The Super Bowl LII champion Philadelphia Eagles reportedly won't be fielding their full roster for the start of the 2018 season, as wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is expected to miss at least the first two games, league and team sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.Jeffery will be activated to the 53-man roster this weekend, with the team optimistic he'll be ready for Week 3, Schefter and Mortensen add. Removing the wideout from the preseason physically unable to perform (PUP) list will allow him to work with the team on the field. The 28-year-old underwent shoulder surgery in February, and doctors believe it's in his best interest to sit out the first two weeks to maintain the progress he's made in rehab. A stint on the regular-season PUP list is believed to be unnecessary.Jeffery caught 57 of 120 targets for 789 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season with the Eagles in 2017.Philadelphia opens the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Although Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin is expected to play Week 1, don't expect him to be at full strength all year.Baldwin revealed Tuesday that his knee hasn't fully healed and fears the injury could linger entering his eighth season."I’m probably 80-85 percent right now,†Baldwin said via The News Tribune. "Truth of the matter is, I won't be 100 percent. It’s something I’ve got to deal with the rest of the season."Baldwin has long served as the anchor of the Seahawks' wide receiver corps. He recorded 75 receptions for 991 yards and eight touchdowns in 16 games during the 2017 season, earning his second consecutive Pro Bowl selection. The 29-year-old participated in practice Monday and has resumed running again. In the event Baldwin misses any time, it would be a significant loss for the Seahawks' offense. Tyler Lockett and Brandon Marshall would be poised to see more snaps.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell apparently won't be missing any of the regular season after all.Bell has told some teammates that he'll be reporting to practice on Labor Day Monday, sources told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac. The Steelers are expecting Bell to be at Monday's practice, Dulac adds.Bell missed all of the Steelers' training camp for the second year in a row after being signed to a second consecutive franchise tag, valued at $14.5 million for the 2018 season. The star rusher reported to the team just in time for the 2017 season and played last year on a $12.1-million tag. He went on to rank third in the league in rushing yards (1,291) and tied for third in rushing touchdowns (9). He added 85 receptions for 655 yards and two more scores while playing 15 games. The three-time Pro Bowler said in March that he wouldn't miss any of the regular season, even though he planned on missing training camp if not given a long-term deal. The Steelers open the 2018 regular season Sept. 9 against the Cleveland Browns.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Former Michigan quarterback Brian Griese's first impression of Tom Brady turned out to be quite inaccurate.Appearing on Monday's episode of "The Adam Schefter Podcast," Griese admitted he and his Wolverines teammates thought Brady would be a "chill, laid back kind of guy" after meeting him for the first time."When I first met Tommy, he had long hair down to his shoulders and he had just come from California," Griese, who spent two seasons with Brady at Michigan, said. "All of us in the locker room thought he was a going to be this surfer dude."Brady quickly proved them wrong, though."He would take the script, he and Scot Loeffler, and they would run through the entire practice together, the two of them," Griese said. "Tommy would grab a couple freshmen receivers and they would go through every play and every adjustment, every blitz. They'd be out there for an hour after everybody else was gone off the field."I had gone in and taken a shower and done a couple of interviews. I’m leaving, and there's Tommy out on the field running through the whole script. There was no question in anybody's mind, I don't think, pretty early on that Tommy was going to be a success."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Cincinnati Bengals were busy addressing their defensive front on Tuesday.Defensive tackle Geno Atkins signed a four-year contract extension, the team announced. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the deal is worth $65.3 million. The 30-year-old is a six-time Pro Bowler with two All-Pro nods. He was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Bengals and has 61 career sacks with eight forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was rewarded with a three-year extension, according to the team. His deal is worth $45 million, a source told Schefter. Dunlap has been named to two Pro Bowls through his first eight NFL seasons. He has 64.5 sacks, eight fumble recoveries, and two interceptions since being chosen with the 54th overall pick of the 2010 draft."Geno and Carlos have worked hard to improve each season, and we’re expecting 2018 to be their best seasons yet," said head coach Marvin Lewis. "We have worked diligently to develop and retain talent over the years, and these contracts keep two of our best players with us for the foreseeable future."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New York Giants finally backed up the Brinks truck for Odell Beckham Jr. on Monday, making him the league's highest-paid receiver on a five-year extension. With the lengthy contract standoff in the rear-view mirror, the superstar is now focused on etching his name into the NFL's history books."I want to be legendary," Beckham said Tuesday, according to SNY's Danny Abriano. "My goal has always been to be in the Hall of Fame, to win trophies, to leave a legacy way beyond any money that you make."Beckham is already on his way to doing just that. Beyond his iconic one-handed catches, the receiver has put up record production over his first four seasons in the league. He was the fastest player in NFL history to 100, 150, 200, and 250 catches, and only Lance Alworth hit 4,000 receiving yards in as many games (48).Despite his eye-popping production, re-signing with New York was never a certainty.Beckham was the subject of trade speculation earlier in the offseason, with the Giants reportedly eager to see how well he reacted to head coach Pat Shurmur's new regime. But co-owner John Mara insisted Tuesday that Beckham was never going anywhere."I would say there was a very very small chance that was not even worth losing sleep over," Mara said. "We wanted him on the team. I think he knew that. We made that pretty clear to him."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is apparently taking gamesmanship to new heights heading into the 2018 season.Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Pederson revealed he would make the decision on the team's Week 1 starting quarterback Friday, but indicated he won't make his choice public until "90 minutes before kickoff," per NJ.com's Zack Rosenblatt."This is still preseason and we're giving all of our quarterbacks reps at this time," Pederson said. "Obviously when you get into the regular season and you start game-planning you want whoever that gentleman is going to be to get that full complement of reps."Just nine days before Philadelphia's season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, Pederson's timeline places starting quarterback Carson Wentz in a race against the clock to be medically cleared from his torn left ACL.Pederson announced Tuesday that Wentz has yet to be cleared for contact. He and Nick Foles have been splitting first-team reps in recent practices, where the coach has seen noticeable improvement from his star passer."(Wentz's) arm was live and he was throwing some nice throws, really strong," Pederson said. "When he came back into 11 on 11s, one of the noticeable changes was his lower-body strength and how well he's progressed through his rehab and conditioning."If Wentz is not cleared by the end of the week, Foles will be the Eagles' starter against the Falcons. Jerry Jones is among those who've seen enough of subpar preseason football. The Dallas Cowboys owner said Tuesday on 105.3 The FAN that he remains in favor of implementing an 18-game regular season and cutting the preseason in half, arguing "it's probably better physically for players" and that it would "create a safer game," according to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News."I was a big advocate in the last (collective bargaining) negotiation. I made the presentation,'' Jones said of his failed bid to convince the players. "You can see how I did.''Jones believes a longer regular season, fewer preseason contests, and a shortened training camp would not only protect the health of players, but also give them a bigger piece of the pie."I can make the case that we have an uptick in concussions in the preseason,'' he said. "If you look at it, I would contend there would be less exposure.""It would provide more than $1 billion to the players,'' Jones continued. "It's certainly worth considering. It would direct more value for what the players expend to the players.''Some teams have taken matters into their own hands this preseason. For example, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has kept his first-team offense on the sideline for every game, which star running back Todd Gurley called a "dream."The current collective bargaining agreement runs until 2020, meaning there will be at least two more years before Jones can try once again to implement his vision for a new-look NFL schedule.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Oakland Raiders' nightmare with holdout Khalil Mack will apparently extend into the regular season. The star defensive end and the Raiders have made no progress in contract negotiations, and Mack will likely now miss regular-season games as a result, a source told Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports.Another source added the situation has become a "pay him or trade him" conversation. The New York Jets are reportedly among more than a dozen teams who've inquired about a move for Mack. The 2016 Defensive Player of the Year is pushing to be the NFL's highest-paid defender (currently Von Miller is at just over $19 million per season), but Oakland hasn't engaged with its top pass-rusher in months, a source told Robinson. While head coach Jon Gruden hasn't been directly involved in talks with Mack, he will reportedly have final say over the player's fate.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Now that Odell Beckham Jr. got his, who's got next? The New York Giants receiver inked a five-year extension worth $95 million on Monday. The deal follows a busy offseason for wideouts. Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, Jarvis Landry, Stefon Diggs, Sammy Watkins, and Allen Robinson were all paid, handsomely.OBJ's deal is unlikely to be exceeded in the near future, but there are a handful of receivers with expiring contracts who could feel the residual effects. Here's who could be looking at a big payday in the future.Michael ThomasIt's likely Thomas will land the most money of any receiver still in line for a new contract. He's put together back-to-back campaigns of more than 1,100 receiving yards and finished third in the league in catches in 2017.Thomas has two seasons remaining on his rookie contract and the Saints can utilize the franchise tag to keep him in New Orleans longer.Unless his production falls off a cliff, Thomas will be a very rich pass-catcher in a few years.Amari CooperCooper was predestined for greatness at the pro ranks, but after two 1,000-yard seasons to start his career, he finished with just 680 yards in 2017.Cooper and the Raiders are poised for a bounce back this year. The offensive coaching staff has been overhauled and is now under the guidance of Jon Gruden. If Gruden can help Cooper and quarterback Derek Carr rediscover their magic, the 24-year-old receiver will be in line to earn much more than the $13.9 million on his fifth-year option for 2019.A.J. GreenOf the players on this list, Green is the only one to have made it to a second contract. He signed a $60-million extension with the Bengals in 2015, one that made him the highest-paid receiver in the game at the time. Now, he doesn't even rank in the top 10 (he's 11th).A.J. has two years - including the upcoming campaign - remaining on his contract. He's scheduled to hit free agency in 2020 when he'll be 32 years old.Though a perennial Pro Bowler, Green has yet to earn an All-Pro nod in his career. He's still putting up 1,000-yard seasons and the touchdowns to boot, but in order to gain another lucrative contract, he'll need to lead a turnaround of the Bengals after two consecutive losing seasons.Chris HoganContract negotiations have reportedly begun between Hogan and the Patriots.New England lured Hogan away from the Buffalo Bills in 2016. The 29-year-old has repaid the Pats by helping them to back-to-back Super Bowls.Previously the third or fourth option in the Patriots' passing attack, Hogan is set for an even bigger role in what happens to be his contract year. Julian Edelman is suspended for the first four games of the year, which makes Hogan the No. 1 receiver for the time being.Rob Gronkowski remains the focus of the passing offense, but if Hogan has another solid season, he'll likely break the bank.(Photos courtesy: Getty Images)Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden failed to provide a significant update on Khalil Mack's holdout Monday but did express his frustration over how negotiations have gone."I don't want to put a timetable on it," Gruden said, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic. "It's been a grueling process for both parties and the fans."The Raiders have reportedly not ruled out trading the All-Pro pass-rusher. More than a dozen teams, including the New York Jets, have apparently inquired about Mack's availability. The 2016 Defensive Player of the Year is believed to be seeking a deal that would make him the league's highest-paid defender. Fellow holdout Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams is likely also aiming for the same distinction, potentially complicating both negotiations.Mack has reportedly yet to receive an offer from Oakland since the start of the offseason, and if his holdout carries over into the regular season, he faces a weekly fine of $814,000.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Odell Beckham Jr. finally has his big payday. The New York Giants announced Monday that they agreed to a five-year contract extension with the star wide receiver. The deal is worth $95 million, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Beckham will reportedly average $20 million per season over the first three years of the deal, and his $65 million in guaranteed money is the most ever for a receiver.Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Antonio Brown previously topped the league at the position by earning an average annual value of $17 million. Beckham will average $18 million per season over the course of the entire deal, with another $5 million available in performance-based escalators, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.Beckham had made it known he desired an extension before the start of the season, but New York reportedly wanted to gauge his willingness to buy into new head coach Pat Shurmur's regime. The pass-catcher, unlike other stars like Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack, reported to training camp in an apparent gesture of goodwill to push negotiations forward. However, Beckham hasn't appeared in the preseason as he works his way back from an ankle injury that ended his 2017 campaign. The 25-year-old has been a revelation since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2014. He became the joint-fastest player to reach 4,000 career receiving yards in NFL history, and is the key to the Giants' offense alongside rookie running back Saquon Barkley.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Three weeks down, one to go.Some teams rested their starters, but most played their first team for an extended period as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. The result was the summer's most intriguing slate of games. Here are the biggest takeaways from all 16 contests:Browns 5, Eagles 0Nick Foles may have lost his magic. We know, preseason statistics don't mean a whole lot, but Foles was dreadful against the Cleveland Browns, throwing two interceptions and struggling under pressure. If star quarterback Carson Wentz isn't cleared for Week 1 - or suffers a setback during the year - the defending Super Bowl champions could have trouble replicating the offensive production from their 2018 playoff run. Hue Jackson has maintained all offseason that Tyrod Taylor will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. On Sunday, the head coach seemingly revealed the team's backup."I think that I already proved who that is. It is Baker (Mayfield)," Jackson said at his post-practice press conference Sunday.Jackson seemed to prove it with his actions on Thursday. When Taylor went down with a hand injury in the first quarter of the Browns' preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Mayfield was called into action."Baker is there. We have not played a regular-season game yet so we will see how that all unfolds. I feel good about the things that Baker went in and did in the game," Jackson said.Though it would seem obvious that the first overall pick in April's draft would hold at least a backup role going into the regular season, the Browns also have veteran Drew Stanton on the roster. Nonetheless, it appears Mayfield has done enough this preseason to rank No. 2 on the depth chart. However, Jackson seemingly attempted to walk back his announcement when asked if the final preseason game will have any bearing on the team's backup job."I pretty much have my mind made up on where that is. It's up to us to put all the pieces together."Hill has been dominant in the preseason, recording 14 receptions, 182 yards, and a touchdown in limited snaps through three games. He's coming off a season in which he recorded 75 catches for 1,183 yards and seven touchdowns."I feel like I'm the fastest - the best at my position," Hill added. "I do everything that I'm supposed to do as a route runner. I am the fastest."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Robert Griffin III's attempt to complete his NFL comeback will come down to his performance against the team his career famously started and fizzled with: the Washington Redskins.Griffin is looking to crack the Baltimore Ravens' roster as a third quarterback after being out of professional football last year. Despite a strong preseason, his work is still cut out for him considering the Ravens haven't kept three quarterbacks on their roster since 2009."There's no pressure," Griffin said of Thursday night's contest, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "I should say there is no pressure that I'm going to apply to myself to go out and perform like I have been and I know how, and the coaches have taught me within the system."I know the team we'll be facing is my former team that I played for and was drafted by. There will probably be a storyline around that. But aside from that, it's just go out, play ball and have fun, and continue to do what we've been doing, and let the coaches make the decisions at the end of the day."Griffin entered the league as the No. 2 overall pick of the Redskins in 2012. He was named Offensive Rookie of the Year after his first season, but his fallout with the team after that was far more memorable than his peak."Thursday's going to be big," Ravens coach John Harbaugh acknowledged. "It's going to be an opportunity once again for those guys. We'll find out who is going to be on our team."Harbaugh said Friday that the decision on Griffin will go down "right to the wire."In three preseason contests with Baltimore, Griffin has completed 20 of 30 passes for 185 yards with a touchdown and no turnovers. He's also flashed the escapability from the pocket that made him a star his maiden season in Washington. The Ravens already have two quarterbacks locked into roster spots, with Joe Flacco and first-round pick Lamar Jackson guaranteed to make the team.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso insisted Saturday he wasn't concussed when he was discovered standing with the wrong team."I kind of just went over there, and it was the wrong sideline," Alonso said postgame, via ESPN's Cameron Wolfe. "It happens."Alonso didn't seem to realize he was in the wrong place until Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh made him aware of it.

His numbers won't jump off the page, but Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is pleased with how he's performed in the preseason following a year-long layoff due to injury."Pass or fail? Pass," a jovial Luck responded Saturday when asked to grade his three-game exhibition showcase, according to ESPN's Mike Wells.Luck, who didn't play at all last year because of a laborious recovery from shoulder surgery, isn't expected to suit up for the Colts' preseason finale. He went 20-of-32 for 204 yards with one touchdown and one interception over his three August outings.Against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, the former No. 1 overall pick tossed for 90 yards on 8-for-10 passing with a touchdown."I feel great, my shoulder feels awesome, the best it's felt," Luck said. "I actually feel very good, strong, my shoulder felt alive. I was a little happier with where the ball went when I threw it. I keep feeling and seeing improvement. Keep working at it."Luck looked rusty at times throughout the first two preseason affairs, occasionally misfiring on a throw he normally makes with pinpoint accuracy. That was to be expected, though, and the 28-year-old looked more comfortable against the 49ers."Other than making sure he was good physically, I really didn't have very many questions," Colts head coach Frank Reich said of his franchise quarterback. "I think you guys know how I felt about this thing from the very beginning. I just had a lot of confidence in him and the people around him. The process that he's going through, seeing him work every day, seeing his attitude, really had not too many doubts."The Colts open the regular season Sept. 9 versus the Cincinnati Bengals.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Outspoken Jacksonville Jaguars corner Jalen Ramsey blames his teammate Marqise Lee's leg injury squarely on the NFL and its new helmet rule.Lee took a shot to the knee by Atlanta Falcons corner Damontae Kazee in Saturday's preseason game. Lee required the assistance of a cart to be taken off the field.Related: Jaguars' Lee carted off after taking scary shot to kneeRamsey argues that the new helmet rule, that penalizes players for leading with the crown of their helmets when making a tackle, led to the gruesome injury."You can't be mad at (Kazee). You have to be mad at the NFL; not mad at them, but that is how the rule is," Ramsey said, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco."People are scared to tackle normal because I guess they don't want to do helmet-to-helmet and get flagged. ... Game-changing stuff could happen. You don't really want to blame anyone, but you feel bad for him."An update on Lee's status was not available after the game.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Cleveland Browns announced Saturday that wide receiver Josh Gordon has been activated from the non-football injury list.Gordon will be promoted to the active roster and participate in all team activities, but the Browns are unsure whether he'll be cleared to play Week 1.The wideout temporarily left the team July 23, days before training camp opened, to focus on his "overall mental and physical health." He rejoined the team last week.Browns head coach Hue Jackson revealed Saturday that Gordon tweaked his hamstring, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, and won't play until the coach is convinced Gordon's "totally ready."The talented pass-catcher has missed all but 10 games over the previous four seasons due to suspensions related to substance abuse, but Cleveland is hopeful he can be cleared for their Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.Gordon led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards in 2013, his last full campaign with the team. He amassed 18 receptions, 335 receiving yards, and one touchdown in five games last season.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Veteran running back Adrian Peterson excited fans in his Washington Redskins debut Friday, accumulating 56 yards on 11 carries while displaying his violent running style against the Broncos.Redskins head coach Jay Gruden liked what he saw from the former All-Pro rusher."I saw a big guy running pretty hard, really," Gruden told reporters after the game, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "He had a five-yard average I believe, had a couple good bounces, and, you know, the thing I like about some of his runs is they look like they're like gains of ones and he'd fall forward for a gain of three. The first run of the day I thought it was a three-yard gain and he ends up second and three ... I was impressed with Adrian and the way he ran."Still, Gruden is undecided on whether to play Peterson in his team's fourth preseason contest versus the Ravens on Thursday."We'll see," he said. "I'm going to check out the tape and see how he's feeling body wise and we'll go from there. I think Samaje (Perine) should be OK by Thursday. We'll get some good looks at them and we've got some other guys to look at."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Get ready for your season with theScore's 2018 Fantasy Football Draft Kit.Every game night during the preseason, theScore's Justin Boone gets you caught up on the most important fantasy performances from around the league.Freeman clears the path in DenverFor the third straight preseason game, Devontae Booker got the "start" in the Broncos' backfield, but he immediately ran into the back of the line for a one-yard gain.Royce Freeman came in a few plays later and made a convincing case for why he should be the early-down back, with a 24-yard scamper to the end zone. The rookie has run aggressively in August, breaking tackles at every level. He's also scored a touchdown in all three of Denver's preseason contests.Booker has totaled 33 yards on nine carries (3.7 yards per) over the last three weeks, while Freeman is up to 84 yards on 15 rushes (5.6 yards per). The veteran has also failed to make much of an impact as a pass-catcher, with just one reception for 10 yards. Freeman, who isn't known for his receiving ability, has one catch for six yards during that same stretch.Preseason performances can be deceiving, but at the moment, it appears the Broncos would be best suited going with Freeman as the early-down back and undrafted rookie Phillip Lindsay as the change-of-pace option. Lindsay has been electric for the Broncos, including a whopping 49 yards on eight touches Friday night.Any doubts about who should start in Denver should be put to rest by Saturday morning. The key will be whether the coaching staff sees things the same way. Even if Booker remains involved early in the year, Freeman is the best back on the team and should take over as the season moves along. He can be drafted confidently as an RB2 in the fourth round and dynasty leaguers should keep an eye on Lindsay, as well.Peterson impresses in Redskins debutAdrian Peterson has made a career of surprising us with feats we never thought possible. His 2,000-yard campaign coming off a torn ACL seemed otherworldly. Now, as a member of the Redskins, the 33-year-old back is hoping to shock the fantasy community once more.Peterson took his first carry with Washington up the middle for a seven-yard gain. He continued to remind us of his future Hall of Fame resume with runs of 13 and 15 yards, the latter of which came on fourth-and-inches.Despite his age, there's little reason to be surprised by Peterson's outstanding debut in Washington. He averaged over four yards per carry in three of six starts for the Cardinals late last season. The question isn't how well AP can still play, but rather how long can he keep it up for. When fantasy owners see the highlights from Friday and the box score line of 11 carries for 56 yards, Peterson's ADP is going to rise. If you're looking for a starting fantasy back for the first month of the season, Peterson should be in the conversation. Just don't expect him to maintain starter production for long.As a late-round flier, I'll gladly take a shot on what could be one of the most fun stories of the fantasy season. But if his stock moves up into the middle rounds, you should let someone else see how this all plays out. The far more dynamic Chris Thompson is the Redskins RB to own in fantasy.Bucs going with Barber On a night when rookie Ronald Jones II hauled in a 37-yard reception, you'd think the takeaway would be more positive for him. Unfortunately, as a runner, Jones gained seven yards on six carries, with four coming on a single play. It's far too early to write off the 21-year-old, but the Buccaneers have made their intentions clear by putting the ball in Peyton Barber's hands, and he's delivered.Barber racked up 34 yards against the Lions, highlighted by a 14-yard touchdown during which he was able to evade multiple defenders and find a runway to the end zone.Jones' catch was a nice sign of development for a first-year back who wasn't asked to do much in the passing game in college. However, he still has a long way to go before he can be trusted as a running back, either in real life or fantasy.Meanwhile, Barber's ADP entering Friday night was in the eighth round - a bargain for a potential starter in an offense that could be dangerous once Jameis Winston returns from his three-game suspension. Barber has RB2 upside and, at the moment, is unchallenged as the Bucs' lead back. It's time to stock up on Barber shares if you haven't already.Instant Impressions

New York Giants tight end Evan Engram was ruled out for the remainder of Friday's preseason game against the New York Jets after leaving in the second quarter with a concussion.Engram was hit by a pair of defenders after catching a pass from Eli Manning. He initially stayed on the ground and then walked off the field slowly. The 23rd overall pick of the 2017 draft caught 64 of 115 targets for 722 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. The controversial trainer whose presence around the New England Patriots reportedly caused a rift last year between Bill Belichick and Tom Brady flew with the team to Carolina for a preseason game, sources told ESPN's Mike Reiss.Alex Guerrero reportedly stopped traveling with the Patriots partway through the 2017 season, leading to speculation Belichick had limited his access. Guerrero, who has served as Brady's personal trainer for the past few years, has been scrutinized for his unconventional training methods.Guerrero's presence reportedly became concerning for Belichick after other Patriots players began seeing him for injuries instead of the team's medical staff. Guerrero has been more visible around the team throughout the preseason, though, which is possibly a sign tensions have eased ahead of the 2018 campaign. In addition to Brady, Guerrero has also worked closely with Patriots receiver Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski. Edelman is suspended for the first four games of the 2018 regular season after failing a performance-enhancing drugs test. Brady called it "ridiculous" to draw a connection between the suspension and his longtime trainer. The Patriots will face the Panthers in their third preseason game on Friday night.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Free-agent tight end Julius Thomas announced his retirement from the NFL Friday in a column for The Players' Tribune."I realized that while I may have reached my financial goals, my work as a man was just beginning," Thomas wrote. "I learned that no matter what you have and no matter what other people see, happiness comes from your own definition of it. It became clear that I was living unaware of anything outside of my goal, which was to be the best football player I could be."I realized that no matter my material success, I had much work to do internally. I could no longer play to the social ideal of the happy athlete millionaire. I had to take an honest look at who I was, or as Jung would say, dive into my 'shadow.' To realize that life is tough emotionally on all of us. That we can’t grow until we have healed from the traumas of our pasts."Thomas also wrote that he's decided to go back to school to pursue a doctorate in psychology. He intends to study therapy and "the effects of contact sports on brain trauma and neurobehavioral performance."The tight end is stepping away from the game after seven seasons - four with the Denver Broncos, two with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and one for the Miami Dolphins (his most recent team). On the football field, Thomas is perhaps best known for his production during his final two seasons in Denver, catching passes from Peyton Manning. He accumulated 24 touchdowns from 2013-2014.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

The Dallas Cowboys are determined not to let the Travis Frederick injury produce similar chaos to what ensued last year when left tackle Tyron Smith was sidelined versus the Atlanta Falcons."You do lose people ... You're supposed to make adjustments, we didn't adjust," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday of the fiasco in Atlanta, according to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. "That really, really was a focal point of our offseason."With Smith - the Cowboys' franchise left tackle - shelved against the Falcons last season, pass-rusher Adrian Clayborn abused his backup, Chaz Green, en route to a six-sack performance. The Cowboys are set to forge ahead this year without Frederick, their four-time Pro Bowl center, on an indefinite basis after he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barre syndrome.Related: Why Cowboys' offense can survive in Frederick's absence"We didn't adjust," Jones added. "We don't want to have another Atlanta happen to us. 'The Burning of Atlanta.' That was called 'The Burning of Atlanta.' Gone with the wind."In addition to Frederick, Dallas is currently dealing with offensive line injuries to Smith, right guard Zack Martin, and right tackle La'el Collins, though none of their issues should threaten their availability for the start of the regular season.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. After Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor briefly exited Thursday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a wrist injury, rookie Baker Mayfield had the opportunity to play with the first-team offense.Mayfield completed 8 of 12 passes for 76 yards and one interception overall, delivering just one field goal in the process. While the No. 1 overall pick's stat line is a bit misleading - he once again flashed poise and accuracy against a tough defense - he was not pleased with his effort."Not my best game by any means," Mayfield told reporters, via Ohio.com's Steve Doerschuk. "(I'm) disappointed in myself."I would never say it is a good opportunity when our leader and captain goes down, but getting out there with the ones, that is something that I need to do. I did that, and that is why I am disappointed in myself. I didn't take advantage."Mayfield said he was "fixing to go back into the game" after Taylor was cleared to return, but understood it wasn't his decision. Browns head coach Hue Jackson was not as hard on his signal-caller."I thought (Mayfield) did some good things," Jackson said. "Baker has completed some huge balls and made some plays. Obviously, the interception was unfortunate. He was getting hit as he was trying to throw."I think he sees the NFL is a grind. It does not always go the way you want it to, and you just have to fight through, keep playing and keep making plays, and I saw that in him. There is no flinch in him at all. He competes."Jackson said Mayfield could start in the team's preseason finale against the Detroit Lions, and is already focused on things his rookie quarterback should work on."(He'll work on) taking care of the ball and getting the ball out quicker," Jackson said. "Get it into your playmakers' hands. The defense had a bunch of turnovers. We have to take advantage and feed off of that."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved.
