The Las Vegas Raiders are placing tight end Darren Waller and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow on injured reserve, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Waller recently aggravated a hamstring injury, Schefter adds. He's been dealing with the ailment for most of the season. Renfrow, meanwhile, is reportedly nursing an oblique injury.Losing Waller and Renfrow for multiple weeks is a big blow to the Raiders, who dropped to 2-6 after blowing a 17-point lead in their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9. Players placed on injured reserve must remain sidelined for at least four weeks.Renfrow, who also missed time earlier this season after entering the concussion protocol, has recorded 192 yards on 21 receptions in 2022.It's been a frustrating 2022 campaign for the 30-year-old Waller, who's appeared in only five games. He's caught 16 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown. A Pro Bowler in 2019, he missed six games due to injury last year. With Waller sidelined, Foster Moreau could get a bigger workload at tight end. Moreau has recorded 17 receptions for 175 yards and no touchdowns this season while being targeted 27 times, the most among Las Vegas tight ends. The team also rosters Jesper Horsted. The Raiders' wide receiver depth chart features Davante Adams and Mack Hollins, among others.Las Vegas hosts the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Week 9's teaser legs were going along nicely, undefeated on Sunday, until the Saints got physically overwhelmed by the Ravens in the Superdome on Monday night in a spot where they've usually played with a lot more energy. This week, New Orleans goes from just having to stay competitive at home to a team we're supposed to worry about winning by margin on the road - a strange reversal in Pittsburgh. With three different games (Vikings-Commanders, Chargers-Falcons, Rams-Buccaneers) pushing a point spread of -3 last week, it goes to show: If the spread of any game lined at a field goal tightens toward a pick'em, a tease up to +8.5 is probably in order. Some games don't have a teaser-worthy point spread. For example, the Chiefs are 9.5-point favorites at home to the Jaguars. Teasing the Chiefs would capture some key numbers, but even if Kansas City wins by a field goal - as it did against the Titans - that's a loss for us. The alternative point spread of Chiefs -3.5 is priced at -240, which tells you that a teaser leg of -270 isn't valuable at all.Teasing Jacksonville up to +16.5 seems appealing, but if you're worried about the Jaguars losing by 10-14 points, you have to be worried about them losing by 17, and getting +10 to +16 over a big sample size isn't worth the price hike to -270.Speaking of alternative spreads, this week's Thursday Night Football game has found its way into teaser territory. The Panthers moved from a field-goal underdog to +2.5 in a rematch with the Falcons that went to overtime just two weeks ago. Let's use a potentially tight divisional game with a low total as an example of how teasing Carolina is valuable.ALT. SPREADODDSPanthers +3.5-150Panthers +4.5-175Panthers +5.5-185Panthers +6.5-225Panthers +7.5-280Panthers +8.5-310Notice the pricing significantly jumps once you move across the key number of +7, showing the importance of capturing that number in NFL betting. More importantly, the Panthers' alternative spread (+8.5) is priced at -310, which is obviously much higher than getting them at +8.5 with a teaser leg at -270.To get a good deal on the Panthers (+8.5), we must pair them with another bet and win both to cash the ticket. Fortunately, we can choose that other leg from our weekly "teaser basket" using what we know about key numbers.Teaser basketLet's look at the mathematically optimal plays available for Week 10:TEAMSPREADTEASER LEGPanthers+2.5+8.5Seahawks+2.5+8.5Steelers+2+8Texans+5+11Broncos+2.5+8.549ers-7-1Eagles-11-5The first thing you'll notice is that we've expanded the parameters of the teaser basket to include more than just legs that capture -3 through -7. Now that we're into Week 10, we can be reasonably confident that we have a solid understanding of teams' capabilities. There are two games where a firm handle on the teams' rating might lead to an unorthodox teaser leg. The first occurs in Texans-Giants, where New York opened as a 7-point favorite. The betting market decided that it was a lot to ask of the Giants to go from consistently being lined as underdogs to winning by more than a converted touchdown, then an unconverted touchdown, and finally less than a touchdown. Who are we to argue? Taking the Texans up to +11 asks even more of the Giants. The other unconventional teaser leg comes from Monday night's game in Philadelphia. The Commanders' last five games finished within six points of the spread, so the market's rating of them in the bottom third of the league has held up. Meanwhile, the Eagles are 8-0 with six wins coming by eight points or more and a plus-56 point differential in their four home games. Philadelphia already won 24-8 in Washington. An 11-point spread leaves the Eagles vulnerable to a backdoor cover with a meaningless touchdown in a 17-point game, but taking them down to -5 is much more reasonable, leaving open the backup plan of a late touchdown to cover in a surprisingly close game.Of the other five options in the basket, just the 49ers are in the "tease-down" category - a better value at -1 (-270) than on the moneyline at -320 - if you believe they'll at least win on Sunday Night Football. The four "tease-up" legs are daring the Buccaneers, Falcons, Saints, and Titans to win by two scores, and those four teams have struggled to separate from opponents.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Last season, we rocked and rolled our way to the Super Bowl with music-themed Thursday Night Football player props, joyfully celebrating the start of a new NFL week. This year, we'll use an episode from "Must See TV" cornerstone "Seinfeld" each week to remind us that betting is supposed to be fun, even when an absurd series of events leads to a losing bet."You think this is all a big joke, don't ya? ... Maybe that's how you get your kicks, you and your good-time buddies. Well, I gotta flash for you, Joy Boy: Party time is over." - Library cop Joe Bookman investigating Jerry for a book 20 years overdue. After a six-game cover streak to start the season, the party's been over for Falcons bettors for three straight weeks. Panthers bettors were also hit with a rude awakening last Sunday. In Season 3, Episode 5 of "Seinfeld," a library cop chases a bewildered Jerry down for two decade's worth of overdue library fees. The confusion stems from mistaking two similar books. If the Panthers and Falcons' Week 8 instant classic was "Tropic of Cancer," hopefully Thursday night's rematch will follow the same indistinguishable plotlines like the follow-up story, "Tropic of Capricorn."'The Library'No matter who the quarterback is, our initial reaction to the Panthers' passing game is: "Can't stand ya." Like George's gym teacher/bully turned homeless man at the library, there's plenty to dislike. Two weeks ago, DJ Moore was lined at 60.5 receiving yards before facing the Falcons' shorthanded secondary. Even before he caught the miracle 62-yard touchdown that sent the game to overtime, he was already at 90 yards.PJ Walker looked toward Moore for double-digit targets against both the Buccaneers and the Falcons. While last Sunday's contest against the Bengals got away from the Panthers almost immediately, they should get back to forcing looks to Moore with a game script that should be pretty level. Hopefully, that doesn't leave us feeling worse than Costanza after an atomic wedgie.Pick: DJ Moore over 58.5 receiving yardsA TD that's definitely going to happenOf course George had "Tropic of Cancer!" Sometimes the most obvious answer is the right answer. There are a plethora of options for rushing touchdowns on both sides, but when Cordarrelle Patterson plays, he gets into the end zone. The Falcons' run-constant approach feels like a bigger scam than the Dewey Decimal System, but whether it's Kramer conversing with Marion the librarian or bettors looking for a touchdown scorer, we're willing to ignore our biases and lean into the numbers."The Library" is worth watching just for Philip Baker Hall's scene-stealing monologues, just as this game is worth watching for Patterson's appearances. Before he got hurt, Patterson got the ball 10 times in the red zone in the first four games of the season. He only played 39% of the snaps in his return last Sunday but had a season-high four red-zone looks. This shows that the Falcons are managing Patterson's workload with the intention of making him available in scoring opportunities. He has touchdowns in four of five games played this season, making this bet as appealing as Sherry Becker's orange dress.Pick: Cordarrelle Patterson anytime touchdown (+100)A TD that probably won't happen ... but maybe it does"It reminds me of this pathetic friend that everybody had when they were a little kid who would let you borrow any of his stuff if you would just be his friend. That's what the library is: A government-funded pathetic friend."The only bet we didn't win last week was our long-shot touchdown, as Boston Scott would skip onto the field only to be used as a decoy at the goal line. That's no different than the ventriloquist dummy Jerry talks about to open "The Library." Like friends, not all snaps are created equal.Shi Smith is a second-year receiver who had a season-high 80% snap share last Sunday. That was partly due to the need for three-receiver sets in a futile effort to come from behind, but with the Falcons' secondary so thin, the Panthers should rely on that personnel this week. With a need to get a look at younger players, the speedy Smith might have a play or two designed for him to beat Atlanta deep. A connection will have us tearing up like Kramer reading Marion's poetry - even if Mr. Lippman doesn't like it.Pick: Shi Smith anytime touchdown (+550)How to bet: The first two bets should be single-unit wagers to win a unit on minus prices and more than a unit on a plus-money bet. The last wager should be smaller, trying to win back your standard unit size.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. If there’s a bad beat to be had, Matt will find it. Interim coach Jeff Saturday believes in his ability to lead the Indianapolis Colts despite all the concerns about his lack of experience."Everybody talks about my (inexperience)," Saturday said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder. "I'm completely comfortable in who I am as a man. I know I can lead men. I know the game of football and I'm passionate about it."He added: "I spent 14 years in a locker room. I went to the playoffs 12 times. I got five dudes in the Hall of Fame that played with (me). You don't think I've seen greatness? You don't think I've seen how people prepare, how they coach, how they (manage), how they work?"Saturday, who spent 13 seasons playing in Indianapolis, was named the team's interim coach Monday after Frank Reich was fired. The move drew heavy scrutiny because Saturday's never coached at the NFL or college level."Here's the deal, man," Saturday said. "None of us are promised a good job. I may be terrible at this and, after eight games, I'll say, 'God bless you. I'm no good.' I may be really good at it. I've got no idea, but I dang sure ain't going to back down."Asked why he took the job, Saturday responded, "Because I care." He detailed his meeting with the Colts' roster and said he understood that players would find the switch challenging due to their relationships with Reich."I understand from (their) perspective. I've sat in that seat. They love Frank, man. That's their coach. They played for this dude. So, I don't minimize that at all," Saturday said. The Colts are riding a three-game losing streak and head into Week 10 with a 3-5-1 record. The Green Bay Packers landed former Las Vegas Raiders safety Johnathan Abram off waivers, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.A former first-round pick in 2019, the Raiders released Abram Tuesday after three-plus seasons. Las Vegas reportedly tried to trade the safety before the trade deadline but was unable to find a suitor.Abram is known for being a hard hitter but has struggled in coverage. He's appeared in eight games this season with six starts and has recorded 48 tackles with no interceptions. The 26-year-old put up a career-high 116 tackles in 2021.In Green Bay, Abram will reunite with special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, who spent 2018-2021 with the Raiders. The Packers have struggled to a 3-6 mark in 2022 while also allowing an average of 20.9 points per game, good for 15th in the NFL.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is dealing with a right elbow sprain, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.Allen's status for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings is "up in the air," according to Rapoport, who adds the star signal-caller could potentially play through the ailment.Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed Allen's injury Wednesday, though he didn't confirm the report."He's day-to-day. The next question is going to be: Will he play? We'll see," said McDermott, who added that Allen won't practice Wednesday, according to Mike Giardi of NFL Network."Not going into the medical report. Not going to answer any more questions about Josh," McDermott said. "We will see how he does. We'll use common sense."Allen sustained the injury late in Sunday's loss to the New York Jets while attempting a pass. He was reportedly evaluated for an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament and related nerves in his throwing elbow after the contest. The 26-year-old said postgame that he was experiencing elbow pain but wasn't overly concerned about it.Allen is considered an MVP front-runner through the first half of the 2022 season after passing for 2,403 yards and 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions through eight games. He's added 392 yards and four scores on the ground while helping Buffalo post a 6-2 record.Veteran quarterback Case Keenum would start for the Bills if Allen is unable to play in Week 10.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Enough is enough. After another huge upset in Week 9 - the Jets knocking off the Bills - we're deploying the "scared money don't make money" tactic going forward. Given the round-robin underdog moneyline parlay (RR MLP) is just one single bet - broken up into 11 pieces - there's no reason why we shouldn't be willing to fire on big home underdogs like the Jets. While we only saw one of our five underdogs win last week, what's far more irritating than the Bears losing a close one, or the Panthers losing big, is when an opportunity is missed on a big upset - or even a close call like the Titans game. How it worksWe parlay five underdogs we like against the spread in 10 different three-team parlays. Using every combination of a three-team parlay is called a round robin. We'll use a total of 1.1 units to make 11 different bets: 10 three-team parlays and one five-team parlay, each for .1 units. You'll likely double your money if three teams pull off the upset. If four teams win, you're connecting on four separate parlays and will be very pleased with the return. If all five teams win, as they did for us in Week 1 last season, you'll be diving into a silo of gold doubloons like a young Scrooge McDuck.Who to playPanthers +135We're getting the RR MLP out on the streets early because we're back on a Thursday nighter with hopes of setting up Sunday. Had the Panthers-Falcons game from two weeks ago been a prime-time game, it would have been all-time memorable. Atlanta closed as a four-point home favorite that Sunday afternoon and didn't cover a true toss-up game. What's changed since then? The Panthers were blown out in Cincinnati - something that recently happened to the Falcons as well. Atlanta pushed a +3 point spread with the Chargers, which suggests the market has a pretty good handle on their rating. The X-factor is the Panthers, who seem to have a wide range of performances. We're betting on the version that beat the Bucs and should have beaten these same Falcons, with the understanding that the version that got crushed in Cincinnati could show up too ... but so could that version of Atlanta.Vikings +190We're trending toward news of Josh Allen being out of, at least, Sunday's game. The point spread has drifted down through a full touchdown, and the moneyline has come with it. If Allen is announced out, where does Buffalo's rating go? The market has them rated in the mid-80s out of 100 with a healthy Allen. With Case Keenum under center, who are the Bills? Are they still better than the Eagles and Chiefs? What about the 49ers, Cowboys, or Ravens? What about the Vikings? If the Keenum-led Bills have a rating similar to Minnesota then they're still the favorite Sunday, but not to the level they are right now. Even if Allen plays, with a sore elbow, I'd still take a flyer on the Vikings who have found ways to win this season.Texans +230The Giants are off their bye week, but a vacation week cost them some depth in their secondary, as Xavier McKinney injured his hand in an ATV accident. Meanwhile, the Texans have had a fair amount of rest after showing well against the undefeated Eagles last Thursday. Dameon Pierce can take advantage of the Giants' run defense, which has allowed 5.5 yards per carry (second-worst in the NFL). His hard running means things should open up for Davis Mills against a thin secondary. The Giants will be able to do the same things against the Texans, but that's largely the point. This is a more even matchup than most are willing to admit, and a +230 moneyline price is worth including here.Packers +190How are the Packers five-point underdogs at home to the Cowboys? A small increase to Dallas' rating off of its bye is fine. A downgrade to the Packers with the season-ending injury to Rashan Gary is definitely in order. However, Green Bay closed as a four-point favorite at Detroit last week and spent much of the game driving into the red zone. The Packers often flunked the test at the goal line, but that's hard to predict week-to-week. This point spread suggests a rating plummet for the Packers, and while that might make sense to us, moves this drastic tend to create value.Chargers +260Conceptually, coming off a bye week, the 49ers should be getting healthier and thus scarier for the rest of the NFL. However, installing them as seven-point favorites is excessive. Jimmy Garoppolo is still capable of troublesome ball security, and half of their wins have come against the historically plus-matchup over the Rams. Justin Herbert as a big underdog is far more appealing than asking the Chargers to cover a number this size against anyone. Here's how the odds look this week.PARLAYODDS (Approx.)CAR+HOU+MIN+2200CAR+HOU+GB+2200CAR+HOU+LAC+2600CAR+MIN+GB+1900CAR+MIN+LAC+2300CAR+GB+LAC+2300HOU+MIN+GB+2700HOU+MIN+LAC+3300HOU+GB+LAC+3200MIN+GB+LAC+2900CAR+HOU+MIN+GB+LAC+23000Who are your five underdogs for a football betting lottery ticket?Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. At the halfway point of the 2022 campaign, theScore's NFL editors join forces to assemble our midseason All-Pro roster.* = unanimous selectionQuarterbackPatrick Mahomes, ChiefsThe NFL is accustomed to Mahomes' brilliance, but that doesn't make what he's doing in 2022 any less special. The four-time Pro Bowler is having one of his best seasons under center, and he's doing it without longtime top receiving mate Tyreek Hill. While Josh Allen garnered a few votes in our selection process, Mahomes' work with a new receiving corps gave him the edge. After all, the Chiefs passer has thrown for a league-leading 21 touchdowns and holds one of the top passer ratings at 109.5.Running back Courtney Culbreath / Getty Images Sport / GettySaquon Barkley, GiantsFollowing two maligned seasons, Barkley is once again proving why he was so highly regarded coming out of Penn State in 2018. The former No. 2 pick has cruised to 968 scrimmage yards to go along with five touchdowns for the ascending Giants, who've received minimal production from everyone else on offense. Barkley, though, is picking up the slack, recording nearly 70% of his 779 rushing yards after contact. Whether he's taking flight to punctuate a win over the Ravens or cooking the Cowboys on a dazzling 36-yard TD run, Barkley's dynamic play has elevated the Giants into contention.Wide receiverTyreek Hill, Dolphins

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was candid when addressing the belief that the team will tank for the remainder of the season."It’s the most absurd thing in the world that we would be tanking games," Irsay said to Fox 59's Mike Chappell. "You think we’re going to tank games? That’s (BS)."The Colts have made numerous changes to their staff and roster amid a 3-5-1 start to the 2022 season, with the biggest being the decision to make Jeff Saturday the interim head coach after firing Frank Reich. The franchise also terminated offensive coordinator Marcus Brady and benched quarterback Matt Ryan for second-year pro Sam Ehlinger.Irsay made the shocking choice to turn to Saturday, who has no NFL or college coaching experience, to command the Colts for the final eight games of the season. He defended the hire Monday night, telling reporters he was glad the former Indianapolis center has no experience and that Saturday is "fully capable" of leading the team. The Colts owner also refuted the notion that the team reduced Ryan to a bench role for any injury guarantees in his contract, adding that he or even backup Nick Foles could feature down the stretch, but the decision would ultimately be Saturday's."Whatever Jeff decides, that’s the bottom line," Irsay told Chappell. "It’s all about who can help us win going forward. We went with Sam, and we’re going with Sam. If there’s a notion for Jeff to make a change, that’s Jeff’s prerogative."Indianapolis reportedly will let pass game specialist/assistant quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier call plays for Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Indianapolis Colts fired Frank Reich from his first head coaching job on Monday after posting a 40-33-1 record over four-and-a-half seasons.Reich emphasized Tuesday that he would one day like to return to the sidelines."I think you keep all your options open," Reich told Mike Chappell of Fox 59. "Obviously, my desire is to be a head coach. I love the game. I love everything about the game, so you keep all of your options open."The Colts fell 26-3 to the New England Patriots on Sunday, marking their third straight loss and dropping their record to 3-5-1. They also failed to eclipse 17 points in each game."I don't know what to say about that," Reich told Chappell when asked if he saw the firing coming. "I felt certain things, but I try to have blinders on and just go get prepared and go try to win the next game."Colts owner Jim Irsay called Reich at around 10:45 a.m. to tell him the team was letting him go since the executive wasn't available for a face-to-face, Chappell added."I've seen things go from bad to worse, and I thought it was time and it was necessary to make the change," Irsay said about moving on from Reich.Indianapolis named Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach on Monday. Saturday has no NFL head coaching experience."There's disappointment and hurt," Reich said, according to Chappell. "It hurts. It hurts to have it happen in the middle of the season."But I understand the business side of things. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mr. Irsay, and I've come to trust his instincts and his knowledge of the game. I just know he's doing what he thinks is best for the team."Reich was hired in 2018 after spending two seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator. If he goes unclaimed, he would then become an unrestricted free agent. The Raiders reportedly attempted to shop Abram prior to the league's Nov. 1 trade deadline but were unable to find a suitable offer.Las Vegas opted to decline the fifth-year options of Abram and fellow 2019 first-round selections Josh Jacobs and Clelin Ferrell this past offseason. The Mississippi State product was due to make $2 million in base salary this season, according to Over the Cap.Abram's rookie campaign in 2019 was mostly wiped out after he sustained an injury to his rotator cuff and labrum in the Raiders' season opener. He bounced back in 2020, starting 13 games. He posted career highs last season with 116 tackles and five tackles for loss.Abram has tallied 48 tackles and one pass breakup through eight games in 2022.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New England Patriots' offensive play calls may have become too predictable.Several members of New England's offense said that Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard was calling out plays before the snap in Sunday's 26-3 win.Patriots head coach Bill Belichick agreed Tuesday when asked whether his team appeared to be tipping plays."I thought that there were two or three plays for sure that Leonard really got a big jump on and stopped us," Belichick said, according to Andrew Callahan of The Boston Herald.Belichick noted that New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley also anticipated some plays the previous week."(Mosley) got a couple of those plays a couple of weeks ago in the Jets game. ... It almost looked like he heard the play in the huddle," he said. "He was on it so fast, and Leonard had a couple like that too."So whether that was something we were giving away or just something that he anticipated based on whatever the keys were that he might've picked up, we certainly want to try to prevent that."Belichick added, "That's what good defensive players do. They anticipate things."Mosley piled up 13 tackles, including one tackle for loss, when the teams met in Week 8, with the Pats averaging 3.7 yards per carry against the Jets. In Week 9, the Colts held New England's offense to 203 total yards. Indianapolis was able to limit the Patriots' rushing attack to 70 yards, with Leonard recording five tackles. However, the Patriots' defense racked up nine sacks, eight tackles for loss, and a pick-6 against the Colts to secure New England's fifth win of the season.Belichick also pointed out that in some situations, his team has been able to take advantage of players who assume they know the play before the snap. The Patriots' offense has struggled through the first nine weeks of the season, averaging 319.9 yards per game (26th in the NFL) and 22.6 points per game. Quarterback Mac Jones has been unable to find time in the pocket, with the Patriots surrendering 22 sacks.Jones is optimistic that the Patriots can become more consistent following their bye week. "We're playing good at spots, but we need to continue to go up here and stop riding the wave," he said Sunday, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The number you got in Week 9 really mattered. If you panic bet the Vikings -3.5, Buccaneers -3, and Chargers -3 early in the week, you lost one and pushed two. If you circled those favorites, bided your time, and entered the market at the best price available, you could've pushed with Minnesota while snaring -2.5 with Tampa and Los Angeles. That's a difference between -1.1 units and +1.9 units on your ledger - a three-unit swing. Those lines and their movement are a function of changes in oddsmakers' ratings of each team based on circumstances such as injuries. When those factors change, a line goes on or off -3, and a bet can go from a winner to a push, or a push to a loss. Both add up over the season and factor into your bottom line. How ratings workWe look at the betting market's assessment of each team based on the closing lines from the previous week's games and then we estimate what each club is capable of going forward. The "rating" column is an educated guess at the oddsmakers' rating to create a point spread before their most recent game. The number itself represents the percentage chance that a team beats an average opponent on a neutral field. The range column is my evaluation of each team's potential after seeing them play this season. Obviously, clubs don't perform at the same level every week; they play within a range. It's our job as handicappers to predict how they'll perform based on things like the situation, on-field matchups, and roster/injury issues. The earlier it is in the season, the wider a team's range may be.Rating before Week 9 kickoffTEAMRATINGRANGEBills8370-85Chiefs7665-80Eagles7650-75Buccaneers6350-8049ers6250-70Cowboys6240-70Ravens5755-70Dolphins5745-70Rams5650-70Chargers5545-65Vikings5545-65Packers5550-65Bengals5450-70Patriots5440-60Raiders5040-60Cardinals4940-60Seahawks4630-45Saints4540-60Colts4240-60Jets4230-50Browns4240-65Commanders4230-50Falcons4130-50Giants3925-50Broncos3930-60Jaguars3830-50Steelers3835-50Lions3630-50Bears3630-45Panthers3620-45Titans3340-60Texans2320-40Notable Week 9 resultsThe big news from Week 9 was the Bills blowing an 11-point lead to the Jets. The bigger news, concerning Buffalo's starting quarterback's status, may be forthcoming. The Bills' astronomic rating started coming down even before kickoff, as they went from 13-point favorites down to 10.5.The Eagles closed as 14-point road favorites at Houston on Thursday night. That couldn't have been a function of a significant rating change to the Texans - they were already the worst team in the league. That line thus has to be mostly attributed to a major upgrade for the Eagles - one they weren't able to live up to on that night. We spoke last week of oddsmakers trying to tell us that the Buccaneers weren't very good. Their rating dropped this week, but after all eyes were forced to watch their contest against the Rams, are we sure they dropped far enough? And shouldn't the Rams be downgraded as well?Speaking of teams failing to live up to their brand, the Packers took another loss to a downtrodden franchise. Spoiler alert: Based on its Week 10 point spread with the Cowboys, Green Bay is headed for a plummet. The Sunday Night Football game was strangely intriguing, with the Titans covering comfortably. The Chiefs received a decent-sized upgrade due to coming off a bye following a big win over the 49ers. Meanwhile, the Titans were downgraded for playing without a legitimate passing game.On Monday night, the Ravens' injuries were deemed significant enough to downgrade them. The missing point was that they were adding Roquan Smith, Tyus Bowser, and Calais Campbell to a defense that struggled the week before. They'll go right back to the low 60s before their next game. The Carolina Panthers mystery continued, and we should've known that their upgrade - combined with a Bengals downgrade - was a recipe for disaster. A line that would've been -10 a week earlier was -7, and it turns out that would've been a more appropriate line. With Jeff Saturday taking over, it's clear that the Colts haven't hit the bottom yet and are likely to drop further. However, they play the Raiders, who found another way to disappoint last week and have also yet to find their floor. The Seahawks continue to validate their upward movement, winning and covering yet again. The Cardinals' rating should probably be stabilized well below average, especially since they don't have any more cards left to play after the return of DeAndre Hopkins.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. 1. Philadelphia Eagles (8-0) Carmen Mandato / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 1It's becoming increasingly difficult to look at the Eagles' schedule and identify a team that could spoil their perfect season.2. Kansas City Chiefs (6-2)Previous Rank: 3It was a close call Sunday night, but Patrick Mahomes wasn't going to let the Chiefs lose at home to the Titans. He's got a knack for absolutely ruining his opponent's day.3. Buffalo Bills (6-2)Previous Rank: 2We're not going to drop the Bills too far based on a loss to the Jets. But that's two weeks in a row the passing game hasn't quite been in sync.4. Dallas Cowboys (6-2)Previous Rank: 4The Cowboys are positioned strongly in the NFC playoff picture despite missing Dak Prescott for most of the season's first half. Dallas begins the campaign's latter half with a meeting against the imploding Packers.5. Baltimore Ravens (6-3) Cooper Neill / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 5Roquan Smith is already making an impact for the Ravens on defense. Ideally, the offense would have another weapon or two, but does it even matter if Lamar Jackson is once again playing like an MVP?6. Minnesota Vikings (7-1)Previous Rank: 6Don't look now, but the Vikings are 7-1 and keep finding ways to win. Kirk Cousins also seems to be having a blast both on and off the field.7. Miami Dolphins (6-3)Previous Rank: 7The Dolphins are a perfect 6-0 in games Tua Tagovailoa has started and finished. If he's healthy, Miami is a problem for the rest of the AFC.8. San Francisco 49ers (4-4)Previous Rank: 8The 49ers have to come out of the gate strong if they want to keep pace with the surging Seahawks.9. Cincinnati Bengals (5-4) Andy Lyons / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 12Joe Mixon going off for five touchdowns in a win over Carolina is a great sign for a Bengals offense that needed to get on track in the running game. That'll help Cincinnati stay afloat until Ja'Marr Chase returns.11. New York Jets (6-3)Previous Rank: 18The quarterback position is the only thing keeping the Jets from rocketing up this list, but let's see if Zach Wilson can continue to avoid mistakes like he did in a win over the Bills. That might be all New York needs.12. New York Giants (6-2)Previous Rank: 10The Giants went into their bye week coming off a loss to the Seahawks. They'll have a grand opportunity to get back on track with games against the Texans and Lions looming.13. Tennessee Titans (5-3)Previous Rank: 11Taking the Chiefs to overtime with a rookie quarterback who isn't ready to play is a testament to the Titans' defense and coaching staff. Don't sleep on this team in the playoff picture.14. Los Angeles Chargers (5-3)Previous Rank: 13Justin Herbert continues to do it all for the Chargers. If he can get even a little bit of help around him, this team has potential.15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5) Mike Ehrmann / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 16It took nine weeks, but the league finally witnessed more Tom Brady magic with his vintage game-winning drive against the Rams on Sunday.16. New England Patriots (5-4)Previous Rank: 17The Patriots continue to exceed expectations thanks to another outstanding Bill Belichick defense. Mac Jones and the offense have been a different story.17. Atlanta Falcons (4-5)Previous Rank: 15The Falcons aren't going to lay down for anyone. Atlanta arguably deserved better for its efforts in a tight loss to the Chargers.18. Los Angeles Rams (3-5)Previous Rank: 14The Rams' offense produced another flat performance. L.A. has failed to score 20 points in five of its eight games.19. Arizona Cardinals (3-6) Norm Hall / Getty Images Sport / GettyPrevious Rank: 20With a defense allowing an average of nearly 27 points per game, it's no shock the Cardinals sit in the NFC West's basement.21. New Orleans Saints (3-6)Previous Rank: 22With the likely season-ending injury to Michael Thomas and another loss in Week 9, the Saints' season is in a downward spiral.22. Chicago Bears (3-6)Previous Rank: 27It may have been a losing effort, but credit is due to the Bears and Justin Fields for lighting the field on fire in a close loss to the Dolphins. It's cruel that a controversial missed pass interference call was likely the difference.23. Cleveland Browns (3-5)Previous Rank: 24The Browns come out of the bye week with games against the Dolphins and Bills. It may be difficult for them to keep their season alive in anticipation of Deshaun Watson's return.24. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-6) Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyPrevious Rank: 28Trevor Lawrence played one of his best games of the year, leading the Jaguars to a comeback win over the Raiders. Is that the breakthrough Jacksonville needed?26. Detroit Lions (2-6)Previous Rank: 31Everyone has been picking on the Packers lately, but it must have felt good for Dan Campbell's defense to pick off Aaron Rodgers three times and hold him to just nine points.27. Green Bay Packers (3-6)Previous Rank: 21Sunday's contest against the Lions was supposed to be the turning point for Rodgers and the Packers. Instead, it may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.28. Indianapolis Colts (3-5-1)Previous Rank: 23Firing Frank Reich midseason and going outside the organization to hire former center Jeff Saturday, who has zero professional coaching experience, pretty much sums up the situation in Indy right now. Disaster.29. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-6)Previous Rank: 29The Steelers have some winnable games coming out of their Week 9 bye. Now's the time for Kenny Pickett to show that he can be Pittsburgh's quarterback of the future.30. Jeff Saturday was as surprised as anyone to learn the Indianapolis Colts picked him to take over as the team's new interim head coach."Shocked would be an understatement," Saturday told reporters Monday night during his introductory press conference. After firing Frank Reich earlier Monday, the Colts hired Saturday as their interim head coach. Saturday, who played 13 seasons for Indianapolis, comes with no professional coaching experience in the NFL or college football.Saturday's hiring has received criticism due to his lack of experience. However, Colts owner Jim Irsay defended the decision, calling his former center "fully experienced" and "fully capable" of doing the job."I'm glad he doesn't have any NFL experience. I'm glad he hasn't learned the fear that's in this league because it's tough for all our coaches," Irsay said. "They're afraid, they go to analytics, and it gets difficult. ... He doesn't have that fear."Irsay added that he expects a maturation curve for Saturday but downplayed the significance of needing coaching experience."We don't build rockets to go to Mars," Irsay said. "We're not nuclear scientists; that is none of our jobs here. It's a very simple job that we do here."Saturday described the process of taking over for his former team as a "12-hour whirlwind." Irsay also told reporters that the club didn't offer the interim job to anyone else.Asked why he passed over current coaches on the staff, Irsay replied: "He's the best man for the job. There's no question about it in my mind."Reich's firing is the franchise's latest change in response to a disappointing 3-5-1 start. The Colts also dismissed offensive coordinator Marcus Brady and relegated veteran quarterback Matt Ryan to the bench.Saturday said he hasn't chosen who will call plays on offense for the team's Week 10 game against the Las Vegas Raiders but has interviewed assistants on the offensive side of the ball and will make a decision later Monday night."There are fantastic coaches on this staff," Saturday said. "I have no fear I will pick the right guy, and we will ride with it."Despite the Colts' shakeup, Irsay added that he expects general manager Chris Ballard to return for the 2023 season.Indianapolis heads into its next contest on a three-game losing streak, with an offense averaging a league-worst 14.7 points per game.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is being evaluated for an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament and related nerves in his elbow, a source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.Allen appeared to be in discomfort after a hit to his throwing arm on the final drive of the Bills' 20-17 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday. He told reporters postgame that he was experiencing elbow pain, though he wasn't overly concerned about it.Head coach Sean McDermott said Monday that the team is still evaluating Allen's injury but should have more information in the next 24 hours, according to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg. If Allen is unable to play in the Week 10 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, veteran Case Keenum would be set to start at quarterback. The 26-year-old Allen has led the Bills to a 6-2 record this season. He's thrown for 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions while averaging a career-high 300.4 yards per game.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. The Green Bay Packers sustained a pair of significant injuries following their loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday.Linebacker Rashan Gary tore his ACL after going down in the third quarter, head coach Matt LaFleur announced Monday."It's a tremendous loss," LaFleur told reporters, including Ryan Wood of USA Today. "Not only from a production standpoint, but he is a guy who competes at the highest level."The star pass-rusher needed to be carted to the locker room.Wide receiver Romeo Doubs suffered a high ankle sprain, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The rookie wideout will undergo further tests to determine how much time he's expected to miss. Doubs recorded 31 catches for 314 yards and three touchdowns in nine games.David Bakhtiari, Christian Watson, and Eric Stokes also exited Sunday's contest due to injuries.Meanwhile, running back Aaron Jones should be able to practice ahead of this weekend's game against the Dallas Cowboys after tests came back clean on an ankle injury, Rapoport reports.Gary's production climbed steadily over his three-plus campaigns with the Packers. He blossomed last season by racking up career-high numbers with 47 tackles, 9.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, and 28 QB hits. The Michigan product leads the team with six sacks and seven TFLs through nine games this year.Linebackers Kingsley Enagbare and Jonathan Garvin could see their roles increase with Gary sidelined.Gary's absence is a big loss for the Packers amid a five-game skid. Unfortunately, I had an accident and injured my hand," McKinney said in a social media post. "The injury will keep me sidelined for a few weeks. Each Monday we'll finish off the week that was in the NFL with a look at value spots in the remaining game - under one condition: You promise not to chase. Whether Sunday provided a boost to the accounts or left a little to be desired, Monday Night Football provides an opportunity to show responsibility in your betting, as there will always be another wild Sunday to get lost in.We got into the spirit of Halloween last week to handicap the capper on Week 8, but every prime-time game in New Orleans sees its own share of costumes, tricks, and treats. That will be the challenge for the Ravens, who in recent years, haven't found a ton of success going on the road to some of the NFL's delightfully weird destinations at night. The Saints, meanwhile, should have the home crowd still believing in their chances of winning the NFC South.Ravens @ Saints (+1.5, 46.5)Prior to last week's win in tepid Tampa Bay, the Ravens' recent prime-time road trips had included Miami and Las Vegas in 2021, along with New England, Cleveland, and Buffalo in 2020. They lost four of the five games in those stadiums, which are on the high end of home-field advantage, and needed a miracle to cover the one victory in Cleveland. It's just not a situation that bodes well for Lamar Jackson. To make matters worse, Jackson will be without his favorite pass-catching target in Mark Andrews along with Rashod Bateman, leaving a corps of Devin Duvernay, James Proche, and Demarcus Robinson, the latter of whom is also questionable. Can he trust those players to be where they need to be, when they need to be there, in a raucous Superdome? The Ravens do lead the league in yards per carry - something that happens when you have a player like Jackson. However, JK Dobbins is out, and Gus Edwards may be as well, leaving Baltimore in a similar situation to last year when its traditional running game faltered.New Orleans has its own injury issues but has gotten used to players funneling in and out of the lineup. As long as the Saints have Alvin Kamara to lean on for explosive plays, and Taysom Hill available during the high-leverage moments, they can continue to produce close to their average of 6 yards per play, which is tied for fifth in the NFL.The Ravens acquired Roquan Smith from the Bears in hopes of improving their defense, which is giving up 5.7 yards per play after finishing last in that category in 2021. However, he may need more than just a few days with hi new club to make the necessary impact.Baltimore has built its 5-3 record on good first halves and either hanging on for victory or, in its three losses, blowing the lead. The Superdome, meanwhile, should be rocking. This game could continue the MNF betting trend of home underdogs being successful in the first half. If the Ravens can't generate an early lead, they might find themselves climbing an insurmountable hill against the Saints, who are as confident as they've been all season. This line has plummeted from Ravens -3.5 on open to under a field goal, and I agree with that move.Pick: Saints moneyline (+105)Alvin Kamara over 4.5 receptions (-125)The Ravens give up the fourth-most receptions and seventh-most yards to opposing running backs. Meanwhile, Kamara has 30 receptions on 34 targets in his four games since returning from injury. That coincided with Andy Dalton taking over at quarterback. While his predecessor, Jameis Winston, loved looking deep first, Dalton remains the starter because he's willing to check it down. With Mark Ingram out, that might mean an extra catch or two for Kamara.Josh Oliver anytime touchdown (+425)With Andrews out, Isaiah Likely will, ahem, likely be one of Jackson's primary targets, as he stepped in to catch six passes in Tampa Bay. Andrews was often lined in the mid-40s for his yardage total, so if Likely's prop totals pop shy of that range before kickoff, it's worth playing the over. However, Josh Oliver saw his most snaps of the season last week, and if he's the nominal TE2, this is a good price to take a half-unit shot on.Rashid Shaheed anytime touchdown (+500)You could put that other half-unit on Shaheed who's seen his involvement in the offense increase over his three games. The rookie has elite speed, scoring on a run play in his debut, and will assuredly get a look deep against the Ravens' secondary, which has had issues with speedsters getting in behind.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Sunday Rundown recaps the most important developments from the day's action and examines their significance moving forward.Fields giving Bears hope Quinn Harris / Getty Images Sport / GettyIf you had the Bears pegged as a surefire basement dweller heading into this season, you weren't alone. A new coaching staff overseeing one of the worst rosters in the NFL, and a raw young quarterback with next to no playmakers around him, seemed like a recipe for disaster.Chicago's final record may still end up in the range of what most of us were expecting, but the short-term results are secondary to the promise we've seen from this team of late. And it all starts with Justin Fields. The Bears went shot-for-shot against a juggernaut Dolphins offense Sunday, with Fields throwing for 123 yards and three touchdowns while running for an incredible 178 yards that included a 61-yard score. That monster performance on the ground broke Michael Vick's single-game regular-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback.Chicago came up just short in the end, falling 35-32 after a late fourth-down drop, but how can you not see the overall effort as something of a moral victory? After hesitating to feature his athleticism for much of a frustrating rookie year and in the early stages of this season, the Bears have finally begun to unlock their first-round quarterback's potential by letting him do what he does best. And the results speak for themselves.Fields is one of the best athletes in the game today. Among quarterbacks, he may be the most dynamic ball carrier not named Lamar Jackson. His game isn't yet on that level from a passing perspective, but asking defenses to account for his rare abilities as a runner is both opening up more plays in the pass game and giving Fields the confidence he needed to shine. With the rest of the 2021 quarterback class struggling to live up to expectations, it's beginning to seem like there's a real chance the Bears landed the best of the bunch. And while the current state of the roster will put a ceiling on the passing-game production they can expect this year, that won't be the case for long.Chicago is tracking to have over $110 million in cap space next season, nearly double the spending room of any other team. Fields beginning to show signs of elite upside should give the front office all the motivation it needs to go on a major spending spree and build up the roster around him.The Bears could be back far sooner than any of us expected.Mahomes is inevitable Cooper Neill / Getty Images Sport / GettyFor three-and-a-half quarters on Sunday night at Arrowhead, the Chiefs weren't the best team on the field. The Titans were dominating the line of scrimmage and keeping an explosive offense almost completely under wraps. They did just about everything right, and it still wasn't enough. That's just the reality of going up against the best quarterback on the planet. Patrick Mahomes decided late in the fourth quarter that the Chiefs weren't going to lose, so they didn't.With the game on the line and Tennessee so effectively limiting his ability to move the ball efficiently through the air, Mahomes began to improvise. Faced with a third-and-17 at his own 31-yard line late in the fourth, he scrambled for 20 yards. On third-and-9 at the Titans' 14-yard line, he broke the pocket and found the end zone. After penalties necessitated multiple two-point tries, he scrambled left to punch in the game-tying conversion. In overtime, it was his ability to extend plays under pressure that led to two key chunk gains downfield, putting the Chiefs in position for what would prove to be the game-winning field goal. Mahomes running around off-script and keeping plays alive the way he does is tough enough to defend as is. When a defense has been on the field for 91 plays, as the Titans were in this game, it's impossible to stop. All told, Mahomes finished the night 43-of-68 for 446 yards with one touchdown and one interception while also leading the team in rushing with 63 yards on six carries. No matter what you do, he'll almost always find a way to beat you in the end. So while we can spend all year picking trendy new MVP candidates after big performances here and there, there's one guy who probably should have been atop everyone's list this whole time.New low for Packers Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyWe sure are spending a lot of time talking about the demise of the Packers. But whose fault is that?Green Bay's disaster season hit rock bottom Sunday when a loss to the lowly Lions sent the now-former Super Bowl contenders to 3-6 on the year. This wasn't just any loss, though. This was the Packers' most pathetic result yet.If ever there was a game where the offense should have been able to get on track, this was it. Detroit's defense entered Week 9 ranked 32nd in average yards and points allowed - the latter of which was a distant last place. And yet, it still didn't matter. The Packers' offense remained anemic despite the best matchup it'll see all year. Aaron Rodgers had thrown three interceptions by the time Green Bay finally put points on the board late in the third quarter, all the while giving cameras some particularly animated displays of frustration.A talented defense kept the Packers in it to the end, getting the ball back down 15-9 with two minutes to play. In the past, even as recently as last year, giving Rodgers a chance to win it late was a death sentence for opponents - game-winning drives felt like a near certainty. But late-game Rodgers is no longer so scary. The Packers just don't have the weapons for this passing game to operate anywhere near the level we've come to expect over the last decade. Rodgers still has some of that old magic in his game, but receivers getting no separation and the offensive line getting whipped up front doesn't exactly give him many opportunities.Green Bay is in complete free-fall mode with no signs that it's going to stop any time soon. And a major decision about Rodgers' future once again lies ahead this offseason. Fortunately for the Packers, they just may be drafting high enough to target his replacement.Jets soaring on defense Elsa / Getty Images Sport / GettyJust when it seemed like their offensive struggles could be their undoing, the Jets go out and knock off a Bills team that has been almost unbeatable for the better part of the last calendar year. How's that for a statement?Robert Saleh's defense terrorized Josh Allen throughout the day, holding the MVP front-runner to just 205 passing yards while coming away with two interceptions and five sacks - the most Allen has taken since November 2020. The 17-point output is also Buffalo's lowest since Week 13 of last season. The Jets were always bound to improve on defense after injuries decimated that unit in Saleh's first season on the job, but the additions made this past offseason have substantially accelerated the process.Sauce Gardner continued his spectacular play against the Bills, shaking off a big catch from Stefon Diggs to do his part in shutting down a high-powered passing attack. The first-round rookie expertly baited Allen into a key interception early in the second half, putting the Jets in position for a go-ahead touchdown, and later broke up a fourth-down pass to seal the win.Having a rookie cornerback immediately emerge as an All-Pro caliber player is just one of many reasons that New York's defense is quickly becoming one of the NFL's best. With a healthy Carl Lawson returning to join the likes of Quinnen Williams and John Franklin-Myers, the pass rush is a handful, too. With playmakers in place on the other side of the ball and a strong offensive line providing a foundation up front, the only thing standing in the way of this Jets team going deep into the playoffs is steady quarterback play. Zach Wilson's game is just too much of a roller coaster to count on that right now, but give him credit - he did well to take care of the ball against an outstanding Bills defense. If Wilson can continue to simply manage the game and avoid the dangerous plays that risk giving it away, the Jets can make the AFC playoff picture a little more interesting.Vintage Brady Mike Ehrmann / Getty Images Sport / GettyIt certainly wasn't pretty, but a win is a win. And with a last-minute victory over the Rams, the Buccaneers are (somehow) back on top of the NFC South at 4-5.When L.A. was unable to run out the clock while leading by four and forced to punt it back to Tampa Bay with less than a minute to play, you just knew Tom Brady was going to find a way to pull this one out. Sixty yards to go with 44 seconds on the clock? No problem. These Bucs are extremely flawed - that we know. But Brady orchestrating one of his patented game-winning drives was a small reminder that we probably shouldn't be too quick to count them out. We've been down this road with this particular quarterback too many times before.Brady, like Rodgers, is still every bit the player he's been the last few years. The Bucs, unlike the Packers, though, have all the weapons a quarterback could possibly want. The solution for this offense lies not in unsolvable personnel issues but more so in correctable aspects of the scheme.Might the glimpses of brilliance late in the game, when Tampa Bay had no option but to air it out, be the unintended catalyst for ditching a useless running game? At this point, with the Bucs ranked last place in average yards per carry, each handoff serves to merely waste a play and put the offense in difficult late-down situations.Put the ball in Brady's hands as much as you possibly can and see if the offense can't throw its way out of the early issues. You may be surprised by the results. Or, considering it's Brady we're talking about here, you may not.Quick slantsMixon's monster day Dylan Buell / Getty Images Sport / GettyJoe Mixon can now be enshrined in the Fantasy Football Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Charles. The Bengals running back was a scoring machine in a win over the Panthers, tallying a ridiculous five touchdowns to come up just one short of Kamara's single-game record. We can't draw too many conclusions from a blowout against Carolina, but Cincinnati's run game has quietly been trending in the right direction after an awful start. Getting Mixon going would be huge for a Bengals offense that will be without Ja'Marr Chase for at least a few weeks.Herbert getting no helpHow long are the Chargers going to insist on Justin Herbert dragging them to every win they get? It's bad enough for Joe Lombardi's system to be limiting one of the league's most talented passers. But even when players are schemed open in space, drives are killed by back-breaking drops. Los Angeles was a popular Super Bowl pick this year after going all-in with the rare opportunity presented by a stud quarterback on a rookie contract, but this team still has to do better around him. The Chargers should be at the front of the line for Odell Beckham Jr. if they aren't already.Raiders going off the railsIt's officially time to start talking about whether Josh McDaniels is even going to make it to Year 2 of his second-chance head coaching opportunity. The Raiders have been a colossal disappointment to this point, and Sunday's game against the Jaguars, of all teams, marks the third time this season that Las Vegas has blown a 17-point lead en route to a loss. The defense is one of the league's worst against the pass, so you can expect some scapegoats there. But the disappearing acts from McDaniels' offense are just as much to blame, if not more, for these collapses. Giving the new regime a chance to build the organization their way feels like the right move, but this much regression after finally getting back to the playoffs last year has to have Mark Davis running low on patience already.Judon quietly dominates Maddie Malhotra / Getty Images Sport / GettyMatthew Judon has proven that the career-high 12.5 sacks in his first season with the Patriots were no fluke, taking his game to even greater heights in Year 2. Judon got to Sam Ehlinger for another three sacks in Sunday's blowout win over the Colts, giving him a league-high 11.5 through nine games. On first look, his four-year, $54.5-million deal to join New England seemed like one of several overpays in a busy 2021 offseason. Now, it looks much more like a steal. Judon has become one of the most under-appreciated stars in the game.Hockenson's instant impactThe Vikings wasted no time working T.J. Hockenson into the offense this week, giving their new tight end a major role just five days after acquiring him from the division-rival Lions at the trade deadline. Hockenson hauled in all nine of his targets for 70 yards, operating as Minnesota's second-leading pass-catcher behind only Justin Jefferson. If his integration is that seamless after three days of practice time, there's no telling how much of an impact he'll have given a few weeks to settle in. The Vikings seem poised to run away with the NFC North at 7-1, and Hockenson could help them make some noise in January.Willis not ready to playThe Titans likely would have come away with a stunning win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead were they able to get any sort of production out of the passing game. But with Malik Willis starting for an injured Ryan Tannehill, that just wasn't a realistic means of moving the ball. Willis finished the night 5-of-16 for just 80 yards, 50 of which came on a screen pass on the first play of the game. That they even had a chance to knock off Kansas City with such little trust in the quarterback position is a testament to a wildly underrated Titans defense and, more broadly, what continues to be a supremely coached team. Tennesse is once again going to be a pesky out in the playoffs.Stat of the week

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams voiced his frustration Sunday after his team suffered a disappointing loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars to drop to 2-6 this season."There's no reason why we should be losing games like this, and it's frustrating," Adams said postgame, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "If we played for a shitty team, then it's one thing. But that's not what it is."Coming off a 24-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints, the Raiders built a 17-0 lead over the Jaguars but weren't able to hold on to it, ultimately suffering a 27-20 defeat. It was Las Vegas' third loss this year after holding a lead of at least 17 points. The Raiders scored a touchdown or field goal on all but one of their offensive drives in the first half. However, Las Vegas was shut out in the final two quarters and allowed 17 unanswered Jacksonville points."The way we were attacking in the first half was working, to a certain extent," Adams said. "I feel like we got away from that and started playing the game a little different, and that's not the way we've got to do it."The All-Pro wideout added he isn't taking a shot at the Raiders' coaching staff with his postgame remarks."But at the end of the day, if I'm rolling in certain situations like that, or if the pass game is something that's helping us move the ball and win games, then, obviously, that's the idea. You want to stick with what's working," said Adams, who caught 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns in Week 9.He added: "We did a decent enough job to still put ourselves in a decent position moving into the second half, and then we just basically fell apart. I don't even know how else to even characterize it. But it's frustrating. Ain't no way we should be losing games at the rate we are, let alone the way that we are."Las Vegas entered this season with high expectations after hiring head coach Josh McDaniels. The Raiders acquired Adams in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers and signed free-agent pass-rusher Chandler Jones this past offseason, adding to a team that posted a 10-7 record and made the playoffs last year.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The New York Jets held Josh Allen in check and used a late scoring drive to upset the Buffalo Bills 20-17 on Sunday.Tied at 17 late, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson engineered a 86-yard drive before Greg Zuerlein drilled a game-winning field goal with just over a minute remaining. The Jets kept Allen from throwing a passing touchdown and intercepted him twice in the victory over their divisional rival. It was the first game this season in which the Bills quarterback did not throw for a score."It's tough to win when your quarterback plays like shit," Allen said postgame, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Allen, who was favoring his arm after getting hit on the Bills' final drive, added that he's feeling some pain in his elbow, though he wasn't overly concerned.New York's ground game played a critical role as the unit rushed for 174 yards. Michael Carter led the team with 76 yards while James Robinson contributed 48.The victory moves the Jets to 6-3, positioning them just behind the 6-2 Bills. Despite a lack of activity, the Green Bay Packers reportedly tried to make a splash at the trade deadline. The Packers aggressively pursued a move for Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller in the lead-up to Tuesday's cutoff, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.Green Bay also reportedly targeted former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool, as well as D.J. Moore from the Carolina Panthers. It offered a first-round pick for Moore, reports Fox Sports' Jay Glazer. The Raiders deemed Waller too valuable to trade after penning him to a three-year, $51-million extension in September, according to Rapoport and Pelissero.Pittsburgh ultimately shipped Claypool to the Chicago Bears, reportedly preferring their second-round pick, while Carolina elected against dealing the 25-year-old Moore. The Packers have been criticized for failing to provide two-time reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers enough help offensively. Their quiet deadline drew increased scrutiny thanks to their NFC North rivals' moves, including the Minnesota Vikings' acquisition of 2020 Pro Bowler T.J. If the Washington Commanders are up for sale, Brooklyn Nets star and former MVP Kevin Durant wants to join their next ownership group."In a perfect world, I would be a part of it," Durant said, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN. "I would love to do it. I would love to give a little bit of my money to be a part of the Commanders, but we'll see."Hopefully it's somebody nice. I heard (Jeff) Bezos and Jay-Z, but you never know."The Amazon CEO and the rapper are reportedly interested in purchasing the franchise together, according to Mark Maske, Nicki Jhabvala, and Liz Clarke of The Washington Post. They'd need to entice longtime owner Dan Snyder, who enlisted BofA Securities to "consider potential transactions" surrounding the franchise Wednesday. It's unclear if Snyder intends to sell the team outright or part with minority stakes.Durant was born in Washington, D.C. in 1988, 11 years before Snyder bought the team in May 1999. The Brooklyn Nets star was raised in the DMV - the colloquial term for the metropolitan area encompassing D.C and parts of Maryland and Virginia - and has long been a fan of the NFL franchise. If the 34-year-old were to join a new ownership group, he said he'd likely remain a fan rather than attempt to sway daily operations. The 12-time NBA All-Star admitted, though, that the Commanders' expected lucrative valuation may prove too expensive for him to acquire a stake. The Commanders are worth an estimated $5.6 billion, according to Forbes. Durant will have earned nearly $500 million in career salary by 2026, according to Spotrac."I don't have that much money to say, 'Look, man, let me get a piece of the team,'" he said. "So I'm sure it would have to work out some way, somehow. I would love to, obviously, but to be honest, I doubt that it'll happen."The Commanders are reportedly under investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia for alleged financial impropriety and deceptive business practices.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The NFL trade deadline almost had another blockbuster deal. The Los Angeles Rams offered two first-round draft picks and a second-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for pass-rusher Brian Burns, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. However, Carolina reportedly rebuffed the NFC West club's offer. It was previously reported that the Rams were in on running back Christian McCaffrey, who ultimately went to the San Francisco 49ers.L.A offered second-, third-, and fifth-round picks along with running back Cam Akers in exchange for the All-Pro, added Schefter. The 24-year-old Burns, meanwhile, is among the best young pass-rushers in the NFL. He racked up 25.5 sacks in his first three seasons with Carolina and has a team-high five this year. The Super Bowl champions have been among the bigger disappointments of the season, producing a 3-4 record through Week 8.With issues on offense and rushing the passer, potential moves for McCaffrey and Burns make sense for the Rams, who made blockbuster trades for the likes of cornerback Jalen Ramsey in recent years.L.A. ranks 28th in points per game (16.9) and 20th in sacks per game (2.1).Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Dallas Cowboys could be entering the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes. The free-agent wide receiver is on the Cowboys' radar, and the club is expected to pursue him when he's fully recovered from a torn ACL, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.Beckham is reportedly looking to return in early December after initially hoping to be healthy by mid-November.Two of Beckham's former teams - the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams - and the Buffalo Bills are also reportedly interested. The veteran is apparently hoping for a multi-year contract. The Cowboys made offers for Denver Broncos wideout Jerry Jeudy and Houston Texans receiver Brandin Cooks prior to the trade deadline but were unable to agree on prices, added Rapoport, Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero.Beckham was integral to the Rams' Super Bowl win last season, racking up 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games and 288 yards and two scores in the postseason.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. Multiple teams reached out to the NFL this week to inquire about pushing back the trade deadline from its current spot after Week 8 to after either Week 10 or Week 12, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The idea is reportedly set to be discussed at the NFL's general manager committee meetings later in November before being potentially presented for a vote at the owners' meetings in the spring. The proposal comes after the busiest trade deadline day in NFL history. A record 10 deals were made Tuesday, including trades for pass-rusher Bradley Chubb, receiver Chase Claypool, and tight end T.J. In betting player props, you have to avoid injuries on over bets and a fluky explosive play on unders. You can also fade Zach Wilson's success, be correct when he plays poorly - throwing three interceptions and completing less than half his passes - but still lose because he keeps throwing while trailing, going over his yardage total. Quarterbacks will keep slinging it in a negative game state, but how can we accurately predict that? The Jets were one roughing the passer penalty away from taking a two-score lead, and Wilson would have played it more conservatively from there. Alas, we're back to 40-40 through eight weeks as we look to match game states with player usage for Week 9.Sam Ehlinger longest rush over 12.5 yardsWant to be annoyed by something? Ehlinger didn't hit the over for us last week, and oddsmakers still adjusted his rushing yards total from 25.5 to 29.5! We were probably onto something with that bet, as he had a long run called back due to a hold. This week we'll ask him to get loose for one good gain against the Patriots.Robert Tonyan over 30.5 receiving yardsLast time we turned to "Big Bob" Tonyan, he racked up 10 catches on 12 targets. Even with less usage in the past two weeks, he still cleared this total. Now Aaron Rodgers goes from throwing through the pressure brought by the Commanders' and Bills' fronts to the cozy setup of the Lions' defense in the dome. Tonyan should continue to get looks and do a lot with them.Gabriel Davis over 53.5 receiving yardsAt the risk of over-simplifying things, the Bills won 45-17 at the Jets last year, with Stefon Diggs catching eight passes for 162 yards. That might have been enough to force New York to draft Sauce Gardner. Assuming the rookie corner gets his first look at Diggs, that'll garner Gabriel Davis a few extra targets. The Jets did succeed at keeping Josh Allen in the pocket last year, which just means more throws down the field to Buffalo's receivers.Joe Mixon under 68.5 rushing yardsAt this point, Mixon's total even being this high has to be due to either name reputation or the assumption of a positive game state that a touchdown-plus favorite suggests. However, our moneyline upset of the week predicts this won't be a piece of cake for the Bengals. We have to assume the Panthers' solid run defense (4.2 yards per carry against) will be the next team to hold Mixon near his season average of just 3.3 yards per carry.Antonio Gibson over 21.5 receiving yardsThere's been a shift in running back roles for Washington. Brian Robinson takes the early-down carries, while Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic split the backup/third-down snaps. McKissic is out this week, and since Robinson especially hasn't shown comfort in that role with just two catches in four games, that means more looks in the passing game for Gibson - a former college receiver.Khalil Herbert over 37.5 rushing yardsDavid Montgomery might get the nominal honor of starting this game, but he's not the best running back on the Bears, and they might only be figuring that out now. Herbert edged Montgomery by a carry in Dallas and almost doubled his production. With winds gusting in Soldier Field, Herbert should get opportunities to clear a modest total.Justin Herbert over 280.5 passing yardsIt's hard to know who will catch passes from Herbert, but given what a mess the Falcons' secondary is right now and the likelihood Atlanta moves the ball on the ground against the Chargers' defense, it has to be somebody. Missing two starting receivers isn't ideal on the surface, but it also may be what's depressing this line, and it's not like Herbert has had Keenan Allen much this year, anyway.Davante Adams over 75.5 receiving yardsSpeaking of depressed totals, Adams' number might be this low because he had three yards last week. Having dealt with the flu before the game in New Orleans, it seems unfair that cashing an under that easily only counts for one unit in the account. Adams should be back to his usual self, though, with extra motivation to have a big game following a shutout loss.Tyler Lockett under 5.5 receptionsThe Cardinals and Seahawks met in Seattle three weeks ago, and while the scoreboard looked like a comfy win for the home side, the offense only tallied 160 yards passing. Meanwhile, the team saw the worst stats of the season from both DK Metcalf and Lockett, who's also had five catches or less in three of his last four games. Seattle knows they can rely on Kenneth Walker and Noah Fant - most teams hurt Arizona with the tight end.Rachaad White over 17.5 receiving yardsA week and a half is an eternity for NFL coaching staffs. Leonard Fournette was targeted nine times in the Rams-Bucs playoff matchup last season, but Tampa has shown signs that it wants to deploy the quicker White. Look for him earlier, and more often, in the passing game to keep Aaron Donald and company on their heels.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara doesn't like the criticism Michael Thomas has received regarding the wide receiver's injury concerns."I just saw a couple of comments in the media about him," Kamara said Friday, according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell. "Basically like, 'You can't trust him. He's not being honest about his injury, why is he waiting until now to be ruled out?' I'm like, man, nobody knows what we go through in here. The masses get to see Sunday."He added, "It's a lot of shit we've got to go through. A player like that, that's fighting to get back, not only for his team but for the fans and for this city. ... For people to be talking shit, it hurts my soul to see that."Head coach Dennis Allen announced Thursday that Thomas will undergo toe surgery and isn't expected to return this season. The two-time All-Pro played the first three games of the year but missed the last five due to the injury. This is the third straight season in which Thomas has missed time with injuries. The 2019 Offensive Player of the Year didn't play at all in 2021 due to a setback from an ankle injury that also sidelined him for multiple games in 2020. The 29-year-old has made only 10 regular-season appearances over the last three campaigns."Nobody's in here like 'Let me get injured and not play and just get paid,'" Kamara added. "We get paid to play, obviously, and we want to be available, but when you can't do it, there's certain things you've got to be smart about. He's not going to ruin the rest of his career for right now."Thomas inked a five-year, $96.25-million extension in July 2019. He set a record for catches the following campaign with 149 for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns. The Ohio State product, whom New Orleans drafted in the second round in 2016, led the league in receptions twice and topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first four NFL seasons while missing just one game.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Los Angeles Chargers can't catch a break.Los Angeles ruled out star wide receiver Keenan Allen for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons due to a hamstring injury, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.Allen played in Week 7 after missing five games but had a setback with his injured hamstring while on a bye last week. The five-time Pro Bowler has caught only six passes for 77 yards in two appearances this year.Mike Williams, who leads the Chargers with 495 yards, won't play Sunday due to an ankle injury. He's reportedly expected to miss at least four weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 7.Los Angeles might also miss receiver DeAndre Carter, who was added to the injury report Friday with an illness. The Chargers also roster wideouts Joshua Palmer, Michael Bandy, and Jason Moore, as well as tight end Gerald Everett. The team's issues at wide receiver should increase Austin Ekeler's workload. Crank up the 1980's AC/DC hit "Back in Black!" A 3-0 sweep on last week's against-the-spread plays, a teaser winner, and avoiding some of the bad beats that plagued us in recent weeks helped drag us back to even on the season.Realistically, those who've entered the market at widely available numbers are more than breaking even so far, as we essentially start fresh for the back half of the season.BET TYPELAST WEEKSEASON (units)ATS trio3-0 (+3)12-10-2 (+1)ML upset-15-3 (+6.6)Totals-1.12-6 (-4.6)Teasers+13-5 (-3)TOTAL+1.90Best bets ATSRaiders -2Last week in New Orleans was ugly. So ugly that the Saints' shutout of the Raiders should be considered an outlier when evaluating Las Vegas. It hasn't stopped early money from coming on the road team, as this line is up from an open at pick'em. The Raiders stayed on the road, arriving in Florida no later than the Jaguars did after returning from London. One reason the Raiders' fiasco might be a one-off is the rumors of flu-like illness going through the locker room last week. It's hardly a coincidence that Davante Adams would miss practice mid-week and then have the worst game of his career.Going into their next contest healthier - and more focused after being humiliated - the Raiders will return to playing their usual close game, which will appropriately match the Jags' tendency to cough up a victory.Lions +4Speaking of an inability to close games, we have to consider the Lions to win outright, but it's far more likely they come close but falter. That would be fine as this line has climbed to -4, equaling the market's point of view of the Dolphins' visit to Detroit last week. Based on what we've seen from each team this season, does it make sense that the Packers are on the same plane as Miami?Miami pushed the closing point spread last week, so there's no reason to believe that line wasn't fair. I have this game lined under three points, so anything above a field goal has to be a bet, given there's no reason to believe the Packers can take advantage of the Lions' suspect pass defense the way solid teams like the Eagles, Vikings, Seahawks, Patriots, Cowboys, and Dolphins have.Buccaneers -3This is more about fading the Rams and less about backing the Buccaneers - Tampa at least has the mini-bye after playing on Thursday night in Week 9. As long as none of the NFC South teams can take the division, the Bucs will continue to have hope. They've also got some revenge on their minds after the Rams knocked them out of the playoffs last season. On the field, at 5.5 yards per play against, the Rams don't have the defense they had when they shut down the Bucs for a half in the NFC Divisional Round, and if Cooper Kupp isn't 100%, they won't have any semblance of an offense, period.Moneyline upset of the weekOur defined parameter for this section is underdogs paying at least +150.Panthers +280We discussed this game at length in the round-robin underdog moneyline parlay, but at +280, this is worth a shot on its own. The Bengals have run the ball functionally in just one game all season, and their inconsistent pass-blocking lends itself to high-variance results - a bad thing for the favorite.Defensively, Cincinnati lost Chidobe Awuzie for the season with an ACL tear, and its cornerback depth chart is getting as thin as it was against the Falcons when PJ Walker went off for 8.8 yards per pass attempt. If they can avoid careless turnovers, the Panthers can move the ball, and the Bengals might not be able to keep up with a pretty vanilla attack.Best total betColts / Patriots under 40.5Points may be very hard to come by in New England, which is one reason we're trying the Colts in the RR MLP. While I think this game is a true toss-up, it's worth acknowledging that Sam Ehlinger may have issues with Bill Belichick's game plan. The Colts, though, are a top-10 defense in opponent's yards per play - metrics accumulated despite missing some key pieces throughout the season so far. We could be heading for a field-goal fest on Saturday.Best 6-point teaserBills -5.5 / Saints +8.5We have to hand in our "sharp bettor" card for this, but the Bills were a last-minute cut from an ATS bet above. Now that they've moved to -11.5, you're receiving full value for a six-point teaser. You're now getting the possible six-point winning margin at -5.5, and you're at least protected by a backdoor cover.I'd pair that with Monday night's game and the probability that the Saints play a one-score game with the Ravens in a meeting between two sides that haven't pulled away from or gotten blown out by basically anyone.Matt Russell is a betting writer for theScore. Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor will miss Sunday's game against the New England Patriots due to an ankle injury, the team announced Friday.Colts head Frank Reich said Indianapolis has no plans to place Taylor on injured reserve, calling the ailment a week-to-week issue, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic.Deon Jackson will start for the Colts after they traded Nyheim Hines to the Buffalo Bills just before Tuesday's deadline. Zack Moss, who came in as part of the Hines deal, and Phillip Lindsay could also see work.Taylor missed Weeks 5 and 6 due to the same ankle injury, and Jackson produced 104 rushing yards, 108 receiving yards, and one touchdown in those two games. After leading the NFL in rushing last season, Taylor has struggled to maintain that form amid major issues for the Colts' offense. He has 462 rushing yards and one touchdown, with his lone 100-yard game coming in the season opener.Meanwhile, sophomore pass-rusher Kwity Paye will return on a snap count after a high ankle sprain kept him sidelined since Week 5, according to Mike Chappell of Fox59.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. theScore's NFL insider Jordan Schultz checks in on the major award races and gives you his early leaders in each category.Offensive Rookie of the Year Steph Chambers / Getty ImagesKenneth Walker III, SeahawksWalker possesses a special blend of power, speed, and a herky-jerky running style that has helped him average 100.8 yards rushing (6.4 yards per carry) and four touchdowns in the last four games as he assumed the starter's load. The Seahawks will continue relying on Walker because there's built-in trust, not only between him and the coaching staff but with quarterback Geno Smith as well. That's even more significant to me, and it's why Walker has a chance to put together one of the more impressive rookie campaigns we've ever seen at running back. His five rushes of 20 or more yards not only lead all rookies, but he's tied with three teams - yes, teams - for the most touchdown runs of 10 or more yards.Defensive Rookie of the YearTariq Woolen, Seahawks Nic Antaya / Getty ImagesI could easily go with the Jets' Sauce Gardner here, but my pick is Seattle's fifth-round selection out of UTSA - "lightning in a bottle," as one GM described him to me. "He just keeps making plays, not easy ones either: really tough plays that are next level for a veteran, let alone a rookie."Woolen, who played wide receiver until his junior year, is 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, and clocked a freaky 4.28 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the combine. He also has a 42-inch vertical leap. In eight games, he's recorded four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and a touchdown - not to mention seven passes defended."Watch, he's going to be very good." DK Metcalf told me recently. "Tariq is similar to me athletically, except he's a DB. You can't coach that. He's got the perfect mentality too."Should Woolen and Walker both win, it would be just the third time the same team has captured both awards. (The Saints' Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore did it in 2017; Detroit's Mel Farr and Lem Barney both won in 1967.)Offensive Player of the Year Sarah Stier / Getty ImagesSaquon Barkley, GiantsExplosive, fast, balanced: Take your pick. Barkley has been all three and plenty more, looking every bit like his dominant self from his 2018 ROY campaign. What I love most about Barkley this season is his clutch playmaking. It seems like he's made every big run and catch when called upon by the Giants. The Green Bay game in London is a perfect example - Barkley scored the game-winning touchdown - but so too is his game-winning two-point conversion in Week 1 at Tennessee. Not to mention the win over Chicago when Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor both got hurt, forcing Barkley to take snaps at QB - and succeed."One of the most dangerous guys in the league once he touches the ball," one team's director of scouting told me. "He's so strong and so quick laterally, but then he rips off a 40-yarder because he's also so fast."Defensive Player of the Year Mitchell Leff / Getty ImagesMicah Parsons, CowboysIt seemed impossible that Parsons could follow up his record-setting rookie season with an even better year, but that's exactly what No. 11 has done. One of the league's most dominant players, period, the former Penn State standout anchors one of the league's best defenses.Parsons is the ultimate unicorn. On a given series, he'll play inside linebacker and track down a running back in the open field. Then he'll line up as a defensive end, bulldoze a chip block, and sack the QB. Come third-and-long, he'll cover a receiver 10 yards down the field and help force an incompletion. It's no surprise that he ranks first in the NFL in terms of pass-rush win rate, ahead of Myles Garrett and Bradley Chubb. "You can't block him, like at all," a Pro Bowl offensive player told me. "You're always aware of him. Always."Comeback Player of the Year Steph Chambers / Getty ImagesGeno Smith, SeahawksGeno Smith is the best story in sports right now. How many times was he counted out? Twice in New York, not to mention with the Chargers and even to some extent in Seattle while backing up Russell Wilson. Not only has Smith bested Wilson this season, but he has also been one of the premier quarterbacks in football - leading the league in completion percentage (72.7%), third in passer rating (107.2, ahead of Josh Allen), and fourth in QBR (66.6).I spent some time with Smith last week and what impresses me the most isn't just the football side of things, but his maturity and appreciation for this moment. At 32 years old, he hasn't been QB1 since 2014. But he's been preparing like one, intent on succeeding when the time came.Halfway through the season, he's guided the surprising Seahawks to a 5-3 record and first place in the NFC West. According to Next Gen Stats, Smith also leads the league in completion percentage above expectation, which measures the difference between a passer's actual completion rate and the rate at which he would be expected to complete those throws based on how difficult they are. TruMedia puts Smith fifth among QBs with an off-target rate of only 6.8%, according to The Athletic's Michael-Shawn Dugar."Geno's the real deal," an NFL executive told me recently. "Someone's gonna pay him a ton of money, and if I'm John (Schneider, the Seahawks GM), I'm probably looking at extending him now before the price goes up."Coach of the Year Jim McIsaac / Getty ImagesBrian Daboll, GiantsDaboll was the perfect hire for the G-Men. His workmanlike mentality and the team's overall culture change after Joe Judge have been vital shifts. The roster hasn't turned over that much, yet the results couldn't be more different. At 6-2, Big Blue has been the definition of toughness and resilience.Giants players have echoed this idea to me as well. Look at their unlikely comeback win over the Packers. Down 17-3 to Aaron Rodgers, they easily could have folded - as they did on a weekly loop under Judge last season. Instead, they took ownership of the situation and adopted the identity of their head coach, ultimately stealing a 27-22 win."Not a fun team to play," a starting offensive player told me. "They're not beating themselves and you can tell they believe. Not fancy, but that's a solid approach to winning."Most Valuable Player Ezra Shaw / Getty ImagesPatrick Mahomes, ChiefsWe told you before the season that Mahomes might hit the 50-touchdown mark, and we were wrong. He might hit 60.There's no designated way to play him either. Remember last year, when it felt like every team was going two-high with its safeties, basically forcing him to take the middle and short stuff? He's figured that out and graduated to the next level. Mahomes' weekly masterclass on quarterbacking is matched only by Bills megastar Josh Allen, who I'd slot second in this race."The best quarterback to me is Mahomes," the scouting director told me. "He's Steph Curry. He's changing the game."Jordan Schultz is theScore's NFL insider and senior NBA reporter. Follow him on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Philadelphia Eagles are 8-0 for the first time in franchise history after beating the Houston Texans on Thursday night, but quarterback Jalen Hurts isn't getting carried away."I know it's special for the city of Philadelphia," Hurts said, according to Grant Gordon of NFL.com. "I mean, I've been 8-0 before and lost the national championship. Just take it day by day. Take it day by day."We haven't accomplished anything yet. It's a day-by-day thing of us controlling things we can, playing to our standard and trying to grow every day. I think that's truly what it's about."Hurts put together another impressive performance in the 29-17 prime-time victory to add to his MVP-caliber season, throwing for 243 yards and two touchdowns. He did lose a fumble amid a slow first half for the Eagles' offense, which opened up the door for Houston to keep the game closer than most expected entering the matchup. But Philadelphia caught fire in the third quarter to preserve its undefeated start to the season. Defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson snagged an interception to help set up Hurts' touchdown pass to a wide-open A.J. Brown.Attention will inevitably turn to the Eagles' pursuit of regular-season perfection, and the NFC East club only has four games remaining against teams that currently have a winning record - the Tennessee Titans in Week 13, Dallas Cowboys in Week 16, and New York Giants in Weeks 14 and 18.But Philadelphia is focused on taking the season one game at a time."This shit is hard," Brown said, according to Zach Berman of The Athletic. "Prime example: the first half. They took the ball out of our hand, running the ball. We've got to find a way to adjust. We're not caught up in trying to go perfect. That's not even a conversation right now. We're just trying to win. Find a way to win."The Eagles are set to host the Washington Commanders in Week 10.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc.
