The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign running back Melvin Gordon to their practice squad, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Denver Broncos released Gordon on Nov. 21 after he recorded five fumbles in 10 games this season. He was averaging just 3.5 yards per carry, the worst since his rookie year with the then-San Diego Chargers.Gordon cleared waivers last Tuesday. The Chiefs' active roster includes running backs Isiah Pacheco, Ronald Jones, and Jerick McKinnon. Former first-rounder Clyde Edwards-Helaire is unavailable after landing on injured reserve last Wednesday with an ankle injury.Kansas City's rushing offense is ranked 19th in the league with 114.8 yards per game, but the Chiefs still lead the NFL in points per game.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cincinnati Bengals star receiver Ja'Marr Chase is expected to return for the team's upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Chase has missed the last four games due to a hip injury he suffered in Week 7. The Bengals were optimistic about him returning last week before they made him inactive for Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans. The former top-five pick in 2021 has recorded 47 receptions for 605 yards this year. His six receiving touchdowns still lead the team despite his injury absence.Meanwhile, running back Joe Mixon is trending in the right direction to play in Week 13 after he missed Sunday's victory, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The Bengals ride into their pivotal meeting with the Chiefs carrying a three-game winning streak. It's the first matchup between the two AFC heavyweights since last season's AFC Championship Game, which saw Cincinnati advance to the Super Bowl.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney will miss the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury he suffered in Sunday's loss to the New York Jets, head coach Matt Eberflus announced Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 25-year-old, whom Chicago drafted in the fifth round in 2020, leads the team with 40 catches and 493 receiving yards through 12 appearances this year. He's scored two touchdowns. The Tulane product enjoyed a career year in 2021, catching 81 passes for 1,055 yards and four touchdowns.Injuries have been an issue for the Bears' offense lately, as quarterback Justin Fields missed Sunday's game due to a shoulder ailment, and running back Khalil Herbert is currently on injured reserve with a hip issue. The 3-9 Bears have lost five straight and host the Green Bay Packers in Week 13 before going on bye.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Each Monday, we'll finish off the week that was in the NFL with a look at value spots in the remaining game - under one condition: You promise not to chase. Whether Sunday provided a boost to the accounts or left a little to be desired, Monday Night Football provides an opportunity to show responsibility in your betting, as there'll always be another wild Sunday to get lost in.This game probably sounded like a better idea when the schedule was first announced, but the Steelers and Colts are now largely playing out the string in the highly competitive AFC due to a combined seven wins. However, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis are franchises in different headspaces.Although the Steelers are in the midst of a rebuild, having Mike Tomlin at the helm means they have the incentive to get better, and fast. The idea is that potential franchise quarterback Kenny Pickett can get up to speed as quickly as possible. The Colts are treading water despite adding veteran quarterback Matt Ryan, who was supposed to lead them on a playoff run. Yet Indianapolis got a boost after a bizarre head coaching change, winning at Las Vegas and nearly shocking the Eagles.Steelers @ Colts (-2.5, 39.5)A Colts win over the Eagles last week would've brought Indy hope, getting the team back to .500 and showing it can beat anyone in the league. A healthy Jonathan Taylor ran behind an inspired offensive line on the first drive of Jeff Saturday's home debut, recording 47 yards and a touchdown. The vibes were high in Indianapolis. Taylor ran for 37 the rest of the game, and the Colts finished with just over 200 total yards after the 75-yard opening possession. The Steelers get to do something Monday they've yet to do this season - play indoors. That'll make things more comfortable on the offense, but it should also provide a fast track for Pittsburgh's pass rush and ever-present tormentor T.J. Watt.Indy has allowed 40 sacks this season in just nine games. The Bengals took advantage of the Steelers' soft corner play last week, but the Colts don't have the receiving talent, or a quarterback as good under pressure as Joe Burrow, to make Pittsburgh pay. The Steelers will disrupt the Colts offensively, and turnovers may result. On the other side, Pittsburgh's offense should take a step forward against a defense that's 26th in opponents' quarterback rating. The Steelers opened as full 3-point underdogs, but that was quickly taken, with the line dropping to +2.5. The +125 moneyline is the more aggressive play, but in a low-total game, we'll take the points. Use some patience just in case +3 comes back before kickoff. Otherwise, +2.5 is suitable.Pick: Steelers +2.5 (+100)Kenny Pickett over 210.5 passing yardsThe Colts are good against the run, which only gives the Steelers more reason to throw the ball. Pickett has averaged 38.5 pass attempts in his last four contests in largely neutral game states. With a plus-matchup and the restrictor plate off, we'll bet he does more with the throws he gets. His total attempts might stay under if Pittsburgh is leading late, but Pickett should top his yardage total due to a willingness to take shots down the field in a controlled environment.George Pickens longest reception over 18.5 yardsWhile taking the over 42.5 on George Pickens' total yardage is a viable bet, it's hard to imagine he doesn't pull down a pass from distance if he's cashing that wager. In the six games Pickett has finished this season, Pickens has only failed to top this total twice - once against the Eagles' excellent corners, and when he wasn't needed in a win over the Saints. He even had long receptions in a pair of games with the notoriously inaccurate Mitch Trubisky.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. If there's a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. Tampa Bay Buccaneers right tackle Tristan Wirfs is expected to be out for three-to-four weeks with an ankle injury he suffered in Sunday's overtime loss to the Cleveland Browns, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Wirfs was carted from the field and it initially appeared as though his injury could be season-ending, but his postgame X-rays were reportedly negative.Based on the All-Pro's timeline, he should be able to return before the end of the regular season. However, it's still a significant blow to the struggling Bucs, who sit atop the NFC South despite a disappointing 5-6 record. The 5-7 Atlanta Falcons are a game behind Tampa Bay, while the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints remain in contention for the division title despite 4-8 records.Josh Wells will likely fill in at right tackle in Wirfs' absence.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sunday Rundown recaps the most important developments from the day's action and examines their significance moving forward.Trev's big moment Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyHe's here, folks. It's been a slow build to this point, as Trevor Lawrence's rookie season was a bit of a mess. And as much as we can (and should) put the blame on Urban Meyer, there aren't a whole lot of people who want to hear that kind of excuse when you're the No. 1 overall pick. Fair enough. After some inspiring play to start this season, he had another five-game stretch in October that wasn't so hot. Naturally, this caused many to focus on the negative and wonder if he'd ever live up to the lofty draft status. Don't look now, but the flashes of brilliance are suddenly becoming his standard.Lawrence had actually been playing at an especially high level in the two games heading into Jacksonville's Week 11 bye. Only one of which resulted in a win, but both efforts saw him take care of the ball, make plays with his legs, and connect on a number of the big-time throws that made him such an enticing prospect coming out of Clemson. And then he took it to another level Sunday against the Ravens, authoring the signature moment of his young career. The first crucial point in the action came early in the fourth quarter, with the Ravens up nine and threatening to put the game away. Lawrence led the Jaguars on a clutch 14-play, 75-yard drive to get into the end zone and keep the contest within reach. A field goal following a Ravens turnover temporarily put Jacksonville ahead, but Baltimore again went up by a touchdown with just over two minutes to play.Lawrence responded by engineering a 10-play, 75-yard drive that featured several jaw-dropping throws, including an incredible touchdown strike to Marvin Jones. Riding the momentum, Doug Pederson was content to keep the ball in his young quarterback's hands to play for the win. Lawrence came through with a two-point strike to Zay Jones that, despite the best efforts of Justin Tucker, effectively ended it.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers left Sunday's 40-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering a rib injury in the third quarter."Had a hard time breathing, rotating my body," Rodgers said postgame, according to Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire. The Packers initially announced that Rodgers had sustained an oblique injury. The 38-year-old, who was sacked three times versus Philly, added that he'll get more tests on Monday."As long as I check out OK tomorrow, I expect to play next weekend," said Rodgers, who earlier this week announced that he's also been playing with a broken thumb since Week 5.Packers head coach Matt LaFleur doesn't plan to shut down Rodgers for the rest of the season as long as the veteran signal-caller is healthy enough."If Aaron is healthy and ready to go, I anticipate him being out there," LaFleur said, according to Bill Huber of Packer Central.Rodgers, the reigning NFL MVP, said postgame he'd be open to conversations about adjusting his role if Green Bay is eliminated from playoff contention but added, "As long as we're mathematically alive, I'd like to be out there," according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.Rodgers completed 11 of 16 pass attempts for 140 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions before leaving the contest with the Packers trailing 34-23.Jordan Love entered the game for Green Bay with 11:11 left in the fourth quarter. Love connected with rookie receiver Christian Watson on a 63-yard catch-and-run touchdown in his first drive under center. The third-year passer, whom the Packers drafted in the first round in 2020, went 6-for-9 passing with 113 yards and one touchdown in his relief appearance Sunday. The 4-8 Packers have now lost two straight and visit the Chicago Bears next week.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Allen Robinson is set to undergo foot surgery that will end his 2022 season, head coach Sean McVay said Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Robinson sustained the injury late Friday, according to The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue. He was ruled inactive ahead of the Rams' 26-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12.The reigning Super Bowl champions had high expectations for Robinson after signing him to a three-year, $46.5-million contract during free agency in March. He tallied 33 receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns this season for an average of 10.3 yards per catch.Robinson recorded back-to-back 1,000-plus-yard campaigns in 2019 and 2020 as a member of the Chicago Bears. The 29-year-old's injury is another blow to L.A.'s roster. Star wideout Cooper Kupp was placed on injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury in Week 10, and quarterback Matthew Stafford continues to deal with a strained neck that kept him out of Sunday's contest. The Rams dropped to 3-8 after Sunday's loss and are last in the NFC West.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is inactive for Sunday's game against the New York Jets due to a shoulder injury, the team announced.Despite injuring his oblique in pregame warmups, Trevor Siemian made the start for the Bears. It was previously announced before the game that Nathan Peterman would get the nod due to Siemian's ailment.Peterman was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad Saturday.Fields was listed as questionable Friday after reportedly dislocating his non-throwing shoulder in Week 11 versus the Atlanta Falcons. The 23-year-old, whom the Bears drafted 11th overall in 2021, has shown improvement in his second NFL season despite Chicago's struggles. Fields completed 59.6% of his passes for 1,642 yards and 13 touchdowns against eight interceptions across 11 games this year. He also rushed for 834 yards and seven scores. The 3-8 Bears have lost four in a row.New York is dealing with its own issues at quarterback. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray met with head coach Kliff Kingsbury during his injury absence to talk out the issues between the two sides, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The star quarterback and head coach reportedly came up with a plan - which focuses on communication - to get on the same page, Rapoport adds. A source described the situation to Rapoport as a "blessing in disguise."The nature of their relationship has been called into question after Murray and Kingsbury were caught trading words on the field this season.

The Los Angeles Rams are uncertain quarterback Matthew Stafford will return this season, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Stafford, who landed in concussion protocol twice in November, will miss Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a strained neck. Stafford reentered the protocol after last Sunday's contest, though it was never determined he suffered a second concussion. The Rams reportedly don't feel the need to rush injured players like Stafford or wide receiver Cooper Kupp back to the field unless the team turns its season around. Kupp underwent ankle surgery earlier this month.Despite the uncertainty, there are no plans to shut down Stafford, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Head coach Sean McVay said earlier this week that Stafford felt numbness in his legs after a hit Sunday, but he's improved in recent days, Rapoport adds.Undrafted quarterback Bryce Perkins will likely make his first career start Sunday against the Chiefs with Stafford sidelined.Los Angeles is amid a Super Bowl hangover this season, dropping six of its last seven games for a 3-7 record. It's the laughter that's what keeps us from crying in the sports betting space. A 3-7 week was brutal both due to the record and the way in which most of the bets were lost.PLAYER BET RESULTDavis MillsOver 19.5 comps19Hunter HenryOver 23.5 rec yds1 rec / 20 ydsJonathan TaylorOver 85.5 rush yds84 ydsJustin FieldsOver 17.5 longest rush17 ydsKenny PickettUnder 32.5 longest pass comp33 ydsIt's a thin line between 8-2 and 3-7. In some cases, it can come down to scorekeeper decisions to round up or down on a play's yardage. However, they say it all evens out, so we'll hope that's the case this week.Sam Darnold longest pass completion under 31.5 yardsDarnold is back behind center for the Panthers. They've done a full circle at the quarterback position since Darnold finished last season as their No. 1. In those final three games of 2021, Darnold threw 100 total passes following an injury. He completed just one for longer than 30 yards. In what should be a low-scoring game against a tough Broncos defense, and after so much time off, look for Darnold to manage Carolina's offense with shorter passes.Trevor Lawrence over 14.5 rushing yardsIn the first four games of the season, Lawrence recorded no more than three carries. In the six games since, he's had at least three rushes while going over 14.5 yards five times. That may be because he's been able to rekindle his zone-read plays with former Clemson teammate Travis Etienne, who's become Jacksonville's No. 1 tailback. Fresh off of a bye, Lawrence should scramble over this number against the Ravens' pressure.Mike Evans over 4.5 receptionsEvans has averaged 5.4 catches over nine games this season. Despite the Buccaneers' stubborn desire to run the football, Evans has been targeted 43 times in the last four games while catching at least five passes in each contest. So, what are we missing here? Because it's not an awesome Browns pass defense.Cordarrelle Patterson under 47.5 rushing yardsPatterson crept over this number last week, but that was just the third time he's done so all season. The Commanders' run defense is too good, and the Falcons have so many options that Patterson might be better used as a receiver. Expect fewer than 10 carries for Patterson, and tough sledding when he gets them.Joe Burrow over 36.5 pass attemptsThe Bengals might have gotten lucky with the timing of Joe Mixon's absence. Samaje Perine thrives in the passing game, which the Titans struggle to defend. Even if Ja'Marr Chase isn't ready to return, there's still reason to believe that Cincinnati will go with a throw-heavy game plan in Tennessee.Tua Tagovailoa under 291.5 passing yardsIt's easy to understand why Tagovailoa would have his highest yardage total of the year here. The Dolphins, who are 14-point favorites, should be able to do whatever they want against Houston's defense. However, since the Texans have been dominated on the ground this season, and because Tua may not be needed in the fourth quarter for a second straight game, he stays under this inflated total.Michael Carter over 45.5 rushing yardsExpectations on Mike White have to be tempered despite the Jets' recent quarterback change. New York's defense just needs good field position to get its work done, which means a big workload for both Michael Carter and James Robinson. Both tailbacks are worth a play for an anytime touchdown at +150 or better as well.Kyler Murray under 248.5 passing yardsHamstring injuries are notoriously sketchy, but this number suggests Murray will make it through the game unscathed. Even if he does, the way to attack the Chargers is on the ground. Those carries will take away from Murray's pass attempts. Plus, the Chargers' offense can sustain drives against the Cardinals, which will limit overall possessions.Tyler Lockett longest reception over 22.5 yardsTwo weeks ago, we correctly faded Lockett against a good Bucs secondary because we didn't think he'd be able to get open. This is the opposite scenario. Lockett can find space down the field against the Raiders' secondary, which gives up the fourth-most yards per pass. Hopefully, Geno Smith will find him deep at least once.George Kittle under 45.5 receiving yardsOn Monday, we were on Kittle to go over his yardage because the Cardinals are the worst in the NFL at defending tight ends. Six days later, he faces the Saints, who've given up the third-fewest yards per game to opposing tight ends. The 49ers have plenty of targets to choose from, so expect them to look elsewhere Sunday.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. If there’s a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will return Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers after missing two games with a hamstring injury.Murray was a full participant in the Cardinals' practice sessions this week, and Arizona didn't give him an injury designation ahead of Week 12."He's had a good week," head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Friday, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com. "He got some full-speed reps today, looked sharp. We're excited."He feels great, feels 100%," he added.Murray is coming back amid a stretch in which the Cardinals have lost three of their past four contests. Colt McCoy started in place of Murray the past two weeks, compiling a 1-1 mark.Murray led the Cardinals to a 3-6 record prior to sustaining the hamstring issue. The two-time Pro Bowler has 2,168 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions in nine starts in 2022. He's also added 359 rushing yards for two scores.Kingsbury also said he feels good about getting wide receiver Marquise Brown back for Sunday. The dynamic receiver suffered a fractured foot in Week 6 and was placed on injured reserve. He returned to practice nearly a week ago and is trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's contest."He's been progressing," Kingsbury said. The Cardinals sit in third place in the NFC West with a 4-7 record.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Buffalo Bills pass-rusher Von Miller didn't tear his ACL but will be out indefinitely as doctors review other damage to his knee to determine the full extent of the injury, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's unknown how long Miller will be sidelined. The damage could force him to miss a few weeks or end his season, though more information is being gathered, Schefter adds. The damage is reportedly a torn lateral meniscus, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Surgery is likely, but Miller may be able to be postpone it until after the season, Rapoport adds.Miller isn't expected to decide how he'll proceed with the injury for another week or two, Schefter reports. Bills head coach Sean McDermott confirmed that the linebacker won't play in Thursday's Week 13 matchup with the New England Patriots. The veteran was carted to the locker room in Thursday's win over the Detroit Lions after he got rolled up on by a Lions offensive lineman.Signed by Buffalo in the offseason, Miller leads the team with eight sacks. He's also added 12 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for a loss. Other pass-rushers on the Bills' roster include Gregory Rousseau, A.J. Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Andy Reid announced Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher.Smith-Schuster missed the team's Week 11 win over the Los Angeles Chargers due to landing in the concussion protocol after taking a big hit in the previous game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 26-year-old's return comes at a convenient time for a Chiefs receiving corps that will be without Kadarius Toney for Sunday's matchup due to a hamstring injury. They also lost Mecole Hardman to injured reserve last week.Smith-Schuster trails only tight end Travis Kelce for the team leads in receptions (46) and receiving yards (615). Fields is reportedly dealing with a shoulder dislocation. The young signal-caller appeared to suffer the injury in the fourth quarter of last week's loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He finished the contest while seemingly in pain and threw a late game-sealing interception.Chicago is all but eliminated from playoff contention after producing a 3-8 record during the first 11 weeks of the season. But Fields made significant strides in his sophomore campaign despite the Bears' struggles. He has thrown for 1,642 yards and 13 touchdowns against eight interceptions while adding seven scores on the ground. The Buffalo Bills escaped with a 28-25 road victory against the Detroit Lions in the first game of the NFL's Thanksgiving tripleheader. After Detroit nailed a 51-yard kick to tie the contest with 23 seconds remaining, quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Stefon Diggs connected for a big play to get Buffalo quickly into field-goal range.Kicker Tyler Bass then hit a 45-yard attempt to earn the AFC East club's eighth win of the season.More to come.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said Wednesday he's been playing with a broken right thumb since Week 5, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic."I think I've had worse injuries that I've played with. Definitely a challenge, but the days off helped me feel better this week," said Rodgers, who added he hasn't considered undergoing surgery.Rodgers injured his thumb on the last play of Green Bay's matchup with the New York Giants in London. Cameras have since shown Rodgers holding his thumb on multiple occasions during games this season, but he has yet to miss a game. He was a limited participant at practice Wednesday."It doesn't make a difference with me playing," the 38-year-old said, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "It doesn't make a difference. You saw the tape on my thumb. Didn't make a difference."Rodgers, the reigning back-to-back MVP, has completed 64.6% of his passes through 11 appearances in 2022, down from 68.9% in 2021. He's passed for 19 touchdowns against seven interceptions, the most picks he's thrown in a season since 2016.The Packers are coming off a loss to the Tennessee Titans on Thursday Night Football, which dropped them to 4-7. Green Bay visits the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Bettors are people too, and like most people, we like to play the blame game. We'll willfully ignore a miracle cover on a punt return touchdown at the death in New England (our handicap was good, and the Patriots should have won by a touchdown anyway!). We'll be annoyed that the Browns mega-backdoor pushed the Bills at -8 (reminding us to always line shop), the Colts couldn't close out our upset of the week, and a series of unfortunate events lifted the Chiefs and Chargers over 52.5 points. The commiserating is what keeps us sane.As it's happened all season, the only superior numbers available were on our push of Bills -8, but even with that graded as a refund, we still managed to come out of Week 11 on top in this section.BET TYPELAST WEEKSEASON (units)ATS trio2-0-1 (+2)17-12-4 (+3.8)ML upset-15-6 (+3.6)Totals-1.13-8 (-5.8)Teasers15-6 (-2.2)TOTAL+0.9-0.6Best bets ATSVikings -2.5Always give me a professional team in its next game after being embarrassed. The Vikings get a chance to bounce back from Sunday's fiasco with the Cowboys versus a team whose six wins came against five quarterbacks who aren't expected to start the next game for their team and Jared Goff.Mac Jones has been a disappointment this season. Overall, there's little reason to believe the Patriots' stagnant offense is going to find life four days after they needed a punt return to score their only touchdown over the Jets - especially since we may be getting the key number of three because of Kirk Cousins' struggles in night games.Jets -5.5Two signal-caller situations passing in the night. Based on standard power ratings, this line should be around a field goal, but with the assumption that the Bears will sit Justin Fields, who knows where their rating should fall to? Meanwhile, the reverse is true if the Jets can get even basic-level professional quarterback play. This line could go higher, so we'll grab it to -6 while we can.Rams +16No one's been lower on the Rams than I have - I've faded them repeatedly this season, and they've never shown up in this space. Until now. We're buying them at hopefully their lowest, thinking Bryce Perkins' legs provide a drive-extending element that Matthew Stafford doesn't but without the expectations.Perkins has 140 preseason pass attempts under his belt, but he also had 40 rushing attempts in the preseason, showing that Sean McVay has an idea of how to use him with preparation. After a big win over the Chargers, the Chiefs have an AFC Championship Game rematch next week with the Bengals - setting up the dreaded sandwich spot - and they'll be content with a 10 to 14-point win.Moneyline upset of the weekOur defined parameter for this section is underdogs paying at least +150.Jaguars +160The Ravens' red-zone touchdown conversion percentage has dropped to 20th in the league after converting less than 43% of their trips into TDs over a three-game stretch. Neither Lamar Jackson nor Mark Andrews is 100% healthy, and without top-level talent in its receiving corps and explosive tailbacks, Baltimore is defendable. The Jaguars are in a good position to play to the top of their range coming off their bye since every week of development under Doug Pederson seems to help Trevor Lawrence. Before the week off, the Jags' red-zone conversion percentage increased by a 60% rate in their last three games. With almost equal yards-per-play metrics, this matchup is closer to a toss-up than we think.Best total betBengals / Titans over 42 points (-115)The strongest aspect of the Titans' defense is its work against the run. Joe Mixon is potentially out for the Bengals, and Samaje Perine would replace his snaps - the latter being the better receiver of the two. Speaking of receivers, Cincinnati's hopeful that Ja'Marr Chase returns - at which point, why wouldn't the club just let Joe Burrow go to work? Aaron Rodgers' hand injury led to his inaccuracy against Tennessee last week, leaving some points off the scoreboard.Meanwhile, the Titans' offense is its healthiest this season, and that should breed confidence for Ryan Tannehill, especially with the return of first-round pick Treylon Burks. A close game with at least an average amount of possessions should lead to more points than the market expects.Best 6-point teaserPanthers +8.5 / Eagles -1The Panthers' defense is legit and can keep Russell Wilson confused. With Sam Darnold the latest to start under center, it's hard to imagine Carolina could be less efficient on offense than it has been with Baker Mayfield and PJ Walker - even though the Panthers have covered frequently and won numerous games outright. The Packers have shown they can be competitive, but a road win over the Eagles is asking a lot. The point spread is fairly priced at -7, but Philadelphia has had a week to tighten up its defensive line rotation with its new additions, and offensively, this is the best matchup for its run game in three weeks.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Quarterback Carson Wentz is back practicing with the Washington Commanders and has accepted his role as Taylor Heinicke's backup."I get it. It's part of the business," Wentz said, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.Wentz fractured a finger in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears. He was able to finish the game but underwent surgery a few days later and was placed on injured reserve Oct. 22.The 29-year-old said his finger is feeling good, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports. Wentz was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday. The Commanders now have 21 days to activate him or he'll be placed on injured reserve for the remainder of the season. Head coach Ron Rivera said Sam Howell will be Heinicke's backup Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.Heinicke has impressed since taking over as the starting quarterback in Week 7, leading the team to a 4-1 record."As a competitor, you want to be out there ... But at the same time, I have a great relationship with Taylor and all the guys ... and I'm going to do what I can to help and support him," Wentz added, per Jhabvala. The Commanders acquired Wentz in March to be their starting quarterback. Last season, we rocked and rolled our way to the Super Bowl with music-themed Thursday Night Football player props, joyfully celebrating the start of a new NFL week. This year, we'll use an episode from "Must See TV" cornerstone "Seinfeld" each week to remind us that betting is supposed to be fun, even when an absurd series of events leads to a losing bet."A man without hand is not a man. I've got so much hand I'm coming out of my gloves." - George Costanza about gaining the upper hand in his relationship after pre-emptively breaking up with his girlfriend. The human mind works in strange ways. George breaks up with Noel, and he immediately seems more appealing to her. After we demanded that the 2021 Vikings win more close games, the 2022 Vikes have won all of their one-score contests, and we still complain that they don't have a better point differential on the season.Meanwhile, we're willing to look the other way on the Patriots. Their six wins have come over Mitchell Trubisky, Jared Goff (with multiple injured weapons), Jacoby Brissett, Zach Wilson, Sam Ehlinger, and Wilson again. Only one of those quarterbacks will be starting for his team next week.Season 3, Episode 14 of "Seinfeld" featured Jerry and Elaine accompanying George to his classically-trained pianist girlfriend's recital, only to have it interrupted when Elaine laughs at a Pez dispenser that Jerry puts on her leg. Noel was embarrassed by the interruption - classical music's version of the 40-3 blowout.'The Pez Dispenser'George was about to get dumped, and he turned things around with a desperate move, getting Justin Jefferson-quality upper hand when Kramer invented the "pre-emptive breakup." It wouldn't last for George, and the excitement over Minnesota's win in Buffalo didn't, either.Like George and relationship success, Kirk Cousins and prime time don't go together, while the Patriots are expected to take advantage of the absence of offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw. The Vikings know Matthew Judon will be trying to menace Cousins like he has other opponents on the way to leading the league in sacks. How do the Vikings counter this attack? With Dalvin Cook on the ground and via screen passes and play-action bootlegs by Cousins. We know why the Patriots are good against the pass, but they're just OK against the run. At least Kevin O'Connell can plan around the hole Darrisaw leaves behind.Cook should be a significant part of the game plan to take the heat off Cousins, and strangely, he's gotten the upper hand with more than 100 yards from scrimmage in every other game this season.Pick: Dalvin Cook over 91.5 rushing + receiving yardsA TD that's definitely going to happenJefferson's fantasy managers might have needed an intervention on Sunday more than Richie Appel after he caught just three passes against the Cowboys. Jefferson's too good not to bounce back in a big way. Outside of an eight-catch, 94-yard game by Tyreek Hill in the opener, the closest thing to a true no. 1 wide receiver that New England has faced is Amari Cooper or Michael Pittman and their aforementioned quarterbacks. As "Joe Hollywood" George says, let's cut to the chase. Jefferson only has four touchdowns this season, but it's hard to imagine that he doesn't reach double-digit scores. With a TD in each of the two games prior to the fiasco versus the Cowboys, Cousins is obviously looking Jefferson's way with seven of his 19 red-zone targets in Weeks 9-10.Pick: Justin Jefferson anytime touchdown (+110)A TD that probably won't happen ... but maybe it doesJerry opens the show talking about women's application of perfume, calling the wrist "apparently an action-packed area." Well, this season, there's been no more action-packed area than over center, with the proliferation of quarterback sneaks. These long shots are never a day at the beach, but Cousins has two rushing touchdowns already this season (and nearly another in Buffalo) and could dive into the end zone like Kramer's Polar Bear Club into the ocean, or he could get loose on a play-action bootleg.Cousins is available anywhere from +900 to +1400 to score, and if he cashes this bet, somebody should dump the bucket of Gatorade on Marty Benson's head.Pick: Kirk Cousins anytime touchdown (+900)How to bet: The first two bets should be single-unit wagers to win a unit on minus prices and more than a unit on a plus-money bet. The last wager should be smaller, trying to win back your standard unit size.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. If there’s a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. The silver lining is it's easier to take a dramatic loss in the fifth game of the round-robin parlay when the first four all lost. Maybe that doesn't make us feel a whole lot better, and a 2-2-1 ATS record (34-19-3 overall) was underwhelming, but let's not be all doom and gloom. The Steelers had a halftime lead, the Colts led throughout, the Chargers were up four points with less than two minutes left, and Bears-Falcons was a coin-flip game. Maybe it just means we're saving the outright wins for a cluster on another week? How it worksWe parlay five underdogs we like against the spread in 10 different three-team parlays. Using every combination of a three-team parlay is called a round robin. We'll use a total of 1.1 units to make 11 different bets: 10 three-team parlays and one five-team parlay, each for .1 units. You'll likely double your money if three teams pull off the upset. If four teams win, you're connecting on four separate parlays and will be very pleased with the return. If all five teams win, you'll be diving into a silo of gold doubloons like a young Scrooge McDuck.Who to playLions +350Why not kick off the week with a big shot? Admittedly, I don't expect the Lions to win outright, but they have won three straight games against professional football teams. The Bills have had a long couple of weeks, with the overtime dramatics in a loss to the Vikings, then dealing with a snowstorm and their game with the Browns being moved to Detroit. They traveled back and forth on a short week and are without five key defensive contributors.Buffalo gets back Tre'Davious White, but he's unlikely to be in midseason form, and a top-tier cornerback is less necessary against a Detroit team that will try to battle the Bills in the trenches. A potential shootout could see a beneficial bounce go the Lions' way for a change on Thanksgiving, and +350 is too good to pass up.Falcons +175Some good fortune has bolstered the Commanders' run with Taylor Heinicke. Barely beating the Sam Ehlinger Colts, getting all the calls and bounces against the Eagles, and then taking care of the Texans shouldn't boost their rating to a point where they're more than field-goal favorites to the Falcons. It's a strength-on-strength matchup, with Atlanta's run game against the Washington front. With minimal home-field advantage, we'll include this purely on value.Jaguars +160The Ravens are supposed to run through a weak remaining schedule - but hold that thought as they meet the rested Jaguars. Our third home underdog might be a little underrated, with Travis Etienne getting the primary usage at tailback. Off of a bye after a competitive loss at the Chiefs, Doug Pederson's group should have a plan for Baltimore's defense and can find some deep connections to Marvin Jones or Christian Kirk. The Ravens' offense still lacks dangerous playmakers to be afraid of, and the Jaguars are a top-10 run defense.Cardinals +145We missed the best price on the Cardinals, and backing Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury in November feels like a sub-optimal idea. But there's still reason to believe Arizona can topple the Chargers, which are never comfortable as favorites. The Cardinals seemed to quit late on Monday night against the 49ers, but there are more than a few teams that would be disinterested in getting hit in the mouth by that running game. The Chargers will beat you in a different, less imposing way as they try to set up the deep pass from Justin Herbert. The Cardinals can handle that. Meanwhile, a dramatic loss to the Chiefs put the AFC West all but out of reach, so who knows where the banged-up Bolts' heads are at for a trip to the desert after a pair of good prime-time showings.Steelers +120T.J. Watt and the Steelers get a rare chance to rush a statuesque quarterback on a fast track. Joe Burrow took advantage of Pittsburgh's soft corner play to move the ball down the field on Sunday, but the Colts' receivers don't strike the same fear. Matt Ryan should be a sitting duck, and the Colts' run game was unable to close out what could have been a win against the Eagles. Plus, Kenny Pickett gets his first chance to play in a controlled environment and should have some more success on deeper passes to George Pickens and Diontae Johnson. Here's how the odds look this week:PARLAYODDS (Approx.)DET+ATL+JAX+3400DET+ATL+ARZ+3100DET+ATL+PIT+2800DET+JAX+ARZ+3000DET+JAX+PIT+2700DET+ARZ+PIT+2500ATL+JAX+ARZ+1700ATL+JAX+PIT+1500ATL+ARZ+PIT+1400JAX+ARZ+PIT+1300DET+ATL+JAX+ARZ+PIT+18500Who are your five underdogs for a football betting lottery ticket?Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Last season, we rocked and rolled our way to the Super Bowl with music-themed Thursday Night Football player props, joyfully celebrating the start of a new NFL week. This year, we'll use an episode from "Must See TV" cornerstone "Seinfeld" each week to remind us that betting is supposed to be fun, even when an absurd series of events leads to a losing bet."All they care about is money. I'm about more than money. I'm about people." - George Constanza, lying to a woman on the subway about how he's in the (stock) market. The Cowboys are double-digit favorites against the division rival Giants - a situation that's made them uncomfortable on recent Thanksgiving afternoons. In Episode 13 of the powerhouse Season 3, the gang each finds themselves in an awkward position on the intricate New York subway system. So with the Giants as this year's holiday visitors to Dallas, we'll look for some lessons from the show to impart on our player prop picks.'The Subway'Jerry opens the show with a stand-up bit about bumper cars at an amusement park - more common in an era when we gleefully subjected kids to whiplash as a form of recreation. It's the Giants' secondary that's banged up this week, though. There are injury designations all over the depth chart, having lost Adoree Jackson in Sunday's loss to Detroit. CeeDee Lamb was turning heads quickly in the first matchup, racking up eight catches on 12 targets from Cooper Rush. With Dak Prescott healthy and Ezekiel Elliott making the Cowboys more comfortable in pass protection, Dallas can go back to throwing more than it runs. It took a 30-point lead for the Cowboys to halt the train they were running over the Vikings with Sunday - as Skol fans were screaming for mercy like Elaine on a stopped subway car - and even then, Lamb had five catches in limited work. Don't expect the Cowboys to let up against the Giants, wanting to put on a rare good holiday performance for the home crowd and captive international audience.Pick: CeeDee Lamb over 5.5 receptionsA TD that's definitely going to happenKramer breaks down all the ways to get to Coney Island - New York hot dog eaters' promised land - when Jerry reminds the group that there's a direct route. The problem with the Cowboys' touchdown scorers is that there are many direct routes to the end zone. The Giants' straight-line shot - Saquon Barkley is prohibitively priced, so we'll take a slight detour to paydirt, backing the Cowboys' primary tight end. With at least five targets in each of his last four games, Dalton Schultz continues to be one of Prescott's favorite targets. The Giants are without their two top corners, which suggests they'll play minimal man-to-man coverage. Schultz can find the soft spots in the zone and could score from further out. He's also an option on play-action passes near the goal line so, at nearly 2-to-1, we'll ride him like Kramer watching Pappernick come home at the off-track betting counter.Pick: Dalton Schultz anytime touchdown (+187)A TD that probably won't happen ... but maybe it doesIf George was a smarter man, he'd have realized that the woman he gets off the subway with is a way bigger long shot than he believes, but at least he only lost $8 when she comfortably robs him. We can throw that on another intriguing stranger in a scoring situation - Isaiah Hodgins. The little-known Giants receiver was acquired off the Bills' practice squad during New York's bye week. In two games played since then, he's caught five passes for 70 yards while getting the third-most snaps among the receivers. Wan'Dale Robinson is out for the season with an ACL injury, so Hodgins should get even more attention in a contest the Giants will likely be trailing in.Even in a potential blowout, Hodgins should be out there gaining experience and could be good for a garbage-time touchdown, making us happier than the studio audience when Kramer gets saved from a mugger by the undercover subway cop.Pick: Isaiah Hodgins anytime touchdown (+800)How to bet: The first two bets should be single-unit wagers to win a unit on minus prices and more than a unit on a plus-money bet. The last wager should be smaller, trying to win back your standard unit size.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. If there’s a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. Last season, we rocked and rolled our way to the Super Bowl with music-themed Thursday Night Football player props, joyfully celebrating the start of a new NFL week. This year, we'll use an episode from "Must See TV" cornerstone "Seinfeld" each week to remind us that betting is supposed to be fun, even when an absurd series of events leads to a losing bet."What do you know about wagons?""I know enough not to get on them." - Jerry, in response to an inebriated heckler. You may have heard that nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills. But as 10-point favorites in Detroit, we can debate like George and Jerry in "The Red Dot" about whether to be on or off the Bills' bandwagon. I'll be off the wagon here, taking the Lions, plus the points, and regretting it every time there's an obvious imperfection on that sale item like when George bought Elaine a cashmere sweater."The Red Dot"Unlike the massively discounted blemished sweater, there are no markdowns of that nature in the prop market.Jared Goff's yardage total of 248.5 is nestled within its usual range when he plays indoors; he's hit the over in three of the Lions' last four games at home this season. Those three overs came when Detroit's opponents - the Dolphins, Seahawks, and Commanders - racked up 396 yards or more, which required the Lions to keep up. The under came against the Packers, who were scoreless in the first half of their Week 9 visit. In this game, the Bills' offensive pace should force the Lions' to throw a lot.Pick: Jared Goff over 248.5 passing yardsA TD that's definitely going to happenJosh Allen's elbow injury was a sobering reminder to the Bills that their quarterback's health is their top priority.Maybe we're getting fooled by the Bills' new offensive outlook, like when Elaine tricked George into admitting that he knew about the red dot on her sweater, but it seems Buffalo has turned to the ground game the past two contests in order to keep Allen upright. The Bills have run the ball 60 times during that stretch, while Devin Singletary recorded his first three rushing touchdowns of the season. At least against the Lions, Allen is less likely to be "the guy" around the goal line.Pick: Devin Singletary anytime touchdown (+100)A TD that probably won't happen ... but maybe it does"Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?"Maybe it wasn't as clear an ethical violation as Costanza's night with the cleaning lady, but the Lions did gift starting tight end TJ Hockenson to the division-rival Vikings. In the three games since, Brock Wright has basically seen his snaps double. He's had just four targets, but that's had a lot to do with the Lions using a run-heavy offense due to game-script situations. Since we think they'll throw the ball more Thursday, it's more likely Goff sees Wright in the end zone as easily as everyone spots the red dot on the cashmere sweater.Pick: Brock Wright anytime touchdown (+500)How to bet: The first two bets should be single-unit wagers to win a unit on minus prices and more than a unit on a plus-money bet. The New York Jets are benching quarterback Zach Wilson.Mike White will receive the start for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, head coach Robert Saleh announced Wednesday.Members of the Jets were informed in a team meeting shortly before Saleh's presser that Wilson wouldn't keep the starting job for the Week 12 matchup, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Wilson's play has come under increased scrutiny after a putrid performance last week in a loss to the New England Patriots. The second-year pro completed nine of his 22 passes for 77 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also finished with a season-low 50.8 passer rating.Saleh deflected criticism of Wilson postgame following the loss to the Patriots. However, he left the door open to possibly benching Wilson earlier this week after he didn't commit to starting the former No. 2 overall pick for the Bears matchup. The Jets head coach said Wilson's benching is "not a nail in his coffin" for the quarterback's New York tenure."Zach's career here is not over," Saleh explained. "That's not even close to the case. The full intent is to make sure Zach gets back on the football field at some point this year. When that is, I'll make that decision. I'm going to take it day-to-day."He added: "The young man needs a reset. His decision-making's been fine. His practice stuff, all that stuff, has been fine, but there's some basic fundamental things that have gotten really out of whack for him. This is just an opportunity for him to sit back, focus on those things, find a way to reconnect to all the different things we fell in love with during the draft process."Wilson will be inactive for Sunday's game against Chicago as Joe Flacco will serve as White's backup.White appeared in four games for the Jets last season. He tallied a 1-2 record over three starts with five touchdowns and eight interceptions.Flacco started the first three contests of the 2022 campaign as Wilson recovered from a knee injury. However, Flacco has slipped to No. 3 on the team's depth chart.Wilson has thrown for four touchdowns to five interceptions this season while completing just over 55% of his passes. He's tallied an 8-12 record since being selected in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Jets are in the midst of a tight AFC East race at 6-4. The Patriots hold an identical record, while the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins share a 7-3 mark.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach/run game coordinator Sean Kugler was fired Tuesday after he groped a woman in Mexico City over the weekend, sources told ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. The reported incident happened Sunday night. The club terminated Kugler and sent him back to Arizona on Monday after being notified of the ordeal by Mexican authorities. The Cardinals were in Mexico City for their Week 11 contest against the San Francisco 49ers. They lost the game 38-10.Head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced Kugler's dismissal Tuesday but didn't give a reason for the sudden termination."We relieved him of his duties, and he was sent home Monday morning prior to the game," Kingsbury said. "It's challenging anytime you make a staff change in that type of manner, and I'm just going to leave it at that."Kugler's duties will be turned over to assistant offensive line coach Brian Natkin and tight ends coach Steve Heiden.Kingsbury hired Kugler, 56, to be the offensive line coach in 2019.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Football on Thanksgiving is synonymous with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys. Those teams have hosted back-to-back matchups on the holiday since the dawn of the Super Bowl era. But neither was involved in the NFL's strangest Thanksgiving clash. That game took place 70 years ago. Back then, the Dallas Texans earned the only win of their sorry existence, punishing the overconfident Chicago Bears for fielding a depleted lineup in Akron, Ohio. A high school championship contested on the same grass earlier that day - Thursday, Nov. 27, 1952 - drew six times as many fans. Akron Beacon JournalBefore the pro game kicked off, Texans coach Jimmy Phelan puffed on a cigar in the bowels of the Rubber Bowl and told his squad to be thankful. Horrid on the field and hemorrhaging money, the Texans were sold to the league at midseason and hit the road for the rest of 1952. Phelan pointed out a silver lining: The crowd in Akron was so small, the players could walk through the stands and shake hands with every spectator."All of those clubs who have won have never had the experience that you're going to have today," Phelan told the team, as recalled by the late halfback Buddy Young in a TV feature. No NFL franchise has folded since the Texans did the month after Thanksgiving. They were born from the remains of the New York Yanks, who went belly up themselves in 1951. Dallas businessman Giles Miller bought the Yanks' player contracts in order to break new ground, establishing the league's first team in a southern state. The NFL in 1952 was made up of recognizable clubs and inaccurate passers. One quarterback threw for more than 200 yards per game that year; the All-Pro passers failed to complete half of their attempts. Los Angeles Rams cornerback Night Train Lane hauled in 14 interceptions in a dozen appearances, setting a single-season record that still stands. The Texans' futility was comprehensive. They ranked last in yardage gained, sacks allowed, points against, punts forced, field goals attempted and made, and punt blocks conceded. Accounting for sacks and picks, the average Texans dropback produced 0.7 adjusted net yards, per Pro Football Reference, meaning they were always liable to lose ground.Bad luck was the only kind they experienced. Phelan was a renowned college bench boss, but the three pro teams he coached all folded in a four-year span. The Texans drafted a future Hall of Famer at second overall in 1952, only to have the player, California-born-and-raised linebacker Les Richter, say he'd sooner retire than move to Dallas. The Texans traded Richter to the Rams, then settled for moral victories when the '52 season started. Trailing 42-0 in L.A. in Week 6, they scored three touchdowns to ruin the 23-point spread. Down by one score to the Rams in its Week 7 rematch, Dallas gave up a pick-6 and a punt-return touchdown in the fourth quarter, saddening 10,000 fans at the Cotton Bowl.Halfback George Taliaferro, shown in this playing card, was one of two Texans who made the 1952 Pro Bowl. Transcendental Graphics / Getty ImagesThe Texans' cavernous home sat 75,000 but was never more than a quarter full. College football was king in Dallas, and as ESPN once noted in a story about the team's demise, the Texans alienated Black fans by segregating them in worse seats. Before national TV revenue enriched NFL franchises, they depended on ticket sales to survive. Phelan canceled practice ahead of the Rams rematch so his players could race to the bank to deposit their pay.Miller forfeited control of the Texans to the NFL in mid-November, so the 0-9 team faced the Bears on Thanksgiving at a neutral site. Content to relax as they played out the string, most of the Texans ran volleyball drills at practice in Akron, using the crossbar as a makeshift net, while a few linemen took snaps at quarterback."And what did you say the Texans have for a record?" Don Plath, a columnist for the Akron Beacon Journal, asked rhetorically in the next day's newspaper.Their opponent in Akron was mediocre in 1952 but historically formidable. Coached by founding owner George Halas, an NFL champion in four different decades, the Bears thumped the Texans 38-20 at Wrigley Field in Week 3 and edged the favored Lions by a point four days before Thanksgiving. Those teams, and the Green Bay Packers, were part of the '52 holiday slate, the first to be televised nationally via the DuMont network.Texans-Bears commanded little buzz locally. More than 14,000 fans on Thanksgiving morning flocked to the Rubber Bowl to watch Akron's high school title game, but only 2,208 were present for the NFL contest, per the Beacon Journal. Halas opted to rest many of his starters shortly before the 2:45 p.m. kickoff. Players lit fires in trash cans on either sideline to offset the wind chill, according to ESPN.The Texans greeted every fan personally before the Bears fell flat. Two Bears drives stalled deep in Texans territory when kicker George Blanda - the NFL's future career scoring leader - missed short field-goal tries. Doubling as the quarterback, Blanda was intercepted in the end zone on another series and a teammate fumbled inside the Texans' 10-yard line, though Chicago soon managed to tackle Young behind his goal line for a safety.Chicago fumbling the ensuing free kick sprung the Texans for back-to-back touchdown drives. The second score came off a splendid trick play. Texans halfback George Taliaferro - the NFL's first Black draft pick - ran right and threw cross-field to the back of the end zone, where receiver Dick Wilkins leaped to snag the ball under duress.Sloppiness burned both teams after halftime. Another Chicago interception - in all, the Bears threw four picks and lost four fumbles - led to Texans quarterback Frank Tripucka sneaking into the end zone from a yard out. Tripucka fumbled at his own goal line later, then was picked off as the Bears punched in three straight scores, storming back to lead 23-20 as the fourth quarter waned. The starters Halas inserted to save face couldn't contain Tripucka in the clutch. Acquired via trade before the second Rams matchup, Tripucka authored his new team's greatest moment. His six completions on the 75-yard drive that clinched the victory included a red-zone lob to Tom Keane, who wrested the ball from his defender's grasp. Two plays later, Tripucka sneaked to the left and cleared the plane with 34 seconds on the clock.Dallas QB Frank Tripucka. Denver Post / Getty ImagesThe Texans won 27-23, improving to 1-9 on the strength of an all-time upset. Halas kicked a Bears defensive back and berated his players for losing to "these bums," Chicago linebacker George Connor recounted years later in the TV feature."Unaccustomed as I am to winning, I feel alright," Phelan, succinct in victory, told The Associated Press postgame."The hopeless, homeless, hapless, what-have-you Texans, humiliated and mutilated in nine previous games and hungry enough to eat bear, did just that," the Akron Beacon Journal wrote in its recap. Besides the Bears, the only people who felt let down by the thriller were "the turkey eaters who stayed home," the paper added. The Texans' demise loomed. They lost consecutive blowouts and were disbanded two weeks after Thanksgiving. Phelan never coached again and Tripucka, like half of his teammates, never returned to the NFL. (He did later star for the Denver Broncos in the upstart American Football League.)Defunct for 70 years, the Texans remain linked to modern NFL teams. They beat Chicago, share a nickname with Houston, and were a forerunner to Indianapolis: the Texans' contracts were transferred to the expansion Baltimore Colts. A different Dallas Texans team was founded in the AFL and moved to Kansas City to become the Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Cowboys debuted in the NFL in 1960 and boomed in popularity. As for the Lions, the other Thanksgiving mainstay: They pounded the Texans 41-6 to end the '52 season, then kept rolling and won the NFL title.Nick Faris is a features writer at theScore.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward blasted Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins after the Niners' 38-10 victory on Monday Night Football."He thinks he a tough guy," Ward said, according to Jacob Hutchinson of KNBR. "He thinks he (is) still one of the best receivers in the league and he (is) really not."Hopkins finished the game with nine catches for 91 yards. Ward lined up strictly against Hopkins in the second half and held him to just two catches for 14 yards."He tried to intimidate us, but forget him, we did our thing," Ward said. "We went out there and got a dub. ... He was just yip-yapping all game, but we don't care about that. We just wanted to win."Ward racked up 10 tackles and one tackle for loss Monday as the 49ers' defense held the Cardinals to just one touchdown. The 26-year-old claimed Hopkins was playing dirty throughout the night."He tried to clip me, he grabbed me by the throat. He grabbed my facemask on one play, so I don't respect his game," Ward said.Ward took a shot at the six-game suspension Hopkins received this season for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy."That's Steroid Boy," Ward said. The Cardinals and 49ers will face off again in the teams' season finale Jan. 8.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Carolina Panthers are making another change at quarterback.Carolina will start Sam Darnold on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, the team announced.Darnold gets the nod over Baker Mayfield, who struggled in a 13-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last week. Mayfield joined the team in a trade from the Cleveland Browns in the offseason and began the 2022 campaign as the starter but lost the role to P.J. Walker.Walker was inactive against Baltimore with a high ankle sprain.Darnold will be Carolina's third different starting quarterback this season. Mayfield and Walker have started six and five games, respectively. The 25-year-old Darnold, whom the team acquired in a trade with the New York Jets last year, struggled in his first season with the Panthers. He passed for only nine touchdowns against 13 interceptions in 12 appearances. Carolina went 4-7 with Darnold under center. The 2018 third overall pick, who's yet to attempt a pass in 2022, has a 17-32 record as a starter throughout his career. The 3-8 Panthers currently sit fourth in the NFC South. They've averaged only 18.8 points per game, ranking 25th.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Dak Prescott is the latest member of the Dallas Cowboys to put out feelers toward free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.The signal-caller revealed Tuesday that he's reached out to Beckham, who's been linked heavily to the Cowboys recently."He knows how much I want him here," Prescott said, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota. "I’ve definitely sent some messages. There's been a little back-and-forth. Just making sure he understands that we want him here."Owner Jerry Jones confirmed Sunday that Beckham will visit the Cowboys following Thanksgiving. The wideout reportedly also has an upcoming meeting with the New York Giants.Jones declined to discuss Tuesday whether there have been negotiations with the free agent, but he said he believes a potential addition like Beckham would be helpful for a 7-3 Cowboys squad."If you can improve this team right now and it's within reason, you should do it. And we have a chance," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, per Machota.Beckham, who suffered an ACL injury in February's Super Bowl, is reportedly expected to be ready for an on-field return by early December. The Cowboys head into Week 12 trailing the 9-1 Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Tom Brady plans to show a more critical side of himself when he makes the move to the television booth. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback spoke Monday about his future broadcasting career with NBA Hall of Famer and longtime TNT analyst Charles Barkley on his "Let's Go!" podcast."In my second career, I'm gonna be on TV, and I'm gonna have the opportunity to be, I would say, more critical than what I've been as a player," Brady said. " I always think as a player, I gotta pick my spots in the locker room 'cause there's frustrations you have as a player. I always feel like I just go address them ... I never really do that through the media, I just go to the players, or I go to the coach, or I go to the person who can actually solve the problem."Brady admitted he has already started watching NFL games from a more critical perspective and tends to focus more on what went wrong rather than the "speculator" plays."I just feel like there's probably more of Johnny Miller in me, where, when I used to watch him on golf telecasts, it was just scathing sometimes. 'That guy choked under pressure' or whatever," Brady said. "And that's essentially how I end up seeing the game a lot now. Not that I want to be negative, but I do want to point (things) out."Brady signed a 10-year, $375-million deal with Fox earlier this year to join the network as its lead NFL analyst once his playing career ends. The contract will make him the highest-paid sports broadcaster in history.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
