How to get rid of an unwanted gun in Texas?
I am worried that my husband is going to kill himself. He has made comments about wanting to shoot himself in the head, and we have three guns. If I can get him to agree to it, I want to get rid of the guns. I think they are too much of a risk, and we don't even use them. Only thing is, I have no idea how to get rid of a gun. Looking up TX laws, the only thing I could find was stuff about when you want the gun. I've heard of gun buyback programs, but I can't find any info online about it. My husband is the gun owner, not me, so I am guessing he would have to be the one to sell...will gun stores take used weapons? I'm pretty sure you can't just put that shit on ebay right? I thought about calling the police department to ask, but I don't want them to overreact and take him to a mental hospital...not sure what to do. The depression is always going to be there, so long term I don't see the point in storing them with a friend temporarily. . submitted by /u/cogitom
PSA Dagger & MechTech CCU?
For years I've kind of been wanting to get one of those MechTech CCU kits. It's one of those just cause things, I have no need for another firearm and no real role for the MechTech to fill aside from not having a pistol caliber carbine yet. I don't have Glocks or Springfields, and not going to invest in either just to put the CCU kit on it and leave it that way. I've got a few 1911s and have been wanting to try my hand at building and fitting one, so that's the direction I was leaning. I keep seeing the PSA Dagger frames pop up on sale on their emails for around $50. IIRC those are supposed to be glock compatible, but don't know the details. Has anyone tried using a MechTech CCU on the PSA dagger frame? Is there any reason that it would not work? submitted by /u/FNG-Turk

Question regarding some seller requests on GunBroker?
Noob question- thanks for bearing with me. I'm new at this. Maybe I'm wrong. But I thought when you win an auction, and pay for the item, GunBroker has a FFL database where you find your FFL and select it. Shouldn't THAT be all that's needed for the buyer? Why do so many sellers have big descriptions on how "you MUST have your FFL send us their info first!". Isn't the info all there in that database? You can even look up FFLs online... Thanks for any clarification where I might be wrong. submitted by /u/NewbutOld8
Concealed carry as a warehouse worker?
Does anyone conceal at work in a warehouse position? I'm not sure of a great way to carry since I'm bending at the waist constantly, which makes appendix uncomfortable, and something like 3 o'clock difficult to conceal. Does anyone have any advice? The only thing I thought of was an ankle holster, but in the summer, I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to wear pants on a loading dock in hot weather. submitted by /u/striderman1

Looking for recommendations; In your opinion, what's the fastest pistol you can buy for around $2k?
Fastest in terms of follow up shots, not rate of fire. Currently I'm leaning towards the CZ TSO 2 whenever it becomes available, but maybe there's something out there that I'm not aware of. I know at this price point I'm not going to get any crazy nice open division gun, but if I just want to have fun and pretend to be John Wick what would you recommend? Call it arbitrary, but I really want a gas pedal/thumb rest. I'd also like it to be optics ready out of the box but this isn't mandatory. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/Caligula-6
1911 extractor tension: The magazine is probably not the issue and why you should adjust extractor tension on new 1911s
Yesterday I bought a new Colt Competition 1911, the plan is to have some light custom work done. Barrel crown, nicer bushing fit and a disconnector ramp, nothing crazy, just the things I'd like to have. Normally I check and adjust extractor tension on new 1911s when I clean and oil the gun before shooting for the first time. Yesterday I didn't and it was a good reminder of why I do it. When a 1911 has an under-tensioned extractor the gun basically goes haywire. You don't just get one kind of jam, you get all of them, in no repeatable pattern. If you don't know the symptoms of an under-tensioned extractor it can be maddening and most shooters immediately blame the magazine. The first thing the entire internet tells you is the magazine is crap, buy a Wilson Combat magazine and all will be fixed. Because the WC magazine is designed differently than a typical 1911 magazine it may seem to work better, but it still won't fix the core problem. With an under-tensioned extractor here are the multitude of issues you'll experience: The gun will feed fine on the first round of a magazine. Even a weak extractor can handle this part of the feed cycle. All seems good, and now comes the frustrating part. The gun will then fail to extract, and drop the spent case down into the magazine/feed ramp area causing a nasty jam as the magazine attempts to feed a new round. I don't know what this is called, but it's basically an empty round and a live round trying to occupy the same space. You'll know you have this issue when you strip the magazine and an empty and live round fall out of the magazine well. The gun will sometimes extract, but fail to hold the round long enough to eject, causing another nasty jam. This is usually a stovepipe jam. Sometimes the gun will feed, eject, but fail to feed a new round because the extractor tension is so weak the round isn't held against the breech face and tilts downward, right into the ramp. This is a feedramp jam. When you get any or all of these issues, with no repeatable pattern, you have an extractor issue, not a magazine issue. You can see why most would blame the magazine, it seems to be the culprit, it's an easy "fix," but it's not the solution. The 1911 is an extraordinarily simple gun. That's the appeal. It can be easy to isolate the variable causing the problem if you understand how it works. If you're having similar issues with your 1911 I hope this helps. submitted by /u/heekma

Should I get a gun for self defense?
Hi, I am a student at one of many universities in the United States and I will soon be getting my own apartment after moving out of the dorms. The city I am in has a large crime rate with assaults, large amounts of violence, and on top of that I have had my life threatened multiple times by people much bigger than me (I am average height) because I break their little big boy ego balls too easily. Sadly the apartment I’m moving into is in the middle of a pretty rough area and I don’t have another option. I do believe in owning guns for self defense. After my life was threatened I do believe it is something I want to look into, but I don’t know for sure where to start. I’m not worried about carrying a gun on my person at all times (considering I’m a student), but I would like to have one in my home in case its broken into. I don’t want to have the gun out and about for everyone to see, but I also don’t want it locked behind a facial recognition 36 pin combo fingerprint scanning safe because I would be dead by the time I opened it. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated! Thanks submitted by /u/Realistic_Drummer_48
Wall safe quick access solutions
I keep a M&P 2.0 in a wall safe in my bedroom. Due to the depth of the safe it cannot be laid flat and is awkwardly placed. I’m looking for some sort of door mounted solution to keep it secure. The safe is solid steel and the door has no liner, it’s painted steel. Any suggestions on good, secure solutions that will not slow me down when I need it? An integrated trigger guard would be ideal. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/kenhall22

FN-49 7x57 stripper clip Q's!
So I have a Venezuelan 7x57 Mauser FN-49 and am having trouble finding compatible stripper clips. Currently, I have some SEY marked .308 clips with one "middle lug" that work great but are dull parkerized steel. I even have some Kynoch-manufactured 7x57 on nice nickel-plated original clips but they don't slide down far enough to feed the rounds into the magazine due to the "two lug" / "four nub" design. Internet searches have only netted decade-and-a-half-old forums with little success. So far I've tried Swedish Mauser 6.5mm, Spanish Mauser 7mm, and I believe 7.65 Mauser clips without success. Currently, as of this post, I have seen that maybe 30-06 Mauser style clips may work but they also have the "two-lug" style. Does anyone have any suggestions or other info? Thanks all. submitted by /u/Helstar846

My dad wants to give me his gun
This would be the first gun I’ve (20f) ever owned. It’s a Sig Saur 10mm p320 (I believe). Now he isn’t just going to give it to me willy nilly, I have to learn how to take it apart, clean it, put it back together, learn all the safety precautions, etc etc… anyways, besides all this, I’m a pretty thin girl and it’s literally like a cannon in my hand. Is this a good first gun, or should I buy something a little less powerful? submitted by /u/ExcitingUsual951

Arken EP5 5-25x, Mini Review
Introduction /u/Reloader300WM graciously loaned me his brand new Arken EP5 to play with while he waits on his rifle build. Some of the pictures you will see came from yesterday, some from today. Both days were bright-overcast, and like yesterday, not the best conditions for stressing chromatic aberration, but a good day for testing how light is transmitted. The Optika 6 is the reference optic being compared with because it is sitting on my desk unmounted to any rifle. About Arken Arken is one of the newcomer/startup optic makes that appeared pretty recently. I'm not exactly sure when, but seems like around 2019? This generation of optics companies include other direct-to-consumer sale like Swampfox and Lucid. And like the other two, is very social media savvy, very publicity focused. Also, their main leaders all tilt left for some reason this was a joke you can read on r/longrange with an unsanitized link. Arken Uh-oh I'm not going to accuse Arken of any wrongdoing. It might have been bad actors, it might have been a big misunderstanding. Facts are loose and seemed to be shifting, and with layers of obscurity, I don't have a contract or program details beyond what was public. I'm only stating the facts as I found them through my own research and digging, colored through the lens of someone self-protective of the community and with their best interests at heart. On the r/longrange sub, Arken got into a bit of trouble last year because, besides a suspiciously smelly number of recommendations/reviews suddenly appearing, we found a user very deceptively posting an undisclosed instanced referral link to their optics sales page. One that would tie optic sales and visits to his account. Immediately digging into what that was, it appeared that they had (or have) a promotional 'Gratisfaction Program', but within several days of the mod team publicly announcing their shadow-ban/forced mod review, references to the program vanished off the face of the web as if it were a ghost in the night. Hm. Even as of earlier this year, you could find references on their site to making sure community members had their accounts set up so they could get credit/acknowledgement for their referrals. Seems to allude to the previously more public program, even if it is tough to find it public now. Side note, there is also a 'Gratisfaction' loyalty program app specifically for this type of marketing on a broader scale, but I don't know what connection there was between this an the referral link we saw posted. What they are selling Like their other upstart competitors, the Arken product line is made in China. Supposedly, they use Japanese glass elements. But from who? Japan has several different glass houses offering a wide range of glass from alpha tier to budget tier. Looking at their trading partners on importgenius, their 4 top partners are all chinese companies, the same ties with Vortex, Bushnell, Meade, and Athlon, but none with ties to japanese glass houses. That information doesn't seem to be available, probably because they are a small time scope maker so fall off the list of most important trade partners. The formula is:

Which licenses do I need to purchase historic firearms?
Hey everyone, so I am pretty new to the gun purchasing and owning world. I had a carrying license a great many years ago but it has long since expired. And currently you don't even need a carry license in my state in order to purchase a gun, or at least some guns. But I have gained an interest in historic firearms over the last few years. I am particularly interested in buying a version of the 1912 Steyr Hahn, the Lebel 1886 rifle, a Mk. VI Webley, and many others. And I can't quite seem to figure out which licenses I need in order to buy these firearms. So far I have found conflicting reports on what exactly I need. So my question here is, which licenses do I need? And where do I get them from? Thanks in advance for your time, all help is appreciated. submitted by /u/flamin_shotgun

Seeking zeroing advice - Red dot sight is always far too high (even with max adjustment)
Hi, I recently acquired this Ruger AR-556 (pictured) and I am seeking advice to help me zero my red dot sight. This is my first rifle. I have: - swapped out the stock & grip - added Holosun HS510C - added Magpul bipod I haven’t taken it apart, I believe it is brand new. I took it to the range for the first time recently to zero it - it sounds like a straightforward procedure. My issue though is that my shots are always coming in much lower than where the red dot it. I have been testing it at 25yards, put probably 100 rounds through it. I’ve adjusted the red dot to the lowest point it will go to, but it is still far too high. Can anyone help me understand why this is happening and what I can do to resolve it? Perhaps I should be using a different optic or have it shimmed? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! submitted by /u/dhskiskdferh
