The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are in serious talks to acquire star wide receiver Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Chiefs granted Hill's agent permission to seek a trade after extension talks stalled, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and is set to earn over $18 million in 2022.Hill has been a centerpiece of Kansas City's prolific offense since 2017. The speedster is coming off his fourth 1,000-yard campaign in five years, and he caught a career-high 111 passes for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns last season.A Hill trade would send another round of shockwaves through the AFC West, which has seen numerous star players enter the division since free agency opened. The Chiefs, whose high-flying offense has powered them to six straight division titles and one Super Bowl championship, would be left with tight end Travis Kelce and free-agent signee JuJu Smith-Schuster to anchor their receiving corps if a Hill trade comes to fruition.Kansas City is reportedly scheduled to meet with free-agent receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on Wednesday.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. After trading Atlanta's all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns for a third-round pick Monday, Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot admitted Wednesday he prioritized finding a good home for Matt Ryan."It was more important for us to do right by Matt than to try to maximize compensation," Fontenot said, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Fontenot also said the Falcons probably could've gotten a better haul for Ryan if they'd opened up discussions with more teams.Ryan spent 14 seasons with Atlanta after being drafted third overall in 2008. He had a 120-102 record as the Falcons' starter and led them to Super Bowl LI. Recent free-agent addition Marcus Mariota is expected to replace him in 2022.But despite the decision to trade a franchise icon, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith refused to call the upcoming season a rebuilding year."Our charge is to win," Smith said, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It's not fair to the players."The Falcons are coming off a 7-10 mark and a third-place finish in the NFC South in 2021.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors.1. Buffalo Bills Kevin C. Cox / Getty Images Sport / GettyIf there was any doubt about how the Bills view themselves after narrowly missing out on an AFC title game appearance, their offseason moves made it clear. Headlined by the signing of Von Miller to a huge deal, Buffalo is coming for everybody in 2022.2. Los Angeles RamsThe reigning champions just missed out on the top spot after losing Miller, one of the key players in their Super Bowl run, to one of their biggest competitors. But L.A. is still the favorite in the NFC after adding Allen Robinson to an already stacked offense.3. Tampa Bay BuccaneersTom Brady is back, and the Bucs are top Super Bowl contenders once again. The power of the GOAT was clear in free agency as Tampa Bay brought back Ryan Jensen, Carlton Davis, and Leonard Fournette, among others, who were all expected to leave before the quarterback's return from retirement.4. Kansas City ChiefsThe quietest of the AFC West teams (at least for now), the Chiefs still made two major splashes in wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and safety Justin Reid. Kansas City should still be the favorite for the division title, but this year is undoubtedly the biggest challenge of the Andy Reid era.5. Los Angeles Chargers MediaNews Group/Orange County Register via Getty Images / MediaNews Group / GettyWith Justin Herbert only a year or two away from his first NFL extension, the Chargers went all-in to win a Super Bowl, trading for Khalil Mack and signing J.C. Jackson to bolster their defense. Now, it's up to Brandon Staley to put all the pieces together.6. Cincinnati BengalsJoe Burrow has to be in the running for the happiest quarterback following the start of free agency. Burrow had the weapons, and now he has the protection after the Bengals overhauled their offensive line. Still, it's fair to question if a Super Bowl hangover is possible.7. Cleveland BrownsFrom just a purely football perspective, Cleveland is immeasurably better than it was at the end of last season after bringing in Deshaun Watson and Amari Cooper. Watson could still face NFL discipline, which could scupper the Browns' season, but they're right in the thick of the AFC fight.8. Las Vegas RaidersFew would've blamed the Raiders if they opted to rebuild in an ultra-competitive AFC West, perhaps even trading Derek Carr at his peak value. Instead, Las Vegas joined the division's arms race by acquiring Davante Adams and signing Chandler Jones. Please, NFL, put the AFC West in prime time every week.9. Denver BroncosDenver finally has its successor to Peyton Manning in Russell Wilson, who will get his long-desired wish to be the unquestioned centerpiece of his offense and franchise. The Broncos have the roster to compete in the AFC but will need Wilson to regain his form after a lackluster 2021 campaign.10. Green Bay Packers Jonathan Daniel / Getty Images Sport / GettyNo one had more of a rollercoaster ride during the start of free agency than Packers fans. The elation of Aaron Rodgers re-signing, followed by the shock of the Adams trade just days later. While Green Bay still boasts a solid roster, it's no longer on the level of the Rams or Bucs.11. Tennessee TitansTennessee retained several key free agents and swapped out Julio Jones for Robert Woods. The Titans will likely be one of the better teams in the AFC next season, but with the rest of the conference's top clubs making major moves, has their window closed?12. Baltimore RavensThe Ravens might be the most overlooked AFC team, thanks to the wild moves from the rest of the conference's upper echelon. Baltimore just missed out on a wild-card spot in 2021 despite being destroyed by injuries and now has the likes of safety Marcus Williams and offensive tackle Morgan Moses on board.13. San Francisco 49ersSan Francisco arguably boasts a roster worthy of a top-10 spot. However, Trey Lance remains such a massive question mark that we can't yet expect the 49ers to be anything more than the best of the rest after the NFC's favorites.14. Dallas CowboysDallas is one of the teams that clearly got worse during free agency after trading Amari Cooper for peanuts and losing Randy Gregory to the Broncos in embarrassing fashion. Still, the NFC doesn't have many offenses that can keep up with Dak Prescott and Co.15. Indianapolis Colts Michael Hickey / Getty Images Sport / GettyAfter a long wait, the Colts landed their quarterback in Matt Ryan. It's another Band-Aid move, but the veteran gives Indy its best chance to compete in 2022. Unfortunately for the Colts, the strength of the AFC means a divisional-round appearance is likely their ceiling.16. Arizona CardinalsThe Kyler Murray drama has subsided (for now), and we haven't heard much from Arizona since then. They retained Zach Ertz and James Conner, but those moves don't change the fact the Cardinals firmly remain the third-best team in the NFC West.17. New England PatriotsAfter splashing tons of cash during free agency in 2021, the Patriots mostly sat out this season. Trading Shaq Mason to the Bucs for a fifth-round pick as an unretirement gift to Brady was among the most questionable decisions across the league.18. Minnesota VikingsThe Vikings are running it back with Kirk Cousins under their new leadership regime. Stealing Za'Darius Smith from the Packers is a solid move, but even with Green Bay losing Adams, it's hard to see Minnesota fighting out of no man's land in the NFC.19. Philadelphia EaglesPhiladelphia's biggest wins were keeping some of its longtime stars, with Jason Kelce eschewing retirement and Fletcher Cox re-signing after briefly being cut. The Eagles are ahead of schedule in their rebuild, and another leap in 2022 will largely depend on how they use their three first-round picks.20. Pittsburgh Steelers Omar Rawlings / Getty Images Sport / GettyStarting Mitchell Trubisky isn't exactly an exciting prospect after nearly two decades of Hall of Fame-level quarterback play. But it's a low-risk, medium-reward bet that won't prohibit the Steelers from making a move for a quarterback in the draft.21. New Orleans SaintsThe Saints missed out on Watson and turned back to Jameis Winston, who played solidly before tearing his ACL last year. However, that was with Sean Payton at the helm. Now that Brady is back in the NFC South, the best New Orleans can probably hope for is a wild-card spot.22. Washington CommandersIs Carson Wentz an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke? Sure. But the Colts moved on for a reason. His leadership and consistency issues will be even more impactful for the Commanders, already a more volatile franchise than Indy. Moreover, Wentz's price is out of sync with the rest of the quarterback moves.23. Miami DolphinsMiami initially focused on retaining Emmanuel Ogbah while bringing in a solid Plan B at quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater and adding some depth weapons. But finally landing elite left tackle Terron Armstead after days of rumors will dramatically improve the perception of the Dolphins' early offseason work.24. Chicago BearsJustin Fields won't have much help in his sophomore season, as Chicago lost both Robinson and guard James Daniels. Meanwhile, the Bears' big addition, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, fell through due to a failed physical.25. Carolina Panthers Christian Petersen / Getty Images Sport / GettyMatt Rhule is facing a make-or-break season in Year 3, and the early signs don't inspire optimism. A Hail Mary for Watson fell well short, the pass-rush took a major hit with Haason Reddick's departure, and Sam Darnold is still in line to start.26. Seattle SeahawksThe Seahawks insist they intend to compete rather than rebuild despite trading Wilson and cutting Bobby Wagner. But Drew Lock isn't cutting it in the cutthroat NFC West, and no rookie quarterback seems capable of making a Day 1 impact. Seattle should get the Browns on the phone.27. New York JetsThe Jets prioritized fixing their secondary and tight end spot with a handful of mid-tier money moves, headlined by D.J. Reed and C.J. Uzomah. New York is still at least a season away from making a playoff push, but GM Joe Douglas' methodical approach is a breath of fresh air for the usually erratic franchise.28. Detroit LionsWhile the Lions didn't win a lot in 2021, they still managed to instill hope with a strong-willed and gritty approach born of their head coach Dan Campbell. But with D.J. Chark the only significant addition, more pain is likely in store in 2022 before any gains come to fruition.29. New York GiantsThe Giants worked to rebuild their depth with a host of minor signings - a smart approach considering their cap woes and how far they are from competing. The 2022 campaign will be about evaluating their roster, most notably Daniel Jones, for 2023 and beyond.30. Jacksonville Jaguars Wesley Hitt / Getty ImagesJaguars general manager Trent Baalke is intent on keeping his job, even if it means emptying his team's wallet for any free agent that walks through the door. Christian Kirk's deal was arguably the most shocking of the early free-agency period.31. Atlanta FalconsWhat is the plan in Atlanta? The Falcons not only failed to land Watson, but they backed themselves into a corner with Ryan, ultimately having to accept mediocre trade value for their longtime quarterback. It's going to be a long season for the NFC South club.32. Houston TexansHouston can at long last move on after sending Watson to Cleveland. It appears the Texans will roll with Davis Mills this season, likely with their eyes already trained on an intriguing 2023 quarterback class.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. If the Kansas City Chiefs trade Tyreek Hill, they already have a replacement lined up.Free-agent wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is set to visit Kansas City on Wednesday, though no deal is imminent, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. In a stunning move, the Chiefs reportedly granted Hill permission to seek a trade amid stalled contract talks. The Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets are apparently the front-runners for Hill.Valdes-Scantling is one of the best wideouts still available on the open market following the first week of free-agent action. The veteran spent the last four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, racking up a combined 123 catches for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.Valdes-Scantling established himself as one of the NFL's top deep threats while playing with Aaron Rodgers, averaging 17.5 yards per catch over his career. He also led the league in that category in 2020 with 20.9.It was expected Valdes-Scantling would likely return to Green Bay following the club's decision to trade Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders. While the potential addition of Valdes-Scantling won't completely replace the production of Hill - who has four 1,000-yard seasons over the last five campaigns - the Chiefs bolstered their receiving group earlier in free agency with JuJu Smith-Schuster.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is open to possibly returning to the Cleveland Browns, a source told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.It's unclear whether the Browns, who recently traded for wideout Amari Cooper, are interested in bringing Beckham back.Beckham and Cleveland parted ways after two-plus seasons midway through the 2021 campaign due to the receiver's tumultuous relationship with quarterback Baker Mayfield. However, Mayfield's imminent departure from Cleveland would clear the way for a potential Beckham return, Cabot notes.Mayfield recently asked for a trade in the wake of Cleveland's acquisition of Deshaun Watson. The Browns traded for Watson on Friday and reportedly gave him a fully guaranteed five-year, $230-million contract. In November, the relationship between Beckham and the Browns reached a crossroads when Beckham's father reposted a video montage of his son open in coverage and Mayfield either missing on throws or not looking in his direction.Cleveland then agreed to release Beckham, who eventually signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams. The 29-year-old racked up 114 receptions for 1,586 yards and seven touchdowns through 29 appearances with the Browns. In L.A., the three-time Pro Bowler appeared in only eight regular-season games, totaling 305 yards and five touchdowns on 27 catches. The LSU product was also a key contributor for the Rams in their Super Bowl run.Though Beckham suffered a torn ACL in Super Bowl LVI, Los Angeles remains interested in re-signing him.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Davante Adams and Derek Carr have long flirted with the idea of playing together in the NFL, but a reunion between the former Fresno State teammates didn't seem possible until the Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders stunned the football world last week.Following a contract dispute, the Packers sent Adams to the Raiders in exchange for a first- and second-round pick in 2022.Though Adams' contract situation with the Packers became an issue last July, the five-time Pro Bowler didn't think about leaving Lambeau Field until after the 2021 season."(Teaming up with Carr) started to become more of a reality, I think, after the season. Obviously, it was something that we didn't even entertain during the season because we both had to focus on trying to win a Super Bowl. ... Once we wrapped up the season, started communicating a little bit," Adams said Tuesday. He added: "Once we got to a point where it was something that could be realistic now and not just a thought, we started to try to put a little bit of a plan together. Obviously, I was still going back with Green Bay at that point and still weighing my options, but I think we got to a point where we felt it was a good move for us."Adams has said playing with Carr again has long been a dream of his. Reuniting with the quarterback on the Raiders makes things even more special for the receiver."I was a Raiders fan my whole life, so it is a dream to be a Raider," Adams said Tuesday.Las Vegas gave Adams a record five-year, $140-million contract after acquiring him. The Packers had previously used the franchise tag on him in February.Adams and Carr enjoyed a pair of seasons together in college at Fresno State, putting up 3,031 yards and 38 touchdowns.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Former New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead is headed to the Miami Dolphins, he announced Tuesday, according to Katherine Terrell of The Athletic.Armstead and Miami have agreed on a five-year deal worth up to $87.5 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The pact, which reportedly contains $43.37 million guaranteed, includes incentives and has a base value of $75 million, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Armstead was arguably the top free agent available this offseason. The 30-year-old established himself as one of football's top offensive tackles in recent years, earning three consecutive Pro Bowl nods from 2018-20. That streak ended last season after an elbow injury limited him to only eight appearances.Injuries have been an issue for Amstead throughout his career; he's missed at least six games in four of the last six seasons. The 2013 third-round pick logged 97 appearances (93 starts) with the Saints. He allowed just four sacks over the last two campaigns, according to PFF.Miami ranked 32nd and 31st in pass- and run-blocking last season, respectively, and the team allowed 40 sacks on the year.Armstead will be the second new starting offensive lineman to join Miami this year, following guard Connor Williams.

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead is aiming to find middle ground on a deal for Aaron Donald that pays the star defensive tackle what he's worth while keeping the club in a position to improve."We definitely have chatted with Aaron, his representation," Snead said Tuesday, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. "And we're trying to come up with a win-win solution to reward Aaron but still definitely be able to continue trying to compete as a team at the highest level. So we're in progress there."Donald said after winning Super Bowl LVI that he would take time to consider his future. However, he was at the forefront of "run it back" chants during the team's championship parade. The eight-time Pro Bowler's current deal is worth $22.5 million per season, which ranks sixth in the NFL among defenders, according to Spotrac.Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., another key contributor to Los Angeles' Super Bowl run, is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the final and is a free agent. With Beckham recovering, the Rams signed top free-agent wideout Allen Robinson. Snead insists the club remains interested in bringing back Beckham, though he doesn't expect the star receiver to return to the field anytime soon."We would definitely appreciate him being a part of that diversity of (receivers) we were talking about, and coming in obviously later in the season and kind of finishing things off with him," Snead said.Donald contributed 12.5 sacks during the regular season, while Beckham played a large role in the postseason, totaling 288 yards and two touchdowns across four playoff games.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. "We love him. He maybe will go down as one of the great draft picks we've ever had here."He added, "We are going to do everything we can to get it done."Metcalf has been among the NFL's most explosive downfield threats since entering the league as a second-round pick in 2019. He's exceeded 900 yards in each of his three seasons and recorded a career-high 83 catches for 1,303 yards in 2020. He finished last year with 967 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 24-year-old receiver will have a new quarterback throwing passes to him following Wilson's trade to the Denver Broncos. The Carolina Panthers don't currently have any interest in pursuing a trade for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, sources told The Athletic's Jeff Howe. The news comes after Howe reported that Mayfield's camp had preliminary talks with the Panthers and Seattle Seahawks. The Browns reportedly granted Mayfield permission to seek a new team after they acquired former Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson on Friday. Mayfield submitted a trade request during the club's pursuit of Watson.A former No. 1 overall pick, Mayfield's options appear to be dwindling with the Panthers out of the running. He apparently preferred a trade to the Indianapolis Colts, but they recently acquired Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons.Mayfield had a down year last season after leading Cleveland to the playoffs in 2020. The Minnesota Vikings and two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Za'Darius Smith agreed to a three-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. The deal is worth $42 million and carries a maximum value of $47 million, a source told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. It keeps Smith in the NFC North following his release from the Green Bay Packers.Smith anchored an effective pass rush during his three seasons with the Packers, who cut him to get under the salary cap. Smith had 26 sacks over his first two seasons with the team before a back injury cost him nearly all of the 2021 campaign - he returned in the playoffs and had a sack against the San Francisco 49ers.The Vikings will add the 29-year-old to a pass rush that already features Danielle Hunter. Hunter has been one of the NFL's top sack artists when healthy, though injuries have limited him to seven games over the past two seasons. Minnesota picked up Hunter's $18-million roster bonus Sunday, all but cementing his return in 2022.Smith previously appeared to have a deal in place with the Baltimore Ravens but backed out of the agreement to remain a free agent. The Los Angeles Rams didn't have to do much to convince quarterback Matthew Stafford to sign a contract extension this offseason. However, Stafford - now one of six quarterbacks with an average annual salary of at least $40 million - took less money than he could have to help the Rams build another championship-caliber roster in 2022, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport."I was just trying to find something that felt good for both sides where we are able to continue to add players and pieces around me," Stafford said, per ESPN's Adam Teicher. The Rams, who acquired Stafford in a trade with the Detroit Lions in March 2021, awarded the 34-year-old with a four-year, $160-million extension after he helped them win Super Bowl LVI in his first season with the team."I just had so much fun playing for this team this year, playing for this organization, this coaching staff, and I wanted to make sure I was able to do this for a long time," Stafford said.Stafford played his first 12 seasons for the Lions and is the franchise's all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, though he failed to win a playoff game in three appearances. In his first year with the Rams, he set a franchise single-season record by tossing 4,886 yards in 17 games. The 2009 first overall pick also tied a team record with 41 touchdown passes."I obviously wanted to say thanks to the Rams for giving me that opportunity," the signal-caller said. "It was a lot of hard work getting to this point. I'm just happy where we are and to know what the future looks like for me and for our team. It's an exciting thing as a player to kind of know where you are going to be and be able to put some roots down and really go try to make something really special for a while."The Rams have lost two key starters this offseason. They traded wide receiver Robert Woods to the Tennessee Titans and saw linebacker Von Miller land with the Buffalo Bills in free agency. However, they've signed wideout Allen Robinson, adding a new star pass-catcher to the receiving corps.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Indianapolis Colts acquired quarterback Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a 2022 third-round pick, the team announced Monday.Ryan currently has two years remaining on his deal. If the 2016 MVP wasn't dealt prior to 4 p.m. ET, he would have collected a $7.5-million roster bonus that was pushed back from Friday to help facilitate the Falcons' attempt to land Deshaun Watson.Atlanta will save $9 million against the salary cap but incur a dead cap hit of $40.5 million, according to Over the Cap. Ryan signed a five-year, $150-million extension with the Falcons in 2018.The Colts find their quarterback after trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders along with a 2022 second-round pick and 2022 seventh-rounder for a 2022 second-rounder, a 2022 third-rounder, and a 2023 third-rounder that can become a second-round pick. The third-rounder the Colts sent to the Falcons is their original pick (No. 82 overall), a source told ESPN's Dan Graziano. The Seattle Seahawks were among other interested suitors for Ryan this offseason after sending Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos earlier this month.Ryan's departure ends a 14-year relationship with the Falcons that began when the franchise drafted him third overall in 2008.The four-time Pro Bowler is the Falcons' all-time leader in passing yards (59,735) and touchdowns (367) and leaves with a 120-102 record as a starter. Urban Meyer was even less prepared for the NFL than his brief time in charge of the Jacksonville Jaguars suggested. The former Jaguars head coach was unfamiliar with star players around the league, including Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel, and Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, reports Jayson Jenks and Mike Sando of The Athletic."Who's this 99 guy on the Rams?" Meyer asked one staffer during the season, a source told Jenks and Sando. "I'm hearing he might be a problem for us."Meyer had said he conducted a six-month deep dive on the NFL prior to taking the job.The Athletic's story also highlighted other reported allegations of mistreatment and unprofessionalism against Meyer, who apparently kicked kicker Josh Lambo during warmups and publicly called out receiver Marvin Jones, which led to a practice confrontation."The most toxic environment I've ever been a part of," a veteran member of the Jaguars' football operations staff said. "By far. Not even close."Jacksonville fired the ex-Ohio State legend just 13 games into his first campaign after a 2-11 start.Meyer said in January that his tenure with the AFC South club "was the worst experience I've had in my professional lifetime."The Jaguars replaced Meyer with Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Pederson this offseason.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Cincinnati Bengals keep adding to their offensive line.Cincinnati has signed former Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle La'el Collins to a three-year deal, the team announced Sunday. The pact is worth $30 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal will act like a two-year contract worth up to $22 million, as the third year was added to help spread out Collins' cap charge, adds Schefter.Collins made 71 starts for the Cowboys since joining as an undrafted rookie in 2015. The LSU product, who missed the entire 2020 season due to a hip injury, was suspended for five games in 2021 for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.Dallas cut Collins on Thursday after failing to find a trade partner, saving $10 million in cap space. The New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, and Denver Broncos also pursued him in free agency, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler."I just believe there's good fits and there's perfect fits. And I just felt like this was a perfect fit from the jump," Collins said Sunday, according to Ben Baby of ESPN.Collins has been a consistent presence on the Cowboys' offensive line in recent years and has also stood out due to his versatility. He played the entire 2021 campaign at right tackle but also has experience at guard. The 28-year-old allowed 17 pressures and two sacks in 454 pass-block snaps played last year, according to PFF.Improving the offensive line became a priority for the Bengals after quarterback Joe Burrow was sacked a league-high 51 times during the regular season. Burrow was also sacked a playoff single-game high nine times in the divisional round, and the Los Angeles Rams took him down seven times in Super Bowl LVI.The Bengals already signed guards Alex Cappa and Ted Karras this offseason.

The Atlanta Falcons have fielded trade calls for quarterback Matt Ryan over the last few days following the team's failed pursuit of Deshaun Watson, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Falcons also listened to offers for the former MVP prior to losing out on Watson to the Cleveland Browns, adds Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.A decision on Ryan's future will need to be made by Monday at 4 p.m ET. If the quarterback is still on Atlanta's roster after that deadline, he's owed a $7.5-million roster bonus that was pushed back from Friday to help pursue Watson.Ryan's deal could improve if the team opts to keep him for 2022, adds Rapoport. The veteran is set to carry a $48.67-million cap hit this upcoming season. The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly eyeing Ryan, and the Indianapolis Colts have been speculated as a possible landing spot. The Seahawks and Colts are both in need of a starting quarterback after trading Russell Wilson and Carson Wentz, respectively, this offseason. The Falcons will need to find a veteran replacement if they trade Ryan, who's played for the NFC South club since being drafted third overall in 2008. The Dallas Cowboys are interested in adding free agent Jason Pierre-Paul to their pass-rushing corps, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.Dallas already signed Dante Fowler but could bring in another veteran to offset losing Randy Gregory, who departed for the Denver Broncos. The Cowboys still have DeMarcus Lawrence and Dorance Armstrong on their roster in addition to Fowler.Pierre-Paul is coming off a 2.5-sack campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though he played through a torn labrum in his shoulder. He had 9.5 sacks in 2020 and recorded at least eight sacks in every season from 2017-20, making him one of the NFL's most consistent pass-rushers.The 33-year-old Pierre-Paul is among the top edge defenders still on the market after a week of free agency. The Houston Texans have traded quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns for a package that includes three first-round picks, the Texans announced Friday. The full terms of the deal will see the Browns send a 2022 first-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2024 first-round pick, 2023 third-round pick, and 2024 fourth-round selection for Watson and a 2024 fifth-rounder.Watson, who had to waive his no-trade clause for the move, will sign a fully guaranteed five-year, $230-million contract with the Browns, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The star passer previously eliminated the Browns as a potential destination, making this decision a shocking reversal. He was believed to be deciding between the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons after also eliminating the Carolina Panthers from contention.Watson's trade market heated up after a grand jury declined to indict him on March 11 following a police investigation into allegations of sexual assault during massage sessions. The 26-year-old still faces 22 lawsuits from women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. He sat out the entire 2021 campaign even though the league ruled him eligible to play. The NFL could discipline the quarterback at some point under its personal conduct policy even though he won't face criminal charges."Any transaction would have no effect on the NFL's ongoing and comprehensive investigation of the serious allegations against Deshaun Watson," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement after trade reports emergerd. "Nor would it affect his status under the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Personal Conduct Policy."If the league's investigation determines that Watson violated the Personal Conduct Policy, discipline may be imposed pursuant to the policy and the CBA."Watson first requested a trade from the Texans in January 2021 amid a fractured relationship with ownership and upper management. He led the NFL in passing with 4,823 yards in 2020 and threw a career-high 33 touchdowns that season to earn his third Pro Bowl selection. The Browns pursued Watson after missing the playoffs in 2021 with Baker Mayfield under center. Mayfield labored through a shoulder injury for most of the campaign and finished with only 17 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions.Mayfield, the No. 1 pick of the 2018 draft, requested a trade while the Browns met with Watson and tried to convince the Texans star to waive his no-trade clause. The Browns had an opportunity to draft Watson in 2017 but used the first overall pick that year on Myles Garrett. Watson went 12th in that draft, two spots behind Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes.Cleveland has been searching for a franchise quarterback since re-entering the NFL in 1999. One of the craziest stretches in recent NFL memory just got even crazier, and the Super Bowl market can hardly catch up.A two-week period of blockbuster moves reached a crescendo Friday when Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson agreed to waive his no-trade clause in a move to the Browns. Cleveland will send five picks - including three first-rounders - to acquire Watson. The move sent shockwaves through the NFL community and betting markets alike after rumors of Watson's destination forced adjustments on teams all week long - including speculative movements on the Saints, Falcons, and Panthers at various shops. In the end, the Browns won the Watson sweepstakes and saw their odds slashed across the board. After dealing anywhere from 35-1 to 40-1 to win the title, Cleveland is priced as a 14-1 title contender at Barstool Sportsbook, which currently ranks the team seventh on the Super Bowl oddsboard. The Browns are +700 to win the AFC - behind only the Bills (+350) and Chiefs (+450) - and are the favorites to win the AFC North, edging out the Ravens and Bengals (both +220).The player futures market is also hot on Watson, who led the league in passing yards (4,823) and yards per attempt (8.9) in 2020 and made three consecutive Pro Bowls before being sidelined for the 2021 campaign. He's 14-1 to win his first MVP trophy in 2022 - tied for seventh on the list with Cowboys star Dak Prescott (+1400) and just ahead of new Broncos signal-caller Russell Wilson (+1400).Watson and Wilson are the two biggest stars to switch teams this offseason, with both blockbuster moves immediately rocking the Super Bowl market. Tom Brady's stunning return from a brief retirement also had a sizable impact - the Buccaneers are now the favorites to win the NFC.Yet those aren't the only dominoes likely to fall this offseason. Friday's move also precipitates an eventual deal for Baker Mayfield, who requested a trade from the Browns on Thursday amid swirling rumors about their interest in Watson. Mayfield is among a gaudy list of quarterbacks likely on the move that also includes Jimmy Garoppolo and, possibly, Matt Ryan.C Jackson Cowart is a sports betting writer at theScore. Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has told the organization he'd prefer to be dealt to the Indianapolis Colts, sources told The Athletic's Jeff Howe.Mayfield requested a trade this week amid the Browns' pursuit of Deshaun Watson, though it was reported that the team initially denied his request. It's expected he'll be moved now that Cleveland has reportedly landed the former Houston Texans quarterback.Meanwhile, the Colts are searching for their next signal-caller following their trade of Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders after just one season together. The Seattle Seahawks reportedly also talked about acquiring Mayfield. Like the Colts, they also have a void at quarterback after shipping Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.Mayfield's standing with the Browns has soured this offseason. He called the relationship "too far gone to mend" in a statement Thursday. He preceded that with a thank you message to the Browns' fanbase earlier this week. The Browns and Mayfield earned a playoff appearance in 2020 but failed to follow up on their highly successful campaign last season. Bothered by injuries and inconsistent play, Mayfield's development stagnated in 2021 as he threw for 17 touchdowns to 13 interceptions and held a 6-8 record.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2022 first- and second-round pick, the Raiders announced Friday.Adams will receive a new contract worth $141.25 million over five years with the Raiders, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 29-year-old's $28.25-million average annual salary will be the highest among receivers, surpassing Arizona Cardinals wideout DeAndre Hopkins' $27.25 million, according to Spotrac. The Packers franchise tagged Adams earlier this month. They offered more money than Las Vegas ultimately handed him, but Adams wanted to play with the Raiders, his agents confirmed to Rapoport. In Las Vegas, Adams will reunite with former college teammate Derek Carr. The duo spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons together at Fresno State, with Adams totaling over 3,000 yards for 38 receiving touchdowns. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Logan Ryan struck a one-year deal Friday following the veteran defensive back's release from the New York Giants, he told CBS Sports' Josina Anderson.Ryan started 30 of 31 games for the Giants over the past two seasons, notching 209 tackles and 17 pass breakups with one interception. New York saves a modest $775,000 in cap space by cutting him.Ryan will reunite with former New England Patriots teammate Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. Ryan won two Super Bowls with Brady in New England, and he later intercepted the quarterback on his final pass as a Patriot while playing for the Tennessee Titans.Logan transitioned to safety with the Giants after beginning his career as a cornerback. The 31-year-old will join a Buccaneers secondary that lost safety Jordan Whitehead in free agency.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Los Angeles Rams made a huge splash in free agency by agreeing to a three-year contract with wideout Allen Robinson, the team announced Thursday. The deal is worth $46.5 million and includes $30.7 million guaranteed, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Robinson also garnered interest from the Las Vegas Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The former Pro Bowl receiver experienced a down year in 2021 while playing on the franchise tag for the Chicago Bears. He produced back-to-back 1,000-plus-yard campaigns in 2019 and 2020 to go along with 13 combined touchdowns.Robinson piled up 293 receptions, 3,561 yards, and 18 touchdowns over four seasons with the Bears. The Penn State product began his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who drafted him in the second round in 2014.The 28-year-old's addition boosts an already impressive receiving corps for the reigning Super Bowl champions. Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, and Robert Woods headline a formidable pass-catching group. However, the Rams have received calls from teams inquiring about Woods' availability since signing Robinson, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Woods' 2021 campaign came to a premature end following a torn ACL, but he's expected to be ready for training camp. He caught 45 passes for 556 yards and four touchdowns across nine games last season.Additionally, the Rams still have room to bring back wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and hope to re-sign him, Schefter reports.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Philadelphia Eagles released six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox after 10 seasons, the team announced Thursday.Cox, designated as a post-June 1 release, was set to have $18 million of his salary guaranteed at 4 p.m. ET Thursday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. However, the door isn't closed on a potential return as the Eagles and Cox are making progress on a one-year contract that's set to include $14 million guaranteed, Garafolo reports. The longtime defensive tackle's standing with the team has been shaky since last season. Cox reportedly attracted trade interest prior to free agency, and the Eagles aggressively tried moving him before the 2021 trade deadline.Cox has been a fan favorite in Philadelphia since the club drafted him 12th overall in 2012. He's recorded 58 sacks and 14 forced fumbles in 156 games (150 starts) for the Eagles. Cox finished the 2021 campaign with 3.5 sacks and ended his run of six consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns from 2015-20.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The NFL's 2022 free-agency extravaganza is off and running. Now that all new contracts can be made official, let's take a look at some of the early returns on all of this wheeling and dealing. The Deshaun Watson effectMuch of the NFL world is fixated on the fate of Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and where he might be traded. All signs now point to the Saints, Panthers, and Falcons as possible landing spots. It must be stressed that even though Watson will not be criminally charged, he still faces civil complaints from nearly two dozen women who accused him of sexual misconduct. There are real people involved in this, in ways that extend well beyond football. This fact will follow Watson wherever he goes, and commissioner Roger Goodell could still hand him a lengthy suspension at any time.Goodell's application of justice can be quite arbitrary, but there is a precedent here: Ezekiel Elliott and Ben Roethlisberger were suspended for six games after facing respective allegations of abuse and sexual impropriety against women, although Rosthelisberger's penalty was eventually reduced to four games after an appeal.Nonetheless, wherever Watson winds up ought to kick-start the next steps for quarterbacks like Jimmy Garoppolo, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, and Matt Ryan. Oh, and speaking of Ryan …What are the Falcons doing? Jared C. Tilton / Getty ImagesAtlanta still has Ryan under contract for two more years, and it reportedly restructured his deal (read: pushed even more of the cap consequences into the future) to lower Ryan's potential 2022 cap hit by $12 million. But wait!Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported Thursday that Ryan's contract restructure hasn't actually happened, which would mean Ryan is still on the books for 2022 with a record cap charge of $48.66 million. At the same time, the Falcons are also wooing Watson and even had the Gainesville, Georgia, native in for a visit Wednesday. Tight end Kyle Pitts then tweeted (and deleted): "It's about to get scary in Atlanta." Connecting the dots here, it seems Atlanta is setting things up to trade Ryan (and a package of draft picks) to Houston for Watson. But here's the rub: Ryan is due to collect a $7.5-million roster bonus Friday. If the Falcons manage to trade him before Friday, they'll be stuck with a dead cap hit of $40.025 million. If they trade him any time after Friday, that dead cap charge jumps to $48.025 million. Watson's salary, incidentally, is $35 million, though the Falcons would presumably restructure that in some way to avoid having Ryan and Watson account for anywhere from $75 million to $83 million on this year's cap, which is $208.2 million. As all of this is happening, mind you, the Falcons' depth chart at wide receiver currently includes Olamide Zaccheaus, Frank Darby, and ... that's it. It's safe to say Atlanta needs to get this QB bookkeeping sorted soon.Chargers load up on defense Chris Unger / Getty ImagesLos Angeles has one of the league's most talented young quarterbacks in Justin Herbert. Yet it missed the playoffs in 2021 because it had a defense that ranked 26th in DVOA, including 19th against the pass and 30th versus the run. And now it has to contend with Patrick Mahomes, Derek Carr, and Russell Wilson in the AFC West. The Chargers attacked this problem by trading for edge rusher Khalil Mack and by signing cornerback J.C. Jackson and defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day. Mack is 31, and even though he played in just seven games last season because of a foot injury, he still managed six sacks. His contract isn't onerous - cap hits of roughly $23 million in 2022 and 2023, with nothing guaranteed - and he'll make for a nice pass-rushing bookend along with Joey Bosa.According to PFF, Jackson had the second-lowest passer rating allowed among all cornerbacks (47.8), in the season after Stephon Gilmore departed from the Patriots. Joseph-Day accounted for three sacks in only seven games played with the Rams last year because of a pectoral injury, but in 2020 he ranked 14th among interior defenders in run defense grades - a role he'll be counted on to fill for the Chargers. What's next for Baker Mayfield? The Browns are out of the running for Watson, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, but their pursuit of him created a mess with incumbent QB Baker Mayfield.ESPN's Jake Trotter reported that Cleveland never informed Mayfield of its planned flirtation with Watson, although Garafolo indicated the team had told Mayfield's agents at the combine that "they'd only explore top-tier QBs such as Watson." No matter: Mayfield tweeted an open letter Tuesday that sounded an awful lot like a goodbye. A day later, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the Browns wanted an "adult" at quarterback and that they could be making eyes at Garoppolo. Mortensen has since doubled down on that in a radio interview while also saying that others in the Browns building don't view Mayfield that way.Mayfield has one year remaining on his rookie contract, at the fifth-year option rate of $18.9 million (cash and cap). Now that his agent has reportedly made a formal trade request, will the Browns relent and deal him to, say, the Colts?Jags spend big ... again Wesley Hitt / Getty ImagesThe Jaguars opened their wallets again, first by placing the franchise tag on left tackle Cam Robinson, then by adding right guard Brandon Scherff, wideout Christian Kirk (at an average annual salary of $18 million), tight end Evan Engram, wideout Zay Jones, cornerback Darious Williams, linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, and defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi. On the one hand, it's imperative for Jacksonville to surround quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a support system as he enters Year 2 of his rookie deal. On the other, the Jags are a league-worst 15-50 in the four seasons since they reached the AFC Championship Game, and this is the fourth time in the last five offseasons they've ranked in the top 10 in contractual guarantees handed to free agents. Just last year, GM Trent Baalke doled out more than $86 million in guarantees to free agents, according to Spotrac, which was second only to the Patriots' $155 million. The difference? New England won 10 games with its rookie QB, while the Jags won two with the No. 1 pick in the draft.Past is not prologue, and new head coach Doug Pederson has nothing to do with the franchise's history of face-planting. But if Jacksonville is going to salvage Lawrence - and, in turn, its organizational future for the next several years - it's going to need these big investments to start paying off in 2022.Bengals do what was necessary Robert Gauthier / Los Angeles Times / Getty ImagesCincinnati's primary mission entering the offseason was to find a way to protect quarterback Joe Burrow, who was last seen guiding the franchise within a field goal of winning the Super Bowl despite winding up on his back on pretty much every other play.Lo and behold, the Bengals made huge strides in this regard as soon as the negotiating window opened Monday. They locked down guards Alex Cappa of the Bucs and Ted Karras of the Patriots and did so without having to break the bank. It landed Cappa with a commitment of only $11 million fully guaranteed and Karras with a mere $5 million in virtual guarantees.Throw in the fact the Bengals used the franchise tag on safety Jessie Bates III in addition to retaining defensive lineman B.J. Hill - who they acquired last year for a seventh-round pick - and it's seriously starting to look like this is a team that's built to sustain its success.Having a QB like Burrow certainly helps, but so does prioritizing the opportunity to build around him with the cap space afforded by his cost-controlled rookie contract.Steelers and Trubisky Nic Antaya / Getty ImagesPittsburgh entered the offseason in the unfamiliar position of having to find a quarterback while also having cap space to spend. Its decision to add Mitchell Trubisky, the Bills' backup last season and the No. 2 overall pick in 2017, should not be viewed as a long-term answer.Trubisky's limitations - particularly when it comes to accuracy - are well known. But the Steelers didn't invest much in him - a reported two years and $14 million with incentives that can bring that number as high as $27 million - and it's important to consider what's not known about the contract details.

Offensive tackle La'el Collins will visit the Cincinnati Bengals following his release from the Dallas Cowboys, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. The Cowboys officially released the right tackle on Thursday after failing to find a trade partner. Dallas designated Collins as a post-June 1 cut, saving $10 million in cap space. The Bengals already signed guards Alex Cappa and Ted Karras to address their struggles protecting quarterback Joe Burrow. The NFL suspended Collins for five games last season for violating its substance abuse policy.Collins, 28, has been a consistent presence on Dallas' offensive line since joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2015, starting 72 games across seven seasons. He played mostly at right tackle but also has experience at guard.Veteran Terence Steele is likely to replace Collins in Dallas.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved.
