Russell Wilson's improved play was one of the Denver Broncos' lone bright spots this season prior to Thursday's game with the Kansas City Chiefs. But the quarterback's apparent revival came to an abrupt end in the prime-time loss, with Wilson producing one of the worst games of his career as Denver fell to 1-5."We had a chance, we've got to play better, cleaner," Wilson said after the 19-8 defeat, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN. "I've got to play better. That starts with me."Wilson completed 13 of 22 passes for just 95 yards and one touchdown against two interceptions. He was sacked four times while struggling to extend plays with his legs in his signature style. The 34-year-old also yielded the lowest EPA per dropback rate of his career, per Larry Holder of The Athletic.Denver's much-maligned defense held its own against the high-flying Chiefs, limiting Patrick Mahomes and Co. to just one touchdown on 11 drives. The Broncos' offense, however, failed to get on the board until wide receiver Courtland Sutton made an athletic one-handed touchdown grab to cut the Chiefs' lead to eight points with just over six minutes to go.Mahomes then quickly led Kansas City into field-goal range, and Harrison Butker put the game away for the reigning champions."I thought our defense played great tonight," said Wilson, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "They battled all night. They came up with a pick, our defense did, and could have had two. They did a really great job keeping us in the game. Offensively, we had some really good things, and then the two turnovers by me were unacceptable. That can't happen."Wilson appeared to have put his 2022 struggles behind him following the arrival of head coach Sean Payton. In the first five games of the season, he threw for nine touchdowns against two interceptions and produced two 300-yard performances.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton isn't happy with his decision to call a timeout after Russell Wilson was sacked on third down in the final seconds of the first half in Thursday's 19-8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs."That's a boneheaded mistake by me," Payton said postgame, according to Andrew Mason of Denver Sports. "They were calling one as well, and I'm off a down. But that was stupid."The Chiefs sacked Wilson on a third down with 28 seconds left at Denver's 40-yard line. Instead of letting the clock run out to force Kansas City into using one of its three timeouts before the punt, Payton stopped the clock, leaving Patrick Mahomes and Co. in a great position for their final drive before halftime. Things got worse for Denver during the punt after a penalty gave K.C. an extra 5 yards.Starting from Kansas City's 39-yard line, the Mahomes-led offense only needed two plays to put the ball in Denver territory and set up a successful Harrison Butker field goal from 60 yards. Butker converted all four of his attempts, including a clutch 52-yarder at the two-minute warning of the fourth quarter. In the end, those three points made a difference for the Broncos, who lost by 11 and had a possession late in the fourth."I told our players I was disappointed, but honestly ... I'm not discouraged. I thought they played hard, defensively, particularly, we did a great job," Payton added, according to 9News. Payton joined the Denver this past offseason to replace Nathaniel Hackett. The Broncos limited Mahomes to only one touchdown pass and the Chiefs to 3.6 yards per rushing attempt. Kansas City scored only one TD in five red-zone trips. However, Denver's offense struggled and turned the ball over three times. Wilson was intercepted twice and finished the night with 95 passing yards, the third-worst mark of his career.Denver has now lost 16 straight games to Kansas City, including 12 with Mahomes under center. The 1-5 Broncos will host the Green Bay Packers in Week 7 before facing the Chiefs again.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Over a dozen former and current Arizona Cardinals employees accused team owner Michael Bidwill of creating a toxic workplace built on "fear," according to The Athletic's Kalyn Kahler.Employees said Bidwill fostered an "outdated, archaic, (and) constricted" environment that dictated how women should dress and interact with male football staff and players. Women were also prohibited from certain areas of the team facility.Bidwill, who inherited the franchise after his father Bill died in 2019, is also alleged to have scolded employees for laughing too loudly, walking too slowly, and using softer lighting in the office, among other minor complaints. The franchise didn't have a dedicated human resource director from 2008 until 2021. Arizona also didn't have a fully staffed HR department until 2022. Some employees remained frightened that they'd lose their jobs if they brought their concerns to the team's HR department.Employees said they expressed concerns in a 2019 employment survey. Former front office executive Terry McDonough said Bidwill halted the survey after an expansive initial round of responses criticized the Cardinals' culture and primarily blamed Bidwill. In a statement Thursday, a team spokesperson denied that the organization ignored the 2019 survey, insisting that multiple initiatives arose from it, including the creation of the Chief People Officer role.In January 2020, former COO Ron Minegar delivered a three-page letter to Bidwill indicating that employees were "working in fear."The Cardinals owner had reportedly yelled at Minegar during a presentation after the former COO was arrested for extreme DUI in August 2019. Bidwell is alleged to have said, "I wanted to fire your ass" and "Don't f-----g do it again."The report is the latest to feature complaints against Bidwill. McDonough filed an arbitration claim in April alleging that the team owner devised a plan to use burner phones to illegally communicate with then-general manager Steve Keim, who was suspended for DUI, in 2018. McDonough also alleged that Bidwill mistreated pregnant and Black employees.Former Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks also gave testimony that supported McDonough's claim this past August.Bidwill issued a statement to The Athletic in response to the allegations."As I have said personally to every member of the Cardinals organization, I certainly have room to grow, and with the benefit of hindsight, would have done some things differently over the years," he wrote. "I also know that my direct approach doesn't always land well, and I'm working on that. I have always been driven by the desire to learn and improve and more importantly, to use those lessons in building the best organization possible."Over the last several years, we have taken significant steps to improve our culture and build a stronger community. We are a better and more inclusive organization today than we were yesterday and I'm extremely excited about what we can be tomorrow."Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Fans tuning into the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos can expect to see less of Taylor Swift than usual during the broadcast.Play-by-play announcer Al Michaels told Sports Illustrated's Jimmy Traina that Amazon plans to be restrained in its coverage of the pop star."What we're gonna do tonight, everything in moderation," Michaels said. "Our crew talked about it this morning. You can't make a sideshow the show. The vast majority of the audience are tuning in to watch a football game. There are people, I don't know how many, it could be a sizable number, but it's certainly not a majority, that if you trained the camera on her all night long, they'd be satisfied with that. This is not what we're doing. ..."There might be an appropriate shot or a couple. I don't know what the number is going to be. If (Travis) Kelce scores six touchdowns, who the hell knows what we're going to do. But for the most part, just in moderation. The game is still the important element here. ... After that, you sort of make it, one of my favorite words, farcical."Swift plans to be at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, TMZ reports, to cheer on the Chiefs and her new love interest, tight end Kelce. She attended the Chiefs' 41-10 win over the Chicago Bears on Sept. 24 and their 23-20 victory over the New York Jets on Oct. 1.Kelce called out the NFL and NBC Sports for their coverage of Swift during the Chiefs-Jets game, saying they were "overdoing it a little bit."He is listed as questionable for Thursday's matchup due to a knee injury but is expected to play.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf provided some bulletin-board material to Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase ahead of Sunday's matchup.Metcalf expressed his admiration for Chase's game during a press conference Wednesday before adding a small dig at his Week 6 opponent."The long ball that I think (Joe) Burrow threw to him, like a 70-yard bomb, (I appreciate) just how effortlessly he caught the ball," Metcalf said. "He's just a great receiver. I tip my hat off to him with what he's done the first three years in the league. So, it'll be fun to watch Sunday."But I think Spoon will get the best of him."Devon Witherspoon has quickly impressed those outside Seattle's locker room early in his rookie campaign. The 2023 fifth overall selection recorded his first career interception and took it back 97 yards for his first career touchdown in the Week 4 win over the New York Giants. The 22-year-old has racked up 23 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two sacks in three games of action. He'll likely be tasked with covering Chase on Sunday. The prolific wideout was named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week after recording a franchise-record 15 receptions to go along with 192 receiving yards and three touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.The Seahawks could be down a pair of cornerbacks as Coby Bryant (toe) and Artie Burns (hamstring) continue to work their way back from injuries.Witherspoon has earned a 72.3 coverage grade after allowing 11 receptions for 114 yards and one score prior to Seattle's bye week.Metcalf praised the Illinois product for bringing the same intensity to games that he's shown during practice."He's been fun to watch. It was a great pick," he said.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

For a moment, it looked like we might have a McDuck situation on our hands. We clinched a profit on our weekly guilty pleasure parlay with the Steelers' comeback win, along with Colts and Jaguars victories. Then it was up to the Vikings and Rams, who were each neck-and-neck with a defending conference champion. The lesson might be: Don't mess with the apex of the league. The Cowboys, Bills, Jaguars, and Commanders have suffered the biggest upsets in the NFL so far this season. If Deshaun Watson was healthy, we might take a shot against the 49ers this week, but not with PJ Walker at the helm. How it worksWe parlay five underdogs together - which we also bet against the spread - in 10 different three-team parlays. Using every combination of a three-team parlay is called a round robin, so we'll use a total of 1.1 units to make 11 different bets: 10 three-team parlays and one five-team parlay, each for .1 units. You'll likely double your money if three teams pull off the upset. If four teams win, you're connecting on four separate parlays and will be very pleased with the return. If all five teams win, you'll be diving into a gold doubloon silo like a young Scrooge McDuck.Who to playTitans (+170) over RavensIt's possible that the Ravens - who went straight to London on Sunday night - have the travel thing figured out. The Jaguars certainly looked far more sorted than the Bills did last week. However, the Titans are back in their preferred role as the underdog. The trend of all trends - underdogs in Ravens-Steelers matchups - was reliable enough to strike again last week because of the familiarity of the parties involved. And although it's been a minute, Titans coach Mike Vrabel has done well against Lamar Jackson, even in the quarterback's prime. Vrabel's teams have compelled Jackson to try to do too much, and he's turned the ball over five times compared to just one passing touchdown. Even if the Titans aren't operating a jet-lag prevention plan, we'll still see if their good run defense can make Jackson force the issue.Colts (+175) over JaguarsSpeaking of the Jaguars, they were the beneficiaries of significant biorhythmic advantage in their upset - but coming home after two weeks in England to face a team they already struggled against once isn't ideal.Don't worry about Gardner Minshew. He's been more than adequate when subbing for Anthony Richardson midgame, and the Colts can take advantage of a Jacksonville pass defense that's allowed 7.2 yards per pass attempt.Jacksonville's record as a home favorite hasn't improved since we last cited it - right before the Jags lost to the Texans as bigger favorites than this. More action for Jonathan Taylor and a Colts defense that's getting healthier bode well for the upset chances.Commanders (+120) over FalconsGetting embarrassed at home in prime time should have the Commanders' attention. Meanwhile, the Falcons needed an out-of-body experience from Desmond Ridder to barely beat Houston. Atlanta should have been able to dominate the trenches, but the Falcons couldn't turn that into a convincing win.Don't expect Atlanta to pull off the kind of big passing plays that Justin Fields connected with D.J. Moore on. Instead, Washington's defensive line will give the Falcons more trouble than they got from the Texans. Yet another Falcons home game will come down to the wire, and we'll be on the side paying out at plus money.Patriots (+145) over RaidersNever again!I said it too last week when the Patriots flipped from underdogs to favorites, only to get blown out by the Saints. However, what we should say in that instance is "Never again at this rating." New England was being considered a purely average team with a 50/100 market rating. That was obviously wrong.I don't know about you, but I'm not upgrading the Raiders off their win over the Packers. Josh McDaniels' decision-making still seems haphazard, he's going against his mentor with a quarterback Bill Belichick knows well, and the Raiders can't run the ball any better than the Patriots.A point spread of a full field goal implies a massive downgrade to the Patriots, and maybe they are among the worst teams in the league, but that wasn't the case for the first three games of their season. More likely, we're getting a price on a game that should still be a pick'em.Cardinals (+255) over RamsWith a defensive DVOA ranked 30th in the NFL, the Cardinals' defense can be scored on - often with ease. However, the Rams are 27th in the same category. That should make for a more entertaining game than you might have expected from this matchup - and it also lends itself to the volatility ideal for producing an upset. The Rams have been bet up to 7-point favorites and a moneyline this high because, with Cooper Kupp healthy, they're being rated around where they were when he and Matthew Stafford got hurt last year. This might be too much, too soon for a group that hasn't been a significant favorite all season. How the odds look this week:PARLAYODDS (Approx.)TEN+IND+WSH+1500TEN+IND+NE+1700TEN+IND+ARI+2500TEN+WSH+NE+1350TEN+WSH+ARI+2000TEN+NE+ARI+2250IND+WSH+NE+1400IND+WSH+ARI+2000IND+NE+ARI+2300WSH+NE+ARI+1800TEN+IND+WSH+NE+ARI+14000Who are your five underdogs for a football betting lottery ticket?Matt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore. An ankle injury has hindered Odell Beckham Jr.'s first season with the Baltimore Ravens, and the wide receiver opened up about the difficulties of dealing with another ailment so soon after making his return from a torn ACL."It's been tough. I've worked my ass off for a long time since (suffering a torn ACL in) that Super Bowl," said Beckham on Thursday, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. "Just to have a small, small setback that you never saw coming, it's just unfortunate."Beckham sat out all of the 2022 season with the major knee injury he suffered while a member of the Los Angeles Rams. He exited the Ravens' Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals after hurting his ankle. While the injury was deemed not to be serious, the veteran pass-catcher missed two games before returning for last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 30-year-old struggled to make an impact versus Pittsburgh, catching just two passes for 13 yards to take his season tally to seven catches for 79 yards and zero touchdowns. The Ravens are in London to face off with the Tennessee Titans in Week 6, and Beckham hopes to begin living up to the one-year, $15-million deal he signed in free agency."How can I get back on track? I would absolutely love that to start Sunday," he said.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Wide receiver Chase Claypool is eager to prove himself with the Miami Dolphins following an unceremonious end to his time with the Chicago Bears."I think that when you lose a lot of games in a row, there's frustration, naturally," Claypool said Wednesday after his first practice with the Dolphins, per the Miami Herald's Daniel Oyefusi and Barry Jackson."Being excited (to get) some wins ... just comes naturally," he added. "And once you start winning, things start getting less frustrating, obviously."Prior to the trade, the 25-year-old said he didn't think Chicago was putting him in the best possible position to succeed. The wideout was made a healthy scratch and told to stay away from the team following his comments.Miami acquired Claypool in an Oct. 6 trade that included a late-round pick swap.Claypool said he's "excited for the new opportunity" to work with head coach Mike McDaniel and a talented offense that features Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylen Waddle. Fellow wideout River Cracraft is on injured reserve, and Erik Ezukanma remains on the non-football injury list.Claypool burst onto the NFL scene, catching 121 passes for 1,733 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, the Notre Dame product struggled to provide a significant impact after being dealt to Chicago last November, recording 18 receptions for 191 yards and one score in 10 games.McDaniel is taking an open-minded approach to Claypool's role in the offense."I think we'll see what that looks like, because (you) don't have that many reps in a regular-season game of this at the receiver position, specifically," McDaniel said. The Dolphins coach also clarified that the 6-foot-4, 238-pound Claypool will line up at receiver after speculation that he could moonlight at tight end. However, McDaniel didn't rule out the possibility of a position switch."If he's able to execute certain things, I'm not going to limit a player to what he can or can't do," McDaniel said.Claypool was inactive in Week 5. He could make his debut this Sunday when the Dolphins play the Carolina Panthers.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Hopes were high for this matchup when it was scheduled, but with no Drew Brees in sight, "Sean Payton's Broncos" with Russell Wilson have looked a lot like last season's "Russell Wilson's Broncos." It's still a mismatch. The problem is that last year's matchups between the two teams saw the Broncos cover big numbers against the Chiefs. With another double-digit spread on Thursday night, can Denver do it again?Broncos @ Chiefs (-10.5, 49.5)We're loathe to lay big points in the NFL, but let's make a case for doing it this week. The Broncos' defense is so much worse than it was last year. Currently, they're allowing an opponent quarterback rating of 124.6. The quarterbacks they've faced are Jimmy Garoppolo, Sam Howell, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Fields, and Zach Wilson. Only Tagovailoa is in the top 10 in QB rating despite them all getting a boost from playing the Broncos as one of their five games this season. There's still plenty of time left for the Broncos to lower that number, but the worst team in this category historically was the 2015 Saints at 116.2. You get one guess as to who their head coach was.Oh, have we mentioned Patrick Mahomes is up next on the docket?Admittedly, there's some big-picture concern about the Chiefs' offense not being what it used to be. That's based on a small sample size for a unit that's been incredible for years. The Broncos' defense is the perfect salve for whatever ails Kansas City, as they're 22nd in opponent red-zone efficiency. That's especially true on a short week since the Chiefs are a "set it and forget it" group who don't need to make significant adjustments week-to-week.While the Broncos' offense has improved from last year, their red-zone efficiency has slipped to the middle of the pack, and the Chiefs are in the top 10 in the fewest touchdowns allowed. From a yards-per-play standpoint, the Chiefs (4.9) have been better than the Jets (5.1) - by far the best defense the Broncos have faced this season - and are getting one of their key defenders, Nick Bolton, back this week.High winds are in the forecast, which limits the Broncos' quick-strike capability - which they've had success with this season - forcing them into longer drives. No amount of wind can help Denver's defense. What might help is the potential absence of Travis Kelce, who's been limited in practice leading up to Thursday. Wait to get the verdict on his availability. If he's ruled out, the line may drop to -10 or below, which would be a great buy point on the Chiefs even without him. If he's OK to play, then fire away on -10.5.The Broncos lost by 10 last week at home to Zach Wilson when the Jets went 0-for-5 in the red zone. They won't be so fortunate with the Chiefs' offense, and this game could get out of hand quickly.Pick: Chiefs (-10.5)Jerick McKinnon: Over 13.5 receiving yards (-115)Tailback usage for Kansas City can be dicey, but McKinnon knows his role, and his relevance is matchup-dependent. He's been used in four of five Chiefs games this season, and in three of those games, he's caught at least two passes for 18-plus yards and nabbed a 10-yard reception in the other. Will he be used against the Broncos? Here are his numbers in two games against Denver last year:

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen defended Stefon Diggs after a viral video of the receiver vividly expressing his frustrations on the sideline in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars."People are throwing different ideas about what he was mad at on the sideline. He was mad at himself for running the wrong release on a route," Allen said Wednesday, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "He's a competitor, he's a fiery competitor. I'm tired of hearing all this nonsense from people. There's a lot of guys in the league who have that fire who don't get talked about."Diggs was seen slamming a tablet down and throwing it on the ground on the sideline in the third quarter versus Jacksonville.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins isn't worried about the speculation regarding his future ahead of the Oct. 31 trade deadline."I am just very focused on the (Chicago) Bears and going 1-0 this week," Cousins said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. "And anything else is not worth my time or energy or attention."It's been rumored that the 1-4 Vikings could move some of their veteran players with expiring contracts, including Cousins. The four-time Pro Bowler has been mentioned as a potential target for the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons. The 35-year-old declined to answer whether he would consider waiving the no-trade clause in his contract this season, per Seifert.Cousins, who's been in Minnesota since 2018, insisted he isn't aware of the speculation around the NFL."Ignorance is bliss, and I'm just really ignorant," he said. "I don't really have access to a whole lot, and I try to do that by design. So it's pretty intentional."The Michigan State product added, "I really don't know what's going on. I've been insulated at times to the point of being naive and a little stupid, but I'd rather err on that side than consuming everything."A fourth-round pick in 2012, Cousins spent his first six seasons with the Washington Commanders before joining the Vikings, with whom he's started 85 games. He's completed 67.2% of his passes and leads the league in completions (137), attempts (204), and touchdown passes (13) in 2023. His 101.7 passer rating currently ranks seventh. It won't be easy for the Vikings - who visit the Bears in Week 6 before hosting the San Francisco 49ers - to bounce back, as they recently lost reigning Offensive Player of the Year Justin Jefferson to a hamstring injury. The star receiver has been placed on injured reserve and will miss at least four games. The Vikings currently have a 41.5% chance of earning a top-10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a 13% chance of being in the top five, according to ESPN. Next year's quarterback-heavy draft class presumably will be headlined by USC's Caleb Williams and North Carolina's Drake Maye, among other stud passers.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Panthers head coach Frank Reich believes Carolina needs to simplify its approach to bounce back after starting the season with five straight losses."Every coach would tell you when you're 0-5, what's the answer? Do more? No. The answer is: Do less," Reich said before Wednesday's practice, according to USA Today's Anthony Rizzuti. "Every coach (in) the history of the NFL. 'Hey, we're 0-5, we're 0-3, we're 0-4': Do less. Do less. Does that mean you gave him too much? Maybe, maybe not. I don't know the answer to that."Reich's comments come after sources told CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones on Sunday that rookie quarterback Bryce Young was getting an overload of information. The Panthers traded up in the 2023 draft to select Young with the No. 1 pick. However, the Alabama product has failed to meet expectations early in his career. Young, who's missed one game with an ankle injury, has completed 63.9% of his passes for 750 yards and five touchdowns against four interceptions. His 77 passer rating ranks 29th among quarterbacks, and he's also suffered three fumbles, losing two.The Panthers - who rank in the bottom half of the league in points scored and allowed - are the only winless team left in the NFL this season."I just know we gotta get better because insanity is doing the same thing over, right?" said Reich, a former quarterback who joined the Panthers this past offseason after spending five years as the Indianapolis Colts' head coach."So, that's what we do as coaches. Not for the quarterback, for the whole team. We did it on offense, we did it on defense, we did it on special teams. Simplify, simplify, simplify. Do the basics. Let the players play fast. ... Sometimes, it just works out to get you back on track and in rhythm."Carolina visits the 4-1 Miami Dolphins in Week 6 before going on a bye.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams was removed from the team's injury report heading into Week 6.Williams last played in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears but was only available on 17% of the team's offensive snaps. A quad injury has kept the 23-year-old sidelined. The former second-round pick was only available for four games last season due to a torn ACL but showed promise as a rookie in 2021. He totaled 1,219 total yards and seven touchdowns in his debut campaign while averaging five yards per touch.Williams returns to the Broncos in time to face the divisional rival Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football. The Chiefs have allowed 97.2 rushing yards and 16 points per game. Those marks rank 11th and tied for fifth in the NFL, respectively. The tailback has run for 138 yards and caught 11 passes for 51 yards this season.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson isn't worried about the dropped passes that plagued the team in their 17-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday."I believe our guys are locked in right now," Jackson said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. "They are going to be better. So will I."Baltimore receivers were credited with five drops in last weekend's loss. Tight end Mark Andrews and wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Rashod Bateman had one each, while rookie wideout Zay Flowers committed two drops.Jackson finished the loss with 236 yards through the air on 22-for-38 passing with one interception. The former MVP added 26 rushing yards on four carries. The signal-caller said he didn't find it necessary to address the issue directly with his receivers because "those guys feel how I feel. They want to make a play."Head coach John Harbaugh isn't fretting either, but he did acknowledge the drops played a role in last week's result."(Dropped passes) were a concern on Sunday," said Harbaugh. "I mean, that was a big part of the game. They don't need (to be) a concern going forward because we need to take care of business in that area. That's what receivers do. They catch the ball."The 61-year-old coach added that the Ravens' weapons "are going to catch those balls 99 out of 100 times."Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. He's the focal point of an explosive offense on the undefeated 49ers and will earn a ton of votes if his production continues. To make McCaffrey's case stronger, he's sixth on the MVP oddsboard at +400 behind five quarterbacks, one of whom is his own signal-caller, Brock Purdy. The next closest non-quarterback is Micah Parsons at +5000.Hot on McCaffrey's tail in the OPOY race is Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins speedster leads the NFL in receiving yards and is tied for the most receiving touchdowns. Like the 49ers, the Dolphins also have one of the league's best offenses, led by MVP candidate Tua Tagovailoa. If everyone in Miami can stay in the field, Hill should be able to maintain this elite level of production and make it a close race with McCaffrey. But injuries can happen - just ask Justin Jefferson.Jefferson went from one of the favorites to win the award to +5000 after the Vikings said he'd be put on IR with a hamstring injury. Missing at least four games is detrimental to a player's resume for this award regardless of what they accomplish when healthy. With that in mind, there could be some value further down the board. McCaffrey doesn't have the cleanest track record when it comes to health.Keenan Allen is +4000 and is 10th in receiving yards despite playing one fewer game due to a Week 5 bye. If the Chargers can go on a run that many expect from a team led by Justin Herbert, Allen should see a ton of volume in the passing game. With Mike Williams sidelined for the year, Allen could put up some monster numbers. In that same line of thinking, Austin Ekeler is +10000 and should return from injury in Week 6. He can't afford to miss another game and would need to dominate from here on out, but there are fewer players with as much upside as Ekeler at +10000.Defensive Player of the Year oddsPlayerOddsMicah Parsons+200Myles Garrett+300T.J. Players above +3000 not listed. On the defensive side of the ball, a trio of pass-rushers lead the way.Parsons is the favorite as a member of what some consider the best defense in football. Surprisingly, he's never won the award but was the runner-up each of the past two seasons. If the Cowboys' defense finishes as one of the best groups in the league and Parsons is at - or near - the top in sacks and tackles for loss, it'll be hard for voters to pass on him for the third straight year. However, Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt are giving Parsons a run for his money, at least in the betting market.Garrett has 5.5 sacks in four games and is third in the league behind Watt and Nick Bosa in quarterback hits. The Browns' season doesn't look as promising as it did at the beginning of the year, so Garrett may have to put the team on his back if he's going to win this award.Watt, who won the award in 2021, leads the league in sacks with eight. He tied Michael Strahan's NFL record of 22.5 sacks in his award-winning year and is on pace to surpass that total this season. If Watt breaks his own record, he should earn his second DPOY award.Bosa at +1500 is interesting. The 49ers look like the best team in football right now, yet there's a chance no one on their offense wins an award. If Purdy doesn't win MVP and McCaffrey gets passed by Hill to win OPOY, then voters may give Bosa back-to-back DPOY titles to somewhat reward San Francisco for a fantastic year.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Minnesota Vikings placed star receiver Justin Jefferson on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, the team announced Wednesday. The 2022 Offensive Player of the Year will miss at least the next four games. The Vikings have the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, and Atlanta Falcons on the schedule. The exact timeline of Jefferson's return will be determined by his response to treatment, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. He's eligible to return to action ahead of the Vikings' matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Nov. 12.The All-Pro wideout, who never missed a game during his first three seasons in the league, left Minnesota's Week 5 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth quarter favoring his hamstring. Jefferson sustained the injury when he slipped on the turf while trying to make a cut on a route. The three-time Pro Bowler didn't return for the remainder of the game.Jefferson leads all Vikings pass-catchers with 36 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns through five games.Jordan Addison, K.J. Osborn, and tight end T.J. Hockenson will likely see an increase in targets with Jefferson on the mend. Wideouts N'Keal Harry and Trishton Jackson were also added to the active roster from the practice squad.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Miami Dolphins are placing star rusher De'Von Achane on injured reserve due to a knee injury, head coach Mike McDaniel announced Wednesday, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.Achane suffered the injury in the team's Week 5 win over the New York Giants, McDaniel revealed earlier this week. McDaniel didn't elaborate on how long the rookie running back could miss during his Monday press conference, calling it "trivial."The 2023 third-round pick will be eligible to return in Week 11. He's set to miss contests against the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, and Kansas City Chiefs before Miami embarks on its Week 10 bye.Achane has taken the NFL by storm since making his debut in Week 2. He's rushed for 460 yards and scored seven total touchdowns. He also recorded 100-plus yards in three straight games, including a 203-yard effort on the ground against the Denver Broncos in Week 3. He found the end zone four times in that game.Veteran back Raheem Mostert leads the Dolphins' backfield with 58 carries. He's rushed for 314 yards and seven touchdowns, and he's averaged 5.4 yards per carry.Running back Jeff Wilson's 21-day practice window begins Wednesday, McDaniel said. Wilson has missed the start of the season with a rib injury. The Dolphins' high-octane offense is averaging a league-leading 36.2 points per game this season.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Tom Brady insists he's hung up his football cleats for good after retiring from the NFL for a second time. The future Hall of Fame quarterback was joined on Monday's episode of his SiriusXM podcast "Let's Go!" by YouTube star MrBeast, who suggested that Brady fake a comeback as a way to boost his ratings. Brady shot down the idea, though, joking that he would face the wrath of his family if he made such an announcement."I can't tease that," Brady said. "My parents would call, my kids would call. They'd kill me. I wouldn't be around by tonight."He added: "You're only allowed one retirement, one unretirement. And I've used it up."Brady retired for the first time on Feb. 1, 2022, only to reverse course 40 days later and announce that he was returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 23rd season. He made his second retirement announcement on Feb. 1, 2023.The 46-year-old is set to join Fox Sports in 2024 as an analyst after agreeing to a 10-year, $375-million deal with the network.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Despite being benched in two straight games, Mac Jones will start Sunday's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders."Yeah, we're not making any changes," New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday when asked if Jones would start, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.Jones was yanked in the midst of blowout losses to the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys over the last two weeks. New England went on to lose both of those games by a combined score of 72-3, dropping the club to 1-4 on the season.Belichick defended Jones following the Saints loss, telling reporters that it wasn't all the quarterback's fault and that he would remain the starter. The 25-year-old signal-caller and the rest of the Patriots' offense have been criticized heavily in response to the consecutive defeats. Jones threw for just 260 yards with zero touchdowns and four interceptions across the two contests, while the offense has committed six total turnovers. The Patriots have the worst offensive output in the NFL, averaging a measly 11 points per game. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is expected to miss four-to-eight weeks with a shoulder injury, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Richardson's return will depend on his rehab and whether he needs surgery to address the reported Grade 3 joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, Schefter adds. The Colts officially placed the rookie on injured reserve Wednesday, knocking him out for at least four games. The 21-year-old suffered the shoulder injury while being tackled on a designed quarterback run in the second quarter of Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans. He laid on the ground after the play and immediately signaled to the sideline that his right shoulder was injured. With Richardson sidelined, Gardner Minshew is set to be the Colts' starting quarterback. Minshew has completed just over 68% of his passes for two touchdowns and zero interceptions this season. The Colts are slated to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6. If you've run a survivor pool, you know the most shockingly annoying part: when someone picks the same team twice. The comptroller of the pool shouldn't have to monitor entrants breaking the lone rule - use each team once - since the entrant should be able to keep track of the handful of teams they've used. While picking a different team provides the construct for the strategy in the contest, the loophole is that we're always allowed to fade the same squad as many times as we like. Given that you have to select 18 different teams throughout a season, it often becomes less about taking a good team and more about pinpointing who's headed for a three-win season.Early on, you think fading the Rams, Texans, Buccaneers, and Cardinals might be a good idea. In the regular-season win total market, they were the four worst-rated teams at six wins or fewer. That group has won eight of 19 games this season, knocking out more than a few entrants who thought they would be easy pickings. If we could do it again, there's a group lined between seven and eight wins that would've been better targeted. The Bears, Giants, Patriots, and Panthers are a collective 3-17.The argument for "playing it safe" - as we've done by taking teams with higher win totals in Path B - is it's easier to rely on who's going to be good early in the season versus what team is going to be a mess and worthy of being picked on. Five weeks in, we now pivot to fading the bad teams. Though to survive Week 6, we'll blend the two poles.Every week until we get knocked out, we've mapped two paths to make it to the end of the season undefeated. As long as one of our entries still stands, we'll use the moneylines for our picks to show the odds of making it the distance traveled along the path. Once we're out, though, we're out.We could provide a series of theoretical rules to follow - like never take a road team - but the moneyline reflects a club's likelihood of winning each game. We can easily translate that into an implied win probability, listed in descending order in the chart below.Week 6 moneylinesTEAMMONEYLINEIMPLIED PROB.Bills-100090.9%Dolphins-90090.0%Chiefs-60085.7%Eagles-28073.7%Rams-28073.7%49ers-22569.2%Jaguars-21067.7%Ravens-18564.9%Lions-17563.6%Raiders-16562.3%Bengals-15560.8%Vikings-14559.2%Falcons-13557.4%Cowboys-13056.5%Saints-12054.5%Texans+10050.0%Chargers+11047.6%Commanders+11546.5%Bears+12544.4%Seahawks+13542.6%Patriots+14041.7%Buccaneers+15040.0%Titans+15539.2%Colts+17536.4%Browns+19034.5%Jets+23030.3%Cardinals+23030.3%Broncos+45018.2%Panthers+60014.3%Giants+70012.5%Survivor Path AKnocked out in Week 3. However, while they're obviously a solid choice, two things have become clearer every week this season. The first is that Miami is really good. That's not exactly breaking news, but the Phins' burgeoning quality increases the number of situations where they can be used later in the season. For example, a home game in two weeks against the Patriots has gone from an intriguing divisional battle that would be lined under a touchdown to one with a point spread closer to double digits.Although the Patriots have been a surprising trainwreck this year, the Giants - coming off a playoff berth last season - are more shocking as a terrible team. Their matchup against the Bills being a Sunday nighter shows that more was expected from them.Like any other high-quality team, there are other matchups where you could use Buffalo (Buccaneers, Broncos, Jets, Patriots). However, the defensive injuries are piling up for the Bills, and they're one or two away from those games getting a lot dicier. The Giants - potentially starting Tyrod Taylor - are so bad that the Bills' current depth chart is more than enough to get a home win in prime time.Pick: BillsMatt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore. With the first quarter of the season already in the books, the 2023 season has offered a ton of surprises and questions as the NFL's pecking order has begun to be revealed. We're here to break it all down. Here are the NFL's five biggest questions after just over a month of football:Are 49ers, Dolphins destined to reach Super Bowl? Ezra Shaw / Getty Images Sport / GettyNo two teams have been talked about more through the first five weeks of the season than the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins. With high-powered offenses and brilliant head coaches, these two teams are both on a Super Bowl trajectory. The only question: Can anyone stop them? The undefeated 49ers have looked like they're in a league of their own. San Francisco's plus-99 point differential through five weeks has only been replicated six times in the NFL since 2000. Kyle Shanahan's side is also only the sixth team in NFL history to score at least 30 points in each of its five games. Christian McCaffrey is back to rushing like a legitimate MVP candidate, while Brock Purdy has been the league's best facilitator. His 123.1 passer rating through five games compares to 2013 Peyton Manning's and 2007 Tom Brady's.The Dolphins have been almost a carbon copy of the 49ers, which is no surprise since head coach Mike McDaniel is a Shanahan disciple. Miami has multiple MVP candidates on offense with Tyreek Hill on pace for over 2,200 receiving yards and Tua Tagovailoa off to another great start. Don't forget that electric rookie rusher De'Von Achane was averaging an unthinkable 12.1 yards per carry prior to his knee injury. No offense has more speed than McDaniel's lightning-quick unit, which has scored the most points through five games (181) since 2015.Right now, there isn't a contender that can stand in either team's way. The 49ers sent shockwaves through the NFC by dismantling the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Meanwhile, only the Buffalo Bills have beaten Miami, but they also own a few concerning losses. Old superpowers like the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles must always be considered, though both seem a step behind where they were last season. Why hasn't Sean Payton fixed the Broncos? Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThe Broncos hit rock bottom in 2022 - or so they thought. By all accounts, their 2023 season has been worse. Sean Payton's squad actually owns a worse record at this point (1-4) than 2022 predecessor Nathaniel Hackett (2-3).Payton shouldn't be criticized for his offense. Denver ranks just outside the top 10 in scoring with 24.2 points per game. In terms of passing, Russell Wilson is playing like the Russ we saw during his final years in Seattle. What's more noticeable than Wilson's semi-revival under Payton is the giant bullseye the coach put on the Broncos after pounding his chest all offseason. Calling Hackett's 2022 performance "one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL" came back to bite Payton as the New York Jets - Hackett's new home - trounced Denver 31-21 in Week 5.However, the Broncos are primarily struggling because Payton decided to replace former defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero with Vance Joseph. Joseph's unit not only gave up 70 points in Week 3, it's been a season-long disaster in almost every defensive category.CategoryRankPoints per game32ndYards per game32ndYards per play32ndPassing yards allowed29thCompletion % allowed32ndPasser rating allowed32ndRushing yards allowed32ndPenalties committed32ndHow did Patriots, Bill Belichick fall this far? Winslow Townson / Getty Images Sport / GettyAll empires eventually come to an end. The Patriots are no exception to that rule. With Bill Belichick standing amongst the rubble of a crushed dynasty following one of the worst two-week stretches in franchise history, it's time to ask what toppled this two-decade-plus reign. The culprit is actually quite easy to spot. This team is boring and lacks talent, especially in the trenches. Lawrence Guy and Davon Godchaux are the lowest-graded interior defensive linemen by PFF. Injuries have a hand in the offensive line's demise, but everyone aside from Trent Brown and David Andrews has massively struggled. Vederian Lowe has surrendered the second-most pressures among all offensive tackles this season, per PFF. Atonio Mafi is the second-lowest-graded guard, while Michael Onwenu also ranks in the bottom 10. The sidelined Cole Strange hasn't been much better. This has all surely played a factor in Mac Jones' regression. The former first-rounder is averaging just six yards per pass, the lowest of his career. His 2.48 seconds to throw is also the fifth quickest in the league, per PFF.It doesn't matter who's coaching when the talent isn't there. However, the person coaching this team is also responsible for its head-scratching roster decisions. The Patriots made a huge mistake swapping Jakobi Meyers for JuJu Smith-Schuster. Meyers has been a valuable No. 2 wideout for the Las Vegas Raiders, while Smith-Schuster ranks seventh on the Patriots in receiving yards with 86 on 14 catches. Ezekiel Elliott and Mike Gesicki haven't done much to move the needle, either. While Belichick still has a keen eye for defensive back prospects, many of his mid-to-late-round picks have been misses. Out of 22 players selected from the third round or later from 2019-2021, only three remain on the Patriots' active 53-man roster.Countless injuries have snakebitten the roster, with the secondary being hit hardest. However, injuries, a lack of talent, and poor roster building have been the wrecking ball that's crashed into Belichick's once-fortified palace.Should the Vikings hold a fire sale? David Berding / Getty Images Sport / GettyTeams that are 1-4 usually don't make the playoffs. Teams that are 1-4 and missing one of the league's best players typically never make the playoffs. If the Vikings were waiting for a reason to plant a "for sale" sign in front of their roster, Justin Jefferson's hamstring injury should do the trick.Minnesota is slated to become the hottest potential seller as the Oct. 31 trade deadline approaches. Jefferson is likely still off limits, though he only has one more year under contract. The Vikings do have a few intriguing short-term rentals. Kirk Cousins might be able to fetch a decent haul from a desperate team on the cusp of a playoff push (looking at you, Jets and Falcons). Even if Minnesota doesn't pull the trigger on a Cousins deal, Danielle Hunter, Marcus Davenport, Jordan Hicks, and D.J. Wonnum should definitely be shopped. There'll be a lot for the Vikings to consider ahead of the trade deadline. However, if Jefferson's injury is Minnesota's nail in the coffin, the Vikings shouldn't hesitate to get a head start on the offseason.Who will emerge in the volatile AFC North? Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyThe AFC North was built up as one of football's toughest divisions. It's lived up to that billing so far, but not for the expected reasons. Once home to some of the game's best displays of football, the division has recently showcased grand displays of inefficiency, clumsiness, and incompetence. The current division leaders - the Pittsburgh Steelers - have a point differential of -31. No quarterback in the AFC North has thrown for more than five touchdowns. Three of the four teams are averaging under 20 points per game. Every team's performance wildly fluctuates on a week-to-week basis, making it difficult to zero in on which of these rivals will eventually emerge as the front-runner.It's hard to maintain long-term belief in the Steelers. Aside from their defensive and special teams touchdowns, they're averaging a measly 12.6 points per game. Lamar Jackson is playing his best football as a passer alongside a stout defense, yet self-inflicted errors have cost the Baltimore Ravens two wins. Joe Burrow's calf injury has handcuffed the Cincinnati Bengals, although the reigning two-time division champions did muster a 34-point, three-touchdown explosion in Week 5. The Cleveland Browns may have more visits to the doctor's office than to the end zone with a season-ending knee injury to Nick Chubb and a lingering shoulder issue bothering Deshaun Watson.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud became the odds-on favorite to win the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award Tuesday following the news that De'Von Achane will miss time with a knee injury.Stroud, who was selected second overall behind Bryce Young, was the favorite prior to Sunday's game, but the betting market now believes his chance of claiming the honor is greater than 50%.Stroud was +175 (36.4% implied probability) before the Texans' two-point loss on the road to the Falcons. He's now -115, or 53.5% likely to win the award, according to oddsmakers at theScore Bet.While Stroud's record-setting start to his career is more than deserving of the odds-on favorite title, the most recent shift in probability is largely due to the fact that Achane's knee injury could reportedly keep him out multiple weeks. The Dolphins' tailback took the league by storm with his play over the start of the season. He is second in the league with 460 rushing yards and scored seven times over a three-game span.Achane was +4000 (bet $100, with $4,000) to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award prior to the season. Before Sunday, he was as short at +425. He's now priced at +2000 with the news he could end up on the IR.A price adjustment from +425 to +2000 is a 14.2% change in implied probability, with a large chunk of Achane's win equity shifting to Stroud.Bijan Robinson and Puka Nacua are the second favorites to win the award at +425. Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons recently suggested that Dallas is looking forward to a potential rematch against San Francisco, but 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel thinks that Parsons should be careful what he wishes for."I don't think (the Cowboys) want to see us again," Samuel said in the latest episode of the "Up & Adams" podcast, according to ESPN. "It might be a little bit worse."San Francisco topped Dallas 42-10 on Sunday Night Football in one of the most anticipated games of the year. It was the third straight victory over the Cowboys for the 49ers, who also eliminated Dallas in the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.49ers tight end George Kittle wore a "F--k Dallas" T-shirt under his jersey during the game. He revealed the shirt while celebrating in the end zone after scoring one of his three touchdowns. The act didn't sit well with Parsons, who said that Kittle made the matchup "more personal than it had to be.""Kittle's my guy, but I'mma say this: Laugh now, cry later," Parsons added.Samuel isn't a fan of Parsons' comments."It was already personal before the game started, and now, 42-10, I don't think you want to see us again," Samuel said. The Los Angeles Rams are trading wide receiver Van Jefferson to the Atlanta Falcons, the teams announced Tuesday. The teams will swap sixth- and seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft as a part of the deal.Jefferson fell down the Rams' depth chart this season after Tutu Atwell and rookie star Puka Nacua emerged as more frequent targets. The former second-round pick only played two snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles after Cooper Kupp returned from injury. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Jefferson joins a wide receiver room featuring Drake London, Mack Hollins, Scott Miller, and KhaDarel Hodge. London leads the wideouts with 17 receptions, 204 yards, and a pair of touchdowns, but tight ends Jonnu Smith (246) and Kyle Pitts (208) outpace the receiver in yardage. With Jefferson's diminished role in Los Angeles, he's only had eight receptions for 108 yards this season. His best campaign came in 2021 when he hauled in 50 catches for 802 yards and six touchdowns.Jefferson has appeared in 49 career games, catching 101 passes for 1,499 yards and 10 touchdowns.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Beware of the game after the big game. The Bills smoked the Dolphins in Week 4. What happens next is a common occurrence and might be the best situation to be profitable in the NFL.Buffalo's rating shot to the highest point of our prescribed range for them - despite the team losing its best cornerback, Tre'Davious White, for the season. That created an inflated betting line for the Bills' trip to Jacksonville. The spread didn't come into play, but a larger number there led to an increased moneyline, which - if you can recognize the inflation - would have coaxed you into backing the Jags for the upset that they pulled off.How ratings workEvery week, we'll look at what the betting market thinks of each team based on the closing lines from that week's games. The "rating" column is an educated guess at the oddsmakers' rating to create a point spread, with the specific number being the percentage chance that the team beats an average opponent on a neutral field. Ratings aren't rankings. The closing line is considered a better reflection of a team's value than one game. The range column is my evaluation of what each team is capable of. It's our job as handicappers to determine where within its range a team will play based on factors like on-field matchups and roster/injury issues. The earlier it is in the season, the wider the range a team may have.Market ratings and our rangeTEAMRATINGRANGE49ers7560-80Chiefs7460-80Bills7455-75Eagles6960-80Cowboys6860-80Dolphins6555-75Ravens6350-70Lions5850-70Chargers5750-70Jaguars5445-65Vikings5435-55Seahawks5140-60Saints5140-60Titans5035-55Patriots5035-55Browns4640-60Rams4635-55Raiders4530-50Packers4440-60Bengals4340-75Broncos4335-55Buccaneers4130-50Falcons4135-55Steelers4140-60Commanders4035-55Jets3930-50Texans3825-45Colts3625-45Panthers3025-45Giants2725-45Cardinals2520-40Bears2520-40The 49ers might extend the gap atop the league after annihilating Dallas on Sunday Night Football. What's tricky for this coming week is that the Browns' rating - off a bye - is still tied to their closing point spread when Dorian Thompson-Robinson was forced into action right before kickoff against the Ravens. If we look back to Week 3's market report, we estimated Cleveland at 55/100 with a healthy Deshaun Watson before they suffocated the Titans. If he's back and healthy, this week's line would be -3.5 before considering a bump up for the Niners.Since we're estimating here, we'll assign the Ravens a bump from 60 to 63 for dominating the Browns - even if it was against their backup quarterback. By that logic, the Steelers get a considerable downgrade after losing horribly in Houston. With two teams headed in opposite directions off of one week's results and some low-level injury considerations, a bet on Pittsburgh at +4 had to be made. Sure enough, the Steelers won in classic fashion, while the Ravens lost in the same way they usually do.It's not always a situation where a favorite is too big. The Falcons saw their rating drop after losing two in a row, while the aforementioned Texans win - their second in a row - gave them enough of a bump to get Sunday's tilt between the two lined under a field goal. Of course, getting the best of the number swung the spread result as Atlanta covered -1.5, but not -2.5, and vice-versa.We'll never know why the market got so carried away with the Titans and/or teams playing the Colts, but recognizing that led to a bet on Indianapolis, so we won't complain. Tennessee goes up and down every week, meaning their drop after losing in Indianapolis should create some value to hop back on Tennessee as home underdogs this week.Speaking of wild perception swings, the Bengals continue to sway heavily. Being three-point favorites at Arizona may have fooled the uninitiated, but Cincinnati's low point in the market should have meant it was time to buy. A 43/100 rating would make the Bengals a pick'em hosting Seattle this week, so there's been some adjustment back up - not quite where they were at their peak.As a general rule, you could do worse than moving a team one rating point for a cover and one more for a win. That's probably how we got to the Chiefs -3.5 at the Vikings. Minnesota likely should have covered a game that was far closer than the score.Lastly, the Bears didn't take kindly to being rated as the worst team in the NFL and got a nice road win on Thursday night. At that same rating and with where they were before this week, the Vikings would be -6. Chicago will get bumped out of the bottom spot, and Justin Jefferson's status is up in the air. He's one of a handful of non-quarterbacks who drastically alters his team's rating.Matt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore. If there's a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones remains confident that quarterback Dak Prescott is the solution rather than the problem after Sunday's 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers."I believe Dak is a quarterback that can get us to the Super Bowl, and that's the way that's going to be," Jones said during a radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, per ESPN's Todd Archer."I'm not panicked. But the gap is - when something tells you what it is, don't try to dream that it's something else. Now, what I'm trying to say is we can do better than what we did out there Sunday night. That's a given."Prescott was outclassed by his Week 5 counterpart Brock Purdy. The 49ers' signal-caller passed for 252 yards and four touchdowns, while Prescott tallied 153 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.Prescott said it was "the most humbling game I've ever been a part of."The Cowboys surrendered season-high totals in points and yards (421), and the prime-time game marked the franchise's largest margin of defeat since a 49-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints in 2013.San Francisco has recently got the best of Dallas, bouncing the Cowboys in the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.Jones said he hasn't given consideration to having Brian Schottenheimer call plays and allowing head coach Mike McCarthy to move back to being a CEO figure. The team is in its first season with McCarthy calling plays on offense after the departure of former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.Dallas is averaging 327.4 yards per game and 26.8 points per contest ahead of its Week 6 matchup against Moore and the Los Angeles Chargers.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson remains day-to-day ahead of Sunday's game against San Francisco 49ers due to a rotator cuff contusion, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.Watson spent the bye week resting and rehabbing the ailment. He didn't participate in practice on Monday. His status for Sunday's matchup remains unclear. The injury was sustained during Cleveland's 27-3 win over the Tennessee Titans on September 24. Watson was a surprise scratch in Week 4 prior to the Browns' loss to the Baltimore Ravens.Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson started the contest against Baltimore. The UCLA product completed 19 of 36 passes for 121 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions.Head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed Monday that Watson didn't suffer any tears or structural damage in his shoulder."The piece there that's important is medically cleared versus functionally able to do your job," Stefanski said, according to The Associated Press. The three-time Pro Bowl passer has thrown for 678 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, while leading Cleveland to a 2-1 mark as a starter this season. Watson has also added 83 rushing yards for one score. The Browns' quarterback is one of several starters currently dealing with injuries. Myles Garrett (foot), Joel Bitonio (ankle), and Ethan Pocic (chest, knee) also missed Monday's practice session.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The New York Jets are looking at all options for wide receiver Mecole Hardman including a potential trade, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The 25-year-old hasn't provided much of an impact for the Jets since signing a one-year, $4-million contract in March.Hardman has recorded one reception for six yards and was inactive for Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos. He has played just 24 snaps through four games to begin the season.Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb have led the way for the Jets' wideouts corps. The club opted to activate Xavier Gipson and Irv Charles ahead of Hardman in Week 5.The Georgia product spent the past four seasons as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. The 2019 second-round pick was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams, and he earned a Pro Bowl nod during a rookie campaign in which he recorded 538 yards, six touchdowns, and 704 kickoff return yards to go along with one score in 2019.Hardman posted 25 catches for 297 yards and four scores in 2022 with the Chiefs. He missed the final nine games of the regular season and the Chiefs' divisional-round playoff matchup due to a pelvic injury.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander believes that his defense needs to play flawlessly for the team to have a chance this season."I think at this point it's pretty obvious your defense needs to not give up any touchdowns," Alexander said, according to USA Today's Ryan Wood. "I think that's the part of being self-critical of our defense because the offense is pretty young, and they're still figuring out their mojo."The Packers surrendered two touchdowns to the Las Vegas Raiders in a 17-13 loss on Monday Night Football. Green Bay's defense held Las Vegas in check for most of the night, limiting its opponents to 279 total yards while stacking up four sacks and an interception.Slow starts have been a problem for the Packers in recent weeks: Green Bay's offense has scored just six first-half points in its last three games. Quarterback Jordan Love struggled during Monday's primetime matchup, throwing three interceptions in the loss. He finished the evening having completed 16 of 30 passes for 182 yards and three interceptions. He was also sacked twice."Yeah, it's tough, we had a lot of opportunities," Love said postgame, according to The Associated Press' W.G. Ramirez. "Defense did a great job giving us those opportunities. And we just didn't do enough. I didn't do enough."The Packers' offense also appeared to feel Aaron Jones' absence. The running back has been in and out of the lineup dealing with a hamstring injury.Green Bay ranks 28th in the league with 281.6 yards per game and averages 22.6 points per contest following 38- and 24-point performances in their first two games, respectively. With a bye in Week 6, head coach Matt LaFleur intends to find a way to motivate his team through their first-half woes following back-to-back losses."Obviously we're searching for a little bit of answers right now. We've got to find something to get us going, to jump-start us," LaFleur said, per team reporter Mike Spofford.Green Bay takes on the Denver Broncos on Oct. 22 following their bye week.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is set to miss at least a month after receiving an initial diagnosis of a Grade 3 joint sprain, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Richardson will undergo an MRI on Monday morning to confirm the severity of the right shoulder injury, Rapoport adds. He will also seek a second opinion from renowned shoulder specialist Dr. Keith Meister, sources told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Monday that Richardson will miss "some time" with the injury, but the team is still evaluating whether he'll go on injured reserve, which requires a minimum four-game absence, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.Steichen confirmed Richardson will miss the Week 6 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Gardner Minshew II will start. It's the second significant injury of Richardson's rookie season: He missed Week 3 with a concussion. He also tweaked his ankle at the end of his NFL debut, though Steichen said he could've returned if needed. The 21-year-old suffered the shoulder injury while being tackled on a designed quarterback run during Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans. He immediately pointed to his throwing shoulder before going to the locker room.Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick, has shown off his dynamic playmaking abilities to start his NFL career. He's racked up 577 passing yards and three touchdowns against one interception while also adding 136 yards and four scores on the ground.Minshew led the Colts to victory over the Titans to improve their record to 3-2. The veteran signal-caller has performed well in relief of Richardson, completing 68.7% of his passes for 553 yards and two touchdowns. The 27-year-old Minshew, who split the first four years of his career between Jacksonville and Philadelphia Eagles, has 25 career starts and 12 further appearances.Indianapolis is scheduled to play the Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers over the next month.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you.The Monday Night Football matchup shapes up a lot like a night in Las Vegas. Like the occasional evening in Sin City, the betting market seems to have a hazy recollection of the Week 3 matchup where interest in backing the Raiders was high against one of the biggest brands in the NFL.Packers @ Raiders (-2, 45.5)Two weeks ago, the Steelers opened as short favorites, but the betting market piled in on the Raiders, flipping them to be the favorite by just shy of a field goal. That seemed like a good idea right up until the Las Vegas defense made the woeful Pittsburgh offense look far more functional than they have in any other game, despite the Steelers having played a high-intensity battle with Cleveland just six nights earlier. Here we go again. Over a week ago, the Packers opened as a short favorite, and yet again, interest in the Raiders made Las Vegas the favorite. Unlike Pittsburgh, Green Bay has all kinds of rest and motivation from failing miserably in a prime-time divisional game at home. Can the Raiders take advantage of a shaky Packers' offensive line? Last I looked, the Steelers aren't boasting a reinforced Kenny Pickett fence. Assuming their questionable tags are more of a formality, Aaron Jones should be far more involved. And look for shots deep to Christian Watson, as the Packers' offense looks a lot more like it did against the Bears in Week 1 than it has against the more aggressive fronts of the Saints and Lions.Pick: Packers (+2.5)Christian Watson: Over 43.5 receiving yards (-115)We saved some face two Thursdays ago by recognizing that Watson was mispriced (+225) in the anytime touchdown market as the No. 1 receiver for Jordan Love - who's not been shy to look at wide receivers in the red zone - when Watson scored on a play designed for him near the goal line.Watson only played 26 snaps in that game. Assuming he's good to go and healthy enough for close to a full workload, he should at least see 48 snaps - his average in the latter half of last season. In those final eight games, Watson had at least six targets and 46 yards in every contest except one. In his final five appearances, Watson's receiving totals were between 45.5 and 55.5. While his touchdown odds have depressed, his injury issues give us a couple of yards of leeway that we wouldn't usually get, making the over worth a look.Jakobi Meyers: Anytime touchdown (+175)The Raiders have been bet despite Davante Adams' questionable injury status - which is significant enough that oddsmakers aren't offering his props as of Monday morning. Even if he plays, the Packers are familiar with his work and should shift coverage his way.The top three target-getters on the Raiders have 25+, while the next closest has seven. Maybe Las Vegas rediscovers Hunter Renfrow or the tight end position as a whole, but Jakobi Meyers is available at decent odds for the Raiders' second-most targeted player.Matt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore.
