Report: NFLPA claims NFL colluding to avoid fully guaranteed deals
The NFLPA filed a grievance claiming the NFL and clubs are colluding against players seeking fully guaranteed deals, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The NFLPA alleges that at an August meeting, owners banded together and agreed not to give out more fully guaranteed pacts. The NFLPA grievance comes after Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson received a $230-million fully guaranteed deal in March, which drew ire from some owners.Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti previously questioned whether Watson should have been the first to land a fully guaranteed contract while also admitting it would make negotiations tougher with other players.Negotiations between the Ravens and star signal-caller Lamar Jackson contributed to NFLPA talks about the grievance, Fowler notes. Contract talks were tabled between the two sides before the start of the season. Baltimore reportedly had no interest in satisfying the quarterback's demand for a fully guaranteed contract.A third-party arbitrator is expected to hear the grievance, which was filed "in recent weeks," Fowler adds.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. NFL Week 12 teasers: The more you know
Know your sportsbooks' rules. It's one of many standard pieces of advice doled out in the sports betting industry, but it only comes in handy occasionally. The Bills were -8 throughout last week, setting up -2 as the most prime of teaser legs. Then the NFL moved the game, and most sportsbooks voided all bets on Buffalo, even though the line didn't change on re-open after the venue switched to Detroit. When it comes to teasers, the Bills-Vikings matchup probably should have been voided entirely since the premise of the bet is that you're only allowed the price on one leg because you're parlaying it with another. However, some sportsbooks didn't void the bet. You would be sitting with Vikings +8 around a price of -270. While it doesn't feel like that's what you signed up for, it's an important reminder that teasers are parlays, and parlays still have individual outcomes at a certain price. Had the bet been voided, it would've saved bettors a loss when Minnesota got rolled. But if you liked a Minnesota teaser, you probably would have found something else to pair it with and lost anyway. Some games don't have a teaser-worthy point spread. For example, the Dolphins are 13-point favorites at home to the Texans. Teasing Miami doesn't even fully capture a touchdown. The alternative point spread of Dolphins -7 is priced at -225, which tells you that a teaser leg of -270 isn't at all valuable.Teasing the Texans to +19 might seem appealing. However, if you're worried about them losing by 14-19 points, you should be concerned about them losing by 20. Getting +13 to +19 over a big sample size isn't worth the price hike to -270.Let's use the short point spread in a game no one needs to watch on Sunday. We can use the Broncos' (-2.5) visit to the Panthers to exemplify the value of teasing a short underdog up.ALT. SPREADODDSPanthers +3.5-175Panthers +4.5-200Panthers +5.5-210Panthers +6.5-270Panthers +7.5-340Panthers +8.5-385The pricing significantly jumps once you move across -3, the key number, from -110 at +2.5 to -175 at +3.5, showing the importance of capturing that number in NFL betting. More importantly, Carolina's alternative spread (+8.5) is priced at -385, which is much higher than getting the team at +8.5 with a teaser leg at -270.To get an incredible deal on Panthers +8.5, we must pair them with another bet and win both to cash the ticket. Fortunately, we can choose that other leg from our weekly "teaser basket" using what we know about key numbers.Teaser basketLet's look at the mathematically optimal plays available for Week 12:TEAMSPREADTEASER LEGCowboys-8.5-2.5Panthers+2.5+8.5Titans+2.5+8.5Eagles-7-1Steelers+2.5+8.5The Cowboys are toggling between -8 and -9 in the market as of this writing, with those sitting at -9 doing so to protect against getting teased under a field goal.No matter who plays quarterback for the Panthers, their teaser leg has to be really good, given what we've seen from the Broncos' offense and the consistently good performances from the Carolina defense. The team's defensive unit single-handedly kept the Ravens within reach, allowing the Panthers to cover a point spread despite scoring just three points.Titans +2.5 has shown up in the market, but this line should react to whether Ja'Marr Chase is ready to return for the Bengals. The Eagles are up to a flat 7-point favorite at home to the Packers, moving up from -6.5. With Philadelphia's moneyline priced at -320, moving them to -1 at -270 has excellent value since the chances the Eagles take this contest by one is less than the 3.2% difference this suggests - and even that result would end in a push.Speaking of line moves, the market quickly reacted to the Steelers-Colts opening line, deciding that Indianapolis can't be a full 3-point favorite. If oddsmakers think that, imagine how they feel about the Colts winning a game by nine or more points.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. NFL Week 11 betting takeaways: Who's the best team in the NFL?
You don't need some made-up power rankings tweeted out just to get a rise out of the public. We have one of the most liquid markets in the world establishing the value of each team in the NFL. While we try to make the best guess at all 32 valuations based on how that market treated these teams before their last game, it's always nice to get a hint.
NFL Power Rankings - Week 12: What each team should be thankful for
The NFL Power Rankings are selected by a panel of theScore's football editors. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we're taking a look at what each team should be thankful for.1. Kansas City Chiefs (8-2) Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 1AFC West: This division hasn't been as competitive as we expected - the Chargers, Broncos, and Raiders are 11-19 combined. With Sunday's win against L.A., Patrick Mahomes is now 24-3 in his career against the AFC West.2. Philadelphia Eagles (9-1)Previous Rank: 2O-line: The Eagles are the only team in the NFC with a top-10 grade in both pass- and run-blocking, according to PFF.3. Dallas Cowboys (7-3)Previous Rank: 8Micah Parsons: No other defender has been as dominant as Parsons, who's the favorite to win the Defensive Player of the Year after finishing as runner-up during his rookie season in 2021.4. Miami Dolphins (7-3)Previous Rank: 4WR duo: Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have 2,026 receiving yards combined in 2022, which is more than nine entire teams.5. Buffalo Bills (7-3) Brett Carlsen / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 5Tre'Davious White's impending return: Justin Jefferson and Amari Cooper totaled 306 yards and three touchdowns versus Buffalo over the last two weeks. White, the Bills' No. 1 corner, has yet to play this season as he recovers from a torn ACL but is expected to return soon.6. San Francisco 49ers (6-4)Previous Rank: 7Jimmy Garoppolo: Jimmy G has clear limitations as a passer, but his experience under center has helped keep the 49ers' hopes alive after they lost starter Trey Lance to a season-ending injury in Week 2.7. Baltimore Ravens (7-3)Previous Rank: 6Schedule: Baltimore's remaining 2022 opponents currently have a 26-45 combined record, which gives the Ravens the second-easiest remaining schedule this season.8. Minnesota Vikings (8-2)Previous Rank: 3Short week: The Vikings have a chance to quickly put an embarrassing 37-point home loss to the Cowboys behind them with a Thursday night game on Thanksgiving Day against the New England Patriots.9. Cincinnati Bengals (6-4)Previous Rank: 9Trey Hendrickson's contract: Since signing a four-year deal with Cincy in 2021 with an average annual salary that ranks only 19th among edge rushers, Hendrickson ranks sixth in the NFL in sacks (20) and second in quarterback knockdowns (25).10. Tennessee Titans (7-3) Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 14Mike Vrabel: Tennessee lost A.J. Brown in the offseason and has dealt with several significant injuries again. But thanks to coach Vrabel's excellent job, the Titans are on track for a third straight AFC South win.11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-5)Previous Rank: 11Bad NFC South: The Buccaneers are first in the NFC South despite their early season struggles. They sit at 5-5 and have a path to host a playoff game without needing double-digit wins. 12. Seattle Seahawks (6-4)Previous Rank: 12Russell Wilson trade: The Seahawks moved on from their franchise quarterback last offseason and passed the torch to Geno Smith. The trade worked out well for Seattle, which is 6-4 and holds a playoff spot in the NFC.13. Washington Commanders (6-5)Previous Rank: 15Taylor Heinicke: Heinicke has outplayed Carson Wentz, who was acquired to be the starting quarterback this offseason. The Commanders are 4-1 since Heinicke took over as the starter, and they're now in the NFC playoff hunt.14. New England Patriots (6-4)Previous Rank: 17Defense: Despite being 25th in yards per game on offense this season, the Patriots are 6-4 due to outstanding play from their defense. They've allowed the second-fewest points per game this season.15. New York Giants (7-3) Steph Chambers / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 13Brian Daboll: The Giants were 10-23 in two seasons under previous head coach Joe Judge. Daboll turned the franchise around in just 10 games: They're 7-3 and hold a playoff spot in the NFC.16. New York Jets (6-4)Previous Rank: 10Defensive line: The Jets' investments in their defensive front are starting to pay off - they're fifth in sacks per game this season.17. Los Angeles Chargers (5-5)Previous Rank: 16Justin Herbert: The Chargers are 5-5 and sitting outside the playoff picture in the AFC, but they still have one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. With Keenan Allen and Mike Williams getting healthy, this offense can take off in the second half of the season.18. Atlanta Falcons (5-6)Previous Rank: 19Bright future: The Falcons have young building blocks on offense, like Drake London and Kyle Pitts, and are slated to have over $75 million in cap space in 2023, according to Over The Cap.19. Detroit Lions (4-6)Previous Rank: 22The Rams: By moving on from Matthew Stafford, Detroit is set up nicely for the future. The Lions own the Rams' first-round pick in 2023, which gives them ammo to acquire a franchise quarterback.20. Green Bay Packers (4-7) Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 20Christian Watson: The 23-year-old emerged as a legit weapon for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He has five touchdowns in his last two games.21. Arizona Cardinals (4-7)Previous Rank: 18Commitment: OK, maybe the Cardinals aren't thankful for this, but Kliff Kingsbury and Steve Keim sure are. The head coach and general manager received extensions running through 2027 for reasons that are becoming increasingly unclear.22. Chicago Bears (3-8)Previous Rank: 23Justin Fields: The Bears found their new franchise quarterback. That's more important than anything else Chicago could've reasonably expected to accomplish this season.23. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-7)Previous Rank: 24Doug Pederson: The Jaguars are a far more competitive team than their record would suggest. Pederson is showing the value of good coaching, as he's helped the organization move in the right direction after the Urban Meyer mess.24. Indianapolis Colts (4-6-1)Previous Rank: 25Fresh starts: Is Jeff Saturday a better coach than Frank Reich? No. But something about the chaos of the last few weeks suddenly has the Colts playing their best football of the season.25. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-7) Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 26George Pickens: The Steelers are tough to watch right now. Their second-round rookie receiver, on the other hand, is not. Pickens is a star.26. New Orleans Saints (4-7)Previous Rank: 29Good old times: The Saints are only beginning to pay the price for pushing so much money to the future in an effort to keep recent teams together. It didn't lead to a title, but it was a worthy gamble nonetheless.27. Los Angeles Rams (3-7)Previous Rank: 21Ring: The Rams famously mortgaged the future to go all-in for a title. And they won. What we're seeing now may be the beginning of the long-term consequences. The rebuild will be a painful process, but it was worth it.28. Cleveland Browns (3-7)Previous Rank: 27The Cowboys: Dallas was so transparent in its willingness to move Cooper last offseason that it lost all leverage in trade talks. Cleveland pulled off one of the best moves of the year when it acquired him for a late-round pick swap.29. Las Vegas Raiders (3-7)Previous Rank: 31Davante Adams: The Raiders failed to live up to expectations this year, but they won't have any regrets about their biggest move of the offseason. Adams leads all wide receivers with 10 touchdowns through 10 games.30. Carolina Panthers (3-8) Grant Halverson / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 28Deep pockets: Eating the rest of that Matt Rhule contract couldn't have been an easy decision for Panthers ownership. As we've seen since his dismissal, though, it was the right move for the future of this team.31. Denver Broncos (3-7)Previous Rank: 30Scapegoats: Nathaniel Hackett has been bad, and the Broncos should absolutely make a coaching change. The seemingly inevitable move will bring optimism that a new staff is all this team needed, conveniently delaying the conversation about whether the Wilson trade was an all-time bust.32. Houston Texans (1-8-1)Previous Rank: 322023 QB class: A runaway favorite for the No. 1 overall pick, the Texans will have an opportunity to draft their quarterback of the future. With Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud expected to headline this class, Houston could get its hands on a superstar.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Report: Stafford re-enters concussion protocol
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has re-entered the concussion protocol, reports Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.Stafford was inactive against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10 due to a concussion. He was cleared to play in Week 11 versus the New Orleans Saints but left the game in the third quarter to be evaluated for a concussion again and didn't return. The 34-year-old has completed 68% of his passes this campaign while passing for 2,087 yards and only 10 touchdowns against eight interceptions. He helped Los Angeles win the Super Bowl in his first year with the team last season. The Rams also roster quarterbacks Bryce Perkins and John Wolford, the latter of whom started against the Cardinals but was inactive in Week 11 due to a neck injury. Head coach Sean McVay said Monday the Rams have discussed signing another quarterback, according to Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network.Perkins was 5-for-10 passing with 64 yards and gained 39 yards on five rushing attempts after replacing Stafford on Sunday. The Rams, who sit fourth in the NFC West with a 3-7 record, visit the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jefferson: Vikings' 40-3 loss to Cowboys 'a lesson learned'
Although Justin Jefferson characterized the Minnesota Vikings' 40-3 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys as "embarrassing" and "a disaster all around," the wide receiver is choosing to look for the silver lining in the defeat."It's just a lesson learned, just like (after Minnesota's Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles)," Jefferson said, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert."We're learning things about each other, learning ways to win. And it's all going to turn out better for us later in the season when we get to the playoffs and we get to that stretch where we need to win and we need to know what to do and how to change up the plan if things are not going well."The Vikings entered Sunday riding a seven-game win streak that included a statement victory on the road against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10. However, the Cowboys limited them to 1-for-11 on third downs and outgained Minnesota 458-183 in total yards. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was sacked seven times.Jefferson said he thinks Minnesota didn't make enough adjustments during the contest."It's tough with Kirk getting sacked before you're even getting out of the break," Jefferson said. "It's definitely being in a tough situation, but we've just got to move toward more (of a) quick game, getting the ball out quicker, putting the ball in space, and letting people work.""If things are not working out the way we planned, then we need to find a way to adjust and go toward something that will work better for us," he added. "We just can't continue to keep doing the same thing throughout the game even though it's not working."Jefferson continued: "This is a new team. This is a new coaching staff. We have new players on this team. We're all still learning each other."The 23-year-old Jefferson, who put on a show with 10 receptions for 193 yards and one touchdown last week against the Bills, caught only three passes and 33 yards versus the Cowboys. He's now up to 1,093 yards and four touchdowns on 72 catches this season. The Vikings will try to get back into the win column Thursday night against the New England Patriots.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cardinals' Murray inactive vs. 49ers, McCoy to start MNF
The Arizona Cardinals will start Colt McCoy at quarterback Monday in Mexico City against the San Francisco 49ers, the team announced.Kyler Murray is inactive due to a hamstring injury. It'll be his second straight missed game after he was a limited participant in practice throughout the past week. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was listed as questionable with a hamstring ailment, is active.A knee ailment limited McCoy in practice this past week, but Arizona didn't list him on its final injury report. He passed for 238 yards and one touchdown with a 70.27% completion rate in the Cardinals' 27-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 10.Arizona has posted a 3-1 mark with McCoy listed as a starter over the past two seasons.Arizona (4-6) sits in third place in the NFC West behind the second-place 49ers (5-4) ahead of Monday's matchup.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Fields day-to-day, reportedly has dislocated non-throwing shoulder
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is considered day-to-day after injuring his non-throwing shoulder during Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, head coach Matt Eberflus announced Monday, according to ESPN's Courtney Cronin."We'll see where he is on Wednesday," said Eberflus.Fields, who appeared to be in discomfort during the fourth quarter, is dealing with a shoulder dislocation, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The sophomore has taken significant punishment this season due to an inconsistent offensive line and a heavier workload as a runner. He's been sacked 40 times (eight more than any other quarterback) and has carried the ball 122 times.Fields is amid a breakout year despite the Bears' 3-8 record. The young signal-caller has thrown for 1,642 yards and 13 touchdowns against eight interceptions while adding seven scores on the ground. Moreover, his 834 rushing yards lead all quarterbacks and rank fifth among all players.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Jets' Saleh won't commit to starting Zach Wilson for Week 12
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh isn't committing to Zach Wilson as the starting quarterback for Week 12 against the Chicago Bears."We're keeping everything on the table," Saleh said during his press conference Monday, adding that he needs to review the tape before making a decision at quarterback.Wilson struggled in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots, completing only nine passes for 77 yards. The Jets' offense had just two yards of offense in the second half."When you put up 100 yards of offense ... it's unacceptable," Saleh said, according to Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media. He added that the way the offense played "was not NFL football."Wilson has started 20 games for the Jets since they drafted him second overall in 2021. He's thrown for 1,279 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions this season.Joe Flacco started the first three games of the season for the Jets as Wilson recovered from a preseason knee injury. Flacco threw for 901 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions during that stretch.Mike White is slated as the second quarterback on the Jets' depth chart.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Falcons' Pitts placed on IR, reportedly believed to have torn MCL
Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts is believed to have suffered an MCL tear Sunday, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Pitts was initially thought to have sprained his MCL based on initial tests. However, an MRI on Monday revealed a potential tear. The ailment would require surgery, according to Rapoport, who adds Pitts is seeking a second opinion before making a decision. The 22-year-old will miss at least four games after the Falcons announced Monday that they placed him on injured reserve.Pitts left the Falcons' win over the Chicago Bears after suffering the injury and didn't return.Atlanta will turn to a combination of Anthony Firkser, Parker Hesse, MyCole Pruitt, and Feleipe Franks at tight end in Pitts' absence. Franks is also the team's third quarterback. The 5-6 Falcons are currently half a game back of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the NFC South lead.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Jerry Jones: Cowboys are 'unequivocally' Super Bowl contenders
Jerry Jones is feeling confident following the Dallas Cowboys' 40-3 win over the Minnesota Vikings. When asked Sunday if he believes his team is a Super Bowl contender, the Cowboys owner left no doubt."A resounding yes. Yes. Unequivocally," Jones said, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. "I think we've had adversity. We very easily could have more adversity ... Yes, I think if we use the experience of what we're having in the season, then we're going to be playoff ready. But I sure do think that what I see out here right now is the team like that you could go get a Super Bowl with."The Cowboys improved to 7-3 on the season with Sunday's win and sit two games back of the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles. Next up for Dallas is a Thanksgiving Day matchup against the New York Giants."I, too, thought this game was going to tell us what we are," Jones said. "I don't know that we're that. I really don't. But I know this, that we're not a team that doesn't respond when it's wounded. Everybody thought against the (Green Bay) Packers that we underplayed, and I think you saw what happened when we got out here tonight, and the team all came together. We'll build from this."Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Giants' Robinson out for season with torn ACL
New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL, head coach Brian Daboll announced Monday, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. The rookie second-round pick was injured in Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions, interrupting his best game as a pro (nine catches for 100 yards).Robinson, who dealt with a sprained MCL earlier in the year, finishes his first NFL season with 23 catches for 227 yards and one touchdown. It's another blow to an already depleted pass-catching group. Darius Slayton and Richie James will continue to lead the unit, while the embattled Kenny Golladay could take on an expanded role.Injuries struck New York in Week 11. Cornerback Adoree' Jackson will miss three-to-five weeks with an MCL sprain suffered during a punt return, sources told Jordan Schultz, theScore's NFL insider.Meanwhile, center Jon Feliciano (neck) and cornerback Fabian Moreau (ribs) were among the other players who left the game against the Lions. The 7-3 Giants face a short turnaround ahead of a crucial Thanksgiving matchup against the 7-3 Dallas Cowboys.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. MNF best bets: The 49ers and Cardinals meet up in Mexico City
Each Monday, we'll finish off the week that was in the NFL with a look at value spots in the remaining game - under one condition: You promise not to chase. Whether Sunday provided a boost to the accounts or left a little to be desired, Monday Night Football provides an opportunity to show responsibility in your betting, as there will always be another wild Sunday to get lost in.It's the most anticipated event in Mexico until my wedding there in March, but - unlike with the bride - no one can be totally sure that one of the focal points will be there. After a quick perusal of the standings in the NFC West, this looks like a pivotal battle between the 5-4 49ers and 4-6 Cardinals, but it doesn't feel like an evenly-matched game, does it? The betting market certainly doesn't think so, as San Francisco has toggled between -8 and 9-point favorites throughout the week despite the neutral setting in Mexico City.49ers vs. Cardinals (+9, 43.5)Star quarterback Kyler Murray's status remains in question after he missed last week's win over the Rams with a hamstring injury. What's concerning for Murray is that his injury status does not impact whether there's a point spread available to bet on in this game. That this matchup is on the board suggests that the oddsmakers really don't see much difference between Murray and veteran backup Colt McCoy.The indifference in Arizona's rating, regardless of quarterback, likely has to do with the line sitting between -7 and -10. Murray's presence shouldn't be enough to move it to -7, while -10 would be too high with a fully capable McCoy, so why not put the line in between and let bettors have at it?A slowed Murray, with his one defining characteristic somewhat neutralized, probably isn't any better than McCoy - who arguably played his best game in years last season in San Francisco. The oft-injured 49ers are apparently getting healthier by the day. They have an abundance of defensive depth, although it has been tested, and they are capable of blowing out the Cardinals. But that's always been a troublesome ask for Kyle Shanahan's team as a favorite - something best avoided since he's 8-18-1 in that situation at home, and he's getting no discount in this neutral site game.Pick: Wait and bet Cardinals at +10 if McCoy startsJames Conner under 49.5 rushing yardsThe 49ers' run defense continues to be as good as last year, leading the NFL in opponents' yards per carry with 3.4. Murray actually leads the Cardinals in rushing, with James Conner averaging just 3.8 yards per carry. Conner isn't an explosive runner either, with a season-long rush of 17 yards. That likely won't be topped on Monday night, given San Francisco's full complement of speedy tackle-hungry linebackers.Eno Benjamin got released, Darrel Williams is on injured reserve, and Arizona seems to have little use for Keaontay Ingram, so Conner should get all the volume, having been on the field for 96% of snaps last week, but that's why this yardage total is five yards clear of his 2022 season average. With less than four yards per carry in his time as a Cardinal and probably a rush-negative game script, Conner won't likely get to 50 yards on the ground.George Kittle over 41.5 receiving yardsTight ends against the Cardinals are prop betting and fantasy gold in recent history. Arizona gives up both the most receptions and yards to opposing tight ends at 7.5 catches and 77.8 yards per game, respectively. While George Kittle has taken something of a backseat to the Niners' many weapons, this is a prime spot for Shanahan to set Jimmy Garoppolo up for a big play or two to Kittle.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Report: Beckham to visit Cowboys, Giants after Thanksgiving
Free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. plans to visit the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants after Thanksgiving, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. While Beckham could take other visits, the two NFC East clubs are reportedly the favorites to land the star pass-catcher.The Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Rams - Beckham's last team - have previously been rumored to be potential landing spots. The 30-year-old is reportedly expected to be ready to return by early December after suffering an ACL injury in the Rams' Super Bowl win in February. After being cut by the Cleveland Browns, Beckham produced 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games and 288 yards and two scores in the postseason with L.A.The 9-1 Philadelphia Eagles lead the NFC East, but the 7-3 Giants and the 7-3 Cowboys remain in the hunt for the division title.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Saleh: Jets' 2nd-half offense vs. Pats was 'dogshit'
New York Jets coach Robert Saleh didn't hold back when asked about his offense's second-half performance in Sunday's 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots."It was dogshit," Saleh told reporters postgame. The Jets' only points against New England came off a second-quarter field goal. Following halftime, New York failed to record more than 10 yards on six of its seven drives. Five of those possessions resulted in a three-and-out.Quarterback Zach Wilson struggled to get anything going, completing nine of his 22 passes for just 77 yards. However, Saleh deflected criticism away from his quarterback when asked if Wilson was holding back the offense."I don't know, we couldn't run the ball, either. So, there's a lot of things we need to look at to see if we can find efficiency in the offense," Saleh said. "It's not about pointing fingers at any one individual or one unit or one anything. It's just finding the answers so we can start moving the ball."Wilson added postgame that he didn't feel he let his defense down. The Jets held the Patriots to just three points before New York's special teams surrendered a game-winning 84-yard punt return touchdown in the final 10 seconds.New York and New England both moved to 6-4 following Sunday's result.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Stafford evaluated for concussion, unable to finish loss to Saints
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford missed the remainder of Sunday's 27-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints after leaving the game in the third quarter to be evaluated for a concussion.Stafford spent time in the medical tent before going to the locker room. The Rams didn't officially rule him out for the remainder of the contest but were forced to finish the day with Bryce Perkins under center.Rams head coach Sean McVay said postgame he doesn't know whether Stafford will enter the concussion protocol again, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic."We will make the decision that is best for Matthew," McVay added.Stafford missed last week's loss to the Arizona Cardinals due to a concussion but was cleared to return earlier this week. The 34-year-old, who helped Los Angeles win the Super Bowl in his first year with the team last season, passed for 159 yards and two touchdowns against New Orleans before exiting.Perkins was 5-for-10 passing with 64 yards. Los Angeles Rams star receiver Cooper Kupp is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks after undergoing surgery this past week for a high ankle sprain, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Rams sit at 3-6, and with only eight games remaining, they reportedly will need to turn their season around for Kupp to have a shot at returning this year. NFL Week 11 player props: Cold weather and hot streaks
We thought new Colts head coach Jeff Saturday might have Sam Ehlinger on a short leash last week, but that leash was even shorter than expected. Ehlinger didn't play a snap, keeping us from a freebie winner. Hopefully, a 6-3 record on the remaining plays has given us some momentum. With an eye on Sunday's forecast, here are 10 more bets based largely on playing conditions.Matthew Stafford under 229.5 passing yardsHandicapping the Rams this week is all about assessing their ability without Cooper Kupp. The market seems unlikely to underreact to the absence of the reigning Offensive Player of the Year. But while Stafford's yards total is 15-20 yards lower than in his last two games against comparable defenses, he's 7-2 to the under on previously prescribed numbers with Kupp. We'll bet that both Stafford - and Kupp's absence - are underrated.Davis Mills over 19.5 completionsThis figure represents Mills' average completions in home games this season, but those four data points include a contest against the Eagles in which the Texans found some success running the ball.Mills easily surpassed this number in last week's road clash with the Giants as Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins rejoined Houston's offense. Mills' splits, meanwhile, are better at home than they are on the road. With Cooks and Collins playing together at NRG Stadium for the first time since Week 4, he'll look to exploit a below-average Commanders secondary on a short week.Josh Allen over 276.5 passing yardsAllen made something of a surprise start last week and seemed to escape unscathed. Now he and the Bills get a rare indoor game and a chance to exploit a vulnerable defense. The Browns lost another defensive back when Greg Newsome went down in practice this week; considering Cleveland gave up 285 passing yards to Tua Tagovailoa last week, less depth in the secondary is a problem against a quarterback averaging over 300 yards this season.Hunter Henry over 23.5 receiving yardsThe Patriots' offense seems to work better when the tight end is involved, and Henry's best games have come in three of New England's four outings scoring 26 points or more. Only three teams have allowed more receptions to opposing tight ends than the Jets, so Henry should be a key weapon in the Patriots' game plan.Jonathan Taylor over 85.5 rushing yardsTaylor ran over the Raiders with his highest carry total since Week 1, and that can't be a coincidence with Saturday at the helm. From the Texans to the Commanders to the Colts, the word is out that the Eagles struggle against the run; they know it too, having signed Ndamukong Suh and Linval Joseph this week. Taylor will surpass 25 carriers and flirt with the century mark after the Colts' offensive line earned its best grade of the year last week.Justin Fields' longest rush over 17.5 yards (-130)Sportsbooks are unlikely to shut down because of one player prop, so we'll just keep trying Fields on the run. His total has risen nicely to 69.5, but the Bears quarterback will probably require one of his patented splashy runs to hit that number. In an indoor matchup against the Falcons, a 20-yard takeoff shouldn't even be all that splashy.Baker Mayfield over 0.5 passing touchdowns (-130)This is a truly insulting line with minimal juice. Maybe Mayfield doesn't throw a touchdown pass, but at -130 to do so, we have to back the Panthers' Week 1 starter. For all his struggles this season, he's gone scoreless only once in five starts and threw two touchdowns in a recent relief appearance.Jared Goff under 223.5 passing yardsWind, cold weather, and an opponent that struggles to defend the run should have Lions head coach Dan Campbell salivating over the chance to grind out a game in the trenches. Goff's historical struggles in poor passing conditions should suppress his volume, too, especially since the Giants don't have the offense to build a big lead.Kenny Pickett longest pass completion under 32.5 yardsBoth defenses are top 10 in rush yards per carry, and the Bengals are getting nose tackle DJ Reader back; there shouldn't be many tackle box overloads in this game. A late start should make for particularly chilly conditions in Pittsburgh, so we'll fade hopes for a deep ball from the Steelers' rookie quarterback.Justin Jefferson under 96.5 receiving yardsThis is Jefferson's highest total of the season, with the Vikings star earning six straight overs on his yardage prop and the attention of the football world this week. But the Cowboys will be a tough matchup for Jefferson, partly because their pass rush should make it difficult for Kirk Cousins to find him downfield.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Commanders' Young won't be activated from reserve vs. Texans
Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young won't be activated ahead of Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Commanders were reportedly optimistic earlier in the week about removing Young from the physically unable to perform list. Washington has until Nov. 23 to move Young to the active roster, or he won't be eligible to play this season, per Schefter.Head coach Ron Rivera said Friday that Washington would activate its star pass-rusher ahead of the Week 12 matchup if it didn't do it this week."If we don't activate him tomorrow, (we're) most certainly going to activate him by Tuesday," he said, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.Young has missed the first 10 contests of the 2022 season as he continues to rehab ACL and MCL tears suffered in a game last year. The 2020 Pro Bowl defender returned to practice earlier this month, opening a 21-day practice window for the Commanders to remove him from the PUP list.Young enjoyed a breakout campaign during his 2020 rookie season, racking up 44 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. The former second overall draft selection tallied 15 tackles, four QB hits, and 1.5 sacks in nine games last campaign.Meanwhile, the Commanders placed running back J.D. Titans OC Downing arrested for DUI, speeding after TNF win
Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing was arrested for driving under the influence and speeding following his team's road win Thursday night, the Williamson County Sheriff's office told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped Downing at 3:49 a.m. and took him to Williamson County jail shortly after, a source told Terry McCormick of Titans Insider. The 42-year-old reportedly posted bond at 6:46 a.m.The Titans' offense had one of its best performances of the campaign Thursday as Tennessee beat the Green Bay Packers 27-17 in prime time to move to 7-3."It's something we are going to take very seriously, gather all the information we can, and do our best to move forward," Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said Friday, according to Titan Insider's Terry McCormick. "I don't think discouraged is the word to describe it."The NFL is also reviewing the incident and is in contact with Tennessee."There is a policy that prohibits alcohol on team planes or buses," league spokesman Brian McCarthy told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The league sent a memo reminding teams that alcohol is prohibited in locker rooms, team facilities, and while traveling on club buses or planes and that "significant discipline" would result if the policy is violated.Downing is in his second year as the AFC South club's offensive coordinator after acting as its tight ends coach. Saints' Winston: Not playing 'hurts my soul'
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston didn't think he would lose hold of the starter's job after suffering an injury earlier in the season. But Andy Dalton hasn't relinquished New Orleans' starting role since taking over under center in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, and Saints head coach Dennis Allen has once again tabbed Dalton to start in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams.Winston doesn't agree with that decision."I lost my job due to injury, and the policy has always been you don't lose your job due to injury," he told ESPN's Katherine Terrell. "And that's what happened."Winston said he was under the impression he'd return to the starting role after missing time due to foot and back ailments. But Allen has opted to stick with Dalton."It hurts my soul the way things have turned out to be this year," Winston said. "But it is what it is."New Orleans went 1-2 through the first three games of the season with Winston under center. He struggled to spark the offense, completing 63.5% of his passes for 858 yards and four touchdowns against five interceptions. The Saints haven't faired much better since, entering Week 11 with a 3-7 record while racking up a modest 22.2 points per game.Winston admitted he probably shouldn't have played in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after injuring his back in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons. But he wanted to face the team that drafted him first overall in 2015, especially after tearing his ACL against Tampa Bay last season.Regardless, he insisted he's healthy enough to return to the lineup despite Allen saying he won't be 100% for the rest of the campaign."I'm healing up. I haven't been playing. This is the best healing I can get," Winston said.Despite his discontent, Winston said he's focused on supporting both Dalton and the offense."I think winning makes a lot of things better," he said. "So we need to go out there and start with this week - get a win as a team."Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Stafford clears concussion protocol, on track to start vs. Saints
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has cleared concussion protocol, putting him on track to start Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, the team announced.Stafford missed the Week 10 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals, and head coach Sean McVay said earlier this week that he expected the veteran to clear protocol in time to return Sunday. The 34-year-old fully participated in practice throughout the week and did not receive an injury designation for the meeting against the Saints.John Wolford threw for 212 yards with a touchdown and interception in Stafford's place during the loss to Arizona.Stafford will aim to dig the Rams out of a 3-6 start to the 2022 campaign. The reigning Super Bowl champions have struggled offensively this year, averaging just 16.4 points per game, good for 29th in the NFL.The signal-caller has also endured his share of troubles under center. Stafford has thrown for eight touchdowns to eight interceptions while being sacked 28 times in eight starts.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Quarterback Kyler Murray is expected to be a game-time decision when the Arizona Cardinals play the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City on Monday, according to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss.A hamstring injury kept Murray out of action last week, and he was a limited participant in the week's first practice. The two-time Pro Bowler tested his injury at the start of Friday's session by running the length of the field, reports Weinfuss.Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said that Murray was "progressing" from his injury and "has come a long way."The star passer missed the Cardinals' 27-17 win against the Los Angeles Rams last weekend after also being a game-time decision. Backup Colt McCoy started the contest but was replaced by Trace McSorley after sustaining a knee injury.Murray recently revealed that he initially sustained the injury in the team's Week 8 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.Kingsbury said he's optimistic that at least one of Murray or McCoy will be available for the team's Monday Night Football matchup, according to team reporter Darren Urban.Murray has tallied 2,168 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 66.7% of his passes this season. The Jets have taken money this week, presumably based on the idea that they won the boxscore in the first matchup and they were a roughing-the-passer penalty away from a two-score lead in a low-scoring game. I tend to think the Jets just blew a rare opportunity for a win over their onetime (for one day) head coach Bill Belichick. With both teams off their bye week, I trust the Patriots' staff to do more with the additional preparation time, particularly on offense. They won't need to make many adjustments to torment Zach Wilson, but they've likely focused on scheming open receivers for Mac Jones (whose ankle should be healthier).Saints -3 (-115)How much does Cooper Kupp mean to a point spread? With Matthew Stafford expected to start, the market seems to believe the Saints are -3 at home, compared to the pick'em listed in the lookahead before Kupp was injured. However, between the fact that Kupp has accounted for 34% of the Rams' yardage and the emotional element of seeing the writing on the wall for a lost season, the Rams' rating arguably isn't low enough. The Saints are what we know them to be, but there's a very strong chance the Rams are much worse than the market thinks.Bills -8The Bills might have advocated for this game to be moved into a dome. The irony of them playing in Buffalo is that, stylistically, this team is built to perform better in a controlled environment. Don't believe me? The line was -8 before the venue change, and it's barely moved with the shift indoors. We happily bet the Dolphins against the Browns last week because we didn't share the market's apparent belief that Cleveland's defense could hold up in a potential track meet. It couldn't, and neither could the Browns' offense. This sets up in a similar way. Maybe the Browns can run the ball well enough, but we'd rather side with the high-octane pass attack.Moneyline upset of the weekOur defined parameter for this section is underdogs paying at least +150.Colts +250We need to reframe our perception of the Colts. They were disappointing to start the season because the market believed they were division favorites and dark-horse Super Bowl contenders. Then Sam Ehlinger replaced Matt Ryan and they hired Jeff Saturday, so their rating plummeted. Now that Ryan's back and the coaching hire might not matter much, there has to be some middle ground in their rating - especially since Ryan's now surrounded by a full complement of healthy skill players.Even with all the noise around the team, Indianapolis has a good run defense. Despite playing Derrick Henry (twice), Josh Jacobs, Dameon Pierce, and Travis Etienne (twice), and often in a trailing game state, the Colts have allowed the second-fewest yards per rush. That will come in handy against the Eagles - on a short week off of a loss, Philadelphia might want to rely on its run game.Best total betChiefs / Chargers under 52 pointsTaking the under on a Patrick Mahomes-Justin Herbert matchup may not sound smart, but neither quarterback has access to the explosive talent that they've grown accustomed to. Derwin James can be a problem for Travis Kelce, while Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster are likely unavailable for K.C. Herbert might get Mike Williams and Keenan Allen back, but are we convinced they'll make it through 60 minutes? Both teams know what to expect from the opponent, so Sunday night's score shouldn't be eye-popping.Best 6-point teaserRaiders +8.5 / Bills -2As much as we like the Bills against the spread, the teaser leg should be pure gold. With the market unwilling to give us the full field goal with the Raiders, we'll bump them up over eight points and dare the atrocious Broncos offense to score enough points to cover -8.5.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Schultz: One scout's midseason breakdown of five key quarterbacks
We're over halfway through the season, and the quarterback play league-wide has been surprisingly varied. I caught up with a long-time NFL scout to break down five notable quarterbacks - both good and bad. His insights might surprise you.Russell Wilson"Russell Wilson hasn't played well, but I don't put all of it on him. I don't think he's been healthy. I'd want to see him throwing down the field too, but his shorter stuff isn't there either. He's been throwing to twos and threes most of the year. Losing (Javonte) Williams really hurt - he's a dynamic guy. They need him on third down."(Head coach Nathaniel) Hackett's a nice guy. Players like him. I just don't think he was ready to be a head coach. It's easier to look back, however many months later, but they probably needed to have hired someone with NFL head coaching experience."Daniel Jones"I wasn't his biggest fan at Duke, but I don't know how you watch him now and don't like him. I think, unlike in Denver, coaching has helped him. (Brian) Daboll was a great hire because he was the right hire. His temperament and feel for people (have) made all the difference inside that building."I don't think I realized how good an athlete Jones is back there. I thought he was stiff. He's not as fast as (Justin) Fields, but he can run. He's smart. He's more confident and more aware of holding onto the football this season. They've gotta pay him this offseason."(The Giants declined Jones' fifth-year option, so he's a free agent at the end of the campaign.)Geno Smith"Geno is the surprise. He's what, 32, 33, and he's not just improved, he's like a different player. He's winning games for (Seattle). He's making how many clutch throws?"I don't know what was going on with Wilson those last few years, but this feels like a different vibe. Again, it's the checks he's making before the play. You can't do that unless you're confident, and you're not confident unless you've prepared. Geno's both. It's a fascinating luxury, or dilemma maybe, for Pete (Carroll) and John (Schneider) because they really don't have to go quarterback in the draft. But also, the rest of the team doesn't have many holes. That's the path to them getting better over the next few years with Geno, assuming they give him the extension."(Smith has been playing on one-year contracts since 2017.)Matt Ryan"I'd be surprised if Matt Ryan comes back next year. They owe him a ton of money, so I guess it wouldn't be like a total shock, but I don't know how much is left for him. His arm is shot, he can't move, and they can't block. I like Jeff (Saturday, the new head coach). I don't know if he'll succeed, but I like him personally. It does sound like Matt's gonna be the guy the rest of the season."(Ryan is owed $12 million in cash for 2023 but carries a cap hit of $35.2 million, according to OverTheCap. He'll count for $18 million against the cap if he's cut before June 1.)Patrick Mahomes"Mahomes might be the best I've ever seen. Full package. His arm talent is off the charts. He's very smart, but his feel is a separator. But also, his feet and accuracy are separators. He's the MVP."(With Mecole Hardman going on injured reserve), that (Kadarius) Toney trade was key to me, not only for right now but for the future. We liked him coming out of school. He's such a natural once he touches it - he's elusive for even good tackling corners. Andy (Reid) must have been salivating to get him."Jordan Schultz is theScore's NFL insider and senior NBA reporter. Chiefs place Hardman on IR
The Kansas City Chiefs have placed wide receiver Mecole Hardman on injured reserve due to an abdominal injury, the team announced Thursday.Hardman will miss at least four games after landing on the reserve list. He didn't participate in Wednesday's practice before being placed on IR.The former second-round pick missed Kansas City's Week 10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars due to the injury. Fellow Chiefs wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster entered the concussion protocol following a hard hit in that contest.Kadarius Toney, whom the Chiefs acquired before the trade deadline, could continue to see an expanded role with Hardman out. Toney recorded four receptions for 57 yards and one touchdown against the Jaguars.Hardman, 24, ranks fourth on the team with 297 receiving yards. He has six touchdowns this season, including two on the ground.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Eagles' Slay: 'We're going for the Super Bowl'
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay said he's thrilled with the moves Howie Roseman made this week after the general manager added defensive tackles Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh."We're not here to just be participants," Slay said, according to Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer. "We're going for the Super Bowl. Howie wants to see the confetti again."Opponents have gashed the Eagles on the ground lately, with Philadelphia allowing 154 rushing yards per game over the last three outings. Adding Joseph and Suh should help the team address the problem."He's got a lot left in the tank," Slay said about Suh. "He can play as long as he wants to. He gets to join a winning team; keep building his legacy."Roseman won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2017 but has struggled to keep the magic from that season alive. Philadelphia earned a combined record of 31-33-1 from 2018-21.The 47-year-old general manager also stayed busy in the offseason, adding star players like wide receiver A.J. Brown, defensive end Haason Reddick, and cornerback James Bradberry. Roseman appeared to prioritize upgrading the Eagles' roster after losing 31-15 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in last season's wild-card round.Philadelphia is off to a great start this campaign, sitting atop the NFC at 8-1. Bills-Browns moved to Detroit due to snowstorm
The Buffalo Bills announced Thursday that their matchup against the Cleveland Browns is being moved to Ford Field in Detroit due to an incoming lake-effect snowstorm set to hit Buffalo.Kickoff for the Week 11 contest will be Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.The NFL said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution for public safety.A lake-effect storm warning lasting from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon was issued by the National Weather Service. The forecast is calling for 2-4 feet of snow and wind gusts up to 35 mph.The relocation means the Bills will play two consecutive games at Ford Field, as they're scheduled for a road contest against the Detroit Lions in Week 12.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Report: Eagles sign Ndamukong Suh to 1-year deal
The Philadelphia Eagles aren't done adding to their defensive line.Philly has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Eagles' defense has struggled against the run in 2022, allowing 4.7 yards per rushing attempt, which ranks 25th in the NFL. Philadelphia also recently lost first-round rookie defensive lineman Jordan Davis and tackle Marlon Tuipulotu to injuries. Davis was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 2 with an ankle issue, while Tuipulotu landed on IR on Tuesday due to a knee ailment.Philly also signed former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Linval Joseph on Wednesday.Suh, a five-time Pro Bowler, hasn't played this season after spending the previous three campaigns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 35-year-old racked up 112 tackles and 14.5 sacks through 49 regular-season games with Tampa Bay while helping the team win a Super Bowl. The 8-1 Eagles, who visit the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, suffered their first loss of the year against the Washington Commanders in Week 10. Philly allowed 152 yards on the ground in the game.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Mahomes: Herbert makes 'special' throws no other QB can
Patrick Mahomes often makes the seemingly impossible happen on a football field, but the Kansas City Chiefs star believes Justin Herbert's talent stands alone amongst quarterbacks."He throws some passes that I don't think anyone can throw in this league, and that includes myself," Mahomes said Wednesday ahead of a Sunday night matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons."He has a cannon for an arm, you watch - I watch on film every week because we play similar opponents - there's some throws that you just kind of shake your head because they are just that special."Widely tipped to be an MVP candidate in 2022, Herbert has produced an up-and-down campaign amid a host of injuries to the Chargers' offense. After throwing six touchdowns to just one interception in his first two games, the 24-year-old has been limited to only seven passing scores while tossing four interceptions over his last six appearances. He's thrown a pick in each of his previous four games. But Herbert could find his form down the stretch as the 5-4 Chargers target a playoff berth, with star wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams seemingly nearing their return.Mahomes, meanwhile, remains one of the favorites to win the MVP award for a second time. The Chiefs standout leads the NFL with 2,936 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns. He's also second in QBR and fourth in passer rating.Herbert produced the most passing yards (9,350) through the first two seasons of a career in NFL history. He also set franchise single-season records for passing touchdowns (38) and yards (5,014) in 2021.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. NFL Week 11 round-robin underdog moneyline parlay
Single eyebrows were collectively raised when the Chargers took a 10-0 lead over the 49ers on Sunday night. L.A.'s decrepit roster couldn't hang on for victory to connect four parts of our bet, so we settled for three out of five and a modest return for the fourth time this season - thanks to the Vikings' and Packers' dramatic comebacks. Of course, the round-robin underdog moneyline parlay is just one bet, and betting each team against the spread individually went 4-1 for a 32-17-2 record this season. How it worksWe parlay five underdogs we like against the spread in 10 different three-team parlays. Using every combination of a three-team parlay is called a round robin. We'll use a total of 1.1 units to make 11 different bets: 10 three-team parlays and one five-team parlay, each for .1 units. You'll likely double your money if three teams pull off the upset. If four teams win, you're connecting on four separate parlays and will be very pleased with the return. If all five teams win, you'll be diving into a silo of gold doubloons like a young Scrooge McDuck.Who to playBears +140Justin Fields on a fast track feels fun, doesn't it? The line has dropped from a lookahead of +4 down to +3, but there's still value left on the Bears. Their offense has come alive, averaging over 30 points in their last four games. Those opponents haven't been defensive pushovers, either, with the Patriots and Cowboys on that list. Meanwhile, the Falcons' offense has taken a small downturn. Both teams should have success against two of the worst defenses in the league, but while the Falcons are used to playing on the turf in the dome, the Bears' most impressive offensive showing this year was in similar conditions in Dallas. Fundamentally, these two teams are essentially equal, and taking a decent plus price on the Bears is worth making them a staple of this bet.Texans +140The Texans had every opportunity to not just cover but win the game in New York on Sunday, averaging 6.4 yards per play to the Giants' 5.5. The latter number was inflated by a missed open field tackle by rookie Jalen Pitre on Darius Slayton that turned what should have been a fourth-down punt into a 54-yard touchdown. Take those yards and points off the board, and you've got an entirely different statistical profile and perception of a game that not a lot of people were locked in on.As for the Commanders, we tip our cap for one of the biggest upsets of the year. But find me a tougher spot to get up for - six days after that win over the Eagles - than a non-conference road game in Houston. Monday's result notwithstanding, the Commanders are still rated as a below-average football team, which is still good enough to be favored here but bad enough to drop a game to a Texans team that's playing better than most think.Colts +250Here's where we get a little loose. Unsurprisingly, the Colts are a better football team with a borderline future Hall-of-Fame quarterback operating an offense that, with Jeff Saturday heading on-field operations, should constantly hand the ball to their All-Pro tailback, who finally seems healthy. Jonathan Taylor can follow the same route the Commanders took when they handed the ball off 44 times against a defense without run-stopping defensive tackle Jordan Davis. With the Eagles missing Dallas Goedert, potentially having a compromised A.J. Brown, and facing the second-best run defense in the league, they could get surprised again.Steelers +170Surprise, surprise! Getting the reigning Defensive Player of the Year back means something to the Steelers' overall rating. With T.J. Watt's return, any spread over a field goal is too much in a matchup that was lined at Bengals -6.5 in Cincinnati in Week 1. Flipping three points on home-field advantage (1.5 per side), the line would be Cincinnati -3.5. Now Joe Burrow is without Ja'Marr Chase, which has to mean something. At a time in the season where all you can ask for is a few percentage points of win probability, there's value in the Steelers to beat the Bengals again.Chargers +190The spread opened at Chiefs -7, which was objectively too high. I froze and missed out on Chargers +7 because - as was depicted repeatedly on Sunday night - the injuries are out of control in Los Angeles. That didn't stop some intrepid bettors Wednesday, as money came in on the Bolts to bring the line down under a touchdown. This may be an indication of a more optimistic Chargers injury report, with a potential return of Keenan Allen and/or Mike Williams to help Justin Herbert. L.A. will have Derwin James - always a thorn in the side of Travis Kelce - which could keep this game close, making the Chargers' moneyline playable around +200 as a fraction of this bet. Here's how the odds look this week:PARLAYODDS (Approx.)CHI+IND+HOU+2000CHI+IND+PIT+2300CHI+IND+LAC+2700CHI+HOU+PIT+1500CHI+HOU+LAC+1800CHI+PIT+LAC+2000IND+HOU+PIT+2200IND+HOU+LAC+2600IND+PIT+LAC+3000HOU+PIT+LAC+2000CHI+IND+HOU+PIT+LAC+18000Who are your five underdogs for a football betting lottery ticket?Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Chiefs' Kelce: 'I don't get' why Giants traded Toney
It didn't take Kadarius Toney long to make an impact on the Kansas City Chiefs, gaining 90 scrimmage yards and one touchdown on just six touches against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10 in his second game with the club since joining the team.Though Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce still can't believe the New York Giants dealt Toney, he's happy the second-year receiver landed at Arrowhead."I don't know how he got out of that building," Kelce said on the "New Heights" podcast," according to Brian Wacker of the New York Post. "I don't get it one bit."He added, "I don't even want to know what happened over there. I am just extremely happy that (Chiefs general manager) Brett Veach found a way yet again to get an unbelievably talented player in this building."The Giants drafted Toney in the first round in 2021, though that was under former general manager Dave Gettleman's regime. The Florida product showed flashes as a rookie but missed seven games with an injury, finishing the year with 39 catches for 420 yards and no touchdowns.Toney barely played when healthy earlier this season under New York's new coaching staff and eventually was sent to Kansas City in exchange for a compensatory third-round pick and a sixth-round selection."When you get a trade like that, you think there's something you have to weigh out," Kelce said. "Ever since he's been in the building, it's 'man, this dude's smart, man, this dude's crazy athletic, man, this guy has a lot of confidence.'"Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs already boasted one of the NFL's top offenses before Toney's arrival, rostering the likes of Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster, who joined Kansas City this past offseason after the club traded receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Murray: I've been dealing with hamstring issue since Week 8
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray said he's been dealing with a hamstring injury since the 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.Murray added that he tweaked the injury again in the following week's 31-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks."Once it happened the next week, I kind of knew it was probably best for me to let it rest," Murray said Wednesday. "Once it happens, it's unfortunate, but it happens. It's a part of the game. We all go through it. You never want it to be yourself, but you try to get back as quick as possible."The 25-year-old wasn't listed on the team's injury report ahead of Week 9. The NFL could levy fines, suspensions, and draft pick forfeiture if it chooses to penalize the Cardinals for violating league rules regarding injury disclosure.Murray said his hamstring feels "a lot better," but he's unsure if he'll be ready to suit up Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City. The injury forced Murray to miss the team's Week 10 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Colt McCoy, who started in his place, is now also dealing with a knee injury. Trace McSorley is the only other quarterback on the roster.Murray said he needs to be able to sprint to feel good enough to go."It's just one of those things of trial and error. … Every athlete (must) listen to (their) body," Murray said. "How's your body feeling? What's it telling you?"Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.
Carr, Adams back McDaniels: 'It's not built in just 1 day'
Las Vegas Raiders stars Derek Carr and Davante Adams were pleased that team owner Mark Davis publicly came out in defense of head coach Josh McDaniels."I think what our owner said is best: It’s not built in just one day. Like, it really isn’t," Carr said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "What his belief is and what Josh’s belief is, and (general manager Dave Ziegler's) belief is, there’s no denying their success. There’s no denying what they’ve been able to do."Davis vouched for McDaniels earlier this week, stating that the coach is doing a "fantastic job" in his first year in Las Vegas despite the team owning a 2-7 record."I’m so happy to hear that Mr. Davis feels that way," the quarterback told reporters. I’m so happy that he loves Josh, he loves Dave, he believes in them. It kind of just gave us a breath like, 'Yes. Let’s just get better. Let’s work on being a better football team.'"Adams, who is also in his first year with the Raiders, feels at ease with the patient approach taken by Las Vegas' front office. He referenced the difficulties in changing the culture of a franchise that hasn't won a playoff game since the 2002 season."There's no magic coach that's going to come in and change that," Adams said. "And I think that Josh is doing a great job, and he does deserve that, in my mind."We can all be better in certain instances, but some of the greatest coaches that this league has seen had some tough times, and I’m sure they didn’t all come out the block sprinting like Usain Bolt, starting their career off or starting with a new organization."The wideout criticized the team following the club's loss to the Indianapolis Colts, saying postgame that it felt like there were not enough players who have "fully bought in."The Raiders are currently riding a three-game losing streak and sit in the basement of the AFC West.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc.
