Murray5Murray doesn't have the arm strength that some of the other quarterbacks on this list possess, but there isn't a throw on the field he can't make. My only concerns would be his tendency to miss his pass-catchers high at times and a need to improve his anticipation on throws; however, both can be worked on and neither scares me away from his overall talent.Fantasy outlook: If he ends up with the Cardinals, Murray will find himself in what's projected to be a high-volume passing attack under Kliff Kingsbury, an offensive-minded head coach known for a spread attack. That system will open holes for Murray to capitalize on with his legs while giving him the volume to produce as a passer.David Johnson is one of the league's most dynamic pass-catchers out of the backfield, sophomore Christian Kirk showed signs of game-breaking skills as a rookie, and Larry Fitzgerald remains a dependable force in the slot. With his dual-threat ability, Murray could put up fringe top-12 fantasy stats in his first year. Remember, less accomplished passers like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen cracked fantasy lineups in the second half of the 2018 season thanks to their production on the ground.Needs some timeDwayne Haskins, Ohio StateAndy Lyons / Getty Images Sport / GettyThere are many Haskins supporters out there, who see him as the top quarterback prospect in 2019. I don’t agree with them.Haskins definitely improved over his final few games, but he's a player who will require a year or two of seasoning if he's going to be a quality starter in the pros. Unlike Murray, Haskins doesn't have the athleticism to fall back on as he gets acclimated to a higher level of competition. His extremely slow 5.04-second 40-yard dash time wasn't surprising as his success in college wasn't due to mobility. And though Haskins is a lock to hear his name called during the opening night of the draft, it does cast doubt on his future when you consider that Mark Sanchez is the only quarterback since 2003 to be drafted in the first round after posting a 40 time above five seconds.Haskins posted other eyebrow-raising numbers during physical testing, as well. His ball velocity ranked second-worst among quarterbacks who threw at the combine. It doesn't preclude him from prospering in the NFL, but it's worrisome for an old-school pocket-passer type. The only players we've seen excel despite low-end velocity scores have been runners like Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson.I'll admit that arm strength didn't stand out as a problem area for Haskins during Ohio State's games. His passing issues revolved around a tendency to make very dangerous decisions when pressured, an inconsistent touch on short and intermediate throws (especially screens), and a throwing motion that could be refined by better coaching. If he can continue the development he showed over his final few contests, he'll become the face of a franchise down the road.Fantasy outlook: Haskins is a dynasty stash, who won't return value in 2019. The worst-case scenario would be a team drafting him and immediately thrusting him into its starting lineup. Holding the clipboard behind a veteran for at least one season is the blueprint for Haskins to eventually emerge as a fantasy starter. His ceiling rests below the elite tier of passers, where someone like Jameis Winston resides, while his floor would put him into the next category as a career backup.Backup boundDrew Lock, Missouri
Report: Patriots sign Seferian-Jenkins, bring in Demaryius Thomas for visit
The New England Patriots have inked free-agent tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins to a one-year deal, ESPN's Field Yates reported, citing a source. The move fills a void on the Patriots' depth chart after Rob Gronkowski retired following Super Bowl LIII.New England also brought in wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and running back T.J. Yeldon for free-agent visits Wednesday, Yates added. The Patriots are in desperate need of more skill-position talent, and Thomas, while coming off a torn Achilles, is a known commodity who was drafted by New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels while with the Denver Broncos in 2010.The Patriots reportedly chased tight end Jared Cook in free agency but lost his services to the New Orleans Saints. The team also pursued wideout Adam Humphries, but couldn't get him to renege on his agreement with the Tennessee Titans.Seferian-Jenkins has yet to play a full 16-game schedule over his five seasons in the league. He spent 2018 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, getting into five games while recording 11 receptions for 90 yards and one touchdown. His career highs in each receiving category came in 2015 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (21 catches, 338 yards, four touchdowns). The tight end took to Instagram shortly after the reported deal:
Man buys Terrell Owens' storage locker for $4,000 in auction
A Georgia man hit the jackpot when he bid $4,000 on a storage locker containing valuables that belonged to NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens.Owens stopped making payments on the storage unit, which led to its inclusion in an auction, according to Sophia Choi of WSB-TV Atlanta. The locker contained helmets, shoulder pads, playbooks, and autographed memorabilia that previously belonged to Owens.Jim Rice has already begun selling off some of the locker's contents."You better run fast to get some of these items," he said.
David Johnson advises Rosen to 'ignore' Murray rumors
With the NFL draft a mere two weeks away, Josh Rosen will soon learn whether he's still the Arizona Cardinals' franchise quarterback. The current offseason has been dominated by speculation that Arizona might use the No. 1 overall pick on Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Kyler Murray, displacing Rosen in the process. And the speculation will only increase on Wednesday, with Murray expected to visit the Cardinals while Rosen participates in their offseason program. It all makes for soap opera-level drama, but Rosen's teammates are advising him to drown out the noise."I told him, 'Ignore it,'" Cardinals running back David Johnson said to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. "I definitely figured out how to ignore it, and I know he has, too. We don't really know what's going on and what they're talking about with the draft, so come ready to play, learn the playbook and let the chips fall."Johnson and Rosen, who was selected 10th overall in last year's draft, have spent just one season together and it ended in a 3-13 disaster. But the former All-Pro rusher said the young QB is a "great leader" and that he's proven to be wise beyond his years."Everyone says he's a young guy but he's very mature," Johnson added of Rosen. "He knows it's a business. I know he knows how to handle (it)."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Report: Giants won't give up 1st-rounder for Rosen
If Josh Rosen is traded to the New York Giants before the draft, it will apparently be for a discounted price. The Giants aren't interested in sending either of their first-round picks (No. 6, No. 17) to the Arizona Cardinals for the young quarterback and might even consider their second-rounder (No. 37) off-limits, sources told SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. The NFC East team has reportedly discussed acquiring Rosen, who was selected 10th overall last year, but doesn't believe its third-round pick (No. 95) would be enough for Arizona.Vacchiano added that the Giants' biggest issue with Rosen is his personality, which is perceived as arrogant and stands in stark contrast to the media-friendly Eli Manning. The Cardinals own the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft and are widely expected to take quarterback Kyler Murray, which would effectively end Rosen's short time as Arizona's franchise player.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. XFL will use 3 options on extra-point attempts
The XFL is getting creative and tossing aside some traditional football rules.Commissioner Oliver Luck said teams that score a touchdown will have the option to attempt a one-point conversion from the 2-yard line, a two-point try from the 5-yard line, or a three-point attempt from the 10-yard line."We literally have a nine-point touchdown," Luck said to Mike Florio on the ProFootballTalk podcast Monday. "We think that's valuable because teams that historically are down by let's say three scores, well guess what, if it's a 16-point or a 17-point differential, you're really looking at a two-score game theoretically."The league is also experimenting with overtime rules, and the extra quarter will feature 44 players on the field at the same time. Each team's offense and defense will square off on opposite ends of the field and alternate possessions, with the offenses receiving up to five attempts at a two-point conversion. A defensive turnover is worth one point, and the team with the most points at the end of the shootout wins.Luck also mentioned that the XFL will use a 30-second play clock, leading to a quicker pace of play. Games will be limited to three hours, too, including overtime. The XFL is slated to kick off in February 2020.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Draft Needs: Identifying the biggest problem area for every NFC team
theScore goes division by division to identify the most significant remaining hole for every NFC team ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, which takes place April 25 to 27.AFC I NFCNFC EastDallas CowboysBiggest need: Pass-rusherIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyEntering the 2018 season, Dallas needed pass-catchers. But with the additions of Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb, the Cowboys won't need to use a committee approach in 2019. They lured Jason Witten out of retirement to solve their problem at tight end for at least one year, and the team signed safety George Iloka to bolster its secondary. The club also extended DeMarcus Lawrence's contract, but with the losses of Randy Gregory (suspended indefinitely) and David Irving, Dallas should look to add another edge rusher. The Cowboys' secondary played well enough last year to allow them to target a young pass-rusher who can draw double teams away from Lawrence.Potential draft targets: Zach Allen (Boston College), D'Andre Walker (Georgia)New York GiantsBiggest need: QuarterbackThe Giants are dealing with holes at nearly every position, but the most obvious weakness lies at quarterback. New York is likely sticking with Eli Manning for the 2019 season, and if the front office doesn't select his successor in the draft, the Giants will reportedly extend the 38-year-old for another year. The franchise is said to be considering a pass-rusher with the No. 6 pick. The club needs to fill the vacancy left after trading Olivier Vernon, but how long will the Giants keep Manning around? Dave Gettleman insists he has a plan, but that doesn't mean it's a good one.Potential draft targets: Dwayne Haskins (Ohio State), Kyler Murray (Oklahoma)Philadelphia EaglesBiggest need: LinebackerElsa / Getty Images Sport / GettyPhiladelphia addressed various holes this offseason while adding DeSean Jackson, Malik Jackson, Andrew Sendejo, and Vinny Curry. The Eagles added depth to an already stellar defense and brought back key contributors Ronald Darby and Brandon Graham. However, they lost linebacker Jordan Hicks, who signed with the Arizona Cardinals. Nigel Bradham could step up to replace him as the field general, but Hicks’ superior tackling will be difficult to replicate. The Eagles should throw a couple of darts at the position, aiming to add some depth in the middle of the defense.Potential draft targets: Devin Bush (Michigan), Bobby Okereke (Stanford)Washington RedskinsBiggest need: Wide receiverThe losses of Zach Brown and Preston Smith are significant to the Redskins' linebacker corps, but the team will need to focus on the departure of receiver Jamison Crowder during the draft. Case Keenum needs all the help he can get, as the pivot's current top receiving options are Jordan Reed, Josh Doctson, and Paul Richardson. Collectively, Redskins quarterbacks posted a 61.6 passer rating and were intercepted five times when targeting Doctson in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus, while Richardson averaged only 37.4 yards per game. With Alex Smith's future uncertain, the Redskins need to invest in a pass-catcher who can keep Keenum afloat.Potential draft targets: D.K. Metcalf (Ole Miss), A.J. Brown (Ole Miss)NFC WestArizona CardinalsBiggest need: Offensive lineMichael Zagaris / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Cardinals began free agency with a bang, acquiring a wide scope of talent instead of grabbing big-name, big-contract players, and bolstering their defense with acquisitions such as Jordan Hicks, Terrell Suggs, and Robert Alford. However, the additions of Marcus Gilbert, J.R. Sweezy, and Max Garcia may not be enough to improve an offensive line that Pro Football Focus graded as the league's worst in pass-blocking last season. The Cardinals should also keep their eyes on wideout prospects who can make life easier for whoever they start at quarterback in 2019. Chad Williams and Trent Sherfield failed to make an impact after Christian Kirk broke his foot late in the 2018 season, and Larry Fitzgerald won’t be around to lead the position group forever.Potential draft targets: Kaleb McGary (Washington), Dalton Risner (Kansas State)Los Angeles RamsBiggest need: Interior offensive lineOne of the Rams' greatest strengths during their run to the Super Bowl was an offensive line that carved paths for Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson down the stretch. Los Angeles lost offensive-line staples Rodger Saffold and John Sullivan during free agency, and the Rams didn't make any additions along the line, opening the door for selecting a guard or center in the draft. However, the franchise should also scout possible linebackers who could fill in for the departed Mark Barron. The Rams brought back pass-rusher Dante Fowler and signed Clay Matthews, who is expected to primarily be placed on the edge. Los Angeles should look to add depth and select a prospect who can assist Cory Littleton in the box.Potential draft targets: Erik McCoy (Texas A&M), Chris Lindstrom (Boston College)San Francisco 49ersBiggest need: Wide receiverIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyJohn Lynch felt confident enough in the 49ers' receiving corps to not pay the high price for Odell Beckham Jr. or pursue Antonio Brown. After San Francisco declined the player option on Pierre Garcon, Jimmy Garoppolo will have Marquise Goodwin, Dante Pettis, and Jordan Matthews as his receivers. Although head coach Kyle Shanahan can also turn to George Kittle, a deep receiving threat would make an impact in his offense. The team could also use a defensive back to help out aging veteran Richard Sherman. PFF gave the 49ers the worst coverage grade in 2018, and they only grabbed two interceptions.Potential draft targets: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (Stanford), Kelvin Harmon (NC State)Seattle SeahawksBiggest need: GuardDuane Brown solidified the outside of the Seahawks' offensive line in 2018 when the team desperately needed a reliable tackle. But the rest of the offensive line, especially the interior, fell flat. Seattle signed guard Mike Iupati and let J.R. Sweezy walk in free agency to address that issue. But Iupati struggled with the Cardinals last season before being placed on the injured reserve with a knee injury. Finding a reliable guard in the draft could make the difference for the tackles and improve the unit as a whole. The Seahawks could also target a corner, especially after losing Justin Coleman, who signed with the Detroit Lions this offseason. Adding some new talent could help Shaquill Griffin ease into his sophomore season. He struggled to take the reins as the No. 1 corner in 2018, allowing a passer rating of 100.4 when opposing quarterbacks targeted him, per PFF.Potential draft targets: Chris Lindstrom (Boston College), Cody Ford (Oklahoma)NFC NorthChicago BearsIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyBiggest need: Running backJordan Howard's long-rumored departure from the Bears culminated in the running back being traded to the Eagles. Chicago will need more depth at the position, as Tarik Cohen hasn't proven himself as an every-down back. The Bears did sign Mike Davis, but neither Davis nor Cohen can match Howard's blocking skills. The market may be littered with free-agent running backs, but this year’s draft is full of talented Day 2 runners. The Bears are a rare team without glaring holes this offseason. Their defensive line could use more depth, as Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks led Chicago's pass rush in 2018 while combining for 81 pressures.Potential draft targets: Damien Harris (Alabama), Miles Sanders (Penn State)Detroit LionsBiggest need: Pass-rusherThe Lions compensated for losing pass-rusher Ezekiel Ansah and corner Nevin Lawson by acquiring Trey Flowers and Justin Coleman. Detroit now needs depth in those two key defensive areas. If they place Coleman in the slot, the Lions will still need to upgrade at cornerback opposite Darius Slay, especially after their defense tied for the second-fewest interceptions last season with seven. However, the team's greatest need is probably a pass-rusher to complement Flowers, as PFF graded the Lions' pass rush the league's third-worst in 2018, and Detroit was middle-of-the-pack in sacks with 43.Potential draft targets: Montez Sweat (Mississippi State), Brian Burns (Florida State)Green Bay PackersBiggest need: Defensive backJohn McCoy / Getty Images Sport / GettyGreen Bay made a splash this offseason, grabbing Preston Smith, Adrian Amos, and Za'Darius Smith. Boosting the defense is clearly a key goal, as the Packers also used their first two picks last year on corners. The offense became younger with Randall Cobb gone. In Equanimeous St. Brown, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Geronimo Allison, the team has three receivers 25 years old or younger. Adding another young receiver to the mix may be tempting, but the Packers should search for either a safety to work with Amos or a corner. They hit on Jaire Alexander in last year's draft, but Josh Jackson and Josh Jones - who will likely play safety alongside Amos - struggled last season.Potential draft targets: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Florida), Juan Thornhill (Virginia)Minnesota VikingsBiggest need: Offensive lineImproving the offensive line was a priority for the Vikings before free agency, and that goal remains a month later. They brought in Josh Kline after letting Mike Remmers walk, but Minnesota shouldn't stop there. The Vikings signed Dakota Dozier and Brett Jones to add depth, but neither will fix an offensive line that allowed the second-most pressures last season, per PFF. Minnesota doesn't have much cap space to work with, so it could take some fliers on young guards and tackles in the middle rounds.Potential draft targets: Jonah Williams (Alabama), Andre Dillard (Washington State)NFC SouthAtlanta FalconsBiggest need: Pass-rusherDiamond Images / Diamond Images / GettyThe Falcons may have Deion Jones and Ricardo Allen coming back from injury in 2019, but their defense will look very different after losing Brian Poole and Robert Alford. Although Desmond Trufant is returning, Atlanta could look to bolster its secondary through the draft. The unit allowed 259.6 passing yards per game in 2018 (27th). However, the secondary isn't the Falcons' only hole. Premium pass-rushers will still be available when Atlanta is on the clock at No. 14. The team ranked 22nd in sacks while getting subpar play from Vic Beasley Jr. and Takkarist McKinley last season.Potential draft targets: Rashan Gary (Michigan), Jaylon Ferguson (Louisiana Tech)Carolina PanthersBiggest need: SecondaryJames Bradberry and Donte Jackson are the Panthers' top cornerbacks, and they'll play alongside safety Eric Reid. With the departures of Captain Munnerlyn and Mike Adams, the Panthers should look for a young defensive back in the draft. Carolina's secondary was mediocre in 2018, allowing the 15th most yards per game through the air while nabbing only 13 interceptions (15th). Also, the Panthers lost Julius Peppers to retirement and signed Bruce Irvin to replace him. Irvin may have accumulated a similar number of pressures as Peppers last year, but he's not the right impact guy to complement Mario Addison on the edge.Potential draft targets: Greedy Williams (LSU), Deionte Thompson (Alabama)New Orleans SaintsBiggest need: Wide receiverChris Graythen / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Saints evened out every loss during free agency, grabbing Latavius Murray, Nick Easton, and Jared Cook to replace Mark Ingram, Ben Watson, and Max Unger. New Orleans is stacked everywhere, although the team could use a better wideout alongside Michael Thomas. Adding Cook, who will likely work the middle of the field, definitely helps the offense, but plugging a young addition into the receiving corps could draw eyes away from the Saints' star receiver.Potential draft targets: Terry McLaurin (Ohio State), Kelvin Harmon (NC State)Tampa Bay Buccaneers Biggest need: CornerbackThe Buccaneers' defense was abysmal last season, allowing the sixth-most yards (6,134) and surrendering the second-most points (464). With Brent Grimes a free agent, the Bucs will need a young talent to work with Carlton Davis. They didn't strengthen their secondary during free agency, instead opting to acquire linebackers Shaquil Barrett and Deone Bucannon. Tampa Bay should target a corner to help its depleted secondary.Potential draft targets: Byron Murphy (Washington), Deandre Baker (Georgia)Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Kyler Murray headed for visit with Cardinals
With just over two weeks until the 2019 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals are apparently still doing their homework for the No. 1 overall pick.Kyler Murray is traveling to the desert to meet with the Cardinals, a source told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. His meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Oklahoma quarterback will reportedly be accompanied by his agent, who also represents Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury. While Arizona has attempted to keep the league guessing about what it intends to do at the top of the draft, the team is widely expected to select Murray.Kingsbury's a noted fan of the Heisman winner, and the connection has led to speculation that the Cardinals will trade Josh Rosen to open the door for Murray. It was reported Friday, however, that Arizona has yet to engage in trade talks concerning the 2018 first-round pick.Last week, the Cardinals hosted other two other potential top picks - Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa and Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc.
