One of Tom Brady's first big post-retirement moves will be helping to produce a series about Pro Football Hall of Fame coach and legendary broadcaster John Madden.Brady, through his company 199 Productions, has been tapped to executive produce a limited series chronicling the life and career of Madden, according to Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline. Madden's family said Brady's involvement was particularly important."I grew up admiring John Madden, first as a coach, then as a commentator," Brady said. "I loved John's passion for the game, especially his insatiable appetite for educating audiences about football. He welcomed fans with that warm smile, infectious laugh, and exceptional knowledge of the game, making everyone feel as if John were watching the broadcast right next to them on their living room sofa.""(This is) the iconic story of a family man who revolutionized not only the game but the culture of football," Brady added. The series will be directed by Gavin O'Connor and written by Alex Sohn. An episode count has yet to be determined.Madden served as head coach of the then-Oakland Raiders from 1969-78, leading the franchise to seven division titles and its first Super Bowl title. After retiring from coaching in 1979, he spent the next three decades calling NFL games across four different networks while also lending his name and voice to the popular Madden NFL video game series.Madden died on Dec. 28, 2021, at the age of 85.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Baltimore Ravens didn't provide full assurances that Lamar Jackson would return as the team's quarterback in 2023 while conducting offensive coordinator interviews, sources told Jordan Schultz, theScore's NFL insider.Jackson is expected to receive the franchise tag this offseason, keeping him off the free-agent market after he played out the final year of his rookie contract. The two sides' continued lack of progress toward a long-term deal could potentially open the door for teams around the league to tempt the Ravens with trade offers.Baltimore wants Jackson to return, but the organization is currently unsure how the situation with its star quarterback will unfold in the coming weeks, sources said.Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said during his end-of-season press conference that he was "200%" confident Jackson is the team's quarterback of the future."There's no question about it. Lamar Jackson is our quarterback," Harbaugh said. "Everything we've done in terms of building our offense and building our team … is based on this incredible young man and his talent."Jackson has been one of the league's most electrifying playmakers since the Ravens drafted him in 2018, winning MVP honors in his second season and leading Baltimore to a 45-16 record in 61 starts. Injuries forced him to miss the final four games in 2021 and the last five games of 2022.The Ravens parted ways with longtime offensive coordinator Greg Roman following the 2022 campaign. Todd Monken has since been hired as his replacement after winning back-to-back national titles in the same role at Georgia.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Indianapolis Colts confirmed Shane Steichen as their new head coach on Tuesday. The Colts gave Steichen a six-year contract, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The 37-year-old spent the last two seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator, helping their offense rank third in both points and yards in 2022.The Colts zeroed in on Steichen last week, and the 37-year-old flew to Indianapolis to finalize a deal Monday following Philadelphia's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. He's the second-youngest head coach in Colts history."High integrity. High character. Brilliant football mind. Philosophically, we see the game the same way, and that's critical," Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard said Tuesday during Steichen's introductory press conference, according to Kevin Bowen of 1075 The Fan.Steichen joined the Eagles in 2021 after spending the previous seven years with the Los Angeles Chargers in multiple roles, including offensive coordinator (2019-20).Indianapolis fired head coach Frank Reich midway through the 2022 season and replaced him with interim head coach Jeff Saturday, who had never coached above the high school level. Saturday, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, and Green Bay Packers special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia were among the finalists for the Colts' vacancy.Ballard said he doesn't see any issues with how long Indianapolis searched for its next sideline boss."I don't ever understand what the hurry is. It's about getting it right," he said, according to Joel A. Erickson of IndyStar.A former UNLV quarterback who took over play-calling duties in November 2021, Steichen helped Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts post a career year with 22 touchdown passes and 13 rushing scores this season while guiding Philadelphia to an NFC-best 14-3 record."We're going to throw to score points in this league and run to win," Steichen said Tuesday.Steichen inherits a Colts team that ranked 30th in points scored and 28th in points allowed this season and has major questions at quarterback after a disappointing campaign with veteran Matt Ryan under center. Indianapolis owns the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft."We felt that Shane had a lot of that offensive magic," said Colts owner Jim Irsay. He added that Steichen is a good fit "knowing that we're going to have to find that young quarterback to develop."Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Days, hours, and even minutes after Super Bowl LVII, the "way too early" NFL power rankings started hitting social media timelines throughout the land. Why do we all admit that these are too early? Because we have free agency, the NFL draft, trades, and the nightmare scenario of a key injury in training camp looming that could change the championship contention picture. Some of last year's events didn't significantly alter a team's chances of winning - Tyreek Hill's exit, Tom Brady's unretirement, Davante Adams and Josh McDaniel landing in Sin City, and everything Russell Wilson. The Chiefs still won, while the Buccaneers, Raiders, and Broncos largely stunk. Some things mattered a lot: A.J. Brown unlocked the Eagles' offense, the Giants got a real coach and good young players in the draft, and the Jaguars revamped their culture while spending more wildly than new lottery winners.Knowing there's still so much to come, we wouldn't advise placing a bet that won't return a profit for a whole calendar year. But as a starting point, it's worth seeing how oddsmakers rate each team based on next season's strength of schedule.Super Bowl LVIII oddsTEAM ODDSChiefs+550Bills+800Bengals+800Eagles+80049ers+800Cowboys+1600Ravens+2000Chargers+2000Jets+2000Broncos+3000Lions+3000Packers+3000Jaguars+3000Dolphins+3000Vikings+3500Browns+4000Rams+4000Saints+4000Giants+4000Raiders+5000Patriots+6000Steelers+6000Seahawks+6000Titans+6000Falcons+7500Panthers+7500Bears+7500Buccaneers+7500Commanders+7500Colts+15000Cardinals+20000Texans+20000This is essentially the market's power ranking in odds form. If you want to bet on a team (say the Bears or Panthers at 75-1) to have a big offseason - that translates into contending in a vulnerable division and a price shortening - you could do that in the near term.During the season, we look at how each side is rated based on the closing point spread of their previous game. We also provide the range I expect that team to play within on any given Sunday. For example, at their worst, the Chiefs will be 60/100, and they can push 80/100 at their best.Below we'll look at where each club closed the 2022 season and a conservative estimate about its possible range for the 2023 campaign, acknowledging that all the x-factors above will change that calculus. Don't worry - we'll revisit this as the offseason progresses.RatingsTEAM2022 CLOSE2023 RANGEChiefs6960-80Eagles7260-80Bills7260-8049ers7160-80Bengals6460-80Cowboys6355-75Dolphins5950-70Chargers5850-70Ravens5545-65Rams5140-60Packers5040-60Vikings5040-60Jaguars4940-60Buccaneers4930-50Lions4840-60Giants4640-60Jets4540-60Saints4535-55Patriots4440-60Titans4440-60Steelers4335-55Browns4135-55Commanders4030-50Cardinals4025-45Panthers3930-50Seahawks3925-45Raiders3835-55Colts3730-50Broncos3530-50Bears3430-50Falcons3330-50Texans2020-40The 2022 ratingThe top of the chart is out of order for a reason. The Chiefs' rating reflects that they were the underdogs in the Super Bowl, with concerns over Patrick Mahomes' ankle, their ability to protect and run the ball, and a defense that gave up 374 total yards to Jalen Hurts alone. I believe the Chiefs would be the favorite if the two sides played on a neutral site next week, but we'll never know for certain. Before your eyes pop out, we can likely agree that the Bills (72) were overrated right up until the bitter end of their season, while the Bengals were underrated at 64. Given that they're now the same price to win the Super Bowl next year, it seems the market has rectified that. There are two types of issues as you go down the 2022 rating column. The first is exemplified by the Rams, whose rating is from the last time Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp were available since they're still with the franchise. The second shows up with the Raiders, whose rating is based on their Week 18 game after they jettisoned Derek Carr. He's no longer considered part of the team, so we're left with Las Vegas' rating with Jarrett Stidham under center. The 2023 rangeThe range column determines what type of quarterback any team might get next season and a conservative estimate of how that would change its market rating. For example, we can't assume the Jets will get Aaron Rodgers, but we can guess they'll get someone more proven than Zach Wilson or Mike White. It's the opposite in Tampa Bay, a club that was already mediocre and now has to replace the GOAT.With the Cardinals and 49ers, signal-caller injury issues are a factor. But we can assume Arizona will be some degree of bad no matter how many games Kyler Murray starts and that San Francisco will be some degree of good no matter who plays quarterback for Kyle Shanahan.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. The Arizona Cardinals hired Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon as their head coach on a five-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.Gannon helped the Eagles - owners of one of the NFL's most stacked rosters - improve defensively this season, going from the 18th-ranked defense in 2021 to the eighth-best unit in the league in points allowed in 2022. However, Philadelphia allowed 37 points in the Super Bowl LVII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, including 17 fourth-quarter points. The 40-year-old joined Philadelphia's coaching staff in 2021 after serving as an assistant for the Atlanta Falcons (2007), Tennessee Titans (2012-13), Minnesota Vikings (2014-17), and Indianapolis Colts (2018-20).Gannon's hiring is the first major move made by new Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort, hired in January to succeed Steve Keim.Arizona fired former head coach Kliff Kingsbury a week before hiring Ossenfort. Kingsbury posted a 4-13 record in 2022 as the team ranked 21st in points scored and 31st in points allowed. The Cardinals had the final head coaching vacancy in the NFL this year. Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and former Pittsburgh Steelers assistant Brian Flores were also finalists for the NFC West team. Flores recently joined the Minnesota Vikings as defensive coordinator.Offensive coordinator Shane Steichen also left Philadelphia earlier Tuesday to become head coach of the Colts. The Eagles are the first Super Bowl team to lose both coordinators to NFL head coaching jobs since the San Francisco 49ers did so in 1994, according to Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network.Eagles quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson and defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson are in-house candidates to replace Steichen and Gannon in 2023, respectively.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Baltimore Ravens are hiring Todd Monken as their new offensive coordinator, the team announced Tuesday.Monken, 57, has served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgia since 2020. He was a key figure in helping the Bulldogs win back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022."Todd's leadership and coaching acumen were evident from the beginning," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. "He has a proven track record for designing and teaching offensive systems that allow players to succeed at the highest level. We're excited to get to work and begin building an offense that will help us compete for championships."Baltimore conducted an extensive search that featured 21 interviews with 14 candidates after the team parted ways with former offensive play-caller Greg Roman in January.Monken, who has 34 years of coaching experience, returns to the NFL for the first time since serving as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He occupied the same role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016-18.The Ravens averaged 338.8 yards and 20.6 points per contest last season. Monken will be tasked with improving a passing attack that averaged 178.8 yards per contest in 2022.Potentially complicating that task is the status of star quarterback Lamar Jackson. The 2019 MVP could become a free agent this offseason after playing out the final year of his rookie deal in 2022. Jackson, 26, is likely to be a candidate for a franchise tag that could cost the club $32.4 million next season, according to Over The Cap.The Bulldogs, meanwhile, announced Mike Bobo as their next offensive coordinator. Bobo previously held the position for Georgia from 2007-14 and recently served as an analayst on staff.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers will be among the teams interested in signing Derek Carr once he's released Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Carr is expected to be released by the Las Vegas Raiders before 4 p.m. ET Tuesday when $40 million of the signal caller's 2023 pay would become guaranteed. The team attempted to trade Carr, but the quarterback's no-trade clause allowed him to refuse any deals. The Raiders and Saints, the latter of which the 31-year-old met with last week, reportedly had the base of a deal agreed to had Carr been willing to accept a trade.Carr will be eligible to sign a deal with a new team immediately upon his release, not needing to wait until March 15 when the new league year and free agency officially open. The Saints have Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill under contract for 2023. Winston was unable to hold onto the job, being replaced by Andy Dalton, while Hill continues to be used in a unique hybrid role for the Saints. Hill attempted just 19 passes this season.Ryan Tannehill and Malik Willis are currently on Tennessee's payroll for next season. Tannehill, 35, finished the season on injured reserve with an ankle injury, while Willis struggled in limited action. The Jets, which have also been linked to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, rode a quarterback rollercoaster this season with Zach Wilson, Mike White, and Joe Flacco all starting multiple games. Wilson is the only one of the trio signed for 2023.Matt Corral, who missed the entirety of his rookie season with a Lisfranc injury, and Jacob Eason are the only passers Carolina currently rosters. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid hopes longtime offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will have a chance to run his own team in the future."Eric Bieniemy has been tremendous for us and, I think, tremendous for the National Football League," Reid said, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher. "I'm hoping he has an opportunity to go somewhere and do his thing where he can run the show and be Eric Bieniemy."The 53-year-old Bieniemy helped construct one of the league's most prolific offenses under Reid since assuming the offensive coordinator role in 2018. He served as the team's running backs coach from 2013-17.Kansas City rallied in the second half of Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles, scoring touchdowns on its first three possessions after halftime. The Chiefs then kicked the game-winning field goal on their final drive to secure a 38-35 win and their second league title in four years.Bieniemy said the offense wasn't executing the way it needed to in the first 30 minutes of the contest and needed to provide more support to its defense. The Chiefs employed pre-snap motions that appeared to fool Eagles defenders and led to big gains for the offense."We saw something a little different on tape, and we knew we could take advantage of what they weren't doing," Bieniemy said. The New Orleans native has been interviewed for head coaching opportunities across the league in the past. Most recently, he interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts about their vacant head coaching position last month. He's also in the mix for the same role with several other teams, including the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders.Meanwhile, Reid downplayed the idea of retirement following Sunday's victory.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. As always, we tried to preach responsibility in Super Bowl betting. It's just one game, and there's no need to be overinvested in one outcome. It's also the most fun game to bet all season, so we leaned into that with a smattering of prop bets designed to have value regardless of whether it'd be the Eagles or Chiefs lifting the trophy.Of course, the fun comes from winning more than we lose. Both quarterbacks completed their first pass, Justin Reid went over his tackle total by halftime, and neither team started a possession inside their own 20-yard line, therefore never threatening the under on longest drive. So when another great Super Bowl came down to the final seconds - and a supposedly controversial penalty call - it didn't really matter which side you were on, especially since the Eagles scored their share of points. That said, it's not all about us, as there were a handful overarching betting subplots to an eventful Super Bowl LVII.Square, don't careThe favorites to score a touchdown - Jalen Hurts and Travis Kelce - got that done early, each scoring their team's first touchdown on their first drive. Maybe that should've hinted that it'd be a big night for what some derisively call "square" bets - those made with little consideration for whether the price is good and often based on gut feel.Player prop overs started coming home one after another - befitting a matchup in which the game point total was never in doubt of going over. The longest pass went over on the third drive, and from there, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Travis Kelce, and JuJu Smith-Schuster all went over their yardage totals, with just Kelce falling short on receptions. The super popular Kenneth Gainwell props eventually all crawled over, as did the Isiah Pacheco on-the-ground props. Strangely, the one player prop that never came close was Patrick Mahomes' yardage total - likely blowing up a number of same-game parlays that played off a shootout-style game handicap.Even the long shots - many only available for the Super Bowl - started to come through. Thanks to Harrison Butker, there was a missed kick (+110) - and it doinked off the upright (+450). There was a defensive/special teams touchdown (+300), and if Miles Sanders had gotten a third step down, Nick Bolton would've likely been a mega long shot cash for MVP in the neighborhood of 100-1.Not only was there a two-point conversion attempt (-150), but it was also converted (+270) - and since Hurts converted it on his own touchdown, "the octopus" cashed at +1400.If you needed something to happen in Super Bowl LVII, it probably did. Unless it involved sacks, interceptions, or field goals.Quarterbacks on the moveSpeaking of overs, both quarterbacks exemplified how the position is played in 2023, actively using their legs. Hurts carried the ball 15 times (over) - with two runs of more than 13.5 yards (over!) - for 70 yards (over!!) and three touchdowns (over!!!).We thought the improved condition of Mahomes' ankle, along with the now-or-never nature of the game, might mean he'd be more able to take off running. He went over his game total and longest rush total - with a late scamper - but those shooting for a +850 payout on Mahomes to run for 50-plus yards had flashbacks to the worst prop bet of Super Bowl LIV, when Mahomes took a pair of kneels inside the 5-yard line to move his total from 51 down to 44.Bad betsAnything to do with Miles SandersThe shift in usage from Sanders to Gainwell - that we'd seen in the previous two playoff games - continued when Sanders was largely ineffective on the ground and nearly fumbled his only receiving target. Even by the goal line, while Hurts found the end zone four total times, Gainwell almost scored first and Boston Scott had opportunities to score as well.Information leaks on Rihanna's first songWith her opening song, it's as if Rihanna knew Super Bowl LVII would be a good one for bettors - or for the underdog. "Bitch Better Have My Money" cashed a double-digit payout, so if you thought you had good info on her setlist and bet any of the popular short prices, Rihanna called all bluffs.A late sweatThe champion (and spread/moneyline) wasn't the only undecided factor when the Chiefs got the ball back with just over five minutes left for essentially the game's final drive. Kelce's final catch put him over, and the Chiefs' game-winning drive sent the total yardage over 739.5.Perhaps ironically, the holding call on James Bradberry that effectively ended the game was the ninth and final accepted penalty of the game. At a pregame line of 9.5, that's one of the few props that stayed under.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. If there's a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. Quarterback Jalen Hurts' historic performance in Super Bowl LVII came up just short as the Philadelphia Eagles fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35.Hurts threw for 304 yards and rushed for 70 yards, making history as the signal-caller with the most rushing yards in the Super Bowl. He made three of his four scores on the ground, tying Terrell Davis' record. His lone blemish in an outstanding performance during the biggest game of the year was a fumble when trying to switch hands, which Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton returned 36 yards for a touchdown."I always hold myself to a very high standard in everything I do," he said Sunday postgame, according to NFL.com's Judy Battista. "Obviously, I try to control the things I can. I touch the ball on every play. I want to protect it. It hurt us. You never know what play it will be."I don't do this to be loved," he added. "I don't do this to be hated. I don't do this to seek anybody else's approval. I do it for the guys in the locker room. I do it for all the time we invested in this."Philadelphia had one final possession to end the contest, but Hurts' desperation heave fell short of any receivers.Head coach Nick Sirianni praised the third-year passer's performance, complementing his decision-making and noting his complete control in the game."Jalen played the best game I've seen him play in the two years we’ve been together," Sirianni said, according to The Associated Press' Josh Dubow. The Eagles quarterback even earned the praise of Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes after the contest."That was a special performance that I don't want to get lost because of the loss they had," Mahomes said, according to Dubow.Hurts enjoyed a breakout campaign during the 2022-23 season despite the end result. He tallied 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions while putting up a 101.5 passer rating in 15 games. He also added 760 rushing yards for 13 scores on the ground, which helped him finish as the runner-up to Mahomes in the regular-season MVP race. While Hurts admits falling just short of the sport's ultimate prize is tough, he knows his only choice from here is to "rise.""You either win or you learn," he said, according to Battista.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named MVP of Super Bowl LVII after throwing three touchdowns in the 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. It's Mahomes' second career Super Bowl MVP award after he earned it three seasons ago following Kansas City's victory over the San Francisco 49ers.He also becomes the seventh player in NFL history to earn both NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP honors in the same season and the first since Kurt Warner during the 1999 season. League MVPs were 0-8 in the Super Bowl since then. The star signal-caller entered the game with a high ankle sprain. But despite appearing to tweak the injury late in the first half, Mahomes finished with a 131.8 passer rating, 182 passing yards, and 44 rushing yards. He also led a 12-play drive in the final minutes, with kicker Harrison Butker making the game-winning field goal."MV-Pat! You can't say enough about what this guy means to Kansas City and this team," said Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.Mahomes now boasts a Hall of Fame-caliber resume after earning his second career MVP award, second first-team All-Pro selection, and fifth Pro Bowl nod. He led the NFL with 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns this season. The 27-year-old is also the 13th quarterback to win multiple Super Bowl titles as a starter. The victory over Philadelphia was Mahomes' 11th career playoff victory, tying him for the 12th-most wins among quarterbacks.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. He also carried the ball six times for 44 yards, including a clutch 26-yard run with just under three minutes left. The 27-year-old won the second Super Bowl MVP of his career to become only the third player ever with multiple MVP awards in both the regular season and Super Bowl (Tom Brady and Joe Montana).Kansas City had a slow start to Super Bowl LVII and didn't convert any of its three third-down attempts in the first half. The Chiefs recorded only six first downs and had the ball for only 8:06 in the first two quarters. However, they scored on every possession in the second half to stage another memorable comeback."Not one of y'all said the Chiefs were gonna take it home this year! Not a single one! Feel that shit! Feel it," tight end Travis Kelce said postgame, according to Michael Hurley of WBZ.Kelce led K.C. with 81 yards and one touchdown on six receptions. He now has 16 career TD receptions in the playoffs, the second most ever to Jerry Rice (22).JuJu Smith-Schuster caught seven passes for 53 yards. He drew a defensive holding penalty against cornerback James Bradberry on third down with 1:54 left, which ultimately let the Chiefs run out the clock to drill the game-winning kick in the dying seconds."It feels amazing just to see the confetti," said Butker, who missed a 42-yarder in the first quarter, according to Rob Maaddi of The Associated Press. "I just tried to focus on one kick and focusing on the process."Wide receivers Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney each caught a touchdown, too. Toney, who joined the Chiefs in an October trade from the New York Giants, also contributed with a 65-yard punt return - the longest in Super Bowl history - that helped set up Moore's score minutes later.Facing the NFL's best pass rush, Kansas City's offensive line lived up to the occasion, helping Mahomes finish the game without being sacked. The Chiefs also moved the ball well on the ground, rushing for 158 yards (6.1 per carry) and one touchdown.Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts posted a historic performance for the losing side, setting the Super Bowl single-game record with 70 rushing yards and becoming the first player in NFL history to rush for at least two touchdowns and throw for another in a Super Bowl.Hurts finished the evening with 304 yards passing and one touchdown pass to go along with three scores on the ground. He also punched in a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 35 apiece. The Eagles' offensive line stepped up once again, as did receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Brown had a 45-yard touchdown in the first quarter and finished the contest with 96 yards on six receptions, while Smith racked up seven catches and 100 yards. Defensively, however, Philadelphia wasn't able to stop Kansas City when it mattered most, allowing 17 fourth-quarter points. The 73 combined points were the third-most in Super Bowl history.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Multiple Philadelphia Eagles players complained about the field conditions at Arizona's State Farm Stadium following Sunday's 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII."It was the worst field I ever played on," pass-rusher Haason Reddick said postgame, according to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post."It was like playing on a water park," said offensive lineman Jordan Mailata, who also said that Chiefs players criticized it during the game, per Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.Players from both teams had a hard time keeping their footing during the Super Bowl. Several players changed their cleats during Sunday's matchup, including Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni downplayed the impact of Sunday's playing surface in the final result."We both had to play on that turf," Sirianni said, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com.The Chiefs also had issues with the playing surface at State Farm Stadium when they visited the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Kansas City coach Andy Reid described the stadium's turf as "a little bit loose" in September, adding that it played a role in cornerback Trent McDuffie and kicker Harrison Butker getting injured in the season's first month. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave no indication he's considering retirement after winning his second Super Bowl on Sunday."I think I'm gonna hang around," the 64-year-old told NFL Network after the game.Reid steered the Chiefs to a 38-35 comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles - his former team - to win his second championship in four seasons. He told Fox Sports' Jay Glazer leading up to the game that he would "have a decision" to make about retirement if Kansas City prevailed in Super Bowl LVII."My heart is still young. … I'm good with what I'm doing right now," Reid told reporters later, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com.The Chiefs have won seven straight AFC West titles and reached the playoffs nine times in 10 campaigns under Reid."I can't imagine him hanging up the whistle any time soon," Chiefs general manager Brett Veach told NFL Network's James Palmer.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry took full responsibility for a controversial defensive holding penalty that put the Kansas City Chiefs in position for the winning score late in Super Bowl LVII.Bradberry was flagged for holding against Chiefs wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster on a third-and-8 incompletion at the Eagles' 15-yard line with less than two minutes remaining. The penalty allowed Harrison Butker to nail a 27-yard field goal in the final 10 seconds to give the Chiefs a 38-35 victory.Bradberry admitted that he hoped officials would let his tactics on Smith-Schuster pass."It was a holding. I tugged his jersey," Bradberry said postgame, according to Mike Giardi of NFL Network. "I was hoping they would let it slide."Smith-Schuster also told reporters postgame that he "100%" felt he got held by Bradberry on the decisive third-down play, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Super Bowl LVII official Carl Cheffers stood by the call made on the field."The receiver went to the inside, and he was attempting to release to the outside. The defender grabbed the jersey with his right hand and restricted him from releasing to the outside," Cheffers said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "So, therefore, we called defensive holding."He added: "It was a clear case of a jersey grab that caused restriction. There was no debate."Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni downplayed the significance of the penalty call."There's so many plays that contribute to the end result of the game, and today, (the Chiefs) were better than we were," Sirianni said, per Garafolo.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones believes quarterback Jordan Love can take over as starter if Aaron Rodgers doesn't return for next season.Rodgers is currently deciding whether to return to the Packers for a 19th season, seek a trade, or retire. If (Rodgers is) here, great, we love it. If he's not, we'll be sad. We'd lose one of our leaders, one of our great locker room guys," Jones said Friday on the "Around the NFL" podcast, according to NFL.com's Bobby Kownack. It's hard to replace somebody like that. But I think if that was to happen, Jordan is definitely ready."Love has made one start and 10 appearances for the Packers since being drafted 26th overall in 2020. The Baltimore Ravens would consider trading quarterback Lamar Jackson for a considerable return in draft picks this offseason, sources told NFL Network.Potential trade value specifics weren't reported, but the Ravens would likely need multiple first- and second-round picks to trade Jackson. Last offseason's blockbuster trades for Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson could influence Baltimore's demands. The Cleveland Browns sent three first-rounders and a third- and fourth-round selection to the Houston Texans for Watson, while the Denver Broncos acquired Wilson and a fourth-round pick from the Seattle Seahawks for two firsts, two seconds, Noah Fant, Shelby Harris, and Drew Lock. Both Watson and Wilson signed long-term extensions with their new clubs.Jackson is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but the Ravens are expected to franchise tag him if they can't agree to a long-term deal ahead of the March 7 deadline. The former MVP is reportedly looking for a deal including guarantees similar to the five-year, $230-million fully guaranteed contract that Watson signed with the Browns, according to NFL Network. The Ravens could consider both the exclusive and non-exclusive tags, per NFL Network. The exclusive tag prevents other teams from negotiating with the 26-year-old, while the non-exclusive tag allows teams to make offers that Baltimore can match. If the Ravens don't match an offer, they'd receive two first-round picks.Jackson will have near complete control over his destination if he's traded after receiving the exclusive tag because he'll need to sign the tender to facilitate the trade.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears are faced with a franchise-altering decision: stick with Justin Fields, or roll the dice on a rookie quarterback. If the Bears do decide to move on, Fields said Thursday that he wouldn't hold it against the organization."Everybody would love honesty in the process," Fields said on "The Rich Eisen Show," according to NFL.com's Bobby Kownack. "I would definitely like to know that. It's a business, so I totally understand. No hard feelings. But like I said, I control what I can control. Control my work ethic. Control how I carry myself each and every day."Alabama's Bryce Young, Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, and Kentucky's Will Levis are widely viewed as the top three quarterback prospects in the draft.Young appears to be the current favorite to be the first signal-caller off the board, but with a host of quarterback-needy teams in the top 10, all three are projected to hear their names called early. While Fields flashed star potential in his second season after becoming just the third quarterback in NFL history to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards, his inconsistencies as a rookie passer continued in 2022.The 23-year-old ranked 26th in passing yards (2,242), 16th in passing touchdowns (17), and 25th in passer rating (85.2) this past season. He also had the second-worst interception percentage (3.5%) and was sacked an NFL-high 55 times.Fields - who was selected 11th overall in 2021 by the previous regime in Chicago - admitted he's yet to show his true abilities in the NFL."I think I've shown a little bit, but I don't think I've shown the world what I can do in terms of playing the full quarterback position and playing it consistently," Fields said. "I think there were some times this year where I was better than others."He added: "So, just being more consistent for my teammates, for my coaches, and for the fan base. Once I do that, once I just keep progressing, keep getting better, then I'll be good."Bears general manager Ryan Poles said in January that he'd have to be "absolutely blown away" to take a quarterback with the first overall selection.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Super Bowl LVII kicks off Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET in Glendale, Arizona. These focal players and key battlegrounds will help decide whether the Chiefs or the Eagles lift the Lombardi Trophy.Patrick Mahomes' moment Michael Owens / Getty ImagesKansas City's inimitable star quarterback just won his second NFL MVP trophy. He passed for the most touchdowns and threatened Peyton Manning's single-season yardage record despite no longer getting to throw bombs to Tyreek Hill, his longtime No. 1 receiver. The NFL's average passer rating is 89.1, per Pro Football Reference; Mahomes' rating hasn't dipped below 105.0 in a game in two months. He's easily the best player Philadelphia will face this season. Mahomes leads all quarterbacks in expected points added per play, postseason included, by a vast margin, according to Ben Baldwin's database. The Eagles only played four playoff teams in the regular season, stoking claims that the defense had an easy ride. That said, they faced three quarterbacks who rank in the top 10 in EPA/play - Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, and Trevor Lawrence - and went up against seven QBs who appear in the top 20.In eight matchups - Daniel Jones was a repeat opponent - those seven QBs averaged 200.1 passing yards, posted a 63.2% completion rate, and combined to throw 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The Eagles went 6-2 in those games, only losing when Jalen Hurts was injured late in the year.Philadelphia's defense is menacing. Four pass-rushers - Haason Reddick, Javon Hargrave, Brandon Graham, and Josh Sweat - cleared double digits in sacks in the regular season and amassed 49 sacks as a quartet, which was more than 28 entire teams managed. The Eagles ranked No. 1 in DVOA against the pass, per Football Outsiders. They defended the fourth-most passes in the league and finished fifth in interceptions and total takeaways.Only two teams surrendered fewer sacks than Kansas City, while Mahomes posted the league's best passer rating on dropbacks where he was kept clean, according to PFF. He won't be fazed if the Chiefs trail Sunday. They top the NFL in offensive EPA/play in the second half of games, when most offenses tail off and Philly's offense slips to 15th in effectiveness, per Baldwin's data.

Twentieth-century philosopher Ted DiBiase often said, "Everyone's got a price," and that's the case for Super Bowl LVII. With the point spread sitting in the no man's land area of Eagles -1.5 and the total back up to 51, there's not really a valuable bet to be made on either the side or total ... yet.Luckily the playoffs have been great. We're 7-4 in sides and totals (+2.6 units), 21-11 in player props (+8.9 units), up 5.5 units on individual touchdown betting, and of course, we'll always have the Wild Card Weekend round-robin touchdown parlay that went 4-1 and added at least 10 more units, putting us +30 units depending on the price when you bet them. That's an important reminder that you don't need to go wild because it's the Super Bowl. The irresponsible calories at the buffet are easier to get back than dollars lost. On the other hand, we've spent the week looking at all corners of the game and combing through the best prop bets, giving us more than one path to victory in a contest the market expects to be close and relatively high-scoring.Chiefs vs. Eagles (-1.5, 51)In the interest of full disclosure, it's worth mentioning that I bet the Chiefs +3 (-125) moments after the AFC Championship went final, and the spread hit its peak after early Eagles betting. Thanks to knowing how the market rates both teams - something we look at weekly in this space - my price to bet the Chiefs was a spread of +3 at odds of -120. I found one available at -125, so I pounced. And even though that was the best price we've seen, I still don't love it.Philadelphia is -125 on the moneyline, but my price to bet to win is +100. There's no chance the line moves to -3 by game-time, but should there be a positive final injury report for L'Jarius Sneed, Kadarius Toney, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and no issues for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, there's a chance Kansas City's moneyline bets come in, leaving us in a true pick'em situation by the time the anthem starts. At that point, an Eagles bet would be the play - that's the thin line for a matchup this close. The irony of breaking down the spread ad infinitum over two weeks is that it will take no time at all for it to move in the live in-play betting markets. With extensive commercial breaks, if you want Chiefs +3, you'll probably be able to get it. If you're going for Eagles moneyline at +100, you'll likely have a chance to get that, too.Logically, what's more likely: Loving a side in a market that's been flushed out for two weeks or finding a handful of good prop bets out of the hundreds available this week? Our props are designed to be valuable in a Chiefs or Eagles victorious game state - in either a close game or a blowout - because this contest could go either way, and I could see either team winning convincingly. We'll want to see some of the game first, though. It's easy to say Philly will lead early - the team's done so repeatedly this season - but its strength of schedule against opposing quarterbacks has helped them do that. Kansas City is a pretty good first-half club, too, scoring the second-most first-half points this campaign. While researching for Super Bowl LVII, one concept stuck out more than any other: The Eagles' schematic ability to make life difficult on the Chiefs' defense - particularly their young secondary. Kansas City wants to add a blitzer to its front four, taking advantage of Jalen Hurts' relative inexperience. But the unit will also need to use a spy to help contain him, which will thin things out in the defensive backfield.Out of respect for Mahomes, I don't want to bet against Kansas City and will potentially start the game with the aforementioned valuable position on the Chiefs. But from an on-field handicapping standpoint, I do feel comfortable with Philadelphia's ability to score. While the Eagles' other opponents couldn't go score-for-score with them for longer than a half, Mahomes might be able to out-gun what Philly's offense can generate. The Bengals and Jaguars were thoroughly flawed offenses on the road in Kansas City, and both still managed 20 points. In any second-half game script - neutral, trailing, leading - we can assume that the Eagles will need to play the final 30 minutes with the same offensive urgency as the first 30. Even if the Chiefs have the same issues scoring as they did in Super Bowl LV against the Buccaneers, Philly shouldn't feel safe.We could see scoring open sooner than we're used to, and if the Eagles jump into the lead first, that would be an indication to live bet the over for the game. But when it comes to taking a position before the Super Bowl, we want to bet on something that will show immediate value. I'll rely on Philly to accrue early points and will watch with interest to see if K.C. can keep up.Pick: Eagles team total over 25.5 points (-120)Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel said he believes the San Francisco 49ers would've beaten the Philadelphia Eagles by double digits if quarterback Brock Purdy didn't suffer an injury in the NFC Championship Game."Just look at how well our defense was actually playing. Keeping (Jalen Hurts) in the pocket, which he doesn't like to do at all," Samuel said during an appearance on "Mad Dog Sports Radio" Thursday. "I felt like if Brock was in ... and how our offense moves, I don't think it would've been close, if that makes sense."When asked if he thought San Francisco could have won by double digits, Samuel replied, "Yeah. Like we beat everybody else."The receiver listed the 49ers' turnovers, penalties, and a fourth-down reception he didn't think was a catch as the key factors to the Eagles' 31-7 win."I'm not salty at all. I just speak facts," Samuel said.Veteran journeyman Josh Johnson replaced Purdy in the first quarter of the conference championship matchup, but Purdy returned to the contest in the second half after Johnson suffered a concussion. Purdy finished the game with just four pass attempts. The Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate will reportedly undergo surgery to repair a torn UCL.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Wide receiver Tee Higgins is hopeful the Cincinnati Bengals' core pieces will remain together despite multiple members approaching the end of their rookie deals."Hopefully, for a long time, I plan on being in Cincinnati for a while," Higgins said Thursday when asked how long will the team stay together, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Questions have surfaced regarding how the Bengals plan to keep the nucleus of Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon, Ja'Marr Chase, and Higgins long term. The organization is reportedly set to use this offseason to negotiate an extension with Burrow, while Mixon is in the midst of a four-year, $48-million deal.Chase will not be eligible for an extension until next offseason, but Higgins is entering the final year of his rookie deal.Higgins has become a dangerous receiving option opposite Chase. He enjoyed a second straight 1,000-plus-yard season in 2022 and has eclipsed 900 yards in each of his first three years.Cincinnati came within striking distance of reaching the Super Bowl again this season but was defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Gone are the early '90s when Emmitt Smith and Thurman Thomas were just as important to the Cowboys' and Bills' chances of winning as Troy Aikman and Jim Kelly. As a result, there are approximately six different running backs that could score a touchdown, break a big run, or get the most carries in Super LVII.This mix of capable but not critical tailbacks clouds the betting markets, but should one emerge Sunday, he'll likely clear his yardage totals by quite a bit, and a multi-touchdown game would provide a bigger payout than if he was a traditional featured back. The Kenneth Gainwell situationLast week, we jumped on a prop bet that we knew would be popular - the over on Kenneth Gainwell's rushing yards. Sure enough, that number's been on the move, rising from an open of 16.5 yards through 17.5 and now 19.5. We broke down the modest usage shift from Miles Sanders to Gainwell over the course of the season and through the first two games of the playoffs, but there may be a secondary reason why the number keeps increasing.Sanders becomes a free agent this offseason, and the Eagles have shown little interest in giving a big second contract to tailbacks, as they're at the forefront in the trend of devaluing the position. Gainwell is only at the end of his second season and may have proved he's next season's No. 1 in the backfield.Sanders will likely get the start, but with double-digit carries for Gainwell in both playoff games and a yardage total lined 30 yards below Sanders, it's Gainwell who has high-payout derivative markets that are relatively easily accomplished. You can take a unit and split it among a series of long-shot plays:50-plus rushing yards (+1025)

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank is confidently backing his young quarterback for the 2023-24 season."We're very excited about Desmond Ridder," Blank said, according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.The Falcons drafted Ridder in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Cincinnati product was the second quarterback to go off the board behind Kenny Pickett.Ridder started the season as Marcus Mariota's backup but was thrown into the fire in Week 15 when the latter was benched."I think from the time he came into training camp, he showed great capabilities as a leader amongst the rookies and then amongst the vets," Blank said.Ridder completed 63% of his passes in four starts, throwing for 708 yards and two touchdowns. The Falcons hold the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, opening the door for the team to take a new franchise quarterback."There's a lot of things strategically that will play out over the next couple of months," head coach Arthur Smith said, according to Rothstein. "But feel good about where we're at."Mariota signed a two-year, $18.75-million contract last offseason, but the Falcons can save $12 million if they cut him before June 1, according to Over The Cap.Copyright © 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc.
