Former Green Bay Packers pass-rusher Za'Darius Smith is not signing his deal with the Baltimore Ravens, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 29-year-old reportedly agreed to a four-year, $35-million contract with a maximum value of $50 million with the team. The Ravens thought they had a verbal agreement with Smith as of Wednesday but he ultimately changed his mind, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. While the possibility of a reunion is still possible, it seems unlikely a deal is salvageable at this point, Zrebiec added.Smith is coming off a year hampered by a back ailment. He was able to play one regular-season game and returned to the field for the Packers' lone postseason contest.Smith spent the first four seasons of his career in Baltimore where he tallied 119 tackles, 18.5 sacks, and 24 tackles for loss during his tenure.Baltimore continues its search for pass-rushing specialists. Free-agent quarterback Jameis Winston has spoken with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts over a potential move, reports Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.New Orleans made an offer that would bring the veteran passer back to the club for a third season, according to Anderson."I still view myself as a starter in this league and that's what I'm looking for," Winston said. The former Pro Bowl signal-caller threw for 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and three interceptions in seven contests last season before suffering an ACL injury that ended his campaign.Winston, who was efficient for the Saints following Drew Brees' retirement, remains in good spirits as he continues to rehab from the injury. The 28-year-old previously dazzled with NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers for five seasons after being selected with the first overall pick in 2015. He's two seasons removed from tallying career highs in passing yards (5,109) and touchdowns (33).The Saints have reportedly narrowed their attention on the Houston Texans' Deshaun Watson. Winston could serve as an insurance policy if the franchise is unable to obtain the three-time Pro Bowler passer. The Colts are exploring different starting quarterback options after trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders earlier in March.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz admitted Thursday the team's poor finish to the 2021 regular season was a shock. In his inaugural press conference with the Washington Commanders, the 29-year-old signal-caller also said he was "definitely surprised" by how his tenure in Indianapolis concluded, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.Indianapolis dealt Wentz just a year after acquiring him from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for multiple draft picks. The Colts missed the playoffs in 2021 after ending the regular season with two losses in which Wentz threw just two touchdowns to one interception. The Commanders acquired the veteran signal-caller when the teams swapped 2022 second-round picks, and Washington also gave up a third this year and a conditional third in 2023."I think it was a year that had highs and lows, ups and downs, Wentz said. "But the way we finished, the way I finished, was horrible. It was horrible. It was tough to swallow."The veteran passer led the Colts to a 9-8 record as a starter after throwing for 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.Wentz also brushed off a report that his lack of leadership - among other qualities - led to his departure from Indianapolis."There (is) truth in some things, but if we try to combat every report, we run out of things to say," Wentz said. "I just try to be myself. ...I strongly feel I had amazing relationships with people in Philly and in Indy."The No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft is focused on a fresh start in a new environment for a second consecutive season. Donning burgundy and gold colors for Thursday's presser, Wentz said he feels healthy and is excited to begin working with Washington's stars, including Terry McLaurin.Washington explored many different options in a quest to find a franchise arm. The club inquired about the availability of Aaron Rodgers and reportedly offered multiple first-round picks in an attempt to acquire Russell Wilson. It also did its homework on the Houston Texans' Deshaun Watson. The Commanders will aim to record their first winning season since 2016.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Tennessee Titans released Julio Jones one year after acquiring the wide receiver in a highly touted trade with the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced Thursday. The Titans cut Jones with a post-June 1 designation, saving $11.5 million in cash and salary-cap space, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The designation will leave $8.4 million in dead money for Tennessee in 2022 and 2023.Jones finished the 2021 season with 31 receptions for 434 yards and a touchdown, marking the least productive campaign of his NFL career. He suited up for 10 games, missing extended time with hamstring injuries for a second consecutive year. The Titans acquired Jones from Atlanta last June for a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick. But the 33-year-old landed in head coach Mike Vrabel's doghouse early in the season and never seemed to fully recover; he was absent from the field late in several games.Jones enjoyed a decorated career with the Falcons, who drafted him sixth overall in 2011. He made seven Pro Bowls while with Atlanta and is the franchise's all-time leading receiver with 12,896 career yards.Jones' reported release leaves A.J. Head coach Mike McDaniel is bringing a familiar face to the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins signed former San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert, his agent, Brett Tessler, announced Wednesday. It's a one-year contract worth $3.125 million, Tessler told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Mostert spent the past five seasons in San Francisco. He averaged at least 5 yards per rushing attempt in 2019 and 2020, though he logged only 137 and 104 carries in those years, respectively. The 29-year-old was also a crucial weapon for the 49ers during their Super Bowl LIV run, racking up 336 yards and five touchdowns through three postseason games.Injuries have kept Mostert mostly on the sideline over the last two campaigns. An ankle ailment limited him to only eight appearances in 2020, and a knee injury forced him to miss 16 games last year.Mostert is the second running back to sign with the Dolphins this offseason after Chase Edmonds. Miami struggled to move the ball on the ground last season, averaging only 92.2 rushing yards per game and 3.5 yards per carry.

Star edge rusher Von Miller is heading to the Buffalo Bills on a blockbuster six-year contract that will pay him $120 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal includes $51.5 million guaranteed, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.Miller will move to Buffalo after helping the Los Angeles Rams win Super Bowl LVI. The title marked Miller's second championship after winning Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos.Despite nearing his 33rd birthday, Miller was arguably the top pass-rusher on the free-agent market. He recorded 9.5 sacks last season, registering five of them after the Broncos traded him to the Rams. He added four sacks in the playoffs, including two in the Super Bowl.Miller is an eight-time Pro Bowler and one of the top pass-rushers of his era. He's posted 127 career sacks and hit double digits in that category in seven seasons.Buffalo has tried to bolster its edge presence for years. The Bills were linked to Miller through trade rumors in the past but were more connected to Chandler Jones - a Rochester native - in free agency. Jones inked a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders hours before Miller agreed to his new pact. The Bills have also spent high picks on pass-rushers recently. They selected Gregory Rousseau, Boogie Basham, and A.J. Epenesa within the first two rounds of the last two drafts.Buffalo is coming off back-to-back AFC East titles and appears to be a budding powerhouse with Josh Allen emerging as a superstar quarterback. Sean McDermott's team had the NFL's No. 1 defense last season despite losing top cornerback Tre'Davious White to a knee injury midway through the campaign. The Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and Cleveland Browns were all reportedly vying for Miller's services in free agency. Miller teased a return to Denver before the market opened, but the Broncos seemingly exited the sweepstakes by agreeing to a big-money contract with Randy Gregory on Tuesday.Buffalo also signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end O.J. Colin Kaepernick and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll have been in touch in light of the Russell Wilson trade that's left the franchise with a gaping hole at quarterback."He contacted me the other day," Carroll said Wednesday. I think he does, somewhere."I don't know if it's here. I don't know where it is. I don't know if it's even in football. But it's just, people get a second opportunity in their lifetime, and they can make the most of it if they're ready for it."Kaepernick hasn't played in the NFL since 2016. A polarizing figure, he was the first NFL player to kneel during national anthems to protest police brutality and racial inequality in the United States. The now-34-year-old has continued to work out during his prolonged absence from professional football. Seattle Seahawks owner Jody Allen revealed Wednesday that Russell Wilson's trade to the Denver Broncos materialized due to the quarterback's desire for a change of scenery."While Russell made it clear he wanted this change, he made Seattle proud and we are grateful for his decade of leadership on and off the field," Allen said. The stunning trade on March 8 ended the nine-time Pro Bowler's tenure with the Seahawks after 10 seasons and one Super Bowl title.Denver sent quarterback Drew Lock, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, tight end Noah Fant, two first-round picks, a pair of second-round selections, and a fifth-rounder to the Seahawks."When it became evident that Russell was interested in playing elsewhere, we used that opportunity to explore the market, allowing us to acquire three quality players, tremendous draft capital, and create salary-cap flexibility," Seahawks general manager John Schneider said. "We have a clear vision about the direction of this team, and this is an exciting time for our organization."Wilson offered a slightly different perspective, explaining at his introductory press conference in Denver that both sides wanted to move on."I didn't initiate it. It was definitely mutual," he said, according to Broncos reporter Aric DiLalla, adding that he's honored to be with his new club."If I was going to waive my no-trade clause, it had to be to a winning football team," Wilson explained. The 33-year-old insists his goal "is to play 10-12 more years and win three or four more Super Bowls," per James Palmer of NFL Network.Broncos general manager George Paton said there was "a month of negotiations" before Denver and Seattle finally came to an agreement, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times."I've never met anyone who's as obsessed with winning as Russ is," Paton said, per DiLalla.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield fueled speculation about his future after thanking the city of Cleveland on social media Tuesday.Mayfield posted his message hours after the Browns reportedly met with Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who's been looking for a trade destination this offseason."The past four years have been nothing short of truly life-changing since I heard my name called in the draft to go to Cleveland," Mayfield wrote. "This is not a message with hidden meaning. This is strictly to thank the city of Cleveland for embracing my family and me. We have made many memories and shared growing in this process through all the ups and downs."I have no clue what happens next, which is the meaning behind the silence I have had during the duration of this process. I can only control what I can, which is trusting in God's plan throughout this process."I have given this franchise everything I have. ... And that will not change wherever I take my next snap. Whatever happens, I just want to say thank you to the fans who truly embraced who I am and the mentality that aligned so well with this city's hard-working people."The Browns' reported interest in Watson came as a surprise this year. General manager Andrew Berry said earlier this offseason that he fully expects Mayfield to be the team's starter in 2022.Mayfield hasn't lived up to expectations since being selected first overall in 2018. The NFL awarded 39 compensatory draft picks to 16 teams Tuesday, including a league-high four to both the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. The compensatory formula takes into account the caliber and number of free agents a team lost and signed the previous year. The New York Giants are signing quarterback Tyrod Taylor to a two-year, $17-million deal that includes $8.5 million guaranteed, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.Taylor will join New York as Daniel Jones' backup. The Giants also showed interest in signing former Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills passer Mitchell Trubisky this offseason.New York will be the sixth different team of Taylor's career after the Baltimore Ravens (2011-14), Bills (2015-17), Cleveland Browns (2018), Los Angeles Chargers (2019-20), and Houston Texans (2021).The 32-year-old began the 2021 season as Houston's starter but lost the role to rookie Davis Mills after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2. Taylor eventually got his job back but didn't finish the campaign under center due to late-season struggles.Taylor completed 60.7% of his passes for five touchdowns against five interceptions through six appearances last year while posting a 2-4 record as a starter.Overall, the Virginia Tech product has logged 53 career starts in the NFL.Jones has yet to play a full season since the Giants drafted him sixth overall in 2019. A neck injury limited him to 11 appearances in 2021, forcing Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm to take over under center. Von Miller's market is heating up.The Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angels Rams are currently in the mix for the star linebacker, sources told Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.Miller began the 2021 season on the Denver Broncos but was traded to the Rams midway through the campaign. He teased a potential return to Denver on social media earlier in March. The eight-time Pro Bowler was a key contributor for Los Angeles during its Super Bowl LVI title run this season, notching 14 tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble during the playoffs.Dallas' interest in Miller grew after pass-rusher Randy Gregory backed out of a deal with the Cowboys to sign with the Broncos, reports ESPN's Ed Werder.Gregory reportedly spurned Dallas after initially signing Tuesday and agreed to the same five-year, $70-million pact with Denver. The 32-year-old Miller racked up 50 tackles (19 for loss) and 9.5 sacks through 15 regular-season appearances in 2021.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Jacksonville Jaguars released linebacker Myles Jack, the team announced Tuesday.Jacksonville will save $8.35 million by cutting the 26-year-old, according to Over The Cap.The AFC South club was the biggest early spender as the legal tampering period of free agency opened Monday. The Jaguars reportedly agreed to sign former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Foyesade Oluokun to a three-year deal worth $45 million, freeing the team up to move on from Jack.Jack signed a four-year, $57-million extension in August 2019 after a strong beginning to his NFL career. While he continued to rack up tackles, he failed to live up to his contract as the Jaguars' defense lost an array of key players. The 2016 second-round pick was the lone remaining member of the standout defense that led Jacksonville to the AFC Championship Game during the 2017 season.Jack will join a free-agent linebacker class that also includes Bobby Wagner, Leighton Vander Esch, and Dont'a Hightower.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are acquiring guard Shaq Mason in a trade with the New England Patriots, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.Tampa Bay will send New England a fifth-round pick, reports Greg Auman of The Athletic. The Buccaneers reportedly will take on all of Mason's remaining salary, totaling $16 million over two seasons.New England will gain just over $7 million in cap space by moving the veteran, according to Over The Cap.The Buccaneers needed to bolster Tom Brady's protection after losing both starting guards from last season. Alex Cappa reportedly signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, while Ali Marpet retired in February.Mason and Brady were teammates with the Patriots from 2015-19. The guard was a staple of New England's offensive line during the team's two Super Bowls over that period and made 98 starts across seven seasons.New England is left with major question marks on the offensive line after also losing Ted Karras, its other starting guard, to the Bengals in free agency.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New York Jets are signing free-agent cornerback D.J. The Cleveland Browns are meeting with Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson on Tuesday about a potential trade, a source told The Athletic's Jeff Howe. The Atlanta Falcons have also "emerged as a sleeper team" for Watson's services, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen. The quarterback, who grew up in the Atlanta area, will meet with the Falcons on Wednesday, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Texans reportedly prefer to trade Watson to an NFC club, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. The Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints have apparently already met with Watson, while Houston reportedly denied the Indianapolis Colts' request to speak to him.The Browns' leap into the Watson sweepstakes comes as a surprise with the team already having Baker Mayfield under center. General manager Andrew Berry said earlier this offseason that he fully expects Mayfield to be the team's 2022 starter.Mayfield is coming off a poor 2021 season that was ravaged by injuries and inconsistent play. He completed slightly over 60% of his passes for 17 touchdowns to 13 interceptions while posting a 6-8 record. The Falcons are in the process of restructuring quarterback Matt Ryan's deal but haven't yet submitted the official agreement to the NFL, Schefter and Mortensen add. The restructure would increase Ryan's dead-money hit in 2022 to $55.525 million and likely prohibit a move for Watson. If Atlanta landed Watson, the Falcons could look to ship out Ryan, who has a no-trade clause.Meanwhile, Watson has been looking to change teams since last offseason. His trade buzz has picked up after a Houston grand jury decided last week not to indict him over allegations of sexual assault. The 26-year-old signal-caller has a no-trade clause in his contract.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Detroit Lions are expected to sign former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver DJ Chark to a one-year deal worth $10 million guaranteed, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. The deal will be worth a maximum of $12 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Lions also re-signed pass-rusher Charles Harris to a two-year, $14-million contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Harris, a former first-round pick, broke out with the Lions last season. His 7.5 sacks not only led the team, but they were also a career high.Chark is coming off a 2021 campaign that came to a premature end due to a fractured ankle. He'd caught just seven passes for 154 yards with two touchdowns across four games prior to the season-ending injury. However, his 22 yards per catch was set to be a new career high.An explosive wideout, the 25-year-old's best performance came three seasons ago when he earned a Pro Bowl invite after recording 73 receptions for 1,008 yards. He'll join a young Lions receiving group that also features Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, and Quintez Cephus.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New England Patriots are trading pass-rusher Chase Winovich to the Cleveland Browns for linebacker Mack Wilson, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.A third-round pick in 2019, Winovich showed promise early in his NFL career by registering 5.5 sacks in each of his first two campaigns. However, he fell out of favor last season as he failed to earn a start or register a sack across 13 games.Winovich's playing time on defense also decreased from 58% in 2020 to just 14% in 2021, though he was still a frequent special teams contributor.Wilson's arc with the Browns follows a similar pattern. The 2019 fifth-round linebacker started 14 games as a rookie but hasn't seen the field as much in recent years. The Jacksonville Jaguars came ready to spend at the outset of the NFL's free-agent negotiating period, dishing out nearly $229.5 million in reported deals on the first day. Most notably, the Jaguars blew away any market expectations when giving former Arizona Cardinals wideout Christian Kirk on a mammoth four-year, $72-million deal that can reach $84 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The base annual average of $18 million makes Kirk one of the top 10 highest-paid receivers in football. In another marquee move, the Jaguars landed former Washington Commanders offensive lineman Brandon Scherff on a three-year, $49.5-million contract, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Making just under $15 million per season, Scherff becomes the NFL's highest-paid right guard.Former New York Giants tight end Evan Engram also intends to sign a one-year, $9-million contract with the AFC South club, reports Schefter. And to round out the Day 1 moves on the offensive side, the Jaguars are adding another weapon in former Las Vegas Raiders wideout Zay Jones, who's getting a three-year deal worth $24M and up to $30 million with incentives, a source told Rapoport.Jacksonville was also aggressive in bolstering its defense early in the day Monday, reportedly striking deals with former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Foye Oluokun and ex-New York Jets defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi.Oluokun, a breakout star who led the NFL with 192 tackles in 2021, will sign a three-year, $45-million contract, according to Rapoport. Fatukasi, meanwhile, is joining on a three-year, $30-million pact, his agents told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Kirk, a second-round pick in the 2018 draft, put up personal bests in receptions (77) and receiving yards (982) while adding five touchdowns last season.Scherff is the latest investment in an offensive line tasked with protecting rising quarterback Trevor Lawrence after Jacksonville franchise-tagged left tackle Cam Robinson earlier this month.Washington tagged Scherff in back-to-back years before letting him hit free agency this offseason. The 2015 top-five pick has built a reputation as one of the league's best guards, receiving an invite to the Pro Bowl in three straight years and five of the last six.Oluokun is coming off a career year with the Falcons after recording an NFL-high 192 tackles last season. The Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to a new three-year contract, the team announced Monday. The pact is worth $40 million, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Lawrence's deal also contains $30 million in guarantees over the first two years and reduces his cap hit from $27 million to $14 million in 2022.The 29-year-old, now signed through 2024, previously inked a five-year, $105-million extension in April 2019. He appeared in only seven regular-season games in 2021 due to a broken foot sustained at practice after Week 1. Lawrence didn't return until Week 13.The injury limited Lawrence to 21 tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles last campaign. The two-time Pro Bowler has been one of Dallas' best pass-rushers since entering the NFL as a second-round pick in 2014.
