The Houston Texans and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil have agreed to terms on a three-year, $66-million contract extension, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The new deal, which makes Tunsil the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history, includes $57.85 million in guaranteed money. Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles previously earned the highest average annual salary ($18 million) among offensive linemen after signing an extension last November.Tunsil arrived in Houston via a blockbuster trade from the Miami Dolphins before the 2019 campaign. He was set to play the last year of his rookie contract in 2020, but he's now signed through the 2023 season. He started 14 games and made his first Pro Bowl in 2019. The 25-year-old allowed three sacks and committed 18 penalties that season, according to PFF.Houston and Tunsil reportedly began to discuss a new contract in February during the combine. The Texans initially offered him a deal worth $18.5 million per season.Tunsil will have a new teammate in the Texans' backfield after David Johnson was acquired in the trade that sent All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. Houston also added to its receiving corps by signing veteran Randall Cobb and trading a second-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for Brandin Cooks.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Houston Texans have started "very preliminary" talks with quarterback Deshaun Watson regarding a new contract extension, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder. With left tackle Laremy Tunsil reportedly inking an NFL-record three-year, $66-million deal, the Texans' next priority is locking up their franchise passer, added Werder.Watson became eligible for his first extension after completing his third NFL season. The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the league's best quarterbacks and has led Houston to back-to-back division titles in two years as the team's full-time starter. In 15 games last season, Watson threw for 3,852 yards and 26 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.Russell Wilson currently tops all quarterbacks with $35 million per season, though Patrick Mahomes - who is also eligible for a new deal after finishing his third year - is widely expected to reset the market.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. By drafting former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round Thursday, the Green Bay Packers signaled that they are preparing for life after Aaron Rodgers.Arguably no one knows how Rodgers is feeling better than the man he replaced in Green Bay, Hall of Famer Brett Favre.Asked prior to the draft about the Packers potentially selecting a quarterback, Favre said he believes Rodgers will be the team's starter until the two-time MVP decides otherwise."Look, no one's going to replace Aaron unless Aaron chooses to be replaced. There's no worry for him that he's going to be ousted. He's too good of a player," Favre told TMZ Sports. "It's funny because Aaron and I were talking about it last year, how he gets how I was when he came in. Because now he's at that age that I was when he came in, and so it's getting about time that you start looking at drafting a guy or picking someone up in free agency."Not that we think Aaron is at the end of his road; I think he's got many good years, barring injury, ahead of him. But you do have to start grooming the next guy. And Aaron gets it."While Favre and Rodgers had a strained relationship during their time together in Green Bay, they've become friends in recent years.Favre was 35 years old and had been flirting with retirement when the Packers ended Rodgers' first-round slide in 2005. Rodgers is now 36 but hasn't shown a desire to hang up his cleats anytime soon.He signed a four-year, $134-million extension in August 2018 and can't be cut or traded without incurring an enormous dead-money hit until after the 2021 season at the earliest. While many saw the trade up to select Love as the beginning of the end for Rodgers in Green Bay, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Friday that he believes his QB remains the best in the league.Gutekunst added that the team didn't plan on drafting Love but decided to take the young passer after he slid to 26th overall. In March, Rodgers echoed Favre's belief that he won't be unseated in the foreseeable future."I'm confident (a young quarterback is) not going to beat me out anytime soon," he said.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. The opening night of the 2020 NFL Draft set a viewership record, the league announced Friday. An average audience of over 15.6 million viewers watched Thursday's coverage of Round 1 across ABC, ESPN, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes, and digital channels. That marks a 37% increase from last season's 11.4 million viewers and breaks the previous all-time record of 12.4 million viewers in 2014.The top five markets were Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Kansas City.Viewership peaked at 19.6 million people between 8:45-9 p.m. ET.In addition to the telecast of the 2020 NFL Draft, over 7 million viewers watched "Draft-A-Thon LIVE," a fundraiser supporting COVID-19 relief efforts."The theme of hope is always prevalent in the NFL, especially with regard to the draft," commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "In 2020, that's especially true, as we help honor health care workers, first responders, and others on the front lines of the battle with COVID-19 while giving our fans something to cheer about as we celebrate the next generation of NFL stars."The 2020 draft was scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, but those plans were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The league is hosting the draft virtually instead. Goodell announced Thursday that the Las Vegas Raiders will host the draft in 2022.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. In his 21 years as an NFL coach, Andy Reid-led teams had never selected a running back in the first round of the draft. That is until the Kansas City Chiefs picked Clyde Edwards-Helaire 32nd overall on Thursday night. The fact Reid was open to selecting a position in the opening round that is devalued in today's NFL should signify how much he likes Edwards-Helaire. He even went as far to say that the LSU runner is better than another former All-Pro running back he had during his lengthy tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles."I remember talking to (Reid) reminding him how much (Edwards-Helaire) reminds me of Brian Westbrook," Chiefs GM Brett Veach said, according to The Draft Network's Trevor Sikkema. "Coach called back and after a few conversations he admitted he thought he was better than Brian."Westbrook spent eight years with the Eagles from 2002-09. His best campaign came in 2007 when he led the NFL with 2,104 scrimmage yards. He caught 90 passes that season in an era before running backs had to be capable receivers, making him an easy comparable for Edwards-Helaire, who is already polished in the passing game.Edwards-Helaire, who was the only running back taken in the first round, is an advanced route-runner with soft hands. The shifty, elusive back had 55 catches to go along with 1,414 rushing yards last season at LSU.Prior to Edwards-Helaire, the highest Reid had ever drafted a running back was LeSean McCoy, who turned into a two-time All-Pro after going 53rd overall to the Eagles in 2009.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. Find line reports, best bets, and subscribe to push notifications in the Betting News section.Oh, you thought the NFL draft fun was over? That's pretty cute.Whether you're coming off a big night betting the first round on Thursday or are looking for some momentum following a dud, we still have rounds two and three slated for Friday. And that means we get to bet more.Although there isn't as much volume here as prior to the event, there are still edges to be found. With that in mind, here are some of the best bets to target tonight:Jalen Hurts (-290) vs. Jake Fromm There have been some wild moves in the market ahead of Day 2, which includes the next-quarterback-taken prop. Jacob Eason had been heavily favored over Jake Fromm and Jalen Hurts, but now the latter is the odds-on favorite at -150.However, instead of picking the dual-threat quarterback as the next passer off the board, I'm taking the matchup prop pitting him against Fromm, who I've faded plenty already. With Hurts projected to go in Round 2 and Fromm's forecasted draft spot in the high 60s, lay the chalk with Hurts.Cole Kmet over 43.5 (+100)Kmet will likely be the first tight end off the board, but when? The tight end market isn't exactly hot right now, and there isn't a bona fide stud in this class. There will also likely be a ton of value at the position in the later rounds, so I can't see a team using a second-round pick on a tight end.Next wide receiver taken: Laviska Shenault/Michael PittmanPlayer OddsTee Higgins+100Denzel Mims+225Laviska Shenault+500Michael Pittman+650Chase Claypool+2000KJ Hamler+2500Teams that didn't want to spend draft capital on a wide receiver in the first round can now pick from some great options.Tee Higgins was a standout at Clemson, and he can be a big, physical target on the outside, while Denzel Mims is also a first-round caliber talent. However, I'm pivoting and recommending plays on both Shenault and Pittman at +500 and +650, respectively. This is the spot in the draft when rankings fade away and general managers get their guy. Pittman and Shenault deserve to be in this tier, and I wouldn't be shocked if they're off the board early in Round 2.Michael Pittman Jr. under 49.5 (-145)I'll continue pumping up Pittman, who's perhaps the best receiver still on the board. He put up a quiet 95 catches, 1,222 yards, and 11 touchdowns during his final season at USC, and Pittman had been rising prior to the first round.Considering how the wide-receiver dominoes fell last night and how many playmakers are still available, Pittman shouldn't make it to pick No. 50. The teams to watch out for? The Colts (No. 44), Jets (48), and Steelers (49).Alex Kolodziej is a betting writer for theScore. Though the Carolina Panthers aren't shopping Curtis Samuel, they've received calls from multiple teams interested in acquiring the wide receiver, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. The Panthers believe Samuel fits their offense and would require a particularly impressive offer to consider dealing the wideout, Rodrigue adds.Samuel, 23, posted career highs in catches (54), yards (627), and touchdowns (six) in 2019. The 2017 second-round pick will earn around $2 million in the final year of his contract in 2020, according to Over The Cap.The Panthers added a standout wide receiver this offseason by singing Robby Anderson to a two-year, $20-million contract. Carolina's receiving core also includes former first-round pick DJ Moore, who led the team with 1,175 receiving yards in 2019.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Al Davis would be proud. The Las Vegas Raiders had their choice of the draft's top three wide receivers when they were on the clock with the No. 12 pick. They surprised many by taking Alabama's Henry Ruggs III - who most pundits had as the third-best receiver - over his college teammate Jerry Jeudy and Oklahoma's CeeDee Lamb."All three wide receivers we felt were diverse and would bring different things to the Raiders and I feel like coach Gruden and that offensive staff is so good they could have gotten the most out of all three of them," Mayock said after the draft. "However, the distinguishing factor really was his speed, his explosion, and his work ethic."Ruggs ran a 4.27 40-yard dash - the fastest of any player at the 2020 scouting combine. Davis, the late Raiders owner, was known for prioritizing speed during his time running the franchise. In high school, Ruggs set the Alabama state record for the 100m dash and put together a wildly impressive dunk reel on the hardwood.Ruggs was vastly outproduced by Jeudy the last two seasons at Alabama. However, 24 of Ruggs' 98 career receptions in college went for touchdowns. Mayock believes his explosiveness will complement the rest of the Raiders' offense nicely."He can run the deep routes. He also gets the manufactured touches, the bubble screens, the jet sweeps," he said. "I think if you force defenses to roll coverage, it opens up our run game. You respect our deep routes, it opens up Darren Waller. I just think it does an awful lot of things for us offensively."Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Dallas Cowboys were prepared for several scenarios with their No. 17 pick on Thursday night. None of them, though, included landing wide receiver CeeDee Lamb."We thought he was a top-10 pick," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said, according to dallascowboys.com's Jonny Auping. "We never really thought we had a chance to get him. Every mock draft we did, we had him long gone."Lamb was graded as the No. 6 overall player on the Cowboys' draft board, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. The wideout was then a no-brainer selection for Dallas, despite the three trade offers the team received while on the clock."We just didn't want to miss him," owner Jerry Jones said. The Philadelphia Eagles were interested in Lamb and tried to trade up to the Atlanta Falcons' No. 16 pick to select him, according to Ed Werder of ESPN. The deal didn't happen, and the Eagles selected wide receiver Jalen Reagor with the 21st overall pick instead.Falling to the Cowboys was also a surprise to the former Oklahoma standout."I didn't (think it was possible), but I'm happy that's where I ended up," Lamb said."When my phone rang it surprised me. Everything that I dreamed of was in that phone call," he added.Lamb joins a group of receivers that features Amari Cooper, who signed a long-term extension this offseason, and third-year pro Michael Gallup. It's the first time the Cowboys have selected a wide receiver in the first round since Dez Bryant in 2010.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. General manager Brian Gutekunst believes the Green Bay Packers have the top quarterback in the league with Aaron Rodgers, and the fact they drafted his potential successor in Jordan Love doesn't change their plans for the foreseeable future."Aaron's been around a long time and knows what we're playing for right now," Gutekunst said Thursday night on a conference call, according to Packers.com writer Mike Spofford. "We have the best quarterback in the National Football League and we plan to have him for a while competing for championships."I think he'll be a pro's pro. He's playing for legacy-type things, historic-type stuff. I know he's very, very motivated."The Packers selected Love with the 26th overall pick after trading up four spots with the Miami Dolphins. It was a decision Green Bay didn't expect to be in a position to make entering the draft."This was not something we set out to do," Gutekunst said. "He just happened to be a guy we liked who fell to us, and this was the best decision."Gutekunst added: "I never believe you're one player away. I don't believe in that. You can make mistakes believing you're one player away from anything ... The balance of immediate and long term is something I have to consider."Love, who thinks being behind Rodgers "is a really good situation to be in," is the first quarterback selected in the first round by the Packers since Rodgers was taken in 2005 as Brett Favre's successor."We think a lot of him. Down the road he certainly has all the ability to be a difference-maker," Gutekunst said about Love. "But these things take time, especially at that position. He has a lot of work ahead of him."The Packers have eight more picks to make in the 2020 draft. Their next selection is currently set at No. 62 on Friday as Round 2 and 3 take place.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

by Mike Alessandrini, Dan Wilkins on (#52KY5)
With Thursday night's first-round selections in the books, theScore's Mike Alessandrini and Dan Wilkins project the picks on Day 2 of the NFL draft.Round 233. Cincinnati Bengals - Josh Jones, OT, HoustonThe Bengals must protect new franchise quarterback Joe Burrow if the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is to succeed in the NFL. Jones represents an instant upgrade over Bobby Hart at right tackle.34. Indianapolis Colts (from WAS) - Denzel Mims, WR, BaylorMims sliding out of Round 1 is an ideal scenario for the Colts as they make their first pick of this draft. His blend of size and athleticism will make him a strong fit opposite T.Y. Hilton.35. Detroit Lions - Yetur Gross-Matos, EDGE, Penn StateFrequently selected in the first round of mocks throughout this draft season, Gross-Matos fills a position of need on Matt Patricia's defense and is arguably the top available prospect here.36. New York Giants - Xavier McKinney, S, AlabamaConsidered by many to be the best safety in this draft, McKinney is a steal for the Giants early in the second round. The Alabama standout is a highly intelligent player who can line up at a number of different spots in the secondary.37. New England Patriots (from LAC) - A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, IowaBill Belichick loves his big, powerful edge rushers, and Epenesa fits that mold. The Patriots struggled to get to the quarterback in 2019.38. Carolina Panthers - Kristian Fulton, CB, LSUThe Panthers continue to add on the defensive side of the ball with Fulton, whose ability in man coverage should make him an instant impact player at the next level.39. Miami Dolphins - D'Andre Swift, RB, GeorgiaThe Dolphins keep bolstering their offense with arguably the top offensive player left on the board. Swift and Tua Tagovailoa could make for an incredibly intriguing duo in Miami's backfield.40. Houston Texans (from ARZ) - Grant Delpit, S, LSUDelpit might have the best coverage skills of any safety in this draft. His ability to play either in the box or up high will provide a much-needed boost to the Texans' secondary.41. Cleveland Browns - Ashtyn Davis, S, CaliforniaWith only Karl Joseph, Andrew Sendejo, and Sheldrick Redwine to speak of at safety, the Browns could use a ball-hawing defender at the back of their stop unit.42. Jacksonville Jaguars - Tee Higgins, WR, ClemsonHiggins probably shouldn't still be available at this spot. The Jaguars happily take advantage, adding a big-bodied playmaker opposite 2019 breakout star DJ Chark.43. Chicago Bears (from LV) - Antoine Winfield Jr., S, MinnesotaWinfield is a high-level playmaker who will pair extremely well with Eddie Jackson after the Bears lost Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in free agency.44. Indianapolis Colts - Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern IllinoisAn impressive athlete with the versatility to line up and contribute all over the field, Chinn drew some first-round buzz leading up to the draft. The Colts could use such a player in a thin secondary.45. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Michael Pittman Jr., WR, USCMore ammo for Tom Brady. Standing 6-foot-4, Pittman will make the Buccaneers' scoring unit even more dangerous.46. Denver Broncos - Jaylon Johnson, CB, UtahImproving in the passing game remains the theme for the Broncos here, only this time on the defensive side of the ball. Johnson will step right in as a starting corner following the departure of Chris Harris Jr.47. Atlanta Falcons - Justin Madubuike, DT, Texas A&MAfter nabbing AJ Terrell in Round 1, the Falcons address their second-biggest need on defense with Madubuike. The Texas A&M product is the perfect gap penetrator to slot in beside Grady Jarrett.48. New York Jets - Laviska Shenault, WR, ColoradoThe Jets did well to upgrade Sam Darnold's pass protection in the first round; next on the to-do list is getting him a playmaker at receiver. Shenault is a fascinating prospect who can both stretch the field and destroy defenses after the catch.49. Pittsburgh Steelers - Lucas Niang, OT, TCUWith few weaknesses heading into the 2020 campaign, Mike Tomlin and Co. can address their right tackle position in this draft. If Niang is healthy, he'll provide an instant upgrade opposite Ali Villanueva.50. Chicago Bears - Trevon Diggs, CB, AlabamaCorner is likely the Bears' most pressing need, and Diggs is a pro-ready talent who excels in press coverage.51. Dallas Cowboys - Lloyd Cushenberry, C, LSUThe Cowboys recently lost Travis Frederick to retirement, but Cushenberry profiles as an ideal replacement in the middle of Mike McCarthy's potent offense.52. Los Angeles Rams - Zack Baun, EDGE, WisconsinBaun is an explosive pass-rusher off the edge, and though he lacks the size for an every-down role on the line of scrimmage, his skill set will allow him to play off the ball before rotating down in passing situations. The Rams just so happen to have a need in both spots.53. Philadephia Eagles - Willie Gay Jr., LB, Mississippi StateGay fits the athletic profile the Eagles covet in their front seven and addresses one of the team's biggest needs. Philadelphia has none of its starting linebacker spots secured at the moment.54. Buffalo Bills - Jonathan Taylor, RB, WisconsinThe Bills won't have much to think about if Taylor is available at this spot. Considered by many to be the best running back in the draft, his ability between the tackles should make him the perfect complement to Devin Singletary.55. Baltimore Ravens (from NE via ATL) - Terrell Lewis, EDGE, AlabamaAfter drafting LSU's Patrick Queen in Round 1, the Ravens return to their Alabama roots by selecting the high-upside Lewis. Baltimore must upgrade on the edge opposite Matthew Judon.56. Miami Dolphins (from NO) - Kyle Dugger, S, Lenoir-RhyneDugger will be facing a major jump in competition coming from a Division II program. Still, he has all the raw traits to develop into an impact player both in coverage and coming downhill against the run.57. Los Angeles Rams (from HOU) - Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLAThe Rams opted not to exercise the 2020 option on Nickell Robey-Coleman's contract this offseason, and Holmes represents an ideal replacement for the veteran at slot cornerback.58. Minnesota Vikings - Julian Okwara, EDGE, Notre DameThe Vikings give Danielle Hunter a new running mate by adding one of the most athletic pass-rushers in this class. Okwara will need to develop more play strength to reach his ceiling, but his speed off the edge will allow him to make an impact from Day 1.59. Seattle Seahawks - Jabari Zuniga, EDGE, FloridaThe Seahawks covet length and athleticism at defensive end, and Zuniga possesses both. He'll offer intriguing explosiveness on the edge opposite 2019 first-rounder L.J. Collier.60. Baltimore Ravens - KJ Hamler, WR, Penn StateAs the Ravens look to surround Lamar Jackson with more playmakers, Hamler fits the bill as well as any other receiver. His size will limit him to a slot role, but he's an explosive athlete who separates at all levels of the field and can be a game-changer after the catch.61. Tennessee Titans - Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi StateA team can never have enough corners, and the Titans are already quite thin at the position. Dantzler should be an ideal fit on the perimeter of Dean Pees' defense.62. Green Bay Packers - Cole Kmet, TE, Notre DameAfter spending a first-round pick on a quarterback, the Packers had better make an effort to improve Aaron Rodgers' weapons for the remainder of his tenure. Selecting Kmet should do exactly that, providing Rodgers a reliable target over the middle of the field.63. Kansas City Chiefs (from SF) - Ross Blacklock, DL, TCUThe Chiefs may not be able to keep Chris Jones for 2020 or beyond, so drafting an insurance policy on Day 2 wouldn't hurt. Blacklock is arguably the top player available here as well.64. Seattle Seahawks (from KC) - Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise StateA developmental lineman with rare athleticism for the position, Cleveland was getting some first-round hype before the draft. The Seahawks should be thrilled if they can get a player with that kind of upside at a position of need to close out the second round.Round 3 65. Cincinnati Bengals - Malik Harrison, LB, Ohio State66. Washington Redskins - Saahdiq Charles, OT, LSU67. Detroit Lions - Marlon Davidson, DL, Auburn68. His girlfriend, Crymson Rose, proceeded to grab a second phone that was in Lamb's other hand, only to have him snatch it back from her.

theScore's football editors evaluate who came away as the big winners and losers after the first 32 picks of the 2020 NFL Draft.Winners: Miami DolphinsHandout / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Dolphins didn't have to "Tank for Tua" after all. Nor did they have to package their three first-round picks to finally land a franchise centerpiece. All they had to do was sit at No. 5 and wait for him to fall into their laps. With the Round 1 fireworks behind us, it's apparent that much of the pre-draft chatter about medical concerns over Tua Tagovailoa's hip, wrists, and ankles was overblown, as was talk of the Dolphins preferring Justin Herbert or trying to trade up to land an offensive tackle. Perhaps the Dolphins leaked all three narratives themselves to obscure their desire to land the former Alabama star without surrendering additional compensation. In the end, the Dolphins got their man. After a generation of searching for a player with the necessary skill and charisma to step out of Dan Marino's shadow, they might finally have done it.Losers: Los Angeles ChargersMichael Hickey / Getty Images Sport / GettyAside from quarterback, the Chargers arguably had one of the league's most talented rosters entering the draft. They found their successor to Philip Rivers in Justin Herbert, but the jury is very much out on whether the former Oregon QB is worth the No. 6 pick. Moreover, Los Angeles stood pat and watched as Tagovailoa fell into the Dolphins' lap without the AFC East team even having to move up.While Tagovailoa's long-term health remains a concern, he's far more pro-ready than Herbert and could have helped L.A. win now and sell tickets in a highly competitive sports market. The Chargers' second first-round selection of linebacker Kenneth Murray (after a trade that cost a second and a third) was just as questionable. The ex-Oklahoma standout is a physical specimen but is very raw in coverage - not a good trait for a team that shares a division with Patrick Mahomes. All in all, the Chargers might have whiffed on their best shot at challenging the Kansas City Chiefs in the foreseeable future.Winner: Tom BradySteven Ryan / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrior to the first round, Brady had almost everything he could desire in Tampa Bay: an offensive-minded head coach, two Pro Bowl wide receivers, an ascending defense, and, of course, his BFF, Rob Gronkowski. But the 42-year-old's offensive line left something to be desired. The Buccaneers went a long way toward ensuring their legendary quarterback will be kept clean by trading up one spot to select Tristan Wirfs at No. 13, the last of the consensus top four offensive tackles. The former Iowa standout will be plugged straight into the right tackle spot, where he played almost exclusively in college. With no weaknesses now on offense, Brady's chances of winning ring No. 7 are looking better by the minute.Loser: Aaron RodgersEzra Shaw / Getty Images Sport / GettyRodgers likely went to sleep Wednesday night dreaming of the many wide receiver prospects who could be available with the Green Bay Packers' first-round selection. But fast forward 24 hours, and Rodgers will now be greeting his potential successor in Jordan Love instead of a shiny new weapon.Rodgers isn't going anywhere soon. He's contracted through the 2023 season, and the first financially sensible time the Packers can move on from the two-time MVP is after 2021. But make no mistake, at 36 years old Rodgers is entering the twilight of his storied career, and the Packers are clearly already planning for life after him.Winners: Dallas CowboysHandout / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Cowboys came away with arguably the best wide receiver in a class loaded with standouts and didn't have to trade up from No. 17 to do so. CeeDee Lamb is polished enough to make an immediate impact, yet he has the upside to grow into a legitimate No. 1 option down the road. As a rookie, he'll round out one of the NFL's deepest groups of skill players, which features Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup out wide and Ezekiel Elliott next to Dak Prescott in the backfield.Even sweeter for the Cowboys is that the addition of Lamb could alleviate pressure to re-sign Gallup in a couple of seasons when his rookie deal expires. With so many big-money contracts already on the books, Dallas may be in tough to keep the former third-rounder, who eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards one year ago. The Cowboys entered the draft needing to address their defensive secondary but can do that on Day 2.Losers: Las Vegas RaidersDon Juan Moore / Getty Images Sport / GettyMike Mayock appeared to extend his arms all night, less than 10 days after saying "the biggest mistake is trying to reach for need." At No. 12, he took Henry Ruggs III, who was widely considered the third-best receiver available after Lamb and Jerry Jeudy. The larger controversy came at No. 19 when he went off the board to select Damon Arnette, a projected Day 2 talent, after the top cornerbacks had been claimed. Before the draft, Mayock said he'd be comfortable working virtually given his background as a TV analyst. But he appeared to panic when the Raiders went on the clock, selecting players he likely could still have gotten if he had traded down. He admitted afterward that Arnette would probably have lasted a while longer, but he didn't want to risk losing him. Mayock seemed to be equally jittery last year when he chose Clelin Ferrell fourth overall.Winners: Offensive linemenJonathan Bachman / Getty Images Sport / GettyBig men were the belle of the ball on Day 1. Seven offensive linemen were selected, including four within the first 13 picks. Georgia, in particular, had two tackles selected in the first round: Andrew Thomas at fourth overall and Isaiah Wilson at No. 29.In the position breakdown of players selected, offensive line led the way, followed by receivers at six picked. Those numbers represent the demand at the pro level for plug-and-play offensive linemen and the steep drop from the top prospects in this draft to the second tier.Losers: SafetiesMichael Hickey / Getty Images Sport / GettyA position that once was thought to have two or perhaps three slam-dunk picks in the first round (Xavier McKinney, Grant Delpit, Antoine Winfield Jr.) was shut out on the first night of the draft. The three aforementioned safeties were invited to participate in the NFL's virtual draft but were only seen sitting quietly with their loved ones as they watched the opening night unfold. McKinney, Delpit, and Winfield are good bets to be picked Friday, but they lost out on the millions that come with being a first-round selection.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Jacksonville Jaguars aren't optimistic they'll find a trade partner for disgruntled pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue. At the end of the first night of the NFL draft, Jaguars general manager David Caldwell told reporters the team has yet to receive a trade offer for the 25-year-old."I think his options are very limited at this point," Caldwell said, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Ngakoue has made his desire for a trade known. He even got into a Twitter spat with Jaguars co-owner Tony Khan on Monday.Nonetheless, the Jaguars are willing to let bygones be bygones."We'll welcome him back with open arms," Caldwell said. The Jaguars used their franchise tag on Ngakoue, but the four-year pro has yet to sign it.Copyright © 2020 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Green Bay Packers made perhaps the most shocking move of the 2020 NFL Draft so far, trading up to No. 26 in order to pick quarterback Jordan Love out of Utah State.Green Bay dealt the 30th and 136th overall picks to the Miami Dolphins to move up four spots for Love. The Packers reached the NFC Championship Game in January and were thought to be seeking another skill position player to make another run at the Super Bowl in 2020. Instead, Green Bay used its top pick on Aaron Rodgers' eventual successor.Rodgers still appears to be near the top of his game, but the 36-year-old is entering his 16th season.Famously, the Packers selected Rodgers with the 24th pick of the 2005 draft as franchise legend Brett Favre was entering his 15th campaign. Rodgers sat for three seasons before he succeeded Favre as the starting quarterback. Fifteen years later, Love was selected at almost the exact draft slot.Prospect ProfileSchool: Utah State

The Miami Dolphins selected quarterback Tua Tagovailoa out of Alabama fifth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Dolphins landed the potential next face of their franchise a year after gutting their roster and positioning themselves to secure one of the top picks in the draft. Miami has been searching for a quarterback to build around since Dan Marino retired at the end of the 1999 campaign.Tagovailoa's draft stock appeared to be in flux over the last several weeks. He was unable to do physical drills at the scouting combine while recovering from a broken hip, and teams were unable to examine him medically in subsequent weeks because facilities were shut down by the NFL.Injuries plagued Tagovailoa throughout his college career, as he dealt with ankle and wrist problems before the aforementioned hip ailment."I'm able to play if need be," he said after being selected, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. When healthy, Tagovailoa was as prolific a quarterback as there was in the country. His accuracy to all three levels of the field mesmerized scouts, while his mobility added a dynamic element to his game.In three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Tagovailoa completed 69.3% of his passes and threw 87 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. The former five-star recruit entered legendary status as a freshman when he came off the bench at halftime of the College Football Playoff National Championship and led Alabama to a comeback victory over Georgia.Prospect ProfileSchool: Alabama

theScore is offering fans the chance to win $5,000 USD with our Top 10 Draft Contest!* Correctly predict the first 10 draft picks in the order they're called to win. When it comes to betting the NFL draft, I can't put enough emphasis on the importance of getting in early. In an information-driven market, bettors know just as much as oddsmakers, especially early in the process.By simply reacting to information, I have an abundance of bets down that we couldn't dream of making now. I have C.J. Henderson under 16.5 at -120. It's -500 in other spots. I have Jedrick Wills to the New York Giants at +1400. That's at -120 depending where you look. I've got Andrew Thomas under 11.5 at plus-money. Under 10.5 is -250 now. It's all about acting quickly.Once draft day approaches, information is out there and edges are much harder to find. That said, for bettors late to the market still looking for skin in the game, there are a number of props out there that I'd happily scoop up, even if the value has been sapped from the line. The following are my top 10 draft props still available right now.CeeDee Lamb 1st WR drafted (-130)There's enough concern over Jerry Jeudy's knee and Henry Ruggs, while explosive, has a lower floor and ceiling than Lamb. The Oklahoma product is unquestionably the most complete - and safest - wide receiver in the draft and there is little doubt that he will be the first one off the board.Isaiah Simmons over 6.5 (-160)One of the stranger cases in this draft, Simmons is likely to fall simply because there isn't a good fit for him in the top six picks. Even after the sixth pick, are we so sure the Carolina Panthers or Arizona Cardinals will take him? It's conceivable Simmons drops out of the top 10 entirely tonight.Austin Jackson under 25.5 (-120)This line hasn't been adjusted enough from when I got it at under 28.5 a week ago. The run of offensive linemen in this draft is very real, so be prepared. NFL.com draft reporter Daniel Jeremiah said that based on his talks with GMs, he expects Jackson to go a lot higher than anticipated, potentially inside the top 15. Again, it's all about reacting to information.Jordan Love over 19.5 (-200)The quarterback market is a lot softer in this draft than in years past, while the overall draft class is incredibly deep. There's simply not a big demand for quarterbacks right now - after all, Cam Newton and Jameis Winston are still free agents. Don't be surprised if Love falls out of the first round entirely.Philadelphia Eagles draft defense 1st (+200)There's no doubt the Eagles would love a wide receiver tonight, but they're not positioned well to get one of the top guys. Unless they trade up, I think Howie Roseman will be content to fill a glaring need at linebacker with the No. 21 pick and then wait to add help at receiver.Tee Higgins over 34.5 (-110)The first-round luster has worn off of Higgins. He doesn't have great speed and teams are worried about his ability to separate from NFL corners. In a deep receiver class he's a step down from the big four - Lamb, Jeudy, Ruggs, Justin Jefferson - and has likely been passed on most teams' rankings by the likes of Denzel Mims, Brandon Aiyuk, and Jalen Reagor.Don't expect his name to be called tonight. The best part of this prop is it gives you skin in the first two picks of Round 2.Grant Delpit not to be drafted in Round 1 (-170)Teams aren't as high on the LSU product and there's not a big demand at safety in this draft. Xavier McKinney will almost assuredly be the first safety off the board, and very likely the only one in Round 1. Beyond McKinney, there's buzz that Antoine Winfield Jr. is well-liked in league circles. If a second safety does get drafted tonight, it won't be Delpit.Derrick Brown picked 3rd overall (+550)There's no doubt the Detroit Lions will be trying to trade down from the third spot, but I think rumors that they'll succeed are still a lot of smoke. If they stand pat, it's worth a shot on them grabbing Brown over Jeffrey Okudah, filling a big need on that defensive front while waiting on a deep cornerback class.Jake Fromm over 61.5 (-130)I already discussed the soft quarterback market; now, how about the fact that Fromm absolutely bombed at the combine and had a miserable senior season? He projects as a career backup, and teams aren't spending a second-round pick on a guy like that. Love, Jacob Eason, and Jalen Hurts will all be off the board before Fromm goes sometime in the third or fourth round.Over 6.5 OL drafted Round 1 (-180)There will be four offensive linemen off the board in the first 14 picks for sure. Beyond those four, you have Jackson, Cesar Ruiz, Ezra Cleveland, Isaiah Wilson, and Josh Jones getting Round 1 buzz. There is going to be a massive run tonight, and even with this line moving to 6.5 with heavy juice to the over, it's still worth betting.*Terms and conditions apply. theScore is offering fans the chance to win $5,000 USD with our Top 10 Draft Contest!* Correctly predict the first 10 draft picks in the order they're called to win.The GOAT got lost.New Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady accidentally trespassed into a Tampa resident's home on April 7, thinking it was the house of his new offensive coordinator, Byron Leftwich, according to TMZ Sports."Holy f------ shit! Tom Brady is in my f------ house," described David Kramer, a next-door neighbor of Leftwich.Brady was stopping by to pick up materials from his new coordinator. In his defense, the houses do look quite similar.TMZ Sports"I literally was just sitting here and I watch this tall guy just walk into my house," Kramer said. ... "He didn't even look at me. He just like dropped his duffel bags down on the floor and just kind of like looked up at me and I'll never forget the look on his face."He just goes, 'Am I in the wrong house?!"For any "Seinfeld" fan, there's irony in a man named Kramer having someone barge in through his door. However, Brady was very apologetic about the whole situation."He was like, 'I am so sorry. I am so sorry.'" Kramer said. "Grabs his bags and just is gone. I don't think I've seen someone leave a house faster."It appears Brady is still adjusting to his new surroundings. He was also spotted working out in a park in Tampa earlier this week despite coronavirus-related restrictions.Terms and conditions apply. theScore is offering fans the chance to win $5,000 USD with our Top 10 Draft Contest!* Correctly predict the first 10 draft picks in the order they're called to win.The New England Patriots are signing free-agent wide receiver Marqise Lee to a one-year contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Financial details of the deal are currently unknown.Lee spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the team waived him Monday. The 28-year-old missed the entire 2018 campaign with a torn ACL and was limited to six games last season, catching three passes for 18 yards.Lee was selected by the Jags in the second round of the 2014 draft following a decorated career at USC, during which he won the Biletnikoff Award in 2012 as the nation's top receiver. He then enjoyed productive campaigns in 2016 and 2017, recording a combined 119 receptions for 1,553 yards and six touchdowns in 30 games before injuries struck.Whom Lee will catch passes from in New England is unclear after Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency. 2019 fourth-rounder Jarrett Stidham and veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer are expected to duel for the starting gig, but the Pats could add a signal-caller through the draft. Cam Newton also remains a free agent.Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry, and Mohamed Sanu are currently at the top of New England's wide receiver depth chart.Terms and conditions apply. theScore is offering fans the chance to win $5,000 USD with our Top 10 Draft Contest!* Correctly predict the first 10 draft picks in the order they're called to win.Mitchell Wilcox made a name for himself at the NFL Scouting Combine back in February, though it wasn't for a reason he had wanted. Wilcox, a South Florida tight end, took a hard spiral off his face during the gauntlet drill. As one might expect, the clip went viral, and the moment affected his combine performance."It wasn't a good day for me," Wilcox told me.Still, he had an opportunity to try to make things right in advance of this weekend's NFL draft, with South Florida's pro day scheduled for March 30. But then much of the country was locked down because of the coronavirus pandemic. That was the end of that.“With the combine going how it went, I was really banking on having a killer pro day," Wilcox said. "But that didn't get to happen."The predraft routine typically runs well into the spring. Pro days, team visits, and private workouts are often the best chances for players who aren't projected to be top picks to show scouts, coaches, and personnel executives what they can do and who they are - to prove something more than what's on the game tape. With that part of the process wiped out, the players on the fringe of getting drafted have to get creative.South Florida tight end Mitchell Wilcox. Joe Robbins / Getty ImagesFor Wilcox, who is projected to be a Day 3 selection (Rounds 4 through 7), that meant putting together a virtual pro day video for teams that included do-overs of three combine drills he wanted to improve upon. For Georgia wideout Tyler Simmons, that meant joining UGA quarterback Jake Fromm - a projected second or third-rounder - for his pro day video.Brian McLaughlin, the agent who represents both Wilcox and Simmons, still had to take things a step further; he had to figure out a way to present teams with information they could trust.“That’s the biggest thing, is that teams are like, 'Look, we can look at the video and probably tell, but unless we're actually there, we don’t trust the times,'" McLaughlin told me.McLaughlin's solution was to hire an ex-NFL scout with some credibility in scouting circles to be on hand to document and vouch for the virtual pro day performances.Every bit of information a team can gather can be a valuable part of a predraft evaluation. Dan Hatman, the director of scouting development at The Scouting Academy and a former scout for the Eagles, Jets, and Giants, told me pro days provide an opportunity to gauge a player's athleticism, or to see how he might do in scout- or team-specific drills or routes. They can also allow teams to judge whether a position switch might be possible. An impressive pro day performance can compel scouts to go back and re-examine a player's tape."Now, a lot of that's missing," Hatman said.Joe Robbins / Getty ImagesLate-round prospects and non-combine invitees with medical issues are also at a disadvantage. As noted by Kalyn Kahler in Sports Illustrated, "Most teams want to have their team doctor examine a player in person before they decide to use a draft pick on him. That could prove particularly challenging this draft season. Teams may have to rely on college medical staff to send medical records, reports, and scans, but it's not the same as a team's own doctor writing up his own report."Of course, there are workarounds for teams, too. Scouts might tap into their own network of sources to verify a virtual 40-yard dash time. Some schools might have GPS data on players, so it could be worth seeing if the school is willing to fork some of that intel over."You're getting creative with reaching out and trying to fill in gaps," Hatman said. Both Wilcox and Simmons told me they've had multiple conversations via video platforms with numerous teams as draft weekend nears. These convos can range from quick check-ins to verify their mobile phone numbers along with perfunctory questions about injuries, off-field problems, or how they're staying in shape to more detailed, football-specific discussions. One of the most difficult hurdles for players is finding ways to work out. Social distancing is mandatory in many states, with most parks and gyms off-limits. Wilcox eventually found a private facility where he can work out near his home just outside Tampa, and he and South Florida QB Blake Barnett have teamed up to throw passes in an open field.Simmons works out with a trainer at a park near his hometown of Mableton, Georgia, though time is often limited because people frequent the park on walks. A friend of Simmons' father also has a private gym, so Simmons has been able to go there to do his weightlifting."It's been a little hectic," said Simmons, a projected sixth- or seventh-round pick who did not get a combine invite. "But we've found ways around it."Georgia wide receiver Tyler Simmons. Todd Kirkland / Getty ImagesHatman said short-circuiting the chance to gather intel on fringe players late in the process might cause teams to be somewhat risk-averse in the late rounds."We don’t change the eval; we're trying to look at the same things, we're trying to quantify the same things," Hatman said. "But when you don't have all the pieces to the puzzle, now there's a second conversation: With what I learned about this human being, what's that worth?"This could mean using a pick on a player with athletic upside rather than picking a special-teamer or a positional tweener, who a team might instead pursue as an undrafted free agent immediately after the draft ends.Though there's been some concern about the shortened draft process forcing clubs to make more mistakes, Hatman said some teams will be better prepared than others."If you built your entire scouting staff with the idea that everybody on staff is valuable through the entirety of the process, I think you're going to be OK," he said. "I think if you built your staff by saying, 'Just collect the stuff and get it into our hands by that December-January window and then we'll let our coaches and our execs smooth it out in the spring,' you're hurting. You're probably not feeling real confident right now."For players like Wilcox and Simmons, there's little left to do except to wait to see if their name is called this weekend, or if their phone rings after the draft with free-agent offers. Wilcox at least got to do something to make up for his combine disappointment: During his mock pro day, he redid his 40-yard dash, his shuttle drill, and his three-cone drill."And all those times were better than what I did at the combine," he said. "So that was a small victory."Dom Cosentino is a senior features writer at theScore.*Terms and conditions apply.
