Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady came to the defense of Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee after Kazee was suspended for the remainder of the 2023 season on Monday. The seven-time Super Bowl winner criticized Gardner Minshew's pass rather than the hit by the Steelers defender."Nobody likes seeing players get hurt. But hard hits happen," Brady commented on Sportscenter's Instagram post announcing the suspension. "QBs should not be throwing the ball in areas where they are exposing their own teammates to these types of hits. Coaches need to coach better, QBs needs to read coverages and throw the ball to the right places, and defenders should aim for the right hitting areas."To put the blame on the (defensive) player all the time is just flat-out wrong. Need better QB play! It's not OK QBs to get your WRs hit because of your bad decisions," Brady continued. The NFL suspended Kazee without pay for the rest of the regular season, including any playoff games, for repeated violations of rules protecting players' health and safety, the league announced Monday.Kazee was penalized and ejected from the Steelers' loss Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts after violently hitting receiver Michael Pittman Jr.Pittman walked off the field under his own power before the Colts ruled him out for the rest of the game due to a concussion.

The Kansas City Chiefs' offense will get a boost in Week 16 with the return of running back Isiah Pacheco, head coach Andy Reid announced Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher."He'll be good to go this week unless there's further setback," Reid said. "Right now, everything's positive for him to go, and he really had a clearance last week from the fellow that did the surgery to go, so it was just a matter of being (cautious) on it."Pacheco has been out for the last two weeks because of a shoulder injury that required a cleanup procedure. He had 779 rushing yards and seven total scores before missing time.Kansas City relied upon Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon during Pacheco's absence. The 9-5 Chiefs will play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. A woman got quite the surprise after receiving a picture of Tom Brady inside her photo order from CVS.Katie Tonges, whose brother, Jake, is a tight end on the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad, posted a video Sunday on TikTok explaining how her mother had given CVS a family photo to be printed out as a Christmas present for their grandma. However, her mom was mistakingly given a photo of Brady posing with his three children instead.Brady, a native of San Mateo, California, found out about the mishap and left a comment saying his mom must have been printing photos in San Francisco. Tonges replied, suggesting they swap the photos next time the future Hall of Famer is in town. Brady's photo appears to have been taken during the New England Patriots' season opener at Gillette Stadium in September, when he was honored by his former team in a ceremony at halftime.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Atlanta Falcons might be making another change at quarterback.Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said Monday he's undecided on who'll be his starter for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.Atlanta's playoff hopes took a major hit in Week 15 after losing 9-7 to the Carolina Panthers, who'd previously won just one game. The Falcons fell to 6-8 and now just have a 7% chance of making the postseason, according to The New York Times' playoff simulator.Second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder struggled in the defeat, throwing for just 152 yards and one touchdown against one interception.Ridder has already been benched once this season for Taylor Heinicke, who stepped in from Weeks 8-10 before ceding the job back to Ridder.Smith is seemingly on the hot seat as he comes to the end of his third campaign in charge of the Falcons. The coach has gone 20-28 with zero playoff appearances or winning seasons.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

With a Christmas tripleheader falling on the first day of the work week this year, the Seahawks-Eagles game is the final true Monday Night Football matchup. Those of us who are superstitious can now feel comfortable celebrating a successful effort on weekly finales, no matter what might happen in Seattle to keep us up at night.BET TYPERESULTS (Net)Side/Total10-5-1 (+4.5 units)Player prop13-8 (+4.2 units)Touchdown prop7-3 (+5.9 units)TOTAL30-16-1 (+14.6 units)There's a looming question before the Eagles take on the Seahawks, and it's kind of a big one - Who will start at quarterback for each team? It's an important issue for handicapping any football game, especially one that could decide each club's path to and through the playoffs.Eagles @ Seahawks (+3, 45)If you took the Seahawks at +4 early last week, you've done good work potentially securing closing line value (CLV). This line is down to Eagles -3 because there's a bigger perceived drop-off from Jalen Hurts to Marcus Mariota than from Geno Smith to Drew Lock. However, we'll likely see another move if one team gets the green light for its starter and the other has to turn to its backup.Let's look at how the point spread might shake down with the various quarterback matchups:STARTING QUARTERBACKPROJECTED LINEHurts vs. SmithPHI -3Hurts vs. LockPHI -5.5Mariota vs. SmithPHI -1Mariota vs. LockPHI -3Considering what a common winning margin the number three is in football, the most likely singular result, no matter who starts, is Philadelphia winning by three points. That's why sportsbooks are willing to set the point spread at Eagles -3 without certainty about who's starting, as it would be a fair line with two of the four quarterback permutations. As we await quarterback news, let that theory guide the way, betting on whichever side allows us to capture the key number of three. The ideal situation is that Hurts playing moves the line to 3.5 or higher. The total has also moved with the starting quarterback uncertainty, dropping from as high as 48 down to 45. Over the last three games, the Eagles' and Seahawks' defenses rank among the five worst in yards per play. Philadelphia is without Darius Slay and Zach Cunningham, the latter forcing the team to rely on rookie Nolan Smith and newly-acquired Shaq Leonard - whom the Colts cut midseason.Pick: Seahawks (at +3.5 or better)D'Andre Swift: Over 57.5 rushing yardsThe Seahawks' defense has started to revert to last year when they couldn't stop the run under any circumstances. Only the Cardinals have allowed more yards per attempt (5.3) than Seattle over the previous three games. Whether an under-the-weather Hurts plays or Mariota has to run the Eagles' offense, they'll lean on D'Andre Swift to control the game and keep their defense off the field in Seattle.Philadelphia getting blown out in its last two contests has limited Swift's usage, but that shouldn't be the game state Monday night. A projection of 5 yards per carry isn't out of the question, and Swift should be fresh enough for 12-plus carries and more than 60 yards.Jaxon Smith-Njigba: Anytime touchdown (+210)The middle of the field has been wide open against the Eagles' defense lately. Jake Ferguson and CeeDee Lamb took advantage of Philadelphia by lining up in the slot in Week 14. George Kittle and Deebo Samuel did the same in Week 13, and Dalton Kincaid and Khalil Shakir did it the week before that. With the Seahawks getting so little production from their tight end position and Jaxon Smith-Njigba's increase in involvement (season-high 18 targets in the last two games), he's an undervalued candidate to take advantage of a thinning Eagles' secondary.Matt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore. The Cowboys fell to 3-4 in road games this season after a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, leaving linebacker Micah Parsons exasperated and confused by his team's struggles."Honestly, it's unacceptable at this point," said Parsons, according to team reporter Patrick Walker. "There's no excuse for it. It's mind-boggling, and I don't understand why we're not playing well and why we're not coming together on the road. (It's) something we need to look at and get better at because we're back on the road next week."Dallas leads the NFL with a plus-171 point differential when playing at home at AT&T Stadium but owns a minus-4 mark when away. While the Cowboys clinched a playoff berth thanks to losses by the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers on Sunday, their chances of winning the NFC East dropped to just 27%, according to The New York Times' playoff simulator. That number could fall further with the Philadelphia Eagles still to play Monday night. With the chances of earning a first-round bye also greatly diminished, Dallas fixing its road issues becomes even more important."It's a huge difference, and, really, that's what these next couple weeks are about - is figuring out that difference and trying to close that gap," said quarterback Dak Prescott. "We want to come out and start how we do at home, and that's just not been the case."We've gotta find out what those answers are. ... We can't be two different teams: winning at home against a good team last week and then come out here today and not get anything done in all three phases."The Cowboys face another stiff road test in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins and finish the regular season playing at the Washington Commanders.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Sunday Rundown recaps the most important developments from the day's action and examines their significance moving forward.Bills are officially back Rich Barnes / Getty Images Sport / GettyThe Bills beating the Cowboys shouldn't be all that surprising. This team was always a whole lot better than its record suggested, and traveling across the country to play in Buffalo will never be an easy task.Teams around the NFL should be taking notice after this one, though. Not only did the Bills dominate from start to finish, but they did so with Josh Allen accounting for a mere 94 passing yards on seven completions. Soak it in, Bills fans - they're running the ball.James Cook led the way with the biggest and most productive workload of his young career, taking 25 carries for 179 yards. That's the most rushing yards for a Buffalo running back since Fred Jackson in 2012. With Allen, Ty Johnson, and Latavius Murray also chipping in, the Bills finished the day with 266 rushing yards - their highest team total since 2016.Before you credit the run game entirely to new offensive coordinator Joe Brady, it's important to note that the rushing attack has quietly been a force throughout this season. After consistent issues in 2022 that culminated in a snowy playoff loss to the Bengals, the Bills found a way to run the ball better from the outset of this season.Ken Dorsey was actually leading an offense that ranked first in rush success rate and second in EPA/rush over the first 10 weeks of the season, according to Ben Baldwin's database. Credit where it's due - this has been in the works for a while. But if a play-caller change was the key to unlocking some added flexibility, and a willingness to go full Run Mode where necessary, so be it. It's hard to argue with the results.Forget the seemingly pedestrian record. Buffalo is going to be in the playoffs, and this version of the Bills can win however they need to win. That malleability was sorely missing in previous years.Nobody wants to meet this team in January.MVPurdy? Cooper Neill / Getty Images Sport / GettyIt's time to accept it.I've never been all that interested in the Brock Purdy MVP narrative. Several candidates around the league do more to elevate their respective teams, and you could make the argument that there are at least two more "valuable" players on the 49ers offense alone. But the numbers are what they are. At a time when the league's elite quarterbacks are failing to separate themselves from the pack, we should all be getting used to the idea of Purdy doing the unthinkable.Sunday's 45-point outing against the Cardinals was the latest in a long line of near flawless performances from the 49ers quarterback. Purdy now has three games with four-plus touchdowns and no interceptions. No other QB has more than one this season. With three games to go, the sophomore signal-caller is completing 70% of his passes, averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt, and throwing a league-best 29 touchdowns. If you find yourself yelling for context on those numbers, I'm with you. I'd give the nod to either Dak Prescott, Tyreek Hill, or Lamar Jackson. Even Purdy thinks Christian McCaffrey should be this year's MVP. But voters likely aren't going to feel the same way. And maybe they're right.Purdy maintaining his current production while leading the 49ers to the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs could very well wrap this thing up. At that point, we can discuss whether there's ever been a more surprising MVP winner.Falcons gonna Falcon Jared C. Tilton / Getty Images Sport / GettyEvery football fan knows what it's like to have your team let you down. Being so regularly disappointed that you can feel it coming is a little more of a unique experience. Nobody understands that quite like Falcons fans. This team should, at the very least, be a fun one. Three consecutive first-round picks allocated to skill positions have given this offense an exciting core of playmakers. While you can argue with the value in a few of those selections, there's no denying the talent now in place. With an offensive mind overseeing the operation, the Falcons should have no problem scoring points. Yet, here we are, with a 9-7 loss to the 1-12 Panthers handing Atlanta a devastating blow in the NFC playoff race. How did the Falcons' first-round playmakers fair against the worst team in football? Glad you asked.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson announced quarterback Trevor Lawrence entered the concussion protocol following Sunday night's 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.Pederson added postgame that Lawrence was placed in the protocol due to a hit received in the fourth quarter, per Mia O'Brien of 1010XL.Lawrence and the Jaguars' offense struggled during the Week 15 prime-time loss, totaling just one scoring drive. The 24-year-old completed 25 of his 43 pass attempts for 264 yards with one touchdown to zero interceptions plus 41 yards on the ground. He finished with an 83.9 passer rating. The 2021 No. 1 pick has been banged up this month. San Francisco 49ers Brock Purdy says the NFL MVP plays for his team, but he believes the award should go to teammate Christian McCaffrey."I think Christian should be MVP," Purdy said after Sunday's 45-29 win over the Arizona Cardinals, according to NFL Network's Omar Ruiz. "I really do believe that. He does everything for us, runs the ball well, catches the ball, he does everything. So, in my eyes, that's an MVP."Purdy, who has been among the leading favorites for the prestigious honor, enjoyed a four-touchdown day against the Cardinals. However, it was McCaffrey who stole the show. The star running back compiled 187 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. The two-time Pro Bowler has now totaled 1,801 yards from scrimmage and 20 total touchdowns. When asked to assess himself as an MVP candidate, Purdy shifted the praise back on his teammates."I'm honored," Purdy said. "Great team around me and guys willing to make plays, so I'm trying to do my part and help our team win."Purdy has thrown for 17 touchdowns to two interceptions over the last six games, all wins for the 49ers.San Francisco moved to 11-3 on Sunday and clinched a second consecutive NFC West title.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Derrick Henry acknowledged for the first time Sunday that his time as a member of the Tennessee Titans could come to an end after the season."Yeah, definitely today you had that feeling (that it could be the end)," the star running back said, according to ESPN's Turron Davenport. "I had hope of kind of slipping in (the playoffs), and then being eliminated with three games left. I've been here my whole career. Definitely wanted to go out strong, which that isn't the case."The Titans pulled off a thrilling comeback victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 14 to keep their season alive. However, a 19-16 overtime defeat to the Houston Texans in Week 15 officially eliminated Henry and Co. from the playoff race.Henry is coming off arguably his worst performance with Tennessee, carrying the ball 16 times for only 9 yards versus Houston. The 29-year-old also caught four passes for 1 yard, becoming the first player in NFL history to have 20-plus touches in a game and produce less than 15 scrimmage yards, according to DLF's Ryan McDowell."We weren't great today as a whole," Henry said, per Davenport. "They were the better team today. The credit goes to them. It seemed like they had an answer for everything."Henry's contract expires at the end of the season. The Titans used a Day 2 pick in this year's draft on a running back, selecting Tyjae Spears in the third round. Spears has racked up 82 carries for 388 yards and one touchdown on the ground to go along with 288 yards on 40 receptions this year.Meanwhile, Henry entered Week 15 with 875 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing in 2023. His 4.1 yards per attempt is the lowest Henry has averaged in a campaign since entering the NFL as a second-round pick in 2016.Henry led the NFL in carries, rushing yards, and TD runs in 2019 and 2020. The Alabama product posted one of the greatest seasons ever at running back and became the eighth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single campaign in 2020. He was named Offensive Player of the Year that season.Tennessee's all-time rushing touchdown leader, Henry also had a league-high 349 rushing attempts in 2022.The 5-9 Titans are also expected to part ways with veteran Ryan Tannehill at the end of the season and move forward with Will Levis at quarterback.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles revealed Sunday that his decision to make Devin White a healthy scratch in Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers came after the linebacker informed the team that he wasn't available."We made him inactive based on him saying he couldn't go today," Bowles said after a 34-20 victory over the Packers, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.White missed Weeks 13 and 14 due to a foot injury. He was originally listed as questionable for the Packers matchup but was a full participant at practice on Thursday and Friday."That's probably a question for him, but I'm sure he'd say his foot was sore," Bowles answered Sunday when asked if White said he couldn't play because of his injury. "But he told me he couldn't go so we played the guys we had to play."K.J. The Steelers' playoff hopes dwindled further with a 30-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, and head coach Mike Tomlin shouldered the blame for Pittsburgh's recent poor run of form."Let's be honest. We're a fundamentally poor football group right now," Tomlin said, according to NFL.com's Bobby Kownack. "We're playing losing football. I take responsibility for that. By losing football, I mean we're just not doing fundamental things well enough. We're not. We're turning the ball over. We're highly penalized. We don't play good in situations. So, I'm just acknowledging that."Pittsburgh dropped to 7-7 after losing its fourth game in the last five weeks.Despite firing much-maligned offensive coordinator Matt Canada a month ago, the Steelers' offense has remained one of the NFL's worst. Pittsburgh averaged just 12.75 points in its four recent defeats and scored just one offensive touchdown against the Colts.Tomlin acknowledged that he still isn't sure how to get the AFC North club back on track."I don't necessarily have the answers as we sit here today," the coach said. "If I had the answers, we would've played differently today."The Steelers' odds of making the postseason dropped to 10% with the loss to the Colts and the Cincinnati Bengals' overtime win over the Minnesota Vikings earlier Saturday, according to The New York Times' playoff simulator. Their chances could drop as low as 4% if other AFC contenders, notably the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, win Sunday.Tomlin - who has never had a losing season in his 17 years in charge of Pittsburgh - promised that "everything's on the table" regarding changes to save the team's campaign.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is likely to be medically cleared for next week's game against the Washington Commanders, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. While Rodgers could receive clearance from the Achilles injury he suffered in the season opener, the star passer isn't guaranteed to be in the lineup for the Week 16 matchup.Rodgers and the team will discuss whether or not he ultimately returns to action. Much of the decision could come down to the result of Sunday's divisional game against the Miami Dolphins and if the Jets have a chance at making the postseason, per Schefter.New York must activate Rodgers from injured reserve before Wednesday if he wants to take another snap this season. The Jets opened his 21-day practice window on Nov. 29. He could also be activated this week but remain a spectator, per Schefter. The four-time MVP passer understands that he won't be fully healthy until after the season but is willing to play if the Jets are in the playoff hunt. Rodgers said it wouldn't "make a ton of sense" for him to return if the team is mathematically eliminated from the postseason. The Jets could be eliminated with a loss to the Dolphins on Sunday and a win by either the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, or Buffalo Bills.Head coach Robert Saleh said that the 40-year-old Rodgers looked "normal" during the team's practice on Friday.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Cincinnati Bengals star receiver Ja'Marr Chase sustained an AC joint sprain in Saturday's win over the Minnesota Vikings and will undergo further testing, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Chase exited the contest with 0:39 remaining in the fourth quarter. He was listed as questionable to return before being ruled out after the game entered overtime.Chase finished the game with four receptions for 64 yards. The fate of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick isn't sealed with four games remaining in the regular season.Team owner Robert Kraft has not come to a firm conclusion on what will happen next regarding New England's head coaching position, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. How New England finishes the season will play a factor in Belichick's future, per Rapoport. The Patriots were rumored to be leaning toward not keeping the 71-year-old Belichick after the 2023 season. It was believed that New England made the decision to move on from the Super Bowl-winning coach following a 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in November. The Patriots (3-10) are looking for back-to-back wins after taking down the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14 to end a five-game losing skid. A victory against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday would give New England two straight wins for the first time since Week 5 and 6 of its 2022 campaign. While the outcome of the final leg of the season will play a role in the fate of Belichick, a final decision may not occur until well after the regular season.Belichick shrugged off questions about his future with the organization this past week, opting to focus on New England's upcoming matchup."Getting ready for Kansas City," Belichick said.Belichick has won six Super Bowls while at the helm of the Patriots and is third in league history with 301 victories.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. The Houston Texans will start veteran quarterback Case Keenum against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday while standout rookie C.J. Stroud sits out with a concussion, reports NFL Network's James Palmer.Davis Mills appeared to be the leading candidate to start after relieving an injured Stroud in Week 14. Keenum, 35, hasn't taken a single snap in 2023 while planted behind Stroud and Mills on the depth chart. The Texans are in third place in the AFC South, but they're only one game behind the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts in the win column. Houston is on the fringe of the playoff picture with four weeks left in the NFL regular season.Keenum possesses plenty of experience but has started only two games since the 2019 season. Mills, on the other hand, has started 26 contests since the Texans drafted him in the third round in 2021.Houston ruled out Stroud - the front-runner for the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award - on Saturday. Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. was ruled out of Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after leaving with a concussion.Pittman remained on the ground for some time after taking a devastating hit from Steelers defensive back Damontae Kazee, who was given a personal foul for unnecessary roughness and ejected from the game.Indianapolis is dealing with injuries to multiple starters. Running back Zack Moss, who was anchoring the backfield with Jonathan Taylor absent, was ruled out after suffering an arm injury in the first half. He totaled 33 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown before leaving the game.Pittman was attempting to make a diving catch on a pass from Gardner Minshew. The 26-year-old was able to walk off the field under his own power after being attended to by medical personnel. He then made his way to the locker room for further evaluation. The Colts' leading pass-catcher made four receptions for 78 yards before leaving the game. D.J. The NFL delivered a sizeable punishment to the Kansas City Chiefs following comments that were made in the aftermath of their Week 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.Head coach Andy Reid was fined $100,000 for violating the league rules on public criticism of game officials, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was fined $50,000 as a result of unsportsmanlike conduct for abusive, threatening, or insulting language to league officials, and violating the league's policy on criticism of officiating crews.Reid criticized the officials after the game, saying that they usually give a warning to receivers if they're lined up incorrectly.Officials ruled that Chiefs wideout Kadarius Toney was offside on a potential game-winning touchdown with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Kansas City was unable to sustain the subsequent drive and went on to lose 20-17.Mahomes was visibly angry after the Chiefs' final offensive series. The reigning MVP shared his displeasure with the officiating crew in a discussion with opposing quarterback Josh Allen and in his postgame media availability. Both Reid and Mahomes walked back their postgame comments in the days following the defeat."Obviously, you don't want to react that way," Mahomes said on Tuesday. Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud won't play against the Tennessee Titans this week, the team announced Saturday. The rookie sensation left last Sunday's loss to the New York Jets after suffering a concussion in the fourth quarter. He didn't practice this week or travel with the team as he's yet to clear the NFL's protocol."He's just getting back healthy," Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans said of Stroud on Friday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. "That's the main thing, him getting back healthy."Davis Mills will presumably replace Stroud under center for the Texans, who also roster veteran Case Keenum. Mills - a third-round pick in 2021 - has 26 starts under his belt.Stroud's absence is a big blow to the 7-6 Texans. They're currently the No. 8 seed in the AFC and haven't made the playoffs since 2019.The Ohio State product has taken the NFL by storm since being drafted second overall in April. The front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Stroud's completed 62.4% of his passes for 3,631 yards and 20 touchdowns against five interceptions this season. He's also added three scores on the ground.Stroud isn't the only key Texans player slated to miss Sunday's game. Rookie pass-rusher Will Anderson Jr. and linebacker Blake Cashman have also been ruled out due to ankle and hamstring injuries, respectively. Wide receiver Nico Collins, who left last week's game early with a calf ailment, is listed as questionable.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn't losing sleep over a potentially massive contract extension for Dak Prescott. When asked earlier this week about Prescott's price tag increasing amid his MVP-caliber season, Jones said he doesn't worry about it."That function has a lot of things to think about, but that's not one to think about," Jones said on Wednesday, according to team writer Nick Harris. "Just like I didn't spend any time thinking about what his price tag would be if he didn't play well."Through 13 games this season, Prescott has completed 69.3% of his passes for 3,505 yards with a league-high 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions. The Cowboys sit in first place in the NFC East and are tied for the best record in the NFL at 10-3 with four games to go."I just want (Prescott) to be a part of having the team to be a Super Bowl quarterback," Jones said. "The idea of him not being our quarterback hasn't crossed my mind. I'm here like everybody else wanting him to be the Most Valuable Player in the NFL. We're trying to win the Super Bowl and we have a better chance at winning it with him at quarterback playing at that level."Prescott, 30, has one campaign remaining on the four-year, $160-million contract he signed with the Cowboys in 2021. The war of attrition that is the NFL season is slowly winding down, injury issues are piling up, and the schedule is packed with wonky matchups. So, while we'll still pepper some player props throughout Weeks 16-18, this is the final edition of our 10 best props for Sunday (and Saturday) in a last chance to improve a record that's barely above .500.Jake Browning: Under 229.5 passing yardsTurning around the Vikings' defense seemed like it'd be some sort of miracle, but Brian Flores has done it. He started by blitzing at an alarming rate, taking advantage of lesser quarterbacks and making teams like the Bears and Raiders look completely non-functional. Jake Browning racked up good numbers against the Jaguars (24th in yards per pass attempt allowed) and Colts (23rd), but the Vikings (T-9th) are getting better by the week.Najee Harris: Under 53.5 rushing yardsSurely new play-caller Mike Sullivan has noticed Najee Harris isn't the most efficient way to attack the Colts' defense. He's averaging just 3.25 yards per carry in Pittsburgh's last two games. Indy, which averaged 4.7 YPC allowed during Grover Stewart's six-game PED suspension, surrendered just 3.5 YPC after he returned last week. Harris would need 16 carries to top 53.5 rushing yards with that average, but the Steelers' best avenue to move the ball is using their perimeter playmakers.Bryce Young: Over 188.5 passing + rushing yardsThe Panthers return home after three straight road games to take on the Falcons. Atlanta's defense has been mediocre at best this season, and now the group is missing between three and five core defenders from its lineup. Bryce Young should be able to accumulate more than 200 total yards this Sunday.DeAndre Hopkins: Over 59.5 receiving yardsWill Levis has found DeAndre Hopkins deep in five of his seven starts since taking over at quarterback for the Titans. He also targeted him a dozen times each in Weeks 13 and 14. Whether Hopkins picks up chunk yardage or submits the Texans' shaky pass defense (30th in YPA allowed) to death by a thousand paper cuts, this number is too short.Ezekiel Elliott: Under 84.5 rushing + receiving yardsEzekiel Elliott turned back the clock last Thursday, racking up 140 scrimmage yards against the Steelers. The Chiefs have the off-ball linebackers capable of defending any danger out of the backfield with Nick Bolton back and Drue Tranquill expected to return Sunday. The Patriots are underdogs of more than a touchdown, so don't expect Zeke to run out the clock as he did last week.Baker Mayfield: Under 31.5 pass attemptsRachaad White has quietly become a dangerous fantasy football option, putting up 351 yards from scrimmage in his last three games. As a result, the Buccaneers' offense no longer relies on Baker Mayfield throwing the ball with abandon. The Packers' run defense allows the 28th-most yards per carry, so Mayfield should continue his recent trend of attempting 30 or fewer passes in five of his last six games.George Kittle: Under 46.5 receiving yardsOnly two teams have given up fewer yards (36.9) to opposing tight ends than the Cardinals. George Kittle is one of the best at his position in the NFL, but he's occasionally not used in the passing game. Against Arizona in Week 4, he caught his lone target for nine yards.Terry McLaurin: Over 57.5 receiving yardsThe Commanders needed a bye week like we need air to breathe. Getting some time to figure out how to get their best player more than three targets should bode well for Terry McLaurin. His yardage total is more commonly in the 60s, and without Brian Robinson, there's no reason for Washington to even pretend to want to run the football.Rico Dowdle: Over 16.5 rushing yardsRico Dowdle has averaged 23.6 rushing yards per game in his 13 contests played. He was also prominent in the Cowboys' biggest game of the season with 12 carries against the Eagles. Only two teams have allowed more yards per rush this year than Buffalo. If the Cowboys take a conservative approach on the road, Dowdle should see more than enough carries to get over a short number.Isaiah Likely: Over 3.5 receptions (+120) / 33.5 receiving yardsLet's finish up with a two-for-one. Isaiah Likely's snap share went up from the mid-20s to the mid-70s when Mark Andrews went out with a season-ending injury. In his two starts since, he's caught nine passes on 13 targets for 123 yards. This aligns with last campaign when Likely was the No. 1 tight end, catching 14 of 20 targets for 180 yards across two games. There's no reason he can't have another nice night against Jacksonville, which allows the second-most yards per catch to tight ends.Matt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore. There are only four weeks left in the NFL regular season. Playoff races and divisional battles are heating up, with most teams still technically in the hunt.Totals continue to be down as backup quarterbacks get reps under center throughout the league. Let's dive into our best total bets for Week 15.Jets @ Dolphins: Over 37.5 pointsThe Dolphins took a brutal loss Monday night after leading by two touchdowns with three minutes to go in the fourth quarter. They should be extra motivated against a division rival this weekend as they fight for playoff seeding. They had won three straight before last week, and their offense is still clicking. There was a noticeable drop-off, however, once Tyreek Hill left the game with an ankle injury. His status for this week is still uncertain. But even if he can't play, a week to prepare for his absence is much easier than having to adjust on the fly.The Dolphins are averaging 31.6 points per game and could reach this total by themselves on Sunday. They hung 34 on the Jets the last time they played on Nov. 24. The Jets' offense also looked much better with Zach Wilson last week, as New York dominated the Texans 30-6.Whether that was an anomaly or the expected norm down the stretch of the season remains to be seen, but Miami has a bottom-third scoring defense, so New York could have some offensive success for the second straight week.Cowboys @ Bills: Over 50.5 pointsThis should be an offensive clinic Sunday afternoon in Buffalo between two of the NFL's hottest teams. The Bills are desperate for every win as they make a playoff push in the final weeks of the season. The Cowboys also need to win out with a brutal schedule for a better chance at the NFC's No. 1 seed and the division crown. The Cowboys have the league's best scoring offense, and the Bills have the fifth-best. The over hits in 61% of Cowboys' games. The total could soar over this number with both offenses playing lights out.Cardinals team total: Under 16.5 pointsThere's no question the Cardinals' offense has made strides with Kyler Murray under center after a disastrous start to the season. However, it's still a bottom-tier offense that'll enter the offseason with pressing questions - including ones concerning Murray's future. While they did score 24 points against a stout Steelers defense last week, Pittsburgh's offense is so incompetent that it constantly puts its defense in difficult situations. The Cardinals have failed to score more than 16 points in three of their last five games. They're playing the 49ers this week, unquestionably the NFL's best team. San Francisco will enter Arizona as a 12-point favorite. The 49ers have the NFL's best scoring defense, allowing 15.8 points per game to opponents. It should be a rout and a slow day for Arizona's offense.Sam Oshtry is a sports betting writer at theScore. Detroit Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that he plans to retire after the 2023 season.Bridgewater, 31, added that he hopes to coach high school football after hanging up his cleats. The Louisville product spent the first four years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted No. 32 in 2014. As if there weren't enough injuries to parse through every week, Geno Smith had to tweak his groin shortly after we published Week 14's best bets. Hopefully, you enjoyed a full sweep from top to bottom and bet on the Seahawks after that information was released, with the line moving from +12.5 to +15.You get the cash in your account, but we'll stick to the letter of the law and grade that game as a loss. That's easier to do considering how well the season has gone at 78-51-4 (60.4%) against the spread.BET TYPE RECORD (Net)Best bets ATS37-22-4 (+12.9 units)Underdogs ATS41-29 (+9.1 units)Upset of the week4-10 (-2.25 units)Teaser/ML parlay7-7 (-1.4 units)Best bets ATSWe've already discussed the five underdogs with a shot to win outright relative to their price, and as always, they're worth a look against the spread.TEAMSPREADBroncos+4.5Panthers+3Jets+8.5Giants+6Commanders+6.5However, there are more plays worth making this week.Steelers @ Colts (-1.5, 42.5)I've been looking for someone to make the case for the Steelers beyond saying something about the "spot" or "Mike Tomlin's motivational tactics." Maybe Pittsburgh's head coach gets the best effort out of his team with things looking as dire as they've been all season, but they would need an incredible jump in production from Mitch Trubisky.Trubisky finished last year with four touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 58.5 QBR in seven games. He's followed that up with a 35.3 QBR in four appearances this season. Maybe Trubisky's best game is coming with a few days of extra prep time, but what would that look like? Here are Trubisky's best two statistical starts last campaign:GAMESTATS@CIN (Week 1)21/38 / 194 YDS / 1 TD / 0 INT@CAR (Week 15)17/22 / 179 YDS / 0 TD / 0 INTAdmittedly, the Steelers won both those contests, but it was on the strength of a defense that forced five Joe Burrow turnovers and held the Sam Darnold-led Panthers to 21 rushing yards. Gardner Minshew hasn't lit the world on fire, but we should be able to expect a better effort from the Colts. And if Pittsburgh had more to give, it would have been better served to do so when losing home games to the Cardinals and Patriots inside five days.Pick: Colts (-1.5)Bears @ Browns (-3, 38.5)You usually want to bet the Browns back at home because their opponents are often uncomfortable with the lakeside winter conditions while dealing with a loaded Cleveland defense and dominant offensive line. However, few teams are as familiar with that environment as the Bears, and injuries are piling up for the Browns.Safety Grant Delpit has hit the injured reserve and leaves a secondary that has Denzel Ward and Juan Thornhill at risk of not playing the entire game. And though not on the injury report, Myles Garrett's done little since hurting his shoulder three weeks ago, with Cleveland allowing 32 points per game over that stretch. Also, both offensive tackles being on IR has affected the Browns' run game, and Chicago has a good run defense.Pick: Bears (+3)49ers @ Cardinals (+12, 47.5)There isn't much of a case to be made against the 49ers other than their historically competitive valuation in the betting markets being near-impossible to match every week. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are coming off a win and a bye, so there's reason to believe they should play to the high end of their range.Arizona got blown out at home by the Rams a few weeks ago, a rarity with a healthy Kyler Murray. San Francisco outgained Seattle by four yards per play and still won by only 12 points last week. It's hard to blow out an NFL team, and the Cardinals trailed by just five points going into the fourth quarter in their previous matchup versus the 49ers. Even if the game is out of hand, the backdoor should be open against a San Fran defense peppering the injury report.Pick: Cardinals (+12)Ravens @ Jaguars (+3.5, 42.5)There's optimism in Duval County about an injury report that's looking better than in recent weeks. But while Trevor Lawrence played last week, he didn't look right. You don't want to face the Ravens' defense with compromised mobility.Like their Week 10 home matchup versus San Francisco, we'll fade the Jaguars in a step-up in weight class since cracks are starting to show in Jacksonville's defense. Baltimore's offense is also on the uptick, with over six yards per play over its last three games.Pick: Ravens (-3.5)Moneyline upset of the weekGiants (+220) over SaintsThe final scores weren't close, but the Saints' wins over bad teams at home might be hiding their vulnerability as a favorite. Bryce Young and Tyson Bagent outgained New Orleans as decent-sized underdogs, and the Saints got blown out by the Buccaneers as 4.5-point favorites earlier this campaign. An NFL season features waves of good and bad stretches, and confidence is the difference-maker. The Giants have that right now, making them the best bet to pull off a big upset this week.Best 6-point teaser / Moneyline parlayChiefs -2.5 / Cowboys +8Should we dare the Patriots to hang with the Chiefs? Sure. How about daring the Bills to beat the Cowboys convincingly? Absolutely. At this point in the season, we'll want to tease games where the line makes the most sense. The market won't allow the Chiefs to get down to -7, nor will it let the Cowboys settle at +3, so we're getting the best possible value on a 6-point teaser.Matt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore. The Los Angeles Chargers fired head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco, the team announced Friday. The move comes one day after a 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders dropped the Chargers to 5-9 on the season. Staley accumulated a 24-24 record with Los Angeles, and Telesco had been GM since 2013."These decisions are never easy, nor are they something I take lightly - especially when you consider the number of people they impact," Chargers owner and chairman of the board Dean Spanos said in a statement. "We are clearly not where we expect to be, however, and we need new vision. Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take. Our fans have stood strong through so many ups and downs and close games. They deserve more."Outside linebackers coach Giff Smith is taking over as interim head coach, while JoJo Wooden replaces Telesco as interim general manager.Smith has been a defensive coach with the team since 2016. Wooden was hired in 2013 and held the title of director of player personnel in 2023.Los Angeles is on pace for its worst record since Staley became head coach. The team has lost five of its last six games after a 4-4 start.Telesco hired Staley to replace Anthony Lynn in January 2021. He was the defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams in 2020 under Sean McVay and worked as a linebackers coach for the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears before joining the Rams.Staley helped the Rams rank first in yards per game allowed in 2020 and was vital to the their playoff run, where they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round. However, he was unable to replicate his defensive success with the Chargers.Since Staley's arrival, the Chargers' defense ranks 27th in EPA per play, per Ben Baldwin's database. Staley has never had a top-20 scoring unit in Los Angeles. After Staley's first season, the Chargers went on a defensive spending spree. They signed cornerback J.C. Jackson to a massive five-year, $82.5 million deal and traded for edge-rusher Khalil Mack. Jackson's tenure with Los Angeles was a disaster, as he was benched multiple times and was ultimately traded to the New England Patriots in October. The Chargers have the third-most expensive defense in the NFL in 2023, according to Over The Cap.Staley inherited quarterback Justin Herbert, who was entering his second season after a tremendous rookie campaign. He hired quarterbacks coach Shane Day and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi to work with Herbert. Both were fired after the team blew a 27-7 halftime lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2022 wild-card round. Many criticized the pair for failing to maximize Herbert's potential. He ranked 33rd out of 37 quarterbacks in air yards per attempt during their tenure.Chargers ownership and Telesco decided to keep Staley and allow him to bring in new offensive coaches for 2023. The club hired Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator and Doug Nussmeier as the quarterbacks coach. Los Angeles ranks 16th in points per game, a worse mark than the previous two seasons.Telesco finishes his Chargers tenure with an 84-92 record. The 51-year-old was previously vice president of football operations for the Indianapolis Colts. The Chargers made the playoffs three times during Telesco's tenure, going 2-3 and failing to make it past the divisional round. He selected Herbert sixth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft after a 5-11 campaign in 2019.Herbert did not play in Thursday's contest, as the 25-year-old signal-caller suffered a season-ending finger injury in Week 14. There would never be a wager to make if we always agreed with oddsmakers' betting lines, and what's the fun in that?I posted my guess on what the point spreads will be for all six games on Wild Card Weekend in our final NFL betting market report this season, four weeks away from knowing the matchups. It's a fun exercise to use estimated market ratings to start thinking about the playoff picture down the stretch. The intrepid oddsmakers over at theScore Bet and ESPN BET have posted their lookahead lines, which are available for betting. Interestingly, there are some discrepancies!NFC 5th Seed @ NFC 4th Seed RUSSELL'S LINEODDSMAKERS' LINE4-Seed (-6)4-Seed (-4.5)We'll start with a game that's relatively easy to project. The NFC's No. 5 seed will be either the Eagles or the Cowboys. However, with Philadelphia still -300 to win the NFC East, it's more likely to be Dallas.Lately, the Cowboys' rating has moved past the Eagles', so Dallas may be perceived as the better team between the two. The Cowboys are considered to be much better than last year when they were -3 at Tampa Bay. This year, they'll take on whichever NFC South team - potentially the Buccaneers for a rematch - keeps their head above water long enough to win the division. The Saints, Falcons, and Bucs are all rated virtually the same, so the point spread shouldn't change regardless of the opponent. The last of this trio to host a contender was the Saints (+4.5) against Detroit two weeks ago. The Cowboys are better than the Lions, so I'd bet that the NFC East runner-up opens higher than -4.5 in mid-January, making the 4-seed worth a small bet now.AFC 5th Seed @ AFC 4th SeedRUSSELL'S LINEODDSMAKERS' LINE4-Seed (-4.5)4-Seed (-4.5)We're both in line with the AFC's 5-4 matchup. The Jaguars (-500 to win the AFC South) are the appropriate assumption as the fourth seed after two straight losses, and they're underdogs to Baltimore this weekend. If you work ESPN's Playoff Machine, the highly rated AFC East runner-up - Buffalo or Miami - rarely qualifies for the 5-seed. Instead, Cleveland and Denver show up in that spot quite frequently. The Browns and Broncos, along with fellow wild-card hopefuls Pittsburgh, Indy, and Houston, are all rated within an eyelash of each other. While the line is fair, any of the teams mentioned above would be a decent look as 4.5-point underdogs in Jacksonville. So, betting on the 5-seed (+4.5) now is the play.AFC 6th Seed @ AFC 3rd SeedRUSSELL'S LINEODDSMAKERS' LINE3-Seed(-9.5)3-Seed (-6.5)We can agree that the AFC South winner will likely be the 4-seed, leaving the Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, and Dolphins as the candidates to populate the top three. Pick whichever team you like from that group and picture them hosting one of the Browns, Broncos, Steelers, Colts, or Texans. I'd gladly give 6.5 points to any of those wild-card clubs at home with a top-tier team in the AFC.There are a pair of caveats to this game's discrepancy. The first is that my actual projections come out to -8.5. However, since I'm trying to predict what the number will be a month from now, I'm guessing sportsbooks that allow for teasers would bump that to 9.5 to protect against using a 6-point teaser to take the line under a field goal. The second is that there are some scenarios where the AFC East runner-up gets the 6-seed. If that's the case, you'll get a line very close to what we saw in Week 14 when the Chiefs were just -1.5 at home to Buffalo. If 6.5 points is just an average of the two prevailing options, that's a mistake.NFC 6th Seed @ NFC 3rd SeedRUSSELL'S LINEODDSMAKERS' LINE3-Seed(-5.5)3-Seed (-6)There's very little discrepancy here, with no dangerous Bills-esque team that can take the No. 6 spot in the NFC. The Packers let a chance to give the Lions a scare fall through their fingers Monday night, so Detroit will likely host one of Green Bay, Minnesota, Seattle, or Los Angeles as the 3-seed.Depending on how you feel about that group and the Lions' recent downturn, taking the points might get you some closing line value (CLV) at a relatively key number of +6. Considering the top non-NFC East wild card should be coming into the playoffs hot, it's hard to imagine that this line ends up higher than -6.AFC 7th Seed @ AFC 2nd SeedRUSSELL'S LINEODDSMAKERS' LINEAFC -9.5AFC -6.5Almost everything said in the discussion about the potential 6-3 matchup in the AFC applies here as well. However, there's the added caveat that this is Buffalo's most likely landing spot in the playoff bracket. The Bills are still a slight favorite to miss the playoffs, and there are some scenarios where Buffalo and Miami make it in slots other than the 7-seed. So I have to assume this is a Super Bowl contender against an also-ran.Since this matchup is likely Baltimore, Kansas City, or the AFC East winner hosting either a mediocre team or the No. 2 club in the AFC East, the line will either be over a touchdown or under a field goal, meaning -6.5 is not the correct number. If you think two AFC East teams make the playoffs, the bet is on the 7-seed at +6.5. If not, take the 2-seed and enjoy your CLV.NFC 7th Seed @ NFC 2nd SeedRUSSELL'S LINEODDSMAKERS' LINENFC -10.5NFC -9.5There's a small discrepancy here, and it hinges on whether the 49ers run the table and get the 1-seed over the Eagles. If they don't, the 49ers would be higher than -10, as they were when they hosted the Seahawks (a candidate for the 7-seed) in Week 14. I wouldn't want to have liability on San Francisco -9.5 if I were a sportsbook. If they do, and the Eagles host a team like Minnesota, -9.5 is probably the right line. However, I'd be on Philadelphia to win in a blowout. There's just nothing to do right now. We'll revisit this leading up to Wild Card Weekend to see how close we were to guessing where these point spreads land. And, of course, there'll be a full betting breakdown of each game once we know who the teams are.Matt Russell is the lead betting analyst for theScore. Were the Los Angeles Chargers aware that they were scheduled for a football game Thursday?Brandon Staley's team hit a new low in front of a national audience as the Las Vegas Raiders annihilated the Chargers in a jaw-dropping 63-21 beatdown. The 63 points scored by the Raiders stands as a franchise record, surpassing their previous best of 59 set against the Josh McDaniels-led Denver Broncos in 2010.For the Chargers, 63 points also marked a franchise-low in points allowed in a single game. Their previous record was a 57-31 loss to the St. Louis Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf" offense in 2000.The Raiders, who were shut out last Sunday, didn't field an offense that strikes fear like "The Greatest Show on Turf," but the Chargers had no answer for opposing quarterback Aidan O'Connell and Co.O'Connell immediately led Las Vegas to a 42-0 half-time lead after throwing four touchdown passes. Tre Tucker caught a pair of scores, while Michael Mayer and Jakobi Meyers hauled in one each. Running backs Zamir White and Brandon Bolden scored rushing touchdowns as well.Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce emerged from the locker room after halftime and mentioned to TNF sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung that he told his team to "press the gas pedal even harder" in the second half. They did just that.Meyers threw a short touchdown to Davante Adams on a trick play to cap off the opening drive of the third quarter. Then the defense joined in by capitalizing on mistakes by Chargers signal-caller Easton Stick, who was making his first career start in place of the injured Justin Herbert.Defensive lineman John Jenkins scooped up a strip sack and took it to the house in the third quarter. His touchdown was immediately followed by a one-handed pick-6 from Jack Jones on the Chargers' ensuing drive."We kicked some ass today," Pierce told reporters postgame, including Tina Nguyen of KTNV.Los Angeles didn't score its first points until Joshua Palmer caught a 79-yard touchdown while down 49-0 in the third quarter. Stick threw two more touchdowns in the final 10 minutes of the game to bring the score to 63-21.Thursday's loss resulted in the Chargers cleaning house, as Los Angeles announced Friday that it's parting ways with Staley and general manager Tom Telesco.Meanwhile, Pierce brought his record to 3-3 since taking over as the Raiders' interim coach. Las Vegas also snapped a three-game skid to improve to 6-8 with the prime-time win.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Certain content reproduced under license.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill will be questionable for Sunday's game against the New York Jets, head coach Mike McDaniel announced Friday, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.Hill hasn't practiced this week due to an ankle injury."When we talk, if he's confident he can go be himself and (we have the) support of trainers that are responsible to the risk, then he will play," McDaniel said of Hill's status on Friday.Hill was considered day-to-day this week after injuring his ankle during Monday's loss to the Tennessee Titans. The All-Pro pass-catcher wasn't ruled out of the game but later said the ailment limited his mobility."We're going to make sure that when he's on the field, he's not at risk of further injury to himself," McDaniel said Thursday, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper.Missing Week 15 would be a big blow to Hill's quest to become the first player ever to top 2,000 receiving yards in a season. The 29-year-old leads the NFL with 1,542 yards and 12 touchdown catches in 13 games. Hill's on pace to finish the campaign with 2,016 receiving yards. The seven-time Pro Bowler played all 17 games during his first season with Miami in 2022.Injuries are also an issue for the Dolphins' offensive line ahead of the Jets matchup. Miami recently ruled out starting center Connor Williams for the remainder of the season after he tore his ACL. Guard Robert Hunt won't face New York due to a hamstring injury, per Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Jake Browning was a new member of the Bengals' practice squad when the franchise surged to great heights. He watched Joe Burrow lead a trip to Super Bowl LVI in the 2021 season, which ended with a nail-biting Cincinnati loss. The team crashed to earth this year while Browning chilled on the sideline. The 27-year-old quarterback threw one incompletion in garbage time of Week 1 as Burrow played through a calf strain that compromised his productivity. The wrist injury that shelved Burrow in November seemed like it would wreck Cincy's season. Dylan Buell / Getty ImagesBrowning's first start after that setback produced a forgettable loss. His next two were spectacular. Scoring 34 points in back-to-back weeks helped the Bengals edge the Jaguars in overtime, rout the Colts, and enter the AFC playoff conversation. The Rams are their NFC analog. The winner of that dramatic Super Bowl - Los Angeles beat the Bengals 23-20 on Feb. 13, 2022 - plummeted in the standings last season and seemed washed. But recent wins over the Seahawks, Cardinals, and Browns, combined with a moral victory achieved by pushing the Ravens to extra time, elevated L.A.'s stock.Offensive awakenings saved the Rams' and Bengals' seasons. Franchise cornerstones teamed with breakout stars to propel each club into the wild-card chase.Spurred by Matthew Stafford's return to health and vintage form, the Rams averaged 34.7 points against Arizona, Cleveland, and Baltimore. They ranked third in that span in expected points added per dropback and were second in EPA/rush, per Ben Baldwin's database. Hot and balanced, L.A. became the fourth team this season to score 100 points, net 750 passing yards, and rush for 450 yards in a three-game stretch, according to Stathead.Stafford sprained his throwing thumb in Week 8. Evidently, he's fine now. When Puka Nacua was blanketed downfield, he placed the ball perfectly to set up Nacua's 70-yard touchdown against the Browns and majestic diving grab against the Ravens.Nacua is on pace to tie Ja'Marr Chase's rookie record for receiving yards (1,455 over 17 games). Between Nacua, Cooper Kupp, and Tutu Atwell, Rams wideouts have produced nine 100-yard performances, which ranks third in the NFC. Los Angeles was the first team since Week 12 of 2022 to tally three passing TDs against Baltimore.Like Nacua, L.A.'s Kyren Williams is a budding force. Among NFL running backs, the second-year sensation only trails Christian McCaffrey in rushing yards per game (89.0) and average scrimmage yards (110.0). Williams' escape up the gut for 56 yards against the Cardinals typified his impact on the Rams' 12th-ranked rushing attack, which was 27th in yardage last season. Harry How / Getty ImagesIn Cincinnati, Browning looks at ease in the pocket despite his inexperience. He took first-team reps in training camp while Burrow nursed his calf strain but saw no action in the regular season until this year, Browning's fifth in the NFL.His completion rate over three starts is 79.3%. His 112.8 passer rating on snaps where he doesn't face pressure ranks third in the NFL behind Brock Purdy and Tua Tagovailoa, per PFF. By total EPA, Browning's 32-for-37, 354-yard masterclass against the Jaguars was the league's 10th-best QB performance this season.Browning has fed Chase and Joe Mixon - those playmakers combined to put up four TDs and 420 scrimmage yards in the past two weeks - and shown mastery of basic concepts. Play-action passes led to Chase's juggling catch in overtime of the Jaguars game and rookie running back Chase Brown's 54-yard TD against the Colts. Good blocking on screen routes in each matchup sprung Mixon and Brown for big gains.Limited to five touches in six appearances before December, Brown's 20 touches against the Jaguars and Colts yielded 83 scrimmage yards per game. He became the third NFLer to run 22 mph this season when he left defenders in the dust and scored on Indianapolis, per Next Gen Stats. The No. 163 selection in the draft - Brown was taken 14 picks before Nacua - jolted Cincinnati at a pivotal time. These hot streaks need to be sustained because both teams have a lot of work ahead to reach the wild-card round. The Bengals' 26% chance to make the playoffs ranks 10th in the AFC, per The New York Times' simulator. At 31%, the Rams have the NFC's ninth-best chance to qualify.Cincinnati's remaining opponents all have winning records. Saturday's foe is the Vikings, who ranked first in defensive EPA/play between Weeks 4-14, according to Baldwin's data.Minnesota's offense provides a cautionary tale. Following an unsightly 3-0 win, the club benched a replacement quarterback, Joshua Dobbs, whose performance fell off a cliff after a few encouraging weeks.Favorably, that means Browning gets a shot to outduel Nick Mullens, the Vikings' fourth starting QB of the year. Showdowns follow with talented defensive teams whose offenses have struggled to score lately (Steelers, Chiefs) or commit oodles of turnovers (Browns). There's a path for Cincy to finish with 10 wins, which usually translates to a playoff berth. Andy Lyons / Getty Images Harry How / Getty ImagesSeveral factors could boost the Rams in the NFC race.

Brandon Staley addressed his job security after the Los Angeles Chargers were blown out 63-21 by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football."I don't know that," Staley said postgame when asked if he'll still be the team's head coach tomorrow, according to The MMQB's Albert Breer. Yet, when asked if he should keep his role after the poor result, he replied, "Yes.""I know what I've done here for three years. I know what I've put into this ... I know the type of coach I am," he added.L.A. surrendered 378 total yards and turned the ball over five times in what became a lopsided contest. The Chargers were down 42-0 by halftime, the largest first-half deficit in franchise history."I didn't do anything well enough to get us ready to play tonight," Staley said, per NFL Network's Bridget Condon. The Chargers have dropped five of their past six games and currently sit in last place in the AFC West with a 5-9 record. Despite the woeful performance, some of the Chargers' star players voiced their support for the embattled head coach."Of course, we believe in him. And he believes in us," pass-rusher Khalil Mack said, according to NFL Network's Clayton Holloway. Safety Derwin James also backed Staley when asked if he would be comfortable with him remaining the head coach going forward. "Oh ya, for sure," he said.Several starters weren't available for the Chargers in Week 15, including Keenan Allen and Justin Herbert. Quarterback Easton Stick made his first career start, finishing with 257 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also lost a fumble that was recovered for a touchdown by Raiders defensive tackle John Jenkins.Staley has led the Chargers to a 24-24 record and one postseason appearance in two-plus seasons at the helm.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was ruled inactive ahead of Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers due to a quad injury.Jacobs didn't practice this week. The All-Pro tailback, who leads the NFL with 233 rushing attempts this season, went down in the fourth quarter of last week's 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings with what the Raiders originally called a knee injury. He was listed as questionable but didn't return to the game.Jacobs has rushed for 805 yards (3.5 per carry) and six touchdowns in 13 appearances this season. No other Raider has more than 65 yards on the ground. The 25-year-old posted a league-leading 1,653 rushing yards in 2022.With Jacobs sidelined, Zamir White and Ameer Abdullah headline the Raiders' running back depth chart. White and Abdullah have 20 and six carries this season, respectively.Injuries are also a concern for the Chargers, as quarterback Justin Herbert (finger) and wide receiver Keenan Allen (heel) won't play. Herbert has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery. The Chargers and Raiders are both 5-8.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. Geno Smith is progressing after a groin injury forced the Seattle Seahawks' quarterback to miss last week's game against the San Francisco 49ers."I know it's a big concern to everybody, but he feels really good," head coach Pete Carroll said Thursday, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. "He threw the heck out of the ball in the morning session, so we'll see what happens today with the hope that he's ready to go. And if not, Drew's going to be there."The Seahawks plan to mix reps between Smith and Drew Lock in practice in order to ensure both quarterbacks are ready to play Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, Carroll added."(Smith) wants to play in the worst way," Carroll said.Smith, who was injured in practice last week, has completed 64.9% of his passes for 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions. His return could help a Seahawks team that has lost four in a row and five of their last six games.Lock completed 71% of his throws for two touchdowns and two picks in the 28-16 defeat to the 49ers.Seattle (6-7) is on the outside of the NFC's playoff picture.Copyright (C) 2023 Score Media Ventures Inc.
