I currently have one and love it. My question is why is the bullet grain maxed out at 20 grains? I tried looking up a few articles to read why that is, but they all just said it maxes out at 20. I am not a bullet- smith or understand bullet making. I would assume it has something to do with bullet restriction on material and head space. TL:DR Why is 17hmr stuck at 20-grain bullets? submitted by /u/BloodFlakePaaltomo

I saw a Christensen Arms 1911 in a LGS and don't know anything about the company. I checked their website and did a little bit of searching to see what I could find out. Looks like they are known for their long guns and they stopped making 1911s. From what I read their 1911s are solid and use to sell in for $1,200 and up. Looking for anyone with first hand knowledge. The one I found is $1,195. This being my first 1911, I would love to score a great LGS find, as this pistol is beautiful but.... I don't want to pay 1k for a lightly used gun that is know to be a POS, I would rather go back to looking at the S&W I was originally thinking about. submitted by /u/needtoredit

Beginner: where to start TL;DR I finally want to start with the shooting hobby and I'm looking to get tips on what gun to begin with, in .22 or 9mm and what I should proceed with later to really start IPSC practice. I am left handed. Thanks! Hi all, I'm a Belgian guy reaching my 30's soon and always wanted to get involved in the sport of shooting. I think that IPSC is the discipline that appeals the most to me. My father was and is against (for the Americans here; gun culture is waaaay different in Europe than in the USA) and never allowed me to. Now that I finally live quite near (30min drive) a shooting range where IPSC can be practiced and only 5min from a 'normal' shooting range I'm thinking now is the right time to get started. I have tried reading a bit all over and there seem to be 2 major routes that I can take:

A while ago I saw an expert on YouTube comparing the realism of a certain video game's guns, and I was amazed by his knowledge, but I never understood Jack about caliber, models, how they work, components and history. I've been curious for a while, I want to understand more about this topic, do you know any website, book, YouTube channel or something that can help satisfy my thirst for knowledge? Edit: I posted it before finishing the post.

I submitted a rebate request to Winchester from their holiday rebate they had back in January. Last week I still hadn’t received my check even though their website showed the rebate form received back in February. I reached out to support on April 11 notifying them that I still hadn’t received the check, and looking for an update on status. They informed me that allegedly they had mailed the rebate on April 3rd. I finally received the check in the mail today and it was clearly marked as having been shipped on April 11.. the day I reached out to them… This is just a PSA to stay on top of them - I’m a fan of Winchester but this whole scenario is a little suspicious to me. submitted by /u/TheStevest

I know that the Foxtrot Mike FM-15 and CMMG DISSENT both utilize the Stoner gas system in a novel way, but I'm curious if the system has ever been used outside of the AR platform. submitted by /u/AddictedToComedy

I just started getting in to guns not too long ago, so I don't have a whole lot of experience with different kinds or calibers. My son wants me to take him shooting and I think this might be an opportunity to bond with him and do something fun together. If it becomes a hobby of ours, I was thinking of buying him his own pistol later on. I'm just not sure what a good starter pistol would be for a 9-10 year old boy would be. Any suggestions? I'd like something that's a good quality brand but also something that looks cool to a kid. Thanks for the help. submitted by /u/Savage_Ass_MF

So I'm looking at getting a 556 right now and have been trying to find something that can handle extremely salty conditions. I basically live in salt water and my current boat gun is a cheap 410. I've been trying to combat rust with it for a while now but even with me completely tearing it apart and cleaning it every time I go out on the boat it is still starting to surface rust in some places. Is aluminum the best bet. I've found an all aluminum pistol that I was thinking about getting but have been also looking at getting me a rifle. Are there all aluminum rifles that aren't 22. I saw some carbon fiber stuff but that's out of my price range. submitted by /u/AdWrong3461

My M&P 9 2.0 is light striking. I installed an apex trigger about 6 months ago and it was shooting well until about last month. It started light striking and sometimes even not striking at all. I saw on a blog post that an Ed Brown extended striker block would fix the problem. I installed it and didn't fix the problem and now it sometimes shoots 2 rounds with one trigger pull. What could be wrong with it? submitted by /u/ChayitoRBN

Mostly just hoped I could get some questions answers. Still think yall would just enjoy this. I do, you don't find stuff like this everyday. Are these legal to sell with a serial number in them? Might be a stupid question but I'm not super versed in gun law. Is there some obligation to find the gun it matches? submitted by /u/NAMESPAMMMMMM

A VRF 14 is not a shotgun, AOW, or a pistol. It is classified as a "firearm." Are "firearms" exempt from the pistol brace rule? Can you put a vertical grip on them? No one has been talking about this and the ATF is not helpful either. (I'm fairly certain putting a pistol brace on a Vrf 14 makes it a short barreled shotgun at this point, but I can't find any guidance. ) submitted by /u/6942oogabooga6942069

Looking to see if anyone has a reliable electronic ear BUD recommendation. High NRR, good fitment, not crap, not a gazillion dollars. Looking for more convenience than active muffs, especially with glasses. Also looking for a range bag/backpack that can organize 1-4 (or more) pistols, ammo, mags, cleaning crap, tools, eyes and ears, etc. I am going to start shooting regularly so maybe 1-2 guns. But when I bring my kids we like to bring an arsenal and I hate having to bring 17 bags, cases, and ammo cans. submitted by /u/rmanTX

Recently I’ve been interested in black powder weapons. I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask questions on this, please let know if it’s not and where I should go if that’s the case. I’ve never owned a firearm and am not interested in owning a modern firearm, but I am interested in black powder muskets. I know that NJ laws regarding guns are stricter than most, but how do NJ laws apply against reproduction muskets? submitted by /u/rubychoco99

I just bought a 10/22 carbine w/ a Viridian EON 3-9x40 scope for a total of $320 (solid deal I’d say) Once I bought it and got home, I began looking into upgrading the magazine release lever to a timber creek extended lever, which lead me down the rabbit hole of all the aftermarket pieces out there I started thinking well wait… if I upgrade the stock to a new one like the magpul hunter x22, and then purchase a threaded barrel.. and then a new trigger… and then a new bolt… etc. I came to the realization , should I have just bought all the aftermarket pieces right of the bat and build it from scratch if I’m seeking to upgrade like 90% of my stock 10/22 carbine anyway? I feel like I spent money on the wrong decision and kinda regretting the entire purchase despite it being a good sale and a great beginner hunter rifle? To those who are still reading this, what are your thoughts? Have you gone the same route and regretted it? Most of all, should I just return it and pay the 15% restocking fee and proceed to restart from the Scratch?? Lmk fellow peeps! submitted by /u/Cozyboy98

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to shooting, and I shoot at an indoor range with both ear plugs (wax) and ear muffs (Howard Leight Impact Pro). This seems to be perfectly fine for my guns (9mm pistol and 5.56mm rifle), but the guy in the lane next to me yesterday was shooting something that sounded like a cannon and caused a perceptible change in air pressure every time he fired. Even with the double ear protection, my ears are ringing today after hearing 20-30 shots from my lane neighbor. Is there anything I can do to avoid this in the future? I'm open to buying more expensive ear protection, but I'm not sure what the next step up would be from the Impact Pro that I have now. Are custom fitted ear plugs going to be significantly more effective than moldable wax plugs for the inner layer of protection? Should I just leave my gear in the lane and go take a walk around the lobby every time this guy loads a new magazine? submitted by /u/euthanatos

Hello, I saw a YouTube video that was uploaded 5 years ago, and in it, the family managed to track down, buy, and present the exact M1 Garand that a WWII Marine used, however, they did not divulge how they did that. I am curious to see if I could do that with the M1 Garand that my late Great-grandfather used in the war. How would they have gone about doing so? I have his severance papers and I have his rank and serial number, but I am not sure where to go from there. EDIT: His serial number, not the rifle. submitted by /u/dpceee

I posted my Beretta Bobcat earlier and am thinking about polishing the areas that make contact so it’s a little more smooth. Some I can hit with a dremel with a fabric wheel, but some I can’t. Could I put some compound in there and rack the slide a bunch or is that a bad idea? Obviously clean and lube it before shooting submitted by /u/WhereDaGold
