Jaguars' Fournette suspended 1 game for role in fight
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette has been suspended one game for his actions during Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, the league announced.Fournette left the sideline to enter a fray and threw a punch at Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson. He was officially disciplined for "violations of unsportsmanlike conduct and unnecessary roughness."Fournette will miss Jacksonville's Week 13 contest against the Indianapolis Colts."Video of the incident shows that you were not a participant in the play and that you ran from your sideline to the opposite side of the field to insert yourself as an active participant in a fight. Once you entered the fight area, you struck a member of the opposing team. Your actions adversely reflected on the NFL and have no place in the game," NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan wrote in his ruling.Fournette has three days to file an appeal.Barring a successful appeal, next week's game will be the 10th Fournette has missed since being selected fourth overall in the 2017 draft.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Beckham passing out Joker cards to fans during games
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been known to channel the Joker during warmups, and now has cards that depict himself as the fictional "Batman" series villain.Beckham's been carrying the cards on game days and handing them out to rival fans, according to Zach Braziller of the New York Post. He was seen giving a card to a young Philadelphia Eagles fan during the Giants' loss Sunday.
Shurmur dismisses Beckham's criticism of game plan vs. Eagles
New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur disagrees with Odell Beckham Jr.'s assertion that the team's game plan Sunday didn't involve attacking the Philadelphia Eagles' banged-up secondary as much as it should have."We ran the ball 18 times, we threw it 37," the first-year coach said Monday while reflecting on the Giants' 25-22 loss, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. "That is twice as many throws as there were runs. We had seven explosive gains in the passing game. The only team that we played that we had more was Carolina. We had eight."Beckham hauled in five receptions on nine targets for 95 yards against the Eagles but was left frustrated by another loss. He said after the contest that the Giants should have been more aggressive in the passing game, but "that wasn't in our game plan.""You'll have to ask him to define it after he watches the tape but I felt like we were doing the things necessary to win the game," Shurmur said. "We still got production in the running game, had a couple third-down calls in the red zone that were close. If we get those in, it's a different story."The Giants held a 19-3 lead at one point in the second quarter but squandered it in the second half. They scored just three points after halftime."That was one man's opinion after an emotional loss," Shurmur added. "But what happens is you get an opportunity to get a good night sleep, you watch the tape, maybe change his opinion."The Giants fell to 3-8 with the defeat.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jaguars bench Bortles, name Kessler starting QB vs. Colts
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced a quarterback change Monday, benching Blake Bortles and naming Cody Kessler the starter for Sunday's Week 13 game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars made the move after firing offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and handing play-calling duties to Scott Milanovich earlier in the day.Bortles, who signed a three-year, $54-million extension nine months ago after steering Jacksonville to the AFC Championship Game, is in the midst of a dismal campaign. He's thrown 13 touchdowns against 10 interceptions in 11 starts, though his completion percentage and quarterback rating are both slightly above his career averages. The Jaguars have lost seven straight games, dropping their record to 3-8.Kessler, a third-year pro, went 21 of 30 for 156 yards with a touchdown, an interception, and a fumble in his only previous appearance this season.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Week 12 By Design: Breaking down Sunday's best plays
Here's a look at the well-designed and well-executed plays that made our list in Week 12:Passing Design of the Week: Seahawks well-prepared for scramble drillPerhaps the biggest game of the week took place in Charlotte, where the Carolina Panthers hosted the Seattle Seahawks. And the back-and-forth affair came down to the final moments. After Panthers kicker Graham Gano missed a 52-yard field goal with under two minutes remaining in a tie game, the Seahawks were given a chance to pull out the road victory. As always, they looked to quarterback Russell Wilson - and the crafty gunslinger delivered:On this third-down play, Wilson's kept clean in the pocket but initially lacks a downfield option thanks to great coverage. At that point, the scramble drill kicks in.Scramble-drill plays are an element of the passing game that every team practices, with rules and guidelines that each offense installs. Receivers break off their routes simultaneously - those running shorter designs often break vertically, deeper options may work back to the football, and others mirror the quarterback's lateral movement to one sideline or the other. For a team with a very mobile quarterback like Seattle with Wilson, these plays are critical to their overall offensive success. In this case, wide receiver Tyler Lockett (No. 16), who first ran a short hitch route to the right flat, sees that Wilson needs an outlet and breaks vertically, leaving behind cornerback Captain Munnerlyn (No. 1). Wilson finds Lockett and drops in a well-placed throw, getting the Seahawks down to the Panthers' 10-yard line, well inside field-goal range. From this replay angle, you can see how the QB and WR are on the same page:Wilson's great vision - coupled with the awareness of Lockett as he released vertically away from the rest of the coverage and other receiving routes - helped the Seahawks pull out a much-needed victory.Rushing Design of the Week: Numbers advantage springs LindsayThe Denver Broncos kept their playoff hopes alive against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a last-second interception, but there were great plays made all over the field. One of those came from rookie running back Phillip Lindsay, who continues to be a focal point of the Denver offense. His 32-yard gain in the second quarter moved the Broncos deep into Pittsburgh's territory. The success of this play begins with the formation and personnel. The Broncos break the huddle with one wide receiver, two backs, and two tight ends - known as 22 personnel - with both tight ends and fullback Andy Janovich (No. 32) on the right, giving them a huge numbers advantage on that side of the field:NFL/CBSThat's exactly where Lindsay goes after taking the handoff, as the Broncos run a zone-blocking design to the right and the rusher finds a hole:With a favorable schedule down the stretch and Lindsay continuing to put up numbers, the 5-6 Broncos are rounding into form at the right time and have a shot to make some noise down the stretch.Pressure Design of the Week: Bosa takes advantage of 1-on-1Talented Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa looks like himself after missing the first 10 weeks of the season with a lingering foot injury. Against Denver in Week 11, he saw limited action, notching one tackle. But his second appearance of the season was a different story, as Bosa found himself back in the sack column (twice) at the expense of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen. One of those sacks came early in the second quarter on a third-and-9 in Cardinals' territory. With Rosen lined up in the shotgun, the Chargers turn to two of their pressure concepts. First, they show blitz with both linebackers. Next, they put pass-rusher Melvin Ingram just inside of Bosa - who's on the end - which means their two best pressure players are on the same edge:NFL/FOXThe linebackers drop in coverage, but Bosa takes advantage of his one-on-one matchup against the right tackle - which is created by the alignment of Ingram and the linebackers showing blitz - and easily gets around the edge for the sack:This play highlights how the Chargers pair schemes and deception with Bosa's power and speed off the edge to collapse the pocket. And with running back Melvin Gordon now sidelined with a knee injury, Bosa and the defense will play a key role moving forward.Coverage Design of the Week: Eagles' patchwork secondary saves the dayThe New York Giants entered Sunday riding a two-game winning streak, and their passing game seemed to be turning the corner after a difficult start. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles' defense is dealing with a litany of injuries, especially in the secondary, but that banged-up unit turned in a huge interception before halftime to stave off New York's scoring threat. The play begins with just 17 seconds remaining in the second quarter and the Giants facing a second-and-10 at the Eagles' 37-yard line. Eli Manning's in the shotgun and looking for Odell Beckham Jr. to run a post route (red arrow):NFL/FOXDefensively, the Eagles run a pretty standard Tampa 2 coverage, but with a twist involving safety Malcolm Jenkins (orange circle):NFL/FOXHere, Jenkins drops down a bit and aligns in the middle of the field, leaving him responsible for helping between the two deeper safeties behind him. Traditionally, this assignment's executed by a linebacker, but not this time - and it pays off perfectly:Jenkins reads Manning's eyes and steps in front of Beckham, snaring the interception and ending the Giants' scoring threat. The visitors come away without any points on the drive, setting the stage for the Eagles' second-half comeback win, which kept their playoff hopes alive.Mark Schofield writes NFL feature content for theScore. How Derrick Morgan turned his Titans teammates vegan
Some of the world's best athletes have switched to plant-based diets, but until fairly recently, it was hard to find many NFL linemen or linebackers on that list.Tennessee Titans defensive star Derrick Morgan is working to change that - and he has plenty of help.Concerned about the wear and tear he'd accumulated over the first seven seasons of his pro career, he researched ways to improve his recovery. He eventually decided to adopt a plant-based diet ahead of the 2017 campaign."I was looking for a competitive advantage when it came to recovery and ways to lower my overall inflammation," Morgan told theScore.Tom Brady, Venus Williams, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, and Colin Kaepernick have either completely ditched meat or incorporated more plant-based options into their diets for various performance-related reasons. There are also overall health benefits, as studies indicate plant-based diets reduce the risk of various types of cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.Still, giving up meat and animal products may seem impractical to many NFL linemen, a position where players average 300 pounds; Morgan, a linebacker, is listed at 6-foot-4 and 261 lbs.Morgan managed to find the correct balance, ensuring he was getting the right amount of nutrients to maintain his blocks without losing strength. Though he was concerned about not getting enough protein, he discovered many plant-based dishes are packed with it. Within a couple of days, Morgan says he noticed improvements in the quality of his sleep and his recovery time after his workouts. Any lingering doubts about this new lifestyle were squashed. It wasn't just a new lifestyle for Morgan - his family made the transition as well. And he was much better off than most players in his situation.Morgan's wife, Charity Morgan, holds a culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and begin to re-educate herself as a vegan chef. She discovered ways to prepare some of her family favorites with a vegan twist. Derrick said switching as a family made things easier, though his children weren't on board right away."(The kids' adjustment) was very difficult at first," says Derrick. "Consistency was key and eventually, their palates began to change."As Derrick went back to work, Charity would pack him a couple of meals and a snack to keep him fueled throughout training camp. It didn't take long before his teammates noticed. Some teased him, but a faction within the locker room grew curious enough to begin peppering him with questions. After the months he and his family had spent educating themselves, Derrick was happy to be a source of information.Though Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey was skeptical about making the switch, he became convinced he'd be able to remain strong while improving his overall health."I thought I was going to get a little weaker," Casey told ESPN's Cameron Wolfe last December. "I thought I wasn't going to sustain my blocks. I thought, 'Will I waste all my training by doing this?' But I was good. The biggest thing is knowing what you're substituting your protein for."As the conversation grew within the locker room, Derrick's teammates began soliciting Charity's assistance with meal plans and prep. Before long, a dozen Titans players were on board.

Luck: I think I'm done playing receiver
Andrew Luck took a big hit from Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones after catching a pass and converting a fourth-and-1 on Sunday, and the Indianapolis Colts quarterback thinks that might be a fitting way to cap off his receiving career. It was Luck's second target in consecutive weeks, and the drive ended with a Colts touchdown. Indianapolis eventually defeated the Dolphins 27-24."I thought I was (retired), now I am," Luck said on playing receiver, according to the Indianapolis Star's Joel A. Erickson and Scott Horner. "I think I am."
Jaguars fire OC Nathaniel Hackett
The Jacksonville Jaguars fired offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on Monday, the team announced.Jacksonville is fresh off a 24-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and has dropped seven straight games.Hackett thought he was meeting to discuss a possible change at quarterback before being told he was fired."It wasn't anything negative, (Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone) just decided to make a move. I guess he didn't think I was good enough," Hackett told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.Hackett added: "I knew Doug had thought about it I guess the football Gods had it out for me. We started off hot, had so many injuries, we were a completely different team. Guys busted their butts, but you can only do so much. I wish I could’ve figured something out."Hackett first served as the quarterbacks coach for Jacksonville in 2015 before being tapped as the interim offensive coordinator the following year.Prior to coaching in Jacksonville, Hackett was the Bills' offensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014, working under Marrone.Jacksonville, an AFC Conference finalist last season, currently ranks 22nd in yards per game (346.5) and 28th points per game (17.9). Vikings cruise past Packers in NFC North battle on SNF
MINNEAPOLIS - Kirk Cousins bounced back from his worst game for Minnesota with 342 passing yards and three touchdowns without a turnover, and the Vikings overcame some early gaffes to outlast the depleted Green Bay Packers for a 24-17 victory on Sunday night.Completing 29 of his 38 attempts, Cousins found Dalvin Cook, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen for scores. Sheldon Richardson had two sacks to lead the defense's game-long stifling of Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings (6-4-1) pushed the Packers (4-6-1) further back in the NFC wild card race.Rodgers threw a touchdown pass to Davante Adams and Aaron Jones scored on a short run for a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter, but the Packers fell to 0-6 on the road this season and 1-5-1 against the Vikings in their last seven meetings. With Randall Cobb out (hamstring) for a sixth game this season and rookies Equanimeous St. Brown (elbow) and Trevor Davis (hamstring) forced out in the second half, Rodgers didn't have much to work with down the field. Left guard Lane Taylor (quadriceps) departed in the first half and left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) was sidelined in the second half, leaving the protection shaky at best. Rodgers finished 17 for 28 for 198 yards, without a turnover. The Packers failed to move the chains on eight of 10 third downs. Jones was stuffed on fourth-and-inches by Harrison Smith, Danielle Hunter and Eric Kendricks midway through the third quarter, giving the Vikings the ball at the Green Bay 44. That set up a 37-yard field goal by Dan Bailey for Minnesota's first lead of the game. The Vikings outgained the Packers 280-139 in total yardage in the first half, but in yet another sign that this just might not be their year they had to settle for a tie at the break. About to go for it on fourth-and-inches on the opening drive following a timeout to strategize, they were penalized for 12 men on the field and had to punt.Diggs collided with Thielen when Jaire Alexander crashed their pick play on the second possession, and after Diggs tried to circle back the other way with an ill-fated salvage attempt he lost 10 yards on that reception to lead to another punt.Bailey's wide left 48-yard try wasted another highlight-reel catch by Thielen in between Alexander and Josh Jones that went for 33 yards. Later in the second quarter, after some mismanagement of the clock, the Vikings had to hustle to set up a 51-yard kick for Bailey. That one was good, but Rashod Hill was called for a false start. The 56-yarder sliced right, the fifth straight missed field goal against the Packers after rookie Daniel Carlson went 0 for 3 in Green Bay and was cut the next day.Ultimately, the Vikings smoothed out the rough spots and won a night game for the first time this season after losing to the top three teams in the NFC: to the Rams in Los Angeles, at home to the New Orleans Saints and last week at Chicago in a two-interception game by Cousins against the first-place Bears.PACKED AND HAPPY HOUSEThe announced attendance of 66,872 was the largest for the Vikings in three years at U.S. Bank Stadium. A handful of Minnesota players were introduced in the first quarter with Paul Bunyan's Axe, the trophy the Gophers repossessed from the rival Badgers in Wisconsin on Saturday to end a 14-game losing streak. Randy Moss kept the crowd fired up in a halftime ceremony to receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring.INJURY REPORTPackers: In addition to the carnage on offense, SS Kentrell Brice aggravated an ankle injury in the first quarter and was knocked out of action in the third quarter with a possible concussion. CB Kevin King and CB Bashaud Breeland were already inactive with injuries.Vikings: RT Brian O'Neill left in the third quarter for evaluation for a possible concussion. ... Outspoken Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey didn't voice a changed opinion of rookie quarterback Josh Allen following the Buffalo Bills' 24-21 victory on Sunday.Ramsey said in an August interview with GQ he thinks "Allen is trash." He doubled down on that notion ahead of their Week 12 matchup. After Allen completed 8 of 19 passes for 160 yards and a score while rushing for 99 yards and another touchdown, Ramsey seemed to be moving on."The good thing about the world we live in is everyone can have an opinion. I stick by my opinions usually. It was with his feet. He did enough for their team to get a win," Ramsey said after the game, according to Mark Ludwiczak of the Bills Digest."That's really what matters at the end of the day. So it doesn't matter what I said or anything like that. I'm sure that's what he was thinking on his side, it doesn't matter. You have opinions every day, they can have opinions but it's about what you go out there and do and what he went out there and did for his team is get a win so you can't really say anything about it."Allen, the seventh overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Wyoming, improved to 3-3 as a starter this season. Beckham criticizes gameplan following loss to Eagles
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. critiqued his team's offense once again following Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.Beckham made national headlines in October for blasting quarterback Eli Manning's pass distribution, along with the Giants' offensive scheme, during an interview with ESPN. He later told reporters he had no regrets over his commentary. The star wide receiver took issue with the team's scheme Sunday, noting that the Eagles were dealing with several injuries on the defensive side of the ball."Knowing they were struggling (with injuries) in the secondary, personally I would’ve loved to attack them. But that wasn’t in our game plan," Beckham said postgame, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.Beckham finished with five catches for 85 yards, leading his team in both categories. Ultimately, the Giants failed to close out the Eagles after taking a 19-11 halftime lead.At 3-8, the Giants' season is all but over and Beckham's critiques of the offense may be the everlasting memory of the year.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith is not certain to return to football after suffering a spiral fracture in his leg, though there's optimism he will be able to play again, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Schefter added that doctors are "maintaining a wait-and-see attitude even though the Redskins believe he can make it back" from breaking both the tibia and fibula in his right leg in Week 11.The Redskins said Smith will require six-to-eight months to recover, which would put him on course to be ready for either mandatory minicamp in May or training camp in July.Colt McCoy is set to continue starting in Smith's absence.Smith is under contract through the 2022 season after signing a four-year, $94-million extension following his trade from the Kansas City Chiefs this past offseason. The quarterback's deal had $55 million guaranteed at signing and $71 million overall, so if the worst-case scenario comes to pass and he can no longer play, the Redskins could face some serious cap issues.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. 49ers release Reuben Foster after domestic violence arrest
The San Francisco 49ers announced the release of former first-round linebacker Reuben Foster after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge Saturday night.Foster remains in jail as of Sunday morning, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The 49ers were adamant that Foster's future with the team was in jeopardy following previous domestic violence charges, which were dropped in May after his ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, recanted her claims."It’s extremely disappointing for me, for Kyle, for ownership, for everybody in here," 49ers general manager John Lynch said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "We care a lot about Reuben and I can tell you it’s a situation where we laid out some very specific ground rules for Reuben, as we do for all our players."Foster has started six games for San Francisco in 2018, racking up 25 tackles."What transpired yesterday - this isn’t a comment on what happened there because that would be mere speculation on our part - it’s more of a comment on him not living up to what we have communicated, and to the energy and the time we’ve invested in him," Lynch said. The 31st overall pick of the 2017 draft was suspended for the first two games of the season after he pleaded no contest to a weapons possession misdemeanor.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Wentz not fully recovered from knee injury
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has not fully recovered from the torn ACL and LCL he suffered in December 2017, a source with direct knowledge of his rehab told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The passer isn't the same quarterback who starred last season, and the source maintains it's due to Wentz being unable to plant hard on his left leg. He's said to be taking "baby steps" and appears tentative with his left foot when stepping into a throw or scrambling.Rapoport added that the injury requires at least a year to fully heal. The former No. 2 overall pick will be able to shed his knee brace next season.Wentz has completed 69.5 percent of his passes in 2018 for 2,304 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions. In 13 starts last year, he threw for 33 scores to just seven interceptions. The Eagles have struggled after winning Super Bowl LII, losing three of their last four games and dropping to 4-6.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone is not in danger of losing his job despite the team's significant regression this season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Maronne is in his second year at the helm of the Jaguars. He steered the franchise to the AFC Championship in 2017, but Jacksonville has stumbled to a 3-7 mark this season.Marrone owns a 14-14 record with the Jaguars since taking over near the end of the 2016 campaign on an interim basis. NFL betting preview: Week 12 lines, totals
After exploring some betting tips and best plays, let's dig into the line and total moves for the Week 12 NFL slate.Seattle Seahawks at Carolina PanthersOpening odds: CAR -3.5 / 47Current odds: CAR -3 / 46.5The Seattle Seahawks will cross a few time zones for an early start on their body clocks when they travel to take on the Panthers. Carolina opened -3 and bounced around from -3 to -3.5 through the week, while the total topped out at 47.5.Oakland Raiders at Baltimore RavensOpen: BAL -10.5 / 42.5Current: BAL -12.5 / 42.5The Oakland Raiders snapped a five-game skid both straight up and against the spread last week with a win over the Arizona Cardinals, but bettors are back to fading the two-win club. The Ravens ticked all the way up from -11 to -12.5 through Saturday into Sunday despite backup and rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson making his second career start in place of an ailing Joe Flacco. Baltimore will likely be a moneyline and teaser liability for the books.Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati BengalsOpen: CIN -3 / 47.5Current: CIN -1 / 46.5The market is not buying the Cincinnati Bengals, who are down a full two points from the opener. Wide receiver A.J. Green was downgraded to doubtful over the weekend, as was cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick. The Cleveland Browns come in with extra rest and will look to continue a hot run of road teams covering after the bye week.New York Giants at Philadelphia EaglesOpen: PHI -6 / 46Current: PHI -4.5 / 48.5The Eagles' performance last week might have been the final straw for bettors. Philadelphia was a no-show in a 38-point beatdown at the hands of the New Orleans Saints. Despite rolling the Giants by 21 in the first meeting, the Eagles were bet down during the week. The total has climbed a couple points, as New York hung 38 points on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend.San Francisco 49ers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Open: TB -3 / 55.5Current: TB -2 / 54.5Nick Mullens will make his first road start when the San Francisco 49ers travel to meet the Buccaneers, who are handing their quarterback reins back to Jameis Winston. Tampa Bay - ranked last in the league in scoring defense - has only allowed 22.6 points at home, as opposed to roughly 40 on the road. The market's moved this one all over the place: -3 to -3.5 and all the way down to -1 on Sunday morning before coming back to -2. Though it'll be a long trek and an early start, San Francisco has the benefit of rest off the bye week.New England Patriots at New York JetsOpen: NE -9 / 46.5Current: NE -10.5 / 46.5Bettors have monitored the quarterback situation for both the New England Patriots and New York Jets. Tom Brady missed Friday's practice with a knee injury and simultaneous illness but traveled with the team and is good to go. Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold will miss his second straight game, giving veteran Josh McCown the nod for Sunday. The Patriots - who have covered 15 of the previous 19 following a straight-up loss - had nine times as many bets on the ticket count than the Jets at MGM Resorts.Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo BillsOpen: JAX -3 / 38Current: JAX - 3 / 37The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the league's most disappointing teams. They're currently on a six-game skid and let a late, double-digit lead fall by the wayside in last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Buffalo Bills picked up an impressive 31-point win over the Jets in Week 10 behind Matt Barkley but will turn back to rookie Josh Allen on Sunday. This one hasn't seen too much movement, with the Jags sitting -3 for the majority of the week in most places.Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles ChargersOpen: LAC -11.5 / 44.5Current: LAC - 14 / 43.5The Chargers figure to be another liability, as MGM had 2.5 times the ticket count on Los Angeles than the Cardinals as of Saturday night. Similar to Baltimore, L.A. opened as a double-digit favorite and has only been bet more, seeing the biggest move of any side this weekend all the way up to -14.Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver BroncosOpen: PIT -4.5 / 47.5Current: PIT -3 / 47.5The Steelers are right behind the Pats in ticket discrepancy at MGM, garnering five times as many bets as the Denver Broncos. However, Pittsburgh opened -4.5 and has held steady at -3 for much of the week.Miami Dolphins at Indianapolis ColtsOpen: IND -7.5 /50.5Current: IND - 8.5 / 52Bettors might be banking on the Indianapolis Colts to put up more points, as Indy jumped from -7.5 to -8.5 on Sunday morning while the total also saw a nice bump from 50.5 to 52. The Colts have scored 29 points or more in their last five games and welcome a Miami Dolphins defense that has given up an average of 30 points on the road this season.Green Bay Packers at Minnesota VikingsOpen: MIN -4.5 / 48Current: MIN -3 / 47.5The Minnesota Vikings fell to 5-4 last weekend with a Sunday Night Football loss to the Chicago Bears. It also put quarterback Kirk Cousins at 4-12 in prime-time games for his career, a hot narrative through the week. Minnesota is down 1.5 points from the opener and welcomes a Green Bay Packers team playing its fourth road game in five weeks.Tennessee Titans at Houston TexansOpen: HOU -5.5 / 41.5Current: HOU -4 / 41.5This one was off the board earlier in the week as oddsmakers waited on the status of Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota. Once he was cleared, the Titans opened as 5.5-point underdogs but have been bet down to +4. The Houston Texans were getting twice the amount of bets at MGM Resorts as of Saturday night.Alex Kolodziej is theScore's betting writer. Report: Cowboys planning to extend Prescott, Cooper in offseason
It could be an expensive summer for Jerry Jones. The Dallas Cowboys intend to give contract extensions to both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper this upcoming offseason, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Dallas has yet to engage in talks with either player, however, added Rapoport. The Cowboys also have to take care of defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, by either placing the franchise tag on him again or giving him a big-money extension, but the team reportedly has prepared to fit all its stars under the cap.Prescott will likely be asking for a deal that at least exceeds that of Jimmy Garoppolo, who signed an extension worth $27.5 million per season last year.Aaron Rodgers ($33.5 million), Matt Ryan ($30 million), and Kirk Cousins ($28 million) are the NFL's top earners, but all have more production and pedigree than Prescott.Meanwhile, Cooper will probably be aiming to match the $16 million per season give to Sammy Watkins during 2017 free agency, as the Cowboys were reportedly among the teams interested in the wideout who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Jets' Darnold unlikely to return next week
While New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold could return from his foot injury next week, he's more likely to miss one more week and re-enter the starting lineup in Week 14, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The rookie was ruled out for the Jets' divisional matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday, his second straight game on the sidelines. Josh McCown is starting in his place.Darnold missed New York's Week 10 loss to the Buffalo Bills - before the team's bye week - but has since ditched his walking boot and started jogging following the extra week of rest. The No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft has completed 55 percent of his pass attempts this season for 1,934 yards and 11 touchdowns through nine games. Arians: Browns 'only' team I'd end retirement to coach
Bruce Arians is apparently seriously contemplating ending his retirement. The former Arizona Cardinals head coach said the Cleveland Browns are the only destination he has his eyes on, and that his wife, who encouraged him to retire, is fully on board with a potential return."I would listen to the Browns," Arians told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. "And only them."Arians was reiterating his interest from earlier in the month, but at the time, he recommended ex-Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano for the job.Cleveland is expected to hire a head coach who can nurture Baker Mayfield, and Arians' impressive list of mentored quarterbacks includes Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Andrew Luck.Despite his interest in the position, and the potentially prolific partnership with Mayfield, Arians put his chances at earning the job at "one percent" but added that "we'll see.""I've always loved Cleveland," Arians said. "The fans, shoot, one of the best groups in the league and when I called their game this past year, I got that feeling about them."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. 49ers' Reuben Foster arrested on domestic violence charge
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster was arrested on a domestic violence charge Saturday night at a Florida hotel, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department arrest report obtained by Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle.Foster, who was with the 49ers at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, was booked into a local jail at 11:11 p.m. ET. Bond has not yet been posted.Previous domestic violence charges brought against Foster were dropped in May after his ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, recanted her claims both in a statement released through her attorney and later under oath in court.49ers general manager John Lynch was adamant during the early 2018 investigation that if the allegations proved to be true, Foster wouldn't be a part of the organization moving forward.Jed York, the club's CEO, shared a similar sentiment."We'd love Reuben to be on this team," York told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area in March. "And we'd love him to participate for us, but if he's not doing things off the field that allow us to be able to rely on him - or he's doing something that we're not comfortable with off the field and it's proven that's what's going on - I think the guys have said then you're just going to have to move on."After having the domestic violence charge dropped, along with a marijuana charge, Foster pleaded no contest to a weapons possession misdemeanor. As a result, he was issued a two-game suspension to start the 2018 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Fantasy: 5 last-minute additions poised for big games in Week 12
Each week, we take a look at five last-minute additions for your fantasy team heading into Sunday.Curtis Samuel, WR, Panthersvs. SeahawksStreeter Lecka / Getty Images Sport / GettySamuel posted season-highs in targets (7) and receiving yards (55) while scoring his third touchdown in three weeks against the Detroit Lions in Week 11.The sophomore is up to five total scores through seven games, and he's already topped his receiving total from his injury-shortened rookie season.Veteran Torrey Smith remains questionable heading into Sunday after a four-game absence, and Samuel's versatility and strong overall performance this season should keep him highly involved both as a receiver and an occasional complement to Christian McCaffrey in the backfield.Chris Herndon, TE, Jetsvs. PatriotsMark Brown / Getty Images Sport / GettyAn ankle injury is still hampering Robby Anderson, though he's expected to play in a limited role on Sunday. That should leave Herndon as one of the top available targets for quarterback Josh McCown against the Patriots. The rookie tight end has received four targets in each of his past two games, recording seven catches to improve his catch rate to 73.1 percent this season.Herndon leads the Jets in both red-zone receptions and touchdowns. If the Jets are able to move the ball better than they did against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10, Herndon should benefit with the Patriots having allowed more receiving touchdowns than all but five teams this season.Dante Pettis, WR, 49ersat BuccaneersRob Leiter / Getty Images Sport / GettyAlthough Pettis' lone score of the year came all the way back in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, he recorded four catches off a season-high six targets in Week 10, albeit for a very modest 12 yards.Veteran Pierre Garcon has been ruled out for a second consecutive game, and Marquise Goodwin is doubtful after being excused for a personal matter. Pettis' role should be elevated to the No. 2 option behind tight end George Kittle.Only two teams have allowed more 20-plus yard passing plays than the Buccaneers this season, and Tampa's defense also shares the league lead in touchdowns allowed through the air.Jordan Wilkins, RB, Coltsvs. DolphinsIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyWilkins has had a strong debut season while operating predominantly as the Colts' No. 3 back behind Marlon Mack and fellow rookie Nyheim Hines. He's carried the ball just 57 times over 10 games, but he's averaging 5.6 yards per attempt and has caught 10 of 11 targets for 42 yards. Only five teams allow more yards per carry than the Dolphins, who also rank 30th in the league in rushing yards allowed per game. The Colts are favored by more than a touchdown Sunday in quarterback Ryan Tannehill's return from injury. Wilkins could get plenty of second-half work in order to preserve Mack for closer games down the stretch if this one plays out as the oddsmakers predict.Marcell Ateman, WR, Raidersat RavensIcon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyBrandon LaFell is out for the season with a torn Achilles while Martavis Bryant and Jordy Nelson are at risk of missing Week 12, which should give Ateman a chance to lead the Raiders' receiving corps against the Ravens. The seventh-round pick of the 2018 NFL Draft caught four of his five targets for 50 yards last week in his first game on the active roster. Oakland faces a tough matchup, but Ateman will likely be Derek Carr's No. 2 target behind tight end Jared Cook.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Top 5 betting plays for Week 12 of the NFL season
After uncovering some betting nuggets and making our picks for every team total in Week 12, let's go through our five best overall plays for the NFL slate.San Francisco 49ers at Tampa Bay BuccaneersWager: Under 54The Buccaneers have been the best "over" play this season, sailing past the number in eight of 10 games thanks to poor defensive play and a pass-heavy offense. But the combination of a cross-country trip and change at quarterback will hurt the 49ers on Sunday.Tampa Bay has looked somewhat equipped to stop offenses at home - allowing 22.5 points per game at Raymond James Stadium, compared to 39.8 on the road. It also gets backup quarterback Nick Mullens in his first career start away from home. The Bucs will turn back to Jameis Winston following a rough stretch of games for Ryan Fitzpatrick, but the offense has actually been better with the latter this season. The veteran Fitzpatrick has helped the offense average 0.6 more adjusted yards per play than with Winston under center.Oakland Raiders at Baltimore RavensWager: Over 42.5Rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson will make his second straight start when the Ravens host the Raiders on Sunday. The Ravens' offense should have a field day against a Raiders front seven that hasn't been able to dial up any pressure this season, ranking last in the NFL with only nine sacks.Baltimore's elite defense appears to have come back down to earth a bit recently, allowing 5.4 yards per play over the last three games. Oakland has a banged-up receiving corps but you can still expect quarterback Derek Carr to be throwing a ton in this one.New York Giants at Philadelphia EaglesWager: Eagles -5.5This is as good a time as any to buy low on the Eagles, who are coming off back-to-back losses. The Giants are gaining some traction after turning in consecutive wins - however, those have come in the form of a come-from-behind victory over the two-win 49ers and a three-point win against the Bucs. We like Philly to bounce back here with what's essentially its season on the line. The Eagles have fluctuated between -5 and -6 all week, but a more appealing -5.5 is also available with some 'books.Extra PointsMiami Dolphins at Indianapolis ColtsRecommended Pick: Dolphins' team total over 20.5The Colts' defense has left a lot to be desired, allowing 5.6 yards per play and 5.9 when adjusting for strength of schedule. The Dolphins are coming off a bye week and should have plenty of opportunities for points in the dome on Sunday.Green Bay Packers at Minnesota VikingsRecommended Pick: Vikings -3This could be the turning point for the Vikings, who dropped a pivotal NFC North game last weekend against the Bears. It was a tough draw for starting quarterback Kirk Cousins, whose lack of success in the big game - he fell to 4-12 in prime-time contests with that loss in Chicago - is again a hot topic. Between that narrative and the line dropping from 4.5 to 3, we believe the Vikings will rise to the occasion against a Packers defense that does not travel well.Top plays: 21-9-2 (70 percent)Overall record: 33-19-1 (63.5 percent)Alex Kolodziej is theScore's betting writer. Beckham reflects on iconic grab: 'My career is much more than 1 catch'
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. became a national sensation with an iconic one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys precisely four years ago. It's a grab that some have described as the best catch of all-time, but Beckham, now in his fifth season, wants to be remembered for more than just that spectacular reception."It's bittersweet because I think my career is much more than one catch," Beckham said Friday, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. "But it was a very iconic moment and just a prolific moment in my career. I don't mind getting tagged on Instagram and seeing a bunch of nice catches. It gives me motivation to do something crazier."Beckham has since established himself as one of the NFL's marquee wide receivers, earning three consecutive Pro Bowl nods from 2014-16, and was rewarded with a five-year, $95-million extension in August. However, despite his prolific track record, Beckham can't escape his memorable catch."Honestly, any time some one-hand catch comes up, anything happens comes up and you hear the talks. It's funny when people are like, 'He's only this one-handed catch, blah, blah.' Yet any time a catch happens, I'm compared to it," Beckham said. "It was a moment that obviously changed my life forever, for better or for worse, whatever you want to call it. It changed my life."There is no way that I can ever forget about that moment. I can tell you, I remember the smell of the stadium. I can remember it all. So it's a very special moment."Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Texans owner Bob McNair dies
Houston Texans owner and founder Bob McNair died Friday, the team announced."It is with deep sadness that we announce Houston Texans founder, senior chairman, and chief executive officer and philanthropist Robert C. McNair passed away peacefully in Houston today with his loving wife, Janice, and his family by his side," the Texans said.McNair lobbied the NFL to bring a team back to Houston after the Oilers departed to Nashville and became the Tennessee Titans. After the city of Los Angeles failed to put a viable plan together for a new franchise, McNair's private company, Houston NFL Holdings, offered a $700-million bid for a new team, which the league's owners approved unanimously in October 1999."During his nearly two decades as an NFL owner, Bob McNair left a lasting mark on his city and our league. His leadership and determination brought the NFL back to Houston, built a magnificent stadium that hosted two Super Bowls, and his beloved Texans are in the midst of another successful season are again contending for a place in the postseason," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.McNair's son, Cal, who serves as the Texans' chief operating officer, is expected to take over ownership duties, according to NFL.com's Judy Battista.Team president Jamey Rootes released a statement in the wake of McNair's death."We lost an incredible man today," Rootes said in the statement. "Bob McNair had a positive impact on so many people's lives. He was a role model as a father, husband, philanthropist, and businessman. He was the reason professional football returned to Houston and he stewarded our franchise with a laser focus on honesty, integrity, and high character. He was an amazing champion for Houston and worked hard to make sure our city received maximum value from the presence of the Texans and the NFL. Bob gave me an opportunity 19 years ago to be part of the creation of the Texans and he became my mentor, hero, and father figure. We will all miss him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the McNair family during this difficult time."McNair, born in 1937, made his fortune with Cogen Technologies, which he later sold to Enron in 1999 for $1.5 billion.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc. Top WR prospect Metcalf declares for NFL draft
Redshirt sophomore wide receiver D.K. Metcalf announced Friday his decision to forgo his final two years of eligibility at Ole Miss and declare for the NFL draft."I had a month to weigh my options," Metcalf told Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel. "I prayed to God and told Him to put the right decision in me. After meeting with coach (Matt) Luke, they did everything they could to give me the right information, and I made my choice."Metcalf has been out since October after suffering a season-ending neck injury against Arkansas, although he expects to be cleared to fully participate in all football activities in January. The Rebels wideout, who stands 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, has generated buzz as a potential first-round pick due to his intriguing combination of size and speed and could be one of the first receivers off the board in next April's draft.Metcalf accumulated 26 receptions, 569 yards, and five touchdowns during his final campaign at Ole Miss.Copyright © 2018 Score Media Ventures Inc.
