The New York Giants are expected to pursue quarterback Mitch Trubisky when free agency opens next week, sources told ESPN's Jordan Raanan.Brian Daboll, who was named New York's head coach earlier this offseason, served as Trubisky's offensive coordinator last season with the Buffalo Bills."I don't know where I'm going to go, but I know whatever (Daboll) does there, he's going to do a great job with that offense," Trubisky said on "The Adam Schefter Podcast," per Raanan.Trubisky would be added with the expectation he'd challenge Daniel Jones for the starting quarterback role, Raanan adds.Jones, the sixth overall pick in 2019, has endured a rocky start to his NFL career. His 2021 season came to a premature end due to a neck injury. Despite Jones' woes, Daboll previously endorsed him while promising to provide the passer with stability.Trubisky flamed out with the Chicago Bears over the first four years of his career before joining the Bills, where he served as Josh Allen's backup.Other clubs expected to explore quarterback options this offseason include the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New Orleans Saints, among others.Trubisky carries a career 29-21 record as a starter with 64 touchdowns to 38 interceptions.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Impending free-agent pass-rusher Von Miller says he'll give the Los Angeles Rams first dibs before turning his attention to other potential suitors."I want to figure it out with the Rams first and foremost because they've been real good to me," Miller told Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. "On the slim chance that can't happen, then I'll explore all my options."Miller caused a stir this week after teasing a return to the Denver Broncos on social media.

The Tennessee Titans are re-signing linebacker Harold Landry to a multi-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.Financial terms weren't disclosed by the Titans, but Landry inked a five-year, $87.5-million pact, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Landry's deal reportedly contains $52.5 million guaranteed. He was set to be one of the top free agents available after the Titans opted not to use the franchise tag to keep him off the open market. The 25-year-old's average salary of $17.5 million puts him just inside the top 10 among pass-rushers, per Over The Cap.Landry set himself up for a major payday with a breakout 2021 season, racking up career highs in sacks (12), quarterback hits (22), and total tackles (75) to earn his first Pro Bowl nod.The Titans selected Landry in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft following a standout career at Boston College. He produced 19 sacks across his first three seasons in the league.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to trade quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos in a stunning blockbuster, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Broncos will send two first-round picks (No. 9 overall in the 2022 draft and a 2023 pick), two second-round selections (No. 40 overall and a 2023 selection), and a 2022 fifth-round choice, adds Schefter.Denver is also trading quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, and a fourth-round pick back to the Seahawks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Wilson has officially waived his no-trade clause and passed his physical with the Broncos, sources told Schefter.Seattle will move on from Wilson after a 10-year marriage that was overwhelmingly successful despite some tense moments. Wilson led the Seahawks to their first-ever championship in Super Bowl XLVIII, made the Pro Bowl nine times, and turned a franchise that lacked national relevance for most of its existence prior to his arrival into a perennial contender. The Seahawks pulled the trigger after months of speculation over Wilson's future in the Pacific Northwest. The 33-year-old hinted at discontent with the Seahawks last offseason, and at one point last year, his agent listed four trade destinations - Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, and New Orleans - the quarterback would accept. However, the two sides seemed to iron out their differences by the end of the 2021 campaign. Wilson stated his desire to stay in Seattle several times late in the year, and the team appeared to be on the same page."We have no intention of making any move there," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said at the NFL combine six days ago when asked about potentially trading his star passer.Wilson is coming off a down season by his standards, but he still threw for 3,113 yards and 25 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He missed three games with a finger injury, marking the first time in his career that he didn't suit up for a full campaign. He owns the third-best touchdown-to-interception ratio in NFL history at 3.36-to-1.He'll join a Broncos team that has been desperately seeking a franchise quarterback since Peyton Manning retired after Super Bowl 50. They were linked to Aaron Rodgers for over a year, but the four-time MVP confirmed he's returning to the Packers. The Broncos haven't been to the postseason since their last title and have endured five straight losing seasons, but they are loaded with offensive talent. Even without the promising Fant, their other marquee targets - Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and Jerry Jeudy - are under control through 2024.Wilson will join an AFC West division that was already stacked at quarterback: Patrick Mahomes plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, Justin Herbert leads the Los Angeles Chargers, and Derek Carr just had one of his best seasons for the Las Vegas Raiders.Seattle rejected an offer from the Washington Commanders that included a first-round pick in 2022, 2023, and 2024 before sending Wilson to Denver, according to Ben Standig of The Athletic. The Seahawks reportedly preferred to trade the quarterback out of the NFC.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Denver Broncos shocked the football world Tuesday with a blockbuster deal to acquire Russell Wilson for a massive haul of players and picks.Reportedly heading back to Seattle in exchange for Wilson and a fourth-round selection are two first-round picks, two second-round choices, a fifth-round pick, quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, and defensive lineman Shelby Harris.Let's take a look at how each side fared in the swap.BroncosCredit the Broncos for doing what they had to do. This team wasn't going anywhere unless it found a quarterback. With Aaron Rodgers staying in Green Bay, this was the move to make. The impressive foundation built on both sides of the ball made Denver a popular dark-horse contender last year, but that was a little premature. It was always fair to consider the Broncos "a quarterback away," and now they've undoubtedly checked that box.The compensation looks like a lot on the surface, but it isn't that earth-shattering when talking about a player like Wilson. Absent this deal, Denver was probably going to use the No. 9 overall pick in this year's draft on a quarterback. But with such a pedestrian class of prospects at the position, particularly compared to the last few years, any such selection likely would have been a reach.Looking ahead to next year's first-round pick, the Broncos are surely planning on it being a late one with Russ in the mix. And at that point, you can refer back to the aggressive strategy of the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. Draft picks are cool; proven superstars are better. As for the players heading to Seattle, there couldn't have been much hesitation on Denver's part. Lock has next to no value after flaming out as a former second-round pick. Fant was a 2019 first-rounder who could be considered an ascending player, but he hasn't topped 700 receiving yards in a season, and the Broncos are well-stocked with pass-catchers. Harris is a solid piece on the defensive line, but not one who'd keep you from doing a deal like this. All in all, this amounts to a no-brainer for Denver. It remains to be seen if it's enough to push them over the top in the NFL's toughest division. There's also some risk with the 33-year-old Wilson coming off one of his worst seasons. However, it's a worthwhile gamble either way, particularly for the short term. There are also benefits that come with ascending to contender status, even if that's only on paper right now. We see it every year: top veteran players become available, and it's the teams with superstar quarterbacks at the front of the line for their services. The Broncos are now that type of destination, where players will see an opportunity to get a ring.Might Von Miller have been hearing rumblings about this deal Monday when he teased a potential return to Denver? The Broncos certainly have the salary-cap flexibility to bring him back and make a few other impact moves. They may only be getting started. That should be a scary thought for the AFC elite. There's one clear winner in this deal. Unsurprisingly, it's the team getting a future Hall of Famer.Grade: A-SeahawksDepending on how much you buy into coach-speak, this deal may have come as a surprise from the Seahawks' perspective. Football media seemed to rule out the possibility that Russ would be traded when Pete Carroll said after the season that the team had "no intention" of doing so.In reality, things were always headed in this direction. The relationship between player and team clearly soured last offseason. It even reached the point of Wilson's agent bizarrely sharing a list of hypothetical trade destinations while insisting his client wished to remain in Seattle. All parties can say what they want publicly, but it's tough to come back from your franchise quarterback blatantly trying to force his way out.It made even more sense for the team to consider trade options with a difficult 2021 season demonstrating just how much work the Seahawks' roster needed, whether Wilson played or not. Factoring in Wilson's dropoff in play as he gets older makes a trade even more sensible. The question, then, is whether the Seahawks got enough. The answer, unfortunately, is a resounding no.Lock is a lottery ticket. He's got some raw skills, but nothing he did over three years in Denver suggested he's anything more than a long shot to be a solid starter. The expectation here should be a backup, with anything more being a bonus. The No. 9 pick in this draft theoretically gives Seattle an opportunity to take a quarterback. But again, it's tough to get your hopes too high with this incoming class of signal-callers.Could the Seahawks ride this season out with Lock (read: tank), use Denver's first-round pick elsewhere, and combine what is now a pair of selections next year to target a top quarterback? Sure, but that's a long way off.Knowing a split was inevitable, it's tough not to take this underwhelming return and look back to the previous offseason when Seattle reportedly turned away an aggressive offer from the Bears. That package apparently included three first-round picks (one of those presumably for last year's quarterback-stacked draft) and two players.Had they taken the Bears' proposal and moved up in the first round as Chicago did, Seattle could already be in the midst of the Justin Fields era with future picks to build around him. Unless the Seahawks are now playing the long game, which feels unlikely with a 70-year-old head coach, they seem poised to replace Wilson by taking a shot on one of several less-than-enticing draft prospects. Not exactly the way you want to move on from the best quarterback in franchise history. Seattle could be in for a long and painful rebuild.Grade: CCopyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

After a month of uncertainty, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers agreed to remain together. Rodgers was always going to be the first big domino of the NFL offseason, and it didn't take long for the next one to fall: Less than three hours later, the Denver Broncos finally found their replacement for Peyton Manning (who retired six years ago) by trading for Russell Wilson. Let's sum up what it all means.1. The reported terms of Rodgers' contract extension - maximums of four years and $200 million - would make him the highest-paid player in league history by average annual value. If getting Green Bay to do a deal like this truly was his motive all along, then Rodgers maximized his leverage. All that passive-aggressive, Hamlet-in-a-helmet posturing - from "The Last Dance" memes to the deep background reports of a trade demand or possible retirement - may have been a bunch of hooey; Rodgers is certainly mercurial and pouty enough to make it tough to know for sure. But there's no doubting he eventually bent the franchise to his will.Let ESPN's Dan Graziano describe how spooked the Packers were about Rodgers as recently as last week's combine:

Find positional rankings, additional analysis, and subscribe to push notifications in the NFL Fantasy News section. After months of speculation, the quarterback market underwent seismic changes Tuesday. With Aaron Rodgers finally agreeing to return to Green Bay for at least one more season, the Denver Broncos pushed all their chips to the middle of the table by acquiring Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks for a package of players and picks.Let's take a look at the biggest fantasy winners and losers on both teams.BroncosRussell WilsonWith one of the best sets of skill-position players in the league and a quality defense, the Broncos' main offseason goal was to find a quarterback capable of making them a contender. They did.Wilson has been one of the NFL's best passers over the last decade, as well as an elite fantasy producer. The former third-round pick finished as a top-12 fantasy QB (points per game) in eight of his 10 seasons with Seattle - falling just short during the other two campaigns (QB13 in 2021, QB16 in 2016).Though he's leaving an offense with top-notch receivers like DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, he'll be handed the keys to a Denver attack featuring several high-end talents who have yet to reach their potential due to subpar play from the quarterback position. With almost a full offseason to get acclimated and build chemistry with his new teammates, a motivated Wilson should have no problem reserving a spot as a fantasy QB1 in 2022. Verdict: WinnerJerry Jeudy and Courtland SuttonNo one benefits from this trade more than Jeudy and Sutton, who now have a chance to grow into the premier players fantasy managers envisioned them becoming.Jeudy's precision route running was never a fit with the quarterbacks Denver gave him, and his numbers suffered because of it. He's only found the end zone three times as a pro - something that's about to change in a major way with Wilson at the helm.In Seattle, Wilson developed a great rapport with quick, hard-working receivers like Doug Baldwin and more recently Lockett, maximizing their skill sets to generate big-time production.YearPlayerRecYdsTDs2015Baldwin781069142016Baldwin94112872017Baldwin7599182018Lockett57965102019Lockett82105782020Lockett1001054102021Lockett7311758Jeudy will step into that role in what should be a career year in 2022.While Sutton already has a 1,112-yard season on his resume from 2019, the last two years have been a mix of injuries and inconsistency. If he can stay healthy, the 6-foot-4, 216-pound wideout will provide a discount version of what the big-bodied Metcalf delivered while catching passes from Wilson. Metcalf topped 900 yards with at least seven touchdowns in each of the last three years - including an impressive 1,303 yards and 10 scores in 2020.Both Jeudy and Sutton should be viewed as top-24 fantasy options with a chance to flirt with WR1 stats if the Broncos' passing game hits its stride. Verdict: Big winnersJavonte WilliamsIt's hard to imagine the fantasy community could get more excited about Williams' outlook, but this trade will likely boost the hype to another level. As a rookie, Williams showed us everything we needed to see in order to project him as a top fantasy back. He posted 903 rushing yards, 316 receiving yards, 43 receptions, and seven touchdowns while splitting time with veteran Melvin Gordon, who racked up similar stats. As Gordon heads to free agency, fantasy managers are left daydreaming about the kind of stats their 21-year-old sophomore back could compile. Wilson's arrival will only improve the offense's efficiency, leading to more positive game scripts and scoring opportunities. However, Broncos general manager George Paton did recently say that he's had positive discussions with Gordon and would like to have him back in the fold. We'll see if that materializes over the coming weeks, but regardless, the arrow is pointing up in a major way for Williams. Verdict: WinnerAlbert OkwuegbunamWith Noah Fant heading to Seattle as part of the package to land Wilson, Okwuegbunam becomes the starting tight end in an ascendant Broncos offense.Though his playing time has been limited behind Fant, the 23-year-old has flashed several times over his first two NFL campaigns. He saw a significant uptick in targets last season, catching 33 of the 40 passes thrown his way for 330 yards and two touchdowns. That might not seem like much, but it's eyebrow-raising from the second tight end in a struggling passing attack.Expect Okwuegbunam to be a hot name in fantasy breakout articles before the season, but for now, he belongs in the group of high-end TE2s with TE1 ceilings. Verdict: Big winnerTim Patrick and K.J. HamlerIt's unlikely Patrick or Hamler will become weekly fantasy options unless an injury opens up a path to playing time, but they should be on your radar as bench stashes or late-round best-ball picks.Patrick proved he was capable of producing as a WR3 when either Sutton or Jeudy was sidelined over the last two years, and he'll be even more valuable if that happens with Wilson under center.Hamler is a better real-life field-stretching weapon and depth piece for the Broncos than a fantasy asset. Still, he's poised to make more plays with a true franchise quarterback on the field. Verdict: WinnersSeahawksDK Metcalf and Tyler LockettMost of the time, there's something positive to say about players on both sides of a trade. Sadly, there isn't much of a silver lining to this deal for the Seahawks, and that'll have a big impact on Metcalf's and Lockett's fantasy values.Wilson is one of only a dozen or so set-it-and-forget-it quarterbacks, and Seattle's future without him could be bleak. There's no in-house option ready to take over and Drew Lock is not the answer. Even last season's backup Geno Smith is about to become a free agent.Looking outside the organization, the trade market is dwindling and the free-agent crop is led by flawed passers like Jameis Winston and Mitch Trubisky. Meanwhile, the rookie class is weaker than in recent years - even the best prospects likely need some time to develop.Metcalf is a physically imposing outside receiver who can use his size and speed to win matchups. As we saw during Wilson's four-game absence last year, the 24-year-old was able to continue producing with stat lines of 5-98-2, 6-58-0, 2-96-1, and 6-43-2.Unfortunately for Lockett, his game is more fine-tuned, so the Seahawks' decision at quarterback will have an even bigger effect on his fantasy outlook. Unless they pull off a surprising - and unexpected - move to land a star, it's likely Lockett will face a big challenge to keep his stats up in 2022.Until we know the identity of Seattle's next QB, you should approach Metcalf as a mid- to low-end WR2 and Lockett as a WR3. Verdict: Big losersNoah FantUnlike his former Broncos teammates, Fant won't get to enjoy the upgrade that Wilson provides the Denver offense. Instead, he's been shipped to Seattle, where he'll probably be forced to play with another average or below-average passer. It's a tough break for a former first-round pick who was making his way into the low-end TE1 fantasy ranks the last two years - finishing as the TE12 and TE14.Until Seattle can find an answer at QB, Fant will be more of a mid- to low-end TE2. Verdict: LoserChris Carson (and/or Rashaad Penny)Carson's fantasy outlook features some red flags beyond just Wilson's departure. The neck injury that cost Carson the majority of the 2022 campaign could turn out to be career-ending.It's also possible the Seahawks will spend to bring back Rashaad Penny, who surprisingly powered their offense down the stretch. We'll continue to monitor Carson's rehab and Penny's free agency, but regardless of who gets the start at running back in Week 1, they're guaranteed to face more stacked boxes from defenses that no longer have to fear Wilson beating them over the top. Verdict: LosersDrew LockIt was clear that Lock was never going to be the long-term answer for the Broncos, so at least a new team gives him a fresh start.Even so, nothing we've seen from the 25-year-old passer makes us think he's going to turn things around and develop into a starting-caliber NFL quarterback. If the Seahawks can't find a suitable starter this offseason, there's a chance they'll decide to roll the dice with Lock - which would be terrible news for all the skill-position players in Seattle and would likely lead to a full-blown tank in 2022. Verdict: Slight winnerCopyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Aaron Rodgers is sticking with the Green Bay Packers. The star quarterback agreed to a four-year, $200-million deal with the Packers that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Rodgers confirmed later Tuesday via Twitter that he is returning to the Packers, although he wrote: "Reports about me signing a contract are inaccurate, as are the supposed terms of the contract I 'signed.'"The pact includes $153 million in guaranteed money and will reduce Rodgers' cap hit for 2022, sources told Rapoport. The veteran's previous contract included a $46.7-million cap charge, per Spotrac - the second highest in the NFL.The veteran passer reportedly considered retirement and a move to the Denver Broncos, according to Rapoport, where he would have reunited with former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans also reportedly had interest in Rodgers if he decided to leave Green Bay.The quarterback left his future up in the air following a shocking playoff defeat to the San Francisco 49ers but promised to make his decision in a timely manner.Rodgers was named MVP for a second consecutive season after leading the Packers to a 13-win campaign in 2021. He remained away from the organization last offseason due to frustration with the front office before returning for training camp. The 38-year-old signal-caller has thrown for 85 touchdowns to nine interceptions since 2020. Despite Rodgers' production, the Packers have been unable to break their Super Bowl drought.Green Bay reportedly also prevented Rodgers' favorite weapon, wideout Davante Adams, from hitting the open market by using the franchise tag.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Los Angeles Chargers agreed to a multi-year extension with wideout Mike Williams before Tuesday's franchise-tag deadline, the team announced. The deal is reportedly for three years and worth $60 million, including $40 million guaranteed and $28 million in the first year, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. His $20 million average annual contract value would position him just outside the NFL's top three receivers, per Spotrac. The Chargers were reportedly determined to secure the wideout's services long term and were prepared to franchise tag him if they couldn't reach an agreement before Tuesday's deadline.A former top-10 pick in 2017, Williams' 1,146 receiving yards last season not only led the team but were also a career high. His deep-threat ability has been a key fixture for a Chargers offense led by Justin Herbert, who connected with him for nine touchdowns in 2021.Williams has formed a lethal receiving duo with teammate Keenan Allen in recent years. The Cleveland Browns placed the franchise tag on tight end David Njoku, the team announced Monday.Njoku becomes the first player to officially receive the tag ahead of Tuesday's deadline. He's projected to receive just under $11 million on the tag, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The Browns and Njoku's agent have been involved in contract talks and are hopeful the tag will lead to an extension, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Cleveland invested heavily in the tight end position over the last few seasons. The club signed Austin Hooper to a four-year, $42-million deal during the 2020 offseason. The Browns plan to keep Hooper - who is due to account for a $13.25-million cap hit this year, per Spotrac - despite working to retain Njoku, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports.Njoku put up 475 receiving yards last season, his most since 2018, while his 13.2 yards per catch were a career high. The Cincinnati Bengals placed the franchise tag on safety Jessie Bates, the team announced Monday.Cincinnati had until Tuesday's deadline to tag the 25-year-old and now has until July 15 to work out a long-term deal. The one-year tender will pay Bates roughly $12.9 million next season if they are unable to agree on a longer contract, according to a league release obtained by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Bates has played an integral role in the Bengals' secondary since they selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native has missed just two games through his four-year tenure in Cincinnati and has racked up 10 career interceptions. Bates recorded 20 tackles and two picks during the Bengals' run to Super Bowl LVI.The Bengals opted to extend Sam Hubbard instead of Bates last preseason, which was initially frustrating for Bates."I feel like I'm at a better headspace now than I was at the beginning of the season," he said in November, according to ESPN's Ben Baby. "(I was) so caught (up) on proving the wrong people right, and the main thing I should be focusing on is proving the right people right."On the prospect of landing a big contract, Bates added: "You're not just going to get exactly what you want, whenever you want it. It's just something that's going to happen. I know it will. I've put the work in. I've done my part."Bengals head coach Zac Taylor acknowledged Bates' impact in February."Jessie's approach has been tremendous all year. ... I think everyone knows we want Jessie to be a part of this, and we'll just continue to work through those discussions," Taylor said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Kelsey Conway. In four seasons with Cincinnati, Bates has recorded 408 tackles and 35 pass deflections.Meanwhile, tight end C.J. Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the entire 2022 season and possibly longer for betting on NFL games, the league announced Monday. The NFL said Ridley gambled during a five-day period in late November 2021 while he was on the non-football illness list and away from the Falcons. The league said it found no evidence to suggest that Ridley had any inside information or that any games were compromised."There is nothing more fundamental to the NFL's success - and to the reputation of everyone associated with our league - than upholding the integrity of the game," commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter to Ridley. "This is the responsibility of every player, coach, owner, game official, and anyone else employed in the league. Your actions put the integrity of the game at risk, threatened to damage public confidence in professional football, and potentially undermined the reputations of your fellow players throughout the NFL."For decades, gambling on NFL games has been considered among the most significant violations of league policy warranting the most substantial sanction. In your case, I acknowledge and commend you for your promptly reporting for an interview and for admitting your actions."Ridley stepped away from the Falcons in late October, saying he needed to address his mental health. He never returned, and trade rumors began percolating near the end of the season. While teams had inquired about his availability in recent weeks, Atlanta declined to enter into talks out of good faith because it had been informed of his situation, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The NFL determined that Ridley placed parlay bets involving three, five, and eight games and bet on the Falcons to win, a source told Schefter. He placed his wagers through a legal gambling app in Florida with his mobile device, and the app notified the NFL's compliance company about his activity, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer."We were first made aware of the league's investigation on Feb. 9," the Falcons said in a statement. "We have cooperated fully with the investigation since receiving notice and support the league's findings and actions. We are moving forward in the 2022 season with the decision that was made. … Any further questions on the investigation should be directed to the league office."Ridley posted 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020, emerging as the Falcons' top wideout while Julio Jones missed games due to injury. The 27-year-old had 31 receptions for 281 yards and two touchdowns across five appearances in 2021 before taking his leave of absence.Ridley denied having a gambling problem after the NFL announced his suspension and indicated he'll resume his playing career in the future.

The NFL Scouting Combine provides a key opportunity for prospects to bolster their draft stock, and there were a number of notable players who did just that this past weekend. Before we get to free agency, which will shake things up next week, here's another look at first-round projections for the 2022 NFL Draft with the combine in the books.1. Jacksonville Jaguars - Evan Neal, OT, AlabamaNeal didn't participate in combine drills, perhaps because he doesn't really have anything left to prove. He's got a rock-solid case to be the No. 1 pick, and the Jaguars need a blue-chip player up front.2. Detroit Lions - Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan G Fiume / Getty Images Sport / GettyNothing changes here. No quarterbacks are worthy of this pick, so the Lions turn to the most valuable spot on the defensive side of the ball. That Hutchinson is an in-state star is just a bonus.3. Houston Texans - Travon Walker, EDGE, GeorgiaSurprise! Walker was already going to go much higher than people were expecting, and an incredible combine performance has only pushed his stock to greater heights. The Texans get a difference-maker in the Georgia standout, who may even be challenging Hutchinson for the No. 2 spot by the time we get to draft day.4. New York Jets - Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, OregonThe Jets would have to be thrilled to land Thibodeaux, who's on the board longer than expected due to the quality of pass-rushers in this draft. Adding the Oregon product to an already talented front gives Robert Saleh the pass-rush foundation he needs defensively.5. New York Giants - Ikem Ekwonu, OT, NC StateIf the Giants' offense is going to succeed, regardless of who's at quarterback, the offensive line needs a makeover. Ekwonu, who may quietly be making a case to go No. 1 overall, provides a major upgrade to that group.6. Carolina Panthers - Malik Willis, QB, Liberty Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThis quarterback class isn't spectacular by any means - it wouldn't be a surprise to see a passer not selected until later in the first - but the Panthers can't keep messing around. You won't find yourself a franchise quarterback unless you take a shot, and Willis' tools make him as good a bet as any to become a franchise-caliber player.7. Giants (via CHI) - Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSUComing away from the first round with a top offensive tackle and the draft's most talented cornerback would have to be considered a home run for the Giants. Stingley's stock may not seem as hot as it was coming off his unbelievable freshman season, but don't let recency bias fool you - he's got shutdown potential at the next level.8. Atlanta Falcons - Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre DameThe Falcons take advantage of the fact that top safeties tend to fall further than they should. Hamilton is considered by many to be one of the draft's best players. The Notre Dame standout joins A.J. Terrell as another young star on Atlanta's back end.9. Denver Broncos - Kenny Pickett, QB, PittThis pick assumes the Broncos don't land Aaron Rodgers or any other elite veteran quarterback this offseason. Much like the Panthers, the potential payoff outweighs the risk of reaching in this spot. Pickett gives new coach Nathaniel Hackett an intriguing passer to build his offense around.10. Jets (via SEA) - Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cincinnati Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyLanding premium defensive talents up front and in the secondary would be a heck of a haul for the Jets with their pair of top-10 picks. Gardner immediately steps in as New York's No. 1 cover man, giving the defense its most talented cornerback since Darrelle Revis.11. Washington Commanders - Sam Howell, QB, North CarolinaIf the Commanders can't pry a veteran quarterback away from one of the countless teams they've called, they may be forced to address that spot here. Reaching isn't ideal, but Washington can't go into another season with that position weighing down an otherwise talented roster. Howell could change that dynamic.12. Minnesota Vikings - George Karlaftis, EDGE, PurdueWith the top two corners off the board, the Vikings turn to another of their most glaring defensive needs. Karlaftis, whose athleticism was on full display at the combine, would be an important addition with Danielle Hunter's future in Minnesota unclear.13. Cleveland Browns - Jordan Davis, DT, GeorgiaDavis stole the show in Indianapolis, posting a ridiculous 4.78-second 40 time at 341 pounds. Human beings who are that big aren't supposed to move like that. Say what you will about drafting a run-stuffer this early, but the Browns need that kind of presence in the middle. And if his freak athleticism hints at even a little bit of untapped pass-rush potential, watch out.14. Baltimore Ravens - Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPenning quietly helped himself as much as any other player at the combine, showcasing an elite athletic profile to complement his physical play style. He just may be the ideal pick to bolster the offensive line in Baltimore.15. Philadelphia Eagles (via MIA) - David Ojabo, EDGE, MichiganWith Derek Barnett headed for free agency and Brandon Graham turning 34 in April, it's fair to assume the Eagles will dip into this talented edge rush class with one of their three first-round picks. The athleticism that gives Ojabo such a high ceiling was on full display at the combine.16. Eagles (via IND) - Nakobe Dean, LB, GeorgiaDean didn't participate in combine drills, but there probably wasn't a whole lot for him to gain anyway. Likely one of the safer picks in this draft, the Georgia star addresses an obvious need and gives the Eagles a leader in the middle of the defense for years to come.17. Los Angeles Chargers - Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi StateFirst-round tackles two years in a row? Not a bad idea when priority No. 1 is protecting your future MVP-candidate quarterback. In this scenario, the Chargers use their significant cap space to upgrade the defensive side of the ball in free agency, ideally at corner and defensive tackle, before landing Cross to line up across from stud left tackle Rashawn Slater.18. New Orleans Saints - Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThe Saints could go quarterback here, but let's go ahead and wager a guess they'll land a veteran passer this offseason, be it Jameis Winston or someone else. The perfect follow-up to such a move would be making a much-needed addition to the receiver room, and Wilson is ready to contribute right away.19. Eagles - Lewis Cine, S, GeorgiaCine's outstanding display at the combine, highlighted by a 4.37-second 40, confirmed he has the athleticism to match everything he'd already put on tape for NFL teams. He should now be firmly in the first-round conversation if he wasn't already, and the Eagles are one of many teams who could use a presence like him on the back end.20. Pittsburgh Steelers - Tyler Linderbaum, C, IowaThe board couldn't have fallen much better for the Steelers in this situation. Upgrading the interior offensive line is crucial for Pittsburgh this offseason, and Linderbaum is a pro-ready center who could anchor that group for the next decade.21. New England Patriots - Treylon Burks, WR, ArkansasAs the Patriots look to further the development of Mac Jones - a quarterback who'll do his best work in the short-intermediate levels of the field - Burks is an ideal player to bolster the receiver group. The Arkansas product is the rare big-bodied target who can make things happen after the catch.22. Las Vegas Raiders - Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia Steve Limentani/ISI Photos / Getty Images Sport / GettyWyatt becomes the fifth(!) Georgia defender off the board in the first round as the Raiders take care of a pressing need up front. With Maxx Crosby and Yannick Ngakoue locking down the edge, Wyatt is the kind of disruptive interior presence who can take Las Vegas' pass rush to another level.23. Arizona Cardinals - Jermaine Johnson III, EDGE, Florida StateWith Chandler Jones seemingly poised to sign somewhere else in free agency, Arizona has a significant void to fill on the edge. Johnson steps in as an impact three-down replacement from Day 1.24. Dallas Cowboys - Daxton Hill, S, MichiganFinding a playmaking safety will be the key to the Cowboys' defense taking another step forward next season. Hill would presumably take a deep coverage role in Dan Quinn's system, but he also has the versatility to rotate down and play in the slot. There isn't much he can't do.25. Buffalo Bills - Trent McDuffie, CB, WashingtonMcDuffie should've been long gone by this point, but a bit of a slide seems possible considering his lack of length. A contending team would be thrilled to see such a talented cover man on the board this late, though. In this case, it's the Bills scooping up a long-term running mate for Tre'Davious White.26. Tennessee Titans - Kenyon Green, OL, Texas A&M Ron Jenkins / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Titans' offensive line must improve and get younger if the running game is to remain the foundation of their offense. Plugging Green in as a starter at guard is a positive step in that regard.27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Zion Johnson, OL, Boston CollegeNot only do the Bucs head into the offseason looking for a new quarterback, but with Ali Marpet retiring and Ryan Jensen and Alex Cappa heading for free agency, they may also be forced to overhaul the interior offensive line. Johnson could spearhead a new-look group up front.28. Green Bay Packers - Chris Olave, WR, Ohio StateAdding another receiver should be a priority regardless of whether Aaron Rodgers is back, but especially so if the Packers are looking to make another run with their legendary quarterback. Olave's ability to stretch the field would be a fantastic complement to Davante Adams.29. Miami Dolphins (via SF) - Devin Lloyd, LB, UtahLloyd's combine performance was somewhat underwhelming. Combine that with his position's perceived value, and we've got him falling further than most. But that just means the Dolphins come away with a potential steal in a three-down linebacker who can be a difference-maker in coverage.30. Kansas City Chiefs - Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThis seems like a logical range for Williams, considering he's recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in the national championship game. However, it's safe to assume the rest of the NFL would quickly regret letting him fall to the Chiefs. Kansas City can afford to be patient, knowing that when Williams gets healthy, his explosiveness and downfield playmaking ability would be perfect for this offense.31. Cincinnati Bengals - Andrew Booth Jr., CB, ClemsonOffensive line will be a popular projection here, but with so much cap space at their disposal, the Bengals should be adding multiple free agents to that group. Provided they can do so, landing an athletic cover man like Booth would be a nice way of rounding out the cornerback spot along with Chidobe Awuzie and Mike Hilton.32. Lions (via LAR) - Desmond Ridder, QB, CincinnatiThe buzz around Ridder seems to have picked up steam at the combine after he showed off his athleticism with a position-best 40 time of 4.52. Detroit would probably plan to have him sit behind Jared Goff for a year or so, but this is a worthy swing on a talented passer with plenty of upside.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Carolina Panthers have received multiple trade inquiries for All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, sources told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. While McCaffrey isn't on the trade block, the Panthers would be searching for a first-round pick and an additional piece of compensation in exchange for the running back, Jones adds.Arguably one of the league's most dynamic options out of the backfield, McCaffrey has struggled to remain on the field over the past two seasons. He's suited up for only 10 games since 2020, accumulating 667 rushing yards and 492 receiving yards. The Panthers made McCaffrey the NFL's highest-paid running back with a four-year, $64-million contract during the 2020 offseason after he put up a league-high 2,392 scrimmage yards in 2019.The 25-year-old carries a $14.3-million cap hit and a $26.6-million dead money charge for 2022, per Spotrac.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu is set to test the open market, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. There is still a chance Mathieu returns to the Chiefs, but the team also has other priorities to attend to, Rapoport adds. The star safety is expected to be a coveted player once he officially becomes a free agent later this month, Rapoport notes.Kansas City has approximately $11.5 million in cap space this offseason, according to Spotrac. The Chiefs are also reportedly working on a contract extension with three-time All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill that will likely make him one of the league's highest-paid wideouts.Mathieu has started 47 games over the past three campaigns in Kansas City, recording 13 interceptions, including a career-high six in 2020.The 29-year-old made the Pro Bowl last season after grabbing three picks and one defensive touchdown.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Las Vegas Raiders and pass-rusher Maxx Crosby have begun working on a new deal, sources told The Athletic's Vic Tafur.Contract talks are going well, and a deal is expected to make Crosby one of the league's highest-paid defenders, Tafur reports.Crosby, 24, has provided a consistent pass-rush presence for the Raiders. He earned his first Pro Bowl invite in 2021 after notching eight sacks and 30 quarterback hits across 17 games. The 2019 fourth-round selection is due to make just over $3.9 million in 2022, the final year of his rookie contract, per Spotrac. An extension for quarterback Derek Carr is also a priority for the Raiders, though it's likely Crosby's deal gets done first, Tafur adds.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Arizona Cardinals are not expected to use the franchise tag on linebacker Chandler Jones ahead of Tuesday's deadline, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.Jones is expected to become a free agent later this month. The 32-year-old requested a trade from the Cardinals prior to the 2021 regular season due to being unhappy with his contract. He had a base salary of $15.5 million last campaign, having signed a five-year, $82.5-million contract extension in 2017.Arizona would like to bring Jones back for a seventh season but will need to create space under the salary cap.The Cardinals have just over $2,000 in cap space, according to Over the Cap. Despite cap constraints, the NFC West franchise recently signed general manager Steve Keim and head coach Kliff Kingsbury to contract extensions.Jones returned to the field last season having played in just five contests in 2020 after sustaining a torn biceps. Cincinnati Bengals safety Jessie Bates will likely receive the franchise tag as negotiations for a long-term contract extension continue, USA Today's Tyler Dragon reports. The cost of the one-year tender for a safety is projected to be $13.54 million, according to Over The Cap.Bates and the Bengals attempted to come to terms on an extension last offseason but were unsuccessful, setting the defensive back to play out the final year of his rookie contract. The 25-year-old publicly expressed his frustrations with the lack of a new deal and said in November that it hampered his ability to prepare for the campaign. After racking up 320 tackles and nine interceptions across his first three years in the NFL, Bates produced an inconsistent regular season before bouncing back with key performances during Cincinnati's run to the Super Bowl."Jessie's approach has been tremendous all year. Really been proud of him," Taylor said in February, according to NFL.com's Nick Shook. "He's a big part of what we do. We're really proud of how he's led this team and how he played for us, really, over the last four years."Those are conversations that will always be ongoing. I think everyone knows we want Jessie to be a part of this. The New England Patriots are apparently looking to give Mac Jones more weapons in Year 2.The Patriots inquired about a trade for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson, sources told Joe Person and Jeff Howe of The Athletic. The conversation was reportedly "exploratory," and a deal isn't imminent.Carolina is open to moving Anderson after his receiving yards total dropped by more than half in 2021 following a 1,000-yard campaign the year prior, adds Person. The Panthers rewarded Anderson with a two-year, $29.5-million extension after his strong first season with the team.New England attempted to bolster its receiving group last offseason with free agents Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. While Bourne racked up 800 yards and five touchdowns, Agholor failed to provide the downfield production the Patriots likely envisioned when they signed him. Agholor averaged just 12.8 yards per catch and finished with 473 yards in 15 appearances.Meanwhile, Anderson was a consistent deep threat during his first four seasons in the league with the New York Jets.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is torn on where he wants to play in 2022, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The reigning MVP views the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tennessee Titans as options if he leaves the Packers, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. Rodgers apparently has deals lined up with a few AFC teams. Those teams already have trade agreements in place with the Packers.Rodgers hasn't yet committed to playing next season but is reportedly going back and forth on what he wants to do. A return to Green Bay looked to be his most likely outcome after he seemingly made amends with management throughout the 2021 season.Plenty of teams - including the Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, and San Francisco 49ers - have been linked to Rodgers since he aired his grievances with the franchise one year ago. The Broncos, Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Washington Commanders are among the teams in the quarterback market this offseason.Rodgers is coming off back-to-back MVP seasons with the Packers. Green Bay has reportedly been negotiating a short-term contract with his representatives that would make the 38-year-old the highest-paid player in the NFL if he returns. The Packers won 13 games in each of the last three seasons but failed to make the Super Bowl in any of them. The Washington Commanders offered the Seattle Seahawks multiple first-round picks in an unsuccessful attempt to acquire quarterback Russell Wilson, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Washington reportedly entered the offseason preparing to swing big on established quarterbacks. It scoured the market last year but only brought in Ryan Fitzpatrick and re-signed Taylor Heinicke in a pair of smaller moves.Wilson has been the subject of trade speculation for more than a year. He appeared to be at odds with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll last offseason, but the two are now seemingly back on the same page. The 33-year-old quarterback, who's spent his entire career in Seattle, has repeatedly said in recent months that he wants to continue his career in the Pacific Northwest. Carroll and the Seahawks have issued the same stance."We have no intention of making any move there," Carroll said at the NFL Scouting Combine when asked about a possible Wilson trade Wednesday. While Wilson didn't have his best season in 2021, he still outperformed Washington's quarterbacks. He finished with 3,113 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions through the air while missing three games with a finger injury.Seattle and Washington both went 7-10 last season and missed the playoffs.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Dallas Cowboys are likely to cut wide receiver Amari Cooper by the start of the new league year, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Dallas will, however, attempt to trade the wideout before releasing him, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Cooper is due $20 million in fully guaranteed money four days after the 2022 offseason officially begins on March 16, adds Schefter. His release would save the Cowboys $16 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. Dallas is currently projected to be roughly $21 million over the cap, the third-worst mark in the NFL.Cooper signed a five-year, $100-million contract in March 2020, making him the league's second-highest-paid receiver at the time. But the 27-year-old has struggled to establish himself among the elite at his position and live up to his big-money extension. While Cooper posted three straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2018-20, he failed to exceed 1,200 yards or double-digit touchdowns in any of those years. Cooper's 1,000-yard streak was snapped in 2021 as CeeDee Lamb took over the No. 1 role.Dallas also apparently favors Michael Gallup over Cooper. Part of the motivation behind the veteran's release is it would help the team re-sign the free-agent Gallup, sources told Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson.Gallup suffered a torn ACL in January. He racked up 445 yards and two scores in nine appearances in 2021. The Cowboys are close to signing him to a new deal, according to Schefter. The NFC East club has two other prominent members of its offense set to hit the open market: tight end Dalton Schultz and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson. Meanwhile, Lamb will be eligible for an extension after the 2022 campaign.Despite his down year in 2021, Cooper will become one of the top options in a loaded free-agent wide-receiver class that includes Davante Adams, Chris Godwin, Mike Williams, and Allen Robinson.Dallas acquired Cooper from the Las Vegas Raiders for a first-round pick in October 2018.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Cleveland Browns are planning to revitalize their wide receiver group via free agency and the draft ahead of a make-or-break year for quarterback Baker Mayfield, according to The Athletic's Jeff Howe and Zac Jackson. The Browns are reportedly interested in Chris Godwin, Mike Williams, and Allen Robinson, among others. The Kansas City Chiefs and wide receiver Tyreek Hill have been involved in negotiations for a long-term contract extension over the past week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Hill's next deal should be more conventional than his current contract, Rapoport adds. The Los Angeles Rams and Odell Beckham Jr. are looking to run it back together. There's mutual interest between the reigning Super Bowl champions and the free-agent wide receiver to get a deal done for the 2022 season, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Beckham suffered a torn ACL in the Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals and will likely be sidelined until November, according to Rapoport. The Rams previously expressed a desire to retain their entire championship core moving forward, including Beckham and free agent Von Miller.Head coach Sean McVay reiterated Thursday his desire to keep Beckham, who joined the team midseason following his release from the Cleveland Browns."I really love him, I cherish our relationship that we were able to establish and develop, and I'm hopeful that there will be many more years working together," McVay said on Sirius XM's Mad Dog Sports Radio.Beckham looked rejuvenated in L.A., racking up 305 yards and five touchdowns in the regular season before producing 288 yards and two scores during the postseason run to a title. He would've likely earned a long-term contract based on his return to form, but it appears a short-term deal is in the cards following his injury and amid a competitive free-agent wide receiver market.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New England Patriots are not expected to use the franchise tag on cornerback J.C. Jackson, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Without a franchise tag in place, Jackson would test the free-agent market, Rapoport adds.Jackson said last month he was hoping to land a long-term contract but would be open to playing on the franchise tag. However, he revealed that the Patriots haven't reached out to him in regards to a contract since the end of the 2021 season."I guess I can't be that important to them," Jackson said in February. "I know I am, but they're not showing me."The 26-year-old has developed into one of the league's best ballhawks since joining the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He's notched at least three interceptions in each of his four seasons, with a league-high 17 since 2020.Jackson earned his first Pro Bowl invitation in 2021 after recording eight picks and 23 passes defended.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Cleveland Browns intend to bring back Baker Mayfield in 2022, and they reiterated their plan to the quarterback's representatives Thursday at the NFL combine, Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reports. The two sides reportedly also agreed to have Mayfield enter the final year of his rookie contract without an extension.Mayfield is coming off a down season in which he threw for a career-low 3,010 yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He labored through a shoulder injury for most of 2021-22 and underwent surgery at the end of the campaign. While trade speculation has hovered over high-profile signal-callers like Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and Deshaun Watson, Cleveland doesn't anticipate landing anyone from that group. The Browns also don't view Jimmy Garoppolo - the veteran quarterback who's most likely to switch teams - as a clear upgrade over Mayfield. Additionally, Jameis Winston and Teddy Bridgewater headline a lackluster crop of free agents at the position.Mayfield enjoyed his best season in 2020 when he threw for 3,563 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions and led Cleveland to its first playoff berth since 2002. The 26-year-old has thrown 92 touchdowns and 56 interceptions while owning an 87.8 passer rating over his four-year career. The Browns drafted Mayfield first overall in 2018, hoping he'd develop into their long-awaited franchise quarterback.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL and the players' association agreed to suspend "all aspects of the joint COVID-19 protocols, effective immediately," the league announced Thursday in a memo obtained by ESPN's Adam Schefter. The decision was "based on current encouraging trends regarding the prevalence and severity of COVID," as well as "evolving guidance from the CDC."Mandatory testing will now cease unless "clinically indicated or at the direction of a club physician. Masks, monitoring devices, and social distancing will no longer be enforced at team facilities, though clubs must still comply with state or local laws. The NFL worked under the COVID-19 protocols for the last two campaigns. No games were canceled over that time, though outbreaks forced many games to be rescheduled in 2020. Restrictions were loosened during last season's playoffs.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Kenny Pickett's hand measurement was a prominent question surrounding the potential first-round pick entering the NFL scouting combine, and it wasn't good news for the quarterback Thursday. The signal-caller's hands measured 8.5 inches, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Nine inches is widely considered the threshold for a quarterback's hand size. No current NFL quarterback has hands below the 9-inch benchmark.Joe Burrow, Ryan Tannehill, and Jared Goff are the only passers with 9-inch hands to be drafted in the first round since 2003, according to MLive's Kyle Meinke.Pickett - who opted against having his hand measured at the Senior Bowl to spend extra time doing stretching exercises - downplayed the issue during Wednesday's press session."Whatever it measures, it measures," Pickett said, per NFL.com's Nick Shook. "I'm sure that won't be the end of it, but that'll be the last measurement I'm sure I'll take of it."Pickett is in a battle with Ole Miss' Matt Corral, Liberty's Malik Willis, and North Carolina's Sam Howell to be the first quarterback selected in April's draft. The Carolina Panthers took Pickett No. 6 overall in theScore's post-Super Bowl mock draft, and he was the first QB off the board. The former Pittsburgh standout had a breakout season as a senior in 2021, completing 67.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards and 42 touchdowns against seven interceptions. However, he continued to struggle to hold onto the football. He had six fumbles in 2021 to take his five-year total to 38, per PFF.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

New Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is apparently a big believer in Tua Tagovailoa."I'm really excited moving forward because (Tua) has some skills that I think are untapped," McDaniel said Thursday on "Good Morning Football."He added: "I think it's important that you empower the quarterback with the rest of the players around him and the scheme that you bring forth. So, I think his best days are in front of him, and that's a really cool piece of the process to be part of as a coach."The Dolphins were reportedly looking for a head coach who could maximize Tagovailoa's talents following the firing of Brian Flores. A reported deteriorating relationship between the quarterback and Flores played a part in the latter's dismissal.McDaniel explained that the organization's confidence in Tagovailoa should pay dividends moving forward."You could tell that it's empowering to (Tua) that there's people that believe in him," he said.Tagovailoa has posted a 13-8 record as a starter over his first two seasons but has struggled with consistency and injuries. He threw for 16 touchdowns to 10 interceptions in 2021 while averaging just 6.8 yards per attempt.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier ruled out a potential Deshaun Watson pursuit Wednesday after months of lingering trade speculation."The door is shut on Deshaun," Grier told reporters at the NFL combine, according to David Furones of the Miami Sun-Sentinel.Miami had been linked to Watson for over a year. The star quarterback, who asked the Houston Texans to trade him, was rumored to have the Dolphins atop his list of preferred landing spots.Watson didn't play in 2021 and is still facing lawsuits from 22 women who say he committed sexual assault or sexual misconduct during massage sessions. Eight of the 22 women filed criminal complaints, and two other women who aren't suing him also filed criminal complaints. The Dolphins reportedly weighed a Watson acquisition at the 2021 trade deadline but owner Stephen Ross wouldn't sign off on a deal in light of his unsettled legal situation. Ross said at the end of the season the Dolphins' direction at quarterback would be "up to the head coach."Tua Tagovailoa threw for 2,653 yards with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over 13 games in his first season as a full-time starter. Miami drafted Tagovailoa fifth overall in 2020.Grier offered a lukewarm endorsement of Tagovailoa when asked if the Alabama product can still be an elite quarterback."I can't say he can't be," he said, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Kyler Murray submitted a contract proposal to the Arizona Cardinals in hopes of landing a long-term deal, his agent, Erik Burkhardt, announced in a statement Monday.Burkhardt added his client "absolutely" wants to remain in Arizona with the goal of delivering a Super Bowl title to the franchise."Kyler believes that in order to consistently compete for championships, and ultimately deliver (the Cardinals) their first Super Bowl in 33-plus years, there needs to be long-term stability for both the organization and himself," Burkhardt said. The contract proposal requires "a real commitment from the organization" as it includes financial security and would match the current quarterback market, Burkhardt said. It would also lower Murray's cap hit for 2022 to allow the Cardinals to field a competitive team by re-signing players and adding free agents."Actions speak much louder than words in this volatile business," Burkhardt said.He added, "It is now simply up to the Cardinals to decide if they prioritize their rapidly improving, 24-year-old, already (two-time) Pro Bowl QB, who led the organization from three wins before his arrival to 11 wins and their first playoff appearance in five years. Or rather, if they choose to financially prioritize committing to other areas and continuing to merely talk about addressing Kyler's long-term future as their QB."The Cardinals previously said they were excited to move forward with Murray after reports of friction emerged earlier in the offseason. The club was reportedly looking for more leadership out of the quarterback, while Murray was rumored to be frustrated with Arizona's playoff exit. He later called those reports "nonsense."Murray is headed into the final season of his rookie contract, though the Cardinals can exercise his fifth-year option. He is due to collect $965,000 in base salary and a $4.5-million roster bonus in 2022, according to Spotrac. His cap hit will be just short of $11.4 million.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The future Hall of Fame tight end retired in 2019 but sat out only one season before returning with the Buccaneers.Gronkowski tormented Buffalo while starring on the New England Patriots from 2010-18. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that the team has "no intention" of trading Russell Wilson, according to Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune.Carroll added that teams have inquired about the quarterback."At this time of year, there are conversations about everybody. We have no intention of making any move there," Carroll told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine, per Bell.A previous report said Wilson was interested in exploring trade options this offseason. However, he denied interest in playing elsewhere during an appearance on the "Today Show" earlier this week."Seattle's the place where I'm at right now, and I love it, and it's great," Wilson said Tuesday. The 33-year-old was also adamant during the 2021 campaign of his desire to win more Super Bowls with the Seahawks.Wilson is under contract for two more years and has a no-trade clause at his disposal. He's coming off his first losing season as a starter, going 6-8 with 25 touchdowns to six interceptions.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst insisted his inbox hasn't swelled with trade inquiries about Aaron Rodgers, contrary to a previous report."Not at all," he told reporters at the NFL combine Tuesday, according to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated. "Not a single person."ESPN reported Feb. 24 that multiple teams already had trade offers on the table for Rodgers, who's yet to decide between playing in 2022 or retiring. The Packers are reportedly preparing a short-term contract that would make the four-time MVP the highest-paid player in the NFL.Gutekunst said he still believes Rodgers will make his decision in time for Green Bay to prepare accordingly; free agency begins March 16, and teams may begin contacting players on expiring contracts two days earlier."I would hope so, yeah," Gutekunst said. "That's, obviously, the start of the new league year. There's a lot of decisions that have to be made before that. So that would be helpful. I would think we would know something before then."Rodgers has thrown 85 touchdowns with only nine interceptions over the last two years and picked up MVP awards at the end of both campaigns.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Matt Corral won't get the chance to boost his draft stock at the NFL scouting combine after suffering an ankle injury in the Sugar Bowl in January, but the Ole Miss quarterback has "no regrets" about playing in his final collegiate game.Corral revealed Wednesday that multiple teams quizzed him about his decision not to opt out during formal combine interviews."They asked if I regretted it, and I said, 'Absolutely not,'" Corral said, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. "I never thought about opting out. ... It was never a thought in my mind. I was going to play regardless."The 23-year-old said the injury was "a high ankle sprain, no breaks, no tears."Corral is expected to be a first-round pick in April's draft, but he is part of a quarterback class without a clear-cut No. 1 prospect.Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett, Liberty's Malik Willis, and North Carolina's Sam Howell are the others contending to be the first signal-caller off the board, and the trio will have the chance to separate themselves with Corral absent from workouts. While Corral won't throw at the combine, he said he's on track to fully participate in his March 24 pro day."About two and a half weeks ago, I started throwing and running," Corral said. "... I am throwing at 100% right now. I just started taking dropbacks about two and a half weeks ago. Before that, I was just throwing from spots, not taking any dropbacks."Corral threw for 3,349 yards and 20 touchdowns against five interceptions in 2021 while adding 614 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Arizona Cardinals have signed head coach Kliff Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim to new contract extensions through the 2027 season, the team announced Wednesday."The leadership of both Steve and Kliff have been key factors in the team's turnaround over the last three seasons," Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement. "We are all looking forward to continuing that progress and recognize these two individuals will be a big part of achieving our long-term goals as an organization."Their new deals come after a successful 2021 campaign which saw the Cardinals make their first playoff appearance since 2015. The club finished 11-6 after a 7-0 start but bowed out of the postseason with a wild-card loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. The Cardinals have improved their record every year since hiring Kingsbury in 2019. They won five games his first year, eight in 2020, and 11 last season. The next order of business for the duo will be the future of quarterback Kyler Murray. The former No. 1 overall pick is looking for an extension from the organization, and his representatives submitted a contract proposal to the team.Kingsbury said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team's "long-term goal" is to have Murray under center.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen doesn't consider running back Saquon Barkley untouchable in trade talks as the team looks to get under the salary cap."We're still working through that, but I'm open to everything," Schoen told reporters Tuesday at the NFL combine, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com. "Whether it's trading player for player, I'll listen to anybody. If it's trading a couple of players, I'm not going to say we're open for business on the entire roster, but if anybody is going to call and they're interested in any of our players, I'll certainly listen."Again, we're in a situation where unfortunately we have to get under the salary cap and we're not in very good salary-cap health. I'm not going to say yes to every deal, but I'm definitely going to listen and I'll be open to the situations that are best for the New York Giants."The Giants must clear roughly $12 million of cap space by March 16, which marks the beginning of the new league year. New York would obtain over $7.2 million in cap space by moving Barkley, who's been hindered by injuries since his phenomenal rookie campaign. The 2018 No. 2 pick is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.Schoen, who took over as GM on Jan. 21, said the Giants will start making decisions about how to reset their cap "soon."Cornerback James Bradberry, linebacker Blake Martinez, and tight end Kyle Rudolph are among the other veterans who could be on the chopping block."There's a lot of contingency plans that weigh on some of the decisions that we're going to make," Schoen said. "We're getting together with some of the agents of the players on our current roster and starting some initial conversations on different things. But sooner than later, we'll start making the necessary moves to get under the salary cap and start planning for the 2022 season."Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Kyler Murray is pushing for a firm commitment from the Arizona Cardinals, and his head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, wants nothing more than to grant the quarterback his wish."Our long-term goal is to have Kyler Murray be our quarterback," Kingsbury said Tuesday at the NFL combine. "He understands that and he understands my view of him and how I feel about him."Murray's agent, Erik Burkhardt, released a statement Monday emphasizing the quarterback's desire to stay in Arizona amid rumors of friction.Burkhardt also revealed he sent a contract extension proposal to the Cardinals, which would represent "a real commitment from the organization" to compete for championships and would match the current quarterback market.Kingsbury said he hasn't talked to Murray since the statement came out but acknowledged "it's part of the business."Murray is now eligible for a new deal after completing his third NFL season. The 2019 No. 1 pick scrubbed all mentions of the Cardinals from his Instagram account in early February, sparking speculation he could be looking to force an exit.Reports then surfaced that Arizona was unhappy with Murray's leadership skills. Murray, meanwhile, apparently felt the Cardinals framed him as the scapegoat for their blowout playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Cardinals and Murray later publicly claimed they were no issues between them, with the quarterback calling the speculation "nonsense."Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said later on Tuesday that he believes Murray will play for Arizona in 2022 even without a new contract, according to Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network.Keim added he intends to pick up the fifth-year option in Murray's rookie deal.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc.
