The controversial outcome of January's NFC Championship Game is getting the film treatment."Get the Ref!" - a feature-length comedy about the missed pass-interference call in the New Orleans Saints' loss to the Los Angeles Rams - is in development by Prior Military Productions, according to Mike Scott of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.The Hollywood-based company said in a news release that Ed Helms is in talks to star in the lead role, with Danny DeVito set to play "a Cajun sheriff." The company also plans to have former and current NFL players appear in the film and hopes to convince commissioner Roger Goodell to make a cameo. The script was written by a U.S. military veteran and centers around a group of fans who set out to get revenge on the official who missed the call and ultimately cost the Saints a trip to Super Bowl LIII. Producers are aiming to have the film released as early as Thanksgiving 2019."It's all in good humor," Prior Military Productions president Joanne Busch said in the news release. The missed call sparked plenty of backlash against the NFL in the form of petitions, billboards, and lawsuits. The NFL's president of football operations, Troy Vincent, announced earlier in March that the league will consider adding a video official to crews in order to correct egregious mistakes.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL has suspended Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt eight games for violating the league's personal conduct policy. In a statement, the league announced it had banned Hunt for his actions in two separate events. The first stemmed from an incident where he pushed and kicked a woman in a Cleveland hotel in February 2018, and the second from an altercation at an Ohio resort last June."I want to again apologize for my actions last year," Hunt said. "I know that my behavior hurt a lot of people, and I again apologize to them. I respect the league’s decision on discipline, and I appreciate the time I spent with Commissioner Goodell last week. I'm grateful for my time with the Browns over the last month and thankful to all the people in the organization that have welcomed me. I also appreciate all of the support I received from my union through this process. My commitment to earning the trust of the league, my teammates, the organization and this community through my actions will continue, and I understand there is a lot of hard work ahead of me before I’m able to fully return to playing the game I love."The running back was released by the Kansas City Chiefs in December after the 2018 video surfaced revealing his altercation with the woman. He signed with the Browns in February despite the team knowing a lengthy ban was forthcoming.Hunt's agency announced the 23-year-old would not appeal his suspension. He'll forfeit $303,529 of his $645,000 base salary with the Browns, according to ESPN's Field Yates, with a chance to earn $200,000 in roster bonuses upon his return. The ball carrier will then be a restricted free agent in 2020.A versatile running back, Hunt rushed for 2,151 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 79 catches for 833 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns in two seasons with Kansas City.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Landon Collins grew up idolizing Sean Taylor, and he could get a chance to honor him with the Washington Redskins.Collins, who signed a reported six-year, $84-million contract as a free agent, wore No. 21 with the New York Giants. The safety said he'd love to continue wearing the number if the team and Taylor's family approve."It would be an honor if the family would allow me to (wear No. 21)," Collins said, according NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "I hope, I hope, that's big shoes to fill."Taylor was killed in November 2007 at just 24 years old. No Redskin has worn No. 21 since. After officially signing with Washington, Collins was presented a signed Taylor jersey by team owner Dan Snyder.

Winning in March doesn't necessarily correlate to winning in September, but it's hard not to feel optimistic after a triumphant free agency. These five teams emerged from the opening stages of free agency with the most improved rosters - at least on paper:Oakland RaidersThe Raiders made splashes early and often, ensuring their final season in Oakland will be one to remember. Head coach Jon Gruden and new general manager Mike Mayock teamed up to land Antonio Brown, arguably the best receiver in football, and only surrendered a pair of mid-round draft picks to do so. Le'Veon Bell has finally put pen to paper on a contract that will allow the two-time All-Pro running back to return to football with the New York Jets.Speaking on a conference call with Jets media on Thursday night, Bell insisted he has no regrets about his oft-criticized decision to sit out the entire 2018 season rather than sign a second consecutive one-year franchise tag with the Pittsburgh Steelers."I think the decision I made was (one) I'd do all over again. I don't regret anything that happened. Who can say what would happen? If I go out and play on a one-year franchise tag, if I get hurt would I be in this position today?" Bell said, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY."The fact that I took last year off, it sucked having to watch football, but at the same time in December and January, it was the best my body felt in my entire life," he added. With the freedom to sign with the team of his choosing, Bell said everything seemed to line up for a move to New York."When the season ended, the stars kind of aligned for the Jets. It was my favorite team growing up. They needed an RB. Everyone was talking about it. In my head, that's where I wanted to go," he said.Hoping to allay concerns about his playing shape, the 6-foot-1, 225-pounder said he's been working out five days a week since December and expects to be in football shape for OTAs.The addition of Bell should bolster a Jets running game that finished 26th in 2018, and it's expected to do wonders for franchise quarterback Sam Darnold."I'm looking forward to being ... his security blanket," Bell said, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Anthony Barr had a change of heart. The four-time Pro Bowl linebacker agreed Monday to sign with the New York Jets after spending the first five years of his career in Minnesota. By Tuesday, he had backed out of the deal to return to the Vikings."Crazy couple of days for me. Crazy year, really," Barr said at a Thursday press conference."Monday was one of the worst days of my life," he continued. "It was a crazy day."I just followed my heart. I did what I wanted to do at the end of the day and I'm happy with it. I feel so much better than I did 48, 72 hours ago."The 26-year-old said the "terrible" free-agent process was filled with drama. He gave his agent the OK to sign with the Jets but immediately felt poorly about the decision to leave Minnesota."This is where I want to be. This is my home," he explained. "It just felt right. This is where my heart was, this is where it's always been, and this is where it always will be."Barr's uncertainty and eventual decision to stay with the Vikings occurred during the NFL's two-day negotiating period when teams are permitted to contact potential free agents through their agents. The veteran signed a four-year contract worth $37.5 million with $23 million fully guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Giants secured the 30-year-old's services one day after they officially traded Beckham to the Cleveland Browns.Giants general manager Dave Gettleman assured fans after trading Beckham, a prolific pass-catcher in the prime of his career, that the club was still determined to field a winning team in 2019."You can win while you build a roster," he said. "We do have a plan, and this is a part of it."Tate comes to New York as one of the best possession receivers in the NFL. He was widely viewed as the top player at his position available in free agency. The Notre Dame product posted 795 yards and four touchdowns last season, though he was on pace to eclipse 1,000 yards before the Detroit Lions shipped him to the Philadelphia Eagles at the trade deadline. He'll lead a Giants receiving core that also includes slot man Sterling Shepard and tight end Evan Engram.Tate has split his nine-year career between the Eagles, Lions, and Seattle Seahawks.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. Despite watching Joe Flacco get benched in 2018, Denver Broncos general manager John Elway believes the 34-year-old quarterback still has plenty left in the tank. With Denver's trade for the longtime Baltimore Ravens pivot finally official, Elway offered insight into why the veteran passer was targeted."We really feel like Joe has a lot of football left in him," Elway told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "(Former Broncos coach) Gary (Kubiak) was with him three or four years in Baltimore in his system and was very successful with that. So we thought that with the availability and what the compensation was (a 2019 fourth-round pick), that Joe was going to be a very good fit for us."He's played under the center, his arm strength is still great, he can still throw the ball downfield, a he's a guy who's won," Elway continued. David Njoku doesn't believe the new-look Cleveland Browns can be stopped in 2019.The tight end appeared on NFL Network Wednesday and reacted to his team's blockbuster trade for star receiver Odell Beckham Jr."This is huge for me, really," Njoku said, via NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "Because we have so much talent on offense, defenses won't know how to handle us. We're just so versatile. You can have me out wide. You can have Odell, Jarvis (Landry), (Rashard) Higgins, everybody, the running backs in the slot, out wide, everywhere. Though there appears to be many mouths to feed, the second-year player doesn't foresee an issue on the field."It's competition," Njoku said. "Whoever's open gets the ball. We're a team, so we've got to see it as such. But at the end of the day, we've got to compete."Really the most important thing is to really ignore the noise," he continued. The beginning of the NFL's new league year once again featured blockbuster trades and splashy signings. After sorting through all the madness leading up to and through the official start of free agency Wednesday afternoon, theScore's football staff teamed up to identify a few winners and losers.Winner: Player leverageEarly talk of Antonio Brown wanting out of Pittsburgh was largely dismissed. Trading a player of his caliber is typically a nonstarter, and any deal was going to leave the Steelers with $21 million in dead money against the cap.More importantly, this is the NFL, a league with minimally guaranteed deals designed to hold players hostage. Forcing trades is nearly impossible. Or so we thought. To make it happen, Brown went on a mission. He took any and all public opportunities to put the Steelers and their star quarterback on blast. Making the relationship seem unsalvageable and voicing his desire for a new contract likely ended the team's chances of getting anything substantial in return.Brown eventually got his way in a trade to the Raiders, which returned a third- and a fifth-round pick to Pittsburgh and once again made him the NFL's highest-paid receiver. It was the ultimate power move, as Brown exercised the kind of player leverage typically only seen in the NBA.Do other NFL stars now have a road map for getting out of similarly contentious situations? - Dan WilkinsLoser: Dave GettlemanGettleman has the once-historic Giants franchise destined for the NFL's basement. The general manager let Landon Collins, his best defensive player, walk in free agency. Then he dealt Olivier Vernon, his top pass-rusher, and inexplicably received pennies on the dollar in return for Odell Beckham Jr.Instead of keeping those core pieces, he decided to retain over-the-hill quarterback Eli Manning and sign aging veteran Antoine Bethea. Gettleman did add Kevin Zeitler and Jabrill Peppers to the mix, but his team lacks long-term direction and any offensive firepower beyond Saquon Barkley.Beckham may have been deemed a headache, but the Browns didn't give up nearly enough for a top-three receiver. Giants fans won't trust Gettleman's word moving forward. - Mike AlessandriniWinner: BrownsA trifecta of marquee acquisitions has the long-suffering Browns primed to claim AFC North supremacy in the near future - possibly even in 2019.Beckham should help accelerate the development of quarterback Baker Mayfield, who finished his 2018 rookie campaign on a torrid pace. On the other side of the ball, Vernon and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson give Cleveland a scary front four.Better yet, the Steelers spent the early portion of free agency self-destructing, while the Cincinnati Bengals did nothing of significance, leaving the Baltimore Ravens as the only threatening team in the division. - Alex ChippinLoser: JaguarsOne way or another, the Jaguars were going to get a quarterback this offseason, as the time had come to move on from the Blake Bortles mistake. However, it's tough to get on board with going all-in on Nick Foles.Jacksonville was faced with the prospect of a significant dead-money hit for cutting Bortles. So, the team made a series of cuts (Malik Jackson, Tashaun Gipson, Carlos Hyde, Jermey Pernell) to create cap space. The Jaguars then blew the majority of that space on Foles with a four-year, $88-million deal, even though no other team was seriously linked to the pivot. When Foles proves to be little more than a replacement-level quarterback who benefited from a tremendous situation in Philadelphia, Tom Coughlin and Co. will wish they'd saved that money and waited for the draft. - Dan WilkinsWinner: Aaron RodgersAfter forcing their quarterback to carry the franchise for years, the Green Bay Packers finally gave Rodgers some help through free agency. The Packers inked a trio of defensive stalwarts - safety Adrian Amos and edge defenders Za'Darius Smith and Preston Smith - to shore up an inconsistent unit and take pressure off Rodgers as the two-time MVP approaches the twilight of his career. A functional defense, coupled with a more creative offense under new head coach Matt LaFleur, should lead Green Bay back into contention in the NFC next season. - Alex ChippinLoser: SteelersThe Steelers saw two generational offensive talents leave in the span of four days. The front office and die-hard fans can try to justify losing All-Pros Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell, but it's tough to envision a better short-term future without them.Take into account the return for both players (one third-round pick, one fifth-round pick, and potentially a compensatory pick for Bell), the offensive machine the Cleveland Browns are assembling within the division, and the additions of Earl Thomas and Mark Ingram to the hated Baltimore Ravens - indeed, the Steel City had a truly awful week. - Michael McClymontWinner: Derek CarrIs Derek Carr the Raiders' long-term answer under center? That question will likely be the defining storyline of the team's 2019 season, and head coach Jon Gruden made sure his quarterback won't have any excuses.Carr will now be throwing to a superstar in Antonio Brown and a great second option in Tyrell Williams. Trent Brown, and not the raw Kolton Miller, will be protecting his blind side. The sixth-year passer has already been mentioned in trade rumors this offseason, and even if those whispers are unfounded, 2019 is the last season in his deal that contains significant guaranteed money. It's a true make-or-break year for Carr, but he likely couldn't have dreamed up a more perfect free-agency period ahead of the campaign. - Jack BrowneLoser: ColtsThis was meant to be the year the Indianapolis Colts would capitalize on their enviable $100-plus-million in cap space and splash cash all over the free-agent market. Instead, it's been all quiet in Indy. The Colts stayed out of the Le'Veon Bell sweepstakes, ignored the talented pass-rush and safety markets, and have only signed breakout corner Pierre Desir and wideout Devin Funchess to date. Perhaps general manager Chris Ballard deserves the benefit of the doubt as a result of his proven track record of building through the draft, but the foundation is set. It's time to start decorating. - Michael McClymontWinner: SafetiesA year after safeties Kenny Vaccaro, Tre Boston, Mike Mitchell, and Eric Reid all had to wait well past the start of free agency before signing one-year, $1.5-million-or-less deals, the 2019 frenzy opened with Landon Collins landing a six-year, $84-million contract from the Washington Redskins. Meanwhile, Adrian Amos and Earl Thomas both signed four-year agreements for $37 million and $55 million, respectively. And Tyrann Mathieu, a season after his one-year prove-it deal, inked a three-year, $42-million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.Although we can only speculate about why the safety market is suddenly prospering, it may be related to NFL defenses allowing 6,867 more yards and 106 more touchdowns through the air last season than in 2017. - Karan GillCopyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. George R.R. Martin is experiencing what he calls a "Big Blue nightmare" following the New York Giants' decision to trade star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. The "Game of Thrones" author and Giants fan shared his thoughts on the trade in a blog post on his website titled "Kill Me Now.""I've been watching and rooting for the G-Men since 'the Greatest Game Ever Played' in 1958," Martin wrote."Beckham was not only the best receiver on today's Giants, but he was the best receiver this storied NFL franchise has EVER had in their long history, and probably the best receiver they will ever have. They are certainly not going to replace him with the 17th overall pick in the forthcoming draft."Martin also took issue with the Giants trading defensive tackle Damon Harrison during the 2018 season, allowing safety Landon Collins to walk away in free agency this winter, and shipping pass-rusher Olivier Vernon off to the Browns with Beckham."No way that any team can replace its best wideout, its best pass-rusher, its best safety, and its best run-stuffer in one year, two years, three years," he wrote. "I thought the last two seasons were rough for Giants fans. Next year is going to make them look like the good old days."Someone pinch me. I am having a Big Blue nightmare."Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Antonio Brown has big plans with the Oakland Raiders.During his introductory press conference on Wednesday, the star wide receiver expressed excitement for a fresh start and said his personal goal is to break the NFL's record for career catches."My goal really is to catch Jerry Rice," Brown said, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "Playing with a guy like coach (Jon) Gruden, obviously, he knows what it takes to keep me upright and fresh. Keep me out there for a long time so it's a challenge every year to prove my love for the game. I'm just taking it one year at a time."Obviously, my goal in the back of my mind is to catch Jerry Rice. Every year, I have to prove my love. This year I'm out here to prove my love."Brown, who was officially acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday, currently sits 28th on the NFL's all-time receptions list with 837, but is still 712 shy of Rice's 1,549.The 30-year-old Brown added that he's eager to be a vocal leader on his new squad."My plan is to get around here, get in the room, start holding guys accountable, let them know it's a certain type of standard here now that we got to uphold," he said. "Receivers, we need an accountability system - drops, (being) late, fines, missed routes, missed sights. We're going to hold each other accountable; and if you don't fall in that accountability, you get fined."And so when (quarterback) Derek Carr walks in the room, he sees all the receivers - this guy owes this, this guy owes this - so everyone has that accountability factor. Because if everyone's held accountable, we've got to be at a certain standard. So I'm just here to set certain standards, hold guys accountable, and just uplift the tradition of - it's unacceptable to accept not our best."Brown, a four-time first-team All-Pro selection, averaged 114 catches and 1,524 yards over the last six seasons. No receiver in Raiders history has reached either of those marks in a single campaign.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Jacksonville Jaguars paid top dollar to answer their questions at quarterback.Jacksonville officially announced on Wednesday the free-agent signing of former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles to a four-year, $88-million contract with $50 million in guarantees. While some have questioned whether the Jaguars were the only bidder at the table for Foles' services, head coach Doug Marrone highlighted the significance of bringing aboard a proven winner."When you make moves like that at the quarterback position, it gives the team a chance," Marrone said Wednesday, according to Jaguars.com's John Oehser. "You have someone that has the experience, someone that has leadership, someone that really has proven to some extent that he has done it on the big stage and can handle that."Foles takes over the starting quarterback role from Blake Bortles, who was released Wednesday evening.Although Foles is a 30-year-old quarterback on the back half of his career, it seems the Jaguars have no qualms about handing him the keys to the franchise."We really think his best days are ahead of him," Marrone said. The start of NFL free agency has not disappointed this year.Along with numerous players signing lucrative deals, we've already seen a fair share of blockbuster trades. Overall, the frenzy's offered bettors the opportunity to gauge how players on new teams will perform in 2019.Here are our five favorite wagers to consider:Devin Funchess (Colts) over 650.5 receiving yards (-115) and over 4.5 touchdowns (-130)There were some mixed reviews on the Indianapolis Colts' one-year, $13-million deal for Funchess, who totaled more than 550 receiving yards just once in four seasons with the Carolina Panthers. But in reality, this was a low-risk move for the cap-laden Colts, as they landed a 24-year-old receiver who can play opposite T.Y. Hilton.Funchess broke out in 2017 with 63 catches on 111 targets, 840 yards, and eight touchdowns - all career highs. He looked to be taking another step forward last year, but the Panthers' late-season spiral put a damper on the receiver's production. His first half compared to his second was night and day:First 8 gamesFinal 8 games36 catches-445 yards-3 TDs8 catches-104 yards-1 TDHilton will still be the WR1, but Colts quarterback Andrew Luck loves his secondary outlets. He turned tight end Jack Doyle into a weapon in 2016, rejuvenated Eric Ebron last season, and also targeted Chester Rogers 72 times in 2018. That's been the theme for Indianapolis' offense, which often relies on Hilton and a bunch of spare parts.Funchess doesn't figure to be a world-beater with the Colts, but he'll have all sorts of opportunities to make an impact and eclipse the totals.Nick Foles (Jaguars) over 12.5 interceptions (-115)Interceptions are somewhat volatile, especially with any quarterback on a new team alongside new players. But advanced metrics can help us identify which pivots are riskier than others, and Foles isn't exactly the conservative player he might appear to be. While he threw just two INTs over the course of seven games in 2017 and only three more in five contests last year, Foles actually tossed seven interceptable passes in '17 and five in '18. Whether it was luck or great chemistry with his receivers, Foles was fortunate to keep his interception count down. We think he'll surpass the listed number over a full 16 games.Odell Beckham Jr. (Browns) Over 1,100 receiving yards (-115)Beckham's projected for 89.5 catches and 1,100 yards, implying he'd be good for around 12.3 yards per catch - down from his career average of 14. But we don't think the newly acquired wide receiver is going to be used as a possession receiver in the Browns' offense, considering the team already has one of those in the form of Jarvis Landry.Meanwhile, quarterback Baker Mayfield averaged 8.8 yards per attempt under head coach Freddie Kitchens, which was a huge bump from the 6.6 per attempt he averaged during the first half of the season. Add in former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken as OC, and you'll see plenty of downfield shots in Cleveland, with Beckham as a staple in that department.John Brown (Bills) over 625.5 receiving yards (-115)Brown was an odd fit with the Baltimore Ravens. He served as a field-stretcher for a conservative Joe Flacco and then saw limited opportunities in a run-heavy scheme with rookie Lamar Jackson under center. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen likely needs a young receiver from the upcoming draft to grow with, but the addition of Brown is a nice start. Allen ranked No. 13 in the NFL in deep-pass attempts last season, while Brown averaged a whopping 17 yards per catch. The two should excel together in the foreseeable future.Alex Kolodziej is theScore's betting writer.
